Well, it's been a while since we've been to a Silver Diner, but the last time we went there, the menu was good, the food was good, and the service was better. When did the menu change? It's horrible now! When I think of Silver Diner, I think of good hearty comfort food, not organic, vegetarian, small servings that aren't good. The menu is also so convoluted that I may have missed things, and it was tiring just looking at it. I looked at the menu, and was craving a good classic, but I ended up ordering the Reuben because everything was either organic or vegetarian and I just don't care for that. I know they taste the same for the most part, but I'm at a diner, so I just don't want to think about it. As for my Reuben, the bread was crispy on top, but the bottom was soggy and mixed with too much thousand island, it was not good at all. The fries were also a bit greasy and I could not eat them all. The coleslaw was pretty good... it was different. My oldest son didn't like his All American breakfast because he got a small serving of eggs, the biscuit was just OK because it was a bit hard, and the potatoes were a bit over cooked. My youngest son did like his silver dollar pancakes, but he was still hungry afterwards because the servings are on the small size for an 8 year old who plays a lot of sports. The adult menu would have been fine for him as small as those servings were. My oldest son and my wife both ordered sausage links and the server told us that they needed to be cooked for a while, but he didn't know how long, so he wanted to know if they wanted something else. Since he didn't know how long the sausage needed to cook, he was going back to ask the manager and the sausages came out. He needs a clue on how long items cook. Also, he brought me a flat Coke, that I could tell was flat by looking at it. Also, my son's lemonade was extra bitter and you could tell by looking at it too. We didn't feel our waiter really knew what he was doing at all. Overall, I was frustrated the minute I looked at the menu, the service could have been better, the food was sub-par and definitely a down-grade from the old menu, and just not an enjoyable experience. We are definitely crossing The Silver Diner off of our places to eat.

We have lived in Reston for 10 years and have frequented Silver Diner often as a couple and sometimes with our in - laws. We love how the menu has evolved and the emphasis on healthy local choices. Now that we have a 14 month old, I'm sad to say we may need to reconsider visiting. The server insisted the three of us adults sit in a large u shaped booth and our son be in the aisle in his highchair. It was uncomfortable with all of the hot coffee and hot dishes going by but worse when every server put hot coffee and or plates (straws, etc) down right in front of our son. Do they not know that toddlers touch everything? I think this would be an important part of training especially for a family friendly establishment. The food was wonderful but I was too worried about our little one to fully enjoy.

Last night was my first visit to a Silver Diner despite passing it many times on Baron Cameron/Elden. We came because it was viewed as a kid friendly option (which it was). I was encouraged by all the signs for local produce, etc etc etc coming into the restaurant. The booths here are large and good for people with families. Service was prompt and friendly. There are an overwhelming number of items on the menu. I ended up getting the pot roast - I was hungry after a day of yard work, and it seemed to fit the bill. Well imagine my dismay, when the pot roast came, and it was in fact what appeared to be stacked up sheets of roast beef. The "local sourced" vegetables were definitely from a can. So was the corn - which was the highlight of the meal. Not only that, I am pretty sure the "pot roast" was a few days old and reheated. It didn't look or taste particularly good. It also was topped with a vinaigrette drizzle, which was the salad dressing poured over the pot roast and gravy. Not a big fan of that. My wife had turkey meatballs which were somehow undercooked (red inside) and burned on the bottom. The kids had a hot dog and pancakes. Both the kids meals looked pretty good. I was jealous. Since I only ate a third of my dinner, I planned on getting a milkshake (which also looked good) to end things on a high note. Unfortunately around this time my stomach started letting me know that might not be the best idea. We skipped dessert and headed home; I ended up getting sick with the "pot roast" coming back to visit me once again. Overall, definitely the worst meal I have had in recent memory - maybe ever. I got sick several years back from the Reston Macaroni Grill, but nothing like this. And at least the Macaroni Grill tasted good going down. I will NEVER go back - certainly not with so many other good options nearby - Jackson's, Counter Burger, Sweetwater, Mon Ami Gabi, Thai by Thai. Even the Wendy's around the corner is better. If you do go, I recommend something simple (pancakes) or something deep fried.

I always come to this place and love the menu and the shakes (but please, I don't recommend the 'healthy' chocolate shake). I am a HUGE breakfast person -- I love my eggs and my corned beef hash. The portions are great -- not too big and you can happily eat everything on your plate without feeling like you're going to explode. I came here a couple times for dinner (I recommend the Salmon and quinoa but the other dishes are so-so). One particular night I was craving some eggs and boatloads of meat for dinner so I ordered the bison rancheros and it hit the spot (BUT I will say it did need more potatoes and the tortilla chips on the side are not needed and kind of weird). I will say that the "Diner" part of Silver Diner isn't quite diner-y enough if what you're craving is some onion rings and a huge plate of grease.. but the healthier options are nice and if you come thinking you want a decent meal... you're in luck. (Who needs, that lovely, heart-wrenching good stuff anyways, right?) Just don't come in thinking "diner." Something's missing if that's what you want. Come in thinking "food" and you're good to go.

Four stars for great local ingredients and fresh, organic options served in a retro, chrome-trimmed atmosphere with 50s music and the Jackson 5 piped in to your booth. The typical greasy spoon it's not. Usually, I would only pick a place like this for breakfast or a burger, fries, and shake with my nieces. However, with so many flavorful and healthy options (including a special menu under 600 calories that's actually palatable) I find myself choosing the Silver Diner more often these days. I like that the chef revamped the menu completely a couple years ago with the aim of sourcing local organic ingredients and incorporating them into fresh new flavor profiles. Although there is plenty of dineresque comfort food like meatloaf and pot roast, you may want to venture off the beaten path to sample some of the less expected options like the Baja fish tacos replete with spinach, strawberry, and mango salad. Great simple flavors and fresh, local ingredients seem to be a successful formula for good food like grilled vegetable salad (with beets and roasted Brussels sprouts) crowned with salmon or chicken and drizzled with housemade vinaigrette. Earlier this week I even ordered carryout--the flatiron steak (hormone free) with smashed potatoes and substituted the onion straws for grilled veggies and a salad for less than $20. It isn't Ruth Chris, but what a pleasant surprise for the value.

Met some friends here recently for Sunday lunch and I was decently pleased. There was a pretty decent wait, but the way they do it is interesting. Everyone lines up in the lobby, and when you get to the front of the line you are seated (you not, not immediately, but you're next up when you get to the front of the line) so you have a visual representation of your wait time. Kind of cool. I had a buffalo burger. It was pretty delicious. I mean it's a pretty simple dish so I don't have a ton to say about it. It's your basic diner experience. Service was alright... though I feel like our waiter gave us attitude when we asked him to split the check. I get it - if it's annoying then it's annoying, but he seemed really pissed. Sorry, but, I would assume that kind of thing happens on the regs? I'm not going to take points off for it, but yeah, he could have been a bit more chill about it.

Party of 16 crashed at this place for a late night bite to eat....ended up doing a little more that that... had a Rueben and vanilla milk shake...it was very good...corned beef sliced perfectly thin and cooked to perfection...we had ppl order all kinds of food and everyone seem to like their order... Diners Rock!!!

Love their new updated menu and the service is comparable to any 4-5 star restaurant! My hubby is a health nut and gives this place 5 star!. He refuses to go to any fast food or places that serve mainly fried or heavy oiled entrees with no healthy options. He was so impressed with their menu that he raves about it to all our friends. This is out new hangout now!! Keep it up!

Silver Diner is obviously a nutzo popular spot in Reston. Line when I got there, line when I left. Sat at the bar without a wait and chatted up several folks, all really friendly and equally happy to be there. The menu is full of healthful and delicious options, many using locally sourced and organic ingredients. I can't wait to get hungry again!

