Went here after seeing the reviews. It was good, but nothing that makes it exceptionally good. If there's one thing to note, THE PORTIONS ARE VERY BIG. My siblings and I can easily finish a bowl of chipotle (with extra rice), but we shared two dishes among three people. Extreme drunken noodles were very good. I liked that it wasn't too greasy, and it had a good amount of vegetables. Pad thai was a little bit too dry. Maybe a little too much peanut flavor? I like my food with generous amounts of vegetables, which might be the reason why I didn't like it very much, but my siblings also liked the drunken noodle more, so maybe others might agree? Also, we're fan of spicy food, so we got it "Thai Hot", but it wasn't really spicy enough for us. That was slightly disappointing. But we're the people who drowns our food in sriracha sauce or tabasco hot sauce, so;;;; Overall, very good :) I just think it's a slightly pricier than most other thai restaurants :(

Very disappointed to see how much this place has deteriorated since it first opened. Last 3 meals were much worse than normal. Staff is best described as surly now. Appetizers arrived with dinner (??!). Water took 17 min to arrive at table. At one point both front staff incl manager were on phone at same time leaving bus staff to serve customers. And of course there was the food. What we ordered spicy was not. What we ordered medium was spicy. Very little was fresh. Everything with much more oil than before. I don't know if management has changed(?), but this is not the nice local Thai place we once enjoyed Diner beware!

Decent Thai restaurant, but it could be better! When I first visited this restaurant, they gave complementary salads (lettuce with some kind of creamy dressing), but they no longer do that. Normally, I'd be sad about missing out on something like this, but it was very out of place especially at a Thai restaurant. Since then the quality of the food has gotten better and so has the service! It's a pretty fun atmosphere with everything being beach themed - definitely not your classic Thai restaurant decor. During my last visit, I enjoyed the Gai Grob - the chicken was (mostly) crispy and I liked the crunchy basil! The Thai tea was also pretty solid - creamy and not too sweet. The mango sticky rice was just alright. Some parts of the rice were undercooked and to be honest, the sprinkles thing might've made it look more "fun", but it was kinda weird and unnecessary. All the times I've been here the restaurant hasn't been very crowded and the service has never been bad. I think the more popular Thai dishes like pad se ew and curries could be improved upon, but the entrees with rice are usually pretty good. Because of the inconsistencies of my visits, I'd have to give a 3/5. If I come back again, it'll probably be for the Happy Hour specials!

I had to knock this down by a star because of the terrible appetizer I had tonight - the mussels were the most disappointing I've ever had in my life. They didn't have any spice, and they didn't taste fresh. You should probably stick to the popular Thai dishes here. Also, the banana dessert wasn't great - I liked the vanilla ice cream more than the banana flambé. After the meal tonight, I realized you are getting average Thai food at a high price. The service also wasn't as good this time as last time - the servers were even confused as to who was covering our table. Hence the updated "average restaurant" three-star rating.
(3)Brooke R.
The staff was nice and friendly, and the decor is fun. The menu was extensive and different than most Thai places I've been. We went during lunch and had their lunch special - any entree came with a spring roll and salad - both very, very, good. I ordered the beef Pai Thai and ate every bit of it. It was flavorful, not greasy, and plenty of food. Glad we went and will be back! ***Oh almost forgot they have wine Wednesday's!! Half price glass of wine or half price bottles all day :)

Considering the 30 degree temps, have my mind and body yearning for a beach vacay, Similans beach decor was the closet/cheapest thing to a beach that we could experience at the moment. Womp. Womp. Arriving at the table there was a wooden sign brightly colored with our party's name on it, a nice touch for a birthday party. We started with the larb gai, then veered off to try the red curry, the drunken noddles, and chicken with green beans, can not recall its actual name! One thing we all noticed when the food was brought up was this, are these portions for babies?!!?!?!? For 5 ladies we were so confused like is this it!? Who, what, where, when, how?! (Reference my pictures for evidence) Note to yelpers: they charge a $1 dollar cutting fee if you bring in a dessert, our dessert was birthday cake. I'm willing to try this again, because it was clean and had a fun atmosphere, the food however, I gotta give it another chance, because it didn't leave a huge, we hit the jackpot impresson!
(3)Veronica C.
Really like there's a neighborhood that place. I walked in with noo high expectations. My boyfriend and I went in and the place was empty . Later maybe 2 couples came in. So we decided to sit at the bar. The pad thai was dry and not as tasty. The panang curry was on point. Enough chicken and veggies to fill for two people. The thai tea was good too, not too sweet. Second time around, there was a crowd, The bar area was full and the dining floor was busy. This time there was a new bartender. Not bad. Stick with basics- beer & wine. The drunken noodles was saucy and soft. I'm a huge fan of eggplant, so I ordered the green curry. It was soo good. I recommend Similans Thai for take-out or simple dine in. Nothing fancy, just plain casual with family or friends. One advice for the restaurant...find your niche....the ambiance you're going for, I have no idea what it is. If it's beach feel, then stick to it.
(3)Matt N.
We ordered the The Youngster it was meh, the tum yum was very bland for that type of soup, it needed more flavor like lemongrass or something but its mising some ingredients..the best was the chicken larb. Service was excellent but I'm there for the food.
(2)Sherry B.
I consider today my lucky day! :) Walked in hoping for something different and I got it! Soft shells crabs season are on!!! I am not a seafood lover but I loved it. I believe the crab season will be over soon, so hurry up
(5)Agnes N.
Sign out front bragging about their "fresh whales." I thought it was illegal to sell whale meat in the US. Even if it's not, this is just too much for me. I'll post a pic of the sign.
(1)Jina Y.
The staff were all very friends and quick. The food even came out faster than I expected. Sounds weird, but dinner only took 35 minutes.... ?! That's including sitting down, ordering, and getting drinks (water). I ordered the extreme drunken and I loved it. It was spicy and flavorful. The colored peppers were sweet and went well with the noodles. I'd definitely go back again. The restaurant was very nice and it was a good vibe.

SAVE THE WHALES!!!!! Similians Thai Restaurant is a cozy little beach themed thai spot in the Greenbriar Shopping Center of Fairfax (Chantilly-ish). Everything is fluorescent and bright, they play good beach style music and its kind of a welcome change to the dingy dimly lit restaurants/bars. Its a fun place with a really great happy hour. This is why I was shocked when the first review that popped up when I checked in was a 1 star review. What I read made me laugh out loud then get kind of angry. One of the specialty dishes at the restaurant right now is soft shelled crab which is only in season a limited time. I did not eat this but have heard good things. This is one of their specials advertised on the outside chalkboard sidewalk menu. For those of you in the know, or for those who have google or who aren't afraid to ask, these soft shelled crabs have a name...it is "whale". Because we live in the United States and because most people know that whale meat is not a thing that would ever be featured on a menu here, reading an advertisement mentioning "whale" makes you want to know exactly what that means because you KNOW what it cannot mean. From what I understand one of the first rules of Yelp club is that you first visit an establishment and then you write a review. You do not do a drive by with a camera and then give something 1 star because you are clueless. Soooo...the happy hour at Similian is why I give this place 5 stars. Everyone there is friendly, the bar has a cheery and bright mood and they have craft beer on draft for $3 and $5 appetizer snacks. Happy hour does end at 6:30 instead of 7:00 which is a bit disappointing. But on Fridays...yes Friday, they have a special mystery craft or import beer (good ones every week) on the menu for $3 the entire day and night. This means when happy hour ends, you can still drink good beer for the lowest price probably in the entire county. I also don't really like or know Thai food, but the dishes I had were very good. Making a picky eater like me happy means something. So stop by for happy hour, try a few snacks, take a date there, or enjoy a fun Friday night. Just be sure to try the whale! Pro Tip: Visit a restaurant first, and THEN review it.

