Best food I've had in Staunton. Meat and seafood were cooked to perfectly, well worth the wait. The kitchen was slow, but the place was packed on a Saturday night. Loved the bread and the blueberry butter! The ice cream at the end was a nice touch. Would have went 5 stars but the waiter didn't seem to care about us, during the 50 minute wait for food didn't once say how are you folks doing or can I get you anything else while you wait. Still, great place with great food.

The prime rib was outstanding. Service was very good and the jazz perfectly relaxing after a long day.

Just randomly chose this restaurant after stopping at the local KOA for one night. It was one of our best decisions. My husband had the center-cut pork chops, and he commented they were the best he had ever had. They were thick and generous in size, plus tender and juicy, as well as flavorful. I had the 10 oz prime rib, which was a very generous portion, cooked to perfection, tender and juicy. Also, we both had a baked potato, which was very creamy. This will definitely go on our list as "best place to eat". Too bad we live 4 hrs away. Don't think about it any longer....go for it!

After planning an impromptu trip to the mountains, I'm glad without planning we found such a wonderful location for dinner. In the basement of a historic brick building, this ended up being the perfect selection after a long day of traveling. It fits into the Staunton surroundings perfectly. Excellent beer and wine selection. Our server explained to us that the owner was a huge fan of Virginia wines (trust me, the list is expansive). Unfortunately no Virginia beer is listed on the menu but plenty of substitutions. Mill Street Grill had excellent service, the waiter we had was friendly and extremely knowledgeable about the menu and restaurant. The menu was expansive with plenty to offer. We didn't get the ribs but apparently they are a staple at the restaurant. (As the billboards in town would lead you to believe, as well as the waiter.) The waiter suggested the chicken satay, which was very nice with a Thai peanut sauce and rice that complimented it perfectly. I ended up getting a vegetable dish cooked in a skillet with monterey jack and cheddar. That was filling and enough to catch up after a long day of traveling. I had a friend who ended up ordering their French dip sandwich, which I tried and was absolutely phenomonal. We got sides of fried green tomatoes, they were a little on the greasy side but delicious nonetheless. You got what you paid for at this place, and I would have gone back the next day if other plans weren't scheduled. Would return next time I'm around Staunton.

This place is an absolute MUST when in Staunton or passing through Staunton. I've been here a number of times and the food is ALWAYS good and the atmosphere is awesome. My favorite is the prime rib, it literally melts in your mouth. The complimentary bread is always hot, soft, and delicious. They also make a different flavored butter everyday for the bread, and I love the unique flavors they create. The complimentary peppermint ice cream at the end of the meal is wonderful, so refreshing. The service is always friendly too. Seriously, if you have the opportunity to eat here and pass it up, then you're crazy.

Yelp is such a wonderful resource. We were traveling from NC to DC and used it to find a gluten-free dinner option. Wow. We were blown away! A fried seafood platter, gluten-free? ? Unheard of. The baby back ribs were enough for my teenaged sons and I to split three ways, along with some appetizers. They were phenomenal! ! Finished the meal with complimentary peppermint ice cream! ? Almost forgot. .. Guinness on tap. Huge wine list. Oysters. Friendly service and a manager that checked on us twice. It's also in a very cool part of Staunton next to other historic buildings. Thanks again, yelp and yelpers!!!

Very good as usual. We come to Staunton about once a year to enjoy the area and visit relatives. Mill Street now tops our list for family dinners. Ribs always good (half rack is plenty). Salad is a highlight and I love the orange poppy seed dressing. Homemade bread and flavored butter is good enough to fight over. Skip dessert and have the complimentary peppermint ice cream instead. Beware, the wait can be an hour on many weekends. The area hotels can be full depending on what's happening at the area universities and things like fall foliage peak times.

Well, 2 out of 3 of us ate french toast. It was a Sunday early afternoon, so brunch was available. The french toast was like no other I had tasted, not in a good way. I had the Monte Cristo and the little guy had kids french toast. Neither of us enjoyed it. Hubby had a burger and thought it was delightful. Service was friendly. I think if we had chosen different items it would have been a 4 star experience.

Super impressed with this restaurant. The food was great, their wine list was impressive, great beers on tap, and the location is awesome. A mix of brick and wood, although a bit crowded, the ambiance was great. They had my favorite beer of all time on tap (Blonde Hunny by Wild Wolfe). The tri-colored bread with flavored butter was delicious. The crab dip and homemade pita chips were to die for. The prim rib sandwich was good but nothing special. Overall the menu was pretty standard and nothing new or exciting but they execute it well. The service was great and the manager was easily visible. Loved the complimentary ice cream. Overall a great experience here

