Awesome gem in the heart of downtown Hampton. I love this place so much! I love good drinks, great food and a cool vibe and Venture delivers on all accounts. The bartender was super friendly and knowledgeable which is always a plus. He also had great knowledge of the menu! I ordered a martini and (3) tapas plates. I had the beef empanadas, crispy pork belly w/fried apples and the pimento cheese. Everything was out of this world good! Plates came out fast and hot and literally prepared to perfection! I am moving out of the area in a few weeks and I'm kicking myself that I didn't discover this place sooner. Do yourself a favor and run don't walk to Venture Kitchen!!!

This is my favorite place EVER to stumble home from after a night out drinking! Inventive and fresh cocktails paired with a personal-size gourmet pizza menu and select rotating tapas offerings delight the casual observer! My personal recommendation remains the "El Diablo", a succulent concoction composed of 100% agave Lunazul Reposado tequila, crime de cassis, Gosling's ginger beer and lime...Jeebus, I can drink that stuff ALL DAY LONG. Day drinking for the win! The waitstaff is sweet, but the bar staff is outstanding and personable. I sit at the bar when I can! Nice beer list with some breadth to it...and the brunch is a must-try! Breakfast pizza, yes!!!!!

I tend to get long-winded so I am just going to lay it out - Mark Beyer was fantastic to deal with in helping me plan my best friend's 30th birthday. The back party room is nice. If I could offer up anything, it would be to have it cleaned as it was a bit dusty and the floor just needs a really good clean/shine. But, it's an awesome space with great lighting and beautiful tables. Loved it. I preordered the tapas and entrees for our party of about 18. I provided a seating chart and diagram to help the server with placement of the food. It all went by pretty flawless. The tapas were incredible and everyone raved about the food. We had also eaten there a couple nights before the party to taste the food and make sure all was a "go". Everything was just a delight to eat and our server both times - Page - she's really an asset to this restaurant. I hope to be here many more tens of times and bring many more friends to sample the eats here. Can't say enough great things about it!!

Had the tater tots and a fondue appetizer! Both were delicious but tater tots were especially delicious!! Bbq chicken pizza was great as was the prosciutto and mushroom pizza! Definitely recommend going to this restaurant.

I am a big fan of this place. I wish I could give it 5 stars but unfortunately, we went on a Saturday night, sat at the bar and ordered the tots (delicious!) and two pizzas. We received our tots pretty quickly. However, it took close to an hour to receive our pizzas. Not sure if the kitchen was packed or if our order was put in late. The pizzas were good.

Venture represents everything I hope Downtown Hampton will become. Places like Taphouse and Marker 20 are fine and serve a purpose, but they remind me too much of college drinking holes. There's no bouncer at the door with a hand-stamp checking ideas at Venture. They have an eclectic drink and food menu. And best of all the service is really friendly and unpretentious. My friend and I ventured out to Venture on a Friday night. They were too busy for us to grab a table, so we found 2 seats at the bar. Our bartenders were attentive and friendly. They offered suggestions from their creative cocktail menu. We had the house cocktail "the Venture" and "the Scientist." Both tasted great. They also have a diverse selection of craft beers on tap and in bottle. I had an IPA that went down quick. Their beer and cocktail menu changes frequently as they experiment and discover new beverages. I think that keeps the bar fresh. I can't wait to go back in a few weeks and try something new. The food was excellent. They make home-made pizzas in a brick-lined oven. We shared a Hampton Hawaiian pizza: Smithfield Ham, lump crab and pineapple. Delicious. Be careful though, Virginia ham isn't for everyone. Some are turned off by the saltiness and that is definitely present with this pizza. One pizza was plenty for 2 adults. The meatballs (glazed in a sweet chili sauce) and the tempura broccoli were great shareable appetizers (or tapas as the hipsters say). I saw their homemade breadsticks walk by to another party and made a mental note to order those next time... In addition to the meatballs and fried veggies. Overall, I have very few complaints. Venture isn't perfect, but the night we went they came damn close. We'll be returning again and again. I hope they inspire other creative foodies to open up shop Downtown as well.

With the ugly traffic coming from Virginia Beach on a Friday afternoon (in August mind you), we weren't so lucky to make it to Venture Kitchen for lunch. We were fortunate however to enjoy tapas for the first time. WOW! is all I kept saying during the whole meal. We ordered the famous tots, fried tomatillos, Puerto Rican empanadas, and the crispy pork belly. These are the most popular items on the menu and understandably so!!

I made a quick stop in Venture Kitchen to grab a quick bite during the Downtown Hampton Block Party this weekend. The food was really good! I had the pork meatballs with Thai sweet chili sauce, blueberry bread pudding, and a couple of specialty alcoholic drinks. Service was great (and quick)! I was in and out in 30 minutes. I didn't miss any of the Block Party. I definitely going to have to go back to try one of there signature pizza.

Stiff drinks, $4 happy hour on specific cocktails M - F's. As everyone else has stated the Crispy Pork Belly with fried apples tapas is excellent, $6. Crispy Duck $9 special was very good. Light serving, but enough. Price was great for duck but if you are looking for a big meal this is not for you. Wife had Sam's Pie pizza... Which was a pesto pizza with chicken, bacon & mushrooms... Perfect for just her at $12. It's a thin pizza, not quite flatbread. Wasn't to my liking and $12 was a bit steep for what it was. I'll have to try another pizza... It's the only thing that gives it a 4 star. Will definitely come back and I could see it getting to 5 stars.

