--FOOD-- ~Red Velvet Waffle $9~ I was skeptical but this dish was surprisingly good! Though it's far from your traditional crispy Belgian waffle, I really enjoyed the cake-like texture of them. They are served with strawberries and pecan cream cheese. ~Ch

I'm ashamed to say that it has taken me this long to go to Lulu's! Good God Almighty was that good! We are so, so spoiled here in Richmond. We have all of this great food in our backyard. Even though Lulu's is a sister restaurant of Millie's, in my opinion the food at Lulu's was lightyears better. I enjoyed the amount of options, the space itself, and the service way better than at Millie's. I'm totally a pancakes, french toast, and waffles type of brunch girls. Omelets are great for times when I'm wanting something a little lighter. It seems like at Millie's, some type of omelet or breakfast enchilada is all you're going to get. Even though Lulu's didn't have pancakes on the menu (grr), they did have french toast and waffles which I was super happy about. Luckily someone else in my party was into sharing, so we ordered two different entrees and split them. I got the french toast and she got the Atlantic Omelette. The omelette stood out in particular. That was one of the best I've ever had! It was so flavorful. I love love love seafood and this was like the perfect seafood extravaganza wrapped in egg. Bravo, Lulu's.

I went here for brunch with my friends because I was excited to try the their velvet waffles. They were good and everyone else ordered other items on the menu and enjoyed their meal. HOWEVER, despite the tasty food, I probably won't be going back because our waitress, 'Princess Anna' (as stated on the top of our receipts) was very rude and had an attitude. She told us that the kitchen ran out of eggs so my friend asked if she could order something other than the crab Benedict (what's the point of getting that if there's no more eggs?) and she seemed to get annoyed. But, it turned out that our table managed to get the last of the eggs so our original orders were okay other than the fact that they had run out of chicken so someone had to change their order for chicken and waffles to something else. When it came time to paying the bills one of my friends paid with a $10 bill and some quarters which is slightly inconvenient but still a viable way to pay and then the 'princess' responded to her with a sassy and spiteful "here's your change" (facial expression and tone of voice noted.) I always tip even if my waiter isn't the best, but most of the other people I dined with felt that she didn't deserve a tip with the way she was acting. It's a shame that an otherwise 4-star dining experience was spoiled by poor service. I'm pretty disappointed.

I went to lulus for their Sunday brunch specifically for the red velvet waffles. I understand that when it is a Sunday, the service will be a little delayed. But for a big party and being forced to pay a 20% tip, I was really disappointed in the service. She neglected our table, and if it wasn't for the fact that the food was good, I probably wouldn't return. I would recommend if you are going. Make a reservation, expect the service to be horrible and expect that the server may be at some points rude. But the food will leave you surprised. The chicken and waffles have a nice kick with sweetness. The waitress may ask you for how you want your eggs. Or she may just do her own thing and give it scrambled and slightly cold. Overall, the service deserved a recommendation instead of a tip. The food was really good. That is why a 3 was given.

A great brunch spot! I had expected Lulus to be rather small, just like many other popular food places in Richmond, but it was surprisingly pretty spacious. The inside has the booths laid out in a pretty cool looking way and it is very clean. Our waitress was great. She helped my friend and I pick out our dishes, letting us know what her favorites were and which ones were most popular (which was almost every dish). I got the Chorizo Frittata and my friend got the Lobster dish and we both thought they were great. Nice portions, but a little bit on the heavy side. Then again I guess that's just how brunch food usually is. The only reason why im not giving Lulus the whole 5 stars is only because I wasn't amazingly wowed or blown away. However, this is definitely one of the top, if not the first places that I'd choose to come to for brunch.

It has come to my attention that I may not have been very clear in my original review of LuLu's, and that I may have come off as entitled and ungrateful. I wanted to take the opportunity to clear it up: Hostess/seating experience - excelled and accommodating, really got it right Waitress - super nice, had great suggestions and very knowledgeable Food and Drink - very very good and came quickly Manager - has completed ruined my experience; I had a mild distaste (if even that) when we originally visited, but that didn't ruin my experience at all. However in my multiple interactions with them after the fact on Yelp, I can honestly say I personally will never return, and it is 100% due to this one, singular person. So much so that I am dropping my review a star, solely on this bit of "customer service". So to be ABSOLUTELY CLEAR, I really liked LuLu's and had an overall great brunch experience, but in light of how I have been treated today (and trust me, I worked in the food service industry for YEARS, and regardless of how irritated or unappreciated I may have felt, I would NEVER reach out and aggressively confront a CUSTOMER), I will not be returning.

Recently came to Lulu's for brunch. Very cute restaurant. It was hopping on a Saturday morning and a little noisy, though we were sitting in the middle so maybe it's quieter on the sides. The staff was pleasant. Getting down to the nitty-gritty: Coffee - on point. Blood Mary - tasted watered down and/or maybe too much dill? We both ordered the chicken and waffles. I was extremely excited about this dish when I ordered it because I haven't had chicken and waffles in a long time. And the last time was at my fav place, Roscoe's House of Chicken and Waffles. So the food comes out and it's definitely an elevated version of my usual chicken and waffles. It looks beautiful. There was a large piece of fried chicken on top of red velvet waffles that had sausage gravy poured on top of all of it, and then house potatoes with 2 over medium eggs (which I think I ordered that way) on top. I've never had gravy with chicken and waffles, I usually only have syrup. Nonetheless, we dig in. I take a bite of the chicken, gravy, and waffle first and it is very flavorful, however, in my opinion, too flavorful. I keep eating, but I can't make out what is what. Everything is seasoned, and it tastes good... but it just seemed like it was too many seasonings. Too many divine flavors clashing maybe?! The house potatoes were amazing and the eggs were great. I think the chicken alone is probably delish and the gravy is definitely something I want to try it on something less seasoned, perhaps biscuits. All in all, I definitely want to try this place again!

Perhaps my expectations were too high after reading all of the positive reviews. It was a little frustrating that our 15 minute wait for a table turned into a 30+ minute wait because of reservation mix up with a large party which just created a domino effect. Definitely make reservations if you decide to go! We ended up snagging seats at the bar which ended up being a smart move and the bartender was great. However, the food & drinks were disappointing. The Bloody Mary's lacked spice and the horseradish flavor. I ordered the chicken and red velvet waffle which was simultaneously overcooked (the chicken) and under cooked (the waffle). It was difficult to cut the chicken because parts of it were so tough/crispy. Also, the accompanying gravy was bland. However, the potatoes and eggs on the side were very good. My husband enjoyed his shrimp and grits and I wished I had ordered that instead.

I FINALLY got here for the legendary red velvet waffle. (I'm always gone on the weekends and never have gotten around to it.) And it was as damn good as everyone claims. Seriously, I never want to eat another waffle in my life if it's not this one, and however they brew their coffee, it's weirdly exceptionally delicious black. But seriously- the strawberry sauce, that pecan cream cheese, the fluffiness and lightness of the waffle: this is the only brunch I will ever want anymore. Definitely on par with Denver's Snooze. Beautiful. A delight! I'll be back a.s.a.p! (Side-note: Get all of the waffle's fixin's on the side, because it keeps the waffle crisper and you can portion what ever sauces, whipped cream etc. you want accordingly.) PS: They serve Gavina coffee, for anyone interested, because it's damn good. (I asked, then went home and bought two tins off Amazon.)

This is a great brunch spot if you want a laid-back setting with great food. All the artwork and set-up gave a very industrial vibe. I have to say the baby dolls on the walls was a little horror-movie-esque, but other than that I liked the lay-out. Hands down some of the best potato wedges I've ever had. I got the TOA omelet and my friend got the French toast and we split meals, and my side of potatoes were so incredible we ordered a whole other side of them! The coffee was subpar, but they had a huge list of brunch cocktails you usually don't see at other spots. And the servers were really sweet, especially considering I was in an exceptionally loud, most likely annoying-to-onlookers group of bachelor-party dudes.

Awesome brunch. We showed up with 7 people for Saturday morning brunch. The staff was so accommodating and squeezed us in between reservations so we had no wait. The food and drinks were fabulous. I had the mango Bellini which was good. Then I tried the Bloody Mary with bacon. It was great. Very spicy, but that's how I think a good Bloody Mary should be. For brunch I had the lobster and egg biscuits. Each ingredient on their own was excellent, but the combination was amazing. It is topped with tomatoes, mushrooms and hollandaise sauce. It is also served with a side of breakfast potatoes that were very well seasoned.

Admittedly it was Sunday Brunch, but despite having a reservation, getting seated and being served was extremely slow. We ordered the Huevos Rancheros and the Lulu's Benedict. Huevos Racheros were very hearty and pretty tasty. The Benedict was on par with other Benedicts, however I don't think it came with the correct ham. I say this because there was another variation of a Benedict available that was made with surryano ham, while the Lulu's was made with country ham. The ham I got looked dried and nothing like a slice of country ham and was much crispy and saltier than country ham I've eaten. I know, ham may be ham and they may have their own variation, but I just wasn't used to that texture and flavor. Both dishes came with a side of breakfast potatoes that I felt were over salted, so it was hard for me to appreciate the other seasoning. Ambiance was great for Sunday brunch and I'm sure for other meals. Large windows at the front provided great lighting and I enjoyed sitting at their little booth like tables towards the middle of the restaurant. The bar area seemed really fun to sit as well. Overall, service was mediocre and food was simply 3/5 for me so I am unsure if I would recommend or return in the future.

Lulu's has a patient and friendly staff. We were seated quickly even though we arrived 10 minutes early of our reservation and our whole party was not there yet. Our server didn't mind that we were not incredibly quick with our brunch decision making. (We talked through the menu to make sure we all got something different and we could try everyone's.) We ordered a variety of their brunch drinks including the Brazilian Mimosa, Poinsettia, and Bloody Mary. All very tasty if you like to drink at brunch! The food was delicious as well. We ordered some from the specials they were having. I got a crab enchilada if I remember the name correctly. Very good and plenty of food. I ate a little more than half and was stuffed! Other people in my party got the Lobster Biscuit, French Toast, Pork Frittata, and Red Velvet Waffle. My least favorite was the frittata but I'm truly a lover of seafood and sweets!

Saturday brunch review: I made reservations on OpenTable, and was surprised to see some seats available on Sat morning. I guess we came early enough (10:30am) to beat the brunch rush while others were snoozin'! The lobster biscuit was HUGE and delicious. I was amazed at the price of $14 for two big pieces of biscuit, with egg, lobster, and potato goodness on a huge plate. Such a steal! For that price, you could barely get a teaspoon of lobster elsewhere. The red velvet waffles were also so worth the talk of the town. Soft, and served with an almond cream cheese. The waffles themselves weren't overwhelmingly sweet, and they were fluffy! Overall, Lulu's has been on my radar for the past 4 years, and I'm glad I got a chance to make it out finally. It was the perfect food to catch up over with an old friend of mine! Definitely made my morning.

I would give this place 4 stars because the food was great but princess Anna was horrible. She was super rude and seem like she hated us. If you go here don't get princess anna. I was super mad and annoyed.

Got the corned beef and also had some eggs Benedict. Poached eggs were cooked just right. Corned beef was very good, salty but not too. Bacon in the Benedict must have been porchetta, it was not Canadian or American bacon, and it was very good; crispy, salty, and a nice choice by the chef. Beware, if you don't like sriracha, you should let your server know. It was used as a garnish on both of these dishes. Oh the atmosphere was lovely as well and they had a ton on people working.

Really eclectic and unique restaurant in Shockhoe Bottom, where you feel the crumbling history of old Richmond. The Brunch: Red Velvet Waffles??? With Pecan Maple cream cheese? Brilliant!! Crab Cake Benedict? Yes Please! And my personal favorite: Chicken and Waffle. Done and done. The Decor: Creepy art with dismembered baby dolls. Black Paint. Edgy meets high school senior lounge. The Service: Our server was Sinead O'Conner. She wasn't really into it. Utensils and napkins came after the food, that sort of thing. The reality: Destination restaurant with so so execution of a unique and creative point of view. The waffles, while amazing in concept, were rubbery and ho hum. My chicken and waffle will NOT make my "best of" list. But! I will remember the creepy babies forever!!

Sigh. Another extremely average brunch location. I went in with a friend at 10 AM on a Sunday morning. The restaurant had some tables filled, but we were still seated immediately. Note: if you arrive about 30 minutes after this, you will experience a wait. SERVICE- 1 STAR We experienced poor service from beginning to end, unfortunately. I would have given it 1 star, but I thought the food deserved at least an "a-ok" rating. The waitress did not come to our table for 10 minutes after we were seated, did not introduce herself, and rushed us immediately to order. After we ordered, she brought us the check before we were even done eating (by about 15 minutes!), didn't ask us if we wanted dessert (I didn't, but you should always ask), and then kept our change without asking! I almost called the manager about this part. I always tip, even if the service is mediocre; however, it is very unprofessional to not ask a patron if they need change. She kept $3 of my friend's money and $2.50 of mine. Seriously uncool. FOOD- 2 & 3 STARS, respectively I order the CHICKEN AND RED VELVET WAFFLE. I enjoyed the texture of the waffle; the flavor of the chicken and gravy was fine. It did not blow me away as I was expecting. Unfortunately, I did not enjoy the overly salted, oily potatoes and peppers on the side. My friend ordered one of the BRUNCH SPECIALS: a biscuit with apple sausage, poached eggs, and hollandaise. The biscuit was good- buttery, dense, and moist. The apple sausage was tasty. The apple flavor was more prominent than most apple sausages I've had previously. I liked it! Her hollandaise was fine and the poached egg was also...fine. Her dish also came with a side of oil-- I mean, potatoes and peppers and flaccid asparagus. I didn't find that they took much care in preparing the dishes, nor did the server deliver a pleasant experience. I am also not a fan of Mlllie's over-priced plates of oil. I believe they share the same owner, so I probably won't give this place another go. My perfect Richmond brunch hunt continues.

Solid brunch downtown! Been here several times and it's been great each time. Typically not a wait either, which is rare for a great brunch in Richmond. Biscuits are large and delicious. Breakfast potatoes are chunks with onions and peppers. Seared goodness. Today I had a special - which i wish they would just add it to the menu! Chicken and red velvet waffle, covered with sausage gravy. Mind. Blown.Stomach full and happy Lobster biscuit is another favorite. And i do love the grilled corned beef. it's fatty and yummy. Wait staff has been attentive each time. Check out the creepy dolls in the back, just do it. lulusrichmond.com 21 N 17th St, Richmond, VA 23219 · (804) 343-9771

I reserved a table for 14 people as a post graduation brunch about a week in advance. When we arrived the hostess was very polite and had the tables ready. The food is AMAZING!!!!!! If I could eat their red velvet waffles all day I would! You have to try them. My suggestion would be to order a main brunch and for dessert get the red velvet waffles. This way you get to enjoy their brunch menu along with their waffles. Definitely coming back!!!

first, let me just say that the food was good. I got the Lulu's Benedict and the eggs Benedict itself was pretty good; but the potatoes that came on the side were a little too spicy. the eggs Benedict were cooked perfectly and the asparagus was perfectly charred. so the food isn't the reason for my poor review. it was the employees. it was valentines day and we didn't have a reservation when myself and a couple of girlfriends decided to go for brunch. the restaurant was PACKED. but we ended up getting a community table towards the back. I'm a little weirded out by the "community" table idea, but with our party of 3 in a relatively small booth we figured nobody else would try to join us. luckily the people that sat with us were a really friendly younger couple and we all instantly gelled. I ordered a Brazilian mimosa which was rum, champagne, and orange juice. it was good, but I've had better mimosas at 821. the meals were somewhat expensive... $12 for eggs Benedict? but let me get to the reason for my poor review: the fucking rudest hostess I've ever encountered. I wish I knew her name.. she was red head and young, and after we had only been there for 30 minutes, at MOST, we had finished our meals and were finishing our drinks, and she comes over and asks "are you guys leaving soon? cause we have 3 people waiting for your table". I was appalled. we had ordered our second round of drinks about 15 minutes into our meal but it took that long to get them. and obviously we were still finishing them as we sat there with still half full glasses. I can't believe that anyone would have the nerve to ask that. regardless of how long we've been there, you should never make a customer feel unwelcome. because of this i don't foresee us ever going back. the eggs Benedict wasn't THAT good to deal with that kind of treatment. and for reference, my friends and I weren't being loud or rude, we had literally been there maybe half an hour, hadn't made any requests for anything, and didn't plan to stay any longer than the time it took to finish our drinks. I'm just so disgusted with their treatment of customers.

