Hamburgers are also categorized into two types in the United States. Fast food hamburger and individual hamburgers served at restaurants are two basic types of burgers served in the United States. The individual hamburgers served at restaurants are prepared using everything including lettuce, onion, tomato, and sliced pickles as well as melted cheese on the patty or crumbled on top. American restaurants also serve veggie burgers for those who don't relish meat. Cheeseburgers are also hot favorite in the United States.
McDonalds is the most popular fast food burger restaurant serving different types of burgers in the United States. Millers has an excellent staff, great prices, and huge local beer selection. I had one of the best burgers cooked exactly as requested, that I've ever tasted. It was so good that I went back the next day to sample their blackened chicken sandwhich which was even better. Local beer selection wasn't too big to be considered overwhelming but big enough were there was plenty of selection. If I had to guess, I'd say there were 30/40+ brews available. Beautiful outdoor seating in the middle of the brick alley, great for people watching (and the people won't dissapoint). Highly recommend Millers!

I really didn't like it the service was ok and I'm allergic to shellfish and when I saw the lobster bisque on the menu it scared me to death
(2)Penelope T.
Third star is for the location and nice wait staff ( Brianna ) but would not recommend this place for food. Hard to mess up a Greek salad but it was appalling. Bottled dressing on wilted romaine with crumbled feta and half an olive (not kidding!)

I been coming to Millers for years. Wait staff that has "I don't want to be here" looks on their face, and seem annoyed that they have to serve you has always been present. Further more you always have to chase the wait staff down to see who is serving your section. All the locals I have known over the years have agreed to this. Yesterday I went there and as usual I had to chase down a waitress. Larrissa gave me a menu and walked by for 30 minutes not asking me if I wanted anything from it before I finally had to leave. She had two other woman helping her wait on like 10 people outside. Rhianna and the new girl. Now it's not any of their faults for real. Millers had this problem for years before any of those women started working there. How can I think it's not management? How can the wait staff be terrible on a consistent basis if Mike ( the one who runs things for the owner) is doing what he is supposed to? I have been friends with a lot of the people to work their and even met and drank with one of the owners a few years back. I hate to say anything bad about Millers. But, come on man. That place has terrible service, and has for years. it's not a club house. Those people are at work. Why do they snub customers like that? I"m a business owner. I know what the deal is. You can't watch everyone all the time. Now you know. Something needs to be done.

Highly recommend the fried green tomato salad. Excellent service and good food. Conveniently located in downtown mall area. Our dog was able to join us and have a fresh bowl of water too. Nice people.
(5)Brian K.
Very cramped bar on the first floor that was crazy packed. Very smokey bar on the top floor with pool tables. Typical cool college type bar. Great selection of beers but I did not have any food. Great people watching.
(3)Kasey S.
Usually we'll come here for burgers and beers and are never disappointed. The special burgers are especially good. But I came here one day and got the crawfish and grits and it was amazing! Plus they have great music (jazz and otherwise) on various nights. Always a joy to come here!
(4)Charlie F.
My band recently came through here on tour. The staff was awesome. They have developed a reputation for live music and attract cool bands, so if you are ever in Charlottesville, try to stop here for a drink.

I've been to Miller's 3 times now for lunch, and while I am no Dave Mathew's fan, Miller's delivers where it counts, with their food. I have not eaten inside or been to Miller's after dark, so my experience is limited to enjoying lunch outside on the mall. As I've noted in past reviews, I love a great sandwich and Miller's does not disappoint in that department. I've also had several of their salads and have nothing but praise. Rounding out the trifecta is the fact that Miller's has a first rate beer list that includes many A players from around the country. If you decide to go, make sure you are hungry because the portions are hearty. Service hasn't always been top shelf, but close enough to average that I have no major gripes. Will definitely eat at Miller's again.

Just ordered two local beers. But a great chat with a new friend.
(3)Barrett H.
This is my go-to bar. Most nights out in Charlottesville begin here. There's a wide range of people that come to Miller's. They probably have the widest selection of beer, wine, and mixed drinks anywhere in town. Anna and Jenna are my favorite bartenders. They always hook treat us well. Halfie hour (some drinks half price) is great if you can make it from 3-7 pm Monday through Friday.
(5)Travis P.
Typical dive bar setting with a lot of live music. It is a great dive bar with a nice beer selection and good bartenders. The bar in very narrow, so it gets crowded quickly and when the bands start, it gets really loud. Great place to grab a beer anytime, just be ready for a potentially rowdy and loud crowd if there is a band. They also have nice outdoor seating here and is a great brunch spot.
(3)Matthew B.
I've only got two things to say. 1. Bourbon specials on Sundays! 2. You forgot to order a table of fours food? We sat their for 20 minutes and you never came and when we asked you when you thought our food would come out, you cowardly walked away and brought our check. I didn't even hear an apology. Really?!?!
(1)Kate W.
I give two stars for the atmosphere, which was not due to the Miller's staff or food. In town for a quick weekend trip, saw conch fritters on the menu and a good beer selection, so decided to try it out. It was a beautiful evening, so had to sit outside. Took a little time, but then ended up on the patio right outside the main door - not ideal, but better than continuing to wait for a table in the middle of the mall. Now, we had no idea that DMB started here...and really doesn't matter. We ordered beers, then when it appeared we wanted to order food, our server got a distressed look on her face and said kitchen time is 45 minutes...sure, we're not in any hurry. So we ordered...and then the fun began...we started chatting with a guy sitting across from us on the patio, nice guy, fun conversation - then his buddies starting coming through...talk of AR-15s, killing girls, 4 Loco, illicit behavior that could be purchased in a phone book...great times! Food finally arrived - it was awful. Server let our beers empty before coming back to get another order. So...if you're looking for good food or good service, this isn't the best bet...but for random/creepy conversations with homeless/drifters - this is the place! I won't go back, but do have the creepy girl killer song videoed for future reference!

