Hoping to go back again soon! Ordered some make your own sandwiches which were really good. I love the bread, amount of toppings you can get, and that there's seitan and tofu available for filling! Also got a baked good, which was vegan and INSANELY good. Reminded me of a healthier carrot cake. I'll be back to try more for sure!

I usually order their Omega Salad to go, which is awesome! It's a great mix of flavors, with actual cooked salmon, not canned salmon like some other establishments offer. This morning, I ordered a soy latte, and a classic breakfast sandwich with a side of roasted potatoes. They gave me a numbered sign for my order, but didn't mention that I should wait for my latte, because that won't be delivered. They delivered my breakfast plate, and the server asked if I wanted ketchup and that he would also bring me some utensils. He didn't come back. Not a huge deal, but a while later, I watched the same person bring condiments and utensils to the table behind me. The food is good, so just need to set some expectations.

The food was good, though veggie-heavy (I think that's intentional). They carry Maine Root sodas, which are way better than Coke and Pepsi, so big plus there! The staff was friendly, though the gas station bathroom key was a bit off-putting. The gluten-free bread and cupcakes were good, so bravo for that! Of course, I'd love to see more GF options, but what they have was good enough by comparison to the with-gluten options that I'm happy.

I keep giving this place a chance. It's great if you are not very hungry and want to drop $$$$. The salads are tiny and always dowsed in dressing. Be very specific and watch them make your salad or you will end up with 5 bites of dressing for $9. Not worth it. There are plenty of other great cafe's in Burlington I would recommend before this place.

This is a quick, casual cafe with a great range of options to suit a variety of specialized diets. The service was quick and friendly, and the food was very tasty at a reasonable price. There looked to be a lot of students hanging out and studying, and it had a chill, ecofriendly vibe (appropriate to Burlington overall). It's the kind of spot where you order at the counter, and they have a range of soups, salads, and sandwiches in addition to drinks and desserts. Very tasty and well worth a visit!

I can't wait to return to this cozy coffee shop in Burlington. The combination of wooden beams and floors, brick walls, garage door and bar seating overlooking the street and ridiculous amount of space in the back, makes New Moon an ideal coffee shop in my book. The rotating drinks of the day/week don't hurt either with Vermont flair like "syrup this" and "syrup that" - I'm always down for syrup. The folks working behind the counter are willing to play along with your questions and curiosities- always a bonus for those of us who are new to the world of coffee bebidas. A few other items worth noting: -veggie and vegan friendly eats (this appears to be one of the popular places to go for lunch in downtown Burlington) -gorgeous decor (chandelier) and plush seating - New Moon walks the fine line of "we tried" and "we tried too hard" -tall and industrial-like ceilings -honey at the sugar and fixin's bar (I'm always on the hunt for my next spoonful of miel) For my next visit: those tiny and adorable mini cupcakes

Lovely little coffee shop and one of my favorite places to get work done. Although they're not open late (I mean what IS open late here in Burlington), it's open for a great chunk of time if you need to add a little productivity into your day. Food is delicious, drinks are decent, and there's plenty of study place in either their backroom or part of the front lobby area that's so cute to just people watch. If I have a group of 3 or more and need to get some work done, I always come here to New Moon. It's one of Burlington's gems in my opinion. You can also use your FOB device for 10% discount if you're part of the CarShare Vermont Program! Great feature for graduate students like myself!

Loved this place. The espresso was awesome! Desserts were awesome. Need a return visit this week.

We used New Moon for wedding cupcakes. They were beautiful and delicious! New Moon was a pleasure to work with! Great vendor all around.
(5)Ivan M.
Simply one of the best sandwich/salad places I've been. Plenty of veg and vegan options, but I did find singer purge dishes we had a little under seasoned. Two sandwiches, two salads, and two drinks came to just under $40. They also have free WiFi.
(5)Nicole T.
Mixed feelings. I was little taken aback after paying $30+ for two sandwiches, a smoothie and a coffee. When the sandwiches were brought out I thought they were downright tiny for that price point. I had the salmon panini and it was just okay. I was expecting a more lox like texture but it was flaky like tuna fish which wasn't really up my alley. Not bad, just not was I expected. The reuben sandwich looked good, the coffee looked great and my ginger apple smoothie was fine. For spending this much on lunch, I was hopeful for a bit more but I would give this place another try just so I could try more of their delicious looking coffee drinks next to that roaring fireplace. I really loved the atmosphere and it served my purpose of a business lunch meeting perfectly. The space is huge and is great for large groups or a lunch and learn. Also - weird they aren't open Saturday's... why not close up shop on a Monday or Tuesday?
(3)Colleen G.
I was very hopeful about this new, cool looking place in downtown Burlington but I was severely disappointed. On my first attempt to visit I realized they were not open on Saturdays. What kind of coffee place/restaurant isn't open on Saturdays? I finally visited this morning for a coffee and breakfast sandwich. The inside is very cozy with a giant fireplace and gorgeous chandelier. Sadly, the mocha was mediocre and my breakfast sandwich was soggy. It also had an unsettling crunch, which I can only equate to eggshells. I'm so disappointed because I really wanted to love this place!

