Our son Jeff treated us to a magical night last night. We come from NH and We were joined by his girlfriend Rebecca and friend Dan. We sat at the bar and were served by Meghan / have to say she was the best person we have ever met and took care of us throughout the night. Her smile lit up the room. She had 100% customer service and opus is lucky to have her. I had the 6 oz. filet which was more than enough with the peppercorn sauce and the au gratin potatoes so delicious. My husband Mike had the ny sirloin strip we both agree we were served the best steaks ever. Thank you

If you want a good steak then come here. The steak and service will always be consistently good, if not a little stiff. No surprises here, which doesn't always make for an exciting dinner. But at least you'll have leave satisfied if you know what you want. I'd suggest trying the lunch or happy hour and signing up for their newsletter because they always have coupons for buy one get one.

I booked a dinner reservation for my parent's 40th anniversary on Sunday, 8/9/15 while they are vacationing in Williamsburg. None of us had ever been to Opus 9 but my sister and I sought out the reviews on here as well as other rating websites and felt confident that Opus 9 would be a great place for our parents. I called on Saturday to book the reservation and explain that I would be paying for their dinner on my card which I gave to the server who answered the phone. She assured me that everything would be great. I called back on Sunday (the day of the reservations) a few hours ahead of time to confirm that the staff knew I was paying, that they had my correct information and for the waiter/ waitress to tell my parents that their daughters paid their bill as my parents went to dinner under the guise that their timeshare (Wyndham) had booked the reservation. When I didn't see a charge pop up on my credit card by this morning I called Opus 9 and spoke with Simone, a manager, who promised to look into the situation and call me back. Within the hour Jessica called me back and was very apologetic that they mistakenly charged my parents for the meal and did not use my card. She was so apologetic and sincere and was set on making everything right. She took the charge of my parents' card and put it on my card and even offered to call my parents to explain the mix up. My parents called me after they spoke with her and had nothing but amazing things to say about their dining experience and specifically about the nice call they received about the mix up. They raved about all of the food, especially the caprese salad, the Oscar 9 signature steak and Beethoven's favorite for dessert. My parents are definitely going to return to Opus 9 the next time they are in Wburg and I cna't wait to join them. Everyone makes mistakes but it is the way in which the problem is corrected which really counts and for that I give Opus 9 five stars!

We had dinner here for our 31st Anniversary and it was a great experience. The food was excellent, the ambiance was cozy and our server Luis, was knowledgeable and very pleasant. We will definitely go back because the food was great. However, we were disappointed that the hostess lead us thru the main dining room, that had only two couple, and into the rear dining room which was completely empty, and sat us at the very last table in the corner. Aside from the seating, we had a great dinner.

Went there on a couples getaway weekend with 3 other couples! we all agreed that the service and food was impeccable!!! the restaurant is romantic, the ambiance is low lighting and beautiful. Our waitress and table server were awesome. We had a great time ! Will visit again, when were in Williamsburg!

We frequent steak restaurants.... this place was beyond our past experiences. We went here for our anniversary..... It's a must try! The atmosphere was quiet and beautiful! Our waiter was very knowledgeable about the menu and best choices. Very impressed. We both had filets.... Cooked Perfectly!! Only wish there was one closer to home.

My family came to Opus 9 to celebrate my college graduation, and we couldn't have been more thrilled with the ambiance, food, and service we received. The restaurant's atmosphere is warm and relaxing. There are several private dining rooms that break up the restaurant. Our server James was attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable. He took the time to explain the menu to our party and made sure we each found an entree that was exactly what we wanted. The entire staff was excellent and the manager took time to come to our table and ensure that we were enjoying our meals. The menu is rather pricey, but you can be at ease knowing the meal and dining experience will be well worth it! To start, I had the french onion soup. It was cheesy, delicious, and not heavily salted. I ordered the cold water lobster tail and 8 oz filet mignon dinner. It was absolutely delicious. The steak was cooked perfectly and the cut of meat was fantastic. The lobster tail was much bigger than I was expecting and was extremely fresh. For dessert I had the tiramisu, and you could tell the whipped cream was handmade. Going to Opus 9 was the perfect way to celebrate and if in town we will definitely be back. If you are going to be in Williamsburg you must try Opus 9! You will not be disappointed.

This was by far the best steakhouse my wife and I have ever been to. I had the filet mignon and my wife had the New York strip au pouivre. It was tender, melt in your mouth, delicious. The service was top-notch and was well worth the price.
(5)David H.
Lunch only, the place is fancy but the dinner prices will make you faint. We got four people in and out for lunch for about 80 total, good luck getting dinner for the same under 200.

We had never heard of Opus 9 but got a gift cert from friends to eat there. The most notable thing is honestly how expensive it is compared to any local alternative. I have been to my share of high-end steakhouse/restaurants like this across the country (Ruth's Chris etc) and unfortunately I was rather unimpressed, especially given the premium pricing. Average 2 person dinner there with an appetizer and a drink or two is going to run between $150 to 200. The atmosphere was overly dark for how bright it was outside, so we felt like we were sitting in a cave. Cheap battery candles in place of the real thing offered no help for the lighting situation. I had a filet that despite being ordered as "medium" came out as rare, after waiting 45 minutes despite the place being less than 1/4 full. There was truthfully nothing that special about the filet, either so I was pretty disappointed that it costed over $50. After dinner my wife and I both agreed that we'd actually had better food at Logan's across town. All that being said, if you're just seeking the "upscale" look/feel, or somewhere to dress up then you're good to go. It's probably good for business or special occasions - I just can't recommend that you go for the food itself, if that's what you're looking for specifically.

I popped into Opus 9 on my way back from... somewhere, training maybe? I don't recall. Anyway, the gal at the Outlet mall, when asked what her favorite eatery was nearby, she said, "Omigosh, Opus 9". So, off I went. As a typical solo diner you never know what you're going to get when you walk into a posh establishment, but the cheery maitre de asked if the bar would be okay, and it was! Service was a *little* spotty (I was the only one at the bar), but I can't really ding them a star for it (although it's definitely a half-star). The waiter knew the menu though, and was gracious enough to not snicker when I murdered the phrase Au Poivre. It would be so much easier if they just called it a "Black Pepper Steak"... French people *eye roll* Anyway, the most interesting thing about this meal, that I've not seen in any steakhouse, and I've been to my share, is they ask you to cut your steak before they leave the table, to ensure the temprature is spot on. This little detail has cost many a steak house reviews of mine to lose a star. Overall, I felt it was a great meal and experience, I'd go back for sure.
(5)Aretha W.
Celebrated a girlfriend's birthday here (first time visiting for all of us). No complaints at all. Service was great (our server was Michael) and the food was excellent (definitely recommend the filet mignon with lobster tail and the Oscar 9. Looking forward to returning.

My wife and I met up with two other couples at Opus 9 and had a great time. The restaurant is easy to get to and located in a cool shopping area. The dining space is arranged to give diners a bit of privacy with an intimate ambiance. The staff is very professional and helpful with candid recommendations. I had the cowboy cut ribeye, which comes with the bone for enhanced flavor. The meat was cooked just right for me, was excellent quality, and tasted delicious. Additionally, I had a house salad to start and a berry dessert to finish; both were great. The dressing for the salad made the dish. We split a bottle of Cote du Rhone, which was the ideal complement to the meal.
(5)The G.
The food was pretty good but the service was not. The waiter pretty much ruined this place for us. He tried to push expensive wine and then seemed to look down on us for not ordering it. I just wanted a nice craft beer to go with my steak but was sorely disappointed in their selection. They didn't even carry any of the top notch local brews that would make sense for a place like this. If you want to spend 150$ for a dinner for 2 and get a decent steak with bad service go right ahead but my wife and I will not be back. Good riddance to our kind I guess...
(3)Alan F.
Fantastic steak - you really get what you pay for! The pecan bourbon Brie appetizer was divine! The combination of flavors was spot-on & it was more than enough for 2 to share. We aren't big eaters so we shared the New York strip Au poivre, and it was great. Hubby added a side of caramalized mushrooms & onions & it was plenty & great with the steak too. Really enjoyed the ambience, service & food. They deserve the great ratings they get. Thumbs up!!
(5)Doris W.
The food is good, but not worth the price. Don't order wine unless you want to pay $10 a glass for an eyedropper of wine!

