Restaurant is neat and clean. Food was Ok. I liked the Chicken Tikka masala.

I've never walked away disappointed. Well, that's not entirely true. Whenever I show up for brunch I'm hoping for the goat curry and sometimes... it's fish curry in its place. Fortunately it's pretty good fish curry :) I do appreciate that they have bhel puri as a starter - a rare find in Indian restaurants around here and great way to open up the palate. Overall I'd say the dishes are "very flavorful" but have yet to run into anything that packs *quite* enough of a punch from a spiciness perspective.

I love Indian food and I was pleased with the food at Tumeric. I stopped by for lunch based on previous Yelp reviews and was not disappointing. Because it was lunch, there was only the lunch buffet but the selection was very good. Besides the normal Tandoori and Butter chicken that you find at all other Indian restaurants, they had black lentils, goat, and eggplant dishes. The bread that came with the meal was hot and very fresh. The Tandoori chicken was some the best I have ever had. My only complaint was the service. The waiter that sat me didn't even offer to get me a drink and just deposited water at the table (had to stop another waiter and order chai). The other small issue was the tables they have for one or two people. I noticed that most single tables are crammed against partition walls leading to a slightly cramped dining experience. However, all in all not a bad lunch. Give it a try

Great food. Ordered the chicken tikka masala and naan. Not as spicy as I would have liked but the flavor was there. Restaurant has a strange layout but it was clean and well taken care of. Waiter was very informative and offered several good suggestions. Brother wanted to get the vegetable kofta but they had sold out earlier in the day. Ended up with the paneer tikka masala and greatly enjoyed it. The rice portions aren't very big but the food was delicious.
(4)Sumayra R.
Don't get the lamb. It was cold/overcooked/just plain weird. We got it as part of a combination platter and we left the lamb untouched. The pakoras were awful. The saag paneer was bland but it was pretty much the only edible thing that day. Everything else was very questionable. We left completely dissatisfied and out $40.

This cozy and unassuming Indian place has now become our favorite date night spot in Vienna. You really can't go wrong in choosing to dine at this restaurant; the service is friendly and attentive, the ambiance is calm and romantic and the food is sumptuous and warms your belly and heart! I always alternate between Chicken Tikka Masala and Butter Chicken and the boyfriend's go to is Lamb Vindaloo. The curries are always fresh and satisfying. I would highly recommend this neighborhood gem!

Great variety of Punjab, Kashmir, Dehli and other Indian favorites, Turmeric is an unremarkable NoVa strip-mall restaurant with solid food. Reasonably priced, dimly lit and suitable for adult conversation, we enjoyed a weekday dinner here. Full bar, right. But I wasn't exactly delighted with my so-called premium gin martini bcos it was kinda weak, at $7.50 not expensive. Maybe a case of you-get-what-you-pay-for. Or maybe just shaken with too much ice. A short pour too, definitely didn't attempt to fill the glass. Menu choices include many grilled meats, curries and thalis. I love to sample so ordered a standard thali which came with a zillion little dishes: eggplant (baingan bartha), spinach (saag paneer), dal, lamb in red curry sauce, raita, 5 leaves of lettuce, rice, pickles and even a bit of sweet rice pudding. The pudding was a new one on me. Spinach was not creamy saucy but instead fresh and light, an interesting variation. And the puri in the middle was almost the size of my head! Not kidding go check out the picture. Very fairly priced at $16. But another miss was the heat. We ordered extra spicy. My learned colleague asked to be set on fire. The man promised Indian spice levels! Either the kitchen was in a bad mood or they read the ticket upside down, IDK, but what arrived was barely seasoned. All veg dishes mild-mild, the lamb had a vague sense of heat, definitely did not meet expectations. Vegetarian rating: typical of Indian places, 5 stars for the many standard choices including veg samosa, dal, eggplant, veggie korma, paneer kadai, saag paneer and saag chana, mixed veg biriani, etc etc. Service was friendly but slow, on a quiet evening with most tables empty the food took a while to come out, also we had to flag the man down for water, etc. Maybe it's better at lunch? Our meal was AOK but sure as fire didn't live up to the many exuberant 5-star ratings here on yelp.

Firstly, I have to say that it was my first time having Indian food, so I haven't had any idea how Indian curry and food would taste like. Being curiosity and as a lamp curry lover, I had lamp curry, roasted chicken, garlic flavor breads, and some cookies with green sauce which restaurant invited (ps. I don't know what is it called, ). The overall taste is okay, or maybe I am used to Japanese or South East Asian type of curry, I don't recommend for those people who think that the taste will be similar to the curry they used to have. But for those who want to have an exotic meal, you must try! By the way, their rice is biryani really different from Taiwan or even South East Asia one I like to return turmeric . :)
(5)Amber S.
Excellent food! Wonderful, friendly & attentive service. The lunch buffet was well priced at $11. We will definitely be returning.
(5)Annamaria K.
- Ambiance nice, slightly romantic - Food quality is above average (juice, perfectly grilled salmon and chicken, good naan, and perfectly balanced mango lassi). The butter chicken was great too. However, I would hold on ordering dessert. The rice pudding

