Great service! That's the first thing that stuck out to us. The man in charge was the first to greet me at the door & allowed me to look around. He showed me around the restaurant & chatted with me for a few minutes. We decided to eat, so we were sat in a small section with less lighting, but we loved it - it was quiet & private. They weren't very busy, but they had just opened 3 days ago so the word is still getting out. The buffets had quite a bit to offer (Chinese, American, & Japanese). There is a small sushi selection on the buffet also. Over in the adjoining room, there is a hibachi grill. The hibachi is included with the buffet (unless you order filet mignon or lobster tail). You make your plate up with the raw ingredients & they cook it up for you. They also offer dine-in seating on that side where you can order from the menu/sushi bar. The place looks great, very clean! I think they will do very well & we're looking forward to going back again.

Typical Chinese buffet. Been here several times when they first opened with this new name. Food was much better and sushi was kept fresh. Even if they were out of something they would make it right away. Recently they've replaced a lot of their dishes less shrimps and seafood, and old sushi. I won't be back here.

If I would be able to give it 0 stars, I would. When this place first opened it was good. The service and food was fresh, decent quality and tasty. We even started coming here rather than the other Chinese buffet in Culpepr cause it was that much better. I'm not sure what has happened but. The last few times we have dined there the service and the food was awful! The sushi isn't fresh, they barely have a selection anymore, the habachi is often closed, the food isn't all that great anymore, people and cold and rude and to top it off...one of the waitresses were cutting green beans on the front table as we walked in the last time....on the table! That just looked unsanitary and not something I want to see when I walk into a place where I am about to dine. Don't they have a kitchen? The floor was extremely slippery and dirty too. I would have highly recommended this place months ago, but not anymore. If you want decent quality and good sushi go to the Chinese buffet by chilis in culpeper. While they don't have the big selection like ocean buffet, at least the quality of what you get is better.

First, let me preface this by saying that with very few exceptions, I have NEVER liked restaurant buffets. Ninety-nine point nine times out of 100, they're sad (& sometimes poisonous) experiences that I'd rather not re-live. That said, thanks to a couple of reviews here on Yelp, husband & I decided to give this place a try last night. Unfortunately, Ocean Sushi Hibachi Buffet DEFINITELY falls into the 99.9% category. I should have known better when I found out that the owner is the same person who owned the previous Chinese restaurant at this location that we disliked. You can't change quality simply by changing a restaurant's name & venue. We walked into the dimly-lit cavern around 6 p.m. last night. Lots & lots of dark walnut tables & chairs; no decor; no music; no sound whatsoever. There were only 2 other tables taken. When you walk in, they immediately take you to a table, give you some silverware, & that's it. No menu, no mention of pricing (& there are no signs either), no explaining what's what or if a regular sit-down menu is available - NOTHING. Several aisles of the usual long steam tables set up with a "dazzling" array of selections - all incredibly sad-looking. Sushi, your usual Americanized Chinese stuff, clams, mussels, whole crayfish (all swimming in murky liquid), & - oddly enough - cheese pizza & some deplorable-looking "tacos" that have definitely seen better days. Deciding to make the best of it, we started by ordering beverages - water for husband; ice tea for me. The only difference between husband's water & my ice tea was the color. Then we descended on the buffet. I took a tiny bit of several items - 2 pieces of cooked sushi (I wasn't about to eat anything raw here), some "Steak Teriyaki" (this was the best of the bunch), "Seaweed Salad" (bland), "Stuffed Crab" (eh), "General Tso's Chicken" (eh), a fried dumpling filled with mystery meat (double eh), a little "Hot & Sour Soup" (eh), & a "Spring Roll" that, when I bit into it, ran a river of grease down my arm. Husband had a similar plate with similar (if not worse) remarks about them, except for the plate of fresh fruit he had for dessert. It's kinda hard to screw up fresh fruit. I looked at the dessert offerings, but passed. (Will be polite here & not tell you what the vat of chocolate pudding reminded me of. . . .) The service was also a bit disconcerting. All of the waitresses were pale, drawn, & grim - not a smile among them. It gave one the feeling that when they weren't working their shift(s) they were kept chained in a basement somewhere. I've never seen so many servers look so very similarly sad. To add to the festive atmosphere & the quality of the offerings, keep in mind that this was 6 P.M. ON A SATURDAY, & all of the trays (including the soup pots) were more than three-quarters EMPTY. Instead of changing them out or charging them up with fresh food, the waitresses spent their time going up & down each aisle stirring each tray so that its mostly meager contents didn't look dried up. Needless to say, we did NOT go back for any 2nds. Lord only knows how long that food had been sitting there - most likely since they first opened up for lunch service. Our check revealed that this lovely repast was $9.95 per person (no wonder it was so awful - nothing like cutting corners to keep the price low!). While hubby paid the bill, I took a peek into what looked like a deserted back dining room, only to find that this was where the pick-your-own-raw-food hibachi station was hidden. A fact that no one bothered to tell us about, not that we would have tried it. Skimpy trays of raw meat, chicken, & fish; eggs; & vegetables; & one sad-looking "chef" just hanging around doing nothing at the time, although there were 2 tables of people back there eating. In summation, all I can say is NEVER AGAIN. The only good thing I can say about this place is that neither one of us ended up sick as we have from other buffet restaurants.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