Loved this place...every Sunday, this was our brunch joint. They knew us as soon as we came in...lots of stuff for whatever the mood may strike. We even took our extended family there for brunch too! I ordered the meatloaf and could only finish half, so doggy-bagged the rest. The next day, I was eating my leftover and was wondering why I had a raisin at the bottom of my dish...oh wait, the raising had antennae and legs...NOPE, IT WAS A ROACH. And not just a cockroach that possibly slithered onto the plate before plating...it was drenched in sauce and looked possibly cooked (omg, I stared at that roach hoping and praying it was something else). I was so disgusted, I called the store. They apologized and said they would send a free meal voucher but there was no way in heck I could every go back. It was a pity too because there aren't any other seriously good brunch places :-(

When a friend recently said "Let's go to Silver Diner", I was immediately taken back to my high school days when we went for the novelty, milkshakes and not much else. I remember it being mediocre food for the price. My friend is also usually discerning about her food choice so I was taken aback by her choice, but she assured me that their menu had changed. She had went with a friend of hers that has many dietary restrictions and even she was able to find many options on the menu. So long story long, we went and the it was great. The service was fast and the wait staff there is incredibly nice. Lots of farm to table dishes, and many healthy options. I've had a few breakfast things that have all been good, but the Local Farm Raised Bison Huevos Rancheros is so delicious! In fact I went there with a friend and we couldn't decide on sweet or salty so we got one of each with the intention of sharing. When the waitress heard of our grand plan, she had the kitchen split each of the two dishes into two servings, original fancy plating and all. How cool is that?! Anyway, let's just say this isn't the Silver Diner you remember from high school. I haven't had their non-breakfast items yet, but they look good and I will definitely be back to try them out.

A notch better than pancake house. Good choice of greasy food. Good service and good location for a quick bite.

With all the dietary restrictions people have these days, its hard to find a restaurant that can accommodate everyone. Silver Diner is an affordable restaurant that can do this. They have food for meat lovers, vegans, vegetarians, etc., Also the prices are pretty affordable with flexible hours.

Man, I used to love this place, but they are slipping. The last 3 visits have had problems, and I just hoped it was a one time thing. My food was overly salty, where my wife's was under seasoned. The service was sub par, and our server did not know the menu. Someone who dropped off our food said, "I see you asked for well done home fries, these don't look well done, so I'll bring you a side in a few minutes." At first we were happy to hear that, but of course he never came back with them. We sat there, done with our meal as we watched our server stacking boxes instead of being attentive to the table. I can't see us going back there.

Very interesting place, fun decor. We tried the Veggie scramble, bison burger w fries & small sundaes. Service was professional & courteous. Plenty of parking in lot.

Great place for fast, healthy, locally sourced comfort food with a twist. Food is always tasty and really hits the spot. Definitely a local favorite! Silver Diner is more than just a diner. It's a great place for both comfort food favorites, and healthy, local, fresh dishes which are really great, and priced right! I first found Silver Diner when I moved to VA in 2009 and I have to say, they have only gotten better over time. Chef Ype and his team do a really great job of keeping the staples on the menu (and improving them), and for providing a lot of seasonal, fresh, and interesting new items. The menu offers a few pages of healthy alternatives for those who have gluten allergies or those looking to cut calories. Even the ketchup is organic and local (although a tad sweet for my liking. Some favorites include their milkshakes, burgers (you can have bison, turkey, or beef), and their 24 hour breakfast options (I love the blueberry pancakes, eggs, and sausage (pork, turkey, or chicken - all locally sourced.) Atmosphere is casual with lots of wood, stainless steel, and neon, and there is counter and booth seating as well as some tables in every restaurant. The busiest times are Sunday mornings after church services, and lunch. This is also a GREAT place to go for a late meal with friends or to grab a home made desert. Their pies are AMAZING! Finally, their service is top notch! I am always greeted quickly upon coming in and treated like family by the staff. Everyone seems to enjoy working there, and all strive to provide the best service they can. The restaurants are also always clean and well maintained (I've eaten at several locations, although my home location is in Reston, VA). All in all, I really enjoy Silver Diner and it will remain a staple of my local dining options for some time to come.

The service and food are all excellent. This is the best diner I have ever been to. I highly recommend it! They have coin-operated, old-fashioned jukeboxes on every table that are great for children and adults. The food is very fresh and the recipes are unique. My favorite so far is the Veggie Huevos Rancheros. They have plenty of options for vegetarians and vegans.

  • Michelle B.

The updated menu here is absolutely phenomenal! There is literally something for everyone--regardless of any dietary restrictions you may have. Pescatarian, Vegetarian and Vegan options galore! Service is very good and the restaurant is always very clean. I love the pick-up service. You can call in ANYTHING--even desserts--and they will have it ready in 20 minutes TOPS! Also; they never fail to include napkins, silverware and condiments which is nice since it's the type of stuff that's easily forgettable. A little note: If you do use the pick-up service, please remember to tip the cashier a couple of bucks--it does take time and effort to box up your food and include everything required for you to enjoy your meal. :) Overall, 4/5 Stars!

I was here yesterday for breakfast with a friend and I was very impressed by the menu choices and the healthy approach this restaurant takes. The waiter, Domenic was very nice and went over the menu with me which includes low calorie and vegan choices. Despite the cook misinterpreting my order and accidentally eliminating the ham from my omelet, Domenic immediately apologized and had my order fixed and brought me out an entire new plate. I was very happy to see a sea salt grinder/shaker on the table as well as a pepper grinder, organic ketchup and Welch's Natural jellies on the table! (containing no high fructose corn syrup) Whoever decided to incorporate these healthier options has the right idea!!! I would definitely go back here again next time I visit my friend in Reston, VA!

I know this seems extreme, but this is the best diner I've ever been to. Fresh food, creative concepts, and fantastic execution. Doesn't sound like a diner, does it? My girlfriend and I had the cremeni mushrooms omelette and the huevos rancheros along with a waffle. All three were amazing. We were just driving from DC to Reston and were lucky enough to stumble upon this place on Yelp. I suggest stopping in.

I have a small Saturday morning breakfast group that enjoys visiting this Silver Diner at least once a month. The friendly hostess always greets us warmly, and the wait staff are very attentive. The best aspect of the Diner is the emphasis on "fresh and local" foods. Their two-egg vegetarian omelet is one of my breakfast favorites. Prices are very reasonable for very fine quality.

  • L D.

We've always been happy with the food and service here. Even when lines are long, they move fast. There is always someone to welcome you, the hostess is a very nice lady who has been there for years. Waiters are nice, service is good. Food is great. Parking, not bad. And I like that the Business Manager replies to any of the reviews with 3 or less starts. Now THAT's an awesome business practice that every business should employ. When you care, or act like you do, it makes even dissatisfied people feel better and maybe they'll even give it a second try.

Good local food, great local staff. I went here with my high-spirited and delightful niece and nephew. It's a favorite haunt of theirs. Spaghetti with marinara and a side of apple sauce is their dish. We enjoyed the hospitality orchestrated by the dynamic duo of Carlos and Victoria, who were lively and quick and filled with good recommendations. We left with many good organic calories in our bellies and a clutch of balloons in our hands.

Reminds me of NJ. Solid diner with solid food. Had a great omelette, wife had french toast. It's everything a diner is supposed to be. Well done. Even has the jukeboxes on the tables that play music through the whole diner. Would be five stars, but like everything else in the area, they add an extra $2 or $3 on everything for no reason.

