This is the worst Thai food take out we have ever had! I spent 50.00 and it's in the trash. It was disgusting. The combo app was 95% all tofu. #75 they forgot The noodles...Really? The thaï fish cakes... Had no real fish but fish paste n tasted like rubber. None of this was authentic! So disappointing! And upset! It's rated one star only because I had to for yelp. This place is not worth rating or visiting if you know real authentic, edible, Thai food.

Very good spicy Thai food there! I ordered not spicy, but still felt a bit spicy, but in a good way! Service was good, friendly, the only thing is that need to wait around 20 min for the dish.

This place is fantastic! I have never been disappointed with any dish from here. Flavorful and they cater to your individual spice needs.

The restaurant is cute and has a cozy feel to it. We were seated promptly and after we ordered our food, it came out pretty quickly. The food was ok. We ordered the fried tofu for appetizers. I wish it was more crispy, but because the tofu pieces were big, they were more on the soft size. The chicken pad thai was decent and so was the tom yum.

Terrible service. So. Slow. Every time. We wait for water, wait forever for drinks, are usually there after the rush but can never get much of a reaction from the wait staff. We like the food for what it is- mediocre easy cheap Thai- but dread the experience.

The best Thai food I have had anywhere for a vegetarian. I know it's strange that it's in Vermont but they are always consistent and the food is full flavor. I've had Thai food in major cities across the United States and Canada but this restaurant is still my favorite Thai restaurant.

This is my favorite Thai restaurant in Vermont. I go at least once a week now that I'm working in Montpelier. The pineapple fried rice (served in a pineapple when you eat in the restaurant) is definitely their best dish. I also get the pad see ew, plenty of my eating companions have enjoyed the pad thai, and I really like their green curry. The lunch special is $8 for most things with a somewhat limited menu (I've never heard complaints of people not being able to get what they want though), and they have a $10 minimum for cards.

Amazing!!! Best curry I've ever had. Every bite was just as incredible as the one before. The service was a bit slow and my water was empty most the time but the incredible meal was enough to distract me from my empty glass. The curry basil duck was one of the most dicious meals I've had in my life. This is a must when you're as incredible the capitol city. Not to mention the price is extremely reasonable! Under 50 for 2 apps 2 enters and a beer.

I usually get their fresh garden rolls and a curry. The baseline spicy is spicier than at other Thai places in VT, which is great for me but probably a bit much for some folks. I wish they put more variety of veggies in their curries. The portions are perfect but a little expensive. Staff is friendly but service is often a little slow. It's great that there is Thai in central Vermont, but a more affordable option would be even better. Near as I can tell, Ocha in Waterbury and Royal Orchid have the same menu. They are owned by the same people, so if you like one you should probably like the other.

I really miss this place. Best Thai food I've ever had!

Holy crap this place is horrible. Service was pretty much as slow as humanely possible. The food was the some of the worst Thai I've ever had in my life. The Tom Yum tasted like a can of chicken broth with large chunks of onion and tomato and lemongrass. I don't even want to talk about the appetizers or entrees. Woof.

I surely don't understand the poor reviews that some folks give this place. I have traveled enough to be able to compare and the dishes my wife and I had were excellent. The crab rangoon was tasty though it could have been hotter. My duck curry made me rave and the left-overs gave me enough for lunch the next day even though I had a hard time stopping eating - it was that good. Ordering it spicy added flavor without overwhelming the dish. We will certainly return.

Just returned from eating at Royal Orchid Thai Restaurant and I agree with the glowing reviews - this place is great. The restaurant has a lot of charm and character, tucked away on a side street in downtown Montpelier. It makes parking a little difficult since it is only street parking, and even on a Wednesday night it required some driving around. However, the effort is well worth it - with most of the standard fare for Thai restaurants is to be found here. Unfortunately, I forgot to grab a take-out menu, and I can't remember the names of everything we ate. We did start with an appetizer of chicken-filled wontons served with a spicy peanut sauce that were positively addictive. My wife enjoyed an appetizer as her main course, which was plenty. The dish was a mound of crispy noodles served with stir-fried chicken with a sweet sauce. Excellent, though sweeter than she was expecting - next time she'll ask for more heat to balance it. I went with a spicy fried rice that came to the table loaded with stir-fried chicken, vegetables and chili peppers. I ordered it as "mild plus" and it was enjoyably spicy for me, but I think for others it would blow them away. With the appetizer, two meals (one an appetizer), a beer and a glass of wine, the total was under $40, which is great. We look forward to many returns!

I knew nothing of this until my friends insisted we go and they were very, very right. Tucked away in Monteplier, the food was very good, as was the service. It wasn't the best I've anywhere, but it certainly stacked up well on the whole.

I've never been to Thailand..... but, my wife and I do like thai food and we both loved our meals. She got pad thai with woon sen noodles and I got the green cury extra hot, and it actually came out extra hot. Friendly service, nice atmosphere, delicious food!!

