Heard about this place from a coworker and then saw it on Yelp. Would never have tried or found this place on my own. Love greek food and diners are awesome. Had to have the gyro sandwich, it was huge! Lots of yummy lamb/beef and taziki sauce. Fries were extra. Good food, big portions, authentic atmosphere. Definitely will go back. The breakfast (only served on weekends) looks amazing.

Some people say that brunch is a young people's game. That is not the case at Pan Am Family Restaurant and Pizza -- Saturday morning is hopping with aspiring Golden Girls (and the occasional Stan's) of Northern Virginia looking to get their breakfast game on. At heart, this is a family owned Greek restaurant that is so small and charming, I half expected to see Nia Vardalos and Joey Fatone come bumbling out of the kitchen at any moment. But alas, brunch was the name of the game and I was there for my canned meat fix. For less than $10 I was able to get pretty much two cans worth of corned beef, home fries, two eggs, and two slices of heavily buttered toast. I'm a girl who can down her corned beef but even I had to take home some leftovers. While most diner food I have had in the past usually leaves my sodium level on high, I was actually surprised to see that the seasoning on my dish was rather lacking. Also while I prefer my potatoes and hash to be on the crispier side, they were also both on the mushier side. Next time I'll ask them to leave it on the skillet some more. Other breakfast specials included the requisite waffles, pancakes and omelets while my friend raved about her biscuits and gravy. Service was a bit slow and gruff but it was not terrible. I'd definitely give it another try for their lunch and dinner options which looked amazing! Bottom line = = for brunch on the cheap and with no wait, Pan Am has got your back.

Loved this place... right near the Vienna metro station. Worked out perfectly since we were starving after a day trip with the kids. Very close to the Safeway. Looks like a little old school diner when you go in and seat yourself. We were immediately welcomed by two men telling us to pick a seat where we wanted. Kids got a pizza and loved it, wife got the baked ziti and loved it, I got the gyro platter and loved it. Everything was exactly how I wanted it. Salad and dressing was great, gyro meat was great, fries were cooked well. Zero issues with any of our food. For dessert we had a lemon meringue pie, and some baklava. Both were awesome. Lemon pie was unique in that it had a layer of like a pound cake between the lemon and the meringue. Daughter loved it. Baklava was a nice thick piece, not overly sweet and the hit of cinnamon/nutmeg was perfect. Everything else in the dessert case looked awesome too. I'm not sure if all those desserts are made in-house or not, but if so that would be doubly impressive. Okay, so here goes: The Great: - The service! Friendly people, very nice but not hovering at all. Made some jokes and small talk, but nothing that was ever invasive. Quick on refills and everything else. Feels like good family oriented service, just as any Greek place should be! - The food! Exactly what we expected and needed. - Desserts were better than I had expected with the two we tried. The Good: - Had a salad bar as well which is nice to be able to pick out what you want instead of just getting a house salad. Gyro platter came with a pre-made salad/condiment plate, but you get to make your own with the ziti. - Close to the metro! Great place to grab some food after a long day down town. The maybe not good? - Inside is a little dated. Might be a turn off for some, just made me think it was more nostalgic. - Portions were huge. This isn't a bad thing for me, but if you want to make it to dessert then you'll need a to-go box. I got two very filling meals out of the one gyro platter, and my wife got 3 meals out of the baked ziti. That's about it... I'd recommend this place to anyone in the area. I'd love to try their brunch as well, looks spectacular. Normally this would all give it 4 stars in my book, but the 5th star was for the friendly service and the perfect balance of fun, joking and personable without hovering over you or staying too long at the table. Great work, keep it up!

We've been here 3 times and really enjoyed it. Think "good ole 'Merican staples" like omelettes, burgers, and iceberg lettuce salads, crossed with the little ole Greek granny who lives downstairs cooking a big Sunday dinner for her extended family. It's nothing fancy but your mouth will be happy with whatever you order. Great value and the portions are HUGE. We should ask for a to go box before we order, cause we leave stuffed and enough leftovers for another meal. The staff is really nice. It's always busy but not so much that the wait staff is overwhelmed enough to forget about you. We'll be back.

Yet another place I wouldn't have tried... Thank you Yelp! I may have discovered a new "favorite" diner. I stopped by for the first time today, Saturday, for breakfast. I had corned beef hash (crispy), eggs (over easy), sliced tomatoes instead of hashed browns, and rye (because it's the best) toast. It was delicious. I will be back. This place has the deliciousness of Bob and Edith combined with the size of City Diner. Except the parking is better than City Diner. The food may well be better too, City Diner has been slipping lately.

I was very excited to try this place but I was disappointed. I just have ordered the wrong thing. The restaurant is a standard,, beautiful mom and pop restaurant. The waiters weren't mean but they weren't polite, kinda like the take no s**t type crew of workers and everyone seem to be having a bad day but not disrespectful. Just direct and kinda rude but not on purpose. Just seem to not care about hospitality. It kinda turned me off to the place The food I got was plated beautiful but the only thing I liked about my chicken soul (as I call it) but the only thing I liked about it was the homemade pita and the tzaki sauce which was kinda weird. It formed like a hot fudge sundae on the mound of lettuce I received and was open faced, not closed. I was very disappointed in the chicken. I would come back just to try the pizza and that would be my last chance for this place. On a positive note, the French fries were amaaaaazing!

I am so mad at myself for not stopping into this place sooner. I have lived within walking distance to this little gem of a restaurant for years but it always looked so unassuming that I never bothered to stop in. Worst mistake ever because I missed out on so many delicious meals. It is good home-style/diner food, very mom and pop. In fact, I feel like we were the only "non regulars" in the restaurant, but we are going to change that! The food portions are huge. One meal always equals two meals for me. And the prices are crazy reasonable. My favorite meals are: Breakfast - Eggs Benedict Dinner - Eggplant Parmesan

This place is wonderful!! We lived a few blocks away when I was a kid and we used to come 2-3 times a week. The food was always amazing, especially the pizza, moussaka, and grape leaves (dolmades). I have been back a handful of times since I moved away. Every time, the food is still amazing and just as I remember it!! The same family is still running the place and Maria is amazing! They have wonderful Greek food, amazing pizza and the best atmosphere you can find!

