So good, every time! Word on the street is Zeke's sources the highest quality sushi-grade fish in the region -- you can totally taste the high quality. My boyfriend and I love to split the large "K Special" poke bowl.

Ordered a large OG poke bowl with white rice. Overall the taste was 3/5 or simply eh. The poke was nothing special. Tastes simply of sesame oil with no soy sauce or ponzu. Service was average. Nice self serve cucumber water. If you are looking for a place to study and to hangout with hipsters then Zeke's is the spot. 1 star off for tip option only ranging from 20% upwards for a to-go bowl 1 star off for price point (large poke bowl + white rice =$17). You can go to Costco and purchase twice as much.

I had no idea what this place was. So many times I drove by I thought it was a Mexican place. Zekes has delicious Ahi tuna and great coffee. I will be coming back. Amazing food.

Why is this place so far from where I live? I can live off of everything on their awesome menu. Everything was so nutritious and the stuff I got off their menu was so tasty and I could taste the natural ingredients they use for their food! I ordered a small spicy tuna bowl with out rice and a piña colada. The spicy tuna roll was pretty spicy and it had a lot of flavor! They substituted the rice with more cucumbers and the whole thing was sprinkled with a crunchy wasabi pea dusting. I added avocados for 2 dollars, which I thought were a little pricy for like four slices of avocado. This was pretty spicy and I can't really eat spicy stuff, so maybe next time I will try their pineapple and tuna bowl. Their piña colada was not sweet at all. It tasted like real coconut juice with a tiny bit of sweetening and it had real coconut flakes in it! If you're looking for a sweet piña colada, this is not for you... Their decor is eclectic. They have mismatch furniture and random items in their store. It's a nice place to sit and lounge with your friends.

So my parents just recently relocated to Virginia Beach. It was my first time visiting them so of course I had to resort to good ol' Yelp to find me some badass spots! My sister and I were craving acai bowls and Zekes was the first one to come up. When I found out they also serve poke bowl. Omg it was over. I made my dad stop what he was doing and take us. We were stationed in Hawaii for about 4 years and I fell in love with their poke and acai bowls. And honestly it's been really hard finding places that even come CLOSE to anything made in Hawaii. Ok so first of all, the shop is really cute. I love their decor, mismatching furniture, paintings and random objects hanging all throughout. Super chill and a slight hipster vibe. The guy taking our orders was cool, nice- but maybe its just me being from Los Angeles, I'm all about Yelp so I was like "I'm visiting and I heard great things about you guys on yelp!" he just kinda looked at me like I was weird for saying that... I was kinda like oh okay, lol. I'm guessing it's more of a thing over here, idk I always seem to strike up a fun convo when I tell people I heard about their location from Yelp :o) But anyways, We ended up getting two Breakfast Acai Bowls, a Spicy Poke Bowl with brown rice, and a smoothie (I can't remember what flavor my dad just created his own) Everything was amazing! The fruit on the acai bowls were fresh and perfect, a little runnier than I like it but still great! Now the Poke bowl is where I fell in love with this place. It was super and I mean SUPER spicy (sriracha, wasabi, crushed red pepper- hi hello) but surprisingly it wasn't overpowering, it was so flavorful, definitely high quality. Make sure you grab some water because it is a nose runner. IT was only $10 for a small, but it was pretty big! The three of us shared it just fine, but honestly next time I'll get a large just for myself. Hehe! And just for that dish I will be back next time I visit! Free wifi!

Was on the hunt for something local, healthy, and new yesterday while my Texas friend was in town for a girl's weekend. I've seen Zeke's on Yelp a few times and was intrigued by these Poke bowls. After showing her the menu and some photos we decided to give it a try. It's easy to find with a good amount of street and rear parking so we didn't have any issues there. Once inside the place is all charm. There are random objects and antiques and art gracing the walls - the furniture is worn and comfy and mismatched. There is a ton of seating along the windows which have a wrap around bar. The guy behind the counter was very friendly and helpful - I told him we were Zeke's "virgins" and he easily and happily answered all our questions. I went with the Kale salad and added some tofu since they were out of avocado. It comes with a healthy serving size of kale, sliced cucumbers, carrots, sesame seeds, sesame oil, shay, pickled ginger (yum), almonds and brown rice. I added the OG Poke tuna. It was delicious. Very filling. My friend ordered the Southwest Poke bowl. Tuna, cilantro, jalapeño, sweet onion, green onion, cumin, mild chipotle and pineapple with brown rice. She really liked hers as well. If I hadn't already had a fruity drink earlier I'd have gotten the Watermelon Juice because I wanted it REALLY bad. Next time! Great food - good service - and great atmosphere. I want to try a few of their sandwiches. I'll be back for sure.

So INCREDIBLY disappointed with this location. I am an extreme Zeke's Norfolk fan and was in the beach area at lunchtime so I thought I would try their Virginia Beach location. First off, the guy taking the orders needed us to repeat our order several times. I'm an easy going girl and this did not bother me until the orders came. They were incorrect. Very incorrect. When dining with individuals that have food allergies and food preferences it's important for a restaurant to get these correct. The vegetarian was given chicken and was told it was tofu. The individual that ordered spinach and cucumber got lettuce and carrots. I was given the crab and tuna. My shellfish allergy was very glad that I caught the mistake. I get the whole buyer beware thing but there should be a little responsibility in service. Now for the food. How can one make poke salad bland? Like how exactly is that even possible? It's like ordering hot chocolate and only being given warm milk. Clearly the girl that ordered the tofu did not eat hers. So that was clearly a waste. The chicken got passed off to the girl that ordered it. She claimed that it was so bland she couldn't tell the difference between the tofu and chicken. We won't be back.

I ordered the "breakfast bowl" which looked really healthy with strawberries, blueberries and bananas on top of granola and frozen acai. With a cup of amazing coffee, it was quite tasty. My only complaint (and it's only because I'm old) is that the combination of hot coffee and frozen puree was a bit jarring and hurt my fillings. Therefore, I'd suggest that you go with the iced coffee. Really neat vibe going on here with the art and the surfboards.

Love, love , love this place. I got the acai bowl and hubby got the sweet and spicy poke. Both were amazing. He got the costa pour over and loved it. I had a green juice and it was fresh and delish! If you are in the area you won't regret coming here. We will be back for sure!!