New Moon has a broad, healthy food selection and is one of few Burlington businesses not to serve alcohol...which, on this particular day, was a plus. Decor is plush and approaches Bohemian in front, a little too Spartan in the back. The windowless rear of New Moon offers harsh, thoughtless lighting, hand-me-down furniture (that leather sofa is sweet, though), and burgundy-colored walls with local art for sale (a practice that I find peculiar but not necessarily negative). I had a medium Omega salad, which, for $11, is an amazing deal. I can easily (usually) devour any salad, but there was probably $11 worth of salmon in it. Holy crap...I had trouble finishing it. I would suggest that you order dressing on the side, however. It was drenched in dressing and tasted so inoffensively yet noticeably fishy that I wonder if they added fish oil to the dressing for Omega's sake. I'm pretty sure that eating that salad added about 12 hours to my life. I still feel pretty good about it. My friend had the Pulled BBQ Sandwich on special. Not sure what was "pulled", as it was vegan and contained portabello mushrooms. He really liked it. The kids had grilled cheese (enjoyed) and a fruit dish (also enjoyed). Smoothies were regarded as generally bland. The thing that gets me about this place is the order flow. 1) Patrons order food (but do not pay) at one station and order drinks/sweets and pay at a different station. As a result, you must annoyingly restate your entire order when you pay because the cashier does not know what you ordered. I actually received my food before paying for it. 2) The second station is closer to the entrance and further from most seating, so this front register is a bit of a clustered situation. They do employ table numbers for people eating in (think Panera, Skinny Pancake, DMV), but they don't seem to use them because the food comes out so quickly (this is a good thing). However, I do think that patrons should be urged to sit and not wait at this register for their food. 3) The displayed menu is poorly placed. You cannot read it from the food-ordering station, it's clearly tailored to the paying station, which makes little sense. There are laminated menus to use for ordering, but it's just awkward since people cannot easily read the menu if there is a line. I will choose New Moon over a Panera any day. It's a nice, low-key space that I hope remains a staple of off-Church St. Burlington for quite some time.

Sandwiches, salads, pastries galore. This open concept cafe, featuring dark wood and fun chandeliers, has many options to choose from. Personal favorite is the tomato basil mozz. The balsamic dressing they use is addictive and the perfect complement to the simple ingredients. The sandwich when made correctly is out of this world! That being said, I have had some occasional issues with the sandwich makers being light handed with the fixings for the sandwich and sometimes the greens are a bit past prime. My suggestion here would be to speak up to let the maker know your preference and scope out the quality of fixings laid out before ordering. My only other complaint here is the flow of ordering can be a bit chaotic and confusing. Between not having a clear order here station and that the counter is right in the walkway that joins the back of the cafe with the front, prime ordering time can be a bit of a hurdle. Grab a mini cupcake, cookie or other pastry and/or a bag of chips and you are good to go!

I stopped by this cute little shop for lunch with some friends. I had no idea how large the place was, so many great study spaces in the back or a lovely place to grab some coffee in an intimate setting. As for the food, I settled on the chicken Cesar sandwich. Similar to a Chipotle, watch as your item is made. Nicely toasted baguette, the chicken was warm, though a bit bland in flavor. The sundried tomatoes we the best touch, providing a zest and lighter feel that you want in a lunch. There was some turkey bacon s well, appropriately crisp

I've been going to New Moon for a couple of years now because I like having a place that will make my salad to order. Inconsistency is the biggest problem with the food. Initially the problem was that the greens were not washed and my salad was crunchy with dirt. After complaining about this several times they seem to have mastered the art of properly rinsing greens. The problem I find most often now is the ingredients are not always fresh. Pay particular attention to the shredded carrots (usually dried out) and mushrooms (often slimy) and avocado (browned). I am amazed that a restaurant that markets itself as a 'vegetarian/vegan' restaurant handles vegetables so poorly. Last week having been Valentine's Day, a coworker of mine purchased some baked treats to share during a meeting. I have had varying degrees of success when buying baked goods from New Moon and freshness is always the issue. I was hoping that Valentine's cookies bought on Valentine's Day would not be a gamble, but these were stale. I imagine these cookies were not cheap either. Such a waste. I have read many reviews that have complained about the blonde woman at the cash register. I too have been on the receiving end of her rudeness. In fact, she is the reason I no longer go to New Moon. I could avoid the less than fresh ingredients for my salad and forego the baked treats, but to be treated rudely while patronizing a restaurant when there are plenty of better options downtown is not something I am fool enough to do. Hopefully the manager will read this and take note.

Great ambience, but I personally was not a fan of the food. I'll start off with the good and say that New Moon is a great place to study and get work done! There's free Wifi, lots of tables, and a nice fireplace. It's usually fairly quiet, since many people do work there. The staff is very friendly and pleasant, and I've had nothing but good experiences with them. Unfortunately, I didn't care for the food, although did try it several times. On my most recent visit, my breakfast sandwich was quite oily, particularly the side of potatoes. The coffee is fine, but again, not particularly good quality. The price was a bit steep given the quality of the food I received. I'd recommend this as a place to study, and I may try something other than a breakfast sandwich next time I am here.

