Great place to brunch! Great service and bread rolls to die for. The food is delicious and the atmosphere is very cozy.

The worst burger I've ever had The worst steak I've ever had The worst pasta I've ever had The worst salad I've ever had I'm surprised that great American hasn't shut this place down. Food is overpriced, service is average and to top it off, the food is awful.

The food here is top notch. This restaurant is a part of the Great American Restaurants chain. (I've previously visited Coastal Flats, Jackson's, Mike's American, Sweetwater Tavern, Carlyle, and Silverado). Pretty much every time I've dined at one of their restaurants it's been most excellent. Can never get enough of the Ozzie rolls with butter, yum! I've had lunch and dinner here and look forward to one early afternoon trying out their brunch menu offerings.

My first time here was for Sunday brunch. Nice atmosphere, very similar to other great American restaurants. We had a group of 8 people so we had to split up to two booths. The brioche French toast was good but it was really rich and quite soggy. I liked the chicken & waffles (not sure if that's the name on the menu). The chicken was very crispy and the meat inside wasn't dry. Overall, it was a good experience, I will definitely return another time but probably not in a big group.

You can never go wrong at a Great American restaurant, and Artie's is no different. The food is always consistently excellent, and the service is always top notch. Some of my favorites include the corn fritters, the ribs, the pecan-crusted trout, and the white chocolate bread pudding. Really, my only complaint is that the menus are so similar (if not identical) restaurant-to-restaurant, and there are not enough specials to vary the offerings. However, I keep coming back because the food is always great!

I went here with family for brunch on Father's Day. It was very crowded even though we came early, but that was expected for a Great American Restaurant. Service was good and attentive though. I tried the French toast platter for the first time, just wished they didn't soak the toast with syrup because it was kind of soggy... Everything else was good though.

EXCELLENT! My fiance and I are now huge fans of Artie's! This is the 6th restaurant in the Great American Restaurants chain that I've visited (I've previously visited Coastal Flats, Jackson's, Mike's American, Carlyle, and Silverado). The food was excellent - I ordered the Short Smoked Grilled Salmon Salad and it was a perfectly large and delicious portion. I could tell it was premium salmon and of excellent quality. The salmon portion was so large and they just gave me a large salmon fillet on top of my tasty salad. The salad came with jumbo asparagus, new potatoes and field greens in balsamic vinaigrette. I absolutely loved it. And the salmon was perfectly smoked and tender. My fiance ordered the Bacon Cheeseburger (applewood smoked bacon, American cheese, wicked sauce & fries) and really loved it. We also absolutely loved their complimentary bread offerings, which included carrot cake and delicious sugary donut holes! YUM! We could tell they were not trying to rip us off. The service was excellent as well - our waiter was very polite and efficient and gave us great recommendations. And the atmosphere is classy. Each of the Great American Restaurants seems to have a theme of its own, and this one had an Eastern seaboard theme. The decor was very adorable and made it feel like we were dining in Cape Cod. Everything about this place was classy, from the food to the service and the atmosphere. It's probably my second favorite in the Great American Restaurants chain, right after Coastal Flats! We would certainly love to visit again! And now I just have two Great American Restaurants left to visit - Ozzie's and Sweetwater Tavern!

I'm a fan of Artie's! I stopped here for dinner with my boyfriend and both of our dishes were yummy. I had the penne primavera while he had the salmon, and both were cooked well with great flavors. The portion sizes were perfect as well, not too big or not too small, though I would have loved to have had some pasta left over because it was that good! Definitely ask for a basket of bread too, because there were these fluffy sweet rolls in the bread basket that I would have happily eaten 100 of!

3.5 Stars. Another one of the Great American Restaurants, so as per usual the menu items are very similar to Sweetwater, Ozzies, Carlyle, Coastal Flats, etc. This place is very spacious and has plenty of booths which I like and the hostesses were very friendly and accommodating. One of my favorite things about the GARs are the Ozzie Rolls! mmMm I had to restrain from eating more than one though so I'd have room for apps. For starters we got their infamous Crab Fritters which is a great combination of crunchy fritters on the outside with soft crabmeat on the inside. As for entrees-- Penne Primavera was a solid classic pasta dish and I have nothing to complain about. The Pecan Crusted Trout was good but nothing amazing. From its name I expected flavor and texture firework explosions in my mouth but it was more like firecrackers. Service was alright-- we went around 5pm on Sunday and restaurant was pretty empty. The servers were all standing around with nothing to do because I guess it wasn't time for the dinner rush yet. Our server, who was really cute, was either incredibly shy or maybe I smelled bad or something, because he always rushed away in a blink of an eye. Artie's would be a great place for families or seniors, but I prefer Coastal Flats or Ozzie's.

Came here for brunch and had a great time. G made reservations for 11 am, which was perfect. The hostess was very friendly and seated us quickly. Our server was personable, knowledgeable, and attentive. Their complimentary bread basket is filled with goodies. We started out with the blue crab fritters, which was absolutely delicious. Light crispy exterior with a plump and juicy blue crab interior (shaped like a meatball). Excellent! The sauce around it and grilled corn on the side was well made. The Chicken and Waffles were perfect. The chicken had a crispy light coating. The meat was juicy and well seasoned, had a slight kick to it. The maple-bacon-bourbon syrup on the side is on point. Drizzle that all over the chicken and waffles and it's love at first bite. Ended our meal with one of my favorite desserts at any Great American Restaurant, the Chocolate Waffle. Warm smooth chocolate in between a slightly crisp chocolate waffle with vanilla ice cream on the side. Add a dollop of homemade whipped cream and you've got yourself a home run. Can't wait to come back for brunch.

This was our first time dining at Artie's, and it certainly won't be the last. We are definitely fans of the food, ambience and service. I know it's a chain restaurant, but that was some of the best crab cake I have ever had. My wife enjoyed her steak salad and couldn't stop mentioning how sophisticated the flavor of the dressing was. The biggest star of the meal, though, was the Ozzie roll. Who was the culinary genius who thought up this wonderful titillation for our tastebuds? Big kudos go out to our server, Rebecca, whose service was polite, friendly and professional. This young lady can give seminars on customer service! All and all, a wonderful brunch experience.

Artie's is superb. Never had a bad meal here and have eaten here more than a dozen times. Lunch/dinner, doesn't matter, great food all around and those Ozzie rolls, to die for! Typically there is a wait for a table, unless you either made a reservation or came really late in the evening or for a very early lunch. I have yet to try their brunch, but I've heard its very good. Must make it a point to try Artie's at some point. It is part of a group of restaurants called Great American Restaurants. There are locations all over Northern Virginia and all of the restaurants I've tried of that group, are superb like Artie's!

Service is great but I wish the menu had a couple more options. Maybe I should just go to Cheesecake Factory, where the menu is the size of a phonebook. We each felt like being economical, so we were prudent in the dishes we ordered. Three of us got pasta dishes and one got a chicken sandwich. Everything was just about average. Not bad but not great. If you're coming here for dinner, I recommend going big or just going home. Or Cheesecake Factory.

We had brunch here the Saturday before Mother's day Sunday. I read about the call ahead reservations so I did this and it worked out great! By the time we got there they had a table available. The server was friendly and although a bit forgetful with a few requests he did get our food order correct and generally was eager to please. We would have loved to have more options on the menu, but we enjoyed what items we did choose. I really enjoyed my french toast eggs and bacon. If you live not too far from the restaurant or are in the area I'd say go ahead and give it a try, but I personally wouldn't make a special trip from DC again.

I wasn't planning on being here but I was waiting for my car to finish being inspected and I decided to stop in for some lunch while I waited. I'm glad I did. Sitting at the bar, I ordered the new bourbon smash cocktail which was quite tasty and refreshing. My meal was the chop salad followed by the bacon cheeseburger. Salad is one of my favorites. The bacon cheeseburger was awesome; had this tasty sauce called wicked sauce. It was wicked good! Finished my meal off with a peanut butter sundae; another new item on their menu and it rocked! Lynn was my bartender and she was very sweet and attentive. I'm glad I came back. I need to visit here more often. Well done Arties, well done!

3 to 3.5 stars. I considered Arties to be one of my favorite standard American fare restaurants in the area, but recent visits have provided me evidence of a decline in quality and the place seems to be on autopilot as far as the menu and preparation is concerned. The menus at the All American restaurants seems to be a bit tired and uninspired. Lots of dishes with chicken breasts (which I detest), a fair amount of fish (the standard salmon, trout). I wanted some more selection in the area of beef, but there were only a couple of items. Service was okay, but not great. The AC was cranked really high so it felt pretty cold coming in from the heat. The food is still good as it goes, but I think I'm going to take a break from here for a while and check back in a few months.

Had the Thai salad with seared tuna on top. Really good! Had a tad too much ginger and my mouth tingled after eating it but it was still very delicious. Servcice was excellent. Hostess seated us right away. Waitress was bubbly and efficient. In general, this is a great place for salads.

Once again the Great American Restaurant impresses! On this evening, a late Wed Metro arrival by James and intense I-66 W traffic created the need for a relaxing dinner until traffic thinned. The solution? Artie's a 5 minute drive from Vienna Metro. Our server, Scott is a 9 year veteran of Artie's. He rattled of the specials like he wrote them. He knows the menu and his craft like a true pro. James had the 8 oz filet, I had the grilled Mahi special prepared tex-mex style. It was all exceptionally excellent and superior in every sense of the words. We had the smoked trout appetizers which were incredible with hints of cilantro & lime with a nice smokey/fishy asian blend of flavors. The food came out quickly and served professionally by a cadre of smiling staff who all seemed like they took their daily happy pills. James opted for the Creme Brulle for dessert and I had the mixed fruit. All this accompanied by a cup of delicious fresh brewed coffee. A wonderful and relaxing meal shared con mi hijo. I can't say enough good things about GAR, I've tried nearly all of them and have never been disappointed.

My sisters and I stopped by for a quick dinner before a Sam Smith concert at the Patriot Center, and Artie's got the job done. True to GAR form, calling ahead was easy. We went early before the dinner rush so it was pretty empty, and sat in a comfy booth albeit next to the server POS (a personal pet peeve with so many empty tables but not a big deal). We had the spinach artichoke dip which was nice and hot, and then I had a burger and my sisters had the chicken & havarti sandwich and (don't hate her) the chicken tenders. Both of them said their food was fine, as was my burger. I was pretty surprised it didn't come with tomato or lettuce, but the mustard sauce was a nice change from what I'm used to, so I didn't mind as much that it was just a burger with pickles. After a great experience at another GAR location (Coastal Flats) I'd say this was fine but a lot of the charm of these huge restaurants is the atmosphere, which just wasn't the same when it was quiet.

A family favorite! The blackened prime rib, salmon, and filet are absolutely delicious. To be honest, I could go on and on about it, but the best advice anyone can give you is - go there. If you're anxious about a date (and don't mind spending a little more), you're sure to leave a good impression and have a good time!

Arties is usually one of my top brunch restaurants but came here for the first time for a late dinner with my bf. We were craving a good steak and decided to come here (it was around 9pm). We ordered their Hickory smoked black angus steak, crab bisque soup, and a field green salad. The steak was nicely seared and medium rare just like we ordered and was the perfect portion to split for a late dinner meal. It was a little bit on the salty side for me but most restaurants tend to be over salted for me anyways. The crab chowder was creamy with tasty crab flavor. It definitely hit the spot to warm us up from the cold weather. GAR salads are always a good choice for me so no complaints there. The server was friendly and brought us out a heaping fresh bowl of hot Ozzie rolls and kept our hot water cups filled with new lemon wedges. Can't go wrong with GARs!!

Outstanding...I absolutely loved this experience overall. You must get the pecan crusted trout. The bourbon mash cocktail is DELISH. Calamari was perfectly cooked and seasoned. Also, the daily fish special was superb as well, it was red trout. White choc bread pudding for dessert is sinfully delicious. The staff is also very friendly and knowledgeable. Our server Joe G was top knotch and welcoming, we loved our entire experience from start to finish! Will be back next time we are in town! Thank you!

A solid GAR property where we received the level of service and food quality we expect from the group meaning it was great. Loved the mint ice cream we had over the molten chocolate waffle for dessert. It was great to connect with one of our favorite managers who moved to this restaurant a few years ago from Sweetwater in Merrifield (the closest GAR to where we live which means we go there a lot more than Arties).

  • Rebecca M.

I learned a lot from our first (bad) experience here. Rather than wait on a busy Saturday, we called ahead to be placed on the list and arrived earlier which meant no wait at all. Service was friendly and attentive. The food was the best part of this most recent trip. The Sauteed Chicken Paillard was divine. Angelhair pasta with a buttery sauce and assorted vegetables. I would have licked the place if no one was watching. Or maybe I did anyway....

It has all of the components of the other Great American Restaurants, including those donut rolls. The menu is just the right size with a good selection. Brunch is probably my favorite time to go there, as their chicken and waffles are great. Service has been consistent every time. Their beer selection mirrors their other restaurants with good in-house (sort of) brews.

  • Will N.

Like most of other Great American restaurants, Artie's is on their game. Service is consistently good, food consistently tasty, and reasonably priced as always. The ribs, filet, and salmon are LEGIT! Ribs. MMMMM! Specialty cocktail and wine list is ok... Not great. Everything else I really like about this place. If you like Coastals you'll probably like Arties a little more. It's a little more like Jackson's (Great American's Reston restaurant.

This restaurant reminds me a lot of Sweet Water Tavern, and for good reason, it's owned by the same restaurant group. They also share quite a few of the menu items, but no complaints here because I've been a long time fan of SWT. We had a tuna app., which was a feature app. for the evening and was fantastic as always. We also got the crab fritters (all time favorite) and the egg rolls which were also on point. I got the crab cakes for my meal, my buddy had the same and we both had nothing left on our plates when we were done. I can't remember what my wife had, probably because it was a salad of some sort. I should note, even their salads are really good here, though sometimes they're a little heavy on the dressing, so I would recommend requesting dressing on the side, or even easier, request they back off a bit. Also, if you're up for desert, their bread pudding is to die for. Will definitely go here again next time I'm in the FFX area.

Always a great place for lunch or dinner. Food is always spot on and the service is always good. Chicken fingers are great - enough for two to share if you get an appetizer!

I love Artie's. It's a beautiful restaurant. The wood paneling is warm and inviting. If you have to sit at the bar before your meal on a crowded night, the bartenders keep you entertained with their hospitality and light banter. The restaurant side is nautical themed, more boating than fishy as some have mentioned, especially in comparison to Coastal Flats. The booths are cozy and feel very intimate. The food is spectacular; on par with the other Great American Restaurants in the area, most comparable with Mike's IMO. They also feature GAR craft brews and have a fantastic wine selection. I highly recommend the boathouse salad, the chicken tenders (not even kidding), the jambalaya pasta, rare seared tuna (pictured), and their ribs (beef ribs pictured). Although to be fair, I don't think there is anything on the menu that I have disliked. Great food, great service, great atmosphere. Great American Restaurants really get it right and Artie's is no exception.

Bubble and squeak was amazing!! Besides amazing food, they have top notch customer service. My elderly uncle is a bit picky but they accommodated all his needs and very patient answering all his questions. Next time I visit, I will definitely come back!!

Well I'm giving this place 5 stars even though it was my worst experience ever. I had the Prime Rib and it was over cooked and then that they ran out. So I spent $135.00 and did get what I wanted. The manager Micheal ended up giving me a gift card for the inconvenience. All is well.

A wonderful scam WALL STREET (you know it's a public company) My point is, Public Relations and not food is the focus here, the place is like you just arrived in an expensive care home Cocktails are served at the table by 2numer servers performing some act with cocktail shaker at the your table and the what comes out of the cocktail shaker is basically ice water. The Pork lion which I ordered was cut up into thin slices I'm sure I didn't get even 4oz Enough ! and thank you for paying your PR company pity you don't pay you staff instead of having me pay them.

One of my favorite restaurants, ever! Haven't tried the entire menu but everything I've had has been exceptional. I usually get the filet mignon and upgrade the salad to the warm goat cheese salad - fantastic meal. Love the ribs, rib eye, jambalaya, prime rib, cheese burger (the best burgers, period!), etc. They used to have beef tips that were fantastic - wish the would bring those back. Whenever they have grits on the menu, I'll either get them as a side or substitute for them. Just excellent grits. They also have a Sat and Sun brunch. I often get the french toast and eggs. Everything is great but the french toast is the star - lightly encrusted with granola and served with maple bacon bourbon syrup. Staff is outstanding - friendly, very attentive and never leaves you waiting. Any issues at all get management attention - they make sure your visit is outstanding. Can't recommend them highly enough.

The food at Artie's is always really good, but our server, Daniel (the receipt says #190), gets extra credit for being timely, professional, helpful, and patient with my in-laws. Laughing at jokes like "-and I'll be your customer!" is always excellent form.

  • Nick S.

Artie's feels like a high-end chain restaurant, akin to McCormick & Schmick or Clyde's. The food, while tasty, is heavy. I had a pecan-crusted trout that was delicious for exactly three bites, and then overwhelmingly sweet and sugary for the rest. Same went for the bread and the crab cakes; all good, but butter or salt predominantly owned the flavor profile. The prices are also quite high. Not ridiculous, but I wouldn't decide to eat here on a whim. Where Artie's shines, however, is in the service. The staff are fantastic. When last I went we had a ridiculously huge party, and they nailed it despite having multiple kids, new parents and an assortment of dietary restrictions.

I had a really good experience with Arties when I went with my family but this time..not so much. I ordered primavera pasta and I left a lot of food. I guess it really depends on what you get. So good luck choosing menu!

Came here for Brunch on a Saturday. Since I had never been here, I went ahead and made a reservation. I'm glad I did because they were probably around 80% capacity the whole time I was here. My friend and I ordered three things in total and both proclaim we will be back to try more. We ordered: Blue crab fritters- 3 meaty crab fritters with a crunchy outside and yummy corn salsa sauce Chicken and Waffles-Boneless crispy chicken over waffles Bubbles and Squeak-2 poached or scrambled eggs on top of 2 boneless crispy chicken breasts on top of 2 homemade biscuits covered in gravy Everything was above and beyond in terms of taste expectations. Our server was also really nice, attentive, and helpful. He suggested a couple house favorites that I will be eager to try next time, specifically the salmon.

Artie's falls in line with the rest of the great American restaurant chains. Decent yet pretty generic food. I guess the point of it all is comfort food but a little shake up doesn't hurt anybody. Stopped by Artie's for a Saturday brunch. Place was fairly empty so I was seated quickly. Service was okay, hostess, waiter and the rest of the staff were friendly and helpful. Food is okay, I had the chicken and waffles. Chicken was two flat breast overly breaded. Seasoning was decent, nice flavor with a little extra kick of spice. The waffle was a bit underwhelming, I felt like it had been sitting out for a while, like they make a giant batch of waffles when the place opens and just grab them out as people order. Maybe I shouldn't blame Artie's for being just okay, I mean the Great American restaurants meet the lowest common denominator, maybe it is my fault for not falling into that category.

  • Diane B.

This place hit the brunch spot! They won me over with the donuts in the bread basket and the foodie waiter who was excited about the menu. My husband and I tried the shrimp and crab louis, which was generously portioned and tasty. We also enjoyed the crab eggs benedict and a special king river salmon with raspberry glaze. The prices were overall much more reasonable than a lot of seafood in NoVa, and honestly, the food was just as good. I will be back to try dinner.

I give this restaurant four stars only because the Parmesan potatoes were undercooked, however, the waitress was attentive, clam chowder excellent, and the pecan crusted trout was flavorful. Margarita was well made. Over all atmosphere reminded me of mikes American grill which makes sense because they're in the same chain. They had a decent selection of food, although it all seemed "rich". I would definitely recommend this place to meet up with friends or for a date night. Decent prices too. I wish I had more flavorful vocab to describe this place (pun intended), but I don't. It was just a solid good meal.

At first I felt like the step child when greeted by the hostess without a reservation. So here's a lesson learned - call ahead for a reservation. She proceeded to tell us we could sit in the bar, that it is full menu/ full service or a 35-45 minute wait. We make our way to the bar area, there is nowhere to sit at the actual bar only at "the rail" on the perimeter. No problem we've sat like that at other restaurants. No one comes to help us. I see the manager and ask for menus. He starts to tell us that they typically don't allow people to eat on the rail, but he decides to deem us worthy and sends over a server. Along comes Sarah. She tells us of the specials and takes our drink order. She asked for a credit card, which I was taken aback by at first. Do I look like a dasher? After taking our order, our food starts to arrive and things were going great until his potato comes contaminated with sour cream (which he specified to leave off) and my soup didn't arrive. Upon learning of this Sarah got my soup quickly. The prime rib was good, my crab fritters amazing! As we finished eating, she came and told us she was gifting us a signature banana pudding - so delicious. I really appreciate when people try to correct mistakes rather than play it off as someone else's problem. Go, sit in the bar and let Sarah take care of you. But wear a sweater cuz baby, it's cold inside!

By far my favorite of all the Great American Restaurants! I've had their fillet mignon and it was cooked to perfection, medium rare as all steak should be ordered. Love their brunch as well, I always get the chicken and waffles. Perfect combination of spicy and sweet, the chicken is perfectly cooked And justs picky enough. Another dish I recommend is the French toast with eggs and bacon! They also give you a freshly made basket of warm doughnut holes rolled in cinnamon sugar. Omg, they're amazing! I highly recommend this place to anyone who's looking for a good meal!

Service is impeccable! PROS: - Bread basket - The ones that are round and look like a donut hole taste Ahmazing! I had to ask the waiter what they were called. He said they were called Ozzies. - Tex Mex Eggrolls - tad spicy but pretty good. the egg rolls paired really well with the sauce. - Grapefruit juice - very fresh; still has some pulp which I like. - Free refills on iced tea - Blue Crab Fritters (with roasted corn salsa and lobster ginger butter) - these were heavenly. It is a must get item. Great presentation. The fritters had a lot of texture and they were very creamy. The corn salsa was very good. - Pecan Crusted Trout (with the original chardonnay citrus sauce, lemon dressed arugula and Parmesan potatoes) the pecans were very sweet and the trout dipped in citrus sauce was mouthwatering. the potatoes were wonderful as well. I love mash potatoes but their Parmesan potatoes were out of this world and the Parmesan was slightly crusted which made it even better. - Jambalaya Pasta (with sauteed shrimp, chicken, andouille sausage, tomato, scallions & penne pasta in a spicy creole sauce) - It was very delicious however I can't handle spicy food so this was great for a couple bites but if you are like my friend who likes spicy food this will be a great choice. - Great place to take a date on or for a special occasion. - Bathroom was very clean and large - Our waiter was very friendly and chatty. CONS: - None - this just shows how good they are. Fun fact: restaurant was made to look like a ship. I would definitely love to come back here again!

Where do I start? This place is amazing. Despite some of the previous reviews I read, customer service was actually great and on point! Absolutely no issues there. OK here goes the lowdown: me and my hunny were celebrating our anniversary and a very important one at that, so we decided to go to a fancier place and treat ourselves. I told her to order anything she wants, so we each got an appetizer - the infamous blue crab fritters and the fried calamari. Simply put - both were superb. Amazing flavors, decadent sauces, extremely fresh seafood. Next, our entrees - prime rib special and baby back ribs meal. The ribs were perfectly smoked and literally fell off the bone and we are VERY particular about ribs. My prime rib was IMMENSE and fit for a 500 lb Medieval KING and I mean that literally. I wasn't expecting it to be that huge. That'll last me for several days. The taste was yummy.....perfectly seasoned. My only non - food related issue and this is VERY minor, is that the temperature in the restaurant was set on Alaska. It was immensely COLD. So I suggest you bring a big jacket if you go anytime soon. Other than that, awesome place that I will treat my hunny to once in awhile. Oh and their warm white chocolate bread pudding.....words can't even express my infatuation with the rich delicious peace of heaven that was on that plate. The best I've ever had in my entire life. Please try it!!! Enjoy!