The food here leaves a lot to be desired. I am not going back again.
(2)Joanne B.
Great lunch buffet and a great value too at under $10 a person. I really like the decor of this place as it is contemporary with classy touches of modern Indian art. I really liked the food here and they had great variety. Unfortunately, I don't know the names of all the delicious stuff I had but it was really good. My favorites include the "spinachy-corn" dish, the butter chicken and the fish dish. The complementary bread (is it naan?) was delicious but deadly as I nearly inhaled the entire basket. The desserts was good too. There was a cardamom beet dish and a rice noodle sweet soup concoction which different but good too. Only had a little bit of each but was a nice finish to a meal! Will return again! Yum!
(5)Susie D.
The food was quite savory and well prepared. We had chicken vindaloo, chicken tikka masala and lamb saag. We also started the meal with vegetable samosas. They were light and perfectly prepared. We will definitely return for another meal
(4)Marsha C.
I was craving Indian food and decided to try Turmeric. I thought it was a carry out but turned out to be so much more. The restaurant is lovely and the staff was extremely friendly. I had chicken tikka and baingan bharta and it was delicious!!!! So glad I went there and hope to return soon!!!
(4)Sean T.
Food is authentic and tastes good. Naan is a highlight: it's fluffy and buttery. Service is the biggest issue -- one time we didn't get one of our naans until we asked a waiter about it. Food sometimes comes out lukewarm. Doesn't seem to be a system of which waiter handles which tables -- you see various people throughout your meal. Interior has bad acoustics -- sound echoes and you can easily hear other patrons' conversations, even if they're at the opposite end of the dining area.
(4)Dale H.
More like 3.5 stars. Overall good but seem like some of the food was not as fresh. Orange chicken was very good. We went there for buffet. There are fewer options compared to other places such as Jaipur. Ambiance is pretty good.
(3)Ahmed K.
Good food, decent service and likely the better option for Indian food locally. I give this place a thumbs up!
(4)Philip L.
Stopped in on a Sunday evening - it is a nice little place, comfortable. The service was engaging and effective. The food was not fancy but very solid and well prepared. We don't have huge experience with Indian food but I'd put it on par with anything we tried at Rasika and step above Jaipur. Again, it was a Sunday evening, it may be different with a rush. had the goat curry, chickpeas, okra, and egglant - all very nice and flavorful. The naan was naan - all in all, a good experience, not too pricey, and convenient.
(4)Food Love R.
Great local Indian food restaurant. The only thing they do not have is Roti if you like to have your food with it. Other than that, food is great as well as the service. This Indian lady told me that their lentil soup is as close as it gets to back home while I was waiting my take order to be ready. They must be good from the authentic point of view as well. Great chicken tikka masala as well as chicken vindaloo. Also good basmati rice.

I'm seriously hating myself for being a Vienna resident for over 10 years but only to have discovered this place recently. I've wanted to try this place for sometime, but the thought of having to sit through Maple Ave traffic to get here has always discouraged me from making this trip. So where better else to go spontaneously while driving through Maple Ave? Turmeric! What a wise choice! Good quality food and excellent service at a very reasonable price of $12/pp on weekends. Not to mention the place is clean and has really nice decors. At $9.99 weekday buffet, this may become my goto spot for lunch when I work from home now on .
(4)Tapan M.
Good ambience. Lot of delay in serving. Blant food. But it's a good Indian restaurant for non-Indian.
(4)Ashley I.
This place gets busy at dinner hour! The boyfriend and I were seated fairly quickly, and greeted with a full bar menu (wasn't expecting that!) He ordered the vindaloo and I ordered the chicken tikka misala, he liked his dish, and I really enjoyed mine. The garlic naan was good too. I will come back here for my next Indian food craving.

This has become one of our favorite Indian restaurants. Service is gracious and prompt. The dining room is tastefully and subtly decorated. The samosas were as good as any we've tried - not overly battered, not too deeply fried - a good blend of vegetable, potato, and fried tastes. My wife had the vegetable kofta (croquttes). Very nicely flavored. I had the thali with lamb curry. It comes with bread, rice, dal, spinach, vegetables, raita, and a light dessert - I good way to try a variety of dishes. Also, if you're heading to Wolf Trap it's about 5 minutes straight down Beulah.