Great little spot in greenbriar shopping center! It's a really quaint beach themed place. We asked today was similan stood for and they said its a beach in Thailand. So in the background There is always island reggae music playing! The menu is pretty extensive in terms of selection and choices. Their lunch time deals include a little side salad and eggroll. I got the pad see ew, and it was delicious! I've been here twice now, and I'll be bak again! And they deliver ;)
(4)Kino A.
I came here again to give it another shot. This is the second time they again did not serve our food at the same time and came out one dish at a time. My friends were halfway through their meal before mine came out. Their main dishes here are BLAND and not flavor INFUSED it just feels like they cook the meat until it browns and then adds veggies and then spices. Let it heat a bit and then serves it. None of the flavors are infused and it's bland. My friend ordered the panang curry and it was wet and no peanut flavor. I ordered the ginger beef and it tasted like an unseasoned meat and no ginger flavor. It tasted like they dumped the ginger 1 second before they served it. I also ordered the Tom Yum. It was so tangy that my throat started hurting They need to cook their food in the flavors.

My new "go to" place for Thai food. I've been here 4 times and service has been consistently good. Got exceptional service from the server, Andrew, during the last visit. Must try the Crispy D, Whole Flounder, and Pad Thai (the best I've had).
(5)Jade N.
Before I give a rating of a local restaurant I try to visit it at least a few times. They offer a wide menu selection , some Thai and some Indian influences. I have now been here at least 5 times and must state that while it's good, neither the food nor the service are consistent . On a few occasions we went and it was dead, they were very attentive and the food was very good. On the few times we went and it was busy the service was awful and the food didn't seem as good. When compared to other Thai places in the area, for the price paid the portions aren't as generous. However when this place is good , it's very good and I hope they can work out the consistency so I can give it a higher review.
(3)Yelper O.
Don't order anything with seafood here. You get a few sorry looking seafood pieces that is not worth the extra $$$. Stick to chicken and beef when you are at this restaurant. Service could do better, not attentive at all and fills water only when you ask.
(3)Sara A.
Just went here for the first time! The food was freaking amazing! The service was great too. The pop pop shrimp was way better than... As stated in the menu haha. Loved it!
(5)Tisha B.
Just OK. I was hoping that now that they offer delivery within three miles they would be my go-to for local Thai food...unfortunately I just haven't been able to find my fav here in the Chantilly/Fairfax area. In a pinch this and one other restaurant will do but I don't find myself drawn there for any particular reason. I think the minimum for deliver was about $30 which for a two mile drive down the block seemed a bit steep. All in all - worth it if we are in the shopping center but I wouldn't go out of my way
(3)Rhonda R.
My first visit two weeks ago & had the drunkin noodles, YUMMO! Will definitely be back.
(5)Joanne K.
A nice little restaurant near our house with reliably good Thai food and friendly service. Love the beach atmosphere -- it reminds me of being on vacation, and you can't go wrong with the Monday - Friday happy hour specials. It's a perfect little neighborhood Thai eatery. I highly recommend the Tiramisu Martini! So yummy :)
(5)Adam L.
The quality of food here seems to have dropped off. It's like they stopped trying. The chicken & seafood doesn't seem fresh, the garden rolls I typically order are basically just lettuce in rice paper, and the delivery times are long. I've once again begun my search for quality Thai delivery in the area...
(2)Alfred L.
After dining here a few times now, it's been long overdue for a review. As many reviews have stated, the theme of the restaurant is a "beachy" theme. The servers were all very attentive, especially during a busy Thursday night. My wife and I had a few appetizers and shared two entrees, which were all very good. We suggest trying their pad see ewe and their chicken lettuce wraps.
(5)PJ S.
Great customer service from the bar, especially from this guy named Wen. Also was a huge fan of the ambiance of the restaurant. Highly recommend the Creme Brulé Martini as well as this deep fried ice cream dessert that they serve. Those two alone are worth a second visit.
(5)Kyle J.
Fantastic food, great atmosphere, friendly service and Founder's All Day IPA on tap.
(5)Rebecca G.
I love this place, the food, the staff, the decor. I can't wait to devour the Similans Flounder again but the salads are so awesome and substantial I rarely get past the Larb Gai or the Yum Eggplant Delight.
(5)Christina D.
This place is cute and the food was decent..but it was probably the worst service we've ever had. For that, we will probably not be back. We had the fresh rolls and tom kah gai to start, both were good. The veggies in the fresh rolls were flavorful. The tom kah gai was a little too sweet. For entrees, I had The Bomb-a steamed seafood dish with chili paste and veggies. It was pretty good, but the only flavor I could taste was spiciness, it lacked depth. There was nothing unique about the dish. My boyfriend had a beef entree that was under "The Similans Entrees" on the menu, but I do not see the name on their website. He says his wasn't that good and that the beef was tough. We both agreed that the portions were very small for the price that we paid, which was $15 an entree. I think people would expect more food. My dish at least had veggies, the beef dish just had thin slices of tough meat. As for the service, we were served by a young blonde waitress who took our order and never came back to the table to check on us or refill the water...but checked on the 2 tables next to us and refilled their water. The restaurant was not busy and I'm not really sure what she was doing instead of serving customers. She seemed to be hovering at the bar across the restaurant the entire time. We wanted more water and waited for her to pass our table about 5 times, completely ignoring us...so we had to ask another server, who never came back to our table. The table next to us (that sat down after us) had a different server, and he promptly refilled their drinks, came to check on them, and gave them their check without having to be flagged down. It wasn't until my boyfriend let out a sigh as she was walking by for the 6th time, did she ask if we needed something..and we asked for the check. She never asked how everything was, nor did she say thank you or have a good night (or anything polite). She just put the check down, picked it up after walking by our table another 3 times, and then set it back down and walked away...I would be more forgiving if it was busy, but I honestly feel like we didn't even have a server that evening.

First time to visit the place based on friend's advise. Excellent soft shell crab dish. Ambience nice and friendly staff. Will comeback.
(4)Evan N.
Just moved to the area and tried this restaurant because it was convenient and was pleasantly surprised. The curry and drunken noodles were delicious! The service was great and the staff was super friendly. Order curry, it was so good! So fresh!