My friends and I came here for lunch. It is located in the plaza off of Nutley with MicroCenter and Michael's. George, our waiter, was so incredibly awesome, and the rest of the waitstaff were incredibly friendly. I had their gyros platter which came with thick slices of gyro meat (a little less flavorful), with a side of salad and great pita bread that was nice and soft. George was kind enough to get me extra tzaziki sauce which was very thick and creamy and had crunchy cucumbers throughout. We also ordered a sausage pizza, which I found it to be a little soggy from the tomato sauce. The restaurant is very family-friendly and very cute. +ask for George :D +generous tzaztiki sauce

Came for breakfast this morning. I've passed this restaurant multiple times but this is the first time eating here and I was pleasantly surprised. They give a huge portions for the price that you pay. I mean breakfast was pretty good sure I just ordered corned beef hash with 2 eggs which came with toast and home fries. I think people misconstrue home fries to be seasoned potatoes with onions and seasoning. So those were kind of bleh...under seasoned. Mother order the pancake combo and those things were huge 3 dinner plate sized pancakes. Overall service was good portions were good and food was good. Nothing wrong with a classic breakfast only thing missing is cholula hot sauce.

The staff was professional and attentive. I would consider this a family style restaurant. It is clean though outdated in appearance.

We're regulars at this establishment. This is our go-to place for reasonably-priced comfort/diner food (with a Greek twist). The ambiance is a tad "greasy-spoon"-ish. But that's not to imply that there are issues with cleanliness; but rather that the decor and furniture are somewhat dated (and have seen better days). That aside, the food is solid with serving sizes that can require a to-go box once you're done. Come for dinner, and most of the dishes are accompanied with a trip to the salad bar. The salad bar itself is pretty simple, but it is fresh, clean and always well-stocked. There are daily dinner specials so you can either call ahead and ask, or simply walk by and take a look at the window (where the menu and special are also posted for convenience). I believe beef stroganoff is one of the specials every Friday; and it is quite good (and filling). Aside from that, you can't go wrong with their gyros, souvlaki, lasagna, cabbage rolls, moussaka, pastitsio, chicken kebabs and fried seafood platter. Their pizza is pretty decent too. Come for breakfast and you won't be disappointed either. Again, their portions are generous and the food is fresh and cooked to order. Their corned beef hash is tasty, meaty and crunchy, and their french toast is thick and rich. Their omelets and eggs are cooked to order...and if you listen closely, you might even hear them hand-beating the eggs in the kitchen. Try to save room for dessert and check out their different cakes, pies and pastries that are on display by the cashier. They change regularly and are quite good as well. They also have a small basic wine and beer selection. Service is pretty quick and efficient and the servers, especially the 2 older gentlemen, treat us like family. In a way, those 2 guys are kind of like that one uncle you have...a little crusty, a little surly; but at the same time, he knows what's best for you. Come to think of it, that kind of describes Pan Am itself; and because of that we keep coming back for more.

I wanted to come to Pan Am Family Restaurant for breakfast but I didnt get out of the house until around 2 so by that time the breakfast was over :( . I still wanted to try this place out so I just stuck to it. The place is very homie, nothing fancy and it is a self seated restaurant. I asked the waitress what she recommended and what was really good here and she wasn't too helpful. She said "everything." So looking over the menu I asked her about a few dishes and she said " you might not like it." Well thanks... so I just stuck to what I knew. I ordered the Reuben sandwich and bf ordered the chicken parm sandwich. The food didn't take too long and these were very good portions. The reuben wasn't the best and there was nothing special about the chicken parm but it was better than the reuben. I want to come back for the breakfast. Update will be up soon!

I have been a fan of this place for years. It's a cozy family run restaurant. Everything I'd delicious. Between my husband and i, we've tried everything on the menu. Fantastic Greek food. The gyros are awesome. The service is friendly and prompt. We feel like family when we go here.

Best Greek food in the NOVA area with very generous portions! The vegetarian lasagna and dolma are a must try!

First time here. Came for breakfast - my Belgium waffle was everything and more! My husband and I liked it so much that we came back for dinner (same day). Wish I would've found this place sooner! My new favorite spot!

My fiancé is from New Jersey and raves about the food, which tells you it's a legit diner. A Greek diner with a really large menu that features traditional Greek food, plus some dishes that might be new to the average Joe. They get slammed for Sunday brunch, so get in before the church crowd! Personally, some of the dishes I've ordered have been a tad greasy for me, but it's a diner, so that's to be expected. The first time we went in mid-February, our server had very little patience for us even though we said we were new to the neighborhood. Her answers to our questions were as monosyllabic as they can get, and we even got a few antsy pen-taps-on-the-checkbook. The second and third time we went, though, the servers were much friendlier. The food service can be slow, though, even when it isn't busy. Over all, it's a good spot.

Ok, I notice that there are a lot of older folk eating at this restaurant and people say it reminds them of a nursing home place but who cares about that when there is good food here. People can learn from old folks cause they too know what is good food. I'm young and those old folks were young once, too.I The waiters/waitresses are nice and you get a lot for what you pay. The gyros and souvlaki are HUGE and very tasty. This place has been here for a long time and I hope it stays here forever cause one day I am going to be one of the old people who eats here all the time!

As a lover of all things breakfast, I'm always on a quest to find the perfect meal. My search recently led me to Pan Am. It's located in a strip mall and is deceptively larger than you might think. There is a very comfy old diner feel about it, paper place mats included. I like that you seat yourself and are immediately greeted with menus. The coffee is good and you get a mini carafe for the table. I ordered the pecan waffle and my husband ordered the french toast. Both were served with a fluffy whipped butter that melted perfectly. My waffle had the perfect ratio of batter to pecan. It was light and crispy without being too dry. The french toast was made with a thick toast, good egg/bread/cinnamon ratio with just enough crisp to each side. Overall it was a good dining experience with friendly and attentive service. I'm looking forward to trying more menu options.

