Chinese Cuisine
The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.
Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.
There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.

Seafood is good! Sushi is not that bad. Skip everything else. This is a generic Chinese buffet. Quantity over quality. The service is decent though, great value for ur money

All the old, horrible smells, stupid waitresses! food is so-so! like something to eat there, but did not have a delicious, went without a sense of satiety, unhappy! ((

Recently dined here while on vacation with my family. Perhaps We came on a bad day? Our experience was well below average. My dining table was sticky. The food was not seasoned well. My soda tasted flat. Once we were shown to our table, our waitress never returned to our table to check on us. Giving this establishment a rating of 1 star is awful generous of me... Would not recommend this joint if you're looking for a satisfying Chinese buffet meal.

Not a lot of varieties and the soda was hot! The place was hot as he'll as well. Never going again. Expensive for no freaking reason

I love and enjoy buffets very much but the food has gone downhill here, it's a hit or miss. I have been coming here with my family for a couple of years and we eventually stopped because it wasn't worth the money even for $12. Service isn't bad, they just bring you drinks and napkins...not that hard. There are plenty of buffets and/or chinese places to go but it's definitely not this one.

This place has horrible HORRIBLE HORRIBLE SERVICE!!! Rude and inexperienced servers. The food was ok at best. Pick another place.

Ended up here because family wanted to eat buffet on Saturday. About 10 years ago I was excited to go to Peter Pan and it was an affordable dinner. The price still isn't bad for a buffet which includes a drink too. The line was chaotic and there were 4-5 tour buses bringing people here this night. Not sure when that became a thing. The floor manager ended yelling at costumers who were yelling at each other (speaking in a language I didn't understand so I don't know what it was about) and it made things awkward. I'm more of a meat eater and the best thing I had was the peking duck wraps and fries (surprise). I felt bad for the server b/c he had to prepare that and the soup (soup base bland). I was excited to see chow fun because I don't usually see that at buffets but I regretted it. Normally my bf loves crawfish but only had a handful here (check out Teppanyaki grill buffet in Richmond for good seasoned buffet crawfish). My bro said the sushi was good. Servers are somewhat efficient in clearing plates.

Is it too much to get what I paid for? I guess not since we're dealing with a buffet here. The place feels like a cafeteria with 90s decor but who cares, it's buffet. We tried many things with a high consistency of mediocre to bad but who cares, it's buffet. Dry fried chicken, dry greasy bbq ribs, watery soft bean curd(taho), bland overcooked steamed salmon, bland Peking duck, kids grabbing stale fries from the serving station with their bare hands, stale cardboard pizza, etc, but who cares, it's buffet! At some point while eating here, I had to reflect on my life. Why did I get that third plate stacked high with food that only 50% ended up in me and the rest in the trash? Why did I keep shoveling it in when at some point I couldn't tell the difference between chicken and pork. Why didn't I care about diminishing returns after my first plate, oh that's right, it's buffet!

Trying to cancel my review but can't !

Service - a hit or miss. Very attentive in clearing your place. But misses on refilling your drinks - in which I only needed once Food - mediocre. I like the Hong Kong beef noodle soup, that is freshly cooked up for you, the whole crabs that needs to be cracked, and the bok choy. However, I do not like the half crab that the meat is mushy, the eggplant was alright, the mussels were dry, and.. Yea. Price - decent.

I think buffets are inherently gross, but for a buffet, this one is fine. Why would I go to Peter Pan if I don't like buffets? Well, my grandmother loves buffets. I think because she loves crabs, and at this place, you can eat crabs until your brains bust out of your head. I also think Peter Pan does a good job with the steamed fish with scallions. I love steamed fish, and went back for seconds...thirds...fourths... As a word of advice, I'd advise to stay away from the carby options. The fried rice and noodles are way too oily and cheap to waste your time and calories on, especially when you can binge on seafood.
(3)David M.
PP's standards have always been the same years round. I love their sushi station, noodle station, and desert station. Most of its foods are fried and oily, but offer varieties. I also love the peking duck there. Peking duck at a buffet? yea its awesome.

