Stonewall Jackson Inn was more than I could have asked for! Unknowingly my then boyfriend and now fiancee had been speaking with Wayne for a month or so to plan the perfect proposal weekend and they did that and more! Wayne helped him plan a romantic massage accompanied with champagne and roses. I walked in to the room and there were chocolates waiting for me too! Whatever you want, Stonewall Jackson will make it happen! The inn keepers the weekend we visited were Bob and Renee and they were a pleasure! So sweet. The breakfast was amazing too! The location of Stonewall Jackson Inn is wonderful. You are close to downtown, restaurants and wineries. The membership card gets you a lot of good deals in the area too! All in all, I would recommend this Inn to every and anyone! I loved it and I will definitely be back.

Place was great! Staff was very friendly but not overbearing. We felt very welcomed and knew our business was appreciated. Every day there were fresh baked goods in the kitchen for us. It was really refreshing that the kitchen was open to guests. This is not always the case in B&B's. We stayed in the Stonewall Jackson suite which had its own fridge and microwave. Great for leftovers so we could go out for lunch or just reheat our delicious leftovers. The 2 breakfast selections were amazing and the service was super friendly and attentive. Great staff, great location, and the most comfortable bed I have ever slept in. Will be back!!

The SJI is everything a B&B is supposed to be; great neighborhood, historic old building, eager to please staff, good food, and kitchen privileges. All the great stuff you may have read about the place is true and there's very little that can be added. The Stonewall Jackson Inn would easily have my five stars were it not for the "unnamed competitor" down the street and 'round the corner. That Old Proud Beauty long-ago earned that distinction in my travel weary heart. However, that could all change very soon if rumors are true that "the unnamed competitor" is soon to be sold and come under new management. The very reason I signed in in at the the SJI was because the other place was unavailable, "until after the new owners, decided what they were going to do". Fortunately, This may have forced me into a good experience. The Stonewall Jackson Inn is a great place, run by great people, in a great town, in a great part of the Shenandoah. It's just that staying here makes me feel like a married man running around during the separation stage of an unwanted divorce. Giving it a five star rating? Well, it's just too soon. -Ranzo-

This was our first experience at a B&B and my 9 year old daughter fell in love with the room. The owners were so welcoming and made you feel at home Great place to stay for a family, business or romantic getaway.

My husband and I stayed here a few weeks ago to save ourselves a trip back to NoVA at night. It was our first visit and we really enjoyed ourselves. When we arrived, Jonathan greeted us warmly at the door. The first thing he told us was that he'd be giving us a room upgrade at no extra charge to us to accommodate an older couple who needed a room on the first floor. Um, no complaints here and happy to help! We had made our reservation at the last minute a few weeks prior - the place was nearly booked - so this was a definite bonus. We sat down with Jonathan after we arrived to go over all the details of our stay, and he confirmed my husband's food allergies, which was definitely appreciated. Despite having 9 rooms, the inn was quiet and we slept soundly. Oh, and the sheets. THE SHEETS. I cannot rave enough about the sheets - they were like sleeping on silk. I've stayed in some pretty nice hotels & B&Bs and I have never, ever experienced sheets like these. I know it sounds strange, but you wouldn't believe the difference they made. Breakfast the next morning was excellent - Wayne, the owner, prepared Eggs Benedict and it was terrific. He provided us the choice of Virginia ham, prosciutto, and salmon. My husband chose the prosciutto and I chose the ham. I loved the dill hollendaise and the eggs were perfectly poached. The dish was incredibly filling. It was a beautiful morning, so we had the pleasure of dining on the back porch. When we left, it was as if family was leaving - Wayne & Jonathan were just THAT warm and welcoming. Thank you so much for such a lovely stay.

Stayed 3 nights over a long holiday weekend. Rooms are cozy and beds and linens are comfortable though the bed frame and pillows aren't the best. Breakfast was excellent. The staff was newish so a little scattered but otherwise professional. The owner Wayne was hospitable. The grounds and location were perfect making hikes in the nearby mountains very accessible. I added the in room massage, a first for me, and was very pleasantly surprised at the reasonable rates and quality professional service though he was over an hour late. Overall, great weekend!

