Mexican Cuisine
If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.

The staff. All the folks we dealt with on our first visit to this place were terrific. Get the table side guacamole service! Food was average to above average, the energy and authentic care behind customer service and genuinely friendly staff = repeat customer from me!

*Yawn* Oh, excuse me. The food at Austin Grill is putting me to sleep. I really want to give them more stars. I wish I could. A few years ago, I would have given them an easy 4 stars. Not now. No way. My family and I had always thought of Austin Grill as our "go-to" Tex Mex restaurant. As of late, we have been disappointed too many times to even consider going back. We have tried different seatings (brunch, lunch, and dinner) in hopes of finding that wonderful food that kept us coming back. It's gone; and it seems to be gone for good. On our last visit, we went to brunch. We had a party of six. Half of us were served our food STONE COLD. The cornmeal pancakes were awful. I was really dissapointed, because in the past, the pancakes were a family favorite. The Austin Eggs Benedict were OK. They were served luke warm. My son ordered the steak and eggs. The steak was totally overcooked and tough. No one seemed satisfied by anything we ordered. The highlights of the meal were the chips, salsa and strawberry limeade. What a shame. The service was very slow. We were ignored for most of the meal. I am not sure what happened here. A change in managment, perhaps? A change in kitchen staff? Whatever happened, they need to fix it. We won't be going back. BRING BACK THE OLD AUSTIN GRILL! WE MISS IT!

This place is barley a 2 star, which to me means just about lousy. I've been here a handful for times always hoping its going to get better but it just doesn't. The place itself is clean, and the wait staff is friendly enough, but the food is just not great. You need to ass salt to everything because it's so bland. I think the only real thing it has going for it is location, being in springfield they don't really have much to compete with so people end up here by default.

I feel in love with one meal, and I've been eating the same thing here ever since. I go here as often as every other month. I love the chips and salsa, the upgraded margarita, Dr. Pepper and the grilled veggie burrito. That's all I've ever and all I will likely ever order.
(4)Sean P.
Decent Tex Mex at a reasonable price. Excellent service (thank you Cal). And great happy hour specials, but they need to apply HH prices to the main dining room too. Right now even when the dining room is almost empty the happy hour prices only apply in the bar and patio. Management should wake up and apply happy hour everywhere or at least honor it when the dining room is empty.

OK, I've been to Austin Grill before. 2 others besides this location, even. And if they hadn't changed the menu recently, I'd probably have given it 4 stars. However, I love Mexican food, and the changes to their menu really did take Austin Grill from a Tex Mex Grill to a grill with a couple of Tex Mex selections. I was bummed when I went with Dad the other day and realized the menu choices were MUCH fewer than they used to be The salsa is good - hotter than many tex mex places. The chips aren't too salty, which is good for most people, but I salt them anyways so it works out. I'm pretty sure my dad gets the same thing every time he goes there - the Roadhouse Burrito. I've had it before as well, and its good, but nothing to write home about. I had a margarita - I used to always the get the El Cheapo, because it was just tequila, triple sec, and lime juice, like a margarita should be. They shrank their drink menu too, and this one isn't even on there any more. They tell me the lowest level margarita is that, but I swear I tasted sour mix. Boo. I had the fish tacos for dinner. They were good. I generally get fried fish in my tacos, but these were grilled, and that was fine with me. It came with black beans and a white rice with cilantro, so it kept it a bit on the lighter side. Not bad. I like the place. I do. But they get 2 stars because I don't like the menu changes. I'll eat there without complaining with my parents or if someone wants to go there, but I doubt it will be my suggestion, and I won't go out of my way to eat there.

I think I'm being generous giving this establishment two stars. The reason I didn't give it one star is because the quesadillas I ordered were okay (I mean for real how you could mess up quesadillas). I showed up for a happy hour and noticed no one was there. I immediately noticed the cheesy decor that seemed plastered on their walls. What was most disturbing was the anaconda/python that was on their walls. It kind of creeped me out on my way to the bathroom. It looked like a third rate Red Robin. It was pretty sad. The staff seemed nice, but impersonable... Would I recommend this place to someone most definitely NOT. It seemed like a popular establishment for families for which I don't know why. Not a good idea for a first date.

If I could have no stars, I would. I came here on Cinco De Mayo, 2010. All I wanted was a simple to go order of Tortilla Soup. I waited a half hour for a bowl of soup at the bar. They charged me five dollars for less than 8 oz. of soup. I took it home and measured. The soup was also cold when it arrived, so it appears to have been waiting for awhile. I will NEVER return to this place. Also, the food was HORRID. just AWFUL. If you want a quick meal at a reasonable price...go get pizza at Victors, or chicken at Village Chicken. Do not waste your time and money.

This is one of our favorite neighborhood restaurants. The food is always tasty. My favorite is the Shrimp Tacos . We have come here a lot. The service is always good and the endless bowl of chips and salsa are tasty. Their margaritas are delicious too.

A local watering hole personality from the onset. Happy Hour is busy and hectic from 4:30 to 7:00. Pints of Texas brew well priced. Horrible bar tender. A tall woman of short demeanor and crass in tone and substance. I went 8 times for happy hour. Each time I ran in to her I was greeted with ridiculous happy hour rules of no take out of food even though I sat there for an hour eating the food and had to run home. No beer this day, no wine that day. The customers were the saving grace of the establishment. Nice local people. Hard working and in need of a pint, glass of wine, and a bar tender without an attitude. She kept saying she hated the place and that it had gone down hill and that she had told management what to change but her words fell on deaf ears.

I used to go to the Alexandria store quite often, but stopped years ago for some unknown reason. Walking around King St one day last Nov and decided to try it once more. Not my greatest idea. The place was messy, and not very busy either. Employees were standing around everywhere. Service was passable, but the food has gone downhill. Even the salsa/chips are not up to speed. I have to agree with another poster that Chipotle has better food.
(2)Bentley B.
This use to be a great place hidden in West Springfield, now it just needs to stay hidden. Food quality has gone way down hill, service is not as good as it once was. Considering the pricing of their menu, horrible value. Won't be back unless something Improves.
(1)Dice G.
That was one pricey seafood quesadilla. I guess I expected a chef's specialty eighteen dollar option to be more than a four serving appetizer.
(2)j b.
Chips and green salsa are the only good things about the place. Have been here several times and keep going back with the hope of improvement. The last time, I paid with a Austin Grill gift card and the waitress kept the card even though it still had a balance. When I asked her for it, she said "well it only has two dollars left on it". What kind of "service" is that? It seems to be a popular place, because every time I go, it is very crowded. They pack the diners in very close to each other and it is very loud. overall, not a very enjoyable environment.
(1)Bro H.
My girlfriend's family loves this place for reasons I don't quite understand, as the Mexican food is, in fact, quite bland. The first couple of times I went here I would have rated this place one or two stars, but this last time I went I discovered their chile glazed tuna sandwich, which was excellent. The waiter suggested ordering it medium-rare, claiming the tuna was sushi grade. I went with his suggestion even though I have a slightly hard time believing that this place actually has sushi grade tuna, but the sandwich really was delicious If you're checking Yelp because you're about to get dragged to this place, avoid the Mexican food at all costs and try the tuna sandwich. edit: trying to balance out my ratings - lowered from 3 to 2 stars