New Moon is my go-to in Burlington for several things. If you're familiar with the Church Street area, you know there are a bunch of options for coffee, soup, sandwiches & salads...even mini-cupcakes. It can be difficult t figure out where to get the best deals. Let me tell you, New Moon beats them all! Their coffee is legit, it will pick up your energy any time you have the need. For the winter months, it's comforting to grab a nice hot cup and relax by the fireplace. I especially like their cold-press iced coffee in the summer, and take it to-go while running errands downtown. Their soups are made right there and the sandwiches are yummy. I prefer the salad bar, where you can have them whip up a custom mix of top-notch ingredients while you watch. My husband & I sometimes get a large and it is big enough to share. The atmosphere is peaceful and the wi-fi is great. It is my favorite place in Burlington for a casual meeting. Oh yeah, about the mini-cupcakes...there may be other spots that claim they have good ones. Once you've tried the New Moon creations, you'll shun the others...they are really that good!!!
(5)Aleczander S.
The food is great and the cupcakes are as well. They have a great VT maple latte too. The service is super slow so prepare to wait in line at least 20 minutes to place your order.
(4)William F.
Great all around place. New Moon doesn't really do anything to perfection, but they do A LOT of things and all of them are good. Sandwiches, salads, breakfast, pastries, coffee. It also seats like 300 people so you can always grab a spot. Personal favorites are the cobb salad, scones, and plain coffee. There are better places to get a cappuccino nearby, but New Moon's is pretty good.
(4)Amanda M.
So much goodness in my face! Thank you yelp for a good recommendation! When I travel for work, I always try to find healthy spots that serve both food and coffee- this place is the Mecca. Awesome salads with interesting ingredients and delicious coffee. Awesome vegan options as well. I will definitely be back! Check out my gorgeous salad in my pictures if you don't believe me :-)
(5)Billy J.
Excellent grilled cheese and corn chowder soup. Quick service and friendly staff. Smaller breakfast/brunch style menu with salads and coffee as well. Would recommend!
(4)Alex W.
I really liked New Moon and they have a lot of alternative options for people with dietary restrictions. It's definitely a college hipster cafe but it's cute and the staff is really friendly. The food and drinks are very much overpriced for the portions but it all tasted great.
(4)Kate F.
Fresh, local, and hip. Fantastic drinks, sandwiches, salads, and pastries. The atmosphere is yoga meets academic. The caprese sandwich is wonderful. The cupcakes are divine. And their raw juiced drinks are incredible. They also have a nice selection of teas and coffee. Their restrooms are clean. The tables are perfect for studying. I highly recommend New Moon. They also host events and cater. The service today was quick and pleasant. My only quam is that they aren't open more often or late at night for prime time studying.

I used to love going to New Moon to study while in college. Great food, even better smoothies! What I really went for was the ambiance. With the gorgeous chandelier and fireplace in the front and great room in the back, who can pass up reading a good book with a cup of tea on a fall afternoon. LOVE IT
(5)Jasper W.
This is definitely a place you want to go in and relaxed. They offer lots of healthy food and drinks. Sometimes, you can just get a cup of coffee and sit there and work the whole afternoon. The have a bid room with so many nice tables which is very good for working.
(4)reuben j.
I come here when friends suggest it. Food..ok.. One of those places where everyone around says "like" and "awesome" every three seconds.. Bad for my digestion... Oh well..
(3)Nick I.
Not worth the price! I don't care if I pay a lot for good food, but this is pricey for just OK food. Small portions. I can see why people would want to study/work there, its decorated like a trendy deli/bakery, but is really just a local "Panera" in hiding.
(2)Danny G.
Coffee is great, free wi-fi also excellent in terms of speed and access. Really slow on the uptake though in terms of getting food to the table. Waited about 40 minutes for a simple breakfast burrito, with the excuse there were several large food orders ahead of mine. Any good restaurant should be able to accommodate large and small orders, so that the individual waiting for a single item doesn't become roadkill to the larger order. Ended up cancelling my order because I'm meeting someone for lunch--had just wanted a simple light snack after driving two hours to BTV. Will definitely give them a go, and they were great about the refund -- ended up refunding me for my coffee too, which they didn't need to do.

Fortunately New Moon is not a vampire-fantasy themed cafe, but rather a place with an inviting ambiance that offers warmth and comfort from the cold. The high ceiling, elegant chandelier, and couches surrounding a roaring fireplace is reminiscent of a ski lodge. The spacious cafe extends into a separate back room with additional tables and seating, which is useful for college students. In fact, a quick survey around the room reveals a very prototypical customer demographic. The college squatter has a MacBook Pro, an open-faced textbook, a non-fiction bestseller, with a pair of hipster glasses sitting next to their cup of coffee. I guess a dimly lit cafe with free wi-fi and a supply of java is pretty conducive atmosphere for studying. As for the food here, New Moon has a nice selection of salads and sandwiches. I tried half of a grilled chicken & brie and half of the Reuben. The chicken was juicy and I liked the apricot mustard to go with the brie on pressed sourdough. I was a fan of the Reuben here - the pastrami was nice and not too salty and the sauerkraut was great on grilled rye. The sandwiches are affordable and comparable to Panera. The espresso is fairly priced and the cappuccino is decent, but not as good as the coffee from Muddy Waters.
(4)Cristina M.
New Moon is a good place to cozy up and get to work, and many students in the area do just that. For their free wifi and spacious seating, it is pretty good. The last time I went there, I waited at least half an hour for a sandwich midday when the lines were down. And employee even painstakingly made a (his?) sandwich directly in front of me without acknowledging me at all. When mine was finally made, they gave it to the wrong person. I'm usually not this picky about places, as I understand how tiring it can be to work in the food service industry, but the inadequate service here left a bad taste in my mouth. Not to mention the grilled vegetable sandwich really wasn't anything special.
(3)Jackie T.
My favorite thing about New Moon is their coffee, I think it's the best coffee in Burlington to be honest. It's strong, dark, rich, full bodied, and fresh. I have had a hard time finding a really stand up cup of coffee, there are some great places but nothing that makes me go "whoa" when I take a sip. I also am a huge fan of their breakfasts, always made fresh so you aren't eating a breakfast sandwich that was made with microwave bacon 3 hours ago. The only thing that I don't really love is that the service for the food is a bit slower, however I take that to mean that they are putting effort and attention into what they are preparing to best serve their customers. If you're visiting the area, stop in for a cup of coffee (or tea! they brew Harney and Sons tea, which is one of the best bagged versions of tea you'll find). If you work in the area and need a hearty breakfast made fresh, get in a little early and stop for a breakfast sandwich or burrito. Pretty good sized gluten free menu too, and a kids menu if you're visiting with your littles!

