Food 3 Service 4.5 Atmosphere 4 Good for family gathering after skiing. Basic bar food with some italian (american italian).

The only thing there that was good was their steak that comes out on a hot plate. The wings were decent but not amazing. The pasta was not good at all. It came out cold but they reheated it again for us. The burger was ok. I wouldn't come here again...maybe for just drinks. The bartender made a good long island ice tea.

We were late coming out for dinner with the kids 7,5,4 after a long day of skiing and pool at Jackson Gore. Everything was booked so we headed out and stopped here. The family dining side was packed so the host set us up around the bar. Even with some boisterous locals around the bar the food came quick, burger was medium rare as asked and we heard no complaints from the kids. Pleasantly surprised and service was friendly. Video games in the back which the kids enjoyed later on. Not our first choice but worked in this situation.

Lunch for 4, $80 (no drinks). Wings were small and dry, which was voted as the best, took way to long to come out. Got a Italian grinder special, more like an appetizer than a meal. Will not go back.

Very friendly staff. Unfortunately it is overpriced. Food is decent but nothing out of this world. For the prices they command, they need to step up their game.

I would give them no star if it were an option. I called an order in for take out, the hostess who answered the phone seemed unsure of the order process. I asked for two cheeseburgers and one kids burger. She asked me for a phone number and my credit card number, which I thought was strange and only gave her my phone number. The way she asked seemed as if it was to ensure payment, it occurred to me later that she might have expected me to pay over the phone. At this point I wasn't expecting much, I got to the restaurant and payed for my food and the bill came out to 32$ which was 3$ more than what their online menu suggested. Upon opening my food once I got home, I found on each burger, two burnt pieces of hamburg and some pitiful looking fries, the vegetables were less than appetizing as well. Our kid's burger was also burnt and my son would not even eat it, he only had the dry remains of what once might have been called fries. For what I payed and my overall experience, I would recommend any other establishment in Ludlow over The Cool Moose, including any of the gas stations in town. Buyers Beware! It's pretty bad when you cant make three decent burgers on a slow night.

Cool Moose Cafe. in Ludlow VT. This time of year all restaurants in the area are jam packed. We tried Monday to order take out and could not find a place that would take our order., I know this is Christmas/Holiday break. I am writing this because our son is on chemo and could not go out at the time. We actually drove to a couple of places to try to order food and again no luck. I went into the Cool Moose Cafe and explained we could not find any take out and wanted to know if they had a certain food. The man at the front desk said "no place will take your order", I said that is correct. He went into the kitchen and came back with what I was looking for. He told me to have a wonderful night. AMAZING. We have been to the CMC in the past but you can be sure we will be loyal customers for a very long time. The service has always been good and they try to keep patrons happy with food choices. During the winter season all of the restaurants are over whelmed with customers but continue to do the best they can. CMC went above and beyond. Thank you so very much. Jackie.

The food was great. My husband said it was one of the best Stromboli he had ever eaten. My meal was also good. The service was wonderful. The place could have been a bit cleaner.

Great burgers - we had the veggie, with bleu cheese & mushrooms and Philly-style. Also good salads & nice selection of local craft beers

Argh. I really want to love this place. Owners are friendly and, at times, this place does well. Like an very good Chili's with a local touch. The fried haddock sandwich and pulled pork sandwiches were pretty good. But other times, I'm just frustrated with this. Cheesesteak sandwich was dry; burger a bit lifeless. And the pierogi were probably just taken out of a freezer bag. Not bad, just uninspired. Its just inconsistent. They can deal with getting our food quickly (even when a party of 27 just sat down too) but somehow the fries were just lukewarm. That said, the kids meals are pretty good value and its a great place to handle big groups and families which is key in a ski town like this. So, three stars it is. Could be more on the night you go. You just don't know.