One word : FANTABULOUS! It's been a while since we've been at Mill Street because our last visit left much to be desired! This time, they blew our flip flops off! From the Raspberry butter for homemade bread, to the fresh salad, to the Mediterranean pasta dish, you just couldn't call it anything, but perfection in a table!
(5)Kojo B.
Initially when we arrived we were skeptical about the place. Between the illuminated window art and the dark dining room, we were not sure what to expect. It looked like lit up version of "applebees". The only reason I gave 3 stars was because of the friendly and attentive server, complementary peppermint ice cream, and nice drink menu. The food was average, salty and very oily. We won't come back.
(3)Patrick F.
Mill Street Grill is one of the best places to eat in NC, my wife and I really enjoyed our experienced. The beers were amazing especially the "Purple Haze", and I the ribs were excellent. The ribs are perfectly made to the point the meat just falls off the bone. My wife and I will come back again when we are in Staunton, VA. Thanks for the suggestion Yelp.
(5)David W.
Service was excellent, had the duck and fried green tomatoes and both were top notch cooked to perfection. Salad dressing was best I've had and the price was very fair for the caliber and quality of the food
(5)Christine D.
Meal was fantastic! Nice they had a wonderful gluten-free menu to accommodate special needs. Ribs are amazing, fell off the bone. Lee did a great job as our server, so pleasant! The peppermint ice cream was the perfect ending to the meal.
(5)Dan D.
Been there several times and the food is always excellent. The hardest thing to decide is what to have. Always a great selection on the specials.
(5)Ashley H.
Service was amazing. Lia was super informative and had a lovely sense of humor. We went with her suggestions of prime rib and baby back ribs. The food was phenomenal! There is homemade bread with homemade flavor butter as a little pre-dinner snack. The prime rib was tender and flavorful and the ribs were fall off the bone. The dinner was followed by complimentary peppermint ice cream. If we pass through here on our travels again, we will definitely return!
(5)Susan V.
Mill Street Grill is a wonderful restaurant. The food is always good--and that's not easy to do! The service is friendly and the atmosphere lively. I highly recommend it.
(4)Johnathan S.
This joint was absolutely remarkable. It came highly referred by locals and it definitely lived up to the referrals. We had Ribs and Chicken, and the baby backs were some of the best I've ever put in my mouth. We followed dinner with Key Lime pie and coffee and of course some pallet cleansing peppermint ice cream. We will definitely be back here!
(4)Diane Maggie M.
I've eaten here 3 or 4 times now. Service is sketchy. Tonight it was seriously slow. But I had the half rack baby back ribs and they were really good. Cole slaw was disappointing, too much vinegar. I know the economics of using vinegar to preserve a big batch, but really it's so much better to go high quality small batch. In the past I have tried their Italian style offerings, but really that's silly. I am starting to believe you should stick with a restaurant's specialty. I think that's why I am so happy with the ribs.
(3)B Y.
I brought my wife here for the first time on 2/13/15 and was blown away by the service (Leah) and by the amazing food. They were getting ready for Fat Tuesday and had decorated the place in a Mardi Gras theme and had a special Cajun themed menu. We got the Cajun frog legs, stuffed mushrooms, bacon cheeseburger and the artichoke chicken. Everything was amazing and our server Leah was so good, that we came back the next night to try their famous ribs. They were the best ribs I've ever had. I can't wait to come back and let our kids try their awesome food.
(5)Anna B.
I've been coming here with my Dad for at least the last 10 years and Mill Street has always been great. The building has an interesting history and cool atmosphere. The ribs are always delicious and they always do a great steak. Sunday brunch is a favorite too!
(5)Deena R.
Yummy Sunday brunch with generous portions. We both ordered "new" items off the regular menu: Tillapia and Angelhair Pasta, and a tuna wrap with sesame dipping sauce and a funky name (can't remember it, sorry). Waitress was attentive, curious and timely. Kept our water filled and asked if the beer was OK when she saw that my husband had only taken a sip (we hadn't eaten anything yet and it take out of the tap super cold and needed to warm up a bit). Then the giant trio of rolls came out (white, wheat, and brown), YUM! The butter of the day was honey butter, a favorite of mine. Tiny remikins of freezerbunt pepermit ice cream were a nice touch, but not the tastiest thing. Oh well. We were too full (after asking for a to-go box for 1/3 of my fish and 1/2 my pasta) to eat any more anyhow.
(4)Amanda M.
The quality of food here has really gone downhill over the years in my experience. During my last time here, I was shocked at the lack of quality and attention shown towards the food. I ordered duck that was terribly overcooked and not very flavorful. Furthermore, there didn't seem to be even an attempt to plate the food in a respectable fashion, but instead it seemed they just plopped the different items on the plate - something I would expect at a diner, but not at a restaurant of this caliber. Sadly, I think this place is largely running off its reputation at this point, and the food no longer matches the reputation or the price.
(2)Phil P.
Our business group decided to dine together. 16 of us. Bridget did a terrific job taking care of our orders. I ordered the full rack of beef ribs. The meat was falling off the bones, was soft, buttery and with a full flavor from a delicious broth. The sauce dabbed across the ribs was complementary not overwhelming with added to the savory flavor. The texture was perfect, the presentation astounding. A must for anyone searching for the perfect rib.
(5)Jeff K.
I have enjoyed mill street for many years. The food is always great and service is top shelf. I use to deliver food for Sysco and had them on my route many years ago. They always checked the food and produce for quality and they always had the cleanest kitchen in town. If your passing through and can only try one restaurant I suggest you try mill street.
(5)Judy O.
This restaurant has fantastic food! My husband had the ribs and they were fall off the bone good. I had the 10 oz sirloin that was very tender. If you get a chance to eat here go!
(4)Ashley S.
We came here around 7 PM after a long drive on our road trip. We tried the Appetizer Sample, which included Pepper Jack Cheese Sticks (tasty, but a little too much cheese -- could have been cut thinner), Oysters Rockefellar (too greasy), Chicken Satay (moist chicken with a tasty curried peanut sauce), and Stuffed Artichoke Hearts (too much batter but served with an awesome honey mustard sauce). I had the Chicken & Shrimp Brasica, which was flavorful, but I wish the chicken and veggies were seared or roasted or something to develop the flavor. My friend enjoyed his 10 oz sirloin. The rainbow mint ice cream at the end of the meal was a nice surprise. It had flecks of crushed candy canes and was sweet and refreshing. My only complaint is that our server seemed bored and almost dismissive (until the end of the meal while we were writing tips and signing receipts). Two days later, I also noticed that my credit card was charged twice, but I called the restaurant, and the owner was very friendly and sorted it out.

Perfect! After traveling all day I checked into the hotel across from The Mill Street and decided to go there for dinner. Traveling alone I sit at the bar. First thing I notice is a NICE selection of GREAT beers. Prompt service led me to my beer to get me over the long day. Opening the menu I get a history of the place (worth reading) followed by a page of today's specials. Tough decision between the Mediterranean Chilean Sea Bass, Pan Seared Whole Red Snapper and the Osso Buco. There were many other daily specials including apps. Went with the Osso. Timing of beer, salad and entree was spot on. Osso was Osso delicious as was the risotto that come with it. This place is a must try if in the area.

It's like a slower, more expensive Ruby Tuesday's. if you're lucky.

Mill Street Grill was an accidental choice for us as we meandered around I-81 from Harrisonburg looking for somewhere to eat. It's a classic southern restaurant you don't see too often anymore. The menu is gigantic, and they also offer a wide array of daily specials. I had the Chicken Cordon Bleu, which was a steal at $17.95. It was great. Well prepared with a nice cheese sauce in addition to the cheese stuffing. It came with fried green tomatoes, which I never had, but found found to my liking. My wife and son had the baby back ribs. My wife gave me a couple of bones worth to try. It was fall off the bone and had a good flavor. My wife thought they were a bit overcooked. I found the complimentary rolls of high quality. They were served with pumpkin butter. The Caesar salad that came with my dinner was satisfying as well. A nice touch was an on-the-house serving of ice cream. You get a lot of food for under $20 per head. It's a nice place with good food, served up with a lot of history. I commented to my son that this is what restaurants were like in the early 1960s (without the cigarette smoke).

I had what will be the first of many meals today at Mill Street Grill. We arrived and, though the restaurant was packed, were seated within five minutes. The environment was dark and cozy and I appreciated that they had retained a lot of the architectural details of the old mill building in which the restaurant sits. I mentioned to the server that I was gluten free and was immediately presented with a separate and extensive menu. She also mentioned to ask if there was anything I didn't see because the chef could modify most dishes. We were offered chips and salsa as a sub for the bread basket. We selected the crab dip as our appetizer and I ordered a half rack of their famous ribs as my entree. Everything lived up to the hype I read in the reviews. The dip was piping hot and delicious while the ribs fell of the bone the minute you picked the up. The rub and sauce combo were excellent. The owner came over to check on us and took the time to explain their journey with providing gluten free dining options and offered additional tips on items we should try in the future. Cozy environment, excellent service and great food. This place is the full package. I can't wait to go back!