I came in here blind - meaning I hadn't done any research or checked it out on Yelp before going in for a meal, and I'm rather surprised to see the so-so ratings now that I'm back home. I walked out of the Silver Diner today composing a 5-star review in my mind, and I try hard not to give out 5-star ratings very often. The atmosphere was a typical old-fashioned diner with mini-juke boxes on each table. However, I thought it was cleaner and a nicer quality atmosphere than your average diner. The service was prompt, friendly, and professional. No complaints about the service - our waitress did a great job and made us feel like she was genuinely glad to have us there. The food was simply awesome. I LOVE restaurants that operate using fresh local produce. They had old-fashioned milk shakes. I had the seasonal flavor of the day that was blueberry AND peach, with just GOBS of blueberries and peaches in it, and it was delicious. They have your standard burgers and fries type of fair, but then they also have an AWESOME breakfast menu and a lot of healthy options, too. We tremendously enjoyed our lunch here at the Silver Diner today, and I'm so glad I didn't check the Yelp reviews before we went. We were just driving by and decided it looked like a nice place to stop. Plus, the parking lot was mostly full, so we figured that was a good sign of a good restaurant. Even though it was busy, there was no wait for a table and our service was very prompt. This is a new bright shining star on the map for me. We don't go through Reston very often, but when we do, I'm going to seek out the Silver Diner.

I mean, it's a Silver Diner. So there's always that. But this place will always hold a place in my heart just for the fact that my friends and I have been coming here since high school. As a result, there are a whole lot of memories associated with it. Everybody knows that SD does a good (enough) breakfast at a cut-rate price, but their dinner menu is actually good, too. Their burgers are all good, and their chicken club melt is amazing. I also like their meatloaf- it's much better than you'd expect. Good fries, also. One last thing- all SD's shakes are good, but recently (well, somewhat) they've added something called the Vietnamese Coffee Bean shake which is, quite honestly, awesomely amazing. Try it. I'll be coming here as long as I can. It's a great option at any hour.

  • Paul M.

Much better than you've heard (and you've probably heard it's fantastic.) Fresh, healthy, and largely locally-sourced food served in a fun, family-friendly environment. Even if the line at the door is long, it moves quickly, and the experience can admittedly be a shade rushed, but that's the only knock against a "diner" that serves some of the best food in the area, regardless of price.

I have been going to Silver Diner locations for a few years now and have always been a fan of them. I have to say the best part about this is the milkshakes and the atmosphere. I have had multiple food options at this location and they all seem to be pretty good. My most recent visit was no different, the food was cooked well and brought out rather quickly and the waiter was responsive enough to what we ased. This location is great for classic american food and atmosphere and highly recommend it.

I've eaten here numerous times since it's close to my house, and every time I'm disappointed - except for one time when I went there for breakfast: the French Toast was pretty good, though overpriced. In fact, everything on the menu is overpriced, and they advertise "Fresh & Local", but most of their food tastes the opposite of fresh, and it's all high in salt and fat. For example, I ordered their new Chicken Pot Pie on Wednesday. The only thing good about it was the crust. Inside was creamy chicken sauce, chicken, peas, and (too much) corn, and I swear the corn was canned! (I've ordered other dishes here with corn and the corn sure tasted canned.) And $13.99 for Chicken Pot Pie was way overpriced. Is this one of Chef Ype's creations? I can't imagine what his point was in just putting in peas and canned corn, when I was expecting peas, celery, onions, carrots, potatoes, mushrooms, and maybe some broccoli. Stick to the basics, Ype! (I saw a video of him in a cooking contest making tacos out of Twinkies. Give me a break!) I don't think I'll be going back to this place!

I have eaten at the Silver Diner multiple times and usually get the same breakfast. Their Eggs Benedict is delicious. Today, however, was a disgusting experience. My coffee cup had caked on lipstick on the rim, only noticed after I took a sip. The coffee also tastes horrible. So I asked for raspberry iced tea instead. I drank most of that to find some type of jelly smudged on the outside of the glass. To top of my pleasant experience, half through my eggs Benedict, there was a hair in the hollandaise sauce. I won't be eating here again for a while...

Always exceeds expectations! Fresh, delicious produce. Amazing milkshakes. It doesn't get any better than Silver Diner! My biggest problem is deciding what to get. Definitely try some of the noodle stir frys made with quinoa noodles.

The service here is the pits. While the food "can" be good, you might wait for an eternity to be waited on. Today, we left after waiting 20 minutes to order. You should never wait that long time see a server. We have been sent multiple coupons, but they aren't much good if the wait staff is too busy to take your order. There are many other places to have a nice meal in Reston.....visit those instead.

biscuit: very good. i made an egg sandwich with 2 eggs over medium and a bagel. it didn't work well. i think it's because of the bagel, which is just ok, maybe a little better than a grocery store bagel, maybe not. not worth $2.49. not nearly as tasty as einstein bros. the egg sandwich at Panera Bread is very good. prices: good for biscuits and eggs.

This Silver Diner is constantly busy and as such service can be hit or miss. The food is good, the menu is brand consistent and even if service is slow I haven't ever been disappointed with the quality of my meals. I love that the Silver Diner uses locally sourced food on all of their menus and their kitchen turns out lots of healthy, as well as your not so healthy, diner favorites.

If you've read my scathing review of Amphora Diner in Herndon, you can guess that the only diner in Herndon I go to now is Silver Diner. Get this - Silver Diner also has a frequent diners club - you can bet your butt I'm a card-holding member! So what's the deal with Silver Diner? A healthy diner? Fresh, local food? Gadzooks! It's shockingly good. And how novel to go to a diner and walk out feeling the same as when you walked in, not like you're about to heave a heart attack. I usually order breakfast food - the caramel French toast is AMAZING. Definitely my favorite, even though they charge so much extra if you want strawberries on it. The omelettes are really good too. As for drinks, go with the mimosa (it has fresh strawberries), or a milkshake if you're not concerned about your waistline. As for the service, it has always been so friendly. I particularly like Giovanni.

Had breakfast here on a Saturday AM (just as they opened for the day) right after picking up a post-red-eye-flight friend from nearby IAD. Our options included: A) find a hotel restaurant and pay $25 for powdered eggs; B) go into the District and partake in all-you-can-eat-and-drink brunch buffet and mimosas; or C) find a diner in the DMV area (harder than it sounds since this isn't NY/NJ). Nonetheless, we found this SD in Reston (after getting off the Dulles Toll Road and losing our toll-free ride back to MoCo). The vegetarian huevos are excellent (if you are into eating kale and quinoa topped with eggs at 7AM on a Saturday morning...). The tortillas were crisp and appeared to be baked rather than fried in corn oil (no complaints here). The DC area is known more for late-morning brunching rather than early-morning traditional breakfasts and it was nice to have a Silver Diner available for traditional breakfast.

Friendly service is consistent at this location and I love how many good options they have to eat here! My absolute favorite item to order here is the Philly Cheese Steak! Their red pepper sauce is to die for! Additionally their triple-decker club is good. For desserts, their mile-high chocolate cake is killer, but if you like carrot cake you will be hard-pressed to find a better-tasting carrot cake than the one here. And shakes? Those are amazing here too! (Chai Tea Soy Latte is my new favorite.)

I was here the other night and it was the last time. This place was already really low on my list due to the service, but I kept coming back because it's really close to my house and they are open late. The last time I visited, we walked in and were seated and our drink orders were taken. After sitting for a while my boyfriend makes this face and told me not to turn around and of course, I did not listen. When I turned around there was a cockroach crawling on the trim of my seat. I just about screamed and ran out. I'm absolutely disgusted by this particular location. I will not be returning.