Good food, nice ambiance. Nice terrace - impossible to sit there at dusk because of the mosquitoes. Overpriced.

Why, I often wonder, do denizens of Montpelier rave about 'that Thai place'? Why does every item on the menu taste like bland kids' paste? Why is the food ready before you walk in the door like a fast food joint? Why is the open and closed sign outside the door tattered and ragged looking? Why, again, do people love 'that Thai place.'? Like Applebee's, I've never walked out of the Royal Orchard and declared 'wow, that was an awesome meal!'

Not good. The food is definitely mediocre at best. I found our dishes to be bland and clunky...and a bit greasy. The flavors here were so weak that I could barely even detect anything reminiscent of Thai food. If the flavor wasn't weak, it was terribly unbalanced and the rice was overcooked! Very disappointing. I give them props for being one of the few ethnic options in oh-so-diverse Vermont (sarscasm...) but they don't really do the food proper justice. They could at least try a little more and represent, all proper-like. But, alas, that is probably WHY the food sucks so bad...because they can get away with it because, uh, yeah, you're gonna get Thai food where else??? We came here with my future mother-in-law who lives in Montpelier and has lived the majority of her life in rural New England. She's not exactly the Thai food expert but she claimed this place was amazing! If you've actually eaten Thai food in any major metropolitan area or in Thailand, you're gonna be disappointed. After eating here, the future hubby and I couldn't figure out if it was really that bad or if we were just being city-dwelling snobs. The future hubby confirmed with some local colleagues, that, yes, this place is not that great. Service was okay. Despite the food, the place was packed on a rainy weeknight. It is totally the lack of options and diversity that are keeping this place in business. If someone moves here who actually knows how to cook Thai food, they will make a killing and put this place to shame. Pros: One of few ethnic options, service is okay, vegetarian-friendly, coat rack/hooks by the door. Located on a quieter street. Within walking distance of Main Street. Cons: The food. Despite it all, I must admit that if I did live in Vermont and this was one of my few options to eat ethnic food and see other Asian people, I'd probably go here often just because. I'd probably curse the decision more than half the time but I'd probably still be a loyal customer. Take that for what its worth.

BEWARE - The food may be good, but this place is rampant with food poisoning. I keep on giving them another chance, only to find that the previous time wasn't a fluke. Repeated instances of food poisoning are indicative of a highly unhygienic kitchen.

I just happened to check my bank statement and noticed that Royal Orchid didn't add the tip to the charge on my card. If you go, please leave a cash tip! The service wasn't great. It took a long time to be seated, even though it didn't look that busy. They were out of our first choice appetizer. Our service was acceptable but our waitress barely spoke to us (and it wasn't a language barrier, although she was tripped up when my partner asked what was vegan). Nevertheless, we are good tippers and I am sorry we didn't get charged for the waitress's labor. I can't help but wonder if both our mediocre service and not being charged for the tip are related to how Royal Orchid is manages their employees. It's a shame because our food was five stars.

Things are better. They're still using inappropriate containers but the food quality has improved greatly. New waitstaff... They're kind of weird but it's okay.

Food continues to be amazing. Was extremely pleased that today, Royal Orchid took my order and prepared it for me to pick up -- even though I called half an hour before they were officially open! Parking still awful - I had previously gotten away with parking in the spaces reserved for the laundromat next door, but today almost lost my car to that attempt...back to street parking for me! Personally I wish the laundromat folks could maybe work with their neighboring business and allow those who are parking for a few minutes to take out food to use the spaces also?

Looking for an alternative after red basil in Stowe crashed and Just had dinner here tonight and it was great. We had the satay, fried wontons and veg spring rolls. Then chicken with broccoli and the green curry chicken. Everything was great. Service was attentive, spicing was perfect. Will definitely go back.

This is one of our favorite "go to" places for lunch in town. Though we are still mourning the departure of the previous chef (who decamped to Florida some time ago to open his own restaurant) the food remains a large cut above the other Asian places in the area. With most lunch dishes priced between $7-$8.50 Royal Orchid gives good value. Service is friendly, quick and competent. If you like squid, give it a try. It's fresh and properly cooked. Chicken and vegetarian are great, too.

This is one of my favorite places to eat in town(black door, royal orchid and 3 penny taproom and the thai cart). The service is very friendly and i grew to enjoy eating here. Normally I would choose from there pad thai or crab fried rice.