This place is near our hotel and it was fine. The food was okay we enjoyed the ribs & the prime rib. The place is a beautiful old mill. At the beggining I felt a bit claustrophobic , but It was really ok Service was really good. Great menu of beers and wine
(4)Matt B.
All I can say is WOW!! I had the Beef and Baby Back rib combo plate. They fell off of the bone. I travel all over the country and honestly have never tasted ribs this good. Additionally, they serve table bread with differs butters daily. It was awesome. To top it off they give ice cream comp. needless to say I would stop here anytime I'm in the area.
(5)Pam S.
Food was good but service and atmosphere left something to be desired. The dining area was very noisy and the server was rude. She actually told me she was too busy busing tables to get our check. We waited about 15 min after our dinner just to get the check. Was not responsive to us during dinner. I will not go back, food was not good enough to make up for poor service.

Fabulous! We were just visiting from out of town and came across this place. Food: 4.5 stars I ordered the Baby Back Ribs and my husband ordered the cajun chicken alfredo. The bread they brought out at the beginning was sooooooo good. The ice cream at the end was also a very nice touch. Ambience: 4.5 stars We were seated back by the stain glass windows. I loved that it was a little kitchy but very true to itself. Service: the busers and owner were very hospitible. Our server was a little awkward, but he was not in our face or neglectful. I'd definitely recommend this place to anyone!
(5)Trip F.
This is a place that is truly professionally managed. the menu is huge, so there is something for the entire family. The owner is always there and there is usually a line to get in. But, the bar is a good place to wait because you will meet some wonderful local folks.
(4)Michelle M.
I've only been here once, but must give credit when credit is due!! I realize most give accolades here based on the ribs. Believe me, I plan on exploring the ribs too, but not this trip. The husband and I were in Staunton on business, and stayed at the Stonewall Jackson, so happened to walk across the street after a recommendation from the front desk. It was really crowded for a Thursday night, but the wait wasn't too bad ( later found out, it was the start of Parents Weekend at Mary Baldwin). We were seated and immediately greeted by a wonderful waitress (regret that I cannot remember her name now, as she was very much a part of this good experience). Drinks were obtained quickly, orders were placed, then this heavenly little trio of fresh made bread with honey butter was presented. Wow, so yummy, really loved the German Seeded dark bread, so good. Would love to have this as a sandwich bread!! We were in the mood for sandwiches, and stuck to that, not knowing their menu. The specials looked great, and the prime rib and Ribs that were being served, looked awesome too. However, we stuck to the sandwich route, and we were not disappointed!! I ordered the Mill St. burger with Colby/Jack cheese. HOLY LORD, this is truly BURGER NIRVANA!! Perfectly cooked burger ( menu states burger is made from prime rib and fillet minion and I believe it!!). Perfectly grilled bun, fresh leaf lettuce, ripe tomato, and red onion. It was the most amazing burger I've ever had in my 46 years!! Not fussy, just simple quality ingredients, perfectly seasoned and grilled!! Plus did I mention that this 1/3lb masterpiece with the side of your choice ( I had batter dipped fries) is only $8.99!! Hubby had the prime rib sandwich made like a French Dip!! He also had fries. It was tender, delicious, well seasoned and also a steal a $9.99. I normally can only eat about 1/2 of a burger that size and I ate every morsel!! Then, just when you think it's all said and done they bring you a wonderful little dish of the most delicious peppermint ice cream. It's old fashioned REAL peppermint ice cream!! We had a SPECTACULAR MEAL, with homemade bread to start, then the perfect little sweet treat of ice cream to finish, and it was under $25.00!!! Simply MIND BLOWING!! Will travel back here from Richmond, just for the burger alone!! Can't wait to come back and try the RIBS!!!!
(5)Susan M.
My first review ever! Fantastic food from soup to steak, beautiful ambiance, and excellent service (thank you Billy!). We have travelled extensively and eat out quite often, and it is rare to have this kind of Consistency in a meal from start to finish (on Monday night no less). Highly recommend.
(5)Freyja B.
Good food, huge portions, I've eaten here twice, one time the food was very good, the other a little indifferent. Very busy on weekends, casual atmosphere, and typical regional menu. Portions a little too big, lots of fleshing out the plate with starches and veggies which seems to have been held in a steam tray for quite some time. 'Homestyle' food mainly, with a few more novel ingredients.
(3)B C.
We enjoyed ourselves immensely. Just one suggestion - my brother ordered a dish that turned out to be so "heated" by spices that he was not able to touch most of it. Several of us at the table tested it and even the hot pepper loving person with us thought that it was pretty spicy. We encouraged my brother to alert the waiter. That perhaps a mistake had been made in the kitchen. But he is not one of those folks who complain and would have been mortified if one of us brought it to our waiter's attention. I did email the restaurant and suggested that perhaps they might want to make a note that the dish was pretty hot and spicy. Nowhere in the description was there any mention of the "heat" that was inherent in the recipe. That would be my suggestion to the folks at the Mill Street Grill. Just a warning of sorts on the menu that the dish is indeed very spicy.
(4)Tiffany M.
Staunton is a wonderful, mysterious mountain town with much history and I was seeking out a restaurant that was representative of this. I chose to go to Mill St. Grill because of the location and beautiful historic presence it has downtown. Upon arrival, from the outside, it is beautiful. Inside I quickly observed this was a busy place and was full of regulars. The decor inside is tacky, they seem to be going for this cliche New Orleans vibe...but it is outdated and unconvincing. The restaurant was huge, and so was the menu and beer and wine list. The bread and fresh garlic herb butter they give you once seated was delightful. The stuffed artichokes were delicious, crab dip was mediocre, and our entree was good - not great. We ordered from the specials, an eggplant boat stuffed with seafood. Scallops were tastey, however the dish was overloaded with cheese and "creole" sauce, so the fried eggplant boat was soggy. I enjoyed my dinner but was mostly impressed by the building itself. A decor revamp is desperately needed and perhaps a smaller menu would allow a better focus on the authenticity of the dishes. Also they were playing some sort of 90's alt rock mix, it wasn't too loud, it was just not something you want to hear while eating dinner...or probably ever.
(3)Robert E.
I could talk about the ribs but they speak for themselves. The Sunday brunch rocks. Get the eggs benedict or scrapple. The meal also ends with complimentary peppermint ice cream. You don't be disappointed.
(5)Ali N.
I came here based on the reviews of this app., and I can tell you that I was not disappointed at all. I has the Mahi Mahi and it was light fluffy and very delicious. There bread and butter before the meal is addictive and the peppermint ice cream afterwards is addictive too. I may have to make one more trip here before I leave.
(5)Allison B.
What a great family friendly option! Food was very good, delivered quickly, with great service! Beware-portions are big!
(4)Luke B.
Nice meal for the price, not much variety on the menu. Waiters were friendly enough and the fresh bread and sorbet are lovely little extras that make it worth a visit. All in all a great little spot for dinner.
(4)Andrew T.
I'm back and forth here. I think I need to eat again and maybe try some BBQ, but for now this is hovering between 3 and 4 stars. We needed a place to decompress on a Friday night, and this was it. After starting with their kind of Mediterranean baked goat cheese, I ended up with the crab cakes. The goat cheese was good - very nice serving with some roasted tomato and peppers, plus kalamata olives. I love goat cheese, and so does my client, so this was worth having. They even brought us more bread when there was cheese left. My crab cakes were quite good - lots of nice lump crab meat, very little filler, and fried green tomatoes as an available side! The crab was sweet and tasty with some red pepper for texture and flavor, and it's been a long time since I've had fried green tomatoes, which were in a nice cornmeal batter, weren't over salted and had nice tart tomato. The complimentary peppermint ice cream was a nice touch, although it did dissuade us from actually ordering dessert...maybe they should rethink that? One comment on the ribs. They claim in the menu that some Kansas City rib expert came in and pronounced them to be excellent. My personal taste in ribs means that an endorsement from someone from Kansas City is really a pretty big strike against them. However, others who ate there separately said they were good. It sounds like they're grilled/baked, not smoked...I just dunno. Maybe if I make my way back, I'll take the risk. Unfair of me to pass judgement without eating them first...but...I've been to Memphis, and seen the light. Our server was very friendly, accommodating extra late arrivals at our table even though closing time was approaching and joking along with us. They have an impressively broad menu, so I look forward to coming back and seeing if things continue to be good.
(3)Michael R.
Best steaks around! Great atmosphere as well. If in Staunton, go here. Parking at the parking garage across the street.
(4)T B.
Mill Street Grill spectacular food and service. We come here for any special occasion. Fabulous options on the daily specials! Billy is the best server anywhere.
(5)Lisa F.
One of the most delicious black bean burgers ever! Big, thick, covered in cheese and guacamole. Yum! I brought my visiting in-laws for dinner. They loved their food and the amazing live jazz band playing tonight. Everyone loved the fresh bread, entrees and ice cream. My in-laws both had the cajun chicken fettuccine and said it was delicious. I had my the bean burger and mill street salad. The salad was fresh and had a great variety of veggies and sliced almonds. If they made a larger version of the salad I would have been happy with just that. The black bean burger is huge and delicious, but super messy so use that napkin wisely. My father-in-laws comment to me was, "What a great night. I'd come back every Wednesday night for great jazz and delicious food if I didn't live 6 states away."
(4)Jeffrey S.
Since my initial visit I have had a change of heart! This place has an amazing brunch and all the food and service has been exceptional!
(5)Brian U.
Had a late lunch, so just did sandwiches for dinner. Both of the prime rib sandwiches were fantastic and a good value considering what you got. The dinners we saw looked fantastic. The complimentary peppermint ice cream wasn't my thing, but Jaime loved it.
(4)Brad O.
My thoughts on Mill Street: Food: 5 Stars Service: 4.5 Stars Atmosphere: 3.5 Stars Beer Selection: 4.5 Stars These are in order of importance for me, but I couldn't quite give it a 5 star, mainly because the interior aesthetics of the place. It is a restaurant that is badly in need of cosmetic face lift, as their decor consists mostly of bead-board paneling stained a golden oak that feels like circa 1970 to me. I think the gorgeous old building could have been better utilized and the place could be more of a cozy feeling restaurant which would have made it a 5 to me. Food was fantastic. I had a two-rib style plate that has beef and St. Louis style pork ribs. Both rib types were so tender you could barely get the bones apart without losing the meat, which is perfect to my taste. The fried green tomato side was good not great. I had a salad with a hot bacon dressing that was fantastic, and my wife and I shared an appetizer of roasted goat cheese with tomatoes, olives and garlic that was delicious. My wife had Chilean sea bass over a bed of green in a nice garlicky sauce. They started us off with a nice pan bread with cinnamon raisin butter and finished with a complimentary peppermint ice cream that is a nice palate cleanser. The biggest issue I had was that I ate too much as I was not going to send back a plate that had anything left on it. The bartenders were pleasant as we had a drink while waiting for a table (10 mins on a Friday night at peak hour without a reservation which I thought was worth the wait). Our waitress was extremely attentive and on top of us. She did not overly engage us in conversation which is good or bad depending upon who you are, but I probably could have used a little more interaction. But we were not wanting for anything the whole time. They had about 7 beers on tap - the only downside was that there were no beers that I would consider more feminine that my wife would enjoy on tap (such as Blue Moon, or a hefeweizen or similar). But they had a nice bottle selection that you could find a beer you liked no matter your taste preference. I would definitely say this place is well suited for kids and family's. My wife and I were alone and it was not as quiet as I may have hoped but atmosphere was certainly friendly and easy to enjoy. If this was local for me I would be a regular.
(4)Christina I.
Great food and great service. We had the appetizer sampler since we couldn't decide-- fried artichoke hearts were AMAZING (the cheese was excellent) as was the curry dipping sauce (not sure which app this went with but I dipped my chicken satay in it). Bread that came out was warm and fresh, special apple butter sweet and perfect! For dinner I had the chicken avocado and bacon salad, I requested no cheese which accidentally was still put on but I picked it off because I'm not a stickler. Fiancé had the BBQ chicken and ribs... Ribs were out of this world and fell off the bone! Coleslaw also was a treat (yes I picked at his meal :) If you're a local OR visiting I highly recommend checking this place out. The onion rings also looked amazing on the table next to us. Bummed we didn't order those too!
(4)Adriane P.
The crab dip is delicious and can be gluten free. Awesome! The chips were flaky and light, and the oil that they were fried on was new, so you could taste the flavor without being heavy. The dip itself was HOT. I almost burn myself with it, it starts with a small burst of flavor that builds up quickly to finalize with a little spice. Which is great, the little spice opens up your taste buds for the next wave of flavor. The ambiance is inviting and the floors and restrooms are very clean. I was informed that Wednesday there is a blues band playing. Great place!

