Mexican Cuisine
If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.

This place was so terrible in its service that 2 tables, ours included, walked out without being served because in over 15 minutes after being seated, we never saw a waiter or got water. After walking out, no one even seemed to notice--what a joke of a place. Plenty of other options than overpriced service with ridiculously poor (lack of) service

Food is priced well for an oceanfront bar situated right at the heart of the resort area. Ample portions and absolutely delicious. The hot wings are some of the best I've ever had (no, I haven't ACTUALLY been to Buffalo.) Perfectly crispy but not breaded - just the right amount of heat. I've tried all of their fruit crush drinks and love them all, too. Friendly service whether I'm at the bar or at a table. As a Beatles fan, the memorabilia and decor was icing on the cake! This is a favorite place for my friends to meet up.
(5)Russell J.
Food was very good, everything was prepared properly and had great flavor. Seating was a bit cumbersome due to the small size of the restaurant. Once seated the service was prompt and polite. Our waitress knew the menu well and was helpful. I highly recommend the filet melt sandwich. The fries are worth the up-charge so don't hesitate to get them. Wings are a great app and quick to the table. I spent 4 nights in Virginia Beach and this was the only place that deserved to be called a restaurant.

PRO: excellent fries, kid friendly, beautiful views with patio on Boardwalk. Food was good and reasonably priced. Allergy friendly (fish and gluten). Waitress was amazingly friendly. CON: Watch out that the tip isn't added to your bill. I hate when the tip is automatically added as I am not legally bound to pay a 20% tip! Even though the waitress was good that really annoys me. Also, we were a party of 7. The restaurant was mostly empty and the hostess says "we just sat all of our big tables (3) so we can't sit you." After she talked to the manager she sat us 7 people at a 5 person table. We then had to ask for another table added on. Overall a good place and we would most likely come back.

Bad service , very expensive for food ,, no have variety seafood ,, dirty place ,, the waitress ,, 20 minutes for orders ,,only 2 tables .

RockFish has a variety of sandwiches, salads, pasta dishes, and fish. I took a large group of my students there for lunch last weekend, and we were informed that it was their second day open under new management. The servers were great, but I think the restaurant has some kinks to work out still. After we ordered, they told us that they were only supposed to take orders from the front of the menu. They didn't know that the back was for dinner, so neither did we. The kitchen was not quite ready to prepare items from the dinner menu, so it took a while for us to get our food. We did have a large group though, so that could have added to the wait. I ordered a chopped salad with a side of risotto. I liked the salad, but I did not care for the risotto. It was in some sort of red pepper tomato sauce, and it was not at all what I expected. One of the people in my group ordered fish tacos, and she said they were bland. Some of my students ordered salads, and they said they were pretty good. A few of them also ordered calamari, which they loved. I will give them another chance, but it wasn't my favorite.

Received no service! Decided to get dinner and drinks on Sunday 7/26/15 at the Rock Fish around 9pm. Walked in and the Hostess advised that if we sat on the patio, a server would be out shortly. After approx 6 mins we still hadn't seen anyone. We walked in, asked for menus, and reminded the hostess that we were still waiting. She gave us two menus and said she would send someone right out. We waited for another 5-7 minutes and decided to leave. There were only two other tables out there that were occupied by drinkers, so the server couldn't have been super busy. It's a shame, because the live music was very good.

The place is horrible this is my third time dining here we had a party of nine plus a toddler they ran out of four of our dishes didn't tell us after a hr of ordering then they serve us shrimp tacos with two shrimp in them over an hr wait for a salad I'm a foodie not a snob I run restaurants and Dairy Queen offers better service