We were here on a Sunday around 5:30 p.m. It had been years since we had been to this Silver Diner. What made us give it a try once again was us wanting some soup and a sandwich for dinner. Upon entering, we were greeted by a young woman who turned out to be our server. She was friendly and efficient if a bit on the shy side. Once we were seated, we looked around and noticed that the customer demographics seemed to have changed as we noticed that most of them were about our age or older. Plus, many appeared to be regular customers as were the 2 women sitting near us who engaged us in conversation. To drink, I had some soda while my husband had a bottle of Yuengling. We both started out with some chicken noodle soup. Looking at the menu, it appeared that only bowls were available but our server told us that we could order a cup. A cup of soup is what I ordered while my husband got a bowl. The soup was thick and hearty---almost more like a stew---but had good flavor and arrived to our table hot. We both enjoyed it as it was decent. We both ordered BLTs which come on toasted sourdough bread with mayo and nitrite-free bacon. What the menu didn't mention was that the sandwich also came with a large portion of fries plus a small cup of coleslaw. We could have done without the fries as we found the large portion to be too much. Yet, they were well prepared. The coleslaw was good as it was lightly dressed with a vinaigrette dressing. The sandwich was tasty with a generous amount of bacon in it. All in all a good meal---one that we would have again. The Silver Diners we've been to have all been clean with average, decent food.

Had not been here in years so I thought I would give it a shot. It was about what I remembered. They did have lots of farm to table type stuff on the menu, but more of it was lunch/dinner type things, so I did not try them at breakfast. Overall the place was decent, very busy, but well run. I had a chopped salad which was probably a mistake. The lettuce was clearly not fresh and local, it tasted like it came out of a giant bag in the fridge. They also forgot to add some of the stuff on it (avocados). You go to a diner, you get diner food and diner service.

An old colleague and good friend of mine who recently moved to West Virginia suggested we meet in Reston, Virginia for lunch on a weekend. Reston?! The thought of venturing that far into Virginia frightened me, but then I thought -- why not check out a new restaurant? But, as I searched around, I didn't find many vegan options in Reston -- maybe I just didn't look in the right place. But, after having such a good experience at the Silver Diner a year ago, I figured that would be a solid place to meet and so we did. Back in 2013, the Silver Diner expanded their menu to many healthy choices including lots of vegan fare. It was surprising and exciting at the same time. You can read my first review of that menu here. Since then, the menu has continued to evolve and continues to add lots of fresh vegan options. So, we met at the Silver Diner in Reston. It looked the same as the others -- the retro decor inside and outside makes you feel like you are stepping back in time. We were seated at a small booth that did not have a personal jukebox -- oh well. The menu showed that they still had lots of vegan and gluten-free options. Set on trying something new, I ordered the Teriyaki Glazed Portabellas for $12.99. I just couldn't turn down the opportunity to have farro in a diner! Farro is an ancient grain that is difficult to find. It is hearty and filling and I was pleased to have it here. They placed three teriyaki glazed portabello mushrooms atop chipotle seasoned farro with garlic, cremini mushrooms, asparagus, butternut squash, and scallions and garnished it with cilantro and black sesame seeds. This is not the typical diner fare, for sure. It was absolutely delicious and a generously sized portion. The only thing I didn't like was the amount of salt used. The dish wouldn't have needed much salt at all, but this dish tasted like they dumped tablespoons of salt in it. It was way too much salt. But, besides how salty it was, it was really good and for what I got, $12.99 seemed like a fair price. The service on this Saturday afternoon was particularly slow and we finally had to flag down the waitress to get her to give us our check. I didn't care that much as we were there to catch up and were too enthralled in conversation to let the slow service bother us. Other than that, it was a great experience and Silver Diner could easily become my go-to lunch spot.

Great blueberry pancakes, and exceptional service! (Thanks Zach!) The food was delivered anazingly fast... And the restaurant was nearly full as well. Hats off to to the management & cooks!

Silver Diner has come a long way. First, the host is very nice and so are the waiters. The food is the part that has improved tremendously. The warm salad has great complex flavors and seems to be healthy too. I had the veggie Huevos Ranchero today and it was great. Meat was substituted with a black bean and quinoa mix that fooled me. It was excellent to say the least. I'm not even a vegetarian pansy (love my meat), but I liked these creative dishes. If you want an old fashion burger or omelet, they have that too.

Silver Diner is a mainstay when it comes to morning breakfast for our family. Great healthy and savory food choices from nitrate free bacon, to farm fresh eggs! They do it all breakfast (anytime), lunch, and dinner! They're open 24/7 so they got your late night cravings down too! This place is vegan friendly so pretty much everybody's diet is covered here. Been yelping a while now, and this is one of the few places that gets 5 stars. There is one caveat to this seemingly awesome divey diner, and that is the coffee is terrible (always burned, always in need of a ton of sugar, and creamer to even it out) I've been to at least for silver diner locations and their coffee sucks every time. Aside from that this place is on point with customer service and flavorful food.

You really can't go wrong with the Silver Diner. They have many locations in the area and none of them really disappoint. The bison huevos rancheros was very tasty.

I miss the way silver diner used to be.... i don't want healthy diner food..... honest at least I don't. Our Denver omlet was average. Potatoes could have used salt pepper onions.... something... the wheat bread was great but unfortunately we had ordered white. The worst was no tabasco.... seriously? Other hot sauces just don't work it for us on our eggs. I know we all have our favs but points at least to our server Diane who said we don't have but can I offer you..... versus other places who bring you what ever hot sauce they have thinking anything will do. We visit periodically cause its in the neighborhood and we keep hoping things will change.....

Very good food and great choices for gluten free, including dessert. Their meats are also all natural. They also have great choices for vegetarian meals and they handle a large crowd well. Service is usually good, but the food is really great. Bob really enjoyed eating there, especially the g/f fudge brownie with ice cream on top!

A nice retro looking diner across the street from Reston Town Center is great for a late night food outing with friends. The staff is overall friendly, service is pretty fast, and the food is pretty good. I had the chance to try the new peanut butter pretzel sundae and it delicious! Vanilla ice cream with cinnamon whipped cream, caramel and pretzels! A friend had a steak omelet and it was stuffed with steak so if you love breakfast food and steaks get that!

Superb service; excellent dining options - especially for vegetarians and vegans, and service times are reasonable even on busy days. My only complaint? Their tabletop jukebox service seems to "forget" certain tracks queued into the rotation at the restaurant. Twice, I have spent 75 cents to select songs, only to receive 50 cents of the value in playback gratification. Shenanigans, I say! Since the reboot of their menu, the Silver Diner has become one of my favorite dining spots in the DC metro area. It's a great spot to take your finicky friends for a delicious meal at a reasonable price.

Upon entering, my 5 years young sidekick and I were greeted immediately. The wee one was given extra special attention by the host. A Silver Diner cardboard farming truck was constructed and her 'Babia' (Piglet, really) was seated then in the back of it. Crayons and a coloring sheet were also provided. All of these extras were very much appreciated by both of us and it really made her smile - WIN! With a stellar first impression, our server had a lot to live up to. Unfortunately, to sum up my thoughts of Andrew: lackluster. Yes, he was nice and yes, he performed his job. It was just AWKWARD. No warm and fuzzies from Mr Andrew. Just business. And since the youngin and I already knew what we wanted, there wasn't much to handle. Since my lil friend devoured her meal, I'd say the silver dollar pancakes (which we MUCH bigger than silver dollars!), scrambled egg and strawberries were a success. I ordered the Paradise French Toast - 3 slices of french toast covered in coconut topped with strawberries, caramel and agave drizzle. The french toast was coated with just enough coconut and the drizzles of caramel and agave were light, but enough so that I did not need a drop of regular syrup offered to me. The strawberries were plentiful and an excellent accompaniment. It was all very filling and left me very pleased. Next time I am out with a craving for breakfast, I know where I'm headed. Straight to Silver Diner and the Paradise French Toast!!

I can sum our experience up in two words....slow and loud. Our service was extremely slow and we only stopped in for dessert. There was a group of extremely loud teenagers using vulgar language. The staff made no attempt to quiet them down. Not a great first impression.

