Diabetics at Village Inn

Village Inn is a tough place for diabetics, and you must be extra cautious while ordering food at the Village Inn, especially if you're a diabetic. The food items low in sodium are high in sugar or cholesterol at Village Inn which makes it difficult for diabetics to choose the right food at the diner.

Foods to Avoid at Village Inn for Diabetics

Village Inn offers very few items edible for diabetics without any threat. You can avoid sandwiches and burgers at Village Inn and try the light breakfast items on the menu. You must also skip the shakes as well as other juices from the beverage menu. Almost all the dinner items on the menu are high in sodium except Grilled Tilapia and 6 oz. Top Sirloin & Toast. Avoid Soup bowls and opt for cups instead at Village Inn.

This place is fantastic and really clean. We came to Virginia Beach with visions of romance and quaint eats. What we got was a pretty shaggy beach front and a fair number of greasy spoons with a considerable number of high end pricey restaurants as our only alternative. Unexpected. So, where to? From our window at the Westin, we could see the building and when I figured out it was a Village Inn, we had to go. This place is really great and super well run. It's clean and comfortable, the food is good, there are healthier alternatives available, there are vegetarian options available (boca burgers included), and the waitress was really sweet. I really mean that it's clean, and many details that would be easily overlooked elsewhere were taken care of here. I mean, while I was sitting there, I saw a man walking around outside the restaurant washing the window sills with boiling water... Really great. Try it, like we did, for its nostalgia factor (every Sunday after church with the family as a kid), or do yourself a favor and take your family in order to develop a little nostalgia for it of your own.

Food is good, but everything other than that sucks. Service was near non, not friendly at all. Dining area was not nice. Wish service better, explain their specials better.

.This place is a stable for a lot of my VB friends, and I think I see why. It seems like that dependable workhorse, that may never win you the race, but also won't leave you on stranded on the back-40 (ask your parents of you don't understand that reference, they get it). It is nice, clean, friendly, roomy, comfy benches for the not-so-petit..ahem... and the seating was quick, I mean not even stopping long enough to let the door close quick. Admittedly, I don't see a special trip out here for a meal on the horizon, but the food is extremely good. Also, I don't know what else they list is their server requirements (eclectic, unique, one of a kind personality) but I can't help but say you get a small piece of character with every member of the staff you meet. Our waiter had a great sense of humor, was right on time when we needed him, but like Emilio in Mr Deeds, was eerily RIGHT THERE when you needed something. I had a nice burger for dinner and they thankfully understand what MEDIUM means, just a hint of pink...not overly lean to be dry, you know. TASTEY! Oh, and fresh veggies for toppings.. no wilted lettuce here. Their onion rings are what top my list. I love a fresh, thick cut, sweet- batter dipped onion ring, that has enough structure where the onion stays put. I imagine if I find myself near Town Center and don't feel like the over priced Chinese, or 10 different ways to serve an Italian sub, I can sit down for another home-style meal at the Village Inn.. See you there?

Why are the pancakes so good here? I'm genuinely suspicious lol they are AMAZING. The service is great, they turn over tables quickly so even when it looks packed the wait time isn't bad. Prices are reasonable, food is always excellent...they take diner food to the next level. It started out as our late-night go to, until we discovered breakfast, and now it's our casual lunch spot too. Love it. The only reasons I give it 4 out of 5 stars is that sometimes it smells a little funny (like dirty sponge)...only if they're not busy though, when theres a ton of food coming out I don't notice it. Also...their corporate office advertised a Veterans Day special of a free slice of pie for military...but this particular location "chose not to participate". Which I thought was really just poor taste on their part. But I couldn't stay mad because I do love their pie!!!

Best breakfast in Virginia Beach! I don't know how they do it but their pancakes are so light and fluffy. I usually order the west coast pita scramble and it's delicious. The avocado is always fresh. The california scramble is great too. I normally order it without hollandaise sauce and it's so good. Their portions are large and you will leave feeling stuffed. My husband loves the country fried steak and eggs. The pie is pretty good too and you can't beat a free slice on Wednesdays. I eat here quite often and the hostess and servers are always pleasant. The restaurant is always clean and they are accommodating when I request a booth.

I may be harsh for only giving this place three stars, but it's not iHop or Denny's, lol. Now, for some, you may love that fact. For me, it's good but not great. When I go here it's to take my kids for some pie. People love the pie. The pie to me is tasty. They have a layered pecan and French silk pie that my whole family loves. My daughter can not get enough of the chocolate and peanut butter pie and I love the traditional apple pie à al mode. If you like diner style breakfast (I am a fan) and you like pie, give this place a try. I do think it's really good and I am a repeat offender.

This is the breakfast gem of virginia beach. Very good. Clean, quick service, and delicious. Good coffee. I had the Crepes Lorraine. Perfect. Momma had the eggs benedict. her plate came out with the eggs over done. This was speedily replaced with a perfect plate delivered by the manager. Very good. Very good.

We come here for breakfast on accession (better then IHOP). Nothing special but nothing bad or unpleasant. Straight up breakfast fare, good service, lots of menu choices, fair prices.

I got a piece of the chocolate pie. It was much better than I envisioned (though super sweet to the point of mandating a drink), and easily ten million times better than most generic diner or chain restaurants' chocolate desserts. Plus, service was granted with quite a large smile and lots of joy even at 10:00 pm on a school night.

This place is always packed which says a lot. We usually only get breakfast here, which is awesome! The service is a little slow, but that is to be expected when they are so busy. They just recently went through a remodel and the place is beautiful inside! I love it!