Oh how I wish this place was nearby as we are on vacation from Orlando. We arrived at 6pm to have a few drinks pre dinner at the bar - and their happy hour is tops for value! We had a martini each and a double g&t and the price was hard to beat for a classy steak joint. The bartender, and I wish I got her name, was on point and made some great cocktails. The martini's during happy hour are a steal - I felt compelled to tip 50% based on the service and 1/2 price drinks. This was a great welcome and we had fun chatting with the locals... We moved to our table and Billy was our server and really attentive and funny. It's a lovely looking steakhouse and the decor was fresh and classy. After being seated, we perused their extensive wine list and found a favorite at a very reasonable (for a steakhouse) price. We started our ordering by splitting the Hearts of Iceburg (basically a bleu cheese wedge) and it was served pre-split and was plenty. And very tasty! I don't know what bleu cheese they are using but it was delish! We moved on to split a 12oz Filet, Med-rare and it was again, served split and was cooked perfectly. And man on man was it good! I got my half with bearnaise and it was one of the best I've had! We also ordered a side of Asparagus with Hollandaise and it was cooked perfectly and the sauce was incredible. For the included starch I got the au gratin which was tasty and the other half got the loaded baked which was not only very large, but literally loaded. He seemed to love it so another thumbs up. Didn't have room for desert but it sure sounded tasty! Next time I'm in W-burg I will certainly return!

We were visiting Williamsburg and went for dinner. Our waiter Billy was excellent. We has our two children 9 and 16 and he catered to them as well. We ordered Lobster tails, steak and Salmon. All were fabulous. Highly recommend this restaurant. I love that even though we we were dressed casual, all the Patriot fans waiters loved my son's sweatshirt. My daughter was treated like a princess. Thanks Opus 9!!!!
(5)Barbara K.
Went with a group of 8 for dinner and it was fabulous. The service was over the top and the food was exceptional. I wish I could have stayed longer. After the meal, we were so stuffed, but when they said Bananas Foster cheesecake - I caved. It was soooo good. Don't forget to save room for that one. Highly recommend as a premier steakhouse.

We came to Opus 9 tonight to celebrate my mom's birthday. The appetizers we pretty good. My sister has the calamari and I had the ahi tuna which were both delicious. The problem came with our main courses. After ordering it took almost an hour for the dishes to arrive. I ordered the Strip Au Poivre which came out ice cold inside and out, my sister had the Australian Lamb chops which also came out undercooked and the lobster my mother ordered was tough and had little taste. When the manager brought the food back out for my sister, I asked to have them make me a new piece of steak. The manager had the nerve to huff at me as he took my plate. Never have I been treated so rudely by a restaurant manager. We will not ever return to this establishment. I was willing to give them the benefit of the doubt for being busy, but the manager's attitude was unacceptable.
(1)Mercedes V.
Lunch was delicious, the fish and crab were outstanding great atmosphere great service. Very reasonably priced for lunch. Be anything I did not like was that the entrance to the bathroom was real close to another table
(4)Stan Y.
White tablecloths, excellent food and service. Best steak I've had in Williamsburg. Be sure to order carefully, steaks here are not overcooked! When you make a reservation for a special occasion, be sure to let them know - they make sure to make a big deal!
(4)Mickie D.
i so want to like this place since it is where a lot of people go and say is awesome and it is in my home town. and in wiliamsburg there are few places to get good food. so i went here and wasn't very impressed. I got a steak, a filet, thinking that's the way to go at a steakhouse. got it rare, that's how i like steaks. but i have to say it wasn't good at all. very chewy, hard to eat. I should've sent it back since I've had filets before that looked and tasted nothing like this. I don't want to dis this place since it looks like alot of people have had good experiences here. but for me, there are other places in williamsburg to get good steaks that are always good.
(3)Diane W.
Lunch today. Beef Bourignon was not the dish to get today. Mashed potatoes were cold. They took them back but came back still not very warm. Garlic was a little over the top. Beef was very grisly. Service was great but my meal was not.
(3)Tr M.
This place is located in New Town area. A fine steakhouse with prime steaks. Baked potatoes were a little under cooked, steaks were perfect. I had the bone in ribeye cowboy cut. Jaime had her filet, her way, and she said it was perfect also. The creamed corn was buttery, rich, creamy with Parmesan cheese shredded on the top. The bourbon selection was very good, I had a double shot of Jefferson 15 at $18 a shot, well worth it. They have a great wine list also. Please look this place up when in Williamsburg, VA.
(4)Quisha H.
Very nice place. Our sever was named Brandon. He was very nice and knowledgeable. I had the filet and Lobster tail. Both were cooked perfectly. My husband had the Oscar9. He stated that it was delicious. We both had a house salad with their house dressing which was a basil vinegarette type. Overall, the food was delicious. The reason their not getting 5 stars is because we made reservations and when we arrived they were not ready.( they open at 4:30 for dinner service) and then they sat us in the back. My husband asked to sit at a different table so they moved us. Overall, our waiter was really great and the food was delish!
(4)Christina M.
One of the best steak houses I've ever been to! The food was amazing!I got the snapper but other people at my table got steak. Everyone really enjoyed the meal. The martini's were also delicious. We celebrated my friends birthday. They did a great job!
(5)Patrick M.
Absolutely outstanding. Worth every penny. The food was extraordinary and service was incredible. A must for my wife and I when we return to Williamsburg. Highest recommendation.
(5)Hank S.
This restaurant combines excellent food and service in a welcoming manner. My wife and I had the chateaubriand and our guests enjoyed prime rib and shrimp, all of which was prepared to perfection. The wait staff were there when needed but not overbearing. We'll certainly be regulars when in Williamsburg.
(5)Meghan H.
I visited Opus 9 recently for happy hour and was so impressed with their deals. I got a glass of when for only $5 and it was a huge glass. I ended up ordering food and split the seafood nachos with 3 other people & we still couldn't finish our meal! Delicious!
(4)Caren B.
Heed well, travelers and locals alike: happy hour here is amazing, because you can get the marvelous food and drinks on discount. It's crowded, but it's worth it. Go. Go now.
(5)Kelsey H.
I go during their happy hour, which, if I remember correctly. Is 5-7pm Monday to Friday. I feel like a terrible person for not remembering the specials, but I know the prices are really good. My parents and fiancée go around dinnertime, which can be busy, but we always get prompt, incredible service from the ladies at the bar. My mixed drinks are always perfect, and everyone else loves the selection of wine and beer. I get the cheeseburger sliders ($1.75 each) and a side of fries, which come with ketchup made in-house. I wish I could lie and say I've never eaten the leftover ketchup with a spoon, but I totally have. It's just sooooo good. Everyone else usually splits the crab dip, and they all seem to really love it!
(5)Kim B.
What you need to know: Excellent customer service and a $10.00 lunch menu. Me and my co-workers sat outside on the patio, whereas most of the other patrons decided to sit inside on a beautiful afternoon. I'm sure this would make a great dinner date, or where college students take their parents when they're visiting (you know, because they're paying).