Two trips to the ER by two different family members on two separate occasions for SEVERE FOOD POISONING after eating the same dish ... If you think your Souvlaki tastes "funny," stop eating IMMEDIATELY ... unless you like the smell of hospitals. Their pizza and gyros are OK, but still not good enough to ever go back.

I can't believe I didn't know of this place. Especially since I have shopped in the Safeway for months. Well I am glad I found it now. I have honestly been going since finding it a few moths ago. I love the simple ambiance, very casual, great service, and you can taste the freshness and care they put into there food. I adore the soup and salad. Plus they have the best Gyro & Chicken Schwarma platter. YUM!!!!

Extra ordinary breakfast place!! I love the fact that it's really closed to where I live and amazing food! Even though they have lot of menu items with bacon/sausage, as not being a pork eater my food selection is limited. But other than that, the eggs, potatoes tasted like my mom's cooking! And I don't usually compare any restaurant's food with my mom's but these foods made me nostalgic and of course very delicious! Service is alright, the servers aren't that friendly but they're accommodating. My two thumbs up for the food and location!! Please keep it up!

After a night of drinking I was craving some greasy diner breakfast food and this place delivered. My husband and I stopped in and immediately were greeted and they had menus ready at the table. We ordered coffee and it was nice that they kept a coffee thermos at the table for refills. The service was fast and the food was good. I ordered one egg sun side up and bacon. This came with home fries and toast. I learned while ordering that I could sub the toast for a biscuit which it was well worth it! I didn't care that much for the home-fries but those normally aren't my thing to eat. My husband ordered the western omelet and said it was good. This place is also a lot bigger than what it looks like from the outside.

I have lived in NOVA for two years and my biggest complaint about living here was that I could not find a decent place to have a regular, down home breakfast besides iHop. I was not looking for a fancy brunch spot but a good, country style breakfast that warms your heart and soul. I finally found it here. While it's located in a strip mall and the decor is outdated, the food was delicious and the service was great. My fiance and I both ordered the belgian waffle breakfast combo with eggs and bacon. My fiance ordered a side of the home fries also. All of the food came piping hot. The waffle was nice and fluffy and had a nice little dollop of melting butter on top. I had my eggs scrambled and they were good also, but nothing special just standard scrambled eggs. The bacon was cooked just how I like it, flimsy not too hard or overcooked. I also tried some of my fiancé's home fries, these were very hot and yummy with ketchup. These home fries are cooked in light onion and if you are looking for heavily seasoned home fries that are beaming with southwest flavor, these are not the home fries for you. They are basic but I enjoy them since I don't particularly love heartburn after breakfast. This was a really great experience and I can't wait to go back for breakfast and dinner sometime to try the gyros. The desserts in the dessert case also looked wonderful!

This is a great family restaurant, perfect for hungry families with affordable meals. Good food, friendly service, and great prices. I've always grown up with family greek restaurants like this, and I will continue to return here for years to come. I love the Gyro platter, and their pizza is excellent, and affordable. When you're looking for a place with no wait, even on a saturday, this is the place to go!

My first experience made me feel like a regular already. Marie the waitress was busy at first but as the meal went on she put up with my humor, chimed in and everything was great. The ham was deliscious fior breakfast. There is another ham called the country ham which i did not order. The breakfast potatoess are the best in the region that I have ever found. Gyro meat as a side order during breakfast makes this culture guru even more happier. Great Place.

This is our new family Sunday lunch spot. The stuffed cabbage rolls are some of the best I've ever had and the roast beef platter is excellent as well. Great wait staff and the prices in this area can't be beat.

Chronos, I'm sorry, can you turn back time? I can't believe it has taken me this long to try the acclaimed Greek restaurant, Pan Am Family Restaurant (and Pizza!), located in the aptly named Pan Am shopping plaza off Nutley Street in Fairfax. Immediately, I was pleased with the seat-yourself, no-wait approach in a very inviting, cozy atmosphere with warm lighting and calming blues that would allow anyone to work Aphrodite's magic. We definitely noticed we were the youngest people in the place -- seems to be a hit with the seniors, many of whom were surprisingly chowing down on pizzas! The menu was an instant hit. Such a wide variety of options. It's a shame that Pan Am's website doesn't seem to work anymore because the tiny sampling of the menu available on Yelp and other sites is very incomplete. Pan Am specializes in Greek food, and they even give you a little paper place mat with a map of Greece on it. In addition to pitas, gyros, souvlaki platters and kebabs, Pan Am offers enough other options to satisfy the hunger of the armies of Ares: soups, salads (including a salad bar), pizza, seafood, steak, pasta and more! We split a spinach cheese pie, or spanakopita to most of us, which was absolutely amazeballs. Unlike most places, where it comes out in a little triangle that very possibly could've been heated up from a frozen box, you don't need the wisdom of Athena to discern that Pan Am makes these bad boys fresh. One order is huge, the pastry is fresh and warm, and the spinach and cheese inside also tastes fresh and flavorful. This is hands-down, by far the best spanakopita I have EVER had. The levels of seasonings, especially dill, are PERFECT. After the spinach cheese pie appetizer, we both had the chicken souvlaki platter. With my Herculean appetite it's VERY rare that I get a plate of food and don't know where to start eating. But this thing comes out with chicken stacked higher than Mount Olympus, atop a pita, sprinkled with fries, adjacent to a huge bed of lettuce, tomatoes, olives, cucumbers, onions, pepperoncini and feta cheese. Most places like this skimp on the salad, but there was substance here. The chicken was plump and juicy, with just that delectable little bite of chargrilled crisp and flavor to it, as though Apollo himself took it to be kissed by the sun. As far as the service goes, you won't find better than Pan Am. I considered a four-star rating for a few nitpicky things, such as how I wish more of the seafood were offered non-fried (the way Poseidon intended) or that spinach was listed as a possible pizza topping (because obviously they have it). But the staff was so friendly I just had to propel Pan Am to a five-star joint, truly worthy of living among Zeus and the gods as a titan of northern Virginia eating. Our server was always smiling, always asking what we thought of everything or if we needed anything. She was super attentive without being annoying or visiting TOO often. Drinks never even got close to being empty (which, BONUS POINTS, they have Coke products)! It did take a little longer for them to bring the check than I'd like, but they took it back so fast it didn't matter. Pan Am overall is FAST -- as though employees are issued the winged sandals of Hermes -- our appetizer took no more than five minutes, and the entrees were brought out simultaneously as the appetizer plates were being cleared. I feel ashamed that it took me so long to give Pan Am a shot. It just doesn't look like much from the outside, tucked away in a dingy strip mall reminiscent of Hades' underworld with a tiny little red-and-white sign that you're likely to miss altogether. But DO NOT pass it up, especially if you love Greek-style sandwiches and platters. I'll have to try the pizza next -- maybe those old people are on to something.