Booked two nights at SWJ during trip to Va... Arrived and walked into house and no AC- geeze only 93 outside- assured rooms had individual temp control! Rooms were small but tidy- young lady we met upon check in was perky and polite! Asked if any dietary issues And explained...she didn't understand my dietary needs... 130 year old house equals super creepy. Not feeling it... We decided to check out and head to a less creepy-haunted,cooler hotel ! We left a quick note and my husband phoned the inn first thing the next morning! Wayne just couldn't believe we felt uncomfortable... I think he put on his psychology hat and was asking a lot of questions wondering of something happened. Guess he wanted more stories to tell! The part that has annoyed me most is we were more than willing to pay for one night but feel we deserved A credit for second night! Nope "policies " didn't allow for this and I received like $40 bucks refund after all the rules and stipulations... Seems good business would have been " I'm terribly sorry you weren't comfortable here and by all means a full refund for one night"

I had a massage with Andrey and it was beyond words... When you are here book a message too! You will not regret it!

I stayed in hotels as part of my career for forty years...three to seven nights a week...every week... In all those forty years, I stayed in a B and B, maybe six times...and never when I had a choice.....As in a remote Chinese village...no hotel for a thousand miles... For me, hotels were hard enough to stomach...I was travelling for business, wanted to be left alone....I wasn't there for fun...hated being away from home... Then I retired...and don't have to stay in hotels...bought an rv so I could carry my own bed with me... a bit unwieldy for the picturesque, long-and-winding, country road... Avoiding hotels puts B and B's even further down the list...hadn't stayed in one since China......They were just too much of a crap shoot...cats (I'm allergic).....feet smell in every room.....dust measured in inches....owners' bad breath, invasive questions and dry eggs...I don't even like staying at friends' houses, let alone strangers'...... Then came the Stonewall Jackson....the wedding of an old friend's daughter, and another old friend making the rez for all of us.....and I'm hooked.... This is one of those magical locations where the balance between great service and invasively friendly is struck perfectly. Wayne, Paul, Candace and the Jackson have turned me around....I loved my stay...it was all I needed in a hotel, without having to deal with the usual hotel issues....like a front-desk staff that has never been inside a guest room...and could care less.... In fact, the Jackson felt like my magical week on a chartered yacht... They never say "no"..... You've read the other stellar reviews. What I can add is simply that, a person who hates hotels, and wouldn't even consider B and B's will, from this day forward, scour Yelp and Trip-advisor in search the Stonewall Jackson experience wherever he travels...... Anyone interested in a nice 36 foot Winnebago?

My boyfriend and I recently spent the weekend at the Stonewall Jackson Inn, to celebrate my birthday. I had no idea where we were going until we arrived and I could not have been more thrilled or surprised! We were greeted at the door by Jonathan, who could not have been more pleasant, friendly and welcoming, even wishing me a happy birthday! He gave us a tour and provided us with many neat facts and details about the house. He immediately recommended a spot for dinner that night (Clementine Cafe) and made us reservations for the following night at Local Chop & Grill House. Both were incredible - great food & service, particularly Local Chop. The Inn has developed great partnerships with the local businesses and restaurants, and we received a free dessert at each of our meals, as well as a free tasting at Bluestone a Vineyard - just for being guests! Everyone immediately smiled when we said where we were staying, and said "Wayne must have sent you." Wayne, the owner, is just as warm and welcoming as Jonathan - it's clear why his business is successful! We stayed in the Stonewall Jackson Suite, which was spacious, comfortable and clean - the king bed was one of the most comfortable I have ever slept in! Breakfast each morning was absolutely incredible - croissant French toast one morning, Wayne's eggs Benedict the next. The sunny porch is a perfect place to eat and start the day, while enjoying a chat with Jonathan & Wayne. Guests have access to a fridge in the kitchen, stocked with sodas and bottled water, which was a nice little touch. The property is beautiful and we enjoyed sitting in the gazebo area out front. Overall, our weekend in Harrisonburg and stay at the Stonewall Jackson Inn were incredible, and we hope to return in the future. It was truly like staying with friends!

