Q Barbeque Menu

Amazing BBQ for a QSR. Not many places can pull this off. Ribs are awesome followed by Q Wings, chicken, pork, and finally brisket. Brisket is chopped only, over sauced and tastes like roast. Even still is pretty darn good. Best restaurant BBQ. Head and shoulders above Famous Daves, Dickeys, and Lucilles. They are all semi-pro

For what it is, it's pretty darn good. I got a 2 meat plate with one side (because really,it's about the BBQ, not the sides). I got brisket and pulled pork and greens as my side. It was served with a cornbread muffin and I got unsweetened tea to drink. The pulled pork didn't blow my dress up. It was a tiny bit dry, but it wasn't as warm as the brisket so I'm guessing I got a serving from an older batch. I added some of their 'hot' sauce to help it, and inhaled it. So definitely still pretty good. As a side note, I could use a little more heat in the hot sauce. The brisket, which YES, is chopped/pulled not sliced, was pretty phenomenal. I ate it as it was. Perfect amount of smoke flavor, not overly dry for the most part, good flavor of actual meat. Neither meat was overly smokey, or smoked to the point of being dry. Neither was overly fatty or greasy, either, which is a huge pet peeve of mine. The greens were delightful. Cooked enough but not flaccid (ugh). Lots of good flavor, not too much liquid. The cornbread tasted like real cornbread, not boxed mix. The tea was also delicious. Real brewed tea, not that bug juice powdered nonsense. Ultimately, I'll be back. Probably at a busier time than 4pm, when they move through product faster and I can get fresher stuff.

It's barbecue-flavored barbecue. The service is about what one expects given the style of restaurant- pleasant but not exciting, and the food is much the same. There is nothing wrong with anything, it's all perfectly acceptable [reliably so], but I feel like Richmond and the surrounding area requires that one step things up a notch, and it doesn't, quite.

I visited this restaurant today in search of some good barbecue. I spent $25 for the half rack of ribs meal and pulled pork sandwich meal ( meal includes two sides). The ribs were decent but not the fall of the bone kind I was hoping they'd be. The portions of the sides are really small and not fulfilling. This place is ok at best. I will stick to my normal place , Mission BBQ on glenside for quality and delicious BBQ .

I am full and satisfied with the meal that I had here. My husband is a big guy and he ordered the 1/2 rack of ribs and didn't even finish all his food. The corn bread is delish as well.

Gotta give them 5 stars, simply because they had the best pulled chicken I've ever had. Unlike most BBQ joints whose pulled chicken suffers from a certain dryness, especially compared to pulled pork, Q is the first BBQ I've ever tasted where the slow cooked pulled chicken was actually juicer than their pork. Aside from that, every other element of the meal was BBQ perfection. The sauces were delicious. The sides were some of the best sides I've had anywhere. I'm not even a fan of collared greens and I came back for more and more at Q. The beans, slaw, and mac and cheese were all equally delicious. Apparently my love isn't alone, as I'm told the pitmasters at Q are TV celebrities and have the wall of awards to back it up. If they keep cooking BBQ like this, I believe it.

I can not get enough of the pulled pork barbecue! The sides are all amazing, and the to go options are perfect for any size family. The brisket is also out of this world. The best bbq in the area by far!

Arguably one of the best BBQ joints in town. Fast, friendly service at a decent price. Reasonably portioned sides and plenty of meats to savor, not just your typical ribs and pork. Their sauces are excellent, too; my favorite being a tie between the sweet and the hot zing. Definitely stop by if you're in the area.

Great bbq! I had the chicken on and salad and my husband had the brisket sandwich. Mac and cheese and hush puppies on the side. Everything tasted fresh and perfect. Only complaint was that the jumbo brisket sandwich and Mac and cheese portions seemed a little small. I liked that they have a good bottled beer selection. Outdoor seating was nice, parking lot view, but quiet. They have catering options that I'm definitely going to try.

If you want BBQ in midlothian go to Qs! They barbecue is quite delish. My family and I got BBQ to-go one Sunday night. It was fast, reasonable and tasted great! A pound comes in a very small container but it's a lot more food than you think. The BBQ also comes with a little bit of sauce already on it, which I like. The hot BBQ sauce was my families favorite, not too spicy, but just spicy enough. The plain BBQ sauce was way too sweet for my taste. Sides: We only ordered coleslaw as well which tasted like normal coleslaw. The rest of the sides seemed pretty expensive for what you get, we just heated up our own baked beans to save some money. I was surprised at the limited amount of sides though. I like when restaurants have cool options, but over Q was pretty standard. I think I'll stick to just getting Q BBQ for a to-go easy meal instead of dining in. They have a few different bottled beers but nothing too exciting.

We have been to this restaurant several times before. We even had bought a large pan of the brisket for a catered party we had. To be honest we were very disappointed with the brisket. It was dry and did not taste like smoked brisket but more like it was made In a crock pot. The restaurant gets good reviews and the competition bbq team seems to do very well but im not conviced. It seems that the focus is in the bbq competition and not in this restaurant. I have had the ribs and still not impressed. I keep trying the bbq in hopes that I had a bad batch the time before. I really do love the smoked chicken wings and chunky blue cheese. Today my son and I visited for lunch. We ordered a chicken, brisket and pork bbq sandwich. We were informed by the staff that the chicken sandwich was made with thigh meat (love dark meat). We also asked for the brisket sliced and found that we could only have it chopped. The chicken sandwich was decent, the sweet sauce was too sweet for me. We opened the brisket sandwich and tried the brisket to see if the flavor could stand alone. Surprising, I had two pieces of the bark. For the first time eating here the brisket was very good. I enjoyed the sandwich. The Cole slaw was good also. The pork was "meh". I don't care for the potato rolls as sandwich bread. I know they last foreever but the taste of the bbq gets drowned out and tastes mushy. The food here was edible but nothing to write home about. The staff isnt very friendly and seems like they are always ready to go home. If your in the Midlothian area I highly recommend the chicken wings but go somewhere else for BBQ. I am willing to try the bbq again if they decide to change it up a bit.

Was in Richmond and wanted to check out some barbecue. After a quick search, we found that Tuffy Stone's place was in the neighborhood so, being big fans of "BBQ Pitmasters," we went to check it out. What an incredible disappointment. The ribs were fatty. The brisket wasn't worth the tray it was served on. The side dishes had barely any flavor at all. Frankly, I'm shocked to have been served such subpar barbecue in a restaurant by a so-called "pitmaster."

Q Barbeque is tops in my book... the restaurant is decked out in trophies from all the competitions they've won around the country. My favorite is the chicken barbeque, with sides of hush puppies and macaroni and cheese. The employees are always police and the food has always been cooked to perfection for me.

Awesome awesome. The first Q barbeque I went to a little ways away had under cooked ribs and wasn't fall of the bone good, This trip though? Blew me away! The brisket is amazing. Even better than amazing. I wanted an entire extra plate of it. The ribs here are at the top of my list, They're great. Yummyyummyinmytummy! Rad customer service like the first trip, This was a large, clean, and open store.

Stopped in for lunch and was quite impressed with the cleanliness of the place. Service was great, and very friendly. I bought some sauce and they offered to ship it to my house for free- nice touch. The pork sandwich was very tasty, and the addition of slaw made have it the Carolina touch. Sauces were a little too thick for pork, but I imagine they would go good with ribs. This is clearly not the same BBQ that Tuffy cooks in competitions, but he's done a nice job with his restaurant.

This is by far our favorite BBQ restaurant. It is consistently good. Our family favorites are the pulled brisket and ribs. During busy times or when they are running specials it is helpful to call your order in. That being said, do yourself a favor and sign up for their VIP program. They email out great deals you can only get if you are a member. Another tip is to buy a bottle of their BBQ sauce and add it to your own meals or a SAMs club chicken. So yummy!

