Lunch here was....filling. I'll leave it at that. I went in and the dude up front gave us a seat pretty quickly at the bar. Since I was going over there to mentor a buddy on "pimpdom" (he's wanting to learn how to work the dating scene), we figured this would be a dark secluded enough location to take care of business. Ambiance: Too dark for lunch. Where we were sitting, it was rather dark (the restaurant doesn't have that much ambient light) and you were blinded each time you looked towards the entrance. Not a great thing to have going. I'm sure at dinner it makes for a much better experience. Food: I ordered the sashimi lunch combo ($11) and spicy yellow tail roll ($5.50). It came with soup and salad - standard fare for a Japanese restaurant in America (no, they normally don't do that in Japan from what I remember). The soup tasted like I was drinking seawater - wayyyyyyyyy too salty for my tastes. It's almost like they doubled the amount of miso in the water for soup. The salad was drenched in the stereotypical ginger base dressing and of course, it was iceberg lettuce which I'm not a huge fan of anyway. The sashimi and roll came out rather quickly. The salmon was nice and fatty - I'm a huge oily fish fan. Gotta get those omega-3s from somewhere. It came with three pieces of halibut, salmon, yellow tail, and tuna. The tuna was frozen before - the texture told me that (and no, we're talking AFTER the initial blast chilling that the United States requires to kill bacteria - you won't get FRESH sushi here in the US) and was a bit darker than normal. The spicy yellow tail roll was so-so - I mean, it was palatable but nothing spectacular. I guess the only good thing was the service - the guy was quick and he didn't let my glass get below half full (a certain pet peeve of mine since I drink beverages like crazy - hey, I like to pee, ok?). The bar looked nice - since I live in the Tyson's area, it looks like a place I'll come to for beers when I want to be surrounded by Koreans dressed in kimonos. I will have to come back to try the teppan yaki area - curiosity always gets the best of me. I just hope it's not like my relationship with taco bell where I go to a new one thinking it just might be better than the last only to have the indigestion and cacophony of farts tell me that it's just like the rest of Yum Foods brand. Lovely picture, eh?

Usually eat at the teppan bar, which our 8 year old digs. She won't eat shrimp anywhere else except at Sakura, where she says "It's the best in the world!" Anyway, it's your standard fare: humorous chefs attempting zany antics with well prepared traditional steak, seafood, or chicken entrees served straight from grill to plate. I normally order the filet mignon and scallops, and I've never been disappointed. Throw in a couple cocktails and you have a $75-$100 night. I suppose I'd give it 5 stars if every chef was truly a comedian, but I understand that not everyone can be funny, especially when english is not your first language...

This is the american japanese steak house. Expensive prices for mediocre food. The premium on the food goes towards the entertainment and decor. It's exactly what you would expect, nothing more or less. Serves it's purpose for the suburban crowd. You don't go here for food, you go here because you have to take a specific crowd to a specific place: like hooters, or chucky cheese, etc

Went with the family as a Dad's Day outing. I was treated by my son-in-law so I can't accurately speak to pricing but from the listings on the menu it was about what I'd expect for a nice dinner out, maybe a nitch on the high side. It IS, remember, dinner AND a show! The place WAS really big once you get to the rear where the grills are. Since it was semi-crowded it was a little noisy but that's part of the nature of the beast. Since there were six of us there was only one other group seated at our table. I was disappointed that they were out of the chicken livers (& it was only 5;45), I had really wanted to try them as the appetizer, but the shrimp were good. I also thought their miso was a hit. I got the strip steak and with the rest of the items (rice, veg, etc.) I was quite satisfied on portion. The quality was really good also and I liked all the items quite a bit although I wasn't very adventuresome. Everyone else liked their selections as well. Of course part of the attraction for teppanyaki is the show that goes with the food. Our chef and show were quite good. He performed the standards and had a good patter to go along with the stunts, he had an easy manner (although he said he had had only a 30 minute training class...). His 'shrimp-toss' was really good too. The children were "iffy" but the adults and he did very well. I had forgotten how much fun going to teppanyaki was. I'll not wait so long until he next time and may well go back here.

came here for a friend's bday dinner. this your average hibachi grill restaurant with the chefs cooking in front of you showing flaming onion volcano's and such. i ordered the rib eye and shrimp combo with mushroom app. first came out the soup and salad. soup - just dashi broth with a piece of mushroom and bits of scallion no miso, wtf no miso? salad - basic lettuce with ginger sauce side sauteed mushrooms- nice and buttery rib eye steak - the chef overcooked mine a bit when i ask for med rare. shrimp - OK, cooked just right. at the end the cook would flip the left over shrimp into your mouth and missed me twice lol its fun if your family or friends like to be entertained when they are eating.

A family favorite for birthday dinners & any other occasion for celebration. I have not tried the sushi offerings but the hibachi experience & food is fantastic. Entertaining & delicious for all ages.

I have been to this Sakura location twice- once for hibachi and once for sushi. The hibachi was delicious and some of the best in the area that I have tried, but the sushi was DISGUSTING. Even the traditionally mayo-free rolls have mayo in them and the fish was left scaly and was definitely not fresh. The restaurant is spacious and the service was good both times I went. I will go back for hibachi, but you couldn't pay me to eat their sushi again.

Fabulous anniversary dinner! We took our 2 children--7 and 10 years old--with us and had a ball. It was pretty slow being a Monday night, but our chef, Yoshi, did an outstanding job. We made a reservation for the hibachi part of the restaurant, so can't comment on the sushi, but the front of the restaurant looked very pleasant. I have a gluten sensitivity and they were very accommodating. The shrimp, lobster, scallops and filet mo on all delicious. We were seated with a party of 3 who were celebrating a birthday. Although we got a free dessert because of our anniversary, we also ordered a couple others that were out of this world. The cost of dinner here definitely makes it something we wouldn't do every week, but we'll be back for more special dinners!

Sakura is always a 10, hands down. The benefit of going to a Japanese steakhouse where they cook in front of you is 1. You know exactly what is going into the food you're eating 2. You see how it is prepared and 3. You never have to second guess if they might have a bad night in the kitchen or lack on their cooking cause you're there to physically see it. I love coming to this Sakura for lunch as I work in the tysons area. You get the same great experience but for a lower cost, and it's a super fun atmosphere to have a social lunch with coworkers. I always get the filet mignon (treat yourself) with fried rice and 2 (which ends up becoming 3 or 4) yum yum sauces. The lunch portion does not come with soup or an appetizer but does also include the salad and the same show you normally see with the dinner crowd. Plus it's very relaxed and casual, not bustling like it usually is at night. Definitely recommend to come any time of day but especially lunch since you get the same great meal for a deal!

I tend to hit up Sakura with coworkers for a Hibachi lunch because the prices are more fair than dinner. Each of the choices on their Hibachi menu turn out delicious, but the ribeye and chicken combination definitely nets you the most meat per dollar. That said, you cannot go wrong with any protein choice because the rice and veggies will take up any remaining space in your stomach! Just a note, if you are Korean, the servers are Korean so you can definitely get some additional banter going on if you know any (no, there isnt any preferential treatment)!

Hibachi review only! Came here on a Sunday night with 11 other people. Food here is decent. I got the chicken and steak combo. The soup was not very flavorful while the salad was yummy-I liked the dressing, although the salad itself was a bit watery. I like how the chefs will cook meat first then seafood, but that means some will wait longer for their food than the others, which can be a turn off. The chicken was yummy! The steak though was tough-I asked for medium rare and it was definitely cooked well done. The mushroom appetizers were great. The veggies could've been cooked a bit longer. I found that the fried rice didn't have much flavor either. The sauces are okay too. The yum yum sauce didn't have too much flavor, reminded me a lot of mayo (which is its base). The ginger sauce was very good albeit a tiny bit too salty for me.

I've been here twice before for lunch, however this time it took quite a while for us to get our food. We arrived around 1 pm and got sat immediately. We waited for 25 mins until they began cooking our food which I can understand with the way they work their business but usually they seemed faster to get to us than this time I visited. When the hibachi chef arrived he was very sweet and did his best to entertain us. The food was delicious especially with their special creamy sauce which is perfect with the filet mignon! Overall pretty good experience! I highly recommend the filet mignon and fried rice.