Ok...so after 5 more visits...I have this to say... Service and friendliness is very consistent. The servers and staff are always friendly and responsive. As for the food...its pretty damn good for a diner. I mean, wow. From waffles, to pancakes, fish tacos, salads...impressive. A few misses here and there, but all in all, its probably better than the majority of the stuff you get at the Reston Town Center, without the snobbiness. To improve this place I would be consistent with portions. For breakfast (American Breakfast)...I ordered it 3 times and would always get different portions. One day I would get very little eggs and lots of ham. The next, I would get lots of eggs and a few pieces of ham. This throws me off because I dont know when to order an extra protein serving. Homefries...at times its fresh, at times they've been out and reheated too often. Anyways...the environment is great and the people are awesome and that is why rather than walking out my front door to Teds Bulletin, Clydes,, Jacksons, etc., I would much rather drive a couple blocks to this place...a diner that has transformed itself from mediocre to high quality dining.

  • Jerry T.

It's not 100% consistent but, in a pinch I will eat there or get take out. The mozarella with tomato sandwich is pretty good, the new dessert that features pretzels, and vanilla ice cream and peanut butter is a big fail. It's not very interesting, and I could have thrown it all together at home for less. The restaurant atmosphere is okay but sometimes parents bring their screeching brats, and we've asked not to be sat by them and sometimes the host still sits us next to them. That is a tough one. I really wish the servers could tell the parents to calm down their brats. I don't see how that would be too much of an imposition. I prefer to eat my meal in peace, or relative peace, lol.

This is a perfect diner. I was craving a healthy breakfast and they provided. The Oj tastes like real OJ not he concentrate stuff. They have local Amish eggs and creative menu items. I was absolutely satisfied with my meal and the ambience was perfect with table jukeboxes at every table and impeccable themed decor. And the staff was a delight!

Our waiter was C*d* and he was abysmal. First, he served us our appetizers without plates for sharing. When i finally got my plates i noticed that he was lookong at one of the plates a little weird. Sure enough it wasnt clean, he turned the plate clockwise to "hide" the left over cream cheese spot (still wet) and placed it in front of us . Then, we got sprites and he gave my husband a water refill... and our table was never cleaned up, the appetizer was done, yet the plates were all there. No one cleaned up. Our waiter is too busy making convos with his coworkers, over making sure we are getting our stuff... been to other silver diners before and never disappointed -friendly and prompt staff. I wouldnt recommend this specific location. Better luck elsewhere.

A lot of great options to eat, fantastic milkshakes, and good prices. Sometimes they're a bit busy and things can take some time, but it's a great place to head for a relaxed meal that's tasty. The biscuits are fantastic too, and the fries are delicious.

Great local food, friendly staff, quick service, and a retro vibe in a bright and clean diner. Be as healthy as you want or as indulgent as you want, and have any kind of meal, at any hour of the day. Have your egg white, organic cage free omelette with tofu and a chocolate chip extra whipped cream milkshake; balance it out :) I do really enjoy this place and we come here every other weekend just about. I like how their menu items are clearly labeled as to what is vegan, what is vegetarian, what is gluten-free, what has local/organic items, etc. It's a great choice for anyone, and especially those otherwise-awkward meals where you're trying to appease everyone's different needs and preferences. Their seasonal special omelette right now, the Oaxaca Omelette, is SO FREAKING GOOD.

  • Jessica G.

I have eaten here numerous times and have never had a bad meal. I've had everything from breakfast entrees (like an omelette) to dinner entrees (like the Cajun salmon). Silver Diner is definitely a step up from typical diners. They use more natural products and have an extensive menu compared to other places. It also has a cute retro charm and there's always something for everyone. Staff is usually really great too. Out of all the times I've been here, I've only had one mediocre waiter. Keep up the good work, Silver Diner!

  • Julia A.

It is my second visit to this restaurant and I really like their breakfast. They have an extensive menu, and they use more natural products. I have the veggie omelet which it was really good, I love their coffee. Service is very good and the restaurant is clean.

WARNING: BIG CHANGES HAVE HAPPENED AT SILVER DINER! I went to Silver Diner a few years ago and declared that I'd never go back, choosing the local chain Amphora Diner or even IHOP over it. But we noticed that there's a new menu and -- OMG. This is not the same Silver Diner. If you're like me and previously found this restaurant to be kind of 'meh,' I urge you to give it another chance. Not only has Silver Diner partnered with tons of local farms to bring you a wonderful flexitarian menu, but also they've created fresh, delicious and amazingly interesting dishes. I went for breakfast and couldn't resist trying the bison huevos rancheros. That's right. Ground bison hash with rice and black beans, peppers and onion, two eggs cooked juuuust right, cilantro and a great, fresh avocado dollop. Paired with flax seed tortilla wedges! The only downside to the visit was that they didn't put a carafe on the table even though everyone was drinking coffee like there's no tomorrow. But the service overall was good, and this is absolutely five-star food. I'm impressed. This is exactly the kind of turnaround I never expected a chain of diners to make, but they pulled it off.

  • Amanda W.

This is one of our favorite places. They have great food, healthy options and always have awesome service. I never would have expected farm to table options at a place that looks like an old diner on the outside but I have been pleasantly surprised. Every silver diner I've been to has been awesome!

  • Helon L.

First off, I have to say it has been a couple months since I've been to this silver diner AND granted, it was for late night grub. So maybe that explains why the food had always been fairly decent?? I kept coming back for their bread pudding mainly to accompany my meal. That's usually what made me return for breakfast food late night. So today, I took my parents here for brunch and everything we ordered was bland! The caramel French toast was a large portion but there wasn't any flavor!! Not even butter or cream to accompany French toast? It was dry toast with caramel drizzle and two eggs ordered over easy but was way too runny. I guess it was busy, but the quality and taste was mediocre. One thing that was exceptionally bad was the coffee! It was so watered down... What a way to start a breakfast/brunch, huh? (Sarcasm) :/ In summary, bland coffee, tasteless food, burnt chicken sausages that tastes like cardboard, and soggy unseasoned home fries means terrible breakfast...

OMG. I guess I haven't been to Silver Diner in a while, and recently took some friends there for what I thought would be a basic breakfast. Wow, was I in for a surprise. As several have mentioned, they have switched their menu to a new organic/locally grown menu. I was amazed, and the food is spectacular! I know a few people have complained that they want food the way it was... blah blah blah... if you want that, go to the other "diner" in Herndon. The food here is fantastic, and I had one of the best breakfasts I've had in a while. I will definitely be eating here more often now that I know that it has a much better menu!

  • Rusty S.

I frequently visit Silver Diner. It's one of the few places you can eat that you typically go to because it's convenient late at night, but also because the food is pretty good. It's pretty typical for a diner as far as food goes. They do have a few items that I wouldn't recommend such as the chicken tenders or quesadillas. But, others such as their burgers and sandwiches are above average for diner food. It should be noted that the milkshakes here are by far the best you can get in the area! The things that really makes this place worth coming to is the excellent service. Every server here is both attentive and incredibly friendly. I've actually had light conversations with them just about every time I come in. It makes the experience all the better. I don't expect much from diner's in general, but this place really goes above and beyond when it comes to the service. It's always one of my go-to restaurants.

I can't say enough about the Silver Diner in Reston. I had not been here in a long time and was amazed with the healthy choices that are now on the menu. It is endless!!! The food is fresh, delicious and worth every penny. The service is great as well. I try to come on Saturdays with my son and the wait is never more than 10 minutes or so. The parking lot can get full but you can find a spot. I also never feel rushed to leave and I love the jukebox. Now I just need to come back for lunch or a late snack. Right now I am just loving the breakfast menu. Koodoos to the one who made the changes!!

Been here a few times. Good for a quick breakfast fix. omlettes were ok but decent portions. Burgers were average at best. Wings were no good. Like the pankacekes and french toast. Their breakfast options are the feature here I'd say.

I went to this place twice for breakfast. . Breakfast is not hard so nothing much to say except you don't eat such heavy stuff at home. Friendly staff, prices are reasonable.Maybe one day I will try lunch here ;0 They have wi-fi and a lot of business types can be seen in the morning as the location is good and its easy to talk.