Finally a decent BBQ Joint! My sister and I went here for lunch. She got the Pork BBQ sandwich with fries and I got the brisket sandwich with greens. Best brisket I ever had so far in life! It was so tender and juicy! The BBQ Sauce... I believe I had the original, was so good and the slaw was awesome with it. The greens were unique, sweet and spicy, but I liked it! My sister absolutley loved her sandwich The lemonade is off the chain! Taste homemade with the nice balance of sweet anf tangy! Will be coming back!

Was hungry for a good hotdog for lunch. This place was recommended and it is a great space to eat. Partner got the barbeque sandwich which he rated as OK only. I ordered 2 hotdogs. I had to pay extra for any toppings: .25 for slaw and .25 for onions. Plus the hot dog rolls were cold. Maybe their priority items are good but other items were marginal!! I have no need to return

I think the BBQ here is delicious. It was so good that I tried it with my book club on Thursday and returned on Saturday with my family. The chicken sandwich is my favorite. They don't skimp on the meat, which is smoky and tender and YUM! The hot zing sauce rocks! The sides here are mediocre. I would suggest getting a jumbo sandwich and skipping the sides altogether. My one gripe is that they don't offer mac and cheese on the kids' menu. All of the kids choices are meat based--BBQ, chicken tenders and hot dogs. Since Mac and cheese is a staple, how hard would it be to make a child's-size portion available to order. I had to order it as a side, which was about four small bites. We had to feed our kid when we got home.

Had to go here finally after moving to the city 6 months ago. HOOKED. The sides are DELICIOUS. Only downside is the portions are pretty small, but I left super full and satisfied. The mac and cheese was creamy and smooth, the corn pudding was the best I've ever had, and the hush puppies were the best I've tried in Richmond! The pulled chicken was exactly how I wanted it. The sauces were average, and almost tasted the same (I like a spicy BBQ when I can), but the meat barely needed it. Will be back (after I try all the other Richmond BBQ places!)

I am a bbq fan and had read and heard lots of good things about Q's, especially about it being better than Alamo and Buz & Neds. I'm a rib fan but I wanted to give the pulled pork a try as well so I ordered the 2 meat combo (ribs and pork) with fries. Unlike some folks, I don't go to a bbq place for the sides. The ribs were perfectly cooked -- just enough pull from the bone without falling off -- but almost flavorless. Maybe thats too strong of a word...underseasoned. Nothing stood out to me about them. I tried a dollop of each of their sauces. The original sauce tasted like it came from a grocery store. Not worth it. The pulled pork also was perfectly cooked but it was like a well cooked roast. Again, no character, nothing to make it stand out. Boring. If I were driving and hungry, and my choices were McDonalds, Subway and Q, I'd probably go to Q. But I wouldn't go out of my way to come here again. Sorry, Q lovers.

So good! Great atmosphere. Great portions. Take out is fast! Love their Bbq! Award winning for a reason! Their sauces are great too!

It's very expensive, but it's good quality BBQ. I had the ribs, brisket, pork and some of my friends chicken. The chicken was so over smoked you couldn't tell it was chicken. He couldn't eat it. The ribs are okay, but I wouldn't want a full rack of them. I didn't care for the brisket, as it tasted more like pot roast. It's also chopped, and I like brisket sliced. The pork is probably the best choice here. I'm also not a huge fan of their sauces. I think they're all too sweet. The mac & cheese side was awesome. I could've eaten just that and had been happy. It's worth trying. Friendly service too.

Wonderful (clean) barbecue place with great staff. Good for families and groups. I have been here three times. Love the pork sandwich with coleslaw. Lots of awards on the wall for wining barbecue contests. I guess you don't need to go to a hole in the wall to have good barbecue!

The staff was friendly and the food is great. Not only is their pork barbecue delicious, their beef brisket is savory and mouth-watering. The greens and baked beans are also good.

We entered through the wrong door and shuffled our way to the counter. Our brains were mush, having spent the last four hours listening to 100 ten-year old girls cheering their hearts out at 2013 CHEER SPECTACULAR!! ...I was told you have to say it like that... I stared at the menu boards ahead of me, ill at ease as the cashier stared politely back. My companions placed their orders and I, panicked, blurted out a request for a chicken sandwich with French fries. We were handed a small numbered plaque to place our table and we left to fill our cups and empty our bladders...though not in the same exercise, mind you. Suddenly realizing how parched I was, I filled my medium paper cup with tart lemonade, drank it immediately, and refilled. We took our seats in a cozy booth and I fiddled with my straw wrapper for a moment before laying my aching head on the cool table top. The men in my party immediately engaged with the Miami v New England game on the wall-mounted TV in the corner. I had just closed my eyes when the young waiter arrived, holding three plastic trays with glorious smelling foods piled on top. The shoestring French fries in their glistening, golden mass were the first to receive my attention. I zig zagged layers of ketchup over the mount, then turned my consideration to the sandwich. Pink tufts of smoked chicken spilled from the sides of the soft white bun. I pinched off a small bite and was pleasantly surprised at the flavor. Smokey, but not too smokey. Moist, but not too wet. Chickeny, but not ...too...chickeny. From the table I pulled the bottles of Original and Sweet sauces and layered both on the lid of my bun, then dug in. Food: 4 out of 5 Staff: 4 out of 5 Ambiance/Cleanliness: 4 out of 5 Overall: 4 out of 5

Stopped in here today with the family at lunch time. You order at the counter and they bring out your food. Service was standard. At a place like this it doesn't take much to go above and beyond but unfortunately, no one really did that. I ordered the Brisket Plate with Corn Pudding and Slaw. Corn Pudding was good. More pudding than corn but a nice sweet flavor. Slaw was good. Nothing fancy. Just your standard slaw. Brisket was. . . meh. . . .I agree that it tastes like pot roast. Definitely doesn't have a smoked flavor. I had to use my knife to cut it which is a big "no no." I should be able to pull it apart with my fork. It's served in chunks which is odd. Maybe they should slice it. Of their three sauces the "Zing" was my favorite. The sweet was plenty sweet. I really wanted to give this place two starts but the rest of my family really enjoyed their pulled pork and ribs so I bumped it up to 3. I'd go back (because I love mostly all BBQ) but I won't the brisket again.

I gotta say I'm disappointed. We stopped out of our way to eat here on our way to OBX from Roanoke, VA simply bc of bbq pitmasters. Ribs were tough (and not "good tough"), pork was bland and brisket was meh. I've had better BBQ in Ohio. I hope Tuffy Stone's competition food is better than this!

Giving this place another try. Just ordered the ribs and brisket combo. This was the best meal I have had here. The ribs were great and I mean great. Clean of the bone and great flavor. The brisket was decent wish they offered sliced brisket. My only problem with this place is inconsistencies. I've eaten at this location and the Brook rd about 5 times and I've only gotten a good meal twice. Sometimes the ribs are tender sometimes not so much.

Earlier today as I was round and about, I had a craving to try a BBQ place that I have never been to before. I've seen Q's Barbeque a number of times in passing, but have never mustered up the courage to try it out. I finally got my chance today. Here is my review. The Good: Taste- I ordered the two meat combo which came with Pork, Ribs, Mac n Cheese and Greens and a roll. The food had a great taste. The pulled pork was very delicate and the BBQ sauce really set it off. The ribs were typical for a bbq place. The Mac n Cheese was delicious. It reminded me of WaWa's Mac n Cheese which was a plus. And the greens had a good smokey mixed with vinegar taste. Customer Service- The staff inside were very friendly and had no problems answering any of my questions. As I was leaving, one of the staffs said a fairwell which went a long way towards making me feel welcomed. The Bad: Price- The two meat combo and drink came out to be a little over $17. At Shanes Rib Shack, you can get their Shack Sampler which comes with three meats, two sides and bread for a cheaper price. Portion Size- I am a hungry man and I need to be nice to my appetite before it disagrees with me. The two meat combo comes with 3 ribs, a scoop or two of pulled pork, a shot of mac n cheese and a shot of greens. While the food was good, I was still somewhat hungry afterwards. Overall: Great food, great customer service, but I may have to order double portions to fill my belly. FOUR STARS.