Out of all the reservations I made in Williamsburg on my 5 day stay, Opus 9 moved to #1 on my list for food and service. Darrick, our server for the evening, was a charming, good looking older gentleman with a medium dark tan. What I remember most was that the neighoring table included what looked to be retired elder women drooling over him with googly eyes every time he came by (lol). We started with rolls and crunchy crispbreads spread with a deliciously sinful specially house whipped honey butter. The steak and seafood combo presented itself on an extremely hot plate; so hot that the butter and juices on the plate sizzled. No steak sauce needed. Seafood sampler - perfectly cooked shrimps, scallops and fish. Dessert: tried the chocolate cake and cheesecake. I did not like the chocolate as much as it was highly rich, deep and decedent. I loved the cheesecake as it had the cake-like crust and medium thick cheesecake body. Finished off the meal with press coffee that wrapped the impressive night with a bow. The reasonable final pricetag added to the value of the visit with Darrick making our dining experience most enjoyable. P.S. They have a 10 for $10 menu for lunch during the weekdays.
(4)Seth B.
The steaks were mediocre (not to mention overpriced) and the drinks were poorly made and grossly overpriced. I would not go back nor would I recommend wasting your money. I am happy to pay good money for good food, but for this price/quality, you should choose another good steakhouse or save some money and go to outback.
(2)Richard S.
Perfection. This restaurant offers the best service and food in the Williamsburg area and beyond. Though known for steak, their seafood is as compelling. Their creme brulée is the best I have ever had. The service was spot on and the bathrooms were spotless. In fact we liked it so much that we came back twice in one week. We highly recommend this restaurant.
(5)Mark C.
Went here for a birthday party had a steak that was unbelievable good filet mignon ,service and the food the potatoes the vegetables everything was just perfect . Highly recommend this place it is a great steakhouse they have good fish as well
(5)Jeff D.
Regardless of the situation, there is no excuse for rudeness or arrogance. I was not treated as a valued regular customer and you continue to demonstrate a misunderstanding of my complaint!
(1)George J.
Call me a cheap skate or what ever you'd like but this place was EXPENSIVE. The food was good and all but was our steak and seafood $30 A PLATE better than what you can get at any average place? I think not. Interior? Mehh. Again it was nice just not blow you off your feet nice. We only went in because we saw the lunch menu posted outside and thought what the heck. Didn't know there would be such a price difference for dinner. On the plus side the meal was brought out quickly and our waiter was top notch.
(3)Lauren S.
I don't understand how anyone can give Opus 9 less than a five-star review. My boyfriend and I went there last weekend to celebrate the last night of our vacation at Colonial Williamsburg. The hostess that greeted us was extremely friendly and sat us at a spacious booth located right next to the piano. Our server (Sean) came by promptly, and placed two rosettes of FRESHLY MADE BUTTER onto a plate and began to tell us the specials for the night. Sean was kind enough to guide my boyfriend through the drink menu, recommending a smooth whiskey and a rare bourbon. There were only five bottles in the whole state and he told us where we could find the others nearby. We both had the Filet Mignon and it was literally the best steak we ever had. When it came to the table they whip out a mini-flashlight to ensure that your steak is cooked to absolute perfection. My boyfriend and I also split a side of macaroni and cheese which was out of the world. Dessert was a class act - molten lava cake was made freshly and served hot! This was an amazing way to end our stay in Virginia and I would highly recommend it. And to anyone who says it's pricey - a) my boyfriend and I aren't rich but seriously, you get what you pay for. This is a quality place with amazing food. And if you can't afford it, don't eat here.
(5)J H.
I go just to see the piano! Great food and service!
(5)Sam B.
The seafood was amazing, being from the Midwest I knew I would not top the steaks from here so I did not try. Had the calamari, and seafood trio ( great on both choices). I was told I have to try the onion rings, they were good ( way to much for one person ), large rings, light batter but a little greasy ( not drained very well ). Over-all I would highly recommend this place as an upscale seafood restaurant. Good attentive waiter and after reading the review on bad service could find none of it the night I went.
(5)Marianne S.
I am a sorry sucker for fine dining, I don't mind shelling out $300 bucks for a meal as long as its worth it and Opus 9 is definitely one of those places unlike Schlesinger's in Newport News. The location is in town center near B&N, its across from some art gallery place in the corner. Parking is limited but I guess you can park in the back if you want to. Theres a small outdoor seating area with torces ablaze. I went on Valentine's day and reservations were made two weeks in advance around 7pm. Once we got there it was all fancy pants and they took out coats and led us to our seats. The place is a white table top joint, dressy casual is fine but I was there on a date so we were pretty well dressed as were the clientale in the room. It was a little intimidating because we were the youngest and only ethinc people in there but that quickly faded. The ambiance was romantic and we sat near the self playing piano. Our waiter was in a tux and he very nice but he seemed nervous, maybe he was new? Anyway, we ordered a salad for starters and a bottle of wine. The wine was good even if the first bottle spilled all over the table when the waiter brought it out. Poor thing. They quickly cleaned the tbale and offered some freebies which was cool. I ordered a grouper special which was phenomanal! It was buttery and smooth. The mash potatoes and asparagus were great too. My date at the time ordered steak and lobster, he seemed to enjoy it and til this day still talks about that damn steak. Ahem, anyway. I have been to a handful of fine dining places on the Peninsula and Opus 9 has been the winner thus far. I hear their brunch is pretty good and that the crowd is more casual. I'll do another review whenever I get the chance to make my way up there on a Sunday. Overall, if you want a nice little dinner date and got some extra cash go here and sit back while you enjoy the food and intimate environment.

Bad copy of Ruth Chris. I looked at the menu online before making a reservation for my birthday to make sure they had my favorites. Everything was out of stock when I ordered at 6:45pm on a Saturday night and it was not crowded. The staff at the door was cold. The waiter shameless pushed pricy wine & port trying to guilt my boyfriend into buying it for my birthday when I didn't want it and could not order the meal or sides I hoped for. Terrible!

For our anniversary, we made a last minute reservation a couple of hours in advance to go to Opus 9. When we got there around 5pm, we were the only patrons. It was busy a little layer though! Our server Ryan was very helpful with the menu choices and very friendly. He made sure to double check on how we wanted our steaks cooked. My husband had the bone in cowboy ribeye steak and I had filet minion with lobster. Let me say..my husbands steak came out sizzling and his was very good!! My filet and lobster was excellent as well. Even the little salad on the plate was tasty. Expect to pay $50+ pp not including drinks. We were so wowed by this place and we will def come back. We even met a couple who was celebrating their 44th anniversary. We are four years strong! For dessert we shared banana foster cheesecake. Sooo good! Opus 9 goes out of the way to give patrons good food and good service. We will be back!
(5)Chris S.
My girlfriend and I came to Williamsburg for vacation and didn't know where to get dinner and stumbled upon Opus 9 on Yelp. I had a seafood bisque and a NY strip and she had a steak diane. Total for the meal came to around $85 before tax. It is not on the cheapside but you get what you pay for. Great food. Great service.
(5)Sam S.
Took my husband here for his bday dinner, & let me just add that this place is "boojie". I am not going to knock the food. The cowboy steak, ribeye, and side of creamed spinach was AMAZING! The service however was not. Upon walking in, was asked if we had reservations, answered no. Was told a 45min wait or sit at bar. Plenty of empty tables could be seen from the entrance. The host looked at us as if we didn't belong there. We should have left from the hosts attitude but I insisted my husband enjoyed his dinner. We opted for the bar, & it was 2 young annoying girls working. For the price you pay for food there the service should match up.

