My boyfriend and I were hungry after attending the Paint Nite at the restaurant and decided to eat dinner here. I ordered the blackened tilapia and it came with picco de gallo. Something in the picco de gallo was really salty, so I wasn't a fan of that portion of the plate. We also ordered sweet potato fries and those were good! The quantity wasn't a lot though, which was disappointing. Service was okay. It was slow since it was around 9pm, however I felt like service should have been better especially since there were only a few patrons in the restaurant. I called out to a server 3 times for the tab but she still didn't hear me so my boyfriend had to get up and ask her. Overall, I thought service should have been more attentive considering how few patrons were in the restaurant. I did like the fact that a manager came and checked on us during our meal. Overall, okay food, okay service.

I went there for their happy hour on Thursday 9/9/15 with a couple of friends to watch the football game. Ordered 2 ciders with fries and a chicken quesadilla from the happy hour menu. At the end of the night a woman with long blonde hair and bad teeth who was working the tables near the bar told me the receipts got messed up and the waitresses were fighting about it and told me that they were only going to charge me for the two ciders ($5-6). I felt bad and left a tip that would have been appropriate for the amount of the meal was included. A few days later, I look at my bank statements and it said that greene turtle charged me for 25 dollars. I signed for the 2 ciders! I DID NOT SKIP OUT ON MY TAB OR LEAVE THE WAITER A BAD TIP! The biggest mistake I made was not taking the customer copy of the receipt. Fair warning to everyone, always take the receipt and double check everything before you leave. To the waitress and other waiters who were working that night, be a little more courteous next time. If you wanted me to pay for everything, I wouldnt have had a problem telling you every single thing I ate that night. You didnt have to write a fake receipt.

Well I don't know what to say I returned to the green turtle for a appetizer and a drink with my wife.I thought things of changed first of all the music was extremely loud for me blaring from the front of the bar with the trivia game really suggest putting that back at the back of the bar area music was overwhelming.unfortunately once again service was the worst at the bar I don't understand why there are no bartenders and we have to wait for drinks over and over. One of the biggest problems we occurred before is that no bartenders were ever in front of the bar they were either socializing in the back are doing service bar.there were two times when we had to remind them about our drinks one person was getting off the other person was restocking this was at 8 o'clock at night. I just don't get it about this far the most important thing with the bar the size is the always have a bartender there and I think you have a bartender doing service bar at the end of the bar and I have to really look around to get another drink is ridiculous.I do think the food has improved a lot but the service from the barwas the worse than it's ever been.don't give me wrong they were nice when they finally arrive but why does someone have to wait 10 minutes why six or gather at the end of the bar. In my opinion a bartender should be watching the barnot doing their side work or doing service bar another bad experience don't know what to say It's very disappointing to find a bar that is trying so hard and different way but Mrs. so many important things

Pretty fun place to go for drinks. Came the other day for drinks - had a beer and shared the "Hell in a Shell" ..mixed drink for 4 people in a huge turtle shell. Also had a salad with fried shrimps on skewers. Not bad, I liked the Bleu cheese dressing it came with, and it had a generous portion of shrimp It was a Friday night so they had karaoke. Everyone was getting into it so that was fun! Go up there quick when they call your name so they don't skip you! :)

Love the atmosphere, hate the food. My husband and I go here all the time, but only because we like to watch sports and its loud enough to drown out the sounds of our kids if they are with us. However, the food is just not good and that makes me sad because we end up at this restaurant two or three times a month. I really wish I could get a decent meal. If you're going for drinks and to watch sports then it's great, but if you want something good to eat, try somewhere else. Also, it's freezing in there, so bring a sweater.

I was here for a private event. I got the Raspberry Turkey Flatbread. That sh*t was amazing!! I was curious about the raspberry, and of course because I love sweets, this sandwich was delicious! The side of chips were good too. Only reason why I'm giving it an "a-ok" is because it's just 1 thing on their menu. When I get another chance I'll come back and try something else. Definitely a contender.

Same old terrible service. Feels like all the employees are miserable. Must be the management.

I go here to watch UFC. There is no cover. In fact, I was here last Saturday all the way from DC. It's peppered with TVs everywhere and seldom too crowded. So for that purpose - and that purpose alone - it's an excellent destination. Seriously, you can watch on a little screen or a big screen, share a booth with your friends, and have the sound to go with it. Seriously, I'll trek out here for free UFC. You can hang around a table all night, grab a bite, a couple of beers, and enjoy the moment with friends. For anything else, I just don't get the hype. There is absolutely nothing special about the menu and the food isn't very good. I'm not trying to say it's bad, it's just not exciting. I had the MD crab soup and it was overly salty. The fries my friend had were a bit soggy. Someone else got a chicken caesar and it was big, though mostly iceberg lettuce. A friend got the chicken tenders in a basket and he said he really liked them and always gets them. I didn't have any booze but the beer selection seemed standard fare. I think the Turtle needs one good, signature, affordable dish. Otherwise the menu is just too generic and it becomes just another sports bar/grill. Service was sporadic. Our water was *very* nice and got all of the orders down correctly, particularly my friend's complicated beverage order, but there were times when he disappeared. Maybe it's because we were towards the back but a couple of people at our table definitely resorted to craning their neck and wondering aloud when the waiter again. I'd come back for sports. But otherwise I'm not sure it'd be my choice for a dinner destination. (Edited: I wasn't very articulate the first time around. I owe the restaurant and yelpers better.)

Been to Greene Turtle a few times with friends for lunch, dinner, happy hour, or to watch a game playing. Nice staff for the most part, I don't think I've ever had a major problem with any of them in various locations. I did go recently and did not see the waffle burger on the menu. I'm not sure if it was a seasonal thing, but I wish it was still on the menu! It was great! This time I went I got the fried mozzarella and it came out in a half circle shape versus the mozzarella sticks I was thinking of. It was ok. Very crispy, but I prefer the sticks. On this particular night, the ufc fight was on and the waiter we had we could tell was very busy, but he was not very good at his job. We were in a party of 6 and two of my friends left early after they ate and he didn't even clean up the table and take the plates away. Throughout the night he also never took away the empty cups so it looked like we were just collecting them. He brought out our drinks in different cups as well and jokingly my friend said, "aw, how come mine isn't in a pretty cup" and the waiter said that they were running out of cups. With that said, when you see empty ones on the table, wouldn't you want to quickly pick them up and clean them to have more to use? He didn't check back as often either and at one point brought out water in to go plastic cups. Not a big deal, but he probably needs a little more training. Otherwise, food and drinks were fine and we enjoyed watching the fight there!

I was there with a rather large party on a Monday. Service was okay but a bit slow to refill etc but nothing to really complain about. Food was acceptable, after all we are in a chain restaurant here. Here is where my REAL complaint comes in. When we got there there was a man sitting out in the outdoor seating/smoking area who was nodding off to sleep rather violently. I am not sure how this man was actually able to stay in his chair. I am not sure how and when he got there or if he was drunk, on drugs or just sick. The man appeared homeless, but hard to really tell. I stepped inside and alerted a server that there was a man sitting out there that looked like he needed help. Her answer was a cheerful "we know". I could tell they knew since it was apparent that they had sit a cup of water in front of him. About 45 minutes later I stepped out there to use the phone and he was still there. I said a couple of times, "Sir is there someone I can call to help you?" He was unresponsive and continued to repeatedly fall over again and again in his chair. As I walked back in I saw someone that looked to be a manager and said "There is a man outside that looks like he needs help." I got another "We know" answer. And hour later as I was leaving this man was still there. At no point did I see ANYONE from the establishment do anything. No police called, nothing. Just allow this man to sit outside and potentially hurt himself, or leave and be a danger to himself and possibly someone else. And the staff's nonchalant attitude about it was gross. I was not sure what I could do to help.