Visited 12/16/09 I journeyed to Miller's Downtown as many Dave Matthews fans do, and as other reviews imply, the staff was not eager to discuss the topic. Personally, the entire point to driving the distance was never for a second hand account of Dave's time in the bar, I was in pursuit of a first hand experience in the very space where the genius was realized. I used my imagination to place Dave on the bar's tiny stage, or sitting at the bar sipping Jack, or upstairs (on the third floor) playing a game of pool; this made for a much more rewarding experience, short of the man himself actually showing up. There are no tour guides here, you'll have to guide yourself, and frankly, that's just fine with me. Mid-day, Happy Hour deals for beer and fries. Burger was OK, wings were good. Service was a bit disconnected and confusing .. I couldn't always tell who was working there and who was hanging out. First floor bar, tall table seating, small stage in the very front. Second floor, small room with table seating. Third floor, pool tables with smoking. I will certainly return to Miller's next time I'm in Charlottesville.
(3)Jen M.
In town for a meeting in the spring, a colleague and I wandered around the Pedestrian Mall for somewhere low-key with outdoor seating for late dinner. Great burgers and fries and cold beer. What else could a girl ask for?
(4)Matt D.
Had lunch at Miller's last week while passing through Charlottesville. We sat outside within the pedestrian mall seating area. This is an excellent place to sit outside, people watch and enjoy a great meal. Our server was very friendly and helped walk us through their interesting beer selection. I stuck with a burger while my girlfriend ordered the fried green tomato salad. My burger was simply (as I ordered it) but very good and my girlfriend raved about her salad. Next time we are in Charlottesville we will be sure to stop in!
(4)Dan M.
Had a late lunch here yesterday and it was great. We were looking for a decent outdoor place to eat and this hit the spot. I had the blackened chicken sandwich and it was awesome, loved the jalapeños. Nachos are a really good appetizer (chicken not beef). I would highly recommend giving this place a try if you are looking for a good place to eat outside. Very relaxing. The service is pretty laid back but I would not consider it "bad" service. You just need to relax and not be in a rush. The only criticism I would have is that the first beer I ordered I ultimately found out they did not have. I went with a second choice to find out a little bit later they did not have either. Apparently they have draft beers that they are changing routinely so just be advised and ask your server to make sure they have it. The place is probably not ideal for people who are fussy about their kids but you can make do, they have a couple high chairs and a couple booster seats. There's no kids menu but there are items that can be ordered for them such as chicken tenders, mac and cheese, etc.
(4)Thomas A.
Avoid this place if you care about service. My experience, despite the nice outdoor setting, surly, uniformed, staff and mediocre food. Not worth the wait.
(1)Bob B.
I'm going to give Miller''s 5 stars, not because its perfect -like a Tesla - in every performance metric, but because it is what it is. I've stopped a few times a year since 2011, and I've had a consistently enjoyable experience each visit. Good quality food, especially nice that there are Southern components (Jumbalaya, Grits). Today, on a gorgeous fall afternoon, we enjoyed sitting outside in their patio, people watching - while listening the bubbling fountain within, under the tall trees. The ice cold beers made in perfect. Honestly, the food was more of 3 star in preparation, as both my Jumbalaya and friends Mufelata were "dry". Grits kicked ass. Service a bit slow, but very polite - and I didn't care, perfect setting to relax in. Have enjoyed the bands when I've stopped in at night. Again, the 5 stars are for experience as a whole. It perfectly met my expectations. For those reading this review, and if you like the vibe and food at Miller's - try Davis's Pub if ever in Annapolis. Same type of place, without the bands.
(5)Katherine M.
One of my favorite lunch spots on the downtown mall. This place is always busy, so be prepared to order a beer (or two) before the food arrives. On a nice day, I prefer patio seating - inside can be a bit noisy and cramped, especially in the evenings. Try: Fried Green Tomato Salad, or just come for beer and great live music!
(4)Venerable V.
This place was cool. They definitely had great outdoor seating. Lots of (bottled) beers to choose from and I think it's funny they had complete descriptions of their mixed drinks - down to every ingredient and a graphic of what kind of glass it comes in. I suppose it's helps for the younger, inexperienced college (likely already drunk crowd) who wants to order funny drinks like 'sex on the beach' or a 'fuzzy navel'. Not knocking it, though. Just wanted to chill, have a beer and a fried something to pass the time - chose the jalapeno hush puppies w/ honey and thought they were great. A nice place for sure.
(4)Gaston E.
Zero stars. Went there on a quiet Sunday night recently around 9 while visiting from out of town. Very few people at the bar, but a guy at the bar said the stools were saved. When we sat at a table and told the waitress we weren't eating she rudely told us she needed the table for diners even though there were lots of empty tables. I'll never go back to that crappy place again. Most unfriendly place in Charlottesville and that's saying something!
(1)Mia M.
Great unpretentious bar! I was spending a night in Charlottesville during a road trip and arrived to the town later in the evening. I managed to come in in time for some food before the kitchen closed (at 11). Being that it was a weekday, it was relaxed, low-key, and sprinkled only with a few hipsters and young professionals here and there. It reminded me of places I would hang out with my friends in Brooklyn after work and was a great ending to my day. I actually really appreciate that they don't have any mention of Dave Matthews here. Sure, it's a cool tidbit, but let's not make this place another tourist/douche-trap. People who are really into DMB will probably know about it anyway, and I think it's better to experience it as it probably was when Dave worked there.
(4)Greg M.
Favorite bar on the mall, or immediate vicinity. Excellent beer selection, and specials. (Half price between 8 and 9! can't beat that.) I only deduct a star for the uneven quality of the outdoor service, which can occasionally be great, and other times highly inattentive. (Really, I'm not high-maintenance. But when I order a beer as my hot wings and jalapeno hush puppies arrive, and the beer doesn't arrive until 25 minutes later when I've finished my food, my core temperature has risen to 103 degrees, and I'm seriously considering lapping water from the babbling fountain in the middle of the courtyard like an overheated labrador, well... that particular episode wasn't cool.) Indoors, I've always enjoyed the bar service, music, overall dive-ambiance, and did I mention the beer selection?
(4)Frederick L.
Great place, good music, and great staff (I'm talking about you Anna). I'm new to this place and have already become a big fan. The live bands have been really good the few times I've been there so far, and I have a favorite bartender already. Anna is awesome! UPDATE! The specials are great. My favorite has become the wings. At Happy Hour (3 - 7) the wings are 4 bucks. Since they serve it by weight and not by number of wings, you get a bunch of wings. I think it was about 10 - 12 the last time I had them. I lost count, LOL! they also have halfie hour where the beers are half off. I hit Millers just about every time I am in town and have NEVER been disappointed and don't expect to be. Go there and you will get good food and have a great time!
(5)Chris R.
This was one of the few lively places around the downtown mall at 10:00PM. I'm surprised this area is not bustling in the evenings, but there are a few fun spots. This is a somewhat famous dive due to the fact that Dave Matthews used to bartend here. It's a pretty small place and still has the stale smoke smell left over from the days when you could smoke in doors in Virginia. The prices were good and the people were interesting. They had a live band stuck in the corner of the place that added a cool feel to it, but there is just not much room to move around or get comfortable. Stop by for the nostalgia at least once, but I don't think I would recommend this for a regular hang out.
(3)Chris M.
Miller's sports some slow, slow service -- slow by even Charlottesville standards. But like Rapture, the outdoor seating kept drawing me back... I'm a sucker for drinking outside. Yeah, they've got the DMB history, but they don't flaunt it... in fact, i don't think it's noted anywhere inside the bar. If you're a visitor, don't go expecting to experience some crazy DMB nirvana or something. In fact, if you're a visitor, you shouldn't come here at all, since you just waste the prime people-watching spots. The sandwiches are decent and pretty cheap. But damn, the wait...