We had a pleasant stay and the employees are all very nice and gracious. I give 2.5 stars because we've had better experiences in B&Bs. Rooms are tidy, clean and comfortable. I will say it feels more like a hostel or hotel-light because of the amount of people staying there (there are 9 rooms). Lots of constant inflow/outflow of people and employees seem a little preoccupied to do their next thing. Our stay was a bit of a disappointment from the expectations we had after reading some of the Yelp reviews. I specifically read how others noted the attention to detail that was paid but we didn't see it. My wife's dietary requests as written in the online pre-stay questionnaire were noted in a follow-up email but then they were somehow not aware or did not pay attention to them during our stay. Not a huge deal but it's the little things. Again, this is probably due to the volume of guests.

The Stonewall Jackson surpassed every expectation I had for a bed & breakfast. My initial reservation was promptly followed by a personal welcome e-mail from Wayne, the owner himself. The extraordinary customer service began immediately. As we pulled up we were waved at by Johnny and Cassandra, who welcomed us, helped us with our bags, and checked us in. They both were extremely helpful, friendly, and professional. Johnny even helped my fiancé with printing some last minute documents he needed for his interview the next day. The inn itself is a nineteenth century historic home situated just a few blocks from downtown Harrisonburg, VA. It is impeccably clean and comfortable without seeming pretentious. And the people who work here are so warm and friendly you feel as if you are staying with family. I asked Candace and Paul, the innkeepers on staff that night, where the nearest drug store was because Jorden forgot his razor. When we walked back from dinner there was a disposable razor in our room. The second evening Paul knocked on our door to bring us strawberries and chocolates. In the evenings, we visited with Johnny and Cassandra, Candace and Paul, and another guest outside on the patio and enjoyed the warm weather and great company. And then there was breakfast prepared by the innkeepers, Paul and Candace. Amazing. Salmon eggs benedict with dill hollandaise sauce one morning and croissant French toast the next morning. No shortage of juice and tea and wonderful fruit, yogurt, and granola parfaits. Incredible. The owner, Wayne, visited with us as he poured my fiancé's coffee and gave us hiking trail suggestions for the day. I told my fiancé. "I never want to stay in a hotel again. This was awesome." The human element really made our stay. Cassandra, Johnny, Candace, Paul, and the owner, Wayne were all absolutely stellar; professional, attentive, friendly, and so nice. They all came out of the kitchen to see us off when we left and thanked us for coming. My fiancé and I will be talking about this amazing experience for years to come. We will definitely be back to the Stonewall Jackson. Stay at this bed & breakfast. You will not regret it.

I wish there was the ability to give 4 1/2 stars. The location of the Inn is perfect. Centrally located to all of the fun activities in the region. There is a new young couple running the day to day. They are friendly, professional and fun. The breakfast was delicious! Locally made prosciutto...YUM!! When we arrived, the couple answered the door with warm chocolate chip cookies. Our kids absolutely loved that. The rooms are clean and cozy. The only thing that dropped my rating was the bathrooms. The showers were quite small and there was no bath tub for our small children. I will definitely stay there again when I am in that part of the country. That is an easy choice.

The accommodations were wonderful, the staff is exceptional. Make sure to get a hug from Wayne, the owner.

As good as it gets! We arrived to SJ Inn a bit late in the evening for an overnight stay and I truly enjoyed every single minute of it. The cozy atmosphere and tremendous hospitality are without pair. We were there to celebrate a birthday and Wayne, Jonathan, Julie and crew went out of their way to make sure all the details were in place upon arrival. I requested a birthday cake in lieu of the dozen roses for the bedroom and a delicious personalized cake awaited us along with a bottle of wine and amazing truffles. They even accommodated a small pet at a minute's notice. The full-body massage was extremely relaxing and Andrej was very professional and friendly throughout. The breakfast was yummy and the atmosphere in their patio was so welcoming. A word of advice: do get a package deal when you go there, it's totally worth it. They take great care of you and make sure you feel comfortable with the entire experience even before you get there. The packages normally include dinner in town at one of Harrisonburg's downtown restaurants, just a few minutes away. I wish we had more time to enjoy our visit and stay. It seemed to go by so fast, but that just shows how special this place is.