Worst Thai food experience I've ever had in VA. Had a craving for something spicy and found this place on Yelp. Saw 4 stars and 116 reviews and thought "YES!" It was completely empty when we walked in. Granted it was close to 9pm and they close at 9:30, ok. Should've know just by the taste of the tap water it was going to be bad. We ordered the appetizer sampler and everything was old, chewy, and dry minus the fried tofu. Probably since that's the only thing they make fresh. The chicken satay was ok, the fried shrimp and calamari seemed old and then reheated. For entrees I got the chicken krapow extra spicy and my fiancé got the beef massaman curry. He is easy to please and he ate some of his dish but he later told me the curry was really bland and the beef was chewy. He said it seemed like the curry had been sitting all day and they just threw in a few pieces of beef they heated up. My dish came out looking unappetizing and bland. It had NO FLAVOR and the chicken tasted old, it even looked a little grey. I really tried to enjoy it by adding all the spices from the spice tray but the second piece of chicken I ate almost made me throw up. I told the server and switched it out for a Tom yum soup and papaya salad, extra spicy since the chicken had literally no spice. The soup tasted more like spicy tomato soup then of lemongrass and the salad was extremely spicy and salty. I eat Thai food ALL THE TIME and I'm well aware what these dishes should taste like. I think this place serves a very Americanized version of Thai cuisine with shitty quality meat. I hope I don't get food poisoning tonight. I looked through the reviews more throughly afterwards and most of the 5 star ratings are from people with only a handful of reviews...red flag. Needless to say, I won't be back.
(1)Melanie N.
Had Suki Hang Talay today and it was amazing! I grew up next to Thailand, so I am always unable to find a Thai restaurant in the States that is authentic and enjoyable. At this restaurant, they take their Thai pride seriously as well as the alcohol. Atmosphere is nice and be achy. Reminds me of the beautiful beaches in Thailand. I would definitely come back for more dates with my husband.
(5)Libby S.
Came her with my daughter, we're not really into Thai food, so stick to what you know, wanton soup and rice, can't go wrong, all I can say is toooooo much pepper, wanton soup is chick broth and wanton noodles why the hell the pepper? Not needed, salt and salt and salt is what we were going for, not water and tongue swishes after each spoon full, the rice was nice, simple egg fried rice but again pepper... Why the pepper? My sister had a soft shell crab, it was more like veggie stick crab that the best way to describe it, completely edible thou For dessert we tried the coconut island, sticky rice and coconut ice creme, sticky rice had a sugar something on it and it was purple, coconut was coconut milk ice creme. Simply not what WE were expecting.....
(2)Sarah J.
Sad to say we drove out to Chantilly to try this place due to the reviews and the awesome photos. Upon walking in we asked for a booth and the 'greeter' said of course and waved me over to the booth section. I'm happy as can be until a waiter bum rushes me and stops me dead in my tracks, waving his hands, "reserved, reserved! This is reserved!" Umm- okay, was it reserved literally during the 3 seconds it took me to walk to the table? Because 'greeter' girl says its not. My friend was over it because it was bizarre and rude how the guy approached me, but I said we should sit at a tiny table and give it a shot. Where are all these amazing pictures of food coming from? The menu did not look appetizing at all and it was printed off of a computer (with very poor pixelization) and lamented. How is this place even classy enough to have reservations? The interior design? Yeah I mean, its nicer than Burger King but other than that- what are you talking about? Did I go to the wrong place? Noodles & Company looks fancier. We even asked 'greeter' girl about the reservations and she said nothing. No "Oh I'm sorry there was a mix up", NOTHING. "Reserved, reserved! This is reserved!" Yeah, time to go. Won't be back.
(1)Christine B.
We had the Panang Curry with chicken and the Ghetti-licious with egg noodles vice spaghetti. We got take out and both were steaming hot even when we got them home. The Panang was just the right amount of spicy with a delicious flavor. The seafood in the Ghetti was cooked to perfection. Highly recommended.
(5)Carly M.
I really, really wanted to like this place. It's within walking distance to our house and I liked the beachy décor. The first time we dined here we had a good experience. The food was fresh and hot and the service was good. We went back a second time and didn't have a great experience. Our server seemed overwhelmed - I ordered a glass of wine and then she immediately walked away without asking my husband if he wanted anything to drink. We placed an order for edamame and it came out with some pieces still frozen. The couple next to us seemed to have a few problems with their order too. We decided to give just ordering take-out a shot, but then we found a long hair in our food.
(2)Frank F.
I'm very picky about Thai food and this place passed my test! The food is high quality, excellent service and presentation, nice ambiance. I live nearby and this is my go to Thai spot! Highly recommend for a dinner out or even delivery
(4)Jesse C.
Very nice place to eat. The staff is very friendly and attentive. There is plenty of parking in this strip mall. Tonight we ordered a beef curry and chicken pad Thai. Both dishes were tasty. The prices are actually very reasonable compared to other Thai places. My beef would be the portion sizes. They seemed to be on the small side. Though that can be a good thing, my fat butt really doesn't need more :) I will be back to try more dishes.

We decided to try a new place for dinner and came here. Sadly, we had higher expectations. We arrived as a party of 7. We started off with the The Similans Sampler. Upon biting into the Chicken Satays, we realized that it was not fully cooked. The staff brought out new Satays, but that incident didn't bode well for the rest of the meal. We then had the Som Tum Deluxe and Beef Salad and they were okay. They definitely skimped out on the beef for the Beef Salad. Also, the beef sirloin should have been grilled whole and then sliced for the salad. It should not have been sliced and then grilled individually. That definitely made the beef tough and chewy. For our entrees we ordered the The Similans Flounder. It was nice that the fish was filleted and taken off the bone. However, it was slightly fishy and fresh seafood should never smell nor taste fishy. We also had Red Curry Pork and the pork was definitely overcooked. The Similans Pad Thai was good. However, the Rad-Nah Paradise was heavy on the soy sauce in the gravy. So that was a bit overpowering. We also had the Veggie Delight, which was fine. While the food didn't live up to our expectations, service wasn't that great either. The servers spilled fish sauce on one member of our party and all over the floor. That wasn't cleaned up immediately. When we asked for a new fork, one was given from the next table over. However, we had noticed earlier that the fork from that other table had fallen to the floor and was just placed back onto the table. It was not replaced with a new one. Overall, we will not be returning.

Wow! Great food, only surpassed by the friendly, efficient service. We were in town from NY for a wrestling tournament. Stopped in with my son and daughter. This is short because I'm actually writing it from my android phone...in the restaurant.
(5)Violette L.
Excellent thai food! I decided to try this when i was really yearning for thai and they didn't disappoint. The servings are large and delicious and carry out was fast. Some places i try the pad thai and it tastes very sour but not here. I will definitely keep ordering!
(5)Lolita O.
This is one of my favorite Thai places. Pad woon Sen here is better than anywhere else I have ever had. I have had to stop ordering pad woon sen from other places because I am ALWAYS disappointed. Similians always puts them to shame. Great ambience, good service, and they have some great happy hour specials. I love mostly everything I have had here. The only thing I would not get here again is the panang curry and that's only because I am weird and I like mine runny like a stew, and this place makes theirs too thick for my taste. I have just had better at other places. Either way, I highly recommend this place!
(4)Kristen C.
Ate here for the first time and was less than impressed. I ordered a seafood dish and the seafood was very overcooked. Furthermore, the shrimp were not fresh. Another person at the table had the drunken noodles and enjoyed them. So I guess if you go, just don't order seafood!

There is a reason you can't trust Yelp and their reviews. This is the second time that Yelp has deleted this review, for a "lack of discussing my customer experience." I've seen much less content in other Yelp reviews so I wonder what gives... Read further and see why they keep deleting it. Could it be that the owner is able to pay Yelp to alter reviews? You be the judge. Here is the review they keep deleting: I reviewed this place back in April of 2013. Food was great, service was excellent, and had a great overall dining experience. I learned in December of 2013 that there has been a "management shake-up" with at least 3 of the people (management/cooks) no longer at the restaurant and will not be back any time soon. Therefore, the food and service has gone downhill since then as those people made this restaurant. I had changed my review but Yelp recently deleted it for whatever reason (I could list a conspiracy theory about it having to do with the "new management", but I'll withhold judgment). So for you folks that have gone to the restaurant in 2013, lemme know if the food and the dining experience is still the same in 2014. Good luck! That is the review they keep deleting. Why would the owner keep wanting this review deleted? Here is the story. The owner of this restaurant cheated out his partners who were supposed to be his friends and completely cut them out of the business. Those partners brought a wealth of experience to the restaurant. Since those partners left, the food has not been good. This situation literally left a bad taste in my mouth. I am able to speak of management changes to a restaurant as a part of my review, am I not Yelp? If it helps I will be more specific of what I ate in 2013 that tasted great. The spring rolls, the Pad Thai and the Mad Duck. Not so good any more once you know the true story. So YELP, is that a good enough customer experience for you? *** UPDATE on 10-27-14 And the plot thickens. I applaud an owner that tries to work the YELP system and increase his average stars, but seriously, this is down right unscrupulous. I get a Compliment from a user named Sebastian L, who tells me something along the lines of, nice review, but there are always 2 sides of a story, of which you will hear more about soon. So ominous... I click on this guys other reviews and, surprise, one review is of the Thai Similans (5 stars of course, saying it is the best thai restaurant in the area), and the other is for bonefish grill which basically says nice place, but Thai Similans is a much better place to have beer. Both written on the same day. Both reviews have poor grammar and is obviously written by someone whose native language is not english. Hmm... the owner of a Thai restaurant perhaps? Lets see how long those reviews last... You'll notice many other recent reviews (5 stars of course) that point to how great the alcohol selection is and how you should come for happy hour, how the mussels are not frozen, etc. And those reviewers happen to have a bunch of pictures and check ins at this restaurant, yet only have a few reviews altogether, which are obviously padded to make the reviewer seem legit. Seriously, this owner sits in his restaurant at his little table, thinking how he can pull the wool over your eyes with his fake reviews. He must think his customers are pretty stupid. To sum this up - you have an owner that has no business ethics whatsoever, who tries his darndest to get rid of 1 star reviews, and then posts fake reviews of his own restaurant. Seriously, you should be ashamed of yourself. You reap what you sow, my friend...