I've heard good things about very few restaurants on the peninsula. And I hate that. I hate having to cross the dreaded Hampton Roads Bridge Tunnel if we want to have a really good meal. But, that's life. We could move to the other side of the bridge, but then we'd both have to cross the bridge daily to come to work. Right now, we only cross it when we want to. Like when we go out to eat or want to go to the beach. Anyways. One of the restaurants I constantly hear good things about is Venture Kitchen and Bar in Hampton. I'm off on Fridays, and G took a half day on Friday since his parents were coming to town. Since we had a few hours to kill before their arrival, we decided to go have lunch, and I picked Venture. And I am so, so glad I did. Their menu is not large, but it is diverse and full of interesting options. For lunch, our options were one of their brick oven fired pizzas, several sandwiches, and salads (for the dinner menu they take off the sandwiches and offer a decent variety of small plates). They also offer an impressive bar menu, including a pretty awesome cocktail list. We were starving, and the only small plate/appetizer they offer during lunch is their house-made tots, so we went with those. And oh my gosh, I'm glad we did. I don't think it's an exaggeration to say that these tots were one of the best things I have ever eaten. Ever. The tots were made from cooked potatoes, shaped into cubes and fried. The texture of these bad boys was amazing. The insides were soft and fluffy, and the outside was perfectly crispy. They were served with spicy mayo (which I didn't touch, since I loathe mayo), but these were amazing. I wasn't really feeling pizza for lunch, so I went with their daily salad special. It was a shrimp couscous salad (lemon garlic sautéed gulf shrimp on a bed of arugula and couscous with tomato and feta). Y'all. This was good. Really, really good. The shrimp were amazing. They were large, perfectly cooked and had so much flavor. The couscous was delicious, I just wish it had larger chunks of tomato, instead of the microscopic pieces that were there. I do wish the arugula had been tossed in some type of vinaigrette. It definitely needed something... I'm going to recreate this at home in the near future, and that will be the main change that I make. G ordered the meatball bahn-mi (braised pork meatballs, pickled carrot, cilantro, jalapeño, bean sprouts, & fresh mayo on a crusty roll), and it was delicious. It was served with more tots (yay!) and had tons of flavor. I loved that they sliced the meatballs in half. The meatballs having a flat side made the sandwich much easier to eat. All of the flavors worked so well together and it was really, really good. Our meal here was excellent. Every component of it was. The food was delicious. The service was great. She was available, but not overbearing and pleasant. The prices were very reasonable. The salad I had was $11 and G's sandwich was $8. I cannot wait to go back in the near future for dinner (and cocktails) or Sunday brunch (and cocktails).

Went there for the first time at around 1p. And I must say I was both happy with the food and the service. My brother and I had a good time there. We ordered the everybody's pizza and the roast beef on arugla and it was very good and fresh I was very well pleased.

This place is perfect for the downtown Hampton area. Tapas and personal pizzas- you wouldn't think they go together but it works. Tapas: Port Win Fondue- on point, it is delicious! They serve the fondue with toasted bread, can't get any better than that. The meatballs had a Thai flair to them and they were delicious, not always a fan of pork meatballs. The white bean hummus was great as well! Keep meaning to try the tots but I haven't yet to be continued... Pizza: Bruschetta Pizza is a white pizza and its amazing. The Balsamic glaze does the trick. My husband got the Mediterranean pizza and loved it as well. Salads: Thai Chicken wedge. Too much flavor going on there and did not like the spicy peanuts. Not a horrible salad but not the best. Drinks: This place has awesome cocktails and drink specials! I had their special drink for the weekend, a strawberry, basil and balsamic mixture- I know doesn't sound good but it was great. Overall great ambiance and good food and drinks. Love it here!

The place is hip and is chef inspired. Don't be taken back by their pizza focused menu. They have chef inspired daily specials, amazing drinks, good shareable appetizers and was a wait to get in. 4stars for effort and can't wait to come back. Everything is made to order. They opened up the "back room" ideal for groups but far from the hipster gastro esq pub that the front of house resembles. The location is in downtown Hampton. A urban old Towne chic that caters to some of foodies of the peninsula for years. All of the restaurants down here are stellar which is presumedly how they stay in business since its fickle location. Back to the restaurant. Hot apps were potatoes which were amazing and garlic bread which was a flat bread type. Still amazing. The use of olive oil truly brought out the flavor of the other rustic Italian spices making it much tastier than the like. Pizzas are there thing here. Hand tosses. Premium toppings. This isn't your local chain store. It's really good. And for a elevated cheap date. Buy some drinks and split a pizza. And it's on point, sexy, and cool. I went for the special. A orange beef with some rice. Well flavored, bulgogi style which was unexpected. Others got pizza. And the other got the chicken special. Baked to perfection with a lovely gravy. I think what makes this place great is the chef designed menu and ever changing specials. If come back each day just to try the new item knowing that if nothing was appeasing a pie and a drink would be expertly sufficient. I also want to try their brunch soon. I wonder how clever those flavor points can taste. This is a true yelpers spot. Enjoy food lovers.

I have visited Venture kitchen a few times since moving to Hampton in late August. The food is always good and the menu is creative. I enjoy the atmosphere and in the past I have enjoyed the staff. However, recently I visited and sat at the bar. Upon sitting at the bar I was half heartedly greeted by a bartender I asked for a red bull energy drink the bartender informed me that they don't serve redbull or any other energy drink. I noticed a guy at the bar drinking a red bull and I asked about that. She said he is staff and allowed to bring his own. I asked if I could go next door and buy one and bring it back and she replied, "No, he is staff and has special privilege. You are a customer and can not bring out side drinks in" I will keep my unprivileged money and business and never return.

