I've heard of Bodo's Bagels' greatness from all the way up in DC by some coworkers who went to school at UVa. Something about the pH levels of the water being different and that makes the bagels better? I don't know. But I love a good bagel so I was excited to finally try it after coming down for a football game. We got there around 10:30 on a Sunday morning after a Saturday game so it was really busy. We luckily got a parking spot and then got in the line... that was stretched 15 people outside the front entrance. That excited me right off the bat. People don't wait that long for garbage breakfast. The line actually moved really fast. The cashiers did a good job of moving people through with their orders and the other staff did a great job of getting the food out. I got a bacon, egg, and cheese on everything bagel and an OJ. I was really impressed by the bagel. It was toasted nicely and tasted super fresh. One thing that I think is underrated though was the egg on the bagel. It was an actual egg. Like they cooked the egg correctly. If you go to a place like Panera and get egg on a bagel you know what I'm talking about. It's just weird. So props to Bodo's for that. I've probably had a couple bagel experiences this good before but this ranks near the top. I'll definitely be trying to get back here next time I'm in Charlottesville.

You can't go wrong here. The food is wholesome, affordable, fast and diverse. I regularly get a soup and the Cleo Salad. They are fantastic (although the soup is a bit over-priced). The bagels are amazing. Sometimes I get the Garlic Bagel with Kalamata Olive Spread. So good!

eh, nothing amazed me here, we came after realizing that ace biscuit does truly run out of food but not change their hours, i like the spreads i get at einstein bagels better we each got bagel sandwiches, mine was with eggs and ham with jalapeno smear and bf's was with turkey and bacon. i think mine was a bit better service-good price-good ambiance-fast food style, its clean, so its good overall-eh, sure go for it,

I love Bodos! The breads are all made in house as well. The only thing that is weird is I was going to try the chicken salad sandwich... But the thing is that it's actually turkey. And it only has mayo and celery. I opted for just a bacon egg and cheese. This is a must try if you're in Charlottesville - there's three in the area I think.

I've eaten here twice. The first time I ordered a breakfast sandwich with egg, sausage, and cheddar cheese. The food came out quickly but the sausage was exceptionally bland which surprised me because almost everyone eating in the restaurant had ordered a sandwich. The second time I just ordered a bagel and cream cheese. The bagels are really pretty good and I liked that they were very generous with the cream cheese.

You can tell from the sheer amount of space they devote to the kitchen, and from the folks bustling over boiling water, that this is a real bagel place. That is, they serve real bagels, boiled before they're baked, with a nice texture and a reasonable size. That is, they serve the only kind of bagels worth eating. Eat some.

This is my favorite among the bodo's bagels in town. It seems the bagels are always warm, whereas the bagels are sometimes cold at the other locations. We like the lox spread on plain bagel, or the roast beef with cheddar on salt bagel. The roast beef actually goes very well with the salt bagel. The down side is that it's often very loud, and if it's a Sunday, this place can be overrun by screaming children. They have a relatively big parking lot, but sometimes people are not looking when they drive through or back out, so beware.

it's OK. Who doesn't have capers for a LOX and creamcheese bagel? The "Sandwich" had about 3/4 of an inch of whipped (whipped?) cream cheese on it and barely anything else (onion, tomato, lox). The kid behind the counter talked me into substituting in house made olive tapenade for the capers--I shouldn't have let him do that.

I'm a fan!, I normally I don't finish a whole bagel because I feel bad eating so much carbohydrate but the bagels here will make you want to finish the whole thing and eat another. The bagels are soft and tender and their sandwich fillings/toppings are great including Jewish classics like chopped liver or cream cheese and lox. The people are friendly and the service is fast. This is a casual order at the counter and self seating restaurant. Whether its breakfast, brunch, or lunch, this place with definitely satisfy your hunger.

On a recent trip to NYC, my wife and I dined at two popular local bagel shops. Neither was as good as Bodo's. These are truly excellent bagels. Don't be put off by the line, as the staff is very efficient and you never wait long. If only Bodo's ran the TSA.

I LOVE salt bagels. I've tried to get a good salt bagel in Northern VA but have not had any luck. I had to be in Charlottesville for work and couldn't leave without a stop at Bodo's. There was a huge line but it went fast and is worth it. I had lox and cream cheese on a bagel with onions. They got my order wrong initially but they fixed it with no problems. Their bagels are as good as I've had outside of NYC. Please branch out to DC!

You really can't get more Cville than Bodos. There are several around town, and they're consistently good. Bagels are awesome, though they don't have a huge selection of them. I normally just get a breakfast sandwich and it's always been awesome.

