What a great find. My hub and I were there last night. The food was incredible and very fresh. The hub had the pork chop and I had the scallops, they were huge and perfectly done. Chop was moist and tasty. I asked for tarter sauce (item states that it comes with it). I thought, tater sauce for scallops, why ruin them, but then thought, hmm if this place is making their own stuff, lets check it out. It was perfect and really complemented the scallops without overpowering them. The sauce had a light flavor that added to them. I was quite pleased. The asparagus was done perfectly and was probably the best we have had (and I grow it in my garden). We asked for a side salad as one of our sides. It was small fresh and very tasty. I am gluten intolerant (causes tons of joint pain for me). I asked the waiter if they were good with that. He stated that almost everything is made in house so they know what is in what and very little gluten is used. When ever we go out to eat, my husband sits there and enjoys the bread plate without me. Sometimes the bread looks just incredible. I sit there and drool. Last night, the waiter brought me out a plate of roasted garlic (fresh out of the oven, now you are drooling right???) with olive tapanade (sp?) and rice crackers and one with bread for my husband. I was truly blown away. It was awesomely decadent. It was also unheard of to bring out a gluten free plate for someone. I just don't have the words to describe how good that made me feel. I am so used to being left out. Also glad to report, no joint pain from meal. :-) Go to the Butcher station to sit awhile and enjoy every bite and think about how good life truly is. It is one of those restaurants. Thanks for the awesome meal Butcher Station. Oh FYI it was a bit hard to find and we drove by it once.

This is exactly the kind of place I love to find. Thank you Yelp!! Had dinner there with BF. Not kid un-friendly, just pretty upscale prices for most kids. Great for a date. The signage could be better as it is pretty tucked away in a shopping plaza. Other than that I really had no complaints and only compliments. We both loved our food. The owner/manager came to our table, checked everything was to our satisfaction, and chatted with us. We even chatted with the small family next to us about their entrees. Reservations are a REALLY good idea, so small it fills up fast. Meats are specialized so definitely for omnivores. Quantities of each fresh meat varies based on local market so get there early if you want a certain entree. We would definitely go back and recommend to others. Not a chain restaurant experience !! Five stars for price vs. quality/service/atmosphere. Service - excellent Food quality - excellent Price - On the high end of moderate Atmosphere - small, intimate, clean, nice casual

I was expecting to be a bigger fan of the Butcher Station than I was. We will probably go back and check it out again, because good restaurants can never be judged by one visit. The food was decent, I like that its local, a bit more honest in the way of ingredients. That said, it wanst as good as I was expecting, and though the prices werent bad, for us there are just a number of other places in the area that have a better combination of food to price ratio. They DO have Abt 12 on tap, which is awesome, but Ive heard its pretty ridiculously expensive here.

OK, the food here is nothing short of amazing. I sat at the bar tonight on my quest for a steak. I was in Front Royal VA for job training for 7 weeks and found this on the 2nd to last day :(. The people working there were really cool, i met one of the owners and he was concocting some wacky Parmesan snow... Really pal, you belong in a 5 star restaurant. The woman that cooked my meal came out and we chatted a bit also (they weren't busy) she has some kinda culinary education, don't recall. The waiter was very friendly and knew his menu and specials well. Its not like going to a crappy chain (there are so many nowadays) where the server has no clue. The steak was sirloin, and i got the asparagus and mashed potatoes, a salad, and homemade cheesecake w/ homemade whipped cream (yes it was really homemade :)). The steak was cooked to perfection, a great crisp on the edges and so tender. The meat is local which i love, its always better when places use fresh local ingredients IMO. The asparagus and mashed potatoes were good, but nothing crazy, not much u can do to make them more then they are. The salad was really good, i got it w/ blue cheese, and that was fresh crumbles in there. My cheesecake was excellent also, caramel sauce and fresh whipped cream. This place shoulda been packed IMO w/ how good the food is. My only surprises were the bill, and how damn hard it was to find lol (all the way in the back of the plaza) i thought the check was a bit high for the area $68.00+, i tipped the guy a 20 tho. I think its still worth it in the long run. High quality food and service is worth paying for. Remember this stuff goes into your body... I shoulda asked before i ordered how much the steak was (30.00 for about 12 oz) but again it was fresh local meat and cooked to perfection. I just hope in 7 years when I'm back for work they are still around :P. I will recommend the place to all the guys that come here for training in the future. Might come back to Shenandoah park over the summer to hike, and ill bring the wife there. I forgot, you wont find normal beer on tap, its all specialty which I like... who wants Bud, Miller or Coors anyway, people need to get out more.

Very good food and craft beer on draft. They have craft beer from IPA to Stout and Bock. Got there for happy hour on the appetizers. I had the quarter pound of steamed shrimp. Very good. To continue with the seafood theme, I had the carb cakes with Augratin potatoes and sautéed kale. Again, very good. There claim to fame is using as much locally provided foods and ingredients. That makes the difference in the quality of food. Note that this is both a market and restaurant. Maybe a dozen tables at the most for eating. Service was fast and cooked to order. I would go back again and I highly recommend this restaurant.

One of the Top spots in Winchester. Stopped by for lunch after reading other reviews. I had the sunrise burger (with an egg) and a couple of oysters as a start. This was one of the best meals I've had in Winchester. Fresh local food, good beer and wine options, a overall pleasant surprise. Planning a return for happy hour specials for more oysters and to try the wings.

I had a customer of mine tell me that they had the best hamburgers around. Who isn't up for a great burger. So I checked it out. I will say without a doubt that it was the best hamburger I have ever had in my life!!! The hamburger meat is beyond fresh and seasoned perfectly. The only complaint I would say is that I asked for medium and it was cooked medium well. But that didnt matter with the way it tasted. The bun was great. Not bigger then the burger. The toppings were very fresh and the bacon was cooked perfectly. I also had the fries with mine which were very good as well. If you are looking for a burger then you have found the best little secret around.

Delicious. Amazing. Great fresh food, prepared to perfection. Great beer and wine selection too.
(5)Arin S.
The food is amazing and the server was very friendly-- they brought me a birthday dessert! I was also into the casual feel of it. I really like eating quality food in a non-pretentious environment. I balked a little at the price (I've had cheaper back home in NYC) but it was worth it. Outside of Winchester I may have given it 4 stars, but I'm so pleased to go back home and find a place like this that I can't help myself.
(5)Gerald G.
Stopped in because of yelp rating. Very nice atmosphere. Great beer selection. Had a Cuban and some collard greens (they were great). It is difficult to find nice, non chain restaurants. I am glad to have found this and will return.

Best burgers my parents and I have ever tried, not to me tion good quality meat. And we come from New York City, so thats saying a lot. Everything was incredible and very satisfying, even the drinks were to die for!!