The pad thai dish was exactly what I was hoping it would be, not ever having had decent pad thai before today..... It was delicious!! Sort of sweet, but savory and the textures were all good. I loved the crushed peanut topping and the lime gave it some nice freshness. A total success in my opinion. I brought back the Kra-Pow for the boss man and he loved it! Was spicy enough even for the uprooted cajun! Now for the not so hot - salad? A joke. Spring Roll? B O R I N G I'm still trying to figure out the point of serving either.... the pad thai was pretty great all by itself. The salad and roll just took away from the pleasure of the meal. Apart from that, the restaurant is convenient and lovely. Service was prompt and friendly.
(3)Natalie Z.
I found my favorite place in greenbrier shopping center!!! love the nice interior design drunken noodle and the sticky rice dessert with mango is also notable. I haven't really had much Thai so regular, I will be a regular here since they delivery now.
(5)Abbey S.
It was very good, I stopped here while staying the the Fairfax area for work. They were super nice and the portions are a good size. I would recommend them to anyone passing through that would like some good Thai food.
(4)George C.
This place is great period. I've been to a lot of places and this one is the best so far.
(5)Rob S.
Fine and quaint setting with an extensive menu offering. Appropriate portion size to price for our dishes and everything was flavorful. Drunken Noodles and Hawaiian fried rice were our favorite! Good find on yelp!
(4)Catherine L.
Been here twice for lunch. Their Extreme Drunken and Pad Sea Ew are very good. Definitely will visit again and try more dishes. Reasonable price. Service is excellent too.
(5)Brandi K.
The staff were very nice, polite & dressed extremely well. The decor was beautiful. Service was quick & correct. Delicious crispy rolls & chicken pad thai to boot! This place is now my 2nd favorite (but most convenient) Thai restaurant. I look forward to dining in next time (using that check-in special) & checking out if they've got a good happy hour! THAT would probably boost them to 5 stars & my #1 favorite!

We typically order delivery from this place, and while we enjoy everything we've ordered (my favorite is basil tofu with eggplant under the vegetarian menu!! By the extreme drunken and kra pow are awesome too. Just about everything tastes great) and do think that the quality of food is good, the amount of food we get is really small for the price. We usually are having to order 3-4 dishes for the two of us

Good, fresh and clean. Our go-to thai place for dine-in or carry-out. I really like the Pad See Ew and Extreme Drunken.
(4)Rebecca A.
I am never disappointed with the food here. It always tastes amazing and is fresh. The chicken krapow is delicious. Just enough spice from the Thai chili pepper flakes to make your sinuses active! I've actually travelled to Thailand before and this place is the closest to the food I actually ate overseas. It's great! Highly recommended :)

This was the first time my wife and I had thai in Chantilly. When we walked in we were the only customers inside. The decorations were trendy however there were paintings on the wall with price tags on them. Kind of lame. The waitress was very helpful. And even turned on the news on the TV for us. The server always made sure my water was full but once my ice was gone he poured warm water in my glass. The inside was very hot and I kept fanning my hand and mentioned how hot it was but no staff offered to help. We ordered two appetizers and our entrées. They brout out our two appetizers plus my wifes entrée at same time. There were no chopsticks on the table. Only regular silverware wrapped in a napkin. This napkin was the only napkin on the table. When we asked for more we were each Givin 1. No condiments on the table. I'm giving this place 3 stars. Food was ok. Service could have been better.

We stopped at this place last night because the wait at bonefish Grill was 45 minutes and we were starving. The food came out in no time and it was delicious. We ordered the basil chicken which had this sweet and spicy, smoky flavor to it. I got a green Thai curry with chicken. That was also delicious although I don't like eggplant. The only downside is that they were out of sticky rice and mango and the waitress recommended the fried ice cream which is wrapped in a poundcake. That was not good. The cake was dry and had this artificial flavor to it, which was disappointment considering how fresh everything else was. The next time I'm in this area I will definitely stop by this restaurant again.

Great "Thailand tropic" atmosphere. Really great Thai food- very well done. We ate here twice in one week just to make sure we weren't fooling ourselves. Nestled in a gargantuan strip mall right west of Fairfax County Parkway on Route 50, Similan Thai cafe is small, but fun. Most entrees are about $10.00 even. Tons of appetizers to choose from...lots of shrimp and seafood all over the menu. The Thai curry dishes are awesome, so is the Hawaiian fried rice. It's nice when a ratty over crowded strip mall has someplace fun and quirky inside. 5 out of 5 given the price point, food quality and variety, quick and conscientious service, great decor, and low expectations. Also...lots of cheap drinks.

This is one of my favorite Thai spots in the area. I can only speak for the take-out, but I have had great customer service, it's a good value, and above all, the food is delicious. Their drunken noodles is one of the best I've had. The meat actually has flavor unlike most Thai places, which I feel just make bland chicken/meat to throw on top of any dish. This tastes made to order. I'm sold!

What a pleasant surprise for a decent Thai restaurant in the middle of a (very white) strip mall. Being a Thai food enthusiast I have to say that this place is worthy of at least one visit if you're in the Fairfax area. I mean really, these places are so random sometimes but it's a definite treat when you walk into the right one. Clearly I've been to enough wrong ones to be able to differentiate the good and the bad. Good life, it is. Cheers. Food: - Drunken Noodles with Chicken ($10.50): What an eye-catching dish. Beautiful thick colors from the peppers and basil coated in a lot of oil. Shiny at the right angles. Anyway, taste is very rich in the spices and soy sauce needed to make this dish. It comes out a little bit spicy so ask to tone it down if you're not wanting too much of a kick. The noodles are perfect and they are NOT joking when they're saying they are fat. These are like XL-how-did-you-make-this fat noodles, which tickles my fancy and pretty fun to eat. Chicken mixed well with the sauces and the whole balance of the dish. Great choice if you like the flagrant noodles. Solid 4-stars here. Pros: - Location makes it convenient for those around the area. - Interior is SO random. Who uses a boat/sea theme for a Thai restaurant? I guess it's supposed to mean something, but it had a tinge of a casual diner feel with the cuisine of a rich Thai culture. Weird but I guess it makes sense for them? - If you like waiters coming up to you 3x within the hour, this is a pro. Thanks for being attentive to us! Cons: - They really need to do something about these prices because it's horrible! It's not like you get a pile of food either, meh, I guess you're paying for the decor and location. Honestly the prices should be 2-3 bucks cheaper and you'd get so much more business! Especially for the quality of food. Thai food can go wrong in so many ways, but with this Drunken Noodle experience--I'm sure they have more to offer. My friend got the Pad Thai and she loved it, but sadly I didnt take a bite so it's hard to review that. Come try this place out :)

I love their food. I love the service. The manager is really cool and genuine. I have been going here since they opened and haven't stopped since. Only good things to say. PAD SEA EW IS MY FAVORITE!!!
(5)YungYing P.
I have been coming to this place since they opened. My friends and I go there often for lunch and dinner. Food is delicious and service is excellent. I love The Similans Gai Grob, Beef Massaman Curry and Extreme Drunken. The seafood dishes are fresh and tasty. We are always pleased with the quality of food, wonderful service, nice and clean atmosphere. It is definitely worth a try!