The first time that I had a poke was in Santa Monica and it was mind blowing. I was looking for coffee and this shop came up. After browsing through the pics and reviews, it seemed like the poke was the rave so I had to try it. I got the OG poke and was disappointed. There was not too much flavor to it and what flavor it did have didn't was not mixed well together. If the tuna was fresh, it probably would have compensated for the rest of the dish, but alas, that was not the case. The price was not prohibitive considering the size which was a small pint for about 13 with brown rice. Basically it's the price of ordering a special roll at a sushi restaurant. I also sat outside but expected the tables to be wiped down clean especially when it's early in the morning and there's not a crazy amount of foot traffic. Unfortunately this was not the case. I am not saying the place is unsanitary, but I expect better maintenance. I would come back to give this place a second shot but I was not impressed.

There's nothing better than a nice healthy bowl of goodness. I try my best to drag a different friend in here every month, if not more. They're always blown away! Everything they have here is better than expected! The Special Keali Bowl is a favorite but the PB&J takes the cake! I have no doubt in my mind that I could have it for every meal of the day for the rest of my life! I have a friend that lived in Hawaii for 14 years, and she didn't believe that there were good poké bowls so far away from Hawaii. Her mind was blown!! If you're looking for a little pick-me-up, be sure so snag one of the tasty pour over exotic coffees that they brew up with Three Ships Coffee and some fruit! It seems like they cycle through them so there's something new to try on your buds put that pep in your step! Breakfast/lunch/dinner/brinner, whatever time of the day you feel like enjoying some awesome food, a hot cup of Joe and local art, stop in and be at peace with your mind and belly.

I just moved here from Hawaii 5 months ago. I lived there for 15 years and took the fresh poke bowls for granted. Here at Zeke's it tastes like its been frozen BUT it's the best (& only place thus far) that I've found with poke bowls. It isn't Hawaii fresh ahi but it's pretty damn good. I would definitely recommend to other people.

  • Avial L.

This place gave me the chance to try poke bowl for the first time. Tuna is expensive, and they made that clear in their pricing. Honestly, I probably wouldn't go back again because of the prices, but this place has inspired me to make my own poke bowl from now on. The atmosphere is very nice. Paintings on the wall and nice genres of music. Finding parking is pretty tough.

I have to say...after eating pokē (I just refer to it as 'ahi tuna, though I'm unsure if the tuna is yellow fin), I miss Hawaii. I really liked this joint and can't wait to try other dishes on the menu. Now it's an internal struggle when I'm in the area whether to go to Gringos for a fish taco or Zeke's for some 'ahi tuna! They are both fantastic. Or better yet...say it like a local bruddah or sista, it broke da MOUF! Kailua representin'! Now for the love of God would someone open up a Beard Papa's?!

Ordered: O.G. Poke w/ white rice (Large) , Spicy Poke w/ brown rice (Small), Strawberry Banana Smoothies, Watermelon Juice Pros: Both O.G. and Spicy Poke were good, large size was more than enough food, small size was just about enough, staff was friendly, casual dining environment. Cons: Both white n brown rice tasted like they were old/dried/hard (Growing up eating rice everyday, I know when the rice is not cooked perfectly), smoothies ($8) n the juice ($4) were good but they are still a bit pricey. Overall, will try other options on the menu next time I visit.

The Keali'i Poke Bowl was AMAZING! A friend told my husband and myself about this spot, and I'm so glad he did. I got the small portion, and it was still a lot of tuna. The seaweed salad was a delicious addition to this meal. We will absolutely be back.

I love Zeke's. It is on the expensive side definitely, but so delicious. My boyfriend and I came here one random day for lunch, and noticed the crazy and eclectic decor. Very different. I had the OG poke bowl. Amazing. I love tuna, and the flavors were amazing. My boyfriend got the spicy bowl. He said it was great too. I would have tried it, but I don't do spicy! For dessert we decided to split an acai bowl. Delicious also! The only negative - the price! For the 2 poke bowls, 1 acai bowl, and 2 watermelon juices - it was $50. Understandable because I know sushi grade tuna isn't cheap, but still, $50 for a casual, random, weekday lunch is steep. It is soo yummy though, so as much as I complain about the price, I will return.

This hip little spot is the only Hawaiian inspired venue I've eaten at on the 'Mainland'. First and foremost, the service is friendly;will leave you feeling as if you were a friend coming to visit for lunch. The ambience has a laid back and vintage-eclectic-hipster vibe with local artists being featured, a bike on the wall and plenty to keep your eyes entertained while waiting for your eats. The k poke bowl seems to be popular so I decided to order that and was content with my choice. I received a liberal amount of poke that left the perfect amount of flavor dancing on my taster buds. The rice and seaweed salad were okay but not extravagant. I took a star due to the prices being a little more than i would generally like to spend and parking was an issue. Otherwise, I would recommend trying zekes and get your hokey poke on

Didn't know what I was getting when I came here. I thought it was like a cooked food "bowl". I was delightfully wrong just for the variety in my diet and it was HOT out so the uncooked food was perfect even though caught me off guard. The spicy poke bowl was good and very spicy even after specifying mild. It was a cold bunch of veggies, uncooked protein tuna/tofu in a sauce(s) with warm rice which I assume is standard for a poke bowl. It was certainly worth trying!! I will try the acai bowls next time since living in San Diego I ate them all the time there. I will be a better judge of that. The vibe is fine but it is hard for an solidly east coast place to really embody the super chill attitude of the west and islands. But they give it a good solid shot and it's a pleasant atmosphere. Enjoy.

I've always wanted to try poke and now I can say I have! I assumed I would like it since I love sushi, and I was right. I got the O.G. poke bowl with seaweed salad and avocado with watermelon juice. The poke was marinated in a flavorful soy sauce and the tuna pieces were plentiful. The seaweed salad was slimy, yet crunchy. And the avocado added a nice creaminess to the whole meal. At first I thought the portion was small, but as I ate it, it was quite filling! I didn't even finish the whole thing! And the watermelon juice really complimented the meal, because it was refreshing and tasted great! The only thing that wasn't great, was the price. But the taste of the food will keep me coming back for more whenever I go to Virginia Beach.

