This is the closest Thai place that is worth it, near me. I have been here at least a dozen times and it has won me over. The curries are consistently good but the key here is to stay away from the old standbys. Dont get the Pad Thai and those typical dishes, get something you would not normally have, fish cakes or sweet chili peppers, the Bangkok chicken are all really great. Also I really really appreciate the spice level here. I asked for Thai hot once, and only once. It was burn your face off, which is what I look for now when I am sick. NO OTHER THAI PLACE IN RVA will make your food this hot. If you are looking for hot spicy food, this is your place. I love it here.

Awesome service and delicious Thai food! I love that the curries always have a nice variety of vegetables. Great prices as well.

We went for a casual dinner in carytown tonight. I ordered pad thai with chicken. My bf got pad prik pao. Both we were really good. I haven't ever been here and had something I didn't like. The food comes out quick too!

WOW!!! Blew me out of the park! The server was AMAZING and kid-Friendly. My son who is a picky eater threw her a curved ball and our server took it head on. Thai Diner Too is located in Carytown but do not let the dim lit atmosphere and fresh seafood smells throw you off. The bathroom was not the greatest but the food was great. My husband as always ordered the Pad Thai with extra peanut sauce and limes. And I ordered the drunken noodle with veggies and tofu. Tasty, fresh and promptly served. I was amazed and pleased all at the same time. Of course we had Thai Iced Teas and tipped our chick 20%. Thanks Pretty Ladies for the great service, you rock! Thai Diner Too is a great place to take a date night out on the town or if you have a kiddo and you want to expose them to something new do check it out!

I occasionally go to Thai Diner Too for my Thai food cravings (takeout). I usually order the same dish (Pad See Ew). Thai Diner Too pad see ew is tasty. The food is always hot when it comes out. All of the ingredients blend well together. The inside of the restaurant is dim and not very appealing inside. I didn't let that stop me from trying the food. Service was good and fast. The parking is hit or miss depending on day and time (street). Thai Diner Too is a solid choice for takeout Thai food in Carytown. I give Thai Diner Too a 3.5 rating.

Delicious money bag appetizer. Tasty fried fish with chili garlic sauce. Attention to our vegetarian friends appreciated.
(4)Anthony T.
The food here was tasty, but the price and service leave something to be desired. Went out with a small group and we ordered pad thai, drunken noodles, pad see ew, and panang curry. While we were seated quickly, it took more than 30 minutes to get our food! The restaurant wasn't completely full either, so it wasn't clear why it took so long... The Thai food itself was decent, but I've had better, less oily versions at other places. I like how all the meats are priced the same, but the relatively overall high price combined with the long wait make me not want to try this place again.

I love this spot. It's very quaint and quiet and perfect for a first date or a change if scenery. Don't get it twisted, this is REAL Thai food. If you can't stand the heat... well, they can dial it back. I love the appetizers almost as much as the entrees themselves. I always order the sundried beef; it's excellent. The spring rolls are also delightful, always flaky and fresh. For entrees, I suggest the pad Thai or the pad saparote. Pad Saparote is a rice dish with your choice of meat and pineapple, onions, and red and green peppers. It's spectacular. Always affordable, always hot and fresh, and always an adventure. A+

Usually the grungier a Thai restaurant is and the brighter the tacky wallpaper on the walls, the better the Thai food. Thai Diner Too is pretty representative of that. I like that it's within walking distance of my house. I like the service. And I like the Thai food. They have a faux duck that they use for vegetarian folks, which I like is a nice change from tofu, but if you're like me, you want the real duck, and for a bit of a price bump, you can have it. My pad see eew with duck was great, perfectly sweet, and I got a choice between regular broccoli and Chinese broccoli. I was particularly impressed by this, because I've never been asked that question before. And Chinese broccoli is far superior to regular broccoli. Thai Diner Too, you've got a regular customer in me...as long as I live in Carytown.