"Meh. I've experienced better." = 2 stars That sums up my experiences here. Ive been here 3 times and come away with the same feeling. I want to like it. It's a nice looking place and the menu items sound great. But, each time I lament the fact that I passed by so many other known decent places just to come here. I've ordered drinks here twice. One was a bit orangey and the other was champagney. Both weren't good... they weren't so awful that I couldn't drink them, but I didn't enjoy them. That's rare. I've had tots here, a chicken & pork belly chowder, corned beef hash during their brunch, and a veggie sandwich. The tots are good, but there's not much to them as far as flavor. They're like french fries with a lot of soft potato filling (like lightly mashed potatoes) and salt and oil. Nothing wrong with that except that I got bored eating them and realized that I was eating for completion instead of enjoyment. The chowder was actually very difficult to finish. It was like drinking sharp cheddar soup with texture (from the indiscernible meats and some potatoes). Too much of one very strong flavor and nothing else. Unfortunately, paired with the tots it was an odd and yet boring meal that took some effort to finish. I tasted my date's salmon sandwich (it was a special that day) and the we talked about it a little. We both agreed that it just tasted like fishy salmon and was boring. There was nothing else going on. He'll eat just about anything-and a lot of it- but this, he couldn't finish. The portions aren't large, but once we weren't starving it wasn't worth continuing to move our mouths to finish the rest of the food. When I went for brunch it was busy. Luckily we got there as another couple left, so we were able to have their table. This is when I had the corned beef hash. It's those tots with beef chucks that taste like they're prepared just like the tots. So, cubed & fried beef chunks with cubed and fried tots and the occasional small deep fried fleck of what used to be a piece of onion. It was a pile of dry-looking greasy brown cubes. It didn't look appetizing. But, it wasn't bad. It was more like bar food than brunch food and I did get tired of eating it (no seasoning, no flavor, just texture), but it wasn't bad. It was "meh." The veggies sandwich that I had on a different occasion was pretty much the same experience. So, for me, the food has consistently been "Meh." Maybe this would be an okay happy hour place, but I haven't liked the drinks that I've had so far (except for that one Caparihina-very misspelled, I know) Now, the service has been *meh" also. That kind of sucks considering the prices aren't "meh," at all. Service, all three times (two different servers), could've been quicker and was lukewarm. Whenever I've had to ask a server for something (like a container for my to-go sauce), I've definitely felt like I'm putting them out. The last time I went, my chowder and tots came out warm (not hot). So, a solid 2 even though I really wanted to go higher because I like the look of the place and I remember Brent's (the former tenant) fondly. **One last thing that so many businesses are consistently guilty of doing: That sauce container thing. *lol* If I'm taking something home that comes with dipping sauce and you don't' give me a container for the sauce, you realize that it inconveniences me to have to wait for you to come back around so I can ask you for that container, and then wait for the container... I mean, it's the end of the meal and I'm packing up to go. Do you want me to just take the container that you originally brought to the table? C'mon, dude! It's my pet peeve and everybody does it, so I didn't even factor it into the rating. But, sheesh! :p**

Randomly stumbled upon Venture while I was yelping for Tapas restaurants around the Newport News/Hampton area, and I am so glad I did. Fellow yelpers did not steer me wrong! Found it yesterday, went to brunch today. Venture is in downtown Hampton, a really cute area to walk around and surrounded by other restaurants. My friends and I came around 10:00 am, and there was plenty of parking on the street and the lot near by. I can't say about later on during the day/evening though. I immediately liked Venture when I walked in. The decor was trendy and hip, yet still comforting. I'm a little surprised this place isn't more busy during brunch, but we got our choices of seating. In our small group of 3 we got the breakfast pizza, the corned beef hash, and the fried chicken benedict. The best part? $2 dollar mimosas. $2 DOLLAR MIMOSAS. I don't think it gets much better than that. Although the mimosas aren't as big as Schlesinger's, you're also paying a lot less for an entree (as opposed to a set price for a buffet there). The food was really good. The square tator tots did not let me down. The poached eggs on top of the benedicts were a little under done for my taste, but still good nonetheless. The corned beef hash was not the normal chopped up little pieces of beef with potatoes. This looked a lot better and heartier with chunks of beef, potatoes, and gravy. I can't wait to come back to try tapas and their other cocktails! Seems like a good date spot or just to grab a couple of friends for a good meal to catch up and chill for a little bit.

The good and great. You can seat yourself wherever. The wait service was quick. We got our yummy craft beers quickly. We order the Ommegang Hennepin and Samuel Smith Organic Strawberry. They have a lot of good beers on tap and in the bottle. To eat we order the Crispy pork belly tapas plate and Tots. We also ordered the prosciutto and mushroom pizza and egg plant pizza. The crispy duck would bring me back alone. The tots are house made with a slightly spicy aioli. The pizza was awesome! Best I've had in the entire area. We had 3 beers, 2 apps and 2 pizzas for $56 dollars. Good prices for me. Especially for the quality of the dishes. The bad part. We were seated next to the kitchen. The kitchen staff was "new" according to our waitress and a little slow and seemed to be putting up the wrong orders. The guy in the black coat in the window did a whole lot a chatting and complaining about the way the kitchen/restaurant was ran. Seemed like he was the new chef and wasn't allowed to run his kitchen his way (Who wouldn't be annoyed). Waitresses were a little frustrated also but it didn't seem like the kitchens fault but it seemed like ALL of them were frustrated and a lack of team work. Even with the frustration they were totally professional with us and other patrons. Even rude ones. Loved the food and will be back!!