Not sure what the hype is all about. We were excited to try this highly rated place for Sunday brunch while visiting the city. We had a reservation for 11:30, showed up before 11:20, and yet still couldn't get seated on time. To make matters worse, the door is really small and a lot of people were crowding the entrance and the hostess' stand. We were told our table was getting cleaned and we'd get it by 11:35; but we didn't get seated until I think past 11:45. Then came another round of endless waiting until we got our waitress's attention for orders. She repeatedly forgot what we'd asked her for, and after several reminders came another round of endless waiting as we checked out of the place (getting the check and getting cards back). The food was decent, but the service and our server's attitude were so terrible that I can't comprehend why people love this place. I had the grilled corned beef and it was alright. The red sauce they sprayed on the edge of our plates was spicy. My friend got the red velvet waffles and they weren't cut up and presented nicely as some of the photos on Yelp suggest. It was just a whole piece of waffles laid flat on the plate. The ambiance may be good, and I understand they were three staffers short yesterday morning, but honestly this level of performance was unacceptable. As we were waiting by the door for our reserved table way beyond our reservation time, we saw there were many empty tables but for some reason the hostess or anyone else was unable to seat any of the numerous parties waiting around and getting hungry and cranky. Some of us left $1 tips and we promptly fled the venue.

My boyfriend and I went to Lulu's for the first time for Easter brunch and loved it! I can't believe we didn't go there earlier! Everything about Lulu's was great! The space is simple yet trendy. It has great windows that let in a lot of light and has an open floor plan that can accommodate large parties. They also have a pretty sizable bar! The service was amazing. We were seated almost immediately and the waitress came over right away with waters. She was very friendly and attentive. My boyfriend ordered huevos rancheros and I ordered the red velvet waffles. We also both got drinks. Both of our orders were out in 10 min and arrived hot! We were so surprised with how quick they were, especially since it was Easter! Our food was also amazing! I was afraid that the red velvet waffles were going to be too sweet but they were perfect! I'm not sure what the proper name is but they came with this pecan butter cream thing on the side that was to die for! The huevos rancheros was very impressive. The egg was cooked perfectly - not overcooked at all. And our brunch was a great price! I was thoroughly impressed by Lulu's and will definitely return!

Made a reservation at 10:00 am for two people on a Saturday morning. When we arrived, it was pretty empty, us and about 5 other tables. We ordered 1. Chicken and Red Velvet Waffles- DELICIOUS. I was hoping the red velvet flavoring wouldn't be too overwhelming- it was spot on, just a little hint, which was perfect. I subbed the bacon in place of the potatoes- i expected two slices and got a handful, which was a nice surprise :) 2. Crab Enchilada- I didn't try a bite of this as I was full from my chicken and waffle mountain, but I heard nothing but good things- this dish was recommended by the waitress, and the plate was squeaky clean by the end of our brunch. The ding on the stars is for the iffy service, which despite there not being a lot of diners in the restaurant vs a large staff, we didn't see our waitress much and were left with un-refilled drinks. Otherwise, food was tasty, and we'll definitely be back again to try out the other brunch dishes!

I absolutely hate to leave a bad review but I feel the need to share my experience. The food was good and I really enjoyed the red velvet waffles. Our waitress, on the other hand, was incredibly rude. Throughout our dining experience we had some pretty short and awkward exchanges with our server. It was almost as if she felt that we were inconveniencing her by asking her questions about the menu or even to take our order. My bill ended up being $15.80 and I paid $16 cash - usually I just leave a tip on the table afterwards. "Princess Anna" (as her name was written on the bill) indignantly threw the check back onto the table, saying "here's your change" giving me a cold glare. (I will note that she gave me back a quarter rather than twenty cents, so I deduced that on top of her awful demeanor she also can't perform simple arithmetic; thanks for the five cents, Princess!) I would have left even a waitress like her a tip if she hadn't done that. I don't think I will be dining at Lulu's again.

Great place to brunch. The red velvet waffles...are on point... However, I did not have those this time around. Instead I opted for a burger and potatoes. Good stuff! The potatoes are good. The burger was nice and thick. Definitely a filler. There's a lot of tasty dishes on the menu so you definitely should find something to feast on. The staff is very friendly as well and they don't skimp on the adult beverages. The Brazilian Mimosa will definitely have you feeling some kind of way. ;)

BEST SUNDAY BRUNCH!!! I was quite hesitant to try this place because it wasn't our first initial plan to go to. The place we were suppose to visit was fully packed. On the other hand, I've done my research and this is one of best brunch in the city. Not really sure what the hype and stuff since I'm just visiting the area. And oh boy...I was blown away and must try this place whenever you are in the area. Do not leave this place without trying the sumptuous RED VELVET WAFFLE.

Lulu's Restaurant is a great place to grab brunch. Located right in the middle of the 17th street market in is a nice little spot to grab a good meal served by a great staff. I went on a Sunday morning shortly after they opened and the place was relatively empty. The place has a nice look to it, wide open space with limited walls, you can easily see from one side of the restaurant to the other. Nice openish kitchen so you can see the food being prepared. Staff was friendly, open warm and engaging, Food was almost perfect. I had the grilled corn beef, the only issue with this dish is the roasted potatoes were overly seasoned, way too salty. The poached eggs were cooked perfectly, great outside with a nice runny yolk. Corned beef was nicely grilled with the perfect amount of fat and salt flavor. Great brunch spot in a nice central location in Richmond.

This is one popular spot for weekend brunch. Make sure to call in and reserve a table, especially if your party is big. The service was a bit slow, but nothing out of the ordinary. Understandable given that we had seven people. The atlantic omelette that I got was delicious. It was worth the high price tag for me, especially for those delectable potatoes; everyone at the table agreed about them. I got a bite of my girlfriend's red velvet waffles, and I didn't think they were worth the hype. Pretty good, just not transcendent. It's just food coloring, people.

Lulu's has an extremely solid, affordable brunch! We went on a Sunday morning with another couple and were able to get a reservation the night before. It was pretty empty when we arrived but filled up quickly and appeared to have a wait. The restaurant has an upscale diner feel- you can see in to the kitchen and the decor is awesome. But the food is just good, down home diner-ish food that is clearly homemade. We were impressed overall and would definitely return. I had the biscuits and gravy- which were enough for two people, easily. The biscuit was delicious and the gravy was peppery and spicy- just like I like it. My husband had the corn beef and was also impressed. Lulu's is a solid brunch spot in the bottom, but I would recommend a reservation if you are going on Saturday or Sunday morning and would prefer not to wait!

Since my roommate and I heard so much about the infamous red velvet waffle, Lulu's was on our list of restaurants to try before graduate. Too bad this place didn't live up to the hype. First, the interior is a bit... strange. I have nothing against dolls but man, those dolls on the wall were creeper. Guess I'm just not artistic enough to appreciate it. Service was slow. After a long waiting time (and we had a reservation), we were seated in a dark corner and promptly being forgotten. Our waitress consistently forgot to bring us our water despite us reminding her multiple times. I'm sure she is very busy but seriously, all we want were water... Onto the food, I ordered the special of the day, which I forgot the name, and shared the red velvet waffle for dessert. The entree dish was...okay. Wasn't memorable (hence me forgetting the name of the dish). The red velvet waffle was better but not spectacular. Sure it melt in your mouth and was delightful to look at but it was just waffle. If it wasn't for the red color, I would assume that they mixed up our order and gave us regular waffle instead. So, would I come back to Lulu's again? Sadly, not likely. This whole experience can be sum up into one word: forgettable.

Only place i'll go for brunch in Richmond, I don't always go to brunch but when I do this is the place I go. Not kidding the chorizo frittata and red velvet waffles changed my life, haha. I would highly recommend to anyone to go here. They're also great for private dinners, we had our rehearsal dinner here. The owners were great and made our special night go off without a hitch.

Brunch was good. The service was nice and easy and we were seated quickly. I had the lobster biscuit and potatoes and loved it. I also tasted the red velvet waffles.. I do think it would've been better served with a pecan fraiche/ syrup mix- but the cream cheese or syrup alone was okay.

I will not be back to Lulu's. The service is insanely poor. We made online reservations and once we stepped inside, we were told that the "online service" was supposed to be taken down and not used anymore. The welcoming staff made it seem like it was our fault for using it. We were required to wait behind other people who made reservations by stopping in, rather than online. The online service should've been taken down if they no longer use it, but that's not the customer's fault. Also, the food service is INCREDIBLY SLOW. We waited around 1 hour for our food to be served after ordering and our waitress only checked in on us twice. This restaurant is in need of better management and organization.

Literally JUST had brunch there. The food was amazing, the mimosas were perfect, but DONNA was absolutely PHENOMENAL! She was very attentive, personable and just a Saturday delight. She's awesome! Even if the food was subpar (it was delicious), my party and I would return because of her. THANK YOU, DONNA!

Very quant and tasty brunch spot. I saw good yelp reviews and decided to give this place a go. They had a wonderful selection of different brunch items on the menu. I decided to go with the pork breakfast burrito and it was delicious. The home fries on the side were also wonderful. I liked the look and feel on the inside. It was very cozy with cool staff that didn't rush, and even spent time just shooting the breeze if you wanted. They had a full bar selection so you could get your drink on during brunch. I did have an issue with the Bloody Mary. It basically tasted like vodka and tomato juice, no spice or kick to it at all. My friend tried it and also agreed that it was very bland. I do not recommend it at all. I thought I could make it better by adding salt, lemon and some tabasco, but they only have Siracha as their hot sauce, which i didn't think would be a good fit. I suggest getting a Mimosa if you are gonna brunch here. The food is great and it is hard to mess that drink up. It is a great spot for groups and I promise you will enjoy the meal.

I've been to LuLu's for brunch a couple of times now, and every time has been enjoyable! I highly recommend a reservation just to be safe. I was told to try the fried chicken and red velvet waffles & it was amazing! The waffle was fluffy and a little sweet, but paired greatly with the savory gravy and chicken. The potatoes served with the dishes are just okay. They seem a little oily. This last time I went to brunch, I had the scrambled eggs and lobster biscuit and it was so good! There were large pieces of lobster in it, the biscuit was flaky, and the sauce was just great! My friend got the shrimp and grits, and that dish was great too!!All of the flavors and textures went together really nicely. There were large shrimp and the grits were well done. Service can be a little slow at times, but they're very busy Sunday mornings since they open only for brunch on Saturday and Sundays. Definitely coming back!

I've had some wonderful experiences here at LuLu's on repeated visits. Located next to the farmers market it's a great place to grab brunch on the weekend during the spring and summer and then do some shopping. They are only open for brunch on Saturday and Sunday and dinners only on Friday and Saturday night so not a week day spot. They do a small meal of items but they do them well. My favorite brunch item is the Pork Burrito and I advise you bring an appetite because holy moly it's big. Other items that are good (feedback from friends that dined with me) are the Huevos Rancheros and the Chilaquiles. The plating of the food here is simple but attractive. Our waitress on the last visit was Sarah and she was wonderful and attentive. She keep up with our table on drinks and the food came out quickly and together. (Bravo to the kitchen too for this one.) She didn't blink an eye or have any issue when we needed to split the check between the 5 of us. If you find yourself down near the bottom on the weekend I would highly recommend Lulu's as a dining spot for brunch. If you've ever eaten at Millie's they are owned by the same person and you will see some similarities in the food style and offerings.

Food was ahh-mazing. Place was packed with hip people partying hard for 11 a.m. on a Saturday! Probably the hottest staff In town, especially the manager, (yum)! Will be back often for more Mimosas and Bloody Mary's! Don't miss this place!

We unfortunately decided to go to Lulu's based on all the positive reviews and encountered the miserable Morgan. Not sure who pissed in her coffee that morning, but her attitude was extremely pissy. I have frequented many restaurants and I understand waitresses can sometimes be over whelmed, however it does not give an excuse for poor customer service, which was what Morgan gave us during our visit. I will say, the other waitresses that attempted to help us while we waited to speak to the manager were very nice and accommodating. After my experience based solely on customer service, I suggest if you try Lulu's request any other waitress other than the miserable Morgan.

There is nothing more I could have asked for from LuLu's throughout our entire experience. Our group of 5 unsuccessfully got into the the neighboring competition named C'est le Vin (when they were supposed to be open). LuLu's accepted us with open arms and a big smile, starting with the hostess. Our server, Sarah, was beyond amazing. She always kept a positive attitude and anticipated our needs. She took our drink & entree orders while also giving great recommendations when we were undecided. Close to closing time? "No worries" said Sarah! Every drink and food order was made correctly and deliciously. I tried every dish that came out of our group, so I know. Delectable, every single bite. Promise! Sarah consistently came by to check on us and anticipated our needs. She even asked with ease if we'd like our checks separated, although no server really wants to go through the hassle. All with a smile. I am beyond appreciative with how comfortable Sarah made us feel. She should be proud of how well she does her job & keep up the good work. With people like her, and great food, LuLu's will continue to prosper easily.

Despite the babies hanging on the wall, the Chorizo Frittatas is a must have! The chorizo was really fresh. The combination of flavors was amazing.

Luckily this was the least amount of stars that I could give! We get to this restaurant and our waitress (Morgan) doesn't even introduce herself to us. We ended up having to ask her for her name. It took her about 30 minutes after we sat down just to ask what we would like to eat. Her demeanor was extremely unpleasant. We didn't have an opportunity to experience the meal and ended up speaking to the GM about the situation. From there, we ended up leaving and going elsewhere. If you're into horrible customer service, then this is the place for you. If not, don't waste your time.

I really enjoyed this place...last time! They were very good about honoring my reservation details. However, the French toast was pretty mushy (I know it's soaked bread practically, but it may not have been fully cooked.). Just like last time, the side of potatoes were amazing and had the awesome kick. It seemed like we waited a lot, though the place wasn't that full or busy. Sure, I'll go back, again, but that's mostly due to the first experience. Give it a try...or don't.

Easiest 5 star rating I've ever given. Every single one of these stars were earned! I had some concerns after reading reviews but decided to give Lulu's a chance. I'm just glad I'm only visiting, if I lived here I'd eat here all the time. Despite being busy and it being a Sunday, we were seated right away and the waitress was great. I finally decided on the Atlantic Omelette. It was terrific. I was worried there would be a fishy taste with the seafood but the lobster and crab was sweet and fresh, the bacon was cooked perfectly and the Hollandaise was just right. The house potatoes had a little spice but it was just right. My friend had the Huevos Racheros. They had a great balance of spices. We decided to split the Red Velvet Waffle. That was my only regret....I regretted not ordering another one. Those things are addictive. Next time in Richmond I'll be sure to wear loose pants and come by again.

Absolutely hands down the best brunch in Richmond Va. The eggs Benedict is phenomenal. Also indulge yourself in the red velvet waffles. Drinks are great as well! The staff is incredibly friendly and service is always quick but be sure to make a reservation because it stays busy! Why wouldn't it be??

I truly want to give 5 stars because the food was really really awesome. The red velvet was so delicious along with the Atlantic omelette. However, my service was really rude. She would never make eye contact and never refilled my drinks but refilled everyone else's drinks. She never checked up on how my meal was or even ask if I needed anything. If It was based on service I wouldn't go back. I hope Lulu's looks into this.

This review is based on service. Unfortunately, I did not have the opportunity to experience their famous red velvet waffles. Our waitress, Morgan did not provide the most welcoming service. Slamming water glasses, plates of food on the table, and arguing back and forth as to why she felt we didn't deserve pleasant customer service. She never checked in on our table nor did she care to look our way. When asked to speak with the manager, he wasn't even there. We had to waste 30 minutes to an hour waiting to hear from him that Morgan was having a bad day and that he apologized for her behavior. I probably will give this place another try and if I do, I will not be sitting with Morgan. A good waitress that is skilled at their job should always be able to contain their frustration or bad day and this one was far from being able to do that.

Hands down one of my favorites brunch in rva. It is as good as Millie's but not as packed and people are not over your face while you are trying to enjoy your brunch as at Millie's. The service is good and the food consistence but their seafood entrees are not their forte.

Arrived at 2pm and was sat by the window. Loud brunch crowd for sure but good comfortable table and AC. Ordered a mimosa and it came with a hair in it. Did not complain. Food arrived within 10 min hot and very appetizing look. Potatoes were well over seasoned and gave me a sodium overdose. The Lulus Benedict had a perfectly poached eggs and asparagus was well cooked as well. I would say this place is god but would need another visit.

I can't believe I haven't reviewed this place after the number of times I've eaten here. I'd give em 5 stars if the service would've been better. Our party of 6 was promptly seated for brunch yesterday and out drink orders were promptly taken but that's where it ends. One of my party noticed our drinks becoming watered down waiting at the bar, and we got them 45 min later AFTER our good arrived. Other than that, our visit was great! I got the Atlantic Omelette (lobster, crab, bacon, hollandaise) - phenomenal. I have one major complaint about omelettes is that they are usually dry/rubbery when I order them out but not this time. Others got huevos rancheros, biscuits and gravy, and tomato avocado omelette and everyone seemed pleased. I tried the bfs biscuits and gravy and it was amazing. Great experience, but have to deduct one star for service.

