Likes: Open late (1:30 or later everyday). Dim Sum available ala carte anytime. Dislikes: Pricing seems completely arbitrary Good, authentic Chinese food! Yay.

Best Chinese I've had outside of a real Chinatown. Do yourself a favor and get the Salt and Spicy Pork Chop. They are truly amazing. Black mushroom and Chinese vegetable is also a winner. The peeking duck and fluffy buns were good, but I've had better. All around a surprisingly authentic meal.

Glad I found this place 10 mins away from the strip. Thanks yelp for helping me find it. We had the both of the red and white menu, but chose to order from the red one. Typical Chinese restaurant that serves traditional Cantonese cuisine. We ordered a soup and three main entrees just to come back another time for the Dim Sum. All was good and our server was attentive. Would come back again when in town. Final Rating 3.5

This is the best chinese restuarant in the area. Take it from a native 757 chinese girl.. the family eats here.. the entire chinese community in the area eats here. It's not the best, but its the best in the area. The food here is pretty quality and authentic. They also have a pretty legit dim sum. And I'm not just saying that because it's the only restaurant in the area that has dim sum. It's true that it is the only restaurant in the area that serves the delightful little chinese dishes, but it is pretty authentic. If you're in the mood for a noodle dish, get the "beef chow fun" which is wide rice noodles in a delicious brown sauce, or the pan fried noodles.

We decided to try out Jade Villa because of it's good reviews here on Yelp. This is one of the most authentic Chinese restaurants I've been to outside of Chinatown, NYC. I had the 1/2 Peking Duck and Wonton Soup. Excellent - dare I say the best I've ever had. Yes, the business was crowded. Crowded with Asians! Which is refreshing! I'll be back again and again. Large dining rooms. Recommended!

Yesterday I went there for the first time and it was great. The best Chinese food I've had ever. Though they only serve all the food on Saturday and Sunday. They are open all week long. I'm not quite sure what time they are open during the week, but on the weekend they open at 11am. If you want to take a couple of friends to a traditional Chinese restaurant I really suggest Jade Village!!

Order off the red menu if you want a more authentic journey into legit Chinese cuisine. Save the General Tso's and protein w/ broccoli for your visits to Panda Express. Try the congee, seafood pan fried noodles, sea cucumber, razor clams, manila crab, kang-kong, and happy family. They have frog too, but you may not be ready for that if you've never had it before. But if you're looking to broaden your gastronomic horizons, this is the place to be. Seriously...

So much gravy!!! I went here for dinner on a Thursday evening with a friend. We had: 1. Beef chow fun: I wanted crispy Hong Kong-style noodles and the server suggested this dish. It wasn't really what I was looking for, mostly because it was swimming in gravy and therefore the noodles were super soggy. 2. General Tso's chicken: My friend thought this dish was absolutely delish, but he's white and seems to only eat the take-out version of Chinese. I thought it was greasy and, again, had way too much gravy. I also thought it was overly battered and the pieces of chicken were too small. 3. Har gao (shrimp dumplings): This wasn't on the menu, but I ordered it because this is one of my favorite dim sum dishes. It was okay- smallest pieces I've ever seen though! What's sad is that they didn't have the traditional chili sauce and hot mustard. They had some "chili sauce" on the table that was oily and had no heat. 4. Pan-fried dumplings (?): I didn't try these, but they were gigantic and my friend said they were gross. He said that it tasted like ham inside and only ate half of one. Our server was okay. Slow with the refills. She put down the check and came back for it like less than a minute later. We felt a little rushed. This was my first time trying a "traditional" Chinese restaurant in Hampton Roads. I'll have to keep looking...

I just want to state that these GREAT reviews are very misleading! I signed-up for an account just so I could leave a review. THIS PLACE SUCKS! Service was terrible! It took them FOREVER to acknowledge us, then, they served drinks and took food orders to a group that walked in TEN MINUTES after us...and also thought it was more important to buss and set tables as the waitress lady said, "I coming." Then, she finally got to our table and said, "You ready order?" Food only got ONE STAR because it was the only place I could find on google and yelp that served dim sum. My husband and I just moved from Hawaii, so maybe our expectations were set a little high..but their dim sum sucked! No variety, it was over steamed, dry, no flavor and had questionable ingredients. NOTHING like Hawaii's Chinatown that I miss so dearly after seeing and eating what I have available here to me in VA!

Music videos by the same singer always have a recurring theme or character cameo. If I was a music video director, the recurring character cameo in my videos would always be baby octopus. And baby octopus would always show up on screen with a side of jellyfish salad. In fact, you'd probably think I was filming another music video if you caught me eating here at Jade Villa. That's because I had the baby octopus with jellyfish salad, and it rocked. Not only did they have some killer baby O, but they also had something else amazing. To visualize this other thing, imagine a Cottonelle or other tissue paper commercial. It is slow motion, the background is light blue, the tissue paper is fluffy and floats through the air gently, wafting infinitely downward but ever so peacefully. Yes, this was what I imagined when I bit into the heavenly char siu bau at Jade Villa. After my third one, I snapped back to reality. I was getting full. Time to move on! The dim sum covered the table and the steam wafted upward as my chopsticks swooped downward. Like a gull snatching baby crabs off the beach, I plucked the helpless dumplings here and there from their little round metal cups.

Jade Villa continues to surprise me and that's why I keep coming back. The thing I like the most are the 'choices'. If you like Chinese-American food, you have a friend here. If you prefer something more traditionally Chinese, this might be one of the few places in the area to eat. There are three distinct menus - one American-Chinese, white cover, one more tradition Chinese menu, red, and the 'secret' Yellow menu - probably written in Chinese. My advice is to watch what the regulars order (the waitresses normally know these people by name and they seem like old friends), ask the wait person, "What was that?", and go for it. That's what I did last evening. It was rather later for dinner, about 10.30, and with most restaurants in cleanup mode, I opted for Jade Villa. It is opened until 1.30 am. Surprising the restaurant had a pretty full dining room. To the table came, deep fried shrimps (shells on) with seasoned deep fried garlic and jalapenos, congee with pork, sauteed Chinese broccoli with oyster sauce, and salty dumplings. I stole the shrimp and broccoli dishes from my neighbor's choices. All of the dishes were amazing; I just wish I had room to try the dishes that the regulars behind me had. They looked and smelled amazing too.

honey glazed walnut shrimp -- good, not great. shrimp are huge and walnuts have a nice glaze on it. this is one of our favorite dishes, this didn't disappoint, but it also isn't the best we've tasted. mapo tofu -- we usually order this non-spicy cause our kids devour this dish. nice size tofu, good flavors, nice balance of tofu & meat. shrimp chow mein (crispy noodles) -- the flavor of the noodles were a bit different, but they weren't terrible. i liked the gravy/sauce they used on the dish...i've heard some people don't. calamari -- the calamari flavor is pretty strong, which i don't mind, so i enjoyed this. if you're thinking the mild taste of calamari like what you get at american/italian restaurants...you'll probably not enjoy this too much. the flavoring on the calamari is good...it's got to be mixed with MSG. the peppers mixed in aren't spicy, so don't be afraid that it'll be spicy. dim sum -- shrimp dumplings, beef balls, shrimp shumai -- all good. egg tart -- one of my all time faves: so yummy! and another dim sum, i can't recall what it was called, it was in a sweet rice ball, with pork and dried shrimp mixed in a soy gravy: YUM!

I really wanted to like this place because I had heard good things, but I was sorely disappointed. We arrived early and were quickly seated, but the service was slow and the staff seemed to be taking an exceptionally long time to come around with the carts. I was underwhelmed by most of the food. The shrimp and mushroom dumplings were earthy (in a bad way) and almost inedible. The spare ribs were small, near-cold bits of gristle. My sister found some mystery item (possibly also gristle?) in a dumpling and stopped eating after that. The highlight was the egg custard, as other reviewers have noted. But even that was not enough to bring me back here. Sorry, Jade Villa.

I stumbled upon this restaurant accidentally. I was leaving the ER (don't ask) and I was super hungry and a nurse told me about this place. It was open late (it was about midnight) and still serving. Pulling up to the place made us wonder if we were in the right place. You go through one door and you will see two doors, one to enter and one to exit. You enter and it opens to a big room with seating and a small bar. I had the chicken and shrimp spring roll (delicious, should have ordered more!), the crab and fish soup and I was feeling adventurous (or it could have been the medicine talking) and ordered the crispy pig or Pata as I was told it was called. It was great. The food was wonderful and everyone loved what they ordered. It has since become our late night spot. It's not fancy but the food is what you will be talking about not the decor.

Jade Villa is the best dim sum around. Of course it is also the ONLY dim sum place around so that has to be taken with a grain of salt. The lines are usually long, especially on a Sunday. Most items are pretty good. The squid is great but try to get it when it is coming out of the kitchen. Shrimp stuff is good. I am not a fan of the pork shu mai or any pork globs in general. The ladies pushing the carts are pretty easy going. Some can be a bit pushy but just push back and say no when something looks a little random. I love the beef stew but I also would say that most people I go with do not.

I come to Jade villa for the dumplings, chicken feet and the hot tea! Sundays are great if you get the chance to come in for dumpling hour during lunch. The best part about this place is the food, service needs alittle work though but if your willing to look past the typical fast paced "get your food and eat" service your in for a treat.