I went to Qs BBQ again this past week... I'm definitely a fan of this place for sure. This time I asked the cashier what their most popular meals are and he said the pulled pork BBQ, ribs, and the wings. I opted for the wings and he said they use the same mild sauce that is on the ribs and assured me that the wings were really good. The wings were... Okay.... They were cooked perfectly, juicy and tender but the sauce just didn't have that flavor impact I was expecting. My standards are set pretty high for wing related meals due to Quaker State (which is AMAZING). The sauce just wasn't that special to me. I guess if you go to a BBQ place you gotta get a pulled pork or ribs. I'll make sure to get the pulled pork next time. Service is actually EXTREMELY fast, on both occasions I went and it was during lunch time traffic, too. Kudos to them for making great food and delivering quick service.

Have frequented this location several times. Food was blah at best today. Ordered brisket on my BBQ salad and received pulled pork. Ordered blue cheese dressing and received old blue cheese with a skin on top. Even the lemon for my water was old n dry looking. Yuck. They no longer serve wine that's a bummer too .

Tasty, quick and never too pricey. My go to BBQ joint in Richmond... Menu isn't as clever as I like my BBQ to be, but it's still full of awesome flavor which is the most important aspect!

1st time. Will not be the last! Place is clean, staff polite, menu is clear and limited to a few items instead every style of BbQ known to man, read: if you are a NC style BBQ lover, this is not the place for you. I had pork sandwich and collards. Everything was fresh and tasted like it was homemade as they claim. Collards- ever since my granddad passed I accepted the fact that I would never taste good collards again. Up til about 10 minutes this has been true. Collards here are cooked down with ham enough to be tender but not wilted to the point of a green paste like most others. I can taste vinegar, touch of molasses or brown sugar, and slight heat in the aftertaste. Best collards I've had in 5 years. BBQ - very good, tender pulled style. Not chopped. Not bathed in sauce. Slight smoky flavor. They give a few sauce options. Slaw comes with and is solid. 4 out of 5 stars. Will satisfy my BBQ craving in between my quarterly stops to Pierces in Williamsburg.

Absolutely Loved Q in Midlothian. I can safely say that it's the best BBQ I've had out of a restaurant (non competition) outside of Kansas City. Nice, big, and clean restaurant with very high quality food all around. Tuffy Stone has a winner! I got the three meat combo with ribs, pulled pork, and chicken. The chicken is a mix of white and dark meat and it is chopped into bite-sized chunks. It had tons of great flavor with a nice smokiness and great savoriness from the rub. The pulled pork was also very enjoyable. It was chopped/pulled into large pieces so it still had nice texture and was cooked to perfect tenderness. The flavor was good but is really improved by adding just a little of the hot sauce (which isn't very hot at all) and a little of the vinegar sauce (it has garlic and chili flakes in it). This combination really served to elevate the flavor profile. The star of the plate was the ribs. They were, in my opinion, perfect. Perfectly tender but not falling off the bone. Really balanced flavor profile of savory/sweet/smokey/tang. They were moist and succulent. For sides, I got the mac and cheese and onion rings. Both of which were excellent. The mac and cheese was especially great with lots of creamy gooey flavorful cheese. My wife had the hush puppies which are perfectly fried and delicious! My only regret is that we don't live closer! Can't wait to come back! Also, if anyone is wondering, Tuffy is a great guy and we have seen him a couple times on the BBQ Competition circuit as my wife and I are KCBS Certified Judges.

I finally got here. I love that you order your food at the counter and they bring it to your table. It's like, almost a sit down restaurant, but much more quick- you're not at the mercy of your server for a refill of a drink or to get your check. The girl behind the counter even told me how I could modify my order to save money. Cool. I ordered the pork platter sandwich, with coleslaw, greens and baked beans. Everything was really, really good. Definitely as good as it gets. I won't lie- I drank the juice at the bottom of the container after finishing the greens. Possibly the best greens I've ever had. Only lost 1 point because I paid $13 for a lunch to feed myself and 2 2-year olds (they split a mac and cheese- which was also good.) You do get what you pay for, but you only get 5 stars in my book if I am impressed with the food AND the prices. :)

I've gone to Q's a few times now and I have to say....I love their ribs! A whole rack (without sides) is ~$20 and it is totally worth it! I tried their pork and brisket sandwiches too, which were both good. The (pulled, not sliced) brisket is juicy and tender, but the pork brisket is juicy, tender, AND flavorful! They offer 3 bbq sauces with their meats--original, sweet, and spicy. My favorite is the spicy bbq and the hubby's favorite is the sweet bbq. Their sides are pretty good too, my favorites being the hot dish (it's more of a dessert dish, with pineapple in it) and hushpuppies (though they are a bit pricey...$2 for 3 medium sized hushpuppies). The service has always been absolutely awesome here! They are always willing to tell you what they like and what they recommend. Apparently their pork and brisket have won several awards. I usually have my meal to-go so I can eat it in the comfort of my home in front of my TV and they give me more than enough sauce! Also, the place itself is very modern looking and clean--very nice for a small business. Overall, this place is great and I've stopped by at least three times now. If you're craving BBQ, this would be a good place to stop by!

Well, I need to catch up on my BBQ reviews, I'm way behind. About 5-6 behind! So here we are at Q and in my opinion, I think it's pretty good, but I've said before, I love BBQ! Now their pork in good! In my opinion it wouldn't win all the trophies in the restaurant, but somebody really, really likes it! They could use more choices of sauce and "Kick it up a notch" but I still like it. Now, I'll say that I like chicken BBQ and actually like it as well if not better than he pork! I know, I'm close to being thrown out of any kind of BBQ club, along w/ Heresy w/ a capital H! ! No matter how ya cut it, I can eat there for BBQ very nicely, thank you! . I like most of their sides, too. Beans,OK, greens, OK, slaw real good! Now, this has nothing to do w/ Q but I do not eat brisket, Ive never had it at Q. i guess I've never had good brisket, it tastes like ashes of burnt smoke and I'm done trying brisket! If you're on the Southside I can recommend Q. I didn't deduct any points for plastic utensils but ..... I'm sure I'm forgetting other places that use throw away dishes and plastic ware ....oh yeah Mickey D's.... BTW, I'd give it 3 and 1/2 stars if it could...peace!

I tried here after watching BBQ wars and hearing of Tuffy being in the area, but was severely disappointed. The ribs were tough and chewy, and overall the meal was overpriced for what it delivered. I would suggest finding a Dave's BBQ because it delivers more consistent and enjoyable product. Food was overcoooked and overpriced, not something to be considered after an initial run.

Ok, having been raised on NC BBQ, I'm a little biased and almost gave this place only 4 stars, but this is definitely the best tasting VA BBQ I've EVER had. Great value, too. Homemade, simple menu, and they even sell Cheerwine!