This place is so good, we ate here 2 nights straight in a row! The staff are super friendly and the food is Amazing! 1st visit- We arrived late at closing time (10pm) but they still allowed us to come in and order a full meal. We ordered fettachini with chicken & shrimp & mushrooms. It was marvelous! We received complimentary fresh from the oven "trifecta" bread -homemade trio of delicious bread with 'made from scratch'honey butter. Delicious! My hub & I split an order & it was gracious plenty! We also received complimentary peppermint icecream that was omg the best! Must go back to this place again!! 2nd visit- Babyback ribs- People around town had been telling us Go back for the RIBS!! Let me tell you, these were the best we have ever tasted! We will come back to Staunton just to eat here! Not only for the ribs but the Bread and the peppermint icecream and the wonderful staff that treats you like your family! MILL STREET IS THE BEST!

Mockingbird in Staunton closed, which was sad news for us, but we found a worthy replacement, a spot that's been open longer and knows how to get it right (as evidenced by the other reviews). Mill Street Grill is also an easy in, easy out, drive from the I-81 interchange in Staunton. As usual, we sat at the bar.....which was uncrowded but had a downhome feel, mainly due to the folks working there. Didn't have the ribs but I can vouch for the salmon; beautifully done, and like other spots in this trendy town, didn't break the bank. As others have mentioned, the complimentary peppermint ice cream (THE BEST, and most underrated, ice cream flavor, bar none) and "bread bowl" were great. One star docked due to the poor selection of Virginia brews. They had one from Starr Hill, but not one of the popular choices. MIA were Devil's Backbone, brewed 30 miles down the road in Lexington, and Blue Mountain. Lots of craft options from other states, however. Mockingbird will be missed but Mill Street Grill, and of course the Clocktower, will compensate just fine.