Went today for lunch with a friend from work. Got there about 1:30 - the sign outside the plaza does not list Turmeric so it's a little tricky to find. Parking in front is a bit limited, especially on a Saturday, but there is a lot of parking around the corner. After taking a look at the buffet, since we saw a lot of options, we went for that. It's a little more expensive on the weekends. Someone mentioned it was 9.99 during the week and I think this was more like $12. We both enjoyed what I think was the bhel puri - reminded me of pakora, but while I don't remember the name, it definitely was not pakora. It was delicious and crispy. It was especially good with the chutney at the end of the buffet. My friend tried a carrot dish that I can't find listed on their menu. It was at the end with the chutneys and pudding. It was really good - tasted a little sweet. I had the rice and butter chicken. It was okay. I also tried some gobi aloo (cauliflower and potatoes) - also okay. The naan was a little sad. I had high hopes, because they bring the naan right to your table, whereas with other buffets it is right on the line which means sometimes it's fresh and hot, other times you find one lonely piece. Our naan did not seem fresh and hot. I had one piece and ignored the rest. I was disappointed that there was only one dessert option - a rice pudding. My favorite dessert is gulab jamun, honey soaked milk dumplings. It's on their menu, but apparently not part of the buffet. So: three stars for okay food, not a ton of options and the water they served was warm. The water part was really odd because when they came to the table we were asked if we wanted ICE water. Not a cube was to be found in my glass. Would I recommend this place to anyone? No. There are better Indian places around or if you are in the area and looking to do something different try the crepes place next door.

I've been to this place earlier for a la carte and buffet and it's been decent, but today was extremely disappointing. The food was cold - cold tandoori chicken is a real put off. Veggie cutlets were decent. Pepper chicken and paneer - very average. The butter chicken was decent - the only saving grace along with the the very soft and warm naans which were the hero. The appam wasn't fluffy and soft on the inside like they're supposed to be, the veggie stew was utterly bland. Coffee mousse finished by the time we got to it, mango kheer and seviyan kheer were decent. $15 for a buffet so average is quite unacceptable. Also, the service was extremely slow. Not going back.

I went once when it was called Aditi. And once recently. Nothing has changed. Food was okay but service bad. The waiters smile at every question without understanding. They understand neither English nor Hindi. I am critical of Indian food. So please read other reviews.
(1)Sarah W.
I would love to try the lunch buffet. The food and atmosphere was nice. The service was a bit slow and they tried to serve our food to the wrong table, but it was overall an enjoyable experience. My favorite dish to try at any new Indian Restaurant is Butter Chicken. The dish here was good, not as creamy and rich as I generally like but the sauce was very well done.

THIS REVIEW COVERS DINNER ONLY, NOT THE LUNCH BUFFET: Well, I have truly tried a wide range of all the Indian and Middle Eastern restaurants in Fairfax and Loudoun counties. Turmeric offers some good, nothing all that bad, but certainly has a few areas for improvement. At first glance, the atmosphere is very pleasing. The decor here, in the renovated Aditi, is simply beautiful. Very earthy. Amazing, I love it (except for the strange golden chicken statues and a few other props that look straight out of a bad Egyptian mummy movie). This, however, is NOT a good place to bring a large (or even a small group). There are maybe three areas that could seat four or five people, but most of the tables are for two. That being said, the ambiance is calming and intimate. The service is so-so. The food is REALLY slow coming out. I was starting to get annoyed with how long it was taking, but it came out before I was in full hunger rage mode. The refills came pretty regularly, but they asked me every five seconds if I wanted a refill. You know what? If the glass empty and I still have a significant amount of food left on the table --JUST REFILL IT. The menu is robust and diverse. There really is a lot to choose from, and all my favorite dishes and then some are there. The chicken vindaloo is perfectly spicy, and the kabobs are so well-seasoned but a little dry and could use tad more crisp to the outside with a little more juicy and tender on the inside (the pieces were just a little tough). One thing I didn't like are that the portions are pretty small for the price. Definitely find much more value at places such as Jaipur, Masala Wok, Bollywood Bistro, Minerva, etc. I think the food overall does taste maybe a little better at Turmeric. But enough to justify that I only got a few little pieces of meat and a couple potato hunks in my dish? Guess that's up for you to decide. Also, they give you a tiny little circular dish of rice that is clearly not enough to absorb all the sauce and act as a bed for your main dish. They'll bring you more for free, but it's sort of like the refill thing... kind of annoying, and you'll need at least two refills to finish your meal. The dishes are well-presented and garnished nicely, but c'mon, it's Indian food, not French cuisine. Too much focus on pretty, not enough on value. I originally wanted to order the dinner plate because not many of the main dishes came with a good vegetable option or side. But turns out you don't get to pick your own curry if you do that, you just have to go with the chef's choice (which was eggplant, ew). So that's why I went with the chicken vindaloo as my curry dish meal (but didn't count as a dinner plate, weird), which only comes with rice and no veggie sides. That is slightly disappointing. Most places also give you naan with your meal, but Turmeric does not. Bread (and wow, do they have a wide selection of it!) is an extra side order. So I did get some of the roti, but it was cold, flat and not that great. The fast food chain Roti has better roti. Overall, I would go back here if in the area, but I don't think I'd make a special trip. Jaipur is probably still my Fairfax-area Indian place of choice.