Meh. Is exactly my thought on our dinner tonight from Austin Grill. My husband's steak salad came out quite rare when he ordered well done. The manager on duty stopped by and was fairly accomodating when we told him and he offered to make it right. I also ordered a salad meal and mine was missing guac (WHAT?!). When they returned his, he realized, 'hey, where's the bacon' and asked our waitress. She agreed that she thought it was supposed to have bacon. I assumed when the bill came his meal would be comped - Nope! Needless to say, it will be our final visit for a very long time. Nothing here to draw us back, average salsa, average queso, average service, blah, blah, meh. Why bother! There are so many great places, this just isn't one of them. A shame, I really want to love this place, but this isn't the first time that they have disappointed.
(2)Mike T.
Sunday brunch a winner. Cornmeal pancakes, smoked bacon, spicy grits all wonderful but Steak & Eggs not best dollar value because the seasoned, juicy steak is puny. Check size before you order. It matters. BTW, I wrote to management and they agreed to review pricing and portion size of that meal.
(4)Ginny I.
Ugh. Can't think of much redeeming about this place. The place was a mess, with chips all over the floor, our server never came around with refills, the salsa was nasty, the meal was bland....oh yes. I thought of a positive. The hostess was friendly.
(2)Ju L.
Pros: Attentive waitstaff. Syrupy margaritas. Cons: Most bland taco salad I've ever consumed. Sit by the windows if you like to burn calories while consuming calories via shivering.
(1)Thomas R.
The food at this Austin Grill is alright -- most of the dishes are fairly uninspired, though a few do stand out. The fajitas are great and the new fried chicken dish is quite tasty. The salads though are at least a third smaller than they used to be, but they raised the prices! Austin Grill is not a great bargain, but they fill a hole in the local cuisine.

I bought a Groupon for this local eatery and my wife and I grabbed lunch there this past Sunday. To be blunt, I'm glad I didn't pay full price. Even at roughly half off, I'm don't think I got my money's worth. The only thing good about the experience was that our waitress was very pleasant, though I'm not sure how competent she really was. We ordered a 12-oz ribeye and the steak fajitas. First it took forever to get our food. Our waitress claimed the kitchen was backed up and aplogized profusely, but when we finally got the food, it was clear that both had sat under a hot lamp for a while. The steak was medium well instead of medium rare, and the fajitas were like chewing shoe leather. But I suppose that was a good thing, because we would have otherwise been diappointed with the rather pathetic portions. Maybe they were just having a bad day, but I cannot understand how they get away with charging the prices they do for the quality and quantity of food provided. Not that there are that many great choices for Tex-Mex around here, but frankly I'd rather go to Taco-Bell... I wouldn't be any happier with the food, but I'd be out of there sooner with a much heavier wallet.

We recently moved farther away from the city, and were looking for a place to bring some family in town. Being familiar with the Old Town location, we decided to bring them to Austin Grill for some Tex-Mex. I feel like they've recently added some new (and different) items to their menu, contrary to other reviews. For example, I tried the fried avocado tacos. Although, not the best dish I've ever had, they were good and definitely interesting to try. My husband ordered the variety taco platter (Willie Nelson?), and his favorite was the brisket taco on that platter. What pushed me from the "A-OK" 3 Stars to the "I'm a Fan" 4 Stars category with this rating was our waitress. She was a younger girl, who was very friendly and always had a smile on her face. Again, I'm from the Midwest and the thing I notice most about being a patron at restaurants and shops in DC is that employees of these places don't seem to understand good customer service and that being polite, friendly and having a smile on your face really does make people want to come back to your restaurant. We'll be back!
(4)Kristen C.
We still continue to visit this Austin Grill at least once every few weeks. One thing that I'm not too excited about is that they changed their menu a bit. Their green rice is no longer vegetarian as they cook it in chicken stock. You can ask for plain rice though and according to my last server, the plain rice is still vegetarian. They also have removed all the little asterisks on the menu indicating when something was vegetarian. I liked that feature because it made my ordering less involved. But all in all, still the same place with the same really good Shiner Bock queso dip! I can get full off of chips, salsa and queso. Throw in some guacamole and I'm out the door stuffed to the max!
(4)Laura M.
The Bevo's salad is my favorite! Grilled portabellas, cheese, greens, grilled corn, pieces of tortillas... The combination of everything they toss in makes it vibrant, exciting, and the perfect kind of salad--one that fills you up and leaves you energized for hours.
(4)Jim H.
This local chain has REALLY gone down hill over the past 10 years. It used to be one of the best places to get authentic, fresh tex-mex.. not anymore. They no longer make soft tortillas home made and the margaritas have become substandard yet more expensive. The food has gone from outstanding to sub standard. I will not be back after being a regular for the past decade.

I love Tex-Mex, and I'm a fan of the Chevy's restaurant chain. Walking into my first Austin Grill, I said to myself "This place looks just like Chevy's". Unfortunately, this particular restaurant served up some of the most depressing tex mex I've had. When you walk in, there is one of the tortillia machines which makes fresh tortillia all day long. At Austin's, the machine was unplugged and didn't look like it had been working for quite some time. Neither did the hostess stand have fresh balls of dough that were made in the morning. Every Tex-Mex restaurant serves up chips & salsa. The better ones serve warm, lightly salted chips, and fresh salsa. The salsa was just average, and the chips were cold. I didn't order a margareta, although my friends report they are quite good. Every time I go to a Tex Mex restaurant, I order some fresh guacamole. Some places make your guacamole table side, which is quite fun, and most Tex Mex have a good guacamole. The menu states that the guac is 'made fresh daily'. We'll guac is one of those things like fish, that it's best served immediately after it's made, and thinking that some prep cook might have made it early that morning didn't appeal to me. Despite this, I ordered a large bowl of guac, and it was very disappointing. It had no flavor at all. It seemed to only contain avocado and tomatoes. For my entrees, I like an idiot, ordered the ahi tuna. I love ahi tuna, and I often ordered it at seafood and Japanese restaurants. I knew I shouldn't be ordering tuna a Tex-Mex restaurant, and should stick to tacos, burritos, and enchiladas. The menu describes it as: Chile Crusted Tuna Ahi Tuna filet dusted in chile spices, cooked to order and served with rice and today's veggie. $14.49 It really sounded good at the time, so I ordered a rare filet. When the waiter brought it out, it was not red, but white, and cooked most of the way through. This clearly was not ahi tuna, but probably albacore. It tasted just like your Chicken of the Sea tuna that you can find in a can. The spices on it were good, and had this been ahi tuna I probably would have liked it. The 'Austin Grill' claims to be 100% wind powered. I'm not quite sure how this can be, as I didn't see any power generators at the strip mall where this restaurant was located. Perhaps, there wasn't enough wind power to run the tortilla machine. My advice, if you like Tex-Mex, avoid the Washinton D.C. based Austin Grill restaurants.
(1)Lauren D.
This place was a real disappointment. I don't know why, but I seemed to have heard good things. Well, specifically, I'd heard good things about the wings here - and those rumors did turn out to be true. My husband and I started our meal by sharing and order of the "original" flavor and WOW, they were great. The wings were gigantic, juicy and flavorful. They were seasoned with a dry rub rather than a wet sauce - this can leave other wings I've had too dry - but not these! If there is one reason to go here, it is those wings. However, the rest of the meal was a real let down after a delicious start. First, let me say that the hostess and servers were unfriendly. Never cracked a smile, and our waiter just sort of mumbled at us. We thought about each getting a drink, but decided to share one jumbo margarita - unimpressive. It was a big, sweet glass of cheap margarita mix with some barely there tequila. Blech. Next, I ordered the "Stevie Ray" - an enchilada and a taco. Well, the enchilada had none of the promised "mild green sauce," just a bunch of cheese melted on top that had since cooled into a congealed mass. The skirt steak taco was dry, and just plain boring. Literally a plain flour tortilla with some cut up steak. That's it. The rice/beans on the side were bland, dry and room temp. My husband ordered a burger and said it was no better than anything you could snag at your typical TGIFriday's or Chili's. They do start your meal with some complementary corn chips and two types of salsa, which were tasty...but other than the wings, this place is nothing to write home about.