I must say that at first I thought this was going to be another greasy, unhealthy diner....boy was I wrong. Silver Diner has something for everyone! While you can still get the usual diner food here, you can also get healthy food made with locally grown and organic products. I went here for breakfast and it was delish!!!!! Really look forward to returning and trying out some of their other dishes. My friend told me the whole menu has been revamped in the last few months.

I have to upgrade my rating to 5 stars and I am normally not a big "Diner" fan. SD has really improved in the last 12months and serve really excellent tasty food. In addition SD offers many more healthy choices made from local (!) sources. They even replaced the boring toast with a great bread. Service was excellent as well. They buy fresh and local ... I love it !!!! 2 thumbs up to offering healthy food choices!!!

This place is a delight. The service is friendly, enthusiastic, and attentive (their corporate trainers must be amazing). The food is fresh, imaginative (for diner food), affordably priced, and is served in a very timely manner. Have NEVER had a bad experience here.

I usually stop by this place after work with my co-workers and so far, i have not been disappointed with the place. Good food and very friendly staff. Always a good ending from night shift. Always get their breakfast menu but they have other choices as well (dinner/lunch menu) they also have healthy options which can appeal to most people.

About as good as diners get. I have had a number of breakfasts there, and they were hearty American diner breakfasts, well served, and on warm plates. I order what I want, even if the combo is not on the menu, and they do not blink an eye or overcharge. The one warning is remember to tell them not to put the crapola seasoning on any meat, e.g. steak and eggs. And it's a diner, so expect diner coffee and there is no espresso machine.

The food was absolutely delicious! We got the bison huevos rancheros and the pesto bison burger with sweet potato fries. The burgers had a bit too much goat cheese for my taste though. The actual service, however, was dreadful. We waited for a long time before someone even came to ask for our drink order, and then later for our food. A completely different person brought our food and never stopped by our table unless we called him. I don't normally flag down waiters, but if I didn't we wouldn't have gotten any water, the check, or anything! After we asked for the check it took a long time for it to get to us. I always do my best to sympathize with waiters, but it was hard when the area cleared out and he still never stopped by. In fact, he never introduced himself to us. His name started with a p; that's all I could catch from the rare instances I saw him. This was our first time and we're not sure yet if it'll be our last only because the food met our expectation.

Delicious is all I can say. Do not mind waiting in line when they are crowded no problem for me. Food is nice and fresh and the service is sincere. I go their at least twice a month. I highly recommend their "Baby Feta with Mushrooms" which includes; tomatoes, toasted bagel, cream cheese, served with seasoned home fries. The prices are reasonable and the portions are large.

What the HECK happened to Silver Diner?! Scrambled Egg Whites with Spinach, Whole Wheat Toast, fresh tomatoes, fruit bowl ..??? A late night excursion gone awry in a good way ! I am shocked to find out about this new menu, in a good way of course. Glad to see food options for those who want something a lil less greasy... Kudos to the Silver Diner for upgrading.

Not a huge fan of diners, but I'll judge them on their merits, and Silver Diner gets 5 stars. A terrific menu of simple, interesting food rather than the typical cholesterol delivery systems at a lot of competitors. It's a fun, bright, clean place with comfy booths. Had the cajun salmon with brown rice and mixed vegetables. Everything was hot and perfect. Diners fail by soaking wilted vegetables in butter and lumping them in a pile. These were crisp, fresh, natural flavors not caked in salt. Rice was loose with great texture. Salmon held its own. Also had the cajun chicken penne. Diners fail by drenching pasta in a heavy cream sauce. Not here. Light seasoning on the ample helping of al dente pasta. Finished with apple pie a la mode. Ice cream was the real deal. I can be a DC food snob when summoned. Simple fact is that there are a lot of restaurants that would have served that salmon dish for $27 as a dinner entree. And a lot of restaurants would have featured the pasta for $18. Silver Diner charges a lot less than that, and that's a great value. Great value gets 5 stars from me.

I do NOT understand why the review for this place is a 3.5 on average, when this is sooo good. In terms of reviews, I am specific to why it requires a 5 or a 1, based on the places. Food: Quantity: Really good portions. Our son loves their food more than many other restaurants in the area. Quality: Really good quality too. Their shakes are amazing, their food is awesome. Presentation: Good presentation for a diner. I would expect a diner to not worry too much on presentation and that was good as well. People: Guest/Customers: Very inviting. Staff: Very friendly and inviting. Overall: Really good place for a family outing/eating. Location & Decor: This is made to look like an old school diner and looks awesome. The location is great as well, easy to commute and parking. Cost: It is not as expensive as other restaurants in the area. It is pretty good for families and kids.

This place just recently changed and reduced their menu to promote healthier meals made with locally grown produce. At first I have to say I was a bit skeptical, especially because some of my favorite items such as the Maryland crab entrees were no longer available, but considering that those items were more fattening and I'm on a diet, it didn't really bother me. Nevertheless they do lose a star because the menu change, which makes them seem more like a TGI Friday's or Chilis as opposed to a real traditional diner like it was when I last visited a couple months ago. I ordered the salmon sliders with a mango-strawberry-dried cranberries & walnut salad. Good combination for someone looking for a light, healthy meal on a hot summer day. Bottom line: although the selection has been reduced, the quality of the food, at least based on my first experience, has improved.

Boy do I find some really odd types of restaurants in the DC area. Organic Chinese and now a diner for a health conscientious person. I'll admit the food is on the good side. These guys use local produce, some organic vegetables....and also have organic ketchup on the table. It's an interesting concept b/c you never associate a diner with health. Anyway, I was thinking of having the breakfast menu but instead I tried the chicken burger ($7.99) and added in my mix of cheese, onions, lettuce, tomatoes etc and had a substitute of onion rings for fries. Total came out to be around $10 and for the price and quality, it beats out on all the average chains out there like TGIFs and Ruby Tuesday's (one notch above). They do sell local beer brewed in VA (couldn't recognize what they were) and that's quite cool. The ambience of the place is great (it's much better than any diner that I've been to). Just remember that this place is very popular on weekends as a post-drinking hangout spot so u may need to wait a bit during late hours of the weekend.

When it comes to Silver Diner, you can either take it or leave it, or you're a fanatic and fast for hours before visiting. I'm the former, but I know many people who are the latter. They fast and then dig into the generous appetizer and main meal offerings, and still have room for what they really came for (who are they trying to kid???).....a malt. The malts are meals in themselves. What surprised me most about Silver Diner (this location at least) was their wine selection. A better selection of Virginia's offerings than Vinifera Bistro, which I will continue to bash in Yelp reviews until they fix that problem. As for food, the comfort variety rules supreme here (this is a diner after all), they do have some healthier options but I usually go straight for the open faced turkey sandwich with gravy. Almost as good as the one grandma made. Calling this place a diner is kind of a disgrace to true diners and coffee shops. If you want the real thing, try 29 Diner on Lee Highway in Fairfax, the one with the neon sign that hasn't been updated since James Dean was alive. For a true coffee shop experience, Virginia Diner a few blocks away from this Silver Diner, on the way to Herndon, is more of a greasy spoon variety. Three stars. Two stars could be forthcoming if I hear Rockin Robin one more time in this place.

Its a diner. Its a good diner, definitely the most choices I've ever seen at a diner. I was impressed with many things, and many things reminded me it was a diner. 1.) They serve alcohol (not normal diner behavior and was sort of fun. My counterpart ordered a seasonal Mimosa, Yum) 2.) That mimosa, came in a beer mug...with a Tapioca straw - that was a little "diner" of them. But made us laugh for the rest of the week, so I suppose its not so bad 1.) They have some healthier options (not diner behavior) 2.) The healthier options are so-so. Its a Diner, get a burger. We generally really do enjoy this place whenever we're in town, they do have good options, and friendly service. you can order the healthier options and some of them aren't so bad, the salads are pretty good, and the omelets are pretty excellent, but there are some things I just wouldn't suggest ordering from a diner. If you're with many indecisive people I'd choose this place, because the menu is very diverse, and you can get all of it, at all times. No one will be disappointed with the selection.