Sometimes I feel like the whole eclectic "New American" theme is getting a bit worn out, or that some menus go way past creative and into the disjointed and strange. Then there are places like Venture, who strike the right balance between the familiar and trendy. Our first visit was for Sunday brunch, and we're already planning a return for dinner. It's a small space, as is typical for Old Towne, and the interior is clean and bright. None of the worn out tables, chipping paint, or dirty floors you will find a few doors down. The kitchen is open, so you can see your food being made, and the chef and line cooks were very professional. The menu for brunch was limited, as other reviews have said, which should be expected from a place that only does breakfast once a week. The bar also offered creative cocktails beyond the standard mimosas or Bloody Mary. Things like brandy milk and French 75, among others. If you're looking to celebrate they offer a "DIY Mimosa", which features a full bottle of champagne. We ordered the donuts, French toast, scallops and grits, and the brandy milk cocktail. The cocktail reminded me of juiced up egg nog, without the heaviness and thickness that come from egg yolks and cream. It was light and frothy, with plenty of brandy and a hint of nutmeg, and wasn't long in our glass. The five donuts were delicious, but that much fatty sugariness was more than we could power through. We would have been just as happy with an order half the size. Judging by their presence on almost every table - they are definitely a crowd pleaser. The French toast wasn't super thick, which made for a good balance of toast to compote to custard in every bite. The lemon custard was lick your plate good. The only dark spot In our meal was the scallops and grits. I admit that, being S. Carolina girl who grew up just outside of Charleston, finding a perfect seafood and grits dish away from the SC coast is a bit like the holy grail of food for me. The grits themselves were good, stone ground and creamy with enough salt and butter to keep them out of bland territory. They were topped by four scallops that were fat and fresh, but lacked that crispy sear that one hopes for in a well cooked scallop. There was also a forgettable pesto cream sauce, and a pile of diced tomatoes inaccurately billed tomato concasse. The dish wasn't bad by any means, but it wasn't really good either. Just kind of "meh". Those who don't share similar roots might be happier with it than I was. Given the misstep on the priciest dish offered, I only have three stars. If there was a 1/2 star option, it would be 3.5 stars. Overall, we were really happy with our first experience at Venture, and are looking forward to testing out the dinner menu.

Looking for a restaurant that serves a great pie has been difficult to do. Venture opened up and we gave it a try, very happily found a place that does know how to cook a pie. (High temp and a quick cook.) If you want something that is close to a Neo pie, than this place is it. Looking forward to going back. The interior was also nicely done and service was fine. The five stars represent the pizza only, we did not try anything else.

We stopped here today after visiting the VA Air & Space Center. It was an odd/off time, around 2:30 so it was not busy at all. We sat in a booth right by the kitchen but enjoyed being there. It kept my 5 year old busy watching the chef and enjoyed listening to him talk about the evening's specials that they were going to make. We ordered the special pizza, which was called "Buffalo" and special ordered their white pizza but without the carmelized onions and cauliflower for my daughter. We all shared the green apple and pork belly salad. Everything was delicious! I had a mojito that was very strong, so not as 'light' as I would have liked but I enjoyed it. My husband's only complaint was that they were out of a few beers that he wanted to try. My only complaint is that we were too early to order from the tapas menu. If we're ever in Hampton again we'd definitely come back.

Went to make a Togo order on the phone. Website not working showing the pizza options. Asked the Togo server to tell me his 5 favorite pizzas. His response was "I'm too busy to do this". Thanks just lost my business. Coming from the service industry this is just rude!

I've eaten here several times. The place is a beacon of light on the Peninsula. The pizzas are good with a nice crispy crusts. The specialty drinks can be a bit too tame. Vegetarian options are available. The tempura vegetables were dropped from the menu. What a lost. The bathrooms are small too. No bar should have single person bathrooms.

If I could give this place more stars I would. The only thing better than the AMAZING food was the treatment from the staff. Specifically Kara and Mark (?) the bar manager. The Beet-za is a must! The fresh Margarita ranks in my top 5. Do not skip this place. Thank you guys for an amazing lunch

I had the Meatball Bahn Mi and it was delicious. From the toasted bread to the flavorful pork meatballs, the veggies and a hint of spice from the fresh jalapeños, it was great! You can tell they really want to put out good quality and tasty food. I will definitely be back.

Food is really good. Pizza is great, my salad which was an entree was the size of a side salad or tapas salad though. I can only imagine their tapas to be 1 bite per plate. Service is very slow, especially considering there are only two tables in the entire restaurant.

Had a great dinner out on Sunday night. We chose to have Tapas - the Tuna was amazing! Also loved the pork belly with apples, sausage was lamb and blueberry - very good! Great spot, great service and love the daily special options. The Tots wet interesting, but I'll pass next time. Great bar too with many beers from local craft breweries.

I had a great time in Venture. Welcomed by the bar tender and a early arrival was given great service and the food was awesome. The Green Apple and Pork Belly rocks, followed that up with the cheese and sausage Tapas plate. Great food, lively chatter.

Most everything is great about this place, such as staff, atmosphere, and food. My only minor complaint is some of their mixed drinks are not made correctly, which has happened to me several times now. For example: they have made their Aperol spritz drink in a small rocks glass and I feel like I am having a glass of straight Aperol. I don't know if its the small glass size, instead of a wine or highball glass, but it doesn't taste like as a spritz. Or maybe they not adding enough Prosecco or seltzer, who knows. I have had many of this particular drink before and some of their bartenders do not make it correctly. I do like that they are trying to branch out with unexpected drinks though, so I don't want to discourage them from serving them. I wish I could give them 4.5 stars...

We are fans! We have eaten at Venture a number of times (4+) and always go back to their pizzas, which are excellent. My wife always has the beetza and if you never had beets, this is the way to be introduced to them; on a pizza! I have tried many of them and have never been disappointed. Just wish they had one with seafood or something like it. In addition, these guys generally have a great beer selection and a well stocked bar. Having said that, you can still go there with the whole family as well. Yes we are fans!

Venture is my absolute favorite spot in downtown Hampton. It has the best mix of good food and eclectic cocktails. Half of the menu is beer, wine, and cocktails all are very affordable. Some favorites are the basil + honey gimlet or the mojito which is on the sweet side. For $5 live a little on the wild side and try their twist on classic cocktails. The food at Venture is excellent. If you are looking for a big meal you need to wear stretchy pants for this is not the place for you, but if you are looking for smaller plates to order and enjoy with friends over a beer this is the place for you. The prosciutto and mushroom pizza and the magherita pizza are the dankneas and if you arent super hungry try the tots with sriracha aioli or the cheese platter you really wont be sorry in ordering anything here. I have been here several times for dinner, but my next goal is to try Venture for their amazing brunch menu. Follow them on facebook for the daily specials to be totally in the know. Enjoy!