Great service. Very attentive. Must try the cheese crab dip with pretzels for an appetizer. Shrimp tacos were wonderful. Great atmosphere

Considering how much I liked the Greene Turtle in DC several years ago, I was surprised with how lack luster I found this visit. Our server (once we got one) was nice. We were there for a pre-season game Sat night and she seemed pretty swamped even though it wasn't that busy. I feel like she took good care of us though; so when she said she was getting off for the evening we closed out with her. She assured us that our next server would be right over, but no one else ever showed up. I ordered drinks from the bar for us for the remainder of the game and a little after. The restaurant side looked very busy, I noticed a few large groups of kids (little league teams maybe?) and I found it amusing that it was pretty loud compared to the bar area (isn't that backwards?). Their food is edible. I got the buffalo chicken sandwich and it was pretty middle of the road as far as bar food goes. Overall, I guess it's not a bad place, but I'm not clamoring to go back.. so.. meh. Update: the restaurant side is pretty much exactly the same. Hit or miss service. There seems to be some overall confusion among the staff as to who does what. If you don't have high expectations it's an OK place to catch a game. It's not cheap though. So visit #2 will probably be my last.

I can't tell you how excited I was when I learned The Greene Turtle was coming to Fairfax City! Having been to many other Greene Turtle locations, including the ones in Owings Mills, Fells Point and Ocean City, I was happy to see a quality restaurant/sports bar coming to a location five minutes from my home. Unfortunately that's where the good went downhill. On my first visit, I got almost everything crab, hey, I'm from Maryland originally, so its in my blood! First thing out was the Maryland crab soup. Now, I've had the Maryland crab soup in the other locations and it was wonderful. How could Greene Turtle screw this up being so close to Maryland, unfortunately they did, it was bland, watery, tasted nothing like the Maryland crab soup at other Greene Turtle locations. Don't know. Have since tried it and it was the same way. Next was the Crab dip, which we shared at our table. It was good, nothing to write home about, better in other Greene Turtle location, but not the worst crab dip I've ever had. Then our entrees arrived, and sticking with the crab theme, I ordered the Chicken Chesapeake. This was really good, tasty, a great combination, a little messy, but who cares as it was a great sandwich and I knew I would order it many times in the future. Finished off the meal with a brownie sundae that was very good. I'm a sucker for desserts anyway! Meal was good, service was horrible. It was crowded, but even for a crowded restaurant it shouldn't take 2.5 hours to eat and be out. Unfortunately the service is never very good, even on nights when it is relatively uncrowded or late at night when its primarily bar service and bar tables, service is still horrible. Lately, its been carryout from Greene Turtle, which is just fine. The only night I can remember really great service was a night I didn't care how long I was there. I went to watch an Orioles game and they had me ready to leave in 30 minutes. Oddly, I stayed a while and took up a table, though no one really cared, as there was only one other customer that evening. All in all, there are some good dishes that I've had -- try the French Onion soup and the Maryland Style wings and the Eastern Shore Mac and Cheese, as well as the Chicken Chesapeake sandwich already mentioned. Service is generally horrible. Takes forever. Weekend nights are the worst. Sunday's during football season surprisingly aren't bad, though no one is really in a rush as they are there to watch football, eat, drink and be merry and not in a rush for time at all.

Best place in Fairfax to watch sports. TVs on every wall and at your booth (dinning area). Different events/activities every night. Small bar area and can get crowded fast during a big game night

2.5-3 Average sports bar. Service is always good.. definately a "Bro" type hang out. People hang out here, stay out late, watch sports, and faternities try to earn money by handing out flyers outside every once in awhile. Drinks are fine and there are TV's everywhere. Not my scene, but I can see how others may enjoy it.

Ordered a meal for pick up around 10:40pm. Our order: 12 wings and 6 wings, an entree portion of Mac and Cheese, two kid's grilled cheese, and a side of fries. Our order came out to $55, which despite how much I do the math doesn't add up unless our side of fries were over $5-- and considering we got about 15 fries, I hope that isn't the case. When we got our food, the kids meals were only sandwiches and were missing the advertised fries and apple slices. The side of fries looked like they had been eaten by somebody. The ENTREE PORTION of Mac and cheese, which was $11, looked like maybe 8 ounces with nothing on the side. Would have shown how shallow the cup was but they didn't provide any plastic ware. We called and drove back out, they didn't replace the apple slices. If they weren't prepared to take an order, they should have said so. Extremely disappointed with the quality and quantity of food for the cost. Ugh. Avoid.

Went there for the first time, only had appetizers, did not order dinner. Ahi Tuna appetizer is very good. Crab cake appetizer was average. The crab part is ok (not a lot of it though!), but the roll it's on is dry and had no taste. Server was extremely friendly. Probably will go back any some point to try again.

Currently at the Green Turtle and about to leave just like the others due to the extremely long wait with NUMEROUS open tables. Apparently having extra staff on Saint Patrick's Day didn't occur to management. Because paying servers 4.25 an hour or whatever is a HUGE cost? Idiot management. They won't seat people and are turning away money because "they don't want to over burden their servers". I've seen many other restaurants do just fine WITH better service an just as many if not more guests. Won't be returning.

Went in on a Monday night and the place was pretty empty, although there were some patrons watching MNF. Nonetheless we had to seat ourselves and it took a few minutes to spot a staff member and have one assist us. Had the Sliders & Straws & the loaded fries. Both were average. Definitely wouldn't come back here for the food.

So this is just your average green turtle, but in a college town. Don't come here and expect the food to be good, it won't be. It's definitely frozen. The manager here is a pretty nasty lady you can tell she definitely doesn't like her job. The service is inconsistent. On a busy night no one will ask you if you want anything, but sometimes during the day you can get good service. No good specials at the bar you're going to pay full price for everything which is not the norm for Fairfax va.

I was there tonight for karaoke and the young leadership was terrible. I will never go again and as a hotel manager I will never recommend this bar to my guests due to the staff. I love Vee. She is the best and was very friendly but sadly I will make sure that no one I know ever goes to this location due to the male bar staff you have and their childish egos. I hope you can train you staff to better accommodate a business casual crowd. Until then, this bar will be the bottom of the barrel in my eyes. Vee if you want a hotel job that starts at $17 an hour please respond here!!! I'll hire you!!

The Greene Turtle's advertisement of Burger Night on Mondays was what attracted us here. All burgers are $6.99 on Mondays. This is definitely a sports bar! There are large TV screens everywhere and even a TV screen at each booth! (So theoretically one could watch any program at a booth while everyone else is watching a game or sports show!) I ordered a Bacon Cheeseburger with Pepper Jack cheese and also a side salad for an additional $2.99. The burger was very good! The bacon was nice and crisp. The Greene Turtle was busy on a Monday evening with hockey games on the screens, but not overly crowded. Service was prompt.

This restaurant advertises delivery service but it actually uses the service "Mr. Delivery." With the 'processing fee', 'delivery fee' and the 'gratuity' Mr. Delivery so thoughtfully added on, the bill came out to be very expensive. We had delivery because of our long drive and it was storming like crazy. My husband ordered the Maryland Crab Soup which arrived cold (our hotel room had a microwave, thankfully). The soup was okay but beware, it's very spicy. He also ordered the Southwest Chicken Chopped Salad. The chicken and onion straws arrived on the side. The chicken (what there was of it) was a bit dry and the onion straws soggy. The salad size was small for the price and lean on ingredients. I ordered the Apple Pecan Salad. The chicken also arrived on the side. My thoughts were the same -- the chicken was minuscule, lacking in flavor and dry. The salad itself was small for the $16.00+ price and short on ingredients. ` If have a yen for a salad and it's raining, this is a choice but be prepared to wait over an hour and spend $60+.

This rating only speaks to the "sports" in this sports bar. I came here recently hoping to watch the Browns - Lions preseason game only to discover they don't broadcast football beyond the Redskins and Ravens. A "real" sports bar broadcasts beyond local interest. Yes, there are plenty of TV's, but they only broadcast three or four events on all screens. On a good note, the staff is cordial, and from what I can tell, folks seemed to enjoy their food. Also, the beer list is pretty decent, but the daily specials are not appealing money-wise.

I don't understand why is it super slow! They only got 2 tables! And its taking forever! Everybody working is on their phones! I believed they shouldn't be on their phone while on the clock! I rather go to the one in Dulles than here!