Whoa. That was my first thought after biting into my breakfast sandwich. The thoughts before this were something like, "Does it really take 15 minutes to make a breakfast sandwich? What are they doing back there? Making love to this thing?" Well I have no idea what's going on back there (and I don't really want to know), but whatever it is, it works. I came in here with some friends on our last day visiting Burlington and needed some breakfast and a coffee. We ordered the New Moon Rising breakfast sandwich, which comes with two eggs, cheddar, turkey bacon (mmmmm), and baby spinach on a sourdough roll. No biggie, right? Well it's like 6 bucks, which seemed steep, but hey, whatever. So I have my coffee (which, by the way, is quite good and very affordable) and relax on their sofas. It's a little dark for a morning place, but I dig the vibe. I bet it's especially awesome in the winter. Definitely a cozy vibe. After 10 minutes I'm starving and thinking there's no way this meal can be worth the wait. Boy was I wrong. First of all, the sandwiches come with home fries, and these things are the perfect balance of toasty and salty. Just perfectly well cooked and a surprising amount of them. I was shocked. I didn't even know you could make home fries this good. The sandwich itself was just as impressive. The perfectly blended group of ingredients really popped. No one flavor is particularly dominant, which gives the sandwich a great blanace. It's a tad on the greasy side and can definitely fill you up, but I enjoyed every bite. My girlfriend also got a smoothie with grape juice, peaches and bananas. Unfortunately the grape juice absolutely dominated the smoothie, so perhaps they could warn us that choosing a base like that can be really overpowering. Hard to fault them, though. I must say that the food took a surprising amount of time, and a woman who ordered after me got quite upset at the wait, but overall I found it quite worth it. My only regret is that I only ordered 1 sandwich and will have to come back again for another.
(4)Joe S.
Coffee and drinks here are overpriced and OK. The quality of them is really inconsistent. The sandwiches and salads sound good on paper, but are often poorly made. The ingredients are rarely fresh. The salads are extremely overdressed. Worst of all, the rest of the staff are very friendly - the people doing the actual work, but the woman who seemingly manages it or perhaps owns it (older, blonde, short hair in sort of a bob cut) is just incredibly unfriendly and all she does is work the register. I've watched her just stand there and do nothing when her staff obviously could use an extra hand with basic things. It's very saddening for me to see a manager act like that because I feel bad for the employees and as much as I'd like to support them by buying things here, I've decided to no longer do it. Everyone else greets you with a smile, but this lady just has a chip on her shoulder and can't even muster up eye contact during a cash register transaction or even say "Thank You." Unfortunately, this place will probably always be busy because they have wifi and are always catering to the next round of fresh college students who go here until they eventually learn there are a number of other cafes and delis that are appreciate of their business.
(2)Sarah F.
I'm more in love with other coffee sources these days, but new moon still reigns when it comes to their perfect little cupcakes. Those are amazing, and they blow their competitors out of the water if you ask me. Moist, delicious, and really interesting and creative flavors.
(4)David C.
Building your own sandwich and salad is annoying. The ingredients were nothing special. I can see the students love the WIFI.
(3)Katie P.
My boyfriend and I have taken care to avoid New Moon after reliably horrible experiences. I went back today, almost a year after having a sadly identically disappointing experience. The guy who took my order was sweet and initially attentive, but the setup of having whoever's available just stop running food and start ringing out makes for a guaranteed burned panini. I have never not had to specifically request my sandwich to be removed, and am surprised they haven't corrected this in three years. The manager is selectively nice but usually snobby; she gave me a brief glaring look before taking care to avoid all eye contact through ringing me out. I only heard from her ten minutes later, while I was watching her staff slowly lose track of my sandwich/evident impatience, to ask me to put the sugar on the coffee counter for her. Will be sure not to make the mistake of going here again.
(1)Andrea L.
the gluten free bread was very good and tasty, but it was a little crumbly in my vegan delight sandwich. maybe it was just all the weight of the fillings that made it that way, though. even though i'm not a vegan i was a big fan of the vegetable combinations they used (avacado, hummus, eggplant, tofu, to name a few).
(4)Jean B.
I loved coming here for coffee and working, but the food and service can be appalling. Despite "gluten free" menu items, this place is a hotbed of contamination if you're celiac (I am) or gluten sensitive. I've tried to eat here a few times and leave literally doubled over in pain as I did today after eating a salad. It is beyond frustrating to get your hopes up about gluten free options only to find that they aren't remotely careful about food allergies. Gf is just a fad at new moon and they're making a mockery of people who actually need to know their food is safe. The staff are always cold, aloof, bored, and unfriendly, even before I politely ask them to take special care with my food. I will never eat there again.
(2)Ali K.
My girlfriend had been raving about this place since it opened, she kept saying ohhh i can't wait until you come to visit again because i want to take you to this new cafe that just opened. She said think of it like a starbucks but with a personal cozier non-franchise touch and relaxed atmosphere no uppity yuppies are on their laptops pretending to write a screenplay. So on my next visit she ended taking me here and i was pleasantly surprised at how laid back the atmosphere was. A few conversations going on and some rare loud laughs but overall it was pretty quiet , not to quiet but you know just that right amount of it. Everyone was either reading a book, engaging in a conversation, or on a laptop getting some type of work done. The food selection here is pretty simple you can pick form a variety of coffees, sandwiches, soups, salads, smoothies and sweet tooth treats. But the food is made with that extra unique kick of fresh homemade ingredients. I had the grilled chicken and brie sandwich and added dijon mustard. You could also design your own sandwich if you are particularly picky like me. The sweet tooth treats such as their cupcakes, brownies, and cookies are so damn good and the perfect way to top off a meal. Overall this place is definitely somewhere i would go at least 3-4 x's a week if i was up in Vermont i'd prob stop by for lunch and chill out because it's a nice change of pace and so relaxed especially if you are taking a break from work for an hour you can have peace of mind here and not have to worry about the noise you may get from an eatery/cafe elsewhere.

