Italian Cuisine
The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.
Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.
If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.

One of our faces! Never fails to hit the mark. The wild game dishes are exceptional.

Oh man oh man. This place can not be in Fairfax, this needs to be in Milan! Or Dubai! Everything was so good! I had the quail stuffed with rabbit, it came with a risotto, and I had peach iceberg salad. Both were amazing.. You have to try it, setting is really romantic too

Came here with coworkers. First we were greeted by a friendly waiter. The room we were directly had a privacy for a group of 11 of us as it was separate from other diners. I got salad for appetizer, tagliata for main, and tiramisu for dessert. The waiter recommended a red wine and a white wine before our meal. The white wine had sweet and smoothe taste but the red wine was too mild. My main meal was good but was too small for an adult portion. The sauce on the side was sweet and tasty. Overall I had good experience at this restaurant.

I loved this place. I wish i had known about it a long time ago. i highly recommend for lunch it was spectacular. Service is great. It's such a shame it's so quiet in there. The food was terrific. This is my new go to lunch place. :)

The portion size appears small but are actually perfect. The favors were fantastic. The service was great. I didn't know it was a more upscale restaurant so we took our little ones, luckily they were well behaved and the staff didn't seem to mind that we brought small children. Wish the desserts were a little bigger. It is very pricey so be prepared, I wasn't.

It's unfortunate that I have to write this review, as I really loved this place. I just got back from a special Valentines Day prix fixe lunch at Villa Mozart. The price was high - $69 for 3 courses - but when I made the reservation I thought to myself that their food was really good so would be that much better for this special occasion. I was wrong. First thought when I walk in - it's freezing. Every person in our party wore our down parkas/fur coats the entire meal. The entire meal. No where else have I had to do this in my life. There was no mention of how cold it was, or apologies by the staff, or any attempt at bringing the temperature up. Toward the end of my meal I saw tiny space heaters that were not near any human, but were in the hallway heating no one. My feet are still freezing even though I am at home writing this. It was just a terrible start to a meal that in the end, was very forgettable and very expensive. The actual meals were standard - it just wasn't what I experienced the first two times I had come to Villa Mozart. There was also nothing that really warranted the $69 price tag. Their typical lunch prix fixe is totally worthwhile (around $20) - but other than a little bit of truffle emulsion I still can't explain what caused the steep increase in price. Overall, very unhappy with our experience there. Will sadly not be back.

Antipasti: salami special, delicious, appropriate appetizer w/ small portions. Main course: Tortellini with a veal stuffing and sweetbread. Nice brown sauce on top. Also delicious with approp portions. Restaurant is quaint with a classy staff and nice head chef. The sambuca digestif also did the trick. This is a classy, dressy restaurant for an older crowd. Not a place to take your kids. Also not a place to go if you are a picky eater. Most of the food includes veal, sweetbread (pancreas), other red meats, and seafood. Closest thing to classic (American) pasta with red sauce is the Gnocchi.

How do you actually explain Villa Mozart? Quaint, modern, classy, tasteful, tasty? It's small enough to be too small, but big enough in flavors that paints the Italian world with large strokes of color. I've been having a hard time trying to find quality restaurants in the area but Villa Mozart hits the Italian spot with a big fat bulls eye. Perfect for a fancy family dinner, a classy dinner date, or even a lunch date! Shoot, even bring your toddler child, pray and hope there isn't a lot of people, and you'll still have a great time! My lunch experience was superb with no spare change. Food: - (Lunch) Prix Fixe Three-Course ($20): The items may not be on the official menu but that's a part of the surprise! This changes every day and totally worth it. Definitely recommend this since you get a filling portion perfect for lunch, and hits all the taste buds in one go! Here's what we got: - Lentil soup: I'm very skeptical with lentils since they always seem so chunky and heavy but this was a game-changer. Not only is it finely pureed into a soup with a few chunks to remind you of what you're consuming, but the drizzled olive oil completely flips this soup into a delightfully smooth and outstanding soup. I dont say this lightly and I am bold to say this soup is absolutely worth getting. Who knew this combo would work perfectly and that the rich olive oil would stand out so much? To top it off, the slices of mini penne pieces inside were firm enough to keep its texture and still complement the soup. Stunning. Definite must-try! - Bistecca: Presentation is key and the flavors are very noticeably fresh and on-par. The semi-thinly sliced flank steak comes out on the rarer side of medium-rare, which pairs perfectly with their smoother oxtail red wine sauce. The pairing is not overpowered or underwhelming, it's perfect combination of subtle flavors that bring out the flank. The celery root puree doesnt stand out on its own, but its texture when consumed with the flank brings out this subtle tone that runs the same frequency as the red wine sauce. Now, that chive potato cake brings in the carb but in a light mixture that does not stand on its own. Yes, it does pack in flavors, but it fits so well into how the flank is prepared, and still have a slight firm outer layer and soft interior. All these textures never clashed, and is very enjoyable dish. Definitely recommended. - Trofie Pasta (not on menu!): The swirly pasta pieces came a tad firmer than al dente which may not have been the most ideal but did not rob you of this dish's main selling point: the subtle stroganoff similarity with its Italian twist. It's a hearty ragu dish but may be too rich and consistent that finishing it would be a tad bit of a challenge because of the one-dimensional flavors. This isn't a negative thing but rather a preference. Loved the pieces of steak that floated around in the thick sauce and didnt rob the pasta of any of its essential flavors. . - Chocolate Tortino with Caramel Sauce: This is essentially a beautiful Molten Lava Cake. This freshly heated/baked cake oozed with rich sweet dark chocolate flavors, and then some more as the inner runny layer kept this rich moisture. Pros: - Beautiful and tactful interior and exterior. Homey (literally), comfortable, and classy. This is great for a date or fancy family gathering--just don't bring the whole extended family, it's not a big restaurant! - Fresh, fresh, fresh ingredients and superb quality of food. Every dish came with such precision and thoughtfulness, and no ingredient seemed underdeveloped. - Presentation is dazzling and impressive. It complements the dishes and is consistent with what you should expect. - Helpful and attentive waiter(s) that gives the restaurant another flare of classiness. Thank you for all your help (Tuesday lunch guy!) Cons: - That complementary bread in the beginning was way hard. It's almost like it was sitting around for too many hours, and became dry and tough. - It is a very small establishment--make a reservation if you are coming during peak hours! In the end Villa Mozart is definitely worth noting and to try at least once. I know my party had absolute regard and even made a reservation for a huge family gathering post-Christmas. Bravo, Villa Mozart--making that kind of impression on my family is quite a rarity. We/I will definitely be back!

