So I went here for lunch today solo. I had the hunger for sushi but not wanting to spend a fortune. The main thing with this place is value. For 16$ (Tip included) and drink. You can't deny the value per dollar of this place. I easily ordered around 10 items. Which would have been around 60$ in most places. Is it mind blowing amazing sushi? No, is it crappy super market plastic container sushi? No it's not that either. It's in the middle and that's not a bad thing. This is the kind of place you want to go when you want to order a lot of sushi and just stuff yourself silly but not pay the usual price for it. I was watching a couple in-front of me order plate after plate, must have been about 20 orders, they were just crushing it, and they were skinny as a rail, sigh curse you Sicilian fat man DNA! If i did that they would have to make me part of the establishment because they would never get me out of there. It was very clean inside. The salad bar and miso station aren't amazing but I tried a few items and they were not bad. It's very large inside. And the servers are very attentive and come to you often. I think it's location ( in a shopping center, next to a food lion) keeps it from getting as much traffic as it should. I'd come back here again, for the same reason I came here today. Cheap sushi. I'd imagine the dinner menu changes a bit. So id be interested in that.

This place is good to an extent. It is affordable sushi and Japanese food. It's clean decor on the inside is nice outside it kind of looks like a dump but don't let it fool you. Waiters can be slow at times but it's good eats.

When we arrived I was disappointed because I thought it was a buffet but we decided we would go on any way. I was wrong it is a very nice and relaxing restaurant. It is an all u can eat bit there is a waiter to take your order. The food is top notch as well as the service. I will definitely be recommending this place!

  • Maria J.

AMAZING!! Great food @ a decent price!! The whole menu is all u can eat, but not sitting out on a bar. All made to order, except the salad bar. And there is a kid's menu with kids friendly prices.

No one is more surprised than I that I would love a buffet .... especially a sushi buffet ....but this is not a typical buffet! The sushi is freshly prepared for you and the rolls are fresh and creative! And you simply cannot beat the The value of $18 for all you can eat (dinner menu). I really don't know why there is not a line forming outside every night but that's ok...just means I don't have to wait in line !

I really like this place! My boyfriend and I decided to try it because we've heard fairly good reviews about it. The place itself is pretty big. I was surprised to see how spacious the restaurant is. There's also a private section in the back, which is pretty cool if you want to have a party there. The bathroom is actually pretty clean, which is plus! As far as food goes, I thought it was really good. C'mon guys, it's $15.99 for all you can eat sushi! I'm not expecting super high quality sushi.. If I wanted that, I would NOT go to an all you can eat sushi place! What I would recommend is the steak hibachi! I thought it was so good, I ordered seconds. Also, they have a self-serve salad / soup bar which I think is awesome. I was a total noob and tried to order miso soup! They also have a great selection of sushi rolls! They also have dinner specials written on a board, so make sure to check it out. All in all, It's definitely my favorite all-you-can eat sushi in the area, at the moment! We will definitely be coming back!

Delicious all you can eat sushi! The outside looks a little sketchy but it's actually very nice and big inside. They have a wide variety of rolls to choose from and appetizers and hibachi. I like the gyoza here a lot. Good, quick service. Will keep coming back.

I've been to this location multiple times and have been glad with the experience. If all the times I have been I have only had to wait once for about ten minutes to be seated. Aside from that we usually walk in and are seated then. The servers are friendly and try to be as quick as possible with fulfilling your request. They bring your drink fast and do not have to be asked to have them refilled. As for orders that all depends on how crowded the place is. If you go during peak hours expect to wait a bit longer in between your orders. If you know what you want go ahead and order it all so you can space it out. The food is always good no matter what time I go. I always like to try rolls I haven't tasted before. The menus states whether the rolls are raw or cooked along with what consists in the roll. I personally love Je to eat rolls with raw fish and I have never been disappointed. All in all its a good place to eat!

I may go back just to eat my money's worth of seaweed & cucumber salad, dress-your-own miso soup, fresh fruit and steamed shrimp - all included in the AYCE price. Steamed shrimp, people! They were just the slightest bit overcooked, but still tasty! Also ordered: Steamed shumai - good, but not hot enough from the kitchen. Spicy shrimp bite - good review from the better half. Volcano roll - one of the best in the area. A perfectly light amount of sauce. Rainbow roll - the tuna on top was some of the freshest we've seen. Delicious! Mermaid roll - good combo with lots of crisp cucumber. California roll - A good, safe choice. As I anticipated. Monkey something roll - Interesting inclusion of fried banana. Not the best. The sauce on top tasted like straight horseradish. All in all, a good experience with attentive, knowledgeable service. I only wish they'd use less rice. I do understand the point of doing so in an AYCE joint, but having to take half the rice off of every roll gets a little old after a while. Not annoying enough to keep me away. I'll be back! Of course, for those who enjoy such things, they have little mini slices of different cakes and ice cream.

Eh- Is how I would describe it. Sure you get a lot of sushi for the price, but I'd rather have one amazing roll than 10 eh rolls. But, maybe that's just me. I think they put waaaay too much rice on their sushi rolls.. more so than any other sushi place I've been to... I think its an obvious filler to make you not eat as much. The service blows every single time I've gone. I usually don't comment on servers but I feel like whoever hires the people there.. they don't train anyone.. they just put them out on the floor because every server I've ever had there just isn't good. They are clean. Sushi is made to order. However, I try to avoid that place. I still end up going because my husband loves the all you can eat aspect.

When this place first opened up, the sushi was pretty good for a buffet. However, I think they are starting to slack a bit. This is a good place to go if you're a beginner sushi eater, but this wouldn't be my top choice for a sushi place. The booths have glass dividers and you are literally sitting next to another party when the place is packed. The hostesses also seem to seat us around a lot of people even when there are many other tables available. The service is usually quick, which may explain why the sushi doesn't taste as good anymore. My favorite rolls are the shrimp tempura roll and the crazy monkey roll. I also get the shumai and hibachi steak. I love the salad bar because you can get appetizers like seaweed salad, Kani salad, garden salads and soup.