I stopped going to Turmeric as often as I used to; used to almost camp there especially when they have the Fish curry when it used to be called Aditi. Owner decided to bring an investor, recipes changed, taste changed, quality changed and my soda stopped to taste the same; I stopped going there but from time to time I go to reminisce over the old days when the food was real indian and real tasty. Having said that, I need to visit soon, maybe the good old indian is back and the taste is back.
(3)Vishal S.
There has got to be some issues in this location coz there is a new Indian restaurant here almost every year! But all offering a variation of the same thing - sounds like a forever "going out of business" rug dealer :) The decor though has improved but the buffet is the same old quality - have seen better! One thing about Indian buffets is that they want to add a whole bunch of dishes to the spread to make it attractive but they fail to deliver on the ONLY key elements that makes folks coming back - quality! The food quality and taste for most dishes is sub-par at best. Of the few times that I have been here, on the request of others, I have experienced a few good dishes but the majority of the dishes are the same sub-par quality. Even the desserts miss by a mile! So another letdown for me as far as Indian buffets go in the DMV area outside the city :(
(2)Erica W.
Food was excellent. Service was excellent. SUPER CLEAN and nicely decorated restaurant... I went for a weekday buffet for $9.99. Seriously, I never do buffets(though "when in Vegas"); but, when I saw the food, I was definitely in... Ridiculously good lunch deal for the money and high quality of food and service. I am the worst for not writing down what the dishes were, but let's just say that there was a lot to choose from and that they were all delicious. And they bring warm naan to your table!
(4)Katie L.
I have been yearning for a nice Indian restaurant to dine at in Vienna for the longest time. Their bread basket, chicken makhani (butter chicken), and tandoori platter were all culinary delights. Absolutely delicious! I went during their soft opening, and was so impressed with the ambiance and vibe of the restaurant. I look forward to dining here a lot, and I welcome them to the neighborhood with open arms.
(4)Jacob F.
We eat here often and their food is really good. My wife thinks they have the best butter chicken curry out of any other Indian restaurant in Vienna/McLean. I'm giving them a point off because every time we go, it takes a month to get our check and then a year to get out of the parking lot. Still, really good food...
(4)Milind S.
Ordered carry out food from Turmeric. Place is pretty modern/ contemporary on the inside, dim lighting, full service bar. They have buffet for lunch so I'll give that a try pretty soon. Chilly paneer I ordered was made with a red sauce and was too watery which I didn't like. It's usually made out a lot dry red paste which sticks to the panner with some green chillies and cilantro. the Naan sizes were BIG. I also ordered Okra in main course which was also not made well. had way too many onions in it and also had a bit of a sauce. Okra is NEVER made that way, has to be pan fried and a bit crispy, however this one was soggy due to too much juices from the tomato.
(3)Sammy B.
The best Indian food in the area! Excellent blend of spices without being "hot". The puri is very good and try the chicken/ginger/coconut soup. The service could be a little better, but the wait was well worth it!
(5)Ani J.
This restaurant was previously called 'Aditi Bistro'. Recently, they renovated and changed the name to 'Turmeric'. My review for this place is solely based on my experience with the Buffet. Turnoffs: 1) The naan (Indian bread) is always included in the buffet. I have never been asked how many naans to bring out. A part of the buffet experience is to have an abundance of bread, and eat more than you need to. The waiters here always ask how many. I mean we are a group of 5-6 people - just get bread for everyone. They always bring one naan at a time. Why ask? By the time the bread comes out, the food is cold. 2) Speaking of cold food, the only thing served hot at this restaurant is the plate. I had the same experience last time as well. The pakodas, papad, rasam (appetizers) were all cold. Why serve buffet if the food is going to be cold? Unacceptable. 3) Considering this restaurant has 4 1/2 star rating by 9 reviewers, I assume none of them were vegetarians. The vegetarian options are abysmal. Non-vegetarian entrees include chicken tikka masala, lamb curry etc. On the contrary, vegetarians get cabbage, spinach, and some sweet vegetables. Why is there no curry or daal for vegetarians? If I want to eat cabbage, I will eat at home. I go to restaurants to eat the delicacies like malai kofta, daal makhani, navratan korma. Only having dry vegetables for buffet shows that not much effort was put in for vegetarian diners. 4) Since there weren't any appetizing vegetarian entrees, we ordered the Daal Makhani (black lentils). After 20 minutes, they brought out Daal Tadka (yellow daal). I remember the waiter yelling out Daal Makhahi to someone in the kitchen, then where was the mix-up? The waiter was very nice and asked us to wait for 10 more minutes. However, the Daal Makhani was not what we expected. I guess they rushed into making it, and lacked salt and spices that is the signature of Daal Makhani. Piece of advice - avoid the buffet and try this place for dinner. I have tried the buffet twice, and after the experience today, was tempted to write this review. The waiters are friendly and this review is not targeted towards them. This is for the management to ensure that diners like me who have been eating here for years keep coming back. We did inform the waiters and manager on duty about our experience and gave them suggestions for improvement. As of now, I am going to avoid this place for lunch buffets. I was hoping to be dozing off at work after a sumptuous buffet. However, here I am writing this review while eating a snack.