This past weekend the family and I went down to Virginia beach to spend the Fourth of July. We decided to eat at rockfish since it was right by where we were sitting. Paige was our server and she was awesome. Not to mention the food was quite delicious. They have really changed the place for the better. I had the salmon and my daughters each had a sandwich. Needless to say we left very happy.
(5)Kevin C.
I eat at this restaurant 3 days a week. Their mahi tacos are the best at the beach, can't get enough. Staff is always aware of your needs and are more than capable of providing you with excellent service. P.s. try the crabcake sandwich
(5)Kaile D.
My husband and I wanted to take his visiting mom and step dad to the Oceanfront for dinner. Instead of going to a restaurant we knew would serve us well and satisfy our needs, we chose to go to Rockfish for our first time. Mistake. For a Saturday night in a vacation town, they were poorly staffed. The hostess at the door took 5 minutes to notice us. Once she did, she was very aloof, like she could care less that we were there. They satbus inside and told us sorry, we only have one menu. We were good my to have to wait for more to free up. Then 10 minutes passed without us even having seen a server. When we realized the family next to us had been there longer than us and STILL had no drinks, we decided to get out of there before our experience got any worse. Never again will I bother with this place. If you are considering Rockfish at all, I suggest wandering down to Ocean Eddie's on the fishing pier instead.
(1)Cathy K.
Love the food and friendly staff. The She crab soup is made fresh daily and my husband's favorite and the .Tuna bites, and crab stack . Loved the tuna tacos. Staff is great, friendly and accommodating. Try the Cucumber mojito. ..refreshing and great on a hot summer day. Everything they make is from fresh ingredients and you can really tell. Chef Ryan, the staff and Owner Chris really make sure you enjoy your experience there.
(5)Ryan M.
I heard Rockfish was under new management so i wanted to give it another try, friends and I were greeeted promptly and we got the table on the patio that we wanted. When i asked our server about new management she was very excited to tell us how nice and knowledgable the new owners and managers are. Now time yo try it out. I had the calamari...holy moly! Enough said. Next for me was the salmon that the chef tops with crabmeat, perfectly cooked and seasoned. The experience was similar for my whole group! In a nutshell, GREAT food, presented beautifully. Unlike any other restaurant in the area, other menus are similar, but executed differently. every drink I've had has been delicious and reasonably priced. Our server knew her stuff and didn't bother us too much while not letting us feel ignored. Great job new owners and management! We'll be back again and again.
(5)Chris T.
First time back in a long time since new management has taken over. They have seem to of found there rhythm. Food was awesome! Best calamari in town. My wife had the lobster mac and cheese and I had the ahi sandwich both were very good. Prob the best Tuna sandwich I have had. Our server Jessica was very knowledgable of the menu and a recommended I try my first Orange crush and I loved it. I'll definitely be back!
(5)Mia B.
This restaurant is awesome! The food was excellent especially the spinach and crab dip! The service was excellent and the reggae music I loved!
(5)Meghan F.
Always have a good meal here. Had the tuna sandwich and boardwalk fries today. My husband had mahi tacos. Everything was really good.
(5)Christine R.
Under new owners, and it should've just stayed under the old owners. We came here because the menu on Zomato looked awesome. To our shock that menu has been replaced with a piece of paper that has a third of the food which none of seemed appetizing and all of over priced. It's my husband's birthday so we went all out. We got the butterflied shrimp as an appetizer. It was $11 for 5 of the tiniest little things that tasted like old grease. My husband ordered the $30 mixed platter that's described as "signature" that literally covered 1/3 of the plate and didn't even come with sides. Did I mention it had no flavor whatsoever? I ordered the tuna tacos for $12. Honestly, McDonald's wraps make better tacos than these did. We ordered 2 drinks. The orange crush was actually good, the raspberry was about like the rest of the things on the menu. The service was meh. We were never once asked how anything was, but I understand why. It's gross food, overpriced, not real clean, our bench is rotten....no. won't be coming back. The only thing keeping this place open is the view. I highly recommend passing this place up. Sure it's convenient, but we just paid $87 for lunch, and neither of us are full or pleased. Total letdown.
(1)Lauren K.
I love the "rock" the new owners have really changed this place for the better. Such an amazing location. The service was outstanding (Evan) and the food was delicious, I ordered the fresh salmon with risotto and the My love had the wings and ahi sandwich. It was all really good. hands down the best wings I've had in Virginia Beach. I highly recommend this Rest! Go no further!
(5)Dylan H.
Completely different experience than what is previously written about Rockfish. Start out- pretty early in the season so of course it's pretty much empty on a Wednesday night. Hostess is away from the stand seating someone else, immediately greeted by bartender instead. Hostess reappears, seated right away exactly where we asked to sit with no hesitation. Waitress shows up immediately and takes drink order. Three orange crushes. They show up quickly and they're delicious (Despite not using crushed ice....semantics.) Waitress takes our order. Two orders of she crab soup. Salmon. Crab cakes. Vegetable pesto pasta. Soup shows up right away and it's delicious. Easily the best she crab soup I've had in Virginia Beach. Food comes out shortly after finishing soup. All of it looks beautiful, smells great and most importantly is hot and delicious! We would definitely return. Props to the new owner. Our new go-to spot at the ocean front!
(5)Bill T.
Very comfortable bar that makes killer mojitos (hey, I'm on vacation - cut me some slack)! We haven't eaten here, so I cannot comment on the food. But a cold drink out on their patio on a hot day makes for a great vacation.
(4)Bill J.
Not sure what the issues were but we were seated then asked to get up. TWICE!! Wait 5 more minutes for a table. Order drinks and the keg is kicked. 25 minutes until I get a beer. Order our meals and it takes 55 minutes!!!! Someone forgot something. It was blamed on a "screen" malfunction. Food was just okay. Will not be back.
(2)Richie S.
Took the whole family out for seafood. Location is great and the server was outstanding, the food on the hand was not great. The Butterflied Shrimp and Blackened Ahi Tuna Bites apps were by far the best thing we ate. For entrees we had Fish Tacos, Salmon, Seafood Platter, Chicken Parmesan, Veggie Pesto Pasta, and Shrimp Scampi. I was especially disappointed with the Seafood Platter - zero presentation, it was fried oysters, shrimp, fish and a crab cake on a plate and nothing else. The crab cake was the worst, it was crispy on the outside and wet and mushy on the inside. If your looking for good seafood, it's not here. There are a lot of other choices on the beach so I recommend you go somewhere else.
(2)Andy W.
I had a spinach salad with grilled chicken and a blueberry vinaigrette dressing that was phenomenal. Great job by the staff and new ownership. Can't get a better location onlooking the Virginia Beach Fishing Pier.
(4)A Z.
The food was delicious. The crab soup was amazing. The filet minion sandwich was cooked perfectly. Loved it!
(5)Katherine H.
Worst restaurant ever. I was dining today when a storm rolled in. I witnessed a waitress and the manager tell a group of lifeguards that they could not seek shelter from the lightening and thunder. There were very few people in the restaurant. I know multiple businesses along the boardwalk that would kill for locals to recommend their food and this is obviously not one of them. Another family in the restaurant offered for the lifeguards to join their group. As a local, I will never eat here again and will urge all my friends to do the same.
(1)Grant H.
First time here since the new ownership took over. unfortunately i missed the happy hour, but it looks like it is great. Loaded with Crushes and margaritas. Tonight I had the blackened a hi tuna bites that were in a Cajun cream sauce. They hit it out of the park on that one. Also the filet mignon melt. All I can say is TRY IT!
(5)LaQuesha D.
This place was great. We went on the weekday and it was phenomenal!! First time trying this place and the staff was great.
(5)Doug L.
This is this fourth time we've been there in four summers and this time was the worst food out of the prior years. We loved the food and experience the previous times which is what brought us back. The staff was very friendly and helpful though. Something seemed to change with the food quality this year. The fish tacos weren't the same as in prior years and the tuna in them was very limited and there was way more filler than crab in the crab cakes. The shrimp scampi was the absolute worst ... they really either need to take it off the menu or find a new recipe. We'll try a different place next time.
(2)C H.
This is a great location however for the price of the burger I expected a real burger, not two pre-made patties. They should also change their fry-oil, the chips were yuck,
(1)Mike G.
Good food but drinks are subpar. Fish tacos and tuna sandwich were tasty and cooked properly. Fries are beer battered and pretty delicious. $10 mojitos were sugar and soda. Had to ask for some rum! The waitress did get me another one that was properly made the second time. Asked for ice tea with splenda, waitress said she didn't know if they had that, only have blue and pink sugar. Clean and roomy with indoor and outdoor seating. Overall would go back for lunch next time we're nearby on the beach.
(4)Matt T.
If I could give this place less than one star I would. We came here and started with a bad experience our server was kinda rude and like he didn't want to be there. Than the sweet tea was overly sweet to the point that we couldn't drink it and opted for water. Than after 20 minutes of waiting to order, our wonderful server came to our rescue (sarcasm). As we were ordering he told us they currently had no fish. Oh and this was at lunch time around 1 pm. Never coming here again.
(1)Hannah G.
Do not recommend. It was all but empty. I counted 4 other tables occupied yet service was hard to come by. They gave me a beverage menu only to tell me when ordering they only have around 6 beers available out of 100+ original options. Service flat out sucked. Meal prices were OUT OF CONTROL. 20$ for "fish and chips". I'd pay at most 10$ for that meal. Kids meals around 7$ and my burger with extra charge for a side salad totaled to almost 17$. For two adults and 2 kids we came out at 90$. I requested a high chair and ended up having to go in and get my own because our waitress AND the hostess forgot that we needed one. Disappointing.
(1)Steve W.
Food was so-so for both mine and my wife's meals. Not worth the money spent for sure. Service started great but then slowed and then was nonexistent. We waited about 10 minutes for our server to get us our check. We didn't have any server come our way so we finally went and asked the manager for one. Then we of course got two from both the manager and server right after. It was a disaster.
(2)Dora S.
We went to this place because we were starving and were at the beach and the menu seemed perfectly fine. How bad can you mess up a chicken Caesar wrap? Pretty bad, as it turns out. The service was friendly, but completely inept and we waited for a long time for really bad food. This will remind me to pack a sandwich next time.
(1)Peter R.
Sorry to agree with so many other reviews, but this place is really not good. We came at 2 for a late lunch, there were 2 tables of 5 in our party (kids and adults). The waitress was nice and came over and took our drink order, nothing special all stuff off the drink menu. 20 min later I went in to ask where the drinks were, the manager said the bartender was slow. Finally the drinks arrive and we immediately order another round, trying to keep ahead if the bar is having issues. Next, they are mowing and blowing the grass and bushes right outside the Resturant, I can handle a little noise but our table was covered with dirt and grass!!!!! I asked the waitress to wipe off our table and she was very accommodating and did so, her towel was black with the dirt. We're an hour in, and there are maybe 3 other tables and still no food, but the second round of drinks come. Finally, after an hour and 25 min our lunches come. I can't speak for anyone else other than my wife and I but it was terrible. I ordered the crab cake sandwich with coleslaw. It was so fishy it tasted rancid my wife had some chicken salad that was romaine with some dry chicken on top. Oh by the way, the waitress forgot the salad dressing so that took another 10 min. The drinks were average, nothing special. In addition one of the glasses the waitress brought had a huge crack in it, when we pointed it out she said, "sorry". Not her fault but gimme a break. Don't go here it's not worth it, the food is bad the service is incredibly slow and the place is dirty, there are so many great places to eat in this area, don waste your time here.
(1)Eman D.
Nice location and fabulous staff but the fact that we paid $20 a person for plain old fish and chips sounds ridiculous. This place is overpriced and one time was enough for us.
(2)Nick C.
Food is average at best. Server was terrible... Glasses were empty and twice she served guests next to us and ignored our table. $20 for fish tacos is also ridiculous. Worst part: NO BEERS ON TAP yet they are a "bar and grille". First and last time.
(1)Elise S.
Food was okay. The server was super friendly but didn't clarify between the side Mac and cheese that I pointed to and the apparent entree size elsewhere on the menu. A price difference of more than ten dollars is definitely worth pointing out- Especially when on the menu it said it was meant to share. (One was 9.99, the other 22.99) Edit: after I pointed it out, the server was kind enough to knock the price down 9 dollars. Definitely a kind move that I certainly appreciate!!!
(3)Kate N.
So sorry to say that our visit to this place was a massive disappointment. While our waiter was friendly, service was wickedly slow. It took upwards of 40 minutes to get our meals. I ordered the yellow submarine rockfish sandwich. It was bland - two drops of sauce and unseasoned breading on the boring fish. My husband ordered the Caribbean chicken salad and he couldn't have been more disappointed. The description sounded way better than the salad looked. Tasteless chicken and very few of the toppings it was supposed to have - I think maybe one piece of mango? The kids Mac n' Cheese was most likely just Kraft brand but the vegetables on the side were zucchini, squash, and green beans - that was a decent surprise. However, It's no wonder they have to pass out coupons at the tourist stands for this place - nobody would go otherwise. This is not a place I would recommend to anyone.
(1)Julius L.
Terrible! Absolutely terrible!!! Hostess was terrible with an attitude & acted as if she didn't want to be there. The food was bad. I had the worst fried shrimp I have ever had in my life. The French fries were cold & my beer was warm. Absolutely terrrrrible!!!!