It's hit or miss with this business. I've gone with 2 other people and its been fine and I've also gone with a group and it's almost as if the wait staff is overwhelmed. I like them better than the other plated sushi restaurant. Aside from the fact that they're a lil cheaper....their rolls are way better in my opinion. Someone mentioned their green tea wasn't good but I've had it before and it was fine for me. If you had a bad experience....give them another go....just be careful on the day & hour you choose to visit. Like I said....hit or miss but I definitely enjoy their sushi as opposed to Sakura. btw....they have a kids section!

  • Katrina C.

Appetizers! That is all you need to know. Ok, maybe not. The buffet is ridiculously inexpensive in comparison to other sushi buffet places. There is only one page of sushi rolls, so you won't feel as overwhelmed picking out the right ones. The salad and soup bar is pretty good when it's stocked. The fake crab meat salad tends to run out freaking fast. The service is mediocre. The girl that served us was pushy and rushed us. I understand it's a long wait for the rolls, but she didn't even give us an opportunity to read the damn menu. CHILLAX with that. It gets busy here on the weekends and at nights, so just be aware of some waiting. You can always grub on their salad/soup bar and their appetizers as you wait. The restaurant is as spacious as everyone claims. The rolls were nothing to rave about, except for the volcano. Everything else is "A-Ok." I didn't like the fact that there were no sashi's on the menu. Not even as a la cart. I prefer not to over carb it with the rolls, but that's just me.

This place is amazing! They completely started the all you can eat sushi made to order revolution here in va! Although they constantly raise there price on a monthly basis, they maintain quality and continue to strive for perfection!

Hard to believe this used to be a Roses... I went to Sushi King this past weekend for a family function. I'm giving the place 3-stars because I don't believe that the staff can handle big functions. My 7-year-old niece didn't get her food. My uncle, who sat three tables away from us, never got his food either. The way that they brought out the food was ridiculous... they should have had servers assigned to each table. We got someone else's sushi order. It's definitely a miscommunication with the servers and the kitchen. Also, the servers looked like they had an attitude - like they didn't want to serve a big party. I only got ONE refill the whole time I was there and that's ridiculous! A lot of the people that were there had never been to Sushi King and from what I gathered, most of the people that I talked to will not make a return trip because of the service. I will say that they had a nice spacious room for a big party, if anyone would like to host a party there. And it looked clean. The food was okay. I ventured to give sushi a try again and I admit, I liked their sushi better than Yukkai's. But their customer service is AWFUL. The servers need to learn how to SMILE. And be better prepared for a big party.

Sushi King is a real example of a diamond in the rough. The almost cheesy exterior doesn't do justice for the large and elegant insides of this restaurant. Sushi King deserves it claim to fame as the "largest hibachi and sushi restaurant in town". There are so many beautiful elements to this place and the most beautiful is the food. The all you can eat sushi buffet is less than $15.00 (depending on the time of day you go) and is most definitely worth your money. This includes appetizers, entrees and the large selection of sushi. From my experiences everything is made fresh and comes out hot when you order. I love the gyoza and shumai dumplings before my delectable choice of sushi. The best way to have Sushi King is with a small to medium group of friends. If everyone gets the buffet you can taste a little bit of everything while passing around plates. I have yet to try all the rolls and therefore haven't picked a favorite but the presentation of the Volcano and the taste of the Sea Angel are both impressive enough to be ordered on your first visit.

The service was pretty good. Ive been to quite a few sushi spots and this was some of the best sushi I've had in Virginia. All u can eat sushi for 15 bucks.

  • Jessica F.

Yum! This is my kind of sushi "buffet". For $13.98, you truly get an all you can eat sushi experience but with a twist. You won't be grabbing a plate and hoarding as many pieces as you can from a pre made tray. Here, you are given a menu and order exactly what you want and it is made fresh. The roll menu is extensive and even the appetizers were delicious. I loved the beef Yakisoba. There is also a small garden bar that includes soup, shrimp and oysters. You can order as many times as you like but they do tell you on the menu to not waste the food. They will charge you extra for wasted food. We came around 3:30 p.m. which seemed a good time as the restaurant was fairly quiet. I can imagine that the busy dinner hour can make the wait time for rolls a little longer. I definitely walked (waddled?) away full and happy.

UPDATE: My wife and I have decided to give up on Sushi King. We had a coupon from a Food Lion receipt and they wouldn't honor their own coupon even though it hadn't expired. The manager made a big stink about it, so we're writing them off. SEE UPDATE ABOVE! Being the sushi lovers that we are, my wife and I had been looking forward to visiting this new Sushi King. We decided to go for the lunch buffet and we were extremely pleased. The food was plentiful, fresh and tasty. The buffet menu was pretty big and comes with a soup and salad bar. Their service was prompt, friendly and thorough. As an added bonus you can see the chef's making the food, which always makes me feel better. This place is very clean, very spacious and new. They've already had their first health inspection and passed with flying colors. As long as they keep this up, I'll definitely come back. Good Job Sushi King. My recommendations are the Crazy monkey roll and the Saints roll. My wife recommends the Saints roll and the Volcano roll...... Enjoy!