Had lunch here the other day. It was very crowded for a noon weekday. Service and environment is first class. Recommend the salads( Tuna or salmon) as well as the Chicken dishes. The bread they serve is very tasty as well.

I have patronized Artie's since the late 1980s and it is disappointing that the last few times I have been there management's attention to quality and, in particular, customer service has fallen to an unacceptable level. A while back, a plainly inebriated waiter spilled a tray of drinks on my six year old child and myself. Management's solution was to offer a free dessert. I refused that offer and watched the manager's apologetic tone become one of resentment and initial resistance when I insisted they cover dry cleaning. The meal was not comped. Two weeks ago, I took my mother to Artie's for her birthday. She was enjoying her meal until she found a small rubber band in her food. The server took it back to show her manager who then turned up at the table with a new meal and claiming that the rubber band was actually a cross-section of a scallion. Neither my mother nor I had any appetite and did not want or need a new meal. I told the server we were too full for dessert and requested the check. She returned a few minutes later to tell us her manager had authorized a complimentary dessert. When I thanked her and refused the offer she handed me the check. We were charged for both meals. Those are last meals we will have at any Great American Restaurant (the chain the holds Artie's and other restaurants in the area).

Great service, fun atmosphere, wonderful menu. Love that there are like 5 hostesses, makes getting a seat faster. My fav dish is the jambalaya pasta (eat the pasta or just the proteins - there's THAT much food). Yum.

I always enjoy eating at Artie's - good food, consistent service. I know what I'm going to get there, and not spend a fortune - the consistency is nice. However, last night's dinner left a little something to be desired. Service was efficient as usual, but this time, perhaps too efficient - our meals literally came out 5 bites into our salads. I know that I only ordered a soup for dinner (so knowing mine comes out of a vat, I know there's not much to prepare) but my husband ordered the crab cakes, which required a bit more preparation, so I was shocked to see how quickly the entrees came out. No issues with any of the food, everything was prepared just fine. And it's not like my husband were looking to have a long, leisurely dinner, but we were in and out of there in about 30 minutes. It was 8pm-ish on a Friday, too, so they had a good crowd, so again, just surprised how fast everything was. I always enjoy the lobster bisque there (that's what I got last night) as well as the chopped salad. Other favorites are the crab cakes, cajun creole pasta, and ribs. If this had been my first visit - I'd probably rate two stars because of how fast our dining experience was - I truly felt rushed. But, I've been a number of times, and plenty of others would have been 4-star visits, so I'll settle on a 3-star review. Again, consistent, quality food, and good service makes this Artie's a place where I'd return.

We had chicken tenders with string shoe fries, coleslaw, the crab cakes, succotash (veggie of the day) and Parmesan potato. Everything was delicious. The chicken tenders had a very flavorful batter, looked like poppy seeds? with a super great honey mustard dip. The coleslaw, not my favorite, it's the almost all green kind, similar to Ford's Fish Shack. The fries... I LOVE tiny crispy fries. I could eat them forever. The crab cake was very good, the succotash awesome and the parmesan potatoes. We finished that plate, and we're not big eaters, we just couldn't stop ourselves. Will definitely be back and try their ribs and mac and cheese and brunch.

I felt extremely bad giving Mikes American Grill such a bad review (but believe me, the last several times I have been there, it really has been that bad). Maybe being a former Gar-star having worked for the company, I just know what to expect and became the "restaurant snob" let alone for this particular company. Well, different story for Arties. 5 stars all the way!! This happens to be my favorite GAR. ALWAYS great service and food. Never had any mishaps with food or the service here. I usually always start at the bar and Jenny and Remy are wonderful!! Keep up the good work Arties!

Have been a long time Artie's fan (see my 4/1/2014 review) but VERY disappointed of late. Servers who have been wonderful for years disappearing and "requests" directly to manager are ignored or filed in the circular trash file. Food -- even my GO TO blackened chicken Caesar salad (now with a different, diluted dressing and so little romaine lettuce you'd think it was $100 a stalk!!!) -- lacking in consistency of late. Fish dish of the day seems to be lower quality of least desirable fish locally available but rather pricey for Artie's AND server only offered grouper after I complained that it was never available. Truth is the restaurant management requires servers to push the more expensive catch of the day but because the server knew we were regulars who asked for grouper many times, he "checked with the chef" to see if there was any grouper. Too bad it was, though, because it was undercooked and a very small piece for $24.95!!! Last weekend, finally, catch of the day was halibut, but it was also a very small piece and we didn't want the gummy grits which came with it, so we ordered fries and each received a portion size of about 12 French fries, again for $24.95. Someone in management should visit Wildfire in McLean and try a REALLY great halibut meal. Management does not deal with families with children who are disruptive who should be home napping. GAR seems to be failing fast. Hello??? Is anyone listening?

I should give them 5 stars, but they changed their menu. The Crab Cakes are some of the best I have ever had. They did not have the Key Lime desert we went there for, but the manager gave us a free Lemon Meringue. I would go back and recommend it to others.

We had the best brunch ever here today! Found Artie's by searching for "chicken n waffles" on yelp. Called ahead on the way there to get the wait started. There was some confusion on getting a table for two for us once we arrived and we waited twenty minutes with the buzzer and saw other people go in and be seated. Not sure if something was wrong with it. The minor wait was well worth it though. I of course ordered the chicken n waffles and my husband had the crab cakes and eggs. Everything was amazing! We also had the apple pie and pumpkin cake, yum yum!! The manager came over at one point he was very nice and personable as well as all of the staff. We will return one day and try their dinner.

The brunch is so good. French toast!! Service was ok. Hostess was really friendly. I didn't like that the server didn't tell me there is ice in mimosas there.

Yet another Great American restaurant to add to my "I've been there" list. My girlfriend and I decided to go here on a Friday night. The restaurant is on the corner of the shopping center. The parking is a bit weird and compact. The restaurant was packed! Good thing my friend called ahead to put our name on the wait list. We had the following: Penne Primavera w/shrimp - a little too much garlic but delicious Crab cakes - always a fav I had some virgin fruity drink with lemonade and blackberries that the waiter recommended. It was so good! The service was great, like every other Great American. But the menu isn't that much different from Mikes's.

Look, this place has a great appearance, really nice staff, and seems very clean. The reason I didn't give them a high rating is because they basically have no real vegetarian options. It's 2014. They used to have a veggie burger which I LOVED, and then I started frequenting the restaurant more--almost every week--opposed to my once every couple months appearance. Then the veggie burger stopped (because I guess it wasn't ordered a lot), and there wasn't a replacement. It really sucked :(. They were REALLY nice and told me to call before I came in next time and they'd find me something but I felt awkward doing that and just stopped going. I really like them but really need them to offer vegetarian dishes or at least make dishes with options that are delicious with or without meat. Thanks.

Arties, the décor here is very boathouse, I'm in Massachusetts, in a beachside restaurant, wearing some sperries, or maybe some vineyard vines, sipping on some pinot, and laughing with my friends !! OK- so you get the idea, the place has a very summery sea side-esque. I recognize that that is a made up word, but sometimes the dictionary doesn't do life justice. This is another Great American Restaurant, so it's in the same chain as Sweetwater Tavern, Mike's American Grill, Coastal Flats, etc...so you will notice the menu is pretty much the same as the other restaurants with a few minor tweaks. I had the ribeye which was 29 dollars with a side of broccolini, they masked the healthy taste of this veggie perfectly, and left me yearning for more! My little brother had the kid's cheeseburger and French fries. The fries were fresh and hot outta the oven! I had the crab dip as an appetizer, which had huGEEEEEE chunks of crab all throughout! I wasn't a big fan, but I know people out there who would enjoy it !!!!! The service here, is exceptional! These people are attentive, and really deliver top notch service.

Been coming here for many years, it's also one of my parent's favorite places. Always great food and top notch service. I like Silverado as well in the Great American Restaurant chain, however Arties has a bit more of a refined atmosphere for special occasion dinners. I have had the chopped house salad, BBQ Baby Ribs (the cole slaw is great that comes with it, and I usually sub in sweet potato fries), Jambalaya Pasta, Salmon Filet, all good... The white chocolate bread pudding is great too if you saved room. There was only one time (out of many we have dined there) a less experienced waiter served us (he explained he was new). He wasn't familiar with the wine selections, our only fault is he should have deferred to someone more knowledgable to assist instead of guessing and my dad called him on it.

Went there for Easter late lunch and sat in the bar that was NOT even 60% full. The bartender only came to us 3 times total and that was after a long time waiting and my fiance having to wave him down. It was so bad my fiance sarcastically thought we didn't look "wealthy" enough.

So heavily reviewed I doubt this one will matter much, but here goes. The food was excellent, for what it was. In our party of eight, we somehow conspired to get only four different dishes, and they were all very good. Tuna salad, penne primavera (a bit sweet but very good), and an excellent steak were among the highlights. So why the frowny face? At these prices, I expected top of the line preparation and service. Lots of inconsistencies in the preparation and presentation were evident, But more glaring was the inexperienced server we had. The order was slow from the kitchen, albeit on a busy night but a weeknight at that, and several orders were mixed up and forgotten, including a side order that came out when everybody else was ordering dessert. They also had very little knowledge about their own wine list, which is inexcusable. I don't mind being upsold on a wine, but when the complete attempt consists of "come on, you know you want to try something new" to upgrade from the $22 bottle to the $39 bottle, I'm just not going there with you. I want a conversation about my food, not a cheerleading squad. I had the feeling after that I just couldn't trust the server's recommendations, which is part of what you pay for in such a joint. It was also loud and a bit cheek and jowl for a high-end place. So: sorry, not as special as the ratings and reviews might have suggested, in our experience.

You really can't go wrong with GAR's, but some are better than others. Artie's is one that lags a little behind because the service is a little sub-par when compared to the others. Love the dark wood bar off to the left when you come in, has a clubby, comfortable feel to it. Bartenders are friendly and efficient. When you go to the dining room it is less efficient. It seem like they always miss something with our order, whether it be the wrong meal, improper side or steak cooked wrong---ordered a steak medium the last time and it came out blood read---boo! Artie's you can be so much more, but it looks like you are happy the way you've always been.

Upscale American casual dining. Good food at $15-$25 a plate. Salad plates and the basic dinner options, beef, pork, fish, chicken, pasta. My 3-year old wanted Mac&cheese, but the only have that on Saturdays with baby back ribs. They were happy to modify the kids pasta and red sauce minus the sauce add butter and Parmesan cheese. My ribeye was pretty good, but almost twice the price of a steak chain store and only marginally better. Caesar salad was decent but smothered in dressing and cheese; love the first few mouthfuls but it becomes a bit overwhelming. Good safe reliable fancy family dinner place.

Called to make a Sunday brunch reservation on a Friday but they didn't have it when we arrived. Best to confirm reservation because there all I was told was maybe it wasn't written down right which is a pretty lame excuse. So we our group had to wait almost 30 minutes for a table. That's the only bad part of our brunch experience. The chicken and waffles were amazing! The French toast was more like cake but still tasty. Service was great too! Going back soon!

The BEST service. Excellent front of the house staff- call ahead seating, courteous staff. Waiters are always checking on you, clearing plates, refreshing drinks. Good menu options (wish they would change it up a bit) but all in all,top 10 places I keep coming back to.

I always have steak salad here. The steak salad is full of flavor @ a good price. But I prefer goat cheese instead of blue cheese with it. Another dish I like is chicken tender; very tender! I never tried like this before. Oh bread is sweet and yammi :) my wife took the bread left home and never wasted them..

Pulled it up on Yelp and needing a place to dine. I choose Artie's over several others in the area. Glad I did! Good food, good price, decent atmosphere, but hey, I was here for the food. Biggest challenge was parking, but that aside, it was a great experience.

A group of 3 ate here on a Monday night. Wasn't very busy. We all loved the food. Order the fish of the day, which was Mahi Mahi. It was cooked to perfection with just enough spice to give it a kick. Save room for dessert. I had the deep dish apple pecan pie with homemade ice cream. This was really good. The others in our party had the ice cream sandwich of which I had a taste and it was very good. I would definitely come back and try something new because I have no doubt it would be good.

I've never had a bad meal at Artie's. It's my family's go-to nice but still casual restaurant in Fairfax City. High notes: their tex mex egg rolls and spinach and artichoke dip are both my favorite appetizers in the entire NoVA area!! They are so tasty I am hungry just thinking about them. Their warm bread basket comes with many types of bread, one type tastes more like a sugary donut! Delicious. Easily one of the best, if not THE best restaurant in Fairfax.

My boyfriend and I are a huge fan of Artie's. We average dinner there about once a week. The food is delicious. I highly recommend the filet with crab cakes, the grilled chicken salad, the chop salad, the Cajun Pasta, and my new favorite item that I get regularly is the fish special. It's served most nights of the week and it includes the fish of the day (I've had it with Rockfish, Halibut, and Mahi-Mahi) served over a tostada, with lime sauce, coleslaw, and black beans. It's amazing. The brunch menu is also quite good. I love their Crab cakes benedict and next time we go for brunch I will try the Bubble and Squeak. We usually eat at the bar since there is always a wait for the dining room. The bar staff is very friendly and service is so good and fast there. It's clean and the decor is great. I've been to a few other restaurants in the GAR chain, and this is my favorite by far. I wouldn't recommend it for large groups, as other reviewers have noted it's always crowded and they can't seat parties larger than six together. We went with 8 once and they had to sit us in two booths across the aisle from each other. They also do NOT take reservations.

  • Chunnu B.

Good service and the food is fan-freaking-tastic. I can only speak for their brunch but considering it's part of the GAR chain, I'm sure lunch and dinner here is good too. If you are impatient and hate waiting (like myself) make sure to CALL AHEAD so they can get you a table as soon as you get there. Waiting sucks, especially if it's a busy time, you just need space up there and with people coming in and out, space is not something you really have. LOVE their French Toast with their fruit sauce thing, I get it every time. Eggs Benedict is awesome too and you must get a mimosa, yum yum yum! Waiters are super friendly but I feel that after they take your order, it's hard to get their attention if you need anything else. Just depends who you get, it's just more times than not I've experienced this lack of attentiveness. Another downside, if you don't have GPS or know where this place is, it can be annoying to find. When you do find it and come during busy time, parking is annoying too. Overall though, love this GAR, not one of my favorites (guess I don't feel the boat theme going on or the general layout, doesn't scream "fun" to me) but still a good spot for brunch.

Artie's has the friendliest bartenders in the entire area. Plus their Prime Rib is the best I've ever had (it is blackened, not overly spicy, but full of flavor). Ask about the Prime Rib and scrambled eggs for brunch (it is sometimes available off the menu). I love to eat in the bar area where everybody knows your name.

  • Drew F.

(4.5) Artie's, like pretty much any Great American Restaurant, is delicious and dead reliable, if just a touch pricey. Service is perpetually great. If something's wrong with your meal, they fix it without question, often with a manager coming by to offer a free dessert or coupon for your trouble. Saltiness is a bit of a concern for some dishes, but, as I'm a certified salt-fiend, I can't say that it bothers me. Noise levels are generally pretty high, so don't come here if you're looking for murmured conversations. Just come hungry, and with a thick wallet.

I think I've had everything on the menu at least once, if not twice, and there is absolutely no bad dish here. It is all perfectly prepared, the service is fantastic no matter if they are packed or empty. The menu descriptions are lacking somewhat compared to the quality of their food, but hey, that's great for me! It means I can usually find a table.

It's been a long time since I've eaten at Artie's. Earlier in the week, I was out shopping for lamps and chandeliers for my new home and was planning to hit the Lamp and Light Store at the other end of the shopping center from Artie's - so my Mom and I decided to eat lunch at Artie's before checking out lamps. We were promptly seated, it was a Tuesday morning just after the lunch rush. Mom ordered the Caesar salad with grilled Cajun chicken, I ordered the Grilled Salmon on a bed of greens. Both salads were scrumpdillylicious and outstanding! I tasted a bit of Mom's chicken, I could have eaten a truckload of that chicken! My salmon was cooked Medium as I requested, the greens were crisp and fresh, the vinagrette was tangy and just right, and the goat cheese provided a nice creamy contrast to the greens. Yummy!

Great Steaks and the best Caesar salad in town. I would give them 5 stars except that the service is average and the wait staff tend to mess up the order. Try the Warm Flourless Chocolate Waffle it's delicious.

We came back a second time for dinner because we had an incredible time at lunch. Artie's lived up to expectations once again. We called ahead because we went on a Friday night and we knew it was going to be busy and obviously it was. When we got there we still had to wait about 10 minutes as they were trying to get everything set up and at that time I was getting impatient because I was starving but I'll let that slide. The service was good just like last time. Now, for the dinner. I've gone to other GAR and so Artie's definitely beats Mike's (by far) and Carlyle. I had the Chicken Paillard and the fiance had Crabcakes. My Chicken Paillard tasted much better than the one at Carlyle but what really shocked me was that my fiance liked the coleslaw. That's one thing he never eats so I was really suprised. Seems like we've got another spot to add to our list in Fairfax....

The food here is the best in Fairfax Corner. Always consistent, always flavorful, always filling. Favorites that I must have every time I go back to NOVA include: - Warm Aussie Rolls with butter - Warm Goat Cheese Salad - Lobster Bisque - Trout The service this time was a little "off". The server was not very patient with our working group, and seemed to get a little annoyed with our requests. However, the food was so good I would not care how "rude" or "off" the service was - I'd still go back for more.

Solid team oriented service. Easy to get a table at 6pm on a Friday night, wouldn't go much later. As we were leaving...many were waiting. Spinach artichoke dip was a good start but unremarkable. The grilled chicken sandwich with arugula, roasted red peppers and lightly fried bread was a nice entree. Sweet potato fries were tasty. Not bad. If I am over that way again during the dinner hour - might be worth a return trip.

Prime rib nights are Friday and Saturday. Always perfectly cooked as ordered. Appetizers - blue crab fritters and crispy fried calamari - perfection! The services are always perfect. This is a MUST-VISIT for me whenever I'm in town.

The varied bread basket was amazing - the rolls were like fresh, warm donuts!! We shared a yummy spinach and artichoke dip with chips to start. All three of us enjoyed fall off the bone baby back ribs, shoestring fries and fresh coleslaw. Tasty banana pudding had a pretty presentation and the warm apple pecan pie also was a nice finish. A combination of dedicated server with team support yielded a great experience.

The Great American Restaurants continue to be great, and I believe Artie's was one of their first. All others -- Coastal Flats, Sweetwater Tavern, and so on -- seem to have taken Artie's as their template because they pretty much share a menu and style of dining. A top tip for people with kids is that, if your munchkins don't much like the looks of the regular menu (or, as in our case, don't want meat or fish), they'll happily make you a grilled cheese sandwich if you ask nicely. Not sure what'd happen if you didn't ask nicely. Perhaps it'd be a grilled tarmac sandwich? One note of caution is that most of the tables at Artie's are booths big enough for four American-sized people. (Yes, that's sarcasm.) There are some regular tables that can fit parties of 6 or more but the wait for those is often very long, especially at weekends. So call ahead to put your name down. Anyway, it's dependable and tasty, if a bit over-seasoned at times....just like the other restaurants from this company.

You cannot go wrong dining at one of the Great American Restaurants. I am a big fan of Mike's and Sweet Water, so naturally, I am a big fan of Artie's. Similar service style and menu selection as the GAR (which is awesome). Hossed out and had the ribs and macaroni and cheese for dinner tonight (split with Mom so I shared the guilt...). Delicious. And the texas eggrolls are yummy, too. Good stuff.

I go here at least once a week. This place is up and down their food is really good usually. It depends on who is in the kitchen. A lot of the time everything is over salted but when they get it right its money. Also I have expereinced that everytime I order a steack it is never cooked as the waiter explains med rare to be. They need to go back to basic cooking school 101. Everytime I have a problem it is always fixed and made up for!

Every time I consider going somewhere else, I always end up back at Artie's. Consistently a great meal, I can't think of anything I don't like on their menu. For our most recent visit (a birthday celebration) everything was done just right including managing special orders for picky eaters in the party. Waitstaff was excellent. Yes it is a bit more than, say Outback, but you definitely get what you pay for here!

We had dinner here a few months ago with friends. They made reservations or called ahead so we were seated immediately even though the place looked packed. LOVE the decor and lighting. Very friendly helpful staff since it was our first time dining there. The food was amazing and it wasn't too loud. We could hear our friends and our waiter. For dessert you have to try the flourless Chocolate waffle it is so yummy! It's located in a very strange place...an ugly shopping center in what looks like an older part of town, but it's worth it and we will be going again!

This is by far my favorite retaurant in the "Great American" chain... it is like a Clydes but with better food and better prices... I especially like the 24 oz blackened prime rib, blackened ribeye and everything on the brunch menu.... if you are craving some good reasonably priced American food then this is the best place that I have ever tasted...

Appearances are deceiving. What looks like a chain restaurant serves excellent food! The short smoked salmon fillet was exceptional - it's smoked for a while and then cooked to order. Wow! And their dinner rolls were pretty amazing too. They make a great dirty martini. The service was very good as well. I'll be back.

I really can't resist a GAR! The standout usually seems to be the black Angus rib eye steak. The ambiance here is fun, the service is great, the food is good. I can't complain! You may have a hard time finding the place though. It's at the end of a strip mall surrounded by Korean shops, behind the Lotte. You have to turn the corner of the strip mall to see it.

Dinner menu is Americana. Bread rolls are excellent. Portion size is large. Best time to go is brunch on Sunday morning. Eggs are excellent.

We had a late lunch today and the service and food were flawless. The bread and rolls were obviously home made and the fries were perfect (and we're picky about fries).

First time at this restaurant. My wife and brother in law came with me and we had good food overall. My ribeye steak was excellent and was cooked to order. Although I think it is a bit pricey, if I lived closer, I would go back again.