Our entire family went tonight and I can tell you we will not be returning. My mojito was way watered down and my brorher-in-law's sangria tasted like grape juice. The caesar salad was OK - nothing specisl, but the best thing of the night. Then when 8 others at the table teceived their orders my husband and I did not. We were told it would be a little while before our orders were ready. Ten minutes later we got our Rockfish Rockefeller. It looked unappetizing as the topping was burnt all around. There was absolutely NO flavor to it. I understand that rockfish doesn't have much taste but that's where the Rockefeller topping should have helped out but didn't. I couldn't stomach more than a few bites. The kids' menu was no better. The macaroni and cheese was no better than Kraft (probably not even as good). The cheeseburger was overcooked (he wasn't asked how he wanted it prepared) and he turned up his nose at the fries - this from a kid that would live on fries if allowed. Skip this restaurant. Too bad it's taking up valuable real estsate on the boardwalk.

one of my favorite restaurants in Virginia beach! i love the crab cake sandwich! the waiter was super friendly & helpful on my last visit! i cant wait to go back!

Strange place. Called Rockfish but they don't really have fresh seafood. If you want a beer, you better like Budweiser products because they have nothing else. Beatles music playing constantly is kind of nice but doesn't really make any sene. Our waiter said he thought it was "stupid". 3 apps and 4 drinks cost us about $65. Food was edible. Best app was the wings.

The Hubs and I were walking down the boardwalk trying to decide which bar had the best happy hour drinks to offer. I quickly pulled out my iPhone and began searching. Found out Rockfish had a HUGE MARGARITA aka Margarita Fishbowl. I'm very picky when it comes to margaritas but we decided to give it a try. I can honestly say it was huge and very delicious. We shared it, that's how big it was, definitely coming back for more. We also had some appetizers, the chicken tenders were exceptional. Ugh! Just talking about them makes me want them. We're definitely coming back. The Hubs and I were walking down the boardwalk trying to decide which bar had the best happy hour drinks to offer. I quickly pulled out my iPhone and began searching. It was absolutely the best place I have eaten so far in Virginia Beach. It was flavorful. Right next to the atlantic and it was beautiful. If your a beatles fan you would love it they have all kinds of beatles memoriabila the service was excellent I highly recommend this place
(5)Lydia R.
If you're a Beatles fan, come here! I am, so I had a great time. I ordered lobster mac and cheese and veggies, both of which were tasty. Simple food is the what to order here! And sit by the grilling station so you can watch the chefs make your food :)

My girlfriend and I decided to take a chance on this place based on the fact that they were handing out fliers on Atlantic Avenue and the menu actually looked pretty good. We were seated quickly and had our drinks relatively quickly. The Orange Creamsicle Crush was delicious. That's where the good ended. Our Waiter was not very friendly and it took us way too long to receive our order as the restaurant was not very busy (It took us over 30 minutes for a burger and an order of shrimp). People who were seated after us got their food before us. The food was okay, but not at all what we had ordered. My girlfriend ordered the Steamed Shrimp, she recieved the fried jumbo shrimp appetizer. I ordered a burger medium, and it was about as well done as it could possibly be without being burnt. I can also say that other customers around us did not look very happy either, the food was relatively inexpensive, but considering neither of us got what we ordered, it was a very disappointing experience.