I was in Lynchburg this past weekend for a wedding and decided to make a pit stop in Charlottesville for dinner on the way home. After much debate, my guy and I finally decided on Miller's. The menu had a lot of variety (mostly pub food options). I opted for one of the several burgers on the menu, the Not So Veg Burger to be exact. While the name may make it sound like a double bacon cheeseburger hold the vegetables, it's actually a single burger with avocado, tomato, red onion, and cucumbers. The burger was not the best burger I've ever had, a little dry, but all in all, it was pretty tasty (mainly thanks to the avocado!). My guy had the fish and chips and he was very satisfied. Our absolute favorite part of the experience was the outdoor seating area. Miller's is located in the outdoor mall of historic downtown Charlottesville, so no cars are allowed on the street. Miller's has set up seating (along with many other restaurants on this street) in the middle. It reminded me so much of a British beer garden. It was very peaceful and the weather was perfect for outdoor dining. It was definitely a fun experience and made me eager to experience more of Charlottesville!
(3)Rick H.
Thank you God! Just rolled into C-Ville, and this place on the Pedestrian Mall just spoke to me. I wandered in to find a grrreat beer menu and remarkable food in big ol' portions to boot. This is the kind of bar that only a college town can produce, but it's kinda small, so it may get crowded and lose its small pub feel once classes start in earnest. Definitely worth checking out though. I'll be there - 'til my wife physically drags me out!
(4)Ryan M.
For all of the positive reviews, I was surprised by Miller's overall lack of service, not to mention how the food was mediocre bar quality at best. The thing that is going for Miller's is the relaxing atmosphere and the extensive beer list. If you are looking to get a bite to eat with your friends or meet some, stop by Miller's for a drink and a bite. It is not a place to actually enjoy dinner: for that, there are many good restaurants on the Mall.
(3)Tom J.
Bar type environment on first floor, little smokey and dark. Good food but pricy.
(3)Evelyn R.
Millers was recomended to us by locals. We met a friend there for Saint Pattys Day. I had the catfish with the jalapeno hush puppies, and she had the fried green tomato salad both were so yummie. Loved the outdoor seating. The beer list is HUDGE so take your time. The bar is dark and narrow, and a line for the bathroom every time you go in. The waitress was so cute and funny had a great time overall.
(3)Paul B.
Great place to hang out and people watch on a warm Sunday afternoon. Sit outside and enjoy $3 bloody mary's all day. The food is pretty typical pub fair+. Great beer selection and plenty of hipsters to keep you talking ;)
(4)Eric L.
I go for the nacho's and a brew. Great sandwich menu....old and smokey- lot's of character.
(4)Carol K.
We went for the Monday night trio -which was awesome- holla to the sax! but was pleasantly surprised by the extensive beer menu (served my favorite) delicious catfish and veggie burger.
(5)Davey F.
this is a decent dive, and their happy hour beer prices were VERY good. the food was so-so, but pricy for what you get--i had catfish (tiny portion, more breading than fish), grits (good, but i'm not a grits expert), and a salad (edible but meh), all for $9.50. on the other hand, the band they had ROCKED. a sax, a bass, and drums, don't know if they're regulars or not. they fucking rocked though.
(3)JiaJia T.
The food is nothing to write home about. Taste like food from any chain restaurants, but what gives it a little edge is the outdoor seating with a fountain in the middle. Good place to relax, drink, and people watch
(3)Gina A.
I loved this little nook! What a great find. I got the Oyster Po Boy and it was amazing! Service is as expected. Attentive but not in your face. Great place.
(5)Erikka C.
Miller's is just a cool bar. I'm impressed by their massive beer list. Ordered the 109 Nachos and the waiter asked us if we knew what we were getting ourselves into...he was worried the 4 of us wouldn't be able to finish it. Well, the nachos came out in a giant skillet, with lots of BACON on top, and we dug in. Not sure we could have finished it but luckily a 5th friend joined us to help. Our waiter was great, and it is a nice place to get a beer and an app. I also enjoy it a lot more now that the main floor is non-smoking. They also have a nice outdoor patio.
(4)Tolga E.
Miller's is a pretty standard, semi-dive bar on the main street in Charlottesville, VA. The food is bar-food, the drinks are bar-drinks, the bartenders are nice local folk. None of this matters. This place gets 5 stars for the simple fact that Dave Matthews himself, while a bartender here, wrote his first songs, met his band-mates, and played his songs in public here for the very first time. For me, that's priceless (like those MasterCard commercials). That's all I need to know about the place and I've been there twice. That said, they also get credit for not flaunting yet (you'd never know this fact by visiting or even scraping the walls for evidence that it happened). But it did. They don't talk about it, honor it, and even mention it...and you probably shouldn't either. This is because, DMB aside, they still have massive musical cred. The local C-ville music scene which produced DMB and inspired so many other musicians is still alive and well here in this tiny space. John D'Earth still plays here regularly. Tim Reynolds has been known to stop by from time to time. And you never know when the next Dave Matthews is going to start plucking a new "I'll Back You Up" and launch themselves into the musical stratosphere... I remember thinking I'll go on forever only knowing I'll see you again...
(5)David F.
Great drink selection, tasty treats, and great servers. Showed up with a bunch of kids and when everything took a real long time and without complaint from us, the comped us a round of drinks and took a messed up order of wings off the bill, again this was unprompted by us. The hushpuppies kicked ass, the nachos were great and the drinks were strong and cheap. The local crowd was friendly and the atmosphere while not the look for kids was comfortable enough for the 5-16 crowd we had with us, might not have been right for super sensitive parents, although maybe upstairs is more suited. definitely will return if we are in the area again.
(5)Steven S.
Had to stop by here while I was in Charlottesville, VA since this where DMB began. It is surprisingly small considering it is a "music venue". It definitely has a local atmosphere and has it's regular patrons. They have a good beer selection, I can't comment on the food as I did not eat there. I would love to go back on a weekend when there is band or someone playing........ I can't imagine what it was like hearing Dave play there back in the day.
(3)Joshua M.
I like the Blue Ridge Burger and fries. Sitting out on the mall is pretty great, the bar itself is pretty crowded, I don't recommend it on a busy night if you aren't in the mood for swimming in people.
(3)Shawn S.
Food was pretty good. Had hush puppies and jambalaya. Very nice service and food came out quick. Then again, it was a Sunday night. Bar has an unpleasant stench.
(3)Scott R.
College dive bar. Good burgers. Nice outdoor seating. Blue Ridge Burger--blackened, blue cheese--is delicious.
(3)Melissa S.
Minus two stars for the whole bit about Dave Matthews. If I were them, I'd keep my association with DMB on the DL. i really like the place otherwise (definitely 4 star worthy). They were playing mostly old Wilco classics. Great little local bar with good happy hour specials and cheerful Christmas lights. I went with a friend of mine on a mellow Tuesday evening; a lot of dread-headed hippies and C'ville townies were hanging out (the exception being us - him being a UVA law student and me being the visiting San Francisco non-profit social worker). Our waitress was very sweet and friendly. Happy hour specials change daily, she told us, and gave us a peek at her cheat sheet of notes. Today it was "$5 Chimays, $2 Tilts, $3 Blue Moons, $2 ____ Brown Ale." The other specials were crossed out. Definitely, the perfect spot to spend a quiet weeknight and catch up with an old friend.
(3)Kate S.
Miller's is your typical bar, and I don't have any incredible memories from my evenings there, but they are all fond memories nonetheless. I had my first 21-year-old drink there (ahem, I mean, my first ever drink), and I always really enjoyed the live jazz there. It is a chill place, and the upstairs area with the pool tables is great for a night when you have nothing to do, and just want to hang out with friends. It's definitely sort of a Charlottesville landmark!
(3)Hellacious C.
Great little smokey bar. It's what a real, old fashioned bar should look like. LONG bar, narrow room, smoke. Food is pretty good, and pretty cheap. Good beer prices. Especially at happy hour. It's fun to sit outside when the weather's nice. BUT if you do sit outside, know that your service will probably be a bit worse. If you sit outside and you're thirsty, order another beer every time you see your waitress. Seriously. Whether your current one is empty or not. You might not get another chance for a LONG time. Or just order pitchers of beer..
(4)Jamie G.
Miller's was one of my favourite bars in C'ville until today. It was a bright sunny day, and I sat outside to read my book and drink a beer. I'm 33, and when the new waiter asked for ID I showed him my passport. He said he was sorry, but it expired this month, (even though is showed my picture and my birthdate) he said he was unable to serve me. Soooo, I got a glass of ice water and was still going to make the most of a beautiful day. Until, after my water that same waiter asked if I was planning on ordering something? I said, "what?" "Now you're going to ask me to leave?" I said, "I'll take a cup of coffee." That's when the manager came over and told me that it was time to leave. Seriously. I proceeded to ask for a cup of coffee, and she said that she was calling the cops, and informed all of the waitstaff that they were not to get me any coffee. I started to feel like I was in a novel by Beckett or maybe a Seinfeld episode when up walked two police officers that informed me that I had to leave. I asked on what grounds, and they said that it's a private establishment, and they can refuse to serve anyone, and he also mentioned that I could go to the Hook, but recommended talking to the owner first (who wasn't there at the time). It was definitely one of the most unfair experiences that I've ever had.