Wait, what just happened? This was definitely a last minute "ooooo, let's try that place" the outside of the restaurant is pretty cool, the door frame is shaped like a Japanese door but the rest of it is... Ehhh! When you walk through the double and heavy doors you're welcomed by a bar on the left and some sushi on the right. Honestly, I almost left because I thought it was a sit down Japanese restaurant. The hostess explained that the front was for sushi only and the hibachi was towards the back. It's a very big restaurant but SUPER dirty :( Their bathrooms were very dirty and sticky from the door to well, you can picture the rest. (Double yuck)! The hibachi grills were very dirty and didn't seemed that they were cleaned properly (which I figured out later why). The waitress came out in their cute traditional outfits which was nice and exciting but that's where our excitement ended. The soup was good, salad good, then the main course began and it was very sloppy. Not the worst but also not the best Hibachi I've been to. The chef had rice flying all over the place, the meals were made out of place and he didn't even bother cleaning the area that well. I was so lost by everything that was happening that I don't even remember my night! I'm not going to suggest for anyone to either go or not go here only because I know you can find better but they're also not the worst. Hope your experience is better than mine :)

Fresh sushi and great for a reasonably-timed sitdown lunch. On weekdays, they have a lunch special of $11 for two rolls (6 pieces per order). The proportion is not overly heavy on the rice too, which I applaud them for. Whether or not they have a lunch special, I like to do the sashimi appetizer (6 pieces total of yellowtail, tuna, and salmon) for $7.50 with a $5-6 roll. This leaves me satisfied but not overly full. Fish is fresh and perfectly cut! Spicy rolls are not the leftover fish crud either! I've also had the rainbow roll and salmon skin rolls before. Thin slices but nice in terms of fish coverage; also, they got overly generous with the kani (fake crab) stuffing which overpowers the delicate taste of the fish. Salmon skin is crunchy and medium-large size. I'm not a teppanyaki fan and wasn't overly impressed by theirs. So I'll stick with the sushiiii

Ok this place rocks on the weekend so u better have a reservation . All food great quality sometimes needs to be trimmed better ( steak) so ask for trim if that freaks you out -

A decent local joint to get your sushi fix but don't expect anything spectacular in terms of sushi quality. Drink portions are generous which is what keeps me coming back- I just absolutely love the pour and taste of the Lychee Martini. I've tried almost everything on their sushi menu and nothing is very memorable. The diamond roll is so far the only roll that I have found delicious. For some reason - they like to coat all of their rolls in mayo and I'm assuming it's to cover the lack of quality in the fish. In general, the place is dark, cavernous, and not a very inviting place to eat. The teppanyaki chefs seem to be the only glimmer of excitement around the restaurant but who wants to always walk out reeking of animal fat? Come here for the drinks... 'nuff said.

Upon arriving immediately on time for our reservation yet one member of our 8 person party not there yet, they refused to seat us until she had arrived. How is this a thing? We can't even sit down? Right off the bat I experienced poor customer service. While ordering drinks I also ordered a Spicy Tuna Roll and had to remind another server afterwards when our order hadn't arrived. The chef himself was amazing. Cooked the meat to the exact specification I asked for and gave us a nice little show (as hibachi chefs tend to do). The quality of the filet was average, nothing good or bad to say about it. The lobster was also good. Easily the best thing on my dish were the scallops. The fried rice here was severely lacking. If you've ever had fried rice at a high-end hibachi restaurant you can appreciate how orgasmically amazing it is. That was not the case here at Sakura. Sakura has a lot of room for improvement but fills a niche. Prices are a little high considering their lower quality of service.

I went the Sakura with a group of co-workers. We sat at one of the hibachi tables. The food was really good, they accommodated our gluten free coworker (although, I wouldn't really call it gluten free, since they used the same grill and utensils for both), and were really friendly. The only reason I don't give Sakura 5 stars is because our chef didn't do any of the standard hibachi tricks (no volcano, no spinning egg, no tossing food to people...nothing). I was pretty disappointed because that is one of things I look forward to at a hibachi restaurant. I am not sure if we had a less experience chef or if Sakura just doesn't do tricks in general. I'll go back and give them another chance.

I finally tried the hibachi & my friends & I were impressed! Great food & lively entertainment. Normally we sit at the sushi bar & are in and out in a flash, but I was with girlfriends and we wanted catchup time over dinner. Will definitely bring friends & family here again, looking forward to my next visit. Sushi is always fresh & fabulous...one day I hope to make it to dessert!!!

All I have to say is run away from this place. If you want real Hibachi go to Benihana's in Bethesda or next door to Philin Thai excellent food. The only reason it get's 1 star is because it's required.. Customer service was horrible.. the manager never stopped by to check on the tables.. didnt even see the manager on the floor -scallops were over cooked and had a fishy taste took 1 bite and I had no intentions on eating the rest. -fried rice was sooo bland I make better fried rice at home.. Not worth the $37.00 for lunch. I feel like I got scammed. I go to Philin Thai once a week and spend $25.00 for tasty and FRESH seafood. Very disappointed and again run away from this place. I would put this in the category with McDonald's just plain yuck!!!

It's kind of hard to find an awesome hibachi (teppanyaki) spot these days and around this area in general... Sakura satisfies my hibachi craving though. It's far from amazing, but it does the job. The starter soup is your standard salty hibachi soup. I noticed they do a pretty good job on the salad dressing on the starter salad. The ginger dressing is tangy, packs good flavor and isn't watered down. Fried rice is quite tasty. And of course, the yum-yum sauce is on point. I can't eat my fried rice without it :) The nice thing about Hibachi is you always have leftovers - makes for a nice little lunch the next day. Ordered the salmon hibachi once... huge mistake. The hibachi chef decided to leave in on the grill...the ENTIRE time. Could have been taken off the grill a good 10 minutes earlier =/ oh well, lesson learned. Steak is great though - order it rare/ medium rare. Sushi tastes pretty fresh (good quality). I'm a huge sashimi fan so at any sushi place, I always try the sashimi app. Price/value is always better vs. ordering sashimi a la carte and Sakura's sashimi app is pretty good. Now the hibachi chefs, it's really hit or miss when it comes to the entertainment factor. You know you got a good one if he can catch the egg in his chef hat.... it's a rare move these days in the profession :) And for some reason the last couple of times we were at Sakura, we got seated at the most awkward table/grill with the strangest people and families (just an observation!) See ya next time, Sakura :)

I planned a surprise party for my boyfriend's birthday here and about 15 friends. I contacted the restaurant in advance to make a reservation and explain I was having a surprise party. They normally do not accomodate suprise parties but since everyone was on time they were going to do their best. Unfortunately when I got there with my boyfriend our table still wasn't ready and we had to wait at the bar for another 45 mins. The party before us was taking their time finishing up. The manager felt very bad and gave us a free bottle of wine for our troubles which was extrememly generous. The food and hibachi chef we had were fantastic!! The hibachi chef interacted with the group and made sure everyone was having a fun time. I will definitely be back to Sakura!

This place has a really great sushi lunch deal. for $11 you get miso soup, a salad and two sushi rolls. That alone makes this a great go-to for sushi lunch, but it does get crowded as people working in the area frequent here for lunch. If you're coming with a big group for lunch, best to allow waiting time. That being said the sushi quality here is pretty good. About what you'd expect for a nice sushi restaurant in the Tyson's area. Service is also good, and pretty fast, even when it's crowded. I've been here a few times and haven't had a bad experience yet. Will definitely be back!

This restaurant is so deceivingly gigantic, it blows my mind every single time I come here. The front portion of the resto is dedicated to sushi-only diners, and is bigger than most sushi restaurants I know of on its own! And then you walk into the back where all the hibachi tables are, and it's like it stretches on for daaaays. Hibachi/teppanyaki itself is something that has gotten less and less awesome for me the more I do it -- I think it's the novelty wearing off thing? I mean, it's usually fun when you go with a group, since it's an interactive dining experience, and the food isn't terrible, of course, but there's kind of a "been there, done that, bought that t-shirt" factor to the whole shebang now. Of course, every once in a while you get an amazing teppanyaki chef who makes the whole thing incredibly fun, but alas, that's not the experience we had at Sakura. First off, even though the resto was basically empty, they still made us wait forever and a day to be seated and to get our drinks. I think maybe they were a little short staffed on chefs, because even after we got our drinks, it took a while to place our orders, and then it was another billion years until our chef actually came around to us. The show and food itself was fine, nothing spectacular, but all the waiting around really didn't enhance our experience and was kind of a killjoy. I guess on the plus side, the drinks here are actually pretty cheap -- I got one called the Tazuki... or something... anyway, it was like a mai-tai/pina colada-type cocktail on crack and it was delicious. Alas, I fear my teppanyaki days may be coming to a close -- looks like I'll be sticking to sushi and ramen when it comes to my beloved Japanese food from now on.

This is an okay hibachi place - very popular for the Vienna locals. My husband and I always order the Filet Mignon; even though the size is pretty small and the quality of the meat is okay, the food overall is pretty okay. We get to choose the 'appetizer' which we always stick to the Shrimp Flambe; it comes with a salad with miso dressing, mushroom soup (I'm not much of a fan of as it's really watery), fried rice (extra), and sauteed vegetables. I stick to the yum-yum sauce only, and it's creamy and thick, but slightly tangy. The teppenyaki chefs are pretty nice and entertaining, and I always get a kick out of the onion volcano. +okay hibachi offerings +Korean-owned

I came here for Valentine's Day this year and had a great time. Although probably not the romantic, intimate setting that most couples are looking for, I enjoyed the crowd, and sitting with other couples around the hibachi table. I think several reviews already mention this, but the space is really unassuming. While it looks smaller from the front, it's HUGE! The front is where they have their sushi bar area, and all of the hibachi tables are in the back (and they probably had 10+ back there). I ordered the filet mignon and shrimp, and of course loved seeing everything cooked right in front of me. Our cook was quick, fun, and had great energy, which you would really need when you're working this kind of job. Considering you get a cup of soup, salad, and an appetizer with your choice of meat, I thought the pricing was very reasonable.