We have eaten weekly at Austin Grill for the past seven years. Great neighborhood Tex Mex place with nice menu variety. Menu updated every year or so, and recent change added more healthy items. Great salsa, tortilla soup, salads, chicken and fish and steaks. Friendly staff.
(4)Wyld K.
We ate at an Austin Grill once before this, and the food was pretty average for a sports bar. Unfortunately, the food at this Austin Grill was horrible. Our party's appetizers and entrees were no better than frozen food found at a cheap grocery store. Would definitely never return to this location.
(1)Mitchell F.
I am pretty much done eating here. We have been several times, but the best meal we have had rose to level of "meh . . . pretty good". It is a tough place to review because its crime is just blandness. Lots of cheese and it looks like any other Tex Mex, but I have never been surprised by anything I have tasted and I never feel like I want to go back after eating.
(2)Rebecca P.
Average food. Service extremely poor. Have only gone once, but will not return..
(1)Kathy L.
Awful. Food is mediocre at best. Drinks are not good. This place needs a manager.
(1)Stephani K.
Just got back from the Austin Grill where I had Grilled Tuna, steamed broccoli and spicy rice for $16.50 for the entree -- a little steap for the portion size. On the kids menu: hamburgers, soft tacos, cheese quesadillas. Small burgers and no fries :( This place is tucked away in the corner of a strip mall -- wouldn't have known it was there if I hadn't been invited.
(2)Rachel H.
I started going to the Austin Grill (Wisc Ave location) weekly back in 1996...over the years as I've graduated from college, married and started a family, I have tried to maintain loyalty, though not as frequently, but usually go once a month. I've noticed a steady decline in the quality of the food over the years and after 3 months of not making it in, this last menu re-do has made the Austin Grill virtually unrecognizable. I feel like they've constantly been looking for ways to prepare the food more cheaply and in doing so they've destroyed it. I can't believe they took the portobello mushroom fajitas and the veggie burrito off the menu. Each menu re-do makes the food cheaper and cheaper and they've finally hit rock bottom where they've lost a customer of 18 years. Such a shame that they've turned top notch tex mex started by the old owners into utter cheap crap. So sad.
(1)Open E.
service was good. manager came out once in a while to double check that everyone sitting outside was happy. i called to ask if they had soft corn tortillas, the young lady that answered said no. i asked the server when ordering, lo and behold they had soft corn tortillas for their tacos, that was good (even though she didn't know her menu very well) ! food was pretty bland unless you add some cholula hot sauce (on every table, a plus) and some fresh limes. no cilantro in anything that came with a taco dish, but oh well. free chips and salsa, both were good, chips were fresh and are addictive. i'll go back b/c it's convenient. the best taco place in VA thus far is Taco Bamba in Falls Church behind Whole Foods, the best in DC is the DC Taco Truck. i've heard that district taco is very good as well, but haven't had it yet. cheers!
(3)Ragan B.
The new habanero sauce is yummy. Not all of the service is as good as it should be.
(3)Heather F.
Bummed. We just left and couldn't have been more disappointed. What happened to this place? Food took forever considering the place was half empty. Really long! Shrimp salad had five, tiny shrimp and veggies were dry. Kids cheeseburger was dry and nobody took more than one bite. My husbands chicken sandwich was overdone and chewy. Fresh guacamole was the only plus. Waste of a $50meal.
(2)Glenn F.
I was there recently, and had a good experience. I am a fan of this chain, having gone to the one in Baltimore regularly in the 90s. I was surprised to find entertainment there, but the guitarist/singer was competent, and I actually recognized all the material (which was almost as old as I am). I had the Texas chili, which was tasty, and the real deal (no beans, large pieces of meat). It's a small portion, but I'm on a weight loss plan, so that fit my needs. The Chalupa salad with beef was pretty good, too. Service was efficient, and not too intrusive, which is the way I like it. I would go there again.
(3)Min Sae C.
It's real sad to see what used to be a real "Tex-Mex" restaurant go so far downhill. The menu is on the pricey side and even worse when you get the food. The chicken in our chicken quesadilla was extremely dry. You could tell that it had been sitting out on the line for a long time and was the scraps of a bunch of chicken that had been pre-cooked. Salmon tacos were overcooked and had no flavor. Rice & beans were inedible. Bartender lacked any common sense when it came to basic service. Had to ask him for silver ware, napkins, chips & salsa, refills, etc.... He only had 6 other customers at the bar and cocktail area. They also had a projector tv playing on the back wall showing a tv show. Totally out of place and tacky. This place used to make everything from scratch and took pride on service and atmosphere. I hope this review can help other former customers from going back and wasting their time and money.
(1)Erin B.
This place has gone downhill over the past several years while their prices have risen. The food just gets more and more bland too. The chorizo tacos had no chorizo flavor whatsoever. Safe bets are the enchiladas and the burritos. This place does a ton of business and there's usually a wait on the weekend. Which I don't get with all the lackluster reviews. Oh yeah, and one of the bartenders is a douchebag too. One night my husband and I went sans kids for margaritas. After our first, the bartender asked me for another, but ignored my husband....until my husband had to speak up and ask for another drink. Then he did it again! It was really odd.
(2)Martin F.
This places margaritas tasted like lemonade, great lemonade but horrible margaritas. We live right around the corner from this place and wouldn't recommend it to any of our friends but maybe to someone that doesn't have their sense of taste. For good margaritas your best bet is Los toltecos in fairfax station. Ps. The food at Austin grill will most likely come out to you at room temp... If your lucky.
(1)Chris W.
Great place for my wife and I to walk to and get a drink. Good service and nice to have the opportunity to sit outside!
(4)Chelsea R.
Such amazing chips and salsa, nice staff. Prices have increased pretty significantly over the last 5 or so years, but it's still a pretty good deal.
(4)Matt J.
In here for a quick bite prior to the fireworks on 7/3/2013. Live music up front that was excellent. Artist took requests and played to the youngsters in the crowd. Even his originals were smooth and elicited toe tapping while dining. We had the quesadillas to start with and that was excellent. Followed up with chorizo tacos and a combo plate that was shared. Food was excellent and paired with the live music it took me back to times of my youth going out to dinner with my dad. Sitting up front having a couple of beers and singing along. Would like to know how often they have acoustic music up front as i would attend more often, but nothing on the website.
(5)Tom O.
Disappointed. An out-of-tower goes to a Tex-Mex joint and orders ribs; he gets 'why won't this rack let go of my fork' ribs. They were removed from the bill, which is fine, because I probably got less than a tenth of an ounce of meat off of 4 ribs. The beer was cold and they had a cool sangria margarita. Other than that, it's pretty much a 'skipper' for the next time we're in town.
(2)Julie C.
Very friendly, several people said hello when we came to pick up our first take out order, the food was fresh and tasty! I will definitely come back to dine in. We had fish taco plate, carnitas (pork) taco plate, and chicken taco plate, all tasty with average portions and they included both rice and beans. The sour cream, pico del gallo and lettuce was cleverly placed in a small plastic container on the side so the hard and soft taco shells were not soggy one bit. Great take out experience!
(5)christine h.
Terrible food. Terrible Margaritas (and $9.50 each at that). Uncle Julio's is a far superior experience in every way. Most of our food, table of 8, was not warm. The margaritas tasted like limeade. The kitchen messed up our Texas BBQ platter completely missing the brisket. The Austin Grill Mac and Cheese tasted like old grease, as did the taco salad shell. We were told by our server, Robin, that the kitchen was screwing up left and right that night. The manager came by with a round of tequila shots as an apology. There were 4 children at the table, shots not cool. The worst experience us 4 adults had all had in recent memory. Will never, ever return to this overpriced, pathetic restaurant.
(1)Chelle W.
I'd give four starts for the food, but 1 for the drinks. I seriously doubt they're putting any tequila in their $8 margaritas. I like the food a lot though and their salsa is amazing.
(3)Steve A.
My son and his wife had their wedding rehearsal dinner here recently. Everything was wonderful. Teresa, a manager, was great to work with before the event and she made sure the details were handled during the event. Highly recommend!!!
(5)Glen I.
I blame the problems squarely on the ownership of this restaurant. The food just is getting to the point that it's not even Tex- Mex. They have changed the Menu so many times and each times in gets blander, fewer choices, and more like Denney's. I have eaten at Austin Grill in Springfield for years, with more than 50 visits, If you are running a Tex-Mex restaurant you are really grabbing at straws when you add Meat Loaf to your menu. This is like you own a Chinese restaurant and add a full line of pizza to bring up sales, your Chinese food might be the problem. A few more changes like these that have been made will take this restaurant out. They have lost my business for sure, If you are looking for good Tex-Mex food look elsewhere.. On top of all this, the reason I kept coming back is their best bartender Allie. She may be the best this side of the Mississippi. For some reason she longer works there. Letting her go, whatever the reason, was the last straw for me. I guess it is back to Taco Bell for my Mexican fix, which always causes pain in my abdomen.