We were visiting from out of town. Wanted some light fare and a salad. Decided to sit in the bar. Place was not busy and filled with locals. My Caesar salad was soggy and the dressing was not the best. The owner did come over and take it off the bill which was nice. My biggest complaint was with the bartender/ waitress. She asked me if I would like a second beer which I said yes and we also discussed the fact we were there before 7 so we were entitled to a half priced appetizer. Although she was the bartender, she never brought the second Guinness and did not take 50% off the appetizer like she said she would. She also referred to me as "Hon." I consider that to be a derogatory term from one woman to another. Just passing through but would not recommend.

We've gone here several times over the past few years. Must say the service & the food have definitely gone down the tubes. Last night was probably our last visit! The food on the "black rock" was already over cooked when brought to the table. Isn't the whole idea of the "black rock" to cook your own food? Also, No dipping sauces & half the portion sizes of previous visits. The waiter thinks he is funny however he's border line rude & obnoxious. This is the 2nd time we brought friends who have never been up to Ludlow to Cool Moose & we were embarrassed with the experience. Never again.

RUDE Service, Poor Value, Food Decent: Went there on a Saturday night. It was decently busy, but not crazy. Even if it was, it's no excuse for how rude the host was to all the customers. It was quite shocking. The wait staff and bartender were inattentive, rude, and overwhelmed. Clearly a competent manager is needed for this place. This place needs a reboot. Just look at the menu options and it's poor lay out. Plus they heavily promote this odd dining option where the food is brought to you on a hot stone. Who want's to cook their own food. That's what I'm paying you for. And who wants their food to keep on cooking at their table. It'll be overcooked! I can't believe this place is still open. It belongs on that Gordon Ramsay, Kitchen Nightmare show. If you must go, get the maple hot wings.

This place was just OK... nothing great about the food but the service was.

2.5 stars really. This area is just not a place for foodies on moderate budgetsn Maybe the bakeries are the best. Came here for dinner after finding 4 yelp star pizza place closed. Seated quickly and ambience fine. We were In the bar area. To me the menu is really limited and in some cases expensive. Sides w sandwiches are carbs carbs and more carbs and coleslaw that is not made on premises. Three of our sandwiches were on deep fried pitas. If that had been mentioned on the menu I would have asked for mine unfried. I am sure I could have returned it but the omission of this detail on the menu was bothersome. And the baked potato is really half a potato with some twice baked atop it. Weird. The burger add on menu lists hot sauce as an add on for $1. That's ridic really. The fries and wings were good. it appeared none of the dressings were house made. This town seems to have a vacancy for a well priced healthy/creative restaurant. just review the other listings on yelp to confirm. Except for the closed pizza place with no sign and the higher end place.

Located at the bottom of Okemo Mountain in the same location as the old Archie's, the Cool Moose is a vast improvement to the old Archie's. This is just the type of casual dining establishment Ludlow needed. There is a very nice selection of burgers, steaks and seafood, and a passable salad bar - a similar menu and pricing to the old Archie's, but MUCH better food. There are a number of very good local beers on tap. Excellent fresh bread served with dinner. If you don't want to spend what you need to at Sam's Steakhouse, Panarello's or Bella Luna, this is an excellent choice. It is kid-friendly and really a perfect apres-ski dinner for the whole family. Despite what the entry here says, they normally do NOT take reservations.

We stopped in here for a late lunch on a Friday on the way into town. The server and bartender were very friendly. I ordered the hamburger and fries and the bf ordered spicy maple wings. The burger was a little overdone, but decent and the fries were a little crunchy. The wings were very good though with a mix of hot sauce and brown sugar/maple. The desserts were highly recommended, but we had to pass. It was a little pricier than we expected for lunch (we both had alcohol), but if we'd stayed longer, we would have gone back for more wings and dessert!

I highly recommend the "rock" dinners. Gary will give you a thorough explanation. We were a little full to try the key lime pie but it was tempting. We'll definitely be back.