Two of my favorite foods: fries and gyros. And man oh man, they are both SO yummy here!!! Definitely my favorite gyro in the area thus far. Here's what my husband and I ordered for dinner: - Dolmades app: very tasty, not too soggy and not too sour. For $5.95, you get 7 dolmades with olives, whole banana pappers, and served with a salad of lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, and onions - Gyro Platter: $13.95. AMAZING and just as the other reviews say, ENORMOUS. I ordered my fries "well done," and they were perrrrrfect! You get a mountain of gyro meal served atop fries and a pita. Good-sized salad with feta cheese and dressing on the side. I was so completely stuffed and still had more than half of my platter to take home. - Pork Souvlaki Sandwich: $8.25 Doesn't come with fries or a salad or anything, but it is still a very large serving, with enough veggies (lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, onions) on top to be a salad on its own. Tasty, but still not as good as the gyro. For less than $30, we got a really good meal with enough leftovers for lunch tomorrow. Decor is a little outdated, and the clientele is a little older, but who cares! The food is awesome, and the service is good.

Went here for lunch with my dad today. I've only eaten at Pan Am twice before this visit. Still like the simplicity of the restaurant. I ordered their Hungarian Stuffed Cabbage and was not at all disappointed. It even came with a sizable salad as an appetizer. The cabbage dish was warm, flavorful and well-presented. My dad seemed to enjoy his hot roast beef platter too. We will definitely be back again! Side note: you pay up front, not with your server

Home plate. This is the place I hate to love. I come here at LEAST once a week. I have the menu memorized. I attribute my expanding waist line to all of that which is good here. This is like diner food with the Greek twist. Big plates, fresh food, fast service. This is a family run operation and you feel at home the minute you sit down. If you cant find something you love on this menu, you must be some sort of vegan on a bean sprout only diet. I dream at night of their big thick fluffy cinamon french toasts floating on a sea of warm maple syrup and butter (served to me by cherubs and roller skating chimps wearing bacon tuxedos....... hey, its my dream... get your own). Bottom Line: Due to the number of cops that frequent this place...if you are on the 10 most wanted list, I'd consider IHOP down the street.

Delicious!!! My husband and I had the gyro sandwich which is served open face. It was fantastic, still a large amount of food and made with real lamb meat! Looking forward to trying the baklava later since we were too full to have it there!

I was a little worried about trying this place because it looks a little old and tired from the outside. Do not let that stop you! I finally got a real greek gryo. Around here they tend to be the middle eastern versions which are good, but I've been craving a Greek style gyro. My mouth is drooling just thinking about going back. Maybe one day they will give the restaurant a facelift.

I tried this due to yelp reviews and boy was I disappointed. This place gave me the creeps. Everyone else dining there was at least 80 years old including the servers. The salad bar looked old and similar to something at a nursing home. I tried the gyro from all the rave reviews on here and because I love gyros. It was covered in goopy gross tzatziki. It was definitely not a good gyro... it made my stomach queezy so bad that I am literally disgusted by gyros for the moment and they were my favorite food for years! I don't recommend to anyone.

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE This place! My favorite gyro meat in Northern Virginia. And their tzaziki sauce is as good and authentic as it gets! My boyfriend and I usually come here and split the gyro platter. Comes with tons of gyro meat, some really good fries, a pita and a greek salad. It is HUGE! We also like to start with the spinach and cheese pie (spanikopita). One order is a big enough portion for two or maybe even three (for a light app) to start. It is soooooo goooood! We also usually take a slice of baklava to go and eat at home later. Super delicious and fresh. The people that run the restaurant are super nice and accommodating. Adds even more to a wonderful food experience. We recommend this place to all of our family and friends!!!!

The food was awesome. I had the lasagna and my wife had the Chicken Souvlaki and both were excellent. We ordered a side order of onion rings and they were great but the portions were large and the onion rings we could barely finish our food. The location and interior are unremarkable and the wait staff was not impressive but the food is worth the trip. Thanks to Yelp and those who left recommendations - we highly recommend this to others.

I live like 2 minutes from this place and I just now got to try their food. I can't believe I've been missing out all this time. This place now holds my favorite place to get Gyro! Insanely good and awesome service. I also tried their chicken platter and the chicken was perfectly cooked and well flavored. This place is a must! to for some delicious

The gyro platter is the best around. Most places I've been to skim on the meat but they don't. Comes with a pita bread, Greek salad and fries. Philly cheese steak is also a favorite. People there are always friendly.

Excellent gyros here. I've ordered gyros platters from several Greek restaurants in the area, and the portions they give pale in comparison to the amount of Gyros you receive here. I haven't tried any of the other dishes, but judging from other co-workers and friends' entrees who have gone here with me, their entrees also have gigantic portions sizes. Prices are reasonable here; sure beats what you get at other similar places for the same price.

I have been here about three times. It is certainly a family restaurant. Nice place, but wouldn't try to impress a date/client here. (family joint) The food is pretty consistent. I have had the gyro platter which is a monster, there is no way you are going to eat it all. The wife and I have found that getting one platter and a smaller dish (the steak&cheese, which is solid) Is the way to go. And we share it all. We don't order for the 2.5 year old as she just munches the fries with us. The servers are mostly like old broads so don't expect them to run around and make things snappy. But for a nice leisurely lunch with friendly folk, I am planning on going back. (prices are reasonable and parking is easy enough--it is in a strip mall)

I wanted to like this place as it is very conveniently located. Unfortunately, the past few dining experiences have been extremely disappointing. My husband and I went there for brunch and both our meals were undercooked and mushy. We tried it again for dinner and my grilled cheese tasted vaguely fishy. The mozzerella sticks were not very good either. On top of everything else, service was slow.