Tried this place for the first time yesterday. I love love loved it! I got the Spicy Chicken Fried Rice (Medium). The service was great.
(5)Taylor S.
My boyfriend took me here for my first time and I am officially in love. We usually like to ask our waiters what their favorite thing is on the menu and our waitress suggested the pad Thai. I wanted to be adventurous and try something else but since she works here and said it was delicious I got that and so did my boyfriend. The boyfriend and I also got some appetizers. I ordered the steamed pot stickers, and he ordered I think, the fried beef. They were both delicious more so the beef especially if you love sriracha sauce. When our food came out, which was very fast by the way. It looked delicious. I got mine with chicken and medium spicy and the bf got chicken but American hot. Mine had the right kind of spice, I still got a little kick but it wasn't over powering. My bf on the other hand, he can handle really spicy, but he was kinda dying. He still enjoyed it but when he tried mine he said he should of gotten medium. This place is yummy and really small and cute. It's perfect for a date night cause you can get some yummy food and walk around Cary on a perfect warm night.
(4)Julian E.
Every time we eat here we feel it's not worth the price and we're helping to cover the rent on Cary. Decent but the level of decency isn't commensurate with what they're charging. if I'm going to get fleeced, I'll head across the James to Ruang Tong.
(3)Kari O.
Oh Thai Diner Too...how I love you so. You never disappoint with your deliciously spicy thai awesomeness. I have a standard: panang curry (red curry with coconut milk) with onions, mushrooms and green beans...thai hot. It comes hot (temperature and spice!) and with a decent sized bowl of rice ready to be smothered with all that YUM! Crispy spring rolls usually kick my meal off and they're amazing. Perfectly crisp, not soggy in the least and has a rather tasty dipping sauce! The staff is very friendly and the decor is just odd enough to be super cool. They do offer a pretty awesome lunch special and while I do not have prices off the top of my head, it is cheaper than the dinner menu and comes with a free spring roll - WINNER! If you haven't ever been....go. Go now. If you haven't been in a while - go now. You know you want to.
(5)Karan P.
Great local restaurant for Thai food. Been going here for almost 15 years and the quality of their food remains high. Excellent flavor-filled curries. My favorite is the Spicy Noodle Soup with extra garlic. A must for all food enthusiasts.
(4)Kyle B.
Decent thai food in Cary town. Tasty and authentic. Drawbacks are less than wonderful service and steep prices. Very overpriced compared to other Thai places in RVA that are just as good if not better.
(3)Aaron S.
The food has been good and consistent over many years. I especially like the yellow curry fried rice. While I have tired most of the menu, I often crave this dish. At both of their locations the restaurant feels a little grimy, not overpowering but enough to lose a star.
(4)J S.
Love this place. Recommend be amazing Thai with chicken and the spicy noodle soup with chicken. Hint: if you're suffering from head congestion get the spicy noodle soup Thai hot and it will clear you up.
(5)Jamie D.
So far, I'm a fan. After years of living within walking distance to Thai Diner Too, I finally decide to visit... and I have to drive because I no longer live in the Museum District. But that's ok, because it's only a short drive from Bellevue, it's just a tad ironic. I was with fellow Yelpers and we started off with a few orders of the fresh spring rolls and the meat-eaters in the group tried the moneybags. Honestly, the spring rolls weren't my favorite. I was expecting your typical fresh spring rolls, wrapped in rice paper and served cold. But what we got were spring rolls wrapped in flour paper (that's what we get for not reading the menu thoroughly, right?) and sliced into bite-sized pieces. They weren't bad, per se, but they weren't what I was expecting. And I love me some classic fresh spring rolls. My dining companions raved about the moneybags, so apparently they're a winner. While the rolls failed to wow me, my main more than made up for it. I went with the gang dang curry, with tofu and extra vegetables, and I was in heaven. Coconut milk, bamboo shoots, red curry, and pure deliciousness. I also ordered it one-pepper hot (aka pretty darn mild, but with a teeny tiny bite), and it was the perfect balance of flavor. I could only eat about half of it at the restaurant, but I took the rest home and my fiancé gladly scarfed it down himself. I was only a tad bummed the next day when I was craving my curry leftovers... but sharing is caring, right? Next time I've craving take-out Thai, I think I'll be giving this place a call.
(4)Dave P.
This may be my favorite Thai spot in town. That said, I've been burned a few times with inconsistency when ordering the same dish repeatedly, so I'll say between this and Elephant Thai, you could get a good Thai meal in Richmond, or you could get burned. Depends on the night.
(3)Raquel C.
I am just going to make this review short. -dirty place. It stinks a lot! -the place is very dark and creepy. -food is not horrible nor delicious. -service is ok
(3)Marty C.
I go here a lot, especially for lunch, but I wish it was more well kept. The food is tasty, and I especially love their rating for levels of spice cooked to order, but their portions could stand to be larger. Especially at dinner the cost doesn't seem appropriate for the amount of food. My son and his wife went there as our guests from out of town once, and we had to order at the McDonalds down the street afterwards for him. The service is adequate, but the dining room could stand a facelift, better lighting and a good cleaning from head to toe.
(3)Cassandra H.
I enjoyed this place. It is small and dim. The bartender was enthusiastic and very knowledgeable about the drinks, since this was my first time experiencing them. I had potstickers for the appetizer, and the spicy noodle soup bowl which was HUGE. The cook/waitress was pleasant and made sure the food was to our liking. Will definitely go again.
(4)Sonia P.
My go-to spot for Thai takeout! The exterior of the restaurant looks unassuming and I admit, it's appears a little dingy but it's cozy inside and service is prompt. I've only dined in the restaurant once and the first time I was here, there was a funky smell lingering around but don't let that turn you off - the food is dee-lish! I'm a big fan of the curries (choose your meat and make sure you ask for extra veggies in your order) and you can adjust the level of spiciness. I haven't tried a ton of items from their menu but the moneybags special is good (kind of like a fried meat croquette) and the noodle dishes (pad thai and pad kee mao) are solid. Oh and they were super nice once and let me purchase a special curry paste from their inventory. Yes, hit up this place when you need your Thai fix.