What can I say about Artie's? It might be my favorite restaurant in Fairfax. It's part of the Great American Restaurants group. If you're familiar with GAR, you know what to expect. Exceptional service and high quality food. I love the lobster bisque. Every time I come here for dinner, I have to almost force myself not to order the short smoked salmon filet. And may I recommend that you get over your "raw" squeamishness and order it rare. I won't eat it any other way. It's like a completely different dish than if you order it cooked through like so many people are inclined to do with fish. The asparagus is cooked but still crunchy and the dijon cream sauce is lovely. It has sharpness to it because of the dijon mustard but the cream softens it so that it is very pleasant and mild and perfectly enhances the flavor of the salmon. Of course the steaks are all great too. But if you want to save some money, don't be afraid to get a burger! At Artie's it's not "just a burger"... it's a burger made from their steaks, just ground up into a burger! Very juicy and flavorful because of the quality of the beef used. Their burgers, while not their specialty, are still going to be better than most burgers you'll get anywhere else (except for maybe Ray's Hellburger). They have a great bar and use only fresh ingredients in all their drinks (e.g. fresh mint leaves in their mojitos vs. the "mint syrup" you get at some places). Brunch is great too. Get a mimosa or a bloody mary to start your day! The french toast is fantastic - get it! Brunch also offers you another opportunity to try the short smoked salmon filet (mmm...) but this time it has homefries too. As for dessert, the chocolate waffle is very chocolaty and not too sweet... but sweet enough and delightfully warm and gooey. The banana pudding is great. If you want something lighter, there's always the creme brulee with fresh raspberries (and yes, they're fresh). The best thing about Artie's (and all GAR restaurants) is that they are dedicated to making sure you leave happy. They'll ask how you like what you've ordered. If you don't like your drink or your food or if the preparation is unsatisfactory in any way, they will literally INSIST that you let them make you something else or re-make it for you according to your preferences. My salmon came out closer to a medium/medium-rare once. I said it was good but could have been more rare. They put a rush order in for me and had a brand new salmon cooked perfectly rare back at my table within a few minutes. Now that's what I call great business practices!

Artie's.....you know, it's.....just there. The prime rib has a mealy texture, the lobster bisque is unforgivably salted, and the front of the house likes to display its temper. But, Artie's is a good place to take your George Mason student for a couple of drinks and some frank conversation. Because everything plays out better over those soft jewel rolls.

Food is great here! But!!!!!!!! How old is the building?? I hate the creaking noise when being seated by the window... I just think "old = mold" and there goes my appetite. Food is better here during rush hours for some reason.

We've visited here many times and it's always good. My spouse always gets the crab cakes sandwich and she says it is the best in the area. She always opts out of the fries for a vegetable dish and the servers are always accommodating. Even the most recent time, we forgot to ask about this, and even after the fries came out, they still brought out a separate vegetable side dish. Me, I'm a little more adventurous - I've tried many of their items. Recently, I had the chicken breast with a poached egg - that was very good. I've had their fish special many times, and it is always good. The only criticism I have is that the side dishes is always the same. It was good the first couple of times - it's still good, but I would like a little more variety with the specials. The service is always excellent - I always recommend this place to others.

Ok, I'm not really sure what to make of this place. It has a similar menu to many of the other Great American Restaurants, including some of the beers from Sweetwater. I got the beef rib special that is available on Tuesdays, and it was eh.... The sauce tasted like vinegar, and the meat wasn't all that great. The crab dip appetizer was also rather blah. However, the service is great, the beer is cold, the drinks are mixed well, and the brunch is awesome. The dinner may have been a 2 out of 5, but the brunch was a solid 4. The breads are always awesome, and especially so during brunch. If you do go for brunch, get a beer (too early? Tighten up, wuss) and the bubble and squeak. Then go to sleep. I guarantee it will be a great day. Anyway, considering the rather poor dinner and the pretty awesome brunch, Artie's gets 3 stars. Again, the service is great, but the food is lacking, and there are too many repeats from other Great American Restaurants. Go for brunch, leave for dinner.

For a relaxed atmosphere with no pretension or fuss, I think Arties is the best. The food is consistently good. The crab cakes and fillet are by far my favorite but you haven't experienced chicken fingers until you've had theirs (or any of the Great American's). On Tuesday, they do $5 pork sliders at the bar until they run out. Two amazing pork sliders and fries for $5 - can't beat it. The bar staff is super friendly too! The Lucky Lounge and their fish special makes any night!!!

I've only been here for brunch, so this is strictly a brunch review. I came here last year before I moved down and thought the bacon and sweet potato fries were pretty money. I recently went again and was very pleased! Service is very friendly. My boyfriend asked if we could get a booth by the window and we were promptly seated. We ordered the bubble and squeak with egg white (ask for egg white if you don't want it to be too heavy, bc its already heavy). We also ordered the grilled salmon w/ asaparagus and home fries. these home fries were good. they are round. crispy on the outside, soft on the inside. NOT SOGGY!!!!! salmon was good. marinated very well and cooked just right! i'll definitely be back!

Always a dependable place to have a meal or a drink, Artie's, as one of the stable of restaurants in the Great American group, is a favorite of ours. The welcome hostesses are efficient are mostly friendly and well trained to get you to your table without too much over-handling. Be aware that peak times may require a long wait. The bar can get crowded. Parking is the only potential problem with this venue. It is oddly positioned and hard to navigate. Be aware of this in bad weather. The dining room is a very warm and pleasant environment for either a quick bite or a leisurely meal. The servers are nearly all very personable, cheerful and attentive. They go out of the way to be accommodating to special requests. The menu is relatively short and stays much the same, but that is because each item is time tested, always well prepared and usually satisfies the craving at the moment. The few specials are a nice addition, but I rarely feel the need to go beyond the basic menu. For a salad, try the warm goat cheese and pecan, which adds a tart and sweet touch to the selection. The crab fritters are a very nice starter, one order is not a lot to share however. The bread basket has the warm puff breads that are addictive The grilled chicken sandwich is a tasty and moist (and filling) choice, a good option for a reasonable price. Crab cakes are an excellent version, and catch of the day is fresh and nicely prepared. I recommend this restaurant as a reliable, enjoyable, and great place for a meal.

As stated in other reviews by me, my in-laws will only eat at "American" or "Tex-Mex" restaurants. By American, they mean burgers and fries. By Tex-Mex, they mean re-fried beans and enough calories to choke a small dog. If the leftovers don't have an opaque, congealed layer of fat on top of them before they're reheated, then my in-laws probably weren't with me for that meal. On the last day of last visit I begged for something different. "Please, can we do Italian, just once?" "Oh, well, I don't really like Italian," my father-in-law complained. "I mean, lasagna is okay, and I like noodles and sauce, but I don't like none of that fettuccine stuff." I'm pretty sure he was talking about Alfredo, but I didn't press the issue. I resigned myself to eating at Artie's Classic American, as every time I suggested a restaurant, the in-laws would chime in, "We saw an American restaurant on the drive over." They do have burgers at Artie's. They don't have tacos. They also have some very tasty appetizers. I would sincerely suggest their crab fritters and their firecracker shrimp if you want some tasty bites to impress your friends. I wasn't jumping out my chair about the entrees and was actually a bit weirded out when they asked how we wanted our pork cooked (I didn't answer, "Safely," as I desperately wanted to, but my boyfriend, former health inspector that he is, quickly said, "145 degrees in the center."). The desserts were the highlight of the evening. Their banana pudding is INCREDIBLE: it's a solid ball of creamy pudding surrounded by banana, caramel, and candied vanilla wafers. YUMMO. They also have excellent, crunchy creme brulee. Overall, I wouldn't call their menu "Classic American" because I think that title better describes Tastee 29 Diner down the road. However, the food was much better than I expected it to be and is definitely a repeat. With drinks, apps, and dessert, expect to put down about $30-$40 a person.

The summit of Mt. Everest is something few of us will see and experience in our lifetime. The sense of overwhelming sense of accomplishment and knowing that all that dedication has finally paid off is probably indescribable. You're on top of the world and it has to be pretty damned satisfying. I've never climbed Everest. But, I, too, have faced a mountain. A heaping, never ending mound of meat in Artie's Blackened Prime Rib served only Thrus, Fri, and Sat. nights. Its a deliciously cooked slab of meat, bone-in, and oh so juicy. Yea, so I ordered it rare and there were a few stares of horror as I was shoving red flesh into my face and had my eyes roll back into my head. It takes a bit of dedication to finish this bad boy off....but sometimes instincts take over and a meat feeding frenzy ensues. I've been here twice and I know what you are already thinking. Yes, YOU... elitist Yelpers. Its a chain restaurant. The absolute horror! How can a non-hole-in-the-wall be worth out time at all? Well...its food is delicious. I've been here two years running for my wife's birthday, and we're thinking about going again and bringing the in-laws. Again. The prices are a little expensive, but the digs are pretty respectable. The service is on the spot about everything from bringing the food out promptly, refilling drinks, and just seeing if anything additional is needed. However, all these attributes would warrant a solid 3 stars, the 1/2 a cow I gorged myself on bumps it up to 4. They take reservations. Make use of that. Parking can be a bit tight, even out in Fairfax, so make a note.

My husband & I just moved to No. VA and for our very first brunch at our new location, we hit up Artie's. This place exceeds expectations for a lot of chain restaurants. My husband & I were both very pleased with our crab cakes & brioche french toast, respectively and thought the portions and food quality were great. We definitely plan on becoming regulars based on our experience this weekend. The doughnut that comes with breakfast bread basket really sets the tone for a great day.

This place is another favorite of mine. The food and service are excellent. Waiters are always friendly and very attentive. This is one of the only restaurants I've visited where the waiters work as a team rather than being individually assigned to a table or group of tables. I always start with the Firecracker shrimp for an appetizer. They are delicious! They have this incredible tangy taste that is out of this world. I've never tasted anything like it :) Another great starter is the Blue crab fritter. I usually don't like crab cakes... but this fritter is so tasty! Their cheddar cheeseburger is great. It has a lot of flavor. Not as boring as it sounds. If you're not in the mood for meat, I recommend the Grilled portobellos & warm goat cheese dish. Its healthy and has a light taste. If you like chicken dishes, you'll love their Sauteed chicken paillard. The sauce for this dish is great and its served over a very tasty chicken and angel hair pasta. Now for dessert... their Warm flourless chocolate waffle is amazing. Its soft and warm and is served with vanilla ice cream, hot fudge and whipped cream. FOOD, I love it! You have to come to this place if you love it too :)

*3.5* I love their blue crab fritters! Minimal breading with tons of juicy, succulent blue crabs. Their Bloody Mary's were a bit disappointing. It just tasted like tomato juice. If it were closer, I would definitely go regularly for a chill, comforting meal.

Oh, this place was just soo good. ORGASMIC. That's a better word. Came here with the folks, my brother and some family friends. Sampled some very good wine and ate an absolutely fantastic dinner. I recommend their Salmon - possibly the best salmon I've ever had in my LIFE - Short Smoked Salmon Filet - marinated, smoked and wood grilled, served with parmesan potatoes (to die for), jumbo asparagus and Dijon cream.. The Caesar Salad, also DELICIOUS. Great service. When we wanted a bag for our many to-go boxes, and they don't have to-go bags...the waiter went through the trouble of raiding the kitchen, for anything he could give us. A little weird, but he handed us a small garbage bag to put all of our leftovers in. Hey, it's the thought and effort that counts right? O.M.G. What a good dinner.

Part of the 'Great American' chain, Artie's brings 'classic American' food to Fairfax. They sit in that niche between casual and overwhelmingly pretentious that often goes unfilled. Entrées run from $19 - $35 or so. A classic characteristic of this niche is not taking reservations. This is ostensibly because they're not that pretentious, but more likely, it's because they like the hype involved in trying to get a table. Everyone is made painstakingly aware of just how popular your restaurant is. What Artie's has going for it is you can call ahead to put your name on 'the list.' If it's the weekend, this is a must. The decor is nice, but again, not so pretentious as to ward off more casually dressed passersby. They have a nautical theme and fun speed boat models that will mesmerize the kids. The food is, predictably, American, but they're doing a fantastic job of it. And if we're going to be quite frank, your average American household isn't preparing baby back ribs or pecan crusted trout for dinner. And even for the ones that do, Artie's takes it a step further. But it does mean that the menu stays fairly basic. And since there isn't anything unpronounceable, it doesn't cater to the Bobos who live closer to the city, and farther from real American life.

On Saturday, my wife made our second trip to Artie's. Like Brandon S., I ordered the Blackened Prime Rib, done medium. At 24 ounces, it's a monster, but I thought it was sensational -- and I finished the whole thing. It comes with a loaded baked potato. I ate most of the innards of that and took the rest home to have for breakfast the next morning. My wife had the Fillet and loved it. For dessert, she ordered the Hot Fudge Sundae. For $6, we thought it would be modest-sized. However, it came with three scoops of homemade vanilla ice cream, whipped cream with crushed pecans, and the chocolate sauce. As full as I was, I ate about a third of it, and it was wonderful. We live in the Gaithersburg area, but I know we'll be coming back to Artie's before to long.

A very special friend took me to Artie's tonight for dinner - I all of my 58 years I have never enjoyed the incredible food, service and ambiance i experienced tonight. Even the leftovers I took home with me were absolutely Incredible - straight out of the fridge. If you haven't been to Artie's you don't know how much you're missing!! FIVE STARS AND MORE!!!!!

Who doesn't love a great meal at one of the GAR chains? I certainly do and I have loved Artie's for a long time now because of the great food. Same menu with minor variations from the others and the same great service. My personal favorite is the smoked salmon which is the best that I've ever had at any restaurant regardless of the price paid. Speaking of price, it isn't that steep given the quality and freshness of the ingredients prepared. Their jambalaya is great and so are the chicken tenders. Now you might laugh that I say I like their chicken tenders, seeing as how it is usually a meal enjoyed by children, not this one. They are tempura battered and are very crispy and flavorful and somehow the chicken inside is always still very juicy. If they ever have the white chocolate bread pudding for desert, get it. It is one of my top 5 favorite deserts ever and I HATE white chocolate, that is saying something. The bar here is fantastic and is always packed. The bar tender will remember your name which is a nice touch and the drinks are not weak and watered down. It never takes long to grab someones attention and they are very efficient. The decor throughout the restaurant has a very upscale feel to it and the place is always very clean. Remember to call ahead or prepare to wait a while during peak hours.

My wife and I have been to Artie's a half-dozen times and have been for lunch, dinner, and brunch. I've only had one meal that was so-so: brunch item called Bubble & Squeak. Not sure what possessed me to get this but it was a little odd and a bit heavy. I've had good luck w/ steaks and prime rib here during the dinner service. Two things to note: parking can be difficult here during dinner hours and sitting in the booths next to the bar is not great if you are sensitive to cigarette smoke. The latter issue may no longer apply since the change to VA laws about smoking in restaurants. One quick tip: call ahead to get your name on a seating list to minimize your wait when you arrive.

Stopped in here for lunch today and was pleased with everything surrounding our experience. Our server(s) were nice and knowledgable. The food was great and presentation was definitely emphasized. Even the salad came out looking professionally made. The sweet potato french fries were good, but I'm not going to lie that I've had them made like that before and there wasn't anything outstanding about them. The grilled portabello and goat cheese entree that I got was unbelievably fresh, tasteful, and good to look at. If you're not in the mood for meat, I'd definitely reccommend. I want to try this place for dinner eventually, but I feel like I'd order the same thing just because it was so good.

Oh Arties, I come here rarely because I believe its on the expensive side!!! Dinner for 2 usually comes out to be about $60-70...most of the times I've come here they have cooked my food perfectly and I've loved it all! (specially that yummy bread they have haha) but the last time I went and I ordered my Fillet Mignon MEDIUM, it was undercooked...wayyy undercooked, it was like raw meat that just got some coloring on the outside...I told the server and she was happy to have it taken care of but when I got it back...20 minutes later, what I received was a well done steak :( Is it so hard to get a steak thats a little pink in the middle? The other times they got it right but this time for some reason they f-ed up my order...I'd feel like a douche having them take it back AGAIN so I just ate my damn steak...was I happy? NO! I hate it when ppl are douche bags and they write like a 3 page article on their reviews so I'll stop here, I'd give arties 4 stars for the previous times i've been there but 1 star for the last time. Btw the last time I went was my anniversary...so yeah kinda sucks that my food wasnt good on such a special day...we had fun regardless tho! :) Anyway come visit arties bc overall the food is good, and if you dont get your steak cooked right, demand another one!!! lol because i mean after all you are paying like 30 bucks for a plate of food...so why not have it be a good plate of food! I've been watching Hells Kitchen a lot, so next time I wont be so embarrassed to speak up :P

I can always count on Artie's when it comes to delivering a consistently delicious meal. Consistency is key to any successful restaurant and Artie's by far is one of the only restaurants that seems to deliver every single time! Brunch, is hands-down my favorite meal of the day, and whether it be the "Bubble & Squeak" or the "Brioche French Toast with Bacon and Eggs, I know my craving for Brunch will be satisfied. The mimosas are made with freshly squeezed O.J. and the bloody marys are REALLY good. Lunch and dinner at Artie's doesn't disappoint either. They offer the same standard fare offered at the other GARs, however, brunch really stands out! The service is always top notch and the servers are always so accommodating!

My wife and I just ate there for the last time. I had the burger. So much salt that I had to stop eating it! Literally COVERED in salt! The onions on top were uncooked like Burger King in the old days! The shoestring fries were what you wouldn't expect at a McDonalds, much less a place of Arties level! My wife's salad advertised almonds and there were none in sight. All in all, $25 for two should have been $7 for two at Burger King and we would have had a MUCH better meal. The water was good, and plenty of it to wash down the grease from the burger.

Bubbles and Squeek all the way. This place is amazing. In case you are wondering what Bubbles and Squeek is... its Artie's brunch sourthern style: poached egg (bubbles) over fried chicken (squeek) over biscuit and southern low country gravy. An absolute hangover cure! ps - don't forget to try the signature french toast, I've never had anything quite like it. almost cake like in texture. delicious.

I've been to Arties on 2 seperate occasions for sat afternoon brunch. Both times were with moderate sized groups, and service was very good. They come out with a plate of starters, that include their(as in great american restaurants chain) famous croissants, as well as some assorted bread/cinnamon rolls. The first time I went I got the french toast, bacon, eggs and home fries. It was delicously large portion. Granted it's pretty simple food, but it was all cooked well. The second time I went I decided to try some other things. I got blue crab fritter appetizer, and an order of sweet potato fries. The blue crab fritter was ok. It was wrapped/fried in thin noodles, which gave it a uniqute and interesting texture, but the flavor of the noodles detracted from the crab in my opinion. The salsa/ginger butter sauce that comes with it helps add flavor, but I was still a little dissapointed with it. The sweet potator fries were pretty good, as expected. The decor is pretty nice inside too. It reminds me of what a ship or boat house would look like. For a weekend brunch, I wouldn't mind coming here again.

I like the set up and decor of Artie's......reminds me of Clyde's in its heyday. The bar is large, rectangular but gets smokey and loud if there is a post-work happy hour going on. Food is meat-oriented and good. As the case with many Great American locations, the parking lot that surrounds the restaurant is an eyesore. Great American must pick these locations because they're cheap (Carlyle is the exception). The bar tenders here are the most attentive I've experienced at any of the Great American spots. Prices are typical for this chain--maybe even a little higher than Sweetwater.

Artie's is one of the better of the GAR chain. I want to say they over a "classier" atmosphere than the others. You'll find older people here at the bar and business types. But fret not this doesn't mean you can't go here and feel just at home. The dining area is dimly lit and the booths lined up against the wall are preferred (windows and light!) The menu is very similar to what you would find at Coastal Flats or Sweet Water, the distinctly popular GAR joints. I would definitely recommend going if you have not already and if you enjoy Sweet Water or Coastal you'll be impressed with Arties for sure.

Since this restaurant is owned by Great American Restaurants group, you pretty much can count on the good ol' American food, decent prices, pleasant atmosphere, and friendly service that are typical of them. The menu is very similar to the other restaurants in the group, and regular standbys such as blue crab fritters, fried calamari, steak salad, baby back ribs, warm flourless chocolate cake, creme brulee, etc. will not disappoint. Thursdays through Saturdays, there is a special, Prime Rib with baked potato, that is very good. This place does take reservations, though on the day we were there for dinner, the hostess could not find my reservation when the first group of people in my party arrived, but she went ahead and seated them anyway. When I arrived, she found my reservation (with the same name that the first group gave!) and told me the rest of the group was not there yet and that they had run out of tables for large groups (despite my having made a reservation), so I was kept waiting in the lounge. This despite the fact that it was a weekday and the restaurant wasn't particularly full. How messed up can one be? In short, good reliable food, lousy hostess. Dock one star for that.

Tring B, hate to break it to you, Artie's is owned by the same people who own Coastal Flats....it's exactly the same type of restaurant, with almost exactly the same menus. My boyfriend worked at Coastal Flats, which is how he found Artie's, since it's the same company. Same bread, same dishes, almost identical menu, same serving style, similar decor...i mean seriously??? how can they seem different? anyway, it's good. lunch, dinner, whatever, it's one of those restaurants with a straight forward menu that everyone can enjoy.

You are NOT the Artie's I thought I knew... If you like Sweetwater Tavern- you'll like Artie's If you like Coastal Flats- you'll like Artie's If you are tired of both... you'll hate Artie's Seriously? Same exact menu, but 7 different restaurant names and all in Northern VA? Great American Restaurant, what have you done to my Artie's? I was introduced to Artie's back in the 90's and it was an eye opening experience to American food. If you are born in an Asian family, you would know that every celebration and family gathering take place at none other, but a chinese restaurant somewhere in Maryland. For us to eat at an american restaurant, it has to be amazing and there, we were introduced to Artie's. 15 years later, i thought it would be fun to do a wedding shower for my sister there, just somewhere that of remind us of our childhood and sure enough, my expectation were shattered as soon as i saw 'Crab Fritter' appear on the menu. And then i went on to read the rest to realize that it was the exact same dishes as Sweetwater Tavern which is only 1 mile away from our house. Worst of all, i made reservation for 12 and when we arrived, they had reserved 2 tables for 6 that are 3 feet apart from each other. We can't even pull tables together because they are bolted down to the floor. Note to self: Always do your research. Overall review to resturants own by Great American Restaurants, Consistently good food and consistently over priced.

I've been fretting over why everyone in the Fairfax area always raves over Artie's. The first time we went there, I was pleased by the semi-upscale decor (something rare to find in the area), and though they offered some decent options on the menu, I was sorely disappointed in the quality based on the price. The service staff was so over-trained I didn't feel like I was interacting with a human, but rather a scripted tv commercial actor. Everything was well-staged but it all felt saccarin. We weren't impressed. Now, ten months after we moved to the area and have tried at least a dozen other restaurants, I get it. There is just nothing like Artie's in this area - oh except for the other GA restaurants that are within a couple miles. I'm in favor of the concept, but some variety would be nice. I'm convinced their menu is so over-priced because they double up on staff and have all kinds of flashy instruments and communication tools. I'm looking for an upscale neighborhood restaurant where the staff isn't plastic and the food has some character. We took my mom there for her birthday when she was visiting because we just couldn't think of anything else decent nearby for that kind of event, and this is why I think Artie's survives. We keep Artie's on our list of "safe yet overpriced" but it certainly isn't a place we would frequent.

Good food, good service but temp controls are all over the map. One minute it's warm then freezing for 30 minutes

Headed out here to bowl, but the place was closed for a league game, so we wandered over to Artie's. The reviews said the place usually had a wait, and I don't wait to give people money, so I was suprised that we actually got in. Front desk was pretty snappy and we were seated in no time. Unfortunately, it was Sunday and brunch time which means if you aren't into brunch, you're pretty much screwed. The server handed us a nine-foot-long brunch menu with 4,987 kinds of eggs which is fine if you're in the mood for eggs but of course I wasn't. I'm rarely in the mood for eggs, let alone brunch, which is French for "taking two good meals and making a lousy, expensive, crowded one." I figured they'd at least have a couple decent sandwiches. All they had was burgers (again, not in a burger mood) and crabcakes. Gave the crabcakes a shot and they were pretty decent. I hate those hockey puck crabcakes that are 93% breading and maybe some crab flecks in it but you're not sure, they might be fake crab or maybe some pieces of shell. These were pretty much NO breading or binder; just a big loose pile of spiced crab falling out the side of a toasted bun like so much crab sloppy joe. Tasty. Particularly after a couple of beers. The frys were shoestrings, which I don't care for, but they weren't too greasy. Everyone else got burgers that were cooked to order, so bonus points for knowing medium from medium-well. The kids' chicken fingers were kinda salty. Service was pleasant, attentive, but not intrusive, and we got in and out in a reasonable amount of time. Seems like you can't really go wrong with a beer and a burger, or the crabcakes, and 4,987 kinds of eggs, if that's what you're into, but next time I'll probably give the Korean places a try unless I'm really feeling like a crab sloppy joe.