We first came to this local sushi spot on opening day and just started coming back. We were happy to see that the owner recognized our family's return. This time we knew we had to order off the Specials Menu. It's located on the board before entering the dining area. The peppered tuna tataki and yellowfin jalapeño were so delicate and tasty. We also ate from the self serve salad and raw bar. Cooked shrimp and raw oysters were good as was the miso soup. Ordered a variety of sushi pieces, cooked apps, a couple of rolls, and a few kitchen items. The rice taste and consistency were on point. I really wish we could order sashimi rather than sushi pieces (like some of their competitors offer). One of our favorites was the curry shrimp ( a menu special). The flavor was so delicious and the shrimp cooked perfectly. Ended the night with a cup of Luigi's sherbet. Decor pretty, service and customer service were great! Left stuffed and happy once again. FYI - a full bottle of cold Fugi Apple Hana Sake was only $13.50

For $15, and quality sushi, you can't beat this place. Not to mention the salad bar which has oyster, crab salad, and seaweed salad among other things. Plenty of options on the menu, and service is fast. We've tried other sushi places in VA beach but my problem with sushi is that you spend $20 but only get to try two rolls usually. This place, I average about 5 rolls and a non-sushi entree, and two trips to the salad bar. It's gotten so bad that I made a list of the stuff I order lol Highly recommend the Crazy monkey roll.

All you can eat sushi for 11.99 at lunch . It's good sushi too . They have a salad bar the includes some shell fish and dessert. The appetizers are really yummy especially the gyoza .. It was fried perfectly . They have hibachi also which is included in the all you can eat . Definitely will be back !!

You can't beat the selection, the freshness and the price. I have been here more than a dozen times and all their rolls, appetizers and salad bar items are fresh and super flavorful. I am willing to pay top dollar for sushi and have been to many places in the area that are billed as "the best sushi" and they come up short when compared to Sushi King.

I went there for the first time last week and I have to say I was somewhat impressed. The service when we went was very friendly and alright as far as being timely. I had the spicey tuna roll, and the shrimp and crab thingies that were quite tasty. It wasn't until I asked if they served miso soup that we were informed about the salad bar which has self serve soup bar where you can add as much or as little tofu and seaweed as you want, a plus. The atmosphere is really nice and it filled up quickly when we got there late afternoon. I'll go back again to see if there is a need to change my rating.

Sushi King is relatively new, only 2 months. I am hoping that it only gets better. We have been for lunch and for dinner. The menu is a little limited, but they do have some unusual choices that were excellent. The service is jet fast and friendly. I was disappointed with the boston roll, because to me that is super easy, but everything else was great. Portions of tempura and edamame are excellent. We will definitely go back! I hope that they expand their menu options and include more choices. The inside of the place is beautiful and excellent.

While I do love their sushi and noodles.... it's not quite worth $16.+ a person. IMO. They were $20 a person when they first opened and then went down on their price for a while but they recently raised it up to $16. When I either make more money or they come down a few dollars is when we'll go there regular again. My family hasn't actually been in a while because of the cost. The service is great and the wait staff is really good. I do recommended it, but not for my budget right now.

Five words: All. You. Can. Eat. Sushi. Not only is the price SUCH a bargain for the portions, Sushi King is not like typical sushi buffets that have the sushi pre-made where you go serve yourself. After you're seated, the servers take your order and the sushi is made fresh and brought out to you as a beautiful presentation. Everything on the menu is fair game for the buffet: appetizers, salad bar, entrees, various sushi rolls, and desserts. The wait in between servings was a bit long at times but that's understandable considering everything is made to order and also depends on how hungry you are and can seem longer than it really is. I'll definitely be back the next time I'm visiting Virginia Beach!

Love love love!! My all-time favorite place to go for sushi. The price is outstanding as well as the sushi and variety. I come so often the staff recognizes me when I come in, always very helpful!

I came here with a big group for dinner after church. The place is nicely decorated and the the place was very accommodating to seat us all. Next, we ordered a bunch of food as this is buffet style. It took forever for the food to come, but you can still grab some food - mostly seafood and soup at the buffet bar. I got some crab legs (a personal favorite) and started cracking away. The meat was so watery that you can't enjoy the flavor at all. After finally getting my food, I was unimpressed with how the shrimp tempura tasted. The breading tasted like shake and bake. The sushi was just okay. I don't expect fantastic things to eat whenever I go to buffet, but I've definitely had better at Kagura and Sakura.

Value: A+. Winter special of $12.95 for all you can order and eat? Sign me up. Quality: B+. The salad is basically iceberg and sits in a sad little bowl filled with water. But I don't go to Sushi King for salad. The maki rolls are generous, made well, but definitely more suited for a cautious palate - no exploration of flavor combinations or many raw options. Nigiri is again, not bad. The hot plates (teriyaki, katsu) are quite good, and the fried rice is filling (warning!) Selection: Love the fact that there is a large menu, even for lunch, but the rolls really don't offer a ton of variation, usually containing avocado and or kani. Would have loved to see more variety of fishes, sauces, and accoutrements.

For 16$ I eat a S^%$ ton of Sushi. Service is like most said mediocre, however I don't care. I'm not there to chit chat with you, I'm there to eat. My husband and I go regularly we enjoy the atmosphere and the wide selection of Sushi choices. Try the place for yourself and decide, it is worth the money. Be smart about when you go, this place gets busy!

I had heard about this place from a coworker and the Yelp reviews gave me the extra push to try it out. For $13.98 (drink not included), it's a better value than other sushi joints that offer "all you can eat." Arrival/Ordering: We went on a Thursday night. This place has much more space than other sushi restaurants we've been to. Didn't have to wait long before being seated. Nice decor; the dividers between booths have those detailed cork relief sculptures but you can see right though to the other booth, so don't stare! Haha. Our waitress greeted us almost immediately and took our drink orders. When she returned with the drinks, she took our orders for food. Food: There's a soup and salad bar around a corner near the registers. I helped myself to miso soup (didn't see any tofu for it, which made me sad), seaweed salad and cucumber salad. The seaweed salad was typical--I think I could buy the same kind from Costco. Sushi: A big downer for me was the fact that they don't have sashimi on the menu. The rolls were slightly smaller than what I've eaten elsewhere, even at another AYCE buffet, but they were still good. The chicken teriyaki was okay--not served on the sizzling hot iron plate that we're accustomed to seeing and was more of chicken with teriyaki sauce on it. Edamame was just right. Dessert: They have ice cream cups and slices of pecan pie and another pie (key lime?). There's also some fruit on the salad bar. Overall: Would go again. The waitress was attentive and kept our table clutter-free. They must clean the place often because I could smell bleach for the entire time we were there. With its dinner price of $13.98, it definitely beats the other places we've been.

