I've been here twice and always really impressed by this place. I've had some excellent food here. Nice atmosphere - it's the old train station that has been re-modeled and brought back to life. Nice character to the joint. I've had some excellent steak here. As I recall, they used an edible fower as a garnish. I thought that was a nice touch. Buddy of mine was less than impressed with this place but I have no idea why. Maybe he didn't like his food? Who cares. I thought it was great - nice menu, nice atmosphere, fine service. Good place - if you don't know where to go when you're in the area, go here.

We had a reservation for 7pm. We arrived exactly on time and were told that it would be a 15 minute wait because they had some big groups. We waited 15 minutes. Nothing happened. We went to the desk and asked and they said that it would probably be another 10 minutes. We gave up and left.

I have to again rate this establishment 5 Stars, friendly service , everything is fresh and served in a great presentation at a large helping at a perfect temperature. Do not miss this place when in the area.

Fantastic service, food and space sums up this spacious restaurant. Don't miss this place if you are in the Bennington area. Originally a train depot now a large space but arranged with intimacy in mind. Sat by the fireplace and enjoyed a variety of wonderful dishes from a large plate of meatloaf to a gorgeous bowl full of buttery, brothy mussels and a rich, mushroom and lobster ragout. Don't like the wines by the glass...(they are awful) get a bottle and take the remainder home. Don't skip the dense and delicious chocolate cake, ganache and all! Glad we came out on one of the coldest nights of the year to have our souls and bellies filled.

FANTASTIC! I have lived in Bennington all my life and have only been to the Bennington Station a few times because of the negative vibe people have for it. THAT HAS CHANGED. I went there for dinner last night and my god was it good!! Prices were excellent and the food was even better. You can tell the waitresses very working there and gave great recommendations. Kate was our waitress and she was able to answer any questions we asked with expert knowledge and a sweet smile on her face. I ordered the special Pasta Fino which had extremely fresh seafood and mushrooms in it. My parents ordered the Summer Salmon and the Lobster Pasta: ALL dishes were beautifully presented and tasted fresh, flavor-filled, and very large portion size for the price (all around $21). Cannot recommend the Bennington Station enough! We will certainly be going back a lot and have made a goal to try all of the menu items:) DO NOT PASS UP THIS GEM!

I've been to the Bennington Station twice recently, and had a pleasant experience both times. The salad bar was fresh and had a lot of options. Yesterday, I ordered the lobster pasta special. It was a cream sauce over linguini loaded with mushrooms and large pieces of lobster meat. I loved it! They always have a large selection of specials which is great. While I was there yesterday they even had a woman playing the piano; it was lovely. The restaurant also garnishes everything with beautiful flowers! The only negative to the Bennington Station is that it is a bit pricy for Bennington, Vermont, but worth the price because of the pretty good service and salad bar.

This place just doesn't do it for me. It's like a chain without a chain but still the predictably bland food lacking creativity. I have never understood the draw. While the service is good and the menu has enough offerings, the food is terribly boring. Portion sizes are too big and there is one section of the restaurant is always cold.

First time eating here. Was blown away by how amazing the food was. Presentation was great and the food was amazing. We can't wait to go back. Personally, I wish the salad bar was bigger and the lettuce was a little wilted. I ordered vermont chicken and my boyfriend ordered blackened shrimp pasta. We were both more than happy. It is a more expensive restaurant, but food was awesome.

Came here for my wedding anniversary and returned two years later with the entire family. The atmosphere is really nice, service is good, drinks are good and the food is good. I hope this place stays open for many years to come. It has been added to my list of places to visit annually.

We had a 135-ish biker party here last June and the staff and service were excellent. Looking forward to the same this weekend! Thanks a ton-

The location, for a rail buff or history buff, is excellent. The station has been beaufifully restored and tastefully remodeled. They had an electric piano player when we were there which added to the atmosphere. The wait staff, from the hostess to the waitress, were friendly and attentive. When the hostess found out I like RR stuff and history, she came back to our table to recommend some of the pictures on the walls to look at. The food was very good and the presentation beautiful. I had the clams casino which were very good, but did have a bit of grit in some. The Vermont chicken was good, but the maple flavoring was a bit sweeter than I anticipated. It also didn't have quite as much apple etc stuffing as I would have expected. My wife has much better food sense than I do, and she was very pleased with her crab cakes and sea bass. She also loved the fresh orchids that adorned some of our plates.