I've been meaning to try this place out for a long time now but it seemed like every time we remembered to go it was closed. Looking back, this was most likely due to our big adventuring days being typically on Saturdays when they aren't open. Finally this past week, we remembered the hours and made it in on a Tuesday afternoon for lunch. My boyfriend and I both were very surprise by the space. Looking in you would think that the only seating available is what's in front of the counter. However, beyond the service area is a whole other world. We decided to sit in the large back room which despite the dark walls is actually pretty vibrant with great lighting and local artists on display. The vibrancy could also be credited to all the conversations being echoed about creating a slightly noisy but tolerable atmosphere. We actually enjoyed this aspect as well since we were so quietly invested in our food. If anything it gave the place energy. There were people at almost every table, half of which had laptops (tons of outlets!) which is very impressive for a Tuesday afternoon at 3pm. For those looking for peace and quiet, the front area had a much more cozy and relaxed vibe for just that. We built our own sandwiches but they do have a menu of different combinations as well for those who can't decide. I made a cheddar and tofu sandwich with mayo and cranberry chutney on mad river grain bread and my boyfriend created something more typical with turkey. I was actually extremely surprised at how great it turned out. I've had similar things before but everything seemed to fit perfectly. I think at the end of the day the credit would have to go to the quality of the foods, especially the tofu which was perfectly cooked for a sandwich. I didn't pay too much attention to my boyfriend's meal, but he did rave about the turkey. To top it of we both got a cupcake. I though the mini cupcakes were the perfect size. I've eaten way too many desserts over the holidays and really just needed something small and sweet to subside my ever growing cupcake craving. My caramel mocha cupcake was so good. The mocha cupcake was light and fluffy. The frosting was the perfect amount and sweetness as well. The star of this tiny dessert was the salt caramel drizzle though. It packs a lot of flavor and they put just the right amount on. I've had a few caramel cupcakes lately and honestly most of them were terrible which makes me think that they are a hard thing to master. This was by far the best one I've ever had. My boyfriend gobbled down his peanut butter cupcake which he said was very rich and very good also. I only gave this place 4 stars since the menu is fairly simple offering breakfast, sandwiches, salads, cupcakes, and espresso/coffee drinks and because it seems to be close a lot. We are however very impressed with our visit and will be going back ASAP for breakfast.
(4)Scarlet A.
My partner and I waited an hour for our breakfast sandwiches, with no explanation about the delay in service. Others seated in our area received the same delay of up to 45 minutes. I would expect nothing more than advance notice, or an explanation about the delay, but we were simply told "there was a kitchen back-up." Really? Because that just sounds like bad service to me.
(1)Geo N.
I absolutely positively love this place so much that I would be willing to come to Vermont just for this place. Okies, not just for this place but this would be my very first stop! Don't let the menu fool you. It may be small but once you get there, you see that you can create your own sammich and salad. They have tons of choices for both! I created my own chicken sammich on rye bread and every bite was better than the previous bite! Their baked goods are amazing too! You cannot go wrong with this place!!!!!!!
(5)John F.
My favorite place to chill and hang out with friends. Awesome made to order salads! Rest of the menu is stellar as well. Cool interior, relax in cozy sofa or chairs. Free wireless. Vegetarian/vegan menu items, including cupcakes! Did I mention that I LOVE their salads?!?
(5)Asaph B.
I had new moon food twice: Delicious salad with quality fresh ingredients, even the small salad was more than enough. I usually stay a away from wraps but the one I had was very tasty; great blend of turkey and cheese with pesto. Also, the drip coffee was great
(5)S R.
I wanted to give New Moon another chance because honestly, when I have eaten there I always really liked the food... and I'm glad I did, because I was not disappointed. Both times on recent visits I was greeted right away and helped quickly and pleasantly - the staff was very friendly. I got the Omega Salad the first time (which was so good... fresh spinach with chunks of artichoke and red tomatoes, walnuts, and salmon drizzled with just the right amount of sesame vinaigrette... yum) and had to go back a few days later to get it again. While I'm not vegan sometimes I like to try to not eat too much meat/dairy, so I was happy to discover that they have a new vegan menu that sounds amazing. Even vegan cupcakes! I'll be back for sure.

Went for a few days to Burlington and enjoyed almost every meal (thanks to yelping beforehand). This place is the only one we went to twice - I LOVE a big healthy salad and so does my spouse - he got a salad off the menu (the Omega) and I got one made to order both times. They have tons of excellent choices and you just keep adding things to make your perfect salad - many items are included in the base price but some things like meats are extra. The sandwiches (including build your own as well) look fantastic and we'll probably do that next trip. They also have cute little cupcakes and yummy sounding drinks. Lots of seating - couldn't be better.