I'm not sure who writes the good reviews on this site for The Butcher Station, but I can only agree with reviewers such as David B. and others that gave a rating of 2 star. I just relocated from Washington, DC to Winchester and had my parents in for a visit. My dad found TBS after a Google search and suggested we go there. I had never heard of TBS but since I was new to the area I thought we should all give it a try. I made a 7 o'clock reservation and was actually late to dinner because I drove by TBS two different times. Very poor signage as stated in other reviews. It is a small hole in the wall establishment with a small sign on the sidewalk. Once inside, the décor looked nice and it had a rustic atmosphere to it. I was impressed until I sat down and settled in. The table wobbled and people were placed too close together. I felt like I was having dinner with the couple beside us as our conversations carried to the next table quite easily. The menu is small, with locally sourced produce and meats. My father and I ordered a Porterhouse steak after we were told it was a dry aged meat and it was locally sourced. The waiter returned 10 minutes later to inform us that they only had Ribeye's left and we chose that instead. No price was stated on the menu for the steak and that should have been clue number one. They were also out of garlic potatoes as well. We ordered a cheese plate for a appetizer which actually came before our drinks. I had a iced tea, my mother had a coke and my father had a Indian pale ale. You should always get drinks before a appetizer comes to the table, especially in a nicer establishment. The cheese plate for $12 dollars consisted of 3 small slivers of cheese and some bread. Outrageous for the quantity. I would expect that price/quantity in DC but not in little WInchester, Va. The waiter didn't even explain what type of cheese he gave us, which in fine establishments is a given. As I agree with other reviewers, why have a limited menu and limited seating if you run out of most items. Again, this was only 7 pm. I ordered the steak medium well which should have come out with a tiny bit of pink inside, instead it came out oozing with blood. I'm not a fan of sending back a steak for a second sear because in my opinion it ruins the texture and flavor. So I dealt with it. The steak was FULL of gristle and fat which made it more expensive by weight, instead of trimming some of the fat around the edges. On top of that, as mentioned previously, our table wobbled and it made for a heck of a time for two men to cut a steak and eat it. My mother's crab cake was not fully done as well. To top it off, our seating location was near the front door and butcher counter. We had to sit and watch as meat was being cut up and discarded into the trash can along with uneaten food from customers that left. That is not the sight you want to behold when eating at a nice place. I did enjoy the mashed potatoes served in place of the garlic whole potatoes and the kale was good as well. Although the portions were incredibly small. When we finished, the waiter brought us the check. I was shocked to a $134 bill!! They charged us $38 for a ribeye that was approximately 8 ounces. That is a Ruth Chris Steakhouse price which TBS doesn't even compare to in terms of steak quality. My dad asked the waiter to sit down at our table and politely scolded him on the quality and price of the food. The waiter was nice and informed him that he has heard many people complain--actually a couple were complaining about their food 3 tables from us. He informed us that he used to work at the 'W' hotel down in DC across from the White House and he agreed that the prices were not on par with the quality of food or atmosphere. That is bad when a waiter that relies on tips agrees with his patron's. I have to say, after living in DC and traveling Europe, that this place is nowhere near on the level of other fine establishments. I will never give my business back to TBS and my parents agree. Take your money to other establishments. I'm a big guy at 6'5 and I was so hungry afterwards, that we went to a local pizza place Umberto's and got a pie for $15 after spending $150 after tip on dinner!

Pros: I had the breakfast wrap and freshly baked chocolate scone...delish. We were greeted quickly. I like the casual but quality atmosphere. The ingredients are fresh and mostly local! Everything is handmade, bread is made there, meat is smoked there. The scone was being baked when we arrived, it was so soft, moist and put other scones to shame. The bacon in the breakfast wrap was especially delicious. The coffee was made fresh and refilled quickly. You can sense the pride that they have in their ingredients. Cons: The dining room is not really separate from the retail area (I didn't mind, but it is unusual). Summary: I didn't expect to find this level of quality in a strip mall in Winchester, Va. I love being pleasantly surprised. I will return for sure.
(5)Jeffrey F.
This was not a good experience for us. Went there with some work colleagues and the beef was really overcooked, the sides just average. I wouldn't say it was really bad, but it definitely wasn't great and I'm not sure I'd go back.

Headed back to Maryland after a college tour trip to Lynchburg and W&L with two starving boys...looking for something good to eat. The consensus was seafood. After a searching Yelp at various spots along the route, we settled on The Naked Oyster in Winchester, VA. A call to confirm whether they were open resulting in being redirected to The Butcher Station. We were informed that The "Oyster" had closed down but that the "Station" was open and serving food. About an hour later and a little random driving to locate the restaurant, we were sitting in the small dining room. Time to cut to the chase...this is not a fancy schmancy place...but the food is amazing. Starters: Wife had vichyssoise ...very tasty. The boys shared a pound of large, nicely seasoned Gulf shrimp...freshly steamed...peel and eat at its finest. Entrees: Seared scallops, dry aged ribeye steak, clam steamers, clams, mussels and chorizo in broth...even a burger. All nicely seasoned, perfectly cooked and delicious! Fresh baked bread, nice sides, friendly faces...this place is a diamond in the rough! This brother and sister combo are working hard to make great food. Skip atmosphere...this is foodie food and well worth the trek. Winchester has a blossoming dining destination. Well done!

We overall enjoyed this place very much. I had the crab cakes and my husband had the NYC strip. Loved that everything is homemade and locally grown. If their bathroom, carpet, bread choice, and kitchen visibility had as much attention to quality and ambiance as their food, this would have been a five star.
(4)Kacy B.
Loved this place! Went in for a "late" (for Winchester) dinner and were the only patrons. Service was quick and friendly and the food was great. We had the scallops, which were cooked to absolute perfection and the New York strip - good, but a tad rare for my taste. My fiance enjoyed it though. Other standouts were the potatoes gratin and the carrots cooked with dill and hickory syrup (we inquired because the flavor was so unique and delicious). If I lived in the area, I would eat here as often as possible.

I've dined here a handful of times, but mostly go to buy from the meat case. The beef is consistently fresh and delicious. It's a bit more pricey than Martin's, but there is no comparison in quality. If I'm tight for cash, I'll get cheaper cuts or ground beef, and if I'm feeling flush, I might spring for some steaks. But regardless, it's fantastic coming off the grill. Two or three times I've stopped by during happy hour, and was amazed at both the quality and quantity of seafood I got for a few bucks. Loved the oysters and steamed crab legs, especially. This is the first place I send out of town friends to, when they ask. Really good food, really nice people, and not too expensive.

We had almost the whole menu tonight. In our party, there was someone with food allergies and another who is gluten intolerant. The staff was friendly and accommodating, willing to modify the menu. Everything we are was delicious. The crab cakes have almost no filler, scallops were well seasoned, and the steak was one of the best we have ever had. We enjoyed it so much, we even bought some yogurt from the freezer for breakfast. Though it is in a shopping center, the inside is quaint and comfortable. We had a great meal and would definitely go back.

We were very happy with our stop for lunch during our travels. Food was outstanding! Service was great, nice people. A definite must stop! Cowboy burger and Cuban sandwich with fries and cucumber salad. yes!

Finally made it in to the restaurant today for a late lunch after a long trip to Winchester to eat at another place that was too swamped by a local street fair. I had noted that they source their products locally as much as possible and put it on my list of places to try in Winchester. Wow, I am glad the other place did not work out. First things first, what a treat to find a place actually owned by a real family who works together in the restaurant, rather than some faceless corporation churning out pre-portioned frozen frankenfood! Anyone wondering whether the beef is fresh can look into the butcher shop part of the kitchen and see one of the co-owners butchering up a cow for the evening. You can almost hear the moo! We had different variations of their burger, including one with roast pork on top. The burger was absolutely tremendous. The flavor incredible. Thick as a brick, served on a house-baked roll. The wait staff was very friendly and dedicated to making customers feel welcome. We had a minor mix-up with our orders, but what could have been a real annoyance was quickly mitigated by one of the owners, who was determined to make things right. The burger was the star of the show, to be sure. Perhaps a bit more attention to the supporting actors would benefit the place. The sides could have used a bit of a boost, if I had to find something to criticize. This is the kind of place that you really, really want to succeed. They deserve to succeed. I would make the hour plus trip to Winchester just to eat there. You should too!!!