Let me preface this by saying my husband and I are sushi fanatics and have had a difficult time finding qualitative restaurants that serve sashimi grade fish. We had never had poke before and let me tell you, it's superb. Think of it like deconstructed, Hawaiian sushi. Zeke's is on point. Period. The hubs and I split the large sweet and spicy poke bowl. This contained raw tuna, pineapple, crushed red pepper, seaweed and rice. It was sprinkled with sesame seeds and thin slices of green onion. (Nom nom!) The fish was the perfect temperature and the dish overall was bright, fresh, and tropical; it was fitting for the warm sunny day during which we visited. The feel of the place is super hipster. There's mismatched furniture, old classic books to read, and chalk writing all over the bathroom walls. It's a place you can fall into after baking in the sun on the beach or a spot to study, create, or chat with someone you know or maybe that you don't. Zeke's also brews coffee; amazing coffee. In the words of my coffee-obsessed husband while drinking a freshly brewed cup, "Oh my GOD! This is the best cup of coffee I have ever had!" I consider him a professional coffee drinker and therefore took this statement very seriously. To top it off, it's local. Like, a stone's throw from Zeke's local: Three Ships Coffee! Grab a friend and go. Right now. They have plenty of options in case you're scared of raw fish, too, so no excuses!

Love this place! Staff was very friendly. We ordered the kspecial poke and spicy poke. We're already planning on going back tomorrow for lunch! Parking was also a little bit annoying but we got lucky and found one right next to the building. Make sure you try the acai breakfast bowl as well

Zeke's goes above and beyond on every single aspect of a restaurant. I recommend this place to everyone. You will not be disappointed! Most importantly, their food, whether it be every single poke or acai bowl, is always consistently fresh and delicious! Food comes out fast and is brought to you. $5 for a "small" filled-to-the-brim acai bowl that's more than enough to fill me up makes me very happy. Their tuna is top quality and just so tender and flavorful. Also, they serve Three Ships Coffee which is made fresh to order and tastes good black. The icing on the cake is the amazing customer service. Every single worker has always been very helpful and friendly towards me on every visit. The warm welcome feeling of both the Norfolk and Virginia beach location compels me to go back time and time again! Perfect to go alone or with a few friends. Limited parking and small cozy space but has never been a problem. Honestly, no cons at all.

If you're looking for a quick bite that packs a ton of flavor, you've come to the right place. I ordered the spicy poke bowl. A small was plenty for me but a large is much bigger for just a couple of bucks more. The spicy bowl was one of the spiciest things I've ever eaten so you may want to ask for less spice. Nevertheless, the flavor was amazing and was sort of like eating an inside-out sushi roll. Yum yum yum! To note: The front entrance is not accessible for wheelchairs, but the staff graciously let my friend and I in through an alternate door. Very nice.

My fav spot before heading to the beach! They have great selections of poke and acai bowls. I have yet to try the acai bowls because I always get poke. But I'll def have to try them soon! Also, they have the best juices - especially the watermelon juice!

Zeke's is now my favorite lunch spot in Ghent. They make a great tuna poke bowl unlike any others in the area. I hope they will expand their juice menu. And I really appreciate the fact that they take phone orders and always have my food ready for pickup. This place rocks!

Hidden away from the strip and serving unique fare you will not find elsewhere in Virginia Beach, Zeke's is the hipster hangout for coffee, espresso, and very large bowls of both acai and raw tuna. All are pretty well-done, but come with a rather steep price tag that makes sharing essential, unless you're really hungry. I was drawn in by the pour-over coffee. Double bonus that they primarily use Intelligentsia brand beans. This brewing method, when done well, brings out the taste of the coffee bean and its place of origin much like a fine wine. Still, you'll pay a bit more for this very individualized brewing method, and Zeke's takes that to an extreme, at sometimes $5-6 a piece for a large brew cup. They also do espresso drinks and cappuccinos, also on the high side of the expected price point. My particular pour over was decently good, but it lacked the full flavor profile I'm used to with this method of brewing. Not sure if it was the beans or the barista. Still better than a usual brewed pot of coffee. My wife did enjoy her mocha, however, and found it to have plenty of dark chocolate flavor. We also split the PB&J acai bowl. Have to say, this was more of a hit than the coffee. An almost frozen custard-like base of acai blended into almond milk and topped with a crunchy granola and then fresh fruit, to include balanas, strawberries, and blue berries. I felt healthier just digging into the first bite. And what a bite it was- flavorful and fresh with plenty of crunch to contrast with the smooth creaminess of the base. The bowl was easily big enough to share, making the $9 pice tag a bit more bearable. I'd definitely have this again. The space is bright and open but with mis-matched furniture that ranges from patio-style tables and chairs to a couple of couches that look straight out of the 1970s. There is currently some very bright and humorous local art on the walls and a nostalgic cabinet of old camera and sound equipment. Look for the typewriter in the back corner, or old nintendo machine too. Think vintage thrift store in a very curated format. Combined with a continuous soundtrack of laid-back house music, and you've got a spot that just begs for hanging out. The outside of this shop totally belies what's going on inside. Zeke's is unique in its offerings, and is definitely outside the typical menu you'll find elsewhere on the oceanfront. It's worth seeking out, however, especially if you have a friend or two to share some of the good eats coming out of here. The name is spot-on, but for me the bowls here reign supreme over their beans.

I've been wanting to check this place out since it opened and my friends and I finally took an adventure from northern va to VB. The place is tucked away in the local zone of Virginia Beach. It's cute. We were greeted by the guy behind the counter where he offered our group of 4, ONE menu. I'm all for sharing is caring, but that was weird. I decided to order a large bowl to share. I opted to have it over seaweed salad. My cashier persuaded me to order a juice, I was glad I did. But the juice was unfortunately the only thing I enjoyed- strawberry/pear/mint. My cashier have me back the wrong change, twice. So this is why I feel obligated to give my two cents. He ended up shorting me $2, nbd. But I would suggest moving him from the front since he have 4 people one menu to share. My water had a bunch of black chunks at the bottom of it...

The acai bowl was a real disappointment. The actual acai portion of it was real watered down and tasted it too.. The k-special poke was good, but 16$ for the large size was too expensive in my opinion. Next time I'm in town I'll have to pass.

  • Hanna W.