First time there....loved the freshness and selection of foods. I loved eating on real dishes and using real silverware even though it was a walk up deli in a way. I thought the price was high. My friend and I got a sandwich, chips and a drink and it came to $27. We could have sat down and been waited on for that. The bathrooms were UNACCEPTABLE.....dirty

We needed to go do some errands and decided to go to New Moon for a late lunch...I had forgotten how much I liked this place...we were not disappointed...had carrot/ginger soup so good and the very helpful young lady behind the counter made us a wonderful salad. Hold on the piece de resistance are the cupcakes. Do not miss them, just two mouthfuls but so satisfying, 12 varieties. The people are really nice and helpful and the customers are a a good mix yes a lot of young people with their laptops...but that makes Burlington what it is...the few old people like us eating there did not feel out of place.

My boyfriend and I were just looking for a place to sit down and warm up with a cup of hot chocolate. It was impossible to figure out where to order because there were two registers and swarms of people (also trying to figure out where to go), so I asked an employee and was redirected. We ordered two hot chocolates, and while I was at the register, the woman ringing complained that she had to direct so many people and didn't understand why people didn't know where to go. Our hot chocolates came out lukewarm, so I brought them back up to be reheated. They still weren't really that hot, and the barista offered little apology. They were the most mediocre thing I've ever paid money for. It tasted like chocolate milk made with an insufficient amount of Hershey's syrup left on a radiator until it's slightly warm. It's pretty sad that I paid 7 dollars for these two hot chocolates. I have made better hot chocolate from Swiss Miss packets at home. Furthermore, the place is completely overrun by UVM students, to the extent that every single table (and the couches up front) were occupied with students using their laptops, one person to a table. Honestly, I feel like it's hard to screw up hot chocolate. This place clearly puts little care into it's products. I've gotten better service and better, cheaper hot chocolate from Dunkin Donuts. The ambiance is also a little tacky and tasteless--huge paintings of vegetables on the wall that make it feel like you're in a different version of panera bread or subway. It's a lame place--and in a town full of quirky, cute little spots, you'd be better to spend your money elsewhere.

I love pretty much everywhere I've been in VT so far. This place was a little different (it wasn't a sit down breakfast place) and it got busy by the time I was leaving for work. It was also really confusing to try to order as there were multiple lines and the food was put on the counter (i.e. you're supposed to wait for it but we sat around confused). I got scrambled eggs with lacy potatoes, wheat toast, and an iced tea. The lacy potatoes were the star and were more like thin strings of potatoes in a pancake form. They were most like hash than a potato crisp which I loved. They also had raspberry jam in those little containers that every breakfast joint in Burlington uses. The jam was great on the toast which was chewy and a little sour-doughy. The raspberry ice tea was pretty standard. The next time I went I had the kahlua dipped cinnamon raisin French toast which was sooo yummy. I had the ice tea again and a side of fruit. They do cut up the fruit there but it seemed like typical fruit salad (like the cheap buffet kind) without a lot of berries and fun fruit. The homefries were also good but if I had known they came with my meal, I would have gotten the lacy pancakes again.

Came here unexpectedly and pleasantly surprised!! Fast, friendly service of super fresh tasty food. Farmers mishmash was delicious, and coffee robust and flavorful!

New Moon is a great place to eat if you are looking for great soup, sandwich's, smoothies, salads, breakfast or just a good treat. I recommend trying their cupcakes. They are amazing! Also, they carry a gluten free brownie that tastes better than most regular brownies. This is hard to find. With the menu is so diverse you are sure to find something to please everyone. Besides tasty food, the atmosphere is great and the employee's are friendly. They have a restaurant area as well as a more lounge-like area with free Wi-Fi making this a great place to kick back and get some work done while eating. On top of all that, if you go here regularly for coffee, you can have a punch card and get a free drink here and there. It's always nice to be rewarded for being a loyal customer! The only downside to eating here is that some items are on the more pricey end for a lunch, but that is something you just have to live with in order to enjoy their delicious food!

Great vibe. Good food. Took a little while for the sandwiches to be grilled but well worth it. Yum!

The first place I went to eat when I moved to town was New Moon. I tried the chicken dumpling soup and it was SO GOOD. I keep going back hoping it will be there again. The only thing is that I get incredibly confused about where to pick up my food when its done. Last time it took a little while for my sandwich, and I got my soup way earlier. I kept coming back and awkwardly standing there, wondering would they call it out or bring it to me or did they forget about me or was I supposed to go the other end of the bar to pick it up? I think they did forget about me, and eventually they called out the sandwich and I got it about the time I finished my soup : ( I like eating my soup and sandwich together so I can dip the bread in the soup. I'm going to consider that day a lone incident, and I'll be back.

Really nice raspberry herbal iced tea, friendly staff and lots of places to sit. The salads and sandwiches looked great but I didn't have anything to eat.
(4)Quinn S.
Great coffee, but what the hell kind of cafe/restaurant is closed on Saturdays? Otherwise, the staff and decor are great, but I haven't tried the food. New Moon seems to have diverted a selection of the hippies and college students normally found at Muddy Waters and Radio Bean, but I've never found it to be crowded.
(3)Ron B.
Still very nice. Staff very friendly and helpful. You're not going to save a ton here, so don't come on a day when you're not expecting to pay a decent premium for lunch especially compared to what you're getting. But everything is always fresh, prepared well and even on busy days they keep the line moving. Still a great place for lunch and to hang out for a few hours.
(4)Stavros M.
Out of the 20 times that I've attempted to go here guess how many times they were open? Once. Worst hours I've ever seen!
(2)Ashley N.
Definitely one of my favorite places to eat in Burlington! Great food, cool vibe, and wifi
(5)Christina B.
Starbucks is closed right now so I tried New Moon. I walked in and was instantly in love! So cute! I enjoyed my extremely strong cup of coffee and my friend liked her blueberry muffin. I want to go back and try a cupcake or 2. :-) What? They're small and they look amazing!