Outstanding dinner. Great service. .. had the roast beef which had great flavor but needed just a touch more salt. The sheppards pie was just about perfect.

We had a friend visiting from out of town who wanted to go to a steakhouse. Using Yelp, I quickly eliminated the chain restaurants and found The Butcher Station. The reviews all looked good, so we went. I was surprised at how small it was, but I figured we'd get lots of personal attention and I was right. I was impressed when I found out it was a Farm to Table venture - so glad something like this is happening in my neck of the woods! Our server was very attentive and explained the concept of the restaurant quickly, and described the specials, including how many of them were left! This impressed me with the fact that their entrees are made in small batches -- always a good sign. We ordered wine and beer. At least one of their wines is locally made, which my friend ordered. The wine list is short but good, and has something for every budget. DOn't know anything about beer, so I won't comment. The steaks we ordered - tenderloins and a rib-eye - were cooked to perfection (medium rare, in my opinion, the only way to eat steak!). I don't want to use a lot of cliches here, relating steak to butter, etc. but suffice it to say we ate very well. We'll definitely make the trip back down to Winchester to sample this place again.
(5)Kortni W.
I had the crab cakes and mashed potatoes. My husband had a T-bone steak. Everything was done perfectly. Would definitely recommend this place to anyone who wants to eat at a very good restaurant.
(5)Edward G.
We ordered a roast beef sandwich and burgers. I was able to choose the gratin potatoes in lieu of french fries. Awesome. The food is locally grown and processed. Had it not been for my wife who thought the food needed more salt, I would have given this a 5.
(4)S S.
If you like burgers, you'll love theirs. I ordered it medium and was perfectly cooked. The meat is much better than what most other restaurants serve. Both the egg and the bacon were the same -and they used the right bun. Everything was to perfection. I won't hesitant to order it again. The next time I dined here was for lunch with friends. The downside was that the owner's kids (3 of them) were there too. They helped "serve" and it was distracting. I think the kitchen was distracted too as our lunches were not on par as with other meals we have enjoyed there. It's sad when you take out of town friends to a place you've raved about and it's just not as good as it has been before.

After reading about the Butcher Station in Chester Magazine, I decided to go visit to check it out. I've just moved back to Winchester from the Cleveland area, so I'm really missing anything that might resemble West Side Market. The Butcher Station seems like it will be precisely what I need to fill that void! They sell local meats and dairy as well as fresh-baked bread. I was *delighted* to find that they sell milk in glass bottles that you can return for money off your next purchase- something I was definitely missing after getting used to Ohio's Hartzler's milk. With the ability to match local suppliers with Winchester area customers, this place looks like it could become the ideal provider for those foodie cooks who find how the product was produced to be as important as the quality of the product itself. I picked myself up some chocolate milk (which was excellent: whole milk with a good dose of chocolate that made it richer than the normal grocery-store chocolate milk) and have every intention of returning soon for a meal in the store and to pick up some of their bacon.

I found this place on Yelp and was really excited to try it out while I was in Winchester. I was definitely not disappointed! It's small, but very nice. Low lights, very nice simple decor, but it doesn't feel TOO fancy, not snobby or anything. We had accidentally came in a little close to closing but we didn't feel rushed at all. The waiter was incredibly helpful and polite and knowledgeable about everything in the menu. The food was great, and cooked exactly how I asked. The only reason I'm giving this four stars is because the menu was very limited, I would have preferred a couple more options, and the prices were a little high considering the portions.
(4)Andrew B.
Had lunch here today, had their baked potato soup and the Cowboy Burger. There's not a lot you can to to change a burger, but they did it. It was made from local, dry cured beef and was filet mignon on a bun. The BBQ sauces were local as well and we delicious. I will definitely be coming back here. Local, fresh, organic food without the local, organic price. Best burger I've had in a while!
(5)J h.
I've read 45 reviews and the negative ones only reflect that some people can NEVER be satisfied. I just had the best Burger I've eaten in 10 years. It was called a swiss melt. The burger does NOT come with a bun unless you ask for it! It was perfectly cooked just as I ask and comes with Bacon, swiss cheese, mushrooms and lettace. I ordered the garlic mash potatoes which had the right amount of garlic not to strong, with sweet carrots. My desert was a home made Raspberry Cheese Cake, home made and probably the best I've ever had, the raspberry flavor was incredible. BEATS the Cheese Cake Factory Restaurant cheese cakes, hands down. The service was very nice as well. The owner is also the Chef and takes pride in preparing your food as ordered. Don't miss out on this hidden gem of a restaurant. I'm NOT a family member or friend of the owners but feel that a resataurant like this is deserving of my review. I applaud and praise the owners for providing a quality product. The menu prices are somewhat expensive for the area but the food is fresh and all locally grown. The atmosphere is quaint and log cabinish on the inside but I wasn't there for the ambiance!
(5)Leanne G.
My foodie side steered me here, but I was disappointed. Waiter was devoid of personality. Crab cakes were below average. Husband's Porterhouse was tough. The patron in the table next to use got a tough Porterhouse and sent it back. Bread, heh. Very overpriced. Won't be back.
(2)Mike F.
Great food & service. Fresh, flavorful & interesting dishes. By far, the best food that I've had in Winchester. We definitely will return.
(4)Brian B.
I went to the Butcher Shop for happy hour and I'm glad I did. Great food, small but good selections of beer and wine, friendly staff and decent prices. The waitstaff is small so they got overwhelmed quickly with our group of 12 and a few other people that were in the restaurant. They still did a good job and I will be going back.
(4)Scott M.
Another great yelp find! Service was friendly and the food was wonderful. I had the NY strip and it was perfectly prepared. The fresh house made fries were to die for. One in our group had scallops that couldn't have been better. All their food is prepared when ordered so be ready for a wait while you enjoy their appetizers and drinks.
(5)K E.
We came here because of the yelp reviews and agree that this place is fantastic. They have a great draft beer and the food was cooked perfectly. I had the burger melt with swiss cheese and sautéed mushrooms. There was no bun hence the burger melt vs. a hamburger, but no need for one because it was cooked exactly how I asked and the flavor of the meat was delicious. Our waiter was professional and very attentive. Overall a great dinning experience for fresh and locally sourced meat and vegetables.
(5)kelly m.
Thanks to the great reviews from yelpers, I made a point to stop here over the weekend to pick up some meat for the grill. I chose a giant porterhouse ($14.99/lb) and some pork chops ($5.99/lb). They were amazingingly delicious, gorgeous, and fresh. Better than anything from the grocery store and cut to order. Many options. Go get some!

Knowing I would spend a night in Winchester, I spent time reviewing restaurants and found The Butcher Shop after some digging. I took my family and girlfriend out to dinner upon my return from a 6 month overseas trip where "food" was far from appetizing. After being seated in the small dining area, we ordered beverages and food. The shop is small and has only about a dozen tables. Raw meat is in the case that can be chosen from for dinner or to purchase for home cooking. Salads and other freshly made sides are available as well. We shared multiple appetizers (cured meat, oysters, and olives). All were found to be full of flavor and delivered to our table quickly. Dinner for myself was the last tenderloin steak in the case (served medium rare perfectly!), collared greens, and quinoa salad... plus a small cucumber salad that looked, and tasted, great! Other dinners were the scallops (also cooked to perfection) and crab cakes (I didn't try them, but saw that they had minimal filler and was told the tasted great). Although slightly difficult to find (on yelp! and in the shopping area the restaurant is located), the service and meal were well worth the trip. My first dinner back to the states was everything I hoped for and wanted!