Chinese American born and bred in DC and access to some pretty good Chinese/dim sum places...this is the best Chinese restaurant in HR. Also, it's probably the ONLY one in HR that serves pretty authentic fare. Two words: Red Menu...aka "The Chinese Menu" Get it...try it. Our faves from that menu include the spicy salty eggplant stuffed with shrimp (see Evan K's pics), salty fish and chicken fried rice, chicken chow mein (aka pan-fried noodles and make sure you specify you want the white sauce not the soy-based version), shrimp & scallops with stir-fried veggies, any Chinese veggie currently in season sauteed with garlic, beef chow foon with Chinese broccoli, and HK-style wonton soup...emphasis on the HONG KONG as the American version is downright NASTY. Their HK-style wontons are actually better than any I can find back at home. Love, love, love them...plus they're served with Shanghai bok choy which lends a great flavor to the MSG-ladened broth. So, we just try to concentrate on the wontons and veggies and not so much on the MSG...err, broth. Ok...pretty much everything has MSG there...even the stir-fried veggies. Dim sum...ummm...I love you, JV, but NO THANK YOU. We save our $$ for our weekend trips up to DC. I gave them two chances...once in 2000 and another in 2009...suffice to say the consistency was there...consistently not up to par with what I could find further up North. We definitely avoid ordering the dim sum here. BUT...if I didn't know I could find better 3 hours away...it would probably have to suffice. If we're craving Chinese food...this is our ONLY choice because this is the ONLY restaurant that serves the most unAmericanized Chinese food in the area...ONLY. And don't forget...RED MENU.

Really reminiscent of those great hole-in-the-wall spots in Chinatown. I see a bunch of snobs up here complaining it isn't authentic enough for their tastes. Go to China if you fools are going to complain about irrelevant stuff like that. Last time I checked this was Virginia.. and for VA, the place is legit. Also a fan of the late-night hours. Perfect place to get my drunk munchies on.

Best Chinese food around VA beach! The chicken lo mein is amazing, definitely my favorite! And the roasted duck is good too. Dim sum on the weekends is great, but it gets pretty busy so sometimes you don't always get the food you want because they run out of the dish before getting to your table. If you want some good authentic Chinese food, go to jade villa!

  • Harry L.

If you are looking for authentic Chinese Dim Sum, dis is the place. The times my wife and I have gone, we are the minority. Again, authentic. I agree with another reviewer when they recommended not ordering lo mein or any other Americanized version of Chinese food. Enjoy the talents of the chef with the dim sum. And I recommend arriving early.

All right here's the scoop on this place. Things to consider when you read this review. I'm asian. I'm chinese. I'm from all over the place and have had high quality dim sum from Hong Kong and California. As far as I know, this is the only Chinese restaurant in the Hampton Roads area that serves dim sum. I'm trying to be as honest here as I can without being biased =). I went around 3pm on a Saturday and there was no concern for any lines. They serve dim sum in carts until about 2 so I wasn't expecting it to be served to me in this way. They have a dim sum menu as well as an a la carte menu. If you're looking just to take your friends for a first time dim sum experience, then I'd say this place would be all right for that. Their dim sum menu has all the things you'd expect at all dim sum restaurants... siu mai...shrimp dumplings... chicken feet...lotus leaf rice...egg tarts. However, they won't have any *specialty* things like thousand layer cake, almond cake, egg yoke baos etc. Their a la carte menu is limited as well, but you'll find the general Americanized food. Fried rice, fried noodles... but they also have a limited selection of sea food (steamed cod, lobster etc). They also have beef chow fun which is hard to come by here in VA beach as well as Singapore style chow mai fun. All in all, the restaurant will satisfy your cravings for dim sum. I do have to comment on their freshness though. The food tasted fine, but I did think that some of the foods were on the bland side and not all that entirely fresh. Service was quick and they speak both English and Cantonese. They are located in a strip mall type setting and there is only 1 small entrance into the parking lot so drive slowly otherwise you'll have to make a U turn.

This place wasn't what I expected. I've had way better Chinese food. Maybe I ordered all the wrong things. I've should have ordered dimsum. They don't clean the shrimp, so be weary of the shrimp fried rice or anything with shrimp. The only thing good was the sesame balls.

    (1)
  • Feng Z.

I've had better. The Dim Sum is over priced and most importantly the items I had was not fresh. The spare ribs was flavorless, shark fin dumplings are stale and they used eye of the round steak for their braised brisket and roots, instead of the proper brisket. For the only Dim Sum place in the area, I was able to get in on a Saturday morning around noon with no wait. Typically, that says a lot about the place.

My favorite chinese restaurant in Virginia Beach! Similar to other reviewers, I'm asian and have eaten dim sum in LA, San Francisco, NYC, and Hong Kong, and I love dim sum. They have a wide selection of dishes which are done quite well. My favorite is daichon and I have to get my fix at least every other week. One weekend, my buddies were pretty impressed when we got in, ate, and left in under 45 minutes, but still felt pretty satiated... Check it out - you'll like it. Do pay attention to the driving and parking directions - when you're jonesing for dim sum, driving around can get on your nerves!

  • Ya Z.

Much better than the other fast food versions of Chinese food in the area. Love the dim-sum menu. I like the "weird" stuff, such as the steamed chicken feet and beef tripe. Another delicious item is the Peking Duck. I've always had it as a whole, but they serve it deboned (which I thought was convenient) with steamed buns, hoisin sauce and leeks.

When the USA defaults on its loans and China assumes ownership of Hampton Roads, it has to be said it could be a delicious experience. This is the place the local Asian population goes to. You wouldn't even know the location is there, unless you heard about it from a friend of a friend. Its like the underground railroad for authentic Chinese. Its not about decor, its not about the parking, its not about the price. It's about the menu. In fact there are two of them. One for casual, and one for hardcore. I haven't ventured into the latter yet. I'm still working my way through the amateur bracket. It should go without saying at this point that the Mongolian Beef is excellent, and the Sesame Chicken is awesome. I haven't even tried the Dim-Sum yet and ill bet its going to be great. Actually I don't know why i'm sitting around typing this when i should be planning my next trip here, you should do the same.

Excellent dim sum! Fresh and tasty. Service was great and fast. We went on a Sunday 15 minutes before it opened. 10 minutes later, a line began to form. This place is a must. Wish I lived in Virginia Beach.

My first visit here some years ago, I was so taken by their food. I thought I fin'lly found some authentic Chinse cuisine but when I came back there while I was in Va, I was so disappointed. It was nothing close to what I've had the 1st time and to add insult to injury, the crowd that evening consisted of 20+party was very loud, obnoxious and so disrespectful of other diners and the owners/management didn't seem to be bothered nor care if others were disturbed by the loudness of the group. Some of them obviously have had too much to drink. I was getting pissed that it ruined my mood and hardly enjoyed the foods in front of me. If you ask me, I will have to think twice before going back there again! Maybe for food but the kind of crowd I had to endure that night was unbelievable and if the management allows it then maybe they should close the place to public whenever there's a private party going on. Just my 2 cents!

The last time I went, we came in a group of 6. We weren't seated after 90 minutes. We left. I won't be going back. When I have been lucky enough to be seated there, the food has been disappointing. The food isn't terrible, but there isn't a dish that stands out as great. They have some pork buns, but they're sickeningly sweet... I fear if I eat more than half of one, I might be stricken with diabetes. If you like greasy and sweet food, this place might suit you fine. It didn't do the trick for me.

This is the Asian hotspot on the weekends, but probably because it is the only place for Dim Sum within a 75 mile radius. As for food quality, variety, and taste, it's average. Don't expect to be tucking into some LA, NY, or even Rockville, MD quality here, but when the craving hits, it is the only option. The Dim Sum is pushed around on carts, and all the traditional offerings are here. Shui Mai, Ha Gow, Fried Turnip Cake, Chicken Feet, and Egg Tarts. The rice noodle "burritos" (Cheung Fun) are good and most everything is made on premises. You can also order dishes off the menu if nothing is appealing on the carts. Come early though. Dim Sum starts at 11:00 on Sat/Sun and the line gets pretty long by then. Get there around 10:45 and you're good. Any later than 11:00 and you'll be waiting for an hour as Dim Sum is a considered a leisurely lunch, and seating is limited.

This may not be the worlds best dim sum but it sure is the best in our area. I love the leek dumplings, the steamed shrimp dumplings, the fried meat and yucca dumplings(?) garlic spare ribs, kangee and the chrysanthemum (sp?) tea. I crave this place constantly and go there at least once a month. I hope you try and like it! Tip, get their early or later in the day, it gets slammed right at 11, usually a line out the door!

If you are looking for authentic chinese food in Hampton Roads this is the place to go! Best Dim Sum and the service is great! The Salted and Spicy shrimp and the seafood pan friend noodles is delicious! The Har Gaw (shrimp dumplings) are the best. I have to admit I did try other Dim Sum restaurants that have tried to compare to Jade Villa but none of them have compared to their freshness and original dishes. Plus the service is great and the prices are easy on the economy. My favorite Chinese restaurant in Hampton Roads by far!