We came from out of town to Williamsburg for the weekend and were looking for a local place to eat. Since I make most of my decisions based on reviews, I obviously was excited to try such a highly rated restaurant. My dad doesn't eat meat so we looked over the seafood portion of the menu and both found something to try. He had the Grouper and I had the Salmon. I tried mine and loved it. Then again, I always love salmon because you really can't go wrong unless you over cook it. It was perfect. Then he let me try his grouper. That was delicious! He says it was cooked just right and seasoned very well. The black beans and corn that went with it were a great addition as well. It was also his and my first experience with grouper, and it was great. The atmosphere was also very classy and welcoming with very friendly and knowledgable waiters. I would definitely come here again.
(5)Margaret B.
This was an amazing meal! The food was superb and the wine was wonderful, great choice Neil Burnette! The Seafood Trio was as good as it looked, as was the Ribeye (my husband had this), and the Salmon (Neil had this) was beautifully prepared. I also loved my MaiTai before dinner. The salads were fresh and very nice, too; but it was the fresh berries for dessert, the shrimp, and the Ribeye that I will fondly remember for a lifetime!
(5)Frank V.
Incredible! Great food. Great wine. Amazing service from a knowledgable staff. I have dressed up and dressed down in my two visits and have been treated with class. The steak is amazing and so are the other entrees. I recommend exploring the menu and appetizers. Their wine list is wonderful and well rounded. Once my waiter realized I was exploring the wine list he made a recommendation which was the favorite of my previous visit. The portions are large and you will not leave hungry. Just try to save some room for wonderful dessert and coffee. This is "The Place" for a date or that special occasion.
(5)S. L.
I met some friends here for the lunch special and was very pleased with the restaurant service and food.I order the fried flounder over rice and green beans with a side salad that was very good.I thought the prices was excellent for the meal $14 total including tax.I will definitely return here for lunch again!

We were looking for a nice dinner while traveling through historic Jamestown/Williamsburg area. At first glance, we thought it a bit odd that such a fancy restaurant would be in the middle of a mini-mall.. But we forged on the try this experience, per our pending reservations. Upon entering, Opus does have a nice ambiance. We were seated in 1 of 2 warm/cozy rooms that included dim lighting, decorative pieces, and a fireplace. I would like to think that these more intimate rooms are for reservations only, as the rest of the restaurant seemed very average. Once seated in our elegant 'living room' type dining area, we experienced good service and delicious food! I chose to have the wahoo fish special, while my BF enjoyed the seafood sampler. We went on a Monday, and all wine bottles were 1/2 price! Pretty amazing. The food was some of the best I have had in a long time, and it will be memorable. Only disappointing part was the key lime pie dessert, which was bland and not tangy at all. The staff was kind and courteous, and I would highly recommend Opus as a nice dining experience if looking for a romantic/intimate dinner for 2! Parking was easy- with parking slots being supplied for all stores in the out door mini-mall.

Went here for my wife's birthday and unfortunately our experience wasn't that great. I started by making a reservation 2 days prior and mentioned that it was her birthday and anything they could do to make her feel special would be greatly appreciated. This is were they dropped the ball big time. I have been to some other fine dining restaurants in the area for special occasions and they went way above and beyond in particular Ruth Chris's for her b day last year. No one mentioned anything to her about, not one peep. The only thing they did was the hostess brought out a card near the end of our meal that said happy b day and put it on the corner of our table, on top of that they misspelled her name. I made sure to spell it correctly in the email because the way she spells her name is unique. The ambience was great and our steaks were cooked perfectly, still very delicious. The sides were ok nothing to special especially my potatoes au gratin I think were undercooked/over cooked. Our waiter didn't seem friendly at all more like he was just going through the motions. Other servers in the same dining room were very attentive and thoroughly explained how the steaks were cooked and the specials. When we left I spoke with the manager and he stated he would address things with the hostess and the server and apologized for not providing better service. Don't think I will be going back. Next time I drop that kind of money on a steakhouse I think I will stick with Ruth Chris.

This place is really, really good. We brought a group of 16 rowdy golfer dudes there for a late meal Saturday night. We were hoping to get into the private dining area so as not to disturb other customers but it was not available and we were there late enough that most of folks were clearing out as we got set up. The staff was incredibly accommodating despite our rather uncouth behavior. The food was delicious if a little bit pricey. I will very likely be dining there next time I'm in the area. Shout out to Jessica for arranging our advanced booking.

First, let me start off by saying how far this restaurant has come. I ate at Opus 9 over five years ago and it was a different experience. The ambiance at that time was far from the lively and welcoming setting we now enjoy. The crowd is no longer dominated by overly pretentious diners and untrained employees, but primarily middle-aged to retired patrons and occasionally adults in their 30s. The current staff as I've observed are witty, phenomenally trained and charming. Funniest part: having 4 waitstaff whip out their flashlights to check if our steaks were cooked to our order. It was like a crime scene, except the only one that died was me because their food was absolutely delicious. The uncomfortable: those tables can be too small and constricting. You'll be lucky to have a place to put your camera or clutch purse on the table once the food is out. The best part of our meal: Our humble sommelier, STEVEN KROLL, was professional, passionate and great fun as he educated us all night long about wine. Request him during your reservation and be blown away once you show a genuine interest in his knowledge. Honestly, even if the food was terrible, I'd come back with my family and friends just to absorb everything he knew. I can't believe how young he is, or perhaps it's his enthusiasm that makes him appear youthful. He's opened up our senses, brought this new world for us to appreciate, and made our night truly memorable. Best of all? He's not full of himself and is committedly open-minded. He loves discovering affordable wines (think $10-25) that will knock people's socks off. Get ready to make an interesting friend.

Everything was great..from the atmosphere, The lighting, service was on point, I had the chicken and cous cous which was awesome. Both drinks from the barking were good ( recommend their Old Fashioned) and the desert was pecans and brie in puff pastry and was phenomenal.

Opus nine is definitely a top notch choice for dinning in Williamsburg, VA. The steak was cooked to perfection and the potato au gratin was divine. I will definitely be back.
(5)Shaun M.
From start to finish the service was impeccable (thank you Steve). Yes it's a little pricey but the food is well prepared and portions are perfect. Try the Lobster Scampi it's great. Sunday's are half priced bottles of wine so you can try a higher priced wine and not break the bank
(4)Lesley A.
Opus 9 never fails to be a great meal. Best filet. Brandon was a great server--attentive but discreet. Great wine list. They make every dinner a celebration and every celebration a wonderful event.

Everyone was really nice from the hostess to our waiter being very attentive. My husband and I celebrated our anniversary there and the food was amazing. He had a bon in prime rib the oozed out the flavors and I had shrimp stuffed with crab don't know the exact name. I also had a seafood bisque which has crab meat in it It was really good also I had to tell myself to stop eating it so I could save room for my main course. I would highly recommend the restaurant to anyone.

Opus 9 is TOP SHELF. The place is done up to create a private feel to the tables and the staff was exceptional. Our waiter was friendly and knew the menu inside and out. We started with the bourbon pecan brie and it was delicious!! Could have been a dessert is was so sweet, but I'm glad we started with it as I did not have room later. Then I went with the Cowboy cut ribeye done Opus 9 style (lump crab and potabella shroom) which was cooked perfectly and tasted spectacular. My date had the Fillet Opus 9 and her cut was also quite nice. It is pricey but sometimes you get what you pay for and if a fine dining experience is what you're looking for than this is your stop. I will be returning next time I'm in Williamsburg.

