Fantastic farm to table restaurant! My mother and I found this place by searching online and reading reviews. Short 20 min drive from the river/Montross area. Wait staff were friendly and responsive, food superb! Beef tenderloin melted in your mouth! Wonderful diverse menu that changes weekly. Be prepared to arrive early or make a reservation. This place is definitely worth it and we'll come again!!

I have been a few times now so I thought I would update my review. The service is always slow here. That is consistent. Don't go when you are in a hurry. Food is always very good. Last night we tried the fried green tomatoes and they were very good. I highly recommend them. One of our favorite apps so far. Crab on Crab on Crab was my entree. Third or top layer of crab was not my favorite....Lump crab was tasty but served cold on layers of hot soft shell crab and crab cake and jasmine rice. All delicious but odd to have cold lump crab on top. Overall very good though. Steak Masala Fettucini was delicious and oysters on grits were a usual good choice this evening. Too full for dessert as usual. We will be back I am sure.

I would strongly suggest NOT meeting a blind date at Relish. Be sure you are in good company for dinner because you will be spending some quality time with them. Thankfully I came with family and we enjoyed the hour and twenty minutes we waited for our food together. The service was inattentive and the prices were astronomical. However, the food was tasty and unique. Unexpected and interesting flavor combinations, beautiful displays, but maybe not so worthwhile for the cost. Oddly enough, the pimento cheese was my favorite part of the meal.

We stopped here one Sunday night for dinner after what seemed to be a long weekend at the River. We'd heard great things about the place, and decided the short dive was worth it this time. We did make a reservation, and good thing we did, as the place was packed! The food was great. 5 Stars. I had the rock fish, and it was perfectly cooked. I would certainly order it again. The others at the table certainly enjoyed their meal as well. My only complaint is that it did take over an hour to get our food. The servers were extremely busy (actually running in the restaurant). I'm not sure if they were understaffed or what, but it did bring it down a star. Overall, I'll be back. I want to try the local salami they serve, as well as some of their extensive wine list.

In Tappahannock just across the river about 12 minutes for a family gathering--this place used to be there, but moved to Warsaw (so don't get confused), and well worth the short drive. They make a real effort to focus on what's fresh and local, so the menu varies a bit (they only have softshell crabs some nights-so check if your heart is set on them). We started with 3 appetizers to split--the crab tower, the oyster po' boy bites, and the fried green tomatoes. Oysters and crab are local in this area, and for me, the oyster bites were particularly terrific--though the crab tower had nice lumps of real backfin blue crab (just can't find that anywhere any more--or it's all from Thailand or a different kind of crab--this was sweet and fresh as it should be), and the tomatoes were crisp, tart, and not over-breaded. I could have happily eaten the oysters and crab all alone, but it was all nicely balanced w/o overwhelming the flavors. For mains, I had the scallops which were good--not overcooked but 'seared' here meant actually crunchy and the risotto was a bit more al dente than I really like--others in my party had the crab cake (excellent and mostly crab) and a tuna special that was quite good. Dessert was an excellent individual sized blackberry cobbler---we all had one and it was a good thing so we didn't fight over it! They were offering a special martini--grapefrut, elderflower--and it was lovely--crisp, sweet but not cloying, and came w/a little extra that didn't find the the glass. Good wines and they also sell by the bottle--so we picked up one to take back to the hotel for later. They also have a selection of interesting and unusual or local beers--not just the usual big chains--and you can take those out as well. Good service--friendly and generally efficient and not always interrupting. The feel is clean, modern with a little country house look--not dressy but also catering to people who care about food. Definitely a find in the area! They website isn't currently working, but you can find good updated info on facebook--so check there.

We dined last night at Relish. Megan was our server, very delightful. The meal, shrimp and grits was yummy! The cheese was grated and slightly melted atop the grits which I prefer over cheesy grits. Although the dish was somewhat rich, I wasn't stuffed afterwards. There was sufficient room for dessert which was slightly disappointing, the serving size was really appropriate for one. It was "date night," what a fantastic deal. Two entrees, a bottle of wine and one dessert to share...we will be back.

What a great local restaurant! Discovered this place last weekend when in the area for a triathlon. The restaurant decor, service and food were excellent. Typically, you'd find this type of attention to detail and locally sourced food in a fancy city restaurant. We had the Pimm's cocktail with fresh mint and cucumbers (can't wait to try that at home), fried green tomato appetizer, and two entrees - lightly pan-fried soft shell crabs with grits and pickled watermelon salad, and broiled scallops in a coconut curry sauce. YUM! I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who lives in the area or is visiting from out of town.

We came for a birthday dinner and were not disappointed. There was a special for a couples dinner with two entrees, bottle of wine and one dessert to share. We had a wonderful add on appetizer of fried fresh oysters then ordered soft shell crabs and crab cakes (slight up charge). All the food was fresh, wonderfully presented and tasty. Service was quick and pleasant. Definitely a nice local spot.