I don't typically leave one-star reviews because if the experience is THAT bad I like to give the business the benefit of the doubt. However, I'm making an exception considering that Sakura is a chain restaurant who should really have their ish down already. We had an 8pm reservation and arrived a little under 10 minutes late as we missed the turn off from route 7. They wouldn't seat our party until everyone was present even though there was an abundance of tables. After a waitress took our drink orders we were ignored for 40 minutes before one of the hibachi chefs freed up. No apologies for the wait or anything. Then, when the chef finally came he gave me a hard time about being on my cell phone while he was confirming everyone's orders (Oh sorry--do you not like to be kept waiting?) By the time the chef started doing the fancy hibachi tricks I was sufficiently not in the mood for it as I had been completely ignored by the staff for 40 minutes. With the knowledge that I'm sounding super paranoid and irrational I'm pretty sure that the chef purposely threw a shrimp at my forehead at one point. To say one positive thing, the booze is dirt cheap--probably to get you drunk so that you enjoy the "show". The food is overpriced and the service is non-existent. I could ramble on for several more paragraphs about how much I now hate this place but I'll just stop here. Bigons.

I've never actually eaten in the restaurant (always take-out) so this is purely a review of the food. I've had the tekka don here countless times, and it's never disappointed me. The fish tastes fresh, and the rice is very well made. However, it's nothing special, just the same as you would get at most other sushi restaurants. The miso soup and salad are also the typical ones you get at Japanese restaurants. Frankly, I only ate here often because it was 5 minutes away from my place at the time. I usually have a pretty high standard for Japanese food, so I would try other restaurants before I came here.

I enjoyed myself at the the sushi bar. It was a busy Saturday night but the sushi chefs were very friendly. The rainbow row and spicy tuna roll were very good. Nothin too special about this place but the food was good. I will try it again before I head back to Texas and maybe see if I can bump it to 4 Stars.

Went for a mom's night out as a group of 10. It's a great place for a group - large tables and lots of parking. The food and drinks were great. I had the teriyaki chicken but did not enjoy the appetizers that come with the entree.

First off I should mention the place itself is beautiful, I love all the wood and traditional Japanese garb! I had no idea this dinky strip mall in Tyson's housed something so pretty! I was here this weekend for a gf's birthday with a group of 7. The hostess told us initially the could not find our reservation-- the birthday girl had made it herself and called to confirm it the day before so this was irritating. But instead of simply apologizing for the mix up she acted like we were trying to pull one over on her. Fortunately the manager on duty was nearby and she apologized and had us seated quickly. Our server was efficient, but not particularly friendly. She seemed annoyed we didn't know what we wanted as quickly as she came back with waters, but she only gave us two drink menus for 7 of us, so that should have been expected. She also seemed annoyed with one of us that wanted sushi and came back to the table a few times before remembering to bring back a sushi menu for her. To her credit she did ask us how to split the check before it needed splitting, so that was nice. I was not impressed by the left over food on the ground in the cooking stations. You sit at the grill, so I would think between groups they would clean up the discarded bits and pieces, but that was not the case as far as I could tell. On the other hand our chef was extremely entertaining. He joked with us the whole time and really made it a nice experience. As for the food: I ordered lobster and scallops, which I thought would have been the first things off the grill since they required the least amount of cooking time, but they were actually last off, making them extremely tough and chewy as they were over cooked. The flavor was heavenly though, or would have been, so that was disappointing. The veggies, rice, soup and salad were very tasty. At the end of dinner they brought a mini cheesecake to the birthday girl and sang to her, which was sweet. Also, after we had paid our tab and were finishing up or drinks the manager came over and offered us a round of shots for the inconvenience, so that too was a very nice gesture.

Sushi is amazing, and hibachi is good (but the sushi is better). Somewhat expensive depending on what you get, but it's all fresh and made to order so that's to be expected. Great spot for lunch if you work out in the tysons area, and tables are almost always available no matter what time it is.

We had a party of 6 celebrating a birthday. Reservation and seating was great. They had a nice menu for hibachi. Around the table we ordered various combinations of filet mignon, lobster, scallops, chicken and NY strip steak. The food was good but very special. The experience of the cook and preparation of the food was a bit weak - the guy kept asking us all these personal questions about who we are, if we are local, etc ... Small talk that is ok if you meet someone next to you on a long flight but not appropriate when someone is cooking for you. Prices were ok. If you have done hibachi in the past, don't expect a special experience. If you haven't, it is worth a try.

This wasn't our destination... we were starving while waiting for our car to be serviced and it was close and got good ratings from yeeeeeeeeeeeelp! We ordered the sushi and sashimi for two ($51.00) and shrimp and veg table tempura appetizer. The platter was enormous, nicely presented and very FRESH, Tasty and exceeded my expectations. The salad was unusually large for a Japanese restaurant but I certainly won't complain and the miso soup was just fine. Service - extremely efficient. Almost too efficient, but friendly and didn't make us feel rushed even though food came out quickly. Prices - Normal Ambiance - wide open spaces-- this place must fill up because it is huge! If in the area, for sure will return!!

I haven't been to Sakura for the hibachi/grilled food, only for the sushi bar and front section of the restaurant where they seat sushi menu-only customers... That said, I am never wowed or transported to sashimi nirvana while here. The service, to me, seems a little ho-hum and sad. Although the sushi itself tastes fresh and they do offer some creative selections (see below), Sakura is not my go-to. I'd rather have Nikko sushi in Reston, and I hear Sushi Yoshi down the road is a better choice. Apparently they only offer their dinner menu on weekends, so the fiance was bummed that he couldn't order what he came here for, which was a bento box. Our waitress also kept refilling my Diet Coke with more warm Diet Coke, and when I asked her for a glass with ice, she seemed miffed. I always order a seaweed salad, and although Sakura's portion is quite large, the flavor is lacking when compared to, well, any other sushi place (or Wegman's), yet I ate it anyway. For creative sushi roll options, especially if you want to do without rice, go for the Diamond Roll. For $11, you receive 7 pieces of cucumber-wrapped roll, stuffed with tuna, salmon, krab, and avocado, artfully presented on a plate surrounded by dots of spicy mayo and a creamy-ish teriyaki sauce. It's definitely a "safe" choice with clean tables and restrooms, fresh fish, etc., but it's not a "wow" choice, at least in the sushi menu department.

Tried it again with the family. This time service was much better than last time, and our salad was not tainted. But, unfortunately the Hispanic chef was no where in sight. Our big Asian chef failed to impress, entertain, or properly cook some of the food. Overall, a decent experience, but at the price, would prefer more quality in the cooking. Medium Filet was cooked medium rare Eggs were burned slightly Bean sprouts were also slightly burned Veggies were also slightly burned Waitress brought a water instead of the ordered beverage. Busboy seemed to lack communication skills and personality all together. The cooking table was pretty dirty when we sat down, but the chef did clean it before cooking. It seemed the Chef was in a rush to finish us off, and go to the next table waiting. Our wait time as usual is always a bit long since it was a busy night. Really feel this place has potential to do really well and deliver consistent quality service, but time and time again, it's consistently, OK. Never seen a manager working either.

The sushi is an A, very good. The hibachi is a B. The service is C to B depending on who you get. Kind of place that's so big it's like a factory and the staff has that attitude. But the food is pretty decent.

I love their sushi! The only problem is that I went in the afternoon, and it was very empty. On the bright side, the waitress was very caring and polite to us.

My family and I love going to this Sakura near Tysons. We are always pleased with their service. We especially enjoy having Taka or Ray. They are both exceptional cooks and make dinner exciting and enjoyable. I always get the filet mignon and shrimp. Their Yum Yum sauce is on point! I pour it over everything. Can't wait to go back for the next occasion.

In spite of my intentions not to, returned, this time with a party of 8. Logistics were much better as we took up an entire cooking station. The Hispanic chef was a disappointment over the real thing. He was boorish compared to a real Japanese chef, as well as being amateurish. After being informed of a shrimp allergy, he began by cooking the shrimp, only to have to clean the grill and replace utensils and start over, holding the shrimp until last. He threw the food at us and fed my shirt with a piece of steak in the process. Again, food was adequate but not spectacular. No tour buses this time, but you have to be wary of an establishment which caters to tour groups. Still would not willingly return.

Not a sushi connoisseur by any means so take this review FWIW. Went here with coworkers for lunch during a slow work day. It's located in a strip mall but the interior is huge and very nicely decorated. I ordered the lunch special which came with a soup and salad which were both very good. I got a California roll and a smoked salmon roll. Both were pretty good. Some of the rolls weren't rolled that tightly, so they came apart but meh. The damage was only $11. I'd come back here again. Next time might try the teriyaki.