Best Thai food I've had in a while. Who knew that this little gem would be so close to home. Greenbriar shopping center has had its fair share of ups and downs with restaurants but I must say that this one is a keeper. Not only do they have amazing dishes but also great happy hour specials and the most relaxing atmosphere. I went with a friend on a Thursday evening and they sat us right away- the service was fantastic. While waiting for our fresh edamame we sat and listened to some great tunes including Jack Johnson, and other beach themed tunes to go along with the ambiance of the restaurant. We both love Pad see ew so we had to try it and I am so happy I did. I love trying new things on ethnic menus but I think I might have to stick with the veggie Pad see ew for my next visit. Fair prices, EXCELLENT food, Cannot WAIT to go back!
(5)Brandon G.
Love coming here for dinner and drinks. The menu offerings are diverse and far more than just Thai food. check it out!
(5)Jake B.
I've enjoyed some good meals here and really enjoy that gai grob. The food seems fresh and a good spot to fill your Thai fix but those spring rolls need to go. They seem like cheap frozen Thai spring rolls from the giant deli section. They must microwave them because after a few minutes they are cold and yucky.
(3)Nick R.
Great place! The food is great, atmosphere is nice, and the service is awesome. We both had Pad Thai and we're not disappointed. I will be back to try new dishes. I even got 10% off our bill for checking in on Yelp.
(4)Jay K.
The best food ever, elegant dinner restaurant, great seating, great location, delivers too and still fresh even when delivered.
(5)Istiaque H.
This restaurant did not satisfy my whim as I expected after viewing high review in yelp. The tom-yum soup lacks basic taste, salad is some what acceptable but the entree was disaster. They used several days old frozen chicken and beef. After the first bite me and my wife had decided that we ain't come back to this restaurant again.
(2)Norman's P.
The green curry was wonderful. The spice factor was just enough to make my nose run but cool enough to enjoy :-). The service was just as wonderful as the meal. Our waitress was quick and attentive. We will be coming back!!!
(5)Erika F.
Went here for lunch. Great service & excellent meal (had the Kra Pow and it came with a small salad and spring roll). Great value. Will definitely come back.
(5)Jennifer T.
Use to be good. Management has changed. Not going back!! Food use to be so fresh...now old and dry
(1)Kathy D.
I'll keep this short. The food, atmosphere of the restaurant, and our waiter were all great. However, I want to note an experience that was extremely off-putting and left a bad taste in my mouth. As I walked up to the restaurant, there was a man sitting on the bench outside that blatantly and repeatedly looked me up and down and made noises at me with a grimace on his face like I was a piece of meat. I came to find that he was an employee of the restaurant. The area is swimming with Thai food, so there's no need for me to come back here and risk being subjected to that experience again. Buh-bye.

Excellent new addition to Fairfax! My wife and I happened to notice this new restaurant while running some standard errands one day in the Greenbriar shopping center. We had tabbed it as a place to try one day, and we finally got around to it this week. To begin, the beach themed decor is awesome! Being a beach lover, personally, it was a breath of fresh air to see a restaurant (especially a Thai one) put some thought into its decor. The space was open and welcoming, the furniture was new, everything felt clean, and the happy music playing in the background helped make you feel you were on vacation rather than grabbing a bite inbetween errands in a strip mall. A quick glance at the menu shows the beach theme doesn't just end at decor. Unlike many typical Thai restaurants, The Similans have a good amount of unique specialty dishes and you can definitely see its focus on seafood. For our meal, we had a Thai Iced Tea to begin along with an order of Fresh Garden Roll, and then I ordered a Tom Yum Goong and Chicken Kao Pad (their signature fried rice). My wife got an order of Mee Ew off of the "ThaiLicious" section of the menu. The garden rolls were fresh, with a chewy skin and fresh vegetables inside. The soup was tasty (and seemingly tastier the more you eat it), and the fried rice was light and well balanced. My wife's Mee Ew was definitely unique, tasting much like vermicelli noodles in pad see ew sauce. The service was stand out. Everyone who helped us were extremely helpful and always had a smile. They checked on us often, never let our water glasses go empty, and in watching them interact with other tables seems like they genuinely care about establishing a relationship with locals versus just serving them anonymously. Important to note, when we noticed that our Yelp check in came with a 10% discount, they took the discount without issue. And to top it off, at the end of our meal they brought us mango sorbet on the house. Fantastic! All in all, we had a great experience, and we will happily return. They hit the mark in all categories, from food to service to ambiance. Great job, Similans.!

I've been coming to this place for months and if i dont go there, I just buy take out/delivery. Why? Coz food is amazing, staff is nice and price is decent for what you get. Atmosphere is so relaxing and reminds me of the tropics and of the beach. The owners are nice too and are really helpful and accommodating. I loooovee their suki hang talay, pad see ew and ice creams.. they have crispy rolls too that is sweet and crunchy.. you have to try them out..
(5)Carol P.
Can't resist the good taste of the food and the friendly service! Must try the drink called Sweet Aroma for the beginning! That reminds me of what my mom made for me when I was young! Have tried its drunken noodle, pad thai, wang kaew( correct me if I spell it wrong) and green curry. None of them disappoints me ever! If going there for happy hour, the Similans Sampler is a nice combination to go with beer or any other cold drinks. Don't forget the desert. The must-haves are mango sticky rice and the Only (Thai Iced Tea Tiramisu). I like the nice interior design and the friendly staff in the restaurant! They make the food and drink taste more delicious!!!

We went there today based on Yelp reviews. Overall, a very average experience. It's in a strip mall - the decor and ambience was nice, although the music was a tad too loud for my taste. Also, it was contemporary American music as opposed to Thai. The service was courteous and prompt. We are vegetarians and ordered Pad Sea Ew, Pad Cashew and Similans Pad Thai. All of the dishes were very average or below average. Portion size was okay but all of the dishes had hardly any vegetables at all even though we had specifically requested vegetables and tofu. We didn't enjoy the food very much. Interestingly, part way through the dinner they decided to pull the blinds up which made the dining room very bright. We requested that they lower the blinds which they did and then within a couple of minutes someone else came and pulled the blinds back up again. Really?! Not sure why they were so keen on having us look at the view of the parking lot. We won't be going back since there are many other much better options available.
(2)Jackie W.
Convenient, plenty of parking, cute place and great service. We have had several of the pad thai dishes and appetizers. Service is always friendly and prompt, food is always delivered quickly and freshly made. Happy hour specials.
(5)Suze D.
Delicious Thai food. The prices are normal, wait is good, and they deliver! I always get the Pad Se Eww or the Drunken Noodles and it is always consistently good.
(4)Sonja W.
I really enjoy their food. I think their Penang curry and Pad Pik King are better than other area Thai restaurants. Went there for lunch today and discovered they serve a small salad and a spring roll with the entree at lunch. That was a nice touch. My only slight complaint is food coming out at different times. That didn't happen today but has in the past. It's a cute restaurant with a beachy/island theme. I think they should rename the restaurant. My friend who I lunched with had walked by many times but never tried it. It's just not an inviting name. Maybe Island Thai with a palm tee or something might draw folks in more. They also have daily drink specials.
(4)Britt D.
Ate here a few months ago because I really wanted to try a new place. I placed the order to go and it was quite expensive. When i brought it home and started unpacking, it reminded me more of a filipino style or something else. It wasnt authentic thai and I was disappointed. The spring rolls were good. The fried rice was lacking and the Phad thai wasnt exciting either. I wont be going back, but at least I tried it.
(3)Raiza B.
I love their beef ka prow and minced chicken. Great local thai food with fast service! Definitely a good spot to go for casual dinner or/ and lunch!
(5)Dave G.
The food here is VERY tasteful. The Tom Yum Goong is not 100% traditional, but their spin on it is very very good. A little lacking in the shrimp, I think I had two shrimp, certainly no more than three. Their menu is ok, plenty of traditional Thai style dishes and apps to choose from, but some of the more glaring ones are missing: crying tiger, tom yum varieties (only goong is listed, no talay, no gai). Prices are kind of steep. $25 for a duck dish? Even Bangkok 54 doesn't charge that much. No lunch specials, which is surprising bc every Thai place in the NoVa area does this. I would say food quality and taste are prob 4/5. Service is probably 5/5 Menu options 3/5 Menu pricing 1/5 I'll prob go back at some point, just to try out a few other items on the menu, but there's no way I would frequent this place, given that there are closer Thai places to my work, that are just as good taste wise, and easier on the wallet.
(2)Sally T.
Tried here for the first time. Service was average. The waiter, Gun, seems like he didn't want to be working there on a Sunday evening...and he spoke informally to all customers.. oh well...First, Thai tea was a little too sweet, didn't taste authentic. The Pad Thai was decent in taste, lacked veggies and egg, nothing comparable to other awesome pad thai I had. The drunken noodle was better than average, not too salty or oily. We also tried fried i tim for dessert. It was interesting and unique. Although it would've been better if they had coconut ice cream instead of vanilla. I would come back to try other desserts :).
(4)Elise F.
I really enjoyed two of their curries: panang and green. We also ordered drunken noodles and pad Thai and both were good. I had never had drunken noodles before and I would definitely order it again. The pad Thai was a different color than I am accustomed to but it tasted like a typical one. Staff was welcoming. Next time I'll ask for more rice to soak up the curries, yum!
(4)Eric L.
We finally found an amazing Thai place in the Fairfax area. It only took like 4 tries. The pra ra curry was awesome! The peanut sauce absolutely made the dish and pulled everything together quite well. The pad thai was also awesome! It was so savory and had a perfect amount of spiciness (we requested it). Overall a great meal and we will definitely be back to try more!
(5)Wen L.
i"m a regular here at The Similans Thai Eatery. The food is always fresh, delicious and the restaurant is very clean! The interior decor has a beach theme, which is very relaxing and welcoming. So far, I have not find an single dish here that I didn't like! If you're in the area, I highly recommend this place!
(5)Rich M.
Awesome little place! The food is good, the atmosphere is bright, the staff is friendly and the service is good. Best of all for a small restaurant they have a nice beer selection. It's a great addition to our neighborhood.
(5)Daniel L.
Pretty good Thai food in Fairfax at a reasonable price. Had a pad thai and drunken noodles, and both were well executed. It was well seasoned and the beef was really good. Will definitely check it out again when I'm craving some Thai food.