I have been to Peter Pan a couple times. It is an average Asian buffet. As in average, it comes with mostly all the good and bad of them. First off, I will give the pros of the place. There is a lot of different kinds of food available to eat all the time when I get there and that the buffet is always full. There is never an empty pan there, and if there is one that is close to being empty, then it is replaced. I guess that is because there is someone there to make sure of it. The parking lot is great. It has a lot of spaces and is never really full even though it is a small shopping area. In addition, the manager there is very friendly. He will fill in a role whenever it is busy and is the standard of what a manager should be. Now the cons. Lousy service from the employees. The waitresses are lazy and always standing talking to one another or have their faces stuck on their cell phones, only when the manager is not present. The layout of the tables are somewhat cramped. They don't have a lot of moving room, and often people bump into one another on a constant basis. Don't know if there is a limit to how many people that can be in the building, but that should be checked. The bathrooms are very dirty. It looks like someone just set it up on the first day, and left it to rot for the many months or years it has been there. And the middle grounds. The food there has a lot of different quality issues. One dish can be terribly greasy, or salty, or just crap. While other dishes might be great. One thing I will have to say is that it has a large variety. There is always something different to eat and try. The place can also be considered dirty, but when you go to a buffet, what do you expect? It isn't going to have the highest quality of all worlds. Overall, I do recommend people to go, only if they have cravings for different types of foods. If you have something in particular that you want, then go to a restaurant that focuses on that specialty. It's a buffet people.

If you're looking for a good Chinese buffet, keep looking. We've eaten at lots of buffets and this is one of the worst. Hot food was barely warm and cold items were nearly room temperature. Almost everything was bland and mushy. Our drinks were only filled when we asked, after about 15 minutes. We ate at noon on a Saturday, so I'm afraid what a non-peak experience would be like! My first clue was the broken blinds in the window while walking in. NEVER coming back!!!
(1)Elvis L.
Man oh man. Where do I begin. Cons: * dirty!!!! * very dirty!!! * poor service * loud * seating arrangement is terrible * parking is horrible * fake food * greasy * failed inspection once ( for people who don't know ) Pros: * .......
(1)Keven S.
It's an okay place for chinese buffet. price is alright for lunch, but overpriced for dinner or weekends. looks not very clean, but at least it almost has everything, hot bars, fried chickens, bbq, even a sushi and pho station and icecream machine. i know it might not be that clean, but please, i'm not ashamed of my stomach craving for lots of different food at the same time and msg, and oil.
(3)Charlotte L.
I only gave this place a one star because first off the environment and theme of this place is awful. They haven't renovate it for years- around ten? Not to mention they for have ac. They only use fans on this day which is probably in the high 90 degrees. Also this place is very dirty. The tables and chairs are sticky and their service is terrible. All the waitresses look pissed and do not attempt to even seem happy in front of you. They even bumped into me without apologizing. Now about the food. It tastes so oily and looks like they dumped 50 gallons of oil to cook it. Their sushi is mushy and fake. This is worse than eating mcdonalds. But then again I don't expect much for a ten dollar meal, yet your better off with just fast good.To close the button is close to the door to get inside the house The button in the corner upper one
(1)Dennis M.
4 stars for the food 5 stars for the service 4 stars for the decor Here's why.... This place is classic. I remember coming here as a kid in highschool and this place has never changed in quality of service or food. They have everything from frog legs to roast duck to sushi. The manager Lou, he may be the owner, has always been a first class gentleman to my family and I don't expect he'll ever change. Place is starting to look old so I can understand the previous reviews but everyone needs to calm down, this isn't Las Vegas. As far as Chinese buffets in the area go, this place is awesome.
(4)Tunde H.
Very good buffet. Had my favorite item. I was surprised. It was way fresher this time then last time we was there.
(4)Peter K.
While this place was once one of the better places for Chinese buffet in Northern Virginia, sadly the years haven't been kind to it. The food quality and variety has dropped significantly, serving lower quality food over the years. The interior is a bit antiquated, with the store mainly staying alive due to what seems like contracts with a Chinese tourist agency. I'd say the price doesn't match the overall quality. While there are still one or two tasty options there, unless you're coming just for that or to get full, I'd suggest going somewhere else.
(2)Michael D.
Not a good restaurant. The food was not very good, with the exception of the Sushi which appeared to be fresh. Otherwise the variety and freshness of the entire buffer was very poor. Given this level if quality, the $12.85 price is too high.
(1)Aram I.
The only food that was fairly decent was their sushi, of which there were only a couple of pieces. Everything else was pretty terrible and scarce. Btw, we were there about two hours from closing. There is no justification for the price. The dinner was $14 + $3 tip. The food seemed to have been there for a while as it tasted stale. Oh and there was absolutely no salad! What kind of buffet does not have any salad? I would not recommend this buffet at all, to anyone. It is highly overpriced. I wouldn't mind the price IF the food was worth it. It was not at all.