We ate at The Butcher Station for the first time last night. My inlaws had mentioned an ad they'd seen in the local paper and so we brought them along with us. The food prices seemed reasonable until we asked about the market price of their steaks (our whole reason for going there). We were surprised at the "Ruth Chris" prices but excited to see if it lived up to it. My husband has had steak all over the world, thanks to his job. His steak was ok but not as good as $38 warranted, not to mention overcooked. If you enjoy potatoes, this is the place for you. Of the four side options, three were versions of potatoes. If that didn't float your boat, there was always asparagus. And no, salad can not be substituted. Have to pay for that seperate. The biggest drawback, which suprisingly no one has mentioned, is that it is totally UN kId-friendly. Despite having a "kid menu" there was nothing on it the kids would eat. On what planet do kids eat scallops, shrimp or steak?! The kids menu's claim to fame was it was the same as the adult menu but smaller portions. How is that a good thing if the kids won't eat anything on it?! The sides on the kids menu are, brace yourself, mashed potatoes, ASPARAGUS or french fries. Any guess what ours chose? Then the ketchup was bitter. How do you mess up ketchup?! Our kids' entire meals consisted of french fries (minus ketchup). Drink options for kids were soda, iced tea or lemonade. I don't know. How about milk or juice?! Our girls were excited to have lemonade only to be unable to drink it because it was extremely bitter. Despite the meals taking forever to come to the table, our girls were well behaved. 5 stars for them! This place is better than Outback (except for kids) but no where near the caliber of a Ruth Chris or Smith & Wollensky. And yes, for $38 I expect it to be. Our advice- drive into the city for great steaks and leave the home cookin to WInchester.

Not really a reviewin' kinda gal - but we stopped off here on a road trip & the food was fantastic.
(5)Shawn M.
Went for an early dinner with my wife. Had roast beef and she had shepards pie. Both were good. Had raspberry peach cobbler for dessert and it was fantastic. We will go again.
(4)Kevin W.
Dined there a week ago. Service was outstanding. The food was quite good. Everything I ordered was fresh and delicious. I will definitely return the next time I am in the area.
(5)Jeeson P.
Tried The Butcher Station because of all the great reviews. I got scallop ceviche for an appetizer and seared scallops with sauteed button mushrooms and potatoes gratin. My boyfriend ordered roast beef with the same sides. The scallops were delicious and not overcooked, but I would have liked more of a sear. The scallop ceviche was really good (but my bf didn't like it as much as I did). The roast beef was really fresh and grass fed beef, which was a plus, but it was a bit bland and the gravy was not flavorful. According to my bf some salt helped a lot. Both of the sides were really good but my favorite was the potatoes gratin. Overall, it was a good experience and I enjoyed the food. My boyfriend ended up liking my scallops a lot better than what he got, so I don't think we'll ever get the roast beef again. This was the best that food that I've had in Winchester in this price range. However, I've had better in the city. But, that being said I'll definitely be back because it's hard to find good restaurants here, especially seafood.

Great find, with an awesome fresh menu full of local Organics. great people. Check it out for yourself and you will be returning for sure.
(5)Heather W.
Amazing roast beef sandwich. Fresh hand cut fries and delightful cucumber salad. The smoked blackberry sauce on the wonderful local creamery ice cream was delightfully sinful. Comfortable casual surroundings.
(5)Kristin L.
The reviews made us think this place was going to be great. The pictures looked yummy so we tried it. The bread and oil were a nice touch and the service was swift. The beer recomendation was on point and yes they give you real coca-cola! Extra points. Had a bacon swiss melt and paella. Let be clear you do get what you pay for in portion size but that being said the food was mediocre. I really want to say better but I think in this case it is what it is. Great atmosphere, cozy inside, outdoor seeting and even a small bar if you want to catch some kitchen action. Curb side style/rustic bistro potential Notes: Refine your kitchen skills.

Excellent atmosphere, food even better. There's something so good about knowing where your food came from (they write on the chalk board in the dining room where the days menu items came from -LOCAL farms). The staff is professional and friendly. I also love being able to pop in just to buy local fresh milk (in beautiful returnable glass jars) and meats. I have loved everything I've had here (and so has my picky husband). A true hidden GEM in Winchester.

On Good Friday, my boyfriend (Adam) and I decided to try something new in Winchester, and we landed here for a late lunch. This was my first farm-to-table experience, and I am pleased with the results. Atmosphere: It is clear while you are there, that you are in a farm-to-table restaurant. The sources for their meats, dairy, etc are listed on a blackboard on the wall. They have grocery items for sale from local places, including a large display cooler with a giant pan of their house-made italian sausage (part of the day's special). In terms of decor there were a few nice touches and finishes to show they had tried. Overall the place seemed unfinished, but it was clear that this was not a focal point for them. Food: This was their focus. And they did a great job. Good-sized selection of beer and wine. A few taps, bottles, and wine by the glass for most options. I had a glass of pinot grigio. It was ice cold and tasty, just what I wanted. The price seemed pretty standard to me. For the beer, I would have liked to have seen more diversity. It was almost entirely IPA. Maybe it is a seasonal thing, still there should have been some more diversity given the variety available locally. Non-alcoholic beverage options weren't scarce either. Adam's soda was in a little 8 oz glass coke bottle. Thanks to another reviewer, we had their buffalo wings with house made blue cheese sauce as an appetizer. The wings were juicy with crispy skin and were in a sauce that was big on flavor, not just heat. We liked the blue cheese dip so much that we kept it for our main dish to dip our fries in. Adam had their Cowboy Burger - It had BBQ sauce and pulled pork on top and was cooked medium rare. SUPER juicy and messy, but big on flavor; the combination worked well. He was happy with its preparation but said he would probably order it medium next time to contain the juiciness a bit. I had their Beef and Arugula Sandwich. Beef was cooked medium, tender, and sliced thin enough to cut through with teeth. It had great flavor. The horseradish mayo played well with the arugula, the muenster cheese and onion played supporting roles, not standing out much, but important for the overall success. The bread was not toasted, a choice I probably would not have made if I were building the sandwich at home, but I ended up being pleased with it. It let the fresh bread stand out and made it easier to manage the sandwich to limit the messiness. Their sides were given equal attention to the mains (love to see that). The hand-cut fries are reminiscent of Five Guys fries, though not in such crazy quantities. I bet they would be good with malt vinegar, but they were great dipped in blue cheese dressing :) Steamed sugar snap peas were SO fresh, crispy and delicious. I didn't remember to try my sandwich until I had eaten half of them. Adam had their Orzo Salad; it tasted like an Italian pasta salad, but with more moderation on the vinegar/seasoning. We also had to get dessert, because they had housemade lemon pound cake with sliced strawberries and vanilla ice cream. It was excellent - not too sweet, kind of dense compared to a typical pound cake, but the lemon got to steal the show, and Trickling Springs makes great ice cream to support it. The strawberries could have been better. I like them freshly sliced rather than pre-sliced then macerated, but maybe that is just me. Coffee was AWESOME!!! French press, Happy Creek Ethiopian - the nuttiness stood out; there was very little bitterness and it had a nice clean finish. I got cream with it, but forgot to use it for the first half of the press. Then I decided I had to appreciate the local cream too and added it. Yes, it made it even better. Here is the overlaying theme to their food - a focus on the ingredients. It means they pay attention to where the food comes from, and then they let it shine. NO oversalting! This is a HUGE win in my book. The dessert wasn't overly sweet either. Then they pair the ingredients together in great ways. Kudos to you guys. Keep up the good work.

