I enjoyed this bar during a one week stay in Norfolk, that I went again the next night. They have 44+ taps of varying types of craft beers from all over the US. And they usually rotate the menu from time to time. Came in on a random Monday and Tuesday night and both nights weren't packed with a lot of people. Tuesday nights is trivia night and they still had lots of seating available. Trivia night was pretty fun. Me and my buddy won trivia night and we received $25. Service is pretty cool here. People were super friendly.

I came here with some friends for Trivia Night. It was hot day and it was not much cooler inside. Our table was sticky and one us had to find a rag to wipe it down after asking a few times. It was still sticky. We were here early and while the deck was busy, inside it was definitely not. Our server kept forgetting to bring us things and got orders wrong. I'm still not sure if my vegetarian dish was actually the vegetarian version. All of this was before trivia even started. The person who brought us our food straightened everything out, not our actual server! We had trouble receiving refills and my drinks had way more ice than I've ever seen put in a glass with vodka and cranberry juice. I was really hoping to add this to my list of places to go when I don't want to eat meat, but that's so not happening with the sticky table and bad service.

I've done my fair share of bar hopping around Ghent, and have to say that Taphouse is just average. Food: Honestly the only thing I've actually tried on the food menu is the tater tots with sriracha ketchup. Its pretty good, especially after downing a few. Beer: Its an okay draft list. Its typical, with occasionally a few surprises. Honestly, I'm usually there when its Monday...2.50 drafts under $5..its okay but honestly with so many bars in Ghent, its not the best.

I came in with a bunch of friends on a weekday, they host a trivia night which was a lot of fun. The server got around to all of us and never wrote down a single order, but he was 100% right on everything. Beer was great. My big complaint about this place only had to do with the food. I expected this to be a bar where the food was going to fill you up. I looked at the menu and I saw a section called Big Plates. I ordered a sausage meal with potatoes which cost about $11, more than other items in different sections. I thought I was secure, but the plate comes out. It had 5 slices of sausage and small pile of cubed potatoes. If I was just admiring the look of the plate, I would have been satisfied. I was actually immediately disappointed when I noticed I had the smallest meal at the table when I was paying more than them. I understand that the sausage might be more expensive than a hamburger, but they shouldn't put it under a section called Big Plates. I was hungry the rest of the night when I finished my meal. Having well dressed plates at a bar that does trivia nights does not go together.

Walking in, I was slightly unsure because the restaurant was completely, I mean completely dead! Never the less, we ordered mimosas and bloody Mary's and ordered our food. When our food came, let's talk about the fact that it even looked incredible. I had the "shrimp and grits" and it was AHHHHMAZING. Then, to top it off, the head chef came out, introduced himself and took pride in his food! He KNEW that his food was incredible and I honestly felt like if I didn't like it, he would go back and make adjustments and made sure not to leave me unsatisfied before I left. I was THOROUGHLY impressed and very confused as to why the restaurant was still empty when I left! Come here for a great brunch! You will not be disappointed!!

Ok so the atmosphere here isn't my typical cup of tea, but the food and service was great! The new executive chef came out and introduced himself to us and made sure that the food was nothing less that spectacular! I had the brunch special which was a spinach and mushroom quick topped with a perfectly crafted creamy hollandaise sauce. It was simply incredible! I would definitely come back to eat anything this new chef creates! Great job!

This past Saturday my husband and myself decided to go to the Tap House to check out the beer menu that everyone raves about. We pull up to the restaurant and immediately it was not what we were expecting. From the pictures of other reviewers we thought it would have been classier. There was 5 people sitting at one of the tables outside in which when we walked in the restaurant one of the 5 people sitting outside was the bartender/waiter. The beer list was extensive but the food menu was horrible. This place reminded me of one of the restaurants on The Bar Rescue before the rescue. We left due to we were looking for a place for dinner and a little fancier. We would return to try some of the beers but I would not eat anything from this place and we would be wearing flip flops and shorts if we returned.

I really do like coming to this place, especially for trivia on Tuesday evenings but so far my experiences have been pretty mediocre. Here's a sum up of last night.... -Got the wrong beer for my first order - ordered a Smartmouth Rule G and got an Alter Ego instead because my server failed to tell me they were out of Rule G. If you've ever had these beers they are WAY different - (IPA vs. Saison). -Said beer had a huge black chunk of something gross floating at the bottom of the glass and some other grass or something in it. I was sitting inside.... I hate returning beers and I normally would just ignore it but this was too big a chunk to ignore so I took it back. -Table was "shedding" old plywood all over our clothes because the table was falling apart. Gross. -Ordered the buffalo chicken wrap - it was almost impossible to try to eat because they didn't wrap it at all. That and it was too spicy. WAY too spicy. I don't want you to think I'm a wimp either. I LOVE spice but this was intolerable. Yes eyes watering intolerable. - Our bill comes out written on sticky notes, last night we were charged correctly but the time before our server couldn't add and over charged us. Either way, how about a receipt? I'm writing all this because they should get an honest review and a chance to fix some things. Some would be really easy to fix. But until then, check to see if your sticky note tabs are added correctly. But love trivia so I'll probably be back next week....

The only reason I gave it 2 stars instead of a 1 is because of the beer list, which is surprisingly good with some rare beers on tap. Besides that, this place isn't sure if it's a live music venue, bar, or restaurant, but it's definitely sure that cleaning supplies aren't needed. As we drank our first beer, the fella had a straight vie into the kitchen where he saw our waiter stick his ungloved hands into a vat of fries and start munching. The setup is weird, and we actually joked (but seriously) about not drinking the water there. We had planned on having dinner, but we paid after one drink and quickly got the heck outta Dodge.

Any place that offer lindemanns raspberry lambic on tap deserves 5 stars. But minus one star for having a "bring your own heater" day on a freezing Sunday night. We ended up playing a few games of pool and playing some cool songs on the jukebox in the freezer of game room of the place. A big group was playing Jenga in the corner of the warmer room. I smiled to myself when I heard the clash of blocks behind me and for some reason, I didn't have to turn around to see the mess it made - I could just picture it in my head. While at the bar, I felt bad for 2 things: the girl next to me who demanded that she have alcohol and that she could down a whole bottle of everclear. Apparently she was already a couple of drinks in because I saw the sleezy fat bearded guy next to me get fresh with her and she allowed it. I also felt bad for the bartender who took offense when one of my coworkers asked about a sign next to the cash register that says "Dee's Nuts." It was an innocent question really.

Monica is an awesome bartender! She taught me how to drink craft beer. I have an emotional bias to this place, because of the beer selection and hospitality shown by the staff.

  • Shawn H.