Went in here with some pretty low expectations on a Monday night. I'm glad I kept my expectations that low because well, I hate to be disappointed, especially when it comes to nourishment. I've seen this place several times and always said to myself "why the hell does someone want to name this place Peter Pan"? I still don't know and that's ok, I think. It's $12 for a Monday night dinner buffet. I was next door at performance bike getting some stuff and saw three bus loads of Asians getting off. Being Asian myself, I've been brought up to follow the crowd, they usually know something. Well, that crowd was out of town... Irony. So the good. There's a decent selection of food here. Small necked clams, mussels, fried shrimp, chicken, some seafood, noodles, and your general Chinese buffet offering. Lets be real, no one goes to a Chinese buffet for a healthy meal, and this isn't it. Food was hot and clean, wait staff was attentive and food was pretty decent. There was a small Mongolian BBQ ish offering, but I didn't try it. There's also sushi with a guy rolling, but I'm pretty sure I don't want food poisoning from that, so I stayed away. The bad, lighting and decor is run down, very hole in the wall-esqueeee. At the end of the day, I filled my tummy and it was decent enough to justify the price. It's not as nice as Todai, but it works for the most part. I'll try this place again when I'm in the area and willing to settle for average above par Chinese food.

I would put negative stars if I could. I booked a tour through take tours booking agent for me and 3 family members and ended up with be taken by Happy Vacation tour line. So we end up at this buffet tonight and are told $16 a person including drink and tip (keep in mind its a buffet! - no one serves you). I am in line and I notice that its $12.85 on the sign in front of me. The two girls ahead noticed the same thing and wanted to pay the normal price and not the inflated price. The manager defended his sudden inflated price until I jumped in and had to threaten to call the authorities. These Chinese restaurant managers and operators along with the chinese tour operators are trying to scam their own people and innocent tour attendees which is despicable. They should be ashamed of themselves. Even worse was the food. A complete filthy mess. -- fruit in huge chunks and no flavor and barely edible -- sushi was dry old and tasted terrible -- ice cream spewed liquid chocolate and terrible vanilla ice cream. Just plain dirty. -- I could not bring myself to eat any meat or seafood but others at my table felt sick to eat anymore than the lite they had. Just go somewhere else and eat less and higher quality.
(1)P M.
Pick up take out for quick junky food. No frills or trills to be had here, but that's to be expected for a buffet of this sort. The food is on par with most chinese buffets in the area - not fresh at all. Selection is so so.
(3)Shane K.
After the first time I went here I would have given it a 2. But after going a couple more times this place seems to get better and all is more clear. First off, this is a buffet! People who critique the food down to every last morsel are ignoring the fact that this is a buffet and the food isn't (and shouldn't be) the best you ever had. Also, there is what I like to call an "American" side (pizza, sesame chicken, chicken and broccoli, beef and broccoli, etc.) and a "Traditional" side (chicken feet, whole fish, assorted sea creatures, etc.) Both sides offer decent food but an extremely wide variety of options and choices. Finally, they have sushi! Included in the buffet (You should tip them of course)! Even if the sushi is at par or above, the buffet would be worth it if you eat two rolls. The ability to have that as an option really brings the value of this place up for me. Overall it is a nice atmosphere with consistent, friendly service and a wide variety of pretty good food.
(4)Anthony C.
This facility was a major disappointment. 80% of the food looking d the same, dull and discolored. Maybe I didn't know what i was getting myself into. Besides octopus, squid, and chicken feet (yucky) what else was there to eat. Bot the traditional oriental buffet I'm used to.
(1)Kaiyi H.
I'm fairly certain the current 2.5 star rating is the doing of anglo saxons who have no love for chicken feet, (cooked with some black bean sauce) frog legs, (fried with jalapenos) and a number of other asian specialties that my qwerty keyboard and limited vocab prevents me from naming. I don't know any other place in the area that serves such delicacies. If you ARE white, all is not lost. This place offers endless steamed crabs and oysters,( during certain seasons ) in addition to decent Chinese takeout foods. Just please, for the love of Apollo and Athena, stay away from the "pizza". You're welcome no problem. So why the missing star? Well this place has what I've dubbed through the years as "Peter Pan Napalm". DO NOT COME HERE WEARING ANYTHING MORE ABSORPTIVE THAN A RAINCOAT. Cotton undies? Leavem at home. The fog of greasy delicacies will embed in your clothes forever and ever and ever. You're welcome no problem. PS: ROI is decent. I want to believe that my 2+ hours of gluttony gets me my money back, but damn, you have no idea how cheaply the asians who run this place gets their stuff.
(4)CYNTHIA C.
Two for lunch w/soda = $21.10, tax included. There was a large selection of seafood, stir-fried dishes, appetizers, fruits and even a soft serve ice cream machine (though I would stay away from it - it tasted very chemically) . The sushi was decent, prepared fresh by the sushi chef at the station. I didn't try the noodle soup station but I liked that it was made-to-order. At 1pm, it was pretty crowded. It's definitely a good deal and decent food. I would go back.
(3)Johnson H.
it's just another typical Chinese buffet. It has been around for many years now. So I guess that means something. I would be cautious in considering the sushi though. On this afternoon visit the fish wasn't chill, but almost room temp :P