The food is only okay. Definitely not worth putting up with the bad service.

I ate at Rockfish about a year ago while in VA beach and actually it was my first dining experience at the destination. Unfortunately my first impressions of the food in VA Beach was nothing to write home about. The walls were likened to a poor man's Hard Rock Cafe, covered in store bought Beatles memorabilia, and faded autographs of members of Wings (not Paul or Linda), and Ringo Stars All Star Band (Not Ringo). Service was okay, and the food was nothing special and maybe a little over priced. Avoid if you can.

Just another tourist at Virginia Beach and this restaurant looked poppin' on the boardwalk. There was definitely a wait for dinner time, but we were lucky to grab a table outside. The view is wonderful, you can see people walking along the beach; we even caught an acrobatics performance. The menu is mainly seafood...so if don't like seafood, I'd go somewhere else. The shrimp pasta was one of the cheaper dishes, but it tasted great! You can skip on the crab legs and lobster roll, they weren't full of meat and the roll was too salty.
(4)Robert P.
Poor service is being nice. Hostess took. 15 minutes to acknowledge my existence and wanted me to sit at the bar when I clearly asked twice for a table. Not worth your time, go elsewhere

We decided to check out Rock Fish for my girlfriends birthday dinner. We were greeted immediately and asked if we would like to sit inside or out. We chose outside because it was beautiful out and the view is amazing. Our waitress came quickly and was very friendly and helpful. My girlfriend wanted a mudslide and she at first didn't think they could make them. She went and checked and came back with it, as well as my Long Island Iced Tea, which was amazing. She loved her drink as well. We ordered the calamari for an appetizer. This was out VERY fast and was super good! The pineapple thai chili sauce that came with it was really good as well. I got a bud light next, and she got a Cherry Limeade Crush. Both were great. I'm a regular beer kind of guy, but they have a nice selection of local brews as well as a few of the popular choices as well. For dinner I ordered the Flounder Sandwich, but our server said they were out of flounder, so I would be getting Tilapia instead, which is fine with me. I'm not picky when it comes to different kinds of fish, because there are so many good kinds. She ordered the pound of Crab Legs which did come out cold, but that was taken care of quickly and nicely. After we ate, we got the bill and tried to use the 9 dollar off coupon we had. She said we couldn't use it because of the crab legs being an appetizer and the coupon said two entrees and one appetizer. A pound of crab legs for 20.99 is not an appetizer in my opinion, but oh well. All in all we had a great time. Not a big Beatles fan, but lots of cool stuff and Beatles music playing the whole time wasn't bad. A little expensive, but that's what you get on the oceanfront. You pay for the atmosphere as well.

I'd love to give it three and a half stars, but my review is mostly hampered by the extremely slow service I thought we received in comparison to the surrounding tables. Quick piece of advice: NEVER, under any circumstances, EVER let the bartender be your server! I was tempted on more than a few occasions to walk back into the kitchen and refill my drink my damn self. Mistake number one. Mistake number two was deciding to sit in the bar area for our meal in the first place. We thought it would be faster since the wait for the regular dining area was something ridiculous like 45 minutes. Clearly, we were wrong. And the AC must have been broken because it was sweltering like a sauna. There are certain places where I don't at all mind seeing fogged up windows around me... but a restaurant ain't one of 'em. I would prefer NOT to be sweaty and panting while eating, actually. Preciate it. What I can say about RockFish though is that we were all thoroughly satisfied with our food selections... once they finally arrived at our table. My friends ordered wings with a variety of sauces and sides. All I remember seeing were squeaky clean plates and empty bones at the culmination of their feeding O_O I, on the other hand, went for the more delectable (and expensive) option that required far less animalistic eating behavior: the Shrimp and Lobster Pasta. And it was one of the best seafood parties I've ever had in my mouth... ahem. That is all.

Nestled in the Boardwalk Resort Hotel, the Rockfish really stands above most in-hotel restaurants. First off, it's another great place for Beatles memorabilia in Virginia Beach (see Abbey Road Pub review). Covering the walls are great pieces of Beatles history, guitars, autographs, drumsticks and the entire ceiling is one big guitar. So right away, the ambiance really attracts even the casual fan, if not just a lover of music in general. What's that? Oh yes, the food, let's talk about the food! I was really impressed with my meal. The menu offers a nice selection of surf and turf, including classics (crab legs and steaks) and twists (Lobster Mac & Cheese). I had the King Crab legs and flat iron steak. What most impressed me was how accurately my steak was cooked. I asked for medium rare and I got the text book version. Most times, when ordering steak out (or burgers), medium rare is always cooked too well. The steak had great flavor and the crab legs, well how can you go wrong with those? Loaded with great tasting meat! The rest of the people I was with had zero complaints about their meals. The waitress was friendly and attentive and the prices were reasonable and what you'd expect at an ocean front restaurant serving fresh seafood. We were staying in the Boardwalk, so not only would a return for room and board, but I would certainly come back to the Rockfish!

