This great place is almost hidden if you don't notice their sign by the road. I came at 6pm because I wanted a quiet place to enjoy the food and everyone told me that if I come in at 8pm, the atmosphere is more livelier. The staff and the chefs were all very nice to me and spent time asking where I was from and created some chit chat. Of course I sat at the bar which made it easier for them to talk to me. I was sitting only a few feet away from the kitchen. Food was delicious - I had a glass of Riesling, Mussel appetizers, NY Strip steak, a glass of Gladiator, and topped off with a delicious chocolate lava cake a la mode. Worth the drive! I plan to come back here!

Eight of us had different first, second, third courses and drinks. The food was as fine as any of us had eaten crab soup, pork cop crepes with chicken, salads, salmon, cod gelato chocolate cake. Martina's etc all excellent in as nice atmosphere. Ended up $50/ person. Waitstaff not perfect but this is an elegant place for dinner in Vt

Food was delicious! Portions were generous. Cute, intimate atmosphere. Food came out super fast too. The FOH was a little slow and you could tell things weren't flowing. They might be new and it will probably come in time. The hostess worked hard to fill in the gaps.

Alright, so I've lived all over the world, California, London, etc but I grew up in Vermont and have yet to find a restaurant that can compare to Mio Bistro. The owners/chefs Beverly and Leo are extraordinary people as well as chefs. They are always willing to do anything possible to accommodate guests, as well as provide an amazing dining experience. So my best friend and I went in for dinner this evening and received exceptional service as soon as we entered. Ali, our waitress, was extremely attentive and friendly and helped us to decide between the exquisite specials, as well as the normal menu. We decided on the wild shrimp and avocado salad, french onion soup, the free bird chicken done thai style, the wild sea bass with fra diavolo and crab and asparagus risotto. (We shared the two entrees). The wild shrimp and avocado salad is a favorite. With crisp local mixed greens, succulent juicy shrimp, fresh, tangy salsa and a warm tomato-based sauce the shrimp is sautéed in, it makes for the perfect appetizer. I can't speak for the french onion soup, considering I didn't eat it but that bowl was empty. Let me tell you, I'm a foodie, and this sea bass was the best thing I've ever eaten out at a restaurant hands down. The fra diavolo added the perfect amount of heat and dimension to the perfectly moist sea bass. It also added the perfect balance to the creamy texture of the decadent crab and asparagus risotto, which was perfectly cooked I might add, something difficult to find with risotto at a restaurant. I can't even describe how delicious it was. I was ready to lick the plate. (it's only a special so it won't always be there but pray that when you go it is). As for the thai chicken, it was moist and juicy with a little spice from thai peanut sauce and pepper that was tastefully cut by the sweet coconut curry sauce atop the chicken as well as a wild rice medley and sautéed summer vegetables. It's a dish I've had before and consistently return to because it is unique and always done well. I was so full, after those mastered entrees but I'm a firm believer in dessert so I couldn't say no when presented with a dessert menu. We went for the chocolate lava cake. No regrets. Perfectly moist and warm. The perfect ending to a perfect meal for any chocolate/dessert lover. If you don't stop into this place when you're in the Southern Vermont area. You're an idiot. They are the only certified "green" restaurant in the area, everything is made fresh to order with never frozen ingredients and all of the ingredients, including meat, are humanely raised and mostly bought local. Simply a must.

This town of Dorset is absolutely a picture postcard and the fact that there is such substance behind it makes it such a home run. MIO Bistro was a great experience in every way - service, ambiance and food quality were all excellent. Appears to be a husband and wife couple running the very small visible kitchen and cooking each plate by table to order. Between the patio and inside they were only half full but they were turning people away because the kitchen can only properly satisfy a certain number of customers adequately, of should I say, to perfection. So, the take-away on that is that reservations are highly suggested from my perspective and I applaud the owners for not overdoing it. The food was really great - a combination of gourmet with a real touch of home cooking, in a good way. I had the salad with the shrimp and avocado and the special fish with an amazing lobster/corn/chanterelle mushroom risotto that could have been an entree by itself. Great wine selection. Desserts looked great - next time! Bravo!

We had been disappointed with other restaurants in the Manchester, VT area and thought that the area deserved better options. We gave Mio Bistro a try on our last visit and overall we were happy with the experience. Better than Ye Olde Tavern and Bistro Henry, which were both disappointments. I'd probably give it a 3-3.5, but relative to what's nearby, it deserves a 4. I started with a French Onion Soup, which was as good as it gets. Truly delicious, and just the right amount of cheese. For entrees, we had chicken, which was prepared thai-style with rice and a creamy sauce. The chicken was excellent, cooked to perfection and clearly of very good quality. However, there was way too much creamy sauce, which just drowned the entire dish. We also had the lamb shank, with mashed potatoes and greens. There again, the lamb was excellent, but the mashed potatoes were the worst that I've had in a very long time. They were just watery and tasteless. Dessert followed a similar pattern. We had cheesecake with red berry coulis. The cheesecake was truly excellent and distinctive, but they had used a disgusting chemical-tasting red sauce that was clearly coming out of a cheap bottle. Way to ruin a great dessert! The overall impression is that the chef has mastered the art of cooking difficult items (meat in particular) but is neglecting the sides. Service was nice and attentive, nothing to complain about. We'd probably go again, but be very careful about selecting our dishes.

Fresh, mostly organic or local produce (or even grown on the premises...we saw their vegetable garden) in a nutshell: amazing tasting food!! Beet salad is out of this world. Service is impeccable and very friendly!

Perfection! We eat out quite a bit and this is the best we've had in recent memory. Every dish was fresh and flavorful. My husband's short ribs with mushroom risotto disappeared before I could ask for a bite. We were dining in Vermont but the seafood was so fresh we could have been sitting on a dock in Maine. I insisted that I didn't want dessert and then ate most of the pumpkin cheesecake my husband ordered. We will most definitely be back whenever we come to Dorset. Thank you Chef Leo and all the wonderful folks at Mio Bistro!

Have had great meals on three prior visits. This time 4 of our group had pastas, Tuscan and bolognese. Both were a bit too thin and/or were watery. Others who had steak and salmon were happy. So next time would avoid pastas.

Since Leo and Beverly opened in Pawlet, Vt, we have been frequent and loyal patrons. The food and service equal or exceed most urban restaurants, and are better than anything in the local area. Several of Leo's specialties, the Thai Red Snapper, the lamb shank, the spare ribs, and the lobster corn soup rate as the best food we have ever had. Leo and Beverly strive to bring the most wholesome local produce to the table, and it shows. The staff is also excellent, and the dining experience at Mio at their new location in Dorset, Vt is certainly worth the trip.