Artie's always has good food, hearty portions, and for the quality of the food, a good price.

I ordered the beef ribs and macaroni and cheese. The macaroni and cheese was pretty good but the beef ribs weren't at all. They were much too chewy. Although they fall off the bone they lack flavor and were not tender.

My favorite restaurant. My favorite bar. (Although GAR robotic servers do get on my nerves from time to time... especially the hostess who scream "hello" and "goodbye" in unison.) Only Carlye is as good in the GAR system! Unfortunately, GAR is not gluten free friendly - they foolishly call it "low gluten". :(

Don't let the strip mall location scare you away if from out of town. The food was incredible from the Blue Crab Fritters to the Filet. The smokey flavor of the filet was perfect. All the sauces complemented the food with perfect balance. Great atmosphere and superb service.

I went to Artie's for lunch on Saturday. Delicious! I had a burger and fries. Others at the table had the chowder and chopped salad and an eggs and hash browns dish. We also were served a great bread basket that included carrot bread and biscuits. As good as the food was, the service was better. The waitress answered all of our questions and also talked about the other GAR restaurants when we asked about them. A great experience overall!

I love Sweetwater and Costal Flats. The quality is always excellent, and the service stands up well to massive crowds. We decided to try Arties, expecting pretty much the same. The menu was pretty much the same. The quality was a little lower, but not devastatingly so. The delicious short smoked salmon salad seemed to feature a slightly lower quality piece of fish than at Coastal Flats or Sweetwater. My chicken Cesar was covered with a confusing breading-like substance that erased all possible healthiness from the dish. The biggest problem is I kept wondering what was supposed to be special about Arties. Sweetwater has a beer menu. Coastal Flats has lots of seafood. Arties has....model boats?...a terrible parking lot? I see no reason to choose Arties over it's super-wonderful siblings, unless you are really into model boats.

My first yelp review has to start here because this is my "Go to". Everything here is delicious and service is top notch. Start by always calling ahead, they don't take reservations but they do take "call ahead". If you're a fan of olives, check out their "Dirty Martini", for pre-dinner drink. "Chopped Salad" would have to be my favorite appetizer, any of their "Fresh Fish Special of the Day" is usually my entree and "Old Fashion Banana Pudding" wraps up my night here. Service = teamwork here, so you can ask any staff for anything and you're set.

Very tasty and reasonably priced. The crab cakes were great and so were the daily fish and the mango chicken salad. Very good service too. Parking was even easy. Would have liked a bigger menu.

This is one of those places that you have as regular standby as neighborhood reliables that suit practically most occasions. Like all the other restaurants under the Great American family, the service is consistently excellent every time. Nothing beats friendly, helpful, and considerate staff. In the most positive way, it is like they genetically engineered the ideal wait staff and just clone them. Now on to the food. Like the service, the food is consistently prepared, which is to say it is solid. The menu offers a decent variety to cover most palates but I would certainly like it if they would change up their menu more frequently. Sometimes I feel like I am sitting at one of the other restaurants in the family because the menus sometimes appear to overlap between restaurants.

Great classic contemporary American food. Nice setting and atmoshphere. The wait team is outstanding. Always have been greeted with a smile by one of the hostesses. You can call in advance for preferential seating time to cut down on your wait. The food is delicious here. I love the marinated rib-eye steaks as well as the various fish entrees. The house chop salad is scrumptious. Just a very well run and managed restaurant. Great foof value for the dollar as entrees are priced in the reasonable range. Super desserts top it off. Great for lunch or dinner. Highly recommended.

I know as Yelpers we have refined tastes, high standards, and incredibly good looks. But sometimes (and you can blame it on your foolish friends if you want), you end up headed to the dreaded *chain restaurant*. Seriously though, I'll definitely admit that I like Coastal Flats quite a bit. And I do enjoy an occasional meal at Sweetwater Tavern. As a member of the Great American Restaurants chain, I was expecting the same solid fare from Artie's when we stopped in before going to the bowling alley in the same shopping center. We were first surprised by the long wait on a Wednesday night, but since we were short on nearby options, we stuck it out with Artie's. I took note that the menu looked pretty similar to the other GARs so I thought the meal should be just fine. My friend, mostly kidding around, inquired why out of the four soups, that day's soup (the New England Clam Chowder if you must ask) was the only one offered only once a week (the other three were the soup du jours for two jours). He simply wanted to know if that was a B level soup, compared to the others' A rating. After a few laughs and many assurances that this was an A+ soup (compared to the other A++ scores of course), three out of the four of us ordered the clam chowder. Big mistake. It was way too salty and honestly didn't taste like any clam chowder any of us had ever had... and it wasn't an improvement either. My Mango Chicken Salad just wasn't as good as when I've had it at Coastal Flats. Coastal Flats will never skimp on dressing, but this salad was completely drenched and the pieces of chicken were really unappetizing. If you're stuck in Fairfax and you haven't eaten in several days, I might head to Artie's. But if you have the misfortune to be there on a Wednesday, do not order the New England Clam Chowder.

There is no reason not to give this restaurant any less than 5 stars. The food is always good, a solid brunch, and attentive staff...all the time. It is a consistent product and teamwork at it's finest. A few of the best things to get: Apps: Tex Mex Eggrolls, Lobster Bisque Brunch: Steak and Eggs, Crab Cakes Meals: Chicken Fingers, Jambalaya Pasta, Salmon, and Grilled Cheese. Whenever you are in Fairfax and need a good meal....this is the place to go.

What a fantastic restaurant. A reservation is a must for peak times as it can get quite busy, but this place can be enjoyed for any occasion. As part of the Great American Restaurant chains, this one sets itself a part. Per the usual, the round rolls are excellent and it's very easy to fill yourself up on these. For brunch they coat them with sugar and cinnamon...omg... The servers I've encountered have been personable, professional, and helpful for recommendations. The atmosphere is great as it has an elegant nautical theme. On top of the excellent food and great atmosphere the prices weren't over the top. The dishes I have tried: pecan crusted white fish with lemon caper sauce (I forget which one since I didn't order it) - moist, flavorful, delicious. Highly recommended. baby back ribs - the tender, delicious meat fell off the bones. The sauce was traditional and not overpowering as to take away from the flavor of the meat. Mac and cheese - whoa...extremely good with a crunchy topping since they bake it. Mashed Cauliflower - lighter and excellent substitute for mashed potatoes Blue Crab Fritters - excellent, but only 3 come in an appetizer. With the amount of crab you get I'm not surprised. Wall-priced for a 2-person split. Bubble & Squeak - I replaced the poached eggs with scrambled, but these were well prepared. The fried chicken was tender and juicy. The portion was perfect.

I'm definitely not a fan of chain restaurants but this one was pretty decent. Ambiance: Clean, cozy, simple decor like other Great American Restaurants. I noticed that there were a lot of old ppl when we went. Food: Fried calamari appetizer was fine- just like Coastal's. Crab cake & filet mignon dish & flounder dish were both great. We tried the flourless chocolate cake and liked it. Service: Our waitress was extremely attentive and nice :)

I celebrated a birthday here. The food was good and the price wasn't bad. I can't give this place a 5th star, who ever can. The 12 year old server lacked a lot of experience and table manner that I have grown to love in DC restaurants. Some people ripped this place in previous post. In fact when I logged in to post about this place someone had given a poor review. Once again I had a much different experience than most others. It must be something in the company I am taking with me. I must say you need to take someone that you enjoy the conversation with and some of the service problems will go away. I also made reservations and showed up exactly on time. We walked in right past the line and was seated. A must if you know you are going. As far as the dishes we order. We had Salmon and Pork Tenderloin. I tried both and they were good. When I go back I am sure to have the pork again. It was delicious. The salmon was OK too. I also recommend not getting the Parmesan mashed potatoes and substitute a loaded baked potato. For an appitizer don't get one. Just ask for a second serving of the Bread. They are some sort of fried dough balls with a good butter for spreading. It is the same rolls from Coastal Flats. This may not be the best restaurant in the are but I will definetly go again.

Very enjoyable, service was excellent. I had the crab imperial appetizer, which was good except I'm not sure I liked the bread crumb topping. Crab cakes came with the same bread crumb coating and was very runny inside. I'm used to crab cakes that are a little more solid. Still tasted good, though, and I would definitely go back.

The Great American chain of restaurants are essentially all the same. That being said, I'm not a big fan of Artie's. I'll give it credit though, a lot of people do like it as waiting times for tables can often exceed an hour if you go there on a Thursday, Friday, or Saturday night. I have had the prime rib and some of the fish dishes. The prime rib was decent but definitely not worth what I paid. I think that many of the dishes are overpriced. I was not impressed by anything I ate here and agree with some of the reviews that say the food is forgettable. My parents are big fans of the bread here although, the bread can be found at the other Great American restaurants. This is a good family restaurant but good luck finding parking during dinner hours especially since they share parking with a bowling alley.

I went to Arties for the first time tonight and i have to admit i was somewhat disapointed. I work down the street from it and have always heard people brag. But then i went and i was like "eh". I felt it was slightly overpriced. I got a steak salad which was $15, which i attributed to the fact it dig have a nice big piece of sirloin on it. However, the salad itself was somewhat small and I easily finished it before my friend really got into his steak. We ordered an appetizer (brushetta.. the special) and while good, i guess i just expected it to be better. I didn't even really enjoy the strawberry shortcake i had for desert. The strawberries were really syrupy and not at all fresh (well i guess it isn't strawberry season). I honestly think i'd rather pay a little less and hit up one of the other Great American restaurants like Coastal Flats or Sweet Water. Not that i'm really into them either. But overall, the food was ok, the service was ok, but i was really somewhat disappointed.

I went to eat at the bar with a buddy. We both had a glass of wine, which they serve in stemless glasses, not a fan. I had the filet and crabcake. The filet was cooked as ordered but was a little on the not so warm side. The crabcake had a nice breaded crust on top but the meat was darker than most crabcakes I have seen. The sauce is not so bad. I think the meals here are a little over priced for the quality. The service however is really good and the staff all look very clean. Deffinatley one of the better places to dine in Fairfax City but overall is just average.

Worst experience I've ever had in a restaurant. A friend of mine had just driven 4 hours into town and we decided to grab a drink and some food at Artie's, since I live in the area but had never tried it and it still seemed hoppin even though it was 9:30pm. We both ordered a cocktail which was good but nothing special. I had eaten dinner but my friend had not, so she ordered soup and I ordered fries. I asked our server if it was possible to get cheese added to my fries. She said of course that was no problem. However, after we received our food her manager or another server angrily reprimanded her for allowing me to order cheese fries (since it was not on the menu?) Maybe they thought I couldn't hear them but they were just two tables away from me... Then it got even better. About ten minutes later our server returned and asked me if I came to the establishment often. When I said I had never been she informed me (very irritatingly) that if I ever come back I shouldn't bother ordering cheese on my fries ever again because she got in trouble for allowing it. She also informed me that I shouldn't "get upset or anything." Needless to say, the rest of our meal was incredibly uncomfortable. I have no idea what happened back in the kitchen to make our server so upset, but she took it out on my friend and me. I thought maybe she was irritated that we did not order full meals but our tab was actually the same prices or more than a full meal since we had ordered cocktails. If I had known ordering cheese on my fries would be such a huge inconvenience, I would never have asked. We paid and left a good tip but I will NEVER return to Artie's again.

Sometimes you just want to go somewhere that you know will be a guarenteed good meal. Arties is my favorite from the Great American Restaurants. Probably my favorite place for brunch too. The service is wonderful and the food is always consistent and very yummy! Start off w/ the blue crab fritters or lobster bisque. I love all their salads. The buttermilk herb dressing they use on their chopped salad is delish. Or get the warm goat cheese salad & spiced pecans or salmon salad (don't forget the goat cheese for an extra $1). My fave brunch items are the french toast or crab cakes w/ poached eggs & hollandais. And of course.....warm flourless chocolate waffle for dessert. Yum yum yum.

Awesome place. Great bread when you first sit down. I always order the prime rib because it is amazingly good. Slow roasted and oh so juicy. The other items on the menu are terrific, as well. Love all the Great American Restaurants. This place doesn't disappoint.

Terrible experience. Our son is allergic to dairy products, so we are always very careful to clarify that with the server before we order. The server assured us that the dish we ordered for him contained no butter or milk products, and then assured us again, directly, when the meal was served, that it was safe. Only after we had stared to eat did the manager come out to let us know that no, in fact, the dish was not safe for him. Too late! We had to administer an emergency dose of medication there in the restaurant. To his credit, the manager immediately offered to comp our meal. Nonetheless, this was an inexcusable lack of attention to detail--indeed an outright lie--by the server. Naturally we will never eat at Arties again. By the way, the food is not really that great--standard "New American" fare, nothing you couldn't get in a shopping mall chain. Even free, the meal was not worth the experience. Avoid!

Great food, in a great atmosphere with exceptional service. If you go for brunch on sunday i would highly recommend the bubble and squeak. Buttermilk biscuits topped with fried chicken and a generous helping of country style sausage gravy... damn! Also, their burgers, which go for a reasonable $9, are well seasoned and cooked to your liking. So why only four stars? The food is delicious but you can tell that they are liberal in their use of butter, oil and other fats. Also while some of the meals are a great value, others seem overpriced for what you receive. Overall: 4 Food: 4 Ambiance: 4 Service: 5 Value: 4

I would maybe even give this place 4.5 stars. A wide variety of choices on the menu - everything from salads, to fish/seafood, to steaks, to chicken tenders. We all enjoyed the our meals. The food is priced anywhere from $12-$30 for an entree. Typical app is about $8 (although they do give you free bread if you opt for that instead). We had the spinach and artichoke dip with chips... highly recommend. The service was just-the-right-amount of attentive. I would recommend making reservations if you plan to eat on a Thursday - Saturday evening.

Artie's has Brunch on Saturday and Sunday and we went on a Saturday. Service was good and friendly. Rolls and bread are excellent - baked by their own bakery. Chopped salad and Burger were also very good as was the bread pudding desert. Manager came over and talked to us for a while. The only caution is that they use a lot of salt - which is great for me because I love salt and the old BP is fine - but watch out.

Three-and-a-half. I've only been here for lunch but based on the reactions from our everyone at our table of four, I'd rate it above Coastal Flats. The menu is fairly expansive and gives tasty fresh "classic American" style (read: "slightly boring") options for just about any diner. The decor inside is very nice and the service was satisfactory - my iced tea was refilled frequently.

Love, love, love Arties. It gets very crowded on the weekends, but that's expected for any good restaurant around the DC metro area. I can't get enough of the chicken and havarti cheese sandwich. It's simple, but amazing. The appetizers are all great as well.

A bit pricey for what you get, but the service is decent and the place is clean. The decor has a nautical theme and it's pretty nice. It's a good date place. It's owned by the American Restaurants chain (Sweetwater Tavern, Silverado, Mike's Grill, Carlyle Grand, etc.). This is not as swanky as Carlyle, but it's pretty similar to Old Ebbitt or Clydes (those aren't owned by the same chain, but they are similar competitors). My husband is allergic to fish, raw eggs, and poultry. What was great is that the server knew exactly what had what in each dish. That was a major plus for us. The menu is heavy on fish, so it was hard for us to have a big selection. The bread they give you is exactly the same as the other restaurants they own, so of course, that was delicious. I ordered the ribs with mashed potatoes and that was quite tasty. My husband had a steak and it was delicious, but quite fatty. His baked potato was great and GIGANTIC. I've been here twice. The other time, my husband had a burger (nothing to brag about), and I had a fish entree which was good, but small. This is probably the best eatery in the Fairfax Circle area, but for the price, I'd drive a few minutes farther to go to Silverado. I can't give it four stars since it's so similar in quality to their other places. If Artie's was tad cheaper (like Silverado/Mike's) and had more selection for our strange dietary needs, we'd probably frequent this place more often because of the service and decor. Expect to spend 18+ per entree here.

We were visiting the area recently and this restaurant was suggested by our hotel.Thank goodness we listened! We went for dinner one night and brunch, both visits were wonderful. We received warm greetings from all the staff and everyone was helpful and attentive. Based on suggestions we tried the Blue Crab fritters..utterly superb! I had the short smoke salmon with Parmesan potatoes and jumbo asparagus. I have never had salmon taste so good! The asparagus was cooked to perfection and the potatoes were like an au gratin. My husband had the pork tenderloin and I tried a bite, delicious as well. For dessert we shared the Old Fashioned Banana Pudding. I thought I had died and gone to heaven. Brunch was on a Saturday, of course we got the fritters again, get the Ozzies in the bread basket..they reminded me of yeast rolls dipped in sugar! I got the french toast with the scrambled eggs, home fries and bacon..comfort food at its best! We will definitely be back!

The Great American restaurants are just plain boring, but Artie's just takes the cake in being plain nasty. Salad was the only thing decent here, and that's being generous. Appetizers are salty, and covered in some kind of heavy mystery sauce or cheese of some kind. I usually always get the shrimp fritters or the ginger shrimp when I go to the Great American restaurants and usually places like Coastal flats or Sweetwater does it well, but both times I ordered from here, it was covered in some strange pink sauce that tasted exactly like canned cheese soup. The ginger shrimp along with the salad underneath it was just drenched. Soups, I suspect, are made of the same kind of slop, as they have that similar "canned" flavor. I ordered the ribs and that was perhaps the worst mistake I've ever made in my life. This meat was literally like a piece of beef jerky smothered in sickening BBQ sauce. It wasn't hanging off the bone because it was in the smoker slowly roasting for hours, it was because it was probably in the back of the fridge somewhere drying out, and nuked in the microwave until was crusty. Not only was this one of the most expensive things on the menu, but there was so little meat that it looked like it had already been eaten. Later that night, I had the worst case of stomach pain. If that weren't enough, the ribs were so nasty that I resorted to picking off other people's plates. The butter chicken and noodles was just a heavy salty mess, the steak was dried and salty (notice a trend), and the chicken sandwich was skimpy, of course salty, and overcooked. The best tasting thing of that night was the pepto bismol I get that fairfax is not exactly the hotspot for out-of-this-world food, but the hype about this place is really disturbing.

I enjoy eating at Arties every time I go. It's owned by the same folks that own Sweatwater, but their atmosphere is more upscale than Sweatwater. I like both, depending on the occasion. I really like their burgers, shoestring fries, sweet potato fries (excellent), ozzie rolls, and chicken paillard. My husband really enjoyed their trout. This is a favorite place for locals. When we moved to the area, people kept telling us we should try Arties.

A frequent patron for a reason. Drinks at the bar are made strong, which I love. Service is always on-point. Food is hearty, tasty, and moderately-priced (for some items). Hostesses always seem to be giggling and talking. Guess they don't take it very seriously (but who would?) Kind of like a half-assed "Take care, thank you for coming in!" But that is really nitpicking.

First timer last night with the wife. Service excellent, nice menu. My meal (filet and crab cake) was perfect. Wife's? Not so much. Mashed potatoes were tasty and hot, her corn was cold and we had to ask to replace it, pork tenderloin was lukewarm. It was a little disappointing but we may try it again.

If you live in Fairfax, and want well-executed steak, pork, or seafood, a good chopped salad, and a decent wine list, this is a dandy choice that works for groups of people your own age, parents, or even the odd business lunch. Unlike others, I pretty much always found Artie's superior to Sweetwater or the other entries in the Great American Restaurants group, but YMMV. The flourless chocolate waffle is a godsend for those of us with a gluten allergy.

I once went to a training program on quality management. The instructor defined benchmarking as "stealing shamelessly." After dinner at Arties on January 15, my experience reminded me of that definition of benchmarking. I've been going to GAR eateries since they had the Fritzbe's chain, which was based on an idea they shamelessly stole from Roy's Place in Gaithersburg. The GAR today is no different. Artie's after all is just a slightly more upscale Fritzbe's, modernized for the times. Nothing stands out because there's nothing remarkable about it. Close your eye's and you could be any Clyde's in DC. Chirpy servers, faux friendly reception, "How are you doing today?"; somewhat bland, but consistent food. It's the Five Guys of mid priced, sit down restaurants. There's nothing wrong with any of that. It's just that I prefer restaurants that at least try sometimes to do something new on their own. Recently a local newspaper reviewed the GAR's latest restaurant, an Italian restaurant. In an interview one of the owners of GAR bragged that they had traveled up and down the east coast eating food in Italian restaurants to get ideas for Ozzie's Place. I'm sure they stole shamelessly from every great Italian place they visited and that worked so hard to define their own menu. Artie's is successfully because its fans know what to expect and that Artie's will deliver. Not the greatest at anything, but good at what they do. My wife had crab cakes and they were just ok. She can do the same at home. I had a broiled rib eye, and it too was ok. Basically Outback quality, but more expensive. The chopped salad was, well, chopped salad with an indifferent slightly sweet dressing. The drinks were good, the wine ok. The service was quick. So I gave it 3 stars. I have no complaints. You won't be disappointed, but it won't be memorable.

Hate to do it but I am dropping Artie's by one star. The last few times I've gone they have had degradations of the great service that I came to expect of this outstanding restaurant. Last time they kept us waiting until very late because they admittedly forgot to seat us. The service manager said they'd "make it up to us" by picking up the cost of appetizers. They didn't do it. On a previous visit our waitress spent the evening hanging out socially with another couple and not coming to us at all -- we had to press into service another passing waiter. This isn't the Artie's standard. The food is still good -- and we'll be back. Maybe they recently hired the wrong service manager.

One of my favorite restaurants in the area. I almost always get the same thing - a chopped salad to share, and the crab cake and filet mignon. The steak melts in your mouth, it's so good. And it's not so much that you feel stuffed after your meal. And the bread...oh, the bread! Cocktails are okay, not much alcohol, though, for the price.

The lobster bisque was very tasty. The baby back ribs were extremely delicious, better than the ribs I had in Raleigh just last week! The chocolate waffle cake is superb. I would definitely drive all the way from Rockville to dine here again.

Love, love, love Great American Restaurants. They never seem to disappoint me. I stumbled upon Brunch at Artie's on accident this past Saturday as my friend and I were looking for lunch. We both got the Sauteed Jumbo Lump Crab Cakes. At market price this March, they were $15 each. Danielle got them with poached eggs, while I went for scrambled egg whites. YUM! I'm obsessed with ozzie rolls, and for brunch, they had them baked with cinnamon and dusted with sugar - possibly better than just the ozzie rolls on their own. I also had a mimosa, and it was amazing. I prefer bellinis generally, but so good. The crab cakes are already a favorite of mine, and they were fantastic with the scrambled eggs. The biscuits are a bit heavy but delish. The home fries are fried, of course, and had onions to go with. Yum, yum, yum. I'm so glad its so close by - definitely will soon become a brunch favorite!