Update: 2/15/14 Another stellar experience at Lulu's!! After C'est le Vin lost our business on Saturday afternoon we immediately though to take our group of five over to Lulu's for lunch. Both Leah S. and I have had great meals here and knew our friends would enjoy this place too. We were sat and immediately greeted by our server Sarah who told us about the daily specials and took our drink order. I had the chorizo frittata this time around, it was to die for. Massive amounts of chorizo and green peppers and amazingly spiced roasted potatoes. I really appreciate that our food came out at the same time. This is a pet peeve of mine. Sarah was an exceptional server. We didn't realize that they closed at 3:00, so when we arrived at 2:00 and placed five entrée orders we were very apologetic. Sarah however was the epitome of class and grace assuring us that this was absolutely not a problem and to not be sorry at all. She also had no problem with splitting our check five ways since we were all paying separately. I have consistently good experience with Lulu's and I really encourage anyone in the 'bottom area to come here for Brunch! PS... I am happy to report that still have the babies hanging on the wall!

I was in Richmond visiting friends this past weekend, and my friends who are local to the area recommended Lulu's for brunch on Saturday. I had high hopes for it, but was very disappointed with my food. I ordered the Shockoe Bottom Florentine, the ham on the english muffins came out very dry, and the poached eggs were completely overcooked, no runny yolk at all. I can honestly say these poached eggs were the worst I've ever had. Overall, the entree just didn't look that appetizing. To be fair, the entrees that my friends ordered turned out decent, so maybe it's just my dish that's really terrible. I'm not sure if the kitchen staff was just having an off day, or if this restaurant's food is normally inconsistent, but I would not recommend it.

Can you say Mouth party ? chicken and red velvet waffles were so goOd and filing. I had them put the waffle toppings to the side for me and I the pecan cream cheese with strawberry drizzle are amazing! I found a new brunch spot. So sad I haven't visited sooner. Also try their stone ground pimento grits. So yummy. Also the brazilian mojito is so good!

So disappointed. I won't bury the lead - spend your money elsewhere. Someplace where they understand the value of a happy customer (repeat business, word of mouth recommendations, etc.). We had brunch reservations for Father's day - which didn't matter. We waited 30 minutes past our reservation time. When we asked about our table, we were told that we (as a party of 3) could only be seated at one of the 3, three-top tables. When I suggested that a 4 top table could certainly work, I was told no, it was bad for the restaurant. I said that unhappy customers are bad for restaurants. Her response - "We have the best brunch in Richmond, so we'll be just fine". Really? Newsflash - there are better restaurants in Richmond that actually appreciate the paying customer. Take your money and enjoy a great meal in Richmond at someplace (soooo many good choices that aren't Lulu's) that cares about having you as a customer.

Great food, comfortable environment, but...the hostess was really rude. I mean rude to the point in which we were about to drop the mimosas we ordered while waiting for seats and walk out. Not to mention it was another hostesses first day, not the best example to set. One person can really ruin an establishments first impression.

Since my last review Lulu's has become a weekend only restaurant. A little sad that business hasn't been as good for them. Brunch is excellent. Had one of the best biscuits and gravy I've had in Richmond (and I've had alot!). The biscuits are crispy and the gravy is just a little different than most. Lot of sausage chunks and red pepper. The dish comes with potatoes and 2 fried eggs. I kind of wish they didn't also have the eggs because it is too much food and I hate wasting it! Everyone else also enjoyed their meals which included omelets, a pork dish and eggs benedict. Unless you want a Mess, the brunch food is very similar to Millie's which must less (or no) wait.

  • Miranda F.

The food is really good but pricey. The drinks are pricey also but they are generally pretty big portions and heavily poured, so that makes up for it. The only thing that really bothers me about lulu's is the dress code. I've been here twice and both times the seating hostess was dressed really skimpy, showing a LOT of skin, and I feel like it was pretty inappropriate for a place where people are eating.

Once again the service and food were both A++. The hostess did a great job of multitasking. Though my Moscow Mule wasn't that great, it was still a great experience. Grandma can't wait to go back. Green waffle and chicken plate.

Came here on a Sunday at around 11am, and it was some of the best breakfast and brnch food. Too bad I wanted to come on Monday, but they were closed. The LuLu's Benedict was smashing. I don't think I have has any Ham (Canadian bacon) with Eggs Benedict, that was better. The egg was poached really well. It wasn't all over the place, and cooked just perfectly. The staff is really friendly. They use fresh ingredients, and they cook after they get your order. But, that does not mean that it takes too long. If you like amazing, fresh, local food, you have GOT to try LuLu's food.

What a breakfast! This is a gem of a place. Spurred on by the ratings on Yelp and detailed reviews, I picked this spot for breakfast with my lady friend this morning. Stepping out from the semi-bleak, tired cityscape into LuLu's, we were greeted by friendly staff and wonderful decor. Simple yet industrial, with hints of Americana, I felt comfortable in a casual yet classy scene. The simple menu had so many solid choices, it took a few minutes to choose what we would have. The French roast coffee I sipped while deciding was smooth and strong, better than any restaurant coffee I can remember. I skipped the adult beverage while my companion enjoyed her mimosa, which she said was excellent. Upon the advice of our server, we stuck with the biscuits and gravy and huevos rancheros that caught out attention from the menu. The food was served quickly and at the correct temperature. Unfortunately, the huevos rancheros came with the rancheros sauce on top, as opposed to on the side as it was ordered. This was identified as a kitchen error and promptly sent back as we got to work on the biscuits and gravy. The eggs were done perfectly, potatoes were amazing. The gravy and sausage were DELICIOUS atop buttery, hearty biscuits that had just enough crisp baked unto them. Beware if you're sensitive to spice as these had quite a kick! I love spicy foods so this was right up my alley, while being maybe a notch or two too hot for my friend. The Sriracha drizzled on the edge of the plate went well with the creamy, rich gravy. Not your traditional country gravy, which is just what I needed. It's nice to see they took license with a classic breakfast and hit a home run. The second attempt at the huevos rancheros arrived with the sauce on the side but the eggs not cooked to order. The server noticed upon checking back (major points for attention to detail), and offered to send it back again but we decided to eat them as is. They were great. The pico de gallo was fresh, with diced (not seeded) jalapeño that had a nice heat. The ranchero sauce had plenty of garlic, and it was so good I actually ate it straight out of the ramekin on its own! The server asked us to choose a dessert on the house a minute or two before the manager stopped by to apologize for the "huevos debacle". We told her it was fine and that we'll definitely come back. Our Guinness cake was awesome. Great taste and texture... The Bailey's buttercream icing was light and whipped. Our overall experience was excellent. No wait, great food, topnotch service in a clean and attractive environment... This place fully deserves the five stars we feel it has earned today!

We walked in and felt a little self-conscious as the oldest folks there. A hipster hangout. No waiting for a table. The service was slow but polite. The food was delicious. Tends to be on the spicy side- I loved it, a little hotter than desired for my wife. Would definitely go back.

Lulu's is AWESOME! I've been there almost every weekend since I moved to Richmond about 10 months ago and I've have tried nearly everything on the menu. The food is fantastic and the hostess/servers/bartender are friendly, accomodating, very attractive women. Aside from the brunch food they surprisingly have one of the best burgers I've had in Richmond. I can't reccomend this restaurant highly enough.

I've never been to Lulu's before. My friends and I decided we would go out this morning instead of our usual at home brunch as no one really felt like cooking. We arrived just after 10AM and asked for a table for four. The restaurant was practically empty-Maybe three or four tables sat and an empty bar. The hostess was initially very friendly and asked if we had a reservation. We did not. She was immediately displeased and made it seem like it was a really big issue (I can see the reservation list on the monitor behind her). She stopped, looked around and in almost a snooty tone said "Well, I guess we can do it this time but next time try to make a reservation". Yes, this is exactly the tone I want to start my Sunday morning off with. How rude. Our server was very nice. Her attire seemed a little odd for a restaurant worker. She was wearing sneakers, jeans, and a black zip up hoody zipped about 1/3 of the way. An emphasis on casual, I guess. That was fine but I was a little put off that her long hair wasn't tied back and she had sunglasses on top of her head. Other than that she was helpful in answering our questions and delivering our beverages and meals in a timely friendly manner. We certainly did not want for anything. The food was excellent. Prices are very fair and timing was great. My friends got one of the omelettes on special and Red velvet waffle. So good! I got the Shrimp and Grits. The eggs were poached perfectly and there was no shortage of shrimp in my dish. Very flavorful and really hit the Sunday Brunch spot. Our plates were cleared as each person finished and checks were right on time. The only "issue" was I was charged for a Brazilian Mimosa when I had ordered the poinsettia- only a dollar difference so I didn't care to dispute it. Over all a very good experience. The decor is fun and it has the perfect amount of light (some places just seem so dark). I would have given it a 5 star rating but the host was rude and even if it was an issue there is a right way to address it and a wrong way.

  • Travis R.

Unbelievably rude hostess. We were the only people in the restaurant and she insisted we sit at a table too small for our party under the freezing ac vent. Our concerns were not her concerns so our business is no longer theirs either.

  • David B.

Make a reservation! It's only open on Saturdays and Sundays, so you run the risk of waiting a moment while a table clears. We faced a 30 minute wait, but were lucky enough to be seated within 10. The Grilled Corn Beef was on point. I was concerned that the sriracha was on the table because it's the popular thing to do, but it was good with both the corned beef and home fries. The surprise hit was the toast which was ordered to soak up the egg yolk, mostly as an afterthought. The Crab Omelet was rich and delicious; the goat cheese contrasted well with the crab meat. It was a bit louder than I'd expected, but it wasn't terribly obtrusive. It was pricey for a brunch, but the menu is also more sophisticated than an Applebee's or Max and Erma's. Service was outstanding. I'd have no reservation recommending Lulu's to anyone.

My boyfriend and I were looking for a spot for brunch and Lulu's did not disappoint. I hear the wait is pretty long but we got in late (close to 2pm) and we got a table immediately. We decided to order two different dishes so we could share and pick off each other's plates. After some deliberation he chose the fried chicken and red velvet waffles (obviously) and I chose the TOA omelette which the waitress said was the second most popular item on the menu. After a little bit of time the food came and we dug in. The TOA omelette included cheese, onions, tomatoes topped with a piece of avocado (which I wished was a more generous portion). The omelette was delicious but I was craving something a bit more savory. The sautéed potatoes that came as a side did add a bit more of the salty taste that I was craving. A piece of bacon could have added another layer of flavor to the omelette. Next time I think I'll try the eggs Benedict or the chorizo frittata. The fried chicken and red velvet waffles was also very tasty without being too decadent. My favorite part of that dish was the gravy that was topped on the fried chicken. My one recommendation would be that the waffles be less soft and a bit more crispy. The food and service was great. We will be back!

I tried the red velvet waffle and it was just ok. It definitely LOOKS amazing but doesn't taste as good as it looks. The server was nice but didn't really do much for us. Just took our order and gave us the check. The environment is definitely really cute and not crowded like most local diners. I will definitely go back again to try the Flank Steak or Lobster Bisque!

Absolutely amazing Brunch! The Lulu's Benedict was phenomenal! Amongst the best I've ever had, and I've had many. The Red Velvet Waffles were also amazing. I rarely bookmark restaurants, but this one is definitely worth a return visit to Richmond for!

The boyfriend and I went to Lulu's for brunch... it was PACKED! We had to wait in the tiniest waiting area--it was too cold to stand outside. After about 30 minutes, some seats opened at the bar; however, the bartender (one) was so busy--she was making all the drinks for everyone in the restaurant. She was super-nice, but it took a long time for us to get drinks and order food. When the food finally arrived, it smelled delicious... but the presentation made it look unappetizing and sloppy. My Huevos Rancheros looked like slop. I was so disappointed and disgusted, I hardly ate any of it. We ended up taking my meal home, which we threw away--it wasn't edible after being reheated. What a shame! I don't think we will be back anytime soon, for brunch, that is.

Lulu's is far and away my favorite spot for brunch. Lulu's is one of the few places I try to make sure friends and family from out of town get to try before heading home. The selection of seafood-related specials are fantastic. The Atlantic Omelette, the Benedict, and the Red Velvet Waffles particularly are worthy of return visits. If you can't decide, we've found that the Red Velvet Waffles are sometimes too sweet for some of our friends (dessert for breakfast!), so we've started ordering them to split among the table with the regular meal. A reservation is also a smart idea and we've never run into an issue setting up trips using Open Table.

I wanted to love this place. Perhaps I was too expectant after reading so many glowing reviews. The hostess gave away our table away after 15 minutes. We called when we left, but live 35 minutes away. Yep, we traveled a decent bit to get there only to realize we had to wait anyway. This was not good, since we had our toddler with us. It didn't take super long to sit down, but by the time we did our little one was already quite unhappy. Our food was good, but hardly amazing, and took WAY TOO LONG to get there. The bartender was actually the one who served us, and he seemed overwhelmed. The experience was just poor overall, honestly. One waitress had most of her midsection bared for all patrons to see, which is just not professional or cute. Apparently, they also had a big birthday party in the dining room that morning. The party was very loud, and guests stood up like they were leaving after a bit, but then decided to hang around and converse for another 15 or 20 minutes. Hardly an enjoyable experience for us, unfortunately. We won't be going back. Food was pretty good, everything else not so much.

I can't believe I forgot to review this place. We stopped here on our drive back from Myrtle Beach. When we parked the family kind of gave me a funny face because it did not seem like it was in a good neighborhood. I thought it was fine. Then they really got nervous when we cut down an alley to get there. But there's really no issue. So the red velvet waffles were the big hit with the family still talk about them months later. I had to Huevos rancheros and my son had the corned beef Everything was excellent and we are definitely going to come back when we go for college visits this year. May have to visit the University of Richmond twice just so we can come back And University of Richmond isn't even on the list.

I was thoroughly impressed! As a person that goes out to eat like ALL THE TIME, I'm rarely, if ever, impressed with restaurants these days. Great food, chic and eclectic decor, nice ambiance along with prompt, attentive service makes this my new spot! I'll be back!

I had bunch at Lulu's Restaurant on a Sunday morning. Arriving early paid off because the restaurant wasn't too crowded. The restaurant became busy while we were eating. I heard good things about Lulu's red velvet waffle. My mind was made up on ordering the red velvet waffle. Lulu's red velvet waffle is served with pecan cream cheese and fruit. I liked the presentation of my meal. The red velvet waffle definitely lived up to the hype (delicious).I enjoyed each bite of the waffle. The pecan cream cheese served with the waffle made my taste buds jump. The pecan cream cheese complimented the waffle better than maple syrup. The waffle was small (not as big as a Belgian waffle). If the waffle was bigger,I would bump Lulu's up to a 4. Service was average. The employees were friendly. Parking is hit or miss especially on weekends. I give Lulu's Restaurant a 3.5 rating on my first visit.

Everyone said this was a good brunch place and I agree. It was nicer inside than I expected- modern artsy warehouse. The food was tasty and so was the bloody mary. The service was very slow, though, or I would have given it five stars.

LuLu's has the best brunch I've had in years. The hostess did a good job at welcoming and seating us promptly. The waitress was really cool. She carried a conversation with my girlfriend for a few minutes and even shared information about other great places to eat and places to see in Richmond. I ordered something called the chicken chinquinta (sp?)... it was the most eclectic meal I have ever eaten. It had a wonderfully seasoned creamy chicken covered in nachos topped with a fried egg, pico de gallo, cilantro and a soft bath of squeezed lemon over the whole thing. The whole thing worked incredibly well together. I was very impressed I discovered a new combination of flavors that makes you feel refreshed and savor-full at the same time. The cost was very reasonable altogether. I will definitely be coming back and recommending this place. My only wish: I WISH THEY OPENED EVERY DAY so I could have this amazing food during the week.

My friend made a reservation for 1pm last Sunday for brunch. In fact my friend called if we could come earlier (like 12:30pm) since we are ahead of time, but the lady who answered the phone said that there's no available seats until our reservation. We arrived 5 mins before our reservation and the hostess said that there's no available table yet. Instead of being apologetic and accommodating, the hostess just gave us a nasty attitude saying that reservations means holding the wait for that time. As far as my experience and knowledge knows, reservations mean that a party should be seated by that time. The hostess went to the manager, and so the manager came and said that they are just waiting for a party to leave so we could have our table. My other friend speaking to the hostess (being hungry and pissed off) said that this is not the way reservations are. And the nasty hostess even raised her voice to my friend. Without even apologizing of the situation. The hostess may be annoyed with us as well but she has no reason to be rude. Unacceptable. You don't treat costumers that way. We actually felt that the hostess is being a racist with her attitude. And when the table was ready after 20 mins of waiting the hostess didn't even lead us to the table. Very unprofessional. This is the worst hostess service experience I had with my travelling life. On the other hand, our waitress took care of us. She's very apologetic with the hold of our table and made us feel a little bit better. That's how costumers should be treated. Food was great. I tried the chicken breast and red velvet waffle. Portion was enough, waffle was soft and chicken was juicy. I do hope that the manager takes care of "services" like this coz this has a lot of impact to people local or out-of-towners.