My husband and I recently tried this restaurant and had a wonderful dinner. The food was great. I had the Tandoori chicken. My husband some platter that had several items. The naan was great.
(5)Jessica K.
I think Turmeric has decent food. The meats and vegetables are fresh and high quality. It's not quite "authentic" but still pretty tasty. But the price you pay for very small portions of basic Indian food is ridiculous in my opinion. I have eaten more delicious and authentic Indian food for much less and larger portions.
(2)Allyson F.
Amazing food! We ordered 2 dishes (one platter and an entree) and both were perfected. I haven't had good Indian food since (believe it or not) I had lived in Japan. They have a nice selection in all menu categories but it's not overwhelming. Either way you'll get exactly what you are looking for, whether you prefer spicy or mild, vegetarian or meat, cold or hot. Staff is very friendly and courteous as well. Ambiance is relaxing, visually appealing and clean. They also make their own bread here too which is awesome, it comes out fresh, soft and warm. Reasonable prices to boot. I would definitely recommend it to anyone nearby or those who are looking to try something new.
(5)Nwunye O.
I was UNDERWHELMED with my Turmeric experience. I ordered the following items to-go: vegetable samosas and chicken tikki masala. The samosas were small and soggy; they didn't have that crispy outer shell. But they were seasoned ok. The chicken tikki masala was flavorless, no seasoning, no spices. But it was creamy. The best part of my meal was the rice - fluffy and seasoned well. I paid $18 and some change... not worth the price, I have definitely had better. Maybe sitting down for the buffet will change my mind about Turmeric.... I'm willing to give them one more shot. Though I didn't dine-in, here's my take on the restaurant interior - it seemed impersonal. It's decorated beautifully, for sure, but it lacked the comforting, welcoming feel I have come to expect from Indian cuisine establishments. Sounds echoed uncomfortably through the restaurant; while waiting for my order to arrive, I could discern the topic of most conversations in the room, and I wasn't particularly eavesdropping. So yeah, dont like the restaurant feel...
(2)Harish K.
The 2 stars are purely for ambiance. The quantity they serve is very very very very less. Totally disappointed. The taste is not that great. I am an Indian and know how Indian food tastes. Like the authentic Italian food and Chinese cuisine food have taken different taste in USA like wise this restaurant has a modified Indian taste. totally bland and spice and taste less. Not to mention the attitude of the staff. We asked them how much time it will take to serve the order and we got the reply "IT WILL TAKE TIME". I mean really!!!! this is how u answer to a customer. What is meant by it will take time? I clearly don't understand how many minutes or hours that means. It was not good at all...
(2)F P.
Outstanding! We went there for dinner tonight, ordered Chicken Tikka and Chicken Tikka Masala. Both dishes tastes fantastic, the chicken was possibly the most tender I have ever had and the spice level was just right. We'll be going back to try other dishes, but so far, among the best Indian restaurants I have been to.
(5)Nikki T.
Slightly above average Indian food, but service was a huge buzzkill. Our group dealt with multiple waiters who could barely understand our simple orders. Took an hour and a half to get our checks, which were confused multiple times. Food wasn't good enough to justify going again, unfortunately.
(2)T S.
The more I go to this place the better it seems to get. Went back here yesterday and really had a great time. The manager is friendly and takes interest in the food he is serving at the restaurant. We had a chance to talk about the various oils used in food preparation and different regional dishes. The food as always is amazing. We had the Paneer tikka masala and the veg kofta. Delicious!! The food is extremely flavorful and doesn't leave you clutching your stomach in agony as some other indian restaurants do. The portion size might seem small at first but they are always just the right amount to make a satisfying meal. Lastly, I would really hope quality restaurants such as turmeric would lead the way in incorporating organic options or at the very least reducing the GMO in the food.
(5)Kelsey T.
The service was wonderful. I haven't been to another Indian restaurant where the service was as on point and just all around respectful and available whenever we needed something. I met a friend there on a Wednesday evening. They're weren't that many people there but I liked the ambiance so we could chat and catch up. They had a great variety of drink specials and a nice wine list so we indulged a little. They server was very helpful with suggestions of what we should get to eat. I got the Korma Chicken and my friend got the Masala Chicken. While what we chose was good the flavors themselves were a little bland and just not enough spice. You also had to watch for rough pieces in the "chunks of chicken" which kind of stopped me from wanting to pick through it. I did really enjoy the garlic naan though. I would definitely go back because of their great service and also to try their lunch buffet because I've heard that's where it's at!

Indian Lunch Buffet Review: Look out Bombay Tandoor! Decent buffet, quick service, more options and more spices than Bombay Tandoor. The buffet itself is a lot smaller in size though. Some of the main course dishes like the butter chicken and tandoori ran out and they never seemed to fill it back up while I was there. The cuts of tandoori were kind of interesting, harder to eat than I am use to, perhaps to stop me from eating so many!!! $10.75 for a lighting fast buffet run (I needed to eat quickly). After eating a piece of naan (okay, kind of plain and cheap), the waiter brought out piping hot naan right to my basket! Thank you! Who could say no to that? So I scarfed down another piece of plain/light/cheap naan and decided to just stay on the elliptical until I burned 800 calories. I'll definitely be returning because it was so easy and convenient. No 5 stars because I've had better Indian food. Recommended.
(4)Chris A.
The food our group had was great. The chicken was cooked well, juicy, but had a bit of gristle and boneless had a few small bones, but other wise, spiced well. Only fault was the service was poor. Very slow. Food was spread out coming to the table, bread seemed almost forgotten, and the time between starters and main course was pretty long. If the service had been better I'd be willing to give it a higher review, but it was only okay.