Best Chinese restaurant in Virginia that I've been to thus far. First they have two menus, one is traditional Chinese and the other is Chinese-American. I have only eaten the traditional Chinese menu but the Americanized dishes looked good for what they were. This is Cantonese Chinese food and they have a vibrant dim sum crowd on the weekends. There dim sum is good and unlike some places get it to you hot. The clams with black bean sauce are always a winner. Their menu is even better. I am particularly fond of the salty spicy squid shrimp and scallop combo as well as the cuttlefish. Beef Chow Foon noodles with sauce is also very good. If you are a fan of XO sauce they have a wide variety of options. My favorite dish is probably the stuffed eggplant with shrimp paste and a combination of tofu, hot pepper (really hot) and shrimp. The Hong Kong style wonton noodle soup is also good (serves 4-5). It gets very crowded especially late into the evening. Definitely a must if you like more authentic style Chinese.

  • Irwin L.

I'd give this place a 3.5 if there was one. I come here when I'm too lazy to drive up to Full Kee in Richmond. Mediocre I must say. The ha gau (steamed shrimp dumplings) tastes like it can be found in the frozen section of a grocery store and the siu mai (steamed pork dumplings) are way too oily. Other than that, not too shabby for Virginia Beach.

    (3)
  • Cameron T.

We've only dropped by on the weekends when they are serving Dim Sum, so I can't comment on the regular dinners and lunches. It's usually very crowded with lots of asian families. They offer the dim sum varieties on carts like the traditional dim sum restaurants. Everything is pretty decent. We've tried the ha gow, shu mai, sticky rice, egg tarts, various dumplings, and have ordered beef chow fun a few times. For the most part it's pretty decent, but occasionally our food was a little bland or not as hot as it should have been. Best bet is to go early on the weekends. The food is freshier, hotter, and you'll beat the crowds.

Pros: Traditional dishes and Dim sum usually weekends for brunch, but will prepare to order as well on some dishes. Cons: The only one of its kind in Hampton Roads so quality may be abstract. Know before you go: I stress that if you aren't one to enjoy trying the real stuff don't make a bad review about it. - Such as, just because I'm use to Burger King and McDonald's does not give me the right to accurately rate a Steakhouse. (This is not true of course, but I'm just making a fictitious example) My thoughts: I'm from NYC born and raised in Chinatown. I don't believe this place compares to that at all, but it's the best to be had here in the Hampton Roads. It might be the only one to be had, but it's not to say that it's bad - it's acceptable. If you get there early enough for the first few batches of egg custards, those are really good... if you go later in the day, you may want to consider skipping them, because since it's more crowded the quality tends to decline as the demand gets higher and they don't have enough steamers to get them out fast enough - which can lead them to be undercooked (still edible but not as good). The rest of the Dim Sum is pretty standard, as these are normally made in advance it's just a matter of steaming them. The rest of the food - dinner menu - can be standard or traditional depending how adventurous you are. Some of these delicacies include razor clams, snails, duck tongue... and there's probably some I haven't tried yet. Again these are all good for Hampton Roads, but if you are from a big city and normally get this fairly easily, these can of course be made better. I particularly enjoyed the duck tongue however. It's made in a simple sauce, but the way it's done is neither overcooked, where it's so soft to be enjoyable, nor undercooked, where it's too chewy. It's a delicacy and it can get expensive - as the French very well know how to grab your attention with such. Just think, for 16 bux, you can get a plateful whereas in a French Restaurant, you might only get 1/3 the portion for the same price, but they pretty it up a bit. Alternatives: none... unless you prefer Chinese Fast Food...

I visited with my wife and her sister(Who wrote a review also) around noon on one Saturday. I wanted to get there early from hearing it can get packed here on Yelp. There were several carts moving around the resturant. As one of the carts rolled around to me, We started with Gyoza. They were delish. Large, toothsome and tasty with a nice sauce. My wife didnt care for them. We ended up ordering all sorts of other dishes, one of which was fairly strange. It was a gelatinous fish ball on top of a not so appetizing mushroom. It had a slight earthy flavor and sort of "strange" texture. The shrimp dumpling/shumai were ok, I really enjoyed the sesame balls, the steamed buns were very tasty. It was not as I expected, but there are things I would get again, and there are things I would not get again. If you are adventurous, you should try this place. I would eat here again and get the steamed buns and sesame balls.

Had to get my authenic chinese food fix! Ordered my congee and it was perfect . The noodles were not the greatest...really had no taste but nothing compares to the chef in Chinatown, NYC. Would probably come back to try the dim sum another time.

Hands down the best dim sum around. No, it probably isn't as good as some people have had in New York's or San Francisco's Chinatowns, but it's still damn good! I've never had a hot dish served cold there and the staff has always been really friendly. Yeah, sometimes the wait can be a little long (especially for groups of five or more), but it's always worth it. As far as being overpriced, I couldn't disagree more. I can gorge myself on spare ribs, shumai, chicken feet, shrimp crepe, etc for less than $20. Huge fan!

A little pricey, but you definitely get your money's worth in both quantity and quality. It's open late on the weekends and in my experience I have always been seated right away. I hate longgg waits for a table.

The Dim Sum is good - haven't ordered off the regular menu, but as for the Dim Sum, I would say that there is a satisfactorily diverse selection of dishes, and they are not too greasy. Only downside to the place is that if you go on a Saturday or Sunday, you have to make sure to arrive fairly early if you want to get a good table before the mayhem sets in.

I went to Jade Villa last night with my cousin and we got some take out. She was raving about this place as some authentic chinese food so I was really down to try it out. The restaurant is kind of a hole in the wall. I found it pretty unusual how you walk in only to be greeted by another door, that resembles like a bathroom door to me. Once you go in you see plenty of seats and tables. You need to walk all the way in the back to order some take out. We ordered some crispy noodles, salted garlic porkchops, sio mai (sp?), and a fried fish. Let me come out and say that the food is excellent. This is not like your normal Panda Express type place. The food taste pretty authentic. I LOVE the crispy noodles. They serve the noodles and put a nice sauce over it. It tastes excellent. The salted garlic porkchops were also good as well. It was a little spicy but it did have some nice flavor to it. The sio mai (sp?) was VERY tasty. I dipped them into some soy sauce and it tasted excellent. I don't recall the name of the fried fish that we ordered but it was great as well. The skin was really crunchy and the white inner was soft. Overall, I recommend this place if you are looking for some authentic chinese food in the area. I'll be sure to visit this place again when I visit.

Their food is good but I swear it's always cold, especially their Shrimp rice crepes. There is usually a wait on the weekends and the service is good. It's not toooo loud (notice the extra "oooo"). They have some fried rice covered in a clear bowl in the carts and I'd like to say that they taste...not very good. My husband loves their fried ribs, I can pass. They have this sweet ginger tofu in some kind of syrup that the server told me was a dessert. Uh, no. It was gross especially for someone who is willing to give anything a try. Their har gaow or shrimp dumplings are really good. Overall, it's an okay joint. Maybe the best in Virginia beach (out of the 2 or three in the area :[ ). Careful with the dim sum lady that will literally put plates on your table before you get to say no! Haha.

we'r chinese and we were not disappointed by this restaurant. To be honest, this is not the best chinese rest on earth, but what do u expect in the US!! We tried the vegetable and tofu soup and that was nt bad,,, also got chicken feet n ham sui kok for dim sum, also get HK style BBQ pork (cha siu), and bean curb with veggie... Overall, yum yum, enough selection of food.... except the door is a little weird and they dont open until 4 during weekdays

It's the best Dim Sum in Virginia Beach! But then, it's the only Dim Sum in Virginia Beach. The dumplings we tried were fairly good. There were probably around 15 or so different options on the carts, mostly typical things like siu mai and chicken/pork dumplings. In terms of atmosphere, it was a bit hole-in-the-wall looking, with barely enough room to roll the carts through. White walls, not a lot of decoration. (But who needs that stuff if the food is good?) The restaurant had about 8 or so tables and they were all in use. The staff was polite and quick. Altogether it was about as authentic of a chinese food experience as you will get in the Hampton Roads area, but compared to the other dim sum places I have been to, it was lacking in dish options and atmosphere. My husband didn't care for dim sum when we went in Atlanta, and unfortunately, this was not the place to go to change his mind.

When a friend told me about a little known place "where all the Chinese in Virginia Beach and Norfolk go" I was skeptical. Little did I know! In a strip mall with Federico's and Kanpai Sushi, you enter Jade Villa through a drab little ante-room with metal chairs - talk about being underwhelmed. Jade Villa is fantastic! Open only in the evening and for Dim Sum and lunch on the weekends, it's worth the wait, and there's often a line on Sunday. Dim Sum is Jade Villa's specialty and a limited Dim Sum menu is available everyday. Dim Sum, once served in only a few places in large cities' 'Chinatown' is ubiquitous today, and for most part average at best. Jade Villa, in my opinion compares to the better DS spots in San Francisco and New York offering hard to find dishes such as turnip and taro cakes, salted fish and meat dishes, steamed buns w leek, black mushroom, and meat and seafood stuffing in addition to the standards - spring rolls, shumai and dumplings. All are delicious, and served from steam carts with traditional condiments. As Tanya L mentions, if you want something beyond the usual General Tso's this or that, sesame or kung pao chicken, etc., ask for the 'Chinese Menu.' In addition to salted meat and seafood dishes you'll find sea cucumber, crab, whole-cooked fish and wonderful vegetable offerings. I had a green veggie dish described as chinese watercress - flash stir-fried with lots of garlic, a dash of sweet wine vinegar and soy, and lemon juice. It was wonderful. The fish special the recent night we visited was sea bass cooked with fresh basil. The fish, probably 8 ounces of boneless filet with skin, was steamed and topped with a reduced, clear broth of stock, rice wine and lots of basil leaves. The rich, nutty flavored sauce with soft but still snappy basil was a perfect complement to the semi-firm, buttery consistency of the fish. Heavenly! Jade Villa's menu is fairly extensive, not to the level or with the variety you'll find in SF or NYC, but it's not far behind. Prices are right on the mark w appetizers from a couple of dollars to lobster, crab, whole fish entrees above $20. It's a great value, has an excellent staff more than willing to make recommendations, and the food is far and away the best in the Tidewater region.