I have gone to Artie's for years! Every time I go it is a wonderful experience! I can tell Great American takes pride in their small touches. I feel the company wants people who dine with them to have an amazing time, from the moment you walk in the doors to the time you leave. Not only are the people who work there on top of things and good at it, but they seem to enjoy their job. Also the most important part is that the food is mouth watering!

I love Arties. It is my favorite of all the Great American Restaurants. It is a gem in a strip mall next to a bowling alley. It does get busy on the weekends so get the call ahead number to put yourself on the list. The only not so great thing I have had here is the crab imperial dip and I don't really remember why I did not like it that much. I almost always get the spinach dip to start with which is really good. They also have amazing crab and corn chowder and new england clam chowder which if I go on the days they have them I usually cave. Yummy! I also almost always get the salmon salad. So good....I also have them add the goat cheese. It is pretty much the same salmon salad as the other Great American Restaurants but I like how they have asparagus and potatoes in them. I do like though that at some of the others (Coastal Flats, Mike's and Carlyle's) you can get warm goat cheese and at Arties it is cold. But good none the less. I also love their pomegranate margaritas. A little small and a little pricey (around $9) but sooooo good. And for desert, if there is room after the appetizer, entree and yummy bread, is the banana pudding. So decadent and you have to share because there is a lot. Overall Arties is a great place for a date or to take family or friends who are in town.

I've always like the food at arties. The staple bread basket with multiple fresh baked bread choices (what are the name of those yummy donut holes, found at the other chains including sweet water and coastel flats?.) The caesar salad is great here and the prime rib (which is first come first serve so it runs out by 8.) The desert are wonderful including my fav, the banana pudding. But they're huge deserts so I suggest sharing. The service has always been prompt and attentive.

I'm going to be completely up-front here: I used to be a manager at this restaurant. But the fact that I've rated it at four stars should tell you something. I've seen every tiny crack in the beautiful facade that is Great American Restaurants. And I'd still eat in every single one of them. Hell, I'd probably eat off the floor in their kitchens. But this isn't so much about hypothetical kitchen-floor dinners, this is about the restaurant. The restaurant is decorated in boathouse style, with superb handmade boat models displayed in cases. Like boats? Ask any staff member-they can get you a "menu" of the boats displayed in the restaurant. The bar is a completely different world from the dining room. Both are great. The bar staff is fun and friendly, and they have a great happy hour on Tuesdays starting at 5...Tiny appetizers!! BBQ Pork Sliders are delicious, and other selections like peel and eat shrimp and buffalo wings also go quickly, so come in early. The dining room can be anything from peaceful to chaotic, depending on the time you choose. Friday or Saturday night? Call ahead, PLEASE. It works, I swear! The staff, from hostesses who will do their best to knock you over with their enthusiastic hello, to the backbreaking team of "tigers" (GAR's term for food runners...the guys/girls in red shirts), to the impressively knowledgeable waitstaff, are all on point. It's a friendly group of people who really care about giving the best service around, not to get tips, but because they believe that if you're doing it, you might as well do it well. The best part, and sadly it appears that the previous reviewer, Stephanie, had an experience to the contrary...but the best part is that if anything is ever wrong, just let them know. The only thing that upsets them is people going home unhappy. I know this wasn't a review about food.... The food is good. It's pretty much the same food as all GAR restaurants (though the pork tenderloin is pretty unique and tastes great!). But the food always tastes better when you know that a) it came from a clean kitchen and b) you're getting some of the best service in town. But again, I'm probably a little biased ;)

I've only been here for brunch a few times but those times the food was always great. I'd definitely comeback for the crab cake eggs benedict. It's good stuff!

You really can't go wrong with GAR's, but some are better than others. A solid, fairly formulaic American restaurant, unfortunately Artie's is the GAR that seems to lag a little behind the others. It's not bad, I'd go again but the place felt a bit tired and blue-haired to me the last time I went.

After a very relaxing vacation in the Bahamas, I flew back late in the evening spent from the flight back and needed a good meal before going home. Stopping at Arties I got their St. Marie Cab Sav and ordered their Short Smoked Salmon Salad with the warm goat cheese elective. It never disappoints and was just right for a late dinner. Great folks and service at the bar and recommend it.

Filet mignon with Caesar salad and mashed potatoes. Excellent meal! Also make sure to try the chocolate waffle for dessert, and swap out vanilla for mint chocolate chip ice cream, it's delicious.

We go here a lot. Too often, probably, considering the price. It's expensive for "contemporary American," which is I guess what they call it. But we usually go for lunch--and somewhere more interesting for dinner (if that is possible in Fairfax). Great American Restaurants, the company that owns this place, Sweetwater, Carlyle, Silverado, Mike's, and I believe that's it, is pretty much a staple for us, especially Artie's and Sweetwater (the latter brews their own [excellent] beer and root beer, but the trade-off in noise makes it generally not worth going to on weekends or weekday nights, unless you sit outside, which is probably not possible at night). But, this review is about Artie's. Artie's is fairly casual for lunch and just a tad less casual for dinner. It's not a great place for babies or whiny kids. Or kids who just scream. Or uncivilized people. The menu is very limited, but the quality of service and consistency of the food is virtually unmatched. I'd describe Artie's, if I had to in a few words, as "upscale, though still casual, American dining." The efficiency with which they conduct their operation is unnerving. Everything is done so efficiently, but they still manage to convey a sense of appreciation for their customers. Every time you walk in, or out, of the restaurant, you're greeted or waved goodbye. Though a seemingly small gesture, when you spend $120 for 3 at dinner (when it was supposed to be just another Friday night dinner), it's certainly beyond palatable. As far as their food, it's great, though as I mentioned earlier, slightly limited in breadth. They have standard American fare, e.g. burgers, pulled-pork sandwiches, chicken tenders, filet mignon/prime rib, salmon, crab cakes, etc. as well as one or two semi-original ideas. Even if it's not the most unique place, everything is executed perfectly. Almost every time. And when it's not, they'll compensate you for the inconvenience to keep you coming back, like any decent restaurant should. The burgers consist of beef that they grind themselves and are excellent. The prime rib and filet mignon are top-notch: but beware, the former is usually gone by 8 PM on weekend nights. The fries are incredible. Everything else is top-notch, too. I could go on and on, since we go there almost every week, it seems: the chicken tenders aren't your average chicken tenders: they're genuinely beer-battered, but not too heavily like most places. Just perfect. They manage not to descend to the level of fast food. I guess I would also supplant my previous description of Artie's by saying Artie's is "American food on crack." And some damn good crack. Couple caveats: 1) They don't give you straws. You have to ask for them. When asked about this inconvenient and simply strange policy, the waiters/waitresses reply, albeit in a friendly tone, "The owners do not believe in straws." That's it. 2) Call ahead, even on weekdays. It's crazy even at 8 PM on a Tuesday, in my experience. And it's loud!

Consistant with other Carlye chains - same atmosphere and ever similar menu. The good thing about this particular location, however, is that its never quite as crowded as other places. Service can be quite lacking at times though. The first time I went there, I almost died from a piece of corn husk in the soup and the waiter/manager were totally incompatent in handling the situation. All I asked for was a refill on my drink after this choking experience and the waiter thought it would be best to serve everyone their waters and me last. This being after asking them to even BRING water 5 times previously. This one bad experience keeps me from coming back often, but I'd still go - just be careful of the soup! Hmm.. maybe that's why its not as crowded?

One of my favorite places to visit on a regular basis. The service and food may not always be outstanding but they are always of high quality. My favorite dishes include their Jambalaya (delicious, spicy, and well portioned) and the Pecan Crusted Trout (a decadently flavored fish with well paired sides and beautiful presentation). Never have I had a bad experience here or at any Great American Restaurant for that matter. Highly Recommended.

My wife and I LOVE Artie's. One of our favorite restaurants in the Fairfax area. The cost of meals is reasonable and the portions are of good size for the money. Their food is first class. We have not had a bad meal with Artie's and we will go there again and again.

Not bad, I'd go again. The prices are in line with everyone else, the portions are fair, the service is fast, the tables spacious. The silverware was not cleaned properly so we ordered water and washed the forks and knifes off. Other than that, it's okay. That's the best I can about it.

I love the Great American Restaurants chain, but Artie's is my least favorite. While they have the look of the restaurants, they do not share the menu items...of the things that I like. The Aussie rolls never disappoint me. The best part of the GAR is the warm goat and spiced pecan salad. Simply, freaking amazing. This salad is priced higher than I would like to pay, but it has never stopped me from ordering it. In addition, I had the pecan trout. More bones in it, than I would like but it was still a decent entree. When I stopped in here, I didn't know they were part of GAR. Sweetwater Tavern or Jacksons is a much better alternative. No doubt.

I'm a big fan of this place. It's fine American dining, but with Outback prices. I've been here a few times, and I'm always blown away by their food. Well most of their food. The steak's a really good quality and cooked perfectly (8 oz filet mignon is only $26 and it comes with sides and bearnaise sauce). I've also had their pecan trout, salmon, shrimp, and crabcakes. The crabcakes weren't great, but considering that my filet mignon (5 oz) / crab cake surf and turf was only $26 with yummy grilled asparagus, I can't really complain. Crabcakes are usually phenomenal or they're okay, and I've really only been to 1 or 2 places where I thought they were phenomenal. I've also had their tenderloin, and that was pretty yummy. Their bread's amazing too - they're more like savory donuts and they give them to you piping hot with really yummy butter. And if you're vegetarian - you'll be pretty happy at this place. My friend ordered the portabello mushroom which is normally served with pasta, but since she was gluten free she had it over salad. It came with roasted red peppers, and I gotta say - it looked really good. I'm normally a meatatarian so it says something when a plate of vegetables looks appetizing to me. It was also a very large portion, and it was delicious. Beer and wines are priced very reasonably, the desserts are really good, and the service is really friendly. I think the same people that own Artie's own Coastal Flats. I'm not usually into American food (especially chain American food), but these restaurants are super yummy.

I think I saw it mentioned in the previous reviews, but when Artie's was first mentioned as a potential diner spot, I thought, man, it's been a long time since I've had some curly fries! Alas, no curly fries nor Arby's sauce was in my future, instead, Artie's, a solid, fairly formulaic American restaurant. Don't get me wrong, I'll never complain about a place like Artie's, it's food is exactly what you think you're going to get, and it's done perfectly, it's just not the kind of place that excites me. One of my first jobs in the F&B world was at a place like this, California Dreaming if you've been to Charleston, and they follow the same playbook here. Big salads, expansive menu of items that runs the gamut from steaks to vegetarian fare. Throw in excellent service, well oiled host staff and you have Artie's. It made me smile when I realized that they had the same 'full hands in' policy we had at CD...we were seated close to the kitchen, and any plate that was even close to being empty was fair game! Anyway, great service, solid if predictable food, and reasonable prices, nothing wrong with Artie's! FYI, don't make a U-turn after leaving the parking lot, they added a friendly $92 to our bill for that little maneuver!!!!

Arties has fantastic service and food. All the way around. Lets start with the call ahead feature. If they are on a wait you are able to place your name on the wait list, in the comfort of your home, and then arrive before your wait is up to get seated. The hostesses are lovely and graceful and very helpful. The server we had was amazing. His name was Alex and he did of great job of explaining the dishes. I have a shellfish allergy and its very hard to find a restaurant that will keep everything separated out and go above and beyond to accommodate me. I am always confident at Arties that nothing is in my dish. He even sent over a manager to reassure me. WOW! I ordered the ribs with mac and cheese. The mac and cheese is a gourmet with breadcrumbs and the ribs...well let me give you tell you. First. I normally don't eat ribs. EVER. Here, I will. I could eat them all day. They are not overly fatty or greasy. The meat is generous and juicy with ample sauce. Overall fantastic experience.

The crab cake Benedict is outstanding! We've had this in many restaurants at many locations near the water but Artie's was one of the best we've ever experienced! The sweet beignets they bring complimentary at the beginning of the meal are decadent, light, and sweet. If you want a hearty breakfast go with the chicken & waffles. The bourbon, maple, bacon syrup makes it unique. Service is friendly and prompt. A must try!

Fan. Tas. Tic. Our dinner was absolutely awesome! Service was fast and friendly, and our wait wasn't nearly as long as expected (doubly surprising on a Friday night!). I got the Lobster Bisque, followed by the Grilled Portobello and Warm Goat Cheese pasta. Came with grilled red/yellow peppers, portobello mushrooms, asparagus, and arugula on a bed of angel hair pasta, along with a pat of crispy, warm goat cheese. Amazing! Garlicky and fresh! My mom got the Pecan Crusted Trout, and she said it was delicious as well. My dad got the Grilled Chicken sandwich and really enjoyed it too! Fun and nautical ambiance, friendly service, and really great food! We'll definitely be back!

We had brunch. We had the same thing, the French toast, so we aren't being as helpful as we could be to you. That said, the French toast was amazeballs. The bacon was so-so, the eggs weren't bad and the American fries were pretty awesome. Nice atmosphere and not bad on price. I would return.

Outstanding service, high quality food, a lovely environment, and a friendly atmosphere. I like the Carlyle Group's restaurants, and this is one of my favorites for lunch. My favorites are the chopped salad and the filet mignon. The filet is expensive, but you absolutely can't go wrong!

Delicious garden burger, very flavorful and no need for a bun (it's kind of fall apart-y which is probably why it's served open faced, but not really a con). Very large and filling. This lunch was reasonably priced. Would love it if Great American Restaurants posted their nutrition information online or in their restaurants for patrons with food allergies... this is 2014?! That's really the only con.

I know I'm not the first to have misunderstood this: At first I thought my mom was saying, "lets go to Arby's!". I had to do a curious double-take, not because I dont like Arby's--I actually do like them--but just I never would expect excitement spewing out of a fast food chain's name. Regardless, clarifications aside, even though I'm not an American food enthusiast I will delightfully enjoy Artie's when I come around to Virginia. This is somewhere where you would consider "gourmet" American food! Totes on-board yo (do you say stuff like this here?!). Food: - Complementary Doughnut Bread: A little basket of doughnut-like textured bread. Very hot but deliciously moist. Totally a fan, especially since it makes quite a unique first impression. Love it. Take them to-go, like we did. My mom is inlove with these - Blue crab fritters ($9). You get three fantastic fritters. Such a delightful and slight Asian flare mixed into them. Crispy outside and comfort inside. Absolutely mouth-watering and perfect for a simple appetizer that just warms you up with a blast of flavors that mixes really well with the inner crab. Awesome. - Louisiana Pasta ($13): Extremely creamy and saturated with sauce. And I'm not kidding about saturation. It screams comfort flavors with the spicy creole cream sauce, but it will mask any other flavors from coming to the surface. The chicken, andouille sausage, tomato, and even scallions get lost in the pasta. If your tastebuds are okay with that, go for it! Wonderfully perfect al dente penne with just the perfect firmness. - Rare Seared Tuna ($17): A crazy concoction of roasted red peppers, arugula, caramelized sweet onion, potatoes, roast mushrooms, goat cheese & black olive vinaigrette. That's somewhat of a funky mixture of ingredients but they play really well together in the light vinaigrette that dances with the base of the dish. It's really light to the senses. The seared tuna comes out fairly rare, so be prepared! Just the outer thin layer is seared, which gives it a special texture but leaves the inner to be very sashimi-esque. I love my fish like that so it was delightful. Be aware that this dish is kind of small in portion compared to some of the other heavier entrees. Also note the goat cheese throws me off, so I put it aside, but if you're into it...then by all means... - BLACKENED PRIME RIB ($31-36) (Thurs, Fri, Sat only): Holy smokes, I dont know how to fully explain the magnitude of this prime rib explosion. Imagine around 32oz of this fatty piece of steak. 1/4 of it is juicy fat and the rest is just heaven mixed in with the fat. Getting it medium rare gives a very thin outer layer of cooked beef and the inner being beautifully rare. Every piece practically leaves you begging for more as the natural flavors allows there to be no need or any other sauces. Dig into your rather well-garnished and buttery baked potato, and you're set. Seriously, even their baked potato is not just any regular baked potato. DO NOT get the Asparagus as a substitute--they only give you three spears. Seriously, three. Pros: - Fantastic quality American food. I'm swoon? - Helpful and courteous staff? Just dont ask complex questions about beer. Our waitress didnt really know what an IPA was and kind of just said whatever...yikes! - Simple interior that shoves in a slight diner feel a few decades back. Still a bit more upscale. Somewhere in between. Cons: - A little pricey, but worth it! - Wait times can be ridiculous apparently. Get reservations if you're coming for dinner! Tips: - Free appetizer next time by filling out a receipt survey? HECK YES. - Make a reservation. Seriously. Oh man, places like this redeems my painful relationship with American food. Totally a moment where they twist my arm and beg me to reevaluate my prejudices. Food coma, here I come!

I love all of the Great American restaurants. Artie's is one of the best. They have the feel like a local spot with an elegant flair. I have enjoyed going to Artie's for years. I most recently discovered their Sunday brunch. It is absolutely delicious! I asked for a table by the window because the light is so much brighter and I prefer to dining in the sunlight. They have plenty of booths and lots of options for brunch. My friend had the prime rib, which was absolutely humongous and amazing. I had the lump crab eggs Benedict, which was also very good. I have always thought of Artie's as a place to go when you want to celebrate something. It just has that class to it and you always leave feeling satisfied and happy. :)

I had lunch on a Friday afternoon with a friend. I got a bit lost coming from Route 50, but eventually found the parking lot to the left of the restaurant (I accidentally went to the right side initially and ended up in some shady Asian underground shopping center and an abandon empty store???). Coming into the restaurant, we were greeted nicely and waited for 15 minutes. Our server was great. He did such a great job presenting the specials of the day that I had to order the fish of the day (Mahi-Mahi), and boy, was it amazing!!! My friend got the Rare Seared Tuna, which melted in your mouth. Overall, great experience and I'll definitely will be coming back.

I have been here several times and never had a bad meal. It is open late, which is a huge plus because my boyfriend and I work late hours and we know we can still come here for a bite. The food is always fresh and well prepared. My favorites are the Portobello & Goat Cheese pasta and the chicken tenders. The desserts are amazing and the appetizers are delicious. The service is attentive and even when busy, makes sure you have water and checks in as they make their rounds. Tonight our server, Hope, was great- our food came out very quickly and exactly as ordered. Very good dining experience. Five stars.

Had lunch there 2 weeks ago, it was fantastic. You don't get a bread basket, you get a basket with nut bread and hot cinnamon doughnuts! Got a bbq cheddar burger, one of the best I have ever had. Can't wait to go back and try other things on the menu. Service was excellent, an army of people kept refilling our iced-tea glasses, even when we weren't thirsty anymore. No fewer than 3 employees thanked us on our way out when we left. Highly recommend if you want casual American food.

Typical Great American Restaurant. Steaming deep fried Ozzie Rolls help tide you over until your entrees arrive. Things you can expect: excellent service, warm and cozy atmosphere, and perfectly prepared steaks. I love that they frequently offer mashed cauliflower in lieu of potatoes, although their loaded baked potato is everything you expect from this category of starch. On Friday and Saturday, they offer a decadent bone-in prime rib. From their daily menu, I can recommend the short smoked salmon salad and the chicken fingers. Wait? Did I just suggest you order chicken fingers at a four star Yelp! establishment? Yes, I did. Lightly hand-battered and succulent, these fingers are what chicken hopes to become. There's always a substantial wait on weekends, so use their phone ahead seating option to skip the lobby wait.

After a long day of errands and sightseeing with a 4 1/2 year old and a 5 1/2 year old, we stopped in for late lunch/snacks. I wanted to hug the hostess when she offered Etch-A-Sketches to the kids. Server was with us promptly and was super helpful taking the kid orders to keep things moving. Food was out quickly and was delicious - portions were a good size, not over the top. Kids loved the chicken fingers. Crab cakes and spring rolls were delicious. Staff was attentive and it made for an awesome afternoon!

By far my FAV brunch place! Service was impeccable from the moment we walked in. Everyone is so cheery and nice! Fresh squeezed grapefruit juice was a perfect balance of sweet and tart! We ordered the Brioche French Toast and Bubble and Squeak. The french toast is the best I've ever eaten! Bubble and Squeak is fried chicken on a biscuit with sausage gravy AND A POACHED EGG!! The ozzie balls that are covered in powdered sugar was a nice "dessert" to our meal! I'm definitely coming here as much as I can to try the other menu items!

Very similar menu to the other GAR restaurants but the service just isn't the same. Been here a few times for dinner and the service was slow. Food was great though as usual. I've been meaning to stop by during brunch for the chicken and waffles. Hopefully things will be better then.

This is our family's go to place for Sunday brunch. Their Sunday offers (crab caks, steak, fried chicken, etc.) are the same every week. I have tried most of the dishes and they are all tasty and freshly made. The pastry that comes before the meal are so delicous. Their hostesss know what they are doing, and always take reservation efficiently and able tell you exactly how long you had to wait, if you call ahead (which is recommended). The wait staff are friendly, attentive and knowledgeable about the menu and specials. The service and the food are constantly great and satisfying.

This place is as YELP as it gets as yelp goes. From their steaks to generous entree salads. The flavors are crazy good, creative and CONSISTENT. The service is consistently execellent, the price points are spot on for the portions and high quality-- probably "very" reasonable considering the portions and quality. I'd recommend reservations a day in advance. Its great for larger parties as well as a table for two.

Long wait. Really loud. Menu is a direct copy of Sweetwater's, right down to the exact same sides, burgers, etc. (It's another one of those meh Great American restaurants.) The service, however, was MUCH faster and better than other GARs I've been to. The decor was also cozier, but the loudness and bustle of Fairfax cougars and silver foxes watered it down. The crab cakes were very, very good. The "Great American" fries were droopy shoestrings. The specialty vegetable of the night was a delicious chipotle grilled corn on the cob. The 'smoked' salmon tasted like gasoline. To me, this place just definitely isn't worth the hassle, and the menu lacks the diversity it needs to bring me back!

As with the other reviews, the food is amazing. So instead, I'll write about the service. The teamwork and professionalism here is unbeatable. Each part of the team we interacted with went above and beyond. This is the standard that all restaurants should compare themselves against. We obviously had a great experience and would recommend to anyone looking for great food and great service.

I haven't been here in a long time but I remember that the food was really good. The only problem was the long wait but I think it was Mother's Day so that is to be expected.

Very solid overall experience Nice vibe quick service and good wait staff Bread was out of this world and overall food quality was solidly above average. Nice range of choices on the menu with good specials. I did find it a bit pricey thou

One of the only Great American places I actually like, great atmosphere and their menus always have a wide variety of items ranging from light to food coma inducing. One of my go-to American restaurants.

Artie's is my favorite brunch place in the area. I love their whole brunch menu! Their squeak and bubble is really good and so is their scramble eggs. Their toasts are great too. I normally get poached egg with the toast. I've been to the place many times and had their poached eggs many times. Most of the time they are good but most recently my poached egg was over cooked. The waiters are very friendly and the restaurant is nice and clean. It can be a good date place. I always bring my friends to this place when they come visit and all of them liked it.

Everything here is delicious but my favorite one is a salad plate which has spiced pecans and warm goat cheese on it. Just heaven in my mouth.

Don't be fooled by the "gluten free" menu. It's not available during the long weekend brunch hours. And Artie's staff explained that nothing on the brunch menu was gluten free except salads.