My mom and I visited The Similans for the first time a few weeks ago. We walked in for lunch and had a wonderful experience. The food was great and the server was very helpful. Today, we decided to order delivery for dinner. I ordered Kanom Jeeb, Similans Yum Talay, and Extreme Drunken for the two of us. The woman on the phone corrected my pronunciation on the Yum Talay, and repeated the entire order back to me with all three items. When the food arrived, the bag looked small, so I asked the delivery man (who was very sweet) if there were three items in there. He told me that yes, there were. I signed the check and brought in the food. Once we opened it up, we found that they had left off the Yum Talay. I checked the receipt and found that it had not been rung up. I called the woman back to ask her to send it, and she said she asked if I only wanted two items, and that I said yes, which was completely untrue. She spent the majority of the call arguing with me about what I had asked for and kept telling me that we only wanted the two items. When I finally got her to place the order for the Yum Talay, I asked that she not charge us for delivery since we already paid it. She finally agreed, and told me that the total would be $9 and some change. She told me it would be twenty minutes and I said that I understood it would take time to cook, but please try to rush the order since we were sitting here waiting to eat with half our food. We hung up and she called back two minutes later to say that the price was actually $10 something - fine, we just wanted the food. The same delivery man showed up about 15 minutes later with the Yum Talay. Once we got it inside and opened it, we found that the mussels were completely undercooked (cold and slimy) as were the shrimp and the scallops. I appreciate them trying to rush the order, but not at the risk of food safety. The woman who answers the phone needs some serious customer service training. I work in a restaurant, and I completely understand that mistakes happen. What I don't understand, however, is the fact that I had to argue with her to get her to send me the missing item and that she was angry I called and that she gave no apology whatsoever. Bottom line - I would definitely recommend eating in, but do not bother with delivery.
(2)Belinda S.
Best thai food around. The food was so fresh and tasty. Loved the small atmosphere and got to talk to the owner.
(5)Aly P.
Decided to check the place out with family friends by doing a to go order. I love panang curry so we ordered two of those, pad Thai and pad cashew. The panang was delicious! It needed some more sauce and to be a bigger portion size though. Overall I was pleased and will return!
(4)Jena P.
The hubby and I spotted this new Thai place in the Greenbriar shopping center and decided to pop in for a quick bite. We were pleasantly surprised at the level of service and food quality in this hidden gem. I had shrimp pad thai and we shared chicken satay. I could give or take the satay, but the pad thai was super yummy. After we were done eating, the owner chatted us up a bit and seemed genuinely appreciative of our business. He said he loves the beach, hence the shiny beach theme in the restaurant. I can't wait to go back and try the drunken noodles!
(4)Craig L.
One good dish, one dish that made my girlfriend horribly sick and possibly the worst service I've had in a restaurant in a decade. I walked in to get some takeout. I was not greeted when I walked in. After a minute of the wait staff wandering around nearby I moved farther into the restaurant and picked up one of the takeout menus from by the door. I thumbed through it, standing there. Still nothing. I walked over to the bar and hovered nearby. Wait staff is slowly wandering around me. I made eye contact with a few to no avail. A woman who had been sitting at the bar was given her takeout order and she left. The server immediately turned and walked away. So I sat at the bar. After maybe three minutes, I was finally approached and asked if I wanted anything. I placed my order and got a beer to drink while I waited. I'd barely gotten through a third of what was, admittedly, a perfectly fine beer, when a large paper bag was placed next to me on the bar.....without a check. I finished my beer, then spent the next few minutes trying to waive down a server so I could PAY FOR MY TAKE OUT ORDER. Got home, ate my Pad See Yew. My girlfriend ate her Drunken Noodles. I was fine. I enjoyed my dish. She was sick for 4 days. Bad service and food poisoning. What more could anyone ask?
(2)Memeow R.
I have been here a few times because I live in the neighborhood right by the shopping center. They are always nice when we come here. I have only done takeout since I do live so close. The pad Thai is a good portion but not An spice or real flavor like real Thai should have. The shrimp on a stick appetizer is interesting but a little expensive because you only get four. The restaurant is pleasant and has a welcoming interior. We will be back because the food is pretty good and it's so close.
(3)Madison C.
Took my friend, a former New Yorker who now lives in the DC area, to Similans Thai for lunch today. She ordered the Red Curry w chicken and enjoyed the Red Curry very much. *lip smacking*yummy* She gave her seal of approval and shall return.
(4)Gene I.
Decent place. Food is good. Service is better. Don't mind eating here if I'm in the area again. MY RATING: CAN TRY
(3)Alex C.
A+ for atmosphere A+ for friendly service A+ for visual appeal of the food B for price of food A for food quality B to A for food taste. Who is back in the kitchen matters and makes a difference. I have fried rice three times, the first time it was "perfect" and the other two times ...not so much... Same with one of the noodle entrées'... twice outstanding, the other two times ...not quite as good. I am being a little critical ... this is a big step up from Fortune Palace and a quantum leap from Far East Kitchen. I hope they "make it" They make an excellent addition to the now stellar restaurant offerings at Greenbriar Town Center.
(4)Robert J.
My wife grew up in Thailand and Laos and loves to cook SE Asian meals. We have tried many Thai restaurants in the area and had landed on a favorite several years ago that we go to every other week. Similans is our new favorite! The food was VERY flavorful, yet light. We like it hot and these were seasoned perfectly on the hot end of their scale. Can't wait to make repeat visits to try their extensive and diverse menu. We met one of the owning couples who are very knowledgeable about their dishes and very personable. We also loved the ambiance of The Similans, including how they used a beach theme to represent the island. Oh yeah... and the beer was very cold! Telling all of our friends!
(5)David H.
This is a nice place to eat! The staff is very friendly and helpful, the food is tasty. I will return again I'm sure! I have been back to this restaurant even before completing this review. It's a nice little place to hang out and get some good food to eat.
(4)Jill C.
Delicious food, great atmosphere (relaxed beachy feel, reminds me of a SE Asian resort), super friendly service and reasonable prices. There's even art to buy and great music to listen to. Highly recommend a meal or two or three.
(5)Karen C.
I have tried Similans on several occasions and have been happily satisfied every time. We ordered dinner for my mom's b-day as a takeout order because she was not feeling well. All the entrees were impeccably packaged particularly the Similans Flounder. They even added a couple extra desserts since our order was pretty large. It is in a great location, easy to get to and I go there for lunch or dinner. I am always pleased with the quality of the food, the staff is always professional and friendly and the setting is light and enjoyable. I enjoyed (different times) the Hot Pot Mussels, Larb Gai, Mad Duck and Mango with Sticky Rice to name my favorites. It is worth a try!
(4)Justin M.
This rating is not only on their food (excellent), but mainly on my first/only delivery service (poor). Delivery: Placed an order for Pad Thai and the Extreme Drunken and was told 30-35 minutes. One hour later, no one in sight. I called them back and the lady who took my order seemed to have forgotten my order, meaning they never placed it! People make mistakes from time to time, so I will give them another chance (mainly becuase their food is amazing). Food: Excellent! One of the best Drunken Noodles I've ever had. Spicy yet extremely flavorful! The Pad Thai was really good too, tons of flavor. If you haven't tried their food, I highly recommend it.
(3)Idris U.
Love the ambiance and the food! Tried 3 dishes so far and they were all great! My favorites are green curry and drunken noodles. I also tried one of traditional Thai drinks they make and it was quite nice.
(5)Dan P.
Awesome drunken noodles and amazing crispy rolls. They give you so much food and the service is outstanding! My new Thai place! Oh yea, and now they deliver. So much win.
(5)Marco S.
Another amazing visit. I had the Ban-Ban spicy hot. Also tried the Pad Thai. Booth very, very good.
(5)Paula B.
I have been here at least 3 times, and I have to say, the food here is pretty good! The ka pow i some of the best I have had, the drunken noodles are great, and the curry puffs ( which aren't usually on the paper menu, they are on special) were quite, quite good. The only reason I gave this place 3 stars instead of 4 was the gai grob. Gai grob is a dish of thinly sliced chicken, fried crisp, and coated with a very sweet sauce. The sauce and the frying, was very good...but the chicken was soooo chewy. They also prepared the cashew chicken dish by thinly slicing the chicken, and deep frying it, in a similar style to the gai grob. My friends, this was fried to the the texture of old shoe leather. I ordered it once for take out, and had to throw out the whole dish. Everything else on the menu is great, though.
(3)R N.
I was pretty excited to find a Thai place so close to our house and even more excited to learn that the food was really tasty. So far I've tried to drunken noodles, pad see ew and this beef dish that comes on a sizzling platter, and all of them have been good. Can't wait to make this a regular spot!
(5)Noel R.
We were ripped off!!! We ordered take out which which cost over $60. The mad chicken was so small that it was the size of an appetizer but it cost $20??? The beef mee ew was the same $10 for a small size.. The appetizer isn't even worth mentioning because it was so small it looked like an after thought. Well at least we learned out lesson. Please by all means order here if you want to spend more money than the food you're getting. I'm just very upset because of the money that we shelled out for the meager meal.
(1)Harrison O.
Stopped by for lunch after picking up the kids from camp. We ordered Hawaiian Fried Rice, Pad Thai and Bang Bang which is minced chicken with Kaprow sauce and a side of fried egg. We also ordered a Thai Iced tea and Thai Iced coffee. The server made 2 Thai Iced teas by mistake and decided to give us both of them which was awesome. All our entrees came with salad and crispy roll. The food came out promptly and they were delicious. I really enjoyed eating the Bang Bang. The service was very friendly and overall we had a good experience. We will visit again.
(4)Catherine G.
This place is nice when you walk in. Granted, it throws you at first because of the beach decor which is very far and apart from other Thai restaurants that you go to. Being new, it was clean and very nicely sparse with dust collecting items. The food was ok. My husband enjoyed the drunken noodle dish but then named off two other locations that were better in his opinion. As I'm not the biggest fan of Thai food I defer to him on that. While I liked my food, I was surprised by how gooey the sauces were. My spring rolls were great. They were thin and crispy and tasty. But the sauce that came with had a honey like consistency that wasn't pleasant for dipping. Had it been a little looser, it would have been a nice accompaniment to the spring rolls. When I got my soft shell crab entree, it came out with a sauce that again, had a gooey like consistency. And though I thought the taste was ok, it wasn't delicious enough to get me over the gooeyness happening on the crab. I tried to scrap some of it off, but it wasn't really working. Service was good, though the poor guy was the only server there. And although there were only 4 tables at the time we walked in, by the time we were leaving, he probably had double the tables. So you're probably wondering why this place only garnered 3 stars. Honestly, it could have been higher if I had not witnessed a couple of things. There was a gentleman sitting at the bar whom we believe to be either an owner or manager of the establishment. He obviously had a cold. You could hear him sniffling and sneezing while he was sitting there. We were sitting far away from him, so not a big deal. Unfortunately for him however, I was sitting at an angle where I could see that he was sitting directly in front of the pitchers of water. I didn't notice this first, until I heard him sneeze pretty loud. At that moment, two things happened. Two ladies came to the door and waited to be seated. Since the server was in the back, guy noticed them and took them to be seated. He got them sat, and then proceeded to remove the two extra silverware settings back to where the others were in trays. Now, if you notice, I told you I only noticed this whole thing because he had just sneezed so loud. No where in between the time that he touched the silverware and put them back in the tray to be reused did he ever wash his hands. In his favor however, right AFTER he did that, he did wash his hands. (It might also be because I was staring at him too.) So he washes his hands and hands them two menus. Good for him, but after he sat down, he again sneezed over the pitchers of water so I told hubby to stop drinking the water. We might give this place another chance. I just hope the manager isn't sick or at least keeps himself at home if he is!