Almost four stars. The food was pretty good. The place is busy and LOUD. The waiter was very busy, almost too busy but he kept out drinks filled and was attentive. We went on a Saturday night at 8 so we expected a wait but it was only about 20 minutes. They were out of a number of entries and a couple of appetizers. I'd go back.

Place is low key, a bit dark, but the food was outstanding and served fast and piping hot. Fried buffalo wings, fresh bread with sweet potato butter and GREAT ribs - we tried all the pork and beef rib options - A rating for all of them. Mashed cauliflower for a side - yes please!

Good place with character....ribs were great! the bread they served was awesome! Garlic mashed potato was great! Mint ice cream dessert was good!

Awesome atmosphere, cool building, great staff, & top notch food. Came to Waynesboro for business & all anyone could talk about is this restaurant. Decided to give it a shot & was not disappointed. Lucked out on grabbing dinner during Wednesday Jazz night which was actually very entertaining. I thoroughly enjoyed the crab dip I had for an appetizer as well as the half rack of ribs with a chicken breast for dinner. If I'm ever back in the area, I would absolutely stop again!

My husband and I just left this awesome restaurant. Kristen, our waitress was great and don't even think about ordering anything other than the ribs. They were the best we have ever had. Don't miss the opportunity to visit here!

I've never experienced a restaurant so focused on customer needs -- menu includes gluten-free, vegan, lighter-side and regular entrees in quantity. As soon as I asked to see the gluten-free menu, the server (Wendy) immediately processed and stored that information. When she brought bread for the table, she brought me chips and salsa. When my daughter ordered the calamari appetizer, she asked if we wanted it GF -- and told us they'd make it with GF breading! What restaurant keeps GF breading on hand??! She was attentive, the food was served in a timely manner and hot, and the selection for diverse needs was incredible. That said, the chips -- while hot and freshly fried -- tasted a bit odd and the salsa was more tomato sauce than tomatoes and other salsa ingredients. The calamari had a bitter taste to the coating -- I almost wonder if the kitchen had overused or overheated the cooking oil. The meat itself was nice and tender, not rubbery and the sauce was interesting (in a good way, if you like spicy!) My daughter's stir fry was good but my steak had little flavor and wasn't tender. It wasn't overcooked at all though, which seems to be a rarity. The peppermint ice cream at the end was a very pleasant, and tasty, surprise! If I find myself in Staunton again I'll definitely give them another chance and try different items. I think maybe I just hit on the wrong things this time. Meanwhile, they get definite points for customer focus and Wendy was terrific. The setting, in an old flour mill, definitely added to the experience!

First time in Staunton VA and its an impressive little city. Mill St Grill is located in a acquaint, somewhat removed location. Service was very good and prompt. Food was pretty good. I had the baby back ribs with a loaded baked potato; they were perfectly cooked and the sauce was very tastey. My kids split a baked lasagne, which was ok; they liked it fine. My wife had an artichoke chicken dish; she was not especially impressed. Overall, the price, quality, location and service was pretty good.

This place thrives mostly on its long held reputation. I guess one should go here if they're interested in ribs or steak. We were not impressed. Supposedly, one of the best places in Staunton, we've been here a couple of times and the food was less than memorable. The service was very good and the food came out quickly. One plate was the shrimp & steak fajita. We have never had a "sweet" fajita, and the waitress informed us that it was the sauce marinade for the steak. The dish was not even half finished. I had the Mediterranean swordfish. This was okay, but the fish seemed to have been previously frozen and didn't have a lot of "good" fish taste....maybe on the border of being "fishy". One of the things that irked me from the beginning was that when looking at the micro brewed beers, I noticed that there were no local breweries represented. When questioned, I was informed that the owner had heard this before, but had something against the local brews. The atmosphere is dark. I don't think we'll be back for a while. For the upper end prices, one would expect bette

The ribs are amazing, the stuffed chicken breast is great, and the Fried Green Tomatoes make my mouth water. It's our go-to place whenever we are in Staunton!

Mill Street Grill is one of the best restaurants I have ever visited, regardless of price. The cuisine is absolutely delicious, the service is professional and efficient, and the wine list is second to none. One huge bonus is every Wednesday night - they have live jazz. Definitely a great date destination. My favorites are the prime rib (amazing with the horseradish sauce and au jus), and the incomparable, unbeatable, astounding ribs. People, I am telling you that humans have never tasted ribs this good. The meat is tender as anything I have ever eaten, but the sauce is the part that will blow your mind. I'm talking about flavor that will give your tongue an orgasm!!! If it sounds like I'm going overboard here, I plead guilty. I confess, I have been coming here since 2006 and *loving every minute of it*. I have never had a bad meal here, and the friends we have invited to join us have also been very impressed with the quality of this gourmet restaurant. The prices are surprisingly low, and they even bring you a delightful ice cream dessert - complimentary. In addition to the favorites mentioned above, I have enjoyed some seafood dishes here as well as some really neat specials that were more exotic, such as the quail. Another neat bonus is the free bread they bring out before every meal - a really interesting pot with three varieties *and* a rotating selection of exotic butters (blueberry, garlic & herb, and bananna chocolate chip are some of my favorites). So that's my assessment of Mill Street Grill, a true hidden gem. I hope you enjoy it as much as I have, and if you ever come in, look for me!!!

Really good food! Great service too- Todd was the best!

Yes it is in a cool historic building. But really, the place just feels like it is getting dated and worn out. The menus were even falling apart. There's a difference between deliberately dated and just worn out. Genuine BBQ meat lovers, pass on their offerings. I went with the Flintstone plate which samples most of their meats. Ribs (pork and beef) were fall off the bone OVER done like they were being rendered down for by products or something. Great ribs don't fall off, they pull off with little effort. Everything else we had was just okay. Good portions and nothing was really bad except for the BBQ offerings I mentioned. I really didn't experience anything that differentiates this place as a step above anything else. I really don't see any pride and care being exhibited from the management of this establishment. Beer geeks would be pleased with the selection of bottled brews, I was and allowed for a third star because of it.

Nom Nom! ^__^ I love you Yelp! It if wasn't for you I would have just stopped at the Chili's right off the interstate during a rode trip and not drove the 2 extra miles into the lovely city of Staunton to discover this gem! We ate here 2 times in a week driving to New Jersey and back to Tennessee. Both times the service was outstanding! The food was quite good as well. We all ate fish and each time it was prepared perfectly. I really enjoyed the grilled fish with the Cajun spices. The complementary bread with the different butters-o-the-day is a nice surprise, as is the complementary ice cream at the end of the meal. I don't often comment on things such as baked potatoes, but man those were some good baked potatoes! Also, you gotta try the crab dip! The building the restaurant is in is beautiful old place and the menu has a brief history. It's nice to see historic places so loved and appreciated. There's no better way to celebrate a place like this than with a great restaurant!