So when I saw this place had 14.00 all you can eat ...I was already to try this place since most sushi buffets I've seen are 20 bucks+..so as far as the food it was good for 14 I expected low quality but that was not the case ...I was a little bummed no sashimi all sushi and sushi rolls a lot of rice in the rolls so you can fill up real easily. The service was ok..the place didn't look to busy and waitress didn't come as often as I thought she should have. On the whole the place is ok I will probably be back..

Best service, best food, best atmosphere in a restaurant in Hampton roads. We always enjoy ourselves completely and have been many many times without a single bad experience. Fresh delicious food, even our non sushi eating family and friends always leave full and satisfied with the many offerings. The servers always remember us and are very patient even when we have our messy little ones with us! Beautiful decor also. Clean restrooms. Even the takeout is packaged in an attractive manner. Great place!

I feel very mislead by my fellow yelpers. I was expecting this place to be top notch in the ayce sushi dept. I was super disappointed! We got there and the decor is immaculate. Very easy on the eyes very clean. My waiter was very nice and polite. But the sushi takes me back to my Norfolk sushi days. I thought they were over!! I ordered a plethora of spicy rolls. But they all tasted exactly the same. My daughter got the Christmas roll the shrimp tempura and a salmon roll. They all looked appetizing but she was willing to share with her younger sisters...need I say more. If she is willing to share you know it's not that good. Because she is a sushi hoarder. Maybe my hopes were too high. But I thought I really did my research on this place. But the quality of the rice and the fish plus the excess of Siracha and mayo...I just cannot deal. I would not recommend this place. There are much much much better ayce sushi places in the area.

I used to be totally against all you can eat sushi places because sushi is all about quality. I felt like there was no way an all you can eat place would be able to provide the same level of quality as a normal made to order sushi restaurant. Sushi King proved me wrong. While I've definitely had better sushi before, I can't deny that for the price, Sushi King is the best way to get your sushi fix. They have a wide variety of both kitchen entrees, sushi rolls, and specialty rolls. They also have varying specials, a salad bar and some selection of desserts. There price has gone up since I first started going here from $10 to now $16. But even with he price increase you still get your money's worth. At traditional sushi places, a 2pc sushi order costs $2. I can eat 14 pieces on my worst day. This would cost me $28 at a normal sushi place compared to $16 at sushi king. And of course I eat much more than that. I really can't justify eating anywhere else for sushi now because I have not found one that is worth the price. I don't mind paying a lot for sushi but I want to be able to taste the quality different if I'm paying that much. In Hampton Roads I just haven't found a place like that yet. I go here quite often and is usually my first pick when I want sushi. I always bring out of town guests here as well. I will say that at certain times orders can take a long time. I feel like they can be understaffed so that can be frustrating sometimes. Overall a good go-to place for all your sushi desires!

This will be my first and last time here. I decided to try this place since it was the time of day when my go-to sushi restaurant was closed. BIG MISTAKE. I was craving sashimi and figured I could get a decent amount of sashimi for the $16.99 price. How bad could it be, right? Unfortunately, they do not offer sashimi. You must order sushi (nigiri) and are warned to eat the rice so that extra charges will not apply. I ordered one order of escolar (white tuna), saba (mackerel), salmon, and red tuna. The sushi was warm and flavorless. I also ordered two special rolls. Again, I was warned that each roll was large and asked if I would be able to handle it. Anyway, I can only remember the name of one, which was the worst of the two. The Evil Mind Roll had shrimp tempura, cream cheese, eel, and was covered in eel sauce. This by far is the worst eel sauce I have ever tasted. I wiped off as much sauce as I could and drowned it in soy sauce to be able to eat it. The other roll wasn't as awful, but I did use much more soy sauce than I usually do. Lastly, I ordered some edamame, which is pretty hard to mess up. The edamame had a strange odor, but I still ate them. Let's just say I have been paying for what I ate since I left. Although I prefer traditional sushi bars, I have been to several all you can order/eat sushi buffets and this by far is the worst. I am surprised that it is so popular. Needless to say I DO NOT RECOMMEND this place.

This is another sushi buffet type place. They have a small salad bar and your sushi is made to order. Upon entering, the place is fairly clean, typical Asian decor and ample seating. The seating is mostly booths with some tables that have chairs along one side and benches on the other. Who doesn't like the comfort of a booth versus hard seating? One of my pet peeves is a dirty bathroom. The bathroom in here was worthy of noting. It was extremely clean and smelled clean as well. The salad bar had a decent assortment of salad and soup items to choose from in addition to shrimp, other side dishes, and desserts. The server was nice and took great care in checking on us to make sure we had everything we needed. The sushi was pretty good. You could tell it was all freshly made. The only thing I have to make mention of is that after eating there, I woke up in the middle of the night with a terrible migraine that my meds barely touched. I had to wonder if they use MSG in their food since that is one of the triggers for my headaches. The following day when I spoke with my son, he said that he, too, had experienced a whopping headache from the food. I mention this because if anyone has any food allergies, they may consider asking before eating there. I would consider eating there again; however, I would ask for an allergen menu or inquire about the ingredients in the foods I wanted to order. Other than that, the food was pretty good and well worth the flat rate of $16.99 for all you can eat.