Some of the best hamburgers in Hampton Roads. I would give 5 stars but with the construction across the street the outhouse is not a viable option for lunch and the construction limits parking. It will be a 5 star place again. The inside appears divey but the food can't be beat. The beer menu is impressive. The only place that beats this beer menu is the Bier Gardten in Portsmouth. The service is top-notch and very friendly.

  • Mark B.

5 stars for the beer selection. Many local, American and world wide beers available. I'd recommend supporting local micro breweries and going with the Virginia Sampler. 2.5 stars for food. Hit or miss. Crab cakes and tots are great! Avoid the Nachos. For the price you would expect better. The cheese taste like it came from a can. 1.5 stars for the time it took to get our food. Not impressed.

This is the Cheers of Ghent. I love coming here because I know everyone and the menu is great and the music is always on point. It feels more like a clubhouse than a place of business and that is really hard to find anywhere else these days.

  • Isabel K.

Hipster-emo central. If you are into that, then you'd probably enjoy the scene here. Other than feeling a little out of place, the food was good. I got the fish tacos which was really tasty and HUGE! Beer wasn't as cold as we wanted but that's okay. Our waiter was really attentive. We never had to wait for him to come back!

I am just shocked that this place has a high average. We came here on a weeknight and had just an awful experience. It would take a lot for me to come back here. It was around 8 when we came in. It was a Thursday, so there wasn't a lot of action. The server told us to sit anywhere. After a little while she came and brought us the menus. She took our drink orders and then it took a long time and finally we had our non alcoholic drinks. By this time we were ready to order, she needed to get a pen no big deal. Except then it took her another 5 minutes to come back. Keep in mind it was a rainy weekday, this place was empty. When she took our order we ordered an appetizer and then our meals. The time between getting our food and placing our order was reasonable, except our appetizer came out ten minutes after we got our food. We only got our beer (bottles) just a few minutes before getting our food. The timing was just wrong in every way possible. The food was just so so. Nothing to brag about. It (should) go without saying that the beer selection is good. Maybe I would come back to catch a band and drink a beer, but for a fun dinner and drinks with friends or a date? Never again.

Cool spot for a variety of beers. There is live music I guess on Saturdays. Didn't eat. Beer needs to be colder. Bar tender was helpful and knowledgable. Pool table and juxbox in back alone with 2 arcade games.

Man.. I had high hopes for this place. The atmosphere is nice, similar to that of a dive bar. Lots of beer on tap but I didn't come here particularly for that; I came to eat. The food was real subpar; there was little meat in the wings we ordered and they were overly crunchy. Oh wait, they weren't even wings, they were strips because they ran out of wings.. OK. My friend wanted to order spinach artichoke dip but was told they were out of the pita they serve it with. Well.. OK. I went to use the restroom only to find throw up in one of the toilets. Gross! But they serve alcohol here soo.... OK Service was horrible. I think it was this guys first time as a waiter. He didn't really seem like he knew anything about being a server, when to refill, when to come back and check up, when to take our order. Awkward is probably the best way to describe him. Again.. It's probably his first time so.... OK. This is by far the longest review I've given because of my disappointment in this place. Unless you are coming in to drink, don't.

Went there for an early dinner, the burgers are amazing and I really like all the different types of beers there are to choose from! Made things fun .. Would definitely go again

Came here on Tuesday for a comedy open-mic. Requirement for working at Tap House: be a generally unpleasant girl with a half shaved head. Service was mehhhh, bartenders were not very inviting or nice. Probably won't be back. Beer selection was mediocre.

    (2)
  • Ashlea L.

The Tap House is great for live music & a great selection of beers in Ghent. I would give them 5 stars just for having Dutchess available for my drinking pleasure. I've always had a good time there, but have never sampled any of the food. It's more a sipping spot for me. The bathrooms are probably one of the nastiest that I've been in. Parking can be a problem when it's busy & there is usually a cover. Overall I enjoy going to hear music there.

    (3)
  • Amanda R.

Whoever the bartender was working today has a severe case of Resting Bitch Face & the Grinder gave me stomach cramps. My friends being there was the only thing I really enjoyed. They like the beer! Only for that reason I added 2more stars to the original one star this place barely earned.

    (3)
  • Edward H.

Great beer selection at good prices. The food is pretty good but the service was so so. The place was virtually empty and it took 45 minutes to get buffalo chicken wrap and a cheeseburger. The oh so hip bartender was more concerned about talking about Amazon Prime and trying to get more "diversity" into the bar. I had to ask him several times for a box, in the process of he ran boxes to other patrons. If youre coming in to drink you will be better off.

    (3)
  • Robyn G.

This place used to be packed every weekend night. I was in here Friday and there were probably about 20 people max. Maybe the crowds stopped coming because the bathrooms still smell like outhouses and the mouse cruising around the barroom floor... I probably won't be back.

Came here on a Saturday afternoon, there were only a handful of patrons. I was warned ahead of time about the bathroom conditions, so we planned for a beer and quick bite to eat so I wouldn't have to subject myself to the ladies room. We were greeted immediately, beers were delivered within a couple minutes and I was only halfway through my beer before the food showed up. Score! Excellent selection of beer, service was good, food tasted great...unfortunately I was sick within an hour. :-( I will be back, but it will only be for a beer.

Ghent, my home away from home. When I am back in 757, the call of Colley and its sidestreets is too much to ignore. This was one of those nights. Tap House was stop number 2. This is the sort of place that doesn't really mind if you sit in your parked car out front and blast a demo mix of a soon to be released CD. It was important because my car has two working speakers, one for the left and one for the right. Stereo pretty much requires that this minimum be met. Anyway, back to the Tap House. It has all of the qualities of Dive Bar goodness and will therefor make my list. Great local vibe, good prices, decent beer selection (especially if this is NOT the first stop of the night....). There was also a local band playing here tonight! Couple that with some kicking outside seating and you have a big win in Ghent.

I've been actively on the prowl looking for a good place that serves or offers a good selection of craft/microbrews in Hampton Roads and the general feel is that the local area isn't quite up to speed on the craft-beer boom. So far this place has been pretty good. So upon walking in I decided to Live Dangerously, by ordering their strongest and most expensive 12oz. bottle right off the bat. "Dogfish Head World Wide Stout" at 18%ABV and $16 a pop. AMAZING beer, good thing I had just one as any more would've put me over the top.LoL. They do have a fairly nice selection of both draft and bottles, which is a good thing coming from a Hop-head! **Overall I will defiantly be coming back. The only bad things are they need dress up the place; remove the arcade games (its not the 80's)and bathrooms could look nicer. I don't exactly like nats/flies buzzing all over when I'm crapping if you know what I mean. Also beware of the location as Ghent is a rough part of town. Cheers!