This restaurant has changed tremendously over the years. When I came here a few years ago, the food used to be so much better. I've noticed that Peter Pan uses a lot more oil and MSG in their food nowadays. It's sad, really, because the food was already good before. The restaurant itself looks really out-dated. The wall partitions looked run-down and I saw that some of the paint had already fallen off. I wish they'd update their TVs--they still use the big old analog ones. It's 2013 for goodness's sake! If they are trying to get that old, worn restaurant look, then they have got it to a T! The food was...okay. It's not anything I haven't tasted before. I really liked the crabs, but that was basically all I liked. The noodles tasted stale and the fried rice was overcooked. The employees were okay...though I felt that they could have been more friendly. I don't know why, but I felt rushed as I ate the food. The waiters kept getting rid of the food I was eating. Like, hello? I'm eating here! Why are you taking my food away? They must have thought I was finished with it or something...That rushed feeling has not changed in the years that I have come to this place. Also, the cleanliness of the bathroom was slipshod to say the best....dirty to say the worst. I went in and there were poop stains on the bottom of the seat. Disgusting! There was also no soap on one occasion. During busy times, I found myself wiping my wet hands on my shirt because there were no paper towels available. Other times, the bathroom was okay...at least there was soap and paper towel. You pay $12 (If i remember correctly) to get into the restaurant. That's a fair price and competitive with similar buffets in the area, although for this quality of food and service, I would have preferred the price be reduce to $10. Overall, an OK buffet joint, on par with many other Chinese buffets in the area. I would recommend this for occasional family dinners. I would definitely not take my co-workers there any time soon!
(3)Gene K.
Disgusting. Filthy. Gross. And absolutely repulsive. Not a single item on the buffet was delicious, and all the seafood there is definitely not fresh. Also... you're supposed to clean out the fish eggs in fish.... so why are there chunks of fish eggs just chilling inside the fish? Too lazy to give an extra buck as an incentive to the illegal and overworked Hispanics workers you got in the back to even care about that? Meats had no flavor, and the sushi was just as bad. All the fish taste super oily, and you know for sure there is absolutely nothing fresh about them. For 14 dollars plus tax/tip, do yourself a favor and make your own meal. We went with me, my father, and two co-workers at a clinic. My father got food poisoning after we left. Surprise. Surprise. I can't believe people actually give this cramped, and over stuffed place more than one star. The cashier at the front was also rude to us, saying if we wanted to do senior for my father, he had to be 65! Are you serious? I work in restaurants, and have done so for the past 7 years. A senior is considered 55+. The Chinese buffet is just too cheap, surprisingly considering the lack of freshness in all of their food. Even the soda and the ice cream machine tasted funky. The soda had really weak syrup flavoring, which clearly means they haven't washed or even tried to replace the filters in the machine that creates the soda at all. The frozen fake me out yogurt ice cream that all buffets have, at least try to give it some fluidity. This was absolutely soft and running, and melted in a few seconds. The service, food, and especially the gross and cramped establishment deserves a 1. Shut this place down before someone actually dies from food sickness/poisoning. If you want an actual buffet, and don't mind trying Indian food. Try Jaipur literally across the street next to Circle towers. Somehow despite being next to the cockroach and bed bug infested Circle towers, the buffet at Jaipur is very clean, and food there actually looks like it was cooked. Lunch buffets only unfortunately, but well worth the visit!
(1)John D.
Disgusting, repulsive, and utterly filthy. There wasn't a single good item on the buffet. The seafood is all from mystery land and of the lowest quality. All of the meats were dry and flavorless, and the noodles/rice were absurdly oily. Honestly, for $14/each plus tax and tip, you'd be better off going to a non-buffet and getting quality food and sharing You couldn't pay me to eat there again. There are very high odds that I'll be getting sick later. The only people giving greater than one star to this place simply don't know any better.
(1)Vivian C.