I had $30 on my Rewards Club card which were going to expire on April 1, so we headed in there on 03/31 for dinner. We had to wait a few minutes to be seated and we were seated in the back. I usually go to the one on Penn Quarter near my office so I was familiar with the menu. I always enjoy their salsa but here they served red and green (all the times I went to the one in Penn Quarter, they only served red). My wife ordered the fish and chips (something safe to feed our 16 mo old daughter) and I ordered the Texas chili and Carne Asada Steak. While we were waiting the people next to us (who had two young boys) got some sort of children's meal, which we were unaware of (I did not see any children's menu section, nor were we offered one). The chili seemed a bit spicier than I remember, but I always love a good tortilla. My daughter likes tortillas, so we asked the server if we could get an extra order of them and he brought them out, no charge. My wife said the cole slaw was a bit spicy, as was the sauce for the fish, but the fish was fine and she shared that and the french fries with our daughter. My steak was fine, with a roasted ear of corn and garlic mashed potatoes. My daughter had about 1/4 of my steak and mashed potatoes. Fried ice cream sounded good for dessert but my wife said it was too cold. He did say they had sopaipillas, which I like and haven't had in a long time. We got ours with coconut ice cream and it was good. I can't complain too much since it was a mostly free meal. It is sad that they are "modifying" their Rewards Club though.

I've eaten here periodically over the last several years. Each time it's pretty busy, but service is always good. The chips and salsa are fresh and delicious. Tonight I had the Rancher Burrito. The ground beef was flavorful as were the black beans, queso sauce, lettuce and pico. The limeade was refreshing as always. It's a bit pricy, but worth a nice meal out. I'll be back the next time I'm in the mood for good Mexican.

Good food and good service. Wings are very good so were the fajitas. Only complaint is that sodas are 2.75 each. Nowhere is the price of a soda on the menu. If you are not going to put a price then they should be less than $2.00.

I would love a chance to review the food here however... On a Friday night we waited 10 minutes for a table, not bad at all. It was the 15 minutes we waited without anyone even acknowledging us at our table that was bothersome. We walked out and on the way out everyone happily thanked us for dining with them. We went to Tiyaki grill across the street and they saved date night.

I like unique options on a menu so I tried a taco plate with one brisket and one fried avocado taco (yes, they will let you mix and match.) Brisket taco was good, but fried avocado taco...meh. The idea sounds good, but execution was lacking. It just came across a bit bland. It did have the jalapeno jelly, but the avocado pieces could have used some seasoning too. Points for effortand creativity. Chips and salsa were a hit. Fresh made chips still warm from the fryer, mmmmm. The green salsa is worth a try as well, after all it's free, right? You'll have to ask for it though, since the red variety is the default. Don't miss the strawberry lime-aid. very tasty, and very sweet. If you're not a big fan of sweet stuff, it might be too much for you. guacamole was fair. Not my favorite, but not bad. Enjoy! 3.5 stars if I could...