Sorry Q but I've got no choice but to throw you the infamous "Meh" rating. This is the second time I've been in this joint and likely to be the last. I'm really sorry to say I just can't hop on the mediocre food wagon in this strangely corporate setting. I think it's really cool they have trophies EVERYWHERE... but then again in today's society every kid gets a trophy just for showing up. Today I tried the Pulled Pork Meal, ordered Sandwich Style with Macaroni and Cheese and Hush Puppies for my sides. The Hush Puppies were gross. The outer 1/4" of them was oily crust, and the rest was bland, doughy hush puppy batter. Hats of for the portion size for sure, but it would be better if I liked them. The macaroni and cheese was also very bland and a bit mealy. I ended up soaking both items in the spicy BBQ sauce to try and up the ante a little. As for the Pork Sandwich, this was good. Not great, nothing worth promoting, but good. Once again though I ended up soaking it in so much spicy sauce that it really just drowned out the pork itself. My only complaint here is that 6 hours later I'm still left with smoke flavored indigestion. Sort of like heart burn... but more like heart smoke. I feel really bad about throwing out yet another 2 star review since that seems to be my trend lately, but I have to admit I'm really tired of the mediocrity that is all over this city. What happened to the adventurous foods and crazy things? Why doesn't a place like this offer something nostalgic like super spicy ribs or jumbo turkey legs... anything really other than the expected 8-10 items. I know it does well, but it certainly doesn't fare up to some of the better options in the city. Service is friendly, atmosphere is children's hospital lobby, location is odd, food is "meh". I won't be returning.

Haven't had their BBQ since they were open in Hampton and it's definitely one of the best smoked pulled BBQ places hands down. My friends live in Mid-lo and they picked it up to go today and it was just as good as I remembered it. A must-try for BBQ lovers!

  • Ava L.

Friendly service, good food. I'm not the biggest beef bbq fan, I'm pork all the way! But their brisket is the best item on the menu. Like most bbq places, the sides are a little uninspired. The meat is the main attraction. They are super clean; this is the only restaurant that I've seen thoroughly cleaning their drink machine. I know that most restaurants do this but I just don't happen to see it. My book club met at Q, and we were leaving as they were closing up. I asked if I could take some extra food home. Although they had been closed for two minutes, they opened the cash register back up, and sold me a family sized meal to go. Most other places would have just said, "Sorry, we just cashed out".

I used to be a huge Q fan, but the past three times I've eaten here, I have left disappointed. I don't know what has happened, but the food just isn't the same. The pork BBQ and the chicken are incredibly salty, and the sides leave much to be desired. It is also pretty pricey in my opinion. My quest for good BBQ in richmond continues...

  • Joe C.

Alas. I suppose I entered Q expecting too much. A few months ago, I had the Brisket meal, served with beans and onion rings. I recall the beans having a hint of smokiness, and the onion rings perfectly crispy. The brisket was "eh," and I smothered it in their Spicy BBQ sauce for good measure. It also came with a roll of bread. Not sure what to do with it, I picked up some butter and clumsily attempted to spread it. Tough to do when it's still solid, it turns out. So I found myself in the area, tummy a growlin'. The clever logo came to mind, and so I went. Tried the brisket meal again, and picked up the Mac & Cheese and Hush Puppies for sides. I'm generally indifferent to hush puppies, but given the enthusiasm of the hostess that recommended them, I gave them a shot. And just like the onion rings, the texture was perfect. Not too oily. However, the insides were on the doughy side, and pretty dry. I guess they're usually dry. Eh. The mac & cheese was pretty dry as well, though the flavor wasn't bad. I do wish the portion was bigger for the mac & cheese, and smaller for the hush puppies. The brisket itself? About the same as the previous visit. It required gratuitous amounts of spicy sauce to bring it life. Now, it was still "okay," as far as pulled pork goes. But not really worth writing home about. I didn't take a good long look at the beverage choices, but the lemonade was just what I needed to wash down the sides. The service was amicable, the food arrived pretty much as soon as I found a seat, the location was a bit out of the way, and though I did like the decor, the atmosphere could be compared slightly favorably to a college dining hall in summer break. I doubt I'll be returning. Though maybe if someone treats me to Q in the future, I'll try some of the other mains/sauces.

This my go to place for bbq. I only get the pulled pork or ribs, and both are consistently good. Consistency of meat is very difficult to do in a bbq restaurant. The texture and tenderness is the hard part, as pork shoulder tends to dry out as it is held, and steam tables and micowaves will turn it into a mush mess. This is why some restaurants ONLY serve it minced and pre-sauced. If this is your only option, go somewhere else. Some restaurants will chop extra fat back into the meat for moisture, and add the sauce for better flavor. Restaurants that are proud of their product will offer it to you as you request I always order my pork pulled, with no sauce or slaw. It needs neither, and they would only cover up the flavor of the meat. I find the pork to have a good balance of flavors and smoke. Also, it was moist and has a good smoke ring. I will sometimes order it as a sandwich with no sauce and no slaw (none needed). Great sandwich. The ribs, somehow, are always well cooked (very difficult). Rib meat should NEVER fall off the bone. That would be an overcooked rib with texture suffering, and anyone can do that. These ribs vary around center with a generally a clean bite and frequently a very slight tug, the way they should. Sometimes the meat will get a slightly loose, but not so much that the texture suffers. The flavors are great with good balance, just enough smoke, and you can taste the pork. For the sides, I always stick to the fries or onion rings. Both are always served hot and crispy. My companion usually strays away on the sides and loves the greens and the corn pudding. The tea is very good. The service is good, the staff is friendly, and the prices are reasonable. I am a Master BBQ Judge for the Kansas City BBQ society.

After seeing the owner of Q Barbeque compete in BBQ Pit Masters on television. I had to try the BBQ at Q Barbeque. I was impressed with the BBQ ribs. They were tender and the meat fell off the bone. The ribs were good without the sauce. The original, sweet and hot BBQ sauces were flavorful.I order three sides with my ribs. The mac n cheese, potato salad, and onion rings. All three sides were good. The potato salad had a strong mustard taste. I had a frozen margarita with my meal. The margarita did not have an alcohol tatse. The restaurant was very clean. The decor is really nice and modern. Q Barbeque has a nice family atmoshphere. The service was really good. The staff brought my meal to my table and took my plate after I was done eating. I appreciated the good customer service at Q Barbeque. The restaurant is very spacious.Q Barbeque has seating inside and a small sitting area outside the restaurant. The employees were friendly. I highly recommend going to Q Barbeque to enjoy some ribs and the nice atmosphere.I give Q Barbeque a 4.5 rating!

A few weeks back I finally decided to wander into this establishment with the weird pig nostrils as its logo. Nice place. Very clean. Great aromas greeted me at the door. Nice, polite staff. A telly (No I am not English, I just think it sounds cool to say it that way) with the Olympics broadcasting. Lots the environment liked, I. =P As far as the food goes it was hit and miss with me. The taste was basically a hit, but the price was a miss. I am not cheap, usually, but I felt I did not get my moneys worth. The pulled chicken sandwich I had came with plenty of pulled chicken, but not much bun. And it was just a regular run of the mill hamburger bun. I mean can a brother get a sesame seed bun?! I should have asked for an extra bun to make two sandwiches, but I am sure that would have been another dollar or two. However even still I would have run short of barbecue sauce, which was on the side as I requested, but it was in a container about the size of a sewing thimble. Really? The coleslaw was terrible and so bland it added nothing to the sandwich at all. At least I got a free cookie. But that is not enough to likely have me revisit this establishment. Unless a friend accompanies me and we have the rigs which everyone seems to rave about.

I live in S. Jersey, so better than average BBQ joints up here are few and far between.... This place serves the BEST BBQ I've ever had in a restaurant. Their BBQ, no matter what you get is honest to god, competition quality. I have personally tried the Ribs, Brisket and Pork and they are all oustanding, and have been oustanding each time I have been there. We have family in the Midlothian area, so this restaurant is a definite MUST each time we visit. Last time we went, we even dropped like $100 on BBQ to take home for all of our friends. The sides are very tasty as well, as we've had the Pineapple hot dish, mac and cheese, onion rings and cole slaw. This place is so good, I hope the locals down there realize it and keep them IN BUSINESS! The amibiance is nice, this is an enjoyable restaurant to sit down and eat. Clean, trendy and LOADED WITH TROPHIES. It's no joke, legit BBQ. Competition Quality each time, and I'm a certified KCBS BBQ Judge!