We are a fan of The Great American restaurants and this one is no exception. Delicious food, great staff, fast but not rushed service. Will definitely come back with the kids. Joe K, kudos for the great service with a smile and the awesome recommendations. Can't wait to try the new Bourbon lemonade.

What can I say about this place that I wouldn't say about all of the "great american restaurants"? It's just amazing. I got the rib eye, and they even blackend it for me! SO SO SO SO SO SO GOOD! And they even have steaks for kids! Great for my family when we come here for lunch or dinnner. The only bad thing I will say is the location isn't the best, the restaurant itself is beautiful inside, and you forget that you're in a gross part of Fairfax. Also, you can only get the Prime Rib on select nights, But besides that, stop by here anytime for a great meal.

This is our absolute favorite restaurant. We consistently go there more than once a week. The service is perfect. The food is amazing 99% of the time. There are times when a dish isn't a fabulous thing that we were expecting, and they always make it right. They have also worked with us for one of our children - our child was getting so picky having eaten there so often. The manager (who knows us) talked with our child to figure out what would be loved and enjoyed. We are now having a wonderful experience for all of us - children too! I have had nearly everything on the menu at this point. I have loved all of it. I have also had most of their specials and loved all but 1 thing - a wild sockeye salmon was just not my cup of tea. My husband and one of my children consistently get the salmon. They love it so much! The staff is extraordinary. I also love love love the fact that they don't do "crayons and a paper color-in" thing for the kids. They offer Etch-a-Sketches! My children love to play on these; one has become incredibly proficient at it now.

I was out in Fairfax with the mom and pops visiting my sister and she took us here for Sunday brunch. I'm a huge fan of brunch, I would give it 3 1/2 stars, but that's not an option... Artie's doesn't have a huge brunch menu, but the food was good enough. There was 6 of us so we got a variety off the menu: -Crab Cake Benedict ($15) This came with biscuits underneath the crabcakes drizzled with hollandaise sauce and potatoes. The crabcakes were pretty meaty! But slightly salty. -BBQ Burger: Mom ordered this and I stole a few sweet potato fries and a bite of her burger, it was really good! This was one of my favorites from Artie's - Havarti Chicken Sandwich: Brother in Law got this and wasn't too impressed. I didn't try it but it looked appetizing... Service was alright. I would want to try their dinner menu next time...

***4 1/2 Stars*** Went back to Artie's for brunch and I am definitely a fan!! I looooved the ozzie cinnamon rolls they started us with. OMG and I did not think it was possible for the ozzie rolls to get more delicious. Great American Restaurants how do you do it??? Can you sell the dough?? Seriously what do I need to do get my hands on the recipe??? Brunch was delicious. Had the French Toast covered with granola. Mmm. Their mimosas aren't bad either. Well done Artie's

Sorry guys, but I have to be the bearer of bad news on this one... We had a group of ten we were seated quickly and our waiter came quickly to tell about the specials. But then we waited 15 min. to get our drinks. And then they didn't come back for 30 MIN to take our orders!!! So we'd been sitting there 45 min. before our orders were taken! Then it took another 30 min to get the food! I don't know that I've ever sat at a restaurant for 1 hour and 15 min. before getting food. It was a bit ridiculous. We got there at 7:00 and didn't leave until 9:15. Wow. The food was fine. My $17 steak salad was much smaller than I expected (I thought it would go for 2 meals...no way!). But it was tasty. Everyone seemed to enjoy their food. Once it finally came.

It's a decent place, but nothing special. The design of the place is wonderful and the service is fantastic! The food however is nothing special. Totally eatable, but as generic as it gets as American Restaurant's go. The menu is also a bit small for my liking as well. Not bad at all, but it's just your average restaurant.

My husband and I tried for the first time today! The restaurant was nice looking and the staff was friendly. We came for brunch and our food was delicious! Large portions - enough to eat twice. The only negative was that our server wasn't very attentive. I would come here again!

Randomly decided to try this place out for dinner Sunday night... I always drove by it but never really had a chance to dine here. I loved the decor inside--very cozy and festive with all the white christmas lights softly lighting the place. I got the roast pork tenderloin and the bf got the baby back ribs... we also got a side of mashed potatoes and some beer. The roast pork tenderloin was really good, but some of the meat was a little too peppery for my taste. Otherwise, the meat was very tender and delicious. The baby back ribs were fantastic as well--the meat literally fell off the bone and the sauce wasn't overly sweet. The mashed potatoes were so-so... I think my experience with Fleming's (amazing) potatoes have completely changed my taste buds for potato dishes... i don't think plain 'ol mashed potatoes will cut it for me anymore haha Our server was very attentive, and she always made sure our glasses were full and she always checked up on us periodically even though she seemed pretty busy with the place being so packed. Overall, it was a great experience and I would definitely go back again!

I've never been disappointed by any of the restaurants in the Great American family. We frequent Artie's and Costal Flats quite a bit because they are the closets to home, work and favorite movie theater. The food is consistent across all the restaurants....consistently delicious that is. My favorite entrees are Artie's brunch crab cakes w/ poached eggs, hollandaise & biscuits and Costal Flat's Hong Kong style sea bass. The blue crab fritters as an appetizer is a must for us. Make sure to save a piece of bread to soak up the remaining lobster ginger butter that comes with the fritters. It's that good.

Went to Artie's for brunch on Saturday and was not blown away at all. I was with a party of seven and made reservations. The waitress was nice enough and even though it was fairly busy our waitress and a co-waitress visited out table frequently. I ordered a mimosa which had too much pulp for me but was still good. They also have the option to add grand marnier which I'm excited to try. I had the BBBC Brioche French Toast with bacon, scrambled eggs, and home fries. (Why they have two different dishes with the same name, I'll never know.) The dish was super stuffed with food and I was worried at first because the French toast looked deep fried or cooked someway I've never seen. This ended up being my favorite part of the meal! It was so good! Soft and tasty! Unfortunately that was where it ended. The bacon was so salty I couldn't finish it - and I love bacon. The scrambled eggs were a little too runny and the fruit they served with it was a little to tart for me. The home fries (just round slices potatoes) were fine but not my favorite. The price was really good in my book. For seven people with drinks was just over $100. Definitely interested in how the dinner scene would look here. (Maybe crowded and noisy?) I will be back sometime in the future as this is one of the few decent places near my house for brunch. But definitely not my new favorite.

Out of all of the Great American Restaurants, this is my least favorite. I don't know what it is. The layout. The people. The food. Maybe a combination of all 3. There's also not a big bar like all the others. It's just not as good as Mike's, Ozzie's, Sweetwater, Coastal Flats and Jackson's. Not recommended. If you are in this area, just go to Mosaic District and eat at Matchbox, Four Sisters and all the new restaurants coming in there. I recommend doing that.

For a chain, this was some of the best food and best service hands down I have experienced. Steak salad, lobster bisque and crab cakes- all delicious! Great Chianti selection - reasonably priced. The server, and food runners were on top of it. We didn't have to ask for anything before magically, it arrived. The Great American restaurants have not forgotten why people go out to eat. Thank you! Great experience.

After a very challenging start of the evening (see my Fairfax Circle Shell review), this is where we were supposed to be, 2 hours late. Food was phenomenal. I had Crusted Trout with chardonnay citrus sauce, lemon dressed arugula and parmesan potatoes. OOohhh so yummy.

We went to Artie's because they were ranked number two on America's Top 10 list of best burgers in Northern VA, and we'd already experienced number one on the list. First things first - If you go to Artie's, don't be turned off by the bland decor, and average family restaurant style atmosphere. It's not overly fancy, and kind of resembles a Denny's or even a larger diner. When we first ordered our food, two cheddar burgers cooked medium, I waited and waited, the review for this place slowly dropping and dropping from the three I'm giving it to a two, and eventually a one in my head. It took about twenty minutes to get our burgers, and when they arrived they were cooked to well done as opposed to medium. That's an amateur mistake, especially for a place that was supposedly ranked number two for best burgers in the area. Fortunately the server was quick to respond when she stopped by and we told her the problem. Not only did she whisk the burgers away, but also informed the manager who immediately came to the table and acknowledged and agreed with the problem. He promised us new burgers in six minutes, and in the meantime even offered us complimentary appetizers while we waited, which we politely declined. Within the six minute time frame we had fresh burgers and fries at our table, all cooked to order, and I'm happy to say it was worth the wait. The burgers were juicy, fresh tasting, seasoned perfectly so that you actually tasted the meat. All of this was sandwiched between a warm, pillow soft fresh baked roll that was just the right size. Had the issues above gone unresolved or cared about, despite how good the food was I would have given Artie's a two star. However, since the staff showed how much they cared that an order was messed up, they get a three from me. Without the issues, I would have gladly given it a four star. We'll be back to Artie's. The burgers are delicious, and they have several other items on their menu that sound just as appealing, but since the burgers are so good, we'll probably get those a few more times before venturing off the beaten path - Or at least I will. I can't speak for the misses. In closing, I will say it was a little disappointing that the manager promised to come back when we received our burgers to ensure all was well, but he never did. Whether he got busy or just forgot, either way, faux pas.

We chose Artie's because of the great Yelp reviews, and we were not disappointed. Although there was a wait, we were seated quicker than expected. The place was still packed at almost 9 pm-always a great sign-and most of the seating was booths-my favorite! The service was fantastic. I never had to ask for a drink refill, and our food came out promptly. The crab cakes were delicious. I tried the Parmesan potatoes because of another reviewer's recommendation and I was not sorry. All in all a great experience!

I came here for my post birthday brunch. I ordered the chicken and waffles and my boyfriend got the filet mignon and eggs. The food was excellent. The waffles came with a delicious maple bacon bourbon syrup, it made the dish. The filet mignon was nice and tender. Service was excellent: the waiter was awesome, he even gave us extra beignets. I will definitely be going back!

I don't think you can beat Artie's, unless you include Mike's, another super GAR restaurant. Artie's is our "go-to" place when we want great food, dependably well cooked, and a place for conversation. Even when Artie's is crowded, you can still hear yourself talk. Lately, we've ordered our drinks and told the waitress we wanted some time before ordering. They have graciously given us the space and time we needed, without rushing us. I love the Salmon, either the short-Salmon or the salad. I could eat it every day, but sometimes Artie's has halibut which is my favorite dish; the rainbow trout is delicious, too. I haven't tried their steaks. Artie's prices are about average now for a decent restaurant, but I usually go there "Dutch" so price is not a big problem. At times, I have eaten at Artie's for New Years Eve, and they have the same menu and service then. It is not a party place. Some tips: normally, I park across the street, as the lot there is mostly empty after 5pm. Also, of course, calling ahead helps with the wait. Then, there's the friendly bar to wile away the time while waiting for a table. Good selection of beers. Note that Artie's is not a well kept secret. I will say Artie's service is quite good. Wait service is not hard to get, and waiters check in frequently. We have asked waiters to give us plenty of time to talk, and they have been very understanding, not rushing us. Kudos!

I took my mother there for brunch yesterday. The food was delicious as usual, but the service we received was terrible. Our waiter was absent for the duration of our meal. He didn't bring us our bread, we had to ask another server for that. This wouldn't have been that big of a deal but all of the surrounding tables had bread. He never asked if we wanted a refill on out drinks. When our food came out, a side my mom ordered was forgotten and a different server went to get it. I was looking around for him and a waiter that wasn't ours came to ask if everything was okay. When it came time to pay the bill, a different server came to pick it up and handed it to our guy. I'm not picky, and I don't expect the sun moon and stars from wait staff, but there are some basic things that should be done, especially if the restaurant isn't packed. I was very disappointed because I've never received service this horrible at any other Great American Restaurant.

Great food!!!! Tried 3 times, LOVE the foods there! They always serve great bread, fresh and hot. Bruch on the weekend is as good of a breakfast as you will ever get. GREAT service!!! Waitresses and waiters there seem to help each other out, that's very convenient for customers yo have their water or coffee refilled. Try this place if you are in town!

4 stars on my first brunch here and apparently I'm not the only one that likes this place. The parking lot was pretty packed as was the restaurant. Service was great and everyone was exceptionally nice and courteous. I've certainly had better Bloody Mary's but I'm not complaining and as for my food, I had the fried chicken with gravy and poached eggs which was perfect! I typically don't care for potatoes but even the home fries were good as they were sliced and fried to a crisp.

There is nothing I hate more than over-priced regular food. If I can get the same taste and quality at Ruby Tuesday, you're doing it wrong. This is how I felt about Arties. Its like they are trying to be fancy, but their food does not live up. It was very crowded at lunch time when we went so we sat at the bar. The bartender was very nice, but I felt the menu had a very limited selection and the food was meh.

I like all the restaurants in this chain, my first being Sweetwater Tavern. I find Artie's has a similar menu with a slightly different flair. I go there every six months or so and have always found the food, service, and ambiance to be of high quality. You can't go wrong with this place.

Since moving to Fairfax, this has become a staple for my husband and I. The food is always good-- I'm never blown away, but always happy with my meal-- and the service is AMAZING. The ozzie rolls are my favorite way to start my meal and the goat cheese spiced pecan salad is my go-to entree at this point. Very good beer and wine list, but the cocktail menu is uninspiring for me-- the drinks described sound extremely sweet and there isn't anything interesting with gin involved. But, like I said, we are regulars now so obviously it's not hurting anything!

Gluten free at its finest. Artie's takes time to review the menu with those requiring gluten-free food, they offer appetizers, a wide variety of entrees, and an amazing chocolate flourless waffle that will make your GF heart pitter-pat. The service is tops, the food's great. Great American Restaurants are really good at offering up gluten free food that's tasty and makes you feel safe eating there.

Arties is close to where my wife works and is one of her favorite restaurants. When we were in Fairfax and looking for a place to eat, she said "Lets go to Arties". We did, and I am so glad we did. I got the pasta with chicken and sausage. WOW, it was great. The bread was great and the salad was fantastic. Along with Good Service, Arties is definitely a 5 starer!!!

Our family has been going to Arties since it opened at least once a week, if not more. The food is phenomenal and the service is wonderful. The Great American Restaurant group has solid systems in place, that is obvious. I ate there yesterday and noticed price increases across the board and my martini glass was smaller! I understand that prices have risen but, nonetheless, I think we'll have to start revisiting how often we dine there now!

Artie's service makes up for its run-of-the-mill menu offerings. A traditional American menu offers little surprised, but can be relied on time and time again. Ambiance: Artie's does a great job of remaining a traditional American tavern without becoming gaudy. Wood finishes line the walls, booths, and abar - while model boats act as accent pieces. It works, but could use an update in my opinion. Food: With a menu lacking any creativity, it's recipes were this restaurant's saving grace. I started with the Field Greens salad. I enjoyed the sun dried cranberries, tomatoes, and dates, but the dressing was a little heavy. I will ask for it on the side next time. For my main, I went with the ribs. Probably not the best choice, but when you have an urge for ribs, you listen to your body. Great choice - well seasoned and perfectly cooked. They fell off the bone. Service: I may have been rough on the atmosphere and menu, but Artie's service was superb. Our waitress was accommodating and attentive. From clearing the discarded straw wrapper to clearing and providing a clean set of utensils - it was over and beyond the type of service I expected from a restaurant in suburban Virginia. Props to the runners as well. A part of "Great American Restaurants" - the parent company - Artie's is a reliable, friendly option for groups, business, celebrations or even just a drink. Loved their house lager!

I really enjoyed my meal here. Unfortunately I went for the breakfast but was late. Damn. I know this place is part of the GAR chain but it was tasty. I hate sweetwater tavern, that place is overpriced and flavorless. Arti's however has more class. Our waitress was extremely attentive to my three kids. The crab fritter appetizer was delicious as was my ahi tuna. I will be back for breakfast.

Pecan-crusted trout. Arties is a restaurant that I go every month or two and I never regret it. The buns are always awesome, the trout is fantastic, and the flourless chocolate waffle is sublime. Their prime rib is incredibly large and well worth the price you pay. Beef ribs are good too. Pork tenderloin is fantastic and delicious, but there are better food selections on the menu. The prices are a smidgen pricy. But their house wines are always very good and you just can't go wrong with any of their food selections. I know quite a few people are entranced with the goat cheese and spiced pecans salad. But seriously. Pecan-crusted trout. If you like fish, why get anything else? Ambiance is great, but it can get really loud. The acoustics of the place just does not tolerate the number of people that this place packs in on a busy night. And it is almost always a busy night.

Artie's is a good, consistent steakhouse. It is one of the more upscale restaurants of Fairfax. The strip mall and parking lot kind of ruin it for me, but if I want a steak or a quiet relaxing dinner, it's a good choice. Probably the best choice out of the not so many restaurant choices of good old Fairfax, VA. I love the fried dough "roll" that they give you in the bread basket. It's like a savory doughnut. Yum.

Favorite of the Great American Restaurants! Since starting with Fritzbe's, now Silverado in 1974, Great American Restaurants, which is comprised of 1) Artie's, 2) Best Buns Bread Company, 3) Carlyle Grand Cafe, 4) Coastal Flats, 5) Jackson's Mighty Fine Food & Lucky Lounge, 6) Mike's American Grill, 7) Ozzie's Corner Italian, 8) Silverado, and 9) Sweetwater Tavern, have been serving up some of the best eats, satisfying service, incredible All-American variety, and great experiences from spirits, starters, meals and desserts. This is not by any means a commercial, but a patron's tribute to what has become 9 fantastic Northern Virginia dining destinations - an achievement few local restaurant chains can brag about. I am sure you'll find something to your liking at any of their locations as I have, and urge you to contribute to this guide. Bon appétit!

Interesting menu, have been here about three times and loved it every time! I especially like the salmon and the bread that is served. The service is friendly and prompt. Haven't been anywhere near the bar, but it was never really loud or noticeable from the seating area.

Artie's is a surprising diamond in the strip mall rough. We went there on a whim one time, and it has remained a local favorite since. Yes it is another one of the Great American Restaurant outposts, but this is my favorite of those I've visited--and it doesn't really have that chain feel. First of all: OZZIES. Seriously. Those little pillowy dough balls they bring before your meal are out of this world. If you ask for extras, your server will happily bring you them--strongly recommend! Their drinks are good. Didn't love their house-made beer, but it was drinkable. Salads are a great portion. I'm not a meat eater, but everyone in the group always loves their steaks--and they get the pork tenderloin if it is still available! I've tried their veggie pasta, which was delicious, but honestly prefer just doing a salad + a potato-type side for my meal. Plus tons of ozzies, of course. We got the banana pudding most recently and it was surprisingly fantastic. Delicious caramel, crunchy graham-cracker-type-topping--I understand why it is so popular! Service is always fantastic--friendly and attentive, without being too overbearing. I always enjoy taking my parents here when they visit--it is nearby, and we happen to have a boat-lover in the group, so the decor is always a hit! Most importantly though, the food covers the range of preferences in our group--a steak lover, a vegetarian, and a picky, doesn't like weird vegetables eater. We've only been there for dinner--eager to check out their brunch!

Love all the Great American places!! This is no different. Gave it 4 stars, cuz the outside area isn't as nice as some of the others. The food/menu is almost the same as the other GAR, but its good-that's why we go!! Also really like the Bar area at Artie's. Not crazy, but classy :)

Wow why did I just find this , thank you Yelp Friends! I would give it five stars but we did not have any spoons ? I really try to be fair in my reviews the service was very good and this was by far the best breakfast I have ever had. I ordered the french toast with eggs and was really surprised with the home fries and fresh fruit on the plate. Very well done and the servers were excellent. I will return maybe for dinner next time.

Since we loved Jackson's so much we decided to eat at Artie's (sister restaurant) and again, really impressed! We had crab cakes with poached eggs, brioche french toast and as a special (recommended) treat, fresh squeezed OJ Mimosa for brunch. It does amaze me to see a restaurant so busy since in AZ this is not a common sight anymore. The decor is unique with a wooden boat theme, very clean and servers are groomed and dressed sharp. Yes! I pay attention to those things! It is not as common as I would like to rave about a restaurant, but I will rave about Artie's, great food and great service! Someone in their corporation knows the right recipe for good business!

Artie's is my favorite brunch place and my family loves going here. The service and food are both consistently excellent. It's part of the Great American family of restaurants, but it is by far the best one. In general, the worst part of my visit is having to decide what to get. All of the seafood on the menu, from the lobster bisque to the fish is prepared perfectly. I'm also a huge fan of the grilled chicken and havarti and the shoestring fries. The toughest part of my brunch-time visits here is deciding between poached eggs with crab cakes and the Brioche French toast with yogurt and granola because both are that amazing. At around $15 a head (without alcohol) It's not cheap, but I have never left there anything but fully satisfied.

I have been here several times, and only once have I had a so-so experience. Too bad that so-so experience was when I brought my boyfriend here to try the food out. Usually, I get the crab cakes and filet, and usually the dish perfect. But that once, they burned the outer filet and it was hard on the outside when usually it should be soft so it was hard to eat. I don't know what was going on there in the kitchen But overall, combining my experiences, (1) the waiters were busy (as usual) but still attended to us (2) the food is mostly consistent, not all the time -- there may be those cases where the food is not up to par (3) price -- typical prices -- bring some more money Overall, a great restaurant.

tl;dr: Good food, good drinks, a little spendy (just barely above Yelp's breakpoint), great service, nice decor, fairly quiet, tight parking (but park down by the bowling alley or on the other side of the stores). We've been there maybe a dozen times, as we live about a mile away. It's one of our "celebration" restaurants. I'm surprised I hadn't Yelped about it before; thought I was just going to post an update about the ribs (see below). But I'll start from scratch. It's one of the "Great American Restaurants" chain, along with Sweetwater Tavern, Mike's American Grill, Coastal Flats, etc., so they have a lot of the menu in common, such as the ribs I so often go for. They have some of their own items, and not some of the other things (such as the wide variety of beers at Sweetwater). The decor is centered around motorboat racing, as practiced in the early to mid 20th century, or at least that's my impression. Apparently, back then it was mainly luxurious-looking but long and low boats, rather than the techno-looking things people race today. So, lots of dark wood, brass, and well-padded leather. Very comfy. The sound is relatively quiet (which, if you've read my other reviews, you know I like), except of course in the bar, where they make several kinds of great martinis. (We took some friends there specifically for that purpose after seeing Julie & Julia.) IIRC I've also had a good mojito there. As mentioned, I like ribs. Artie's has, on Mondays and Tuesdays only, *beef* back ribs, in addition to the usual *baby* back ribs. I wasn't quite sure of the difference, so I asked the waiter... who was quite familiar with the offerings. (You'd think that would be standard, but these day, not everywhere.) Upon hearing his description of that, plus the twice-baked mac & cheese that comes with it, I went for it... and was not in the least disappointed with either! He also knew quite well the seared tuna that my wife was interested in, describing it with what turned out to be perfect accuracy. I also sampled the tuna, and we both liked it very much. The ribs were even more "falling off the bone" than their usual baby-back ribs. I think there was a grand total of one tiny spot where I had to do any more than just lift the bone out of the meat. There seemed to be more of a meaty flavor to them, and I also enjoyed the mustard-based sauce that came with them. The twice-baked mac & cheese was served in a small ceramic dish (there's a name for it but I forget it; the kind you'd expect creme brulee to be made in). It had a crunchy topping of crumbs, which the waiter said was a mix of panko and classic Italian bread. (Remember, the Great American Restaurants chain also owns a very good bread company whose name also escapes me at the moment, so that's another thing these restaurants all share.) The M&C itself was rich and creamy, delicious. The seared tuna was sliced into oval medallions, and arranged around a peaked bed of arugula. The texture was just right, solid enough to give me something to bite into, but then practically melting, almost like sushi. (After all, it pretty much was, in the middle.) The only downsides were that at the beginning, we had a hard time finding a parking spot (very common there), and at the end, we were too full to take advantage of their dessert offerings. The apple/pecan pie a la mode did sound tempting! All in all, GO! If worst comes to worst, pretend you're going to the Home Depot across the street, and suddenly get very hungry. :-)

I've never had a bad experience at a Great American Restaurant (save for the occaisional wait). I got there a little earlier than Pitbull D. and to my surprise, they have Stella Artois on tap! They sat me even though the rest of my party wasn't there yet, which was a huge relief, many places don't do that, and I was not in the mood to bake in the sun or sit in uncomfortable bar stools with my wonky back. The location is alright, but as other reviewers have mentioned, is somewhat randomly placed amungst Korean restaurants and a thrift store. Not a bad thing, just random. The food is always consistently very good, and always give me great ideas for small additions at home (spring onions in coleslaw, and goat cheese with tuna!). I had the rare seared tuna, which was initially thought to be sold out, but our waiter double checked and after I had already ordered something else, he saw the tuna and went ahead and ordered that instead of the Salmon. I was really wanting the Tuna, so I was happy he did that.