It's a disappointment . Most of the ppl I know here in Richmond recommended this place so my fiancé dragged me over there last week . Don't go!! It's one of those places I expect to see in kitchen nightmares , seriously! 1. It's dark . They have two high windows and little lights around the place but the carpet is dark the walls are blue and purple and it's way too dark for a restaurant. 2. It's dirty , just take a look around and you'll find dirt . Not to mention flies around my food 3 . The food is good. Not great , not horrible . We had the pad Thai it was fine . The fried calamari were over cooked. Not returning , there's a better place down the block that has a good pad Thai , maybe a couple of bucks more expensive but I'll pay that for a better experience
(2)Bonnie D.
My favorite local Thai restaurant. Fast, friendly service. My husband and I eat here at least once a week. I definitely recommend Thai Diner Too.
(5)Tiffany D.
One of my reliable Thai options in Richmond as well as Carytown, I always like going here despite how it's always so dark! But the service is always spot on, the Thai iced tea is great, and they do pad thai, drunken noodles, and curry dishes very well. I left satisfied and its location is more of its appeal than the food but the price is better than Ginger Thai.
(4)Tony H.
Good Thai restaurant. Might be my favorite Thai place too eat. I can recommend this restaurant for an enjoyable evening.

Oh my god this food made me so sad. Keep in mind, this review is based solely upon a take-out order. I have been craving tofu pad thai for days. Don't ask me why. My usual haunt of Chadar Thai was closed today because it's Labor Day so I opted for the first place I could think of. Upon walking in, I wasn't greeted so I kind of mindlessly wandered to the bar area and told the guy there I was picking up an order. He handed it right to me and I paid, but without hardly one word exchanged between us because he was too busy arguing with the man beside me on how he would prefer for him to pay with cash instead of a card (even though the man was only carrying a card...be happy he is even giving you business). So I grabbed my goods and was on my merry way. Got home and was super excited and then within seconds, was super NOT excited. My pad thai had the "fresh out of the microwave" taste to it. Chewy noodles, dry with no sauce to be found. Not even remnants of it on the bottom of the box. I couldn't bring myself to finish the entire thing. For $11, I would expect this to be better. I don't plan on coming back. I think I'll go order a pizza now or something. Ugh.
(2)Wynn B.
Good: The Massaman Curry The mussels appetizer OK: Papaya salad The service the apple beer the water without bugs in it Awful: The ant floating in our water glass The pieces of tin foil in the food "Amazing Thai" : this dish consists of vegetables smothered in peanut butter and no other discernible flavors The overwhelming feeling of nausea and vomiting when I got home (maybe from the mussels) The managers response to hearing that the "Amazing Thai" dish was terrible, stating "Oh yeah that's the worst dish we have here." the overall cleanliness of the place The fact that the table next to us go their left-overs wrapped for them and we got to-go containers brought to us (don't mind doing it but be consistent) The way they staff rushes you if you're in there close to closing time.