My husband wanted a great plate of biscuits and gray while we were in town. We found it here! I had a few test bites, and I'm not sure which was better - the biscuit or the gravy! I ordered the chicken and red velvet waffle. The chicken was great, but I was a bit disappointed to be served a bright green waffle in honor of St. Patrick's Day. Was told that the waffle was the same, just colored green for the weekend. (What makes it red velvet on any other day? Food coloring, no cocoa?). The potatoes that came with it were too painfully spicy to eat, but admittedly I have a low spice threshold. (My husband loved them, it's all a matter of taste!) Coffee was great, which is always a nice surprise. Also, tip of the hat to our server and a manager for checking on a food allergy question for me, I wish every restaurant took the question that seriously! Well done.

I thought Lulu's was known to be a go-to place for brunch in the area..it always seems to be packed, so a few friends and I went for a nice Sunday morning. The service was slow and I felt like a jerk for asking for a knife, but eh, not a big deal, I don't really care about service. I care about the food. I rated them low because instead of the pretty real sliced strawberries you see in these yelp pictures you actually get canned strawberries on your french toast, and instead of tasty thick bread you get what seemed to be wonderbread. The english muffins were all soggy even though the food had just come out. The burger was meh, but it was literally ground beef, lettuce, tomato, etc, with no sauce or anything special. I'm seeing a pattern of Yelp reviews in Shockoe Bottom being thoroughly inflated.

The lobster biscuits are so good that it's almost sinful. Paired with a mimosa, you have the perfect brunch to end the week before and start a new one.

Really happy I found this spot for brunch! What a gem! First let me recommend the Momosa. I love breakfast cocktails and this is one of the best - it's champagne, pomegranate liquor and oj AKA happiness in a glass. My usual brunch entree is huevos rancheros and I love comparing different versions. Lulu's huevos rancheros were delish, I polished my plate off no problem. It was a bit messy and I wish that the fried eggs weren't soooo runny but the mix of black beans, onions and cheese on the corn tortilla shell was on point! I tried some of the steak burrito and it had a solid amount of steak in it which was not grizzly at all and prepared well. I also tried the Bacon Bloody Mary which was made with bacon infused vodka and topped with celery and bacon. Overall a heavenly brunch with above average service! Yay!

I am very happy with my last minute decision of stopping by here. I just randomly searched for a brunch spot on a Sunday and this came up. We were told that it was going to be an hour wait however it was not....more like 30 mins. I will remember to make reservations next time. Our food came out shortly after we sat down which was very surprising due to the restaurant being so pack. I ordered the crab omelet which was hot until the last bite. I decided to get pineapple juice in my mimosa and it was good and strong (Dont judge me). I will be returning with reservations.

We had a delicious Sunday Brunch. Call ahead or come early because many tables were already reserved but we didn't have to wait for seats at the bar. My Eggs Florentine hit the spot. Thankfully St. Patrick's Day is only once a year, the Tres Leches Cake was sad and soggy.

Great place to have brunch on a Sunday. Like most great brunch places try to get a reservation in or expect a moderate wait time. Food was excellent; they have great brunch classics like Eggs Benedict and chicken and waffles. Great ambiance , very good brunch cocktails, and friendly waitstaff. My only gripes were the tres leche cake was a little to dry for my taste and the ceiling fans near the restrooms have about and inch layer of caked on dust. Try to get seated in the main dinning room area or eat at the bar.

A friend and I were looking for somewhere we had not yet been to have Bruch; we found LuLu's. Got there early Saturday morning; they'd recently opened so there was absolutely no crowd. Plus. The entryway into the restaurant smelled like dog pee. Negative. We proceeded hoping the smell was not indicative of how our experience would be; thankfully it was not. Waitress was initially friendly and allowed us to take our time ordering. (we talked for a bit first). Both of us ordered their special Mimosa. Yum. I got chicken and waffles and she got an omelet. Neither of us eat pork and my friend doesn't like tomatoes. We both asked for substitutions, which presented no problems for the waitress or the chef. Plus. Chicken and waffles came with the infamous "red velvet" waffles, two eggs and potatoes. I am not as gaga over red velvet as other Southerners, but was pleasantly surprised at how much I liked the waffles. Friend got an omelet with onions, avocado, etc. Her entrée also came with potatoes and she was pleased with her choice as well. As a red velvet fan, she tasted my waffle and gave it a thumbs up. Got our checks with a "no rush" comment from the waitress. We continued catching up and finishing our drinks. At one point the waitress returned for the checks, but we were not yet ready. Her response, "okay, but we are getting a little busy and may need the table soon." Excuse me? What did she just say? Negative. This comment was reflected in her tip. Overall, LuLu's was a good experience, until the end, and I definitely saw other things on the menu that I would like to try. When we left, the front door was open and the smell was gone. Thank goodness.

Sister to Millie's, the place is right by the farmer's market. My friends and I came here for Sunday brunch and even made reservations expecting a crowd. We got there right when it opened and surprised there wasn't a big rush like Millie's. I prefer this place more since it's not too crowded for seating and they provide actual menus over just a chalkboard. the food. -chorizo frittata (pictured): This was so tasty! I was worried it was gonna be too spicy for me (not a big fan of spicy), but it was just enough heat for this newbie. It comes with a side of potatoes and I wish there was a warning for these since I found it to be seasoned with more spice. I couldn't handle it, but my friends ate theirs right up! the service. Our waitress was so nice to answer all our menu questions. She offered some great suggestions that my friend's enjoyed (huevos rancheros). Very attentive as our coffee mugs were constantly refilled. Overall, spice is not my thing and I've been knowing that. I was happy to try it out here, but I can't wait to try something with less heat!

Tried this place for the second time and it was just as great as the first time. I had the crab omelet and red velvet waffles .both really amazing ...waffles come with a cream cheese pecan spread which is great! Not too sweet..next time in the rva I will try this place again.

I have been here several times and I have always been satisfied with the quality of their food. Its a great place for brunch. My favorite from the menu is the Biscuit and Gravy! The biscuit is freshly cooked and gravy has generous chunks of quality sausages!

I came here for brunch on Sunday at 1pm. Surprisingly, there was not a wait at all and we were greeted and sat promptly. This was great! We knew for sure we were going to order the red velvet waffles to share. I ordered the lobster biscuit, and my friend ordered the pork chiliques. Their service was great! The food came out within minutes of ordering. The food was also amazing. The lobster biscuit came out with a generous portion. The biscuits were nice and warm with the lobster, mushroom, eggs and tomatoes over it. They were not greedy with lobster meat, every bite I took had a huge amount of meat. It was very flavorful and the hollandaise sauce paired perfectly. My friend said the pork chiliques were really good also. There was a lot of meat! Lastly, the waffles. ALWAYS AN AMAZING CHOICE. I love the berries and the cream cheese that comes along with it. I will definitely be coming back!

During my travels to Richmond, I visited this restaurant with a friend for brunch. I found the atmosphere to be trendy and lively. There was a short wait for brunch when we arrived, which may have been due to limited wait staff, because there were multiple tables available to guest. Once seated after our 15-20min. wait, we received a delayed greeting by the wait staff. The menu selection was extensive for brunch, which allowed for great choice variation. I ordered a white cheddar, onion, tomato egg white omelet with avocado; the food presentation was stellar, and definitely added to the dining experience. With the affordable pricing, developed food menu, and complete ambiance I would definitely revisit this restaurant in the future.

Having already tried Millie's for brunch the last time we were in Richmond, we decided to try somewhere else (this was actually a couple of weekends ago - but I've only just got around to writing this review). Lulu's has amazing reviews on Yelp, so we decided to give it a go. Having seen the madness that was Millie's for Sunday brunch, I called ahead to Lulu's to see what the wait was like. Apparently, there was a short wait for a table, but no wait at the bar. Great! So, we got down there about 10 minutes later and parked on the street almost in front of the restaurant...this was turning out to be our day! We waited a couple of minutes to get a seat at the bar (as there were only 2 of us) then finally nestled ourselves into our corner in between a local chap (very knowledgeable about the area) and a couple of lads from Portsmouth up in Richmond for a gig. We met Sam, the bar tender who then proceeded to pour us a pint (yes...a pint) of mimosa! I was not disappointed! I ordered one of the specials - the fish tacos - and because of the hungover nature of my hunger I was a little disappointed to get only 2 fairly small tacos and a very small portion of the home fries (which are delicious). However, once I'd worked my way through both tacos and the potatoes I was completely satisfied (however, I would have still preferred a larger portion of the home fries because potatoes are just my thing - any way, shape, how, hot or cold - whether I'm hungry or not!) There is much more space in Lulu's compared to Millie's (and I'm comparing them because they are owned by the same people) so the atmosphere was much more relaxed. The bar tenders were friendly (and not too bad on the eyes), but the company at the bar really made the whole experience even more enjoyable. I usually opt to sit at a table for privacy, but after this experience I'll be opting for the bar more often. I'd highly recommend giving this place a try (and apparently it is only currently opened at the weekend!), and the only reason I didn't give a 5 is because of the small portion of home fries.

Nice place to eat breakfast or brunch. They offer a lot of deals. The only negative I saw was they use open table a lot. as a walk in we had trouble getting seated. When we did get seated we were told "you have 1 hour". I would visit again, but I would use open table next time.

We Came here for brunch because I read so many good reviews about this place. However the service is terrible and unorganized. Waited a while before someone took my drink order and I got a Bloody Mary which was just average. We waited a good 30 minutes for our food and while waiting 2 people next to us had also waited a long time for their food to end up sending it back because they got their orders wrong. The kitchen is in the open so we could see there was only one chef for the whole place probably why it takes so long to get food. Besides the slow and Inattentive service, the food really is very good. I had the shrimp and chorizo quesadilla. Which was perfectly cooked and very tasty. My boyfriend had the lobster biscuit which was also very delicious. Props to the chef. Wish the joint was a little more organized.

OH MY. Thanks to the reviews on Yelp, we ended up at Lulu's for brunch after an overnight stay in Richmond. We wanted to go to Millie's, but the idea of waiting for 45+ minutes with a hangover was daunting & highly unappealing. We did have a short wait, but it was manageable & understandable (the Richmond Bacon Festival was happening at the Farmer's Market right outside the front door). While there were a number of really tempting items on the menu, we both elected the special omelet with crab, lobster, herbed goat cheese and bacon. There was supposed to be brocollini in it, but unless it was invisible, I didn't observe any of that. It was, however, totally not a deal-breaker. Completely amazing - fresh, cheesy, fluffy, heaven. Because of the pics I looked at on Yelp, I knew I also needed to have a side of biscuits and gravy. I'm pretty sure they put ground up unicorn horn in the roux, because it was pretty much the most mystical Bs&G that I've ever had. EVER. The waitress said they make their own sausage and that's the key, but I still think it was the unicorn horn dust. If I could find a place in St. Louis that made biscuits & gravy like this, I'd weigh 500lbs within a year, so I guess it's a blessing. Not that it mattered much in my rating, but these things were also noted: full bar, great people watching out the front windows (bacon festival - who knew they made bacon funnel cakes?!), clean, great service. At any rate, this was the best brunch of all time. GO HERE.

Imagine a larger Millie's without the long wait. This is a great brunch spot, and the Atlantic Omelette might be the best brunch food I've ever tasted. Seriously. I wish I could write more about the food, but I get the same thing every time. They have glasses but not pitchers of Bloody Mary, Bloody Maria, Mimosa, Poinsettia, and more. Go here.

I went here today with my soulmate for a much needed hangover remedy. Looks like I made the right decision. I'm very picky about my Bloody Marys, but Lulu's homemade mix was delicious. It wasn't too horseradish-y and if there was clam juice in it, I could barely taste it. It had the perfect amount of spice. For my meal, I had the fried chicken breast and red velvet waffle. It was to die for. The combination of savory and sweet really hit the spot, the only improvement that I might suggest would be to incorporate cream cheese frosting into the waffle somehow The gravy was great, but I would not have minded a bit more sauciness. PROS brought water when seated bloody mary good portion sizes CONS upon leaving my seat and wandering around aimlessly obviously in search of restroom, i was not offered directions. no heat in the bathroom no paper towels in bathroom no water pressure in sink when I first walked in the music was so loud that I literally had to scream over it, but they turned it down. I'm all for not turning down, but at 2pm... was not asked if I wanted dessert...was only asked how i wanted the check divided ------- HUGE pet peeve of mine...luckily the food was so heavenly it made up for it

Woke up this morning ready for an Brunch at Millie's. After driving by and seeing 30 people standing outside it certainly proved that Millie's brunch was fantastic but I was on the verge of Hangry and could not wait. Quickly searched for another spot in Shockoe Bottom and found LuLu's (while writing this realized it was owned by Millie's) Atmosphere is chill with an industrial modern feel. After a small wait we decided to sit at the bar and eat. The bartender was fast and friendly. I ordered the Lobster Biscuit and it was amazing. Huge chunks of lobster, mushrooms and tomatoes mixed in with what looked like 4 eggs over the most delicious biscuits I have ever had. Needless to say I am no longer Hangry and quite full. This place is a must!

We went on a Saturday and sat at the bar. The bartender was super friendly, we really liked her. Since we were visiting the south, I had shrimp and grits with asparagus/hollandaise and my husband had the biscuits and gravy. Both were outstanding. My shrimp were perfectly cooked and the sauce was smoky delicious, I ate very bite. The biscuits and gravy were fantastic, with biscuits so light and fluffy it was like eating air. I am seriously in LOVE with this place.

Just had the chance to visit for brunch this weekend - it will definitely be in the regular rotation!!!! While the food was not quite as memorable as Millie's, I LOVE the fact they take reservations. So much nicer than waiting in a cramped space!!!! They may get more business based solely on the fact that they offer better customer service.

Overall.. very delicious and as long as you come in with no time frame or mind yelling at the people beside you, I would recommend it! Lulu's has fantastic food!! We all loved everything that we ordered and were not disappointed. I am always skeptical of paying a lot for brunch, but it was well worth it. I ordered the chorizo frittata and it was so delicious! It's not very spicy which I liked. It was full of flavor and a huge portion, so much so I couldn't eat it all. Other dishes ordered at the table were the red velvet chicken and waffles, biscuit and gravy, and juevos rancheros. Everything was amazing!! 2 people had celiac's disease and they were very accommodating; over half the menu was GF. Service- so slow. We were there for almost 3 hours with 12 people. Smaller groups got more attention than our large group, which was weird considering you get more money from a larger group. However, she was very nice and helpful with whatever we needed. I'm a server and it drove me crazy seeing how long it took between getting drinks and getting our order in, and how none of the other servers would really help out others. Music- SO LOUD!! And it was not the most enjoyable music, geared towards a younger group. Well... I am young and I couldn't handle it. So for a certain type of crowd I should say. We were yelling across the table and were so thankful when a "quieter" song came on.

Had the chorizo frittata which was ok felt like it didn't have much flavor . The chorizo wasn't spicy enough but the house potatoes were really good . A friend ordered the red velvet waffles which they seemed pleased with. The service was just like the food which was ehhh. I will give a thumbs up to the hostess who was really nice and very accommodating when we called ahead for a table .

Try the red velvet waffle and Mimosa. Yummy. Customer service is great. I was seated and served quickly. I've been here twice and the first visit I had the Red Velvet Waffle with pecan cream cheese, and the combination of the cream cheese, strawberry syrup and dab whip cream tasted like a party in mouth. The different textures of those ingredients set the entire experience OFF... LOVED IT!!! My 2nd visit I ordered the Crab omelet (crab meat, asparagus, and goat cheese), the sweetness of the crab and savory flavor of the goat cheese made this one of the best omelets I've had in a while. They pair this dish with the potatoes. They have a bit of a hot spicy kick to them that I really appreciated. It challenged my palate, and I really want that recipe (LOL-GIGGLES). I ended up ordering the in house coffee, and that was brewed to perfection, it didn't taste burnt like some coffees I've had during some other brunches. Lulu's on 17th is ALL RIGHT WITH ME, and I'm a FOODIE and Photo Blogger of food on instagram. Yummy Nom!!!