Can't go wrong with the Gyro platter. The good is great and is a great place to take the family.

This is my favorite place for a quick lunch during weekdays. They have a long list of sandwiches and subs that are competitively priced that makes the McDonalds across the parking lot look like a rip-off. There is also a system with experience that your order usually gets ready to go in 5-10 minutes. I highly suggest Virginian Ham and Cheese for an odorless, yet great-tasting sub to bring to your work. Even for a family dinner, this place is hard to beat. The entrees are ginormous and I have never been able to finish a platter by myself. The food is in vintage, old country style, and definitely nothing fancy to have your important dates at. However, if all you care about is having a healthy meal, this restaurant won't let you down.

This family run restaurant has quality comfort greek influenced food at very reasonable prices. Especially for the lunch specials which are all less than a ten dollars. Portions are huge served by attentive wait staff who are very helpful and kind. This place really standsout. The owners told me they don't know much about the internet of marketing on the internet. They did not mind me taking photos. I will come back to this very homey and comfortiable and try more of there lunch specials.

I've had their gyro many times, it's massive, but is in desperate need of some type of acid. They need to add vinegar to the salad dressing, because there's just way too much salt in the gyro meat. Their taziki sauce is just okay. There are much better gyros at La Casa (Alexandria) and Plaka Grill (Vienna). The bad part about this place is...it is SO ugly. It really needs to be updated!! The seat I was sitting in had a big tear in it. The bathroom looks like its from the 70s. And of course the customers. My husband and I looked around and we were the only young people there. EVERYONE was like 70+. They didn't even have people in their 40's. It really does look like they are running a nursing home. Maybe the senior citizens are attracted to it because it reminds them of their youth or something. If I'm in the area I'll just swing by Plaka Grill instead. I can't stand looking at the inside of this place anymore.

Okay breakfast - the omelet was good, but nothing to write home to momma about. The service was good, but the kitchen got a little slow once Sunday brunch picked up. The Gyro was also good. Most importantly - the prices were right. Overall, if you have older grandparents, they would love the "hometown" atmosphere. Definitely a good place to try to see "old Virginia." Would definitely be back.

I eat here occasionally for lunch with Co-workers. The bread as a starter is nice. Specials are OK occasionally, but it's middle of the road Italian-Greek diner food at best. Their pasta is horrible and the red sauce tastes like watered-down ketchup. Gyros, burgers, and the grilled chicken salad are my go to's. Business seems to have fallen off recently now that Gerry Connolly and the Fairfax County cops that used to frequent the place are gone. Last week the back room was dark. The decor is 1980's dated. The clientele is the old geriatric crowd. Service is attentive. I think Joe (or maybe it's George) runs the floor and his brother does the cooking.

So this restaurant has been around forever so there has not be a reason! It's Greek food and a little bit of everything else. I liked the salad bar and the food is pretty good. I'll definitely come back. I wish the place had a facelift though...it's very outdated and dive-y.

If you are looking for a "family" restaurant with choices for everyone in the family that won't require you to take a second job, this is it. Menu is very extensive and eclectic -- you can find liver, stuffed cabbage, burgers and fries, pizza, pasta, lasagna, as well as Greek specialties (gyros, souvlaki, stuffed grape leaves, etc.). Their fryer is alway perfect -- try their onion rings, fries, and even fried chicken. I know it's been around for more than 20 years (I have been going to it for over 20 years). Salad bar is simple yet very satisfying. Most dinner meals come with unlimited trips to the salad bar - great deal. Pizza is also very good -- don't bother getting extra cheese (already very cheesy!). Simple decor - not a romantic place but a great place for families and casual dining. All good :)

Gettin my Greek onnnnn Been coming here for Years!! Large portions from a mom and pop pizzeria joint. I love the food and you cant go wrong. A little could be said about the decor. But when the food is good who needs good decor. would revisit!!

This place has become our go-to for gyro in the metro. Spinach pie app, gyro platter, & baklava to-go dessert. We really want to try the other options but crave this magnificent combo every time we go back.

ordered the gyro platter, it was tasty and a massive helping, had to take half home the tatziki sauce was good also. this came with fries and salad I also sampled the cheese pizza which was large and tasty thumbs up to the place

Pan Am is just like the many Greek Family restaurants in Virginia. A large menu made up of tasty homemade dishes. I usually get the gyro platter which is LOADED with meat, i always end up taking lunch home for dinner. I highly recommend this place.

This is definitely a family restaurant. It kind of reminds me of a slightly more suburban version of a country family restaurant in the Midwest. I'm not even sure if that makes sense, but I just feel like this place sticks out from the typical Fairfax/DC -area restaurants. When I am craving that kind of meal that reminds me of a side-of-the road family cooking and pie joint, this is a good place to fill that urge. It reminds me of when I was little and ordered hot roast beef sandwiches with fries all covered in gravy. It's good, but just unexpected in this area. It's got those old vinyl seats and you feel like you're stepping back a few decades when you walk inside. It has that nice, local everyone knows your name kind of feel. The food is not great, but it's good and the servings are healthy. And if you like pies, check it out!

We ordered the mozzarella sticks which appeared to be home made, and they were great. I found the marinara sauce a little on the sweet side, but my wife and son did not mind it. I think I will try some ranch dressing next time. For entrees we had the pork souvlaki and gyro platters which came with a salad and fries. It was a lot of food. There was plenty of meat on the sandwich and I was happy to find the pita hot but still flexible. The meat seemed a little drier than I would like, but both the pork and gyro had great flavor. We had tried all the other restaurants in this shopping center before, but never had eaten at this one. It is just to the left of CVS in the Pan Am shopping center. We will be back, and the pizza on the next table looked pretty good, so we might be ordering pizza next time. ________________________________ Update: Went back to try the pizza, the toppings were great and so was the crust, but we might have overloaded the pizza because the center crust was soggy. We will try to limit our pizza to one or two toppings next time. They don't have ranch dressing, so I doctored up the sauce on my plate for the great mozzarella sticks with some cheese, hot pepper and salt.