Very nice place. I enjoyed the flavoring on all the dishes I ordered. The building is little old and parking is like a maze but I am definitely going back for more.
(5)Jean S.
Great fine dining option for a special occasion in the heart of Fairfax City. The food was lovely, and the service was wonderful. I removed one star, because I splurged on their signature Lobster Risotto, and I found the risotto to be too al dente for my personal preference. Despite that, I would return and try a different entree in a heartbeat. My husband's lamb was outstanding.
(4)Heather M.
A restaurant where we had a reservation was abruptly closed for the evening & they didn't call us, so we walked to this lovely spot for our anniversary at the last minute. It was an absolutely superb dining experience from start to finish and I cannot wait to go back. Service and food were wonderful.
(5)Freddy P.
I honestly believe is not worth the price. They serve Italian fast food on an expensive plate. They make you believe you are having very fine food, because of the service and the presentation, but honestly Olive Garden serves tastier meals. The only thing I would recommend from this place is the dessert.
(3)Peter R.
This is an upscale restaurant that touts its unusual cuisine and the food is excellent but sparse. It is VERY costly to dine here and the service was questionable. We waited twenty-five minutes for our check and it all started with a ten minute wait for a menu. Overall, it was unsatisfactory. I would not eat here again.
(2)Becky B.
It's clear that the chef cares a great deal about what he serves. The menu changes seasonally and I have yet to try something I didn't like. The service is excellent. My only issue is with the tiny parking spaces.
(5)G S.
The food is amazing! The service is warm and friendly and the ambiance takes you back to Italy. (Our waiter Oscar was awesome!) I recommend the Pre-Fix Menu a three course meal that delights your taste buds. You cant go wrong with the soup and the meat or fish dish. Because of their outstanding service we would hold our customer service comittee meeting here for over a year and loved it. Too bad we moved farther out. I miss this place.
(5)Jessica K.
Bellisimo!!!! Seriously compliments to Chef Andrea. This place is amazing! The service was fantastic! Food was mouth watering. Company was good. T'was a great night. I had the three course menu. Started with the caprese salad, risotto zucca and ended with the chestnut shoufle. Everything was mouth watering good!
(5)Spinster S.
Went here with two of my friends that I used to live in Rome with and all three of us loved it! We got the caprese and an order of the beets for the appetizer, then two of us ordered pappardelle and one is the gnocchi. All were very tasty but the gnocchi were especially good with the fennel and a spicy kick. We didn't have dessert because we were stuffed but it looked great from what we saw. Definitely a romantic spot, not good for kids but they do have a separate small room for what looks like groups. Very small place overall but very nice. Will be coming back over and over again.
(5)David S.
The food is creative and well prepared...to bad the service failed miserably. Drinks flowed like mud, got my drink order wrong, and pretty sure she left to run a 5k she was gone for so long. Two other tables felt trapped and didn't have their bill either. It is one of the nicest restaurants in the City of Fairfax. Caprese was excellent. The gnocchi was a nice dish that had great seasoning with fennel and sausage. We really did enjoy the food and atmosphere.
(2)John T.
Easily the best fine dining restaurant in Fairfax, Villa Mozart consistently puts a smile on my face. The menu seems to revolve around a core of traditional italian dishes with interesting contemporary takes. The chef, I understand, is highly regarded and for good reason. The service is wonderful, but this is not fast food. The kitchen is small, so you have to wait your turn. The wine list has some breadth and smart choices. They don't just have to be a special occasion place. They have a very reasonable price fix menu on weekdays. I have been many times and have never had a bad experience.
(4)Rafif J.
Magnificent food, delightful ambience. If you're looking for a cozy place to have a delicious meal in an unpretentious setting, look no further than Villa Mozart.
(5)S W.
Great meal save for a couple of "quarks." I really enjoy tiramisù - but this was a little too unique for my style in both flavor and presentation. They served a very good espresso - but they provided only a sip. For the price, a swallow or two more have been appreciated.
(4)Danielle K.
We really enjoyed the atmosphere, food, and dining experience. The service was great, the food was fantastic, and the wine was delicious! We will certainly be back again soon. It was very quaint and upscale.
(5)Carl S.
Had driven by this small restaurant many times. Telephoned at 4:00 p.m. on a Saturday and made a reservation for that evening. On arrival I was immediately transported to Europe by the aromas! My time at Villa Mozart was an Epicurean experience in every way. If you are in a big hurry don't come to Villa Mozart. The food and ambiance deserves time to be enjoyed. AND this isn't "code words' for slow service - the courses arrive in succession, timed appropriately for individual, by-human hand, from scratch, preparation. I am against the Super-size portion culture, so I found their portions to be just right! The desserts are fabulous endings to perfect meals.

I just went last night with some friends for a birthday dinner, and I can confidently say that Villa Mozart is one of the premier dining options in old town Fairfax. Offering exceptional food at lower-than-average prices, I'll definitely be returning in the future. This first visit, I ordered the carpaccio to start, the pork belly, and for desert the apple strudel. Going in order, then: The carpaccio was honestly less tasty than it was beautiful to behold. It really was one of those situations where you feel guilty eating when such care and time were taken to present the dish so well. Served on a deep-welled plate with saran wrap on the top of the lip, the carpaccio and accompanying fois gras then looked like they were floating above the plate- a very cool effect. Alas, the arrangement was the best part of the dish. The beef, while perfectly sliced into thin, round portions, was lacking in flavor. The fois gras (always the best part of any meal, right?) was better, but served just above room temperature. I know it was part of a cold dish, but I always prefer my duck liver a bit warmer. The balsamic-based sauce outlining the plate was wonderful, however, and boosted the dish overall. As far as my entrée, I found my pork belly to be delicious. Even though they are the same thing, mostly, I consider tenderloin and belly to be two distinct items. This pork belly was definitely more on the tenderloin side, but that didn't make it any less enjoyable- it's just not on the same level as, say, Marcel's pork belly. When combined with the sweet potato purée, it was fantastic. And last but not least, the apple strudel was amazing- quite probably the best I've ever had. The pastry layers were perfectly flaky, and the apples within excellently sugared. To top it all off, their homemade ice cream was great as well. Definitely recommended. During our meal we ordered two bottles of wine, both of which were enjoyable and well-priced. Do yourself a favor and get a bottle of the La Cappuccina Sauvignon Blanc- works great during the appetizer round. The dining space itself is quaint, quiet, and romantic, giving off a vibe that would suit proposals well. As with many downtown Fairfax eateries, Villa Mozart is in actuality a converted house, which I always think gives a place a very cozy, comfortable feel- despite being classy and romantic at the same time. Although I must say: there was a flatscreen TV mounted on the wall in our dining room, which, while it remained off for the duration of the meal, was nonetheless a confusing addition. There were a few issues with my meal that keeps it from the sought-after five star rating, but don't let that cloud your opinion of this restaurant. Villa Mozart is a great option for an upscale dinner which also happens to be aggressively priced as a bonus. Make a reservation and see for yourself.
(4)Sriram S.
Great food, quaint vibe. My wife and I went here for our anniversary dinner. The staff was very friendly and courteous. The food was very fresh and light... everything was enjoyable and we didn't feel stuffed afterwards. The restaurant is tucked away just off main street in Fairfax, but is bigger than it looks from the outside. Would definitely go here again and recommend it!
(4)Mai P.
First and foremost what you need to know is that I love talking. I love being able to sit down and enjoy the company and conversation of others while dining. However at Villa Mozart, I was overwhelmed with the immense complexity of flavor, presentation, and delicious smells, that it simply left me speechless. It is not often that I find a gem like this in Fairfax. To do so on a week night was remarkable. We ordered the three-course dinner and choose: The Caprese and Del Mare, Risotto Ollo and Vitello, and finished with the Apple Strudel and the Chestnut Souffle with Pumpkin Ice Cream. The Del Mare had a wonderful sauce that drew out the flavor of the prawn as did the sauce in the Risotto Ollo to the lobster. Both were very strong contenders of flavor through the use of shell fish. I would also highly recommend the Apple Strudel for dessert. Don't ask why, see for yourself. The Strudel possess a warm tender layer of apple and pastry that create a mouth watering combination when paired with ice cream. We were also happily surprised with an additional course consisting of something small and delicate in a spoon with bacon. I wish I could remember the name, but unfortunately I can not. All you need to know was that each element of this dish, and every other following it were smartly planned to activate a wide section of your palette. An impressive feat not many have been able to accomplish. Overall I describe the food as a symphony of senses. You really do get what you pay for. Each dish really does have a strength of it's own and when eaten in sequential order it builds up to a lovely crescendo and finish. I highly recommend Villa Mozart.
(5)Eric O.
We greatly enjoyed this restaurant. The waiter was extremely patient and professional, ambiance was elegant, and the food was nothing short of amazing. I highly recommend this place, especially for a classy romantic dinner!
(5)Elsie H.
First visit to Villa Mozart and we were impressed. The food was excellent and the service was professional and well paced. The environment was welcoming and very nice. Our drinks were served before the menu was provided. A nice selection of wines by the glass were offered.
(4)Gina B.
The food was amazing. Get that out of the way first. We had apps and dinner and loved everything. The service was very disappointing. We were seated, handed a wine list (no menu) and waited. After several minutes, a waiter asked what wine we would like to order. We stated we'd like to see the menu first to decide what we're eating. That took a little longer. A new waiter took over and he was very good but not very attentive. We waited quite a while after our plates had been cleared to get our check. He was folding napkins in the back. For the price, I can't say I'd go again. While the food was great, the service left me cold and you're paying for both.
(3)Lauren L.
Wonderful dining experience. Fine dining, crave worthy food in the neighborhood. Not pretentious. The waiter obviously had a lot of pride in what he does and that made it that much better. Recommend: lobster risotto (which you can get as an appetizer), calamari, speck, ahi special was amazing. Three course set menu at $40-50 per person was well worth the price but only offered during the week

I ate here and had their prix fixe menu, and I have to say that even though the portions were small, they were very good. For 20 dollars a person, I had a starter, entree, and dessert. The tiramisu was divine! It is a little on the Elegant side, but it was worth the money, just wish the portions were bigger.