I've been here several times and every time it has been outstanding. Went there for brunch this past Sunday and the food was amazing. Pizza = Yum. Tots = OMG These things are off the chain. Highly recommend stopping by and getting a great meal. You will not be disappointed.

A haven for the foodie! Pork Belly with Apples is a must-have for every visit. Menu changes seasonally which ensures freshness and quality! Come with friends and share everything! The cocktails range from classic to the whimsical but there is no bad choice! Pricing is beyond reasonable. Plan to visit Venture as soon as possible! You will be addicted!

This place is really good. They try very hard to make everything that comes out of the kitchen 5 star and almost everything has been. I did not care for the Port Wine Fondue but I see others like it, maybe that's me. Also one night the Tempura Broccoli pretty much had no batter on them twice (we sent it back so I think it was either batter was mixed improperly or veggies weren't dry) The first time we got them the week before they were PERFECT....but every other item and time I have been it has be great! I love this place! Fun drinks and awesome creative dishes that are great for sharing. The dipping sauce for the Tots should be bottled. The cheese tray awesome the Tuna awesome ! the pizzas are really good and perfect sized for one person or get a few and share. HAMPTON NEEDS THIS RESTAURANT We are extremely lacking in anything creative like this! Support your local NON-chain restaurants. Its a hard business to keep going. PS if you want a dipping sauce container with your to go box ASK for it when asking for the box. Do not make the server read your mind and then be upset when they only bring what you asked for?!

Not great, not bad. The food is reasonably priced and the drinks were good and inexpensive. Roasted veggies were smartly cooked though they could have used a bit more of the balsamic reduction. The pork meatballs had a sauce with a bite, but they were overcooked and hard. A second order of the port wine fondue with grilled bread was ok, but nothing interesting. Perhaps our orders weren't adventuresome enough. Service was attentive and spot on. Worth another try.

I ate here several times for lunch in one week and loved it. The cubed tater tots are incredible and the special "eastern North Carolina barbecue" sandwich was wonderful (and that coming from an eastern NC native who treats barbecue like religion). I also tried the Virginia ham sandwich and it was incredible one day and a bit too salty the next. The salads were the only real low points, asparagus/popcorn salad zany in concept and its execution was just ok and the beet salad was a bit below average. Anyway, the service was great, and much of the food I had (and my companions had) was pretty darn good in a cozy atmosphere if you find yourself in downtown Hampton around lunchtime.

This was a great find on a weekend vacation. Great variety of food and drink. Everything we had was great and reasonably priced. The 5 cheese pizza was great, pork belly with apples was also good as well as the wings. The staff was very nice and we took our 10 year old along and it was a comfortable situation for a kid his age. Would definitely recommend stopping here.

Not bad. Went to the brunch on Sunday and arrived about 12:30. Tried to order a couple different specials and they were out of them. so we ordered our second /and third choice. The corn beef hash. I have had better. The gravy was extremely thick and fatty (some like this type) adn the corned beef extremely salty. The service was not real hot, but the waitress was pleasant and nice. I'll try it again. But first time was not the best.

So good! Shared some tapas to start (Thai meatballs-large and very good & hash browns- not your typical hash browns and came with a yummy sauce) and then each got our own pizza. Pizza was brick oven style and wonderful. The waitress told us they make everything in house from scratch. They have an impressive beer and wine list and we plan on going back again soon.

Meatballs appetizer is excellent and their White Cosmo is high on the Love meter. Casual, intimate venue.

Very bland food! It seems all the effort went into the the look of the decor and menu. Their trying to have a very trendy feel using cheap ingredients. Good beer selection.

We went a second time for lunch. We ordered two pizzas. They came burnt. We returned them. The waitress was pleasant and apologetic. We were sitting with a kitchen view and saw the chef respond in a positive way. He opened the oven to cool it. Then, he scrubbed the oven before making us new pizzas. These were delicious!

The roast beef sandwich is the best sandwich I have ever had in my life. On a return trip I had the margharita pizza, which was also amazing. The crust was crispy yet doughy, the sauce was great. I enjoyed both the red wines I had and the ginger cocktail the bartender recommended. I would recommend sitting at the bar because the bartender is very friendly and attentive, and knowledgeable about food and drink. Prices are reasonable for a tapas-high end restaurant.

I stopped here for lunch with a friend after reading Yelp reviews. Folks, the good reviews are spot on! Upscale interior and tasty food offerings. Server never let our glasses go empty. My only odd comment were the unusual tater tots, however they tasted great. Overall, what a find! I will certainly be back and you should go too.

Went here for pizza during a lunch break and I really loved the area and atmosphere. I'd be back for a date nite or to try other options than the pizza for sure. However, the pizza was extremely delicious!

Had the special of the day which was the pepperoni and jalapeño cheddar grilled cheese with the tots...which were amazing. Kara was a great server, prompt service and always checking on us and there was several others in the restaurant. Dane was doing his thing in the open kitchen so we were able to watch. Great food with some great drinks. Can't wait to come back and enjoy!!!

This place is great. Everything from the bread to the mayo is made from scratch. The meatballs are moist, the pizzas are gourmet. It is refreshing knowing that all the employees really care about the business. The drinks are also great. I've tried a few of the daily specials and they are creative and satisfying. I will be eating here as long as I'm in hampton va. Their sister Restraunt, marker 20, is also great in all aspects.

A perfect reason to return to Downtown Hampton! My first time at Venture. The Root Vegetable Tappas was superb! The pizza with caramelized onion, blue cheese, and mushroom -- outstanding!! And over-the-top? The cucumber lime Mojito! We were offered seating in the back --- wonderful oasis of quiet in the midst of the hustle-bustle of Hampton Street Fest. Cheerful service! We will definitely be back again!!