I have to wonder if the other yelpers who reviewed this restaurant have ever eaten thai food elsewhere. The food was decent enough but for the price, I left feeling a little ripped off. The Tom Kha soup was way too heavy for my personal taste, and my friend said the Pad Thai wasn't the best she'd ever had. I ordered the chicken Satay and the portion was really tiny. I was expecting a bit more for $6, especially considering I just ordered an appetizer and soup rather than an entree. The Thai iced tea and fried ice cream were both good, but it's pretty hard to screw those up. The waiter was nice but as we were paying, the woman behind the counter was really rude to my friend. We were trying to figure out how to pay (we went in a group of six and they didn't offer to split the bill for us) and she told us we owed them more for the tip. This is after we spent a lot of time figuring out how much everyone would pay, including tip. The bill averaged out to $22 a person and, while some of us did get a drink and/or dessert, that still seemed way high for what it was. I can understand that this is probably some of the best Thai in Vermont but the claims of "best Thai ever!" seem a bit outlandish.

If by Thai food you mean greasy chinese style food, go here. When I think of thai food I think of light, refreshing, contrasting flavors. Not greasy, oily heavy sauces, flavorless soups and "curry" that comes in a plastic tub full of liquidy soupy curry sauce. Me and my friends left with msg headaches and a lot of disappointment.

I was here for lunch with some coworkers. I eat a lot of Thai food, and this place was ok, not the best I have had and not the worst. Our food was very flavorful, but they seemed to skimp on the meat/seafood in the dishes, i.e. 1 mussel, 2 shrimp, scallop bits that I don't think would have added up to a whole scallop, and a few squid rings in my dish. The food came out very quickly (a little too quickly in my opinion) and it was a little oily. We asked for medium spicy, which was hotter than most medium spicy at other places I have been, so keep that in mind when ordering. They also do not seem to do refills (or ignore requests for them), but I guess soda is bad for you so maybe they were doing it out of concern for our health?

Would be much better if they did not substitute broccoli for green papaya. Otherwise quite good. This 'review' from a person who lived two years in Thailand.

Not sure what all the rave is about?? Their Pad See Ew is ok and the Thai Beef Salad was bland and tasteless for the price that they charge. No dressing and no flavors whatesoever! The waitress there didn't know too much about the dishes and was so slow even though it was a Monday afternoon and there were only us and another couple. So glad to be back in Boston where I can get some authentic Thai food.

I would give it 4-1/2 stars, but we were only there once. Driving through heavy snowfall up from Mass., we were on the way to Burlington and saw this place favorably reviewed on Yelp. Got there shortly before closing but the manager did not make us feel rushed. Ordered Pad Thai with chicken and shrimp, Pad See Yeuw with beef, an appetizer of potstickers, the mango/rice dessert and the fried banana with coconut ice cream, and Thai iced teas. Everything was excellent and fresh-tasting. The Pad See Yeuw was the best I've had anywhere -- good beef, great noodles and a well-balanced sauce. As background: in Los Angeles, we've been to Thai Talay, Jitlada, Toi, Natalee Thai, East Wind and many other Thai places. Decor is pleasant and tasteful. If I were within an hour of here, I would make the trip.

My bf is new to Montpelier. When I visited him last weekend from Pittsburgh he wanted to check the place out. We enjoyed the food. The dishes were appealing to the eyes and tasted great. I would give it a 5 but when I told the wairtress that we wanted something spicy, She was very vauge and suggested a few things. We ended up with one sweet-ish dish. Waitress didn't seem to want to spend any time with us regarding ordering. Nice atmosphere.

By no means am I a connoisseur of fine Thai food, but I was thoroughly impressed by the array of magnificent flavors I encountered during my visitl. I had the vegetarian spring rolls which were wonderfully complimented with just a hint of fresh mint rolled inside. The fried catfish I had for my meal, while a little scanty in the amount of actual fish, was again a harmonious fusion of sweet, spicy and savory. The weather was beautiful making it possible to sit outside and it certainly helped contribute to a fine experience. I will be happy to patronize again and again.

One of the best restaurants in this area. Good quality Thai food. They do have a branch in Waterbury. Montpelier one is the best of both. Customer friendly staff makes you feel better. Their Ginger tea is just too good. Pad thai and veg fried rice are my personal favorites.

I moved to Boston from Montreal a year ago and this is the best thai I've had since I left Montreal. My girlfriend and I stopped here on one of our many trips between the two cities. It's a quick detour off the 89 into scenic Montpelier. I like to gauge a thai restaurant by the Pad Thai, a classic dish. It was made quickly, nicely spiced, the shrimp were not overcooked and the bean sprouts were fresh. Service was friendly and ambiance is ok. I'm definitely going to go again and try other dishes! It was surprisingly good food from a small town, where I wouldn't expect too much normally.

The best Thai Restaurant on the face of this earth! Try the Pad Thai. They also have fried ice cream. Good luck finding a better Thai restaurant in the Northeast.

The BEST Thai food in Vermont! When I lived in Vermont and travel back to Vermont I always make an effort to stop in and grab a bite to eat. The service is great and the food is wonderful. I recommend the beef with broccoli, Thai ice tea and crab rice!