Great dim sum selection and quality...equally good for dinner off the menu. If you decide to come for dinner or supplement your dim sum selections with options from the menu, be sure to look at the red menu which is much more authentic fare. From the dim sum carts some of my favorites include the har gao, shu mai, garlic spareribs, and the stuffed eggplant with garlic sauce. Some of my favorite samplings from the red menu include the eggplant (stuffed with shrimp, fried, and topped with fried garlic and jalepenos), the beef chow fun w/ xo sauce, and the steamed sea bass in a soy/seseme broth and topped with sliced scallions. This place is certainly on par if not better than what I have sampled in NYC's chinatown, but I have not yet been to flushing. The variety here is really fantastic...could really find something for everyone here including the picky eaters.

I've only been here for the dim sum. It is always a great experience. It's always crowded so it's best to get there right when they open.

Above average dimsum at its best. The service absolutely stinks. Expect some wait time on Sunday morning, maybe standing in line. The traditional family style dishes are great, highly recommended.

THE nastiest place ever! Their dim sum tasted like rotten meat being rotted for decades.20 minutes into our dim sum, we started to feel nauseous and wanted to vomit so we left so fast as if we just bit into a dead rat. So gross!!! Avoid at all cost, disgusting beyond your imagination.

This is the only dim sum place in Hampton Roads and probably one of the most authentic Chinese restaurants that you will find in the area as well. Sadly, there aren't many good, authentic Chinese places around here. It won't compare to the Chinese fare you'll find in NYC or San Francisco, but it's pretty good! My family and I are regulars. If you come for dim sum on the weekends, get there early. There is always a huge line, and several of the dishes, such as the egg tarts, will be gone if you get there after say 2 pm. I like the chicken feet, the pork ribs, the chives dumplings, the congee, and the egg tarts. Delicious! As for the regular menu, it's pretty authentic Cantonese food. Some of my favorites are the frog bao, salty fish and eggplant, and the flounder. Service is fast and efficient. The place is usually filled with Asian families, so you know that it's authentic.

This place was great! I'm from a city that his a high Vietnamese population and we have tons of Dim Sum restaurants all over. This place reminding me of home. The only difference? Its actually run by Chinese people and not Vietnamese people (though we did have a waitress who was Vietnamese). With that said. The food was good, not the best, but it was good. That is why I gave it a 4 out of 5 stars. But reading other reviews I guess this place is the only Dim Sum restaurant in Virginia Beach. It was crowded which is a plus and other Chinese and Vietnamese people were eating here (a good sign). Food comes on those carts and you get to choose what you want to eat. I believe we almost ate everything that was on the cart from chicken feet to ha gau to siu mai. Yum! Tip: For some reason I find that eating Dim Sum is better during the weekends. Sundays they serve it from 10am-3pm. We will probably come back again. Very delish.

That was our 3rd time in JV and this time it was really disappointing. Some of the dishes were definitively cooked before and reheated, shrimp were tasting not fresh, Pineapple buns were worst we ever had.

Trying to review Jade Villa is almost like reviewing 4 restaurants in one. First you have dinner which is two, then late night, then dim sum.. First to dinner. The reason dinner is two restaurants is that they have two menus: They have the white menu which is fairly standard boring every day chinese.. then there is the Red menu. The red menu consists of things you will probably only find in large Chinese communities. We are talking duck tongue, sea cucumber, tripe, and all the naughty squeeky bits that most people throw away. It may seem like its a menu out of Bizzare foods, but dont be afraid its is wonderful.. The second part is late night.. After 10 or so it turns into a place where the local Chinese community goes.. It is packed. love to see whole groups sitting around slurping noodle soups spinning around the lazy susan cracking spicy crab and having a blast. Finally dim sum.. They do the traditional Dim sum with carts going around and you pick your plate and they tick off your sheet as to what you had.. Great dumplings, congee, and they do have chicken feet. If your not chinese as i am not you may have to ask for them. I got a few looks by the waitress when i asked for them.. I assured her i did so i got them.. They were very good.. Ive been to Dim Sum in NYC, DC and Boston and this isnt that far behind. One warning Dim Sum fills up quick so get their early..

Jade Villa is the HOT tip for late night dining. They carry full menu and full bar until 1:30 am EVERY night... which makes it a perfect stop for us night owls. They don't have the full dim sum menu that late, but the selections they do have are awesome. Authentic Cantonese menu is served as well as a menu carrying more "Americanized" fare. We have found absolutely everything delicious and worth ordering enough to have lunch the next day. Decor is pretty plain... but it's made up for with the food and the warmth of the hosts. We always feel right at home and like all the employees there are genuinely glad to see us again and again. Service is fast and friendly. Roger is almost always on hand to chat and check on you as well as serve if things get extra busy. We go as often as we can and can't recommend it enough that you do the same!

The best it'll get for the beach area. It's a MSG overload for my system, but the congee is good and love the chicken feet!

Today, was a great day for dim sum after church! Dim sum was hot and quick. We always get the Chinese broccoli, shumai, hockeye ( sorry for incorrect spelling), steamed spare ribs, dumplings, and other goodies! This is a great go-to place!

The dim sum is good. I have been there many times (only for the dim sum) and had dim sum at a quite a lot of other places in bigger cities around the country. The dim sum here stacks up well anywhere...DC, Seattle, and Honolulu to name some. There is a good selection of choices and they all are prepared well. There is a wait when you go during the busy times fo Sat and Sunday lunchtime, but that is when they have the most carts out so it is the best time to go.

My very favorite Chinese place in the area. Period. Fantastic dim sum that is available all the time, not just on the weekend when they go around with the carts. 75% I would say of what you can get on "cart day" is available throughout the week. Really authentic menu available (ask for the red menu), or if you aren't ready to try "the real deal" ask for the white menu which has your standard Chinese American fare on it. I've eaten many an item on both menus and have never ever been disappointed. Have the late night munchies? They are open until 1:30 AM. What are you waiting for? Go get some dim sum!!!!

This is the only place I know in Hampton Roads where you can get the Dim Sum in carts. If you don't know what that is, I suggest you try it. It's small servings like Tapas. I always bring guests from out of town here. Love this place and the staff.

Finally went for dim sum! We got there around 2:15 after mass, it seemed like the perfect time to go because it wasn't so crowded like I hear it is in the morning. As soon as we sat down, the first cart pulled up! We got baked char siu bao (Chinese bbq pork in bread), baked custard bao, steamed shrimp look fun (fat rice noodles), deep fried taro, turnip cakes, leek dumplings, and fried pork chops. Before that cart left, boom, the steamed cart pulls up! We got Har gow (steamed shrimp dumplings), siu mai (pork & shrimp dumping), sticky rice in lotus leaf, and bean curd. Then another cart pulled up and we got Daikon and beef and stuffed tofu. Yes, we got LOTS of stuff. The beauty of dim sum is it's all small plates so you can get a taste of lots of stuff. There was a lot more we didn't get to try this time but will next time. I see this becoming a frequent after church dining spot :) Service as always was great. I love Jade Villa! Thank you for giving me a taste of home :)

Finally been back after ten years to try out the red menu. Salted and fried items are very good here and have the traditional Chinese fry which is much different than what you normally find in Chinese restaurants. I am disappointed that they serve shark fin soup. I thought that you could not get that in the States but must be mistaken. I had already ordered by the time I realized it or I would have left.

Have been here several times and have always left with a happy tummy. Tonight, I tried the wonton soup with noodle (Hong Kong style) and ordered a few things off the Dim Sum menu (ask for one when you sit down). The flavor of the broth was nice and the wontons were great. I was a little disappointed with the noodle. I guess I was expecting a ramen-like noodle, but it was more firm than what I like. Next time I'll just order the wonton soup (Hong Kong style). The things I tried from the dim sum menu was the fried shrimp balls, shu Mai, shrimp dumplings. They were all good and cheap! Tried my friends' salted and spicy chicken wings and squid. If you like garlic, you love these dishes! I would give them 5 stars, but the place needs an interior makeover. I think if they renovated the restaurant a little, they would have more customers!

Blah food. We even ordered off the 'traditional' red menu. Gotta be better chinese and dim sum place. Only redeeming quality about meal was the fried sesame balls for dessert.

This place has the rudest host and servers. We came in with a big group of fourteen people when the place was half empty, and the lady who was setting up the table gave us an attitude and told us to call first next time. We decided to take our few hundred dollars of business elsewhere. This should be zero stars.