This place was recommended to my husband and I from our friends. I ordered the large K-special w/ brown rice and my husband ordered the tuna sandwich (he does not like raw fish). We also ordered the strawberry-pear-mint juice and pear-apple juice. Good thing I ordered the large because my husband ate more than half of my bowl. This is a must try for anyone who loves sushi!! The juices were fresh and delicious. They were so good we ordered two more to go (strawberry-pear-mint & pear-cantaloupe)- both were gone before we got on the highway.

Love the acai bowls here! I've never had one before and tried my first here and was blown away. I got the recommended peanut butter one, it was just the right amount of everything with a hint of peanut butter. I also had a poke bowl, the spicy one. It was good, but was overly salty. The tuna tasted fresh and was cut into generous large pieces. Next time, I will have to probably add brown rice or avocado to balance out the salt.

Good acai bowl and great coffee. I tried the large bowl, but should have gone with a small. It was huge. Their pour over coffee was perfectly executed and tasted amazing. Same with the latte I ordered. Thanks to the wonderful barista who gave the latte a personal touch.

I luh this place - Luh everything about it. Chill vibes, cool hipster decor, the best Poke (the best menu, really) and the best location (Back Bay brewery next door, Gringo's across the street). Local artists' work is showcased and everything here is made with the utmost passion. Did I mention the poke is swoon-worthy? Try it!

I got the OG Poke (if you don't know, Poke is a fancy word for sushi grade tuna) bowl and it was God-damn good! The tuna chunks were nice and thick and super fresh. The avocado was a perfect add-in to make it a filling lunch, presented on top of white rice. This is a wonderful off-beach lunch spot and was not crowded at all. Totally worth the short trip to it.

Went in and had a quick morning bite. I loved my spicy tuna bowl, it had a serious kick, but my companion had the sweet and spicy bowl and thought it was just a tad bit too spicy rather than a balance of the two. But the seafood was fresh and the atmosphere was good. 5 stars if that sweet and spicy bowl was right on the money. Otherwise a great place for a quick meal.

I came in after biking around for some lunch. I ordered a small OG poke. To my surprise my Oder was taking too long, which I didn't notice because I was so busy playing on my phone. The assuming owner came out and gave his apologizes for my order for taking too long so he bumped my order up to a large. I can really appreciate the fact that they corrected a problem even though I didn't even realize there was one. Be aware of the "large" size poke is portion for someone with a big appetite! They have also recently added a few items since my last visit. They now serve panini.

Accidental bliss! We accidentally arrived at this awesome little shop because the address for Three Ships Coffee was showing its address was on the street somewhere. Turns out that this shop carries their coffee and beans. Cool. The experience here was just great. Unique little coffee shop with an old record player letting out Elton John tunes, art on the walls, old cameras up on the running shelves, with a whole eclectic vibe going on. The coffee was good. We had two different kinds, one was with Three Ships beans and one was the house beans of some sort. We had both black. To our surprise the shop also served acai bowls and poki! Seriously! It was super cool to see! Coffee, acai bowls, and poki all in one place? I'm there!! Even though we didn't get to try the poki, I'm still there! The acai bowl was okay. Definitely not Hawaii or anything close, but it was decent. It looked like every other person was ordering the poki bowl. The crowd had just started to show up so it took a long time to receive our coffee but it wasn't a big deal because we were just chillin'. Super friendly barista too! Looking forward to dropping by once more before leaving town. Definitely recommend this little place!! $20

We followed a tip from our son in Hawaii that Zeke's had poke bowls and we were not disappointed. the Spicy Poke Bowl along with the Kale Salad were superb. This will definitely be at the top of our "go to" list for terrific food and a perfect laid back eclectic feel. Highly recommended.

I decided to stop by here for my lunch break because I was at the Convention Center for training earlier that morning. There isn't much parking so I had to parallel park on the side of the road (which was a big challenge for me because I'm horrible at parallel parking, but that's besides the point!). The place itself is pretty fun and different. Outside it definitely looks like a beach restaurant, and inside it's decorated with old furniture pieces and interesting photographs. There's also lots of windows so it gets excellent outside lighting. The staff was very friendly, and with recommendation, I ordered a small Keali'i Special poke bowl with rice and avocado and a watermelon juice. The poke bowl was a little spicy to me due to the Siracha, but I love the seaweed salad and the avocado with it. I also really liked the watermelon juice. It wasn't too sweet or anything, tasted as if I was just eating a watermelon! The only thing that surprised me was the price for everything. I didn't think I would pay as much as I did, but regardless, I enjoyed the experience and the food overall. I'll definitely be back here again to try an acai bowl.

Zeke's is definitely one of those hidden hot spots in the large city of Virginia Beach. It's a place you wouldn't normally see at the Beach, but perhaps in Norfolk. Very laid back atmosphere with indie alternative music playing in the background. The best part about the surroundings is the fact that it's not "trying" to be "hipster." It's just the way it is. Especially with the clearly recycled thrift store goodies like the tables and seats, the antique cameras on the shelves near the counter, and the awesome Nintendo system in the corner. There's even a booth with a typewriter. Good place to just sit and relax with a few friends. Super cozy, warm, and inviting. The food: Poke bowls are great! I had the K Special. Granted, the tuna could have been a bit fresher, the panko crumbs added texture to the slime of the seaweed salad on the bottom. I opted not getting the rice for the extra dollar. It was overall very pleasing to my taste buds, regardless of how hungry I was again a few hours later. The flavors were all there! The kicker was the super fresh mango, pineapple and orange shake that I got with my small poke bowl. Yumm! I think this place has potential. Not that there is anything wrong with the food in general, but it can definitely break the bank. We will definitely be back to try their Acai bowl.

I've been looking for a place like this since moving to Virginia from Orange County, CA. I ordered the K-Special after soliciting the recommendation of a regular in the shop. I was definitely pleased with every single bite. The dish was spicy and full of flavor. I partnered it with an order of watermelon juice. I am looking forward to more visits in the near future.

Mmmmmmmm....poke bowls. Spicy poke bowls. Words to make my fat heart sing. I've never been to Hawaii but as a California native I must admit I'm spoiled when it comes to sushi/poke bowls and the like. My buddies who love this place vouched for it an very sweetly bought some over one night. I've since been back twice. The Keali'l Special was yummy but failed to really impress me. However, I can see the Spicy Poke bowl becoming my go to. The Tofu Poke bowl is delicious and it's what I get my non-raw fish eating parasites (my kids). This place is definitely growing on me but I see a few improvements to their Poke Bowls that will take it from good to amazing. #1: Use better quality rice and season it better. #2: Use quality seaweed salad. The stuff that Zeke's uses has that dye in it that transfers to your rice leaving a very unsettling color. *crosses fingers* Zekes, are you listening? I hope so because you will take a good portion of my income if you make these little changes.