I started going to the original Sakura back in the 90's in Fredericksburg VA and our family and friends went to one of the 2 Sakura's in town then. I moved away from the area and went back to Wash DC last week and we went to this Sakura after a 12 year absense, until last week. It was just like it was 12, 15, 18 years earlier. The menu had a few new combos on it but otherwise it was the same. The food is just as good today, they had a great thing and they kept it and changed nothing. I have to assume all the resaurants they own are also the same, that's good because it's good, fun show and lots to eat!!! Good service and good exhaust fans !!! Try it and bring kids - they love fire.

This place has great service, fast speedy and efficient. Great for quick lunch. Their sushi rolls are good-- the spicy ones are actually hot and spicy. The lunch special includes soup, salad and two rolls for 11$ so you will get a good deal.

Can you say Yum Yum sauce!!! I have travel to a lot of places and hands down this is the best restaurant for Hibachi. The seasonsing, fried rice, shrimp and chicken are the BEST!

We come here all the time for a fun evening. It's always interesting to see who you are going to get seated with, and though the schtick gets old - it is fun to see how excited little kids get about it. It doesn't look like much from the outside, but the inside is huge - it's kind of mind blowing. This is a pretty typical hibachi place with consistent, good food and fun drinks - and I am addicted to the creamy "yum yum" sauce that they serve. I typically get the filet and chicken combo - each entree comes with fried or steamed rice, veggies, salad, soup, and an appetizer - I get the shrimp. It is a lot of food for the price.

Excellent service, very friendly. The food was very good quality hibachi steak house type fare. If you have a craving for this type of food (which my wife and I did), Sakura is a consistent bet. I certainly recommend it. The chef was very personable--I was not a fan of the attempts and throwing pieces of shrimp into people's mouths--I was having trouble catching them and the chef started pelting me with shrimp (taking off one star for this). It was somewhat belittling to have this occur.

I ordered the lunch special (which is not shown on their website I had to call and ask for it) for $11.50 which comes with miso soup and salad with ginger dressing. The miso soup is way too sweet, not sure if they add sugar, but I am glad it came in a small container so I didn't have to feel badly wasting it. The salad is decent, but again the dressing was too sweet. Ginger is supposed to have a kick to it which this did not have. I ordered the spicy tuna and spicy salmon and while they are generously sized they came with cucumber. Nothing against the vegetable, but I expect avocado when I order any roll other than california. The price was decent if I didn't know other sushi place in Vienna. Do yourself a favor and go to Sushi Yoshi in Vienna where you can get 3 amazing rolls + miso + salad for $9.50.

This was my first time visiting this Sakura (I've been to the one out in Fair Lakes a few times) and I was honestly blown away by the size of the place. From the outside (in the middle of a strip mall), you wouldn't think it would be much, but it's very spacious and well decorated. Sometimes it can take awhile to get started with your meal, at least for hibachi, as they are waiting to fill the tables. We were in no rush though and enjoyed a glass of wine while we waited. The food was delicious (I got the filet and lobster!) and our chef was very talented and friendly. I've had chefs before basically force you to try to catch a shrimp in your mouth, but this one didn't do that, which I appreciated. As usual, it was more than enough food, so I got to eat it again for lunch the next day. We will definitely be going back to this location!

I have been to Sakura's a few times now and I have to say that this is probably the best location I have been to. My wife and I always get the same thing when we eat here. I like the chicken and steak combo with a side order of shrimp that I split with my wife. We also get the sauteed mushrooms for an appetizer. As usual you get a soup and salad to start with as long as you order a combo for an entree. The sushi at this location is great. I am not an avid sushi eater but here it was pretty tasty.

  • Annie K.

I have been here several times and have enjoyed my experiences here. I usually get the filet mignon with scallops, with either the chicken liver or sauteed mushrooms for my appetizer, or sometimes I get both! I think it's a little pricey for what you get, but you pay for the tricks and entertainment from the chefs. It's a good place to go for groups.

Came for dinner with a couple friends while in town visiting and had a pretty good meal. Started with a few different sushi rolls which were fine but, if I lived here this would not be a sushi destination based on what we had. The cooktop table dinners were also good but not great. One different touch was the option of chicken livers for your appetizer. Of course I had to pick them if for no other reason than to gross out my friends. The livers were plentiful but cooked to death and dry. For the entree, I chose the filet and scallops. Again, pretty much middle of the road in terms of flavor. The filet was prepared a perfect medium rare but the scallops were overcooked and tough. I also thought the shrimp sauce was somewhat bland and a little watery. The chef put on a good show with all the standard routines and jokes.

HIBACHI - We had an absolutely wonderful and entertaining time with friends at the hibachi grills. Our chef (Taka), was extremely talented and funny, cracking eggs in the air, as well as cracking jokes left and right. He was very entertaining. Although he didn't always have robotic precision, he performed melodic mastery of his cooking skills. He peppered and grilled our food, we peppered and grilled him with questions. He was very engaging, flipping everything from shrimp and eggs to his cooking utensils in the air. We were shocked that he even squirted his sauce bottle at us, although there was a catch that I won't ruin. You'll just have to see for yourself. For habachi, I can totally recommend Sakura a great place to come. For the chef, I can totally recommend Taka.

So I have been craving sushi since my last bad experience (Sticky Rice WDC) figured I would run around the corner and grab some TOGO... I have been to other Sakura locations overtime and to me they are all pretty much the same. Although this locations decor was very inviting. From the outside it doesn't even look that big, so to my surprise when I walked in it was nice. The place was packed for lunch and the hostess was very friendly and attentive. I ordered a tuna roll, salmon roe, Ika sashimi and a salmon skin hand roll. My salmon skin hand roll just fell apart, it wasn't tightly rolled, but other than that it was very good. The salmon skin was crispy, just the way it's suppose to be! My tuna roll was just so so ~ I have had better tuna, normally the color alone will tell you. To me, the more red in color the better, not pink tuna good ppl. The Ika was fresh, not pasty, and the roe was yummy! So with that being said, my 1st experience at this location was alright. I would go back ~ just not ordering the tuna! lol

My first time here and I have to say that the sushi was really good. I tried the Spicy California Roll and the Dynamite Roll. They were both really tasty although the first one wasn't as spicy as I would have hoped. The staff was very friendly and the wait time wasn't burdensome either. I recommend this place for lunch. I was in and out for my carry out order within 10 minutes. The menu is slightly pricey but the food was worth it.

My friend and I met up here for a sushi dinner. Nevermind the fact that we accidentally waited for each other in different locations for 20 minutes (I waited inside, she waited outside), but when we finally did meet up, we were left waiting at the hostess stand for a few minutes. My friend informed me that they can be a bit slow here. Once we were seated though, service was okay. A little slow moving in terms of getting our orders in but the sushi came out at a reasonable time. And once it did YUM! I had the shrimp tempura roll and the bamboo roll. They were so good that I even went back to the Fair Lakes Sakura to order them for lunch the following week. Fantastic. I'd give the place 4 stars just for taste alone, but take away one star for the slow service.

I like this place.. I'm not too much of a hibachi fan bc i've seen the tricks a million times (I use to work at one in college as a server). It's more entertaining when you're with a group of people, but if it's for two... I rather just get the food without the show. Sakura gets pretty busy on weekends, so make a reservation! I usually get the filet Mignon and scallops with either the mushrooms or chicken liver for appetizer. The last time I went, I tried the hamachi jaw (yellow tail) and the tuna tataki salad...both were really good! The chefs are entertaining and the servers are very friendly as well. btw.. this place is deceivingly huge!! They have a large bar, large sushi area and a huge habachi area!

Came here for lunch on a Saturday with a friend. It was difficult to get into and find a parking space because of the day and the fact that there is construction blocking off various ways to get into the shopping center. Place was pretty empty when we got there. Competent staff, adequate lighting. I liked the dark wood. Ended up ordering an eel roll, some tamago, and tempura. The dinner order of tempura is HUGE. Seriously. There's like 20 pieces that come in it. Don't get it unless you're sharing or you have an undying love for tempura. It was decent, but nothing special. The sushi was presented nicely enough, but it did look slightly sloppy. In the tamago, there was massive amounts of egg and only a tiny amount of rice. Not proportional at all- the egg was folded and cut into a large block, and you could hardly tell there was any rice between the seaweed and egg. A fair choice for the shopping center, and just fine for a sushi fix... But I probably won't be back anytime soon.