The boyfriend wanted to stop here, not I... so needless to say I wasn't happy when my strawberry salad was slop. The dressing had been enthusiastically tossed in the salad, which meant my fresh greens were soaked and bruised and the salad was a light pink due to the overly generous goat cheese getting blended in. I asked for chicken on it... it tasted simultaneously charred and fishy. You know why I got a salad at a place called Rockfish? Because I hate fish. And, apparently, I also dislike fish-tasting chicken. Who knew? Service was good, however, and the manager came by unprompted when the server noticed I only ate the strawberries and the meal was comp'd. I'm local so there's always the possibility I'll have to go back.. maybe for people watching? But not for food!
(2)Lee S.
The service was good, and that is about all I have to say here, mediocre food and drinks, and very high prices. Waterman's and Catch 31 are far superior to this place for quality and getting what you pay for!
(2)D B.
Biggest rip off on the boardwalk. Took my daughter and family there for her birthday. The fried fish sandwich was embarrassing. Thinnest piece of fish I've ever seen. Food was cold and service was slow. They'll never take my money again.
(1)Don H.
Rockfish is the BEST seafood on the oceanfront hands down. The blackened Tuna or Mahi Mahi being a personal favorite. Their Crush drinks are amazing but be careful, they'll sneak up on you if you're not used to them. Service is always great, and you can chose to sit indoors or on the covered patio if the weather is nice. Whether inside or out, you'll have an awesome view of the boardwalk and beach anywhere in the restaurant.
(5)Rolando S.
STAY AWAY!!! Here are some notes from a Sunday dinner with my fiancé... Margarita tasted horrible Food was COLD! Crab cake was overcooked Mashed potatoes had huge chunks of potato, not really mashed Vegetables could have come from a freezer bag Tuna was overcooked The food was way overpriced To end with something positive, the server was pleasant and there's a great view...
(1)Jaime S.
Honestly the worst service I've ever experienced. Hostess rude when seating us, waitress didn't come around for over ten minutes (had to keep telling waiters and hosts to find our waitress), food took forever to come out (and food wasn't good), and check too so long we left cash on the table and walked out. Avoid like the plague.
(1)Mary M.
Came in looking for a seafood meal and was surprised their fish portion of the menu is really limited. Ordered catch of the day with the suggested sides, vegetables and rice. The fish was great but the sides were a joke... Plain white rice with no flavor and plain steamed vegetables, also with no flavor or seasoning. I've had better sides from a frozen bag of food and I'd be embarrassed to serve plain rice and veggies at my own house, let alone in a restaurant!
(2)Carnelia G.
The weird thing about Virginia Beach is even nice restaurants have a casual dresscode and decor, so until you step inside and see the prices on the menu, you never know whether you're in for Applebees (low end) or Ruth Chris (high end). Rockfish Grill is your typical Oceanfront restaurant. With a beautiful surfside view, it's a lovely dinner date but still casual enough to stroll in off the beach in flipflops. The food is awesome and the presentation even better, but expect to up some serious dough if you want to make a meal of it. My favorite thing about Rockfish Grill--The Beatles are always in heavy rotation! In fact, when I went there I thought I had mistakenly stumbled into Abbey Road because the only songs they played were The Beatles.
(5)Sparky T.
This is the place if you are really into The Beatles! I think they play exclusively Beatles songs 24/7. I like the Beatles as much as the next guy but it could get old quickly. Went here for lunch and it was reasonable. Not outstanding but good food. Service was very attentive.
(3)Mo B.
Rockfish is all about the atmosphere. Once I saw the prices and the dishes in front of the other customers, I always stick with a nice cold, over-priced drink outside. The drinks are perfectly made and you can sit back in a rocking chair towards the ocean or at one of the tables around the fire pits, making it very much worth the price. This place is best to start the night out. I always grab a table with friends, share some drinks and get into dance mode for the night. Rockfish Restaurant is my pricey transition spot into the night's shenanigans, but I wouldn't suggest it meal wise.

My husband and I took our friends here for dinner on 07/03/13 (they were visiting from out of state). We arrived at the restaurant at 5:30pm - we figured perfect timing to avoid the rush. We asked to be seated at the "round" table closest to the ocean/boardwalk but were told that was for parties of 6 or more! We still had a view of the ocean so no big deal - my friends were annoyed because there weren't any large parties the entire time so we could have sat there with no problem. My husband was annoyed (I don't blame him) because every time the hostess sat people my husband had to get up and move to the side because it's so crowded on the deck when people try to come through with strollers there was no room. I would only recommend couples eating here because for large groups it's a very tight fit. I think even a family with small kids would feel crowded at the table because all the tables are so close together you almost bump into the people around you when you need to move/get up. Our server was very polite and friendly. We tried to order appetizers but that was difficult ... they were out of Homemade Spinach & Crab dip, Rockin' Chicken Nachos AND Sgt. Peppers Chicken Strips! HOLY CRAP come one how do you run out of that much food when it's only 5:30pm?!? My husband and I ended up ordering the LOADED bacon & cheese fries. Now ... given the title LOADED we figured it was going to be a yummy heart attack waiting to happen :) NOT SO MUCH! There was hardly any cheese on the fries ... it was basically luke warm fries with a PINCH of bacon and cheese. We were disappointed! My husband ordered the Orange Crush because he's heard so many people rant and rave about this drink. He said it was like drinking watered down orange juice he didn't taste anything until he started jabbing the orange at the bottom of the glass to release the juices. For the price of this drink I think they need to work on the flavor or get a better bartender. My friend ordered a Pina Colada and said it was really good. It took about 15-20 min for us to get our appetizer which we were disappointed with but still ate. After we finished our appetizer it had been about 40 minutes and we STILL didn't have our meal - when we asked our waiter what was taking so long he said he wasn't sure he'd be right back. The manager came to us and said, "So I hear you guys have a problem" We all wanted to be sarcastic because nobody asked to talk to the manager so why was she at our table?!? We told her we were only wondering where our food was because it had been almost 45 min - we were told, "Well, you got sat right when a bunch of other tables did so the kitchen is busy, you also had a 20 minute ticket." Okay, no need to come to us and be rude!!! If we had a 20 min ticket what was the excuse for the extra 20-25 minutes?!?!?! Our food arrived when she was basically rudely telling us "suck it up your food will arrive when it arrives." My husband and I both ordered The Original Rock Burger, my friend ordered grilled Salmon and her boyfriend ordered the Honey BBQ Chicken Sandwich. My friend and her boyfriend luckily enjoyed their dishes the only complaint he had was that his sandwich has mushrooms on it and he didn't remember seeing it on the menu - he picked them off because he doesn't like them. My husband ordered his burger medium and I ordered mine medium well. Both burgers were well done and not that great. I could only eat 1/2 of mine and I choked that down! The burgers were supposed to come with onions but apparently the kitchen ran out of those too. I didn't say anything because at that point we wanted to just eat and get out of there. For whatever reason after our waiter sent the manager to our table we didn't really see him the rest of the night. I guess he thought we were going to say something to him about sending the manager to us - we even had another person (not sure if he was another manager or what) come to our table and ask if everything was okay when we got our food. Of course we wanted to point out the problems but just said everything was fine so we could leave! When we asked for 2 checks it took FOREVER to get those too. We looked over the bills before paying and he was so frazzled he messed up the tickets big time. He split the cost of the appetizer and made each of us pay 1/2 when my husband and I were the only ones who ate it, put my friends drink on our bill, put one of our meals on their ticket and her meal on our ticket. When we asked him to fix it because it was way off he said "oh, that's how he told me to split it" How can you blame someone else when YOU took our order you knucklehead! I guess he was so flustered he didn't know what he was doing. My husband and I will never eat at this place ever again and we will make sure to tell everyone we know to avoid this place at all costs. We are just happy our friends had great drinks and food because if it was the other way around we would've felt horrible. AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS!