Thank god I found this place. I was excited and a bit nervous about trying the spicy poke. AMAZING! I have never felt so happy and excited about food in a long time. Virginia isn't so bad after all. I miss HI so much! I'll be coming back for more! Thank you!

Sometimes it can be really hard being vegan out of town, but places like Zeke's Beans and Bowls are lifesavers! This place was awesome! The coffee was great and the bowls extraordinary! Definitely a place we will come back to visit.

Not a bad place for being so close to the garbage on the oceanfront. Everything tasted fresh and the vibe was chill and not pushy. I felt like I could sit there all evening and write a Nobel. I think that's what the other patrons were doing. A little pricey for the area but that's what you pay for to avoid the strip malls of food.

After swimming with the dolphins in the ocean, a friend told me she wanted to take me to this dope place that she had been before, and that had been recommended to her by a vegan friend. As I walked into Zeke's I was immediately drawn to the cool ambience of this intimate little hole in the wall a couple blocks from the beach. From the chill house music playing to the colorful artwork of a boombox and 40ozs on the walls, I felt right at home being from Denver, Colorado. The set up was really cute with different types of chairs and tables scsttered throughout, not to mention the guy at the counter was super nice, welcoming and accommodating. I ordered a spicy poke bowl and if you like spicy foods, this is the choice for you! It was delicious! It had fresh tuna, shayu, sesame oil, green onion, sesame seeds, wasabi, sriracha, and crushed red pepper on a bed of white rice (brown if you prefer). I got the small size which was plenty for me (I actually didn't even finish it) and I felt great afterwards! I also had an iced coffee which didn't disappoint. I'm only in town for a week, but already want to return to Zeke's. I highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a healthy, vegetarian (if that's your style) meal, with a hip vibe and chill atmosphere.

I love acai bowls, so I was super stoked when my sister told me about this place. I had high expectations coming in after looking at all the other positive reviews also. When we got there, I thought the setup and decor were super charming. I loved it! I got even more excited about the menu. I've never really seen variations of the acai bowl. I decided to stick with what I think of as the typical acai bowl, and I tried the breakfast bowl. When I got it, I noticed right away that the strawberry slices were bruised, that the banana looked limp, and that the blueberries looked overripe. It made me not want to eat it, but I figured hey, maybe it tastes better than it looks. Long story short, it didn't. In my opinion, fresh fruit makes an acai bowl. If the fruit isn't fresh, don't serve it. And for $9 a bowl, the fruit should be fresh! Most acai bowls don't even cost that much in Hawaii. I'm on the fence about giving this place another try. My sister offered to buy me some poke if we go back, but I wonder how fresh the fish is now having discovered how fresh the fruit is...lol, My food was one star, but I give two stars for how nice and charming the place feels and also for my sister's positive experience. My sister got a Brazilian bowl and loved it. From all the other positive reviews, it might be that this experience was just a fluke. I am just not sure I want to find out. This visit made me long for an acai bowl from Family Roots Cafe in Kalihi. I'll have to visit that place when I get back.

One of my favorite lil places in Virginia Beach! Wonderful fresh ahi style tuna bowls called Poke. Served in many styles, reminiscent of Hawaii & Southern Cali. Fresh squeezed juices. I love Cantelope pear & the watermelon juices! So fresh & delicious! Interesting local coffees. Acai bowls perfect for breakfast or snacks. Accommodating hours 8am-8pm. New local artists showcased the first friday of every month. This is a locals fav!

I am a vegetarian of 6 years, and thought that Zekes would be a good place to go. I got a tofu wrap with tomato, lettuce, carrot, and cucumber. I had to repeat the order several times, and when I received my order he clearly said tofu and handed it to me. I am with friends who are not vegetarian and they ordered a chicken wrap. He mixed up the orders, making me start getting sick, and I'll eventually throw up. My friend did not notice the difference, and when she took a bite of the chicken said that it was chicken, but it was bland. I go to the one in Norfolk all the time and have never had a problem. The place is not even that crowded. I'm defiantly not coming back here again.

If you are on a health kick this place should be on your short list. Thankfully, I like Poke whether I am watching my caloric intake or not so I don't need an excuse to come here. Both my wife and I had the Spicy Poke bowl and really enjoyed them. Unless you are ravenous there is no need to order the large version with rice and avocado. I made that mistake and ended having to throw away a good bit of my rice. I was just too full to chop stick my way to the bottom. We visited in the evening so instead of their super looking coffee we opted for some fresh squeezed juices. Orange for her and carrot ginger for me. The orange was really good but the carrot juice is just so so. I liked the subtle heat from the ginger but overall I just felt it lacked something. I'll definitely do the orange next time.

Being introduced to good food I didn't even know existed doesn't happen very often. This I'd been to a couple of the other restaurants on this little strip and their little collective of awesomeness has yet to disappoint, Zeke's was no exception. Walking in, the ambiance was very much a small independent coffee shop: secondhand furniture and local art on the walls. We were greeted by a friendly face behind the counter that cheerfully walked us through their menu and an explanation of what "poke" is. We ordered the poke nachos and PB&J breakfast bowl to go. Both were perfect both in taste and portion size. Second visit was more of the same. Excited to try the coffee!

I absolutely love this place! I was looking for a place that sold poke since I had a craving for it after I had come back from Hawaii. A very friendly group of people, a retro atmosphere, and great food make this my go-to spot.

I thought this oceanfront coffee bistro was kind-of nifty. It's a pretty small place, but it wasn't really crowded when I went. The decor is definitely eclectic. All of the paintings were done by middle school students, and were all for sale. The atmosphere has a "surfier-vibe" than most coffee shops (it fits in really well at the oceanfront). As for the coffee, I thought it was decent. The wait seemed excessive for a pourover, and my coffee was alright (It seemed lighter than it should have been). It just really wasn't what I look for in a coffee shop. I am looking forward to their upcoming Granby location though!

