It's hard to come by good Chinese food in Richmond let alone Midlothian but this is the one spot that is my go to spot. My son and I eat here every 3 or 4 months. Good quite atmosphere the server/owner is very attentive and the food is very good. We always go for the steamed dumpling for apps and my son has the chicken and broccoli. I go with the sesame chicken (extra crispy) I rarely have a complaint about this place except for maybe the bathroom but hey its a bathroom and people are here for the food not the toilet right? Right. The prices are moderate and very affordable I strongly suggest this place if your in the area.

This place is overpriced, but I lived about a mile away and most of the restaurants in the area are mediocre. The hot and sour soup here is better than other places; there's a lot of meat in the broth, and they give you plenty of crunchy noodles (which aren't always fresh, unfortunately). I've ordered 6 egg rolls from here before but I could really just get them anywhere else for cheaper. For the prices they charge, you'd expect to at least feel like you're not eating at the mall food court, but that's my general impression of this place. Lunch combos are slightly better value for what you get, but the food is still pretty whatever.

It was ok. Came in for lunch & the prices are great $6.45 for a combo that includes a spring roll & rice or soup with your entree of choice. They have crispy fried wonton strips with a sweet duck sauce to dip in while you wait for your food. The spring roll was nice & crisp but once the entree arrived I was served a dark brown very dry rice with 3 peas in it. It had a strange taste and I'm not sure if it was over done or drenched in soy sauce. I ordered sweet & sour chicken which had a lot of breading on it & not very much chicken inside. They were very skimpy with the sweet & sour sauce, giving me about half a cup. The staff was friendly but didn't speak a lot of English. When my friend asked if she could sub either chow mein or low mein for the rice the server didn't understand her question & someone who I'm guessing was the manager finally came over and said no. Not the best experience.

Overpriced, greasy, awful tasting Chinese food. Also takes forever to prepare the food! Go down the street to a takeout place on the corner of Old Hundred and Genito. Much better food, less expensive, and family owned for years!! Never wasting my money here again!

Scrumptious Chinese food on the pricey side. This place isn't extremely expensive but for informal Chinese food it is in the upper 1/3 of prices. This place has my favorite fried rice - they put the right amount of onions and peas in the rice to make it delicious all around. Our favorite items are: Orange chicken (this is my favorite place to get this item in 10 mile area); Pork fried rice (favorite place in all of Richmond for this item); Duck (expensive but plentiful - watch out it can be overcooked occasionally) Hot and sour soup (overpriced but a quality item) Egg drop soup (overprice but a quality item) Depending on our work schedule we either pick-up Chinese from Yen Ching on the way back home or order from Fortune Bowl for delivery. I think this place is comparable to Yen Ching. I live close to the Fortune Bowl and they delivery very quickly - I can't comment on how they would deliver if you live outside of Brandermill. If you live in this area they have wonderful free delivery and the food comes nice and hot. They aren't afraid to put meat in things so if you are a vegetarian make sure to ask that they leave it out or if specific items have meat in them. This place is much nicer than the choke and puke cheap Chinese restaurant in the Food Lion's shopping complex Chang Sheng. You want a cheaper place you can go to Change Sheng but you will get exactly what you pay for (maybe a little less than you bargained for in quality but they make up for it in quantity).

I've been to the Big Three in this area: Yen Ching, Fortune Bowl, and Lin's. All are great, but for the price Fortune Bowl wins the gold medal. In my humble opinion, For about $7.00 I can get Sesame Chicken with rice and a spring roll (not the big fat one, the skinny melt-in-your-mouth one...and I have had homemade rolls by a freaking Thai grandmother...not as good as hers, but close for a restaurant - BAM!). The amount of food was enormous for lunch, the chicken pieces were huge with minimal breading and lot's of meat. Not overdone and gristly like some places. Rice is pretty standard (because if a Chinese restaurant can't cook rice right...well that's just insane). Just for fun I ordered the same thing from all three over the last few weeks and Fortune Bowl gets my Yelp love.

I was hungry and it was late and they delivered. Regardless of the other reviews it was fast and yummy! I had gen tsaos spicy and the combination lo mein. Fresh and tasty! They didn't ignore my SPICY request like many places do. Egg roll was ok, I did ask for 2 but only got one. It was cheap and I had enough for 3 meals!

Had the chicken and asparagus "special", it was not good. I've been here before, very unimpressive. Will not return.

Unfortunately the quality of the food has declined over the years. Food that was served was not fresh and the Gen Toas Chicken was over cooked and chewy leaving me wonder how old it was. Family has decided to stop going or ordering from the place... Too bad

Food is absolutely delicious...everything you want in Americanized Chinese cuisine. The service, however, is very questionable. 1. The owners have a young child they care for & she and some of the older teenage family members are always in the restaurant playing. (I didn't think this was a big deal until I noticed the child's pampers, wipes, and other baby permanently stored on 1 of the tables in the main dining area. 2. I watched the server retrieve my "to-go" box with his unwashed hands (he had just prepared someone's ticket) by grabbing it from the inside. Yuck! 3. My husband left our takeout meal there one night because upon driving up one of the teenage boys was standing at a table lifting his shirt up to show the others in the restaurant his front side...um, not proper food service etiquette. Prices are great. Food is great. But cleanliness is very important to me. If you are the same, don't bother.

We got takeout and the quality of the food was good, packaged nicely and portion size was good. We like spicy foods, so next time we will ask them to spice it up. Otherwise, it was great and we will return.

Ate lunch here and Fortune Bowl is a good Chinese restaurant all around. Lunch was what one would expect for a relatively cheap Chinese lunch. For lunch you should not be disappointed. Nicer than most Chinese restaurants with newer furnishings and a attentive wait staff.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