I have driven past this place many, many times over the years that I've lived in the area. Finally went there for dinner last night to try something different. It does have an impressive selection of beers and it does have a dive atmosphere so it would be a good place to drink. Lot of patrons there doing just that and some of them were a bit loud. But, hey, the atmosphere does lend itself to that so there's no complaint -- only fair notice to the readers. The food and the service were only okay. My wife went first and ordered a Reuben sandwich with fries. I ordered a Cuban with tater tots. The waiter took notes instead of memorizing our orders. When the meals were delivered, they both came with tater tots. The waiter offered to get fries for my wife. However, we waited quite a while for the meals (and they weren't busy -- another fair notice) so she opted to stay with what she had. The Reuben was good. The Cuban was okay -- very small. The tater tots were barely warm. We won't be going back. Too many other places in the area that we like much better. This isn't to say that it isn't good for a younger crowd who enjoys that type atmosphere.

This place is great! They have a couple creative vegan options in addition to their regular carnivorous menu.. Also great drink specials (2.50 Virginia beers every day 4 to 7 plus more) and a couple pool tables in the back! Service is always above and beyond. My favorite is its a place where myself (vegetarian) and my significant other (meat eater) can both agree on! Highly recommended!

    (5)
  • Kristin W.

The atmosphere is great - dark & divey, pool tables, good music, decent beer list...but would definitely be better if they could get some heat. Also, the draft beer would taste better if they'd clean their tap lines for once.

Don't let looks fool you... The food was great! I had the mussels... Which were in an amazing broth... Even the kids loved them! Kids had BBQ wings. Husband has the po boy sandwich and we all shared the best tasting spinach dip I've ever had... Had to be homemade! No complaints here. Worth trying out! BTW the pear cider was a great choice too!

I spend more time at the Tap House than maybe I'd like to admit to myself.... But, you see, it's in between the gym and my commute route. And sometimes, even when I really do have the best of intentions, everyone ELSE in the known universe has decided that a post-work workout is just the thing, and while circling the parking lot of my gym is ONE way to wait out the commute traffic...a perhaps BETTER way is to give up and get a beer (or two....) It's a hard place not to like -- excellent beer selection, decent prices. I even came in one post-work evening and found it was $2.50 beer night! $2.50 for any beer that was usually $5 or less! That means I HAVE to have at LEAST two beers right? (Seriously -- isn't that how it works?) I haven't had the food yet, but it looks decent. Honestly, though, I just like it as a great beer bar (though they do have a full bar, for the not-so-beer inclined, you weirdos.) I've been there on a Friday night when there was a good crowd and a cool local post-rock band that I dug. $5 is a good cover for a local band (and as a musician myself, I'm all too happy to support local talent, as long as they don't suck.) Pool tables and other bar games are in the back for those of you who need to like, do stuff while you drink. I think the best places to hang in the place are at the bar (where I have met many a nice fellow post-work drinker and chatted up the bartender, Nick, who is such good friends with me at this point that he let me read his poetry off his iPhone), and the little windowed enclave of small tables right by the bar. My only beef with the place is that the barstools are kind of low for the bar. They aren't as comically out of sync as the barstools at the Hampton Tap House's bar, but they still make me feel a little bit like I'm a kid sitting at the grown up table for the first time without a booster seat -- and I'm 5'6"! But they do have plenty of hooks under the bar, which you would think would be de rigueur for bars at this point, but you would be surprised, so at least there's that.

The beer has always been great, with a selection damn near impossible to beat. I've been drinking here for ages. That being said I ate here for the first time tonight. I ordered the nachos. I can only assume they charge $9 for these because there is a person on staff who must be paid who's only job is to run to 7-11 to get nachos and being them back. Sysco surplus nacho cheese-like product drowning tortillas, lettuce even Viagra couldn't de-limp, a puddle of sour cream, relatively unobtrusive black beans, and apparently someone in the kitchen accidentally spilled a couple old jalapenos on the plate. I'm partially sad because everyone else's food looked pretty good, and I had the misfortune of being served a tex-mex abortion. Why? Why did this happen to me? Was I an asshole in a past life? Am I still? Please, please tap house, I know you have real cheese around, why not use it? No one should have to live through this. That being said, I was hungry, I ate them. I'm filled with regret. And shitty cheese-product.

I'm not a fan of this place. I felt awkward here. Which doesn't happen often. This place defines 'ghent'. The bands are just not my cup of tea. however there is a bartender there that is 5 stars.... Christie!! shes super knowledgable about there beer and an awesome bartender. This place is just a local dive bar. I just don't feel welcomed really when I have been here. Bands here are suuuppperrrr loud and the couple times I have been here they are little weird.

In my 2-month experience of this part of VA, I only stumbled upon a few place that have a good variety of taps (15+ here). I guess it's apparent in the name of this joint that there will be lots of yummy liquids. I remember having the Chesapeake crab burger that was pretty good. The fries with the special ketchup was equally awesome. For some reason I wasn't expecting the food to be good here but my appetite was very much satisfied. If you're looking for good beer/food somewhere that's similar to the nearby Public House, then Tap House is this place for you.

So, beer was cold, outside seating was really nice. Great ambiance outside and would come back all day long for a cold beer. Didn't try the food. Why you ask??? The restaurant was filthy. Disgustingly filthy. And we are not neat niks by any account. Bathrooms were terrible, windows terrible (maybe cleaned last during the Reagan administration).....overall just lacked the clean crisp environment you want in a 4 or 5 star experience. The place has HUGE potential and could be a home run! I mean grand slam home run if done right. Simple things like clean bathrooms, clean windows, menus without food stains crusted on them and an overall tight looking restaurant go a long way.

A great place for lunch or dinner, with several amazing beer options, a good food selection, and fun atmosphere. It can get noisy, but all-in-all, not bad. It can be a challenge to seat a large group here, so don't go with more than 6 or 7 of your BFFs. Vegan and vegetarian options available.

I really don't like rating a bar or restaurant without eating there first. However, having already eaten lunch earlier, we rode over to Tap House with the intention of checking out their beer selections. Mission accomplished! Plenty of great choices on tap and I decided on a Left Hand Milk Stout while my lady went with one of her favorites, Founder's Dirty Bastard. Based on draft selections, I'm going with 4 stars "drink rating." Limited bias, I know. Based on the very open structure of the interior, we were trying to figure out what this place was before the Tap House opened here. Not sure, but there were plenty of tables, both inside and out on the deck, although there were the few people there during our visit. Granted, it was mid-afternoon on a Sunday, not the most lively time of the week, but at least we had personal service from the bartender. We could easily see ourselves staying here for more than one drink, but we were behaving this day. Instead, we played some Addam's Family pinball in the game room and jumped back on our bikes, on to our next stop.