I ordered some take-outs from this place. The waiter was very friendly and helped me pick out the dishes since it was my first time here. Loved the interior of this restaurant too! One of my favorite restaurants in the area! :)

The decor here is so odd to me. I know Thailand is on the coast, but it strikes me as more of a Carribean place than Thai. Aside from that, had a great dinner. Edamame and Crunch candy for appetizers (yum), and tasty noodle dishes for entrees (sorry, I forget which ones we got). The drinks we had were tasty although I'm pretty sure there was almost no alcohol in them. Also, extremely attentive service. Would go back.

Let me start - I've never had Thai food. I know - I'm crazy. I love food and especially spicy food and I've always been told to try it but never had. I ordered the beef Kra-Pow. Two chilies - notorious Thai chilies are going to burn your mouth - so I stuck with the two chilies. Yeah this was like eating plain rice in the spice factor. I don't know what it is - me or the places I try. I cannot for the life of me find a spicy Asian dish. It had a good inch of oil in the container - no idea if that's normal but I didn't like it. The ingredients seemed fresh and delivery was reasonable for route 50 lunch time traffic - from ordering to receiving it was like 30 minutes.

This place is relatively new, and we stumbled across it while in Greenbriar last month. Got takeout, and we were very impressed. The place is cute, the staff was polite, and our food was ready fast. It was all excellent. My boyfriend is very picky about takeout and he ate his entire meal - usually he puts half in the fridge and it winds up in the trash. So take that as a high compliment! Their site's down right now, so I can't grab the dish titles, but I had cashew chicken that was ACTUALLY spicy, thank goodness. High quality chicken. Great veggie selection. Finally, a truly good thai place near home. They just started delivering this week, according to their Facebook page. We'll definitely be calling!

Excellent food, lovely environment!! We had massagan curry beef, red curry, soft shell crab, and pad won sen. Fresh spices and herbs, very flavorful and just the right amount of spicy. Yuuummmyyy! There was a large group there that slowed things down a bit, but the food was still amazing. Great place for a fathers day meal and Thai food lovers.

I love Thai food! And to come here, the food satisfied my taste buds. The best Thai restaurant that I've been to in this area. And I love the beach theme. It's very relaxing and peaceful. It's different from most of the restaurants around.

Always wanted to try here, and I finally did... Of course, one must try the traditional dish...Pad Thai, definitely a plus! In additional, the dessert, green tea, would've been great only if it didn't melt so fast (no hard feelings)...overall, I was quite satisfy with the food and service...and i will definitely come back again and will try your happy hour (when i get a chance to) :)

Ban ban was delicious. Egg on top makes everything better! Friendly service. Good portions. Not drenched in sauce. Very flavorful. YUM.

