Nuevo Amanecer has been revamped since my last visit, and I was so impressed! This location used to look more cafeteria-style, with yellow booths and bare bones decor, but now it is very nice inside, much like the newer Lindo Amanecer on Broad Rock. It's clean, nice on the eyes, and feels like a regular restaurant. You'd have no idea it was in the back of a market. Service was good also. I told the waiter that I couldn't eat flour, and I asked if the tortillas had flour. Since she wasn't sure, she offered to have them make my tacos on the handmade tortillas. OMGOODNESS, SO good!! That beef tongue taco was extra amazing on the fluffy tortilla! I loooved the beef tongue taco, as did hubby. It really hit the spot! My husband had the seafood soup, and it looked great. It was very flavorful, and had lots of seafood, but I used to live in Miami, so I am a bit funny about frozen seafood, and this, of course, was frozen seafood and that wasn't any more disguised than it is anywhere else around here. Their melon juice is amazing! It even had lots of fresh bits of melon to savor. Yum, yum, and YUM! Melon juice is my fav, and there's is definitely the best I've had in a while. I can't wait to go back! They stay pretty busy, and the location's convenient if you live out in suburbia, because it's way closer than the other options, which are either way out in Chester, way out towards Brandermill, or on Midlothian, and most of them are far less authentic. Despite the somewhat questionable area, there really is some great food to be enjoyed at Nuevo Amanecer. Don't let the market scare you. It's a real restaurant with really great food!

This place is so much better, now that they have new management. They always have such good food. I usually only get pupusas, shrimp cocktail or menudo when I stop by. Oh, and their horchata is amazing! Try it!!!! Hands down the best menudo in RVA. CHECK THEM OUT!!