This place is not the best buffet ever, but it's nevertheless OKAY. I came here today, July the 4 and the food was pretty good. I was charged $13.00 for dininer before I was seated and for that price, the buffet had variety and even decent desserts! The dishes included: Fried and fresh shrimp, Mussels (nice and big and delicious), Baby Clams, Whole Crab (with lots of meat and eggs inside), steamed flounder (soft, white, and light), salmon, fried octopus legs/squid (one of my personal favorites, trust me it tastes better than a regular fried seafood dish) and fried crab. There were also the typical Chinese foods like ma po / szechuan tofu, lo mein, general tso chicken, beef and brocoli, noodle rice, egg rolls, dumplings, and other foods like stuffed Tofu, shrimp stuffed crab, sushi, sui mai, kung pao chicken, etc. There was also a variety of desserts. My personal favorites were the cheesy sponge cake (I think they buy it, but it's DELICIOUS. It's like a tradish Chinese sponge cake), ice cream: it is a bit icy, but its still got the chocolate and vanilla flavor), and some sort of version of apple pie. There is also an assortment of canned and fresh fruits. Canned fruits including apricots, pineapples, peaches and fresh fruits including cantaloupe and watermelon. I really like this once little sweet snack that is made with peanuts and a sugar; it's like a peanut candy. There's also a station that offers noodle soup that comes free with the buffet, but I didn't want to waste my stomach on that. I did try the peking duck, which was not very good. There was a lot of duck fat in the wrap, and the duck was not tasty and crispy enough. It's not that I'm saying EVERY dish Peter Pan has to offer is AWESOME, but the food is acceptable and good for the price you're paying. I would come again since I know what foods I do/don't like so I can save more room for dessert =)
(3)Jaena C.
I think I'm being nice giving them two stars. The overall experience was ehh. The only reason I came here was because I'm visiting and was a on a tour with a Chinese agency. I was confused as to why the meal had cost $16 rather than what the sign said as $12, but upfront you're asked to pay a $3-$4 tip. Upfront! That's just crazy asking a customer who has yet to eat at the restaurant to give a tip. Tips are meant as a form of gratitude for excellent service and at least decent quality food. Anyways, the food overall was just greasy. It felt like they had either cooked the food a few days ago and we're still serving it or they just bought it frozen and heated up. The decor in the place is outdated especially with those red lights on the ceiling. The sanitation of the place is highly questionable. The only word I can describe it as is sticky. The bathrooms were sticky. The tables were sticky. Heck I felt sticky being in there. No bueno. The only reason why I gave the place another star is because I was able to make a rootbeer float on my own. Other than that, just go to the chick-fil-a across the street or even the Kaizen place. A $16 meal that has low quality food, poor sanitation, and inadequate service that asks for tip upfront, not worth it. Don't do it.
(2)Julian V.
GROSS GROSS GROSS. I get the appeal of eating in a s**thole as long as the food is good, but ladies and gentlemen, the food at this place is the pinnacle of disgusting non-appealing, nasty food. Avoid at all costs. It had such potential! Typically, I've never seen a chinese buffet that actually has authentic stuff like ginger & scallion steamed fish, baby octopus, chicken feet, or even hong kong noodle soup. I figured maybe this was a buffet for local chinese folk, which there were a lot of. But even still! Everything tasted dissssssssssssgusting! I was hoping there'd be one saving grace. The only thing that even comes near is the "hong kong noodle soup" which has a somewhat decent broth (probably because they mix hong kong broth with pho broth), but the noodles are terrible, and the dumplings too doughy and bland. The "unique" dishes like the aforementioned chicken feet and baby octopus were deplorable. The chicken feet looked good, but there was no flavor, and no meat. You really had to work for it. The fried fish and fried squid looked good too, but the flavor was just super boring, and when fried food sits for awhile, it starts to sog up. The sushi did not taste fresh, and was a bit rice-heavy. I eventually stuck to the americanized-chinese food that is typically failsafe like lo-mein and general tso's chicken, but even that missed the mark. Flavor just wasn't there. The grease was definitely present though, and I'm pretty sure the MSG was as well. I've eaten at chinese buffets in rural Mississippi that are cleaner than this place. Peter Pan, you ought to be ashamed. You know the sad thing? This place used to be decent maybe a decade ago. It's really all just gone down.
(1)Robinson L.
It is okay if you want Americanized Chinese food and the sushi bar is okay.
(2)Sebastian R.
I love this spot. Great tasty veggies, good selection of items and very clean. Stick with veggies for the best results. Price is less than $15 per meal. Not the ideal place for fine dinning seafood but fantastic for a quick bite. Chicken/steak with veggies also Delicious. Meat by itself, not as tasty
(4)Henry P.
This was my second time going to this place. I saw a real, live cockroach int he Sushi. Never again!!