Came here for a first time with my friends and lady, overall...I like this place. The restaurant has a nice casual home feel, every thing was very clean and a lot of space to move around. The staff was personable and fast, soon as I came up the register to order my food the guy started naming beers I would be interested, which they have a pretty good selection! I grabbed my PBR in a bottle and had beef brisket with corn pudding (thank God I found a place that has corn pudding!) and mac 'n cheese. The food was awesome! They have various sauces you can use at the table, my favorite being the spicy BBQ, the corn pudding was fantastic, and so was the mac 'n cheese though that wasn't really anything special. I also got to try their hush puppies...oh man they tasted like home made! Very crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. My first experience was pretty great, I hope to come back and try some of their other entrees.

Finally got to try Q. I only got two pulled pork BBQ sandwiches, bakes beans, and mac n'cheese. While it is certainly above average, and maybe the best barbecue south of the river, I remain a Buz and Ned's man. The decor belies the fact that they're locally owned and have good taste on many fronts. I actually went to check the website twice, feeling sure I'd stumbled onto a multi-state chain. There are only three restaurants - two in Richmond and one in Hampton. They've got a good beer selection, and the cashier was not afraid to give his opinion of their best side (mac n'cheese), which I appreciated. I would not order the baked beans again - far too much liquid. The barbecue was certainly good, and as it is the closest good barbecue place to me, I'll probably go again. However, based on this visit it is not in the running for best barbecue in the region.

The atmosphere was nice, service was helpful, fast and friendly overall impressive. Value was above average the quantity was very good for the cost. Had the brisket and pork for main dish brisket was good, pork was better. Sauce was good but I do agree with others they need to up the sauce choices and kick it up a notch. The fries were outstanding, Mac and Cheese very good and beans were ok. The cleanliness was definitely above average. I will definitely re-visit here and would recommend anyone to give it a try.

This restaurant has an ok ambiance, however I like to come here for food to go, or for when we are hosting a casual get together. Today when I picked up the food with my kids we got home and realized they forgot to pack the barbeque sauce (sweet, regular and zing). When I called, they apologized and delivered the sauce to my house. They arrived 15 minutes later. Talk about amazing service!!! My kids love the ribs, I love the pulled pork and we are all fans of the mac and cheese!

This is easily one of Richmond's top BBQ joints. As other reviewers have noted, you may have recently seen owner George "Tuffy" Stone on BBQ Pitmasters. He'd been making BBQ for years before deciding to open his own place. The restaurant is decorated with trophies he's picked up all over the country. Some people complain that Q looks too stylized. Even my boyfriend has mentioned that he prefers grungy down-home BBQ joints. I happen to like the creative logo and enjoy eating some home-cooked goodness in a clean, cheerful atmosphere. Many also suspect the look is meant to be franchised. I can never decide what to order, so I usually end up with a 2- or 3-meat combo. I think the brisket here is life-changing. It's tender, perfectly flavored and it falls apart on your tongue. The pork and ribs are also very good. The three sauces (original, sweet and hot) are more Virginia-style and I wish there was more of a Carolina-ish option, but I like to mix the sweet and hot, then add a drizzle of the garlic-and-pepper-infused vinegar on the table for a nicely balanced flavor. The sides are all pretty good. If you like corn pudding, order it here. I really like that they sell microbrews in addition to some of the norms. I tried Dixie beer from New Orleans here for the first time, along with several other obscure brews from around the United States. They have several from Bell's, Lagunitas and St. George's Brewery. The Bell's Brown Ale pairs very well with 'cue. Service has always been friendly, and the people at the counter are happy to offer order suggestions. I'll be back soon for another BBQ meal!

Just tried this place today, and it was really unexpectedly good. I thought it was a huge chain, and so I was shocked to learn they have TWO locations only- one here and one in Hampton! It's branding is really cool, and the restaurant itself is large and clean. I had a pork plate, and I got two sides- coleslaw and "beans." Here's a helpful note- those turned out to be BAKED beans not GREEN beans like I thought :) But my friend said she made that mistake when she first went here too... they don't have green beans, they have "greens" which are kale, and "beans" which are baked beans. The pork was exceptional. Perfectly cooked, and pretty well-flavored, though I couldn't resist trying the sauces on the table. There were three- hot, original, and sweet. I tried original and hot, and both were good. I actually usually won't each Virginia BBQ, I much prefer North Carolina (I have a bit of a habit with vinegar) but this sauce wasn't overwhelmingly thick and gooey or overly sweet like I've found most Virginia BBQ to be. So of course, I practically licked my plate clean. The coleslaw was also good, just like you would expect fresh coleslaw to taste like... and the plate came with a potato roll, of which I saw packages upon packages stacked up behind the counter... they aren't making them fresh, but they tasted good to me. This place isn't fancy, you go up to the counter and order just like any other faster-food restaurant... but the prices are reasonable and I saw one of my friends order ribs that literally slid off the bone (making me really wish I had ordered those as well as the pork!) so I'm going to be going back.

Between a 3.5-4 for me :) I appreciate down-home, lived-in joints that are full of local history. I love hole in the wall places that are unapologetic for their lack of visual finesse. BUT, I won't knock on a place for being new and modern in appearance. The decor is simple and clean, still letting the barbeque shine... I'm down with that. The ribs were tender but still with a bite, with beautifully pink smoke rings. The brisket was juicy and fell apart, though I could've used more seasoning. I couldn't identify any outer layer/bark, but I honestly don't know enough to tell you if that was intentional or not. Chicken wings were decent too. Overall, the meat I had was good. I enjoyed my greens, welcoming the unusual tanginess. Fries were crispy. Can't complain about the hush puppies either! While I haven't tried Buz and Neds, I've gotta say that this place was good and was a solid choice for dinner. I'll be going back soon.

The food is good. No denying that. The hush puppies were the best I have ever tasted. Some of the sides were meh.. beans and coleslaw were average. The menu is a little confusing though when you first visit the place. We were expecting a sit down service type place and it is more like fast food setup. My only gripe is the cost. It was nearly $50 for a family of 4 with drinks. We could have gone to Chili's or Ruby Tuesday for less. Not sure we will be back.. there is a lot of places to eat down Hull Street and for $50 I would rather eat somewhere else.. if it was cheaper, I could absolutely see us popping in here often.

Your search for bbq is over. This is by far the best barbecue in all of Richmond. I've been to every single competitor and nothing stands up to the consistency, tenderness, or flavors. Pork & ribs, enough said.

I have been a patron of this Q since it first opened on Midlothian. I have loved their food and always recommended it to friends and family. I am now writing this review because I just got back from Memphis TN where I tried the famous Rendezvous BBQ. Now, I'm not taking anything away from that establishment, but let me just say that as I was eating it, I kept thinking: Wow! We have better BBQ at home in Richmond at Q!!! Q beats Rendezvous hands down! The pulled pork is delicious. Q's sauces are fantastic and everyone should try the pineapple hot dish. Yummy!

Considering it's place in Southern lore, Richmond should have lots of great BBQ joints. Not really. I've stumbled around here over 6 years and just discovered this place. Not perfect, but far better than the traditional places in town. I never understood why I was supposed to appreciate eating BBQ in a dump, so this place is a refreshing change from the usual roadhouse. Ribs and pulled pork are sublime, and the hush puppies should be illegal. The kids will love the mac 'n cheese, too.