Steve was our server and he is excellent at his service. Great wine, fabulous food and wonderful ambiance. I had the seafood mornay. If you like macaroni and cheese and seafood- this dish is to die for. They do have real macaroni and cheese too that is also excellent. My dish was pretty but omg it was so smooth and warm and flavorful! I took half home and had it for breakfast the next morning. My salad with basil dressing was fabulous and the flourless chocolate cake and the butterscotch pecan pie were both done to perfection (this is why I had to take part of the pasta home)

On a recent visit to Williamsburg I took one of my hosts out to lunch at Opus 9. The decor is very elegant and the service is near perfect. The wait staff is very friendly and engaging and is also quite helpful when deciding what to order. Bread is quickly brought to the table accompanied by butter squeezed from a pastry bag. Nice touch! My dining companion and started off with a couple of (regular) Bloody Marys and an order of calamari frita to split. Very generous portion of calamari although a little over battered in my opinion. My host ordered the Prime Rib sandwich and I ordered the Salad Niçoise. Everything I tasted was very good to excellent. If I had one complaint it would be that when served a Salad Niçoise, the restaurant actually uses the correct olives for the salad - the Niçoise Cailletier olives and not the standard green olives that were also used for the Bloody Mary. I realize this sounds a bit petty, but when one is claiming their restaurant is, 'premier' and is offering high end food and at upper level prices, cutting corners on olives for a salad type that actually has a particular olive with same name, you've got to wonder what they were thinking. That is pretty basic stuff here.
(4)Bill A.
Meghan our server was wonderful. The decor and atmosphere are almost perfect. We began with the bourbon pecan Brie app, which was delicious. My wife ordered the citrus salmon and it was cooked perfectly. I had the 8 oz fillet and also cooked exactly as I requested. We also ordered a side of asparagus with hollandaise sauce. I was pleasantly surprised that the asparagus was not over or under cooked. A wonderful experience overall. A bit on the expensive side and you should dress business casual.
(5)H C.
Ambience 5 stars excellent great music Service 4.5 stars Food: I had the bisque and it was way too salty. The Kobe meatloaf was a solid 4 Overall good and will return
(4)AM K.
This is by far one of the greatest steak houses in the country! We both had the filet as it was the special that night, and enjoyed a half price bottle of wine that our server recommended to us! We will be going back in a couple of weeks when we go back to Williamsburg.
(5)Teri R.
Impeccable service! Romantic atmosphere! Greek sausage and vegetable soup was an AMAZING prelude to a spectacular dinner that ended with mouth watering Crème Brule!
(5)Lena L.
I would highly recommend going here. The service and the food is outstanding. It can be pricey, but they have an awesome lunch menu that is very reasonable. I have had holiday brunch here several times and always enjoyed it immensely.
(5)Sheena C.
We Choose to visit Opus 9 on a Anniversary trip an were not disappointed. From the cocktails to the last bite of steak we truly enjoyed it all. The Seafood Bisque is a standout an treat to the taste buds a must try. You cant beat the steak an any of the Potato dishes all of the food is a true delight. If your in the area an want a wonderful, upscale meal this is your place.
(4)Charlie M.
Excellent food and service. They really care that you are enjoying your time there. My advice: order the double Martini

Too many people save visits to Opus 9 for special occasions. I am here to say...don't wait! If you think it is "too expensive"...go for lunch where they have "10 things under $10". Also, each year after Restaurant Week, they develop a "Recession Fighter" menu that includes a three course meal for under $35! Just ask for that menu by name. My favorite thing is Happy Hour. Surely one of the best in the area with a bar that is always packed and bartenders that really know how to mix good drinks. One caveat--there are no beers on tap if that's you favorite thing....but they have an excellent wine collection.
(5)Robert H.
Not bad food usually but not worth the price. Sort of Morton's prices for lesser quality (and I am not a big Morton's fan...).
(2)Lon H.
Fantastic steak! Only steak that has been better is Burn's Steakhouse in Tampa, FL. Service was slow and I didn't think that it was at the caliber that was necessary for a fine steakhouse...but the food was incredible. Be prepared to shell out some cash at this place.
(4)Kathleen M.
While on the pricey side, this makes for a wonderful special evening out. For all those other nights, their happy hour is a must do! Until 7 p.m. on weeknights in the bar and outside, they offer $5 glasses of wine that are wonderful. They have a bar menu too and this is our favorite happy hour spot in Williamsburg. Their Sunday brunch is also a must do!
(4)Robert R.
This was our 13 year anniversary dinner and they KNEW it. They had a nice little sign they put on the table they gave us which was right next to the kitchen entrance and the bathrooms. Lovely. And, btw, they had plenty of open tables on a Sunday night. I asked to move and they did, but wife had to go get our menus and bread since they didn't move it. My wife ordered the crab cakes because it was one of the only seafood items which didn't have "creole aioli" on it. Lo and behold, it came out with "creole aioli" all over everything, the crab and the pasta. I ordered a $40 8oz filet mignon. The temperature was perfect when it came out, but it was absolutely CRUSTED in a thick layer of salt and pepper. I politely told the waitress that I had not ordered my steak "au poivre" (even though there was no sauce) and did not like pepper. My wife didn't mention her problem and simply pushed food around her plate. We waited 20 minutes and another steak came out. Perfect temperature again but STILL absolutely covered in a thick layer of salt and pepper! I called the waitress back over and basically said that I did not think there would be a meeting of the minds on steaks and I would simply like it removed from the bill. My wife still had said nothing about her food which was still sitting there. The waitress stared at me and said "there's no seasoning on the steak." I then took my knife and scraped a thick chunk of CRUST right off the steak onto the plate, picked it up and handed it to her. She looked at it, looked and me and said "there's no seasoning on the steak." At this point my wife chimed up and complained about her food as well, that the menu had not mentioned a sauce on the food. The waitress got incredibly obnoxious and said "I'm sure it does". My wife went and got a menu to prove that it did not, but the waitress refused to look. My wife spoke to the manager to demand both items be removed from the bill. The waitress then came back and was extremely smug and obnoxious for the rest of the service. We couldn't wait to get out of there. At the end she came back and said as smugly and nastily as she could "and you have a Happy Anniversary." At this point, she made my wife cry. My wife, who is a senior vice president and regional manager for a bank and manages HUNDREDS of people, actually started CRYING due to this ridiculous woman who felt the need to ruin our anniversary. My wife doesn't cry unless she's reached her absolute frustration point. We went back to the manager and demanded that she be fired on the spot. We didn't stick around to see if it had happened, but i doubt it. We have the name of the waitress (Chiara), the name of the manager (Stephen) and the name of the Director of Marketing and Sales (Jessica). This won't be the last they hear from us. Without a doubt the WORST anniversary we have EVER experienced. Perhaps the worst meal we've ever experienced at that price point. Outback Steakhouse has a better steak. If I could give this place negative stars, I would.
(1)Sherris M.
Went here for my anniversary and I don't know which was better, the food or our service. Definitely a place worthy of a special occasion. If ever in Williamsburg again, I will definitely be coming back here. Only reason I didn't give 5 stars is be quad when we called they said business casual. We arrived and saw men in shorts and sneakers. I would have preferred an enforceable dress code since we were dressed for upscale and. Of every man's dining. But the food made up for it.