A bit more homey than the nearby IHOP, this place has anything you could enjoy for breakfast plus a variety of beautiful pies, I like the breakfast skillets.

I'm not a big breakfast but brought my wife here. First thing you notice is how clean the place is. April (our server) was delightful. I ordered the west coast pita (against my manly intuition) and it was amazing. The hash browns were out of this world too. Wish I wasn't moving and found this place years ago. Price was very reasonable and military discount. Thank you

Some of the best breakfast I have ever had. Definitely my favorite food from my Virginia trip. Everything including the toast was delicious. Service was absolutely excellent. The only reason I am knocking this place down a star was because as others have noted the eggs (omelette/scrambled) were just a little undercooked. Highly recommended if you are looking for great breakfast.

Food is typical, but always fresh. The waitstaff are ALWAYS friendly and willing to take a large group. The variety of pie is great. Their newer menu option of 4/$7.98 or something like that is awesome! And the #1 reason I go: They cook their hash browns better (browner) than Ihop!

Very cute, nice and clean! Our breakfast was delicious and the service was excellent! I had the veggie omellette, my son had a Belgian waffle and my husband had the Ultimate bacon & cheese omelette. We even got free pie because on Wednesdays you get a complimentary slice of pie with your meal. We'll try it later when we get back to the hotel. I'm sure it'll be as fantastic as everything we had!

The breakfasts and entrees are wonderful. I've had a few of them and the portions and flavors are exactly what you want and expect when you go to a diner/family restaurant. But this place is all about the PIES. Lots of different kinds, lots of different combinations, you name it. If anything, go there with some friends and order 3 or 4 different slices. Share them. Fight over them. Order more. Last time we were there, we had the strawberry rhubarb, something caled hawaiian apple something or other, and a slice of cheesecake. All good, all across the board. None of the slices were overly sweet, the slice size was just right, and they appeared at the table within 2 minutes after ordering them. If you just want a place for dessert, this is where you should go.

Best late night fare in Va Beach area. If you're partying in Norfolk but live in Va Beach, then this is where you kind of sober up. The crowd at night is varied, but friendly. I've never been here during any reasonable hour, just the unreasonable ones. It's your typical diner fare, but since its not a big chain the food is a little bit better--not substantially better than Denny's or IHOP though. It's a "hang-out" spot, if you can call it that. Oh Va Beach, when will you grow up? Aimless but not shameless...

After hitting up the clubs and you are got the late night munchies this is definitely the spot to hit up. They have everything you want for breakfast and even Country Fried Steak!!! The place is really clean and the staff is awesome. I got one of there Skillets and it was really good. I'll be honest. I wouldn't go here to eat regularly. Just when i'm drunk and really craving sausage and waffles..... MMM......

Village Inn is a terrific breakfast spot. I usually go when I have family in town because they can accommodate our crowd better than Citrus. There is something on the menu to please everyone. It's way better than Ihop and Denny's down on Virginia Beach Blvd. I also recommend Village Inn's pies! They look spectacular and put grocery store bought desserts to shame. Definitely remember this place if you need to pick up pie for Thanksgiving.

Amazing breakfast! I got the country fried steak skillet (shared it with my daughter) and it was delicious! We had a very pleasant waiter, and she handled our large party very well. The coffee was pretty decent for a diner, and the prices very fair!! the wait was much shorter than I hop and I think it tastes better!!

The Village Inn has become a staple in the Pembrooke area (mainly as it remains one of the few places open 24 hours on weekends). While the food is rather ordinary, despite what some people say about the pie, it is typically the local's choice for a place to devour late night eats and peoplewatch. You've never seen such a variety of drunks at 2am in your life.

This place is right up the road from our home and we LOVE it. The portion sizes are massive. The selection is amazing for a diner-type place. The pies are out of this world. Good servers, relaxed feel. Fairly low prices!

We were checking out of our hotel and asked the desk clerk for a local place that had good breakfast. Immediately she recommended the Village Inn. We got there around 11:30 AM on a summer Sunday and it was packed with locals which I took to be a good sign. We had a 20 minute wait with the line practically out of the door. Service was okay..but like I say, it was packed. They give big portions and pancakes AND grits or hash browns come with every egg special. These ranged from 7-10 dollars. I got the steak and eggs. Steak- It was a real sirloin and really well cooked and seasoned. Eggs-were scrambled, not cooked very well, and not very tasty. Grits were really disappointing- instant and flavorless. Pancakes- were awesome, light, fluffy and buttery. GF got the Crepes, she said they were cold, but really good. OJ was watery Minute Maid. Tea was cheap and a bit tasteless. The couple next to me sent some of their stuff back. So it was kind of a mixed bag. We paid about $25.00. A bit much for breakfast if you ask me.

My go to here is the French skillet, but I decided to not get breakfast food. So I decided to try their All-World Double Burger with french fries. It was delicious! Fries were perfect, crispy on the outside and a little fluffy on the inside. The burger was the star of the show! Two beef patties with cheese, bacon and onion rings. Burger was sooo big I could barely fit it in my mouth. I couldn't even finish the whole burger. I thought Village Inn was only good for their breakfast food, but now I know their burgers are on point too!

I have been to VI over a hundred of times in Nebraska. They are always clean. Food is fresh... food is usually prompt. But the food was NOT fresh here. Took forever for us to be seated. Food took forever to come out. Manager was nice as PIE... no pun intended (as they are known for their pies). I will try them again... oh yeah VI staff if you are reading this... CLEAN YOUR BATHROOMS. Shame on ya'll. I almost threw up my food once I walked in there... had I seen the bathrooms before I ate... I would have walked right out... Also, the management notes where guest can see them... is extremely unprofessional... one sign read "FINAL WARNING: Employee are not allowed to take food home" Next sign: "Employee are not allowed to box food up and take home" Keep all that employee stuff behind the scenes... stay classy.