This place was filthy. The bathrooms were disgusting, although I've seen worse. The burger I ordered was not well done and I could still see pink in it. It was very average and not worth $10! The beer selection was great but I won't go back there again because there's nothing special about this place.

Unexpected deliciousness Pulling up to the Taphouse may lead to a slight reluctance to enter the seemingly dive-ish college bar image. You are in for a treat though. A fantastic beer menu that has the normal array of one off and hard to find micro brews but also a great European (read German) selection. That's just the start. The crab/jalapeño/garlic dip with Pita bread was was neither the heavy grease gut bomb and not the bland chunky cream sauce I've experienced elsewhere. It has the perfect mix of zest and comfort. Following that I had the Baja tacos. Fresh flounder, cabbage, jalapeños and grilled tortillas. Delicious, fresh and spiced just right. Hats off to whoever created this menu. I highly recommend this hidden beer filled gem.

Came here with friends for beer and food on a Saturday night. Food was good. Ordered burger and so did everyone at my table. We ordered different beers which came fast and slow. One of our friends ordered directly at the bar. He got all his drinks faster than us which is expected. You would think for a Saturday there would be more than one waitress. While drinking we noticed.....they don't split checks. We're all older so we hoped that was just a stipulation for the college folks. We tab out and our waitress expresses...they do things by hand and can't split checks.....EXCUSE ME. So we're over here trying to figure out tax..because this is the day and age of plastic. No cash in our wallets. We undershoot and just ask her the tax to split....and she doesn't know and claims it will take longer to check us out... Again.....why are you doing this by hand?? This place gets enough business to buy one by now. Great food but extremely TOO much trouble to pay, I could have gone somewhere else. And trying to explain what we mean by split the tax over the live and loud band is almost impossible. Thirty minutes later we're sitting here trying to figure it out because she still obviously doesn't know. She then brings back a receipt "split" but everyone's items were mixed up. I had two drinks she charged me three. We give up and one of the group just pays the damn $10 tax I'm never coming here again.just because you're a local business doesn't mean you have to skimp out on equipment. Red Dogs anyone?

My friend and I headed out here since we haven't set foot in it for months, but for my friend, it has been years. Of course on a Sunday evening, it was slow, but the we liked the perk of half price off Virginia beers. I had the available pumpkin brew Alewerks on tap and so did my friend. There are plenty of beers on tap, so my review is limited to the quality, selection and supply of available beers. I'm not rating the food. As for the facility, it can use some updates, including a bigger or longer bar. However, I can say that it feels pretty cozy in there.

Nice place for some drinks after work. Plenty of brews to choose from, and the menu looked decent. Bathrooms weren't all that clean at the time (and it was pretty dead), so maybe their "A" team wasn't on the clock yet. Wouldn't be opposed to returning, though I'm not into beer much.

The food was good, awesome crab dip and the Nachos made for a good filler. We showed up with a group of 20 and the service was on point. The group was happy and the beer was cold... I would recommend the TAP House.

Calling out Xerxes on this one. You don't come to a place like the Taphouse and then complain that there's no "factory" beer. As already mentioned by another local the Taphouse is an institution in Hampton Roads. While you may not like the fact that you have to pay a cover when they have a band or that the beer's aren't Miller Lite, Budweiser and Coors you may want to consider sticking to the ocean front if your level of culture is what you're used to seeing on 'The Block" in Va Beach.

Not often will I give a not so good, or bad, review, but I was rather displeased with my experience last night at the Tap House Grill at Ghent. My girlfriend and I arrived at the restaurant just shy of 9pm and it was quite obvious a band would be performing later that evening. Knowing this I immediately looked for a seat as far from the stage as possible with the hopes of carrying a conversation without having to scream at the top of my lungs. My assumption is that the people there were regulars and overall were having a good time. Me on the other hand... - It was rather cold inside the restaurant and the fans were running so I never took off my jacket. Others in the restaurant, too, sat around wearing their jackets. I just never felt comfortable to relax and enjoy the beer in front of me. - Our friends arrived after 9pm and they were charged $5 per person just to get into the restaurant. If I was going there for dinner and was told I had to pay $5 just to get through the door...pff, off to next place. Must be a regular thing there I suppose. - When the band started playing it was difficult to talk to the person next to me let alone others in my group who were only three feet away. Nothing irritates me more than having to yell or be yelled at just to have a conversation. I get that the place, so I hear, is one of a music/band venue, so perhaps I should have expected this, We were all cold, my friends weren't thrilled about the $5 cover and it was awkward sitting there pretending to listen to others talk so we asked to settle our bills so we can move on to a more comfortable hangout for the evening. To top things off our waitress gave us one ticket and outlined the three different groups in our party as A, B and C. Okay, so I wasn't keen on the idea of having to pass cash around and a check card and having to explain who was paying with what. When the waitress got confused over everything I pretty much lost it --- I was over the place and was ready to go. Once you get to know me you will find that I stick to just a few beers: Bud Light, Michelob Ultra, and Coors Light. Trying different beers isn't my thing. For others who aren't like me I will tell you this, the Tap House Grill has an extensive beer list and if you are a beer connoisseur this is a place that you should consider visiting. Give it a shot if you so choose to. As for me, let's just say that next time I'll buy a six pack and call it a Red Box night.

Very relaxing atmosphere and huge draft beer selection! Wait staff is friendly and interesting but table service isn't terribly good. The hummus was way too salty in my opinion. Although, I have only dined from the late night menu! Great place to drink with your friends, but not so great to grab a quick bite.

My wife and I stopped by this place over the weekend. We were pleasantly surprised by the friendly service and stellar tap list. The bartender was very helpful with different draft selections for both of us and even paired them with our food. If you stop by try the cuban. It was amazing.

Fun place with friends. Patio has nice wooden benches for people like me who like to take up a lot of space. Too bad no heaters the night I went...it's getting a little nippy! Props to the server who first asked if wanted to order food or just hang out for awhile. Love, love servers with this attitude! I took away a star because of the mediocre food. Personally, I've never really had bad fish and chips until tonight. The fish was overly fried and the tartar sauce had too much of a mayo consistency (I like it chunky) and not much flavor. Awful cole slaw. Plus, I don't like how they line a square of wax paper on your plate...as if I need to be reminded that I'm eating nothing but grease. Pool tables were awesome. Only one dolla!

Come here for beer and music, but not for the food. Tap House is a local favorite. They have a ton of beer on tap, and a long list of bottles as well. The beer is priced good and the service at the tables is friendly and consistently good. They also have local music many days of the week. The bar is kind of divey, and they have a nice patio. I honestly like the inside better though; there isn't much to look at across 21st st on that side of Colley and you don't have to smell the smoke. I personally haven't enjoyed the food very much anytime I've eaten there, which honestly hasn't been that often. Last time I went, I ended up eating 1/4 of my meal and filled up on pizza at Cogan's later in the night.