Love this place! It's definitely one of our go-to restaurants. Mostly we do takeout, but we've eaten in the restaurant a few times, too. Takeout: Delicious and fast! I wish they didn't use Styrofoam, though. The one time I had to wait for my food (it was only about 10 minutes), they offered us a seat at the bar and poured some ice water. Dine In: Great service and usually not very crowded. The drink options could be better, but they're pretty standard in general. The food is outstanding. My favorite dish is the vegetable croquettes. The tomato sauce they come with is to die for. The butter chicken also is good. My boyfriend loves the lamb korma. We've tried the samosas several times and they are solid -- not overly fried. The breads also are nice. Last night we had the garlic naan and the paratha aloo. The garlic naan is always nice and garlicky. Great place -- I highly recommend it!

Went there a couple of times in the past month; once for the lunch buffet, and once for dinner. Except for the truly excellent naan, the food is average at best. I evaluate restaurants by 1) how well they do the classics, and 2) how interesting and creative they are with new dishes. On either score, Turmeric is OK, but nothing special.

I LOVE THIS PLACE. My boyfriend got the tandoori platter and I ordered the chicken masala. We ordered garlic naan on the side and everything was so delicious! Naan was fluffy, the tandoori platter was very flavorful and on the leaner side. I could not stop dipping the garlic naan in the masala. Waiter was nice, friendly, and attentive. I can't wait to go back!

good food and service i really enjoyed thanks, I"ll b back

Food is ok, though is pricey for the amount you get. $2.99 for one piece of naan? Silly. Yelp says they deliver but when I called they said they do not.

I was really looking forward to trying out this place today. My stomach feels off from the very little that I did eat there. I returned most of it, even my buffet plate. Yes I did! The food was flavorless and cold. I echo user "Ani J"s sentiments with the naan as well. We ordered dal makhani but got dal tadka. And had to ask for them to bring rice with it because they didnt do it themselves. The servers were friendly, sure, but kind of lazy. They took their time bringing things out and we had to remind them a few times to get salt, water, pepper and naan please. When I talked to the manager (or whoever was in charge at that time), he said it must be a fluke because other customers are eating here and haven't complained. He basically implied that others are fine and eating their food. Why are you complaining. Definitely not the response I was expecting. About the wrong dal order, the manager said they were not supposed to serve alacarte during buffet time so the fact that they brought the wrong order and it took a while was because of the confusion our order caused in the kitchen. Seriously? Even 1 star is too much for this place - why? Because I had to ask 2 times for them to get water for.

Great food and outstanding service (Rajeen is the best waiter ever!). I highly recommend this place!

This was my first time here. I was not a big fan of Indian food but was pleasantly surprised at Tumeric. We started with the samosas then ordered the Fish Mailee (from Kerala region) and lamb vindaloo for entrees. All the food we ordered were delicious. The mint and tamarind churney were the best I ever had. Now I can say I enjoy Indian food when done right!

Wonderful bhel-puri, and a filling Maharaja platter! Interior is a lot better now...loved the kebabs...

Fantastic lunch buffet. So fresh and flavorful. Very nice, romantic ambiance. Came in a group of 6. We all loved it! Keep up the good food and ambiance

This was my first time trying Indian food and Turmeric made a believer out of me. The staff was so helpful with recommendations from the Sula wine, to appetizers, to entrees that I felt completely at ease ordering. They were also very attentive in making sure my experience was one to remember. The Vegetable Samosa appetizers were wonderful. The pastry was piping hot and filling left you wanting another bite. The Chilli Chicken Entrée was by far my favorite. The sauce was the perfect harmony of sweet and spicy and I would honestly like to bottle it and put it on anything. The flavor was through the roof and it will now be my go to dish every time I go back to Turmeric. I have no doubt that this will become a go to spot in Vienna and feel privileged to have experienced their cuisine during their opening month. I look forward to many more memorable meals at Turmeric.

This has become one of my favorite Indian spots in the area, and it's been open for barely a month. Great service, our waiter was extremely nice. They have a good amount of menu items from various regions of Indian not limited to North Indian food like everything else you're used to seeing. We had tons of questions about the menu and he was able to make some great recommendations for us. Since this was my first experience at Turmeric, I had to order a couple traditional/popular items. Butter Chicken Makhani, naan (GARLIC naan), Tandoori wings, and a couple sides of saag (spinach) and chole (chick peas). All freaking amazing. I traveled to North India and actually fell in love with Indo-Chinese food, which is popular in the Nepal area, and they actually had a couple dishes from that region! I had some Chili Paneer, and Chili Chicken. Destroyed them both. Ambience is intimate, but not stuffy at all. You can dine casually, but still feel like you're at a nicer restaurant, although tuckered away in Vienna. As far as the food goes; traditional items are very good, but once you decide to venture out and try some of their dishes from other regions of India, that's where Turmeric really shines. Definitely check it out!