If you're looking for a fancy/romantic dinner location in Fairfax, I would recommend visiting Villa Mozart at least once for that experience. Good food and good service. However the prices are a bit steep. The food is served in smaller portions and laid out in a visually appealing way. I had the caprese salad w/ water buffalo cheese, beef tenderloin in oxtail red wine sauce, and for dessert I had tiramisu. The standout was the beef, it was one of those types of cuts and cooked just so that your fork will slide right through it with only gravity pulling it down. You know... the melt in your mouth kind of steak. Good stuff for sure. If the prices were just a little lower I would probably find my self filling their seats more often.

Intimate and inviting, Villa Mozart is on a short list of romantic splurge-worthy places in Fairfax City. A quaint, classic Italian spot that has an atmosphere of leisure. It's not the kind of place to visit if you are planning to catch a movie; the meal is an experience, so plan to savor and linger. The service is impeccable and the food is good. If they are offering Filetto Di Manzo or any other preparation of filet Mignon, DO IT! I don't know why, but every filet I have ordered here has been amazingly velvety and succulent. They have a decent wine list with a variety of price points. Split a bottle, relax, and enjoy the full Villa Mozart experience.

My wife and I had a rare date night. The food was wonderful and the service impeccable. This is not your typical Italian place. This is a place where the chef considers carefully works hard creates dishes that are creative and interesting. We will be back!
(5)Yelper O.
Best pasta ever!!! Portions are much smaller compared to other restaurants but their plates are so tasty that you can't complain. Parking is limited so plan to park in the public parking and not their back parking. The place is really tiny so it feels a bit cluttered.
(5)L K.
My bf took me here for my birthday! The place looks so small and dinky from the outside but once you step inside, its fancy and nice! We ordered ZUPPA DI STAGGIONE- it was good. tasted like cream of chicken. generous portion DEL MARE - lots of seafood! yum! RISOTTO OLLO -good but I've had better LOMBO DI MAIALE-good but very small portion Overall, we had a nice experience! The food is good but not enough to rave about especially for the price.

Stopped in for lunch. Great food and the service was quick without being overbearing.

Absolutely loved this gem of a find in Fairfax City!!! Don't be fooled by the simple exterior as soon as you walk it's quaint, cozy and so charming!!! It's a chef owned/family owned restaurant and they make you feel so welcomed! We went there for the first time by accident for our 5yr anniversary and fell in love w it! The food was fantastic! The wine selection excellent and the atmosphere wonderful!!! Highly recommend this place!
(5)Billy S.
Front of house/hostess was rude and refused to seat us despite res. Never going back.

I am in love with this place. We come here on every anniversary. The food is amazing...outstanding... incredible! There hasn't been a single item on the menu that didn't make me go "OOOOH! AAAHH! OMG, this is SO good!" very clean cut, classy spot in Fairfax. You couldn't tell from driving by. A hidden gem- knowing this place is priceless!!
(5)Lyn G.
Excellent...the food, presentation, service were all exceptional! Pricey, but well worth it for a special occasion. Parking is a bit tricky.

Villa Mozart is one of my favorite places to dine when I want to take my time and enjoy great food. I love that they change the menu/specials with the seasons. The wait staff and hostess are knowledgeable and some of the finest.
(5)Keely F.
One of our favorite restaurants in Fairfax! Intimate and cozy, this small restaurant packs in the full meal deal in a memorable and refined fashion. And to do Villa Mozart right, you have to have the whole meal experience. Choose a wine, appetizer, entree and one of their fabulous desserts and you'll be treated to a luxurious dinner you could only find in a big city famous for good eats. My husband and I love going to Villa Mozart, especially on special occasions. We'd recommend making a reservation though, as the restaurant is fairly small.
(5)Monica G.
The restaurant ambiance was terrible due to a roaring drunk sitting in the table next to us. He was drinking wine, flashing hundred dollar bills and loudly exclaiming obscenities to 4 very quiet Asians (he was not Asian) at his table. I expected the manager or someone from the restaurant to ask him to quiet down - everyone in the restaurant could hear him - but no-one said a thing....in fact, they acted frightened. In a small restaurant like this, for the price we paid, that was definitely a downer. Too bad, because the food and table-service was excellent. I hope that someone from the restaurant reads this and prepares to address such issues if they reoccur.

My wife and I went to celebrate a promotion. The restaurant and food were perfect. Small restaurant filled with adults acting like adults, so the ambiance was great as there were no loud conversations, kids running around, or babies crying. It was just mature adults enjoying a nice night out. Its pricey, but IMO it was worth it. Nice wine list that includes wine by the glass and a nice selection of those. The menu itself is nice. Lots of things that I have never had, so it was fun. We opted for dessert and it was heaven. My wife's comment was "next time just wine and dessert!". Great place for a leisurely dinner. Service was great as was the food and ambiance. We plan to go back.
(5)Michael B.
Always excellent food with great service. I have dined here 30+ times over the last few years. Best Italian in northern va. This is not an Italian American restaurant rather an authentic northern Italian one. I've grown fairly tired of the former. Extremely fresh ingredients with a very nice protein selection. Think venison, lamb chops & shanks, and I believe on one occasion ostrich. Go to dishes for me are the carpaccios and penne lobster. Staff takes the time to get to know frequent diners and is always very knowledgeable. You must finish the meal off with one of there seasonal strudels. Price is very affordable for food quality.

Once again this place does not dissappoint. To start this visit we did a last minute check on open table for a service for 3 adults and 1 infant. To our surprise we had 15 minutes to get there. The places is on the smaller side and not too accomadating for a car seat (especially not the stroller), but that was not stopping us. First we receive a chilled soup from the chef (cucumber it was wonderful). Two had the soup special which was artichoke (you have to like artichoke and the shrimp made a wonderful pairing in the soup).....also a carprase salad (nothing too special execpt for these 3 marinated cherry tomatoes (WOW). The main course arrives 1 order of penna w lobster (this is ususally on the menu and everytime it has been super. 1 order of pasta martelle you only get 6 but the sause and the filling are terrific. Lastly was the rack of lamb....this by far was the best plate of the night.....wow and the cheese crust on some of the lamb had these amazing flavors.....and the fava bean puree was not only visually stunning, but smooth and creamy and delicious. Dessert was great too. 1 order of a nuget mousse, 1 chocolate semisreeddo, and crem breul. It is a great place (more on the fine dinning side) than hearty Italian, but if you want to experience a carnival in your mouth of food then you have to check this place out.

Tonight my husband and I had dinner here for the first time. We are new to the area and heard many great things about Villa Mozart. All of them were true. The restaurant is quite small, but the atmosphere was quiet and comfortable. They brought us fresh bread which was divine, and crispy, thin, bread sticks that were baked in olive oil. These were truly drool-worthy. Next came a small cup of a light cheese soup that was compliments of the chef. It was delightful as well. We ordered an appetizer of caprese which had the freshest, softest mozzarella ever *lips kiss fingers...muah* For our main courses I had the Risotto Otto which was FILLED with more lobster than I could eat. You can never go wrong with too much lobster, right? It was fantastic. My husband had the beef which he said was cooked to perfection. Even the iced tea was fresh and delish! The only downside was that a family came in that had a child. This child couldn't have been more than 2 years old. It was so inconsiderate of them to bring a child to such a nice restaurant. I am not sure what was worse, that they didn't seem to give a rats butt that their spawn was disrupting what was, I'm sure, many couples celebrating something romantic/intimate, or that they were so oblivious and self absorbed that they never even considered a baby sitter. The cost for childcare couldn't have been an issue for these people considering that WITHOUT alcohol our meal for the two of us was over $100. Bottom line is that the food and service was well worth 5 stars but that the staff allowed the child then didn't do anything about it when it got out of hand, forced me to score one less star than I would have given.