I'm usually picky when it comes to Barbeque but this was honestly the best I've had in a while. The smell that hits you at the door is mouth watering. The best way to describe the place is to say it's the Panera of Barbeque. The decor is trendy and colorful. The dining area is large with a nice selection of well divided booths and tables. You enter and place your order, find a seat, place your number on the table and they bring the meal out to you. We ordered a brisket meal and a 2 meat meal. All the meat was melt in your mouth tender and had a fabulous hickory smoke flavor. The 2 meat meal was quite large. Hubby said the ribs were the best he's had in the Richmond area to date. There are 3 sauces at the table for you to "play" with; original, sweet and hot. There is a nice list of sides to pick from. We had baked beans and potato salad. The baked beans were good but I have to say Famous Daves wins this round. The potato salad on the other hand was the BEST I've ever had at a restaurant. It was made with red skin potatoes and a mayo/mustard base. I will definitely be back for more!!!

I have to be honest, I've given Q 4 different visits all with the high hopes of some satisfying bbq and it fell short single everytime. Always thinking that it was just a bad day or batch. The pulled pork had no flavor or any good bark which really makes the difference. Ribs fall of the bone but have always been dry. I can taste the hickory smoke which is so common. Always love palces that try other new wood flavors of apple, cherry, oak something different. Brisket, dry and tasted more like roast beef than good Texas brisket. The cole slaw, basic recipe nothing different or special. The beans I thought had excellent flavor and really enjoyed but not worth the trip just to have a side dish. What is discouraging and why I've given them so many chances if that the owner and his team are well awarded bbq champs in most categories and I'm sure are so capable of blowing us away with awesome bbq but it appears that they keep all of their hard efforts for their traveling show and not local customers. I am an avid bbq smoker and eater, I do a lot of my own smoking for fund raisers and I'm pretty picky when I eat others. My bar is set high, I look to eat at bbq restaurants that I aspire to someday and Q is not that place.. I can name a half dozen other bbq spots within 2-3 miles that far surpass it. Buzz and Neds to me is still the bar of Richmond. Q, I will offer up is a very clean, and attractive restaurant but for me good bbq can be picnic tables and paper plates..it's all about the quality of the product. They are SO capable of better, hopefully someday they may live up to their championship reputation. I can't give them any more chance there are way too many other great bbq place in Richmond. After all this is the south!

Well some folks at work have been after me to try Q BBQ. Well here we are at Q's to give them a spot on my BBQ list. So this is my first time at this establishment and when we walked in it,it didn't fit the BBQ stigma. Anyway we step in line (and it is short) and with in two minutes we were ordering. My wife got the regular BBQ sandwich and I got the same and the rib taster. So we go and get our sodas and grab a seat so I can take a few pictures. Now we haven't been at our seats long and the food is delivered to our table and looks very good. ( as you can see in the photos ) the sandwich was tender and moist but lacked that smoky punch but other wise very good. Now on to the ribs again tender and moist and the smoky taste lacking and other wise good. I do not use sauce on my BBQ but I do sample it and all three were good. One was a sweet, one was more hickory taste and the other tries to be like a NC style. My moto is I should not have to add sauce if it is done right. You know when you go to a steakhouse and they ask you, would you like A1 with your steak. If I most add a sauce to make it taste good then you ain't cooking it right. But Q's will get another visit from me, maybe they will get the smoke up.

When in Richmond, the most popular barbecue joints are Buz and Ned's and Bills...I think just because they have been here the longest. Q is head and shoulders better than any other barbecue restaurant in Richmond including the aforementioned and Famous Daves and Extra Billy's. Q is very casual. The service is like Jason's Deli, You order as you walk in and they give you a table number, and about 5 minutes later they bring the food to you. The pork and chicken are great, I have not had anything else. all the sauces are great except the vinegar "Carolina style" sauce which is merely mediocre. Almost all the sides are great. Good sweet tea and a decent selection of beer. Q is a little bit expensive but I guess its worth it because I keep coming back. The outdoor seating is limited but nice when the weather is good. The restaurant can get pretty busy and when it is the cashiers get a bit pushy and abrupt. You can usually count on the manager coming by your table to ensure everything is ok.

It took me awhile to get to this location and try their barbecue. I'm a fan of Buz & Neds on the Boulevard, and this is the best barbecue I've had next to that. The ribs are great. I can say that I was disappointed by the brisket. It looked and tasted like shredded pot roast. I prefer the thick sliced smoked brisket that I've had at other places, but overall the food was very good.

I ate at Q Barbeque for the first time tonight. It was EXCELLENT! I had the pork and brisket combo, with Mac and cheese and onion rings. The pork absolutely melted in my mouth. I'm a huge fan of pulled pork, and this is by far the best I've ever had. It had an excellent smokey flavor, and was perfectly seasoned. The brisket was awesome as well. The flavor was so deep and smokey, it's no wonder why they've won so many awards. I've never had such tender, juicy, flavorful brisket. As far as the sauces were concerned, I wasn't a huge huge fan, but the meat was so good on it's own, I didn't need any at all. The onion rings were good, and the mac and cheese was ok. Not bad, but not great. I love this place, and can't wait to go back. I would highly recommend it!

Tried Q for the first time and loved it. Great BBQ reasonably priced with a great menu. Excellent service combined with a spacious and comfortable restaurant that also has outdoor seating. We thought that the BBQ here was the best in Richmond (check out the awards and trophy's around the restaurant) and that says a lot since we like BBQ and have tried some of the other better known restaurants in Richmond. We ordered the ribs, brisket, pork and chicken and loved them all. Baked beans and cole slaw were both great. Generous portions brought to your table after ordering makes it very convenient with a minimal wait. Another review compared this family owned and run BBQ restaurant to be the Panera of BBQ and we agree completely. You will not be disappointed if you give Q a try. We highly recommend it !

A lot of folks swear this is better than Buz & Ned's and that's saying something. The pork is really good and you can't beat the prices at $4 for a sandwich and a little over $7 for a combo meal with a side and a drink. I love it that they have a large selection of sides, not just slaw and fries. You can get mac 'n cheese, hush puppies, and greens as well. Plus, you can pick up stuff for your own picnic or get-together since you can buy the meats by the pound and the sides by the pint. These guys also do catering under the name "A Sharper Palate".

Learned about that this place was down the street after seeing the owner competing on Barbeque Pitmasters. I had the ribs and brisket with hushpuppies and my son had the wings with slaw and we both had an order of pinapple ot dish. We were not disappionted. looking forward to checking out the rest of the menu soon.

Ok....since the first go around didn't quite go as planned. Let me try a different approach. This is probably the best BBQ east of the Mississippi. Yes they have allot of trophies and awards EVERYWHERE, but they earned everyone of them. This isn't youth league soccer, so they are being rewarded on their food, presentation, and most importantly how good is the food?. That being said, they are consistently excellent. Myself and family eat there at least 3-4 times a month and have yet be be even remotely disappointed.

Q is delicious, quick, and clean with a friendly staff. I've eaten at this location a number of times. The ribs are tender and if you ask, they will slice them individually. The hush puppies are outstanding , but where they really do it right is with the pineapple hot dish . It's a perfect sweet, savory complement to smoky meats. Can't say enough good things about this place. It's not cheap quality, so I don't mind the prices. You get what you pay for.

My absolute favorite barbeque restaurant!!!! My husband LOVES the brisket and neither of us wants to go anywhere else for BBQ anymore! I have had the ribs, pork BBQ, and brisket, and always have a hard time deciding which to order. Side dishes are good; however, I have found the corn pudding and Mac & Cheese to be inconsistent in texture and flavor depending on the day - thats the only reason they dont get five stars! Hush puppies are yummy, fries are typical fries, and cole slaw is yummy!! I highly recommend trying the Q next time you want BBQ!