Food is good and servers are good. However, the female bartenders (particularly the ones who work Thursday nights) are consistently rude and never fail to seem miserable all night. Not only did I wait for 30 minutes at the bar to order a drink while all the men around me were having their orders taken, but when I finally got the attention of one of them, she held a finger to me and said "no". As an experiment, I handed my money to a male friend to order for me. When she took his drink order, she specifically asked if the drinks were for me and my girl friends. He said "yes" and she told him never mind. I was absolutely shocked and appalled by this behavior. I had never experienced anything like this before, and from somebody who was about to take my money and expect a tip as well? Reprehensible.

Met some friends at The Greene Turtle, Fairfax a few weeks ago for one of the Caps games. Never been there, but the atmosphere was cool. We sat in the lounge area, about every other table was sat but not crazy or packed. There appeared to be only one server on the floor, taking care of probably 6 high tops. Long story short, the service was absolutely horrible. The server could only handle one table at a time, and when she disappeared in the back in was for like 5-10 minutes at a time. She never ONCE stopped by to check on our drinks and food; we literally had to flag her down every time. Secondly, if one of us ordered she would nod her head and walk away, not asking the rest of the table if they needed another round or anything at all! No eye contact, no smiling, not many words at all. Service was so disappointing I asked for the manager, who happened to be a guy that was standing around not helping any of his staff. When he walked up to our table, his attitude was very dismissive and again, no eye contact, smiling, or much verbiage. I presented the issues and that we had been waiting for our checks for quite some time. When the waitress returned, she gave my group our check but not to the rest of the table, which were all separate and had been requested also. They gave us something of a 10% discount or $10 off, can't remember. I didn't want a discount, I wanted the issues to be addressed and an apology perhaps? The server and manager handled the situation so poorly, I will indefinitely never return to this location; I did catch their names but have chosen not to disclose that. On a side note, have been in the service industry for several years and have the utmost respect for how crazy it can get serving a section by yourself; I make sure to cover the craziness with a smile, communication, and acknowledgment of any issues. I have never given a tip less than 15% until this moment, I left cash on the table and whatever was left was change in her pocket unfortunately. The only reason I give two stars instead of one, is because our food and drinks were excellent! It's a shame the service was so disappointing.

Stopped in for lunch with friends on a Sunday afternoon.. surprisingly very good for a sports bar type place!! Crab dip with soft pretzels was yummy... you know it's probably wicked bad for you but you don't care cause it's delicious. The fish tacos were literally so yummy... 3 of them with a side of greens... the fish was delicious and you got a massive piece on each taco. Definitely recommend for a casual quick bite with friends!

This place is awful! I went there recently with a large group (13) and despite our organizer calling ahead weeks in advance, days in advance AND the morning of, they swore up and down that we didn't need a reservation and it would be fine. When we arrived the one table that would've fit our group was occupied by a family of 5 - meanwhile ALL of the booths surrounding it were empty. We asked about putting a couple other tables together and were told no because of fire code issues. We eventually ended up settling in the bar area at a table for 6 that we just squished around. It was trivia night and we were right next to the speakers which was unreasonably loud. Our waiter was very nice but kind of a mess. He confused our orders A LOT. Forgot to bring things we ordered. He tried, but it seemed like he was the only person in the whole area. After our group ate, NO ONE came to collect the plates for a good 20 minutes. Since it was a small table and a lot of people, I ended up taking 3 loads of plates to the bar to clear some space. When I did, the bartender began to chide me for bringing dirty dishes to the bar - but he stopped himself. I'm glad he did because I would've been happy to share my opinions with him. I've been a bartender and I would NEVER speak to a customer like that. But the main reason that I am writing this review is because I had a drink that was utterly foul. I have had bad drinks before but this was perhaps the worst I've ever had. I ordered the blood orange margarita, as did 2 others at our table. And it tasted like a bucket of sweat!!! I thought maybe it wasn't mixed so I waited a bit and mixed it up and tasted it again. It was HORRIBLE!!! I finally called the waited over and told him that I COULD NOT drink it. He said, "No problem... but I'm gonna have to take it away." ....blink.... why would I want to keep it? He offered to get me another drink so I ordered a regular margarita. 20 minutes later, it still had not come. I waved the waiter down again and said, forget about the replacement drink - I just want my check so I can get out of here. He brought my check and the margarita and said "they just made it so you might as well have it. No charge." Needless to say I didn't drink it. I wasn't trying to get one over on him. I actually had made arrangements to drink that night - a lot! But because their service was so terrible, they didn't get my money or anything else from my party. In retrospect, I think the margarita had tomato juice in it.... Although someone else in my group got a glass of water and said that tasted terrible, too. Needless to say, I won't go there ever again. NEVER EVER!

So I don't give reviews for just ok places, good or bad. This place was great. I don't understand the low ratings (2 1/2 stars) because everything about it was great. They had great service, food was great, and they had sports on. What more could I ask for? I got a flat bread pizza, and they didn't skimp on the toppings. My father in law got a burger and it came out a perfect medium well, as asked. The kids were treated well and their food wasn't just cheap kids food. I hope that everybody goes into this place with an open mind and compare it to the other offerings in Fairfax.

Having gone back several times since originally reviewing Green Turtle, I have to say it's been more of the same but worse. The most recent experience including husband and I sitting at the bar for maybe 20 seconds before the visibly wasted elderly man next to began hitting on me. I guess he had already been cut off by the bartender but was still allowed to stick around at the bar. We got up and moved to some other seats once they became available. The service seems to have gotten worse. If you are sitting in the bar area, it is nearly impossible to get a server's attention. Often they are dealing with the very loud (and very drunk) large college groups. Thursday through Saturday, it's so packed that you are lucky to find a seat at all. If you happen to be there on karaoke night, You likely won't be able to have a normal conversation anywhere in the place including the restaurant area. The food continues to be underwhelming. The Wings at the hottest level are almost inedible and I'm no sucker for heat. I have no suggestions for what is actually good to eat here. Even for a late-night bite, it's just not worth it.

They have a decent selection of craft beers on tap but the food leaves something to be desired. If you like spicy wings, try the "Blazing Hot". OMG, I was crying! Tuesday nights = Trivia! TIP: THEY HAVE ORANGE CRUSH! Not the soda, vodka and FRESH squeezed OJ. It makes a world of difference. Love it!

Good service and good atmosphere. However the Margherita pizza was really bad. It is just a bad idea. It looks like what you would get if you let a little kid loose in the kitchen. My advice: take this off the menu or replace it with a better idea.

In short: Terrible service, pricey for surprisingly small portions, and shitty atmosphere. Far too many TVs. It boggles me that with several empty (yet well-lit) back rooms on a Saturday night they would have folks wait standing up near the deafening bar. Neither my soda or water were refilled for the whole meal, which I would have remedied if the waitress would have come near our table after dropping off the entree. The crab dip was very unimpressive. It comes with six miniature pretzel sticks that clocked in at two bites apiece. I was afraid it would leave some excess dip, but it was just a very small bowl. At the price point and crab dip being mostly filler anyways, it was surprising that they would skimp. My burger was OK. I wasn't aware that fries were an additional fee when I was ordering and at 11$ for a burger that's plain miserly, but keeping so many dozens and dozens of TVs running at all times probably costs a ton. There was a TV at every booth in addition to the near-completely covered walls. My 3$ Caesar salad consisted of iceberg lettuce and some croutons. My friends and I found only two pieces of lettuce to have dressing on them, so I asked for some on the side. I'm unsure if they charged but it would be my assumption. I am not generally upset that much by noise in sports bars but I found it oppressively loud. I have never had a group of people shout so loudly in my direction as when something happened in the basketball game on the TV above my booth. I don't know how everyone got so drunk when the price of beer is that high. To anyone considering opening a sports bar, a small tip - If you use mirrors on your walls, you can nearly halve the number of TVs you need for there to be a basketball game every few feet on the wall. This should loosen up your budget enough to hit your lower priorities, like hiring and training servers so you can use your whole restaurant on a Saturday night and feeding people at a sane price point.