I have eaten at this location three times and it was only been ok the first time and it has only gotten worse. I ordered the liver and onions with stuffing and broccoli. 1. The liver was paper thin, over cooked, and under seasoned 2. The stuffing was dry and sparse. Stove top brand would have been a step up. 3. The broccoli was sparse too and appeared to be an after thought. When I was rung out I was asked how everything was, my response was lacking, at which point I was not asked what the issue was, showing no interest. So very disappointing and be assured, never again.

Great place to stop in for a bite. Open early and stays open late. Breakfast is great. The pick your own is what I go with, a little of everything. Good dinner menu as well. Gets crowded on weekend mornings as you would expect but the wait is not usually too bad. I also enjoy the skillets and the waffles, French toast, and pancakes aren't bad either. Service is usually pretty good. I've never had a problem. Always like to stop in when I can.

Wow. After our first visit, my husband and I had really thought we had found an awesome little diner type restaurant, and we were especially thrilled with the fact that they were open 24 hours on Friday and Saturday. So that's exactly where our mind went when it was 1am yesterday and we were starving. We were out with a couple of friends when we all decided that we were all hungry (let me preface this by saying that we were not out drinking, so we were not being rude or obnoxious drunks during our visit here). My husband and I told our friends about this place since we had had such an amazing meal and experience here the last time, which resulted in my previously stellar review. They said it sounded great, so we decided to meet them there. My husband and I were the first to arrive, so we were seated at a booth to wait for our two friends to arrive. Our waitress, whose name was Mellisa (I'm not spelling this wrong, this was how she spelled it on our check and she pronounced it differently than Melissa) was brusque to begin with, and asked for our drink order. I ordered a water and my husband wanted sweet tea. She brought us two waters and walked away. We just blew this off, and she did bring a sweet tea over a few minutes later, saying she forgot he ordered tea. So after this, we browsed the menu while waiting for our friends. 5 minutes later, she came over and exasperatedly asked when our friends would be arriving. We said we weren't sure and she just walked away. When our friends did arrive, she was over within seconds of them taking a seat, asking for their drink order and if they were ready to order their food. Seeing that they had literally just sat down, you can imagine that the answer was no. After bringing our drinks, Mellisa came back and took our order, sounding annoyed with us the entire time. We were all just baffled as to why our waitress was being so abrupt and rude, and she really seemed like she was already ready for us to leave even though we had been nothing but polite. When she did bring our food, she had no idea whose food was whose, and she essentially threw our food down and took off without asking if we needed anything. In addition, our food was very poor quality compared to our last visit. A few minutes later, she came back to refill our waters. She asked my husband if he wanted a refill on his water...which had been the sweet tea. He politely just said no and did not correct her or ask for a sweet tea refill instead, even though he had needed one for quite a while. The cherry on top of this visit is when we were all not even halfway done with our food and she came to the table, threw our checks down, and took off. And as soon as we were finished eating, she came over and grabbed all of our plates and left, without ever asking if we were finished with them. My husband still had an entire plate full of fries. After this, she never came back. She was on the other side of the room and she made sure to never turn around and look at us, making it impossible to even try to flag her down. She cleaned a countertop for much longer than was needed. It was clear she wanted us to leave and she wasn't planning on coming back. Which was rather unfortunate, because our friends had really wanted to try the pie that we had been raving about to them before our visit here. Overall, this was certainly some of the absolute worst service that I've ever received. My entire meal felt rushed and uncomfortable thanks to our server's attitude and treatment. My husband and I were honestly embarrassed that we had raved about this place to our friends, and then received this kind of food and service. So needless to say, maybe this ISN'T someplace we'll be coming back to.

Met a fellow Yelper here because he's here and I'd not reviewed it previously. Village Inn isn't in my usual rotation of breakfast places and maybe that should change. Sure, they're a chain (not as big as the "international" one or the one that starts with "D") but they are good at what they are good at - breakfast. And pies. I only had the former but I think I'll be back for the latter soon. By the way, April is the bizness. This lady knows her stuff, is friendly and speedy. I wish there were more waitresses like her. Not just here, but elsewhere. I ordered a simple breakfast - ham and cheese omelet - and it arrived quickly. The omelet is the fat and fluffy kind, rather than the flat and folded kind. I prefer fluffy omelets when there's an option. Nicely sized, well stuffed and the hash browns on the side were excellent. Toast, coffee, all the fixings. All good. Yep, I'll be back to a Village Inn soon.

Village inn..i used to think that u were a hotel.. I didn't say I was the brightest light bulb in the bunch. Some one took me here once and I loved it! It's like an IHOP pretty much, except better. It had an older kinda feel. If you're craving something with a local kind of feel as opposed to a modern feel you should try it.. even if it's just for that nice big slice of cold banana cream pie..we are going for dinner tonight so I will update:) ** so we went here last night for dinner and it was even better then I remembered! ! The service was impeccable. The manager was nice as could be too. My kids loved it Jayden even said mommy these people cook good here:) I posted some pics the salad was perfect the ranch was delicious..the fries dipped in ranch were perfectly crunchy in every bite the sandwich was awesome..even better for lunch today I think!! But the highlight of my night..MY FAVORITE banana cream pie...omg it's heaven on a plate..seriously it was like it floated down from heaven and landed on my plate it was amazing!! Love it!! you have to try the pie just trust me and get a slice.