Pros: Excellent steaks, great atmosphere, huge wine list, knowledgeable and friendly service Cons: Price, dessert So I noticed Williamsburg has an abundance of steak houses, so my wife and I made a point to pick one steakhouse each trip we take there. Opus 9 came highly recommended throughout Williamsburg. We spoke with several hotel concierges, vacation spots, and tourist centers. Most times it came up as the arguably the top steakhouse in Williamsburg, however pricey usually followed the description. Regardless, we couldn't turn down such a highly recommended location. My wife and I called at 6:00pm on Saturday to check wait times and if they took reservations. The hostess over the phone stated that they are booked until 8:30pm and do take reservations. I strongly recommend calling ahead on the weekend. Parking doesn't seem to be a major issue even during peak times. The outside is welcoming but not indicating what is on the inside. As you walk through the doors, the dim lighting and hostess set the atmosphere and are a great welcome. We noticed we were slightly under dressed, most gentlemen were wearing button up shirts and slacks or nice pants, women wearing skirts/dresses or equally as nice as the men. We were told from a few locals that it was still casual place and not too dressy, I don't recommend jeans and a t-shirt though. We were sat at our table in a large room, the area was nicely lit and had great décor. I believe this would be a elegant and classy place for a date or special occasion. We were met by Micheal our server, a very respectful individual who made our experience. He has been in the restaurant business 15 years, I strongly recommend asking to be sat in his area as he is very quick to meet your needs and has great recommendations. He started us out with the restaurants hand made honey butter and bread which is by far an excellent way to start the experience and great treat while looking over the extensive wine list and drink menu. The wine choices are amazing, but you have to be careful, you can spend $10 for a glass of wine or you could spend $300+ for a bottle. You could pay $20 dollars for a glass of scotch or $125. We decided to stick with wine during our visit but were recommended many of the martinis and cocktails. We decided to go with Micheal's recommendation for an appetizer after he explained that the crab cakes were Williamsburg award winning 5 years running. I will have to say that they delicious, and definitely worth the try. Micheal recommended quite a few steaks. My wife went with the cowboy cut and I went with the Filet Mignon. I also was given the choice for a soup or salad which I opted for the soup and the recommended French onion. I will say the soup was great, had a great flavor, again strongly recommend. Regarding the service, Micheal made sure that our needs were met and checked in enough to make sure when our wine glasses low if we wanted more but not enough to be pushy or annoying. The time between food was perfect, we weren't waiting on anything but weren't rushing to finish our crab cakes as our food came out. We felt very relaxed and enjoyed every moment. As the main course arrived, the plate sizzled as the steaks come in a plate with a thin layer of butter. Both steaks smelled delicious and looked equally as good. Although the sides were also recommendations they were only a separate place holder on the table compared to the steaks and didn't stand out in comparison. I ordered my steak medium rare, although as I cut into my steak I noticed it was about medium and not as pink as I had hoped. Although I blame myself as I didn't take into account it cooking slightly after being taken off the grill. Regardless, the steak was tender as expected. The outside was a delicious and seasoned with the fire in which in came, the inside was tender and still juicy regardless of being slightly cooked beyond my expectations, and every bite almost melted in my mouth. I use a previous statement of, I cut my steak into the smallest pieces so I could enjoy every bite and moment. We also decided to do dessert regardless of being extremely full. We decided to share a slice of cheesecake and end the night sharing a 20 year Port. I'm a HUGE cheesecake fan and sadly I will have to say this was my biggest disappointment. The cheesecake was small, didn't stick out or really shout exciting. The cheesecake also had a zest to it, a lemon flavor. The great finish was Port, however don't expect a glass but a sip of Port (which is standard for most restaurants). I strongly recommend this restaurant! Regardless of the price, which between my wife and I, we spent $210 (including tip) for an appetizer, four glasses of wine, soup, two steaks, cheesecake, and a glass of port. Although the price may be a factor, the quality is exceptional along with beyond our expectation service. A must try for anyone in Williamsburg.

We went here for my grandmother's 80th birthday last night and it was really good. They put us in a private room, which made the experience even better. My aunt and uncle are regulars here, so she took care of a lot of the ordering. We started with the seafood sampler appetizer which had spicy shrimp, regular cocktail shrimp, crab cakes, and scallops. My personal favorites were the spicy shrimp and the scallops. The scallops were huge! I ate half of one quite happily. It was perfectly cooked and practically melted in my mouth. I skipped the salad course and was glad I did because they were also huge. I opted for the 8oz filet mignon with bernaise and au gratin potatoes. I ordered my steak medium well, probably to the horror of all the steak afficianados out there, but I was very happy with the done-ness. It was still tender, juicy, and devilishly tasty. The bernaise added that little something extra I was looking for. By that point I was so stuffed, I barely put a dent in my au gratin potatoes, even though they were also very good. I would definitely suggest this to someone if they're feeling rich, a little dressed up, and looking for a good meal. The service was excellent, but that may have had to do with the fact we were in the private room. I don't know if it would've varied in the main dining room.

FANTASTIC experience!!! Décor was beautiful and very peaceful. Restaurant was quiet and comfortable. Our food was AMAZING and the service was really great! Darrick took really good care of us and made us feel important. I have the New York Strip Au Poivre and the Crème Brulee. Both were superb. Would definitely eat there again and recommend to anyone visiting Williamsburg!