Went Saturday based on Yelp reviews. Our first choice in Old Town was closed, so we ventured here. We didn't have a reservation, but luckily there was a table for us. You know you're in for a treat when the owner of the restaurant (Sandy) is taking care of your table. This restaurant embodies the idea of farm to table. Everything is local (nothing further than PA) and it sure tastes that way. The local cheeses were fantastic (especially the goat cheese!), and the food was prepared simply, but deliciously. You also know a restaurant is worth their weight when they bring you coffee in French presses instead of from a drip pot. Dinner for two with a bottle of wine, a four cheese plate and two entrees retailed for around $100. You may find this slightly expensive, but you're paying for an experience... And Sandy made this an experience for us. Highly recommended. Ask for Sandy.

My family and I were traveling home to Long Island from a vacation in Asheville, North Carolina and stopped overnight in Winchester. After searching for a farm to table restaurant on yelp we found The Butcher Station. As soon as we walked in we were treated as if we were family! Sandy the owner was so informative and passionately describing where they source each ingredient for the wonderful dishes on their menu! We thoroughly enjoyed each dish! The wine was from the Napa Valley and was a perfect addition to our meal! The juicy grass fed burger, the comforting chicken pot pie, the amazing grass fed steak were all delicious! The crab cakes were FULL of crab and not weighed down with lots of breadcrumbs! The sides were delicious on their own, and the house baked bread was heavenly! We wish this gem wasn't a 6 hour drive from Long Island otherwise we would make it there routinely for weekly visits! Thank you for making the last night of our trip a fabulous one!!

Great food, great concept (farm to table) not so great price! The food was above average and if you have never had grass raised, local beef then this is where you need to go to try it. The waitress was great and very helpful with our gluten free diet and kept on top of our drinks. The atmosphere was nice, other than a slightly tipsy table nearby (can't be helped). The Bacon Swiss melt was a 10 out of 10. Great flavor, cooked to our order and worth the price. The steak was a little pricier which is the only reason we don't give this a 5 star rating! Stop in and get some great food!

I really like the concept of this restaurant being farm to table. The restaurant has more like a little country diner feel. But the prices are NOT country diner prices. We had the T-bone steak it was $38 before tax. (They don't put the price on the menu.) The steak came with two sides--french fries and squash. don't get me wrong , there was nothing really bad about it but I could have grilled myself a better steak at home for less than half that price. The steak had good flavor but was very tough and hard to cut. If it had been aged or rested at all I would be surprised.

We were passing through town and thought we'd try this place. We didnt want the typical stuff at cracker barrel or another roadside eatery. We were tired and had a long drive and waiting 30mins or more for mediocre food was just not something we wanted to do. It was a small place. We sat outside and enjoyed the quiet. I had a filet and it was very good! Highly recommend!

This was a Yelpster find and as with every other restaurant I find through Yelp, The Butcher Station was nothing to look at on the inside BUT THE FOOD WAS UNBELIEVABLE!!!!!! Having just had a great meal at a nearby restaurant at Hillbrook Inn I was trying to find a nice place to eat that offered the best in cuisine. I found it and it beats anything found in downtown Winchester where the old money chooses to eat....too bad for them and great for the rest of us because if they ever find out about this place you could never get reservations. As I said the atmosphere is more like a deli and it is very small so you may want to call ahead for reservations. We came on Wed night ready for good eats. My wife ordered the nightly steak special, a ribeye 12 oz, and the potatoes gratin with carrots. This steak was prepared to perfection - medium and not a bit more. It was tender and not over spiced. I got to have a little bit and it was as good as I make at home on my IR grill. The potatoes were creamy and the carrots were braised with hickory syrup. WOW. What a great combination. Nothing to complain about except that she got too full too fast. I had the sea scallops. My favorite seafood when prepared correctly, and these definitely were. They were fresh, flavorful, braised to perfection and served with lemon wedge. Fork tender, tasty, and 6 large scallops. I had the salad as well with an Italian vinaigrette that was light and flavorful. I also had the carrots and they were wonderful. The wait staff was pleasant but as there were only 6 or 7 tables she was busy but not too busy to check back every so often. We came in at 7:30 pm and were done by 8:45 pm and everyone else was gone. We had the chance to chat with the chef and he was very informative as to his training and thought about how to prepare food for the best flavor. It was pleasant and refreshing to find such a hole in the wall place that serves such good food. I read most of the reviews and thought some of them were pretentious as they were dissatisfied with service or the ambience, when you go to a restaurant for the food. Trust me if you have read my reviews I don't hold back when I don't get good service or the food is just so-so. Thanks for some of the best food in VA.

This place has stellar reviews and now I know why. I am so happy to see a farm-to-table restaurant succeeding in making delicious and fresh food. We had the shrimp, crab legs, soup of the day and steak fries appetizers and chicken pot pies for dinner. The shrimp were very fresh and perfectly cooked. The crab legs were scrumptious (but it's hard to mess those up). Steak fries were legit! The soup was a broth based shrimp and vegetable and it lacked salt. Actually I found a lot of the food lacked salt, but I think that's a personal preference so that's why I'm still giving five stars. The pot pies were flakey and delicious, heavy on the rosemary so if you don't like rosemary I wouldn't suggest it. I also tried their local cider, very tasty. Over all a solid, fresh, fantastic meal. It is definitely a small restaurant so it might be beneficial to make a reservation on a weekend.
(5)Janet W.
The beef for the hamburger was excellent. The bun was too heavy. French fries were very tasty. Place is quite small but nice for lunch. Cheese board selevtiond are fantastic.

For starters, I did not eat here so this review does not reflect the quality of the food I was in the area in business and found the place on yelp. Reviews and menu looked good. Little difficult to find as it is tucked into the rear section of a shopping plaza. Traveling alone I usually look to sit at the bar. As i walked in there was another couple waiting and I noticed a laptop and paperwork on the small bar (around 7:30pm on a Wednesday). I used the restroom (a single one for the whole place). I came out, observed the unoccupied bar still acting as a desk and no one there to greet me. I just got a bad vibe and left. Maybe, if i am in the area again will try again as my experience seems to differ from others.

Love the concept of farm to fork and I like the opportunity to support local businesses. The menu appears to be limited to what's available so expect something different each time. That's part of the charm. A chalk board shows where the food is sourced from. I had sirloin with fries and kale. I asked for medium rare and the steak was cooked to perfection. This is not dinner at Friday's our Applebee's. This is closer to dinner at home.

How do you rate a restaurant with good service, excellent food, an OK setting, and high prices? I really struggled before deciding on 3-Stars. Our visit was pleasant, though with an awkward start. When we arrived there was no one inside except the staff, yet we were greeted with, "Good evening. Do you have reservations?" Reservations? In an empty restaurant? Granted, the table seating is limited, but this made me wonder why they asked. Over time several others did arrive, but it was never full. Additionally, I don't think they expected anything approaching a "crowd" as they had only one trained waitress and one waitress in training available. Like I said, 'awkward'. The staff, though, was exceptionally helpful and informative. They explained the concept of the restaurant, the local farms they use (including employee gardens), and the specials. They even let us know of which specials were "probably the last of the season." Choosing was uncomplicated due to the limited menu, which offers lots of fresh and delicious descriptions. The meal arrival pace was exceptional. Our appetizer arrived quickly, as did our beverages. They followed up with bread, oil, and spices. Then the main course arrived a few relaxing minutes later. This was really appreciated as many of the large chain restaurants seem to push all of your food out as quickly as possible. The relaxed pace was a very nice touch. Refills were offered at no charge (a real surprise since they serve soda in a table-delivered bottle), and the staff was attentive without being intrusive. The only real downsides are: Butcher Station is not family friendly, and the cost is very high. I say it's not family friendly because I think a family would struggle here due to the small tables, limited menu, and (especially) the prices. Although I did not ask if they had a children's menu, I did wonder what they might offer. Even if such a menu exists, the cost would make Butcher Block prohibitively expensive. We had only two people and our meal, tax, and tip came to over $92. We enjoyed the Butcher Block, but could not afford to go back for anything but a truly special occassion.