My husband and I ate here last night, it truly was the most disgusting meals we've ever had, and not cheap! I got chicken fajita's, my husband got steak fajita. My chicken was nothing more than flavored leather, so over cooked! My husband ordered his steak med well, blood was pouring out of the meat, neither of us could chew the under cooked rice, it was too hard, but all the flies buzzing around loved it! Our waitress was unimpressed with our meal complaints, stating she told the chef and manager, as she dropped our $42 dollar check on the table. We waited 15 minutes for the manager to grace us with a $5 gift card for our next visit, which I left as the snotty waitresses tip. The restaurant is loud, dirty and loaded with flies, and apparently lacking customer service, at least in our case, it was not a priority. I will add the manager, after seeing our disgust with the gift card offer, did take 10% off the check, even if he gave us free meals, we'll never go back.
(1)Linda C.
Love the Tex-Mex Flavor. Steak and shrimp special was fabulous. chips and salsa always a winner. Only drawback is the noise level.
(4)Ann P.
When we used to live in this area we didn't like the service back in 2011. But the food, management, and service has improved greatly. Since 2014 we have visited this location mostly for brunch but the lunch & dinner menu has more options than before.
(4)Jeff C.
This place is absolutely horrible. Been there a few times and have never really had a good experience. Last night was the worst and the very last. Service is horrible, food and drinks way over priced. Fajitas are very good though - I had the steak burrito and only ate a quarter of it - horrible. Manager asked how it was and told him the truth - he offered a new meal but not to remove from the bill as I would of expected. The drink prices are a joke at the dinner table - happy hour till 7PM but only at the bar which is 5 feet away from any table in the place. Makes you want to walk over and order drinks from the bar. It's almost half the price. Bottom line - go elsewhere for dinner at this price. Glory days, sweetwater, on the border are better choices....stay away!
(1)Ashley W.
I love the steak, dry rubbed wings, shrimp tacos, THE QUESO, green salsa, the hangover burger, steak fajitas, Miga's plate, burritos & chilly with tortillas. Not crazy about enchiladas, chorizo or tacos. Over all I do love this place and its definitely a place I go for a craving fix!
(4)Scott T.
Not what it used to be. Had not been there in a while but have been twice in the last six months, both times the service and food were average at best. The service is slow, even on a night when they don't appear to be that busy. The food has virtually no taste! I believe the restaurant was sold a few years ago, and it's just not the same! Won't be going back, you can get much better tex-mex food (and service!) elsewhere.
(1)Jonathan M.
When keeping it blah goes wrong.... Ive been to Austin Grill twice. To say I was unimpressed would be an understatement. The food is dry, the service is slow, etc. I really applaud the attempt, but feta cheese on the Steak Fajitas is nothing short of a valiant bust - albeit a bold bust. Both times my meat doubled as dental floss, and that concerns me. I mean, I'm all for a clean mouth, but there's a time and a place; I didn't see a dental chair, so I imagine it wasn't the correct place. I cant say that you shouldn't go, that's not the case at all. But if average, boring Mexican fusion is your forte' this is your spot. Its edible, its semi affordable for a lunch spot, and its nothing that I look forward too.
(2)Tim H.
The food is pretty decent, not spectacular. The prices are pretty high for what you get. 2 tacos for $10? I can get 3 at chipotle for $7. Environment and service have been good in my visits. Decent spot.
(3)Foodie C.
Pass on this place Thats all
(2)Dee M.
We've ate here a few times at the bar while watching UT and Cowboys play. Food seems good so far. Just moved to the area and will continue to go w/ my Hubby for drinks and help keep "Austin Weird" female bartenders are Great and Friendly even tho I'm a Cowboys Fan. And Hubby is Eagles.. They make us feel welcomed. Love the decor maybe cause it makes me feel at home. Good job Baby on picking out this place for us. Hook em Horns and Go Cowboys!!!
(3)Pearl D.
Good wings! Nice BBQ taste to them. Salads are big an will fill you. Try a swirly margarita if you can or a cold Shiner Bock This is good for a family. The kids like the limeade. Tortilla chips are fresh. The Happy Hour Deals are cool. They start you off with Chips and Salsa. Salsa is fresh and tasty. There entrees can be slightly overpriced and the rice is usually on the dry side.
(4)Chris B.
The food here probably deserves 3 stars, but I bumped it up because it is one of the few places my kids like. Most of the food is average bar/grill with a southwestern tilt. Stick with the basic Tex-Mex dishes (burritos, quesadillas, etc.) which are pretty good. Chicken is your best bet, pork and beef/steak are very erratic. Most of the rest (sandwiches, salads, etc) is average to blah. The chips and salsa are good. Service is usually good as well. Two items to definitely skip. (1) Anything with fish (think Starkist), even the specials. (2) Ordering a mixed drink. It will take FOREVER and taste like margaritta or Tom Collins mix, no matter what it is. Stick with soda or beer.
(4)Jonah P.
Great staff , selection of food and happy hour. Only problem I have incurred is my order being messed every 2/3 times I have carried out.
(4)Tim B.
We had a nice family dinner, with friendly service. I highly recommend the wings as an appetizer. It's small and a bit loud, but a good experience for us. It's a chain restaurant, but it has some personality and uniqueness feel to it. It's quite popular, so expect a wait on weekend nights.
(4)Jocelyn B.
I've been to Austin's Grill a few times. Service is good and food is about what you would expect at a Mexican chain restaurant. I've never had a bad experience, but haven't really been wow-ed.
(3)Brendan H.
It's rare for me to grow a pair and travel outside of Arlington but last night I became a man and did it. I decided to head to this spot with two of my buddies, one of whom goes there all the time. I had heard great things about their wings and being a guy who really enjoys wings I had to try them. The HH specials are pretty awesome, $2-3 drafts, cheap margaritas, and $3 (maybe $4, I don't remember I got pretty drunk) appetizers. I got the Austin Wings, which are bbq season rubbed and grilled. Now I was a little worried about this because I find that most dry-rub wings often end up really dry when they're cooked but these things were ridiculously juicy. After eating a plate of those I ordered the new spicy habenero wings (yeah, so I ordered a second plate of food, don't judge me!) When these came out I looked at them and thought "Wow, these look disgusting." It looked like someone threw up green salsa on them, but let me tell you that's the best damn throw up I've ever had. Juicy as hell, nice and spicy, and absolutely delicious. I wish I lived closer to this place, I would get these things all the time. The staff was really cool too, I will be back. I swear on Bob Hope's grave I will be back.
(5)Megan K.
Good food and chips and salsa, not great service. Even if it's a slow day, expect to wait a while for everything.
(3)Chang P.
Great wings and nacho chips...
(4)Kate C.
Wanted a local place to grab a drink and dinner on a Friday night. We had an immediate spot at the bar table and were helped right away. The staff was friendly and on top of it, but could have been more sociable. The salmon salad entree and the Willy Nelson taco dish was really good and prices were accurate. Lots of TVs and a cool bar lends itself to a fun hangout. There's also an outdoor patio. For the prices and location, it's a great spot to check out. I'm not a food snob, just always looking for a cool atmosphere with reasonable food and cocktails at a reasonable price, this did it (and it's local and there really isn't much to compare in Springfield unfortunately-so, for Springfield, it gets a 5. Compared to places offered in Arlington, it'd get a 3)
(5)Leanna K.
So austin grill is pretty amaze. me and my sister frequent this austin grill fairly often (weekly to biweekly). We have specific waiters we like and ones we def dont like. We have had a few slow/bad expierences, but overall good. The food is really good and so are the apps at happy hour! I really like the fish tacos and the beef barbacoa enchiladas. The wings are really good too!
(4)Will R.
The place looks great, seems to have a great atmosphere, there are specials every day of the week, happy hour as well (limited to the patio and the bar, which is kind of stupid if you ask me), pretty cool menu, and yet it only gets an A-OK from me.... Don't get me wrong, the food was not bad, it was in fact okay...but that's it, just plain good. I was full and satisfied, and would definitely repeat this place if I have a craving for Mexican just because it's pretty convenient, but that's it. The food was not the type of Mexican that you remember (for good or bad) and tell your friends "hey, we have to go to this cool place I tried the other day". I have to add, that when I went the place was not really busy, there were in fact some empty tables here and there, and yet the service was not great either. The server took a long time to bring drinks and orders, and never checked back to see how things were. I also notice some of them (servers) snacking at the drink station, that's a no-no. I know that I will be back, and perhaps try something else (I had grilled fish tacos) in hopes that it will make me change my opinion. With tons of restaurant options I expect the food to be great and to give me a reason to get out of the house. They should definitely step up their game.
(3)Taylor M.
Our waitress, Mary, was excellent - so attentive! Our food came out quickly and was just as we'd ordered it. My mom enjoyed the avocado tacos, and my dad and I split the marinated skirt steak fajitas. Both dishes were great. Their salsa is always tasty. The shopping center it is located in has really improved over the years.
(4)Karen C.
I have to update my review, on my husband's request, we have been here several times recently. On tues, kids eat free and Wed nights they have live music. The food has improved, the service has been consistently above average and the drinks are quite potent. Recently we had a taquito appetizer that was really, really good. Some things are still a bit off like the beans were not seasoned at all with my entree. Overall it has won me over.
(4)Rick G.
Fun, festive, terrific & tasty! My wife and I have been finding this to be a fun place to get our southwestern food fix for years! It's a lively environment, the staff have always greeted and served us with great moods, the food is consistently good and tasty, along with reasonable prices. Although not a burger buff, I was enticed to try their Hangover Burger... WOW! I'll swear by it - it's great! Highly recommended! Almost everything on their menu is terrific from breakfast faves like Huevos Rancheros to the Barbacoa Beef, or Los Lobos with the skirt steak taco, barbacoa beef enchilada with Ancho chile sauce and Carne Asada steak, one cannot go wrong. It gets really busy around dinner and lunch time, so be aware... but it definitely is worth it!
(4)Priscilla N.
The wings are what you should get....seriously
(4)Brandi S.
My office loves their salads catered. I took my admins there and had the salmon salad and the salmon was surprisingly cooked properly. The place was nearly empty at lunch on a Tuesday, and the wait staff was as attentive as they needed to be and welcoming.
(4)Greg M.
Best items: Wings & Tacos. Separately of course....Austin's wings are some of the best in the area in the 'classic wing' category. Their pre-assembled tacos are well balanced and tasty. This place is definitely TexMex, but still offers some of the best Mexican food around - a sad state of affairs but good to consider nonetheless. For both my visits, the staff was outstanding - very attentive and helpful. Easy to get in an out of as this is towards the end of the strip mall.
(3)April A.
The Ups: Casual, nice employees, decent ambiance, my kid liked the chicken strips The Downs: The food. And the 30 minute wait to be seated. My husband got the sampler with 3 different things-all of which were subpar as agreed upon by both he and I. I got the fish tacos. Also subpar. My daughter got chicken strips and like it. So only 1 out of 5 food items was considered "good" and that was the opinion of a 3rd grader. I very much wanted to like this place as it was casual sit-down near my house with good atmosphere. However, when all of the adult foods were less than mediocre, I couldn't even muster the desire to give them another try. I didn't feel like wasting more money.
(2)Tim R.
I like the new menu. I kind of wish the manager's would leave us be. But, I understand why they do the walk-around. They have a Santa at Christmas that wS pretty great, but the weekly clown for the kids is.... Meh. Some might consider her creepy, others might find her a nice distraction for the little ones. Sometimes their live music makes dinner table chatting impossible. Still worth a dinner now and then.
(3)Sarah S.
My family and I been coming here for over 10 years and it has changed drastically we started coming. FIRST let me start by saying, I have never had a bad server here. The service has always been wonderful. SECOND. That being said, the food has changed and is now bland and twice as expensive. Just ate the BBQ platter and was unimpressed to say the least. My dad ordered the chicken special which was red in the middle. RED. I don't mess with raw chicken. It was severely under cooked. The meal consisted of Chicken on a bed of rice. Of which my dad ate none. The Manager on duty then informed us that he would take $10 off of his $15 meal. I was shocked. Terrible service via the manager. When we left, my husband hit the nail on the head. He said "Overall one of the worst dining experiences I have ever had." I would have to agree.
(1)Zachary S.