I would say this Greek Family Restaurant is pretty basic, nothing much you're missing out on. Perhaps I will have to revisit to actually try some Greek food but dinner the night we went was to satisfy our pizza craving and Pan Am did indeed have pizza for us to consume. We ordered a medium pie with peppers, onions, mushrooms, and sausage....umm, not much you're missing out on. It was good, a little runny (there was pizza juice on my plate...), but nothing I would crave for in the future unless say...I was around, they were around, and I just had to have pizza at that exact moment and couldn't walk around the corner to the Domino's. We also went ahead and tried desert - a slice of apple and pumpkin pie, both of which were just okay. This really is an all around "okay" type of place...even the service! Not some place to bother going out of your way for.

I've been here twice and I really like it. While it does kinda suffer from the Greek overload in the Nutley/123 area this is one of the better locations, and a bit out of the way from the regular Vienna area. It's like a Greek diner mated with a cozy family restaurant. Not much hustle and bustle but very solid food and friendly service. Entrees are all in the $13-$17 range which may sound moderately expensive for a dinerish place, but the portions are HUGE. My souvlaki came with pita completely inundated with grilled, well seasoned chicken, fries, and a greek salad. The fries here are so good. They look like just standard fries but for whatever reason they aren't. They're crisp, unstarchy, and really creamy on the inside. I completely wasn't expecting it but Michelle and I both remarked about them. They also offer a salad bar which is a great deal. Lots of stuff to choose from and it's not very expensive to add to your meal. A great value. If you pair the salad bar with a meal, chances are you will be taking home quite a sizeable amount of leftovers. I've heard great things about the breakfasts here so I really look forward to coming some weekend morning.

Good solid family-type restaurant. Large portions, low prices, good food, good service. Not quite the kind of thing I'd rave about and give five stars, but definitely a good choice for a good quick meal.

  • Nox M.

OMG. anyone who does not give this place a 5 star rating has gone there for the wrong reasons. Let me start by saying that I am greek, let me follow that by saying that Im a cook, let me finish by saying that I would never change a thing about this place. Also: IT'S A DEAL I have been going to this place since I was a kid and not-a-once have I been disappointed or had a less-than-stellar experience here. It feels like I am in someone's home. My all-time fav is the chicken souvlaki (childhood, non home-prepared food) and they give you TONS of perfectly-cooked chicken, fresh everything, the tzatziki is delicious, crunchy onions, fresh tomatoes, fresh, delicious pita and the most divine feta cheese. Honestly, if youre down to spend 8 buck on a decent meal, do it here. And PLEASE, oh PLEASE dont miss out on their desserts! You HAVE to try their baklava. Trust me. If you dont like it, I will buy it from you. I have gone to other "Greek" places in the area and if theyre not pretentious, they're horrible. I went to "Athens" in Arlington once and was horrified by their "souvlaki" which was 4 pieces of dry chicken on top of a costco-bought pita bread and some lettuce leafs on the side; aside from the fact that it smells like dirty hookah water... BACK to Pan Am... EAT HERE. Whether it is for the fries, or for the pizza or desserts or anything, you wont regret it.

Consistently good food with something on the menu for everyone. I enjoy the comfort food like the meatloaf platter but there are sandwiches and more traditional Greek food if that's what you are looking for. I wish they were open for breakfast during the week but they must have made a business decision that it was not worth it (with MacD's across the parking lot, understandable). Go and enjoy a small business run well!

I have to wonder why people go down the road to iHop when there is a local-area that serves a much superior dining experience for the same price. Pan Am is a Greek diner that serves stellar breakfasts and excellent food throughout the evening. The eggs are properly cooked, sausages aren't dried up like most places, and beacon has some heft to it. French toast is thick and excellent. The folks that eat here can seem geriatric at times, but that's a testament to how loyal their customers are. Service is friendly and prompt. Its a place you would come back to based on the service and food. My only major complaint would be that this place could use a dusting and a bit of cleaning from time to time.

I was tired and was struggling with only a few hours of sleep from a middle of the night trip to the E.R. for a broken foot, so all i wanted for dinner was something good, quick and hearty. Enter Pan Am Family Restaurant. It was exactly what i wanted. I felt like i was eating at my own family's house... i could just choose to eat whatever i wanted. I opted to get the rigatoni with meat balls. Well this came with the salad bar. Rather than trying to navigate the salad bar on crutches, Jeff graciously offered to go for me. It was your typical salad bar and nothing to get too excited about. But my rigatoni was definitely something to get excited about. I loved it! The meat sauce was incredible. And the serving was absolutely gigantic. i could barely finish half of it. And the meatballs tasted like something my mom would make... if my mom could cook really good italian food. I would definitely come back for that deliciousness. What really wowed me was the fries that the bf had with his dinner. I dont know what they did to these things, but man were they awesome. If only they had vinegar. All in all it was a fairly cheap meal, and really good with lots of leftovers. I would definitely come back... especially to check out breakfast!

My husband actually said this restaurant was in his top 3 of all time. He obviously has really high standards. All kidding aside,. this place is great. The food is great, the service is wonderful, and they make you feel like home. I'm from NJ so I know greek diners. This place can really make some greek food. The gyro platter is HUGE and the baklava is AMAZING. All in all a great place.

Northern VA has lots of chain restaurants but few genuine places you can find simple but well-executed meals your grandma might have made. I don't come here for the ambiance, but for a satisfying meal. If I lived closer I'd be here twice a week. The Pan Am offers really good choices at fair prices, always served with a smile. The salad bar offers an excellent Caesar better than many white table cloth joints. Kebobs, gyro, so many things all excellent and generous. If you're thinking about dessert, split an entree with a friend. And yes, come for breakfast and order the French toast. You can thank me later.