Husband and I stopped by last night and the place is cozy featuring a local artists photography that was for sale... some surfers, mostly bmxers. Music is a little loud for such a small place but at least it was good music. The guy behind the counter was a little cold and not very welcoming. No matter as I was there for the food. I had the tuna nachos. OMG they were so good. Spicy with a touch of sweetness from the pineapple to cool it down. My husband had the spicy poke which was a little too hot for him to enjoy the poke. He scarfed it down anyway. I will definitely be back for the nachos, if not for the friendly atmosphere.

Was recommended by friends to come try this place put. First feel in love with poke bowls in Hawaii!! Came here and got the Z-Bowl Special with white rice added on. The tuna was pretty good for the quality here. The texture was a bit odd with the added crunch of panko crumbs. The seaweed salad was a thin layer between the white rice and poke. The white rice did come warm with the poke. Overall, not bad! Would recommend trying!

What's the perfect meal after a long surf session? Poke and Acai bowls from Zekes! Just kidding this stuff is good all the time. Also, they're serving up some seriously good coffee as well, so go there and grab it all.

I was taken there by a friend and it's great! The acai bowl was super good and rich. The purple color was appealing and the fruit is the on my Brazilian bowl was picked just right. The granola was good plus the coolness of the bowl complimented the spicy of the poke. My friend got the poke and I got acai so we ate off each others to balance the heat and cool sweet. I can't wait to go back out there with some more people.

The ahi poke bowls are awesome. The only place I have been that has a good acai bowl or poke bowl since moving to VB. Def recommended. Their cold brew coffee is delicious. I will say that sometimes I've ordered the brown rice with the poke bowl and it can be crunchy and not really good, but I go there enough, I've learned to ask if the rice is fresh. If it isn't I pass on it, since it's an additional charge.

Coffee has arrived in VB!! Featuring a very refined local roastary, Three Ships, and Intelligestia-pour overs, cold brew...real coffee, done right. Fun, funky coffee house vibe. Retro seating, rotating local art work. Service is always 110%. The acai bowl is a perfect healthy breakfast. Starts with a blended frozen acai base, sprinkled with granola, piled with several choices of fruit, coconut, etc so refreshing! Looking forward to returning for lunch or dinner to try the poke bowls soon!

Zeke's is a hidden gem in VA beach! If you love coffee and acai bowls it's worth a try!! I had the North Pole acai bowl and a fresh cup of Three Ships coffee (locally owned) and it was delicious! Only complaint more fruit & I like cream in my coffee.. they use whole milk/skim. Super charming and worth every bite! Can't wait for the second location in Norfolk!

Great food, great coffee, great atmosphere. The downside is the music--it's a bit of a gamble. Sometimes it's amazing, and sometimes you feel like you should be in a gay bar in the 90s. Also, if you ask for a coffee recommendation, they'll always unhesitatingly recommend the most expensive option. As it is though, it's still the best coffee place in Virginia Beach

  • Krisha B.

I had a large spicy tuna poke bowl, an açai breakfast bowl, and freshly squeezed watermelon juice. Those three things came up to $28. Very pricey, but the portions are enough to share between two people. Let me say that the breakfast bowl was awesome. It was refreshing, with the perfect balance of fruit and crunchy granola. The spicy tuna was on point as well, however, the rice was undercooked. Very grainy and almost inedible. The watermelon juice was good, too, but for me, I would rather eat watermelon than drink it. Despite being very pricy and being served undercooked rice, I would come back!

acai bowls are so much yum -- glad to see variations of toppings and fruits here. I wanted to come back again and again all day to try different flavors (and maybe I did!) iced coffee was the best I had here- but super steep price! cool spot- definitely recommend for non-dairy/vegan eaters. get those antioxidants! (would maybe be cool to see an all veg bowl offered for lunch?)

Found this place because of yelp and holy man was it awesome...I got the Special K small bowl and it was delish! I ordered a watermelon juice but he missed ringing it up. After a while I was wondering where it went...I asked the guy at the counter and he said he never rang it up but he'd take care of it..a few mins later I had a watermelon juice on the house. I will be returning regularly! Definitely worth a stop in

I really wish I lived closer to Zeke's because I'd be over there like white on rice! Absolutely dig the vibe of the place and the people there. I'll get to the point, RIDICULOUSLY fantastic tasting coffee! Try it pour over style... or don't but I seriously recommend it, brings all the delicious high notes out! The décor is anything but mediocre; it's so fun and vintage chic! Music, yes, yes and yes! This place I feel should be downtown Denver or even Ghent; Virginia Beach is very lucky to have such a unique coffee shop!

  • Mami I.

I had the spicy poke bowl and OMG!! It was so spicy that I couldn't taste anything but hot. I asked them to make it mild though. Adding the rice cost you extra $1, avocado cost you another $2. The food was good but I think it's costly for lunch. And if you want to try their coffee after the lunch, that's another $5!! I might just buy fresh tuna from whole foods or something and make my own with as much as avocados I want!!

A one of a kind place to go, in Virginia Beach. I feel like this place has needed the type of fresh food that Zeke's offers. The decor of the place is very charming and cozy. There's a couple couches and bar seating along the windows. Zeke's has tuna poke bowls, house coffee brewed coffee, and acai bowls as well. I had a large Keali'i Special bowl and shared with my girlfriend. It was way more than what I expected, and we shouldn't even finish it. It was a nice, fresh meal, but wasn't a mind-blowing experience. It was good, but I didn't find myself craving it again after leaving. That day, they had watermelon juice. I'm personally not a fan of watermelon, but my girlfriend had it. It was super sweet to me, but my girlfriend loved it. It's a place that I'd come back to, but only if someone I'm with hasn't been yet. Maybe poke just isn't my style.

If you're from Hawai'i, then you'll be disappointed with their spicy poke and rice. It's delicious but doesn't quite hit the spot. Super expensive too. Their acai bowls are okay, but they add ice (super weird!!) and they don't make them with soy milk. While its good, being someone raised on authentic Lani Kai juice and poke, it's not worth the 18 dollars I'll spend on just myself.

I have eaten at Zekes numerous times and must say the pour over coffee service is awesome. The different type of food served is great too. Intelligentsia brand coffee and Three Ships brand coffee were certainly tasty but the food is out of this world! It is Acai bowls and poke! Acai is basically a berry they blend then pour granola and fruit overtop. The poke even better. Raw sashimi grade tuna served Hawaiian style, so ONO! That means good!