Ok, I need 3 things: 1 - Good taste 2 - Good price 3 - Good ambiance Austin Grill has pretty good taste, high prices, and no ambiance. Although I can take a lot of negatives in the price and ambiance realm for great taste, that's not a fair trade at AG. If you need average TexMex in a pinch - hook it up.
(3)Susan S.
We have given this restaurant chance after chance. Tonight we realized we will not be back. Service was mediocre at best. The chips and salsa were great. The draft beer nice and cold. The only positive things I can say. One order came out incorrectly. One special came out not as described and the chicken was completely raw in places. The last meal came out smothered in way too much sauce. Apparently to disguise the average taste of the food. The manager came by and we told him the issues. He wasn't really interested in our problems. Never offered to take the undercooked chicken meal off our bill and when we asked to take it off...he said he would take $10 off...not the $15 the meal cost. We won't be back.
(1)Dan C.
Very pricey and very sub par. The waitress forgot to bring out my wife's margarita, which we shrugged off but still appeared on the bill. I ordered something I figured they couldn't screw up, the ground beef burrito. The cheese sauce it came with was pretty tasty, but the beef and black bean mixture inside was utterly flavorless. For $13, my burrito shouldn't taste like the filling just came out of a can. There's better options in the area. I doubt we'll return.
(2)Lexus K.
Stopped by for happy hour and appetizers and was highly disappointed at the quality of food and orders forgotten. We arrived and ordered drink from the side bar. After 20 minutes and no drinks i checked with the waitress which had forgotten then brought the wrong drinks. Next we tried to order some appetizers (Tacos and empanadas). Food seemed reheated and dried out from a microwave. The location is great and even the name works but all is lost once you step in. Hope they can fix what ever is cursing this place.
(1)Patrick C.
Most experiences have been okay, but there are times when the order is wrong and/or they forget little things like checking on the drinks or the amount of tortilla chips on the table. What bothers me is when the order is wrong, the rest of the table is eating and are finished, waiting for me to hurry up, which is off-putting because I specify what I wanted in the first place. For the prices charged, I would expect a higher level of service, since Chipotle manages that and it's a fast food Tex-Mex. It's a good neighborhood restaurant that I go to when in the area, but not a destination to which I go out of the way for a dining experience.
(3)Anna N.
The food here is excellent. I love the steak tacos. The chips& salsa are always good. The staff is for the most part very helpful. They used to do a lot of 3 course meal deals or buy one get one- I wish they would bring those back! The table side guac is really good
(4)Garrett S.
I have lived down the street from this location for about 4 months, and passed it every day... The reviews weren't stellar so I never bothered to try it. Eventually, one evening I was craving tacos and decided to make a trip to Austin Grill for as many as I could shove down my gullet. I went early, right after work (about 5 pm). I was seated quickly and before I knew it I had chips, salsa and a glass of water in front of me. Salty salsa, but very tasty! I ordered a Shiner Bock, which for only $2.50 on draft was amazing. So I was looking over the many taco choices and selected the avocado variant for my first course. They came out quickly and were very good. The avocado and pico de gallo were as fresh as could be. The "green rice" was good, and I even liked the black beans (I usually dislike them). Next I ordered a couple skirt steak tacos, which were the stars of my meal. Really, the steak was a juicy and tender medium-rare and they tasted as good as what I make at home! As part of the all-you-can-eat deal, beans, rice and accoutrements only come with your first plate. You get two at a time, which is good and bad... If you're starving you can fill up quick but if you're a sampler like me it can be a bit much to eat! My server had suggested I order the next round once each order arrived. I did so and they had them cranking out as fast as I could eat them! Awesome. So I got around to the Pollo Guisado which were very good, and lastly the spicy beef which were also tasty. If there was any gripe from me, it would be that the tiny bit of pico de gallo provided with the first pair of tacos did not last very long. I didn't ask for more, but it wasn't offered and I don't know if I'd have to pay extra. TL;DR: Overall it was good, and while not inexpensive, a good value for the money. The AYCE tacos from Austin Grill are a frontrunner for my choice of last meal should I find myself on death row.
(4)Erik H.
Food was not very good and prices were high. Probably won't be back. I got the dynamite rolls (something like that) it was way too cheesy and rich I couldn't even finish them.
(3)Stephanie J.
An impromptu dinner with my son and his girlfriend. We selected a table on the "patio" and were seated quickly by the hostess. Our server greeted us quickly and took our drink orders, after that his attention was sparse. To start, we ordered the table side guacamole which turned out not to be tableside made at all. In fact, the guac maker plopped it down on our table and scurried away. Which is exactly what I would have done if I'd served someone the swill that we received -- something in that guac was old or overripe, regardless, it just wasn't right. We pushed it to the side. After about 10 minutes our server decided to check on his. We told him about the guac and he said he'd take it away, he did not. He did, however, take our order. We ordered three burgers among our party, all cooked medium, what we received were three well-done burgers, not even the slightest hint of pink. Our service was extremely slow and the food wasn't cooked to our order. The manager did ask about our experience and I relayed this information to her. She took the guac off of our bill. While none of the individual infractions ruined our experience, in aggregate they are just not acceptable, at least not to me. Austin Grill, I will not see you again.
(2)Jenn J.
Horrible service!! I decided to get to -go here tonight and it was the last time I will eat here. I ordered a veggie quesadilla, which all they had for that was spinach and mushroom. I didn't want the mushrooms so I asked to get lettuce and tomatoe on the side and also a small side of beans and rice for the actual quesadilla. That is pretty common for any Mexican place to have that for a veggie quesadilla I mean what r you exactly ordering then if u can't add that. My $12 quesadilla went up to $18.75 with that added LOL. I said no thanks I will just have the spinach and lettuce and tomatoe for $12. When they bring it out the lettuce and tomatoe is crunched in a tiny side cup and also no chips which I'm pretty sure u get when u eat inside and also would get at any other place. Nope. Not here. I asked for some seeing how they come out of a huge drawer and the girl helping me left me for about ten minutes to see if she was allowed and sent another rude girl out to tell me sorry I can add them for $3.50. LOL. I rarely leave bad reviews but this place has rude service and basically tried everything to not make my order the way I wanted it. If u want to be nickel and dimed like crazy for things 99% of other places will give u then come here. Funny I had even tipped her before she got my order and still was anything but helpful. The food may be great I haven't eaten yet but the service was so bad I will go somewhere else that is going to take care of its customers next time.
(1)Brenna H.
They serve you stale chips. So at least you don't munch before your meal I suppose. The margaritas are okay but half the staff just stands around talking to each other instead of paying attention to the customers. Thankfully we seemed to have one of the good waitresses. The food was decent but not amazing. Better restaurants of the same cuisine in the area. Probably won't go back.
(2)Cesar G.
Chips are awesome. However, the restaurant has taken a turn for the worse.. seems like they may have new ownership but its a different spot - new and more expensive menu, quality of fajitas very low (including rice not well cooked), food took almost 20 mits to arrive and restaurant wasn't that busy...etc.
(1)Anthony S.
I wasn't expecting much of this place because it was located in a drab little strip mall--but I left rather pleased with my dining experience! I had the Old Glory Margarita, which was delicious. It could have been a tad stronger, and it was annoying how long it took to make the drinks. They came after our food--how does it take longer to make a margarita than quesadillas and tacos?! As for food, I had the avocado tacos. They were very simple, and the avocados were incredibly fresh. It came with a side of black beans and rice, and everything was pretty fantastic with just a bit of Cholula on top!
(4)Jackie N.
Tucked away in a shopping center with WSC Springfield, Starbucks, and Whole Foods, is this homey version of the Austin Grill, which is also in Alexandria and Penn Quarter. On a Tuesday evening they were very busy and bustling. For appetizers, we got the Austin Wings with BBQ and their special text-mex ranch dressing. The wings very very meaty, but not as crispy as I like them. Hey, I'm just picky. For our entrees, I got the shrimp tacos, which were sautéed in a yummy seasoning and served in soft tacos with rice, beans, sour cream, pico de gallo, and slaw. The BF got the BBQ quesadilla which was a little dry and just ok. The food was not the best and I wouldn't rave about it, but it filled my empty tummy after subbing a Zumba class at the WSC. However, the service was great and they were very friendly, so if you live in Springfield, I suggest you pop in.
(3)Karen W.
We were seated outside and no one came to serve us even AFTER my husband asked the young lady at the wait stand to please remind our server that we were waiting. Ridiculous!
(1)Lia D.
I like the grilled fish tacos and swirl margarita. For a quick neighborhood joint, I am very pleased with the flavor, price, and service. Our go-to right around the corner...
(4)Alan H.
Last two times here over past week experienced terrible service. Had to look for waiter, when food finally came to table it was cold. Order was wrong. Quality of food has gone down hill. Service and food below what you should get.
(1)Dave U.
For a no nonsense value you can't beat the Bar at the Austin Grill. The HH drinks are worth every penny (Yuengling $2.50) and the service is prompt. The HH food specials are tasty and plentiful so stop by and have a good time cheap.
(4)Karisa D.
Austin Grill. You are located right next to my gym. It's probably not the best of ideas, especially when the smells of food comes wafting into the gym. The worst is when it happens during spin class. Just thinking about it makes me hungry. They serve Tex-Mex food, and in my opinion, the food is pretty standard (hence the 3 star rating). I do like the tacos that at Austin Grill serves and the salsa. The tacos are my go to, when I decide on Austin Grill.
(3)Mary Kate B.
While some dishes are just the standard Tex-Mex norms, there are a few that stand out. The chopped salad with the jalapeno dressing and the skirt steak tacos are very flavorful (and get ordered by us a lot). We also love the queso with chorizo. Plus, the selection of tequila is extensive - we made a special visit just to celebrate National Tequila Day!
(3)S. L.
Still a fan of Austin Grill. They have great margaritas, and have changed a lot including their menu. Service there is fast, and friendly. Went there for lunch around a week ago and was happy with the service we got. Their chips and salsa or still fantastic! I loved their red but their verde salsa.... Oh man. That's the stuff right there. Salty, spicy, mmm. Chicken quesadilla is still very good, and their grilled chicken sandwich is currently my go-to dish while I'm there. I tried it with BBQ sauce last time and wasn't very thrilled; I'd gotten it plain before and will stick with plain. Whatever Tex-Mex rub they use on it gives it just enough flavor. the BBQ is too sweet and has an overpowering hickory taste. Not to mention my chicken was dripping with it. Which I can understand, I won't complain... some people like their things saucy and probably complain if there's not enough sauce on things. Looking forward to their tacos next time around, I've had the spicy beef before and plan on rotating my chicken sandwich to the back burner for a while!
(4)Tim P.
I've been living in this area for several years now. Have dined here several times with mixed satisfaction over the service and food. Last night's service was exceptionally bad. Food was at best average. The staff enjoys their socializing for sure thus the long wait time and general lack of attention to our needs. Our last visit for sure. Your money and time will be better spent elsewhere. The manager was apologetic but knew we were having issues and did not intervene until I called him to our table. (He did give me a $20 gift certificate for the trouble... after I asked.)
(1)Kartick S.
Food is mediocre at best. Service needs to be a lot better. I don't know what happened to this place, this place used to be one of my favorite spots.
(2)Angela L.
Great service and consistently good food. I do take out from here quite a bit and the food is always hot and ready when I arrive.
(5)Greg F.
My wife and I ate here once together and I have been back a couple of times without here. They put cilantro in almost everything and she is allergic to it but she still thinks the salsa is awesome even though she can't eat it (learned the hard way). I think they have outstanding green salsa. As far as main entree's.... I think they have good food. I am giving them three stars because it is just that. It is not great, it is not fantastic.... it is good. I understand that a few years back it was much better, but I enjoy it for something different. There is nothing that has jumped out at me that I tried. The quesadilla was average. Oh, the queso with Shiner bock is really good. That is my favorite starter. If you like tex-mex style food and just want something different, give it a try.