I came here with my husband, sister, brother, and parents for a late lunch. The atmosphere was fabulous (I love the New Orleans theme going on upstairs) and the menus are very well designed. Our server was excellent and none of us ever had an empty glass. When I ordered a veggie burger and a side salad, he was quick to mention that the side salad came with bacon and ask if I would like it removed. He was one of the best waiters I have had in a long time. Everyone in my party enjoyed their meal (chicken tenders, steak and cheese, fried green tomatoes, and two burgers) and my husband said his burger was the best burger he had ever had. I ordered the veggie burger and while the bun was toasted to perfection the burger itself left a lot to be desired. Veggie burgers usually crumble but this one fell apart more quickly than I have encountered before. There was an avocado something on the top with a brownish tinge that seemed unhealthy. It tasted off to me and I think the veggie burger quality would have been improved by its removal. My side salad, however, was perfection itself. It is rare to see such a delicious salad in a bar. After we finished our entrees, my mother wanted to order the sundae she had seen on the menu. We ordered three for the table to share and were favorably impressed. It consisted of creamy peanut butter and strawberry jelly in between two warm waffles, two scoops of vanilla ice cream on top, surrounded by banana and chocolate sauce. I highly recommend it and may come back just for the sundae. It was the most delicious sundae I have ever had the privilege of eating. Overall, it was a good experience. I will more than likely be back, just not for the veggie burger.
(3)Matthew H.
Good selection of local craft brew. What's more, they have everything in bottles and rotate the taps so something fresh is always on. Burgers are their thing, and I had a shrimp burger, which was great but was Burger of the Month so it may not always be available. Service is friendly and knowledgeable. My wife's new favorite place. Definitely aded to our rotation when we visit C'ville.
(5)D C.
Beer was tasty. Can't tell you how the food was because the waitress never came back to get my order. I was on the patio. After 35 minutes she finally came back, I asked for my check and she forgot that too. Oh well. Luckily the downtown mall has lots of other choices.
(1)Jennifer H.
Miller's downtown on Main St in Charlottesville, VA is an awesome spot to enjoy some nightlife. We've been there the past two years when we travel to VA and have enjoyed it each time. Serves food late with outside seating and even in the summer, it's not that hot while sitting outside. The nachos and hamburger were great! Lots of choices in beer so there is something for everyone!

Interesting comments from the owner. A little defensive and inflammatory. Maybe having a bad day. Ingredient list for a Cape Codder is right on. Maybe the bartender should review the recipe. The Pimm's Cup was good though.

I've been going to Miller's from time to time for the last 7 years. It's a local divey bar, what were you expecting- the Ritz? A sparkling shrine to Dave? Guess what, it's gonna have some grit to it, and Dave is just a normal guy you see around town- nobody cares. Get over it, tourists. The menu has been dramatically changed recently, and the food was pretty good before, but I think it excellent now. I recently went back and had a catfish dinner with cole slaw, jalapeno hush puppies and the BEST grits I have ever had in my life. DELISH. Superb beer selection, and the patio is just the best place to be out on a hot summer night (unless you are the kind of douchebag that belongs at Commonwealth.) My only complaint is that service can be very spotty. Some of the servers act like you should feel privileged to be waited on. Other than that, I wouldn't change a thing about Miller's.

I went to Miller's with some friends for drinks. My friend's selling intro to Miller's of course included a bit about Dave Matthews. It's small place but seems like a good place to listen to live music. Service is good and drinks are cheap! Coming from DC where a beer is almost double the cost of a beer at Miller's, I'll take it. Good place for a cold beer and a relaxed night out.

I enjoyed this place. I had the chicken and waffles and the french fries with cheese curds and bacon. This is one of those places where you have to leave your ideas about eating healthy food at the door. I really loved the chicken. The waffles were just okay. The french fries were great!

What Graceland is to Elvis fans, Miller's is to DMB loyalists. They could have sprinkled rat poison on my food and I still would have given them 5 stars. The food here was surprisingly good though. I ordered the jambalaya and it came with a great tasting house salad that left me more than full. It was really surreal coming in here and visualizing Dave here in the early 90's pouring drinks to supplement his income as he began to lay the foundation on what has been a legendary career. Don't expect Miller's to be touristy with posters and memorabilia. This is what gives the place it's charm. It is a hole in the wall, cozy atmosphere that pumps out live music in the evenings located right on Main St. A great spot to grab a couple buds, have a few drinks, and tell a few stories. If only I could have heard a few of those stories 20+ years ago.