Jade villa has been a VB hotspot for a long time, especially for the night crowds which is the time I usually go bc they close at 2 am which is great bc not much places here are late night. I recently started coming here a few years back. Tucked in the outskirts of the Pembroke area down Independence it's location is perfect because Jade Villa is near other facilities such as Pembroke Mall, Town Center, and such. It neighbors two other locations I like to eat at near Kanpai Sushi and The Village Inn (which is also is open late at night). When you come in it's outdated, decor is sparse, and overall dingy feel. They have two menus, the red one is the "authentic" Chinese menu and the white one is the Chinese-American style cuisine. My to-go favorites are the Walnut Shrimp, Tender Beef in Wonderful Sauce, and Peaking Duck. I've also tried their soups and their wonton soup is exceptional. The broth is light and savory and simplicity in the flavor goes a long way. Depending on how busy it is, the service can be a bit slow at times. Overall I've never had a problem with any of the severs, they know how do their job, orders have always come out right and on time. The food makes up for it and I highly recommend this place for anyway wanting to break out of their usual Chinese take out meals. Jade Villa is a treat!and bring at least 2 people with you, bc you're going to want to try everything!

Nothing gets better than Jade Villa. This is my go to spot for the best authentic Chinese food late night or during the day. I highly suggest ordering from the Chinese menu because the entrees are authentic and not like every other Chinese restaurant (sweet & sour chicken, general chicken etc) Salty and Spicy calamari, soft shell crab, short ribs, porkchops are all of my fave. Beef with wonderful sauce is my go to dish as well. Definitely try this place out when your in town, you won't complain.

Let me start off by saying that I do not like chinese food at all. I've never been a fan of it and it's definitely not my first choice when it comes to finding something to eat. With that said, the ONE Chinese food place I love is Jade Villa. They have everything from your typical General Tso's Chicken to tripe and chicken feet. Some of our favorites include salt and spicy: - pork chops - calamari - soft shell crab The salted rice with chicken in fish is also very good. On Sundays they have dim sum carts that walk around and it is all very tasty. The reason they get 4 stars and not 5 is that sometimes the service is not great. Particularly on Dim Sum day it gets busy and so the stress level can get pretty high, pretty quickly. On every other time I've come, the service has been fine and they've been great with my children. Again, if you want real Chinese food, this is the place to go! Another plus side is that they stay open late!

Staff: very friendly and fast service. Food: they have three different menu's white is the american Chinese style food, Red traditional Chinese cuisine then the last and my favorite us the dim sum menu. So much food to choose from and I can't express how happy I am to have found a place out here that has good Chinese flavored food. Looks: gets very busy fast and don't trust the open sign to be on. Just because they don't turn it on doesn't mean they aren't open. They are open just walk up and is the glass doors are open then they are open lol.

First off, the fact that there is SHARK FIN soup on the menu should have made me walk out immediately. I will never step foot in this restaurant again as long as that is on the menu. A whole shark is literally left to die finless for the joy of a few bowls of soup. This is completely unacceptable. Second, the quality of the meat in both the main dishes and appetizer menu not only looked old and cheap but also tasted old and cheap. I am half Asian, I enjoy Asian food and I have a great taste palette to tell if food is cheap quality. I have yet to find a Cantonese restaurant in the area that puts quality over quantity. Also- Carpeted floors, a great way to collect dust and all sorts of bacteria. I think all restaurants should be required to have hardwood, tile or cement for health reasons. I really wanted to like this place but there is a lot of necessary improvement to be made.

For great late night eats and real Asian cuisine look no further than Jade Villa. I love their two menus; the white one is standard Asian fare and the red one is more authentic cuisine. Both are amazing; simple to exotic. But just because you heard of some of the dishes doesn't mean you tasted anything like them. Great layers of flavor go through out bring basic dishes into a whole new light. I love trying new favorites and working through both menus.

Wtf? I ordered the tofu family style and it was the grossest dish I have ever encountered at a Chinese restaurant ever, and if you know me, you know that I eat Chinese food at least once a week. I tried my dish but started gagging so much that I had to spit it out. The waiter didn't really care and I still had to pay for it...but at that point I didn't care because I just wanted to find a bathroom so I could puke in peace. I eat tofu on a regular basis but this tofu was disgusting and the sauce made me gag immediately. The food was overpriced compared to other restaurants in the area. This is the last time I will ever go here.

The food here is very delicious. It's the best authentic Chinese food restaurant in VB area. It's open til late, so it can be great place to hang out and grab food with family/friends after a long day or even after a few drinks at a bar. The Dim Sums are so Delicious, especially the Shumai with shrimp and pork. My favorite entrée here is the Mongolian Beef, YuM. Also tried there Peking Duck for the 1st time and it was on point. This can also be an Awesome place to have parties/events w/ family and friends.

Jade Villa is fun! Great for yummy dim sum. Everything is made fresh and on the premises. My favorite is the steamed BBQ pork buns! I love being able to sample different foods the cart service makes it easier for those who do not know the Chinese language- to choose items which look tasty. Service is good. Prices are excellent!

I feel like I'm on a Vice episode of Fresh off the Boat with Eddie Huang whenever I eat here. They provide very authentic Chinese food and it's the most non-Americanized Chinese food that can find in the area next to Judy's Sichuan. It is delicious, especially if you're itching for some Chinese food. I was first introduced to this restaurant by Shiela E. & her family maybe 10-11 years ago. Since then I've been a huge fan. It's a popular restaurant by most foodies I often crave dishes from this place, yet I probably don't go here as much as I want/should. It's a toss up between salt and spicy pork chop, salt and spicy calamari, and peking duck when it comes to my favorite dish. My favorite soup is definitely the duck soup though. I've tried many of their dishes and plan to try more. Not to mention it's been forever since the last time I've had their dim sum. The best thing about this restaurant is that they're open 'til 1:30 a.m. That allows you to end a great night out with some really bangin' food.

LOVED THIS PLACE! If you are looking for a truly authentic Chinese restaurant look no further. Personally I recommend the steam buns and Peking Duck. The steam buns come on a cart and the staff logs how many you have had. Soup dumplings also come this way and there are lots of choices to choose from. If you are going there for the steam buns or the dumplings make sure you get there early because when they run out there are no more. The Peking Duck was awesome. There are two sizes offered. If you are eating it by yourself get the small one. It is a copious amount of food, considering that it comes with the scallions, sauce, and pancakes that it is supposed to have. If there are two people eating it, in this case my Dad and I get the whole duck. The service was fantastic. They answered all of my parent's questions and were patient with my partially deaf guest. They were also very attentive with the tea we ordered and the water in our glasses was never near empty. When I return to VA Beach, I will most certainly becoming to eat here.

Firstly I would like to applaud this place for staying open late night. That's the way to really pack in loyal customers around here. I would call their food very authentic, but not overly great. I couldn't stomach the egg roll, which had a seaweed taste that was a bit funky, but the kung pao chicken had good flavor despite been made of thigh meat and having too many green peppers chopped up in it. The atmosphere was really bad inside the place, its like a huge open hall with horribly uncomfortable chairs and the waitress service is bad. I recommend taking out from here which is open til like 1 or 2am all week.

30 minutes wait at 11:30am, bunch of Asians waiting so I anticipate this to be pretty decent. The dim sum was quite good and service was fast. Able to taste a good number of dishes. Just like traditional dim sum places, they have different carts rolling around and you literally just say yes or no to the dishes. Place seemed clean. The decor could be better, but it's a restaurant, and all I care for is if the food is good or not.

Service and overall quality of food should be enough to consider this place 1 star. We walk into this place and caught a waitress' eye from across the place, she waves and points her finger to the closest table to her and says sit down 3 people. I had 2 guests with me that experienced this nightmare which was only supposed to be a quick delicious dinner. There were too many flaws in their service to list all of them but here are a few...when they came out with our pork buns, a hair caught our attention and if we weren't starving for some food, we would've just left. Instead, we let someone know and they took it back. A few minutes later, what looked like the same plate of buns, minus the hair, was served. I thought I reached my limit of tolerating bad service and gross food when the walnut shrimp came out. We asked our waitress when ordering, if it was made with mayo and sweet and she said yes sweet and mayonnaise in a broken English and put our order in for this. When the plate came out, my senses were hit stupid with the stench of a jar of mayo. These soggy little pieces of shrimp were smothered and covered in just mayo. Gross...and some nuts to top it off. The smell was so off-putting that I asked...kinda begged...the waitress to remove it from our table. The woman said what mayonnaise you ask for mayonnaise, I tell u. I told the woman, whatever IT is, please remove IT from my presence. It smelled that bad I begged and asked them to hurry. So then...the rest of the dishes come out...the real reason we were there...the duck...it was eh reg Chinese place duck. Oh and to add another level of rude service/attitude, the same waitress comes over and bends over towards our table and sternly says, good now. Like an immature way of still "providing service"....whatever lady...I was raised to respect my elders and it was really difficult for me to bite my tongue the entire time we were there. Point is...do not waste your time here...there are far better places in va beach with much better food and service. Just a tip, they should have the servers understand and be able to communicate at a decent level with their customers to avoid miscommunication and other issues. Edit* I forgot to mention that the server asked if I wanted a box for it...even after seeing how repulsed I was...and I declined. She went ahead and charged me around $15 for that jar of mayo on a plate.