Never been disappointed. Amazing rockfish last night! We had our daughter with is last night and no issues at all with no kids menu. The chef prepared an amazing gnocchi for her. Always my go to place when visitors are in town.
(5)Laurie W.
As others have mentioned, this place is unassuming on the outside but charming on the inside. I absolutely love the $39 prix-fixe special during the week - a splurge, no doubt, especially during the week, but a deal when compared with their a la carte prices. On this particular evening, I chose the beets and goat cheese for my appetizer, the boar sausage & fennel risotto for my meal, and the apple strudel for dessert. My husband had the calamari, the olive gnocchi for dinner, and the white polenta souffle. Everything was fresh and prepared perfectly. My risotto dish was enormous - I couldn't even finish the entire thing and I wanted to make sure I saved room for dessert! Service this particular evening was a bit rushed in the beginning, but slowed down after we ordered (service is always good here, though). I love coming here at least once a quarter - the menu changes with the seasons and I always look forward to what Chef Andrea might be featuring!

Great experience. We had a reservation at 5:30 which is right when the restaurant opens. We had a few moments alone in the restaurant which was nice. The entire night was laid back but marked with excellence. Service was excellent. The pace might be the only exception, which wasn't awful - just saying a pessimist would call it slow, and an optimist would call it relaxed. I tend to go with the optimists view since everything else was so well done. Our waiter was knowledgeable and helpful, and the entire service staff of the restaurant was very warm and friendly. The little things really showed off the restaurant. They give you little "bread sticks", which are thin and crispy while looking over the menu. A guy comes with a basket to give you bread. And of course, the food was tasty. We had the poached scallops - Cappesante - to start off with. While I'm not a big seafood guy, the scallops were good. They were a bit too fishy for my tastes, but were perfectly seasoned. The balsamic vinegar drizzled over the dish was an excellent touch. My wife, who is a seafood fan, loved it. We played it fairly safe for entree. My wife had the Pennette a' Matriciana. It came with cooked pancetta. The entire dish was thoroughly infused with a slightly spicy peppery taste. Very good. I went with the Risotto Zucca. I've had a strange craving for fig newtons the past few weeks and the dish had fig in it - plus risotto, sausage and even pumpkin. Easy decision. I was hoping for a bit more pizzazz based on the description, but was presented with a simple comfort-heavy meal. The risotto was in a light cream sauce (I know, oxymoron, but it wasn't a heavy cream sauce). The sausage was tasty. There was a drizzle of fig reduction but I wish there was more fig sauce. I could taste the vague notes of pumpkin. All in all a great dish and I was happy with it. 4.5 stars.

Not sure to give 3 or 4 stars. Very nice meal but for Fairfax (and even Penn Quarter) I think the entree price elves were a little off the charts. During mid-week the $39 special (appetizer, pasta, and dessert) is a decent value but if you go weekends or order meat or fish the tab rises rapidly. Having recently returned from Italy I'm still in sticker shock at some Italian American places. The star of the meal IMO was the panzarotti with 3 cheeses and eggplant. Very complex flavors that all worked together. A green pea soup was excellent. Gnocchi were truly feathery - the saucing seemed a little heavy (in terms of taste rather than volume) but a good pasta. My tortelli was slightly underdone and slightly lukewarm. The rib meat stuffing and veal sauce was quite a tasty compensation. We finished with an excellent tiramisu - served in layers in a glass. Service was excellent as was a $42 Barbera, Atmosphere - at this price stratosphere it's a little too ordinary. Villa Mozart offers what very few VA restaurants can - but if you can get to DC there is very serious competition.

The rye mushroom half-moon ravioli was a disappointment. The flavor was pretty good. The texture wasn't. I don't know if I just don't like rye pasta, but the edges were hard. The ravioli itself was incredibly oily, mostly on the outside. It tasted like it had been sauteed in lukewarm oil. The appetizer of tomatoes, avocado, buffalo milk mozzarella, and buffalo milk foam was mediocre. I love cheese, and this cheese was pretty good, but not flavorful enough to sustain the dish. The avocado was superfluous. I'm not a salt fiend, but a sprinkle of salt really could have brought out the flavor better. I'm all for the subtle flavor, but in this case it was barely detectable. The tomatoes were the best part. My dad really like his however, so maybe it was just me. The beet risotto (which my dad got) was very good, but easily homemade for much less. (We tested it). Mom and sister both got meat dishes, which they deemed good, but not great. My sister ordered the filet and the waiter brought rabbit stuffed quail. It turned out he had heard wrong and her order was never made. Her food came out pretty quickly afterwards, so not a real problem. Her favorite part of the dish was actually the celery root puree. She thought her potatoes were pretty bad. The desert was definitely the best course. My sister got chocolate semifreddo, my parents both got tiramisu, and I got what can only be described as the ultimate lemon dessert (which was superb). Overall, not worth it. But cheers to the patissier!

The food here is great and flavorful!!! The portion sizes are a bit small compared to other places but it's enough. This is a good spot to take a date!!
(4)L L.
Wow! This restaurant was truly a surprise. I expected good food (having read other reviews), but the food here was special. We had the lobster risotto which has to be one of the best dishes I've eaten in a very long time. We also had the gnocchi which was also very good. Very light for gnocchi but not as good as the risotto in my opinion. We started out with the fillo wrapped fontina and the carpaccio appetizers which were both excellent and finished with the polenta Nero (Italian souffle). Much to our surprise, we were so stuffed we couldn't finish our dessert as much as we really wanted to. Highly recommend! We will definitely be coming back!

Went here with a few friends and I freakin' lovedddd this place! Who knew that once you walked through their doors that it'd be such a quiet, classy place?!? The service was wonderful. Our waiter was so knowledgable about the menu and even gave us somewhat of a history lesson! He was very polite, funny and very patient. They had such a great selection that I had a hard time deciding what I wanted... Our waiter was was helpful and helped me decide. The food was beyond amazing & the nice quiet atmosphere was an extra bonus.I will warn you that the price is kind of steep and the portions do run on the smaller end but it was just sooo good. I would totally recommend this place if you're in the fairfax area.
(4)J. Paul A.
Quaint little place with great attention to detail. 4.5 if it was available. Lentil soup was very good and the penne martelli was excellent as well. Waiter was conversational but not intrusive. Very good experience. NOTE: you can park in most of the reserved spaces behind the restaurant after 5:00 PM
(4)Tim G.
Had one of the most amazing meals that we can remember. This is a such a quaint restaurant with just the right atmosphere. We had just 5 or so prints on the wall, each table a single red rose and the electronic candles finished off the dining area. :-) Our waiter picked a great red wine for us, a Dal Maso. For Appetizzers we had the CAPPESANTE (poached sea scallop) and CAPRESE get this, buffallo mozzeralla. They were both amazing. Though I think the CAPPESANTE is there better value. Dinner: we had the fish special. I can't pronounce the name but it was seasoned beautifully, and wrapped in prosciutto and we had the beef tenderlion. And when they ask you how you want it cooked. Do youreself a favor and don't order it cooked anything greater than medium. We ordered medium well, and our waiter looked at us like we had sixteen eyes. The only negative thing is the parking, there is a small and by small I MEAN SMALL lot in the back. But no worries, in down town Fairfax there is plenty of free public parking for you. A great fine dining experience and will be happy to call it our new favorate restaurant.
(4)Julie P.
We celebrated our anniversary here on 6/15/13 and it was absolutely excellent! All staff were professional and attentive and the food and wine was amazing. I started off with an asparagus soup garnished with shrimp, then moved on to Risotto Ollo (a risotto with lobster) and ended with Tiramisu. Every dish was absolutely perfect and the wine list was impressive. We will DEFINITELY be back! This is a wonderful example of how a restaurant should operate in order to keep their clientele coming back for more!
(5)Colline F.
The best restaurants in old town Fairfax. I would eat here every night if it wasn't so expensive. But my husband and I do go here for special occasions and they treat us like royalty. It is a charming and comfortable place! I will always go here for important dinners and to impress people visiting from out of town.
(5)Girl O.
Not good. Rude Waiter. Mom and I went to have dinner and were treated very rudely by the waiter. The place is stuffy. Waiter didn't spend time explaining anything- no wine suggestion- nothing. Seemed rushed. Mom had the "light" pasta with lobster and I had the risotto. Hardly any lobster on mom's HEAVY, oily dish. I commented on this and the waiter scoffed "you will not get an entire lobster for $24" which was not the concern! I said that my risotto was not that great as it was just a pile of risotto, nothing special, oily - heavy. The waitress brought olive oil (which they must have a ton of there) and put it down on our table- didn't offer to fix it for our bread to be dipped in. Very light pour on the wine. No suggestion for dessert, coffee? I told the waiter that were weren't very pleased - he said he would tell the chef (rudely). He came back with the check, said the "chef is picking up the tab. This is what we serve" - and THREW the bill down on the table. I was perfectly willing to pay for dinner- just wondered if they would be concerned with whether or not it was good- or maybe make suggestions as to what to have next time. WE will NEVER be back and will spread the word to our many contacts in Fairfax. Incredibly rude- and over hyped. Heavy and over priced. Water was the best part.