I've ridden past this place numerous times and never even knew it! Tucked away on the back side of a shopping center, I had never even noticed it before. Well, now that I know it's there, I won't pass it by again. I arrived for an early lunch and was pleasantly surprised to see that they also served brunch, although I opted for the Mango Chicken salad instead. Excellent choice! Plentiful and fresh, my plate was piled high with lettuce, chunks of grilled chicken breast, mango, spiced pecans, and other goodies, tossed with a lime vinaigrette with buttermilk. Don't let the buttermilk fool you, though, it was actually quite delicious. The server was attentive and efficient, keeping my glass filled with water.

Great service, wonderful decor based on wood-hulled racing boats, and good food. Very family friendly and a hit with my kids. Flexible with changes to the kid's menu items. My only complaint is the frustrating Call Ahead Seating policy with no possibility of making a reservation during peak hours. It's never less than 1 hour or more wait for call ahead seating, so I have to set an alarm to go off prior to seeking to go to dinner and call ahead. Argh. Dozens of times I've gone elsewhere due to this practice.

This Artie's is pretty tasty and the service is almost always friendly and helpful. I don't know for sure, but I feel like their menu constantly shrinks though, I feel like every time I have gone, something has been removed from the menu. Also make sure you know what time lunch starts, because they serve breakfast/brunch pretty late into the day. Their other chains, Coastal Flats and Ozzies are also worth checking out.

I've never had a bad meal at Artie's! Recently tried the Mango Chicken salad with the two dressings. Since I'd never had it before, I had them put the two dressings on the side and I tried them separately. Both delicious. Then I poured both on the salad and the combination was wonderful. There's a little heat in the vinaigrette which goes so well with the cool buttermilk dressing.

Fantastic restaurant, all around. Great team service, your glass almost never goes empty, and the food is killer. Amazing calamari & spin-dip apps. Delicious steaks and chicken dishes-- a personal fave that's not always listed on the menu-- 5 oz. filet cut into tips over penne pasta with tequila lime cream sauce. Mmmm mouth watering. Don't miss out on the white chocolate bread pudding either. ALSO, BRUNCH on Saturdays and Sundays has crabcakes eggs benedict-- the hollandaise over perfect crabcakes over biscuits? I can't even think about it without getting hungry. The Great American Restaurant chain has got it down.

It has been a few months since I visited and can't remember much but... I had a medium-rare 24ounze PRIME RIB and it was damn good. I can't even remember the sides. All I remember is that cut of meat was 2" thick with great flavor and juicy. As some say, this is just another American restaurant but with better food. I'd go back, if I wasn't 3,000miles away.

The brunch is always delicious! I've tried the Bubble & Squeak, Brioche french toast, Crab fritters, burgers, and sandwiches. I don't have a complaint in the world! The drinks are pretty good, and they have a decent wine list. I love coming here! Service is great. Highly recommend.

One of my favorite restaurants of all time. The menu doesn't change often, but what Artie's does, it does it well. Between the great team service, the fresh ozzie rolls, lobster bisque, calamari, filet tips (at a steal-- 5 oz. filet over pasta with tequila lime cream for $15), their unusual but delicious tempura chicken tenders, their unique and filling salads (I recommend boathouse steak or mango chicken, or soup & warm goat cheese & spiced pecan salad), and last but not least-- the WHITE CHOCOLATE BREAD PUDDING. Oh man, my mouth is watering. Make sure to call ahead, as there can be a bit of a wait in the evenings. Overall, a great spot for a work luncheon, a casual date, or dinner with family. I love Artie's.

Superb service here every time. I can always count on this place to consistently provide top-notch service. When a server stops to take my straw-wrapping then I have to commend the service. Side Notes: Great place for a business lunch The variety of rolls to start are all good and yummy and im sure very bad for me Love the crabcakes

Went here for a BDAY. They don't take reservations between certain hours but do along you to call ahead to put your name on the list. After we arrived, the place was full but it was a 15 minute wait. The service is good. As for the food, it was fantastic. I got the crab cake with steak. The other people in my group got the tenderloin pork and Cajun pasta. We all shared a bit of our dishes to sample it. Forgot to mention the appetizer, the calamari was good and the sauce it came with complimented well.

The french toast was so mmm, mmm good! Made with thick pieces of brioche bread crusted with crunchy stuff. So delicious. This place is super casual with very friendly staff. This would be a great place to bring friends and family for a comfy casual brunch.

I always look for good...GREAT food rather than fancy, pricey, not so good food. this place was a total disappointment. My coworker had recomended this place for brunch so one Sunday, I came here with some friends and we were all pretty disappointed. I really can not understand what the hype is all about. I ordered BBBC Brioche French Toast with fruits and yogurt... totally could have made it at my house. Not moist and fluffy like I would expect a french toast to be but rather dry and plain. My friends ordered steak and eggs and they were disappointed as well. Definetly not worth the price. waayyyyy over priced in my opinion. The server was okay...I wouldn't say he was bad nor good. The brunch experience was such a disappointment that I dont think I would be returning for another meal here again...

This is my least favorite GAR. Sweetwater is my fav. We were looking for an afternoon meal, after having an very early breakfast. We sat in the bar and given brunch menus. I asked for a regular menu and was told they only serve brunch on Sundays. Strange, really all day? I ordered a mimosa and my hubby ordered a beer. Mimosa was good because fresh squeezed OJ, for $6, worth it. They pour a little more sparkling wine but for $6 ok... So my hubby got the steak salad($16) and I got the special crab cake meal($15). The crab cake sits on a biscuit and is topped with a pouched egg. Honestly, I could not taste or find the crab cake. My husbands steak salad had 4 slices of steak, I kid not. We were also told that Artie's had the very best brunch in NOVA. Ok, I don't who gave them that impression, wrong. We don't recommend this place for brunch.

Amazing giant crab cakes and some of the best wait service I've ever had. I would probably become a regular if I lived near here. It's not cheap, but you definitely get what you pay for. Go here when you want a treat & to be treated like a king. The staff really believes in the quality of the food which is refreshing.

I can only speak for the brunch because I haven't been here for any other time of the day. and wow! Let's just say, I will be back! The bubble and squeak is delicious and I could eat it every day for the rest of my life. The eggs and french toast are also phenomenal. The free bread before you're meal is definitely amazing enough to rave about. Cinnamon sugar covered Ozzie's= amazinggg. I don't get how all of the Great American Restaurants have such ridiculously amazing bread! Service was great as well. Its not cheap, but its well worth it. Can't wait to come back to try out dinner. I'm sure it will be just as fulfilling as brunch!

Great American restaurants never cease to amaze. One of the things I love about GAM's is the service. Our waitress was extremely courteous and attentive. I came here for brunch with my family on Sunday. Due to their call ahead seating serivce, we only had to wait for about 10 mins upon arrival. I had the Bubble and Squeak ... which was two chicken breasts sitting atop of a biscuit, drizzled with low country gravy and topped with a poach egg. Served with a side of potatoes ... delicious! Everyone's portions were pleasingly large. I had a bloody mary with my meal ... it was so-so. The three stars is for a quality meal and service. However, this is probably not my fave out of the Great American restaurants. Coastal Flats would have to be my fave.

Yes, they're busy, and the wait may be long, but it's worth it. The food is good and the service excellent. Overall good value for money. If you want the prime rib, make sure to show up early during the weekend -- it sells out fast. The deep fried rolls are fantastic -- the GAR restaurant chain has their own bakery, and it shows.

3.0-3.5 stars. I came here for a Sunday brunch around 11 AM with no wait, but there were a fair amount of customers. It's not a place to go to if you want a simple pancake & sausages type of meal. The selection is rather limited, but they offered interesting dishes. Started off with mimosa which I would recommend to skip. It was made with a lot of ice, and in a wider bottom rimmed glass which really took away from the cocktail. Banana nut bread and doughnuts that they give you to start were both delicious. 1) Grilled Chicken & Havarti Cheese (with arugula, roasted peppers & mustard mayo on grilled ice box bread): Delicious! It didn't satisfy my brunch craving but it was a good sandwich. For $1 extra, I substituted the fries with portobello mushrooms. LOVED it. It was grilled in some sort of vinegar and seasoned so well. 2) BBBC Brioche French Toast (smoked bacon, scrambled eggs & home fries): The french toast was big, but delicious. It was very thick and fluffy. Home fries were decent. The service was okay, but nothing to compliment on. Decor was simple, all American restaurant.

Artie's is one of my favorite American restaurants in the DC metro region. Part of the local Great American Restaurants chain, Artie's is more semi-upscale family orientated than some of the other other restaurants in the GAR collection. The restaurant itself is on the side of a strip mall with frontage on Old Lee Hwy making it slightly hidden. Inside, the space is warm and inviting and the staff has always been very friendly on every occasion I've visited. The food is classic American done right. There are the classic favorites like burgers and such but also many standouts including the roast pork loin, tender ribs and pecan crusted trout. There is also a good selection of salads and some of the best fries I've had at a sit down restaurant. For dessert be sure to try ot the flourless chocolate waffle; served with ice cream, this is one of the best dessert masterpieces short of going to a French Patisserie. The prices are slightly more expensive than say your everyday TGI Fridays or other massive American chains but it's well worth it. Parking is in the strip mall and is plentiful. Artie's can get crowded so a reservation might be recommended on the weekends but it isn't totally necessary.

Quality and consistency in service and food keeps me coming back every single time. It's a great option when you have guests who need american style food, but you're not into suffering through a sports bar to make everyone happy.

Ugh, I love this place! If this restaurant was cheaper I think I'd only eat out here but it is well worth the price. I love the blue crab fritters and I don't really care for crab but these are just delicious. I always order the ribeye and mixed green salad and both are to die for. I always leave with leftovers and the food is just as good reheated. The service is good and although the restaurant is always busy I've never had to wait that long for a table, even with a somewhat large party. Someone buy me an gift certificate from this place for Christmas, I love this place!

As we approached Artie's for lunch, my heart sunk a bit. First, I knew I was in VA. Secondly, it was kind of an unattractive shopping center, and thirdly, when I entered the decor looked very Americana meat and potatosy. It was packed, but then packed doesn't really tell you much sometimes. Boy, was I wrong - the food was great. Out came the bread basket and the party started right then and there. I continued on to have the goat cheese and spiced pecan salad (they should offer that in entree size as well). My mother and remaining dining companions started on the blue crab fritters which were a huge hit, and continued on to their respective entrees which were raved about. She even brought friends there the following week. While I did not have a chance to try dessert, I can only imagine they're done very well. Just good American cuisine here. In the past, I've hosted many exchange students and struggled on where to take them for American cuisine that's not a Friday's type restaurant or too nouveau at the same time. Somewhere where they can get a sense of the basics done well. This is the spot.

I grew up in Fairfax. Went to the HS nearby. I don't remember what's used to be here before Artie's. I was looking forward to the Prime Rib but it was sold out. That's okay though since they only serve it blacken. The place is very nicely decorated with with Sea/Marine theme. We came late so the wait wasn't long at all. We ordered Blue Crab Fritters and Crab & Corn Chowder for appetizer, my wife ordered the Boat House Steak Salad and I got the Grill Black Angus Rib Eye Steak. The food came out in very good time and all are tasty. The steak is cooked perfectly and very flavorful. Overall, we truly enjoy our food and the atmosphere here. Will definitely come back again earlier next time and try out the Prime Rib.

We love this place, great bar area and a little more refined than silverados or sweetwater. Food is good, atmosphere is more date like - definitely a great place on a Friday after work.

The Ozzie Rolls are delicious. I had the Hickory burger which was pretty darn good. My husband had the Goat Cheese and Asparagus Pasta and liked it as well. Both of our children had the Chicken Fingers (one liked them, one didn't). For dessert we had a Warm Flour-less Waffle (wowza!) and the Banana Pudding (SO GOOD!). The service was great-very attentive and friendly wait staff and the restaurant was clean.

Artie's feels like I'm eating at a grandparent's house. The nautical theme, dark wood, and dim lighting makes me think that there is a cigar room off to the side with a fireplace. But I digress. The fam had dinner here this past weekend. The menu seemed like all the same stuff at the other GAR which was disappointing, but the food was good as usual. I ordered the salmon and asked for the dijon sauce on the side and I liked it better that way. Everyone else ordered either the filet mignon or rib eye, and they all seemed pretty happy with their meal. It's always tough going out with the whole family because of the language barrier, but the waiter was really patient and never looked frustrated which was much appreciated. One thing that is annoying with GAR is their reservation system - they won't take reservations during certain times, like 6 PM when we wanted to have dinner. We had to call ahead before we left the house to see how long the wait was. Usually it's not a problem and they are pretty accurate, but it makes it a little stressful planning-wise when you have to be somewhere after your meal.

This is the best restaurant in the area, hands down. I've been there for brunch, lunch, dinner, happy hour, dessert, etc. The food is absolutely incredible. For brunch, definitely try the Bubble and Squeak. For dinner - we get the Filet and split it between the two of us and it's always plenty. The Ribs are the best we've had outside of Texas. If you happen to be going there right about now (late Spring, early Summer) make sure you try the grilled artichokes. It's not just good - it's amazing, it might be my favorite appetizer on the planet. As for the service... Good restaurants from around the world shoudl send their staff here to train for awhile, seriously. The bartenders (which is honestly where we spend most of our time) are incredible, always remember us, always take care of us and do it with a smile. They're even very friendly with our kids, which is always a big bonus. We love this place, even if it is a little expensive, it's worth every penny.

  • Ryan D.

Artie's is what every restaurant should aspire to be. The food is always top notch and if there is anything wrong the staff will do what ever it takes to fix it and make you happy. They use "team service" here, so you'll never have to wait for your server, anyone will help you, and they tend to hone in on people looking around for a server. The crab cakes are the best I have ever had, all crab meat with as little breading as they can get away with. You have to try the prime rib! Bone in, 24oz, and fricking amazing! A little on the high side for prices, but well worth it.

First time there, won't be the last! Definitely overweighted towards fish, which reduces my choices So had the chicken strips, and wow fantastic tempura battered chicken. Wonder what times they swap menus at, as I was hoping for brunch at 2pm but no joy

WOW...the American restaurants definitely do not disappoint with this location. Part of the Mike's American Restaurants chain, this is def one their best. Had the calamari app last night (amazing!), and the seared rare tuna entree. One of the best fresh tuna entree's I've had. The service at this chain is always spectacular. Absolutely recommend this place - and I'll be back!

Entirely forgettable. Granted, all we had was burgers, but that's why we came here. When the burgers finally came, about half an hour after we ordered, the patties had clearly been allowed to cool down off the griddle at which point the cheese was put on (which caused it not to be melted). Incidentally, the cheese looked like it came out of a bag of Kraft Cheese from the grocery store. The bun quickly fell apart as it had no chance against the grease. The highlight were the shoestring fries, but that's not enough to get us back there again. Especially since our server was not half as good as he seemed to think he was. I had ordered a side of cole slaw and some mayo for the fries. After one reminder he brought the cole slaw but even two more reminders about the mayo did not result in him bringing it out. Average...at best.

One of the Great American Restaurant chain, just like Sweetwater, Jacksons, and Costal Flats. All of them have similar foods, and all of them are great. They aren't as cheap as some places, but it's definitely not expensive. You really can't beat it for the price.

I've eaten here a number of times and prefer dinner to lunch and brunch. Excellent beef and pork tenderloin dishes. The chicken dishes are also very good. I find the seafood I have tried to be good but not great. The sandwiches also fall into the good-not-great bucket. Their salads are also very good, but they got rid of a couple of my wife's favorites a couple of years ago. The desserts are great. I recommend the banana pudding or chocolate waffle. The restaurant is also fine for kids. It does get busy, so expect to wait at peak times.

Yum! Love this place! We make it a habit to take our out of town visitors to this restaurant whenever we can, and head there for date night on our own. The food is flavorful, service is good. The line on the weekend is long but you can call ahead, which cuts off a little time on Thor wait. Ask for lots of extra Ozzie rolls!

Would have been five stars if it wasn't for our hour long wait. Be sure to call ahead if you go! I had the BBQ baby back ribs and they were excellent. Meat fell off of the bones. My fiancé had the rare tuna and that was also amazing. Waiter was very knowledgeable and attentive. Definitely will go back.

Yum, I never knew how great American food was until I ate here. This place has everything: the food, the atmosphere, the service. My family and I began our meal with their free bread basket. To be honest, they were okay tasting, but HEY it's free! Who am I to bargain? We ordered the Grilled Portobellos & Warm Goat Cheese with asparagus, red & yellow peppers & arugula over angel hair. It was simple, yet delicious. The peppers were HUGE and blackened. The mushrooms were full of flavor. THe pasta was light, but that was okay because the other elements of the flat had strong flavor. All this for around 8 dollars at lunch. I think it was one of the cheapest things on the menu. I ordered the cobb salad. What made it over the top was the herb dressing. Man the dressing is to die for. Other than that, the portion was pretty small and the whole salad itself was somewhat ordinary. Fresh greens, though! The crab cake sandwich was very fresh and very good. I don't remember the exact price, but it was reasonable. We got the crab cake with the bun. My sister needed a little carb in her meal. It is served with fries and coleslaw. The youngest person with us ordered the cheeseburger. Nothing too fancy, yet she claims it was delicious. "Better than Mickey D's." She says! How cute :) This place is fabolous. I would come back here again.

Boyfriend loves this place. He was ranting and raving about it since we started dating back in June. The name threw me off. How good could it be sounding like a diner? He was going on and on about their chop salad. I was like, "Babe, its just a salad." Until I ordered one . . . Ok, I have no idea what they put on that salad but its REALLY good! I'm really not that much into salad, honestly, but I would go back just for this salad. You'll damn near lick the plate. I had the chicken sandwich, which was awesome. I took off the arugala because I detest anything green and mushy in my mouth. But the sandwich was good. The fries weren't great. Get another side worth your calories. Boyfriend had filet mignon and crabcake. This time, I was able to taste it (sometimes the food is so good, he doesn't share -- see Baked and Wired review, LOL). The crabcake was delicious. A great experience and I'd recommend it to anyone. We had a nice semi-romantic dinner (there were kids in the place) and I'd go back soon.

GAR, I don't get it. I came here last week for dinner on a Thursday. I just can't believe how loud it was in there. They have the music so loud there that everyone has to shout to be heard at their tables. I couldn't hear my wife who was situated on the other side of a round table. We both commented the next day when we went to a Nats game that it was louder at Arties then during the game. I think I will stick to Sweetwater next time. I guess if you like shouting at your dinner mates then this is the place for you. Coastal flats is pretty much the same thing, way too loud. I could not wait to get out of there it was so unbearable. I guess it works for them because it is always crowded at GAR restaurants. It would be better if the music wasn't so loud so everyone doesn't need to shout. The food at GAR restaurants is all the same for the most part and the service is usually pretty good.

This place is great. Make sure you call ahead for seating. They dont do reservations, but call ahead seating will save you a long wait. Food was awesome. I got a burger & calamari appetizer. Calamari was good. Burger was a little small but great. I would definitely order it again. atmosphere was great. It was perfect for the date night with my wife and would be perfect to bring my kids there too since its nice and loud. In fact, i will be bringing my kids there soon.

I am gluten intolerant so one reason we chose Artie's was because their web site advertised gluten free meal options. I was very disappointed to find they actually have what they call a "low gluten" menu :-/ My two friends loved their meals. Doubt I will eat there again.

Blaaahh...this was our second attempt to come to this restaurant and it wasn't really worth the trip. The first time the wait was really long so we decided to leave. A few months later we finally got the opportunity to come back and I wasn't very impressed. I ordered their crab cakes which were not held together very well and crumbled to pieces the minute you tried to pick it up with your fork. The sauce was not impressive it tasted like thousand island dressing. The seared tuna was cut into large chunks rather than thin slices which is what I would prefer. It wasn't good but it wasn't awful. The best part of the meal for me was the free bread.

The family and I were craving for Artie's famous aussie rolls. So, we head over to Artie's for brunch. No, we didn't go to Artie's just for the aussie rolls! Well, maybe... As always, the aussie rolls were yummy (extra butter is a must!). It just melts in your mouth..ahhh. As for the meal, you can't go wrong with the blackened chicken & caesar salad, grilled filet mignon, or chicken tenders. BTW, the wait staff is really friendly and accommodating. See you next time Artie's...

My family's favorite restaurant. Great food, great drinks, and fast and great service. Food is American, the seafood is great, actually everything I've ordered there is great. Love this place - call ahead for help in getting seated quickly.

Oh Artie's, why oh why must you ruin other restaurants for me. My husband and I eat at a Great American restaurant (GAR) at least 3 times a week and they are always perfectly executed meals. We eat everything from fine dining to fast food, eating out most meals during the week and nothing compares to a GAR. Consistently great food, consistently amazing service and a far better value and experience than most restaurants in any price range. The steak at Artie's is always perfect (and in my opinion better than what you get at The Palm or Morton's), the salad fresh, and the fish moist and tender. The best part is that we can usually get away with spending less than $60 for a fine dining quality meal. It's so good that we have gone for lunch and dinner in the same day (it helps that it is just across the street from our office). Artie's really is the best of all of the Great American restaurants. Thanks for being our favorite spot!

Artie's serves "classic American" cuisine. It's located amongst many Korean restaurants, somewhat randomly. Comically, I've been here twice and forget what I had as an entree each time. I even took photos the first time I was here and I STILL don't remember what I had - it wasn't objectionable, though! I LOVE their tiny sweetbread bun roll thingies. Donut holes? Mmm. Speaking of sweets, their desserts are tasty - I enjoyed their chocolate waffle. Who would have thunk?