Outstanding drinks, appetizers, entries and dessert. Excellent service. Couldn't ask for more.

Noticed the signs and ads for The Similans in Greenbriar Shopping Center and decided we had to give this new establishment a try. New to Fairfax County- we are not new to Thai food. From the days of Duangrats, Rabieng and their 3rd place which shut down after a year or so...to Tara Thai and THAI Shirlington...we've tried them all. Ultimately we got spoiled being a mile away from Thai Square in Arlington, so we approached the new place with the bar already set high. The Similans has a great beach motif/design going on...only right for one of the best places to dive in the world....Wait staff very friendly, not over the top, very personable, helpful and spot on with recommendations. Like any new restaurant, The Similans will work our the kinks of running a restaurant. The food is great- we've been a handful of times and the for me the first three times- I ordered the basics- Pad Thai, Panang Curry and Drunken noodles. If you can't do those well, since that is what most people stick to (The tried and true basics for the hesitant...)then there is no sense coming back. The Similans passed those test with flying colors. Great presentation, very fresh vegetables, smooth sauces- and the always welcomed crispy thai basil leaves. Portions are very good- not too much but you won't leave hungry either. The spice is there if you like it- just ask for Thai spicy or chose anything with 2 peppers. If you like moderate, or need the kitchen to throttle it back- ask. We've found the owners and staff very accommodating. The Kra Pow sauce in the BanBan dish was awesome. If you are looking for "gourmet" Thai, there may be other places. If you are looking for knock off "pretty" Thai places- you can get those around here as well. The Similans is a great place, local joint in our backyard that serves honest good food and does it well. The drinks (beer/wine) selection is good- to include a nice selection of microbrews- that pair nicely. We've had the pleasure to chat with the owners, and if you ever wonder what a home cooked meal in Thailand may be like...look no further since "Mom" is in the kitchen adding her very own touches to the dishes. And do try to save room after the meal at least once to try the Coco Islands dessert. Coconut icecream (specialty made...) sticky rice and cream sauce...the wife can't put the spoon down (and she hates ice cream). Mango Sticky Rice is very good as well- Welcome to Greenbriar Similans- and we'll be back soon

My husband and I ordered cellophane noodle dishes, to include Pad Thai. My husband is not a huge fan of Thai food, but he loved both dishes. I ordered the Fried Rice kids meal for my boys (3 and 6 years-old). Both enjoyed those meals as well. I wish the prices were a few dollars cheaper, but we absolutely loved the meals! We will definitely go back!

New Thai restaurant that took over for the Fortune Palace that had been serving Chinese food for 25 years. Great food. Ask for the manager, Ken. The seafood paradise was outstanding and much more jumbo shrimp, scallops, and squid (think calamari) than expected for the price. Clean, fresh, and inviting.

A cut above the other Thai places. All your favorites plus thai coastal options, specials, and a festive atmosphere.

Drunken noodles and pad Thai very good. Aroma drink very good. Mango coconut rice desert a must.

This is without a doubt some of the best authentic Thai food in Fairfax. Good beer selection too. Clean restaurant and very modern feel. Staff is also very friendly.

i think the dishes were over priced, and sizzling beef came out cold and chewy, flounder supposed to be the must order dish from their menu, at the market price of $38, it was above average at the best. and another sampler we ordered was just okay, nothing special to remember, It was weekend lunch time, and we were the only table there the whole time, i think something must went wrong with the kitchen that day, as i do hear good reviews of this place that's why i grabbed my friends to go try this place, but it was a disppointment that day.

Had dinner with my wife there tuesday while the kids were at CCD. Nicely decorated place with a beach theme. The staff was very friendly and helpful in explaining what the dishes were. The food was great, the portions plentiful, and the service was fast. While I've had some really good Thai food in the past it's not usually my first choice. That could easily change now that Similans is open and nearby. The only thing missing was a cold Singha or Chang beer. They don't have their liquor license yet but was told it's coming. Well worth going back.

After hearing from friends about this place, my daughter and I tried it for lunch today. We ordered chicken pad thai, drunken beef noodles and coco island for desert. It was incredible. Being not much a fan of thai food I was pleasantly surprised. The decor of the restaurant is very appealing and the friendliness of the staff left nothing to be desired. The entire atmosphere is modern and welcoming. The portions were generous and I can't wait to heat up leftovers for dinner. I will take my entire family back there soon and will recommend this place to friends and family.

I saw this new Thai restaurant pop up in the Greenbriar Shopping Center recently and gave it a try for lunch today. It is located on the same side of the Center as the Five Below and nail salon. It was empty but I think that's because it's pretty brand new . The waitstaff was nice and friendly. The decor was beach themed. It kinda reminded me of Tara Thai. Their menu has the basics, lunch prices are cheaper than dinner. I got the Kra Pow with chicken and the Extreme Drunken noodles with pork. Both were pretty tasty. The meat was not as tender as it should've been but better than average, and definitely better than some of the other thai restaurants I've tried in the immediate area. Be careful if you go for lunch that you are charged the lunch prices. They charged me the dinner pricies but when I pointed that out, they fixed it and were extremely apologetic. They gave me a 15% off coupon for my next visit. I will definitely go back. Great new addition to the area and the Greenbriar Shopping Center.

My husband and I tried this place for lunch the other day. We ordered our usual Shrimp Pad Thai and Beef Pad See Ew (the two dishes we always try first when going to a new Thai restaurant). I was really surprised how much they actually give you for the Pad Thai. We had some leftovers and that even tasted good (just need to pan fry it at home) - and that's not usual. I find a lot of Thai restaurants' food to be a bit too sweet. This place somehow has the right ingredients/portions. The Pad See Ew was delicious - was a bit disappointed about this dish's portion size, but maybe it's because it was lunch. I usually can't finish my meal, but this time I was able to finish every bite. Not a huge deal - but just something I noticed. The Thai Iced Tea was good as well. The service was good - friendly staff. Environment was great - they had a different theme (Beach!) than the typical Thai restaurant - TVs at the bar - and overall the place is clean and remodeled/designed well. We'll definitely be eating here again - and will be recommending this place to my friends who work right down the street since it's walkable for them.

This place is a nice treat for the area. Very nice staff and nice sized portions. Seafood Pad Sea Ew was great and Beef Massaman curry was nice and tender. New local Thai spot..

Great new Thai restaurant. Very authentic Thai restaurant that caters to both "americanized" Thai food fans as well those who know what real Thai food is supposed to taste like. Nice selection of great appetizers

I went to the Similans for lunch with a group of coworkers and had a fantastic time! The food was delicious! Mmmm... the creamy goodness of Thai iced tea, the spicy comfort-food taste of the Tom Yum soup with shrimp and the sweet and savory combination of Pad "Sea" Ew (wide rice noodles in a sweet soy sauce) with beef and Chinese broccoli - beyond delicious! I cannot wait to come back again for the appetizer sampler and the Pad Thai with shrimp. I also really liked the atmosphere - the wait staff was friendly, the owners very nice and the decor super-cute! Finally, I have to mention the bathrooms (yes, I am one of those people that judges restaurants not just on food but on bathroom cleanliness). Adorable decor, again (beach-themed), plenty of hooks for your jacket/purse, etc., clean and well-stocked. I'll be a repeat customer! :)

Very nice restaurant. Some of their dishes have interesting names like Puff dad, whale app, bikini shrimp etc. Our sever was nice and can speak fluent English. I am glad that they have kids menu. My toddler loved his bikini shrimp meal. My older one ordered the kid's fried rice, which is a little greasy but still tasted good. My husband order the duck dish which I found it is better than Thai Luang in Herndon. Definitely will go there again.

My husband and I enjoyed a dinner together here Saturday night. The makeover from the previous restaurant was amazing. We both loved the appetizer and both entrees...nothing left to take home! The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. They obviously enjoy their family restaurant. We can't wait to go back.