We were here the Sunday before Memorial Day. We sat next to a young service member, his wife, and their young son. When they asked for the check the waitress told them it had been paid by an anonymous patron with his thanks for the young man's service. So amazing to see. The food was wonderful too, but seeing that made whole experience.
(5)Tim G.
Great service! Excellent selection - especially the wine. Food portions were more than generous. Delicious! I had the Cajun pork chops, my wife had the chicken cordon blue. Both were terrific! Not expensive. We'll be back.
(5)J L.
We loved this place! It's an absolute gem. The ribs are good as advertised. The chicken stuffed with andouille sausage was excellent. The Rockbridge Meritage was lovely. We went back for the Sunday brunch. (Warning: HUGE portions.) It was just as tasty. So, the chef knows his stuff. The rest of the staff is accomplished as well. Saturday night was a zoo with a nearby university and 2 colleges in the middle of parents' weekends as well as the normal 3 day weekend mobs. Despite that, the bartenders and our waiter were outstanding. (Hostesses were a little stressed, but still professional.) We were still made to feel as though our dining experience was important to them. How great is that?! We found several things in Staunton to make a return weekend worthwhile. And we'll eat at the Mill Street Grill when we do.
(5)John M.
I've had BBQ Ribs in many places in my life, but none as good as these! There are three styles, traditional baby back (pork) rib, a dry-rubbed pork rib, and beef ribs. I tried a combination of the pork ribs and couldn't decide which was best. The ribs were fall-off-the-bone tender. Sometimes when putting a fork in them, they would fall apart and I'd have to scoop them up instead. Very informal (old-mill style) with several rooms.
(5)David P.
The food here was terrific. We had an issue with service but could tell it was a blip and not a usual thing. Our dinner order took nearly 45 minutes to arrive. We figured one of our entrees got screwed up and they had to redo it. The waitress came by to apologize and we did get a tiny complimentary dessert, but we were heading to a show at the nearby theater and basically had a few bites of our dinner and then had to have them all packed to-go in order to make the curtain. A bit of a shame as it would probably have been a wonderful evening if the food have arrived promptly. I will say the appetizers, which did arrive promptly, were insanely good and the home-baked bread and specialty butter were also a nice touch. We did eat all the leftovers for lunch the next day.

Recommended by our hotel, and they were right. Nice grill atmosphere. Terrific wine and beer offerings. We had a goat cheese appetizer and entree salads with salmon. Both were huge with super fresh ingredients and the salmon was perfectly cooked. Fresh bread with infused butter was served before the meal...the presentation was unique. Reasonable prices and great service ... Thanks, Joe, for the peppermint ice cream palate cleanser. Only issue is that we got there on jazz night and the band, while excellent, was a bit overwhelming. Fortunately the found us a table that was somewhat quieter. Highly recommend.
(5)Barbara B.
This was our first time eating here - we had the crab bisque (very good) and the chicken salad wrap (OK). Meal came with some good bread and ice cream. Great atmosphere and wonderful service. Will definitely come back to explore more of the menu.
(4)Melissa E.
Good food and good service. Restaurant was pretty loud, it may be the low ceilings that carry the noise, so it's probably not a good choice for a quiet romantic dinner, but makes is great for families or groups. I had a salad and my son had an appetizer sampler. Everything was delicious!
(4)star s.
Over two weeks we visited several restaurants. This one had the best ribs, without any question. They literally fell off the bone. Great meal. Great server.
(5)Sammie L.
Went in for a historic pub experience but found ourselves at a country diner. The hostess was terrible - too young and disinterested to be a fair representation of the overall customer experience. Andy is a great, attentive server. The Oysters Rockefeller was creamy and nicely flavored. The rime rib was bland, but came out correctly as medium rare, although there was no au jus or horseradish accompaniment. The dirty martini was well executed and timed nicely with the meal. But the burger was dry and lacked flavor beyond a topping of cheese. Perhaps the patties here are precooked or frozen? There are better spots in Staunton for your foodie pleasure-
(3)Linz R.
Holy crap, you will NOT leave this place hungry. We were in town on a Monday, when most of the other hot spots for dinner were closed, and we were a little disappointed but this was a fantastic choice. Our waitress was extremely fast and friendly. We paid quite a bit for our dinner but that's only our fault for getting 2 appetizers, drinks, and enormous dinners :)
(5)Vicki A.
Have enjoyed this place for years but an off-night (and first-time complaint) pointed out was not well received, to say the least. Way too crowded and LOUD, food of two of three diners badly prepared. Ribs were stringy and meat was sparse, crabcakes very dry and tasteless. Based on that visit and the fact that I was made to feel like a criminal for complaining, we'll never return.
(1)Chris W.
Never had a bad meal here. Great ribs.
(4)Wayne H.
Gluten free chicken tenders are the best! The rest of us had the fried oyster sandwich (again), grilled pork chop and chicken and shrimp marinara. Everything was really good. The pasta was just right and the pork was juicy and tender. We tried the chocolate tort and key lime pie for dessert. Neither were the best we've had but were good!

This restaurant was packed at all times when we were in Staunton, so it obviously has it's many devoted fans. The menu is huge and features the classic standard fare of the 60's, 70's and 80's in very large portions. I had the ribs which they are known for (per the other reviews I have read here) and I just wasn't that taken with them. Falling off the bone? Yes, but also sort of greasy--not traditional smoked BBQ'd ribs with a smoke ring and an awesome bacony flavor. Just ribs cooked a REALLY long time, probably in an oven and then slathered with a standard overly ketchupy type BBQ sauce. My husband had the prime rib and he said that while the beef was decent tasting, the au jus on the plate had no flavor and there was no seasoned outside crust on the prime rib slice itself. The french fries (which we both had with our meals) appeared to be coated with corn starch before they were fried (which we are really not fans of) so those went uneaten for the most part. The bread and butter they bring at the beginning of the meal, to me, was the highlight. Very cool gimmick and the pumpkin butter they served that night was to die for (although think desert) Service was not bad, but harried...the waitress acted like she was just trying to get through the end of her evening and get the hell out of there (not her fault) This restaurant is also in serious need of a revamp regarding the decor and carpeting. I don't think anything has been upgraded or replaced since about 1985. All in all, this place is actually fairly expensive and I quite frankly don't see what all the hype is about. Maybe they were having an off night when we dined there, but based on my experience, I would pass on a return trip.

My bf and I stopped in Staunton late one night and was told by our motel manager that the only thing likely open is Mill Street Grill. It was a quiet weekday night and we sat all the way in the back. I got the veggie pasta and my bf got the ribs. The food was disappointing. My pasta was overcooked to the point of mushiness and the ribs are also overcooked and over sauced. Maybe it was because we were there so late but that is still not an excuse for pretty bad food. On the other hand the servers at Mill Street are wonderful. We were going to be in town for 1 more day and they gave us plenty of tips on where to go and what to do. The bread they served at the beginning of the meal was also very yummy.
(2)S. S.
We very much enjoyed this meal. Had a few obscure cocktail requests and the waiter(tress) was accommodating enough to not only look if they had the ingredients, but to Google the recipes. Food was good, prices were fair, service was great, atmosphere was comfortable; all around good dining establishment. I would recommend most certainly for a nice night out.