We came on a Tuesday night around 6 and were seated right away. The food was pretty good and the portions are huge! The salsa is amazing but the chips are served cold. We had the appetizer sampler and fried pickles were delicious. The vegetation fajitas are fresh and come with a lot of vegetables. My mom had a pork sandwich and thought it was tasty. My one comment is that Tuesday nights are great for families bc the kids meals are $1. However, it is very loud with squealing kids, so if that's not what you're up for, choose another night. Last, the service was good, and the manager came to check on our table as we were eating and thAnked us for coming in. Over all, very happy!

Came here last night with 9 other people. Never gave much thought to this restaurant since it was Tex Mex. Most Tex-Mex restaurant try so hard to be fusion restaurants that their food tastes awful and the portions mediocre. Boy was I wrong about this restaurant. We ordered 3 different type of salad, the nachos, a fajita, two enchiladas dish, and the Tex Mex macaroni and cheese. They were absolutely delicious. The portions were really large and there was no weird fusion thing going on. It was definitely Tex Mex. The chips and salsa kept coming and they had a spicy green salsa and a regular tomato salsa. The margaritas were huge and the 6 people in my group who bought it thought it was delicious. The staff was friendly and the food came quickly except for the Tex Mex mac and cheese. When the staff realized they had forgotten it, they gave it to us without a charge. We didn't have to ask what happened, they just admitted they forgot and gave us a free dish. Really good customer service and very attentive. The dishes were all really huge and delicious. Definitely will come back again.