I'm a big fan. For me Indian is one of the more reliable ethnic cuisines, and the food here is very run of the mill Indian -- which means it's extremely satisfying. The decor is refreshingly contemporary and tasteful compared to the standard white-tablecloth-covered-in-orange-stains affair. Sitar music is preserved, thankfully, as well as the intensely friendly and gracious service. The naan came with a fine glaze of butter and the wine was $6 a glass -- what more do you want??

This is our go-to spot to get our Indian fix. The lunch buffet is a bargain on weekdays (under $10 per person). Pretty good variety and quality for a buffet. It's no Rasika, but it is affordable and more convenient for us than our other favorite Indian buffet, Bollywood Bistro.

We went here while visiting our cousin in VA. The ambiance is pretty good with the bar inside. We had ordered "imili baigan" , "lamb chops" and "varuval fish", all were were really good with right amount of spices and flavor. I like the fusion concept of "imili baigan". The "maharaja platter" and the bread basket for our main course was awesome. The platter having combination of fish, lamb and chicken all cooked to perfection. The service was really outstanding.. the guy who served us helped us with our orders as well as suggested couple of really good cocktails.. Thoroughly enjoyed the restaurant and the here..
(5)Julie S.
Their lunch buffet is delicious; a great mix of dishes and all of them were delicious! And the decor shows how much thought was put into the place; there are a lot of beautiful touches here and there which make the entire experience delightful. I highly recommend this place!

A great new addition to the restaurants serving Indian cuisine in the Fairfax, VA area. Excellent food! Being vegetarian we had limited choices but the chef was flexible and made the Vindaloo with mixed Veges in place of Chicken and it was superb! Paneer was soft and succulent. Nice decor, exceptional service in terms of smiling efficiency and speed. Our table maitr'd was Sanjay from Kerala and he was amazing on all counts. We are definitely gonna take up his invitation for a Sunday buffet which has Appam / stew and more vegetarian fare than on Saturdays. One caveat though, it is pricey! A full veg dinner for two with a drink set us back by $65 (including 20% tip) but the entire experience was well worth the price. Only hope they keep up the good work and the Chef, the bane of this industry who can make or break any restaurant!!!
(4)Christine H.
What a really great experience. Came in with no expectations...decor was very nice, had a bistro vibe...asked for a couple suggestions from the servers. my Mom and I decided to try to the chicken biryani and maharaja platter; which gave us a nice mix to try . We really enjoyed everything..Flavors were great, service was great...will definitely be back!

Worst possible service ever. I will NEVER go back to this restaurant again. It is customary for all restaurants to offer a complimentary beverage (water, diet coke, tea, etc) to customers who are waiting around for their order to be ready, especially when it isn't on time. The SOB at the bar had the audacity to charge me $3.00 for a half glass of Coca-Cola while I was waiting around for my order to be ready. DISGUSTING service. I have many friends in the restaurant business who would fire that jerk for what he did.
(1)Michael S.
Bottom line. Loved it! Started with the vegetable samosa. It was wonderful. I had the spiced okra and was impressed! Will definitely be back. The only reason it got 4 stars and not 5 is that the drinks were so-so. I had the curry leaf martini and it was way too sweet for me.
(4)Heather H.
I went here for the buffet lunch and was really pleased. A great value for $11 a person. I've only been to the buffet once so I'd be curious to see if the options change. The tikka masala was my favorite. Great flavor! I also really liked the tofu broccoli and the naan was nice and hot out of the oven. Great lunch option.

I have a new favorite Indian restaurant. This place was great. The staff was very attentive without being overbearing, the food was fantastic-- even the rice was flavorful all on its own-- and the prices were better than most of the Indian places I've been to recently. The decor was much nicer than a lot of other Indian restaurants, too-- a chic sort of modern-traditional blend. And, best of all, the menu has a greater range than just the old standby chicken tikka and vindaloo. A number of the sauces I'm used to seeing offered only with one type of meat were instead made with your choice between several. They also offer thalis, though we didn't get to try them this trip. We'll definitely be back, though!