I lived in San Francisco for 2 years. I live in New York now. I don't think I've ever been this obsessed with a restaurant. My mom and I discovered this place (thanks, Yelp!) earlier this fall, and we've been back twice already with my sister. We actually find excuses to go to Virginia when we're visiting MD, just so we can come here. Everything we've tried on the menu has been not only good, but often the best version of whatever the dish is that we have ever tried, period. -Crabcake & Filet mignon - this is what we split on our first visit. The jumbo lump crab cakes are the real deal. I'm not big on meat, but the steak melts in your mouth. -Flourless chocolate waffle - perfect dessert. -Crab cake breakfast -Bubble & squeak -Tex Mex eggrolls -Warm goat cheese & spiced pecan salad - My sister got this and it exceeded expectations, the goat cheese is *fried* and creamy, and every other aspect of the salad is delicious (chopped dates!) -Acorn squash ("daily vegetable"). This blew us away - although it was more of a dessert than a vegetable. The squash was roasted to perfection and smothered in cinnamon butter and pecans spiced with cayenne pepper. Amazing. Makes me want to order every random thing on the menu just to see what they come up with. Also, this dish (highlight of our meal) was $3.50. -Homemade ice cream - great flavors (snickerdoodle, fudge/brownie, mint chip). One of my favorite things is the bread basket - the "Ozzie" rolls are incredible, remind me of these delicate donuts we used to make at home, and the other breads they include are exceptional too. As if the food quality wasn't enough to merit a 5-star review, the service is the best I've ever received. The servers all seem to know the history of the place and the methods and ingredients used to prepare each dish (and are happy to chat). And the prices? As someone accustomed to SF & NYC, every time I see the check I want to do a happy dance...

Never had a bad meal. Something quick and light is the chicken havarti sandwich. Something even more awesome and filling is the smoked salmon.

Yes, this is a chain restaurant (the perhaps better known part of the chain is Mikes American). But it's outstanding. The menus are similar from place to place, but each has enough unique dishes to make it a different experience. Service is quite possibly the best I've had in DC, regardless of price range. Yesterday I had the shrimp and mango cocktail appetizer. True, these are DC shrimp, so they aren't really jumbo. But the flavors were outstanding. Served in a cocktail glass, eaten with a fork or spoon. Also had the mango chicken salad. Very, very good. Very fresh, lots of flavor. The salads are huge, so be prepared to either share or take some home. Dining partner had the pecan crusted fish. Outstanding. Lots of flavor, piping hot. All in all just a terrific experience. One note: the little hot rolls they bring to the table before your food are outstanding. Be ready to request more. Some of the pretentious DC restaurants at double the price could learn a thing or two from this place.

GREAT food and terrific service. The interior are casual but very well done as well. I'm a huge fan of the seafood here, but the steaks I've had have also been pretty much perfect. We've had dinner and lunch many times, and never once had there been a dish we'd consider sub-par. As a result, Artie's is very popular and they do not like to take reservations. Crowds are common and significant, and plan on waiting a while for a table even if you "call ahead" to get your name on the list.

Review is for Brunch only: When you first get to this place... the curb appeal isn't the greatest relative to some of the other great american restaurants however the inside is just as nice. One of the reasons I ended up here is because they serve brunch. A lot of the restaurants in the fairfax area didn't have brunch reservations and my parents love brunch and hate waiting. The food itself is great. The bread as others have mentioned is the same high quality Great American Restaurant bread. Their Mimosa's are really good (made with fresh oj) and its def. not something to miss. Their doughnuts are also quite good. If you haven't been to this restaurant yet... go asap :D Great food and great service.

Favorite place to bring guests from out of town, I've easily eaten here 80 times in the last 10 years. Consistently the best service of any of the Great American Restaurants Chain. Food always comes out hot and right after it was cooked, and rarely, if there's ever a problem (undercooked, mixed up order), they fix it, offer to discount it, whatever it takes to make you happy. Their prime rib is the best (but only served Thu-Sun), for me, better than Mike's. Some highlights for me are the Blue crab fritter appetizer, spinach dip, calamari (ask for both sauces) entrees: Chicken Paillard, any fish dish, crab cakes. Most of the salads are really good. Mac & Cheese (which is only available mon-wed), parmesan potatoes. Occasionally they have the crab imperial dip appetizer I like as a special. If there's any single complaint about the food by some friends that I've had, its that the food might be on the salty side, but that's only a minor complaint from friends who are particularly sensitive to salt. For me, its about right. Ossie rolls are fattening, try not to eat too many of them. Always feel good about having eaten here.

Recently went there for brunch with my wife, who eats gluten- free.Though they assured her that they would provide a gluten-free meal, they brought her a salad with croutons on it!The manager was apologetic and gave us a gift certificate to come back.Today we did and we'll never go again. This time the food was ok but the service was awful- didn't bring the ordered items, wouldn't refill the coffee and wouldn't bring more cream. It was bad even for a semi- freebie.NEVER again!

Arties oh where for art thou Aussie buns!!! The Aussie buns are amazing, its as if they sprinkled magic powder on these delicious little buns. the moment they enter my mouth it was as if i entered a fairy tail filled with sugary sweetness. For my entree i ordered the Filet Mignon topped with Hollandaise with home fries and a side of asparagus the Mignon was cooked perfectly as i ordered medium rare. my meal was not ruined as it would've been at the cheesecake factory. the home fries were pretty good too, but not the best I've had. Arties is a quaint little family restaurant that i enjoyed. the service was excellent and very friendly. it was very clean even the bathrooms were very nice. i will be coming back for some Aussie buns so Arties beware i'm coming for your buns!!!!

This place can get busy for breakfast, so leave your name, get a beeper, and expect a wait. For the most point, service is prompt and on point. Waitstaffs are friendly. -Their Aussie Buns and accompanying butter are the bomb diggity! -When in season, a side of broccolini is a must. Asparagus will be its substitute until then. I had the crab cake entree with poached eggs, biscuits and home fries. Personally, I could've done without the biscuits.. but overall, the dish was satisfying.

Artie's graduated to quad-star quality on my second visit. Maybe it's because I avoided the insipid parmesan potatoes. Four of us had lunch there today and all were very happy with the food. Great wait staff. The blue crab fritters were just as good as last time, and the "short smoked" salmon was outstanding. The waiter claimed it would be the best salmon I've ever had in my life and he may well be right. No room for dessert. The wait staff was excellent. If you're there during the day, ask to sit in the front room with the windows.

Had an excellent dinner at Artie's tonight. Baby back ribs were terrific -- better than the ones we had recently at their sister restaurant in Centerville -- Sweetwater Tavern. Also had blackened prime rib. They apologized for being out of the bone in king cut, but the queen cut that they had for $10 less was almost too big to finish. Service was prompt and all cooked to order. Would definitely go back.

Like Arties, entire Great American Restaurant (small) chain is quality across the board - waitstaff, great food and atmosphere. (I eat at at least one several times a month) I've had about 20 meals at Arties specifically and not once a thing wrong. On the contrary, everything has always been teriffic. Last Sunday I went there for brunch the first time and frankly it was fantastic. my girlfriend said it was the best 'eggs' she ever had. The French toast was amazing. If you want a great meal in Fairfax, I highly recommened Arties.

Great place, I love to take my girlfriend there, she thinks they have "the BEST salmon salad" (compared to PJ Skidoos and Clydes). Their prices are great and service is great. Looks like I found a new local place to go! :)

This restaurant has some of the best service ever, even when they're really busy! Everything I've gotten there is very good. I ordered the goat cheese salad and lobster bisque (together as my dinner) and it was a great choice! And their bread... Who serves donut holes in their bread basket? Artie's that's who. They brought our table like 3 baskets they're that good.

So....I've been coming here since I was in high school and no, I am not going to tell you what year I graduated so don't ask or even think it. I absolutely adore this place and it just makes me feel all nice inside. :D And the wait staff is just so wonderfully good at their job. The food is good, I particularly have a soft spot for that Mango Salad thing and that Jambalaya Pasta. YUM. It always hits the spot, and the dessert? Dude. Never leave this place without getting some dessert. I don't care if you're filled up and can barely move. ORDER SOME. Regret? It's not a feeling you ever leave this place with so get to it. ;D

I was in the mood for some sweet potatoe fries, I Yelpd "sweet potatoe fries" and this restaurant popped up. Oh how I wish this place had an ocean view!! The placement of this restaurant is very ODD. It's on the back corner of a strip mall, a couple doors down is some form of goodwill store, but all profits go to INOVA hospital (Odd) and then on the other side of this restaurant is the back side of all the other odd ball shops in this strip mall. Inside is another story, I kind of felt like I was on a ship (hardwood everywhere) and there's photos of ships all over this restaurant. Their bread's yummy, but the butter was even better! I really wanted to order the cobb salad, but the hubby made a good point for me to order something more than a salad for dinner. So I ended up ordering the smoked salmon w/parmesan potatoes and asparagus and he ordered the ahi tuna w/arugula salad and potatoes. I ended up liking my hubbys dish more than mine. My dish was very rich and creamy and his was light and tangy. And of course I ordered a side of sweet potatoe fries, which were perfection! Next time I come here, I'll make sure to come on a mon/tue b/c those are the only days they serve beef bbq ribs: I'd love to try that!

One thing you can say about Great American Restaurants is that they are consistently VERY GOOD to EXCELLENT. Came here after participating in a focus group discussion nearby and had dinner with wife and daughter. We had the crab imperial appetizer, excellent choice. Daughter had the tuna which I tasted and it was over the top. Wife had the crab cakes, portabella mushrooms, and cole slaw. Crab Cakes are flat iron grilled with a bit of bread crumb coating. Very chucky, little filler (I had that entee too). Also good-sized. The portabella mushrooms had a nice salty seasoning, and the cole slaw had a slight kick with spring onions as an ingredient. I had the sweet potato fries. Service was good. Atmosphere is typically noisy for GAR. Parking here is a bit scarce because the strip mall lot is relatively small. Other reviewers rave about the seafood selections and I agree. Next time it will be the salmon or the pecan crusted trout. Grouper was the daily special.

Best. Restaurant. Ever. Wow. Artie's is possibly the perfect restaurant. Only been there for brunch so far, but imagine every meal is just as spectacular. The service is outstanding every time, from every single employee. The hostess genuinely gets to know you before you reach your table. The servers offer genuine opinions, and never forget a request, and customize anything, and will even give you the recipe or secrets for anything you want to know (Why are their scrambled eggs so good and why can't my eggs at home ever come out that good? Same eggs right? Cream cheese. Ahh.). The crab cakes benedict are to kill for. Or die for. Whatever you need to do. The french toast is also right up there. The breads they bring as an appetizer shouldn't be free, but by some glitch in their computer system they are. They're incredible. And they'll bring you as much as you want. The decor is absolutely unique and beautiful, it's clear they put a lot of time and thought into everything from the giant murals to the elaborate woodwork to the boat models to the lighting fixtures. And on top of it all, the prices are reasonable. It almost feels like an honor just to be able to write a review for Artie's. Go there now.

Sometimes it's wonderful - many delicious items, variety. Brunch and steak are great. But service and atmosphere aren't up to the level of the other Great American restaurants. So, it's not my favorite of them.

Our favorite of the Great American Restaurant group. Place stays busy, but earns its keep. Favorites are the crab bisque, the short smoked grilled salmon, and the burgers. Waitstaff is great, as always at the GAR restaurants.

Hot dammit, probably the best salmon I've had in my life. Seared and caramelized on both sides, with a nice smokiness to it from the wood plank they cooked it on. Delicious. Sat at the bar, not too crowded, bartenders were great. Had a beer, relaxed and watched the Nationals game. Food came pretty promptly after I ordered it, and it was delicious. Only problem was the bar started to get pretty crowded, and one of the bartenders had her lunch break. So I was ready to head back but had to wait an extra 15 minutes or so the finish up with the tab. But that salmon. Hot dammit.

Located just off Fairfax Circle & Old Lee Highway (next to a bowling alley in a run-down strip mall), this is a "family-style" restaurant which means be prepared for lots of kids whenever you happen to go (!) I've read maybe a dozen reviews and am in shock since no one has mentioned the most fabulous thing on the menu: the "crab fritters." Now before you get the wrong idea,- these are not deep fried nasties which their name would indicate. They are more like Manna from Heaven! They are light, airy, delicately encrusted (broiled or baked...not sure which) crabmeat morsels with some kind of magical batter (needle -thin baked shavings of dough?) that holds it together but you can't see it and it totally enhances the crabmeat itself! (Note to Yelpers: if anyone knows what or how those light crusty shavings are made,- puhleeez! let me know!) I've never had anything like it and trust me,- they are to die for!!! They come as an appetizer with a most unusual (spicy) sauce which you may want to ask for on the side (instead of providing the back-drop "pool-on-the-platter" as presentation). If these could be duplicated in a classier setting they would easily command double or triple their $16 price (for 3 slightly larger than bite-sized pieces). The rest of the menu was unremarkable. It's American cuisine which you can get at lots of places. (I would compare the "fritters" to the rest of the menu as a shiny new Lamborghini to a parking lot full of Toyota's! ...the "Toy's" are fine but they are not the ultimate TOY if u get my drift!) It is WORTH the trip out to Fairfax just to experience this one perfect creation! (I always get a couple of "to go" orders to enjoy later @ home but nothing beats fresh-from-the-oven!)

This is a place that is close to my office and when I was first hired two years ago my boss took me here for lunch. Classy, as this place is an excellent spot for a business lunch.... The menu is sorted with many different options. I opted for the crab cake sandwich. Wow, was it tasty - cooked to perfection with lettuce and tomato on the side. The staff was very attentive as well. This is the type of place that you would want to bring your family to for a Sunday afternoon brunch. I can see from the other reviews that people think the food is excellent as well. I have got to tell you that it doesn't look like much from the outside with the location being in a run down strip mall but when you get inside the place is nice. It's part of the Great American Restaurant chain which I have had nothing but good experiences with since living in the DMV area. If you're in the Fairfax area, I definitely recommend checking this place out.

My family has been eating at Artie's for years, before the boat-themed remodel. It's our go-to place for a weekend dinner if we can't decide where to go. The food is always solid, fantastic, reasonably priced, consistent and the service is always top-notch. If I want a good steak I'll always pick Artie's over Ruth's Chris or any of the over-priced, over-rated restaurants. We're big fans of the Great American Restaurants. Some people call them a chain, which technically I guess they are since their restaurants are all owned by the same company, but they are nothing like the big, corporate, generic assembly chains like Chilis, Olive Garden, Cheesecake Factory, etc, etc.

I came here for brunch one day. It was my first time here and I was meeting a friend. I ordered chicken tenders and fries. The food is very much like Sweetwater. They are all part of the same chain. Wow... I despise chain restaurants but ... what can you do. My friend picked the place. The chicken tenders were froma tempura batter and lightly seasoned. It is accompanied by cole slaw, shoe string fries, and honey mustard sauce. It''s okay, but not the best I ever had. I hate when they try to make diner food ... 4 star food. Or in this case, three stars. What I enjoyed by the place, it's a nice place. The decor is crisp and clean, and so is the service. It's a nice place to take your family or parents for brunch or dinner. I also appreciated the bread bowl that comes out in the beginning. The two desserts I ordered were the flourless chocolate waffle and the bread pudding. The bread pudding was extremely heavy, but sinfully good. I would have enjoyed it alone with a cup of coffee. The chocolate flourless waffle comes with a scoop of ice-cream and is just like the one at Sweetwater. In short... it's ok. Nicer than your typical breakfast joint in appearence, but when it comes down to flavor... it falls short.

Artie's is an all-around excellent neighborhood restaurant serving fantastic American food. Don't be fooled by the strip mall setting. This is a semi-upscale (but not stuffy) place with great food, great service and great atmosphere. It's part of the "Great American Restaurants" chain, which includes other local spots like Carlyle, Sweetwater Tavern and Coastal Flats. But Artie's has a personality and menu that is all its own. The staff is consistently pleasant, responsive and professional. Whether you're sitting at the bar or at a table with a big group, the staff always seem to be dialed into your needs and on top of their game. The food at Artie's is delicious. The menu is a great blend of fish and meat dishes and everything I've tried at Artie's has been delicious. Portion sizes are quite generous, too. You won't leave feeling hungry. Also -- make sure to save room for dessert. The desserts at this place (the banana creme pudding in particular) are out of this world. Atmosphere-wise, Artie's is cozy and welcoming. It's casual and upscale at the same time, which is really a perfect blend. If you're looking for a nicer place in the Fairfax area, you really can't miss with Artie's.

Last Friday came for an early dinner. This is probably the 3rd time we have had the Blackened Prime Rib (only available on Thurs, Fri & Sat) with the loaded baked potato. It was perfectly medium-rare, as we wanted and a huge piece of bone-in prime rib. Took the leftovers home and have had 4 sandwiches and there is still meat leftover :) Took our time and enjoyed everything, including the field greens salad, which is always a treat ... they put dates in it which is really good and the dressing is terrific. Hubby had the blue cheese on top and it was yummy ...he shared :) No room for dessert but I bet it would be great. Everything is delicious AND the wait staff are always on the ball without being annoying.

I remember the first time I went to Arties, was with my family and relatives. I had gotten the short smoked salmon filet, and it was absolutely delicious! My little cousin had gotten the Grilled Chicken and Harvati cheese sandwhich with arugula, roasted peppers, mustard, mayo, on grilled ice box bread with fries on the side. And it was just as tantalizingly sensational! My dad and uncles/aunts had stuck with the steaks, and I can tell you my mouth was watering.. I'm a fatso, so when I see mouthwatering food in close occupancy, even when I've eaten, I salivate. Did I also mention their breads that come before the meal, with free refills, are just as tasty as the actual order? Their sweet butter cream? I'm going to steal their recipe someday, and make another restaurant called, Marlie's. Right next to Arties, if I ever get the money to do it :(. Our server was attentive, and even when we could clearly tell we came in on a very busy day, made sure to refill our drinks. And when he couldn't, I saw him ask a couple of waiters who weren't busy to help us, so there was definitely some care taken in our table. NOTE: I will say this. Going back to Arties and trying most of their menu, I would recommend you not treat every experience as your last. Arties consistently switches up their menu to serve all palates, and rarely do they ever disappoint. There will be some days where you might feel like it wasn't worth it. And I felt the same way, decided to try them out again after a horrible experience, and from then on it has been great. Only go to Arties for a nice event, its tad pricey, and the portions at times aren't comparable to the money you're throwing down. To those saying, "oh well I could've cooked this better! Or they didn't sear it RIGHT!" If you could've, would've, should've you wouldn't be wasting 12+ on a meal... I don't know, maybe that's just me.

Artie's is a good spot to go for basic All-American fare. We go every now and then and have learned one thing from the experience---go for an early dinner! If you go when it is busy, service is spotty. However, when it is slow, service is attentive without being obtrusive. Last time we were there was for an early Saturday dinner. When we paid the bill, our waiter shook our hands and thanked us for coming. My husband often gets the prime rib. It's 24 ounces but don't let that scare you off. After you remove the bone and fat, it's a more manageable portion. I tend to have either the trout or the salmon. For dessert, we always leave room for the creme brulee. It's not cheap---with a salad, main course, soft drinks and dessert, it can come to $80 or so for two---one reason we don't go very often. One last note---I do like the bread basket at Artie's for the assortment. It's very similar to what is found in other Great American Restaurants. Just be sure to not fill up on the breads or you won't have room for dinner!

Crack-tastic bread. With consistency and flavor that's reminiscent of a donut hole, the bread that they served when I came in with CPIK during Brunch was just...amazing. I would come in just for that. Food was "de-lish". Got the Bubble & Squeak - crispy pan fried chicken breast, poached eggs & low country gravy with homemade biscuits. As a southener, I couldn't be happier. Loved everything on my plate...as did CPIK. We cleaned it out like raving pack animals. As Tracy K notes, it's located in a strip mall on the far left side, almost hidden from view. You definitely have to know where to look, but don't be discouraged. Consistently good, this place wins a 5 star review in my eyes because of the food. Though not terribly expensive, and not exactly cheap ($31 - before tip for 2 entrees and a bloody mary for Brunch)...GARs consistently serve great food and good, down to earth service. Not to mention, their bathrooms are always clean, neatly stocked, and well decorated!

Last night, a friend and I had dinner at Artie's in Fairfax. I suggested it as I am a big fan of the Great American Restaurants chain, but had never been to this particular location. As I arrived at Artie's, I wasn't impressed by the location... it's sort of located behind an old bowling alley, across the street from a McDonalds, etc., but once I was treated to the standard GAR service while waiting for a table inside, I was put to ease with my recommendation. Each GAR restaurant (Mike's American, Coastal Flats, Sweetwater Tavern, Carlyle, etc.) has a few of same items, but each has a different theme. Artie's is a somewhat nautical theme, but not as far as Coastal Flats. Inside is decorated similarly to Mike's American... dark, leather booths, etc. I normally order the sauteed chicken, but chose to go with the pecan crusted trout this time (I don't think I've seen it on the menu at my standard, Mike's American), and it was delicious! The fish was flavorful and cooked just right in a chardonnay sauce. The parmesan potatoes on the side were heavenly! I have never had a dish at a GAR that I didn't like, and this was no exception. My friend had the sauteed chicken, and said that she really liked it. GAR always offers great value on their food. Our meals and a glass of wine each came to $51. Service was great, as always, too. Highly recommend any of the Great American Restaurants.

This was definitely something on a whim. We were in the area and wanted to try some place new. Artie's had some good reviews, so we decided to check it out. Unfortunately, they were serving brunch, so I can't tell you what they serve on the regular menu. But, the brunch was really go and on top of that was the service was on par. They served warm bread. Actually, they were Zepolli and carrot bread. My kid devoured the Zepolli. For starters, I had the lobster bisque and the spinach and artichoke dip. My youngest son love the dip. I guess I have a new way of feed him his veggies. The bisque was above average. It was a good starter. The main course I have the Sauteed Jumbo Lump Crab Cakes. It look like a eggs Benedict dish, but replace the ham and muffin with the crab meat and homemade biscuit. On the side, I had their freshly made cole slaw, which was excellent. My wife had the grilled Salmon with asparagus. The Salmon was fresh, however, it was a little salty for her pallet. Overall, we were pleased with our experience and hope to try the dinner entries the next time we visit.

Three things to note that I found a little misleading in some reviews and pics on the page (& not the fault of the restaurant) : 1. In all fairness we didn't stay to try the menu though we were sure it must be a great brunch venue. 2. We were craving waffles and outdoor sunshiney seating and read a tip to try the flourless waffles and noted a photo that shows a lot of people outside: our assumption was that they had both. 3. In actuality, there is no outdoor seating nor are there waffles except for a chocolate dessert one. Again- I'm sure this is a wonderful brunch spot but just not for a waffle and sunshine on a sunny Sunday type of person. I'll be back when it's a too hot or rainy and I'm craving a crab cake:)

I had the BBQ burger like my previous review and my friend had the salmon. Today's experience was not as good as previous. The burger was pink in the middle when I asked for medium well and the salmon was pretty rare when my friend asked for medium. Prices have also increased again. Service was ok; not spectacular but acceptable. Probably will not be returning on the count of the price. Dependent on my friends' thoughts about going there or not.

A place for everyone. Delicious food, excellent service a great place for a family dinner, romantic night out, or watching the game at a bar. It is absolutely one of my favorite restaurants- totally worth the drive.

Okay. So we went here for my sister's graduation. In one word, fantastic. I had been to Jackson's in Reston and it was fantastic. This was BETTER. I ordered the chicken fingers. There is something about the batter that I cannot even put into words. It is crisp without being crunchy. It's SO GOOD. The string fries were also fantastic (as was their unique honey mustard) and their slaw is always a unique twist (the chives add a nice kick). The service was great as well (our waiter was one of the cheeriest waiters I've ever had).