Good fresh food but the service was lacking from the beginning. From my one experience they do simple food pretty well. I had grilled salmon (cooked perfectly and very fresh) with the steamed seasonal vegetable medley (Broccoli, red onion, carrots and red peppers) and a baked potato (a little overcooked) and a delicious slice of key lime pie for dessert. The whole meal was delicious but our waiter was a bit of an amatuer and we had to go through 3 rounds of ordering before he didn't come back from the kitchen and say that they were out of whatever food we had just ordered. We had to keep asking for things throughout the meal (straws, butter for potato, refills, clear our empty plates and offer a desert menu) and had to hunt him down for the check. We waited about 10 minutes for one slice of pie to come out (on a slow Sunday night). The other 2 serves that I interacted with didn't seem very pleasant. When I asked a waitress for the location of the restroom she gave me directions in a droll, monotonous voice and walked away mid-sentence to go sweep a floor. Overall decent food for VA beach and you have a great view of the ocean. Also, they play some great music; the playlist alternated mostly between the beatles and rolling stones.
(3)Amber F.
I love this place. It's my husband's and my favorite place to go for seafood and crush alcoholic beverages. Their cajun topping for their fresh fish is just spicy enough, and their sides are good sized portions. I could do without all the Beatles music, but the view on the water is beautiful!
(4)Katy R.
Some friends and I stopped in for some Starwberry lemon mojitos. What came out were some slightly pink drinks with mint sprigs. We are not even sure if there was rum in them. The drinks were supposed to come out with muddled strawberries in them but there wasn't any. When I asked the waitress, she said that they were out of strawberries. That really is something you should tell someone when they are ordering. When we complained, they took our drinks back and brought us beer. The waitress wasn't very gracious and unfortunately, we couldn't bring ourselves to leave a tip. I understand when food and drinks get messed up but the service was awful too, really awful. We will not be going back, ever.
(1)Angela J.
Only had drinks here! But, we stopped in here from the boardwalk, belly-ed up the the bar, and enjoyed a few drinks...I was in the mood for Corona...so yes, it came with a lime, but the bloody bar looked great, and had rave reviews from the people sitting next to us. My husband ordered a gin & Tonic and it was a generous pour....just what he was looking for....though the first one didn't come with a lime...still, all in all we were very happy with our afternoon drink stop. Do they really play ONLY Beatles songs though? My heart goes out to the wait staff....that would get annoying very soon....
(4)Jamie H.
This place was just okay. Extremely slow service...decent food. The coconut rice was awesome, but everything else was just average. I also could have done without the bugs in my water...twice.
(3)Nikki S.
Ehhhhh... that's what I can say of my overall dining experience. Had the hushpuppies that some people were raving about and they seemed overcooked on the outside. I've had better from some Louisiana based restaurants. The flavor though of the hushpuppies were good but yeah the butter was needed to soften the dough inside. It was a bit dry. For my meal since nothing really looked appealing @ the moment was the bacon wrapped scallops. These were actually delicious and saved me from going insane from nothing blowing my mind here. The scallops were perfectly cooked- moist and that perfect texture when you bite in. The bacon was cooked although some of my pieces had burned bacon and I mean burned so it gave that real charcoal burned taste which did affect the flavor of the scallops. The sauces they used were very light which was perfect- BBQ sauce and a mango type salsa on the bottom. I tried someone's crab chowder soup which was also good and would be perfect for a cold day (although it was 95 degrees on a hot and humid july... lol). This day I just didn't feel like fried foods and wanted something fresh and something that would really bring out the seafoods' flavor. I just felt this restaurant was just too simple.
(2)Andi G.
Dern that was good! Wasn't expecting such good food at a busy tourist spot. King crab dip, snow crab legs, steak, and veggies were excellent. Server was super nice and we got seated quickly on a busy Saturday night. I think those were the best crab legs I've ever had. The king crab spinach dip for an appetizer was yummy. It is pretty expensive, but that is expected being the location and the quality.
(5)Ali K.
We arrived just as they opened on the day before memorial day. The staff was friendly and attentive. The fish and chips was good but not exceptional. The southwest chicken wrap was fantastic. My 9 year-old son declared they had the best chicken tenders of any of the restruants we ate at that weekend.
(3)David S.
It sorely lacks value. Our lunch during happy hour, consisting of 1 appetizer, 4 orange crushes ($4/each), fish & chips, and blackened mahi, was not worth the ~$70 before tip. The crab cake appetizer is a single for $12, which was good but it was gone in two bites. The rice is tasty, but we were otherwise unimpressed by the meals. They get 1 extra star for the Beatles ambiance.
(2)Vanessa H.
Unless you have to eat here -- such as corporate is paying, you have kids and are staying at the hotel and need to stay close -- there are other places to try. We attended a company dinner here, with overdone fish and roast beef. The best items were a crab and tomato salad, and the fried chicken strips meant for the kids! The cheesecake was also good, but since it was a week before it closed for the season, a lot of dishes and ingredients were unavailable (no ice cream, no oranges to make old-fashioned drink, etc)

Four adults for dinner. We asked to sit outside on Labor Day evening. We were seated at a small not so clean table in the corner. We asked to be moved to a round table nearer to the beach, but were told no! They were being saved for a larger group in case any came. One of the tables was occupied by two people...not the required six! Of course a larger group never came. Our server was pleasant but the service was very mediocre...no glass served with bottled beer. No spoon served with sauce. Nachos were very good...generous portion. That was the extent of the good. Drinks adequate but a little watered down. Crab cakes OK, French fries cold and greasy, steak OK, frites cold and covered with toppings that should have been on the steak. Chicken sandwich not bad...fries cold. The best part of the meal was the Beatles music playing in the background. We won't be returning.
(1)Jason H.
We were given a half hour wait time that turned into an hour and a half. The table was dirty when we finally were seated and there was glass cleaner all over it. The drinks are not consistent at all. When asking for bread to be served with the Mussels, I was told they do not serve bread, but can give me some saltine crackers. Others at our table sent their food back. The manager came over and was polite and offered to re-fire the order, but by that late in the evening they just decided to cash out and go back to their hotel.. I am sure it is a great place, but we did not have a great experience at all.. Plenty of better places on the boardwalk to dine like Mahi Mai's or Catch 31..
(2)Kari R.
not amazing but decent. Tuna was cooked too much for my liking.
(3)Erica M.
**Disclaimer - I only had appetizers and drinks there, hence the 3 stars. Did not try the entrees** Date of visit: 10/10/09 Stopped in with two friends for some appetizers and drinks. Decor is funky and has a Beatles/classic rock feel with memorablia on the walls and menu items named after song titles. The hushpuppies were deep-fried, golden brown balls of goodness and the king crab, spinach artichoke tip was creamy, yummy, and was served with warm garlic chips. Would have loved to have taken advantage of the outdoor patio seating, which is large and is right along the boardwalk, but it was windy and raining. The smallish bar area to the left as you come in allows smoking (which I'm not a fan of) however the dining room side is non-smoking. (YAY lungs!)