I can't believe that this place only has three Yelp stars!! I absolutely adore Silver Diner; it is my go to place anytime we want to go out for breakfast or have anyone in town that we want to impress. The diner is clean and the wait staff is always so friendly and prompt. I haven't had a single thing on their menu that isn't completely delicious - my favorites are their omelettes and their goat cheese bruschetta. There are an abundance of healthy options on their menus and my kids love the fact that they can always get fresh strawberries there. If you haven't tried the Silver Diner I strongly suggest you get out for breakfast tomorrow.

I was pleasantly surprised to find this place on a late night. I was a bit dubious bc i didnt want anything heavy, but they actually have some good healthy choices, despite being a diner. The Asian chicken salad was good, and the chicken noodle also good. Good non-fast food, non-bar later night option.

  • Marc R.

As a previous reviewer points out, they have redone their menu to emphasize healthy and local. This is great for marketing. But the truly healthy options are limited, and beyond that, my guess is: high fat, high salt, high calories -- but hey, that's why you go to a diner right. OK, I'll grant them that. But it fails on both fronts. For healthy, the steamed vegetables are disgusting and have no flavor. For decadent diner food, I have had better for the price. They do throw in all sorts of kids specials (to offset the high prices), which makes it a draw for people like us with small children, but not enough of a draw to come back here often.

One and a half. Really for the many fond memories from high school of coming here with friends late at night. My friend Ben calls over the waiter and says, "Excuse me, can you tell me what this is on the bottom of my bun?" The waiter clears his throat. "Wow. That looks like mold." Cue rush of manager offering to comp and replace his meal and throw in a gift certificate as a bonus, and the emotional scarring of the 7 people with us.

We came at the recommendation of the hotel desk and immediately changed our weekly plans to include breakfast here. The prices are reasonable, the food is great and the staff is helpful and friendly. The food is all local when available. Portions are appropriate, I didn't walk out with a sense of shame or an overwhelming need to find the bathroom. The biscuits & gravy are made the right way. The goat cheese omelet has tomatoes that look like they came right out of the garden. The only 'con' seemed to be the breakfast hour on the weekend was busy and we got the impression the cook was a wee bit rushed. Food quality suffered a bit. Coming back tomorrow for the good beer selection and some crabcakes.

My most recent visit 1 or 2 star, I give it 3 because of the other visits. The kids food was perfect, but my wife and I got undercooked burgers. Both were clearly rare, not even close to medium. Not thrilled with that one at all. That said the vanilla shake was perfect.

The food here is fresh, local, and for most of the menu, seasonal! Silver Diner offers quality vegetarian options like vegetarian sausage and vegan chili but the best part is that the nutritional information is right on the menu. It makes it easy to plan out a healthy meal. They are good with using minimal oil and butter in their food which is a rarity. If your going for breakfast, have one of the homemade biscuits ( that didn't some from a biscuit mix) or an English muffin baked in a local bakery.

There is nothing "classic" about this diner. It's not in PA, NY, or NJ. It's not owned by Italians or Greeks. And there's no Scrapple on the menu. Hell, there aren't even grits on the menu most of the time. The food is fine for breakfast. I mean, breakfast is pretty hard to screw up, right? But the coffee is pretty awful and the concept isn't really done well. If you want a diner, try one of the Amphoras or the Metro 29 Diner in Arlington.

Okay, so Silver Diner has always been decent in my book. I'm not a huge fan of diners...they're kind of just like an Ihop that warps you back to the 70's or something. I want to know who thinks it's okay to put juke boxes on the table with extremely annoying and outdated music on them? I think I'll keep my quarters to myself, thank you very much. Anyway, so the food. I have always eaten either breakfast or some sort of sandwich or entree. I wasn't really sure what I was feeling until I turned to the first page of the new menu and there was a huge emphasis on breakfast items. Also, the menu emphasized the restaurant's use of items from local farms, gluten-free options, and healthier meals. I was instantly geared toward the American breakfast-- eggs, bacon, hashbrowns and a biscut. I ordered a pancake too. I was totally not expecting my meal to be half as good as it was. You can't really mess up eggs, but I didn't think it was possible for them to taste THAT good either. And they did not jip you on bacon like Ihop frequently does. The pancake was awesome, too. Not too sweet, not bland, just right. It was the perfect breakfast meal. I wish there was a Silver Diner in Loudoun County, because I'd be there all of the time for breakfast food. I will admit that I'm not a huge fan of the sandwiches and entrees on the menu...but there's a 99% chance that it's probably just because I'm a picky eater. The service was excellent. We were instantly greeted and seated, and our waitress was a sweetheart. They have changed a bit in terms of the menu and offering a wide variety of healthier items. I think the service has gotten a lot better to. Check it out.

Definitely popular and quick-service. I'm a vegan and my local friends knew this menu sported vegan options. Major caveat: there are NO VEGAN BREAKFAST CHOICES. So go prepared to eat lunch or dinner options instead. They do have a listing for a vegan shake, which is certainly a first I've seen. Unfortunately, i just went in hoping for vegan pancakes or waffles (a rare, rare treat) and didn't find anything. Not even the oatmeal was listed as vegan, which is a usually safe order.

Food was super tasty. Had the imperial crab eggs Benedict. Orange juice was lovely. Waited a long time to be seated but that just another sign as to how good their food are.

Amazjng- firefly farm omelette with goat cheese, fresh basil, and balsamic tomato. Healthy substitutes available which is nice. Pricey but fresh local produce which makes it worth it. Comfy booth feel, friendly service,

Crazy busy on New Years Day but just a minimal wait as the excellent management kept the line moving. When seated, folks didn't feel rushed at all. Even on such a busy day, it was still an extremely well-managed place with excellent service from very friendly servers. This is a much improved place from a few years ago-with lots of locally grown/ produced ingredients (often organic) resulting in healthier but tasty dishes. The outstanding management/ service is the icing on the cake. (And no deafening, blaring music, but softly playing music from some of the individual juke boxes)

Some of you are quite harsh! It's a DINER, not a four-star eatery, and it professes to be nothing other than such. Anyone going there shouldn't expect top-notch service and finger-licking good food. You go there if you want to entertain a few friends for a cheap lunch or breakfast, and that's just what I have done twice already since moving here to Reston and will continue to do. I had a few "better" diner experiences back in PA, but it's the best (and one of the few for that matter) diner experience I've had so far in NoVA. Our first jaunt here was for breakfast, and the food quality is pretty much on par with Perkins (for those familiar with that Northern/Upper Midwestern chain). I cleaned my plate, and my tummy was quite satisfied, as I'm not typically accustomed to eating ANY breakfast, let alone a cooked one. We had a cute young waiter that was very attentive to our needs despite the busy "after-church" rush that we apparently hit on that Sunday morning. The pricing was reasonable in relation to the portion sizes, and overall we had a positive experience. Our second time here was last weekend, where we dined here on Saturday night for dinner. Our waitress was a shorter heavy-set middle-aged woman who didn't speak English very well, but she was very patient with us, even though two of my relatives kept wanting to switch tables because they were complaining about feeling cramped. In the end the six of us fit comfortably in a front corner booth, and we proceeded to order. I had a good milkshake (not great, but "good"), and I was pleased to have received such a large "refill" portion in my stainless steel cup to replenish my shake. My burger was very good (once again not "great"), and my fries were just okay. I WILL return to Silver Diner. It's a DINER folks! You shouldn't go in there expecting to be "impressed." Perhaps I'm just easy to please, but I truly came in with low expectations and left reasonably happy.