Walked in an hour before close, with a Sushi craving after reading all the rave reviews. WARNING- THE PLACE IS TOTALLY OVERRATED AT 4 STARS. The food quality was sub-par, the fish did not seem fresh, and even though the servings were generous, the flavors were muted and lacking. Even the hot tea was flavorless. How in hell do you get hot tea wrong??? I don't mind dropping the money this meal cost, but I don't feel I got my money's worth last night. I've had better sushi at the airport. To add insult to injury, we were rushed through dinner by a wait staff obviously over eager to get on out, hell, they started bussing our table while we still had food on it. I definitely won't be back Should you chose to give it a go, try the teppanyaki, cause you will be disappointed with the sushi bar.

personally im not a huge hibachi fan, but i guess if i had to go, i would go here. at least their sushi selection is decent and their habachi is generally not as oily as some other locations. the live performance is definitely fun, and seeing other peoples reaction at your table is always a blast. surprisingly we got seated right away on a friday night with a group of 7. but we did arrive kinda late. around 830.

I have been here 4 times in the past year. Each time they produce good tasting food and their chefs are pleasant. The waitresses who bring the drinks and take the initial orders have been pretty slow to appear, but are tentative when they are present. It is a bit annoying that the miso and the salad happen nearly at the same time. I believe they should slow the process down since this place is not intended to be a fast food joint. My biggest complaint is the prices, escpecially on the drinks, however this is Tysons Corner and I expect these kind of price hikes, though they'd get more of my business if they lower their prices. To finish on the bright side they clean this please top down between meals at the grills. More than I have seen at other Hibachi like places. I would recommend trying this place if you are in the mood for some salty Japanese food that is cooked in front of you. Its really the only hibachi option in the Tysons Corner area.

I went there with my friends last week. It was not bad. The service there, I'd give it an A. But, For quality of food i'd give it a B. It was too salty, too much soy sauce, and probably it was overcooked.

This is the best sushi I've found in the area. It's always fresh, the portions and prices are reasonable, and it's not slow. The hibachi is good, but we keep coming back for the sushi. The diamond roll (it's been on the specials menu for over a year) is divine. The service is never overly enthusiastic, but that's not what I go to a sushi place for. This place hits a home run every time on the food, and the service doesn't take anything away from it, so it's a solid 4 stars from me.

It has been a while since I've yelped about anything so here is to Sakura Japanese Steak and Seafood and Sushi Bar in McLean, VA that I dined last night with a small group of friends for a belated birthday dinner celebration. ATMOSPHERE & DÉCOR: The restaurant owner pays great attention to details with the aesthetics of the venue whereby the restaurant was decorated with traditional Japanese paintings, wall scrolls, Japanese art crafts, and artifacts (a hung detailed Kimono and Samurai warrior armor on display). The restaurant was very spacious and I absolutely love the wood furnishings all-around. The restroom facility is organized and smells clean and offers a well-lighted ambiance. There is also a great open bar with two (I believe) flat-screen LCD TVs that provides customers with cable TV programs (though it was tuned to ESPN) as bar customers sip on their drinks or wait for their food entrées. The restaurant is located on a long strip mall of stores along one side of the Leesburg Pike within the shopping center that offers a good sized open parking lot. Rating: 5 of 5 SERVICE: Service was great from beginning to end by the host who seated us promptly when all of us were together. The server was attentive to our needs but wasn't knowledgeable about the menu in its detail when I asked about the weight of my filet mignon entrée. Also, our assigned teppanyaki chef delivered only a somewhat satisfactory thought nothing jaw-dropping performance as he took stage before the flat grill to cook our order. But no complaints except my filet mignon was not cooked to order as I requested medium and it was slightly under medium rare. At least he wasn't like the other teppanyaki chef I saw on the other table whereby he was literally throwing small cut up shrimp meat "at" a customer with his spatula--I thought that was very rude and degrading as a human being). Rating: 3 of 5 FOOD PORTION: For the price, the food portion is average. I "upped" my portion of Sakura fried rice but I am a big eater and I was hungry before arriving. Rating: 4 of 5 FOOD QUALITY: The food was fresh as I saw our teppanyaki chef dishes out a lavish portion of salmon steaks, filet mignon, rib-eye, shrimps, scallops, and mixed vegetables (onions, broccolis, carrots, and corn). Hands down FRESH! Rating: 5 of 5 PRICING: The pricing is as Yelp puts it "Spendy" since my meal came up to be about $32 with tax and tips (without ordering any drinks--even more if it was alcohol). Considering the average food portion in my entrée, I think this is a restaurant I go to for special occasion unlike a pair of strangers who one of them shared that he use to come out to dine with his college buddy almost every other day. Rating: 2 of 5 A stellar restaurant overall for definitely special events and or family and friends but be ready when the teppanyaki chef (hopefully tosses and not directly takes aim to throw food in your mouth). Bon Appétit!

The restaurant itself is beautiful and very clean but I found the food and the show average. I much prefer Kobe in Leesburg. The hostess would not sit us till the last person in our party was physically in the restaurant (they were parking the car). I understand they don't want to sit just part of the party because it will hold up the rest of the table from starting, but really 5 minutes???? The place was empty because it was a Monday night at 5:00pm and we ended up sitting in the exact same spot if she had sat us first. I started with a tuna hand roll and it was okay, but I found the tuna a little watery actually. Don't think I would order sushi from here. I had New York Strip and Scallops as my main course. I wish I had gotten the Filet. The Scallops were good. Again, I think Kobe in Leesburg is much better food wise. Overall, don't think i'd go here again.

I'm sure you know what you're getting when you come here, its more the show than the food. Which is totally fun, and totally worth it, but don't expect AMAZING food for the hibachi. The sushi is pretty good though. Much better than I expected. Don't come with out a reservation for hibachi or they'll screw you and make you wait for bigger parties to make even tables. Sushi you can always walk in and grab.

We were at Sakura last night for my husband's birthday. I called two hours before we got there and got a reservation easily probably because it was a Tuesday night. When we got there we were seated right away to an empty grill/table luckily that got filled up pretty quickly. While we were waiting the waitress got our drink orders and brought our drinks promptly. I thought my Mai Tai was well made. Our chef happend to be the head chef Taka. He has a great personality, a good entertainer. I had scallops and filet mignon, husband had shrimp and filet mignon. Prepared medium filet mignons were tender and juicy. I loved my scallops, shrimps were a bit on the tough side to me, maybe because I prefer them steamed. I loved the veggies, salad and soup that came with the meal. The fried rice was meh, it is suprising since it is a staple item for a restaurant like this. The only other part I didn't enjoy was the time the chef cuts up little pieces of food and throws it to the patron to catch them by mouth. I felt this was a bit degrading perhaps because I suck at it! :) I really didnt wanna do it so maybe after the third no and second miss(!) he should have let it go :) Yes, I missed it in all three times! In any case, if you dont mind that the rest of the show was very enjoyable made the 1.5 hour go by so quickly leaving us longing for more. We capped it with a celebratory sake bomb which was the bomb. We def recommend Sakura and Taka for special occasions! PS. We had their sushi a few times both take-out and eat-in before I would give that 3.5 stars.

We took our newest team member here for lunch a few weeks ago. The chef darn near seared our eyebrows off...which was hilarious to us. Service was for the most part ok. We had to keep making eye contact with the waitress so she could clear our plates and glasses...odd since there were literally only two other tables there at the time. She was also supposed to fully stock the chef's cart and the proteins were missing. However, the master chef did a fantastic job on our food. The skills these chefs have to have are insane! Plus,we didn't need to add a single thing to our dishes as they were seasoned perfectly. I'm only taking away one star because I plan to visit this locale again within the next few weeks. I'd like to see how the service is when they are really busy

This place is HUGE!! You'd never guess by the looks of things from the outside b/c it's squashed between 2 random shops. But once you walk into this restuarant, this place goes on for DAYS, and it's really easy on the eyes inside. I met up here with a friend. Now, the menu was just medioucure. In fact it took me over 15 minutes b/c nothing really stuck out at me that I wanted to eat. Everything on the menu seemed like it was on every other sushi menu in this town-BORING. So I went ahead and asked the server, if she had a special menu, and to my surprise, they actually did! I ended up ordering everything from their special menu, and on top of that, I also order all my sushi to be made with SOY PAPER instead of seaweed. If you haven't tried soy paper, your missing out! Try ordering your next sushi with soy paper, it tastes amazing! The fish tasted very fresh and the service was pretty quick with a smile. I wouln't have a problem with coming back here.

The food is pretty good, pretty standard hibachi place. The yumyum sauce is not quite as flavourful as epicurian, but not bad. The service is incredibly slow when they're busy though. Went there on a thursday night at 8 and didn't get out till almost 11 after almost a 50 min wait when the wait time was supposed to be 30 min. Waited about 10-15 minutes before getting up and going back to the bar to get water for the people at my table. It wasn't until after we flagged down the server that we were able to order, and even then our only interactions with the server were one time ordering drinks, one time ordering food, and finally had to flag her down to get the check. Even with good company, the wait seemed a bit excessive.

Hibachi is gimmicky. It may not be that great if you go to it all the time, but once in a while it's pretty entertaining. I'm surprised at how big the place is. The front area is so large, that they could host a dance off or something. I ordered the ribeye/chicken combo. The chicken was good, but it took the longest to cook. I don't recommend the ribeye because the quality wasn't that great, plus it's like 30% meat. If you want to go with a beef option, go with the filet mignon. NY Strip isn't that bad either. Just, don't get it medium well or well done, because it will be chewy like rubber.