Charlottesville Classic.. Great nachos!

Swarming with rats. Seriously. Come here if you desire a mild to moderate case of food poisoning.
(2)Neil E.
I stopped into Millers as an alternative to getting drinks at the Jefferson for a show and was treated to excellent service even if the drinks were a little on the weak side of things. This is definately a place that getting a beer vs. anything with liqour is recommended.

We were taking a day trip to the Charlottesville area and decided on Miller's for a late lunch. There were seats open outside, so we decided to grab a table. Sat there for about 10 minutes before we even saw a waitress (or at least we saw one, but they never came to our table. Just walked around it). When we finally were able to place our order, we decided to split an order of nachos (pictures on yelp from other diner's made them look great) and a slice of the key lime pie. The waitress said she needed to check to make sure the pie set up right before she let us order it, and came back a short time later to tell us that it was fine. When our order of nacho's arrived, it was about 20 chips covered in chili and cheese. Not the towering pile if deliciousness that other people had posted. Once we were finished with the not worth the price $8.99 plate of chips, the waitress said she's put the order in for the pie. 25 minutes later, no pie, and no waitress- until we finally flagged a waiter from another section to tell them to cancel the pie order and just bring our check. Once we complained, our pie magically appeared (on the house because it took so long) along with our bill. I guess if we ordered a beer, our service would have been better? My only thought was because were a low tab table, we weren't worth the effort. We won't go back.

We happened by Miller's on a short trip through Charlottesville. The outdoor section, nicely shaded, was great. We had our dog and so she could join us. Awesome people watching too. I had a cheeseburger, which was excellent. I love grass fed beef. Service was fine, could have been a bit more attentive though. This would definitely be a regular place if we lived local. Ooops, great local beer selection too, almost forgot to mention.

Atmosphere, great for a divey place on the mall. Food, not bad---in fact the tacos were decent; however, cooking tortillas does wonders (as opposed to taking them straight from the package and filling them---just a tip from a part-time Texican). Service, average/acceptable/prompt. My issue---I didn't have enough cash to cover bill + tip. So, I paid with my card and left cash as a tip---writing "CASH" on the tip line. My card has been overcharged (note, NOT pending, but final). No response (yet) from Millers---so far they seem agreeable and I will update my review and star-rating (if applicable) upon resolution.

From out of town. Wanted a good burger and good beer, got both. Lot's of local beer and drafts. Burger was 6.5/10. Service was great.
(4)Dave R.
Definitely a dive bar with plenty of odd people inside of it and second hand smoke in the air. Only upside is that their kitchen stays open the latest of any bar on the mall. Dive bar fans will love this place but most other people will find a much better bar no problem.

Fantastic lunch at a good price. We stumbled upon this place on a cold January afternoon. While crowded, we were able to get a table, and were served quickly. I had the half Muffuletta sandwich, and it was big and thick enough for two; I suggest going with the quarter version. It was delicious. My wife enjoyed the tomato and basil soup with a grilled cheese; she loved it. Great service + very good food = a real lunchtime find.
(4)Daniel C.
Sat down for dinner and was told by a very nice server that they were serving a Louisiana menu this evening but, the kitchen had run out of rice and grits. We left since nearly the entire menu had these two items as part of the entrée. Shame, because the food looked good. How do you run out of two items that can be bought in bulk and do not spoil?

We stopped here for lunch while visiting Charlottesville from Boston. We sat out in the patio which was really nice the weather was warm and the patio had trees nicely shading it. Our waitress was warm and friendly I wish I got her name. My husband ordered a burger which he enjoyed but the fries had a spiciness to them which he didn't like. I got a salad with chicken and the chicken was very tough. We heard yelling in the courtyard and some men were waving a bus boy or waiter to come out of the main restaurant and the young kid came out and the men were harassing him for money. We were getting a little concerned because it was getting heated and they were yelling . I think the characters around this place are a little shady. Like other reviewers said too, the smoking is gross there is only a little section for non smokers outside so they allow smoking in there patio smokers all around a while trying to eat. Get with the times Virginia second hand smoke is a killer.
(3)Jenny L.
Conveniently located in the downtown pedestrian mall, we stopped by for a mid-afternoon snack, had a couple of beers and some food. I am a big fan of the jalapeño hush puppies, I can have them all day long. We had the catfish (thin) with South Carolina grits, and garlic mash. I had Long Trail's Double Bag on draft... plentiful selection of beers. I would've like to check this place out at night but unfortunately we were only in town for 2 nights and had prior obligations.

This review will have two parts to it: alcohol and food. First, the food is mediocre. I had a caesar salad, and while they did give me a good amount of chicken, I don't think the salad was worth what it cost. The waitress was nice, but a little awkward. Second, this place is really just for beer. Beer ONLY. While I've been to bars with a much wider selection, none of those have been in Cville. And Miller's does have great seating outside for cooler nights. However, do NOT get a mixed drink. They're obviously rushed and with little thought put into them. After a beer, I had a margarita and it was god awful. My friends, who are from Great Britain, were excited to see the bar offer Pimms. Having had one before and loved its refreshing taste, I asked to taste. It was awful. Neither one of them finished it. Nevertheless, if you live around the area and want a good place to drink beer and sit outside, then this is the place for you. If you're looking for a good meal, good drinks, and good company, this place will be a hit and miss.
(2)Rick G.
Great dive bar rich with local history, particularly a rock band that form here, but didn't really play. I found the burger to be fantastic, and the lobster bisque soup was great. A bucket list stop for a days long past, checked off. There still no blue water, still, but the place was great. I ate, drank, and was merry. So tomorrow's not looking so good, eh hippies?

The joke I tell my friends is, the closest I have ever come in my life to getting hepatitis is the time I had to use the bathroom at Miller's. And everyone gets it, The joke needs no explanation. They have been trying to clean up their act over the last couple of years. They are making progress. It is not a bad place to go sit on the patio and drink a beer or have a sandwich. It is some of the best patio seating on the downtown mall for people watching. If you are going to sit at the bar and drink late into the night, keep your wallet in your front pocket, and walk home in a zigzag pattern so no one can follow you. In my opinion it is one of the sketchier places on the mall.
(2)Dan M.
Came here for a quick meal after hanging out at Monticello. We snagged a table on the top level and enjoyed some decent but nothing to write home about burgers. It was nice seeing a long list of toppings you can add on, though, including avocado, beef chili, and fried egg. Also on the list: peanut butter. I was almost curious enough to try it. It comes with a side, and while they have pretty good fries, I would recommend the grilled asparagus. Nice char grilled flavor. I was surprised to see they had a pool hall up there, too. Very large and space efficient. The best part of the meal was seeing Bell's Kalamazoo porter on the menu. Well done. It was delicious, a perfect pairing with my grub.