This is a good American diner. The menu is like Denny's and IHOP but not really. I had the french skillet; coffee to start. It came out hot and it was delicious. I was craving pancakes and it came with them. That made me excited. Nice portion size, not huge, but a nice size. The atmosphere is quiet which is a change from my usual diner choice. Clean establishment and friendly wait staff. The prices are typical; nothing to write home about. Overall it was enjoyable. Nice job. I just may have to come back here.

If you are looking for mediocre breakfast place at a higher price then this is your place. Very comparable to an IHOP or Denny's Wait staff was great and I like they leave a craft of coffee for you so you can refill your own when needed My eggs were warm not hot and the home fries were obviously frozen pre made potatoes not quality at all. The toast was buttered way too much and the bacon was 1/2 fat This is a place I won't try again on my next visit to the area. I found a local spot that is 100 times better food, quality, atmosphere, and service Will say pie looks amazing in the case but dang it's expensive

I was in town center area looking for breakfast and I immediately pulled out my handy dandy yelp app to see what was nearby and I found this place. I knew it would be a winner when it seemed like a handful of my yelp friends visited here and gave it good reviews. You could compare the style of food to IHOP and around the same price, but when you have the choice of supporting a local business well, the Village Inn is here to service your breakfast all day, lunch and free pie on Wednesdays needs after 10am needs. They have free wifi as well but it was not working during my visit. The staff here is so friendly. I was greeted by the manager of the establishment and once seated was helped by a waitress that could have been copied and pasted from a old school movie diner set. Very bubbly, friendly and helpful with questions that I had. Similar to ihop once you receive your food, you get your check and go up to the front counter to pay. Regarding the food, the chocolate chip pancakes were the perfect size, not to big where I couldn't eat them all but not small enough where I was begging for more. The country potatoes are fried so warning to those who prefer them grilled with onions and such, the waitress informed me so I steered away from them. I will definitely return if only for the good service which is hard to find these days.

I'm not a fan of waiting when I get to a restaurant. Really though, who is?! We came to Village Inn on Memorial Day around 11 am. Judging by the number of folks standing around outside, we were prepared for a long one. I gave the host my information. He didn't tell us how long the wait would be, but we weren't leaving. I have never been to Village Inn and I was anxiously awaiting a delicious brunch! About 10 minutes later, we were seated in a cozy booth in the corner near the kitchen. It wasn't too loud - just right. We were promptly greeted and offered coffee by Linsey (Forgive me if I've misspelled the name!). She was a WONDERFUL server. We ordered and she was quick to offer an amendment that would leave me practically a second meal and only cost $.50. Who does that?! She clearly knows them menu very well and was incredibly helpful. My handsome man ordered the ham steak and eggs, which was accompanied by grits and pancakes. He seemed to thoroughly enjoy his meal! I had egg whites, turkey sausage, sliced fresh tomatoes and whole wheat pancakes. All was tasty but I prefer my pancakes to be a little fluffier. These were more dense than I was used to, but still good. I loved the hint of cinnamon. They also offer sugar free syrup if that's your cup of tea! I'm very much looking forward to returning to try a salad (you've read my reviews right?! I'm a salad freak.. even for one in a pancake heaven!). Our neighbors ordered a grilled chicken and fruit salad and it looked awesome!

You know, I have driven past this "Village Inn" almost daily for over 10 years and never stopped, simply because of that funky looking exterior they have on the place. I had the false impression it would be a dump. Well, I looked at Yelp and saw superb reviews for them, so I gave them a try. Very glad I did! The food and Menu is very comparable in price and taste to an Ihop, perhaps a little better. The service is (I hate this word as a prior military man, but will use it), "Outstanding". ! Other positives: They have a very nice display case full of great pies, and if you dine here on a Wednesday, pick a slice and enjoy it, as pie is Free on Wednesdays. (Call me a nut, I don't like any Pie, except for meat pot pies), but.... My wife was so happy to get a nice slice of pie for free, and that was great. She hadn't been that excited since the last time she put money in the Coke machine, and 2 sodas fell out for the price of one. It's the little things, you know.... So overall, the outside with that weird green/orange awning may be pretty "outdated", but go inside! The food and the service are great.

Best place to get a little of everything.. FRENCH TOAST .. On point Chicken Pot Pie .. on point Turkey Club.. As expected Coconut Pie...on point Peanut Butter cup Pie ..on point I had visited this place twice in one day.. I highly recommend going on Wednesday. Just be prepared for a little wait.

OMG. Like where do I begin. First off, I live in Portsmouth and let me tell you that this place is SO worth the drive to Independence! This has been a go to breakfast spot for me and my family for YEARS. This is the only location in this area. On Saturday and Sunday mornings this place is packed and I can almost guarantee that you will be waiting 20-60 minutes. Line coming out the door packed. I don't mind the wait because the food is worth it. Although they have a lunch and dinner menu, I've never had any of that stuff. I come here specifically for breakfast. Their breakfast hands down is some kind of YUMMY. I have had just about everything on the breakfast side, omelets, skillets, Belgian waffles, hashbrowns, pancakes, country fried steak, eggs benedict - you name it, I've had it. At this point, I tend to get the bacon and mushroom omelet with EXTRA hollandaise sauce. Sweet Bertha, the hollandaise sauce is AMAZINGGGGGGGGGG. I always get the raspberry tea and usually end up getting a pitcher for the table as those that I've introduced to it, end up loving it and guzzling it. They've had the same management team for yearssssss, however staff changes constantly and as such, the service can be hit or miss. It's nothing that will stop me from coming here though. They do have a couple of waitresses that have been there for a long time and they recognize me as a familiar face which is nice. Oh, they have some really good pies too! Check it out!!!