Mexican food in NOVA is usually bland, salty and tastes like it was prepared two days ago and reheated. THIS IS THE EXCEPTION. Fresh and tasty. My shrimp fajitas were perfectly cooked. The sides were all fresh and presented nicely. The wait staff is friendly and prompt. And reasonably priced. I will be back.

I do like mexican food, not sure this is my favorite type of mexican but it's close to home. The margaritas and chips are good though!

Yesterday was my birthday and wanted to make reservations at the Austin Grill . The person on the phone told me that on "Mondays" was quiet and there was no need to make reservations . When my family and I got there it was packed and the music was unbearable loud . When I asked why the music was so lout they told me that on "Mondays" they had this game . My family and I just wanted to celebrate a birthday and not loose our hearing for the rest of our lives !! The moron who ever answered the phone yesterday should be fired , since she is now responsible for this negative review . We ended going to a hamburger joint next door , not bad but not for a Birthday . Thanks Austin grill for ruining my Birthday . An unhappy customer

This a great place, and not too pricey. I have out of town family that specifically requests to go here when the visit.

Pretty good and reasonably priced. Been here a few times for both lunch and dinner. Have brought the kids and worked out good. They also make good margaritas.

We like it. It's in a strip mall and a chain, but it works. It's not authentic Mexican, but tasty. Go with friends for happy hour and get some tasty margaritas. Don't get your hopes is though- everything tastes like it has been packaged and shipped at least twice.

I'm glad we stopped in yesterday! They have outside seating, but we sat in the back dining area with views of the 5 tvs airing football. It was mildly busy around 2pm Sunday. Everyone says the bottomless chips and salsa are great, and we agree. I enjoyed the steak al carbon tacos--delicious. My boyfriend requested the enchiladas combo with chicken ranchera and steak with a different sauce. I would get both again! They have a nice variety on the menu that I would like to check out next time (salads and burritos). It is a nice switch up from our standard quick Chipotle lunch. If you are used to the ginormous portions some authentic Mexican restaurants give, you might be happy to see the portions are more reasonable. We came in very hungry, and we both finished our plates (which I do not always do). Four stars because we had to wait a bit to order entrées and there was no to-go cup for my tea. Service was decent after that, but I can't remember the last place that did not let me take my drink out... The overall prices could be reconsidered--in my opinion a smidgen high.

We like this restaurant b/c it's close to home. A couple of the waiters are great. But several others are NOT. The service can be PAINFULLY slow/bad. We're really not too picky but we get annoyed and have stopped eating at Austin's. The food is decent!

Wow, the fajitas were dry, very dry too bad! They use to have the best in town. The wings are still worth ordering, and the drinks were good!

Terrible. Party of 5 on a Wednesday night. We had been there before and had great expectations--soon to be dashed. Took 15 minutes before our drink orders were taken. Had to ask for chips and salsa and appetizers. Another 20 minutes to have our dinner orders taken (after we asked). 30 minutes later, our food began to arrive... incomplete, wrong, cold, and missing. After we complained, the manager took some off the check but did nothing to correct our issues. Overall, something is rotten in Austin. Quality and service have tanked. Find someplace else to go and save yourself some frustration and indigestion.