I get take out from there once in awhile and have eaten there a couple of times over the past year and their chicken souvlaki platter is AMAZING! I have never had this dish as delicious as here. Wonderfully flavored and definitely enough for the price. The service is warm and friendly also. My boyfriend had the steak and cheese (trying to try other things on their menu) but it was not their specialty. I would recommend the souvlaki platter if you go. We love it!

You just want to hug this place. They have an old fashioned salad bar! The kind with pickled beets, chopped eggs, and artificial bacon bits. You can tell it is a family run business which is so refreshing in today's world of cookie cutter corporate food. I had the Pastitsio (Greek Lasagna) and my husband had the Veal Parm. We were not necessarily blown away by a food revelation, but we loved every bite because we could tell that someone cared about the preparation of this food.

Their Steak in a Sack is the bomb. Cheap cheap menu items and they're large, in charge, and delicious. Great family who runs it and they're very friendly. Same people for yeeears. Huge portions which if you've read my other reviews you KNOW I'm all about. This girl likes to eat, man. I haven't had anything else there but my dad loves the gyro and the spaghetti and meatballs. And the salad bar thing. Olivesss. I'm a fan. :) Greeks gotta represent.

3.5 I came to check out this famous french toast I'd heard about. Mine came with 2 very salty sausage links, some apple compote and a big scoop of butter on top. The french toast itself was very good--I'd skip the sausage and the butter---it didn't need either, but man, was that apple compote amazing! A double order of that with my sweet batter dipped bread would be lovely, thanks! We also ordered a pepperoni pizza--do not be fooled. They do the cheese, pepperoni and then MORE cheese bit, so they don't actually skimp on the 'roni. The dough is the fluffy kind (so not for crispy lovers) and slightly sweet, which I enjoyed. Overall, the pizza was a bit greasy for my tastes, so if they make breadsticks, I'll be ordering those to get my dough fix.

I forgot how good their breakfast is here! On Saturday before heading to the car show my girlfriend and I stopped into our favorite place. I had eggs benedict which was incredible and my girlfriend had french toast. I really like the batter they use for the french toast here, it is a bit sweeter than just plain egg batter. Service was great as usual. I absolutely love Pan Am!

We went on a Friday night during Lent. One of the specials was the mussels over linguine. It was delicious. It probably was the best meal I have had here. Normally I would give 3 stars to here, but the Mussels Marinara was the best meal by far here.

I have been going to Pan Am for several years now. There are a few things that set this place apart. First, the people who run the place are attentive and friendly. Second, the desserts are phenomenal. And third, the ambiance is very comfortable, not an easy find in the bustling Fairfax area. This is also a great place to go if you have kids. I bring my toddler with me all of the time and he enjoys it as much as we do.

I've also been going here since I was little, and although it doesn't look enticing from the outside, this is always a winner with my family. The place is always full when we go, and its a family-run restaurant. That family is there every f'ing day of the week, and their hard work definitly pays off. Surprisingly, their pizza is AWESOME and someone always orders it and we all end up eating it. So good. You have to eat it there. Thier french fries are good as well. My fam and I always come here.

Unfortunately, I will not be going back. While I have been here a few times in the past without incident and while the food has always been ok, I recently received the WORST service I have ever experienced in my life. Durng this lunch, I ordered a meal, and when it arrived, it included ground beef, which I can no eat. This inclusion was not stated on the menu. I asked the waitress and sh told me that it "always came that way". I asked that it be taken off and mentioned that the menu did not state this. After telling me I had to ask if I wanted things done differently, she did eventually take it away and have one made correcty. But, needing to beat a dead horse, she returned with he menu to point out to me how I was wrong. When I mentioned that she was reading the menu incorrectly, she snapped at me that the "always served that way" and that my request was special (although, based on the menu my request wasn't actualy special). Her persistence that I was incorrect (and somehow rude to her) made for a very unsettling environment. After paying the bill, I was able to have another staff member bring me a box and left to eat at home since it was obvious my business was not welcome. It is amazing a small business can stay in business while treating their customers this way.

This review is based solely on their pizza, which is terrible. The rest of their food is okay. Whoever makes their pizza is an idiot. All the components are good, but they can't get the ratios right. What a sloppy, disgusting mess! Never again! I was so pissed when I got home and opened the box. The 14 pounds of cheese had slid off the pizza. What a crappy mess.

Eeew! Dirty! I have been served food that had NASTY things in it, a few times! The first time, pointed it out to the staff. Second time pointed it out to the staff....they just acted like 'oh well, shit happens!'. Will NEVER eat there again!!! Disgusting!

Have been to this restaurant for no less than 10 years. with all the great reviews here, I never thought to add another 4 star rating in. So, here is my short and sweet review. Everything I have tried is great. Service has been good. Well, I always have the same server, ever since one minor incident from one waiting staff several years ago.

  • Wayne S.

Ate here for the first time today. I was there for lunch a little early and had no problem sitting. I ordered a half pepperoni and half sausage pizza. I thought this was a better than average pizza but not the best I've ever eaten. The sausage was tasty and the pepperoni was average and very greasy. They have a pretty expansive menu and I'd eat here again to try other things. Service was good. They had a decent looking salad bar but I didn't try it.

This is the place to be for FETA CHEESE. I am a big fan of cheese, I have searched for the good stuff since I left this restaurant, I didn't even like feta until I had it here! But alas, I haven't found any feta Otha Dan here. Also the serving sizes are for two or one very hungry or a parent and child. Serve is good. Gravy makes everything better. We had the stuffed cabbage which between the three of us we couldn't finish. The Ruben was yummy in a fall apart sort of way so I had to use a fork and knife. The pork chops must have been flown in from somewhere because they were huge! Also they were cooked to perfection (which is hard to do with pork). Two thumbs up.