Very tasty.Dim sum is extensive and freshly prepared. I've had several items from the "Red" menu, definitely a taste adventure. Consistently good food and service even late night;). It can get a bit slow with larger crowds but, worth the wait. Cheers

Went there on Saturday for Dim Sum. Delicious. They walk around with the carts and you can pick what you want. I completely recommend this place. Try a little bit of everything. Reasonably priced for the quality of food you are getting. It does get pretty packed though so you might want to show up right when they open. No idea how they are during non Dim Sum times.

First time eating here and last... Walking in felt like I was going into a dungeonesque ride attraction, what no cool intro video?!. That's the vibe I got when I walked in. We were seated rather quickly but it looked like some converted office space. I was wondering about some of the dingy wall spots, marble walls who owns this place? Ok well you're given two menus one red and one white, pssttt...the drinks are in the white one. I felt like I was in the matrix, make your meal choice. It was serious, I opted for the red and was thrown back by the food options: shark fin soup, jellyfish something, frog in garlic sauce, eel butt j/k about that last one but seriously I was not expecting this... As the waiter showed me that drinks were in the white menu book that fell apart when opening it, how old is this book?! I went safe for a regular coke (should've ordered 2). The drinks took a while to get to the table. I went thru the safer options I was familiar with and got the chicken with broccoli. Then I read some reviews claiming there was dim sum...Ohhh I could go for that so I opted to ask. Then the other wait staff brought me some IHOP style kid menu and said pick which ones. Now the best part was that there were photos bc idk what I was ordering and I've tried it before at a different restaurant so I was jazzed. I got some taro cake one, a shrimp and chicken one, and another chicken sausage one. Out of the three 2 were good the cake style one not so much it was dry. The chicken and broccoli came, the chicken was pretty good nothing to do back flips over and there was little follow up as to how we enjoyed the meal. I felt bad for Andy, a fellow Yelper I went with since his dish looked mighty questionable. Just see his review for the photo. You have to go up to the counter in the back wait for centries and pay. The guy from what I could tell couldn't care less that I wasn't satisfied and still paid for the dish. Yeah someone else can go to this hidden oasis of adventurous dishes. I'll stick to somewhere else.

This review is only for the dim sum. I realize this is one of the few places that serves dim sum. I'm not impressed. Some of the dishes were under cooked and cold, such as the chicken feet and siu mai. The wrappers on the haw gao were dried out and tough. I'd wait for dc or nyc for good dim sum

Definitely one of the closest restaurant to authentic Chinese Food. There's dim sum on the weekend for brunch. You definitely have to come with a group and know what to order, otherwise you may get the typical chinese take out.

ok I am torn on my rating, because I absolutely love the food but the inside of the restaurant is so unkept. I mean it probably hasn't been really cleaned in years. There are no windows so I feel really closed in. The service was ok, nothing exceptional, but nothing bad. There fried rice is amazing, and the steamed dim sum is outstanding. Love the food, not the structure itself. I will def be back, but I will be ordering togo.

Okay Chinese food. Very fried and greasy, but if that's the kind you're looking for, it's good. Service could be a little better, I was waiting for a bit before someone asked me of I had been helped and there were other employees who had clearly seen me but had not come to take my order. Order ahead and get take out is my recommendation.

CRISPY WHOLE DRY ROASTED PIGEON Oops! Sorry. I was having a memory flashback. This was the dish I ordered at this restaurant about ten years ago, right off the list of their evening specials. I'm serious. My pigeon arrived on my plate that evening standing straight up, with its, eyes, beak, and feet fully intact. It was one of the most awesome and memorable dishes I have enjoyed in my lifetime. Unfortunately, it had been about five years since I last ate here. Having become a fully entrenched resident of the Ghent section of Norfolk, I have become very lazy in my old age when it comes to the task of making a special drive out to Virginia Beach for an evening meal. This evening I decided that enough was enough. It was long overdue for me to return, and so I did. They were slammed with diners this evening, with the vast majority of them being Asian, which I regarded as a good sign. This was always the case when I was a regular customer years ago. I was seated immediately upon my arrival. Within a few minutes after my arrival, however, several more customers had arrived and had to wait a while for a table. If I had known about Yelp back then, then Jade Villa would have been my lone five-star Chinese restaurant in the entire Hampton Roads area. This was long before Judy's Sichuan Cuisine and Peter Chang's China Grill arrived on the scene. This evening I ordered the following: SALTED AND PEPPER SOFT SHELL CRAB This was my usual and favorite dish when I was a regular customer over five years ago. Unfortunately, due to a mix-up in the kitchen, it took about an hour for my dish to arrive. During this time, two of their staff members servers came up to me personally to apologize for the delay. One of them brought me a complimentary bowl of their Egg Drop Soup, which was flavorful and deeply appreciated. When my dish finally arrived, I eagerly began digging into it. Indeed, it was very good, and almost as good as I had remembered it from years past. I do stress the word "almost." The renditions I enjoyed years ago exhibited a higher concentration of minced garlic, scallions, and chilis, which were a bit lacking this evening. In addition, my crab pieces were a bit too chewy for my tastes this time around. In years past, they exhibited a crunchier texture, which is my preference. In spite of falling short of expectations, however, it was still flavorful and satisfying. Maybe I ordered the wrong dish on the wrong evening. Throughout the evening, I was constantly swept away by the heavenly aromas emanating from the delicious looking dishes served to many of the diners around me. I ate about half of it and had the rest boxed up to take home. When I went up to pay my bill, the manager gave me a 10% discount and apologized profusely several times over the delay of my meal. I assured him that I was pleased with my meal and that I shall return. It is my intent to return at least two more times before the end of the year. I am rooting for Jade Villa to earn the five star rating I would have given it several years ago. In spite of a less than outstanding performance this evening, I still rate Jade Villa as one of the top four Chinese restaurants in the Hampton Roads area.

Jade Villa is my favorite Cantonese restaurant in the HR. The weekends are great for dim sum. My favorites things to get include the har-gow (shrimp dumplings), steamed pork buns, deep fried salted pork dumplings, taro dumplings, and eggplant with Chinese gravy. I also suggest trying the soybean dessert with ginger syrup. On other days, I love ordering off their authentic Cantonese menu. Their chow-fun is terrific. Everybody there is very helpful in answering questions, so if you're apprehensive about ordering something, just ask.

I met up with 5 friends at Jade Villa for "dim sum Sunday." My first ever experience. Servers, assigned to different dishes/portions of the meal come around with carts or trays with food. You let them know which of the offerings you want, and how many servings-the server indicates your order on an order sheet placed on your table. The big tables have a lazy suzan center so that you can just rotate the dish to the other side of the table. There are tons of pork dishes, but I don't eat pork so my options were limited. I favor the dessert dishes. And it was an enjoyable new experience with friends. OMG completely crowded. Super busy. Over a dozen people waiting at the door and outside for over an hour.

Jade Villa has become one of those places that my friends and I tend to crave at late hours in the night. I forgot how my family found this place years ago, but I'm glad they did! I love coming on Sundays for dim sum because everything is constantly cooked and fresh off the steamers. You get to pick whatever you want from the servers with the rolling carts, and they mark off on your tab what you get. Everything also comes at a reasonable price. $40 to feed a table of 6? I'll take it! I love getting the shumai, shrimp dumplings, spare ribs, shrimps crepes, pork buns, and sticky rice. For dessert, I always get the pineapple buns and taho (which is tofu with sago, or tapioca pearls). On any other day, you can order off the dim sum menu, but they only have a limited selection. It was awesome that we found this place because there is one spot in Jersey City that this comes close to! For other entrees, I like the seafood pan friend noodles, fried eggplant, and the pu pu platter when I can share it with others. The egg drop soup and beef wonton soup are also some of my faves. I've pretty much enjoyed everything I've ordered from their menu, so you really can't go wrong with Jade!

Best ever and closer than going to China for authentic Chinese food. You can get standard Chinese like general to or rarer items like chicken feet, beef, tendon and dim sum

After visiting the NOVA/DC area so much in the last few months I've sort of been accustomed to Asian spots staying open late. That doesn't happen often down here in HRVA. Everyone talks about drunk nights at Jade Villa. I've always been for Dim Sum Sundays so coming in after midnight was certainly new to me. Sadly, no drunkies were in attendance. I ordered the fried spare ribs and my friend ordered the salty fried rice with fish and chicken. Both dishes were phenomenal. The spare ribs that I get at dim sum are usually smaller pieces with bones so it was nice to get some big pieces with some tendon. I really only tried to eat half the meal and save the rest for later but everything was so good we straight crushed both meals. As I see it this place and Judy's is where it's at for Chinese food. I'm due for a dim sum trip... Any want to join?

Definetaly a chinese restaurant ONLY. The crispy pata was not even close to be good. We ordered a chicken with vegetables that was very good and we also salt and pepper shrimp it was alright. Thats all I have to say about the food. From the outside the restaurant looks good but inside the carpet should be replaced and probably why the smell inside is not as good. Will I order food from this restaurant again, maybe but for delivery if any.