SUCKS BALLS. And here's why: Granted we came here during the Neptune festival but it was 3PM and no matter what is going on in the neighborhood a solid restaurant should be able to manage the crowd and make good food. We were promptly seated and the waitress was great. We put our order in and that's when things went south. First...our water came in Styrofoam cups because apparently the restaurant ran out of real glasses. I looked around the restaurant and didn't see one table with more than 2 glasses per person so how could they have run out?? We waited 30 minutes for our food...the waitress came around once and told us 15 minutes before the food came out that the food will be out asap. While we sat waiting for our food I found myself observing the train wreck all over this restaurant. The table next to us ordered way before we were seated...I thought they were waiting for their check. I was wrong. Their food arrived...about 5 minutes later the waitress came over to check on them....they weren't doing so good. Their mozzarella sticks were cold...cold to the point that the customer broke the sticks in half. The waitress had no problem taking these back...and was back literally 1 minute later. The customer looked on skeptically but the waitress told her she was in luck because a fresh order of mozzarella sticks came out just as she entered the kitchen. This tells me one thing - some other customer got screwed! The fiasco didn't end there....approximately 15 minutes after their first round of food came out their second round of food came out. This wasn't a difference in appetizers and main entrees...these were all entrees. This was a confirmation that this restaurant is not run properly. A kitchen can't time the cooking so that one table gets all of their order at the same time. There were 8 people at the table...4 of them kids. How they messed that one up I have no idea. While all of this was going on the staff at other parts of the restaurant was dropping forks, knives, and everything in between while cleaning tables. Our food finally arrived and after it arrived we had to wait another 5 minutes to get any kind of silverware and napkins. The club sandwich is NOT a club sandwich but a chicken burger. WTF??? The seafood platter was a big portion so that was good. The description I got of the food on the platter was ''disgusting, cold, and artificial". If how we felt after lunch was any kind of indication of the food quality...stay away. We both were extremely nauseous...at one point my fiance thought he was going to hurl. Saaaweet. Here's a few notes - the restaurant is extremely expensive for a place that is extremely casual, located in Virginia Beach, and has the decor that it does. All entrees...including pastas...are around $20 or up. The salad selection is super minimal. The only positive, and the only reason this place gets one star (aside from yelp's policy to assign at least one star) is the service. All the waiters were upbeat without being annoying and looked hardworking. I think the problem at this restaurant is the kitchen. I do not recommend this place.
(1)Shak B.
Went there Friday 6/21/13. The place was a bit busy. Food was great, service was poor. Our server didn't even check on us during our meal, no refills or anything. The bar is probably your best bet of getting decent service.
(1)Jody W.
This has got to be the absolute worst restaurant experience I've had in years. We were seated quickly but the service ended there. Our drinks took 20 minutes and when our appetizer came out, it was incomplete and we had NO silverware. I asked the waiter to please bring them and he completely disappeared. Fifteen minutes later I had to go retrieve them myself. When our dinner came, scallops were cooked on one side only, shrimp were over cooked and the entire plate was drowning in some kind of liquid we have yet to define. We asked to see the manager and it took almost 30 minutes for him to come to our table. He looked like a deer in the headlights and said he had no idea there were issues. Overall the staff is rude or clueless, the food is horrid and any money spent here is totally wasted. You would be better off at Subway.

If we aren't in Myrtle Beach SC or Urbanna, Va. for our summer trip to the east coast, we hit up Virginia Beach. Usually stay a hotel on the strip and don't venture too far from the said strip. We (apparently) ate at Rockfish once 6 years ago and really liked it, so we went back tonight breaking my dads longstanding rule of not eating in restaurants attached to hotels. It wasn't what my parents remembered, but it wasn't bad either. It was just so-so, although the service sucked. First. They lost our pager number somehow, so our wait doubled before we pull a "what about us" on them. We were then seated instantly, with our choice of inside or out. We took outside. Where we were sitting there was something dripping or blowing in the wind at an inconsistent that the restaurant knew was there (privous sitters had complained) but still opted to use the table and then not be able to move us. Whatever, i switched seats with my brother and he didn't seem to care, or it stopped or something. Second. Our amazing hush puppies beat the silverware and napkins to the table, so we asked the first person we saw, who gladly gave us some, but was obviously annoyed that our waitress hadn't. Third. Our waitress was a ditz. Jojo clearly ordered the bacon cheeseburger and she wrote down and then brought out, the black and blue - which, having blu cheese on, he wouldn't touch. Besides the poor service, and the only reason for 3 stars, was the food. It was actually pretty good. My mom was disappointed to hear they were out og the blue crab ravioli, because they were out of the ravioli themselves. She ordered the shrimp and lobster pasta with the asparagus from the crab ravioli and loved it. My dad had the seared tuna which was gone before they corrected Jojo's burger. I had the snow crab legs, which weren't anything special, but well cooked. The service stunk so we didn't stay for dessert. It wasn't that bad, probably just an off night. If you do go, notice on the menu the 'pork lion', which says lion (instead of loin) both in the title and in the description, on all the menus. I really wanted my brother to order the 'pork lion' and make sure to emphasize the lion part. I'd love to know if our waitress knew about the typo on the menu.

Visiting VA Beach on honeymoon- Went on a Tuesday night (October) place was practically empty. We were seated by an incredibly unfriendly male host. Food was good & came out fast but was expensive...I do not like seafood so I ordered the angus burger, which was delicious. Husband ordered the flat iron steak & he said it was good. Hush puppies were ok, pretty tasteless. Our waitress was totally unfriendly, which we were surprised about because everyone else we encountered in other restaurants in VA Beach were SO nice!!! Overall the only thing going for the place is the Beatles memorabilia & food.

I live in the DC area, but have family in Virginia Beach and Rockfish has been a long time favorite place to go on my regular visits to the beach. I just remembered how good their tuna steak tacos were, the last time I was there. mmm mmm! Paired with a bloody mary and some hush puppies, you can not go wrong. Especially on a hot summer day, while looking out at the ocean. The view can't be beat!