Got the "special" burger. Local grown, grass fed, and aged. Delish!!! Son got chicken tenders and fries and We got the burger with chips. ALL was good, no great! Can't say which was better the chicken or the burger, but I don't think you can go wrong with this place. Grade A

I wanted to love this place on so many levels. First of... seating outside on the mall under the trees... a selection of beers that only cost a dollar to clean out the inventory... BURGERS!!! and other delightful menu items... plus, I love a good looking dive bar. The thing is... we stopped in for a nice lunch under the trees in the middle of a pretty long drive back to PA from NC. We ordered appropriately and while everyone around us enjoyed their food, ours never arrived. When I finally flagged down my server, she explained that they tell their guests that their food does sometimes take a while to prepare. A med-rare burger and special sandwich weren't a complicated order, so this left me a little wary of her explanation. Finally, minutes later my food arrives and my mother still has nothing in front of her. Apparently the server forgot to ring in our order. And to be honest, after noting how busy she was, I don't blame her. Anyway, my mom finally gets her food, our entire meal was comped and the manager was kind enough to touch our table to apologize. While the entire thing put a big delay in our trip and caused a bit of frustration, we were beyond appreciative of the steps the restaurant took to amend the unfortunate situation.
(3)Ash K.
Most awful service of any establishment. We ordered nachos without beef and chicken instead and got charged a 50% surprise surcharge. No warning. Beer ordered that the waitress indicated was 0.75 on happy hour tuned out to be $4. When we asked we were told it was our fault of not reading the prices and the fine print. Go here at your own risk and if you want bad service with an attitude. We ordered the nachos which were burnt and really bad quality.

Today was the perfect day for a mid-afternoon beer on the mall. We grabbed a table outside on the mall and just ordered drinks. They have a decent beer selection with some local brews. I tried two different beers, neither of which were fantastic. I'll have to go back on another beautiful day to enjoy the outdoor seating and to try the food.
(4)Dave S.
Delicious, fast and inexpensive lunch in the heart of Charlottesville. Spicy chicken sandwich was spot on and my wife really enjoyed the philly cheesesteak.
(4)Joe S.
This 4 star rating comes from one dish: A peanut butter and jelly waffle sandwich topped with banana, ice cream and hot fudge. It tastes even better than it sounds. Beer menu is really good and the fried green tomatoes were outstanding! Great restaurant.
(4)Karen B.
Great beer list. Tasty fish and chips. The fish was a beer-battered (alluded to PBR in the menu) cod. Batter was light and crisp. Cod was light and flaky. Fries were dusted in a Cajun seasoning. Friendly and quick service. If it's winter make sure to sit back from the dour or in the second floor. It was unseasonably cold on our visit and sitting near the front door, along the bar we consistently got blasted by cold air whenever the door opened.

Review is for the bar drinks only, and with a large beer list and a live Bluegrass band, I may find my way back to this hipster/divey bar. A little bit of a hole-in-the wall that you may walk right by if you aren't careful, the dulcet tones of a live Bluegrass band lured us in. We sat at the bar that runs along the left side of the wall (there is inside and outside seating) and were immediately greeted by our bartender. The have a massive beer list of mostly local domestic beer, which scores major points. One of the most interesting drinks they had was a cider with a shot of Fireball whiskey in it - it's such a perfect combination it's hard to believe I've never thought of it myself. It's a cool place to hang out with friends on a Friday night, and live music is always a plus.

Visited Miller's while out of town on business. My husband came up for the weekend, and we were in search of a good burger! *Pros* -Great outdoor seating. Seat yourselves, and a server will come take care of you. -Friendly staff! We all know that is hard to come by these days. -Extensive cocktail menu for the ladies, and fella. Plus, they were super cheap. I loved how they broke the drinks down into categories, to keep it real simple for those of that do not drink on the reg. Ease of use is a bonus in my book. -The menu was fun. Yep, English major nerd here, but I loved the print and colors of the menu. -Unusual items that you don't find everyday. My husband had jalapeno corndogs. And he enjoyed them! -Generous portion sizes. Which is a minus in this country. Know when to stop people! *Cons* -My burger had zero flavor. Which is unfortunate, as I was the main one in search of a good burger. -This isn't a con on the restaurant per se, but Charlottesville is fly city! They're not even on the water, so I don't know where the plague of flies is coming from at every single restaurant I went to during my two week stay! *Verdict* -Good drinks, variety of items to choose from, skip the burger.

We wanted something quick and tasty after a day of brewery tours. Miller's seemed to fit the bill. Wrong! I think we got the short stick with our server. It took about 15 minutes to get beer, we placed an order for the fried pretzels (which were the highlight, SO odd but delicious), took forever for those, then our waitress disappeared for no joke 30 minutes. Never saw her again, and had to ask the other very attentive server in our section for our tab. But that aside, the beer list is pretty good, very local, but pricey (isn't this a college town? How do kids afford $7 pours?). The food too was much pricier than at first glance, all a la carte. Start with a $7.99 burger, but cheese is $2, bacon was $2.59 (that better be a LOT of bacon), sides were $3-4... if I'd gotten a burger with two toppings and fries, it would've been over $15. No thanks.

Had lunch here today while shopping in historic Charlottesville. The only reason I gave this place four stars was due to the wait for food. I was starving but I read the warning in the menu so I was aware. They have a very small kitchen so food takes time. The service was attentive and the food that comes out is very good. They do have decent drink specials and a very extensive bar. There were five of us. I had the jalapeño corn dogs with fries. Nice twist and just enough bite. Two full hot dogs per order. My daughter had the cheese steak. We decided to split our meals. The cheese steak was awesome. The steak tender and the cheese was melty cheesy goodness. The hubby had the Mouth of the South burger. It was quite the mouthful too. It came with pimento cheese and bacon and was stacked high with the fixins. He loved it. The other two teens at our table had chicken tenders, real white meat not pressed and were more like strips than tenders, and Pot stickers I was told these were tasty as well and the dipping sauce really good. I would recommend this place and will likely be back next time we visit C'ville.

Although there are some strange characters in this place, and people smoking just on the other side of the patio, it's a good place to go for some good food at a good price in downtown Charlottesville. My boyfriend had a nicely cooked burger and fries, with some yummy sriracha ketchup and good toppings. I had the fried green tomatoes, which were so incredibly flavorful and delicious. These aren't your everyday fried green tomatoes - they came loaded with goat cheese, pico de gallo, and a buttermilk ranch drizzle, all over a field of crisp arugula. The best fried green tomatoes I've had in Virginia, and if you've read my other reviews, you know I've been trying them everywhere! The breading wasn't too thick or too thin, and didn't overwhelm the tomato. There was just deliciousness in every bite.