Dim Sum Sundays! I love Jade Villa! A bit sad that I don't frequent this place more often. First, it's a hole in a wall place, so please don't expect anything grand, because you won't get that here. Secondly, it gets ridiculously busy on Dim Sum Sundays! So if you can, send a member of your party ahead of time to secure your groups table. Lastly, contrary to popular beliefs, they do serve specialty Cantonese dishes aside from the typical Americanized Chinese food. Do arrive with an empty stomach. Do order Green Tea with your dim sum. Do ask for a pitcher of water for the table. Do park at the opposite end of the shopping center so you can get your "workout" before and after your glorious meal. Don't be rude. Don't expect any space, it gets packed. Don't fret if you don't know what to order, they can and will explain things to you if you ask. They also have menus to look at. Don't believe any reviews, experience the food and the place for yourself!

My husband and I tried this restaurant for dinner today for the first time. The restaurant gives you an authentic Chinese menu and an American version Chinese menu. The food was the right portion and it wasn't greasy.

I've been coming here for awhile now and have stood in line far in advance on Sunday mornings to ensure I beat the crowd. I've also arrived 30 mins early to ensure I get a seat. It can literally be standing room only and hour long waits. Some friends & I headed there late one evening. I ordered some dim sum and Peking Duck. I have been on the hunt for the best Peking Duck in the area. Not only was it on my bucket list but, I looked around and saw several tables that ordered it! My other friend ordered the Wonton Soup Hong Kong Style (a staple), Garlic Fried Pork, and Garlic Bok Choy. This time around was only the 2nd time I have had Peking Duck in the past several years. I can recall other times I've had it and it has NEVER tasted this good. Finally, Peking Duck that is NOT served w/ a tortilla but, a REAL BUNS/GWA PAO BUNS. I'm not Chinese but, for me..there's just something wrong w/ eating Chinese food in a tortilla...some call it "pancake"..it's a tortilla. But, I digress... The skin of the duck was semi-crisp, soft enough to melt in your mouth..not chewy. The meat and skin were seasoned well...not bland. The sauce tasted homemade..it wasn't as strong or as thick as other sauces I've had. They give a good amount of julienned green onions. The highlight was the bun(gwa pao bun) that you put the duck, sauce, and green onions in. The buns were pockets of steamed fluffy white dough. My friend said it was like Filipino Siopao dough. I would recommend one puts everything (duck, sauce, AND green onions) in the fluffy pocket as the flavors together are balanced and make this dish complete. I was so happy I had left overs that I actually scarfed down for breakfast the following day. I'll most certainly be ordering the duck again..

Chinese greasy spoon Food: Grease Price: okay Noise: Chinese spoken here Ambience: Typical dirty carpet and sticky table Attire: Grease bib Service: Hit or miss Parking: plenty Ordered: Daikon cake, sticky rice, chicken feet, pan fried noodles, chicken with salted fish fried rice, deep fried squid, braised eggplant in clay pot, beef chow fun We got the Chinese menu as opposed to the American menu, so we ordered non Chinese-American dishes. Almost everything we ordered had at least 10 pounds of oil in it. The pan fried noodles was okay because we didn't notice any grease. The chicken with salted fish fried rice was a bit bland. Everything else had grease, grease grease. Yes, I know, the grease adds to the flavor, but it was just too much for me. They open late, which is a plus since everything else around the area closes by 10pm. I will give this place another shot and try their dim sum on Sundays. Overall: Solid 3

What?! I have lived here for almost 3 years, and I JUST now found this place. I love dim sum and this place has some of the best in the area! They have the carts, which I love! They have great shumai and har gow! I went with my family, and we were in a happy mood when we left!

Wanted dim sum. I'm in Va Beach/ Tidewater.... so choices are limited. Of COURSE we come during the weekend, and about 30 minutes after they open, and they're PACKED. I got my fill, and even managed to prop my newly operated knee up on a chair while throngs of people kept coming in for the lunch hour appetizers.

I've been coming here for years, and this place still amazes me! The staff is awesome! One of my favorite things about this place is how they are opened until 130! I've definitely come here after going out, plenty of times! As a starter we always order soup! My all time favorite is the chicken and corn soup! It's pretty much egg drop soup with chicken and corn! It's AMAZING and big enough for 4 people to share. Other soups that are delicious would be the wonton soup Hong Kong style and the duck wonton soup! Another dish we always order would either be the salt and spicy pork chops or salt and spicy calamari! The fried garlic is so good, especially if you mix it with the rice! Another good dish with the fried garlic is the fried cilantro fish (fried fish filets with fried garlic and cilantro). If you prefer something not fried I would recommend getting the duck with pancakes! Also their broiled flounder is amazing! Chinese broccoli with oyster sauce is another must have! Don't forget to order dim sum! My faves are the steamed shrimp dumplings and the shumai!

I have been coming to Jade Villa for a loooong time. Considering I grew up in Pembroke Square Apartments (right behind it), it was a no brainer for mom for easy dinner nights. Fast forward to over 21 days! Holy smokes. We hit this joint up religiously. I don't drink as much anymore, but still frequent it a lot, just a bit earlier :). Their eggrolls with hot mustard are to. die. for! Seriously. My favorite dish is the green beans in black bean sauce, but tend to add meat to it depending on the day. The hunan scallops, pan fried noodles, hot & sour soup! I could go on for days. My grandparents love this place, and they tend to order off the red menu. For first trippers, white = american & red = asian. In any case, do yourself a favor and enjoy some Jade Villa.

It had been a long time since we visited Jade Villa so we were due for a return. There are just so many places to try in the 757 and only so many days on the calendar. It makes it too easy to forget about gems like JV. So we came for Sunday dinner when we decided we were too lazy to cook at home. Red menu only please as we sat down. You don't come here for egg rolls and General Tso's chicken or pork fried rice. You can get that regular menu stuff at any Chinese take out joint. Carbo-Kid went for the protein option and ordered the half Peking Duck. She loves the fluffy pancakes and hoisin sauce to go with the perfect duck. Best in the area IMO. (Now if I can only get her to put the sliced green onions on her pancake to up her veggie intake. No chance!). Wife and I did our usual deed and ordered about three times as much food as we could possibly eat so we could subsist on leftovers for the next few days. The waitress actually requested we move to a bigger table to accomodate all the dishes we ordered. That was chuckle worthy. Chinese broccoli with oyster sauce to keep our peristalsis moving in the right direction. Steaming hot but perfectly crunchy as it hit the table. Beef with "wonderful" sauce was...well...wonderful! Pork with sour cabbage has to be my new favorite. Its peppery and vinegary and will make your palate dance the Cat Daddy (but it won't look like Kate Upton doing it unfortunately. Google it to see what I mean). Follow this up with a heaping mound of Beef Chow Fun noodles that always taste good at the restaurant but always improve as leftovers. I do have to report, however, that I suffered an uncharacteristic wimp out during this visit. I was challenged recently by a friend to try the crispy fried duck tongues but it was just too much commitment. I might have tried an appetizer size order but they only offer a full entree. My wife stated outright that she would not even dream of putting something like that in her mouth and I would have to eat the whole plate by myself. I cracked and didn't order it.

Okay Dim Sum. The steamed dumplings were good but other food from the carts was cold. Pork Bun and fried wontons had good flavor but since ice cold were not very good. It wasn't very clean either and the restroom was clogged and dirty. Even the hot tea was not fresh, already made before bringing to table so it doesn't even seep table-side. Had to try since only option in the are but will not be back

Food is quite tasty. Wait staff is friendly. Service is fast. Ambience is casual. Cleanliness is C+. I enjoyed both occasions that we had dinner here. Great seafood chow mein but I would pass up on the steamed siomai. I took out 1 star because on both times we ate here, I ended up with a mild headache after dining. I am quite positive it was not from the company I was with, LoL. No alchoholic bevs at all, either. I usually get tingling headaches after having MSG laden meals. Portions were adequate; but, for the amount of food that we ordered, we ended up with four doggie boxes for the following day's lunch ......which we ate (yummy!) and again came the headache. Hmmmmm....

I looovvveee their dim sum. Altho I don't eat a lot of the things they have....the few times that I've been here I already have favorites. Their mini porkchops are DELICIOUS! Their pork buns remind me of this Filipino roll with meat called siopao but the breading of bun was soft. Their shrimp rolls are hit or miss. My brothers and sister in law love alot of things there. Esp their fish fried rice and their chinese broccoli. KEY IF YOU GO TO DIM SUM ON SUNDAYS....GO EARLY!! I think they open at 10 or 11 but you're safe if you go at least an hour early because there has always been a line when I've gone. The earlier the better chance at you getting a table because it does fill up fast. Its a good thing they have a back room!

Had a wonderful Dim Sum lunch with my parents and niece this past Saturday. I love coming here. They have Dim Sum on Saturdays and Sundays and it's always busy. We like to come right when it opens at 11am, as it fills up quick. The best description I can give you on Dim Sum is that is like tapas, Chinese style. They walk around with carts offering different types of food. There is so much variety. Some of my faves are the sticky rice bowl, fried taro, five spice fried spare rib, Wonton noodle soup Hong Kong style (this is on their regular menu), sweet tofu. Mmmmm I am making my self hungry now!! I just love all the variety! I have heard the bigger cities like DC, New York, etc. have better Dim Sum but I have yet to compare it to. So for now this will have to do, as it's the only one in the area.