Food is tasty and not flavored with sour cream, etc. Portions are small. Service is good except they are not good about refilling rotis unless asked several times. Buffet is limited for the price but they have done a great job with getting close to true Indian flavors.
(3)Michele G.
I've been here twice for the lunch buffet and it's now my favorite lunch place (sorry Cenan's). The buffet is $10 but the manager said at night they offer a regular dinner menu. My favorite things are the butter chicken and bread budding for dessert...but they change their items on the buffet because last time they didn't have the bread budding but a cranberry jello thing which I didn't love.
(4)Gazal M.
Wonderful modern take on Indian food. Will go back when I get a chance to go to Vienna.
(4)Ryan S.
Absolutely terrible service. Nobody came by the table for 25 minutes when we sat down. It took 50 minutes to get our check. There was 4 tables occupied, how is this even possible? Dinner took almost 3 HOURS! Food was OK but we'll never return.
(1)Dev K.
We have been coming to this restaurant since it opened. I give them a four star for their dinner menu, among the very best Washington metro area has to offer. A few restaurants in India like Bukhara of Maurya Sheraton, New Delhi get 5 stars in my book. However the lunch buffet is unimpressive and we would give it just 2 stars.
(4)Stephen C.
Been in the US for more than 2 years now and this is the best Indian food that I've had so far. We tried the chicken tikka, lamb korma, and pan fried snapper and they were all very tasty.
(5)Colin J.
Buffet during lunch was excellent - a bread basket provided along with all the trappings of the buffet, including a very delicious chili chicken. Dinner can be a bit too pricey in my opinion, but the closest other options are Cafe Taj in McLean and Bombay Bistro in Fairfax, so for Vienna this is fair. The only major drawback is the loud level of volume during dinner or lunch if it is crowded inside so be warned you may need to speak up to hear your partner or family.
(4)Cristina B.
hands down the BEST indian food I've had in this area. Everything is flavorful.
(5)Bryan P.
To be clear, this isn't our favorite Indian food in NoVa, but it is solid. Bonus points for indicating the region of each menu item.
(3)Annie Z.
I was not at all pleased with the take-out I ordered from this restaurant. The rice was alright and the naan was decent (I think it would be pretty hard to mess up naan, though) but the main course I ordered, the 'Gobi Aloo', was bland and completely lacking flavor, not to mention an incredibly tiny portion. When I have ordered this dish at other Indian restaurants, it is usually spicy and quite flavorful. Not the case at Turmeric. In addition to the lackluster taste of the main dish, the Raita I had ordered managed to spill out of its Styrofoam container on the drive home and get all over the inside of the bag, which was quite disappointing. Though, the amount that remained in the container was runny and also lacking flavor aside from the bits of cucumber that I could taste. Overall, a very disappointing experience and my craving for Indian food was not in the least satisfied. Needless to say, I will not be giving business to this establishment again.

We had dinner there Friday on the recommendation of a friend. I had the Tandoori sampler, our daughter a lamb curry and my wife a vegetarian dish. Food was excellent. Service outstanding and very warm and professional. Decor and ambiance are subtle and comfortable. This is not your average restaurant by any means. Portions are generous and price is very reasonable. I can recommend Turmeric without hesitation. Definitely worth a visit (and repeat visits) if you are a fan of Indian cuisine or just want to add variety and a little adventure to dining out. Definitely a welcome addition to our community!

I was with a group of 10 that dined here. Some of us like spicy food and some don't, but the menu is large enough to satisfy everybody. The waiter was very good at explaining dishes. Portions are large enough to satisfy but not so huge you're overwhelmed. Appetizer portions are large and easily shared. If you're not sure what you want, get one of the combo plates -- which is what I did, so I could sample several items. None of us went away hungry or dissatisfied.

I live in the area and I shop at Giant's and the Indian store next to this restaurant. Needless to say, I am Indian. But, I have never tried this restaurant because I didn't want to risk it. Yesterday, my friend and I decided to go there as he said once, "why haven't we eaten here before?" So, we went there. We ordered the Regular thali. It was a huge disappointment. The poori they gave was nice, but the other assortments that come with the Thali were too less in quantity. It was like two spoonfuls of each. It also came with the option of either chicken curry or lamb curry. It had two pieces. It was 18$ with taxes and with tip 21$. I felt cheated. I am never going there again.

My chicken tikka masala was really sweet even though I asked the waiter and he assured me it wasn't. I took it home and tried to add cayenne to cover up the sweetness. When that didn't work, I threw it out and will never go there again. Service was friendly but extremely slow.

Solid Indian choice in Vienna. Ambience iffy, but a great option for take-out. I don't think we've had an amazing dish or anything bad, just steady B+ which is hard to argue with.
(4)Ying M.
I come here often and always loved what I ordered. The staff is very friendly and makes great recommendations. This place uses the right amount of spices in their dishes and gives me a home cooked meal feeling. You can taste the freshness of ingredients and the perfect harmony of the spices. I love coming there.
(5)Russel D.
I've had my fair share of Indian food and here at Turmeric, they execute well. The staff is extremely friendly and well versed in their cuisine. I've been here twice. Once for the lunch buffet, reasonably priced at $10. Standouts were goat curry and butter chicken. Tandoori chicken was just okay. Second trip was for takeout - lamb rogan josh, butter chicken, and garlic naan. Again, amazing butter chicken, sweet and savory with moist chicken. Lamb rogan josh was also excellent, it had that unique tamarind flavor and a slight kick. Believe it or not, garlic naan was probably the worst part, and it was delicious.

Nice atmosphere. The Curry Vindaloo (with Lamb) was fantastic.

DELICIOUS!!! The food was absolutely outstanding. I can't wait to go back. Also, the service was great & the decor was very lovely. I will DEFINITELY go back & recommend to anyone.