Whenever the urge to act like a pretentious graduate student (which is what I am) by sitting in a dimly lit coffee shop with my laptop hits, this is the place I go. I love the atmosphere (warm, high ceilings, lots of fantastic artwork, and spacious), the seating options (plenty of tables and couches), and the food. The breakfast is always a hit, though it is disappointing they don't serve it all day. Their in-house quiche is always AMAZING- especially the tomato/basil/mozzarella. Free wifi, lots of great fresh food options, and awesome drinks, too. I'm sure in the summer, when they roll up the firehouse wall, it would be a very pleasant place to sit as well. The staff behind the counter is always friendly, too! I just wish they were open late into the night.

A simple, elegant cafe that strives to be just that. Nothing here is really going to amaze you, but New Moon commands an atmosphere that other cafes can only wish for. The Food 4/5 I can't say that I've ever been disappointed with what I've had here and routinely go just for salads. By far the best place to go in Burlington for a well-made salad. On the other hand, the espresso is excellent. And if you're not feeling like coffee, their smoothies are also above par simply because they're simple, blended fruits. The Service 3/5 The staff is certainly nice enough, but just shy of helpful. This could be because the prep area is in a pretty inconvenient location. Whatever it is, it seems to be out-of-step with the feel of a cafe. The Atmosphere 4/5 New Moon excels here, presenting a comfortable place to make your daily habitat if you so desire. The espresso-and-black themed cafe has just enough New York Loft to make it a warm and inviting kind of dark. However, the theme isn't far off from a number of similar restaurants in the area, so it doesn't quite deserve 5 stars.

I rolled into New Moon about a month ago for the first time since shortly after they opened. I had really enjoyed my meals on previous visits, (and being a Louisiana native, they got serious points for stocking Zapp's potato chips) but after being thown off a few times by their weird hours I stopped dropping by. But I was extremely excited to see that they had added an entirely new vegan section of the menu. And I've got to say, hand's down, they have the best vegan menu in town. Being a pretty crunchy town, you can find a vegan dish or two at plenty of restaurants around Burlington. But the dishes almost always seem like an afterthought by a chef who'd gladly take money from a vegan but would prefer not to contribute to their happiness. So while there are plenty of vegan options littering the menus of Burlington, very few are actually nutritionally balanced and/or tasty (cough... Skinny Pancake.. cough). But this is where New Moon really stands out. My wife and I shared the Macro-bowl and pan-seared seitan sandwich and both were fantastic. Great balance of flavor, very satisfying. Five stars on the food. While there are other really tasty vegan dishes in town, the farmhouse veggie burger (now egg-free) at the Farmhouse comes to mind, New Moon is the one place in Burlington where vegans have more than two really good options. And now for the bad... hours of operation. That's it. It's completely inconceivable to me that there's a good reason why a restaurant off Church St. would be closed on Saturdays. Why would you be closed the one day that half of Vermont and a sizeable chunk of Quebec is parading outside your front door?!?! And it kills me that this place closes at 6:30pm on weekdays. If you only do lunch service, I can begrudgingly accept that. But to stay open all afternoon, only to close right as the first wave of dinner patrons would show up makes no sense to me. For the record, I was one of these disappointed would-be patrons recently arriving at front door just as the "Open" sign was being flipped over. Devastating.... This would probably be my favorite spot in town if it was ever open for me to enjoy. But since I don't work downtown, weekday dinner and weekends are pretty much what I'm working with. And unfortunately, that makes Sunday my only shot. You've got the location, New Moon. You've got the atmosphere. You've even got the menu. Now if you'd just start keeping restaurant hours I've got a fifth star I'd be happy to throw your way ;)

New Moon is my favorite place to work with my laptop in Burlington, and the food and coffee are first class too. It's got super friendly people, a stylish rustic/modern interior, a warm fireplace in the winter, a big sunny raisable garage door type thing in the summer, fast, free wifi, electrical outlet, healthy, vegetarian-friendly options, and lots of comfortable space. New Moon cold press = the best iced coffee you've had so far. I gave New Moon props in the credits of the iPhone game my studio made (Spider: The Secret of Bryce Manor) because a significant portion of the game was made right here. Where else can you work with a laptop and a coffee in Burlington? Muddy Waters is beautiful but too hippie to have internet. Speeders has awesome coffee but is too small to sit and work. After going to Starbucks you have to spend a half hour showering off the evil. New Moon it is!

I really enjoyed eating here and its a super relaxed place. Ive been here twice and had sandwiches both time. You can build your own which is great because they don't really charge extra for anything. The salad bar is also quite extensive with a lot of different veggies to choose from. They also have 3 different sizes for the salads so you can get as little or as much as you like. The staff was really helpful when I was trying to decide what to get. Also, the sandwiches can be grilled making all of their wonderful ingredients taste even better. This seems like a really good place to sit and relax or study for the Vermont students and its in a really convenient area.

New Moon is a GREAT place. They have fantastic sandwiches and salads. I alway make my own salad and often get one of their fresh soups for a side. You can get one of the selections of salads or sandwiches or make your own. I highly suggest getting your sandwich pressed if you decide on that! It is an easy place to sit and relax, or even a great place to go study. It is a order, pay and then sit type of place. I highly recommend there ginger tea. When it gets warmer they open up the front of the restaurant so there is fresh air and sunshine!