Angela was the kindest, genuine person ever! She was ssooooo nice and attentive! Best service ever, because of her. The food was delicious, hot, and came out pretty quick (even though we waited for about 30 minutes for a table on a Sunday afternoon) and I highly recommend you try the pie ;)

If you really want to find a true local staple in Virginia Beach then you have to check out Village Inn. While it is still a chain, this particular one has been a part of the Town Center area before it was even a Town Center. This is that place you can go super late at night (24 hours on weekends) and no matter what time it is you are bound to run into someone you know. The food isn't the greatest but there is just something about this place that keeps me coming back. Maybe it's the atmosphere. Maybe it's because it's the great service. But I think it's really one of those places that just makes me think it comfort food. I've come here with just a few friends and at times with groups as large as 30 and each time I go this place is just really consistent with its service and food. This is a special place to me and I think if you want to really capture a piece of Virginia Beach with you then this one of those places to do just that!

I thought it was delicious! Our server was attentive and very helpful when I asked her questions about the menu. My eggs with cheese were cooked to where my eggs still had that yummy juicy egg feel to them. My chocolate chip pancakes with whip cream on top seriously melted in my mouth. And finally the hash browns were nice and warm, with that little bit of crunch you expect from them. I didn't really like their oj, it tasted like it was cheap to me, but that is just me. I think my meal all came out to less than $15. The place itself was filled with older people, because I guess who else goes out with their friend on a Thursday morning to eat breakfast? I do have to say I was very impressed by the man at the front desk though. When myself and my friend went to check out I was getting all pouty about leaving my military id card at home. He even asked me what was wrong, I explained to him what happened and he gave me the discount! That to me was awesome. The military discounts are only on Thursdays by the way.

Village Inn is always so accommodating for groups of various sizes. Their food is always good and fresh. They are spot on for timing for take out as well. If they tell you 15 minutes, it's ready at the counter in 15 minutes. It was a great place to hang out and grab some grub after a late night when I was younger. Still a great place for friendly staff and great food even if I'm not out late nights as I'm now older.

Unimpressive food for an astounding amount of money. I got a side of bacon with an underwhelming breakfast and was charged twenty bucks before tip.

This place has been a Virginia Beach mainstay since I was a kid 30+ years ago. Easily my one of my top 3 breakfast spots in the city and definitely #1 place to grab a late late night meal after the clubbing/ bar hopping. Food is great, prices are decent, and the wait staff is phenomenal... Especially if you are in a drunken state. They take care of you regardless. Breakfast is great, but the pies are the best!

My boyfriend and I went here during Valentine's weekend so the place was packed when we got there at 10am. We waited about 30 minutes for a table. The waitress was excellent and very helpful. She was friendly and professional. The food was delicious! The prices are awesome. Parking is a bit of a nightmare here though. They have a great ambiance. I definitely plan on going back!

This is one of my go-to places to eat after going out. But above all that, I believe it's a better place to eat at rather than Ihop. My favorite to order are the eggs Benedict amd their crepes, so delicious!

  • Darius M.

This was a decent spot. The food was pretty good. Is one of the few non Waffle House/Ihop breakfast spots open in late in the 757. I went on Wed morning after work. The wait to order was longer than is liked but it didn't take long for the food to come out one I did. They had a few large parties. I definitely will be coming back again.

Been dining here for years. If I haven't eaten here in a few months I really start to crave for it. Get any of their skillets, you won't be disappointed. I forget which day it is, but somewhere between Tuesday-Thursday you get a free slice of homemade pie with your meal. Village Inn is one of Hampton Road's best kept secrets.

I rarely give chain restaurants reviews; they kinda blur together in a wash of mediocre, but not the Village Inn. Their hamburgers are truly amazing, fresh meat grounded in house. Huge and meaty masterpieces. Also the staff are always super friendly. Great for breakfast or late night eats.

I've only had their pie, but its marvelous and comes in many flavors! The local .NET user group heads over to the Village Inn after each meeting for pie and to continue their discussions.

I've been coming in the last few weeks and have found a good experience every time. I usually take advantage of the VIB breakfast special. The food has come out nice and hot. All of the food has been cooked properly. When I come in on Wednesdays, I also take advantage of the free pie. The reason I only gave four stars is because I did come in on a Sunday a while back for breakfast. It was packed and that was the only time things weren't up to par. They had to redo my order, but it came out hot and not cold that time around.

Awesome breakfast again! Love their waffles with warm syrup, eggs over easy and crisp bacon. I have become a big fan of VI because on almost every visit they hit on all cylinders and this morning was no different and the staff roared! The waitresses are friendly and smile constantly. As well management is very involved... you just don't see this at a resturant with this price point. Learned that VI is a very small chain limited to VA, NC, SC, FL, AK & OH. I also found out and this is hard to believe I never knew, but Wednesday is FREE pie with a meal purchase. Pies are homemade and look scrumptious in the front case. The score is. 6-1 for me at VI. 6 very consistent visits with great service and food. 1 visit that had service issues and was in an updated review. I would recommend this VI all day long and happy that it's not far from my home. If you have yet to check it out you can't beat the Town Center location. Of course I will be back.

I guess if you like your food soupy then this is the place. Where do I start? Ordered a GARDEN veggie omelet (tomatoes, onions, green peppers). It seemed like they used salsa dip as a sub for real tomatoes. So digusting. The wheat pancakes looked edible but the texture was like paste...weird. My sweety ordered french toast w/ bananas and strawberries. The menu shows fresh cut strawberries but like they did with my omelet, strawberries weren't fresh and they dumped them on the toast along with the juice instead of draining the fruit first. You know its bad when you get home, puke and do #2.