Right in the heart of Fairfax City, along Chain Bridge Road. Small parking lot in the rear. Food good, not great. For appetizer we had the scallop shrimp dish. We thought it was great. For our entrees, we had the quail stuffed with rabbit sausage and the beef tenderloin. Very Small portions for entrees priced north of $30. Interior decor was "quaint". Service was good. Overall, there is nothing to wow you with this restaurant, except the high prices. Gave 3 stars because of the quality of food to quantity to price ratio. Overall good, not great. There are better options in the area.
(3)M E.
We went to celebrate my birthday. We were looking for a nice place to have Italian, and we really enjoyed our dishes. My husband ordered the Chitarra and I ordered the Penne Martelli. We also shared the Cuori Di Lattuga salad which was a good idea since the portions are not very big. Waiter was helpful in explaining the dishes and was very knowledgeable. Not much parking at all in the back of the building, so plan ahead. Seating was a little tight. It's not a very big place at all. Overall, good experience.
(4)Joe M.
Villa Mozart has a great atmosphere with lots of charm. My wife and I had the veal medallions and the lamb chops with an Argentinean malbec. Creme brûlée and italian coffee were outstanding. The wine menu was rich with variety. Ideal birthday venue.
(5)Ted F.
Just a really nice romantic Italian restaurant with impeccable service, fresh ingredients, some creative menu options, and a splendid wine list. At its price point, I wouldn't come here if I lived inside the Beltway or Maryland and had the array of closer DC Italian restaurants to choose from. It's not Fiola or Bibiana, but it's a more-than-acceptable compromise of living in the Fairfax suburbs and wanting to drive less than 5 miles instead of greater than 50 roundtrip for dinner.
(5)Jordan C.
Should I have been surprised to find a gem like this is Fairfax? Excellent food, including the butternut squash soup, and a great wine selection. Nice ambiance as well. It's worth the trip into the suburban metropolis.
(4)Marie S.
We've lived in Fairfax for a while but never tried this place because 1-it usually requires a reservation and 2-we don't like to dress up and it has the vibe of a non-jeans place. In the end, we did make a reservation and did wear jeans - nice ones, but jeans - and actually there was another party also in jeans and business casual clothing. Of course, others were in cocktail attire. Parking and traffic were fine. Sunday night, plenty of free parking behind the restaurant, and we live in Fairfax so we could have found other parking anyway and we are used to the traffic. Food - Very good. One negative - I am a vegetarian and there was only one meal on the menu without meat, and it was pumpkin gnocci. Not my thing. I am not into frou frou food or strange flavors, and I am definitely not a foodie. I like traditional Italian. I wanted some pasta. I ended up ordering a pasta dish on the menu - something with peppers and bacon and penette pasta - and asked them to leave out the bacon. They said they could do that, although honestly I didn't get the feeling that they were thrilled about the whole vegetarian thing. However, I got the same reaction in Italy, so I guess that's authentic at least. At first, I was worried. My husband had a salad with granny smith apples and walnuts and it was interesting. He likes interesting, I don't. Also had some" on the chef" stuff - scallops for my husband and something beet with goat cheese for me. Again, interesting flavors. Definitely foodie stuff. Not for me. I was getting really worried about the entree, although my husband was quite happy. Fortunately, entrees were great. My pasta dish was really good, even without the bacon. It was not bland and yet not so strange that I couldn't eat it. It was spicy, with a slightly smokey pepper flavor. Really good. Not as good as some things I had in Italy, but still very very good and certainly as good as anything I've had in VA. I'd go back for it. My husband had a fish special and said it was the best fish he'd had in a long time. Desert was a chocolate semifreddo and it was interesting a good way. Just a typical semi frozen choco mouse thing, but with a slightly salty caramel sauce and light lemon-y pastry cookie thing. All together it was really good - again, I've had better deserts in my life at some time, but this one was certainly on par with top area restaurants and was very good. The bill came to nearly 100 after tips and tax for just my husband and me (no alcohol, two entrees and one salad). Kind of pricey, but I think worth it for a nice evening, a birthday or anniversary, etc. I can see why people get angry when others bring children or make noise - I think the price tag means that it's only for special occasions for most people, and the restaurant is very small and intimate. So small that you really can't get far from other patrons, so one loud person or screaming baby could really infringe on others' special dinners. I mean, people were there in suits and cocktail dresses. We have a child, but I doubt I'd bring him there - it has a slightly snooty attitude, although it's more from the clientele than the actual staff, who seemed pretty nonchalant about everything, even me, the dreaded non-foodie vegetarian. So I give this place 4 stars overall - they lose one because of the unapologetic lack of vegetarian options.
(4)Miki D.
Excellent food. A bit on the expensive side, but worth it for the taste. The waiter appeared to be a bit impatient and rushed, however he was professional and not rude. He may have been too overwhelmed. I would definitely return.
(4)Pragna H.
We went there for the prix fixe NYE dinner. Gosh, it's been a while and I don't remember all the nitty gritty, but I do remember: 1. Great service 2. Amuse bouche - a lentil and sausage concoction, traditionally for prosperity. A great bite! 3. The bufala mozzarella caprese. This had tomatoes marinated in really good balsamic. It was an out of body experience. I can still feel it. The mozarella, ofcourse was delicious and the buffalo milk foam was a great touch. 4. My boyfriend really enjoyed his foie gra appetizer. 5. The rack of lamb entree was delicious! It came with a great potato side dish, which was almost like a potato lyonnaise, but denser and in the shape of a block. Soooo good! 6. The dessert was a bit of a downer. I had the tiramisu. The soaked ladyfinger to custard/creamy-concoction combination was off. There was just a little too much of the custard-ness. After a big meal, it just seemed a little too much and a little too rich.
(4)Robyn Y.
hidden gem in the area. my favorite is lobster pasta
(5)John E.
My wife and I went for lunch - our first visit. A three star is a good rating from us especially on a first visit. We will return and the rating will likely improve. Had the Prix Fixe menu for $20.00 each, soup (very good), entree - pasta (good), desert (creme brulee, good) - a good value for lunch. The food was good to very good. Good portion sizes, left full but not stuffed. The service was good and professional, a bit slow at times since two waiters were handling about 12 people including us plus a bigger group of 12 or so. The food was slower paced but likely due to everything being made to order. The decor was nice but a bit loud - needs a few more sound absorption panels. The presentation and plating very good.
(3)Jeff C.
All around great experience here, really. We miscommunicated with our waiter ( I think it was our fault) but he was gracious and professional about fixing the problem. I had lamb, which was perfectly cooked and gently seasoned. The rest of our party loved theirs too. Nothing more to say, this was great.
(5)Sherry J.
On three recent occasions, with three different groups of people, I dined at VM. The creatively superb Italian cuisine is wonderfully presented, with excellent service and sophisticated ambiance. Their fixed menu for lunch and dinner is a bargain. Their wine list, fine, loved the Primativo from Puglia. The food compares with the best restaurants in DC.
(5)Karl B.
Superb food, excellent service. My wife had the terrina and steak. I had the del mare and quail. Every dish was exceptional.
(5)Al K.
This is an outstanding restaurant. The food is out of this world and the service is impeccable. We had the tenderloin tips and it was buttery tender. It was served with salsify which is something I had never heard of but was prepared beautifully. All complemented with an arugala salad and a bottle of champagne and it was a fantastic meal.
(5)A. S.
Went here for our anniversary dinner. The place is small and the setting is intimate--be prepared to be seated closely next to other diners. They bring you breadsticks, bread (ciabatta), and amuse-bouche, which is nice. Our amuse was a zucchini soup garnished with goat cheese. Bright green and creamy yet light at the same time. Very good. For appetizers we had polenta (delicious) and a butter lettuce salad (pretty good). For mains we got the pumpkin gnocchi, which had a very very subtle pumpkin flavor, and the rose-shaped pasta filled with braised rib meat. The filling was velvety and delicious. The portions were small, but I expected that. The real highlight, though, was dessert. I got the chocolate mousse and he got the sorbet. The mousse was the richest, silkiest mousse I've ever tasted, and it came with caramelized bananas, which went well. The sorbet was one scoop each of mint, strawberry, and blueberry. They were all good but the strawberry was incredible--so smooth and creamy that it was more like ice-cream than sorbet. It was a good meal and I'd like to go back again to get the chocolate pappardelle, which sounds interesting. Recommended for a special occasion.