Got the standard burger and beer option here. Supposedly has the best burgers (according to them)...Angus beef,no hormones, cooked to order (but not how I ordered it). I tried a VA beer on tap...wild coyote or something like that...pretty good...and for happy hour on Wednesdays VA beers were 1/2 off. Now that is a pretty good deal. Band was setting up when we were leaving. I would have liked to have hears them play...especially since I saw a drum set. Maybe next time...

Big selling point of Miller's for me: the kitchen is open all night. They got an extra star just for that, since I've been learning lately that finding good food late at night isn't as easy as I'd like it to be. After catching a show at The Southern (this was a Saturday night, iirc), my friends and I wanted to grab a bite to eat before heading back to Lynchburg. We intended to go to Citizen Burger Bar, but their kitchen was already closed; the bartender there pointed us in the direction of Miller's and a couple other places that had their kitchens open late. When we found Miller's, we were pleased to find menus outside, so we could decide if they had food worth trying before going in and finding a seat. We liked what we saw, so we headed inside. There was a band playing that night (The Fustics) and the ground floor was pretty busy; one of my friends isn't too big on being crowded, so for her sake we went to one of the booths on the landing that leads to the upper floor. There, we weren't crowded by strangers, could still hear the band clearly, and could hear each other without having to yell. They have an impressive beer list, and while I wasn't drinking that night, I did find a couple drinks on their list that I took note of to try and track down at some point, including Potter's Cider from Charlottesville, which is great if you like a really dry cider. Between us, we ordered a blackened chicken sandwich and a cheeseburger. Both came out without much delay despite the bustle downstairs and both were good. Neither was something to make a trip to C-ville for, but if you're out late and end up at Miller's because you can't find another open kitchen (like we did), you won't be at all disappointed with what you get. Solid food, especially since they could really slack off and rest in the fact that you can't really go anywhere else to bring them business. I don't remember exactly what we paid, but I thought it was reasonable for the amount and quality of food that we received. The service wasn't anything special, but we didn't have any problems with our server either. Bottom line: Seems good for drinks/music, and the food is all right when you're out of options, but I can't imagine it'd be hard to find comparable quality food elsewhere if you're not eating late.

A 3.5 star review bumped up to 4 stars because the place is a local institution with a lot of history. Wandering around downtown mall trying to find a place to eat after 10pm can be a struggle--even on the weekends. Luckily, Miller's still serves their whole menu, which is actually pretty decent for a dive bar. Salads were fresh tasting and flavors were good, beer list is great, seating outdoors on the mall, and pretty reasonable prices... Not a lot to dislike.
(4)Rachael O.
This place doesn't pretend to be anything other than it is--a friendly, dive bar (so it does smell a bit smokey, though not overwhelming) and restaurant. I was in town on business and we wanted a quick, affordable meal at a place close to the movie theater. The staff was uniformly friendly but not intrusive. I got the chicken and waffles ($13) and my companion got chicken nachos ($8). The chicken tenders were moist, crispy, and piping hot. The waffle was crispy on the outside, tender on the inside. It was big enough to share for a person of a light to moderate appetite. My companion said his nachos were "pretty good." He ordered them without jalapenos and they were originally served with, but the restaurant quickly made him a new order. Despite this, we were able to make our movie. Tasty, casual, reasonably priced option on the pedestrian mall.
(4)Lisa W.
Had lunch here with my family last Saturday and it was pretty good. My husband and I ordered beers and the pretzel bites as an appetizer. They are not your typical soft pretzel bite out of a freezer bag, they are actual pretzels that have been deep fried and seasoned to perfection! Great with a glass of beer! We also ordered burgers and they were good and my son had the chicken tenders, which he liked. My son kept saying his chicken tasted like fish and we realized that the same frying oil is probably used for both menu items. Customer service was ok, overall it was a good place to grab some lunch!

This restaurant has been in downtown mall for a long time and one of the famous restaurants in Charlottesville. I went there last night with my friend. Outside seating area was crowded as usual and we found a table by the entrance. We sat and started smelling urine. We couldn't stand the smell and waited for a table at the patio area. We both ordered no bull burger and the waitress asked us if we'd like to have chips, fries or side salad. My friend ordered fries and I ordered salad. When I saw the check, she charged us fries for $3 and salad $4 and cheese $1 which we didn't know. The way she asked was as if salad and fries come with the burger. She said chips come with the burger but not fries and salad. If we would've known, we were too hungry to eat fries and salad and she didn't serve chips either. Their customer service and the food quality have gone really low and I will not go to a restaurant that smells urine. If it's that filthy, I don't event want to imagine what's going on with their kitchen.
(1)Kathryn D.
A decent lunch spot for the walking street with ample outdoor seating and satisfying food. I ordered a salad and appreciated the ample, fresh greens, generous cheese/bacon toppings and well-paired dressing. An easy place to sit for lunch and people watch on a pretty day and it fit that bill just fine for me. Service was minimal but adequate and the beer list seemed extensive but I didn't try anything.
(3)Victoria J.
This is part review (belated!) and part appeal! Heard about their new locally sourced aged beef for their burgers and went there - WOW - this beats Citizen hands down. My friend who rarely eats beef ended up eating half of my burger because it was so amazing. I have since heard that because of one review on Yelp by someone who couldn't take the taste of gourmet beef they are dropped the dry aged delicious beef. NOOOOOOO! please! Warn those who should go to McDonalds and get tasteless cardboard between a bun to do exactly that but leave the deliciousness for the rest of us fans!
(5)Jesse L.
Supposedly the place where Dave Matthews Band got its start, this place is always hopping with live music and outdoor seating. It has several floors as well (games and a quieter environment upstairs). Good beer list for sure. Decent drinks. Good pub food. Decent service. An ok spot just not one of my favorites.
(3)Julieta R.
After visiting Monticello my friend and I decided to stroll through Charlottesville downtown to grab a bite before returning to D.C. That's when we discovered this place. I had the fried waffle, fried chicken tenders and french fries with the honey spicy sauce. I will drive the 2 1/2 hours just to have this again. Can't wait to taste other items on the menu.
(4)Mike W.
Amazing burgers! Super fresh. Might sound weird but they have homemade ranch dressing and its crack.
(5)Joseph S.
I came here with my wife and sister on a Friday night during spring break so we were able to grab a table near the live band. It was definitely loud and I imagine this is the type of place that when school is in session is packed. We got a few different beers, and the selection was great. The service was attentive and music was enjoyable. We did end up getting French fries that had an old bay flavor to them that were delicious. I'd come back for the beer selection and music alone.
(4)Dale C.
Stopped in after spending the day @ Monticello, in desperate need of a beer and sustenance. An extensive local beer menu was greatly assisted the former and a delicious thick burger cooked to order benefitted the latter. I had grilled asparagus as a side rather than yer traditional fries or onion rings and I wish I'd hadn't. Nothing special. Nice to sit outside on a pleasant August afternoon and watch the parade go by.
(4)Jeff N.
Ok. Definitely a cool old bar (very dark inside) and definitely a place that would be good to waste the afternoon away trying local craft beer. Unfortunately, we were there to eat. Not extremely busy when we sat down (outside) and we were immediately approached about drinks. This is where the train started to become derailed. Long store short, the waitress really seemed to be going thru the motions and our food took awhile to get to table. We had to basically ask for everything we needed for our meal (refills, condiments, etc) that she made us feel like we were really putting her out. Three stars for the food only. The service needs to step it up.
(3)Darcy P.
just a dive bar, but one with a good beer selection and, the night I was there, surprisingly good music. two downsides: time between sets was REALLY long, and I guess the two-person band requires its own between set music, which was slow and horrendous and didn't fit their energetic vibe. I mean bad enough to point of not finishing your beer and leaving, esp when it goes on for 20+ minutes (probably more, but I don't want to exaggerate). Second downside, the bartender really wasn't cool to the kitchen staff. White male bartender, who was cool to most every patron, it seemed, was notably not cool to the Latino kitchen staffers who came to get their free beer at end of shift. I didn't like it and, had it happened earlier in the night, I wouldn't have stayed. this is based on only one experience, but worth noting bc it was not cool.
(3)Chris S.
This place is probably only decent if you were to just get a drink with your friends because it sure isnt a place I would go for food. The food is blah and the service sucks. The bathrooms smell as if there is a sewage back up, it's greasy and dirty. The waitresses don't know what an appetizer is and when it's supposed to be served since they brought the appetizer and lunch all out together. We only saw our waitress when she came to take our order and give us the bill. No checking in between to see if we needs refills, or napkins or anything else you may need with your meal. When our order came up I asked the sub waitress why our appetizers are being served with the meal since we asked for that first and she ever so kindly ignored me and left. Like I said if you want just drinks this might be an ok place because it might be the only thing this dive can do half way right.