As an ODU college student, I always went to the Sushi King in Norfolk. I had almost forgotten what the one here was like. I must say I definitely found the favorite. It was Valentine's Day and I decide to third wheel with my parents. We are immediately seated regardless of how busy it was. We were immediately tended to by a waitress and got our drink orders as we looked over the menus. My parents had never gone before, but the waitress explained how the restraint worked very well. We first order the appetizers. There aren't many per order which is the only downside, but it's an all you can order restaurant! We then order the sushi rolls. As we waited, we helped ourselves to the salad bar filled with many delicious foods. I'm even salivating just thinking of the salad bar! The food came out in decent time and it was definitely worth it. The sushi was delicious and the presentation made it even more appealing. My personal favorites were the Volcano Roll and the Spicy Tuna Roll. Of course I'm a spicy fanatic so only get those if you don't mind spicy! My mom doesn't usually like sushi, but I could tell she enjoyed what she ordered. Halfway through our course we had to switch tables due to an overflow of guests, but the manager was so nice about it and even offered a discount for the inconvenience. I definitely recommend this place if you even like sushi a little bit. They even have other entrees for kids as well as those that don't enjoy sushi just in cause you have a friend in the group that doesn't eat sushi for some bizarre reason!

It's not a buffet, but it is all you can eat sushi and when it's quality, that's a good thing. Service was good. I arrived towards the end of the lunch hour, so it was a little slow when it started as there were a lot of people ordering. But as my meal progressed, most folks packed up and left, leaving me with fewer customers and less waiting for my refills. Simple enough. You get a menu that you keep for your visit. You place orders. They bring you sushi. You eat the sushi. And if you want more, you order more and eat more. As long as you keep eating, they'll keep bringing you more freshly made-to-order rolls and sushi. All for a fixed price. I had four or so rolls as well as a couple pieces. I'm silly, but sometimes I want a crab stick or two. And some masago always goes down well. Try the "Crazy Monkey Roll" - fried banana topped with crab and eel. Good stuff! And yes, there are choices for folks who don't want raw fish that include fried rice, teriyaki chicken and noodle bowls. And chicken nuggets and corn dogs for the little ones.

Get the volcano roll, sea angel roll, hibachi chicken, crazy monkey. This shit hit, we come here like once a week it's so good.

This AYCE sushi restaurant is pretty decent. It's not the greatest sushi, but for not a lot of money, you can definitely get stuffed. They have lunch and dinner buffets. A white board at the front displays some off menu kitchen items available exclusively to just dinner hours. Soup and salad bar is self serve, as well as the ice cream fridge. It just tends to lack in consistency. On some occasions I've eaten here, my food was very delicious. Other times it'll just be ok, or some items come out much more plain, or overly salted and peppered. I guess it's a hit or miss, but nothing unbearable or disgusting. In a nutshell, I'll say Sushi King is the place to go when I'm thinking quantity of sushi rather than quality of sushi, at a decent price. It's not that the sushi is bad, but I'd definitely go elsewhere when interested in more quality and flavor. But when I'm craving variety, I don't mind hitting up Sushi King

I have been hard pressed to find any excellent sushi since I've been in VA. I found a place that I do like a lot- Hanaki Sushi in Chesapeake, whose sushi is excellent - but it is a bit too far of a drive for me to make regularly. I was frequenting Sakura at Princess Anne and Lynnhaven (they also have all you can eat sushi but for 21.95 per person) but decided to check this place out after I found it here on yelp... And I think I've found my new go-to for AYCE sushi! We started off with the pepper tuna tataki and the jalapeño yellowtail and both were great. They didn't taste fishy and were quite delicious. We had four different special rolls from the menu and then I had them make me a custom roll, which they did without a problem. Sakura has better salad and soup, but you don't go to a sushi joint for that, do you? I know I don't. The soup and salad here are satisfactory and that's fine by me. You get them yourself from the salad bar, but everything else here is ordered and served like at any other restaurant. I was impressed by the quality of the fish; better than any other AYCE or buffet sushi I've ever had. I will definitely be back and will be referring friends and family here as well. For the 16.99/head price point ($5 for kids 3-6), the price and quality can't be beat.

One of the best all you can eat Sushi joints I think. The sushi is made fresh to order. They have a very large menu of not just sushi or sashimi. You can also get cooked dishes and appetizers. They have a great soup and salad bar available as well. It's so worth the money. The decor is nice. The seating is plenty. The staff is always friendly and nice. One of my regular spots for sure! Try the crab bites and cheese wontons, you won't regret it!

The sushi is actually pretty good for an all-you-can-eat place. They have quite a variety of options to choose from. They have appetizers, kitchen items, and, of course, a lot of sushi choices. You can order as much as you want from the menu and keep ordering until you're full. The place is very clean and big. They have a lot of booths for seating. The thing I don't like, though, is that some of the booths are separated by glass dividers. So if someone is seated in the next booth over, it's basically like you're sitting next to strangers. The servers aren't usually that friendly. They're polite, but they mostly just take your order and serve you your food. Not a bad thing, but I usually like when servers are more engaging. Overall, I do like the place. I've been a few times and will likely go again. It's a pretty affordable option for getting all the sushi you want. It's just not my first choice for sushi.

This is a great place to go to if you're really hungry and craving sushi! Everything here is all you can eat. I was really surprised how good the food is here. For example, the beef fried rice is so delicious! The beef is really good quality. Shrimp Tempura Roll was really good as well. Great selection of sushi and hand rolls here. The restaurant is huge! There's plenty of room for people to be seated at. Service can be slow at times. I waited for quite some time after placing my second order. There was one time where I placed another order for beef fried rice, and that order never came. It was really disappointing. They were busy the night I came here, so maybe they forgot? But still, you should never forget a customer's order, no matter what. Overall, this is a great place to eat at. They have another Sushi King location in Richmond.