The curious thing about Japanese Steakhouses is that they are somewhat of a tired cliche. Most of them are so interchangeable that you could completely substitute one for another with no noticeable difference. However, Sakura Japanese Steakhouse manages to differentiate itself by narrowly edging out its opponents in a few essential areas. It's not enough that the food at Sakura is tasty (because it is)--it's that the food is just tasty enough to keep you from patronizing another spot. It's not that the cooks at Sakura are usually fun and jovial (because they are)--it's because the cooks are just a little more exciting than that other place down the street. It's not that Sakura has a bar or sushi entrees, it's that Sakura has a bar AND sushi entrees. There's a theme here, and it's a subtlety that has kept me coming back to Sakura (or one of its many locations) for the last three years. Sakura is simply a happy place. The food is good, your drinks are (usually) full, the cooks are fun, and the whole experience is spot-on. Like every Japanese Steakhouse, Sakura has the usual fare of chicken, steak (teppenyaki and filet), shrimp, lobster, scallops, and every permutation thereof. Sakura also offers a vegetable dinner for those that are more health-conscious. Your entree comes with miso soup, salad, and an assortment of grilled vegetables. You also get your choice of steamed or fried rice (stick with the fried) with your meal, and an appetizer selection among shrimp flambe, mushrooms, and livers. If you're keeping score, that's a lot of food for roughly $20+. Trust me, you won't leave hungry. And now Sakura is offering take-out opportunities. Nice touch. Unfortunately, all Japanese Steakhouses suffer a similar illness in that your experience is inexorably tied to the skill of your cook. Sakura is no different. While the vast majority of my experiences at Sakura has been enjoyable, there have been times where the chicken was overcooked and the drinks were slow to refill. And while Sakura does offer sushi dishes, most sushi snobs will not find Sakura's sushi worth the trip. If you are one of these people, I cannot recommend Sakura's sushi to you. So, stick with the hibachi if you go to Sakura. It's a great find for those that give it a chance. --- Pros: Great food, large portions, pleasing decor, fun experience Cons: Inconsistent quality of food and waitstaff, large-group friendly (so crowds are horribly unpredictable)

By far the best japanese steak house in Northern Va, been to a few other chains and there food quality being the difference. Most of the same tricks/entertainment while preparing the food in front of you if your used to eating at Japanese steak house. But like i said its a step above in food quality and service. Not all Sakura's are the same as i would give the one in Fair Lakes 2-3 stars, dont know why theres such a difference but definitely noticeable and is why i highly recommend the Sakura in McLean/Tysons area VA.

It's a one time visit place not the best Hibachi. I have been to their other branch in Fairfax as well. We went in a group of 10 and pretty much ordered all the drinks/food varieties there. Chef show was Ok kind. Better to go in group for one time experience. We felt the restaurant attendant was bit harsh to us and she lack patience. Bottom line: I am not a repeat customer to this.

This place deserves more than the 3.5 star rating it gets. It is very clean, has nice ambiance, offers a massive teppanyaki room, and a full bar. On top of that, the sushi quality is excellent, albeit slightly "too authentic" for some tastes, which may be a reason why it gets 3.5 stars in Falls Church, VA. I usually go with my colleague who is a huge fan as well. We usually order entirely way too much from all parts of the menu (beef tataki, tempura, udon, sashimi, rolls, squid yakitori, sunomono, etc.), and end up paying over $100 for two people. It is not cheap, but it is delicious and satisfying. By the way, people: sushi is not supposed to have huge amounts of rice or be the size of your fist. It is best served bite-sized (one piece, one bite) and at room temperature. Pros: fresh & very good sushi, inventive rolls and appetizers, competent service, good selection of drinks, nice decor Cons: pricey, middle of strip mall which is always in construction

Sakura is a pretty consistent and reasonably priced sushi joint and bar. We've been more times than we can remember, and the service for sushi is always reasonable, and the food is always good. While their sashimi and rolls are not the best in the Fairfax County/Arlington areas, this place will rarely be unable to seat you, and when it can't, the bar is a great resort. Their dragon roll is expensive, but it is elaborately decorated and large; it's worth the price. Most of their other rolls are good, and some are fantastic values, like their sake roll and eel avocado roll, as well as their rainbow roll. We tend to get their sashimi appetizer (a mix) which is better than average, but nothing to crave. You won't get anything extra with your meal, like a tofu plate while ordering or an orange after you've finished, but they do have a damn good coconut-flavored breath mint. Their house salad is nothing special (ginger dressing), but their miso soup is pretty decent.

i haven't figured out what i don't like about this place yet..... maybe because the name is attached as a chain restaurant? iunno.. i'm a snob when it comes to good food, and i'm ANTI-anything chain related restaurants! ANTI-ANTI-ANTI! i can't say it enough!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The restaurant itself was very BIG. Lotsa open space and very clean. I have been here on a few occasions for lunch and dinner..... I will have to say, lunch here is a steal. Definitely enjoyed lunch than I did dinner. To my surprise, their sashimi is cut in very large pieces. Very abnormal for most sushi restaurants...but not too much to complain about...except for the tuna. the way it was cut, was not correct, and left me having to chew the damn thing (there was too much fat in the slices)... Sushi should be meant to melt like butter in your mouth. I'd come back here more so for lunch as they have great lunch specials.... and I'd like to try their hibachi ... so yeah... i'd come back here. Quality--eh, overall not too shabby.

Perfect if you're in the neighborhood and craving hibachi. Not great if you want an awesome show or the most awesome-tasting food on the planet. The show probably would have been better if my boyfriend and I hadn't sat at a table with a bunch of strangers (read: better with a large group). Also serves sushi, which is just OK, not the best ever.

Quality experience, nice atmosphere. All the good things you would expect from a Japanese steakhouse. I recently joined a group of friends for a dinner here. We had a great time. The chef put on a great show--even by Japanese steakhouse standards. The food was good...not the best ingredients out there, but pretty good. I would definitely recommend it for a large group--especially if you have enough people to have your own table.

It doesn't look like much from the outside, so don't let that put you off. The food's pretty good.

Fun place. Food is good only gripe would be the price for a group is expensive. It's one of those places I'd go once in awhile because it's to much for what you get.

Fairly typical teppanyaki-style Japanese restaurant. Fun place for groups. Cooks are very animated and outgoing. You'll have a good time.

I had a reservation set and still had to wait for over an hour to beseated after groups who showed up after us. After being seated we had to wait an additional hour to have the chef come. Food was mediocre, WAY over priced and portions were small. Plenty of other better hibachi places to go to.

The sushi at Sakura is awful! Grade D, amateur sushi is the best way to explain it. I'm a sushi person... I love it! I've been here a few times, different locations in the area. Every time I went back, I would try giving it another chance... and they gave me nothing! I will admit, my first experience experience at sakura wasn't too too bad. But I still wasn't very impressed. I ordered the california roll and some shrimp roll. The rice was so dry! And the rolls were so small! My last experience with sakura is what made me decide to never come again. My friend and I decided we wanted hibachi and sushi so we were seated at a grill. Our chef humored us, which made up for the tasteless food. The sushi we ordered made me gag by my last bite. It was either the dragon or dynamite roll, I don't remember. It was topped with a light orange color sauce with marshmallow like chunks in it. Very unappetizing. I'll never go back.

Went here last night for my boyfriend's birthday. The food was good and the chef was funny and entertaining to watch. My complaint is about the ambiance of the restaurant (non-existent) as well as the fact that I told the hostess as well as our waitress that it was my boyfriend's birthday, and they did not do anything for him. When I called ahead they said they bring the birthday guest a free piece of cheesecake but we never got any, even with repeated reminders. I was embarrassed and the whole meal only lasted 45 minutes so it didnt seem very special for a birthday.

This is a 3.5 stars restaurant. The teppanyaki are very nicely done. Lobster, scallop, shrimp and filet are all accurately cook, not over done. So the food and prep won my points. Services was alright. I don't really like their yum-yum source but the ginger source works. Much better food at than Woo-Lae-Oak across the street. :-)

Most Japanese steakhouses are very similar, offering the same menu, however this restaurant is clean and the service is great. Food was very good, with only the chicken being a little on the tougher side. There was only 4 people at our table and our chef tried his hardest to be entertaining. Drink selection is fairly decent. I highly suggest the Apple Saketini.

It was just ok sushi. The toro was not that fresh and fell apart when I tried to pick it up. The rolls were also just ok. The miso soup wasn't special. No raves here. The service was great and the restaurant itself is really nice inside. I liked the free refills on the drink, but most places do that now. I would come back here for the hibachi, but not the sushi.