Nice small neighborhood bar with a GREAT beer selection. Snacks are really good and beer is even better. Good service......

Highly recommend this place! Holy crap, how have I not reviewed Tap House yet? This place is fantastic. They have one of the better tap selections in the Norfolk area. They carry enough variety to keep your taste buds enticed all evening (or at least until they stop functioning). I have not tried their food (or at least don't remember trying their food), so I can't give it a 5 star review based on principle--but I'll be sure to get something next time I go here so I can solidify this review. Oh, and be sure to come here one one of the nights they have a live band playing. It's a blast.

My friend and I came here to see a band we like. Loved the atmosphere. It was nice and small, and the decor was great. The bar had an extensive selection of beers, which was great. The beer and the food were excellent. I had a gingerbread ale and a blackberry peach cider and loved both of them. For food, I had the crabcake sandwich, which was delicious. I look forward to my next visit!

Have not been here for a while but I will say that these guys do burgers right. They have many great beers on tap also. I bet the food is always good here. Most have the burger. It is a nice drinking spot also.

I was introduced recently to the Tap House as a way more affordable alternative the the Birch for a good beer selection (not to say that I don't love the birch). The selection of beer reflects that someone decided to choose quality over quantity. They don't have the largest selection of beer in Ghent, but it is full of GOOD choices that are very well priced. As far as food goes, it's a little pricier than some of the competition in the area, but everything I've had has been amazing!

I'm a little biased towards Tap House because it's where my other half and I had our first date, but there's a reason I had chosen it then as I do now. Tap House Grill at Ghent is just simply kick ass. It could be considered a dive bar, but one distinctly suited to the neighborhood's tastes. There is a sizeable outdoor patio that is begging to be enjoyed on balmy summer nights and the atmosphere is effortless grit with a coat of black and red paint. The beer menu is far from puny and actually may weigh more than its food counterpart. The waiters are clever and can easily match you with the perfect beer, a rare find. The menu is chock full of choices that pair perfectly with beer such as pizza and burgers. There are a heavy handful of vegan options, the most unusual being the BLT wrap. All of this combined with amazing music, on some nights live, is just the perfect five star storm.

Not at all impressed with the bartender service on my first visit. Disregarded for ten minutes in a moderately empty venue with the bartender looking for busywork and possibly having a bad day. Should not have to deal with that. Left after giving it ten minutes of a chance. Will go back . . . eventually.

If there's one thing that's essential for a good neighborhood to be successful, it is a great restaurant, with cooperation and support of every server who plays a part in its business. This is the only way to win people over to a new place and to motivate them to come back.

To put it simply, my new home. After moving here I was lost in a sea of bars, trying to find my home, and now I have found it. Pabst on tap for 2.50, I'm not a hipster just very dutch, and mixed drinks in a pint glass. Patio area outside to smoke, and I don't seem awkward going by myself. Nice old people to talk to, and food! Sure there are tons of beer, but this place is more than that. It feels like my old california bar, which I spent 2 years living in. I heart you taphouse, as much as a bu bu pig hearts nom. Noms.

i'll echo many of the same sentiments already expressed here: excellent and thoughtful beer selection - i was happily surprised when i found a couple gems i had not seen in LA in the previous 4 years. the food was standard fare, a decent turkey and bacon wrap that's nothing to write home about, but will get the job done when you get the munchies after your third beer. staff was friendly and helpful. will have to return to sample more of their selection. will update as appropriate.

Taphouse is one of those Ghent places that I want to like, so I keep going back, only to be disappointed. The beer: The selection is fan-freaking-tastic, if overpriced. That's the redeeming quality, and the only thing to go there for. It's what saved this from being a one-star review. The entertainment: Taphouse really wants to be a music venue. Despite its small size and horrible acoustics, it keeps hosting bands. Some of these bands may be talented, but you'd never know it. Everything sounds bad here. The food: On a good day, it's meh. On a bad day, it's awful. First rule: Do not order from the late-night menu. My boyfriend and I have on a couple of occasions and are always dismayed. The chickette is dry and flavorless, if you go the vegetarian route. Even the tomato-basil melt lacks flavor, and that's hard to do if you use the right ingredients. I recently ordered the crab dip there. It's $10 and an impossibly small portion, especially compared to other, better versions at nearby restaurants (think Shucks, for example.) The real insult, though, is that the late-night version doesn't come with house grilled garlic bread, as indicated on the menu. Instead, you get those artificially colored, overly salty round tortilla chips, the kind that come with stadium nachos. Yuck. The brunch: Around here, everyone and their mother offers a brunch and drink specials Sunday mornings. This is among the lesser options. They advertise a bloody mary special for a buck, and that is a great deal; however, the drink is pretty watery. For $2.5, you can go down the way to Tortilla West and have an am.az.ing Bloody bar instead. The food is just OK. The french toast was pretty good, but I was told when I asked for recommendations that the kitchen doesn't like making it. That doesn't exactly make me wanna order it! The service: One star. The bartenders have never been friendly, in the years I've been going to Taphouse. They have that hipster, Ghent, removed, you're-lucky-to-be-here attitude. They'll tell you about the beer but only if you ask and ask and practically beg. Unfortunately this is the kind of place that really needs friendly and knowledgeable service to explain the extensive beer list. When I was unhappy with my crab dip, I told the bartender and was basically told "this is how it comes on the late night menu. Oh well for you." No substitutions offered, no apologies, nothing. Of note: After my most recent bad experience, I posted to the Taphouse's facebook page and was immediately chastised by people affiliated with the Taphouse. I was told that I should have told the man working the door, whom I know, and he'd have fixed my problem. As a customer, I'm not really sure why I should walk over to the door to tell someone working there and taking cover charges about my unhappiness. I told my sever (in this case: my bartender) and that should be good enough. I'm sure I will be back to Taphouse, for the beer mostly, and also because we just don't have that many choices in Ghent anymore. I can only hope it gets better with time.

It's aiight. The band playing that night was pretty blah, their music hovering between sounding good and just straight up NOISE. I don't like inhaling smoke, so I didn't appreciate how everybody and their mom was smoking. Then again, I'm coming from California, where an indoor-smoking ban is in place...totally biased there. ;) I really want to go back and try their food, not just the beer, and will do an updated review when that happens.