I probably should have read the reviews on YELP before coming to this location... For starters the crab dip was very unimpressive. It comes with six miniature pretzel sticks that clocked in at two bites apiece. I was afraid it would leave some excess dip, but it was just a very small bowl. At the price point and crab dip being mostly filler anyways, it was surprising that they would skimp. Next, my drink contained some sort of crusty white stain that my girlfriend pointed out. With every swirling rotation of my straw the debris was mixing into my drink and we uncomfortably had to ask for a new one. The beer was overpriced at 8 dollars for a 16 ounce Blue Moon. Overall, I am kinda surprised it took me so long to try this place considering the same tiring rotations of frequenting Auld Shebeen, Hard Times, And Prime Time, but my first visit to Green Turtle will most certainly be my last :/

I hate to give such a low rating, but I have yet to enjoy a meal at the Greene Turtle. I have tried several times, hoping that the food improves, but it just continues to disappoint. They do have a nice beer selection and many TVs (one per booth and several in the bar area). It is a great place to grab a beer and watch a game. Want an appetizer? Dinner? That is where your experience will go downhill. Service has always been friendly but even the best server can't make up for sub par food. Hoping that they do a serious revamping of the menu so that I can up my rating. Until then, cheers and go team! :)

Came here on a sunday to watch football with the fellas. I have no idea why people are giving this place crap reviews, I liked it here and would definitely come back! Food is just whatever, but all the other aspects make up for it. Drinks were at a pretty decent price, especially beers. I believe it was about $5 for a cup of coors or blue moon. It was probably $4 because you get to keep the cup after you drink it! After I found that out, I probably drank a good amount for the sole aspects to keep the cups haha. I got a cheeseburger which came out just fine. The service was top notch as well, our waitress frequented our table and asked us if we needed any service probably every 5-10 minutes. The service was so good that it was to a fault, in other words it was actually getting annoying. She was probably new.. As far as the atmosphere goes, there were many football fans here which made the place lively and vibrant. There are plenty of TV's in here as well so catching a game won't be a problem. In conclusion, I had a pretty good time and would definitely come back to watch a game or two!

Food is decent bar food but nothing to write home about. My coworkers and I come here for lunch and are constantly disappointed by the blatant lack of service. Maybe one or two tables, a few servers, but we never see them?

I witnessed the 2012 NFL draft here at the Green Turtle. As previous reviewers stated the restaurant is brand spanking new in the heart of Fairfax. There's plenty of TVs surrounding the Green Turtle. The bartenders were adequately staffed for the prime time event. My Chesapeake burger was delivered in ten minutes. The burger was good but I wouldn't consider it my all-time favorite. They cooked it well and provided plenty of crab, old bay seasoning, and cheese as the main topping. The sweet potato fries rocked. Crispy and sweet! If I had to complain about anything it would primarily involve the lighting. Some areas of the bar will have a blind spot involving a hanging light fixture. I found it somewhat annoying to view a light bulb when looking up to view the TVs. Fortunately I switched to an different spot at the bar. The crowd was mixed with professionals, students, and families. I guess this explained the mediocre response when RG3 was drafted. There were burgendy and gold fans in attendance but I know we can louder next time! Service was good as my refills were meet in satisfactory time. Given my experience, the location, and free garage parking, I believe the Green Turtle will continue to have future success.

Stopped here last night to grab a few drinks quick. The drinks were fine, not exactly priced right for the amount of alcohol they actually put in, but that's not the issue I had. When I closed out my tab I left a $3 tip (my bill was 14.30). So that brought my bill to 17.30. I looked this morning and they charged me $25. So someone thought it was alright to add almost an extra $8 to my bill? Also, the service itself was sub-par. You could look right at a bartender and they walked the other way. I will not be going back here.

I have thought long and hard about this review. I have been there many times and had a variety of experiences good and bad. The good far out weight the bad. Firstly the service is average, the restaurant is clean, parking is easy enough. The outside seating is a bonus when the weather cooperates. What I've liked: - Once I happened to be there early in the day and the bar needed to swap out a keg. I was lucky enough to get a free beer when they emptied the keg! - Another time my date had some food allergies and the waiter took great panes to fins out what dishes she could eat. Later the manager even came by to chat and prepare something special, who could ask for more service then that? I was impressed. Truly. This experience was a month ago and hence the four rating. - Service at the bar is always good. What I've not liked: - Table service is simply spotty. Sometimes the table is still wet. Sometimes the service is very slow. Sometimes the food is late or comes with the appetizers.

I thought this place was really fun and our bartender was very friendly and attentive. I'm not a beer drinker and I was glad that they carried Angry Orchard here. I prefer it over Woodchuck any day! I also thought that it was cool that you can buy your own cup and have it hung up above the bar so that it's there every time you. Drinks: 4 Value: 4 Service: 4.5 Overall: 4

Food is never very good. Wings are always undercooked. Staff friendly, but not in the business of making sure things are right. Beer is warm

I will preface this by saying this was not a busy night. There were people at tables, sure, but there was no wait and there were plenty of options for seating. Pros: there are TVs everywhere playing all manner of sports. This is probably to help take your mind off the rest of the establishment. Cons: I had to ask for a menu and napkins. This should have been a clue. It took about 10 mins to get water and 30 minutes from the time we ordered our beer to receive it. This was after multiple people at the table reminded two servers we had yet to receive our beer. We decided to forego getting entrees based on the already abysmal wait time and instead get the pretzel sticks. These came after about 10 mins. Of course they were also cold in the middle and served with some sort of mustard that tasted like tile cleaner. The cheese sauce was decent. It reminded me of the cheese that was served with the nachos at my old high schools football games. Our server had to ask everyone at the table what they ordered as he neglected to write anything down and obviously forgot what the party had. And to top it off, one person in the party ordered a dessert which never came. Conclusion: avoid this place. Don't even go for beer unless you plan to be out for a while.

Only good for college crowd who don't care for service, or sports bar fanatics. Slow service and waiter and waitresses are all college kids who talk loud, and mess with one another. And when there bored they just sit down and fool around. My waiter disappeared for a good ten mins, and when I asked another waiter for him, he goes and screams his name through out the place. Not a good look. Food isn't great and it is expensive. 10 dollars for a cheeseburger that was small and it came with chips -_- fries were a dollar extra. Chicken tenders are greasy and always burnt. Sandwiches range from 10-14 dollars which are VERY small and okay tasting. Drinks weren't bad, only thing I like. It's okay to come here for the bar. Not a good family place. This place has potential, but it disappoints me all the time. Wish there was a better bar that would take its place. It is always empty here too, went here on a Saturday night, and it was empty. Bars in fairfax aren't much of a draw anyways except hard times. Go somewhere else!

My friends and I came here for happy hour one night. It was easy to get to and there's a huge garage that connects to the shopping plaza. We managed to grab a high top in the bar on a busy Thursday night. Overall the atmosphere was nice but I wasn't really impressed. My margarita was so so and so was the food. Service was a little slow - I get it was busy, but it seemed as if it was just one server for the whole bar. We had to ask for things a few times and it took her a long time to come back and take our orders. This would be a great place to watch sports though. So many big screens and you can listen in on whatever game from your table.

*****2 1/2 Stars**** The Green Turtle is your typical sports bar. TVs everywhere. Even in the booths, which was kind of cool to see. Food is just average and does offer happy hour deals. Our server was good though and we had a group of 12. So props to the service.