Great open loft space with plenty of tables and leather couches. Massive outlets everywhere but Wifi is slow and a bit pricey. Staff is great with a nice variety on the menu. Don't go in unless you have a MAC Book.
(4)Kimberlee M.
The food at this place is hit or miss. Sometimes I feel like my order is great, others eh. However, I will say I enjoy this atmosphere for working i.e. writing or whatnot and I always order the island smoothie with the mango...amazing!!!
(3)Jon H.
I always get the brie and chicken sandwich with a side of kettle chips. The service delivers lunch so its perfect for ordering office lunches and what not. The summer smoothie is amazing in terms of sweet and freshness. Prices are decent, the variety is great (you can customize anything) and the service is pretty quick. A great spot for lunches with some fresh variety and without the heaviness or the blandness of places like Subway or Quizno's.

How this place can get anything more than 3 stars is beyond me. I live locally and end up at New Moon sometimes. Mostly because Viva Espresso sadly closed this summer but also because it's relatively convenient. I'll start with positives: Location is great. Wide selection for what I consider to be a coffee house (salads, sandwiches, muffins, coffee, tea, smoothies..) Friendly staff. Open on Sundays. Wifi. Not-so-positives: (This is based on multiple visits.) Total lack of atmosphere, especially in the back room. Closed on Saturdays. How are you located across from Penny Cluse and NOT open on a Saturday? Average food, particularly sandwiches. Definitely not good value for money, other than the drinks. Very hit or miss food-wise. The electrical plugs in the back room have not been working so I have stopped even thinking of going to New Moon because I usually need to plug something in during a meeting or an afternoon coffee stop. And this is personal pet-peeve, but what is the point of locating your kitchen in such an awkward place as to block out a street-side window? It creates a dead spot on Cherry Street and Burlington doesn't need those on or near Church Street. Sitting in window is a big draw for coffee shop folks and advertises to others to come in and spend money. It's unfortunate that New Moon isn't more competitive. Meaning that the whole experience of New Moon is not on par with many other eateries/restaurants/coffee shops in BTV. You have such a big space, it's a shame that you haven't been able to make it an institution on the Burlington scene. Sorry for the less-than-stellar review, but you've earned it.

I'm giving New Moon 3-3.5 stars. I had a salad, which was good but pricey considering it's a coffee shop. I thought their selection of toppings were very nice and the salmon that I topped it with was really tasty. However, a make your own salad there definitely adds up. I tasted the soup of the day, some type of tomato and chickpea. Very hearty but decided not to order it. It's a little dark and it closes at 7:00 p.m. but a nice option if you want a coffee shop with good food options.

I salivate just at the sight of New Moon...but always happen to wind up there when it's closed!? I have no idea, just bad luck I guess. Honestly best fruit & yogurt parfait in town. Plain, tangy, whole yogurt layered with fresh berries, pineapple, grapes, and strawberries...all topped off with a hefty scoop of AWESOME homemade granola. To truly express my love for this breakfast would require the use of several expletives. I'll save you the offense and leave you with a strong recommendation to TRY THE PARFAIT at New Moon :)
(4)Dave B.
The salad we had there was really good (nice portions), but the sandwich was small and expensive. I really did appreciate the fresh ingredients and "make it while you watch" approach though. I'd definitely go again.
(4)Kristi P.
Love the smoothies, hate the price.... Everything I had was good. The menu was interesting and I liked the dinning area and set up for ordering.

Overpriced, meager portions and overall average quality sandwiches.

This is one of my favorite places to read an absorbing book--after a few hours when your stomach starts to rumble, you can order some of the best coffee in the U.S. and then eat amazingly fresh salads and sandwiches (and pumpkin pie!). The small salads are enormous and can last an entire day--and you can build your own with banana peppers, olives, artichoke hearts that taste like they've never even heard of cans, and avocado. And, like everyone else has mentioned, the decor is out of this world. Beautiful local wood and amazing chandeliers that make you feel like you've gone to another time and place.
(5)Christine M.
This is my favorite coffee shop in the Burlington area. Delicious coffee, always a place to sit and plug in your laptop, friendly staff, great atmosphere. The food is delicious as well. I just wish they were open on Saturdays!
(4)Lila T.
I tend to like restaurants that have a super customizable menu where you "build your own" food and this place lets you design your own salad or sandwich or smoothie. I went here for lunch and split a salad and a sandwich with the boyfriend. They use nice, fresh ingredients but the preparation is a little hasty / sloppy (for example the salad we got had big gobs of goat cheese, which should have been broken up into smaller pieces if the server had mixed up the salad more. He also went way overboard with the mustard... when it comes to dijon, less is more). I thought the roast beef they use here is above average but not as good as you'd get at a "real" Deli. I'm super picky about roast beef so I wouldn't order it again but there are lots of other sandwich combinations that sound interesting. The decor is really cool - they have a beautiful chandelier with colored glass and we spent about 10 minutes taking photos of it.

i've only ordered a caesar salad to-go from new moon, but i was surprised at how bad it really was. i mean, it's a salad. heaps of croutons, almost no chicken (for an extra $1.95), and something very gritty that i can only guess was the product of unwashed lettuce. all for $13. no thanks.
(1)Cai L.
Love this spot. Great staff -- get to know 'em! -- and great selection of beverages and food. Get the Omega salad! Sometimes the soups are questionable, but the staff is always very honest about what they think is good and fresh that day. The place is relaxed and you can camp out on your computer for a while (though I try to order something every 45 minutes or so, so as not to tie up a seat). I love the decor -- big fireplace, funky colorful chandelier, big wood tables. The back room is private enough that you can have lunch meetings, too. Some may find it a bit odd that New Moon is closed on Saturdays, but I believe it's to honor the Sabbath. Otherwise, the hours are great! Just make sure you get there before 11am so some of the samples are left... :)