Ate here for the first time recently. I went with a friend that wanted a vegetarian option. The inside is nothing to brag about, but it's Carytown and unless you want to drop a ton of money at Can-Can, you get an average setting. The food was good. I ordered a red curry with squid and bamboo. My Friend ordered a rice dish. We both love spicy food so we got our meals 'Thai' hot. I have a high tolerance to spicy but I have to say, it was damn hot. But in a good way. It didn't kill the flavor, it was very enjoyable. But, if you can't handle hot maybe go a level lower. It's good for what it is. Not fine dining, but decently priced Thai food.
(4)Jonah P.
Thai food in Richmond is...lacking, but this is one of the worst purveyors. The inside smelled so dirty that we couldn't wait for pick-up in the restaurant. Papaya salad was under-ripe and salty, yum woon sen was flat (though pleasantly spicy, if that's your preference), and pad thai was one of the worst versions I've ever had (think smoky rubber bands). The only passable dish was Panang. With the additional insults of not offering delivery and relatively steep prices, I won't be back.
(2)Matt C.
Thai Diner Too has firmly established itself in my heart. It is the go-to spot for my take-out and inexpensive lunch / dinner destination. In reading the reviews of my fellow Yelpers, I'm a little surprised at the dings it's getting - mostly for interior. Maybe I am strange and like the dive bar element of it. Personally, I do not care for spotless, modern Thai restaurants. I have found that Thai places, much like BBQ joints, have an inverse relationship between quality / authenticity of food and the decor. Looks like a dump? Go there. Richmond has some great Thai restaurants, and Thai Diner Too positions itself among the best. Careful though, they really mean it when they ask what temperature you would like your dish. Just like Hansel: so hot right now.
(5)Rick S.
Excellent hole-in-the-wall Thai place. The food is really good and its reasonably priced. Quick service makes it a great place for lunch. My go-to is the yellow curry fried rice with chicken.
(4)Caron L.
If you are looking for reliably good thai food, this is a great place. I went with a group of 5 late on a Saturday night and they sat us right away. The service was friendly and attentive. The restaurant itself is not a pretty place but the food is good. The prices and portions are average.
(3)Michael A.
Comfortable room in Carytown, mellow dive-y atmosphere. Drinks are always strong which i appreciate! Friendly service, great way to start a weekend night. The food is okay, and consistent. Decent flavor in the sauces, but the quality/freshness of the ingredients is a bit disappointing. I like that you can pick your protein for most dishes, but the SUPER extensive menu can be overwhelming. shorten the menu and get better produce and i would be here once a week.
(3)Andy G.
This is my favorite Thai restaurant in Carytown. The restaurant is small. The service is pretty good. The food was great--I have been there twice now and both times I have been here, the food has been great.
(4)Thuy V.
Really would give this a 3.5. The spice could be much hotter by their ratings. Go a step up in spice. Food is good and has a more subtle flavor than a lot of other Thai restaurants, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. The restaurant itself is a little grimy, somehow it seems to fit RVA/Carytown, but going downstairs to the bathroom is a little bit scary.
(3)Jolinda S.
This restaurant is conveniently located in Carytown and looks a bit sketchy when you walk up to it. It's got bars on the door and there's a weird dark entry way that you have to walk through to get to the seating area. It was adequate for a quick lunch but not much about the experience was great. The staff was nice and our food came out quickly. The interior looks very thrown together and worn. Not much about the atmosphere that would make me want to return. I've met friends here in the past and liked it but I think that was before I'd been to other thai places. I ordered the chicken pad thai. Compared to others I've had, the flavor was more smoky than sweet. I asked for the medium spice level, which was not very spicy. I would probably get the hot next time. The food came out pretty fast but didn't seem piping hot. It was an ok experience, but not sure I'd go back.
(2)Lauren B.
Date night has always been about trying new places in RVA that we have never been to and the boyfriend and I really loved this place. Thai Diner Too is known as one of the best Thai diners in RVA and it shows. I love that it is nestled in Carytown, so when I am in the area in search of good Thai food, thiswill be my pitstop. Service was sensational- we were sat right away. Our food and drinks were served promptly and the staff was super friendly. The bathrooms aren't up to par compared to most places- but it will do. Prices are reasonable and you do get great portion sizes- we were able to share a meal together. As far as the classy scene, the decor and interior lacks sophistication. But, if you are looking for a good meal and can overlook the decorations, then this may be a great spot for you. Not a great first date spot, but it does have good food. Try the moneybags (appetizer) - they are a must!
(5)Good E.
got the satay, green papaya salad and green curry satay with the peanut sauce was a little onthe dry side , the peanut sauce was of course good the salad was a tad salty. also it didnt really seem fresh. the papaya wasnt crispy and a bit soggy actually green curry was pretty good, i got mine thai spicy hot and it was definitely that, i thought they skimped on the vegetables though. there was no bamboo shoots and just too much soup. parking is available at a private lot int he back, but there was ample free street parking ambience: dark, dank. my friend said the bathroom was not very clean but oh well.
(3)Nicolatta R.
Wanted to try something different than our regular thai places and had been 6 years since I was there, so the other night we got some take out from Thai Diner Too. Sad to say , we will go somewhere else in the future. Thai Fresh Spring Rolls were GROSS- the wrap on the spring roll was not the thin kind you usually see on fresh spring rolls. Whatever wrap they used was thick, doughy, and bland. Veggie Fried Dumplings were fine. Noodle of the Drunk was fine. I ordered thin rice noodles with the drunken noodles but got the flat noodle instead and it just tasted like soy sauce. The Pad Ped Pha, a country style curry with shrimp, was the best thing we ordered. Maybe we got the wrong dishes, but instead of trying them again we will go back to our staple Thai delivery take out places. They also give you a 3% discount if you pay with cash, they call it a "discount" but it's really a premium for using a credit card.
(2)Wes F.
My favorite Thai place so far. I get the Pad See Ew on the regular. I love that they give me so many options... it's standard to give options on meat/protein and spice level, but they also ask me whether I want the traditional wide flat noodles vs long thin noodles, and whether I want Chinese or American broccoli. Chinese broccoli please, extra broccoli. And they know how to do "extra broccoli" too. I like that it's small, I like the service - they seem to be popular among people I know but they are never packed or loud when I go, which I like.
(5)Shannon H.
This place is my Thai staple. The service is great and the food is always delicious! The only dish that I prefer elsewhere is the green curry, everything else that I have ever ordered has been fantastic. LOVE the chicken satay appetizer
(4)Angela W.
I ordered extra vegetables for lunch, being a vegetarian. I received about a cup of veggies. I don't eat rice so my lunch did not satisfy me. I called back to be certain the portion I received was correct and was informed it was. I had peanut sauce on the side and did get an egg roll. This is the first time I tried Thai food and unfortunately the last. I paid 12.26 and a 1.00 tip. Total 13.26. Wow a lot of money for one cup of veggies. They did offer to give me more veggies but that was a long ride for more food. At that price I should not have had to go in search of more lunch.
(2)Bryan H.
I had the Pad Thai with chicken medium heat and the rice with mango ice cream for dessert. Both were pretty tasty. The restaurant lacks curb appeal, but to me that equates to better food. And it was true. My only complaints were the waitress wouldn't divide the check (there were 10 of us), and she brought out a different ice cream (more expensive) than what we had ordered because they were out. Not a huge deal, and I would definitely go back.
(3)Jamaal C.
A true Carytown fave. Out of all the Thai restaurants in the "RVA Thai Corridor" (Ginger, Elephant, Beauregard's), this is easily my favorite. The restaurant is old skool and cozy. What it lacks in blingy nicety is has in character. The service is always cordial and fast. There's a plenty of options for veggies and meat eaters. I've been going here for years and my favorite dish is still The Amazing Thai with tofu and a Thai iced tea. I eat meat and I still go tofu at this place because they do it just right. Add on the fact that they have 4 levels of spiciness and this place can do no wrong in my book.
(4)Gio S.
OMG so freaking good! I am picky about my Thai food it has to be just right, and this place does not disappoint! Crispy beef as appetizer, great pad Thai, very very good curry (all of them for that matters). Do not let the look of the facility scare you away, sure they could use a good scrub, but the cleanliness is overall kind of decent; I do not mind the trade off for good Thai in Richmond. Give it a try! I believe they are closed Sunday at lunch.
(4)David G.
Having just moved to Richmond I was looking for a Thai place that could live up to my expectations set by Thai 99 in Lynchburg, VA. I'm glad to say that Thai Diner Too lived up and even exceeded my expectations of delicious Thai food. I always get the curry and it's always delicious. The service was great and I'll continue to go there. 5 out of 5 for me.
(5)Priya A.
Good enough Thai food in Carytown. Not the best I have had though. I have been here for lunch only and it has been good experience. Their Massaman curry is decent. again nothing amazing, but good. the medium spicy is not too spicy so next time will have to order very spicy :). The service is good and quick for lunch.
(3)Phuong O.
I love this place!! Their spring rolls are awesome!! especially the sauce that comes with it. I always get the drunken noodles - Thai spicy!!! if you are a spicy eater I recommend you trying that. It's so spicy that your stomach feels like its a volcano getting ready to erupt. Just the flavor of it is awesome, this is the best thai food I have had by far. The only thing is, the place is sooo small.
(5)Ross M.
This place sucks! I love Thai food and have eaten at many many Thai restaurants all over VA, MD, DC and PA. IMO, this is NOT Thai food. I didn't even see any Thai people working in this restaurant? WTF? First of all, the food is way too oily. Everything is cooked in oil. Second, it tasted like they cook everything without spice, then throw the spice in at the last minute. My spice was totally messed up and uneven throughout the dish. Yuck! I could taste no hint of fish sauce or oyster sauce or really anything. Very bland. Third, the service is just average, both employees I encountered had a chip on their shoulder and acted like they could care less about my business and like they were doing me a favor. God what a waste. You can't blame them though, it's probably what the people of this area want. Three Thai restaurants in Carytown, and they all suck!!! I just don't get it. It is Richmond after all, but there are some great Thai restaurants only a few minutes away. Tip Thai on Staples Mill Rd is by far the best Thai restaurant in this area. Modest and totally Thai. Thai people cooking authentic Thai food. A lot of ingredients and sauces are made from scratch, and you can tell. They understand chili peppers and how to incorporate spice and hotness into a dish so it compliments and wraps the other ingredients up into goodness. It's all about technique. Go visit Tip Thai, you'll be glad you did. They actually care about their food and their customers.