I don't get it. I don't understand why everyone loves this place or why there are so many great reviews. Yes, it is all you can eat sushi off of a menu and yes, it is cheap... But that's about it. If you don't care for good quality fish and only care about quantity than I guess this is the perfect restaurant. I'm sure they have a phenomenal volcano roll. However, if you like "real" sushi (the raw stuff) and you know what fresh tuna is supposed to taste like, I wouldn't recommend this place.

  • Tanya L.

Ummmm, no. I like that they have a little appetizer salad bar, a freezer of individually packed ice cream, and that the sushi is made to order. The staff was very nice too. However, the sushi was more rice than anything. I left feeling like we ate half a rice-cooker. I'm starting to tire (and be leery) of the AYCE sushi joints, but still would favor Sakura (on Lynnhaven and now across from the Oceana commissary) over any of the places here in HR.

Nice place, very clean. The menu has changed about three times since it opened, in the beginning they had sashmi but ended doing away with it. Food is always fresh and the bar has dome basic items, which is enough to hold you over until your good arrives.

So my boyfriend and I were feeling hefferish last night so we decided to go here. It was my first time; his second time. $15.99 all you can eat? Sure why not! The place is nicely decorated and very spacious! We were welcomed nicely and seated pretty quickly, which was great because we were both really hungry. Our server, Michael, was aight. Either he was speaking too softly/quickly, or I'm just getting old and deaf. I felt rushed to give my order, but the quick arrival of our food made up for it :) 2 orders of gyoza (You get 4 per order. A tad crunchy - just the way I like it. Delicious.) 2 orders of the shrimp tempura (Meh, my boyfriend liked it, but it was whatevs to me. You get 2 per order) 2 orders of the beef fried rice (beef was good, but i felt like something was missing?) 1 order of shrimp fried rice (it's okay) King Roll (pretty good), Las Vegas Roll (meh - the cream cheese saved it), Orchard Roll (yum! the tempura crunchy stuff was awesome), and Volcano Roll (not bad, but not amazing either) 1 order of Beef Yakisoba (oh my goodness gracious, this was delicious. Wish I had more room in my belly to have ordered more!) The menu wasn't too overwhelming (literally one page for food items), and if you have little ones who may be hard to feed, you can order them some chicken nuggets and fries, hehe. There's also a salad bar, soup station, dessert/fruit bar and a freezer filled with ice cream goodness! It's located in a corner, which I had to look for by pretending to look for the bathroom, haha. Boyfriend got salad and we both got miso soup, which wasn't bad! Following our meal, we devoured some pineapple (to help with digestion, woah!) and some raspberry/lemon sherbet. We had to sit in our booth for a good 15 minutes because we couldn't move. Seemed like we came in at a pretty good time on a Friday night because a buttload of people were waiting to be seated. I wouldn't say Sushi King is amazeballs, but for the price, quality of food, and service, it's good. I would come back and take my family next time ... maybe for lunch though because it's cheaper then, haha!

The food at Sushi King was tasty and well prepared. The atmosphere was nice and friendly. The price for the buffet is reasonable. The only thing I would recommend is for their kitchen staff to work on their wasabi. When I tried it, it felt like clay. :x

My server Kevin was sweet with a great smile. Even complimented me on my watch and asked what brand it was, then thanked me for sharing the information with him. I explained that this was my first visit. Kevin was a great server for a first timer-explaining the process in detail with a great personality. The establishment is huge inside and beautiful withe an excellent balance of modern and traditional elements. All of the hard smooth elements shine either as a property of their materials or because everything was so clean. In regards to decor I'm fond of the lanterns hanging above each seating area, the high backed luxurious looking booths, the faux leather high-back chairs and the intricate "wooden" Japanese landscapes sandwiched between the two glass panes separating the rows of booths. I like that the staff wear all black and that the servers and hostess wear ties. The ladies wear colored ties while the gents wear black ties. Seeing a couple holding hands over the table made me think this could be a spot for a date. Although I have no interest in a sushi first/early on date. I find nothing sexy, or visually appealing about shoving roll pieces into ones mouth across from someone your trying to wow. Then shoving this thing to the side trying to break it down into more manageable pieces (yes I'm working on a shrimp tempura roll). For seem reason I visualize a cow masticating grass. Now if you're past all the cuteness, trying to eat a sushi roll all seductive like they do in the movies go for it. Food: I requested that my crab bite come without the spicy mayo (I have an aversion to mayo based sauces). It came with mayo all over. And scraping mayo off tempura ain't no easy task. I later ordered another w/o mayo. Dry of course. I ate two small rolls, 6 crab & shrimp bites (meh) and seaweed salad. A decent workday lunch. I think there should be toothpicks at the table in sushi restaurants.

This buffet place was definitely good for the price they charged. Lunch Mon-Fri 11:00am - 3:00 pm ($11.98) Dinner Mon-Fri 3:00pm - 10:00pm ($15.99) Saturday 11:00am - 10:00pm ($15.99) Sunday 12:00pm -10:00pm ($15.99) MENU: sushikingva.com/menu.html Great for small groups, dim light setting. Don't forget soup/dessert (ice cream) bar on the side (in hallway)- ask if you don't see it.

Been coming here since they opened up a while back. AYCE sushi/ Japanese entree $16, price increased since they opened up. You have to eat everything you order or you will be charged. Food is fresh because they make it to order, so never had problems there. There are a variety of sushi to choose from, from the standard rolls, to speciality rolls to the raw sushi. And they have hibachi and teriyaki dishes too. The fried rice is good, I always make sure to get that! Oh they have a soup and salad bar and a few seafood that's included in the price but for some reason the staff never tells me about it...hmm? It's in the cut so you can't really see it from where the sitting area is so ask your waiter if they don't mention it.