Excellent food using all local ingredients! The crab cake was very fresh and the remoulade was a perfect complement. The cucumber salad was great. The Station Club wrap was my husband's choice and he said it was very good as well. Chicken, arugula, cheese, bacon, and mayo.

Rolled in here @ 4pm on a Wednesday. First customers in the door. Service was polite and well informed. I had a sirloin. It was tender and seasoned/cooked to perfection. Nicely done. Sides were spot-on as well. Highly recommended. It always strikes me as a sad testament to 'Muricah2014 that this place is half-empty while TGI-McSaturdays and Crapplebeez have full lots. You can't get a steak like this from a chain (NO meatglue in here folks!). But I digress ... If you're reading reviews on Yelp, you're probably the type of person who will try this joint, so go try it ... you'll be pleased.

Service was a little slow and there weren't too many people there. 21 mins to get a drink on the table and 29 mins from walking in to ordering. My friend and I believe the waitress was just having a bad day. Maybe there's was an issue with the register. ..we weren't sure. We did catch her crying...so we were more patient than normal. The other lady who took over was fine. The food was pretty good. We had the beef and arugula sandwich and the chicken and arugula sandwich. Very tasty. Fries were good. The veggies of the day...looked like kale or collards...we're pretty bad (smelled burnt...extremely bitter tasting) but other than that we were happy with our meal. We would Def try again. Lunch/dinner menu. Looks like things all products are local which is nice. Was a little confused by the little kids sitting in the bar area which also distracted our first waitress. She was frazzled the whole time. 4 stars if the 1st waitress wasn't having a bad day cause it was suuuper slow. When we walked out...the staff looked like they were having a meeting about dinner...Noone bothered looking our direction when we walked out and lunch took 90 mins....suuuper slow.
(3)Andrea H.
Three stars mostly because while tasty, the food just didn't justify the price. Our server was extremely friendly and helpful, and the atmosphere was comfortable and enjoyable. I had a chicken pot pie, salad with house vinaigrette, a pilsner, and for dessert, raspberry cobbler with a lemon/basil ice cream. The beer was fine, the chicken pot pie was good (although a little soggy on the puff pastry), the salad was generic, the raspberry cobbler was light on raspberries, heavy on cobbler - the ice cream was distinctive and very tasty. What just really wasn't fine was the $35 price tag, before tip. I'm not at all unwilling to pay for great food, this just wasn't THAT great.

After an excellent meal our waitress actually drove us to the movie theater after our cab was too late. #thingsthatactuallyhappened

Great vibe, great Golf (peel and eat) Shrimp and grilled cheese with prosciutto, highly recommended.
(5)Amanda H.
A little to expensive to eat more often. But it is great food and service when you have the money.
(4)Myles H.
The service was less than attentive. We waited entirely too long to be asked for and then served our drinks. The wait time on the food was also very high. It wasn't even busy when we went. The feel of the restaurant wasn't very inviting. The lighting was low and everything looked dingy. The menus made me want to run out the door they were printed on computer paper and stuffed in gross looking plastic sleeves. Which would be ok for a burger joint but the prices didn't match the decorum. Despite these issues we ordered our food (then waited quite awhile) and were very pleasantly surprised when it arrived. The first to arrive was the steak and cheese fries and the hot wings. The fries were absolutely covered in delicious cheese and there was a very healthy amount of steak on there. The wings were plump, juicy, and absolutely delicious. Next was the ribeye and the kale greens. Both were absolutely to die for! The steak was was the best quality meat I've ever eaten before! I wasn't sure if the "local" ingredients would make much of a difference but it is more than noticeable and the kale was perfect. At this point I was stuffed but the promise of a hand made dessert was too much to pass up. I chose the chocolate cake with chocolate butter cream icing. The chocolate flavour was almost explosive at first but it finishes off very nicely almost savory. All said and done I will definitely be back but it's not a place I can take anyone who isn't a close friend because I'll need to prep them for a less than stellar wait for more than stellar food.
(4)Rebecca G.
Nothing noteworthy to say about this one. Creativity minimal, presentation awful, food quality not worth mentioning. Nothing brought to our table said there is 'love in the kitchen'.

11/16/14 Update, 3-star: I still have not been back, but because of a very nice email from Jimmy the owner apologizing for this experience and sharing that he was unaware of this particular server's behavior--he has also resolved the situation (ahem). Many thanks Jimmy for your kind note, I will visit with my family soon. 8/24/14 Original review, 1-star: Can't comment on the food--walked out after waiting 10 minutes for an elitist waiter with a bit of a foreign accent that rolled his eyes and huffed aloud when my large party said we wanted water to drink (to start).
(3)Mickey C.
Wife had 4 oz filet which was cooked the way she wanted it. Price was the most expensive we have experienced, and after traveling around the world over the past 5 years, is saying something. I had the T Bone that I would qualify as a "cowboy steak" which was a cheap cut but priced as if it was an expensive cut. Sides were of diet portions with no butter or sour cream provided. Wife is a formally trained wine person who had the house Pinot which she said "she would never order again". It was a 3-4 oz pour for the price of the bottle. Rather than immediately changing it out, the waitress stayed mute. The short story is that the meal was high priced a hair below a hundred $ with over 10% in state and local tax and not of sufficient value to return. A trip to any Texas Roadhouse is a step up.
(2)Eliza B.
Amazing food! Loved the cheese plate, hummus and toasted garlic with homemade bread, steaks, shrimp scampi and fries. Ambience was relaxed and comfortable. Lemonade was good too, as well as house vinaigrette for salad. Definitely recommend this place!
(5)Marilyn M.
Enjoyed my dish tremendously. Local products, farm raised. The catfish tasted fresh and loved the sauce.
(4)Brandon L.
Om Nom Nom! My first trip here was fantastic! All local, fresh ingredients from farms listed on their chalkboard wall. Had the sautéed olive appetizer. Lightly sautéed with a touch of spice and 4 nice slices of toasted bread - with an olive oil dipping on the plate. Delicious! This week the meat was: Fillet! Looked to be a 6-8oz Fillet that is cooked to perfection (they called it "Happy Medium") along with garlic mashed potatoes and a carrot/caramel onion side. Paired this with a Sunset Ale and devoured it. If you like fresh, delicious steak - eat here.