I went to Thai Diner Too around the time I was still experimenting with new Thai foods. I used to be "safe" and only eat egg rolls, pad thai, pad see ew, and fried rice. Then I started to eat Thai curry and I thought it was good, but nothing too amazing. Thai Diner Too changed my perspective! Instead of an egg roll for an appetizer, I had their "money bags (toong tong)." They were delicious! (Money bags are like eggrolls, but much more flavorful and in the shape of a money bag). They came out hot and crispy and I remember enjoying every last crumb of it. For dinner, I had their "Amazing Thai" and to me, it held up to its name! It was hot and had just the right amount of peanut flavor mixed with chicken and vegetables. I also tried some of their "Thai Red Curry" and it is probably the best Thai red curry I've tried so far. .. and of course, the perfect compliment to all this food (and my substitution for a dessert) was Thai iced tea. It wasn't anything special compared to any other place, but sometimes you just have to get some Thai iced tea to top it all off! If you're still a little scared of spicy foods, don't worry, you can pick how spicy you want them to be. My advice: Be a little more adventurous if you've stayed on the safe side. Try something new! Whatever your opinion may come to be, at least you can say "now I know." :)
(5)Beckey S.
I loved all my vegetarian and vegan options. Coconut milk soup, mangos and sticky rice, and thai vegetable. MMMMmmm.... The staff was super friendly and helpful. Lots of families dining there. Totally kid friendly.
(4)John K.
The food in general wasn't that great. None of the ingredients tasted like they were fresh. It was as if they cooked some noodles, threw some store bought sauce on top, and added some frozen veggies. I won't be coming back here again.