I've been here a couple of times, and outside of the ridiculously low prices, it's just okay. It's tough to really get behind any AYCE sushi spot. The entire concept seems to contradict the entire art of sushi making and at some point has to compromise freshness and quality. But there is a draw to having any opportunity to eat sushi en masse for under $15. Yes, it's a low price - and that's even if you go for dinner. What I remember is that you can choose from two price menus - a $13.99 and an $11.99. The difference between the two is that the former gives you more choices than the latter. Like Sakura, they serve a la carte, so you tell the waitress which rolls you want, they make and serve, you eat and you can keep ordering until you're full. The menu is full of interesting rolls and all of them look good while you read them. And when the rolls do arrive they definitely look good. As far as the taste there are times when the fish isn't particularly flavorful. Sushi King's fish has never been rotten or anything of the sort. It's just that it doesn't slap you with amazing flavor when you try them. One interesting point of note - they do an inconsistent job keeping the wasabi fresh. The waitress will usually bring that and some ginger out with your order and on one occasion the wasabi was as hard as a rock. We had to ask for more, fresher wasabi because we didn't want to use that looked like it had been left out for a few hours. The service is pretty good and the decor is nice and inviting. Overall the place isn't a must-go, but I'd never turn down a chance to dine there if I'm nearby. But there are better sushi spots all over the area - this one just happens to be one of the most convenient. JV

It's your average non-Japanese owned/operated sushi joint. Fish tastes like it's farm raised. But what can you really expect at their prices? The methodology of any Asian restaurant is specific to the profit before occupancy equation. This means, servers are paid minimally, usually off the books. Chefs are also paid off the books, at a minimal rate as well. And quality of food is never exemplary. If you need more convincing on food quality, then check out the "build your own miso soup" bar. Dried seaweed and pre-cut green onions and tofu are there for the taking. This is the epitome of cost-saving. As far as the rolls go, they will fall apart on you. They also use a lot of sauces to add flavor due to the lack of flavor the fish provide. Dinner for 4, all you can eat, $70 before tip. Keep your expectations low...

Sushi king was excellent, especially to-go! The sushi itself was great, the specialty rolls and standard maki rolls were all very reasonably priced, and they tasted quite delicious. I feel we got stiffed a bit on getting enough ginger for the amount of sushi we received, but it was so great I couldn't complain. Despite getting take out, I'll have to say the restaurant was quite amazing for the 3 minutes I was inside to pickup our food. It reminded me of the interior of a really nice hotel. The interior had overall dark colors, yet was well lite and had a very clean feel to the place(it is brand new after all). The staff was also very courteous, and picking up our food was a painless and quick process. I will definitely be stopping in at SushiKing again.

This was by far the worst sushi experience of my life. Not only was the sushi horrible, but the service sucked. Also, a little gross seeing the servers walk through the seating area with trashbags and then deliver food to a table immediately after. The one good thing about this restaurant were the appetizers. They were quite good. However, my boyfriend and I tried a total of 7 rolls, and I found 3 to be totally gross, and 3 to edible, and one to be good. My boyfriend wasn't as grossed out, but he agreed none of the rolls were good. Please don't go here.

I have to say that I am extremely impressed with their restaurant. The inside is spacious, clean and beautiful. The staff is also extremely friendly and very welcoming. We never had a dirty plate on our table more than a minute. I have gone to other sushi establishments (Kagura) and not felt welcomed at all. That is important to me, to go out to dinner and feel as if you are welcomed there. Now, on to the menu! I am impressed at the menu. They have a little bit of everything. From a large salad bar with soups, and snow crab legs, oysters and peel and eat shrimp. I LOVE this! It gives you a little variety. Also i have to say that their hibachi shrimp was DELICIOUS! I normally don't go to sushi places and have cooked entrees but it was calling my name. It's just the right size. Also tried the gyoza, shumai, fried calamari, squid salad, and the cucumber salad. YUM!! The rolls I had were the King Roll, Shrimp Tempura Roll, Spider Roll, Rainbow Roll, Alaskan Roll, and the Philadelphia Roll which you can get with either smoked salmon or fresh salmon ( I chose the latter). My mom and I went and We split everything so that we could try a little bit of each roll! I love this place and will NEVER go back to Kagura and their horrible service and blah icky brown sauce they drown all their sushi in! I love the rolls at sushi king, plenty of fresh fish and you could actually taste it. I also had the salmon sashimi which was cut perfectly! Some places (Kagura) cut big thick sloppy hunks of salmon that are not edible. Sorry Kagura, you have been replaced! Ashley was our server and she was extremely friendly! She explained how the all you can eat worked and how the entire regular menu was the all you can eat! I was impressed! YOU HAVE TO CHECK THIS PLACE OUT! FAVORITE NEW SUSHI PLACE IN HAMPTON ROADS!

ok let's all be honest; not the best sushi I have ever had, BUT for the price and it being all you eat without it being a buffet where you need to get up and down and who knows who touched your food, this place is amazing! Go past that its next to a food lion or something and get inside very very clean and nice. There to serve you. And the steak hibachi is great too! Give this place a try for sure.

We weren't expecting too much from this place because we had a groupon. Not that all groupons are bad, but it's usually hit or miss. For $20 dollars you can order anything on the menu (accept kids stuff). And because it's considered buffet, you can keep ordering. It almost seemed too good to be true! We kept asking "we can get anything? it's all included in the buffet?" I even overheard the couple behind us ask the same thing. This place makes the sushi after you order it, so it's fresh. I got two rolls that were pretty good. The salad bar was also fresh and had everything I love: kani salad, seaweed salad, ginger salad, miso soup, etc. $20 dollars may be high, but you almost pay that much when you buy two specialty rolls at any other restaurant. The inside was also very nice, more like a restaurant than a sushi bar.