I really dislike the cafeteria style self service. For me at least half the dining experience is the service. The dinning room is pretty utilitarian as well. So far I liked but did not love the food. I know there is some debate over baby back vs med or full grown hogs for BBQ. Let me just say for the record I prefer baby back ribs. Ok so here they use med ribs, they are tender and well prepared. Obviously these ribs are meatier than baby backs and I can see the attraction. We liked the sides well enough but nothing stood out as outstanding. The sauce is the best we have had in Richmond so far. I guess that has to count for something. As good as the BBQ is it is not so awesome that I will go back soon because of the cheesy service style.

I can't give this place 5 stars yet because I have not yet visited the actual establishment, but I have had their BBQ from the "Broad Apetite" Festival and it was delicious. It is so flavorful! I find it much better than Buz and Ned's BBQ (which is still delicious), but Q Barbeque's flavor stands out.

I saw Q's ad at the airport and was pleasantly surprised when I saw they were close to where I am staying in town for the week. Upon arrival, I asked what they did best. I got a rather conceited response - number one in the country this, number two in the world that... Just tell me what you do well without the attitude. I landed on six wings and a 3-piece ribs with greens and beans for sides. I did take the food back to the hotel so I can't say if it would have been better on site. The wings were great and both sauces I had made them even better (I had hot and regular and agree with another commenter that the hot sauce could be hotter). The ribs were a little too dry for my taste. It looked like they may have been sitting for a bit though with that cracked looked on the sides so maybe I got an old batch. I *love* good beans and greens and these just didn't hit the mark. The greens were overcooked and mashed into a takeaway cup and came out looking like a collard green muffin. The beans were also sub-par, also overcooked and lacking real flavor. I would love to give it another shot, but only in town for 2 weeks and so many more places in town to try. Sorry Q - better luck next time.

I'm no BBQ professional, but I enjoyed my pulled pork BBQ sandwich with slaw, and the other folks at the table were all praise and smiles. We were drawn in by the clever logo, awed by the many positive online reviews, and impressed by the trophies. The meats were tasty, moist and deemed delicious by all 7 of us, including the 2 resident Extra Billy's fans. My favorite: the corn pudding. A heart attack in a cup, no doubt, but sweet and creamy and salty and highly addictive. I'll be back, the next time I'm in Virginia, and I expect my hosts will be regulars before too long.

Weird stripmall location, but full of trophys and awards, proving its real deal BBQ. I tried the three meat, two sides. I got ribs, brisket, and pulled pork, along with Mac and cheese, beans, and a roll. The ribs were quite good, but Buz and Ned's is at a different level. The brisket was pulled, so fattier than I like, as was the pork. However, they were both extremely tender, although nothing had much of a smoky flavor. The brisket was good, but the pork was the star. The normal sauce was pretty good, hot was still very mild, and the saweete was not good. The sides were so-so. A return visit for pork is in my future.

Their prices are a little high but I really enjoy the food. It isn't super greasy which makes me happy since I do occasionally like to pretend I'm a healthy eater. I also love that I can get a beer or a cheer wine (on tap) with my food. Their sides are all super tasty my favorites are the mac n cheese, potato salad and onion rings. I usually go for the chicken BBQ platter with cole slaw on my sandwich and whichever two sides I'm craving. I love mixing the sweet and hot sauces on my BBQ. So awesome.

If Q BBQ is in your schedule, you better not plan any physical activity for a couple hours (maybe 5-6) after you eat here. If you're borderline heart attack or having trouble breathing, this might just put you over. Don't be a pig like me and order 2 pork sandwiches with a side of hush puppies and some mac'n cheese. I could barely finish just one sandwich before I started getting this pain in my stomach. They really are bigger than they look. Hush puppies! I was stuffed after about 2 bits, so heavy. And finally that mac'n cheese filled with cream and goodness, night and day compared to Kraft. The good thing about Q is the location. I can roll right over to Walmart, walk around for a while and feel good about myself. You know, life's not that bad. Only a few places you can do this, the others being Kings Dominion and IHOP. Whenever I come to Q, I am craving BBQ! But whenever I leave I feel like "Why did I just eat all of that?" My back starts to hurt and my face smells like I just rubbed something on it. Buz & Neds is building another location on the West End. Have to try it when it's ready. I've eaten at the original location a long time ago, but usually don't go to that area very much. So is it better? I think it's just different, depends on what kind of BBQ you like and how much $$$ you're willing to spend on it (Buz & Ned's is expensive IMO)

My wife works in Midlothian and we recently ate lunch here, she suggested this place for dinner. We drove nearly 20 miles for this place and quite frankly it wasn't worth it. The barbecue was nothing special, we tried the chicken, brisket and pork, none were above average. I had their greens and they were awful with some sort of sweet vinegar on them that didn't do anything for the taste. The baked beans were weak on flavor and did not satisfy. The lone bright spot was the coleslaw which was good. The mac&cheese was melted velveeta and macaroni. As for the restaurant itself it needs to focus less on being the Panera Bread company of the Barbecue niche and work on making real barbecue. In Richmond, this place can't hold a candle to Buz and Ned's barbeque.

This is always my first meal when I come home to Richmond. Don't let the decor fool you, this place is as local as it gets. For starters the hush puppies will knock your socks off. As good as they are though, don't fill up on them because the star of the show is the barbecue. The barbecue literally melts in your mouth it's so good. The sauce is excellent, but the meat is so flavorful you may not not even need it. For me Q is always a must have when I'm in Richmond.

I feel exactly the same as Marc B, who posted below. I've been to Q twice now, both times expecting an outstanding barbecue experience based upon the awards they have all over the restaurant. Although the restaurant is clean, server/cashiers friendly and helpful - the food just doesn't do it for me. I really wanted and expected to LOVE Q - a local award-winning BBQ joint, and instead I find myself going to Famous Daves, a chain down the road - and have been loving their food. (I havent yet visited Buzz and Neds or Bills).. It might just come down to a taste preference - the bark on the ribs was very heavily seasoned and the meat was dry - maybe it's supposed to be like that? If that's your preference then you might love Q. Me.. not so much. But nothing bad to say about the place other than the flavor of the ribs (and beans, but thats another story).

been here multiple times, love the brisket and pulled pork best, smoky and well-shredded, place is well-maintained, clean, and good atmosphere, usually quick service, i wish i could go more often, definitely a must-try for this location or any other Q Barbecue, thanks Tuffy!

OMG! This place is fantastic! My husband and I were just out and about on this side of town and happen to smell that wonderful BBQ wood smoke smell in the air and had to find out where it was coming from. It took us to this little strip mall and to Q Barbeque! Best discovery we have made in a long time! We both had the BBQ sandwhich which came with two sides. I got the mac and cheese, which tasted like it just came out the oven and the onion rings which were crisp and not greasy. The BBQ was beyond perfectly cooked. So much flavor and you had at least 5 sauces to choose from, which was an added bonus. They also give you huge portions and the price is so great! We have been talking about going back for months but just have not gotten to that side of town again, but you can bet when we do we will stop in at Q Barbeque. No wonder it has won so many awards. The place is nice and clean, the staff was excellent and you really should give it a try. The only downside??? There isn't one closer to where I live!!

This has yet to be the best bbq joint I've been to in Richmond. Have tried many from Benny's, Buzz and Neds, Alamo, etc. The pork and brisket are amazing!

Well, it's very clean. But BBQ it isn't. The 'brisket' tastes like overdone pot roast, the ribs lack any crust at all and the chicken was over salted and under flavored. It was kind of like gettin BBQ at Panera. Recommend Buzz & Ned's or, if your stuck on the south side, even Extra Billy's.