As my review appears to have been pulled I am re-posting it. Also, as an update to the billing issue the manager did finally call back but "could not find the receipt" and instructed that it should be taken up with the credit card company, not them, even though they initiated the charge. Funny how like others they cannot find an overcharge in their records. Also of note, he would not provide his name. Never have I left a bar more thirsty for a beer than the green turtle. I used to just think the service was beyond terrible, but I have since come to the conclusion that it is a government sponsored experiment on the amount of abuse one can take before snapping, as it is the only thing that justifies the fact that this place is still in business. Your presence is a burden to them (which they have no problem of showing) and management is beyond incompetent. I have been here 6-7 times and every time I leave I swear I will never return, only to be lured back by no-cover MMA fights and naive friends. Last trip was the Jones fight. Sat at the bar while the staff hid in the corner with the management doing everything in their power to avoid eye contact and the exhausting endeavor of having to tend the bar. They must have cost the place at least $5k in drink sales alone. The real kicker was when they started cleaning the bar an hour before last call, signalling to everyone that their hours of trying to get the staff's attention for a drink were simply an exercise in futility. Also, be warned. Like so many other posts be sure to keep your receipt, not because management will correct the inevitable wrong billing (they will be too busy when you call to straighten it out), but because you will need it when you file your complaint with the credit card company and better business bureau. Can't believe this place is still in business.

Our first time in Fairfax and sort-of stumbled into this place. A bit over the top on the sports bar theme and food that was okay. I'm come back to watch the game and have a drink, but probably not for dinner.

It must be said first off that I've only been here once. It's not the type of place I would normally go to, I don't think, but a friend was having a birthday party here. Considering I don't think anyone notified the establishment that we were going to be a sizable group coupled with the fact that it was trivia night, they were fairly accommodating. We did have some difficulty getting our sever's attention, though, so frequently went to the bar to order and pick up drinks. Somehow wanting to do this and pay cash for each round really messed up the guy behind the bar. Prices seemed a touch high, but I suppose that's probably due to the area. Food wise I only ate some fries as I wasn't hungry. Other people ate and said it their food was "okay". In short, an okay place to meet for a drink or two, but not anywhere I'd go out of my way to visit.

Having two turtles of my own, I was already excited just at the name of this bar! I came here for happy hour with a couple of my friends and we really enjoyed it. Draft beers are $2-$4 and all appetizers are half off from 3-8pm. They also had $4 mimosas and margaritas. The margarita was very tasty as well as the "Angry Orchard" beer. I HATE beer (can't even stand Woodchuck), but this one was so good!! I would've gotten a second, maybe even third glass if I knew I didn't have to drive home. If you like apple cider, you'll love this beer. For our appetizers, we went with the loaded waffle fries, the blackened chicken quesadilla, and the crab flatbread. My favorites were the fries (they could have had a little more cheese, though) and crab flatbread - the quesadilla was a little bland. Our server was very nice, but a little slow on checking back with us for refills and condiments. Other than that, I love this recent addition to Old Town Fairfax and will definitely be coming back soon!

There were more TV screens in this restaurant than we've ever seen anywhere else. If you want to watch a game or gymnastics or skateboarding or any other sport, you'll find it on one of the TVs here! We enjoyed our food just fine. Kid friendly. Prices were fine. Felt a bit private. Lots of booths. I think the service is used to people coming and staying a long time as they watch a game. Service was almost excruciatingly slow. It didn't help that our kids had a lot of homework to do waiting at home. Our waiter had to help out at the bar a lot of the evening. He is the bar tender a lot. And helps Out at the bar. Our drinks took a long time to arrive & that was surprising. Our food took a while to arrive. Just the whole thing was slow. Clean, nice decor. Good food. Friendly staff. Lots of TVs. Enjoyed my clams and kids enjoyed their dessert. Waiter gave us the dessert free due to slow service. We will go back. For sure. But it will need to be a time when we are not in a hurry! ----- Update: We went back for a second time a few weeks after I wrote the above. I was previously a waitress and was prepared for slow slow service. And we didn't have a lot of time to spare. None, actually. So when the waiter first arrived, we were ready to order our drinks *and* our food. When he brought the food, we asked for napkins. When he brought those, we asked for the check. Then we enjoyed our food and I was surprised, actually, how long it took for the check to come. It did finally arrive. And my husband had his credit card ready to go. It took a while to get that back .... but we were able to leave in a reasonable time to get to where we needed to go. I do feel this was only because I kept the waiter going on to the next thing without waiting to flag him down when we needed him. Now that I know how to do this restaurant, we'll go back again. The food is pretty good!

The service was terrible, no hostess at the stand both times I have gone over the last couple months. The drinks are overpriced. While the menu states you can have your burger cooked the way you would like, medium rare, it is going to come out well done. Go to Glory Days a couple of miles away for a well run sports bar. Green Turtle is awful.

We had dinner at the Greene Turtle after receiving a $10 coupon in the mail. Things seemed OK until the end of the meal when I started to feel sick. I had to run to the bathroom with diarrhea. It turned out that we both had food poisoning after eating here. Which is really scary considering that I am pregnant. I am never eating here again.

I been to GreeneTurtle before, and I have to say the place is nice and people are very friendly. I really don't like the service here. I sat in the cocktail table with bunch of friends and no one came by to take the drink order. I went up to the bar to order, and the bartender advised that someone else is working at the tables and I should wait. BULLSHIT! I sat around about 8 min, and we walked out. Horrible service.

I've tried this place a couple of times since they opened, with both of those times being well after any new restaurant things should be worked out. Additionally, both those times were several months apart, leaving me hopeful that things might have changed in the intervening time. Alas, was not to be. The food is somewhere south of mediocre. Fries are overly greasy, burgers not cooked as specified and dryer than pocket lint, and everything else seems as though it had seen its best days in the back of a Sysco truck. The beer selection is decidedly average with nothing you can't see anywhere else in a one mile radius and the liquor selection is far below average. Service is not any better than the food. It isn't that the servers and bar staff are cruel, mean, or intentionally ignoring you; they just don't seem to have ever worked for tips, in a restaurant, or really anywhere else for that matter. Oblivious would be the perfect term here, with plates not picked up, glasses not refilled, or even the idea that the person sitting down for ten minutes might have come in for a reason other than just watching a TV. I would hardly call them a typical sports bar/restaurant or really even that bad of a place. They either just don't seem to have their act together or just really don't care about making money. At least the place was fairly clean overall and nothing broken or hanging off the ceiling for no reason.

Came here on a Tuesday night for their Trivia Night! The guy in charge of Trivia does a great job, and it was a lot of fun. Would come back again on Tuesdays for trivia, or to watch a sports game if I was in the area. Food was okay, pretty much what you expect from a Sports Bar Restaurant. All in all a nice place! Plus they do offer 15% off to the military so that is always a plus in my book!

Uhh the service here is really awful. We arrived on a busy Saturday night- many big college football games on. However, there was no one at the hostess stand. We wandered around the bar and in the dining area looking for the private room. I don't know if they were understaffed or what, but it was really annoying. The drinks were replaced ok, but the food was pretty slow and a major lack of attention to detail: wrong type of fries (they have both regular and sweet potato), no silverware, no napkins. I did enjoy the pretzels and queso though. I will try to avoid in the future since it was a pretty terrible overall.

I've been here several times for lunch and dinner over the past several months. Generally get the burgers and have tried most of them and haven't been disappointed yet. They've been cooked properly, meat seems to be good quality, and toppings all have been good. Fish and chips was also well-prepared and tasty. Had a cheesesteak on the last visit that was way too salty, but otherwise OK. They serve potato chips instead of fries (you can substitute regular or sweet potato fries for an extra charge) with meals but they seem to be a bit stingy with them, given that they can probably make a whole plate full of chips out of less than one whole potato. The place is new (opened about 2 years ago), bright and clean inside, with TVs all over the place. Prices are on the high side for bar food, but don't seem out of line for what you get. The big problem here is the service. Not the servers mind you, because we've had different servers each time, and they've always been friendly and attentive. But it almost always takes way too long to get the food out, given the type of food they serve. Lunch or dinner, even when there are almost no other diners, plan for a least an hour for a meal, and this doesn't include any time dallying over drinks, appetizers, or desserts (although I did get out in about 40 minutes once at lunch when the place was almost empty). They used to have a 6.99 burger special every Monday but that now seems to have been replaced by a new loyalty program.

The Greene Turtle doesn't disappoint and I have been to several of their locations. I'm in love with their chicken cheesesteaks! Generous cuts of chicken stuffed in a hoagie roll and covered with slices of provolone. Pure awesomeness! This location is a quiet little place as opposed to the one by the Verizon Center in DC. Therefore, you're bound to get prompt service and friendliness from the waitstaff. Public parking can be a little confusing but that's not the fault of The Greene Turtle.