I am not a Richmond native, nor do I spend much time in Carytown... but I am a Thai food lover and I will walk, run, or drive to good Thai food. This place is unassuming: from the outside it looks like just another restaurant. Venture inside, and you are greeted by vibrant purple walls and multicolored tables. It's hard not to smile at this place: as eclectic as it comes off upon first glance, it is paired with a small, humble staff. After being seated and looking at the menu, I was surprised and pleased with the options here. You could order almost any variation or customize any standard Thai dish: from gluten free choices to mock duck meat to wide or skinny noodles or the degree of spiciness (a scale that ranged from mild to Thai: the extreme in hot/spicy). The menu also mentioned that it was possible to switch vegetables. My dining partner and I ordered the steamed as well as fried shrimp and chicken dumplings (they were also available as vegetable). In addition, we ordered a mild pad thai and a medium pad see ew. As we waited for our food, I noticed they kept the AC on pretty high here, and there was a slight breeze running through the room because of it. This was not unpleasant or cold, but we were both dressed in long sleeves. I barely had time to notice this before the appetizers were brought out. The dumplings were modest: a plain, but attractive presentation with a different sauce for the steamed and the fried. Before we were finished our appetizers, the entrees were brought out. My pad thai was tasty. Mild, just as I had ordered it, but the chicken in it was tender and the vegetables in it were fresh. I almost didn't want to trade dishes, as my friend and I usually do when we eat out together, but I was curious about the see ew. I am very particular about my pad see ew: to the point that I do not order it very often anymore. I can't stand overcooked noodles, or a lack of soy, or too much smokiness. But this dish was good. My companion had ordered a mix of half American broccoli and half Chinese, and it turned out that I preferred the Chinese while he preferred the American, which worked out perfectly for me. I had to stop myself after a few bites, because I remembered that his dish was not mine. The pad see ew here is tasty: a nice combination of sweet and smoky. Portions were good, and I had leftovers to take home. Dishes arrive on rectangular dishes, and as someone who is used to round or square ones, I initially thought that the servings were smaller... but my stomach proved that to be false. Thai Diner Too is a solid choice for Thai, and not just by Richmond standards. Satisfying portions, decent prices, and good quality food makes this a four star joint. I will most definitely put this on my list of places to return to. I am eager to test out their spiciness scale, many times the Thai spicy does not live up to it's reputation, and this place has the potential to earn their fifth star in that regard.

Nothing special - place is a dump. Dont visit the bathroom! This place is pretty much a dump. Cary Town is supposed to be a bit nicer inside then this, I thought. The food was alright, I didn't think any of the dishes stood out as excellent. The staff was quick and nice. I'm not a huge Thai fan, but maybe some people would like this food better.

Weak thai food barely authentic

Thai Diner Too is one of the best safety nets in this city. I'll be honest I rarely ever go here as my first choice but whenever I end up dining here I leave smiling, full, and carrying leftovers. This past weekend we went for a late dinner (after a full day of soccer and not eating) and feasted like the King I'm so egotistically convinced I am. For our 3 appetizers we tried the Crab Cakes (terrible), the Calamari (pretty good), and the Stuffed Sweet Chili Peppers (amazing). A bottle of sake later we moved into our entrees and typical of my date she had food envy when she saw what I ordered. (Her Pad Thai was terrible by the way.) Luckily though I ordered the Bangkok Chicken and Shrimp that was the most amazing dish I've had at a Thai restaurant. The only complaint about it was that I ordered it Thai hot and he thought I was joking and brought it medium. I know I've said a few bad things about this place in this review but if you stray away from the basics and order the more off the wall foods you won't be disappointed. Also Sake is extremely cheap and tastes great, service is wonderful, and the prices are unbeatable for this quality of dining. Cheers.