I had a positive experience at Q Barbeque. It looks like another strip-mall restaurant from the outside but it's unique on the inside. The decor contains bright colors and basic cheap modern furniture. There is a TV in one corner of the store with a nice wraparound table not too far from it so you can sit and watch. When you walk in the aroma of barbecue hits you. It's been smoking all day and you can tell when you taste it. They had pork, brisket, chicken, and ribs. The pork and brisket had a lot of flavor and were not salty. The brisket was my favorite. The ribs were fall-off the bone and held its flavor well. The chicken was dry compared to the other meats but compared to other ways to prepare chicken was top-notch. It has a peppery flavor to it. As for sides I liked the cole slaw as it was not drenched in mayonnaise. The corn pudding was hot and flavorful though it seemed quite buttery for you health-conscious people out there. The french fries were standard-issue but the hush puppies seemed to be made fresh and were some of the best I've had. They had a light breading on the outside yet was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Overall I think this is the best barbecue establishment in Richmond. It's tucked away in the Southside but give it a try.

It's definitely a "meh". Pretty good food, but for the price not quite sure. It's a convenient stop for me in my travels around town, so that's why they are usually my stop for bbq. So I joined the frequent customer club thing with the card... not sure what the purpose is. Have spent a bunch of money there, and I finally get an email for a $5 lunch deal! A sandwich, a side, and a drink! Wow, not exactly a deal. And good only on one specific day and only for a 4-hour period. Hey Q, please don't insult me. Just for that, I will make it even longer before I come back. I guess it is what it is.

Best pulled pork in all of Richmond, and great chicken and ribs as well. This barbecue joint is as good as any other around town. On top of that, their offering of 3 different barbecue sauces on every table makes for an even more diverse meal that you can calibrate to your tastes and mood. The owner was featured in TLC's pitmasters, and with the numerous trophies strewn about the restaurant, it's not hard to see why. There is no better BBQ joint for sure in the west end.

I have had barbeque across the country (Arthur Bryant's burnt ends in KC, MO are by far the best FOOD, let alone barbeque I have ever eaten), and Richmond does fare pretty well between Double T's and Buzz and Neds. A recent find is the unassuming storefront between Walmart and Sam's in Midlothian. Q may seem like the "wrong" type of authentic BBQ place, with its clean counters and helpful staff, but this is some of the best BBQ I have had, especially the beef brisket (chunks, not slices, and believe me, you'll be back for them) plus hearty pork sandwiches and a mountain of side choices ranging from greens, to mac and cheese, to corn pudding (get them all). Although, I would like the side sizes to be a bit bigger...The more I go, the more I like it, and their prices are quite reasonable, although they have been inching up lately. Still, I must say if it is a place that all in the family can agree upon, who's up for seconds...or thirds? There's lots to try, and I plan to try it all...Going back.

The food was ok at best. I was craving BBQ and expected a little more but the service was nice and friendly. It reminded me of a BBQ Arby's.

Don't make the mistake of judging this place by it's decor. It looks like a corporate cookie cutter chain, located just next to a Walmart. It is actually family owned and operated, and their BBQ is LEGIT! These guys know how to properly smoke meat, and the results are succulent and delicious. They have a good selection of beers (stay away from the frozen margarita - attrocious), and their prices are very reasonable (for both food and beer). Very much worth the drive. I will be returning

We love this place! We ordered the pulled pork, brisket, and the chicken and it was all amazing - great smokey flavors and still super juicy. The menus is very straight forward and to the point. Come here for BBQ. We got two big plates of BBQ and a couple of sodas for under 25 bucks. We've paid almost double that at other local places for less quality bbq. We will come back for sure. This is the place we are going to take family when they come visit to show off great local BBQ.

On our way to see family and friends and I put Q's on this list of places to check out. This was also the first time our friends had been there and none of us were disappointed. Service was warm and welcoming. It's a place you'll want to return to often!

Question: How have they won so many awards at so many competitions if their BBQ is not good?? This BBQ is delicious! You can't focus on the decor or location, it's the food that counts. And yes, it is decorated with trophies and awards, and I think that's the best place to display them! I have always gotten the pulled BBQ sandwich and usually the mac and cheese, which tastes homemade to me, not like Velveeta at all as one reviewer said! My boyfriend usually gets a sample platter with brisket, chicken, etc. and the greens which he loves! I say definitely give it a try....after all, they were featured on the food network!

My husband (fiance at the time) and I found Q BBQ when visiting Richmond searching for the best barbecue for our rehearsal dinner for our wedding. For this event, we wanted to spend time with family and friends in a relaxed atmosphere with terrific food. The food at Q BBQ is exceptional. Not only is the pulled pork tender with complex, full-bodied flavor, but the pulled chicken is mind-blowing. Tender, flavorful, perfectly pulled.... And the variety of sauces complement the meat perfectly. We tried Buzz and Ned's after hearing about it over and over, and I must say that it was hugely disappointing. Our guests raved about the catered meal provided by Q BBQ. Pulled pork and pulled chicken sandwiches with cole slaw? I've never eaten anything better. All the guests I spoke with agreed. If you visit Richmond, this restaurant is a must-eat!

It's all great here from the brisket, ribs, and pulled pork to the hush puppies, onion rings, and beans. We met some family here for lunch while visiting in the area. A definite place to revisit next time we are there.

Delicious!!! While visiting family, we ordered out from Q and it was a such a great decision. I had the pulled pork sandwich with Cole slaw on top and it was very tasty. The hush puppies were also pretty amazing. I am not a fan of the corn pudding but then it was the first time that I had it and it makes me think of rice pudding (i know... its completely different). Anyway, i ate a ton and could hardly move afterwards. It's a winner in my book.

Q barbecue met all our expectations and more. Everything was moist, delicious and served with a smile! Everything was cooked to perfection. Savored the most moist barbecue ever, delicately battered hush puppies and great rolls.

Very good - I have now tried all the meat varieties and all were very tasty. Location and atmosphere are so-so, but those are not really why you eat at BBQ place. Buzz & Ned's will always be my favorite, but you can't really have too many good sources of BBQ. I hope all the Pitmasters hype doesn't affect the quality...

Simply fantastic BQQ. On top of that, the service is efficient, their sides are yummy, and the owner is working onsite. What's not to love?

I've been for lunch a couple times, the portions are an okay size but a little small for the price. Don't get me wrong...the BBQ is very tasty, I just wish there was more for the price.

Absolute disappointment. The Panera of BBQ. I've made better barbeque in a Crock Pot with Coke and ketchup (recipe available upon request). I'm not sure how they have won awards. I strongly recommend Ronnie's or Buzz and Ned's instead.

For BBQ lovers, Q's is the best around. I'm typically the only one in my family who likes BBQ, but whenever I recommend we go to Q's to eat - no one complains! From their brisket (my favorite), to ribs, we have never had a bad meal at Q's.

Richmond has a good amount of BBQ places, but most are just so, so. Q is about as good as it gets. The BBQ is never dry and always has a great smokey flavor. The pork, chicken and brisket are all perfectly moist and tender. Like real smoked BBQ, the meat is served without sauce and easily can be eaten without, due to the amazing flavor. Thankfully, the meat is not served sliced or minced like some places in the area that are hiding the low quality of their smoking techniques. I have only tried the ribs once, but they were great. They have three different sauces on the table and all are a bit too similar. If Q has one area they are not perfect at, it would be the sauces. Now that being said, the sauces are perfectly good and are quite tasty. I have eaten at plenty of BBQ places that either don't let you control your sauce or they are just plain nasty. Q's sauces may not be out of this world, but they are good. As good as the meat has to be, if the sides are not good, eating BBQ is just not worth it. And Q also shines in this department. They have a great variety including a few not often seen in the Richmond area. The hush puppies are quite tasty, possibly a bit large, but better than most. The pineapple hot dish, corn pudding and onion rings are all fantastic. I have found the service always friendly. After ordering the food up front they bring it to your table. Definitely the best BBQ in Richmond and I have eaten at all the supposed "best" places.