  • Jessica H.

Awful service both times I have been here, i don't plan on returning with friends or family. Waitresses are not familiar with the specials, slow and even very rude managers. Maybe they just treat younger college students this way, but seeing as they are located in a college town and most of their customers are students, this isn't helping their business. After talking to multiple people after a recent fundraiser there, who had similar experiences, it is clear that they are losing more and more customers.

Well, well. I was at the turtle on 5-16-2012 and had a pretty decent meal. The atmosphere was great, and the food was good. In short this place was fun and far exceeded my expectations.I am glad that there is something good going on in downtown (old town) Fairfax other then Indian cuisine and offices. I came here on a week night and the server didn't have any knowledge of the beer they offer. The food was less than impressive. The atmosphere wasnt very impressive either. I got the country fried chicken waited a good 30 minutes for it to come out and it was literally big enough for a 2 year old!! Definitely not worth the $11. I came here hungry and now I'm leaving hungry and mad. I'm going to McDonald's right now to get some real food. To top it all they were over charging me $10!!! What a terrible place! Never coming here again and you shouldn't either.

Really, really bad service, this restaurant needs new management and staff. It's unfortunate because I love the food at the Greene Turtle so I tried to overlook the terrible service, but this past time put me over the edge. I ordered one glass of wine and my bill was $9.00, the next day I look at my bank statement and I was charged $24.18. I call the restaurant and I am told the manager will call me back... half the day passes and still no call so I call again, the manager answers this time and tells me it's his "busy hour" but he will look into the discrepancy for me and call me back. It has been 3 days, no call, still out of $24.18. I won't be returning until this place gets new management and a little customer service.

I wish this weren't the case, but I just haven't been very impressed with the Turtle in my multiple dealings with them. I've been to this location, the one in the Verizon Center, and the one down in Fredericksburg. Each time I've gone, there hasn't been anything to make me want to come back. The food is decent at best. I ordered the fish tacos, which were alright but nothing special. They could've been a bit hotter, but other than that they were largely ok. The thing is, they were by far the best dish any of us got (I was there with four other people). Two of my friends ordered buffalo wings, and both of their orders were undercooked, which is quite dangerous. Both of them were showing the rest of us how the meat was still bloody near the bone- gross. The atmosphere is the only thing that the Turtle has going for it. There are probably 75 TVs in each location, and all of them are set to the local teams, making it a good place to watch the Capitals over drinks. Just don't go there for dinner, too. There's a small outdoor seating area when weather permits it, but eating outside prevents you from having access to a TV- the whole point of coming here. So that's it, really. Come for the sports, drink your fill, then leave and eat somewhere else. I wish that weren't the case, but it definitely is.

We really enjoy it here. I'm surprised at all the negative reviews! Always have had great service (although we've not sat in the bar area). We haven't explored the whole menu - but I've found it to be above-average bar-food for the most part. Their soft pretzels, though, are amazing - the best I've had outside of Philly (I'm from the Philly area)! Their wings are great, and hog-hammers - sometimes we just order appetizers! I also really like their chicken cheese-steak. The atmosphere is really fun, great place to hang with a game on. We go here at least twice a month!

Great place to watch a game, but only if that's all you plan on doing. Drinks took almost twenty minutes to arrive, and we're wrong when they did (But in the interest of time, we dealt with it). Over an hour passed before our food (A salad, two orders of wings, and a side of fries) finally came out. I would understand if this was during the game, but the game had ended two hours prior. Will not be back. Edit/Update: Our food arrive almost an our and a half after seating, missing an order of wings (We ended up canceling them when they had still not arrive twenty minutes later). The "manager" (Whom we were never able to speak to, despite numerous requests; nor did he/she ever make him/herself available, as one would expect when things are going this poorly) "comped" the second order of wings (Again, the order we never received) and the waited tried to force free dessert on us to make up for his errors (Which he never admitted to). Once they split our checks (Cue another fifteen or so minutes), he claimed the splitting was funny because of the time span between our drinks and our food. Had he put the food in when we ordered, it would have been *maybe* fifteen minutes after we got our drinks. Last time I checked, 15 minutes isn't enough to prevent splitting a check because of time. In my years working in the service industry, it takes a lot for me to not tip (And I have never not done so, even in some awful situations), but this took the cake. As stated above, I will not be back (Further confirmed by my getting sick an hour after leaving--I had a salad with grilled chicken, I guess even that's not safe).

We have been here a few times, sitting in the bar area. We had to ask if we had a server, ask for menus and when one server said she would bring us menu she never did. Food sucks it's over cooked and over priced. Our server did not have an inviting personality if one at all.

Disappointed. Went for a family-friendly St Pattys day as their website claimed... Had to ask for the holiday specials and were brought a greasy paper with just 2 specials on it... Food was expensive for the quality... Waitress was NOT helpful, and worst of all... The advertised "live acoustic music" that was scheduled to start at 1pm (which is why we chose this place today!) was nowhere to be found. Waitress also had no idea about this, shockingly.

I would like to start off by saying that I have worked in the service industry in the past, and believe in being very generous regarding patience and tipping. It is not an easy job. We arrived early at this location on a Saturday night to watch UFC, so grateful that The Greene Turtle is one of the few locations to offer it to their customers. We sat at the bar and started a tab with my debit card. After ordering our beers we had to ask for menus (no biggie), mentioning that we planned to eventually order more after placing an appetizer order. The place soon began to fill up with more UFC fans, so initially it was completely understandable for a delay in being able to order more drinks. The delay was increased due to the bartender socializing with friends at the end of the bar. Again, not even remotely upset at this point. However, as the crowd settled it became apparent to me that there is a serious service problem here. I was repeatedly ignored as I had my hand out to signal we were ready for more drinks (I don't believe in yelling out). When that didn't work, I placed my empty bottle near the edge of the bar, only to have the bartender grab it and keep walking. We overheard patrons behind us complaining about the same thing, to the point where we were all joking with one another about how ridiculous it was. Where were the bartenders at this point? They focused on congregating at the end of the bar near the kitchen, which seemed to be the social area for the employees. When they did walk by, they avoided eye contact, NEVER ONCE asked if we needed anything, and we had to make quite the effort to order more food (the open menu in front of us didn't clue them in, even after 20 minutes). At midnight, they began to break down the bar and completely stopped serving everyone, even though almost every seat was still occupied . At first I thought it was last call, but then I observed the bartender pouring drinks for the servers. At the end of the night, my boyfriend summarized it perfectly by saying he couldn't wait to go home so that he could have a drink. But unfortunately it gets worse. My boyfriend decided to pay with his credit card, but I noticed an additional $35.00 charge to my debit card. In talking to the manager, he acknowledged that he had a record of my boyfriend's payment for the full amount, but no record of my charge. He couldn't explain the random amount either. His advice was to dispute the charge with my bank, causing me to have to cancel my debit card, leaving me without access to my account for a week!!! I've also had to fill out paperwork with my bank and provide the receipt of the alternate payment (not easy when I live in Ohio and someone else paid the bill)! I was extremely cordial to the manager, even though he refused to give me his last name so that I could put it on the paperwork my bank required. It would have been nice to hear him say he would follow up by making his managers aware, as there clearly is some kind of accounting problem. All in all, there are a lot of restaurants to choose from. I would avoid this place. It has not been worth the hassle it has caused me.

I never review things on yelp, but I felt I needed to. I go in with a couple of friends on New Years Eve and sit in the bar area. We sit at a table for 15 minutes and no wait staff comes up to us. We move table and after 10 minutes I flag down a waiter to take our order but he asks for a second to deal with another table and I'm ok with that. 5 minutes later I flag down the bartender who just delivered drinks and was finally able to order. The waiter brings us our drink and says if we want anything else to go to the bar, even though every other table in the place was being served by him. Not once did they ever ask if we wanted food, and didn't even give us a menu. Previous customers empty cups and trash sat on our table for 45 minutes, until I put it on the tray that the bartender had left sitting at our table and the manager took it away. I had one beer and left which took about an hour. Second time this has happened at this place, and it'll be the last. I know it was NYE, but it was in no way overly busy at 9pm.