Ate there with my two daughters while taking one of them on a college visit in the area. Very polite service, and clean attractive establishment. But the food was overpriced and not very good tasting. Really was not traditional diner food in my opinion. I wouldn't go back.

Silver Diner has really stepped up their game. I'm not sure if this is something that is going on at all Silver Diners... but I was happy to see that they were working with local farmers and such to bring healthier options to their menu. I'd pick SD over an IHOP or other chain any day now that I know they're doing this! Good work.

This is our default place for a restaurant. Wide selection of food, and very good quality. Waitstaff is excellent, and we have never had a bad experience. If you are looking for a good place to go for the family, we highly recommend the Silver Diner.

I'm from jersey. so i dont *expect* this diner to measure up. It didn't. But, the lady that sat us was nice. The guy who served us... was difficult to understand... heavy hispanic accent... which is okay, but he spoke so quickly because they must have been understaffed.. and he had a ton of tables. Fair enough. I duno.. when i say diner... i expect hearty, greasy, tasty food... and lots of it. When they brought the burger and fries.. i could see the plate thru the fries... (in other words.. there weren't that many). Yes, we could all use less food in our diets.. and healthier stuff too... but if i go to a diner for a burger and fries.. then gimme a god damn burger and fries!!! Anyway, I think the one that's in Mclean is better, but this is closer, so .. is what it is. Next time ill head back to Amphora. Not a ton better, but great service and tastier options. .. and closer to me. Its passable, just not memorable.

Traditional diner with a twist: organic, local options, and VEGGIE SAUSAGE! I wish more places would offer a veggie sausage option! Great breakfast!

A chain store diner built in 1950s splendor. The milkshakes are great and the hours allow for late night sandwiches. Otherwise it's nothing special.

I have never been to a restaurant that does not know how to cook eggs benedict. They did not poach the eggs, they were fried! When we mentioned this to the waitress, she seemed confused. Then stated that's how they always do their eggs benedict! It will be the last time I go to this pseudo diner.

The friendly staff makes this place a great standby for families and an obvious choice when my culinarily cautious mom comes to town. The food is meh - it's diner food, after all - but I find it cute that they try to be adventurous with vegan slaw with cranberries, bison burgers, and organic fare. The wasabi salmon sliders were pretty interesting, in a good way.

Breakfast is passable. Lunch and dinner are not. Someone nicknamed this place the Sodium Diner and it resonates. IT IS NOT A DINER. I am not a diner expert but have been to some in the Northeast. There are even a couple of diners within a reasonable drive. Silver Diner is a chain. If your expectation is that SD will be like a NY or Worcester diner, fuhgetaboudit. Again, breakfast is passable. The sweets are OK. Skip the rest.

This was our default place to go to when there were no other open places within Reston/Herndon, but the last time we went we were pleasantly surprised with the quicker service, the better food, less wait time, and very friendly service. The slaw is good and the line is making an overall effort toward fresher food. Good for them! The menu has more choices that are most appreciated.

Poor service and mediocre food makes Silver Diner a destination to skip. Weekday breakfast service got my kid's order wrong then tried to charge me for it twice. And it took nearly an hour and a half. There are a dozen better breakfast choices in the Reston/Town Center area.

Kitschy, great staff, clean ,food is okay, prices are HIGH for quality of food .Breakfast w coffee /juicem should not cost upwards to 10-15 per person !Thats the price of a casual restaraunt -chilis, tgi fridays, applebees etc,Breakfast sho Staff greets you quickly and seats you promptly.I came here after shopping at Trader Joes .Varied crowd, alot of retirees and people reading a book or newspaper for long times. .I have eaten here 3 times. Each time I have the same opinion.Nice effort good food ,but not great.Either very loud or very quiet too quiet like you worry if you drop your spoon.I prefer same decibel music,Jukebox is nice but if noone puts money in it put in on freeplay or something so its not loud then silent My servers are always hard working prompt efficient and friendly which is a plus if you have kids eating w u. order you feed them fast and tend to needs of hungry impatient toddler. I ordered the hollandaise sauce crabcake eggs benedict which is hard to pull off anywhere. sounded so good but really just ok.I also had homefries, toast and juice, coffee, some type of meat I gave my son.Just okay but a for effort!Another time I had a sandwiwch another time I had eggs.Maybe get a chef reinvent some dishes be great .Idea is great its a beautiful place,They need to make it hopping ala Grease diner style .My sons chicken fingers were way too crunchy and the potatoes are always off tasting kind of greasy and seasoning weird. Not sure if its recipe or cooking,Last time I came here in march 2009 I had to come get a waitress to serve me as I sat a long time with noone taking my order.Howver the crabcake benedict and grits that day were rocking!

Silver Diner is an adequate choice if your standards are low. Friday night, drunk, munchies? Great choice. Got kids and don't want to worry about shutting them up for just one dinner out? This is the place. The food is decent, but unimaginative. And the things that do seem unique are just played-out examples of "hot" and "now" food trends that will be gone as quickly as they came. I have a firm belief that diners should be 24 hours, 7 days a week. Based on that belief, however, Silver Diner is actually not a diner at all, but an establishment begging for you to believe that it is. Open 24 hours, only on the weekends...just doesn't cut it.

A diner is a diner, and while not a gold medal establishment, it does give you fairly decent greasy spoon nosh ! I do like hitting it every now and then for the club sandwich, ham, turkey, cheese, and bacon, ummm umm umm meaty-licious. This evening I had a craving for coffee & pie, while the apple pie is ok at $4.50, + 90c for ice-cream, it felt that the apples weren't fully baked still a little rigid. But ok for it's price, however the coffee sucks, it's like the free coffee you get at work, you all know, the stuff that's been sitting in the peculator for 2 days, so strong you can stand a spoon upright in it. Just a bit more of a liquid consistency than molasses. However 2 sachets of sugar and cream makes it drinkable.

i love the silver diner...it's easy and predictable. a notch above fast food, on par with most other chains. the environment is better than your run of the mill slop factory (tgif, olive garden, chilis). the breakfast is a-ok, and makes for a perfect pre-work meeting place. i recently had lunch there (twice, actually) and the new menu is pretty good. i tried the bison sliders which were not very exciting. on a following visit i built my own burger w/ jalepenos, bacon and a fried egg...was pretty awesome. not five guys awesome, but a good burger for a diner. all in all, it beats the crap out of Wendy's and is a nice change of pace from the other chains. in this area, for breakfast, it's about as good as it gets...any other major metro area is littered with true diners and that statement doesn't apply, but we all know that the DC 'burbs are severely lacking in ma and pop joints.

I have only visited this diner twice, but both occasions were excellent. Both times I had breakfast and ordered the Pecan & Sweet Potato Pancakes, which I ordered as a sort of experiment, and ended up really enjoying (clearly enough to order a second time). Everyone else in my party enjoyed the meals they ordered as well. The wait staff was friendly and prompt. The booths were clean. The parking was ample. The next time I am in town I plan to stop here for another round of pancakes.

I had a lot of breakfasts here last weekend, and they were all satisfying, if greasy. Veggie omelets, veggie griddles ... and I noticed (but didn't sample) that they had veggie sausage on the menu! That gives me hope for the future. It was decent, nice servers, quick service, huge coffee cups, but it wasn't the greatest food ever. But hey, breakfast is breakfast, and a hostess with glitter hairspray and a southern accent certainly isn't something *I* see everyday.

I gave this place three stars because it is open late and has saved me from dying of hunger multiple times. The food is not very good, but is one of the only places serving after 11 pm. I am a night person and sometimes have trouble getting out as early as Reston requires for dinner. Play the "guess which country the wait staff is from game" and choose 50's hits from the little table top jukebox. The summer fruit salad is good, but too sweet. Breakfast food is your best bet.