Definitely one of the better all you can eat sushi places I have been too. $16 for made to order all you can eat sushi, appetizers, and hibachi. They run different specials and the jalapeño yellowtail currently on special is also amazing!

Very nice decor and wait staff but I've had better food. First time we've ever seen calamari on a sushi menu...worst calamari I've ever had...tasted more like onion rings. The spider and dragon roll we order were ok but not great. The fruit was fresh and they had ice cream for the kids. Would we go back? Probably not.

Husband and I went in 930pm figured we would take it to go. It was our first time going in and was shocked how nice the place looked. As soon as I saw the price I was amazed how cheap it was being that sushi places are always a bit pricey. 6 pieces are only $2!! The sushi was great it didn't taste old at all. Thinking about going back today again, just can't resist!

I go here mostly for the hibachi steak. It's tender, juicy, and delicious. Do NOT get the curry chicken. It was AWFUL. Smelled sour, and the chicken was literally huge chunks of fat. The service could use some work.. but the sushi is amazing. My favorites are the volcano roll and the sea angel roll. Cheap, fresh, and yummy!

I've been to the Sushi King in Richmond a countless number of times, but this has been the best experience I've had! Although we went during the dinner rush, everything was so quick! We were seated immediately, because of the ample amount of seating in the restaurant. Each of our orders came out relatively quickly as well. There's not a huge difference between this restaurant and it's counterpart in Richmond, except for the fact that it's kitchen is located in the center. Also, instead of having soups and salads on the menu, you can get it yourself, buffet-styled. There are also a couple of different special rolls such as the Golden Lobster, Virginia Beach, Sea Fashion, and Oishi. Besides that, it's still AYCE, and the prices and quality of the food is the same. Of course, the fish aren't of great quality, but it's very decent for the price. My personal favorite is the Spider roll! Some tips: if you want to try more without overstuffing yourself, I believe you can ask to order half the serving size of any special roll. Also, don't over-order and not finish, or else they will charge you. I'm a fan of Sushi King, and I'll definitely be back next time I'm in the area!

excellent service fast service rolls vary in size portions of some items are small went to the little creek location 4 times because it was so good came to the one in centerville with a groupon to be regrettably informed by our server Rachel that they do not accept groupon sadly would have been nice to know that not ALL Sushi Kings accept groupons otherwise I would have taken my money else where

Don't get me wrong: the food is wonderful but I'm big on customer service. I wanted my church choir to have lunch there one Sunday and called ahead. The rude person at the restaurant told me that there were already two parties going there so we couldn't go there. He actually said that he would not seat any of us if we showed up. I said ok. He called and left me a voice message 5 minutes later saying that we better not go there because we will be turned away. I understand that you're busy but you could've ended the conversation courteously. Instead, this man chose to leave a mean message on my phone. We ended up going to Yukai instead. Ending to this story: a friend of mine went to Sushi King anyway because he had not heard that we changed restaurants. He said they were not even busy! I'm not sure what that worker was thinking when he called me but I felt it was sooooo rude to leave me a message after I understood his point. Two stars only for quality of food. But that was a rotten way to decline my party.

We treat ourselves to the buffet style Sushi King every once in a while mainly because our kids can pack away food and you just cant beat the price for the amount of food that you get. Only issue is that I feel like a fat slug after I leave. It is in a strip mall right next to a thrift store. So, not a high brow on the location meter. We have been to the Norfolk and Hampton locations and I think our family liked this one the best. First, for a buffet sort of place, this location had nice dark décor. They also had a salad bar and small desserts. The Norfolk location doesn't have this. They also had a slightly different menu. I like the spicy sushi rolls and they had one called the Ichiban roll that I really liked. My family likes to take samples of all different types of rolls and appetizers. It is a good learning experience. They also had steamed shrimp at the salad bar, and I tore into that. In addition, our waiter was super cool and very friendly. He interacted with my kids and it was just a pleasure when you run across someone who is friendly, appears to like his job or even if he didn't, he was still good to be around. I always ask my son to rate the bathrooms for Yelp and he gave this one a 3 star rating. When asked why, he told me that there was toilet paper all over the floor and that the water pressure was extremely weak on the sinks. I went to check it out myself and he was right. Not a bright spot for the restaurant, but overall it was a good experience.

I'm disappointed in this one. The food isn't exactly as good as the other sushi kings I have eaten at. Service was friendly and place was clean. But they could put more on the menu. I was hoping for Unagi Nigiri but they didn't have it. I wouldn't eat here again. But I give this place 3 stars for their cleanliness and service.

Second time here. First of all, the staff is very personable and friendly. Food wise the quality is definitely there. The value is also awesome as well. The octopus is soft and fresh. The masago was fresh as well. I really enjoyed speaking with the waitress and she definitely added to the experience. I will definitely be coming back here. Thanks for a great sushi buffet experience, Sushi King!

This place was just okay! The sushi had no flavor, so I'm guessing it's not very fresh. The salad bar was not that great. My salad tasted like water. The bathroom could've used a cleaning, toilet paper and paper towels on the floor. Our waitress Pauline was wonderful!! She was super nice and kept checking on us the whole time we were there! She kept our drinks filled! My husband loved it!! The kids loved it!! Would we return? I think so!

The food here was delicious! I came for lunch and loved ever sushi roll I was given. I feel lunch is a better value than dinner, because you're paying less for lunch buy receiving the same items. Each roll was delivered exactly as ordered, promptly and win a smile. I will definitely go back again.