The best sushi available BY FAR!!!! I have been coming to Sakura for over a year now and I am ALWAYS impressed. The servers know us by name and know our order when we come in. I have also eaten hibachi here a few times and greatly enjoyed it as well. You cannot find better sushi from here to California (trust me, I know).

um OK how do I start?? first I came by myself (weird I know) for hibachi it started off great I had an excellent drink it was a red mojito I forget the name even though i asked for a regular mojito it actually turned out to be pretty good and rather strong for 2 in the afternoon but hey its 5 somewhere right??!! anyhoo I ordered the shrimp and filet I purposely get the filet even though it's not as much meat it's sooo tender. not the case here Idk about other hibachi places in dc but where I'm from we do not chop up ALL the steaks (including the cheap stuff) mix it together and give no regard to the fact that I asked for med-rare and got some rare some mid some well and some cheap stuff. wow! my next grip where do you come off giving me so little protein and sooooo much rice. don't humor me please be cheap all the way around. so needless to say I was not full so I got some green tea ice cream ummmm I guess we should call it green tea ice chips because that's what I got. I was highly upset about this place. I probably won't be back even though the drink was good it was $8 really, really come on!!!

  • Bobby T.

The staff here are nice, but overall what you get is at best mediocre chain hibachi. Rice and meat cut into small pieces and masked by the flavor of butter and sauces. If that is your thing, this is the place. However, I personally prefer quality over everything else. Pay the extra and go to a decent place. The sushi is ok but my no means the focus of this establishment.

Overpriced for what they offer. If you like lots and lots of rice and minimum amount appetizer, this is your place to go.

  • Arnie Sylvester P.

We had both good and quite bad hibachi experience at this restaurant . It all depends on the cook you get. Also, complimentary salad always comes precooked, so it's cold and tasteless and the soup that comes with the salad tastes like lukewarm water. They should just stop serving those because many people refuse to eat them. Sushi is not bad, but you can find similar or better options in the area. The decor is interesting. The service is not consistent: sometimes OK, sometimes sloppy. I might go back, but only after my last disappointing meal experience here wears off.

  • Sam C.

Love the food and the atmosphere plus the decor even though didn't think it would look great when saw it from the outside. The service was not that impressive. All staff there were not nice and friendly. The waiter who took our orders laughed at us when we ordered all the food which I don't know why and the food was slow. The restaurant doesn't have kids menu as well--we dinned in at the sushi section. When asked about kids menu, he looked at us surprisingly and yet again laughed at us. Over all, not impressive with the service even though I love the food there. Not sure if we will go back there again but might try the teppanyaki section.

I am a fan of Hibachi if its good. I frequent the Sakura in Fairfax and the one in Tysons(Vienna), and in fact also been to the one in Olney(however that one was not good). the one in Tysons and Fairfax is great. their show is pretty mucht he same thing everytime i go but that is not the reason i go there because the show they put on gets monotonous and boring especially if you go there alot. The food is good, tasty, and flavorful. I love their yum sauce which is supposed to be for seafood or chicken btu i use it for everything, their fried rice is great. Another reason why I love to go here is because their sushi is actually really good as well. So you can enjoy a roll or two while the Hibachi is being prepared. And lets not forget some good sake. they carry all kinds but I always get a Nigori which is a true unfiltered sake and tastes great but also gets to you :) Great place and still keep going and will continue to go. A way to get to 5 stars by me, change up the show, add something else, something with flare? Good job Sakura!

I came here to celebrate my son's birthday who was turning 3. Thank goodness they take reservations, because the teppenyaki table areas were almost packed around 5:30. The atmosphere was nice, very spacious and clean. Service was a bit slow. We waited awhile after soup salad was served. Perhaps, they were shortstaffed? Food was good and very plentiful. I always get scallops and filet. Love the seafood dipping sauce and can't get enough of their grilled veggies. My parents ordered the lobster and ny strip. They enjoyed their dinner except the extra dressing in their salads. Hubby got filet with chicken and cleaned his plate. My two sisters shared the filet with shrimp and loved their meal. We got extra fried rice, kudos to the chef! Preschooler son was disappointed about not having noodles available for dinner so he had their gyoza. As for entertainment, it was great!! Son loved the shrimp throwing, onion volcono, fire flame, egg in hat trick and choo choo train. Forget the chef guy's name, he was wonderful, funny and made my son very happy. Overall, we had a blast and will be back..now sister wants teppenyaki for her bday!!

So...my coworkers and I pretty much go to Sakura at least once a week when we're down in Tysons. We've also tried most of the rolls on the menu at this point. This is what we order: The usual: salad, edamame, beer Rolls we like: sakura triangle roll, spider roll, hawaii roll, the shrimp tempura roll, the green mussel appetizer, shu mai, gyoza, spicy tuna roll, toro roll Roll we tried but not a fan of: batman roll

Looks can be deceiving, I thought that this was a tiny little place from the outside, but when I got inside, WOW! it's clean, and very very large. The sushi bar up front when you walk in is nice and clean, and the back where the hibachi tables are was very nice. 4 people on each side of the table was a wee bit crowded, but lunch was tasty! Each server was polite and we had a great time. The lunch specials were reasonable and they made substitutions without complaint.

I actually do enjoy going to Sakura. I love hibachi. I wish I knew one of the hibachi chefs name because he has got to be the best on there! I know that if you get chicken liver as your appetizer he makes jokes saying that it's good Viagra. Haha. I love the appetizer they give you. The ice berg lettuce salad with the ginger dressing and the soup. I'm not sure what kind of soup it is, but it tastes pretty fresh. I usually get their vegetable salmon or chicken entrée. I actually do enjoy all three of them. I have tried their scallop, but it was actually not that great. I could tell that the scallop was not fresh. It was salty. I could not even finish one. It was the worst experience I ever had at Sakura and I have been there about 30+ times. I love their yumyum sauce. The orange colored one. My boyfriend always asks for two of those and not the brown ginger one. I think their friend rice is pretty good to. Sometimes depending on the chef the friend rice can taste a bit weird. So, they hostess there I want to smack. I always see the same one all the time and whenever I see her she walks away from her stand and when my boyfriend and I are leaving she never says anything. She doesn't even smile nor looks happy. She doesn't even greet me ever! If I was her manager I would've fired her. Besides the hibachi chefs the staff sucks. None of the servers even smile. They are Asian and rude. But than again what can you expect from a restaurant that hires Asian workers that can't even speak English well.

Hawaii roll is excellent. Beef teriyaki was absolutely horrible. Some crazy-ass clear glaze covering the most bland tasting beef. Yuck. Good service.

This place is just like Benihana, except Korean owned. The food was decent, the place is a little bit noisy though. Facilities are nice. The bartender was very clueless though. I asked for a Mimosa and she asked me what it was. I told her - champagne and orange juice - and she handed me an empty cup, a glass of orange juice, and a small bottle of champagne. Make your own drink? I guess it was okay though, since it was three times the volume of one mimosa.

First visit with a group of fun strangers (everyone scream "Flaming tower of onion") and thorough enjoyed myself. It is pricey as several others mentioned, but I expected that. I did find $9 for a cheap beer a bit much, but didn't mind since I wasnt the one who ordered it! To defend the price, it was A LOT of food. You usually get one salmon steak and little side for near the price, but there were two nice sized salmon, tons of fresh veggies (my fave!) and rice and mushrooms and ... I mean, the chef kept flipping food on to my plate! The atmosphere was fun and light hearted and a bit loud as the I ache tables were full of screaming, laughing people just letting their hair down a bit. Luckily no one got too their hair too close to the flaming tower of onion! The food was good, plentiful and a great atmosphere, plus service was good (though the 2nd table in our group never got dessert menu, major $$ faux pas). Last point on the food. I thought my salmon was overlooked upon first glance as it was burnt looking on the outside. However, it was so moist and perfectly cooked inside and I discovered that salmon is better with an outer crunch! Good job Sakura. I will definitely revisit.

Friends and I went here for my partner's birthday last night. Have been to this kind of place before but so far, this has been the best by far. The hostess was very friendly and apologized profusely for not being able to seat us at 7pm as requested, because they only had 3 chefs on board for the evening. We were seated at 7:30 in a fairly full dining room, and while they only had 3 chefs, this was not apparent as we never had to wait long for anything. Food was very tasty, from the soup, to the salad, to the main course. I had the lobster and shrimp, others had filet mignon and chicken, etc. The only food that got wasted was the food the guests missed when the chef hurled it at our mouths. I caught mine though! They also were nice enough to store our ice cream cake in their freezer and bring it out to us after dinner. Very friendly and knowledgeable staff.

This place is always a fun time, I love the ginger dressing they use on the salad. I cant comment on the sushi, I have never bought it. I come for the hibachi grill action. I do find it amusing when a Latino gentleman is cooking the food though. The fried rice is delicious and the dipping sauces really enhance your meal. It can be a bit pricey so this isnt really a place I come to alot.