Never again! First off the waiter is standing behind the counter picking his nose! WTF! Can you at least be discreet? My water cup was never filled. Food was too greasy but hey we are eating Chinese food so we expect some sort of grease but this is overkill. Who the heck charges for rice these days? Apparently they do bc the restaurants in Hong Kong charge for rice (that's what the waitress's excuse was). An extra bowl of rice isn't going to kill your profit margin Especially when we just ordered 50 dollars worth of food. This place was a big disappointment. Goodbye jade villa hello Judy!

Came here with some Yelpy friends and I gotta say this place is amazing! This is going to be a very short review because I still don't know half the things I ate, lol. I know the shrimp things (steamed and fried) were delicious. The bbq pork with the sweet sticky bun around it (Char siu baau?) ugh....just typing about it makes me want to go back and get more. Oh, yes. Please get there early because the line was ridiculously long for Sunday brunch. The price wasn't that bad either. I think next time I will definitely try some of the sweet tofu. I'll make sure I save room for it, lol.

The best and the only place for having authentic Chinese morning tea around Hampton Roads area! I would like to recommend the stick rice bowl, rice porridge (with fish or egg, both great), the fried Taro bun. The sea food looks great. That's on my list for the next visit!

A friend of mine drove down from Northern Virginia for a day trip and I decided this would be the perfect opportunity for a dim sum brunch. Jade Villa is deceptively larger than what you would think based on the store front. The restaurant is packed with tables and goes back with another smaller room to the right. We didn't have to wait long, though we were estimated 20 minutes and missed our first call when we came back 15 minutes later. Basically .. don't believe their estimates. Just sit in one of the chairs by the front. Don't get me wrong. They were packed. Like really packed. We went at 1 PM and they didn't slow down. The great thing about dim sum is that service is so fast they usually turn over tables pretty quick. I have been to many a dim sum restaurant and wasn't sure how this one would add up. I'm pleased to say they were really great. And fast. Oh .. and probably the most awesome and unexpected thing about them is that all the young people speak English. I've never been to a dim sum place where any of the workers spoke English with any fluency. The dim sum selection was amazing. And the carts kept on coming. I wish I could've eaten more (as I do every time I go to dim sum). Everything we had was so good. My only maybe tiny issue was the shrimp cake that was on everything. Though the eggplant was mighty tasty, I bet it would've been just as great without the shrimp cake. The sames goes for the fried tofu. The fried spare ribs were so flavorful and the char sui bao was super tasty. The sesame balls filled with a sweetened mung bean paste was the bomb as well as the egg custard. I am totally going back. Next time I'm gonna wait it out for the fried chow fun that came out after we were too full to think about any more food. *Happy Asian Dance* So excited to go back!

My brother brought the family here when we came for a visit. Quality, authentic Chinese is such a welcome respite from your dime-a-dozen General Tso's fare. In that regard, this place provided a well above average experience. I love me some salty fish. I don't find it all over the place, so we had to have multiple dishes with it here. So we got the salty fish with chicken and eggplant hot pot and the salty fish chicken fried rice. There's wasn't the best, but still satisfied a longstanding craving. The best salty fish tends to have a very subtle crisp in the tiny fishy pieces...not so much here. I cracked a pretty cheesy joke at the dinner table about how one of the dishes had the "Wonderfur Sauce". Jokes on me though, we actually ordered the Tender Beef with Wonderful Sauce and found it was indeed very aptly named. Probably the best dish. Added some dim sum to round out the meal. Ehh, I've had better but the ability to order some har gow and shumai at any time is indeed a positive.

A buddy of mine from Laos always talks about authentic Asian food. We both live in Newport News and he told me about the place and said "when I want food like back home I go there." That was all I needed to hear. Cool place, decent decor....not gonna win any beauty contest but those are typically the places with the best food. Make sure you look at the menus closely. They have one that is for "Americanized" Chinese food and a more "authentic" menu. All I can say is Super dumplings and the beef with wonderful sauce is appropriately named! I'll definitely make the trip again.

Authentic Chinese food, dim sum, and convenient hours (open until about 1:30am Thursday through the weekend). Rarely do I leave here with leftovers because the food reminds me of Brooklyn chinatown. You will pay more for food that is at least a notch above your local takeout place, but you pay for what you get. Dim sum is served on push carts only on Sat and Sun. One combination of dishes I usually get when coming here is the Chilean Sea Bass with either garlic fried peashoots or fermented beancurd fried water spinach with a bowl of rice. Other favorite dishes include the deep fried salt and pepper pork spare ribs, beef chow fun ("dry style"), and the salt and pepper calamari.

I'm going to give this place the benefit of a doubt because I have probably never had truly authentic Chinese food. We were given both the white and red menus. I bravely asked for the dim sum menu. He ordered fried dumplings/hot and sour soup and pork w/garlic sauce. I ordered dim sum. Har gow (shrimp dumpling), shrimp & chicken spring roll, leek dumpling, shiu mai (shrimp & pork dumpling) and steamed spare ribs w/black bean sauce.....too much food if I had eaten all of it. His soup was very good. After he finished the soup, 4 out of 5 of my dim sum choices were delivered. My entrees were very appealing but I didn't enjoy any of them. The leek dumplings were filled with grisly mystery meat (not mentioned on the menu), the spring rolls has something similar to cilantro in it (don't like cilantro, at all), the ribs didn't have anything remotely resembling black beans and they weren't 'ribs', they were knuckles. My husbands entree came out well after I was done playing with my food, this probably contributed to him not having much of an appetite anymore. We picked up dessert next door.......

My wife and some of our friends want so Chinese so we chose Jade Villa. I ordered the Wontoon Soup with noodle (Hong Kong) style and the beef with Chinese broccoli. The soup came in a huge bowl and was quite filling and they even add more broth. The serving of beef and broccoli was quite generous. Chinese broccoli is different that the Americanized broccoli it has similar stalks but has leaves on the end vice the florets. Both were very delicious and will define tilt going back soon. The servers we had were very polite and courteous. Overall a great experience.

Quick Tip: Get here early. The wait seemed to be incridibly long, but thankfully my party was already inside waiting for me. When you first walk in, the place seems a bit small. Have no fear, an additional room is there! The food was good although maybe I haven't been to a dim sum place in a while because the "bite-sized" deliciousness seemed a bit too tiny to me. The service was good and they came around rather frequently. Fave dish: The Egg Custard.

Best Chinese food in the 757 ! It's real Chinese food ! Very authentic ! And trust me I have had Chinese food all over the world . it not even in my top 50 Chinese restaurants but it's my top Chinese Resturant in the 757 hampton roads area ! Kinda sad but true .

My family and I came here at midnight after our trip from Busch Garden Christmas Town. We were glad this Chinese restaurant was still opened! Food was quite authentic and good. We got the KINGDOM PORK CHOP, BEEF WITH BROCOLLI, GINGER SOY CHICKEN, EGG FOO YOUNG. We were satisfied with everything, except the service. The waitress is the typical Hong Kong waitress, so some rudeness was expected. 4 Stars for the food! 0 for service.

Jade Villa food is awesome! I love it. It's my personal favorite place for Chinese/Cantonese food. However, their service was very poor on this visit. It was a little busy, but I don't think that's an excuse to not check on your customers for over 30 mins! My family and I were about to order another dish, but because they took too long. We decided to just leave, but even the time from when we were contemplating on getting the dish and when we got our checks and paid was over 30 mins! It's disappointing, but their food is delicious. Give it a try. Maybe you won't get unlucky like I did with this visit.

Favorite Dim Sum place, only that I've seen in the area so far. AND they have it available at all times... my Chinese friend who was visiting argued that it was too late for BREAKFAST, I kept telling him, ya so I eat pancakes for dinner, so what? They have amazing soup too...the corn/chicken/egg drop someone else mentioned is delicious. It may seem silly but being from NY I usually can tell how good a Chinese food place is by the clientele and the menu. Dining room is full and mainly Chinese and people of Asian decent, check! Vast menu w/ parts Intimidating to most Westerners, check! I especially like the buns and dumplings and I just wish - and this is a very small gripe - that many of the dim sum offerings are never available when I go... not just the seasonal ones, I mean pineapple bun? Maybe I just order odd things no one else wants but I've encountered this each time I go. And they also serve hot pot that i'd like to try, as well as tongue and chicken feet (not my thing) along with the usual standard fare you can find anywhere for the less adventurous.

Definitely as good as it gets in the area, but had to give it four stars since I have had better. Dim sum service is always popping - so I recommend getting there early to get seats. Besides getting dim sum, the dinner menu is always good. From time-to-time I go with my parents and we order from the Chef's special. We usually order the authentic Chinese food and it is always on point! I would definitely recommend trying the pan-fried noodle or rice noodle. I would even recommend throwing a party here. Definitely love the atmosphere here and the family-style sit-down meals.

Came early to avoid long lines. Door opened 5 minutes earlier bec the line outside was getting long. Service was efficient. The dimsums were not as salty although some of the portions were small. They had the basic dim sums the more popular ones but too few selections. Pork bun was dry inside. Har gao were tiny. Anyways, its worth the trip if you are craving for dim sum this is the place to get your fix.

I am visiting from San Diego and heard the hype about this place. So we went to check it out. After we got our seats, we asked the waiter if we could add 2more chairs to our table, which had more than ample room. The waiter made a huge ordeal about adding more chairs, with a full on sassed attitude the male waiter said "you should know exactly how many people before you seat. I can't add more chair" So I honestly cannot rate the food quality. But the costumer service we receives was atrocious.