I ate here once during a business trip. I was able to obtain a table outside with my coworkers and get a nice view of the beach from my seat. The service was great, as the waitress repeatedly came back to talk with us about our short stay in the area (let alone the fact that she brought our drinks quickly). She even posed for a picture with my coworker. The Catch of the Day is a good deal. If I recall correctly, you could select from 4 different types of fresh fish and can have it cooked to your liking (grilled, blackened, you name it) for about 21 dollars. I had tillapia and it tasted great--flaky and not overcooked. The garnish that accompanied my fish was very edible and I ate all of it. I would have liked to see some wine specials on the menu, similar to its sister restaurants (Catch 31 and Mahi Mah's). Overall, the atmosphere was very laid back and casual (much more so than Catch 31), and the food was great. I would recommend this place if you are eating with friends.

Last weekend we went in at 3pm for the start of happy hour (how great is 3pm happy hour?). The food specials included wings, calamari and two fish tacos for $3.50. Our first server tells us about all of these. So my hubs and I sit in the bar area and order drinks, and I order the fish tacos. At this point we have a new server, Alana. My husband orders nothing, and I say, "we're just looking for a snack." Out come three tacos, and I ask Alana "oh, three tacos?" in a suprised tone. She shrugs. I assume they're being generous and enjoy delicious tacos. Then the check comes. $20 tacos. Apparently, there was also an entree portion. Really?! We ask our server, and she admits she made a mistake, but adds "well, you ate them." Indeed. After arguing with her and sending for her manager twice, they finally give us the happy hour price. If our waitress Alana hadn't been so defensive and more willing to concede to begin with, I might have believed this was an honest mistake. but we believe she entered the order as an entree on purpose, and intentionally did not ask unwitting visitors whether we might want the happy hour portion. So two stars for what otherwise could have been much better. Buyer beware, ask the right questions and don't get duped and have a crappy experience like we did.

Good music and memorabilia, so-so fish entrees, decent cheesecake. Given how empty the restaurant was, there's no excuse for the inattentive service,

This is another place that my family and I had over looked for the last 5-6 years! We must have been lucky when we went because we met up with some friends from Jersey and with a party of 10, they sat us right away. Our waitress (too bad I could remember her name) was awesome! Very nice and attentive to us. I decided to get the Maryland Crab Cakes and they were absolutely delicious! The lobster mac n cheese is also good here. My wife had the stuffed swordfish and it is probably one of the best meals we had all week at the beach. Besides the food and service being great, the decor in the restaurant was nice as well. There is giant guitar that goes along the ceiling which was pretty neat. Definitely consider checking this place out if you are at the beach!!!

My wife and I ate here on the first night of our vacation. We really enjoyed the food and the atmosphere. The service was speed and friendly. We started the meal with the coconut shrimp which we both enjoyed very much. My wife had the crab cakes for dinner which she said were good but could have used a bit more seasoning. (Bites without the pineapple salsa were somewhat on the bland side.) I had the scallops and really loved the flavors. My one complaint about them though was that they were gritty. Something I wouldn't expect at a restaurant were we paid $110 for dinner for two. (Appetizer, bottle of wine, two entrees, and tip)

Took an hour to receive our food and all of us felt sick later. Not even good food.

Really cool atmosphere. Loved the decorations, got tons of stuff from old rock bands. The rockfish (which I highly recommend) was very good. The night I went had live music too. The wait staff were extremely nice and overall had a fun experience at this place.

The good: cool chill atmosphere. The bad: everything about the food. Overcooked. Slow service. Boring menu. Overprice for the offerings. If given the choice, just keep walking down the boardwalk.

Are you familiar with hush puppies? I'm not. Supposedly they are deep fried little corn balls that you eat with ketchup or butter or whatever. They're like corn nuggets but more tastier and without the "I ate this in elementary school cafeteria" vibe attached to them. My girlfriend was shocked I never had hush puppies before. She ordered us an order as an appetizer. The basket of hush puppies didn't bark once - there was nothing to hush! However, there was a mountain of them and I ate them all. And then I realized I still had to eat my entree. What is a boy to do but gain weight. Rockfish is a Beatles themed bar and grill. Okay, theme is too light of a word. It's Beatles obsessed. All the music are Beatles songs. All the decorations are Beatles related. They have PUPPETS of the Paul and Lennon and the like. And there is a cover for the LA Times about the guy who shot Lennon hanging in the men's room. I'm not sure what this all means but I think some 14 year old girl fell in love with the Beatles and never got over it. Her dream was to marry John and have a million babies. Instead, she opened a restaurant. I guess that's a good compromise. The entrees are sea-food centric but delicious. The burgers are simple but well done. The crab cake sandwich is perfectly smooth and easy to eat. The fries are seasoned and perfect with ketchup. All in all, the food is very good. The service is...well, it's not top of the game but it's efficent. The food delievery is slow and there did seem to be a lack of available employees while I was there. Of course I was also in a group of 12 people and I was there during the off season for Virginia beach so I guess it wasn't as bad as it could have been. All in all, a pleasant touristy experience.

Third time was not a charm. We were there Saturday, July 28, 7PM. 5 adults. We were told by two hostesses it was a 45 minute wait, but we could eat in the bar in an outside area if we did not want to wait. So, we opted for the bar. The poor bartender was trying, by herself, to handle drinks for waitstaff, serve a bunch of tables by herself, and handle the bar. I felt bad for her. One table walked out tired of the wait. Another table complained about her service to the Manager. So, poor management of employees, and not enough help on a Saturday night. Next, the food. The prices are higher than when we visited in the past, and the hush puppies, which used to come with your meal, now cost $6. The Tequila Chicken was dry to the point of inedible- even the sauce on the side of the plate could not mask that. Jumbo Fried Flounder (which apparently is pre-breaded so you can not order it any other way but fried), was very dark, dry, and overcooked. The fish tacos were ok, but for the price, you can find about 50 other restaurants in the area that serve better ones for less. The shining spot: the mussels appetizer with sausage- it was tasty. Don't bother with the Creamy Seafood Bisque either. It sounded better than it was. Crab, Scallops, Shrimp? Prove it. It was so smooth, no chunks of any seafood, who knows what is in it.

I would not recommend this restaurant. The appetizer we ordered was overcooked and very salty. The waiter could have provided better service and it was overpriced. We should have listened to the parking lot attendant who warned us about the place but my wife is a big Beatles fan so she wanted to see the memorabilia. I suggest the Raven restaurant across the street which is a better deal for the money.

Great happy hour. Friendly staff and a good atmosphere. Outdoor seating is ideal for people watching.