Amaaazing. I eat chicken and waffles at almost every restaurant we visit... best chicken and (red velvet!) waffles with sausage gravy I have ever had. These were amazing. I was in town for work and a coworker and I went to Lulu's brunch, which is their most popular meal. Get there early if you're weekend brunching! The food was fabulous and I loved the atmosphere - it was very modern, hip, and classy. I had Huevos Rancheros (amazing!) and coffee. I'm picky about coffee and they have great coffee too - smooth, not bitter or acidic, and not to strong (I think Starbucks is too strong for reference). They had an impressive list of brunch alcoholic beverages as well, even though I didn't indulge on this occasion. The service was great and the staff were friendly. Our waitress told us that the owner actually also owns Millie's, which is a nother very popular Richmond brunch spot that I will certainly be checking out soon!

Stopped in for brunch on a mini weekend getaway. We ordered the chorizo frittata (which was deliciously spicy, AND our server brought over sriracha, which just made me love this place even more) & red velvet waffles. Both were absolutely delicious. I would recommend this place to anyone. Chorizo frittata is quite spicy, so if you can't take the heat, order something else. I wish this place was in my city... I could really go for some of this delicious breakfast/brunch right now.

When the owner of the restaurant comes over to your table and asks how you are enjoying your experience, after the service and food have already been top notch, it makes you feel warm and fuzzy and want to return and to tell others. Great job. On my short list for favorite restaurants in Richmond.

Best brunch I've had in Richmond! I had the Red Velvet waffle, which was to die for. My friends had more savory dishes and raved about them as well. To top it off, our server was super helpful and described menu items like she'd spent her life hosting a show on the Food Network. I'll definitely be going back many times!

I had heard of Millie's sister restaurant and figured it would have the same eclectic fare so I checked out Lulu's, and I have been back 4 times (3 for brunch, once for dinner). The menu is similar to that of Millie's with regard to brunch fare. I have had a chili omelette that I still think of fondly (it was a special that they had only once); it was a nice beefy, spicy chili tucked messily, yet deliciously into a perfectly cooked egg. The eggs rancheros also top my list of their breakfast fare; perfectly cooked eggs over black beans, 2 corn tortillas, and with a side of thinly sliced potatoes and green peppers. For dinner I tried meatloaf, which is delicious. The jambalaya my father had also had him sold, which is hard given that he makes his own and thinks it beats anyones.. All in all, I feel as though Lulu's isn't as well known as Millies, so bypass the line at Millie's and come over to Lulu's. You won't be disappointed.

I'm really sad that Lulu's is no longer open for lunch. I used to come down here from MCV fairly often for Friday lunch dates with a friend. Their sandwiches were magnificent, especially the black bean burger and the turkey with beet relish, and the homemade desserts were spot-on.

3.75 stars. Lulu's is a hip, relaxed spot in Shockoe Bottom that serves up gourmet comfort food, creative cocktails, and a touch of kitschy nostalgia. My dining companions took issue with the themes of the local art hung on the exposed brick walls, but the depictions of industrial labor and old Communist ideals seem to fit perfectly with a restaurant set close to a train station in Richmond's old warehouse district. The smooth slate bar and circulating ceiling fans (no, really) further this notion, but are also indicative of the owners' whimsically unique style. However, I am here to review the food. I'll let the art students at VCU decide the content and meaning of the Lulu's aesthetic. The menu initially concerned me, as it borrows dishes from many regions, but I decided to trust the cooks, who are affiliated with Millie's. The "high falootin" macaroni and cheese, featuring penne pasta, fontina and parmesan cheeses, and perfectly grilled shrimp, was an indulgent standout: strongly flavored, creamy, and loaded with shrimp. However, the true scene stealer was the seared tuna with sesame seeds, which was served on a chilled Asian rice noodle salad lightly dressed with a wasabi ginger sauce. The description of the dish needs a bit of work, but the cooks in the open kitchen know how to balance flavors. It was delicious! The jambalaya tasted fine, but the rice was a bit mushy and the dish should be skipped. Please note, the deep dish peanut butter pie should not be missed. Lulu's is a total urban gem in Richmond.

Valentines day. Price fixe at $40 per plate and 3 courses. Service was rude from the start. The starter was delicious but my entree was terrible. Crab spaghetti that tasted like anchovies. I went to dig out the crab because the noodles tasted like fish oil. Found about 1 bite worth of crab in the whole dish. Strawberry cake - stale. Ambiance -litterally had Elliot Smith on at one point (for valentines day?). When asked, I told server my food was "Ehh Ok" and I don't even think she heard me. Damage -$105 for two before tip . Never going back. My gf says I'm being nice with this one.

I love the way Lulu's looks on the inside. It seems like it should be located in some sweet metropolitan city. The decorations are interesting and the entire environment is conducive to a good time. The menu isn't boring and a few things I had, like the fried green tomatoes, were really awesome. The soup was excellent and the drinks were nice and stiff. On a bad note the jambalaya was awful, terrible. The pizza was good, and our waiter was super cool so we decided to say hey, only one dish sucked out of a few so yes we like Lulu's. For sure I'll be going back.

This place is alot of fun. the interior is fantastic. When we arrived it was crowded and had a wait so they took our names and offered to call us on my cell phone. We ended up walking across the street to havana and downing mojitos. 10mins later we got the call. the service is extremely friendly, fast and the place has energy. We ordered the tomato mozzerella appettizer, came out with 4-5 thick slices of their bread with a chunk of cornbread. it was awesome. the tomato extremely fresh and went perfectly with our drinks. My date ordered the SF cioppino, and I had the NY strip special. My steak was awesome and I decoured it, she loved the huge amount of seafood in the cioppino, I tried the broth and it was an incredible, I wish I ordered it. overall, a great place in richmond

This place rules! It is getting a lot more popular, but not quite up to Millie's insanity for brunch. There menu staples are fantastic especially the Bombay Burrito, god its so good! I'm not a huge fan for dinner, but brunch and lunch cannot be beat! Portions are enormous and prices are fair!!

went here saturday night around 9 with my boyfriend, dad, & stepmom. my grandmother used to own this place in the 50's and i thought it would be cool to take my dad to see it nowadays. it is very modern and industrial on the inside with low lighting. it's really loud in there, but after people started leaving, it got much better. my stepmom mentioned to the waitress that my grandmother used to own it and the owner came over and chatted with us and was super cool. they also sent over a champagne toast after they found out we just got engaged! onto the food, we started with the hummus platter, which was great. i ordered the double cut pork chop with grilled macaroni and cheese and OMG, it was the best pork chop i've ever had. my fiance ordered the chicken and dumplins with green beans and mashed potatoes and he said they were the best he's ever eaten....better than grandma's! my parents ordered steak with watercress and fries and said it was delicious. we enjoyed our night so much, our waitress was supersweet and helpful, too. we ended up staying til midnight! it is definitely an expensive place and i was hesitant to go after reading the reviews, but i will definitely be back.....next sunday for the valentine's buffet actually!

The decor is great. The food was so-so, and they were not very accommodating. The hours are also funky.

Lulu's serves a fantastic brunch at really reasonable prices, and there is more food on the plate than I could even hope to eat in one sitting. I tried the frittata, and my friend had an omelet, and both were really delicious. Fresh ingredients, interesting specials, and good service. It's proximity to other Shockoe spots is an additional plus.

Loved this place. Great menu; delicious food. Made an online reservation for Sunday brunch; glad we did because the place got busy very quickly. We had omelets (one with crab, one with avocado, onion and tomato) and French toast. The omelets came with a side of delicious roasted potatoes/peppers (just a bit too salty). The French toast had a creme anglaise sauce topped with fresh strawberries. Everything was fresh and really good quality. Only negative: no espresso only drip coffee but the coffee was good. The restaurant is simply decorated; brick walls, wood tables, open kitchen. We had brunch around 11am on a Sunday; the place was full and noisy, so don't expect a quiet, intimate meal at that time. Prices were reasonable. Highly recommend.

Awesome food, plenty of space (we had a big party) and NO upcharge for egg whites in my omelet! Loved it:)

I went to Lulu's today with a group of friends/classmates for Sunday brunch. We actually had a get-together the day before (to weather the hurricane) which lasted until 2AM, so it was a little hard getting up this morning, but it was totally worth it! Lulu's is an amazing restaurant! It looks like you should expect a wait if you walk-in, but fortunately, we had a reservation for our large group of 10. I ordered one of their fish specials, which was very tasty (although the sauce was a bit tart, and this is coming from someone who loves adding a ton of lemon juice to his fish). Everyone else's dishes looked super scrumptious too, so I definitely want to come back and try other things. I'm especially looking forward to the Red Velvet Waffle! Decor and ambience were lively and exciting, the waiter was very helpful (he was willing to split our check ten ways!), a fellow restaurant patron helped take our group photo for us, and the food quality/taste was absolutely top-notch. My only reservation is that the food is a little pricey, so I probably can't come here too often!

I LOVE this place! Especially for Brunch. The food is consistently fantastic: the Shrimp and Stone -Milled Pimento Grits and the Red Velvet Waffles are particular favorites! The food is flavorful, seafood is constantly fresh and well prepared, and they always have great beer on tap. Atmosphere is industrial and quirky, and the service is always friendly.

We were seated late, which isn't completely their fault because they can't force tables to leave. But even after we were seated it took 10 minutes to get a drink, the waitress never put in our order so it took an hour to actually get our food, and each of us were just OK with the dishes.Everything was over cooked, and in general the place is over-hyped. I've gone periodically over the years, and between bad customer service and food, I think they've lost their luster.

Delicious Bloody Mary to start followed by Lu lu's Benedict which was to die for. Friendly waitstaff and no wait for a table. Relaxed atmosphere and wonderful brunch menu choices.

Went for brunch today and was looking forward to it based on reviews read. We experienced lackluster, severely slow service which bordered on rude, mediocre food at best and bland cocktails. We ordered our drinks, later ordered our food and our drinks showed up (after a very long wait) at the same time our food arrived! One of our cocktails was wrong and by the time it was redelivered to our table, our meal was half eaten. I ordered the chicken and red velvet waffle. Based on all the hype I've read about this, I was entirely disappointed. It was boring, very dry and lacked any flavor and all 4 of our meals, even though different, had the same gravy poured over them. If this is one of the best brunches in Richmond, next time we'll stay home. Needless to say, we won't ever return.

I have been twice and with multiple people, so I have sampled quite a few items off the brunch menu. I will have to say their Sausage gravy and biscuits are quite divine. The sausage is a little spicy which gives it a kick (BTW I am a sausage gravy snob..born and raised). Some quirks I have... -Each time I have been the Diet Coke is flat? -Huevos Rancheros, which I think would be extremely hard to mess up, were messed up! They are drenched in the tomato and bean which made it soggy beyond belief, I didn't even eat it -Lobster Biscuit...this came from my friend, they use all claw meat so it is not as good as it could be I suppose -Out waitress was a little frazzled...which kind of made it more entertaining now that I think about it I would totally go again and just get the things I have enjoyed, and instead of getting the Coke, I may spring for a Bloody Mary (had a sip...mmm hmm) or coffee instead.

I will say the food is INCREDIBLE! The service? Not so hot! The Bartender was too busy flirting with the male customers to even notice there were other people at the bar- the hostess? Lacks personality- we couldn't get seated because we were a party of two - I get it maximize usage of space but there are ways of making the customer feel welcomed !!! The hesitation with an attitude? No Bueno! A place with so much potential just lacks personality- it could be the cement decor... Who knows...

We have tried lulus twice and have been very impressed both times. The smoked salmon was amazing. The Atlantic seafood omelette made the group I was with run wild. A flavor explosion bite after the bite. The service and atmosphere was equally as enjoyable.

We went to Lulu's for brunch on Sunday. Its in the city so street parking was hard to find. There is also a paid parking close by. The vegetarian options are very limited in the menu. The red velvet waffle was not good and French toast was average. You can find better waffle and French toast in iHop. Our server, Greg was awesome. We were very pleased with how he took care of our orders. Great service overall but average food.

I was so excited to finally try Lulu's because I LOVE weekend brunch and heard great things/ read great reviews. Sadly, my experience was completely disappointing from the service to the food. Service: Our waiter was rude to my friend when she asked for a chai late... it is a breakfast place. If you don't have it, just say you don't have it instead of making someone feel dumb for asking. Another friend ordered coffee and naturally the waiter brought out some milk/creamer with it. He asked the waiter if it was cream and she said yes... then he said oh could I actually get milk, and the waiter laughs a little and says oh it's actually milk (say what?) pretty sure it was cream after all, what's the deal with that? Overall it was difficult to get service, didn't get enough utensils and took a while to get the rest, waiter wasn't helpful and made us feel like a burden to her. Lastly, my husband wanted to order one of the specials that was on the table... sure enough to find that those specials were old and our waiter never bothered telling us the specials until we were giving her our orders. Food: despite the service, I was hopeful about the food, and would definitely recommend it and come back if the food was really good. Disappointing, I make much better brunchs myself. I got the shrimp and grits- it was more like a soup which was weird to me. I am originally from Atlanta, and have never seen shrimp and grits like that. I love pouched eggs, but it was really weird eating them in a soupy mixture. And the shrimps were really lacking. For being the most expensive thing on the menu I was expecting more than a few tiny pieces of shrimp. My husband got the florentine. It was ok but the bottom half of the muffin was completely soggy and if it had been sitting out for a while before bringing it out. Overall, none of us were happy with our food and found it completely overpriced for bad service and disappointing taste.

I like LuLu's, but just ok - I could take it or leave it. The last time I was here, I just about froze up like an ice cube. It was just too darn cold to enjoy any food. It has been this cold almost every time I've come here. I don't appreciate that - I think I'm more sensitive to the temp in a room, but if you're the same - BRING A JACKET!!! Maybe even thermal undies. I'm just sayin'. The food is pretty good, I didn't think it was worth two things: the wait and the service. Both were too long for anything good to come of it.

AMAZING. I do not want to go anywhere else in Richmond for brunch, honestly. The food is fresh and incredibly well prepared. My boyfriend and I showed up one Sunday last month, sat down at the bar and were unprepared for just how good the food would be. We each order one of the specials of the day, each dish featured lobster. I can say that their hollandaise is delicious, the lobster was carefully cooked, and the eggs were fantastic. And the drinks? We each had a bloody mary - perfect balance of flavors, just the right amount of spice; and a pomegranate mimosa - a drink the bartender had only just "invented" a few minutes before we ordered it - very very good! The atmosphere is casual but very classy, the staff is attentive, friendly and fun all the time. Definitely a top restaurant for Richmond.

My favorite brunch spot in Richmond!! I get the LuLu's Eggs Benedict which were great and my wife gets the Sausage Gravy and Biscuits which are also very good!!! I have had some of their specials which are always good!! Shrimp and Chorizo quesadillas were awesome and I'm picky about shrimp that is not fresh!

We went to check out Lulu's because Millie's was PACKED! I definitely don't regret the choice. Lulu's had a much more comfortable atmosphere and the food was delicious! They have a very diverse brunch offering and a group of six of us did our best to clear our plates before nearly falling into a food coma. The leftovers were just as good though, so it's ok if you don't finish. I have never eaten the food at Millie's, but I can't imagine it being too much better than Lulu's. Combined with the amazing food was a great atmosphere that was much much calmer than Millie's. (Millie's was crazy busy and we could barely hear ourselves think, much less have conversations). I will definitely be coming back to this place!

Went there for Sunday morning brunch. There wasn't much of a wait which was nice but the rest of the experience wasn't very noteworthy. The service was extremely unprepared and the food was mediocre at best, and cold. The $7 mimosa may have had a splash of champagne in them but that's debatable. You can do better somewhere else in the city for much less money.

Consistently good experiences here. I have had brunch twice and dinner once. Apparently they are only serving lunch right now. Good service at the bar. Great spot near the farmer's market. High end diner feel, but food is excellent. Just finished pork pupusas with poached eggs- delicious. Great spot near the Omni and Berkeley hotels. Update 11/1/13: New manager is changing the beer selection to go with all local beers on tap. Good move!

While traveling we were in need of a delicious brunch spot, complete with mimosas. We made reservations but didn't need them, we were greeted and seated immediately. There were several things on the menu that caught my eye Of course I had to try the red velvet waffle, the cream chees accompaniment is delicious. My better half had the Chorizo omelet, it was loaded with chorizo and flavor. The only thing we didn't like were the mimosa's; I'm not sure what type of OJ they use but it needs to be fresh squeezed to really make a mimosa 'pop' the mimosas were bitter, we mixed in cranberry juice and that made it palatable. After that we switched to wine. Highly recommend will dine again when i'm in the area.