Very nice bar scene for those in their mid-20's. We came on a Monday night and it wasn't crowded nor empty. Our bartender was really friendly and offered free bday shots for our party. We all tried the ORCHARD APPLE CIDER BEER on tap and it was delicious- it really tasted like apple cider and wasn't too strong which is great for non-beer lovers. Special HH beers/drinks are offered daily as well and are displayed on screens above the bar. Each mug is numbered too, which I thought was pretty cool. Plus, the bathrooms were nice and clean =) Overall, I can't wait to come back!

Wouldn't go back...Service was horrible and basically had to beg to get a waitress. Ordered the chicken tenders that were clearly cooked in OLD oil. Came out dark brown and very greasy. Fries were horribly greasy too. The place was oddly empty for a Saturday Night. Menu prices are high for a sports bar...

I am really excited a Greene Turtle is open now in Fairfax! It's going to be very welcomed in Fairfax City! I really enjoy their menu and will be back for many happy hours!! The service was a bit slow and there were some difficulties with our bill, but I am not going to reduce the stars for that until I have a chance to try it out as they've been open a little longer. They're certainly all still learning at this new location. They have TVs at nearly all the dining tables and TVs cover the perimeter of the bar area. A great place to go to watch games. They also have a patio outside, but we chose to go inside to watch the Pens v. Flyers playoff game. It looked pleasant though and the people outside were able to enjoy the live music at the Wine House next door.

Great family restaurant. Good service. Restaurant is comparable to Applebee's or Fridays. But again, is better than these similar options. The music and atmosphere is not too loud, and we went in with a group of 7 including kids and were seated immediately. Very kid friendly.

We were excited a nicer sports bar was moving into Fairfax City, and since the Greene Turtle opened, we've been several times: twice for dinner, twice for late-night, after-work drinks. I'm sorry to say that I've left each time hoping the next time will be a better experience than the time before. However, the beer is cold, I like the interior, and the TVs are well-placed, so I'm keeping hope alive. The menu is standard bar fare, and although there are a lot of items, it seems they're all prepared well enough. Because it's a regional chain, I would expect the kitchen's preparation and operation to be solid. It's a science, and a good chain would have the workflow down pat and the dishes perfected. But the menu and food aren't the Turtle's problem: It's the staff. There seems to be a core group of senior staff members who are very capable, professional and dedicated. Then there's the rest of the staff. I realize this is a new place; I understand there's a learning curve. When a restaurant opens, I can forgive a lack of follow-through (e.g. drinks refilled, replaced silverware, a glass of water served). However, I'm not so quick to overlook a general lack of professionalism -- and neither are other patrons who could make or break this restaurant. On the couple of occasions we went to the Turtle for late-night, after-work drinks, we noticed more than several staffers drinking at the bar. They were off duty, but we knew they were staff. They should have faded into the background with the other patrons, but they were too chatty with the staff that was on duty. A week ago, we stopped in after work and witnessed a similar scene: Off-duty staffers drinking heavily. They weren't just drinking a beer after shift, they were wasted. At one point, the female bartender handed a bottle of Jager to one off-duty staffer and let him pour three generous shots for himself and two buddies, who also seemed to be off-duty staff. I'm not well-versed in Virginia liquor laws, but I'd be willing to bet that if Alcohol Law Enforcement had witnessed that, the Turtle could have lost its liquor license. That said, the Turtle is part of an established chain. I'm sure at some point that someone from HQ will take note of the Fairfax franchise's growing pains and changes will be made -- more training, retraining, cutting inadequate staff, etc. Like I said, there seems to be a core group of senior staff who are dedicated to the restaurant's success and a nice sports bar is a welcome addition to Fairfax City. But the store isn't going to make money from the staffers who drink after shift; the profits will come from Fairfax City's patrons who have more discretionary income to burn, the ones who can bulk up a check and will be glad to return.

I've been here for a small post-work-get-together and for dinner a few times. The food is okay, but not that great. We've had nice servers each time. We either come here to be with friends that have suggested it or because we want to get out of the house to watch some sports. We love that the booths have their own TV. But as just a place to have a meal, it's not our first pick.

Tried again on Saturday and service was noticeably better and food came much quicker; seemed like they had more staff on hand. Would recommend giving them a try on the weekend, adding another star..

I came to The Greene Turtle just to hangout with some of my friends while they grabbed some dinner. What I noticed was their awful and much needed improvement of service. The waitress is quick to come to the table at first, but after you order your drink she is hard to find. On top of that, I waited with my friends for over 30 minutes for their food to arrive. They had placed their order 15 minutes before I got there, so the total wait time for their food was over 45 minutes on a very slow Tuesday night. I'm not sure how long it takes to make 1 sandwich, 1 burger, and 1 fish taco, but 45 minutes is pushing it. On top of that, a couple at another table ordered way after my friends and they still got their food before they did. I also watched as someone from the kitchen came to hangout with his group of friends because they surprised him with a birthday cake. Very nice thing to do, but I think sitting down for 20 minutes talking and eating cake is a little much when orders need to be filled. Do that on your own time buddy. The waitress did make excuses for the kitchen because it was a new menu and all. Maybe if the staff wasn't eating cake, the orders would of come through quicker. Only reason this place is getting 2 stars is because the food was cooked to order (medium rare burger) and my friends liked the food (except for the burnt sandwich bread). My coworkers also had a bad experience here with their service. Come for the food and alcohol, leave with bad service and a shoddy tip.

This place is better than the 2.5 stars it has on yelp. Service was a little slow to get to us when we sat down, but I think they were in-between shifts when we got there - once our waiter came over, service was prompt and we enjoyed ourselves just fine! Definitely go during happy hour and take advantage of drink specials. The wrap I had was tasty.

My boyfriend and I like to come here to watch football. When we sat down we asked for Yuengling and were promptly shut down. How the heck does a Northern VA bar not have Yuengling? Our waitress Taylor E. was barely around and when she was, she was not friendly at all. I dunno about you but when I am staying for a whole football game and more I want food, food, beer and more beer. If she would have not been so absent we would have spent way more money here. My boyfriend wants to find another place to watch football which is a loss for the Greene turtle.

I've been here several times and will keep coming back. They have some decent microbrews on tap that I want to keep trying. Last time I went I had the buffalo chicken dip that comes in a bread bowl. It tasted great, and I will probably order it again. The only negative experience I had was with the Manhattan I ordered -- I'm near certain it actually ended up being a Coke and Whiskey and a few of my friends thought so too after taking a sip.

A great selection of craft brews, I'd recommend the Port City Optimal Witt. French Onion soup is decent, but nothing special. We were here n a karaoke night, which I am adamantly opposed to, but the singers were surprisingly good. Nice atmosphere, easy to watch any sports games!

Fair. Decent service, standard food, way expensive with little personality. Sorry Turtle, Fairfax needs better.

After three visits, I hoped it would get better. It hasn't. The food is okay, the atmosphere is nice, but the wait staff is just hopelessly inexperienced, inattentive, and unprofessional. Tonight was the worst, after waiting for ten minutes for an outside table to be bussed, we reminded the hostess we were still waiting. We then went outside and bussed our own table while she watched. We sat down and waited another ten minutes before just walking out. This team of kids needs some serious adult supervision.

Hands down, the service here is horrible. I think every person on the wait staff has never waited tables before. The food is mediocre, at best. That is, if you even get your food and don't have to remind the waiter. I've been here 4 times and have the same crummy experience each visit. Oh, and the hostess was texting on her phone as I left with my kids after our meal. Never again!

This place just opened and I am already a fan. I love going here because they have everything you want in a sports bar. The food, service, and specials are very good. The personalized TV sets at each booth is a nice feature if you can't get a seat in the bar area which is also very nice. The location of the Turtle has two parking lots very close to it which is a nice feature in Fairfax. As long as they keep up the good work I will keep going here. They made me feel like a regular after the first week. I haven't been here late at night so I'm not to sure if it remains a mixed crowd (in terms of age) but whenever I go for a hockey game it's usually people my own age at the bar and most of the booths mixed with families.