Five times I have tried to eat here. Five. Every single time they are out of one of the things I my order but don't tell me until AFTER I paid. I am giving 3 stars because the tuna was yummy, even if the pieces were inconsistent. First time I tried, out of white rice (which is an up-charge) and they offered brown rice as a substitute- which I didn't want since I paid for white rice but I tried it. Brown rice is too hard. Won't be getting that again. Second time, ran out of tuna (I was notified before I rang up). Third time, out of bananas, was offered a substitute since I already paid, was OK. Fourth time, out of white rice. Was notified after I paid and offered brown. I said no thanks and she came out with a dish that was made on accident that had white rice, I took it but it must have been sitting because the bottom of the rice was hard. The fifth and last time was tonight. I ordered two O.G. Poke bowls and I was told no white rice after I had paid. I just asked for a refund. No thanks, Zekes's. I don't care how much praise you get at this point, I won't be wasting my time.

One word for this place: Obsessed! This place is a-MAZE-ing! I have already been here 3 times since writing this review. I first heard of this place from a friend that wanted to go here for their Acai bowls but was intrigue with their Poke bowls on their menu online. When we arrived it was a very small unassuming place with trendy art work on the walls and thrift store style furniture as seating. As with any place, do not judge a book by its cover since this place is very different than the usual restaurant. I ordered the Keali'I special which are pieces of raw tuna chunks with brown rice and seaweed. The tuna were covered in panko breadcrumbs and siracha which added a nice kick to the dish. After eating every little morsel, I also enjoyed a watermelon and cucumber salad which added a nice crisp freshness to end the meal. They also serve coffee and juices but will be trying that the next time for dinner. Zeke's is located right next to Back Bay Brewing Company which makes for a very nice evening!

Ever been full but just couldn't stop eating! That's what happens at Zeke's! The food is tastey and flavorful! But it doesn't stop there. The coffee, atmosphere and customer service will keep you coming back for more as well.

Wow this is a great little place. We stopped in for a late lunch on a Friday. We got the Brazil Bowel and the special poke and to drink a carrot juice and a watermelon juice. The poke and the bowel we really good, lots of flavor and very satisfying. The juices were very refreshing. The place I would describe as funky casual, nice big couches and chairs for hanging out and talking, great background music, the store is clean and bright and the service is laid back and casual yet professional. This is a great little place when you want to try something new or different or looking for a new hang out. I will definitely be going back for more.

Heard nothing but good things about this place from friends and had seen some pictures of some of the bowls and they looked awesome! My roommate and I were in search of a quick lunch on a Saturday afternoon and passed by zekes deciding to give it a go. We had no idea what to expect and we are both a little on the picky side when it comes to food. At first glance of the menu we looked at each other skeptically, thinking we were not going to like ANYTHING. Thankfully to our surprise that was not the case at all! I ordered the pb&j bowl and it was delicious! It was creamy with peanut butter and lots of yummy fresh fruit and granola! Even after tasting it I was still a little annoyed that it was $9 and I knew I would just be hungry again in an hour. Not the case! The bowl filled me up until dinner without that gross bloated feeling! My roommate ordered the spicy poke bowl, I did not try it but he said if he went back to zekes it would be just for that dish! All in all I say try this place out! I guess the I my negative thing we had to say was how expensive the coffee was, but they do make each cup from fresh coffee beans.

Been here a couple of times now and each time the food has been awesome. It is a little on the pricey side which is why I didn't give this place the full 5 stars. On the flip side, I am willing to pay more for good quality food which this place seems to have...I just can't eat it as much as I would like to!

drove by it on the way to the aquarium, was curious about the name so we of course yelped it. POKE!!!!! it was a plan to return for a late lunch. The staff was awesome and the space cozy and eclectic with excellent music!

We just moved back to VA a few months ago from Hawaii and were searching for poke since it is one of the things that my husband truly missed. We heard about Zeke's and so we decided to give it a try. When we arrived, we were pleasantly surprised that they also had Acai bowls, which I love! He browsed the menu and saw spicy tuna poke bowl and asked how spicy he could get it. Mind you, my husband is not a normal person when it comes to spiciness. If it is spicy to normal people, it is bland to him. He loves it ghost pepper hot. So when the lady behind the counter said how hot do you want it, he replied with as hot as I can get it. This is his response every time he is asked that question. Minutes later, the chef came out and asked "when you say as hot as you can get it, are you serious? Because I have some ghost peppers back there and I think I have even hotter as well." My husband was ecstatic! He said "as hot as you can make it!" So the chef did and it was! My husband is usually disappointed when restaurants bring out what they claim to be spicy but Zeke's did not disappoint! My husband was thrilled that it was super spicy and that it was delicious! He said it tasted amazing, from the rice to the tuna! As for the Acai bowl, I order the North Pole bowl which was awesome as well, very light, fresh, just overall satisfying! Thanks Zeke's, you always please when we come by and we will always return for more!

I've been wanting to try Zeke's for a few weeks now and the opportunity finally presented itself today. The good: This is an amazing concept. The poke has agreat flavor and their fresh pressed juices are wonderful (and priced really well!). The bad: As soon as we walked in, I wanted to head out. The restaurant smells musty and old, it's unpleasant. Zeke's also really needs to work on how they clean the juicer between drinks. My first visit, the juice was awesome. Second visit, they made a green juice prior to my orange juice. I couldn't taste the orange, the green juice (sort of a sweet relish taste) was all I got in addition to green floaties in the drink. The other issue was with the poke. It was great, but a little more care needs to be taken while trimming the fish. I had three bad bites. The rice was also undercooked, so there are a few areas for improvement. Overall, worth a try.

I love coffee and acai bowls!!! Yum. Great ambiance, art and love the music playing. Nick is super friendly and has done a great job with his creativity in making this place unique. Its exactly what VB needs!!! : ) The only reason for the 4 stars instead of 5 is due to the fact I was seriously craving a vanilla latte that morning. They do not have syrup? Oh well. Great job on your quality coffee though. High five.