Yum! I love me some Thai food and it doesn't hurt its so close to my house. I have only ordered the Pad See Ew, in fact that's all I ever order at Thai restaurants (I don't like change okay!). This place really does make some good food. They service is friendly and fast, the food is always prepared quickly and the inside is colorful and exciting. Purple walls and crazy sparkly tables that only a Thai spot would pull off. All in all, great food. From a regular who likes her Pad See Ew :)

Very good authentic Thai food. I was in Thailand this summer and this place has it down. They even sported the Thailand menus (pages and pages of menu in a plastic laminated folder). My pad thai was big enough to feed two and delicious. Another thing I loved was the decor. The whole place is purple and our table was sparky! Loved it! However, we did order a really weird not so good appetizer... I think it was Thai crab cakes (skip it). Edit: I've knocked off some stars because of this screwy seating policy that had my boyfriend and I waiting while they seated a table of three who came in a good 5 minutes after us. There was also another table of two waiting ahead of us and two open tables.... I don't get it and it upset me. I also wasn't that impressed with the cleanliness of the place this second time around. The salt shaker was sticky and my glass had something stuck to it. I still think the food is very tasty and the servings are large, but I'm going to try out some more Thai places before I settle on a favorite.

Good Thai food. One of the best in Richmond. Don't like having to go downstairs to the bathroom though.

This was the first restaurant my girlfriend and I went to in Richmond, so it will always be memorable to us. The thai food was excellent -- we had a red curry with chicken and vegetable dish at lunch time. We were literally spooning up the curry sauce at the end just to taste it again. It was not very busy, the service was quick, and the food was excellent!

My overall feeling about Thai Diner Too: Meh. I will admit that my stir fry with pork, baby corns, peppers, and onions was not bad. That being said, it truly is a shame if you are running a thai restaurant that can't do a decent pad thai. My girlfriend ordered it and most of the tofu was rubbery and the overall taste was not what pad thai should be. Also, all of the dishes that came out were overly oily. However, a friend ordered a very spicy "noodle of the drunk" and really seemed to enjoy it so I'll give it three stars instead of two. I think that I was spoiled by all of the amazing thai places in Charlottesville (Pad Thai, Thai 99, Limeleaf, etc.) and just haven't found one in Richmond that is quite as good. Hopefully this will change soon!

Food was great. I usuallly take medium spice, tried the American hot and needed a beer with it. Lunch time music selection was great. One of our party mentioned that the carpets were pretty dirty but overall the ambiance was good. More informal.

This place was amazing for my first thai resturant,I had stir fry chicken over rice for lunch, didn't know everyone gets a complementary sample of spring roll an fried wonton (delicious) Server was courteous, kid friendly for lunch time, bar section for later. Will be going again to try more food :)

I came here for lunch and was satisfied bit not blown away. I ordered yellow curry over rice. The addition of pineapple was a pleasent addition but some of the potatoes were undercooked. Be aware of the parking situation as well...street parking is often cramped or not available.

I was craving some Thai food one day and I heard great things about this place from friends additional this place had a great rating overall, why not take a chance. I ordered a chicken pad thai to go, paid 12$, kind of expensive in my experiences but since it was my first time, maybe it's really dam good thai food. So I waited to receive my warm styrofoam box and couldn't wait to go home to eat. I opened the box and the portion was modest to a little light and the quality was average to sub par. It reminded me of the yakisoba ramen box you get from the grocery store, just mostly noodles with sprinkles of meat. I've had waaay better pad thai for less than 12 bucks. Perhaps my experiences would've been different if I ate inside the restaurant but who am I kidding, the food and portion wasn't great. I'm sure my dog would appreciate this more than I would, all jokes aside, I will probably come back during lunch and sit in and maybe, just maybe I can share the same experience other people who have gave this place a great rating.

Our favorite restaurant in Cary Town! Thai Diner is consistently friendly and delicious. I would eat the Pad Thai for breakfast. That is a compliment of the highest order.

This Thai restaurant serves very rich, tasty, and authentic Thai dishes. The hole in the wall atmosphere is cool and trendy making it a great spot to eat dinner with friends. The service is good, polite, and timely without being overbearing. Beware of ordering spicy dishes because they are very hot!!!

I used to frequent Thai Diner Too all of the time! It was a mere 6 or 7 doors down from where I worked and it was yummy! My favorite things to order were the fresh spring rolls, drunken noodles and Thai Hot Basil ( I think). It's been a few years since I last went, since I no longer live in Richmond, but this place is a gem! The service is friendly and prices are right! You must visit this place if you like Thai food! If you don't like Thai food, you will after you try this place!

I have had lots, and lots, of thai food. From many different restaurants. All have tasted like poo compared to this Richmond, VA gem. There are really not many GREAT restaurants in the Richmond area...however this one is most assuredly great. Their pad thai is the best I've ever had in my entire life. All other dishes I've tried are equally spectacular. The best time to go is for lunch, when the portions are the same, the prices are cheaper, and you get a free little appetizer (generally a little fried wonton and a spring roll) for free!! Oh, also, this is actually called Thai Diner Too. The original Thai diner, which is the same, is on Broad Street near Parham.

I came here for lunch with my boyfriend. It was cheap (especially if you have a vegetarian dish) and really tasty. The spring roll was really really excellent. The tofu in my dish was the best tofu I've had! I definitely recommend it.
(4)Daniel T.
I ate there 2 times and the food and service were good. I would recommend this place.