We found this restaurant while staying at the Great Wolf Lodge and we were extremely glad we gave it a try for dinner. The atmosphere is quiet and elegant but we did notice they allow very young children/toddlers. Our server was professional and friendly, making several useful suggestions. We had appetizer salads, 2 different steaks, and the bananas foster for dessert. Everything tasted wonderful and was elegantly presented.
(5)Lauren H.
I recently celebrated my birthday here with my parents. It was my first visit and I was immensely impressed by the food, staff and atmosphere. From bread to dessert our waiter was attentive and easy going (I hate feeling rushed at restaurants). I got the crab cakes for appetizer and the special bone-in cowboy ribeye for my meal. Heaven. I will definitely be back!
(5)Patrick P.
Ok, we were looking for a brunch in the Williams/James CIty (it is actually in James City) and this place did not disappoint. The food was excellent. The menu was excellent. Not a single bad thing to say about any of it. The waiter was outstanding. Management came over twice to see if we were happy with everything. I would have to say that this was the 2nd best brunch I have ever been to, period. It might be the best considering the price. The experience was so good, I am seriously thinking about getting a timeshare in the area. One last statement, the only places I have went to that gave this quality of service and food were $100+ for 2. This might be the best bargain on the East Coast @ $22 for the brunch.
(5)Cheryl C.
While we visit Williamsburg several times a year, this was our first visit to Opus 9. And, we were not disappointed. Our server, Brandon, was truly delightful offering spot on recommendations on wine and menu selections. My husband's steak was truly the best either of us had ever had anywhere. And, the cheesecake was like eating a fluffy cloud...no other way to describe it. We will definately return.
(4)Jeff N.
I took my wife here for our anniversary and I could not have been happier with the selection. They treated us great and the food was out of this world along with the service would recommend to anyone.
(5)Craig D.
Went with a group for a business dinner in the private room. The staff was attentive and worked with the host to make sure the courses were timed to the presentation. The appetizers were tasty and good portions. When taking our orders, our server steered us to the steaks, indicating that "we're known mostly for being a great steakhouse." I was going to try something else, but changed my order to the bone-in filet. It was the most tender and flavorful steak that I think I've ever had, and I've had bone-in filet before. The sides were "big enough to share," but only between two people. I would love to comment on the desserts, but the meal filled everyone up. Next time, I'll skip the salad... :) And if I have to throw in one gripe, it was the lighting - the restaurant is pretty dark, to the point that the wait staff carried flashlights so you could check the doneness of your steak - that was an interesting ritual that I could have skipped. All-in-all, though, excellent meal.
(5)Thomas V.
We went there with a big party because of its reputation for great steaks. Without a doubt, the best steak restaurant in Williamsburg. The steaks were tasteful with a spice that complimented the meat. The steak was delicious, the atmosphere was conducive for talking and the service was exceptional. Will be going back with the wife on special occasions.
(4)Anne H.
How steak should be served: in a low key setting, cooked to perfection, accompanied by potatoes to die for. I can usually resist the bread basket, not here! They had me at "honey butter". Pricey. Worth it. We will return.
(5)Robyn D.
Excellent service and food but is a little pricey. The filet oscar was cooked perfectly. Be ready to spend.
(4)Tim M.
Not remotely worth 5 stars - but a very worthy 4. Sept 3 - Wife and I were looking for a good meal for our 2nd wedding anniversary while visiting Southeastern VA. Stumbled across Opus 9 via web searches. I've been to some pretty amazing steak joints around the country; Omaha Prime in Nebraska. Sullivans in Austin TX. And of course a multitude of Ruth's Chris and Mortons around the nation. As my readers know - I don't give out 5 stars often. I'm a fan - but this isn't one of those truly memorable meals a real foodie will rave about ad infinitum. We made reservations but didn't need them at 6. You probably will need them after 7 on a weekend. There is valet parking and at the time of this review the cookie-cutter strip mall Opus 9 is in was still under construction - nonetheless when the construction is finished there will be plenty of strip-mall parking nearby unless you can't walk a half block. The appointments were very nice (and of course new). A couple HUGE lobsters were perched in the tank at the entrance. Once seated the room we were in was about 59 degress - freezing. We mentioned this and for awhile they turned the air back - but it eventually came back on and I have a high tolerance for cold - it was never 'comfortable'. Ordered my usual Grey Goose Dirty Gibson ($12) to start and went over the menu. All beef here is Prime quality but wet-aged - I do prefer dry-aged myself but that is harder to pull off I know. There are a number of cuts including prime rib, bone-in filet (interesting and unusual) , a 24oz porterhouse (they were out of this unfortunately), and a cowboy cut ribeye. I wanted the porter but no one told me ahead of time they were out of it (you lose points for this sorry) - I had to rethink my order with the waiter standing there at this point. Went with the bone-in filet since it had been quite awhile since I'd even seen that on a menu. Asked for it 'pittsburgh' style (i.e. black and blue - if I have to explain this to you stop reading now). They obliged and the chef even had the smarts to put the usual mustard and horseradish crust on the side as it would have been burned to a bitter mess otherwise given my request for 'doneness'. The filet was prehistoric in size and done perfectly - a gastrique dotted the plate along with some finely diced veg. As a side I got the au-gratin potatoes. Sides are billed as for 'sharing' like you see at Ruth's Chris but they weren't really. Soup du Jour was Sweet Potato Bisque - which was a little stringy and a tad bit more like pumpkin pie mix to me. Bit too much vanilla, brown sugar, etc. Wife had the chicken which was 1/2 chicken marinated in garlic and thyme served with redskin potatoes and a bacon au jus. She's unbelievably picky and said it was one of the best chicken dishes she's had in awhile. But this place is a steak house - so the reivew is really based on that experience although you get great points for pleasing my wife who makes the Life cereal kid Mikey look like an infant in regard to being often intolerably picky. The bone-in filet itself didn't seem to have much age on it unfortunately - it was really good - but not spectacular. For $47 - should have been something I spent 20 minutes after dinner posting all over my Facebook page. We skipped dessert and didn't even look at that menu. I did have a 2nd Gibson and discovered by asking that they had blue cheese stuffed olives for their martinis - was never offered. The waiter didn't explain the daily specials to us either. So in summary the food here was very good - the service itself was very good. They lost points for communication, the frigid room we were in, and a few on taste itself as well as execution on the soup of the day (should have been strained better). We would probably go back but we don't visit this area often and there are other places we'd like to check out like the Fat Canary. By all means if you're up for the price tag and experience try Opus 9 out - it will be interesting to see if it survives in this economy in Hampton Roads but by 8pm it was pretty packed - a couple was in the bar waiting for a table without reservations. The bar by the way is designed for moles - you couldn't see your hand in front of your face in there. Since none of the other reviewers really bothered to actually review this place and still gave it 5 stars I'm calling 'shenanigans' on those reviews. This is the only one that you should consider. Not remotely humbly submitted this day, D. Food Snob, Ph.D.
(4)Jenny D.
Outstanding meal and excellent service. No complaints from me! Great place to celebrate a special event.
(5)Rachel W.
Nice atmosphere but the food quality does not equal the price. I took a friend for his birthday and we weren't impressed. The food was "ok" at "great" food pricing. Also, we purchased a bottle of white wine and it was left on our table to sweat (no carafe). Also, one of the dinners came out late and my friend ordered a side that never arrived. For what I paid, I expected more.
(3)Becky B.
While I'm a local, this was my first visit to Opus 9 for dinner. Word to the wise, it is a special occasion restaurant, unless you're rolling in $$$. But you get what you pay for. While Opus 9 has an excellent weekend brunch and daily lunch value menu, dinner is high-end in both quality and price. Wines are excellent, and there are by-the-glass or half carafe selections available. French crusty bread and wafer crisps are served with honey butter on a dish with water before ever an order is taken. The ahi tuna was rare, nicely seared and crusted with sesame seeds with a small and tasty side of seaweed. Caprese salad had a nice dressing and was large enough to share. I had the Oscar 9, a filet mignon with lump crab on a portabello mushroom and just enough bernaise. It was served with asparagus and I had the baked potato as a side. The baked potato comes open and hot with butter already on it. The waiter serves you a selection of toppings for your potato of sour cream, bacon and leeks from a 3-dish server to your taste. The steak was cooked precisely as ordered, medium, and the asparagus was almost al dente - crispy but not underdone or stringy. My dinner companion had the filet mignon au pauvre with garlic mashers and a sid of asparagus. The asparagus dish was billed as enough for two, but at six spears that is hardly the case. They may want to rethink the language on the menu for that one, as anyone who orders thinking "enough for two" will be seriously disappointed. Coffee was served from a French press, available in regular and decaf. All in all an excellent experience. If you enjoy a bottle of wine with dinner, appetizers and coffee after, expect to spend about $100 per person (without tip). The service was very good, the food excellent, the ambience comfortable and special. This is a place to take that date you want to impress or to celebrate a special event. I give it 4.5 stars to reflect the fault in the menu and the sticker shock to folks who don't expect to see a $50 steak in a strip mall.
(4)Billy M.
Great service, ask for Phil! Pricey menu, but it was to be expected just looking at the place. The food was delicious, I had the rockfish topped with jumbo lump cab meat and a lemon-caper beurre Blanc that was just perfect and highly recommended! They also had an extensive wine list, something to please everyone. All in all great place and will come back the next tim I'm around. PS. Great tiramisu!!
(5)Christopher N.
What a spectacular restaurant. I had the special Mahi Mahi which might be the best fish I've ever eaten. My wife had the NY strip steak and it too did not disappoint. To top off the food, the service was wonderful. Unlike most restaurants in the states, we never felt rushed and we actually got to enjoy our dining experience without being rushed out the door. Warning though that the meal is quite expensive, but a great place for celebrating special occasions.
(5)Sharon B.
Completely sold on the seafood. When they say "no fillers" in the lump crab cake sandwich, they mean it! The shrimp cocktail as appetizer also tasted of the sea. Mom and Dad enjoyed their lunches and I would go back in a flash if I lived in Williamsburg. Also, as a Californian who loves wine, I took a leisurely look through their wine list and found some old friends from Willamette Valley and some CA wines that I know are stellar. Impressive!
(5)Pinkie J.
I would go back to Williamsburg just for their Sunday brunch - it's THAT good. Great atmosphere, awesome service and delicious food. Our waiter Brandon was super sweet, very polite and helpful. I would have paid double of what it cost. Dont leave Williamsburg without going to this restaurant!
(5)R G.
Based on tips from our hotel concierge and fellow Yelp reviewers, my boyfriend and I went to Opus 9 for Sunday brunch during our weekend visit to Williamsburg. We were told that the quality of food would be just as great as at dinnertime, but at much less price. We were pleased that Opus 9 lived up to the hype. Sunday brunch was buffet-style with many great offerings, plus chocolate fondue dippings and a carving station. The prime rib and ham were excellent, as were the lobster mac & cheese, fried chicken with white gravy, potato salad, crabcake, and the smoked salmon (accompanied by capers and cream cheese). I did not love the eggs benedict, however. They also had a made-to-order omelet station, which we did not take advantage of, however great it looked and smelled. There just was not enough room to fit in everything I wanted. Loved the waffles and other sweets on the table. And everything was just $20/ person! Our waitress (Ashley?) was friendly and helpful and took our 10% off coupon without judgment. They were able to seat us right away, around 11:00, even though we did not have reservations. Luckily the place did not fill up until shortly after we arrived. Parking was a breeze, as there are free spaces right in the shopping center. The restaurant was conveniently located in New Town, a short drive away from Colonial Williamsburg.