My husband and I love, absolutely love, Villa Mozart. We stumbled across it once when we first moved to Fairfax and eventually got engaged after an evening there. We try to go at least once or twice a year because even though it's a bit on the expensive side for us, the food never disappoints, the service is impeccable, and the ambiance is spectacular. I highly recommend Villa Mozart!
(5)Jennifer M.
My husband and I went here for our 2 yr. anniversary because we'd honeymooned in Italy. We both agreed that this was on par with one particular meal we had in Torgiano in Umbria and that was one of the best meals we've ever had. Our feast for the evening consisted of wild mushroom soup, salmon carpaccio, beef tenderloin in an oxtail red wine reduction, lobster risotto, chocolate polenta with a Grand Marnier sauce and limoncello souffle. All was absolutely superb and delivered competently and graciously. It doesn't get much better than this!
(5)Molly T.
We went one evening on a whim( the kind of whim you make a reservation for), and were pleasantly surprised with this Fairfax gem. This restaurant has changed hands so many times it makes my head spin, but I hope that Villa Mozart will be around for awhile. I went with a party of four. We shared the Caprese appetizer, which was a wonderful beginning to the meal. The buffalo was really tasty. I had the: CHEF ANDREA'S HOMETOWN RAVIOLI. The Rye half-moon shaped ravioli were cooked perfectly and the ingredients meshed well together: mountain cheese, baby leaf spinach, chives, Grana Padano shavings. My Mother had the Rose-shaped pasta with braised meat, which she enjoyed. Our party also had the Pumpkin gnocchi and the Enne Martelli, Penne and Maine lobster balsamico tradizionale. We all tried bites of each others' meals and were very pleased overall. Well cooked, well seasoned, nicely plated, arrived promptly. good service. I'd definitely return. Our glasses were always full and two gentleman walked around with a little basket of bread so our bread plates were never empty either. It reminded me of Little Red Riding Hood, if she were a middle aged 6'4" male. It was delightful. Wonderful time. One aside: Please dress appropriately. Although I don't believe they have a dress code, this is NOT the place for jeans.
(4)Lisa C.
This is a very good restaurant with very good service in the heart of Fairfax City. One of our favorites since it opened. I love the romantic aura with the soothing gray walls and the simpleness of the decor. The red roses on the tables are a nice touch. The presentation of the food here is much more artful than your usual Italian fare, and stands out relative to its surroundings. And the flavors all go very well together. The best entree that I have had at Villa Mozart was a lovely fettuccini alfredo with fresh shaved white truffle which was a seasonal special in the fall. And yes, it was an expensive entree (~$65) but hey, I could spend 5 times that on a pair of shoes that I won't remember for the rest of my life let alone next year. I can still taste that truffle. Mmmmmm.... Additionally, I enjoy the beef carpaccio with foie gras. Quite a lovely presentation, almost too pretty to eat. And we love the apple strudel dessert. Quite yummy. Be prepared for appropriate (not super size) portions. This is NOT the Olive Garden, so if you are seeking giant portions of food, then this is not the place for you. This place is much classier, the food is higher quality, and is made with care. Dining experiences should not be about how much bread is provided, whether the restaurant staff made you "linger" while reviewing the menu (maybe they think you want to take your time -- if you don't, and want to order immediately, tell them, they can't read minds, and you need to set the tone in order to get better service), or whether or not you leave feeling "stuffed". My only negative comment about Villa Mozart is that the restaurant is small and the noise volume tends to go up on busy weekend evenings. A hint to diners who tend to have "bad" experiences in restaurants: Become a regular and get to know the staff and owner(s). We have a favorite waiter (Oskar - who knew us from the previous Le Tire Bouchon in this space) that we request and he always takes very good care of us. The staff is very well-trained and attentive so not sure why other diners have had trouble. Also, dress up a bit out of respect for the dining establishment. And be polite. You will be remembered.

In one word: amazing. The restaurant is small, so definitely make a reservation. Villa Mozart is convenient to our home in the Oakton area so we gave it a whirl tonight for our 2012 Valentine outing. Service was spot-on and the food was delicious. The breadsticks were crunchy, with tons of herbs and the bread was served with room temperature butter (a huge plus in my book). We even got an amuse bouche: a crisp with ricotta, kalamata olives and a frisee salad (I make a similar app called "purple dip." Needless to say, we loved it) Hubby had the risotto with wild boar sausage and I had the Chef's hometown ravioli. The ravioli was simple, but all the flavors shined through: the spinach stuffing, the cheese ribbons on top, the rye pasta dough, the butter sauce. Heaven in a bowl. The risotto was creamy and perfect. We both agree that wild boar is our new favorite animal to eat. For dessert, we had the tiramisu and the special. We still don't know what the special really was-it was a cake with chocolate filling of sorts and some crunchy coating on the outside-but it was served with a refreshing raspberry sorbet and a caramel sauce. I had a nicely sized cappuccino with dessert. We will definitely return-great food for a reasonable price and the service was great. Like Da Domenico, Villa Mozart makes you feel like a million bucks no matter who you are.

My girlfriend and I decided to go all out for New Years, and Villa Mozart had received, from what I found online, excellent overall reviews. Upon being seated at the restaurant, we were rudely greeted by a stone faced waiter who supplied us only with a "new years menu" which required us to order 3 courses from a set menu. This fixed menu was not advertised online and therefore I felt conned into spending far more money than I had originally intended. The waiter then proceeded to pester us (at least 4 times) to place our orders, hardly giving us time to read the food descriptions and leaving us feeling extraordinarily uncomfortable and rushed. He literally stood over the table while we finished deciding what we wanted. The food was far from satisfactory. I order a penne and lobster in which the lobster was barely even visible and tasted less than fresh---unacceptable considering I paid probably aboutat least $30 for it. I would never suggest this restaurant to anyone, an enormous waste of money and terrible experience.

Amazing birthday dinner! Amuse bouche: Polenta soup with Gorgonzola foam and truffle oil Appetizer: White asparagus with prosciutto and mustard vinaigrette Dinner: Veal and Porcini Ragu on homemade parpadelle Dessert: Chocolate Polenta souffle with Grand Marnier creme Delicious! The Mon-Thurs pre-fix is an incredible bargain.

I've eaten here three times, and each time it was a great experience. The meal starts with an amuse-bouche, compliments of the chef, and each time it really set the tone. Once it was a tempura fried squash blossom and another time we had a celery/leek cream soup in a little shot glass. The waiter (an older gentleman) was attentive, knowledgeable, and accommodating. When my dad couldn't decide between two dishes, the waiter kindly volunteered to serve him a half-portion of each. He also suggested a great wine pairing with our main courses. My favorite dish here is the penne martelli, which has large pieces of lobster meat tossed with penne in a bit of olive oil and drizzled with aged balsamic vinegar. It's simple but the flavors are amazing. I have also tried the gnocchi and the linguine del mare, and both were excellent. For dessert I've tried the semifreddo and the tiramisu, also amazing. I've always called ahead and made reservations, because the dining area is pretty small. I recommend you do the same, especially on a weekend evening. This is our favorite "special occasion" dining, because it is so intimate.