I really want to give this place two separate reviews and ratings. One for the food and one for the drinks. Since I can't do that I will just split the difference and give it 3 stars. We'll start with the good side, the drinks and the atmosphere. They had a very large selection of beer and it was really cheap. Generally around $4.5 for the good beers (Stone IPA and the like). The crappier beers were around $3 and I think less for PBR. I was trying to sample things I'd not seen anywhere else so I didn't go for the absolute cheapest beer. The bar is extremely divey. There's a pool table and other games off in one room. Open seating and the bar in another. The waiter was very attentive and when we went outside (a couple people in the group are smokers) he didn't have any problem moving our tab out there. They also seem to have a lot of live music on the weekends. There was a guy playing the guitar in a too small sailor outfit which looked like it was stolen from the Village People. If my experience was just limited to this I would definitely have given the place 4 stars.... However I was unfortunate enough to be hungry and want some dinner. I got the fish tacos. They were terrible. The fish was supposedly blacked but didn't look or taste like it had any seasoning on it. The rest of the taco consisted of shredded carrots and lettuce or cabbage with no sauce. So it was just a dry, flavorless taco. The tots weren't bad. They came with a sriracha ketchup that I really enjoyed but the rest of the group didn't. They thought it tasted too much like just sriracha. For the food I would give it 2 stars. To sum up, come for the drinks but make sure you've had something to eat first.

I would not come here again. It wasn't awful but there are better places to go (Cogans). The food was okay. We ordered the corned beef and cabbage which was alright, and the baguette style bread, which I thought was tasteless. Of course the beer selection was good. Can't complaint when they've got two types of Guinness to choose from. Ha. The service was good. Our waitress constantly checked up on us and made suggestions when we asked for random drinks. The place was empty.. Looked like a place only regular would come to. Pretty boring for St Pattys day night... Though I guess if I was looking for a great night, I could have gone to an Irish pub. Eh.

I'd give the food two stars and the beer selection four stars. Average it out, and you get three overall. I love beer, so when we moved to Norfolk I looked online to find a restaurant with a large selection of beer on tap. I was very excited to go, and was duly impressed by the beer list. However, the food was very disappointing. Now my wife won't go back, so I can't even explore all their beers. In sum, if you just want drinks, tap house is great. If you want food...not so much.

Not really sure how I feel about this place. Great beer selection, pretty good food. I would alomst say that the place reminds me of a gastropub but on more of a dive level.

Great selection of bar, but need to organize about the place. I'm going back for more beers. For beer lover and this is the place after dinner or even before the dinner. Give it a try.

So I discovered this on my beer quest in Norfolk. Yes, I said Norfolk...visiting family. So here's the run down... This establishment is called TAP HOUSE GRILL at Ghent. Now given to the likes of it's name bearing I would say it's known for it's extensive collection of beers. The grill part was added to let you know they serve food. Now in past reviews people have stated the food is meh. It could be the beer talking but I found the food pretty good for the price. We got the mussels & crab dip. Both dishes were delicious, the mussels had a plentiful amount of broth that still retained it's flavor. The crab dip had filled with real crab and just the right mix of cheese. As for the beers, they had a good selection and reasonable prices. Our waitress seemed versed in the local brews and gave us friendly advice for our decision making process. I didn't try the cocktails, nor quiz the bartender on duty....so I had to give it 3 stars. It wasn't crowded due to the pouring down rain, but it still seems like a humble establishment to hang out with friends and enjoy good beer.

(+) Beer, great choices (-) Cover at the door... who do they think they're kidding, this is Norfolk (-) Pipes backed up made the whole place smell like S@!t, literally (-) Musical performers were lacking (-) Crowd looked like a hillbilly convention meets diabetes convention meets hipster convention, maybe that's what the smell was....

I went to the Tap House on a Wednesday night, which could possibly explain my experience, or lack there of. I am unsure if the Tap House is currently undergoing renovations, however the evening that I visited it was freezing cold as one of the doors (which can not be used as an entrance) was half-way propped open with a piece of plywood. I would say the only thing they had going for them that particular night was "Happy Hour."

When I read Xeres review I just had to write my own. The fact that you come out and say you prefer "Bud Light, Michelob Ultra, and Coors Light." in a 1-star review on the Taphouse is just shameful. It's like reviewing Taco Bell when you don't like tacos. The Taphouse is an institution in Norfolk. Yes the table service sucks sometimes and the place can be loud and even a little grungy. Though it seems like every time I go in lately something is new or renovated. The burgers here are incredible, I swear they must have a charcoal grill out back. The tuna sandwich/wrap/burrito are great as well. The beer selection is extensive with mostly american micro brews and at reasonable prices (unlike some other beer bars in town). The menu also clearly states "Whats a Few Dollars Between Friends" or something along those lines. In my experience you can also just tell the waitress "$10 on this card and the rest on this card". Not really a big deal IMO.

You're not a hip Ghentile unless you frequent the Taphouse. I am not a hip Ghentile, but I do heart the Taphouse. It's just an unpretentious (maybe that contradicts the "hip" part, but whatever) dive-y bar and pub. Dark and dingey in that rock club kind of way. Pool tables and a jukebox in the back. Small stage in the other room. Outdoor patio to boot. And their food is pretty damn good for bar food. Lots and lots 'o bands play their. Great original, indie and local music schedule--blues, rockabilly, garage-y type stuff. And of course, it's called the Taphouse for a reason. They have many, many beers on tap. It's a total locals joint. If you want to feel like a local, it's Taphouse all the way.

I like it, I'm a fan. Friendly bartender pointed me to the [beer] specials of the day. Place was a bit warm, but not unbearable. The beers were also warm (not ice cold), at least all the ones I tried, and I tried at least 7 different ones. I'll definitely be back, hopefully beers will be colder.

This is definitely a place where the locals love to hang out. There is a cozy little outside sitting area that becomes very popular on warm, summer nights. They have tons of beers to choose from - lots of them are on tap. They also frequently have live music here. The service is good, the bartenders are very knowledgeable about the beers which is great since there are so many to choose from. I've had the food here a couple times and it's usually pretty good, but it's not out of this world spectacular. Go here for the beer, not the food. The seating inside is a little odd and can sometimes be a bit cramped. There is a backroom with pool tables and a couple of arcade games.

Break down of a typical Friday day out in Ghent: Taphouse for breakfast Cogan's for lunch possibility start drinking there because they also have a pretty good selection of beers. Go to Granby to meet up with friends at Kelly's. Go to the Wave Then back to the Taphouse to drink Black Velvets and slam Southern Comforts like if we never left high school. We would pretty much stay at the Taphouse till it closed. Then we would proceed to Tortilla West for Seafood nachos and more beer because they stop serving at 4 am or 3 I think. I always remember it being the last call last call for my friends and me. Great place and if you stop by try the hummus its outstanding.