This restaurant was slammed! We only waited about 20 minutes but the line was very long. The hosts are very organized and get you seated quickly. Upon being seated, we were promptly waited on by an extremely friendly waitress named Angela. She was awesome. Food: coffee is terrible. I might be a coffee snob but I like a coffee with distinct flavor, deep and rich, flavorful and savory coffee. The Village Inn coffee tastes like expired foldgers or maxwell house. It's watered down and tastes like burnt iron. -1 star The food was quite delicious , especially the pie. I highly recommend the caramel and chocolate pie! I had the low calorie champions breakfast and topped it off with pie. I would definitely come back but not for the coffee.

The food here is sub-par for the money paid for it. My husband, myself and my 4 yr old recently decided after many years to try this place. It was recommended several years ago by a co-worker of mine. While the environment is very comfortable, cute and homey, the food borders on average and below average. I ordered the Eggs Benedict and the hollandaise sauce was very oily, separated and tasted like it had been sitting all day ... didn't taste much like hollandaise sauce. My husband got the french toast - - again, it was just OK. My daughter got a kids pancake meal that was suitable. Overall, we spent just over $40 (with 20% tip) for food that was not worth it (though the staff were extremely nice). For that kind of money, one would get better food at Pop's Diner or Cracker Barrel (though Cracker Barrel isn't as physically comfortable). Sadly, I doubt I will be back again. $40 is a lot to pay for breakfast food which is average at best.

Good place! I had never been, and like others...I was kinda put off by the appearance of the place on the outside. A friend kept telling me about how good Village Inn was and I brushed it off. I visited on a Wednesday morning with my boyfriend and got seated right away. The hosts and hostesses were SO nice and polite...they really do great with customer service. We were served promptly and the food was delicious and hot. I had eggs, homestyle potatoes, bacon and two really tasty pancakes. At the particular time of day I went, there were a lot of senior citizens there...which I don't mind at all. I can see how this would be a great breakfast spot for the late night crowd from Town Center (especially since IHOP moved farther down VA Beach Blvd). I would say give Village Inn a try. And get the free slice of pie on Wednesdays! Yes!!!

Quick breakfast before heading to the airport and the wait was long but definitely worth it. The create your own breakfast was perfect...a little bit of everything for less than $10. Service was quick and good suggestions. I recommend the French Toast and please don't forget some PIE to go. I had it on the plane and it was so good I had to put it away and share it with my friends in NY and they loved. Dreaming about the chocolate pie

Not many places are open late in the evening. Perhaps your IHOP but who the heck wants to go there? I'm not sure if this place is open late during the week but who goes out and drinks and then gets a major food craving at 2am on a Tuesday? Not this guy... But when the weekend rolls around I need my late night fix. Village Inn, you continue to complete me nine years into my drinking career. I remember the days going back to college being out with friends doing our typical bar hopping and when everywhere shut down we twiddled our thumbs not wanting to go home. This is where Village Inn saved many, many, many night. It was our extension of the bar scene where we can continue to cut up but feed our food cravings. I've crushed everything from omelettes, to burgers and country fried steak. The real star of the show here? Pancakes... The freaking pancakes. I advise whatever it is you order make sure it comes with pancakes or get a side order. You'll thank me later. Keep on rockin' VI... You make us crazy folks who kick it late at Town Center ever so happy.

We saw this place a few days ago when we were going to Dunkin. I yelped it and saw the reviews were mixed so I wanted to try it out. It was a little busy today but we didn't wait very long maybe 20 mins which is exactly what they had told us. The server was very nice. She took our order and our food came out pretty quick. I got the eggs Benedict with a side of French toast. My husband got the chicken fried steak with pancakes. The French toast was delicious and had great flavor that I didn't need syrup. I tried my husbands chicken fried steak and the breading was so flavorful and crispy. We definitely will be back and will bring family here when they come to visit. Oh and I didn't see the pies until we left so I'm definitely going to be back to try one.

Ordered the California Skillet sunny side up. It was really good and it came with pancakes, For like $10.99 I enjoyed it way more than the fish eggs benedict from Citrus I got last week for $19.

Amazing spot for classic breakfast. Pancakes were perfect....agree with other reviews they don't even need syrup. Country fried steak was one of the best my hubby has had....crisp batter! We were happy to find this place. Ps fellow coffee addicts you will love the pitcher just for you placed at your table

Hello IHOP? This this has the same dishes and quality as ihop...Country fried steak with white gravy was super oily. Ultimate skillet is 60% potatoes and 30% oil. Pancakes were bigger than IHOP's but had the same semi dry taste. Go to mom&pop's, service and quality is better. This place just offers everything under the sun.

This is the second best place I've been to for breakfast. Me and my gf had the most trouble when looking through the menu as EVERYTHING sounded delicious: waffles, home made pancakes, french toast, etc. Their specialty here is bfast/brunch but they also have lunch options like sandwiches and burgers. I got the biscuits and sausage gravy, two eggs over easy, with a side of bacon (which was FOUR dollars...). Biscuits and gravy were delicious. Warm and soft biscuits and sausage gravy complemented it very well. Eggs were also perfect and had the right amount of runnyness to it. My gf got the pancakes and these were the best pancakes, anywhere! So light and fluffy and tasted great with or without the syrup! Service was good and our waitress checked up on us a few times throughout our meal. P.S.- really really small parking lot so dont be surprised if you have to wait for a spot P.S.S.- we really wanted a slice of pie but we were just too stuffed from what we got

Stopped here for brunch on Sunday. I ordered the huevos rancheros and it was delicious! The service was decent overall. We'd planned to get a piece of pie but the server dropped the check off with our meal. We asked if the check had been closed and were assured it had not and we could order pie. (Apparently it is their policy to deliver the check with the food. I found this off-putting as it gives the impression that they want you out as soon as you finished eating.) Unfortunately we did not see our server again, so we left without ordering dessert. I have to wonder what revenue they are losing by providing the check so early . . .