We arrived early on a Saturday evening to find the place almost empty due to an event in downtown Winchester. The happy hour wing special convinced us to stay and try 6 of them and to split the bacon mushroom cheeseburger. The wings were bathed in their own house sauce (which they sell) and were a nice change from the usual deep fried variety. They brought bread, grilled garlic, and olives to the table. We liked the bread and garlic but not fans of olives anyway. We had the burger with sides of fries and carrots. Everything had a very distinctive taste though my partner said the burger tasted too fresh for her. The carrots were cooked with some herbs and coated in a bit of maple syrup, just enough to add a touch of sweetness. The burger came without a bun but I'm not sure why and did not ask as we were okay with it that way but I did expect it on a bun. The waiter said that normally on a Friday or Saturday night you would need reservations past 1900. I look forward to trying one of their steaks on a future visit to the area.
(4)Charles B.
Stopped in for lunch. The food was excellent and the service outstanding. This is a farm to table restaurant so you pay a bit more but the food is worth it! I will be back
(5)B C.
I got Alaskan crab legs, mashed potatos and grilled asparagus. Crab legs were rather dry and stringy, either overcooked or cooked from frozen. Sides were delicious, service was good. Prices about $20-$30 for most things.
(3)Jennifer H.
So delish!! Everything is farm to table. They didn't have the scallops in, which was a bummer but you can tell they are committed to quality. Everyone liked their dish which with a large group is not usual. Everything from the bread and the service was great!!!! Good beer selection, great food, awesome concept. If I'm ever in Winchester va again ill be back!
(5)Chris D.
Walked in on a Tuesday night on a friends recommendation. The space is small, they don't win many points for decor, and the restroom needs to be classed up. The food however is phenomenal and I enjoyed the personal touch everyone working. It's a must go to in Winchester for great food!

While I consider myself a regular at The Butcher Station, I want to tell you about their other side, the grocery goodies. My wife & I have been coming in since Jimmy & Sandy have owned it, & I look forward to picking up my weekly stash of rations for my kitchen. Jimmy cuts all local, sustainable beef, pork, chicken, turkey & seafood, so I can mix & match according to my needs of the week. I'm treated like family, catching up with everyone, and if Megan, John, or Sandy have a moment they come out to sit with us & catch up on "things". I have always the best quality in my groceries, whether it be the milk, yogurt, cheese, eggs, or beef, always yummy & fresh! Let me tell y'all, this is the place to eat in Winchester, Va, not to mention, where to get your very reasonably priced food staples for your own culinary madness at home!! While you're waiting on your food order, get a glass of Jimmy's homemade Sangria - a killer bang for the buck!!!
(5)Marc P.
What a special place! We were so lucky to find this gem while traveling through. Everything on the menu was extremely fresh and local. They bring in a fresh side of beef daily and cut it right on site. The quality of the meat was beyond my expectations and it was cooked to perfection, medium rare. This brother and sister team could not have been more accommodating and sweet. We will be coming back for more on our next road trip for sure
(5)Andrew M.
I was highly impressed with the quality of my meal. All of the meat and vegetables come from local farms and the quality and taste is outstanding. Their menu changes due to what is available so there is always something new to try. If you're into craft beer they have an awesome selection to choose from. I would definitely recommend that anyone in the Winchester area take the time and check it out. The Butcher Station will not disappoint. Outstanding atmosphere and excellent service. I definitely will be returning for a visit in the near future.
(5)Josh D.
It's kinda fance (ex. low lighting) and close towards a 3 dollar sign; but real good food, music and it's all locally obtained foods. Yum. Yum.
(4)Claude P.
Tucked away on the outskirts of Winchester, this gem was a rare treat. The staff was knowledgable, friendly, and prompt. Specializing in serving a farm to table fare from the local area the Station served up delicious meals for our group of six without missing a beat! The top sirloin was tender and absolutely delicious served with sides of mashed sour cream and onion potatoes and kale. The craft beer selection on draft satisfied everyone's tastes. I recommend making reservations as there is limited seating.
(4)Michelle F.
We stumbled upon this gem quite randomly while in town for lunch and were so glad we did. The staff was friendly and fun, the food was fresh and yummy. Burgers, chicken wrap and roast beef sandwich were all wonderful. The table next to us had shrimp that looked so good, I know what I am ordering next time. You can tell they go the extra mile to get things fresh and dress it all just right. My husband was impressed with some of the more obscure, and very delicious, beers on tap. Even the fries my son got stood out.
(5)Mike B.
I have eaten here a lot since I've been in Winchester Va. The butcher station is a farm to plate restaurant, the menu changes time to time. Lunch and dinner entrees are different too. The bill can get kinda pricey but you can't beat how fresh everything taste. Any time I'm back in Winchester Va I'll be stopping in to have a fresh lunch or dinner!!!

This is one of the best restaurants I have ever been to! Me and my buddies finished a Tough Mudder in West Virginia and were looking for a sit down joint with meat! The power of Yelp! directed us to this place and the pics of oysters from other reviewers didn't hurt either. The place is in a shopping plaza towards the back. It's small but really nice and the menu boasted that all of the ingredients were from the are and items are made in house. This looked to be GOOD! What we ate! Station Wings! They were great not super dressed and not overly friend perfect and juicy! Fresh Oysters! We got there during Happy hour so had a dozen, they were fresh and the yuzu that accompanied it was dope. Fresh horseradish was the perfect touch! Steak and Cheese Fries (yea we got crazy!) was damn good. The potatoes were fresh and cut there you can tell. The steak on it was perfectly cooked and seasoned and the melted cheese and peppers was an awesome touch. We could have eaten baskets of the stuff. At this point you're probably thinking these jabronies are done...no after going through hell we were going to chow down! Again we came her for the meat! Two sirloin steaks were ordered (medium rare) and a porterhouse (damn!). They were tender and perfectly seasoned, thinking about it makes me want to drive through the traffic just to experience this again, it was that good. The potato gratin side is damn good, cheesy and perfect the potato was cooked correctly an NOM NOM NOM. the mushrooms as well were surprisingly super great! if it's available when you go...GET 'EM! Dessert, hells yeas we did this. There was a chocolate cream mousse that was AMAZING. We ordered a berry compote crumble with ice cream, NOM NOM NOM again, and a flourless chocolate cake that was dense and not super sweet it was really nice. Jay was our server and he was super great! Attentive informative and funny! He made our experience even more enjoyable after a days work of self-imposed torture. They sell steak and other items there as well and they looked good. I kind of wished I lived in that town to be a regular. I will make a yearly journey to here as my victory meal after Tough Mudder. Happy Hour is the best, they boast the only raw bar in the area and they do it right!
(5)Gary O.
The place is a bit hard to find, but once you get here you will be happy I started with the oyster sampler platter, I don't have any east coast comparison, but to the west coast oysters I eat a lot they were way better NY steak I ate was cooked per my order, and quite delicious, grass fed beef with a corn finish was delicious My only wish is they had some wine to enjoy with my steak
(5)Todd P.
Don't let their web page or Yelp listing fool you...this is primarily a restaurant and the "market" is laughable. I was looking for some cheese and doing a search for "Cheese Shops" brought up The Butcher Station. When I walked in, it really felt like a restaurant more than anything as I didn't see a shop or counter. When I asked, they pointed me to a fridge and a display case that had hardly any product in it and no lighting to see what was in it. They explained that when they took over the place, they scaled back the market but that was an understatement. They really should get rid of it all together and just focus on the restaurant rather than having an understocked and underwhelming offering from their "market'.
(2)Colby P.
Awesome steak cuts and ownership! Best steaks and natural foods in winchester! Can't beat it
(5)Rob S.
Very good restaurant from the food to the service. The chicken wing appetizer was excellent as well as the bunless burger with cheese, bacon and mushrooms. My wife had the monkfish which was very good. The price was higher than 2 $$; It was $$$. Nice atmosphere.
(5)Elisha R.
This was a wonderful dinning experience... Food was outstanding, great flavor with excellent customer service... Highly recommend this Restaurant for someone that really enjoy good food Good Job Jimmy
(5)Robin B.
The burgers our group ordered were excellent and cooked to order. My greens and cheese crepe was excellent and the greens looked fabulous. However, the chlldren's menu is overly steep. Three chicken nugget sized overly breaded fish "sticks" for $11 is a little absurd. My husband's oyster platter had few oysters and many french fries. Service very inattentive.