Here's our situation: A large family reunion there to celebrate, we had pretty much the entire restaurant booked. We had ordered all our food in advance (some of us several months before) and were seated with name cards so the staff could match our names to our orders. So I do want to give leeway to the fact that the restaurant needed to pump out about 70 meals within a very short period of time and get them all served to us. Not an easy task. Here's what went wrong... First there was a lot of confusion about who ordered what. One of the servers made clear that she was unhappy about the whole situation (exact words from her mouth "this is going to suck" when I told her I didn't really remember what I hard ordered.. I was the first person she tried to sort it all out with) repeatedly throughout the night. They did do a pretty good job of getting the food out as fast as they could, given that there were that many orders to process at the same time. The problem was, they should have not accepted a group of our size, because it wasn't really do-able to service that large number of people effectively. The main draw that they have for their restaurant is a "hot rock" meal where they heat up a stone very hot and serve you some sort of meat to cook on your own. It's very flashy and pretty cool, and makes a lot of smoke. With just one or two of these meals coming out at once, no big deal. Remember, we had about 70 people, and my guess is that about 20 people ordered the hot rocks. Sure enough, the room filled with smoke and the fire alarm went off. For a long time. They weren't actually even able to turn it off, they needed to call the alarm company and have someone come out to manually turn it off. The people who had just been served their food had to take it outside and eat it on the sidewalk. This couldn't have happened to a nicer group of people (the restaurant was very lucky). We waited outside for well over 1/2 hour (maybe longer)with the alarm going off the entire time to settle our bill. We could have easily walked away from that situation, but the restaurant got their full pay for everything... including the 20% gratuity that was automatically added on to the bill since we were a large party. The restaurant did not offer to re-fund anyone's dinner, give them a discount price, or anything, even though several of our family members actually took their food (hot rocks and all) outside, sat on the sidewalk to finish their meal. In the absence of a discount someone asked if there were any deserts they could send back to our meeting place with, and they gave some people a box of frozen lava cakes as well as a key-lime pie. They were frozen though, so we needed to cook them when we got back to the inn that we were staying at. This restaurant should have thought a little more about whether or not they could serve that many people at once, and what 20 smouldering meals in a room might do to the fire alarm system. I'll give it 2 stars because the food was pretty good, people enjoyed the experience (before the fire alarm situation). They should not accept any more large groups like that, the facilities are just not set up to support it.

Stopped for lunch. Got some buffalo wings and a ceasar salad. Claim they are the best wings in Okemo area....maybe. Not bad but could be cooked a bit more for a crispy wing. Salad was very good

Came here a year ago just after it switched from Archie's to Cool Moose Cafe. At that time the service was a problem. We decided to give them another try since the earlier visit was shortly after opening and it was now a year later. To owner/manager: Is it your intention to provide such chaotic service that we wont return? Our waiter was fine: polite, friendly and apparently knowledgable. BUT he not only greeted us at the entrance and seated us, but he then became our server (one person for the entire restaurant) and bussed tables etc. we saw at least one couple leave after waiting too long to be served. We waited a bit and were able to give our selections and it was downhill from there. Never got the salad I had ordered; I had to find someone to give my wife a nut cracker for her lobster; requested water never made it to the table. Meanwhile our server ran from table to table. The bartender also delivered meals to the tables. Someone from the kitchen also appeared from time to time to bring out a plate of food. The frustrating highlight is that the food was good. It was spoiled by the service and I do not blame our server. This is a managerial problem.....just as we encountered a year ago. It's management's responsibility to be sure there is adequate service coverage. Don't use the excuse, "there were last minute no-shows from our usual servers." I won't be back!

The country fried steak was good, and they gave a hefty portion of the pasta. It was just a bit greasy. All came with the salad bar.

Doesn't get more convenient as a place to stop for dinner after a day of skiing at Okemo. Very comfortable. Nice lively atmosphere. Good service. Nice selection of draft beers. Excellent burgers. The salad bar is nice addition to the meal. We are repeat customers.

This may have been bad timing. We were excited to go based on reviews and the menu. It happened to be the last day before they closed for 5 weeks. Waitress was not nice at all, like we were troubling her. Once we were shown to our tables the first and only thing out of her mouth was the list of items they did not have. Which was extensive. Now I can understand since they were closing for awhile but deliver could and should have been better. Waited 5 minutes never saw her again so we walked out. I would not give this place another try.