This place is very cool. A renovated flour mill from the 1800s in the very historic town of Staunton. They have a very comfortable and classy building, great new American cuisine with regular standards and best of all, large drinks. Right next to the old car emporium and the Depot Grille (another good spot).
(4)Sarah C.
The Mill Street Grill was the site of the classy dinner that kicked off the fairly tame but undeniably sloppy bachelorette party I attended in Lexington back in August. I was skeptical that any restaurant in nowheresville Virginia could be worth an additional half hour's drive, but the bride has always had impeccable taste and the Mill Street Grill was no exception. They kick off the meal with bread and butter. Sure it sounds standard, but let me tell you, this bread and butter was anything but. Three different types of bread are baked into a ramekin, and puff up like a multicolored souffle. It was a great presentation, simple but elegant and fun! Served warm and with delicious homemade strawberry butter, this was the perfect way to start what was an absolutely heavenly meal. We all ordered drinks, and I got a nice local beer, the name of which now eludes me. In honor of crossing the Mason Dixon Line, (which I do about every two years), I knew without looking at the menu that I was going to get me some bbq ribs. Of course, they had a variety of options, the most attractive of which was the aptly named Flintsone's Platter: two styles of bbq ribs, a heaping helping of brisket and your choice of a side dish. Clearly, it was calling out to me, so I basically made my friend split it with me. She wouldn't give in to my desires for fried green tomatoes, so we decided to get those as an extra in addition to her choice of mashed potatoes. The waiter was so cool about us splitting the entree that he brought the meal out two evenly divided plates. Both plates looked like more than a full portion of food. The online menu claims that the platter comes with half a rack of St. Louis ribs and half a rack bbq ribs, but if I hadn't read that I would swear that they served us a full rack of both. There was just SO MUCH FOOD on my plate. I swear, I had a full rack of ribs and a huge hunk of brisket all to myself. Honest to god. And the kicker? The whole shebang cost us all of $27.99! Is that not insane? Sometimes it's great to be out of New York. In addition to being served in crazy awesome large portion sizes, our food was AMAZINGLY GOOD. I've always loved ribs, but I also generally hate the nasty sticky sweet bbq sauce slathered on top. Unsurprisingly, this Southern restaurant makes amazingly juicy tender ribs (and brisket!) with a delicious and subtle sauce. So satisfying. The fried green tomatoes and mashed potatoes were passable, but totally paled in comparison to those meaty hunks of deliciousness. The ribs and brisket were clearly the stars of the plate-- which was not called the Flintstone Platter for nothing! The Mill Street Grill truly won my heart when they wrapped up our meal with a delightful peppermint ice cream palate cleanser. It was the best mint ice cream ever! Alternatively, I was in a fabulously good mood thanks to copious amounts of beef, pork, bread and beer. Either way, it was a good good thing. The restaurant is fairly dressed down, and it's loud, but they serve up some great food for very reasonable prices, and the little extras really put them over the top. Sure this is easily 8 hours from my house, but I would love an excuse to find myself back here. Seriously divine.

This is the most treasured gem of Staunton, VA. This establishment has been around for over 20 years and those that eat here know why. I have been a customer for 20 years, and hope to be for another 20 years! The owner, Terry, is customer focused and offers the best cuisine in town. The staff is always nice and professional as well. As many have stated, the ribs are the best I have ever had. They have ruined me as I will not eat ribs anywhere else. The homemade BBQ sauce and fall off the bone meat just melts in your mouth! Not to mention the homemade breads and homemade butter of various flavors that are served prior to every meal. There menu is outstanding and have some of the best bartenders. The atmosphere is relaxing and welcoming. Bottomline, if you want a kick ass meal and do not want to be disappointed, go to Mill Street Grill. I guarantee you will love it.........especially the ribs.
(5)B. A.
Great creative place, delicious food and all for a price that's very reasonable! I've been here dozens of times and always recommend this place to anyone that passes through Staunton! The staff is so friendly and the place is a little jewel. It has a good size bar on the first floor as well as tables for larger groups, smaller tables and booths. On Wednesdays they play Jazz which is kind of funky and great for date night! My husband and I actually rented out the top floor for our wedding reception. The staff was so incredibly helpful, polite and it was just a great experience. The prices for the reception weren't bad either especially when compared to northern va. Their salmon is amazing, their st.louis ribs are the BEST but the thing I have the hardest time putting down are their chicken wings with homemade buffalo sauce - YUM!!!!! Their bread comes out in little buckets of sorts and their homemade butter is INCREDIBLE! I've had banana split and cherry - just phenomenal! my mouth is watering just thinking about the Mill Street Grill... :)
(5)Deborah B.
We visited on Grad weekend for UVA and a few other schools int he area, yet the hostess was able to seat us within an hour, and although they do not take reservations the hostess was able to put my name on the list from just a phone call. The noise level was quite loud, it was a packed house, we were able to hold a conversation between the 7 of us. Waitress was very helpful, as she suggested the house ribs ( amazing fall off the bone delight) as well as the daily specials, one of our guests had the rabbit caccitorie, which was a very large portion, and delicious! They start your meal with a warm freshly baked bread bowl and a flavored butter of the day, our evening waas a pumpkin butter, which let the selection of breads taste like doughnuts. And they finish your meal with a small portion of peppermint ice cream. Delicious!

THE BEST ribs sauce I've ever had. Being from Texas I never thought I'd speak those words out of the state, but yes, I went there. I've been to Mill Street many times and have only had two meals I didn't like - the chianti chicken (was like oil-soup), and the brisket (overcooked and dry). So far I like the ribs the best. A bit pricey for what you get-but worth it if you're making a date out of it. Great atmosphere (a little loud though) and location. Always have had friendly and helpful servers.
(4)Katie B.
Mill Street is just endlessly depressing food wise, yet they always do a bustling business. I'm not sure why - maybe they do excellent marketing. But honestly I've never had a good meal here. They do have some appealing aspects to each visit. They have flavored butters that change every day and popover rolls, so that is a charming, tasty way to start the meal. But when it comes to entrees, it's rarely worth the price. The meat is usually dry (avoid the ribs, they are NOT the best in town, no matter what the nearby billboard says), the pasta watery, etc... They make all the culinary mistakes that places like Applebees or some other mediocre, high volume, restaurant would make. The atmosphere is kind of cool - underground and dimly lit and they have live music some nights. But ambience and rolls can not make up for inexplicably pricey, sub-par food. Desserts can sometimes be good, especially their dessert specials, so you might roll in here later at night for coffee and cake, but other than that, it's a miss.