My wife and I visited this restaurant during our weekend trip to Winchester. The city doesn't have a lot of amazing restaurants, so we weren't expecting miracles here. But man oh man, we were in for an extremely pleasant surprise! My favorite part of their menu is the fact that you can order a "steak." What kind of steak? You have no idea before you get there. I'll explain: every week, the restaurant orders half a cow for storage in the back of the restaurant. And throughout the week, they serve a different type of steak each day, until they run out of that cut. When we came in, it happened to be New York Strip. And good lord, this was easily the best New York Strip I have ever had. Everything we ate there was great, and the service was awesome. You can see into the kitchen from the seats at the bar, and it was clear from the cooks joking around with each other that they were having a great time as well. All in all, this was a fantastic stop on our weekend trip, and I would love to go back there again.
(5)David B.
Short version: it was good enough, but didn't make the permanent "I'd totally want to go here again" list. Prices are quite high for what we got, and the "support local" aspect of it doesn't really make up for the differential in cost. We visited at around 6 pm on a not-very-busy Saturday evening. The place is tucked away in the back of the most upscale shopping plaza in Winchester. If you don't know it's there, it will be hard to find, and signage is hard to see from the parking lot. It has indoor and outdoor seating (about 10 tables inside, 3 outside) - the outside tables are probably how you'll find it; the sign doesn't really stand out at all. We ordered water and diet coke for drinks, and they went through the spiel about "only local foods, farm-to-table". The menu isn't large; appetizers on one side, entrees on the other side of one page, and a separate wine/beer list on another page. The regular menu has steaks and fish, mostly. There were three specials (short ribs, fish, and a something else I don't remember) at around $20/a go. None of the specials sounded all that interesting, so She Who Must Be Obeyed (SWMBO) ordered a arugula and Brie salad, and I ordered roast beef with house gravy, potato gratin and carrots. So far, so good. Here's where things started to go wonky. They brought out the bread plate, with the olive tapenade and steamed garlic (not roasted, steamed). Two baguette sized slices, cut in half. The tapenade was good - on the salty side, but very good olives and spices. The garlic - not so much. Very strange texture; a bit gritty, and the steaming caused a kind of sour grassy taste - I guess I'm used to the less pungent taste of roasted garlic. It was kind of a 'squeaky' taste - ok, but you kinda had it linger a bit too long, and it didn't really go away with water. They ran out of carrots, so they asked for an alternative. Now, running out happens, but if you only have 4 side choices and it isn't busy, and it's only 6:30, seems a bit odd. Carrots aren't exactly rare items. Choices were sautéed mushrooms or - kale. I'm not a fan of the texture of sauteed mushrooms, and Kale may be trendy, but as far as I'm concerned, no matter what you do to it it tastes like aluminum so I asked for a salad, house vinaigrette. Main dishes arrived - and 'plain' is probably the best description. The arugula salad and cheese were competently done, but very bland. Good quality Brie, but no texture: just leaves and a lump of Brie. Some pine nuts or walnuts or something would of rescued it. Dressing was very dull. The roast beef was good, but the 'gravy' was a lot closer to au jus than anything I'd call gravy. Very thin, and practically tasteless. The potato gratin was a extremely small portion - about a 1x1 inch square - and completely tasteless. The salad (replacing the carrots) was less than a half a cup of mixed greens. Dressing was again, almost tasteless - very weak vinegar if any at all. Took a lot of pepper to salvage either side. The only saving grace was the quantity of beef - good cup to cup and a half of roast. SWMBO's comment was "this is ok, but the French dip sandwich at Perkins has more taste to it". For the price, I'd have expected it to be a lot more flavorful. We passed on dessert. Some of the options sounded good ( raspberry peach cobbler ) but observing the portions served other tables didn't really spark a lot of desire - for $7, the portions were quite small. Service was OK, if a bit sluggish at times. One of the waiters was really carrying the room in terms of being proactive about drinks, etc; the other two really weren't keeping track, and their attention span dropped markedly when we ordered only soft drinks. I made sure the one fellow who actually worked got the tip - he did the job. Overall, it was a fairly high price for a strictly average meal. Prices are not commensurate with what was delivered - $12 for the arugula salad and $18 for the roast beef is pretty hard to justify, even if it is all locally-produced. The same $40 at IJ Canns (across the parking lot) would have produced a vastly more interesting and varied meal. So, overall, it fell into the "if someone wanted to go here specifically, I probably wouldn't object, but it's not a place I'd suggest" bucket. I'd definitely bring some chili sauce or some kind of flavor enhancers of my own on the next trip.

Fantastic. In the area for business and I was afraid that all of our meals would be terrible to mediocre. The butcher station saved the trip. Excellent small place with a ever changing menu. The intimate farm to market concept is done well. The steak was cooked to perfection and the two sides were great. Highly recommend.

Driving through Winchester, I had a hankering for a good steak, so Yelp brought me here. Its a smallish operation at the corner of a new shopping center. I paid $35 for the strip steak special. When you charge $35 for a strip, it should be worth it. It was. Side of potatoes au gratin was really good. I had a strawberry cobbler for desert which was also very good. Only criticism is the mixed green salad. It was fresh, delicious -- and dainty. I think that if you are serving steaks, people expect and desire a more substantial salad. But an overall pleasant experience.

I cook. I'm hard to please with restaurant food. This is beyond compare. Bravo. Thank you for a fabulous meal.

My husband and I walked out of another steak house in Winchester because of poor service/not being waited on after being seated earlier this same evening. We wanted to eat out locally for a celebration dinner, and we were in the mood for steak. Knowing this restaurant served fresh, farm - to table local products, I suggested we try here. When I walked in, I asked if they had steak available, and it was part of their special that night. . . 30 day dry aged 14-16 oz ribeye steak. That is what both my husband and I ordered, and even though I rarely order steak out (and I prefer my husband to smoke and grill ours over charcoal), this was hands down, the best "local" steak I've ever ordered out. We also ordered their raw oysters as an appetizer (which I had there before several months earlier when I met up with a friend for happy hour), and they were fabulous!!!! The waitress was attentive, and suggested the appropriate bottle of red wine that we were debating between to go with our meal. We enjoyed the atmosphere, quality of food, attention to details, and wonderful service.

Super fresh, local, and delicious! A bit pricey, but if you're looking for great dishes with local ingredients this is it. Sautéed calamari was interesting and perfectly done. Also a great market to pick up sustainably raised seafood and beef.

We picked The Butcher Station based on Yelp recommendation. What a nice surprise.. Well hidden behind the shopping place, TBS reminds me about some European restaurants - where you go because you trust the chef, because you like the staff. This is a small place - but it means that you will have time to discuss food and drinks with staff; that chef will send you a small sample of what he thinks is a unique taste, or what would complement your dish. nice selection of local brews. All in all - very good service, friendly but not over the top; food presentation was superb, and taste to match. We certainly will be back. We need more botique places like TBS - with great service and a taste to match. It is not a place competing on size of dishes - thanks for that. Quality, not the quantity is greatly aprecciated. Big thumbs up.