It's fortunate that this place has fantastic food, because the servers are less than proficient. Good help is hard to find, but I'd venture to say that "okay" help is attainable? Yeah, not really here. We continue to come back because the food really is that good, but it usually takes upwards of 5 minutes plus a request on my part to even get a waitress to our table. Frustrating? Absolutely. Perhaps the owners/managers should consider additional training? Either that or find new staff? Caveat: I'd give them more stars if the service was even "okay"

Just go. You won't be disappointed. It's so nice to find a good, local restaurant. We live in Newport News and it is well worth driving the short distance to Hampton for the good food and atmosphere. Also, the donuts we got at brunch were amazing!

Found this place and yum yum. Warm spinach salad to start with perfectly cooked soft boiled egg. They were out of the duck confit. Bummer but the filet was cooked well tender and very tasty. The seared scallops amazing. And desert a strawberry banana creme Brule. Definitely a place to have a great meal in a relaxed atmosphere

I decided to "venture" out to downtown hampton and try some of the local hot spots. After reviewing the menu for Venture, I was impressed and had to give it a shot. My first order was the Grilled Asparagus. Now, im not normally a fan of goat cheese or salted popcorn, but the combination of the three along with the red onion really brought the dish together. It was nothing but amazing. Now, I love a good pizza. Once I saw the Hampton Hawaiian I made that my choice. Ham, crab, pineapple, it all melts in tour mouth. The dough was perfect, not to thin, but not too doughy. I attempted to eat it all, but had to take the rest with me. And the leftovers did not disappoint. If you're looking for a "casual fine dining" place, I suggest giving Venture a shot. It will not disappoint!

A few friends had talked about Venture, so I knew I had to try it. The food was good but it was nothing spectacular. We went on a Monday night and it was not really busy. The service was not good. We sat at the bar and asked the bartender about some of the beers and he stated he was not knowledgeable on beer. Additionally, the food took an extremely long time. We ordered the cheese plate as an appetizer and it took 45 minutes alone. Pizza and corned beef has came about 20 minutes later, and the server only checked on us once throughout the entire dinner. Again it was a slow night in the restaurant, so we were expecting a little more service. The food was decent, but just average.

Stopped in for late dinner on Friday night...the place was super busy. No one came to greet us at the door, we stood there for at least 10 minutes before the bartender finally came over. Waited quite some time more until a couple seats opened up at the bar. The food was pretty good. We had tots, fried broccoli and the meat-za pizza. The sauce that comes with the tots was pretty good. The unique toppings on the pizza were all quite tasty...but I like my pizza with a little more cheese. They have a great beer selection too. We would come here again, but definitely try to avoid when they are busy!

I stumbled upon Venture while driving around downtown with friends looking for a place to eat (we live in Norfolk). The cheese board was wonderful - definitely the star of our meal. The beer selection was stellar. Venture is sure to be a destination whenever I have occasion to visit Hampton.

  • Jacob O.

I must say this was my girlfriends choice and I was pleasantly surprised! The tots are very good, the cheese board was off the charts. I really enjoyed the pork bellies with apples, but the show stopper was the 5 cheese pizza! The beer selections were plentiful, they actually had Sweet baby Jesus chocolate peanut butter stout on tap! All in all a great find. I will be going back for sure.

Tried this place on a whim and loved it. The pizza, tapas, and cocktails were all excellent (we tried pepperoni, "the everybody" and margherita). This is our new local favorite, get the tots with spicy mayo!

  • Jamie D.

I'm impressed! The pizzas are fantastic...mine had beets, roasted garlic and other yummy things. Oh and the tots! You have to try. These aren't normal tots. In addition to the food, the atmosphere is fantastic. I would give them a try if you are in Hampton!

I was staying across the street on business and went to 3 restaurants on Queens Way. Venture was by far the best. I had their tapas, my friends had the pizza of the day and the bourguignon. I particularly liked the Crispy pork belly tapa. It was all good and service was attentive.

  • Kimber E.

The menu was fun to include the unique drink choice and food combinations. I had the Prosecco (yummo) .They are not a "BIG DINNER" kinda of place so do not expect big portions of one thing. Its basically appetizers and small pizzas which is nice for sampling/sharing. We sat at the bar....the staff was friendly and reviewed the menu signatures and their personal favorites You can see the kitchen from the bar which is kinda cool as you can watch them prepare the food. I had the crisp pork belly & it was amazing! I gave them 4 stars based on the pizza. My husband got the Meat-za Pizza: bacon, pepperoni, pork meatball, beef short rib, tomato sauce, & mozzarella ....however it did not have the flavor I was expecting which may be due to the small amount of the offered meats that were actually on the pizza. The atmosphere was nice and look forward to returning to try new concoctions.

Thirty minutes just to get menus, she messed up our order, she didn't separate our checks correctly, and she charged me for a drink I never got. The food was good, but service was awful!

We chose this brunch place after some great Yelp reviews. Our experience was less "wow" and more "meh". The mimosas were good ($2 a pop) and the brioche donuts were fresh and crispy. I ordered the french toast and my fiance ordered the fried chicken benedict - both just ok but with great plate presentation. However, the wait for our food felt excessive. Granted, it was the Sunday brunch hour but it was not a packed house - I would have thought the wait would be much shorter (to be more definite - we ordered the donuts as an appetizer and it took 50 minutes). Overall, I didn't find the food stellar enough to return for brunch.

Try this place out last night with my wife. Walked in on Wednesday and it was actually pretty full at 6 o'clock. Seating was limited so we can Cozied up to the bar. Pretty good selection of craft beers. We ordered two personal pizzas, the breadsticks and there "must try" tater tots. The pizzas were pretty good but A bit on the pricy side for the size at $11. I didn't much care for the sautéed mushrooms on mine but overall was a good pie. The breadsticks were basically one of their pizzas brushed with some olive oil/rosemary and a touch of cheese. They served it with olive oil and spices dipping plate. Was really good. The star for me was those tots. Basically they were deep fried mashed potatoes in the form of little cubes. I did not like the dipping sauce as it was flavorless but the tots alone were really good. The bartender also was super friendly and helpful. We enjoyed watching her make the weird cocktails they sell there. Was very entertaining. We'll be back!