Who knew the city of Fairfax would have a great restaurant. All the great places of fine dining such as Noodles and Company, Quiznos, and Dunkin Donuts, it would be obvious that a great restaurant such as this one would be found in "downtown" Fairfax City. Fine Italian food at it's heart is principally very simple. Fresh rustic ingredients with no more than say 6 total ingredients, and proper execution of the actual cooking. It's also the cuisine which is most often butchered, I would say Italian food is either first or in a close tie with Chinese food as being the worlds most over exposed and most under appreciated foods. This isn't going to be your traditional family style Italian with big plates of pasta, big hunks of meat, and Chianti. This is more of your Mario Bateli reinterpretation of dishes, and creation of new dishes using Italian flavor combinations and techniques. One of the key mistakes I feel that is made in Italian food is the over powering of flavors, too much basil, too much oregano, or taking a savory dish and turning it into a salt lick. I may be as a big as a cow but I don't eat like one. Villa Mozart knows secret to Great Italian food and is more than capable of executing on a consistent basis. The atmosphere is very intimate and is the perfect quiet "impress my date" restaurant, at the same time it delivers completely on the food. We ordered the IL CARPACCIO for our appetizer, this includes, thinly sliced beef (razor thin) tenderloin with foie gras garnished with micro arugula and balsamico tradizionale. First of all foie gras is probably good with just about anything, I could eat foie gras with dirt. There carpaccio is the perfect palate teaser for a good dinner. It's very light, flavorful, and wets your appetite for more. It's like...foreplay... My girlfriend ordered the Le Rose, which was a hand rolled pasta with pheasant and asparagus, in a green sauce which was just out of this world. It's the first time I've enjoyed such an original dish. I ordered the RISOTTO OLLO which is Organic Aquerello risotto with Maine lobster and mushroom. Risotto to me is the test of any restaurant claiming to be Italian, or attempting to cook Italian dishes. This place passes with flying colors, the sauce was rich and colorful, yet did not overpower the lobster flavor itself. Even without the lobster bits the Risotto provides ample enjoyment for your mouth. I have to say this is the best meal out I've had all year! One other item of note their bread is great, it smells fantastic, it's fluffy and soft in the middle, and has the crunch and break of french bread on the outside. I give this a Fat Head-Four Star Rating...you will eat so much it makes your head fat! My new rating system: BELLY FAT = 1 Star = It's only good to fill your stomach in the event of a nuclear fall out. FAT ASS = 2 Stars = It's good enough that you can sit hear and add some junk to the trunk. MAN BOOBS = 3 Stars = It's good, so be prepared to develop man boobs. FAT HEAD = 4 Stars = It's really good so after the fat is packed onto your gut, rump, and boobs, it will have to find a release in your big fat head. SUMO = 5 Stars = It's good enough that you should use this as a primary source of consumption to become a professional sumo wrestler.

My favorite "special" place. Phenomenal food and service. Love, love, love this place.

Though the service and ambiance were still excellent, the food wasn't anything to write home about. My husband got the orecchiete pasta and the bistecca. He found the bistecca to be bland and the orecchiete was maybe just a few steps up from Chef Boyardee. I had the day's prix fixe which gave me the option between a salad or soup and then an option between a pasta or meat dish. I opted for the salad and the meat dish which was beef sirloin in a red wine sauce. The beef was tender and had a nice flavor, but it looked like a can of Alpo on the plate. The prix fixe dessert was some sort of chocolate hazelnut mouse. I was slightly disappointed with our meal and I'm not in any hurry to return.

Took my dad here for his birthday! Love the little cozy atmosphere (hate the parking) but all aside, the atmosphere is fantastic. The waiter was very very nice and helpful on advising certain dishes. The steak I had was cooked perfectly. My dad especially enjoyed his meal. Now, one thing they did cook to perfection was the Apfelstrudel. I'd had this plenty of times in its homeland (Austria), and this actually was the first place where it's been cooked perfectly!! Great Place, and I'll have to make it back ...one of these days. The next time will be much better, as I will be paying for myself. :-) Yay

This is a terrific place for dinner if you want a quiet place where you can enjoy good conversation without straining to hear, and memorable food. No other restaurant in Fairfax City provides cooking of this quality. You will pay for it, of course.

Good food. Was a bit shocked when the check came. Not much for parking either.

My wife had the venison ... it was outstanding (I wish I had ordered it). She got the last order they had that night - so ... come early! The place was bustling and, for a small restaurant, I'd have to say that everyone there looked just as happy as we were. I had the risotto, which was good ... but ... damn ... next time, it's venison. The service was attentive, but impeccable. We will return!!!

I went to Villa Mozart in late December of 2011 and the food and service was extraordinary. The chef sent out an amuse-bouche which, I've found, is not as common as it used to be (but a very classy touch). The waiter was knowledgeable but not overbearing and the atmosphere was quiet without seeming empty. Though this isn't the least expensive restaurant in the area (some reviewers have noted that it gets a little pricey), I feel that the food and atmosphere is well worth the price and would probably be much more expensive in other parts of the D.C. area. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone and plan on going back soon.

We tried the venison carpaccio appetizer followed by rockfish and pheasant. We liked the rockfish and pheasant but did not like the venison carpaccio -- perhaps that was the venison but there was also some sweet flavored sauce on top that did not match well with the venison. My husband, who is Italian, did not feel the dishes we selected were Italian, but then again we did not try any of the traditional Italian dishes, so perhaps that was our fault. The ambience was very nice but it was on the pricey side. The traffic (caused by three concerts at GMU with a single two lane road into the campus) was absolutely horrible. The staff was very helpful and got us in and out quickly so we could make our concert -- they were very nice!

Holy molly. Food here was unbelievable! It's a teeny little place so I would advise a reservation. Only little glitches were that our table was not ready when we arrived (due to prior party remaining long after bill was paid) and there is no real space to wait which had us standing awkwardly in the entrance. The staff was great, the food was even better. I took a bite of food and cussed! that's never happened before, but I look forward to having it happen again. Note - parking for the restaurant is a little obscure and not an easy access, it's a teeny little alley right by the building and a severly sharp turn in from the street.

We had a lovely evening. Imaginative and yummy food.

We have been wanting to go here for a while so we were really excited when we suddenly had a reason to celebrate. It was great from the beginning. A very small place with the excellent service that you would expect at this price point. I'm taking off 1/2 a star for the servers lack of wine knowledge and only another 1/2 star for the pasta being packaged and not fresh made. My other half thinks this was hugely disappointing since it was the penne and lobster, making the entire dish less desirable. But everything else was so good that I am giving them a bit of a pass on the pasta. We started with prosecco, followed by gazpacho shots compliments of the chef. I got the soup special for appetizer, artichoke with seared jumbo scallops, which was hands down the most delicious soup I've ever had...seriously, I wanted to order more! We also had the other scallop appetizer with black truffle which was served cold but also very tasty. His entree was the quail, which he thoroughly enjoyed. Then we had one each of the dessert specials, chocolate panna cotta and a hot crispy apple roll (like a giant eggroll) served with melted vanilla ice cream and topped with nuts. We finished with a glass of grappa, which we didn't much care for. The entire dining experience was excellent and we will definitely go back.

Been here twice. Service was excellent both times. That being said, the food left a lot to be desired. For these prices, I was expected to be knocked off my chair with what I was eating. I don't consider myself a connoisseur of fine dining, but I know a good meal when I taste it. I've tried a wide variety of dishes in my time and this missed the mark. For these prices, I'd rather visit The Capital Grille, Potenza, Chima, or Foga de Chao.

The portions are tiny and uninteresting, and the entire menu is overpriced. Avoid.