While I appreciate receiving a response from any manager of an establishment that I've visited, I am saddened to have been faced by such a terse response regarding my initial review. Miller's is not the first or the last establishment to receive a negative review, from me or anyone else on this site. I do not use social media as a means to spread lies or to belittle. My review was meant to point out an issue that I experienced - my own truth, that can be corroborated by seven other individuals in my party. The manager also has his own perception - another thing that I can not change.

Drinks: 4 stars Food: 3 stars Atmosphere: 2 stars Staff: 4 stars Overall impression: Exceedingly average. If you don't mind a loud band, then you will enjoy their Fridays. I think this joint specializes in people who want to drink and they happen to have a kitchen. Our waitress was very kind and attentive even with us being on the second floor. My wife and I ordered a beer on tap and enjoyed it, even though we did not get a refill. The meal, however, was sub-par. My wife enjoyed the burger saying, "it was customizable with toppings and temperature." I ordered the nachos only to find they were both small and microwaved! The fries, however, were fantastic. Well worth the cost plus a great portion. I did not try their hand-crafted sodas, but that alone isn't a pull to bring me back. If you want to drink with your buddies, this is a four star bar. If you want food or atmosphere, two stars throughout. Overall, you won't regret coming here, but you also won't regret NOT coming here.
(3)Bo H.
They know what they're doing. With service, life music, whathave you. I'll be back. The trio on Monday night was really something, not one missed moment.
(5)Howard J.
This place has the worst food on the downtown mall hands down. Worst chicken tenders I have ever had In my life. I mean really.. How can you screw up chicken tenders. They were soggy and overly greasy in addition to forcing several trips to the restroom. Looking for a good meal? Don't go to Millers.
(1)Gia M.
Miller's is a typical kind of dive bar that also happens to be one of the more touristy draws to downtown Charlottesville (-coughDaveMatthewscough-). But don't let that stop you from grabbing a drink. Miller's has an excellent patio area that is great for people-watching. The beers tend to err on the more Belgian side of things (not a bad thing!) and apparently, if you order a full size of their nachos and eat it by yourself, you get it for free. Now, I was about to take that challenge on when my friend assured me that all I had seen coming out of the restaurant were the half sized portions (and those were the size of other bars' normal-sized nachos), so I feel like I dodged failure there. Not for the faint of heart, but a cool offer nonetheless.

Our family decided to check out Charlottesville over a long weekend and ended up at Millers because it was one of the few places open for dinner on Sunday night. The staff was really friendly when we walked in (and throughout) and the place has a nice local feel to it. Only when picking through Yelp did we find out the Dave Mathews connection (which was an interesting bit of trivia). We started with the nachos and a couple of local beers. Delish! For dinner, our youngest and I both had burgers - and they were GOOD. My burger was the house special "Millers" burger and after a few bites I had to surrender to knife and fork (it was going to get messy if I didn't). I'm salivating now just thinking about it.... I waddled out of there after eating it. My wife, ever sensible had a salad (that she raved about) and our oldest has the chicken fingers, which weren't the normal resurrected foul from the freezer section, but what appeared to be hand cut pieces of battered and fried breast meat (I stole a piece and wow, they were good). A good place with a nice atmosphere. The only real downside in my book was that we all smelled like an ashtray when we left. I don't think there was smoking while we were there, but someone clearly does at some point. That burger though....

I'm visiting from out of town. Good burger and fries. Live jazz music. Open late. Nothing outstanding but worth a visit. Nice outdoor dining option although I ate at the bar.

Food was just okay, and limited beer selection. The biggest issue is that they are apparently one of only 2 restaurants in Cville that allow smoking (apparently also Lazy Parrot Grill, although I haven't confirmed that). Huh?? No thank you.

I went with a group of six people and sat outside. For food, I chose the cheesesteak sandwich with French fries. It was good, but not great or even particularly remarkable. The filling amount was adequate-to-good, and it tasted fine. The French fries were also OK. Miller's has a good beer selection (most in bottles). Their beer menu is arranged by brewery, which was a little annoying, as it was more time consuming to peruse for IPA selections. One major gripe I have regards their service -- particularly the service I initially received. Our server took several minutes to take our drink orders -- in fact, it took long enough for everyone in my party to also decide on their food, so everyone ordered food and drink at the same time. Our server brought MOST people their drinks after another several minutes -- mine took SUBSTANTIALLY longer. I had ordered a beer in a bottle; when I asked why it took so long (the rest of the people in my party were already on their second drink and I hadn't received my first!), our server explained that the beer I ordered was on the third floor! Really?? What kind of excuse is that -- it seems like such a trek should only take another 2-3 minutes (if that). Eventually I did receive my drink, and thankfully subsequent drink orders arrived in an acceptable amount of time. I wasn't sure what my rating should be -- my food was three stars, initially service was 1 star. I decided on three stars mainly because service did improve and for some reason I liked Miller's.