AWESOME, AWESOME AWESOME! One my favorite places in Hampton roads. I know they have an assortment pizzas but, I highly recommend getting tots or the smoked salmon rillettes(I could eat it everyday).

Husband and I Went here for date night. We are both vegetarian, and finding somewhere unique that fits our diet is often a challenge in this area. I was pleased that the menu labeled vegetarian options clearly with a "V" and that there were plenty of them! Our food was fabulous! The tots, fried broccoli, kale salad & mushroom pizza left us full and happy. The service was exceptional, as well. This is definitely our new favorite restaurant!

    (5)
  • Michele W.

You can't order pizza during their Sunday brunch and their brunch menu is pretty lack luster. If you are a vegetarian you can order French toast without bacon or a breakfast pizza without meat. That's about it.

    (1)
  • Hilary H.

Ate there for brunch this morning and had an excellent time. The fried chicken Benedict, the corn cakes, the French toast, and the biscuits and gravy were all amazing. $2 bloody Mary's and mimosas sealed the deal. The service was a tad slow and the kitchen seemed a bit backed up, but the food was worth the wait.

Awesome! Been here before but once was for a wedding rehearsal dinner and the other was to kill some time waiting for a colleague to get off work This time was for dinner and it was great. Everyone in our party of 7 ordered off the specials menu and everyone was pleased. Service was great, drinks were drink, food was sublime!

My brother-in-law Mike is a sommelier - a trained wine expert. His advice about wine is pretty simple and straightforward, with a couple of guiding rules. #1: if you like it, it's good. #2: when you pay for (quality) wine, you're likely paying for complexity. You might really like Bogle table wines (I do). They're pretty inexpensive at $8 - $15 in Alabama, but pretty reliably tasty. Mike would tell you to soak in the aromas, let you swish the stuff around in your mouth a bit, then ask you what you tasted. You might say, Hm, oak! if you're trying out the pinot noir. Yum. It's a wine for having at a nice dinner where you want to talk with your friends about how the stock market did and the funny thing your kid said today and how your mechanic screwed up the brake job last week. You can spend a little more, maybe $13 - $25, to get to the next level. Mike would remind you to go through the ritual, and ask you again - what do you taste? For this one, you might be reminded of chocolate and cherry. Two flavors. Yah, maybe you'll find more, but there are two that stand out. If you like the wine, you'll say that they blend together well. And you'll know why you like Bogle pinot noir, but don't want to have it every night, or maybe you'll realize why the second glass doesn't seem as flavorful as the first. And you'll realize the more-expensive wine is something to explore instead of just to enjoy. It's one you'd like to remember and try again. Your dinner conversation will include the wine as well as what your crazy cat did yesterday. And you'll have another glass, thank you. Then he'd tell you that if you want to spend another $25, you might get a third important nuance. More complexity. You'd probably really have to think about that one, he says, because it takes some practice to be able to pick out and to, well, appreciate the combination of the three flavors. Guys like me who drink a fair amount of pretty-good wine might or might not get the amount of enjoyment that someone like Mike, who tastes wine for a living (imagine!), would get. And the next level, at a hundred bucks or so, gets you another flavor note. And that's the context in which my comments about Venture Kitchen should be taken. I liked Venture Kitchen. It offers relatively inexpensive, competent tapas with pretty good service and a nice atmosphere. My friend James only sort-of-liked it. He thought everything was good, but expected better. But tapas are an odd creature. They're just food, after all, just like wine is just squashed and rotted grapes. You can make bad tapas, just like you can make vinegar - but that's not at all what happened here. It's good food. It's just that places that serve better, and more-expensive, tapas offer something more. The smoked sausage was very good. the first bite was wonderfully smoky, different and fulfilling. I loved it. And the second bite was just as smoky. And the third. It was good. It was just Bogle - kind of a one-note sausage. A very good note, but kind of hard to stay excited to the end. Same with the tater tots. Good - though not a huge step above regular tots. Btw, the sauce, while (again) good, was a little too much mayonnaise and a little too little kick. And same with the root veggie tapas. Yum. Different. Tasty. And one-note. Not bad, not un-flavorful, not even dull. Just not complex. And same with the sweet potato creme brulee. By the way, there were a lot of eastern-European-influenced dishes on the menu. Kind of a Czech turn on tapas, maybe? Good fit, in any case. Funny thing - the wine, Eternal Sunshine, was a very good inexpensive wine. One note, but I'd recommend it. Venture Kitchen is good, it's different, it's not a bad price and actually a pretty good value. And the service staff is competent, nice and likes that you're there. You'll like it. It's just that if you want to have really good tapas, if you're looking for that complexity that will have you talking as much about the food as what you did today and can you BELIEVE what Joey did? and oh, I've REALLY got to start looking for another apartment - you'll have to spend another $10 - $20 somewhere else. Go there. You'll like it.