What a fun dinner atmosphere. I came here with a group for dinner - we did all get a bit lost since none of us were from around the area. The decor was tasteful (you know how some Asian places can look tacky Asian - Sakura luckily bypassed that). Service was really friendly and our hibachi chef was a blast. You have to love the drinks for the fact that you get to bring home the neat sculpture cups. There was so much food - the tebanyaki dinner came with a mini appetizer of either grilled shrimp, beef liver, or sauteed mushrooms. They even had the Japanese yum-yum sauce, too! We also received a large serving of fried rice in addition to our choice of entree. I had the scallops and fillet which both were deliciously made. Our hibachi chef also went around the whole table and flung small pieces of chicken into our mouths - surprisingly, he didn't give up on anyone. Overall, a fun dinner with friends and I'd love to come back again!

This is a fun spot if you like the teppanyaki style of Japanese cuisine. It is more performance art than anything else. They grill uninspired cuts of chicken, beef, and shrimp. Some vegetables and rice complete the meal, but the best part is how they prepare the food over a steel grill in front of you. Watch out for the onion volcano!

I went here for lunch and got the "Sushi Lunch" for $11. It came with a salad, miso soup, and an assortment of maki and nigiri sushi-- I enjoyed all of it. I was impressed by the decor--I was definitely not expecting the inside to look so nice or large when I was about to enter the restaurant. It was a little dark but enjoyable nonetheless. It seems like a great place to go on your lunch break if you work locally, and it is probably a great choice for dinner as well.

I had a very satisfying sushi lunch here today. Sakura is a local chain that I've never heard of before but I can see why they keep sprouting up all over VA and MD. They have sushi lunch specials for $10-11 which includes miso, salad and assorted sushi. They also have bento-style specials with miso, salad, gyoza, 3 nigiri, 3 cali roll and your choice of entree either shrimp and veggie tempura, beef teriyaki, etc for $9-11. I opted for the No Raw Sushi lunch which included 6 cali roll and 6 assorted nigiri. It was soooo good. Generous portions of fresh fish - the length of the fish was double that of the rice. The cali rolls were wrapped in the thinnest layer of rice. My co-workers went to town so I helped them out. They had edamame, avocado salad w/ miso dressing (delish!!!), salmon, tuna, yellowtail, eel, spider roll, rainbow roll and some other roll with eel in it. I also ended the meal with vanilla and green tea mochi! The decor is very nice - dark wood everywhere. If you dine for sushi look up at the ceiling, there's a really neat display of japanese print fabrics across the ceiling. There's hibachi in the back too.

The location is great its in Tysons Corner. The place is very clean and the service is excellent. The food is really good but its a little pricey. I usually get the shrimp and steak with vegetables and rice. Also, I liked the sashimi its really good. The place has lots of room, so that is always helpful if your a large party. Sometimes there are long waits, but its worth it.

We went looking for a fun date place ~ and this definitely fit the bill. Service was good, and the "show" the hibachi chef put on was fun. The food was good for the price! I'd definitely go back on a date, and can even see it being a fun place to take my teenagers for a special occasion.

I used to really like this place (this location particular), but the last two times I went there for sushi, I got the crappiest service, ever. The waitress is either on drugs or has a very severe case of ADD. I won't be going back there.

Hibachi----- I dont do sushi so I cant comment on that part. I was pleasantly surprised when I walked in to the restaurant and it was not only clean and fresh smelling but updated and nice. Unfortunately due to all the fish flying around I have a hard time going to some of the older less well kept restaurants. We ordered Hibachi and got the normal show and decent service. The food was good and the servings were large. My only complaint was they had no fried gyoza!

Once again Yelpers have led me to a great restaurant! Went for teppanyaki this evening and the food was great. The atmosphere was a lot of fun, and several tables had full families with young children. The filet was $2 more than the steak, and the prices were reasonable for this type of cusine. Dinner included soup, salad, appetizer and entree (with veggies and rice). I would recommend reservations if you're going on a Friday or Saturday evening.

I went here for a late lunch for some colleagues after getting out of our meeting today. I was thoroughly disappointed with everything. We arrived at 1pm and they told us because it was so late the only thing available was the sushi menu and no Hibachi. This was fine with all of us as we wanted sushi anyways. We ordered and it took about 20-25 minutes for our food to come out which was strange because we were the only people in this place. We started to eat and began to notice that our waitress would come by ever 2-5 minutes asking how everything was and if we wanted anything else we need to tell her now as the kitchen was closing down. We kindly said no and she went away and next thing we know she shows up with the bill already. Bare in mind I was on probably my 3 or 4 piece of sushi. We left the check there and continued to eat our food when 5 minutes later she came by and looked to see if we had paid the bill yet. When she noticed we hadn't put anything inside she asked if we could pay now so they can close everything up. We obliged and continued eating our food. At 2pm she came over and had the audacity to ask if we could hurry up as the restaurant is closed now. This was the first time a restaurant has ever asked me if I could hurry up since the restaurant was closing. I don't think I will ever be returning to this Sakura again! Maybe to another location but definitely not this one. The sushi was mediocre at best. Not like it was the best sushi in town where even then I don't think they would've had the right to rush us like that.

I had never experienced super fancy trick-laden teppanyaki or "hibachi" so I was excited to try it out when we went here for a friend's birthday! I did enjoy the theatrics - our server was very skillful and did some fun egg tossing. However, I thought it was rather pricey for the food and the food wasn't tasty at all. Some of my friends decided to splurge and get the "surf and turf," but the meat was overcooked and it seemed like a waste of good lobster and steak. Even the fried rice was so-so. If you like seeing the show, I suppose Sakura is a nice place to go, but don't get your hopes up for the food. I think I would have enjoyed it more if I knew that the food wasn't going to be great.

I've been here a few times - always for the hibachi grill. Its a bit expensive, but its worth the price, especially if you have a good chef. Regardless of the skill of the chef, the food is always really good and plentiful. I never came close to finishing once. Everything is good... the rice, the vegetables, the meats, the sauces, etc. If you feel like going all out, the shrimp and scallops are amazing. In most cases, the chefs are very skilled and very friendly. They'll crack jokes and put on a good show. However, in some cases, you'll get one that is new, doesn't do anything fancy, and barely talks.... in which case, the price is kinda not justified. I guess its the luck of the draw. Oh, also, I'm not sure if they have it anymore, but they had a banana tempura desert that was amazing.

I always enjoy going to Hibachi style restaurants. However, Sakura is a bit pricey. We had to wait for a long time - about 40 minutes, even with reservation. The food quality was fair, service was extremely slow; but the house famous "yum yum sauce" was indeed excellent.

I am not sure about their sushi and all that stuff, but I love the hibachi! Entertaining show, and great tempura, steak, and fried rice. I would go there in a group of 3+, because I feel weird sitting with a bunch of strangers.

Been here at least 4-5 times at my hubby's request. I do it for him and thinking my kids might be entertained. Personally, I like quiet meals where I don't have to watch performances or be part of one (they throw shrimp or chicken & u have to catch it with your mouth - part of the show). Usually get the hibachi where you choose your protein and the chef and comes over, cooks and performs. For the most part, ok. But the first two times, too heavy on the salt on both the shrimp and chicken. Now I ask them to ease up on the salt before the show. Hubby usually gets the filet mignon/shrimp combo. Beef is good. Comes with a salad and miso soup (like the salad dressing). Little kids will either love the performance or run screaming. Both my kids (as toddlers) took off running from the table at the sight of a few flames. Hilarious. You can't really mess the food up on the hibachi. It's just sauteed protein and veggies and if you chose, fried rice seasoned with their sauce and egg. They giving you multiple dipping sauces for your protein. Having been to too MANY of these places, they almost never have an Asian chef/performer so it's kind of funny when a guy comes out and says, "Hello, I'm Raul/Jose/or Raj, and I'll be your chef tonite" and do the Iron Chef bow. Kudos either way for being able to do the job done. It comes out to about $50-$60 for two adult hibachi meals - without alcohol. I had the lunch special yesterday. Option of sushi or kitchen items. Got the bento box because it comes with sushi. Just the sushi special where you get two roll choices (total of 12 small pieces) is $11. Pretty basic choices like spicy tuna and california roll. My husband got the tempura bento with 3 fish sushi and 3 california rolls, a veggie croquet (mashed potato breaded patty with mixed veggies), and huge portion of white rice. Came with salad and miso soup. I had the salmon teriyaki with same sides as my hubby's, Very thin small piece of salmon. It had a sticky teriyaki sauce that had the consistency/color of pancake syrup. Not my favorite. Taste was sweet with tinge of soy. But after the meal still very thirsty so lead me to believe it was heavily salted. The sushi consisted of a white fish, salmon, and a pieace of imitation crab meat on rice. My favorite part of the meal was the soup and salad. Service was ok but they were quicker with the check rather than the meal service. Both our meals were $12 ea. Won't be coming back here for lunch. Just not too good. Would rather just have a good sandwich.

Food is very delicious but be prepared to spend a lot. They have a modern Japanese atmosphere thats really relaxing. They have 3 sections, the sushi bar, the bar, and the Hibachi area...it's all one big area, but they're far enough away from each other that you can have some peace and quiet when you're just trying to relax.