This review is for the BRUNCH only ATMOSPHERE: Fun place to bring your friends, family, or significant other. Trendy setting and classy. Had no idea such a gem was located in Downtown Richmond. SERVICE: Service was pleasant albeit very slow in the beginning. I don't know why it took forever for a server to come to our table initially but once she came to us she was very attentive, pleasant, and we had no problems. DRINKS: They make a stiff mimosa here. It was so good and I love that it was strong. It was a decent price too. FOOD: I ordered the Huevos Rancheros. This was the first time I ordered this so I have nothing to compare it to but it was sooooo good. OMG. It had me drooling. It was incredibly tasty and very well made. I practically licked my plate clean. The roasted potatoes that come out with it was really good too- perfectly cooked and seasoned. I have no criticisms here. Definitely coming back here for brunch next time I'm in Richmond.

Back to Lulu's today, I had the croissant sandwich with bacon and avocado. It was a breadth of fresh air to get FRESH avocado in Virginia. The sandwich was awesome and the service was great. This is a hidden gem with reasonable prices. From the outside it always looks dead, but it was packed.

Brazenly unapologetic about getting my oder wrong... I'm a vegan, and take total responsibility for my diet when I eat out. I'm no stranger to ordering the side of green beans and calling that a meal. I ordered a greek salad, listed as having a red wine vinaigrette, without the feta. "I'm vegan," I say. "Is that doable?" No problem, the waitress told me. It comes out and its covered in a cream-based dressing. That's when I was told they don't have any vegan options and aren't willing to try. Totally unwilling. Do you have oil & vinegar? Can I have that on some greens? No. Won't be back.

Boo... didn't get to have the Red Velvet Waffle since we came in on a Friday afternoon. BUT! The burger and tacos were really good! For the burger, you could taste the freshness of the meat, like they just slaughtered the sucker, ground it up and cooked it... I really enjoyed it! The pork tacos were tasty, had a soy saucy earthy-ness to it.... But, the mother of them all was the Edward Slab Bacon mac and cheese. If you like mac and cheese as a side to your bacon, get this.

Had a party of 10. My order was forgotten. The waiter forgot one of our drinks for almost the entire meal and totally forgot to serve 2 and made us pay. The food was bland and greasy. Eggs Benedict came out with a fully cooked yolk. This score would normally be for the service, however, the food wasn't even that great. I could make my own brunch better in the time that I was waiting.

Was here for a holiday party earlier in the week, and I think the restaurant made some errors in terms of planning and execution during the event... however, since most folks likely won't be having a corporate party at LuLus, I'll focus on what I ate vs. the service experience... Butternut squash soup- not bad, nothing remarkable. This is a pretty standard offering esp. in the fall and winter, and it was executed well but it was nothing I'd feel compelled to order again. The only thing that made it at all memorable was that I think they fried pumpkin seeds and put them on top, or something along those lines- there were some crunchy salty things in there... Sea bass- mine was undercooked. Was supposed to be pan-fried but only one side was seared. It was simply seasoned and would have been fine had it not been mostly raw. Creamed spinach- not as thick and creamy as I would have liked- it was definitely a very light cream. Also could have used some salt, and a little more seasoning overall (some nutmeg maybe)? Wouldnt get it again... Mac and cheese- really good. I could have eaten this all night. It was rich and flavorful and hearty, and there were some crunchy cheesy bits as well. Brussel sprouts- These were served candied, and they were great. They were a bit more finely chopped than I would have anticipated but they had a great ratio of nuts to sprouts, and they were a tasty accompaniment to the other sides. Mashed potatoes- Also really good- creamy and thick and well-seasoned. Flan- Better than expected. I love flan but sometimes I find restaurants make it tasteless- this was nice and sweet and creamy, with an apparently homemade caramel sauce over the top that made me want to lick the plate :) Overall, the problem I had with the food is that there was nothing so stand-out that I'd go back, and there was no consistency in the items to make me want to take the risk of finding out of they really could serve a good complete meal. It's too bad because half of what I had really was good if not unique, which tells me they have promise... just perhaps some issues in their kitchen.

We tried: Lobster Benedict, Shrimp and Chorizo Quesadilla, Carnitas Pork, French Toast, Grilled Corn Beef and Lulu's Benedict If it has the word benedict in it, get it! Their hollandaise sauce is out of this world. The lobster benedict was the real winner-it comes with SO much lobster you wouldn't believe it. It's definitely what takes us back to Lulu's. This dish is really, really rich so split a meal and alternate if you can! I love the shrimp and chorizo quesadilla-husband just thinks it's "pretty good." If you love chorizo, then go for it! Really good flavor and really big portion. Carnitas Pork- not so much. It is as DRY as meat comes. Two thumbs down. French Toast- also, not so much. I would describe it as flimsy pieces of not good bread, with a "nothing special" strawberry sauce on top. You will probably be as disappointed as we were if you order this. If you like grilled corn beef, you will probably like Lulu's. The waitress told us it was her favorite thing on the menu! They do it well. for more of my review visit: eatingbycity.blogspot.com

We heard good things about this restaurant and decided to give it a try for Sunday Brunch. There was a ten to fifteen minute wait but that was expected. While waiting outside, the hostess let us know that four seats opened up at the bar, so we decided to sit at the bar. The bartender was very friendly and was very attentive. We decided to start off with a few poinsettias and water until our meal was delivered. I admired the industrial decor of the restaurant as I waited for my food. I couldn't also get over how clean this restaurant was. Also, if you sit at the bar, you get a nice view of the kitchen. Usually, I don't like to see the kitchen, but it was interesting watching the cook work. He was very skilled and quick. I felt like I was watching an episode of Chopped on the Food Network. The food came out very quickly. I ordered the Crab Enchilada. That was my first time trying anything of that nature, I was hungry and in the mood for taking a risk. That's one of the best risks that I've ever taken. The egg inside of the enchilada was seasoned so well. The crab and the egg worked so well together. The side of home fries were good also. I can't wait to visit this restaurant again.

Lulu's is ok. The ambiance is really cool but the food is just okay. My fiance and I went for brunch since we wanted to change it up from Millies. I ordered the shrimp and stone milled pimento grits and it was meh. Totally not worth $15. He had the french toast and really liked it. I also had a Michelada.. also eh. I'll give this place another shot for lunch or dinner.

Just had a great first visit to Lulu's and I'm sure I'll be back. We started off with the tasty chicken nachos...these are not your ordinary nachos though so don't visualize chicken with melted velveeta over tortilla chips. Dinner was Lulu's Jambalaya for me and the salmon with coconut broth rice noodles. Both were delicious, and I realized I need to stop comparing my home-version Zataran's to any proper restaurant's version. Mine sucks, Lulu's rocks! I stole a bite of the salmon dish and loved the flavors too! Just an essence of coconut that let the other flavors shine through. Glancing over at our neighbor's table makes me wish I'd saved room for dessert. Oh well... Next Time! Great atmosphere for a casual dinner with friends. Super friendly staff offering great table service too. Another winner restaurant for Richmond!

Came for brunch on a busy Sunday. Hostess was great and let us know when seats opened up at the bar to help us get seated faster. The bartender was terrific, he had a large crowd to cover but was gracious and never seemed hurried or stretched too thin. My husband loved his Atlantic Omelet and raved about it. I had the Papusas and just wish there had been more pork in them as the papusa was the overwhelming flavor. Liked the spicey slaw and the potatoes. Nice brunch spot!

I cannot understand how you're only open for two days, yet never have a full staff! How hard is it to hire servers (especially in this college area) to wait tables from 10-3 on Saturdays and 9-3 on Sundays? I mean, seriously? Our party of 3 arrived around 1 last Saturday hoping that by that point the crowd would've died down...wrong! We waited for over an hour even though we were told there would be a 20 minute wait. I wasn't as concerned about the wait as I was about the competence of the hostess. I asked about the empty tables and she informed me that they were short-staffed and wouldn't be seating anyone in that area. Okay, I can understand that so we continued to wait. Lord bless her, but she was definitely not cut out to be a hostess! A hostess has to know what they're doing as to not turn people away. They're the first person you come into contact with. Anyway, after waiting and waiting, another party of 3 walked in and she immediately seated them...?!? I promise you there was steam coming from the top of my head! I confronted her and asked if they already had a reservation or something because surely they hadn't waited longer than the 3 of us? She replied and said, "well I called the phone number that I took down for your party but no one answered." First, that's a bold face lie as we never moved from the teeny little corner by the bar and I NEVER saw her as much as pick up a phone. That must be the little white lie that they tell patrons! Not only did she not call my cell phone, she also never walked around to see if we were the party of 3 that was next in line! Anyway, she finally seats us in the area that she told us they weren't seating people in, remember? Then she says, "your server will be here in a few minutes but please be patient as again, we're short staffed today." I wanted to reply to her statement with something really sarcastic, but I didn't want to eat spit for breakfast so I decided to keep quiet and review the menu. Another 8-10 minutes or so passed and the waitress happened to catch me staring at her (yes, giving her the stink eye!) while she was greeting another table that was seated AFTER us and said, "I'll be with you all in a minute." Not sure how many minutes she meant, but after waiting for yet another 15 minutes or so, we decided to just leave and go to IHOP. Again, furious and hungry, I knew that I wouldn't ever visit this place again. I don't care anything about their specialty waffles, etc., as I can make them at home if I really want them bad enough! Just plain tom foolery!

We had a difficult time deciding what to chose when we took a look at the menu, EVERYTHING sounded appetizing. We went ahead and got a yelp favorite Red Velvet Waffle, words can not describe how flavorful and flat out tasty it truly was. Pork burrito was my entree of choice, I was delighted when I saw my burrito sitting in front of me, double or triple the size of any breakfast burrito I've ever had before. I was not disappointed in my decision, pulled pork, rice, eggs, cheese, topped with pico de gallo and sour cream. At this time they are not open for dinner, but I wish they will return to do so. The area is booming on the weekends and some week nights, based off my experience with breakfast, I'm sure dinner is to the 9's.

Great food, great service! The first time, we had the lobster biscuit and the lulu's Benedict. There were so few people, the manager was able to have a conversation with us. The second time, the eggs Florentine and a pork burrito. It was much busier, but not a bad wait. They didn't disappoint!

Lulu's is a great find, found in the Shockoe Bottom area. I've been for dinner and brunch and both were great experiences. For dinner, the entrees felt like a modern twist on the classic dishes. I remember getting a macaroni dish that had a nice flavor to it and was loaded with different cheeses and shrimp. For brunch, the dishes seemed more tex mex and all the dishes I tried were delicious. I tried the crab enchilada, chilaquiles, and lobster omelette. The enchilada was my favorite and I will definitely order it again. I dropped a star for the fact that the dishes are a bit more expensive than I would like. Overall, great place for a datenight or sunday brunch.

Again on a recommendation by my cousin, my boyfriend and I visited this brunch place right after a race we ran. The staff was friendly and we didn't feel overly awkward coming in our race gear. Both our selections were delicious. Since I love red velvet anything I decided to go with the red velvet waffle with pecan cream cheese and he went with a stuffed omelet with crab, corn, and cheese. Both were good, but I loved the strawberries and cream with the cream cheese and red velvet waffle hit the spot. I was a bit worried when she mentioned that there is usually a line. We got in no problem and we were in and out right away. Yum, yum, I wouldn't mind going back.

This is a solid place. Friendly service, good food. There are quite a few more options on the lunch menu (vs the dinner menu), so if you like variety, go for lunch. The black bean vegetarian burger was pretty good. My only complaint was that didn't hold together and practically fell apart after the first bite. I also tried the meatloaf sandwich, which was also good.

Lulu's offers nicely prepared comfort food without any pretense. The restaurant, located near Shockoe Bottom, is easy to pass by, as it is housed in (what appears to be) an old store. Like the exterior, the interior is quite rustic and unadorned, with just a few offbeat, artsy touches. The dinner menu was small, featuring just a few salads, entrees, and desserts. Most of the dishes are inspired by classic southern comfort foods: fried chicken, roasted pork loan, meatloaf, etc. I had a wonderful starter salad of mixed greens and tomatoes, tossed in a citrus vinaigrette ($5); not something I will remember for years, but refreshing and crisp. For my entree, I had the best version of chicken and dumplings I've ever tasted ($18.95): simple pulled chicken and thick strips of pastry in the most flavorful, addictive, thick chicken gravy you can imagine! I've thought about that dish time and again over the past few days, and just remembering it now brings me to salivation. Yes, it was THAT good! Unfortunately, my dining partner, who hates rare meat (!), was served a bloody steak that took away her appetite that evening, despite having ordered it medium-well (tragic, I know, but one should get what they order). Despite the steak massacre, I highly recommend Lulu's for a good, comforting meal.

Since Lulu's is the creation of the same restaurant genius that's behind Millie's, I was all ready for a happenin' place with unique food and drink offerings. On a recent Saturday brunch visit, however, we found instead a pleasant but pretty average place, not at all like Millie's but still a decent place for a meal. The restaurant is on 17th Street, across from the Farmer's Market and Main Street Station, and just a few blocks walk from the Poe Museum --- a good location if you're out being a tourist in Shockoe Bottom. It's one of several small restaurants in that block, and their brunch menu seemed to offer a good mix of the usual brunch favorites and some more unique (we thought) combinations of eggs and other ingredients, a la Millie's "messes" (again, we thought). I ordered a chorizo special, and my wife had what sounded like a variation on huevos rancheros. Mine turned out to be a whole grilled chorizo sausage, two fried eggs and fried potatoes, all pretty greasy and just basic diner food. My wife was served two fried eggs on tortilla chips, black beans, red sauce, cheese and fried potatoes, also pretty basic stuff. When you're primed and ready for a "mess," this was pretty disappointing. We may have just hit it at the wrong time (Sat, around noon), but the restaurant also lacked any feeling of excitement or "spunk" that we so enjoy at Millie's. The place was about 3/4 full when we were there, but it seemed pretty sterile and sort of felt like a cafeteria --- order you food, eat your food, leave. The hostesses and waitstaff are all young and try to be energetic, but never seemed to quite pull it off. They're efficient and pleasant, but seem more like high school girls than the characters that serve at Millie's. I think our problem was one of expecting another Millie's, and being disappointed that Lulu's was just a pleasant, average restaurant with average food. So maybe that's more our problem than it is Lulu's...

Just went in for a few drinks with friends but the service was amazing! Trish has a great personality and always checked on us to make sure we were okay. Will definitely go back for a meal; breakfast looked amazing!

Added as one of my new favorites next to Millie's and Baker's Crust for breakfast in Richmond!! I went with a group of friends and we all had a taste of each other's dishes - there wasn't anything I didn't love other than their less-than-par mimosa. I ordered the crab and asparagus omelet which came with a side of potatoes. The omelet came out perfectly cooked with just the right ratio of each ingredient. My stomach was very happy! I am also a personal fan of "crunch", so the crispy and flavorful potatoes (with an extra drizzle of Sriracha on my behalf) hit the spot. Other dishes I had the pleasure of trying were the grilled corned beef (served under two poached eggs and hollandaise), the strawberry french toast, and a special for the day that I can't remember the name of, but it was "breakfast fajita"-like. There were steak, peppers, and onions all scrambled with eggs served with tortillas and a side of zucchini. Full of flavor and super satisfying! And the grilled corned beef is a must-try. I enjoyed the strawberry french toast, but I do have a disclaimer - I think it's one of those dishes that you can really only have a couple bites out of before feeling overloaded with sugar! All-in-all, I fully enjoyed dining here and will definitely be coming back! The friendly staff and hip atmosphere are a plus too :) Whether you're recovering from a hangover or revving up for a productive day, LuLu's will hit the spot!!

Delicious runny eggs benedict! Came here for brunch right at 10 am and was pleasantly surprised. The space is modern with industrial style painting adorning the wall, it gives the place a very forward feel. The eggs benedict, or lulu's benedict, as they restaurant calls it were perfect. The eggs whites were firm but the yolks were runny and creamy as they should be. The hollandaise was smooth and rich but not overpowering. Also had the red velvet waffles but in all honesty they tasted like regular waffles. I saw quite a few bloody mary's coming out and will try them on my next visit, this place has got me coming back for more. Had we come in 15 to 30 minutes later our experience could have been very different. We could have had to wait to be seated and had to wait for a pretty minute for our food. Come early, those extra 15 minutes make a big difference.

Four of us had dinner here on a Friday night and for the most part, our food was good. I had the pork loin - the meat and the greens underneath worked great together and were tasty, but the potatoes on the side were bland in my opinion. My friend got the steak, which was seasoned very well- 5 stars for its taste. The other two in our party had dishes that were just OK (risotto, salmon). Our server was very polite and accommodating. I would give this place 4 stars, but am not due to the following: 1) It took a very long time for our food to come out, and the restaurant was dead while we were there. 2) The dessert menu was disappointing: two pies (key lime, buttermilk), a raspberry bar and a blueberry buckle. None of these tickled my fancy so I didn't try any of them. If I lived nearby and could walk here, I'd probably go back and give it another try. However, if I'm going to drive downtown for dinner, I'll probably go somewhere that I think will offer a little more.