This is among our favorite resturants in the downtown Hampton area. If you have been to the area before, it used to be "Brent's." This is a great new addition from the Marker 20 folks. My wife and I frequent the resturant and have yet to have anything but a wonderful experience. It has been great for the two of us, and we have gone in with a party of seven and it was equally as good. First, the pizza. So far we have had five of the about ten pies they offer; the margherita, the pepperoni, the white, the meatza, and the beetza. All of them had amazing crusts with toppings evenly distributed across. The ingredients are fresh and its all made in house. We were nervous at first wtih the beetza, because beets on pizza sounds a little weird. I cant begin to describe how pleasantly surprised we were with it. Great with a gluten free crust for the vegan/vegetarian in your life. Second, the tapas. We have made our way through the whole list. Number one, and you are not living your life to the fullest if you skip them, are the tater tots. These are not your grade school tots, these are adult tots. While they are meant to share, you may want to have an order for everyone at the table, they go fast. Check out the cheese tray as well. Rotating combinations selected by the chefs on a daily basis provide a wonderful experience. Best yet has been the Port Cheddar with chocolate bbq sauce. Third, the cocktails. Hands down best in the area. Great traditional cockatils with Old Fashioneds and Moscow Mules. Contemporary cocktails featuring a Blood Orange Manhatten and a little something they whip up called Eternal Sunshine. Ask for the off menu item of the Balsamic Bourbon. The staff is great here and is know the menu very well. If they do have any questions they have no issue asking the chef and staff (big bonus is you can see the open kitchen from almost every seat) If you have young ones this can be a good place if they will eat anything, or is a great place to get them to try new things. Our daughter is extremely picky and enjoyed a lot of the tapas. (there is no kids menu) Prices are very reasonable. Cocktails are either $5 for classic or $6 for contemporay, pizza will run you $10 and tapas $3-8 depending on what you get. Finally, save room at the end of your meal for the daily creme brulee!

What a great find....and in downtown Ho-Hum Hampton??? A fun selection of interesting and unique cocktails (and for $5?? really?? what's not to like about that?) and the food is GREAT. As everyone else has already said, TRY the Tator Tots....the only thing you will be sorry about is that then you will be addicted. If you've ever had duck fat fries, they taste like those - only rectangular. Everything else was very tasty AND very reasonably priced. Will definitely be back to try more things on their menu.

Loved the margherita pizza! Came in for a quick lunch at 11:30am and due to an almost empty dining area, we were served quickly! We ordered the margherita pizza and the yam and kale salad to share and it was plenty. The yam and kale salad was amazing. Crisp kale and smooth buttery roasted yams with toasted pumpkin seeds, red onion and blackberry vinaigrette. Pizza came just as we were finishing the salad and it was piping hot! Slightly sweet tomato sauce with whole milk mozzarella on top! Basil was in abundance and slightly charred from the oven exactly the way I love it! The crust was thin and flavorful. Nice yeast taste but not too strong. We will definitely come back to try the tapas after 3pm. Our server was nice and friendly! Only negative was the hostess who seated us was NOT friendly. We asked her how she was and she handed us our menus and walked off without responding. Oh well, maybe a bad day for her.

The waitress accidentally spilled scolding water on my mothers hands and did NOT apologize. She didn't offer her condolences or comp her meal. The manager didn't even come out and check on my mother. I understand accidents happen but when you fail to recognize that you physically hurt someone it's extremely disheartening. I'll never eat somewhere that doesn't seem to care about the general welfare or physical safety of their customers.

Loved it! My wife and I shared a bottle of wine and had the Beet Salad. It was amazing! We also had a few other tapas that were great too. The scene was very cool and inviting. The music was great, a blend of Indie Rock with 80s Electronica. Great service as well. We definitely recommend this place to anyone. Next time we're going to try one of the many abnormal pizzas they have with some beer from a nice selection too.

My husband and I came here on a Saturday night and we loved everything about it! They have a large selection of unique cocktail drinks..I had the rosemary lavender cocktail and although it was very sweet I loved the interesting flavor combination. We also loved the port wine fondue(tapas) which came with grilled bread! It was a nice Quiet atmosphere with great service. We definitely recommend it to anyone.

My husband and I just moved into the area, and have been looking for a good pizza place with brick oven pizzas. Venture was a great find! The salad with green apples and pork belly was great and the pizza was delicious. Everything else we saw coming from the kitchen looked great as well. The waitress and bartender were pleasant and helpful. We will definitely be back!

I stumbled across Venture since I was in downtown Hampton, and looking for a place to eat. Glad I came by here! I had the BBQ Porkbelly sandwich, and you wouldn't think that Porkbelly and broccoli would go together, but it does, and it was very tasty! The tots were awesome, I've never had tots like those before, the texture was amazing, and far from the usual cylindrical ones you'd get at other places! I gotta bring my hubby next time!

Oh, you lucky, lucky people of Hampton,VA! We're in town working the "life's a beach triathlon" for five days & we've already eaten here three times. Much has been said about the tots....and they ARE good, but my number one pick at Venture so far is the fondue. Four sizeable chunks of yummy garlic bread to dredge through a hot skillet of delicious cheese. And at four bucks a pop? The snooty tapas places we typically frequent in our hometown would charge double. The calamari tacos are a standout & we have had both the eggplant & Margarhetia pizzas.....divine! Most surprising to me was the kale & yam dessert, oh, I mean SALAD, with it's raspberry vinaigrette that is more like a paste---likely won't ever enjoy kale this much again. The Sweet Baby Jesus beer & cucumber lime mojitos were fab. Great, friendly atmosphere, not the slightest bit pretentious. We had uniquely different music playing at each visit which kept things interesting. The bathrooms truly need an update, really my sole criticism. Just outstanding& we'll be sure to visit every year. Jealous of all you locals!

My husband and I have been several times, but I have to say that the best experience we've had was this last Sunday when we went in for brunch. I was so excited to snag the LAST serving of the Fried Chicken Benedict! It was so delicious and the serving size was just perfect. Any larger and it would have been too much considering how rich and flavorful the dish is. My husband got the country ham, biscuits and gravy and we both enjoyed a few $2 mimosas. Get the tots, they are amazing and their pizzas are also very good. Check it out! You won't be sorry!

Very good food. Turkey potpie and white pizza were the best. Kids ordered off regular menu during a day visit and did fine. Would go there again. Too much bread on roll for Carolina BBQ. But the jalapeño coleslaw was delish. Would order it without the bread next time. Otherwise great.