I wish I could kick myself in the head ... I've lived in VB 20+ years and never stepped into the VI. Omg.. Seriously, if you're craving a sweet breakfast -- get the damn pancakes!! I've never had such fluffy and perfect pancakes. Barely even needed any syrup because that's how delicious they are on their own. Bf had the biscuits with sausage gravy which he really enjoyed but I thought was a tad salty. Our server was wonderful and really made all of her customers feel at home. Over all the two of us really enjoyed our meal here and wouldn't hesitate to come back again when we're craving a good hearty breakfast for a good price.

great refreshing colors and decors. widescreens on the walls. Great friendly service and most important of all affordable prices. Had their special called the champion and it was just plain good. We have been here multiple times and have never had a bad experience. The service has always been great with friendly staff and short wait times. The food is as expected, nothing spectacular but decent for the price. Recommend for a quick family dinner , they also serve breakfast all day and the pies are pretty tasty as well.

While visiting family in Virginia Beach, VA, my sisters and I found ourselves searching breakfast locations off the Blvd. We finally settled on Village Inn. We had a 30 minute wait, which had to be done outside due to the small "waiting" section in the front of the restaurant. Several family's were waiting as well.. No biggie. We all ordered French Toast with standard breakfast " sides" .. The food was fair nothing fancy and did the job for less then 10 bucks. My only comment would be concerning the decor which was dated and could use some updating... Apparently the patrons have no issues with it.. So, I digress.

Had dinner at the Village Inn on Independence Blvd., a great experience. Food was wonderful and a lot of it. My wife had the breakfast for dinner and she loved it. My son's hamburger was enormous and great. My chicken fried steak was great. Friendly waitress and hostess, manager asked how the service was. Just a great place to eat and the secret is the pie, its out of this world!! Bought another to take home. 9-15-14 New favorite at Village Inn, the World-class Double Beacon Cheeseburger. Enjoyed every bite.

So apparently if you're from Virginia Beach, you've been here for late nights eats since there's about zero other places that serve meals 24 hours a day. This joint pretty much provides tasty diner food except they're locally owned. I guess for those who don't know, this is the place to be after a night of drinking. I am from California so I am used to 50 places being open late at night (mostly Mexican food) so I was surprised to know the options are very limited around this part of the country. We spent a long time talking to our server, some white chick who had a lot of witty things to say. I'll probably be back someday if I live around here long-term.

Arrived for a late breakfast on a Wednesday morning. My party of 5 was promptly greeted and sat. Our waitress was very attentive, and our drink order arrived quickly. Our order was placed, and the food came out amazingly fast. The manager Tim was very engaged on the floor, stopping at each table to inquire about meals. He runs a tight ship. It was my first time, but I'll be back again! Thanks for a great breakfast!

What a nice breakfast spot. I tried the strawberry banana french toast along with pancakes eggs and bacon. It was all pretty tasty. Everything came out hot and fresh. The pancakes reminded me a bit of the old McDonalds hotcakes though(not sure if they still have them or not). The entire staff was attentive and beyond freindly. The enterior was not what I was expecting, it was updated nice and clean. Can't wait to come again to try other menu items, from the looks of things everyone around me were enjoying their meal as well.

Oh I am at lost for words. My review is torn. I will start with the positives. I have been here many times over the years and it's always consistent. The food is great. I usually eat a breakfast dish but the menu has many other selections. The best part is the pie! Lots of pies to choose from! Chocolate peanut butter cup being my favorite. The service is always great! My drink is always full and my food is fast. The waitresses are always friendly too. So what is the problem? I was seated next to the kitchen tonight. Straight view to the cooks and the end of the food window. I was nearly in shock at what I saw. None of the cooks were wearing gloves! They were touching all kinds of food with bare hands! Waffles straight to the plate, handfuls of fries into the fryers, toast in the toasters, food into the microwave! One cook grabbed what looked like grilled cheese and started eating it while he was cooking. Another cook grabbed a filthy rag and used it to wipe his spatula. I was appalled at all that I saw. Having worked in a restaurant, proper food handling should be a number one priority. To put it in perspective imagine a customer sneezes, the waiter clears the glass they just touched, and then goes and puts your toast in the toaster! Despite being a good restaurant, improper food handling is a major no no! Eat at your own risk! I WILL NEVER EAT HERE AGAIN!!!!

We didn't have to wait long to get a table. Place was clean and everyone is nice. I got a Cobb salad which was huge and banging!! Husband ordered pancakes and they were huge too! They have great looking pies had it not been so crowded at the front counter I would have bought one. We will try this place again next time we are in town.

Where's the pie? Don't you worry it's right here! Strawberry Rhubarb pie is delicious, and the French toast some of the best next to what grandma use to make! The service is wonderful I've never had an issue and yes you might have to wait but it's usually not too long :)

We've been going to Village Inn for years & we love it. We love the breakfast menu especially the French skillet with hollandaise sauce and the country fried chicken skillet. We like the no smoking in the entire restaurant & the TV 'S in the corners. I highly recommend this place!