My new go-to spot for brunch! I wanted to wait until after my 3rd time eating here before reviewing so I could say that I've tasted at least 90% of the menu first. With that being said, everything was exceptional, except for 2 things that fell a little short of amazing (the mimosa was a little tart/bland, and the strawberry french toast wasn't really anything more than strawberries on top of regular french toast). The grilled corned beef is the perfect amount of savory/salty for the poached egg with hollandaise on top. If you want something more Millie's-esque, the chorizo frittata or the huevos rancheros are always a safe bet. The shrimp and pimento grits are a little runny, but still are delicious. I love the potatoes that come with most things, they're cripsy on the outside. Everything else has been at least pretty darn good. Don't forget to ask for the sriracha! I usually don't grade on service/ambiance unless there's something to be said about it. But LuLu's is roomier than Millie's with a more modern look, and the servers/bartender/hostesses are sweet and fun!

Had a good brunch here with cousin and a friend. The bloody mary's were very spicy. My cousin ordered the eggs benedict and she said they were spicy as well so she didn't enjoy hers as much as I did. I ordered the red velvet waffle which was delicous. Tasted like red velvet cake... Dessert for breakfast!!! YUMMMY. :)

I came here for brunch. A very trendy atmosphere, friendly and quick service can be found at this restaurant. I ordered the crab and asparagus omelette. The omelette was pretty good, but wasn't hearty enough to me. I felt as though it was lacking cheese or some other type of filling. The potatoes that came with it were cooked perfectly and were very delicious, but needed just a little bit of help from the salt and pepper shakers. Three other people I dined with ordered the bloody mary and said it was the best they've had. I don't like bloody mary's, but it wouldn't hurt to try it if you stumble upon this little restaurant. I had a good experience, but I think I ordered the wrong dish, so I'll be coming back here to try the Lulu's florentine or Chorizo ;P

A morning of tutoring and distance running had left me hungry, and I'd recalled seeing Lulu's on the Shockoe Bottom strip next to the farmer's market. Richmond's obsession with brunch had somewhat limited this mostly vegetarian's options. Lulu's seemed to offer at least a couple of options, so I decided to give it a shot. I started with the classic Bloody Mary cocktail. While passable for a Bloody Mary, it wan't particularly impressive. I've had much better... but then, in Vegas I had much, much worse. I'd call it a good, but not great, breakfast drink. 3/5. The actual food was much better. I chose the huevos rancheros, (as it was one of two immediately identifiable dishes without meat. While the eggs were a fair bit runnier than I like, the runny nature of the eggs went well with the dish. In fact, I found my normal aversion for squishy eggs squashed as a scarfed the entire combination down in record time. I could eat this daily. 4/5. The potatoes (or home fries, or breakfast potatoes, or whatever you like to call them) were deliciously seasoned, crispy, and were also scarfed despite my no-potato pact. 5/5 for the potatoes. Clearly, Lulu's is worth the stop if the rest of the food holds up to the same standards.

I made a reservation for my party of six on opentable.com . We arrived to Lulu's a few minutes early and were immediately shown to our table. The restaurant is very open and modern which I found inviting. Everyone in our group ordered something different, and everyone really enjoyed their meals. I started with the house salad which was very fresh and flavorful. For my entree, I had the roast chicken, which came on a long platter with mashed potatoes and roasted carrots. Everything was delicious. The desserts sounded wonderful, but everyone was too full to order any. If I'm in Richmond again, I would definitely want to eat at Lulu's again.

Been looking forward to trying LuLu's for a long time. Very excited when I rolled out of bed early enough to try brunch today. Space is very cool. Kind of a hip, industrial vibe. We were immediately seated, however there was barely 3 feet between the 6 top and the two seater my friend and I were seated at. Sorry, that just doesn't work. I'm not curtailing my conversation. This isn't Kabuto. I wasn't expecting to practically be sitting at someone else's table. Thankfully, the very pleasant staff was more willing to accommodate us and we relocated to another part of the restaurant. Good job there :) Waitress could not have been any more polite. Servers were a mix of both male and female, young and attractive and extremely well-mannered. I kept it simple and ordered the Croissant sandwich. I asked for my egg to be fried. What showed up was yellow and runny and certainly not fried. Not a deal breaker but for $10, it needs to be cooked to my specifications. The breakfast potatoes were terrific (hard to fuc* up) and the drink refills were steady. I'm looking forward to returning for dinner when the place is a little less hectic and chaotic.

I was initially very impressed with the fact that you could make a reservation and even more excited to go to LuLu's because of all the great reviews. I really tried to love this place--I've been living in South Korea for 7 months and brunch is unheard of there, so you can imagine how excited I was for a Bloody Mary and some good grub. Unfortunately, when my boyfriend and our 2 friends arrived, the place was packed. We thought we were safe because we'd made a reservation, only to be told that there were no tables available for us. When we were seated after 20 minutes, the waitress didn't show up for another 7 and was clearly overwhelmed. She took our drink orders but only came back with 2 waters and 0 Bloody Marys. She came back 3 times and seemed irritated at us that we didn't have our drinks yet. We finally were given our drinks and they were out of vegetables for the drinks. Even if they had the veggies, the drinks were mediocre at best. Our food was just decent--one order of fish tacos, a crab enchillada, crab omellette and a tomato avocado omellette. No great shakes. I'm not sure if I just got my hopes up for an epic brunch with some excellent company or what, but I was pretty unimpressed overall. With all the unique restaurants in Richmond, I don't really see myself coming back to LuLus.

Decided on Lulu's for Saturday brunch a few weeks ago with some friends that had flown in from Baton Rouge. I quickly scrolled through the reviews on Yelp and picked this place for its menu options and location. I am glad we did as every one of us had a positive experience. We started with Bloody Mary's that we're good enough, nothing special. The meals are what really stood out. The chosen favorite was the Lobster biscuit. This meal is not for the faint of heart as it is pretty rich. The flavors of all the components married well without drowning the biscuit. The shrimp and grits also stood out. Being from the Lowcountry I deemed it long ago my responsibility to try the shrimp and grits whenever I see it. The grits were creamy and the gravy spicy. The shrimp were cooked great. The Florentine was excellent with the muffin holding its own against the soaking it received from the hollandaise and eggs. Finally the huevos rancheros really hit the spot. Make sure you bring your appetite as this dish was on the heavy side.

I'm kind of in love with this place. The atmosphere, the proximity to my apartment, the style, the ambiance, all of it. I want to come back again and again. BF and I came for brunch at 10 on the dot. Perfect timing too, because about 10-15 minutes later, it got super packed. We were literally the first customers of the day, which was nice. I got the Lulu's Florentine, which is basically eggs benny without any ham. The English muffin they use is thickly cut and very yummy. Unfortunately, my eggs were not poached properly...they were a little undercooked and hence, watery. I also found the hollandaise sauce a little overwhelming, I ended up scraping about half of it off. The little potato discs included with the dish have a little kick of spice to them, which was a nice surprise. We also got the red velvet waffles. They looked gorgeous, but I didn't get much red velvety taste. Nevertheless, they were fluffy and absolutely nom nom-worthy. They come topped with this amazing pecan butter/cream cheese spread that I want to eat all day long, as well as FRESH strawberries (yay!) and some whipped cream. For those who need liquor in the morning, I watched them make Bloody Marys at the bar, and boy do they serve those in gigantic glasses. It's a good thing, I guess!

I've had the Red Velvet Waffle here as well as the Biscuits and Gravy and they were BOTH fantastic. I remember the brunch and drinks being a little on the pricier side but it's a great spot to chill on a Sunday morning (or afternoon) with mimosas, bloodys and a super filling breakfast. Service was great and the menu, although, smaller, was inventive!

This is good food. Glad we found it. We could not get in at Millies so they sent us down the road. I'm glad they did. The potatoes were very flavorful. The red velvet waffle was a hit and so was the sausage and gravy dish. I wasn't overwhelmed by the avocado omelette, but even that was good. Cool space with really nice staff (Tess was our server. The host was kind enough to bring water out for our dogs.) The food came out really fast, which was good b/c we were just passing through--but we will be back!

***BRUNCH REVIEW*** Seriously. One of the best brunches I've had in the past year. The food was delicous and the service was great! We couldn't help but take a bite from everyone else's dish. The chorizo fritatta? OMG so good. Topped with savory ground chorizo sausage and chunky guacamole. The guacamole tasted better than most of the Mexican restaurants I've been to. The side of potatoes was cook perfectly. The steak and eggs brunch special was fantastic! The tender, well-seasoned beef with poached eggs was a party for my palate! Lastly, the red velvet waffle is a gay gasp away from being the best waffle I've ever had! Topped with pecan cream cheese and strawberry campote...this would satisfy any sweet tooth! Oh, and $4 brunch cocktails?! Oh hey gurl hey! The service was fantastic. The server was knowledable of everything that was on the menu and gave great recommendations. Can't wait to go back to try the rest of the menu!

Me and my wife were out looking for a restaurant on a Tuesday night. The menu looked very good. We arrived around 9:20 p.m. When we entered, a gentleman approached us, smiled and said it would be $20 each. There was a band setting up, so I asked to make sure, "$20 just to sit down"? He said yes, and just stood there looking at us. I said no way, and left. We ended up eating at a Mexican restaurant around the corner for a lot less and the food was very good. In case anyone wonders, we were dressed appropriately. Too boot, we told someone else about our experience and this person told us they received food poisoning from this restaurant. I don't care how good the food is, $20 for a cover charge on a Tuesday night in downtown Richmond? What a joke. Avoid this place.

Yelp is the only thing that got me into this place. It's not much to look at from the outside. Once I got inside, it seemed a lot more inviting, even with it's white brick walls. They didn't have yeungling which made me sad, especially since I can't get it where I'm from but the legend brown ale seemed decent enough. They have some interesting gins here. Makes me wonder if they can make a good martini. On the recommendation of the server, i went with the Edwards slab bacon (a localish company's) mac n cheese and a cup of the chowder. I'm sitting at the bar and watching the kitchen staff work to make everything fresh to order and I'm wondering how they keep up when this place gets busy. The clam chowder has a velvet creamy quality to it that is better than some of the chowdahs I had in Boston. The mac n cheese is made smokey by the slab bacon with the noodles cooked perfectly. The bacon tastes nothing of bacon but a richer heartier more fragrant cousin perhaps. Both salty and smokey in each their own right with a dominate smokey salt taste. Absolutely AMAZING. I will say that the cheese sauce was more of a cream sauce then a cheese sauce. That's probably my one complaint. Thank you Yelp for showing me the way. Oh how I will be longing to return here.

I always go to Millie's so I was very excited to try their other restaurant LuLu's. I could not have been happier with my meals here. I came for brunch and had the biscuits and gravy and it was probably the best I have ever had. We all loved our food so much we came back the next day for lunch. I had the meatloaf sandwich and it was amazing!!! I cant wait to come back here and try more things on the menu. Its definitely one of my new favorite places in Richmond!

I absolutely love Lulu's brunch. Every item sounds amazing (I'm stuck on the chilaquiles) and the staff is always friendly and helpful. My only wish is that they had a children's menu, or at least a kid-sized portion option. My kids love the food, but they don't need the adult-sized portions. Otherwise, my review would be 5 starts for sure :)

I've eaten her a few times for lunch, brunch, and dinner. It's been a hit and miss with me and what I've come to realize is that if the dish they have on their menu doesn't sound American, don't order it. I.E. their salmon on noodles in an Asian coconut broth, or their Mexican tacos. It sounds good on paper but their execution isn't that great. So why do I keep coming back for more? I like their cornbread and their food seems very simple but at the same time very creative.

I walked here from my hotel, which was great. From the outside, this restaurant doesn't look like much, but the inside is super cute and vintage. I had made a reservation for brunch about a month prior to my visit; however, when I arrived with my Mom, they had no record of my reservation, which was disappointing. We were still able to be seated promptly, luckily. The food was delicious -- I had the tomato, avocado, onion omelette and my Mom had the French toast -- and the service was wonderful.

This place is owned by the same owners as Millie's, but without the obnoxious crowd if you can't get your bum out of bed before 9 to get there in time to beat said crowd. In fact, I enjoy their huevos rancheros more than Millie's. My boyfriend is really in love with their breakfast burrito and when he is given the choice to choose brunch, he will choose this place because of it. It's certainly worth a shot and I've never bee disappointed.

When one moves from the bland boring suburbs into the city, one gets a little overwhelmed at all the non-chain restaurants to try. North 17th Street in Richmond is a particularly restaurant-rich area--highly, HIGHLY tempted to eat my way down it. We'd already gone to breakfast at River City Diner, now we went for dinner at Lulu's. I know--Lulu's does a way better brunch than dinner. But if dinner was any indication the brunch would probably kill me with goodness (plus I live within walking distance of Lulu's sister resto Millie's and the venerable Hill Cafe which kind of takes care of all my brunch needs). I was kind of skeptical when we were able to walk in easily at Lulu's at 7:15 on a Saturday night and saw only a couple of occupied tables. But the space is well laid out, sweet lighting, kind of industrial-looking, gorgeous paintings of the overpasses and neighborhood on the walls, and we were greeted courteously. Lulu's seems to specialize in upgraded southern comfort food. I ordered chicken and dumplings ($18) while my husband got the fried catfish ($21). Bread was brought in a little steel basket, a couple of slices apiece of a nice baguette and an onion-rosemary foccacia with a citrusy olive oil for dipping, both breads deliciously fresh-tasting. As for the entrees, I was delighted that the dumplings were not the piles of dough dropped into sauce like a lot of chicken and dumpling dishes but cut diagonally and pasta-like like my southern-raised mom used to make. Accompanied by slices of moist roasted chicken in a creamy carrot-studded sauce and tender bacon-braised green beans--and a tiny bit of starch overkill with delicious from-scratch mashed potatoes--I enjoyed every bite. My husband's fried catfish was topped with a delectable onion sauce (I took a bite) over well-braised greens and rice and he enjoyed every bite, particularly loving the greens. We were both too full for dessert, although I was highly tempted by the offered margarita cake. Margarita? In a CAKE? Oh my God, I don't even ... Ahem (gains hold of self). Yeah, its reputation is as a brunch place but for dinner you could do way worse. Plus it's fun to watch the cooks at the open kitchen. Watching a burly tattooed guy carefully plating an entree always makes me smile.

We grabbed brunch at this neat spot yesterday, and it was simply amazing. You can't go wrong with their strawberry French toast with cinnamon creme fraiche. They also have an extensive list of brunch beverages. The restaurant is a mix of rustic and modern decor, tucked away in Shockoe Bottom alongside the open air market. Hoping to make my way back to Lulu's for dinner soon.

Great restaurant, with a cool vibe. I don't know why it's showing as closed here on Yelp - I was there last night and it was very much open. Nice mix of foods, with a good bar and beer selection. The chicken and dumplings are amazing!

Came here during Restaurant Week for a friend's birthday. Don't bother. Lobster tart appetizer was okay. Lobster was kind of tough, but as a whole it was... okay. Miso-braised Cod was also pretty average. The cod itself was cooked fairly well, but could have been a bit firmer. Everything else on the plate was bleh. Friend's pork tenderloin was somewhere between jerky and leather. Dessert was sweet potato pie which was pretty bad to be honest. Friend's tres leche cake had decent flavor, but was way too sweet. I don't think I'm a really picky guy, but Lulu's was definitely not worth the price, and as a whole I wasn't very impressed with the experience. Do not recommend.

Downgrading Lulu's to a 3 1/2 based on the over-priced dinner. The cioppino, veal osso bucco, and salmon entrees weren't that special, and though the waiter observed the opening of birthday gifts, he just stuck a candle in the pumpkin (cute, but bland and soggy in a mini pumpkin) and left it on the bill.

My party of 2 waited 20 minutes to get seated. Once we were, no one gave us menus. We got out own menus. Twenty minutes after that, we had to flag down a server to tell them no one has taken our orders. I've been here an hour and still have no food. This place might be nice when it is not crowded. Bottom line, they can't handle crowds. Go somewhere else if you have to stand in line. Also, they don't have any milk for coffee. I didn't appreciate that.

I recently visited LuLu's for my daughters and her cousins brunchday celebrations, we had a large party of 26, so I reached out to the manager Linda in advance to see if accomodations were possible. Not only did she accomodate, but she even personalized the menu's which was a nice touch. Even with the Italian Festival going on and us arriving at 11:30am we were still promptly sat, service was a little slow, but thats to be expected at that time and with such a large party. One thing that was disappointing was that our servers never really smiled, they seemed pretty irritable - which really puts a damper on the mood of any event (imo) and on top of that my Red Velvet Waffle that I had dreamed about was overcooked and really just tasted like a red dyed waffle, it was a real let down. At that point it had been a long morning and I didnt have the energy to waste complaining about it. However, thast said, I would return as they have plenty of other options to try on the menu.