The service was nice, but the food needs a HUGE improvement. Such a shame, because you'd think such an expensive place would have some top notch dishes.

My wife and I took my niece and her family here for dinner this evening. We arrived just before our reservation time and our table was waiting. There were a total of 6 of us in the group. 4 adults and 2 fairly young children. Unlike the last reviewer's experience, apparently no one was out sick as we found the wait staff quite pleasant and extremely attentive. I began with the Clams Casino appy which was excellent. Whole clams with very fresh and tasty breading and bacon. Cooked perfectly, not the least bit dried out. Both my wife and nephew opted for the Gorgonzola Encrusted Filet off the seasonal specials menu (but the wife requested no cheese, which they happily complied with). Both were quite pleased with the dish. Both servings were cooked to order and the both raved over the meat itself. Tasty and tender. The sides of horseradish mashed with bacon and string beans were also tasty. My niece opted for a crock of French Onion Soup along with the salad bar. She enjoyed the soup and salad, from the available offerings on the bar but it could stand to have a few more options. I ordered the Twin Center Cut Pork Chops with caramelized apples and cider demi glace. The chops were boneless and a nice size. They were cooked perfectly, tender and juicy. They were served with garlic mashed and and a mix of green beans, peppers and broccoli, both of which were very good. Off the children's menu we ordered a hamburger and chicken fingers for the kids. I really only had 2 issues with the meal. The first was with the pork chops. The cider demi glace didn't really do much for them at all. I really wasn't getting an apple flavor from it or the caramelized apples. Fortunately, there was some decent apple sauce on the salad bar which helped quite a bit. The other issue was with the burger. Despite the server double-checking at the time it was ordered that we did NOT want cheese, a cheeseburger showed up. That said, the kid didn't really care so we did not send it back. Overall, we all enjoyed our meals, even the chops. I was here once before 3 or 4 years ago and remember not being overly impressed with the food. Apparently there has been a change of management or chef, can't remember which, and it showed. I'd definitely return when in town but I'd probably opt for a steak the next time.

They had a good luncheon buffet with both turkey & cod. A lot of good food at a reasonable price. I sat in a small room with windows on three side - excellent ambiance.

My mom and I always go out to lunch when I come home for the holidays, and usually always in Bennington. It isn't hard to visit every restaurant in town, but I somehow had never been to the Bennington Station Restaurant, so we decided to give it a whirl. It was about 1pm on black friday and we are seated in the front area, and I immediately wish they would turn the heat up a bit, I was freezing. After that the server forgot to bring my mom her tea, and then when our food arrived (we both ordered burgers, but mine was med. rare, and hers was med. well) our server switched our burgers so I ended up with a very well done burger, something that is unforgivable. Needless to say, we were not very happy with our experience, especially since they were not that busy. Will I return? Probably not.

The service was very prompt and nice and the building is cool, but the food needs to improve. While the salad bar was a welcome touch, the entrees were disappointing. Both of ours were very salty, my wife's chicken was overcooked and dry. My shrimp scampy had decent shrimp and a large portion, but the pasta and sauce were just garlicy and salty to the point where all the other flavors were buried.

Good food (I particularly like the salad bar) and good service. The only problem is the wait for the food after ordering: they are consistently slow. I would not want to be in a party larger than 4 or 5. Luckily the food is worth the wait.

We had been here before and was so good! But maybe they've changed hands. The service was just okay. The food was not even that good. I ordered a burger with "sauteed mushrooms & grilled onions". The burger was a previously frozen patty, the mushrooms looked & tasted like they came from a can, and the onions had no flavor at all! The fries were barely warm and tasted like the oil had not been changed for some time. The "freshly brewed" iced tea tasted like instant. The waitress's only comment when she saw that I only ate 1/4 of the burger was to ask if I wanted it wrapped. Never did she ask if everything was okay or if we were enjoying our food. We'll NEVER go back! Too bad, it used to be really good.