I've eaten here on several occasions. Never had a bad experience. The waitstaff is attentive but don't bug you. I get one of two things. Either the biscuits and gravy with eggs or the country fried steak skillet. Both I love. The only thing I've eaten and didn't like was the strawberry crepe. The strawberry didn't taste fresh. On a better note. I love the coffee. Not too strong not too weak. The pies are great too. I've tried a few different ones and loved them all. Give this place a try. I would NEVER go to an IHOP or Dennys over this place.

Today we had breakfast at Village Inn. It was so much better than the last four or five times we've eaten there. The omelette was fluffy and cheesy and hot and the hashbrowns were crispy and hot. There has been so much improvement recently. Wow!

The food was great and so was the customer service! It was a really comfortable place to go in sit down and have a cup of coffee and something to eat. You get what you pay for in terms of portions. I walked out full and satisfied!

Wow, I have driven past this place a bigillion times and everyone has told me how good it is. I do not know why I have not gone sooner. We went for a late Sunday afternoon breakfast. The restaurant is clean but a little dated our waitress was very friendly and on top of everything from the get go. The food was really good! Eggs cooked perfectly, hash browns fresh and crispy and no grease and the french toast was out of this world. The cakes and pies looked really yummy so we finished off with a piece of key lime pie, it was really good, not too tart nor too sweet and the crust was light. I will be going back.

Believe it I didn't go here for breakfast...I had dinner there. It's next to where I attend school, so at least one of my dinners each week is from here. I always, always get the bacon cheeseburger. It is so good. I like it better than Kellys, Five Guys and other burger places...it's that good. I always get it to go, so I don't have a chance to take in the surroundings..but the front staff is very friendly.

Service is nothing out of ordinary. Food is okay. Price is okay. The total turn-off for me was when i saw the person assigning tables sneezed in front of everybody in the waiting area, he covered his mouth/nose with his hand but did not wipe or clean his hand before continuing his work. I wondered if he'd be doing the same when he actually handle the food.....and the tables are TOO close to each other.

Wait was about 35-45 minutes. With such a line, I was expecting phenomenal food and service. After our brunch of double burgers, french toast, omelet, onion rings, and fruit bowl, the final verdict is 3stars for food, 4stars for service, and 3stars for ambience. Price is reasonable but the 5 "hombres" burger is much tastier.

It's a must every time I come to virgina beach... Long lines on the weekends, but moves fast and totally worth it. French toast is outstanding! Omelettes are also great.

I always look for dust and dirt in places, if you can see it up front then you csn imsgine the kitchen. NONE HERE! Im not sire how they keep it so clean, or how they make the food come out so fast! Breakfast lunch or dinner I havent been let down in 5 years! On a friday night I love how the old and young congregate here both switching role.. with major debates on the tables of the young and laughter and carring on of the old.

I really go here mostly for the pies. But the food is delicious as well, I'd much rather come here when my husband wants a breakfast then IHOP. The service can be incredibly slow, even when the restaurant is less then a quarter full but I've never had a problem getting in & out quickly.

My brother and I went here for breakfast this morning. Great place. Host was very friendly, we were seated quickly and our waitress was attentive. Menu is standard, nothing fancy or inventive, and our breakfast was good - eggs, French toast and the shredded hash browns. A little pricier than others ($30 with tip for the two of us). Looking for a good breakfast with friendly staff and good food, go to the Village Inn.

Maybe I'm spoiled by local mom and pop joints, but Village Inn just doesn't live up to the hype... Or the long lines. The service could be better, the food could be better, and any place I have to send eggs back twice to ensure they're cooked just to end up not eating eggs doesn't deserve my stars! I've been here a handful of times and the only reason I'm giving 3 stars is because their coffee really hits the spot.

I have had many a meal here over the years and you can count on always walking out of here comfortably fed. The food and service no matter the middle of the day or wee hours of the morning is always top notch. It's definitely better than other restaurants of it's type like Denny's, IHOP and Silver Diner. As a bonus one of the things I've always enjoyed about Village Inn is coming in here when the bar's are closing. The crowd can be quite entertaining and its just fun people watching while having your breakfast skillet. Their entire menu is available all day and knowing my love of breakfast foods that's a huge plus. My favorite meal here is the Ultimate Skillet. This thing is so damn good it should be a crime not to finish the thing. Check them out. They're on Independence Blvd between the Pembroke One building and Exxon. Right across from Pembroke Mall.

My husband and I recently moved to Virginia Beach from Michigan. We always had breakfast at a Coney Island on Sunday morning so we looked for a place here. I drove past this place several times and noticed the packed parking lot...all of the time, good sign. We went this morning. It was a Sunday at ten am. The wait was short, the service was wonderful, thank you, Josh. My husband had the chicken fried steak meal which included eggs, grit and pancakes. This will be a regular Sunday morning stop for us.

Tried Village Inn for the first time over the weekend. My husband and I had been eager to try it since moving to the Virginia Beach area a few months ago. Our (first) server's name was Jordan and he was amazing. If this review was based solely on his service, I'd give them five stars. He was VERY polite and attentive. Unfortunately for us, he went on his break right after our food came out. He told us that another server, Mandy, was going to take care of us while he was away. False. She didn't acknowledge us once! My family of four had empty drinks the entire time she was supposed to be "taking care of us." She didn't check to make sure the food was ok, see if we needed refills, ask if we wanted dessert, NOTHING! Her lack of service put a bad taste in our mouths. The food really was good, I enjoyed every bite. I honestly don't know that we will return though. If you can guarantee our server will either 1. be Jordan or 2. NOT be Mandy, we may.