I have been going to this restaurant for about 13 years. It has stayed consistently amazing. the pizza is great the mozzarella sticks are homemade and not poly-o string cheese deep fried. the chicken souvlaki comes on a soft homemade pita and is the best I ever had. The homemade tiramisu is good but you really come here for the Baklava which is the best I have ever had.

here's the thing. why not just serve breakfast all day? why stop at noon? is it really that much harder to keep a carton of eggs available after 12pm? clearly not since you sever omelets all the time. forgive me if i seem bitter, but once i get a taste for some breakfast, it's hard to shake. i decided on a blt. bacon seemed like the best bet to curb my breakfast jones. it was a good blt; crispy bacon and plenty of it. woulda been better with some fried eggs, but i missed that window.

Having been here twice now, I have to say I really like this place. The first time, I got biscuits and gravy, which was egh. The gravy just tasted like a thick creamy white sauce and the biscuits were really egh. But I forget that it's a Greek diner and I should probably stick to what they know - their souvlaki platter was huge and seriously delicious. While the tzatziki was ok, the chicken was perfectly marinated and grilled, the pita was grilled with butter and delicious, and the salad was the perfect side. The last time I got a pizza, and while it took a long time to make, it's good to know that it's made to order, but it held up the rest of my table getting their meals. It was sooo good, the crust was soo crunchy and delicious and the tomato sauce was not your typical canned junk. I made my own pizza with 4 toppings - amazing, but pricey, about $12.99 for 4 toppings on a small pizza that one could finish. Been there twice on a Sunday morning right before noon and am astounded that this place is not packed. It gets packed as we are leaving, but I think the shopping mall and front to this restaurant are so unassuming that people overlook it. I'm happy to return here any time, it's good old diner food.

We walked here from the Vienna metro without a problem. After seeing that the menu had both Greek and American food, we were hesitant about which type of food Pan Am Family Restaurant specialized in. During our meal we were blown away by both the food and the friendly and courteous staff. The Greek food was delicious, and the Baklava pieces were larger than any we had seen before... even in Greece. The food was very fresh, the prices were competitive, and the staff was wonderful. What a great find!

As others have written this is a family restaurant. It has taken us a bit of time to learn their names without being intrusive: Manoli, Sam, Maria, Malina, Katina, and Nick the cook. They are almost all family members and of course Greek. Dinner includes a salad bar or soup. The soups need lots of work, but the dinners are good, no matter what you order, and the salad bar is comfortable. You will find some things there on the salad bar which you will want as second helpings. And sometimes you will just want the salad bar itself. The desserts are incredible. The diners are all regulars. Highly recommended.

I like another family style Greek place, I know, but this place is really good. Obviously I like the gyro platter, but everything on the menu is great. The location is pretty convenient and the service is way above par. The best thing about this place is the homemade NY style pizza. One of the best places for pizza in the DC area in my opinion. Check it out!

me and my wife stopped by this place today. I ordered chicken souvlaki sandwich and she had Egg Benedict. Both were very good. Especially, the grilled chicken in the sandwich was very juicy and tender. The price is very reasonable (actually cheap compared to other places in this area), a-lot-a-lot of food, and friendly people. We will try to another menu next time.

I've been coming here since I was about 7 years old so I've been here a lot, this was the go to restaurant for my family. They have GREAT gyros, and great souvlaki. Salad bar is always nice, and their food is always reliable. I've had better of everything at other places but if you want as laid back dining that will never disappoint (even though it will never really wow you...except for the gyro) this is your place. They also have some of the nicest waitstaff around, most of the people working there have been there for-ev-er. And the prices are still amazingly cheap.

My wife and I have been frequenting this restaurant since 1974 and it was there before we found it. This place is what I would call a Greek diner. You can get anything and everything and it's all good and plentiful. I would especially recommend the gyro, souvlaki, and chicken souvlaki platters. The fried onion rings are great and the baklava is authentically delicious. We make the trip from Gainesville at least twice per month.

I just can't say enough good things about the Pan Am Restaurant (in Pan Am shopping center, corner 29/Lee Hwy. and Nutley St.). My wife and I often stop by there for a late brunch after church on Sundays, prior to our weekly grocery shopping at Safeway next door. I'm just an old country boy from Arkansas's Ozark Mountains, so I usually go for Pan Am's yummy -- and generous -- corned beef hash, homefries, and biscuits and gravy (or sometimes Eggs Benedict). On weekends they serve breakfast until 2:00 p.m. -- although you can also order from the rest of the menu. My wife usually has their Chicken Souvlaki sandwich or Chicken Souvlaki platter, which are excellent and also quite plentiful (we often take leftovers home). The Pan Am's Moussaka and pizza are also quite good, and their Baklava is quite simply the juciest and tastiest I've ever had -- and the portions are large. In terms of atmosphere, it's just a nondescript little strip-mall family restaurant, but the Greek theme to the decor is cute, and the staff is very friendly and attentive. Whenever you're in the Fairfax/south Vienna/Merrifield/Dunn Loring area and looking for a nice breakfast spot or lunch venue, you should definitely give the Pan Am a try.

Wow, what a nice surprise for this lovely family restaurant. Nothing fancy but just good ole Greek food. The Gyro and chicken souvlaki platters were absolutely delicious. The tiramisu and baklavas were calling my name loud and clear but I had to turn away since I'm on a diet. But I havent stopped thinkinf of them since and plan to return one day to try them. Definitely a great place for good Greek food.

Service OK to start but was slow in the end. Wife's Hungarian cabbage rolls were bland at best. Large portions but not impressed.

We went here for breakfast this morning. It's a simple family restaurant. The french toast was great but the biscuits and gravy left a lot to be desired. We will definitely go here again but maybe substitute an omlette for the biscuits and gravy. I didn't have the waffles but a lady next to us did, and it looked awesome. The restaurant has a very unassuming store front and we probably would never have tried it if not for yelp. We'll probably go back for a mid-week gyro too.

Been coming to this place for years. The service is always good. I like their salad bar. The food is mostly decent. The spaghetti was not very good but I did like the lasagna. Also, the chicken parm was pretty good. But this is a Greek place, not an italian restaurant so I can't fault them too much. Maybe a tad pricy but they sure don't jip you on the portions. The best thing to get here is the chicken souvlaki. A mound of marinated chicken, greens, and their awesome cucumber sauce over a pita and then fries under that.