I am visiting my sister and brother-in-law in Warm Springs, VA and they wanted to drive up to Staunton (about an hour away) to visit the Mill Street Grill since it is a favorite with many of their Warm Springs neighbors. We left at 4pm and arrived after 5pm. People were already arriving for dinner as we pulled into a parking spot. The menu is quite extensive, and there is definitely something for everyone. After perusing the menu with help from our waiter, we finally decided: my sister had the soft shell crab, her hubby had the 12oz prime rib and I ordered the St Louis Rib combination (baby back ribs and St Louis ribs). We all ordered side salads which were delicious with each of us getting a special dressing. The freshly cooked bread and house made butter was a delightful treat. See the photo attached by a previous reviewer. I took the dark bread portion, and my brother-in-law comically complained. Our waiter noticed and brought us another bread dish. By the way, our waiter was terrific; he was very helpful without being overbearing. The food arrived and we were all delighted with the portions. Baby I'm amazed came to mind, but the appearance proved to be nothing when we started eating. We were all very pleased with our entrees, and we all shared small portions of our dishes with each other. The prime rib was super tender, the ribs were fall off the bone melt in your mouth tender with a delicious sauce, and the soft shell crab was great, only I didn't get much of a taste from my sister. Oh well. The waiter brought me a warm cloth with lemon to keep my hands and face clean from the special barbecue sauce. When we were finished the waiter brought over three small bowls of a specially prepared peppermint (?) ice cream to clear our palates. The free ice cream was a nice touch to end a great meal. I read a few of the poor reviews for this restaurant and could not believe that they actually visited this great restaurant. Either that or they were competitors. Every thing was fantastic from the service to the entire dining experience. The Mill Street Grill is definitely a must visit. I will return and I know my sister and brother-in-law will be regular visitors.

My husband and I usually try to eat here when we visit Staunton and this trip was no exception. We both ordered off the specials menu - I had the Chicken and Shrimp Gnocci with Vodka sauce and he had the Beef Stroganoff. Both were excellent and came with homemade bread and garden salads. We also sampled the Williamsburg beer (fabulous!) they had on tap and a Parducci Pinot Noir. Service was prompt and friendly. We are never disappointed when we dine here. Looking forward to our next visit! Wish we'd had time to stay as a jazz band was setting up for the evening.

Mill Street Grill has become a reliable meal stop for us when we head south. Consistently well prepared and fresh foods that are reasonably priced. Recently gone gluten free- the hostess was immediately familiar with menu alterations and I was pleasantly surprised by my wonderful cornmeal breaded oysters. A bit noisy within, but an upbeat, relaxed atmosphere & they couldn't be more pleasant.
(4)Graham S.
Solid choice for eating out in Staunton. I've been there many times and never had a bad meal. Compared to restaurants in the Lexington area, this place is a deal! I support any restaurant that features live jazz (every Wednesday). Mill Street has an extensive menu, cool bar and very good food. Mill St has delivered consistently for a nice sit-down meal.
(4)Ryan M.
The prime rib grilled with canjun sauce was excellent.

Took our son looking at colleges in VA. JMU and UVA on back to back days. Wanted to find a good local hometown place to eat instead of eating at a Chilis or Outback. Even though we were staying in Waynesboro we took the ride over to Staunton after reading the Yelp reviews on Mill Street Grill.. WOW! did we find a keeper. Being a Craft beer enthusiast, I was really happy to see such a great beer menu. Yards, Stoudts, Victory, Bell's. Already a good start !!!! Then the food really was some of the best barbeque I have had. Business takes me to Kansas City, Memphis, St. Louis, etc. I still think this rated up there with the best. Our waitress was excellent and really set up my younger kids with half portions that didn't skimp in any way. All 5 of us left very happy. If you are in the area, and a bbq rib fan, give it a try. You won't be disappointed.
(5)Richard J.
Went here with the girlfriend and her friends after a long day coming back from West Virginia (they go to school in Staunton). I was not very hungry, so all I had was salad, but everyone else got some form of entree. It was good and everything seemed to have quality ingredients, but it was surprisingly really expensive and dare I say it, too expensive for what you get. They start off the meal by giving you bread (four types, all different in flavor) and end it by giving you a flavored ice cream (ours was peppermint). The service was okay, the woman didn't seem too excited to serve us. I understand, we're college students and don't traditionally get the $30 steaks, but we're still customers. Oh well, at least you weren't rude. Overall, I'd go back with a bigger appetite and get a better entree and it looks like a solid dining experience, yet maybe a little too pricey for what you get.
(3)Seth A.
Good food and large portions. The spicy honey wings were meaty and delicious. Beef ribs were tasty as well. Waitress (short blond hair) was excellent, friendly, attentive and helpful. Especially good with our 5 year old daughter. Peppermint ice cream and hot towels to finish the meal.
(5)Brett I.
As a Staunton native, this place has perhaps the best food in town. It's not cheap (compared to other establishments) but it has always offered the most delicious food. I've never been disappointed with either the food or the service any time i've eaten here.
(5)Jennifer M.
Good food, great service and an enjoyable evening by all. This place is very cool and the town is even better!
(4)Scott S.
For me, five star joints must have excellent food, good service and atmosphere, and a creative touch. This place had it all. Although I'm not a connoisseur (yet), this place had the best ribs I've ever had. The brisket was good but not smile-inducing amazing like the ribs. The pre-meal bread was some kind of tri-dough popover (very creative), and served with banana split butter (very, very creative and tasty). And they finished the meal with a small serving of peppermint ice cream.
(5)James P.
Choose from the specials; for the most part, don't bother with the regular menu. The specials are pretty varied--I'll admit they usually seem a little odd (i.e., they're the kitchen's interpretation of something I would have expected to be a bit different), but I always find myself happy with how delicious it is. It's a very laid back place. Service is usually excellent, though once in a blue moon middling, but never bad. Portions tend to be too big, so plan accordingly. I'd say the desserts tend to be the weakest link, though not bad...I usually just stick with the small peppermint ice cream that comes with the meal.

Found ourselves here twice while on roadtrips and enjoyed it both times. Service can be slow but the food more than makes up for it. Awesome ribs!
(5)Phillip K.
We stopped while traveling from Frederick, Maryland to Charlotte, N.C. The food was wonderful and the wine was excellent. The only negative was the very slow service. Five star if they can improve the service.

More ribs than I could handle, fresh bread, and sweet raspberry butter.

There are better spots in Staunton for your foodie pleasure-
(3)Wayne H.
(4)Linz R.

(4)Vicki A.
Great ribs.
(4)Shannon L.

Delicious!

The prime rib grilled with canjun sauce was excellent.

(4)Penny C.

(5)Shelly C.
(4)Gwen D.
More ribs than I could handle, fresh bread, and sweet raspberry butter.
(5)Cindy M.
(5)D A.
(4)Erika C.
(3)Claudia H.

(5)Lisa S.

(4)Michael K.
The prime rib was outstanding. Service was very good and the jazz perfectly relaxing after a long day.
(4)James D.

(4)Allison B.
(3)Randy W.
(5)Mark M.

(4)Jenn J.
(5)Martiin G.
(1)Leslie T.

(5)Adriane P.

(4)Jules B.
(5)David R.
(4)Jeff C.
(3)Luc L.

(4)Griffin I.
(4)Sandy V.