Had to try this place when friends said it reminded them of their recent trip to Hawaii! My mom and I went in for a light dinner. I had the Spicy Poke with avocado and she had the Keali'i Special with brown rice. We both got the small size, but hers was more filling with the brown rice. The poke was fresh and tasty, but was a bit too spicy for my taste. I had to add a side of seaweed salad to offset some of the spiciness. I also had the watermelon juice, which was absolutely delightful! My mom had the carrot ginger juice, which she liked, but it was not my cup of tea. Next time I want to try their Acai Bowls and exotic coffee. Definitely a place worth checking out!

My boyfriend lives nearby and we have passed by many times so we decided to finally try it. I had my first ever acai bowl here and it was delish! It is definitely a hipster place; you feel like you are in someone's living room, great coffee table books and magazines, interesting local art. The coffee was good, but had a very distinct flavor. I'm still not sure I liked it, but everything was great so I will definitely be back.

I heard about this place from my esthetician who works right next door to Zeke's. I had mentioned how much I love ahi tuna type dishes and she recommended this place. I remember driving up to the place...it's nothing fancy from the outside but once you get indoors it is as everyone says quite charming. I went with my sister who ordered the Spicy Poke and I ordered the Keali'l Special, both were large. In a nutshell poke is a raw served salad Hawaiian styled and I had never heard of this before. I sampled her bowl and loved it, also both of our orders came with brown rice for only a dollar extra. My bowl was good too but I preferred the spicier taste of the Spicy Bowl ( hence the name :p). They have plenty of yummy options for add-on and they aren't that expensive to ask for, I added avocados which were fresh! As I read the other reviews most people will comment on their prices which can be pricey but you really get your portions worth and it is yummy. It was quite spacious for a small place and had a nice flow of what appeared to be regulars just grabbing lunch for the day. The decor is cute, they had a lot of eclectic art pieces and older furniture. It does look like a place that should be in Norfolk because of the hippy-ish ambiance but the people in the establishment were pretty nice- not snobby. They also had a old nintendo which was awesome! I would definitely hit this place up next time I visit the oceanfront. I would like to try their fresh fruit bowls and juices. My only complaint would be their menu presentation and parking. The menu is a bit of a cluster*** and the parking as with other businesses in the area is small and confined, so I parked across the street but it wasn't a long walk.

  • Donna P.

I ordered the Keali'i Special, which is their most popular poke bowl. Imagine a lot of deconstructed tuna (and avocado, if you want to add it in for a dollar) sushi rolls in a bowl... that's basically what it is. The service is great, location is hidden from the strip which to me is a good thing, and the food tasted pretty fresh. If you're going with a friend, I say order two different things and share because you get so much in one order and it's easy to get tired of the same taste (like going out for sushi and ordering 4 of the same roll).

Such a fantastic place. My mother had the special poke bowl which was phenomenal and I had the spicy. The spicy is not for the faint of taste buds though. It really gets your sinuses going. Still great though and incredibly fresh. We finished it off with the watermelon juice which was great. Traveled thirty minutes from Norfolk and it was well worth it.

First time here today. I had the keali's special. I was satisfied just a little over priced compared to places I've been to in California where I'm originally from. I guess you can't expect much from shitty hampton roads. I liked the shop it was cute and quiet. The man at the counter was very friendly. I recommend & definitely will be returning!

This place is awesome! The coffee is perfect and the Acai Bowls are great for breakfast. I recommend the Brazil Bowl (Banana, Kiwi and Mango). This is easily my new favorite coffee shop in VA Beach, so if you haven't been yet stop in and check it out.

Haven't tried any of the bowls to speak of, but the coffee is delicious and the retro ambiance is very inviting. The staff here are always friendly and laid-back, and super into their coffee craft. The honey-cinnamon latte is the stuff of dreams (hot or iced).

Great first visit!! We tried the spicy bowl and the Keali'i special- both we're fantastic!! Super fresh, high quality ingredients mixed in perfect proportions. Plan to head back soon for coffee, juice and breakfast bowls. Only tiny room for improvement would be more beverage choices for lunch and dinner.

We've never had either poke or acai bowls, but they were fabulous. My husband and I shared a tofu spicy bowl since he's allergic to fish. The flavor was so pronounced and wonderful, and it was spicy without ruining the flavor. We also shared and acai bowl with coconut and bananas - it was fabulous. We've tried to recreate the flavor at home to no avail. The granola was some of the best I've had. Top it all off with a cup of coffee so good you'd spoil it by adding cream. The ambiance is slightly lacking, but def not a deal breaker. Great place, wish we lived closer.

The prices went up. They are a little pricey but I'm glad I found this place. The OG poke bowl was delicious! I came back a second time and had the Keali'i Special and that was good too. The employees were super nice and I will definitely be back. Pretty far for me to travel but a nice treat.

The poke bowls are awesome. My sister bought me one yesterday and my fiancée and I had the spicy ones for dinner tonight! The service was good, the place is unique, and the portions are nice. We had the large and I had enough for another round later. Yum! Highly recommend.

Freakin great poke. The only poke spot I know of on this coast. There's a couple back home in california that are amazing and this place rivals them for sure... I hope they come up with a couple more poke recipes!!! Hint hint!! :D

The food is good, but the only issue I had was, with the cashier/server. Very, very poor customer service. It was our first time, visiting the restaurant, and the employee (dark long hair) was not inviting. On her phone most of the time, which is probably why she forgot about my drink that I ordered. I will go there again, because the food is awesome. The Keali's special was delicious. I hope the server/cashier will be a little bit more inviting and informational next time we come.

Ahhhhhmazing coffee! However, pricey pricey pricey! Another ahhhhhhmazing for their insanely delicious acai bowls!!! I had one of their bold roasts with soy milk and their PB&J acai bowl. The only thing I would complain about is their limited options for coffee stir-ins. Not many creamer/milk options or sweetener options. I was almost sure that I had spent a ridiculous amount on coffee and acai for something that wasn't going to be that great but I was very pleasantly surprised. It was FANTASTIC! Besides the price and the limited options I was happy :) Well-done! Oh, and not to mention its a place that clearly caters to a young hipster sort of crowd but it has a vintage touch of class and a clear intent to inspire people with creativity!

food was great, but the to-go containers really cheaped out the experience. i had a kale salad that was perfectly dressed and really good, but eating it out of plastic with a plastic fork made me feel like i'd bought it at safeway.