Definitely a wonderful restaurant for a special occasion! The food was incredible, the service friendly and considerate. The restaurant is set up with separate dining areas to make the experience very intimate. We enjoyed it so much that we went for dinner twice during our vacation to Colonial Williamsburg! Price was comparable for the upscale gourmet dinners we were served so eloquently by gentlemen with Southern charm.
(5)Arianna P.
nice ambiance compared to the rather casual, low-key restaurants that dominate the rest of Williamsburg.
(3)Matthew L.
Sophisticated and urban chic. Definately rare for Williamsburg. Dinner is extremely pricey, however the lunch menu is an excellent value. I had the petit sirloin plate with sauted vegetables and garlic mashed potatoes. Delicious, perfectly flavored and just the perfect portions. The waiters are professional and attentive. Definately a place to impress.

I was really excited to visit this place for my anniversary after reading the reviews but was disappointed with the quality of the food overall. I expected the best steak of my life given the outrageous prices, but sadly much was left to be desired. The food looked amazing but the taste was only OK. Nothing to write home about. Service was great and ambiance was nice overall, but the food didn't live up to the expectations for the price being charged.
(2)John M.
Best steak in town. This isn't the owners first rodeo and the restaurant is well done...Steaks are fantastic and wine is solid.. Prices reflect the quality. TIP: Great lunch menu for under $10 an entree. Don't hesitate and enjoy!!

Stupendous service, generous serving sizes and a beautiful setting. Reservations will get you seated quicker.

We wanted good steak, and found it here at Opus 9! As another reviewer mentioned, the atmosphere is very nice. We had a party of 6, and enjoyed a semi-private table. The service was spotty - at times attentive, but other times we struggled to get our waiter's attention, and a side item was forgotten. The steaks were wonderful! In all, we ordered filet mignon and ribeyes, 'regular' (without sauce or extra seasoning). They were served on scorching hot platters with some drawn butter. I had a 16 oz. ribeye which I was concerned about finishing, but it was so good I couldn't leave any behind. Rather than loading the meat with spices to give it flavor, the meat was very lightly seasoned (I added some salt to mine) to allow the beef flavor to shine. This was one of the best ribeye steaks I've ever had. There was just enough fat within the meat unlike other steaks I've had where it seems a quarter of the steak is fat. Everyone loved (and finished) their meal, and thought it was worth it, even considering the small filet was over $30.00. If you're in Williamsburg and looking for a great steak, get a little dressed up and make a special evening out of it at Opus 9!
(4)Neha G.
The services is fantastic and the steaks are definitely amazing - but its guaranteed that you're paying for it. An 8oz fillet is about $33 with a side. The salads are a decent size, and the crab meat is pretty amazing. I also tried the bananas foster cheesecake ($10.50) which was absolutely delicious! I had a great experience here and loved getting dressed up to go. Its a great date spot and I might go again - if I feel like emptying out my wallet.

Fresh, quality food in a beautiful setting and friendly staff. The dinner menu is a bit pricey, but sure to impress. I opt for the lunch menu, since the food is just as good for a lot less money. I love the Mozart and Beethoven burgers. In fact, I'm so hung up on these, that I need to explore more of the menu. The cheesecake is one one of the best I've ever had; so smooth and creamy. The decor is classy and elegant, but not too intimidating to dress down for lunch. I hope to visit for brunch soon... *************UPDATE**************** Since my initial review, I have been back to Opus 9 for brunch and for dinner, and was thoroughly impressed by both experiences. I find that whether you are dining for a $10 lunch or a $40 a plate dinner, you get the same top notch attention and service.
(5)Jenna D.
We were visiting Williamsburg, and had a great dinner here. The atmosphere and service were great. It is slightly pricey but we were pleasantly surprised by good steaks and solid sides, typical of steakhouse options.
(4)Terri R.
Pricey restaurant with personable service and incredibly fresh, tasty food. This is the PERFECT place to take a date to impress. I enjoyed their crabcake (zero filler) dinner and was very impressed. The drinks were "okay" but I remember our waiter telling us that the bartender was new. We probably would have ordered another round had the drinks been better. The men in our group thought the flashlight bit to make sure their steaks were cooked to perfection was cheesy, but I thought it was a nice, classy touch. (It is very dark in there - another good reason for a date place [smile].) Portions are extremely fair.

(3)Sam B.

I go just to see the piano! Great food and service!

(5)Nicole W.

(4)Frank V.
Incredible! Great food.
(5)AM K.
This is by far one of the greatest steak houses in the country! We both had the filet as it was the special that night, and enjoyed a half price bottle of wine that our server recommended to us! We will be going back in a couple of weeks when we go back to Williamsburg.

(5)Barbara E.
(5)Josh P.
(5)Lori C.
(5)Jeffrey S.
(4)Sheena C.
(5)Suzanne Dana, Realtor C.

I took my wife here for our anniversary and I could not have been happier with the selection. They treated us great and the food was out of this world along with the service would recommend to anyone.

How steak should be served: in a low key setting, cooked to perfection, accompanied by potatoes to die for. I can usually resist the bread basket, not here! They had me at "honey butter". Pricey. Worth it. We will return.

Impressive!
(5)Robyn D.
Excellent service and food but is a little pricey. The filet oscar was cooked perfectly. Be ready to spend.

(3)Pinkie J.

(4)L P.

(4)ASHLEY M.

(4)Lynda C.
(5)Janet D.
Thank you

(5)Stephen S.
(4)Alex B.
(3)Kristina N.
(4)Stephanie I.

Thumbs up!!

The food is good, but not worth the price. Don't order wine unless you want to pay $10 a glass for an eyedropper of wine!

Lunch was delicious, the fish and crab were outstanding great atmosphere great service. Very reasonably priced for lunch. Be anything I did not like was that the entrance to the bathroom was real close to another table

White tablecloths, excellent food and service. Best steak I've had in Williamsburg. Be sure to order carefully, steaks here are not overcooked! When you make a reservation for a special occasion, be sure to let them know - they make sure to make a big deal!

i so want to like this place since it is where a lot of people go and say is awesome and it is in my home town. and in wiliamsburg there are few places to get good food. so i went here and wasn't very impressed.

Lunch today. Beef Bourignon was not the dish to get today. Mashed potatoes were cold. They took them back but came back still not very warm. Garlic was a little over the top. Beef was very grisly. Service was great but my meal was not.

One of the best steak houses I've ever been to! The food was amazing!I got the snapper but other people at my table got steak. Everyone really enjoyed the meal. The martini's were also delicious. We celebrated my friends birthday. They did a great job!

Absolutely outstanding. Worth every penny. The food was extraordinary and service was incredible. A must for my wife and I when we return to Williamsburg. Highest recommendation.

I visited Opus 9 recently for happy hour and was so impressed with their deals. I got a glass of when for only $5 and it was a huge glass. I ended up ordering food and split the seafood nachos with 3 other people & we still couldn't finish our meal! Delicious!

Heed well, travelers and locals alike: happy hour here is amazing, because you can get the marvelous food and drinks on discount. It's crowded, but it's worth it. Go. Go now.

Regardless of the situation, there is no excuse for rudeness or arrogance. I was not treated as a valued regular customer and you continue to demonstrate a misunderstanding of my complaint!

The steaks were mediocre (not to mention overpriced) and the drinks were poorly made and grossly overpriced. I would not go back nor would I recommend wasting your money. I am happy to pay good money for good food, but for this price/quality, you should choose another good steakhouse or save some money and go to outback.