After our failed attempt to go to another place (that took our reservation despite not actually having a dinner service--go figure), we ended up here. So a quick explanation--we like the place, and have nothing against it, but we just can't up it to the four star level a lot of other reviewers give it. First off--the space is very attractive. It's hip, but not pretentious, and we really liked it. Secondly, service is top notch. Our waitress was fantastic, guided us to just the right amount of food and helped us select dishes that, had they been executed better, would have been really great. And that's the catch which keeps it at just A-OK--the food was, for two of our three dishes, tragically flawed near misses, not great ones. We started off with the gumbo and the fried green tomatoes and crab salad "sandwich." The gumbo was the best dish of the night. Really, really tasty. But the "sandwich" was part great and part lame. The great part were the fried green tomatoes, which were perfect. Unfortunately, the crab salad was heavy on mayo and sweet pickle relish. It was like the tuna salad my mom made in the early 70s, before subtlety in the kitchen was discovered. This dish would have been tremendous with a standard crab cake, but the chef seemed to miss out on that idea. Our main course was their market fish special, a sauteed skate wing served on a bed of potatoes, mushrooms, and wilted spinach. I'm not clear on whether it was supposed to be served in a lemon butter or just butter, but it certainly tasted like the latter. The skate was cooked to perfect doneness, but it was overly salty and the butter left the whole dish feeling "fat." This dish was desperately calling for the lemon (or better yet, if they had pan roasted the potatoes and mushrooms with some olives to give it a tang--that I think would have really been awesome) and a lot more capers to brighten it up. But alas--the elements were there except for a key conceptial element. A hefty swing, to be sure, but a shallow pop-up resulted. Don't get me wrong--the food wasn't horrible or anything. It was nicely presented and competently cooked. But the recipies need either just a bit more daring or just a bit more imagination if Lulu's wants to earn a fourth (or fifth) star.

I've been looking forward to coming here for so long but unfortunately was disappointed. We came for brunch and I ordered the red velvet waffle and could barely contain my excitement. When it finally arrived it had a beautiful mound of pecan butter on it and was covered in whipped cream. Looks good so far. As I closed my eyes and opened my mouth to the first bite of waffle covered in butter and whipped cream expecting greatness I was sorely disappointed. All I could taste was burnt waffle. I thought okay, maybe just a bad spot. So I cleared off the butter and whipped cream to see if I could salvage the rest of it. The entire side was burnt, flipped it over, even more burnt. So sad, sigh. We also ordered a few bloody marys thinking Millie's sure gets 'em right, Lulu's must too. Not so much. Went home starving and very unsatisfied with the meal. I might try it again but probably not for a long time.

Everything was fine. We arrived (4 of us) around 7ish on an incredibly noisy Friday night and we were seated immediately. The waiter was fine. The mezze platter of hummus, olives and babganoush was tasty. Soup and salads fine. Dinners - braised lamb shanks, mussel and crab spaghetti and sausage and polenta were just fine. Nothing to complain about, nothing disappointing. But nothing noteworthy, nothing making me look forward to another visit. I'm not turned off but I'm not excited. I'll go again, for sure. Well, if I don't forget to.

I've been to Lulu's twice before and had great experiences both times. I wish I had reviewed those times as well, so this would show up as an amended review instead of a first time patron review. In the past I ordered a burger, which was delicious, and the corned beef off the brunch menu caused me to add this restaurant on my list of top 10 breakfast/brunch destinations in Richmond. Unfortunately my visit to Lulu's today was dismal from the front door to the time we left. The host was slow and incompetent. The Slow: We had a party of 2 and he told us the wait would be 10min. Not a problem, I looked around the restaurant and there was a table for 2 sitting empty and figured we would be seated there promptly. There was a party of 4 in front of us, but there was a booth for 4 sitting empty in the middle of the restaurant as well. He seated the party of 4 at the booth, waited for a party at the bar to vacate, reset the places, offered us 2 seats at the bar which I declined, waited a couple more minutes and sat us at the table that had been sitting empty since we walked in. Maybe my 5 years experience in restaurants is wrong, but why'd we have to wait 15 min? The Incompetent: While setting a table in the middle of the restaurant he dropped the knife from a set of silver ware on the floor. He continued to set the place, looked up and realized many customers probably just saw him drop the knife, and picked up the entire place setting. He returned with only a knife, realized his mistake, and eventually got the single place setting finished in 3 trips. Maybe that's why it took 15 minutes to seat 2 parties at already vacant tables. Unfortunately those weren't the only downfalls of today's experience. The waitress was extremely slow as well. It took three trips for her to get out drink orders correctly served, 2 waters and a coffee, came out 1 at a time. On her third trip she took our food orders and headed to the kitchen. After about 5-10 minutes the host came over and asked us what we had ordered. I told him and he walked over to the server station where our waitress was chatting with 2 other servers. She looked surprised by whatever he said and proceeded to enter an order into the POS. After another 10-15 minutes our food orders came out separately about 2 minutes apart. The Food: The most important factor in my reviews. Service alone can barely sway my review 1 star in either direction because frankly I just love to eat good food. Good or bad service is completely superseded by the product that is received as a fruit of their labors, as long as the place is clean and no one drops my silverware on the floor. I ordered the papusas with poached eggs. The papusas had a nice flavor and were not too oily. I thought they had a great balance of spice cooked into the soft hand made tortillas. The eggs however were terrible. The poached eggs were horribly overcooked to the point that the yolks were so dry they couldn't even be used to make deviled egg filling. My date ordered the pork burrito with my endorsement since the one I had at Millie's a while ago was so good. I noticed after a couple of bites she started eating the potatoes and completely ignored the burrito. She offered me half, which I accepted, and she didn't touch the rest. I ate a couple bites from the half she gave me and completely understood why. I'm guessing these sister restaurants don't cross train their chefs because this burrito was awful. The inside was bland and dry; dry black beans, dry eggs, dry rice. Even the carnitas, which at Millie's had been juicy and spiced so well I had a quick flashback to my S.F. Mission district roots, was stringy, tough, dry and flavorless. Shockingly, I didn't finish my half either. I will try Lulu's again because the corned beef with poached eggs I had on my first visit was delicious, and the eggs had been poached correctly that time! Hopefully my next visit to Lulu's will exceed my now drastically lowed expectations and I can amend this review to give this restaurant the rating I would have if I hadn't gone there for brunch this morning.

Saw the mixed reviews and was a little concerned. Came from mobbed Millie's and the owner told me to give this place a try. The boyfriend was so famished and hung over he would have eaten his arm or a small child if we'd had to wait for a table at Millie's so we came. The owners wife was lovely gracious and sat us quickly. The waitress was sweet and attentive although she gave me the wrong drink. We both ordered the huevos rancheros and they were excellent. As someone who prides themselves on their own rancheros I was impressed and took notes for future use. This place has a cool, hip interior, great music, nice crowd and is beautifully located. Ignore the horrible reviews and give Lulu's a chance. I am a huge NY foodie and I'd come back anytime.

The staff was rude! We had delayed people in our party and had management tell us our dinning was on a "time constraint" Then when we tried to leave so we wouldn't interrupt their "choreographed" night they held us up for 30 min just trying to pay the tab out. My girlfriend had traveled in from TX to have a fun girls night out to celebrate her upcoming wedding and we picked Lulu's because it sounded like it would make it a fun fancy night. We were very disappointed! Instead it was a pretentious place that in my opinion showed it was truly low class. Unfortunately some of our party was late to the reservation and this reason gave Lulu's management and staff an excuse to treat us with, what can only be described as, disdain. Ok food not but worth the treatment! I won't be returning & I don't recomend. PLUS: If you have a large party their menu asks that you don't use more than 3 credit cards per party so your event better not be dutch treat!

Went for lunch today and wasn't overly impressed. I had a burger and it was overcooked and tasteless. The fries were almost steak fries, seasoned and tasty. The dessert took forever to get to me and the caramel topping was not left off as requested. Enough service and food quality gaffs to drop it a star.....sorry guys but you are slipping and it is time to tighten up!

I also had a similar not-so-great first experience here, in spite of the fact that's lots of local hipsters and foodies raved about it. I had lobster mac 'n cheese with a lot of mac and very little lobster, and the service was perfunctory at best. But, every restaurant has a bad day, and so does every server or bartender, so I'm always willing to give a place at least three meals to convince me I should be a regular. I do love the industrial look and feel of LuLu's...it would be just as at home in the East Village of New York as it is in the Bottom.

Went to LuLu's on a friend's recommendation. The service was responsive and professional. The atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming. My date ordered and vegetarian wrap which she thoroughly enjoyed. I had the club sandwich. The plentiful toppings, to include a fried egg, were welcome; though the dish was a little too salty for my taste. The fries were good. I am excited to go back.

Food was OK at best, overpriced for the quality. There was only one other table but our waitress only came around three times the entire meal. One of our grandchildren accidentally knocked a chicken breast off the table and we asked for a replacement. Instead we got another chicken sandwich meal and were shocked to see a full charge on the bill. The waitress wouldn't help, the manager came over and proceeded to lecture us on why we should pay full price for something we didn't ask for and how to handle children in a restaurant even though she admitted to having none of her own. Her tone of voice and attitude were downright rude and something we have never encountered before. Charge me $3 for what I ordered, fine; refuse to even discount the full price for something we didn't order is WRONG. After coming back to lecture us rudely TWICE she had the nerve to follow us out of the restaurant into the street to tell us we had better not write a bad review. It would not have been a great review without the chicken dinner screwing and rude lectures by the manager; but with those she really didn't leave me a choice. We will NEVER eat there again! Also told the concierge at our hotel what happened (one of the largest in Richmond) and will continue spreading the word. And all the rude lectures over a $3 chicken breast! Amazing, but explains why the place was almost empty on a Saturday night with thousands of visitors in town for the marathon!

Highly recommend the eggs benedict and red velvet waffles for brunch.

I've only been here once for dinner but I must say, I like it. The decor is very original and hip, we were seated promptly and the staff was nice. I had the corn chowder to start and the Catfish/collard greens for dinner. The soup was epic, the catfish was satisfactory too. My dining companions had one of the the salads (decent), Mac n'Cheese (Amazing!) and meatloaf (also quite good). The only downside was they forgot one of our items but once our waiter realized it, he brought it promptly and was very apologetic. I guess you'd call this "Southern Fusion" and for someone expecting real southern food, it might not take the cake but this west coast native enjoyed it very much. I've been told that their lunch and brunch are much better than dinner so I hope to check it out the next time I'm in Richmond.

Dinner on a recent Friday night. Food was delicious and staff were friendly. Our server was very helpful and guided us in making some excellent choices: crab and avocado salad, BBQ pork belly and porch chop with kimchee - all fantastic. Bartender made fabulous drinks - try the Thestral!

the best brunch ever! I've been there several times, tried almost the entire brunch menu.....last time we were a party of 12 people, all of us were happy with the food. Try Crab Omelette, Shockoe Bottom Florentine and Huevos Rancheros: you won't regret it! I took 1 star because the cocktails are not that good...sorry :(

Great food in a casual setting. But not so casual that champagne seems out of place. This is a great place to have a few courses and a glass of wine with each one. Spend some time there and enjoy your company.

It's criminal how easy it is to get into this place on weeknights. We most recently went on a Thursday. Full entrees may be pricey, but the small plates are just as good. The spaghetti with crabmeat was fantastic. If you like fried green tomatoes, these are as good as you'll find. And if you are into room design, Lulu's has the coolest ceiling fans in the city.

Great brunch spot I went with four other people. We all ordered different dishes and all were good. Interesting menu and you won't leave hungry. It is popular so you may have to wait for a table. I never had dinner there just brunch but it was very good.

I realize the previous reviewers may want my head for this, but I was VERY disappointed with LuLu's. I will give the place 2 stars for being cool looking and having easy parking relative to the rest of Shockoe Bottom. I went with a friend for Sunday Brunch, and was very excited. The menu looked awesome, but the key word is "looked", LuLu's had one artsy looking waiter, who had clearly never served before or been trained in any fashion. Our coffee and orange juice were terrible. The orange juice clearly came from concentrate and the coffee was cold and lacking in flavor. I ordered the meatloaf benedict with a side of hash browns. The meatloaf bennie was awful. Maybe I only thought so because I have tasted a good hollandaise sauce before. The meatloaf was dry, the egg was ok, and the hollandaise was offensively bad. My hash browns, which the waiter initially forgot, were burned to a crisp. To top it off the waiter launched ketchup all over the table. Perhaps, I caught LuLu's on a bad day, but don't expect me to bother trying again.

Can I give 6 stars? I've been here 4 times for brunch and each time is truly worthy of an extra star for food and service. This is how a professional restaurant is run. Inspired menu expertly cooked and served. See you next time!

What has happened? Steady decline in service, menu choices and especially food taste and quality. On my most recent (and last) visit, had the worst service ever, evidently only tattoos and lack of hygiene now get you hired at Lulu's. I ordered the Rueben, it is a complete abortion on greasy rye bread. The corned beef (if that's what it is) was sliced about 1/2" thick and so tough I had a hard time biting through it and ultimately had to dispose of it into my napkin (in front of my business guests). The potato salad should have had potatoes in it but it was mainly mayo and mustard - inedible. When I finally got the attention of our horrible waitress, it took her 20 minutes to get my sandwich off the bill and then run my card. I used to really like Lulu's but like many Richmond restaurants, something has happened and they won't be around much longer.

This restaurant has unfortunately had a lot of issues since turnover in management and chefs. They still don't seem to have gotten anything right. The new chef does not seem to have hit his stride, nor does he bring the same flair to this place as the chefs at their sister restaurant Millie's do to theirs. Quality issues don't just extend to the execution of the food, but to the wait staff and timing as well. Waiters seemed to be woefully misinformed of the items on the menu, unable to offer descriptions or recommendations. When I ordered a few items, I was told 15 minutes later that they were out of that item, a ridiculous amount of time to wait! In addition, actual wait time for the food to come out came to over an hour. When they finally did come out, some items were cold. In the meantime, we clearly observed cooks stepping out of the kitchen to constantly text away on their cell phones. Overall, this was an atrocious experience. On top of that, they had the audacity to add an included gratuity even with their incompetence. With the same ownership, you hope that the magic inside Millie's might rub off on Lulu's, but it just hasn't happened yet.

Ummm... Comfort has this place beaten by a long shot. The lobster fritters were pretty much a ball of dough over seasoned with old bay. Neither of us could taste lobster at all in them. I ordered meat loaf which was good, but not great. I prefer my own recipe. Mashed potatoes could have used some seasoning. My friend ordered rigatoni (which I told her not to). I said to leave pasta to the Italians (love you Mom!!!) but she went ahead and it was very lack luster. Half of the dish was not even sauced. Service and decor was great... but it could not make up for the lack of exciting food. It's not like Comfort belongs in NY or anything, but it's unfortunately setting the bar in Richmond.

Good brunch, plus nice space and music, but the servers seemed very preoccupied, much more than the actual amount of traffic justified. I very much enjoyed the red velvet waffles, which are highly recommended to all waffle fans.

I have only been to Lulu's for brunch, but after three consistently yummy visits I thought it was about time to show some love. My food was awesome and everyone at my table loved their choices as well. The homefry-thingies that come with the meals are super good. The service was quick and great and the interior was cool too. I cannot speak for lunch or dinner, but if you are trying to holler at some good brunch, then go here...

Update (I had the mac and cheese, I came, I saw I conquered!) I am the first one to write about this place? This town is crazy. Perhaps I should not share how great it really is? Nah. It is too good to keep a secret especially in Richmond, where many restaurants are failing in the delicious category as well as the atmosphere. The inside is open, love to watch the cooks. Tat's anyone? WOW! The back of the restaurant is exposed brick that I believe was once two stories. Right... the food. I started with Lobster and Crab Fritters with a spicy mango dipping sauce. I did not know what to expect, but when I took the first bite I was amazed at how flavorful they were and not too oily. Fritters = fried. My entree was a Duck special, a tasty, moist hearty helping of duck. They did not skimp! Dessert? Well they were out of the Chocolate Espresso Cake; I went back later and got it, but it was dry. The Strawberry Shortcake was DELICIOUS! Where did they get strawberries that were so sweet in February? The homemade shortcake was dense and flavorful. Our server, nice guy very polite challenged me I would not be able to eat the entire portion of their Mac and Cheese for dinner. HA HA HA, little does he know I am a connoisseur of Mac and Cheese and after two bites I can tell if it will pass my test. I will take his challenge next week. Great place to go with a date, friends or a larger group. I believe they can accommodate up to 12 with a reservation.