Your typical neighborhood restaurant bar, just a step up from Applebees, but a far more fun atmosphere. They have TVs at all or most tables with tons of large flat screens in the bar. There is a mug club which is really appealing for locals or regulars. They have a great happy hour and decent bar food/appetizers with a good selection of sandwiches, too. But it is obvious that the food is not healthy or upscale in any way. Really only our go-to for beer and bar snacks.

I have been coming in for the Trivia nights for several months, and I have to let you know it is the BEST Trivia game my group has ever been involved with! We were extremely disappointed to learn Green Turtle had cancelled the Bingo show! It was a hoot, and something our parents enjoyed when they were visiting. Service is a little slow, but the food is pretty great when we get it.

Gotta yelp the turtle! I love it! The staff is super friendly and the food is decent "bar" food. I love the soft pretzel(s) with the crab dip. It is one of my go-to places. When its hockey season, get there atleast an hour or two before the CAPS play or there will be a wait. The only reason I dont give it 5 out of 5 is because their outdoor patio service is a let down, they tend to forget about you!

After a couple months this place has adjusted to the surroundings, an their menu and staff have acclimated to the customers. The bartenders are pleasant, the pod quality had definitely improved immensely, and the waiters are now knowledgeable pleasant and efficient. I am happy to see such a huge positive change in this place!

The old menu was good, but the new menu is even better! Their crab mac & cheese is delicious, as is the crab dip with pretzels. My friends and i come here at least once a week for Girls Night. Ed the bartender is our favorite. He always greets everyone by name and is quick to offer up drink suggestions. Their happy hours are great, and now they have Trivia Nights on Tuesday...so much fun!

So my wife and I decided to try GT again even after a horrrible experience a week or so ago. We sat at the bar this time and received better service but I guess it will be since they had 2 fulltime bartenders behind bar the whole time. However we noticed yet again extremely poor service by waitresses in hightop areas. We witnessed another annoyed family have to go to bartender for refills several times. Clearly this restaurant is under staffed OR the staff doesn't care about their customers. Noticed everyone ordering food but rarely a waiter or waitress going to tables for refills or ask if food was good. Our bartender was attentive and had no problem with refills though. We watched hightop area for at least 30 minutes while we sat there and had to yelp this again since it needs addressed at management level. Look at recent reviews folks, service is bad. I do want to end on some good note though...the food is awesome as usual but we will go back to my other favorite place at University Mall until I start seeing better reviews for service etc.

This bar has so much potential because it has a lot of screens for sport watching. However, I have had TERRIBLE service here. I sat through an entire basketball game and was only brought one drink the entire time. And that's not because I didn't want more, the server was just slow and forgetful. The second time I came the service wasn't much better. There's other sports bars in the area. If you're in a rush or want to drink more than one beer an hour I suggest somewhere else.

30 mins to get food even though there were few people there, food was Luke warm due to sitting back in kitchen, manager did not bother to stop by even though we told waitress. Have a beer, watch tv and skip the food

I went to the Green Turtle to hangout with some friends since it was my roommates birthday. We arrived and two of my friends were sitting at a table already. They informed me that the service was terrible and they had to order drinks from the bar. We ended up ordering drinks after 15 minutes from the bar. We wanted to order food so we ended up flagging down a waitress after we had been there for 40 minutes and ordered some food. Then after an hour and a half the waitress told us that the kitchen sent out our food to another table because they ordered exactly what we ordered. At this point there were only 3 other tables there and no one had food. She said the food would be out in 5 minutes and 15 minutes later still no food. Finally when I asked to talk to manager. The manager, whom was wearing a shirt that was too big and his pants were also too big for him, came over and said that he was busy in the back helping in the kitchen and that they were slammed. I then called him on his lie because he was standing behind me for 30 minutes talking to his friends at the bar. He then admitted he was wrong and that the restaurant was not properly staffed for a Monday. He then offered to comp our meal but we told him at this point we did not want to eat here any more. He then offered to pay for our drink and again we told him we were interested and since we already paid for them at the bar. He then informed us that he would "take care of us (basically telling us he would get us drunk)" on Thursday and Friday nights if we came back because he was a bartender. I am not one to complain about an occasional free drink or anything but it came across as he was trying to bribe us and break ABC regulations. We declined his offer and then he ran to the back and gave the group (6 people) five $5 coupons. I personally find that the Fairfax location comical and would never return to them. I think they will stay open for 6 months with the way things are currently being run. Personally, I would be ashamed to be associated with the Green Turtle at that location. I will not be coming back. Oh.... We ended up ordering pizza and buying beer from 7-11 and chilling out at home after that outing. Still more fun then the Green Turtle. I think they could get pointers on customer service from Applebee's.

Food was average. Nice looking place with nice TVs for sports fans. Mixed food reviews. Burgers and Mac and Cheese were good. Salad was just so so. Server was pretty bad she lacked basic customer service skills. So server gets 2 stars but the food and place gets 3 stars.

My fiance and I went to GT to watch Sunday football last week. GT is a local bar, easy to get to, so we have tried it out a couple of times, hoping it would be better. After this experience, I think we're done for good. Upon arrival, we were told by the waitress that all of the beer taps were dispensing warm beer and that unless we wanted the warm beer, we needed to order bottled beer. No problem. The problem was that by the 3rd quarter of the game, the waitress only had 4 selections of bottled beer left. It's understandable that the beer would eventually run out, so wouldn't the manager request beer from the neighboring Arlington Green Turtle or perhaps just go to the store to buy more cases? This would've been better than standing in the corner to watch the games. The food was just as bad. I ordered a cheeseburger. The lettuce was wilted and smaller than the palm of my hand. The tomato was soggy. The burger was burnt to a crisp. My friend ordered the "THAI" pork tacos which was really just BBQ pork on a taco...nothing THAI about it. The waitresses were all very good. They were friendly and checked in qute often. The food has never been great at GT in the past. Hopefully, this sports bar will clean up a bit because it would be a shame to lose out on a local bar.

We keep hoping this will be our local hangout. Problem is, it's just not that great. We went in on a Friday night with a large group (11 adults and 11 kids). The manager was obviously very annoyed with us from the beginning. He said the kitchen couldn't handle getting that many orders at one time. We assured him that we weren't going to get much, just wanted "pub" food (wings and beer, etc.) We ended up ordering a little more than that (some sandwiches, etc.) but we NEVER complained that it was slow, even though it was, because we knew we were a big group and we originally said we wouldn't order too much. The manager did, however, come over to us to snap, "This is a little more than wings and beer!" And then he haughtily stomped away. What an asshole. If you're not prepared to fill your restaurant to capacity on a Friday night then maybe you need to look for a different job. What a turn off he was. On another note, I ordered the flatbread pizza. It was disgusting. Tasted like something I make at home on crust rolled out of a can and sauce from a jar. Giant mounds of really hard cheese. Yuck. I can't cook, it's sort of why I like to go out in the first place. I'll go the Green Turtle again for the beer only. And seriously, that manager needs to go.

Husband & I went in to The Green Turtle to just grab something to eat before hitting a nearby Irish pub. It was a bit busy so we grabbed a couple seats at the bar. Asked for a couple menus, decided what we each wanted, and waited. Waited some more. Finally, since the bartender would barely make eye contact, my husband asked a waitress who happened to walk behind the bar if we could give her our order. I actually had to double check and make sure she was wearing the pub t-shirt (she was) since she seemed so caught off guard to be asked to help us. I ordered a veggie flat bread sandwich and my husband ordered a salad. They were just grilled vegetables and a salad yet took a ridiculous amount of time to get to us. We finally asked the bartender if he could check with the kitchen as to when our food would be out. Five minutes after he checked it finally got to us (by the same expressionless girl). Basically: Decent food, terrible service. I don't need someone to be Suzy Sunshine to me but at least acknowledge customers, make some eye contact and toss a smile out there once in a while, you're in the service business!