I use to love this place but the food and services has gone down hill recently. My sister and I use to go once a week for lunch but after today's over cooked veggie, we moving on. Today was also my first to use their bathroom, can we say gross and spooky!

Absolutely disappointing. I've had Thai food in many different cities and countries. This place is one of the worst. It tasted like it was full of MSG. It was just salty with no flavor. The only reason I'm giving them two stars is because their service was good.
(2)Quang N.
The restaurant is small, but with quick and efficient service. The wait staff is courteous, but the food is really just mediocre. The pad thai is drenched in fish sauce, and lacks any complex flavors. Looking for a quick lunch, I would definitely frequent this place. But if looking for some good Thai food and with some time on your hands, there are definitely better options.

One of our favorit Thai food places in Richmond. Pad Thai and green curry dishes are awesome. If you are looking for casual Thai in Richmoond, this should be your first choice!

Decent Thai food. But nothing like Thai Diner. i like Thai Diner a lot better.
(4)Jin C.
Food is rather generic Thai food. But the reason I felt compelled to write a review is because of the service and rude staff. This is the only place that I've ever been to who refused to split a bill for a party of six. Also they DO NOT tell you that they automatically add 15% tips whether you received any service or not. Considering the fact that Ginger Thai (another Thai restaurant in Carytown) is a few blocks away, there is no way I am ever going back to this place again.
(1)Lisa N.
It's your average Thai place. Service, food, and location were all standard, nothing exceptionally special. I ordered the beef drunken noodles and my friend ordered the chicken pad thai. We left satisfied and will come back if we're in the area and craving Thai.

Whenever I'm jonesing for some thai food I always hit up Thai Diner Too! I am obsessed with their tofu panang curry - the perfect amount of sweetness with a great spicy kick! The tofu is always cooked perfectly too. I will warn you - the first time I went here I decided to be brave and get my curry "american hot" - not even "thai hot" which is the spiciest. It was the hottest thing I have ever put in my mouth! It tasted so delicious that I couldn't stop eating it, but my stomach was on fire and I had tears and other things running down my face! I learned my lesson and stick with the medium from now on. Despite my spice-filled first experience, it is by far the best thai food I've had in Richmond!

Thai Diner Too is my favorite Thai joint in Carytown. The food is fresh and spicy, service is good and I always leave with a full, happy tummy. I usually end up here at dinner. I love the papaya salad and think the Nehr Num Tok is the best Thai salad with beef I've had in town. The Thai dumplings come in an amazing red sauce. The bf and I often fight over who gets to slurp up the leftover sauce after the dumplings are gone. For the main course, the bf almost always gets the Massaman Curry. It's flavorful, coconutty, rich and wonderful. I'm all over the board, often trying the specials that are advertised in the front of the menu. I've gotten fried fish, pumpkin curry, green curry, noodle soup and been happy with everything. If you like spicy, ask for hot sauce. I once got a dish that needed some more heat, and they brought me a platter of homemade Thai hot sauces that were wonderful. They also have wonderful lunch combos that come with spring rolls for a bargain price. The wine list isn't the biggest in town, but it's affordable. You can also get a gluten-free menu upon request. This place is an awesome Carytown staple.

This is by far the best Thai street food I have ever had. After moving to San Diego, I can now only dream about the Pad Thai. This is definitely authentic street Thai food. I have never had a bad dish here!
(5)Jason C.
I have eaten here on three occasions. The food exceeded my expectations. I particularly enjoyed the Pad See Ew and the chicken satay.
(3)Jacob K.
I've never had a bad meal here, actually. This is my favorite thai place in Richmond, though Tara Thai is good, it's not local. I recommend lunch, since it is a fairly modest establishment and there's generally only two waiters or waitresses on shift at a time. The lunch prices are also very very good, so it's win-win.
(5)Ronnie P.
Tofu was nice and crispy but my dish was too oily and too sweet, but still not untasty. Bonus: free appetizer. I would almost give the place three stars, but it wasn't really quite "A-OK." Quick, friendly service, but minus points for asking if I need my change.
(2)Michael L.
Thai Diner Too is not as good as Thai Diner (west end). I love the Thai Diner fry rices.
(2)P O.
I love Thai food, have eaten lots of it, and this restaurant delivers. I've never mentioned the decor of a restaurant before, but I've also never been to a place with several shades of purple on the walls, as well as sparkly tables. I can't speak for any meat on the menu, but all the tofu I've had has been really firm and delicious. I had it deep fried once, which was delicious, as well as sauteed, which I always love. Also, tasty thai iced tea, good service, and large portions.

Not impressed with my dining experience at all. The waiter was not very attentive when it came to refilling our glasses and the restaurant had a funny smell that definitely did not convey cleanliness. When I asked my waiter to package my food he rudely said, "you want me to pack THAT?" I think I could have done without the snide comment. There are other Thai restaurants in Richmond that are much friendlier, appropriately priced with better service, and stink-free!