We came here to celebrate my mother's birthday and while we weren't disappointed per say, we were not impressed. Overall the food was decent, but nothing blew me away. We started with the sauteed calamari appetizer which comes in a spicy tomato sauce with peas and two crostini. This was by far the best thing we had. The calamari was very fresh, cooked perfectly and in a sauce that really complemented the calamari's flavor without overwhelming it. We also tried the lamb special, the orcheitta with sausage and olives, and the fettuccine in classic bolognase sauce. Generally, everything was good. The pasta is definitely homemade and it shows. The bolognase was fine, but I could make the same at home. The lamb was poorly executed - they didn't ask how we wanted it cooked and then it came out medium well, and the seasoning couldn't have been more than salt and pepper. The chops themselves didn't seem like particularly good cuts of meat and it came with a small potato cake and three spears of asparagus. Finally, we had the creme brule which had been hastily finished; the top was half burned, half raw sugar. As for portion size, they were certainly in the category of fine dining but verged on small in my opinion. Pulling off fine Italian dinning can be challenging, and I applaud this restaurant's efforts, but to be worth the price you have to bring something new, different and exciting to the table. The standard classics are simply too familiar and too easily replicated to serve them up at close to $20 a plate. The service and ambiance are great, and the food is fine, but I don't think I'll be back.

Went on a Monday night. Stuffy crowd but decent food. The wild boar was tender and came with delicious sides, especially the chive potato tortino, which was smooth and creamy. I agree with Miki, waiter seemed a bit overwhelmed but professional nonetheless. The ambiance ok but a bit bright for my tastes. Pricey as compared to others but this place prides itself on culinary detail and mastery.

went here for office holiday dinner. 10 of us in their private room off to the right as you walk in. Very nice, comfortable setting. excellent service, good selection of wine. The cream of celery soup was terrific, as was the lentil soup, and the goat cheese appetizer as well, compliments of Chef Andrea. Thank you Chef! Calamari appetizer was a little chewy, but the sauce.....YUM!! Had the veal, cooked just right. Others had the rockfish, lamb, beef tenderloin, and a pasta dish. Everyone was pleased. Desserts--fabulous. Best Creme Brulee I've had, and a delicious chocolate souffle. After dinner drink wasa chef selected Moscato D'Asti that we all raved about. Can't wait to buy some for home. Would we go back?? ABSOLUTELY!!

Best restaurant in Fairfax, best food, best service. Simply put.

Recommend the tortelli, linguini martelli and beef tenderloin. Apps, dessert and some entrees are pricey but there are some solid options at fair prices. I would def go back. Lighter authentic Italian. Great place for a nice dinner without going to DC. Not hard to get a reservation and location can be a plus. Def go during the week for the best deal.

I took my wife to Villa Mozart for a Valentine's Day lunch. My wife and I chose lunch because our kids are home in the evening, so this was our attempt at a brief romantic getaway without the kids. We found this to be a charming, small little hideaway and were generally pleased with the whole experience. There were three minor hiccups that kept us from giving this five stars. (1) When we called the day before to ask about the menu, they told us they weren't sure but would probably have a fixed price menu for 20 or 25 dollars. It would be nice to sort out these kinds of details ahead of time - and the price turned out to be 28. The price was no big deal, but the fact that they didn't know these details the day before came off as a little sloppy. (2) There were a few crumbs on the table cloth when I arrived - again, not a big deal, but a place like this needs to attend to those kinds of details. (3) We were the first to arrive for lunch and they chose to seat us in the middle of the dining room. They then chose to sit the next party to arrive - a bunch of loud businessmen - right next to us. It would have been nice if they sat the first couple to arrive on Valentine's day in the smaller room or off in the corner. This is a terrific place overall. The difference between a 4-star and 5-star rating is in all the little details.

Excellent food. The lobster penne was especially good. Very upscale so be prepared to spend money. I liked the service, but really I came for the food so I'm sold.

For an upscale Italian joint, this place gets 2 stars from me and here is why. The portions are not that filling compared to their pricing. And yes, I am fully aware of the portions that come with fine dining, but this killed it. We ordered the salad with raspberry vinaigrette for antipasti. This is what the dish looked like - There was a big slice of red tomato in the middle and surrounding it were other grape tomatoes and alfalfa sprouts on top. The raspberry vinaigrette was bright in flavor, but the olive oil overwhelmed the salad. For the main course, I ordered CHEF ANDREA'S HOMETOWN RAVIOLI. This was very disappointing. I do not mean to offend the chef's hometown recipe, but it's just like ravioli which chopped spinach inside, and you get only 6 for 19 dollars. Chef Boyardee ravioli has over 15, and that is the small can size for less than 3 dollars and it tasted even better. My friend ordered Le Rose which was interesting. There were 2 big (it was actually not that big, should change to medium size) pastas, shaped like a rose which were poorly constructed, filled with just what seemed like ground beef. The menu claims that it's braised rib meat, but that's highly doubtful in this case. The pasta was complimented by "light beef jus" which was alright.. The service was just plain, once you enter the maitre D' quickly assists you to a table, 3 minutes later he comes back to the table and we find out that he's also the waiter.. The fact that our waiter was the maitre D' wasn't the problem, but he couldn't handle on doing both when customers started coming in. We had to wait 5-10 minutes in between to order wine, salad, and entree, which was rather annoying. The interior was nice and ambient, complimented by candles. Only nice thing I can say about this restaurant is the wine menu. Parados Cabernet, one of my favorite was on the menu for only 8 dollars by the glass, which is hard to find. Usually it's around $11-12. I wouldn't really recommend this place to anyone, it just seemed like a waste of money. There are better fine Italian cuisine in the Fairfax area.

Great food. Great service. Nice ambiance. We were there on a Thursday night -- after we'd first seen the house we ended up buying. We didn't know it was a dress-up kind of place (most men were in suits, women in dresses), but my wife and I had both come from work so we were okay. We didn't have reservations but were seated after only a couple of minutes. The breadsticks, bread, and amuse-bouche were perfect starters. I had the Penne Martelli (penne w/lobster) and the Mrs. had pennette with pancetta -- both were outstanding. The price is high and the portions are measured (not small but not big either), but you leave satisfied (if wanting more). Our waiter was friendly and professional, and the service in general was just right; we were taking our time drinking our wine and discussing the house we'd just seen, and we never felt rushed (or neglected). All in all, this is a great spot for a special night or just a damned good meal.

Took my wife here to celebrate our anniversary. It was not crowded on a Tuesday evening, and our experience here will make us a regular for special occasions. Decor - minimal, with lots of grey tones and silvers. Chic and comfortable without being pretentious. Service - our waiter David was terrific, and attentive to our needs but not overbearing. He was very friendly and informative about the menu and food. Food - my wife and I each ordered the 3 course prix fixe menu. Her: pea soup with Parmesan cream, crusty veal chop with artichoke hearts and baby eggplants, and orange chocolate polenta souffle with creme anglaise. Each dish was executed expertly, and the flavors melded together wonderfully, especially the creamy pea soup and the cooked to order chop. Me: panzarotti (a trio of warm cheese bread, marinated eggplants, and burratta cheese), cavaletti pasta with clams, zucchini, and black truffle, and fresh apple strudel with vanilla sour cream ice cream. Loved each dish, particularly the garlicky eggplant, the new calvaletti pasta (think of it as a compressed penne, a satisfyingly chewy pasta perfect for sopping up sauce), and the tang of sour cream in the dessert. In our opinion, these were excellent Italian dishes that were well prepared. I didn't initially think that I would leave a place like this full, but we happily did. Price - reasonable, although probably high for Fairfax standards. These are DC/NYC level prices, but if it saves me a trek into DC and its 10% tax then I am all for it. The prix fixe is $39, or $49 if you order a meat/seafood entree, and is available Monday through Thursday. What pleasantly surprised me though is that each dish was full-portioned, and not minimized based on the reduce price of the prix fixe; that always is a bonus in my book. Definitely recommended for special occasions and real dates.

Always on the look out for excellent cuisine, the ratings here caught my eye before anything. It is in the middle of the Fairfax bar scene, but is a hidden gem. I have cooked and tasted different Italian foods for years and without a doubt this place was just as good. I was disappointed that they did not have the goat on the menu when we went, but the rack of lamb was incredible. As expected the service was great as it is a white tablecloth type of restaurant. The whole meal was outstanding and we didn't even have any of the wine which is something people like about it. They made a very impressive artichoke puree soup with scallops as that was a special on the night we went. Just a note for anyone that drives there: the parking is tough to find, very small and right off of Chain Bridge, be careful pulling in! Otherwise, very original and outstanding.