If you are an IPA guy/gal and travelling around the Norfolk area, then this is the spot. Typical dark, gritty dive bar atmosphere. I had the Turkey Reuben which was excellent. IPA's on tap: St. George - India Pale Ale Avery - India Pale Ale Heavy Seas - Loose Cannon (Hop3 Ale) I had all three in order of hoppiness and that Loose Cannon definitely topped it all off. 5 stars for having the best IPA selection on tap in Norfolk.

This place is definitely cool, especially for Norfolk. Based on the reviews and the general description of the place, I was really excited to check it out. The reality of the Taphouse isn't as cool as the expectation, or at least my expectation. But it's still pretty cool. Seating is apparently every-man-for-himself, but even on a busy Friday night, we found a table. The menu is interesting, and most of the items look tasty. I had a chicken wrap which was alleged to be infused with mango and habanero. The chicken that actually appeared in my wrap could have been a microwaved Tyson chicken-finger. I detected neither mango nor habanero. The beer selection was pretty impressive as the name of the place would suggest, though most were not in fact on "tap". Service was good, as were the prices. The whole experience was just "okay", but I would definitely go back again for another try. The place is cool enough to warrant that.

Since we had an early-morning flight back to Chicago, we had to find somewhere to relax and enjoy a beverage or two (and to feed my growling tummy). Tap House Grill served us well! The beer selection covered two sides of a sheet; not only were there many delicious choices on tap, but there were quality bottles. Choices ranged from pale ales to Belgians to stouts - many options to appeal to different tastes. My favourite part of the beer list was the suggested recipes - mixes of beers to provide an even more interesting experience. They paired a dark chocolate stout (I can't recall the brewery, but it wasn't Young's) with Lindemans Framboise (the raspberry lambic) for a delightful dessert-y drink called "Chocolate Truffle" or something along those lines. I'm a big fan of dark beer, and this provided me with something a little different but still within my preferred taste. There were quite a few vegan and vegetarian options on the menu, including several faux meat sandwiches. The veggie chili (which my partner had) looked hearty and delicious. I had the vegan Rueben sandwich. It didn't quite taste like other faux Ruebens I've had. It was rather soggy from the sauerkraut and the sauce didn't resemble thousand-island dressing in my opinion. However, I am grateful that they accommodate veggie eating choices. While some restaurants mark lacto-ovo-vegetarian items, menu items marked with "V" here are vegan! That was very helpful to me. The atmosphere reminded me of an older bar - wood and metal accents. I wouldn't call it a dive bar though. Most of the patrons seemed to be in the younger crowd.

This is a nice place to hang with friends or catch a live band. A very hip feel and a very nice selection of draft beer. Living on the Peninsula however, I feel the food is better at the Hampton location. Everything my table ordered was a hair on the spicy side on the night I was there. All and all a very pleasurable evening.

When I used to live in Norfolk, my friends loved Tap House. My ex used to push this place on me for dinner all the time and I'd always put it off. When he finally asked me why I was never eager to go, I couldn't really give him much of an answer, but I'll try to do a better job with this review. The beer, for starters, is very good. Definitely a good place to sit and have a nice beer with some friends. Food is kind of so-so. They do have vegan and veg options, but everything I ate there was on the low side of acceptable. I used to get their BLT (or was it a club?) and the "mayo" that they used tasted pretty gritty and a little sour. The service is pretty crappy most of the time, but since this is such a laidback place I think they get away with it. A lot of people come for the music, and since they seem to let almost anybody come and play there, it can also be touch and go. I definitely saw one of their more amazing acts: Reverend Peyton's Big Damn Band. If you've never seen hillbilly/rockabilly music before, try and catch this group. Once you've heard "Your Cousin's On Cops!", you'll be a fan for life. My advice: come for the beer, stay for the show (sometimes), and eat the food if you must.

This is the best place to grab beer in Norfolk...sit out on the patio on a mild summer night or check out a band. They have a ever-changing selection of beers from around the world, with a focus on Belgians. The menu varies but is stocked with pub-grub and some surprisingly good burgers. My favorite is the Chesapeake...a good char-burger topped with a crabmeat-based dip. They also have a few unique dishes like the Hillbilly Eggrolls...ham,gruyere, and black-eyed peas.

Ah, the Taphouse, a Ghent tradition. There's no doubt that they keep the best and most diverse beer selection in Hampton Roads. The Tapper has been my go-to spot for about five years now, and it rarely gets old. The bartenders and staff are friendly and local, the patrons are chill, and it's just an all out easy place to hang out. I can speak very highly of the beer selection (hence, it being a Taphouse), but the food is a bit lacking. It's mostly bar food, and has grown even more so in the past few months. They've been saying that they are creating a new menu for awhile now, but for the time being, it's incredibly limited. The entertainment is usually a good time. They do a fantastic job of booking local and regional talent. It's one of the best local music venues in the area. Plus, they have the absolute best jukebox music selection that I have ever seen! If you get the opportunity to head back to the pool tables, check out the tunes. Fantastic. I've spent many a happy hour with friends and co-workers, or many late nights watching live music at this joint, and I love it. I'll miss it when I move to San Diego. :(

Great little dive bar with one hell of a beer selection. Music can be hit or miss, and it happened to be a miss when we came by, it was something between random noise and bad music. Can't go wrong with their beer selection though. Fair warning I'm no fan of smoke and man the moment you walk in it's just like those hazy bars you see from 80's pop culture. Also, I did not eat any food. I'll be sure to do it next time I'm in town and update the review. But again, great beer selection!

Go here and try something new. Seriously, with the variety of beers they've got on tap, it'd be a shame to sit there and drink nothing but the same stuff you buy by the case every weekend. Even if you're not big on drinking, the food is always delicious and creative. They've got amazing specials that you wouldn't expect unless you take the time to go inside and appreciate the place. As some have said, the music can be hit or miss. I'd say sit on the other side of the wall if you're eating so it's not blaring at you or anything. Outside seating isn't much of a view, but a great atmosphere and the only way to get fresh air if you're a non-smoker.

I used to go the The Tap House pretty regularly, but I haven't been in a year or so. Their selection of beers is, without a doubt, the best in Hampton Roads. Their beer list also changes very frequently, so it is worth it to go back again and again. You can't be a beer lover in Hampton Roads and NOT have been to The Tap House, I'll put it that way. The food is OK, typical bar fare. The atmosphere is.. LOUD! You never know who's going to be performing there. Sometimes it's awesome, sometimes it's awful, but it's always entertaining in one way or another. If you want to have a quiet conversation, however, this is not the place you want to go! There is a pool room, but I pretty much never go in it, so I can't comment on that. Overall, The Tap House is a great place to get a few drinks, especially if you're in the mood for something new.

This place is good for Norfolk. FOR NORFOLK. They charge a $5 cover every weekend, and I always regret paying it. They have a great beer selection.... but so does tortilla west, cogans, the birch bar, and MOST bars in ghent. I don't see why people like this place so much. The food is.... meh. I assumed the $5 cover would include turning the heat on. I guess I was wrong. I really wouldn't reccomend going here. Overrated.

My husband & I were driving around looking for a place to eat and have a drink at. We came across this place and thought it looked cool. It was a Friday night and there was a band setting up as we came in. WOW the beer selection is amazing any kind of beer you are looking for I am sure they have it. I had a awesome dark beer if I can recall it was a Taddy Porter.. Anywho we also ordered our food, menu not so many selections... The food was eh alright... not the greatest bar food I have had. The place got really busy by the time we left. This is a great place for locals and the younger crowd to party or have a drink. I read on here that this is a "dive bar" well its the best looking dive bar i've been too haha, maybe a dive bar with some taste and a dash of class...

Born and bred in this city but never made it to this bar until a couple years ago. I give it 5 stars for the excellent time I had that evening. Went with a few friends to see some band(s) I had never heard of and was very pleased with the beer selection and the atmosphere. What really made the night was this band called Rooster Fist that played. It was kind of heavy rock, which I don't tend to be all that into, but add some beer, the hilarity of their costumes and the content of their songs and I was an instant fan. In a city not known for its output of original music, this place ROCKS.

I have eaten at the Tap House countless times and tried most everything on the menu which has changed a little over the years but not a lot. The beer selection is good--sometimes quite good. The food is generally serviceable. Never bad. But rarely special. I recently had the best food there I have ever had. A piece of parmesan encrusted wahoo. It was wonderful. The rice dish that came with it was good. It seemed to have been made with converted rice which I kind of like but which gives it a 1960s feel. Then for desert there was a classic hummingbird three layer cake which was superb. Both were specials. Don't know if they'll have anything this good again for a while. But worth going back--just in case.

Dirty. A dive. Place hasnt sseen a mop in years. Surprised it passes inspections. Unfriendly staff. You have to do flips to get thier attention to get a beer here. If you are not a bohemian you will be an outsider. Avoid this place if you want service, and a smile. Unless of course you are the bohemian type, then you might like it. Ie wear hemp, sandels, glasses too small for your face, dont shave, and dont wash your hair. Youllfit right in.

Norfolk must not be a big Yelping community yet, because this bar should have fists upon fistsful of awesome reviews. Hours: 1600-0200. The bar itself has two semi-separate rooms, both with red walls decorated by posters and flyers. One room is more of a dining area with a stage, the other room is basically the barroom proper. There is a small bar there with 8 stools or so and some tables and mingling room. The service is good, attentive, and generally friendly. The vegetarian food is good. Tasty hummus, a delicious tempeh BLT, and the faux fried chicken sandwich is good too. I also heard good things about the pizza. The star of this place is the beer selection. They have taps from which flow pint-size servings of about thirty imported and craft beers. They also have about eighty bottled beers, with the same focus on quality. The bartenders are knowledgeable about the beers and not afraid to recommend or offer tastes. My prediction is that I will return many times during my month-long stay in Norfolk.

Fun place! I don't usually get to go out to the cool places in Norfolk, so I was really psyched to check this place out. Excellent beer menu. The waitresses know their stuff, so ask for recommendations. Food menu looked good, but there's only a short menu available at night, so we had fries for our dinner. The music was good and I even saw some people attempt dancing. The clientele is hip and make for good people watching.

The Tap House is always reliable for live music in Ghent. It honestly took me a couple visits before I could find this place with no trouble. Maybe that's why it's such a locals hangout. It's a comfortable place to kick back and enjoy drinks and entertainment. The outdoor patio is nice on cool summer evenings. I'm honestly not too sure about the food, but the drinks are good. For my friends and I, this is the place we end up, after eating dinner and getting the night started on Colley. We can usually head in late on a Friday/Saturday and still and get a table with no trouble.

I've been going to the Taphouse for a few years now and I just recently realized that they serve brunch on Sunday's. The brunch menu is amazing. There are a lot of vegan options and it's typically a ghost town Sunday morning/afternoon. It's nice to avoid the typical after church crowds and long wait times. There are often shows on the weekends. They've even had Unkown Hinson come through and play a set! The beer list is the biggest in Ghent and the atmosphere is very casual.

Great beer selection and the food is also a good compliment. Fun hangout with friends. Live music some nights as well. Best to sit outside and spend a few hours trying beers and talking with friends. Very casual atmosphere. Service might be slow but the staff is friendly. Beware Belgian beers on sale! ;)

If you want the best of the best beers you must go to the taphouse. I have never paid much attention to the music because that's not the reason I am there. Unless DJ Cornbread is rocking the spot and that means come early and start drinking early. Never tried the food here but that's not the reason to go. If you drinking you must go to the taphouse.

Derek B's on the money, Taphouse should have more glowing reviews. I used to frequent this bar because they have one of the best draft and bottled beer selection in Hampton Roads. The food here is decent, but you come here to imbibe in adult beverages, hang out with friends and maybe munch on bar food. I highly recommend the rum raisin bread pudding, mmm... yummy. One star for having Chimay on tap. One star for having Aventinus on tap. One star for having PBR on tap. lol One star for having an awesome selection of beef. One star for great bartenders and wait staff.

Superb beer selection. Kind of a dive, live (and loud!) music on occasion.

Just found this place last night. I have found my home and found my people. You know who you are. I could give them five stars right off the bat for having two (2, dos, deux, TWO!) pretty good porters on tap. They might even have more, but I didn't bother to look. I walked in alone and a mystery human bought me a drink. I think the bartendress was lying and that they just randomly comp customers drinks, because they actually do seem that friendly. Go here if you're into beer. I don't mean if you like to drink beer, if a 12-pack of Coors will do it for you. No, this is a bar for people who find beer interesting. I'll leave it at that. This place is cool, period. Go there.

I can't speak for the food, but I can recommend Tap House as a great place to grab a few beers and check out listen to live music (sometimes). I think it's necessary to experiment with beers and this location allows just that. They have a rather large selection of beers on tap and even sell pitchers of some of your favorite micro brews.

The Tap House is a great place to grab a drink and the food has always been great. They have catered to vegetarians and vegans for as long as I can remember. Their patio is a great place to unwind with friends in warm weather. I've always loved the vibe there.

Best bar in the area. Tons of great, interesting beers on tap, a couple of standards thrown in for the less creative beer drinkers. Their service is wonderful. Th food is great, high quality bar food (burgers, wraps, pizza, etc).

If your looking for that hard to find pint this is ur spot. There always seems to be a band playing a set there. I'm not always a huge fan of the band but I usually end up playing in a couple of games of pool in between drinks. If nothing else check this place out.