We are from Columbus Ohio visiting family near Charlottesville and heard a lot of good things about this bagel place. We had to try it! So the bagels are delicious and the freshest I've ever had before! I could see why it was so busy. The guy at the register was played in helpful after need heard that I am never been there before and was from out of town and told me his favorite bagel. I am also a big fan of frozen yogurt and after I had ordered, I saw they made vanilla bean frozen yogurt and asked if I could have a sample to see it I wanted to get something before we went back home. One of the guys that was putting my order together said let me ask and turn to the other guy that was getting orders ready and they both came back and said that we don't do that. Not the answer that I was expecting to hear. I'm sure I just asked the wrong person because anyone that makes a product that they think people will like would have let you try it to see if you would want to buy it especially when it only cost a couple cents to give a sample to someone and there were sample cups little 2 ounce Solo cups right behind them. Still worth it to go for a bagel but cost in a bad review when they could have got a great review and someone that has tried there frozen yogurt that is a frozen yogurt lover. Also my wife always tries the chicken salad before she orders some because of the man A's people might use and we weren't going to ask to try it after the response we just got earlier.

You won't find many Sunday morning breakfast places on the main street where Bodo's is located near UVA. So when you come here expect it to be pretty crowded. Fortunately the line moves along well and the service is quick. My parents and I stopped into Bodo's before starting our day of winery touring. For morning breakfast, your choices fall mainly between either an egg stuffed or a cream cheese stuffed bagel. Or you can opt to go plain. There is a lot to choose from though from the preparation of the egg, meat, cream cheese flavor, and of course bagel flavor. I ordered an egg white sandwich with Swiss cheese on a whole wheat bagel. Good, satisfying, but nothing special. I guess I understand from a speed standpoint why you cannot ask for your bagel toasted BUT I would have liked that. Fortunately, the bagels are served pretty warm. Aside from the toasting matter, my biggest suggestion for improvement would be to make the paper plates bigger and double them up or provider a thicker, sturdier one. The single tiny 6" disposable paper plate isn't the best foundation for a stuffed bagel and doesn't hold up that well to the weight, grease, or even a knife. If you're looking for quick service, a decent egg sandwich and hot coffee at a low price, Bodo's Bagels is good spot.

Huge fan! I struggle with this one. I want to give them the 5th star but I am not sure its the best I have ever had. I tend to eat on the healthier side so I ordered the whole wheat bagel. This was the softest and tastiest whole wheat I have had. I was shocked; mainly due to the fact I was prepared to be disappointed with my selection. My wife jumped right in and got the sesame bagel that smelled divine. Crazy to think we still only talking about bagels here. I will also tell you the jalapeño lime cream cheese is divine. I wanted to just eat a tub of that by itself. I have a feeling anytime I come to Charlottesville this will be a required stop for my drive back to Richmond.

I love bagel sandwiches and really wanted to love this place, but the dirty interior really bothered me. If I lived here in Charlottesville I would probably either visit another location than the one on Preston Ave, or I would just get the bagels to go. None of the tables were wiped down, and there were loads of crumbs and other disgusting things all over the floors. I totally get that they were busy, but seriously it seems like someone should be wiping tables and sweeping every once in a while. If you're even SLIGHTLY a germaphobe I'd say check out one of the other locations or skip it.

Bodo's was a random find on a road trip, but a gem! We love bagels and make it a sandwich - hello amazing! With a wide selection of bagel types, condiments and toppings (sprouts available!), you can build a pretty dreamy sandwich on any budget. We spent less than $10 for two bagel sandwiches and a salad - big score! Not to mention, the food was fresh and delicious. We'll be hitting up Bodo's on our way home! The restaurant space was pretty dated and dingy. But, we easily looked past it. They were staffed for a mini bagel war - and, they were all so friendly! Great place for lunch, don't miss this one!

I was taken here over the weekend by some local C-ville friends. They claimed these were some famous bagels & they turned out to be pretty decent. It was line out the door busy when we arrived, but the line moved so fast that this first timer still didn't know what she wanted when we were standing in front of the cashier. I love their bagels because they maintain a crisp hard outer crust with a soft inside. Their breakfast sandwiches are great and the service is quick. We always freeze a dozen bagels that we bring back with is. I wish there was. Richmond location.

Well as a born and raised Ch'villian I obviously grew up and loved Bodo's. My high school years were spent eating an "everything bagel" with egg for breakfast each Saturday morning or a Pastrami sandwich later that day. My mom or step-dad would go there EVERY Saturday during my high school years to pick up breakfast for my sister and I and our friends that crashed over. It became a weekly ingrained routine. My step-dad also would go there almost every morning, in fact he still goes there a lot and he used to go there so much that he would accidentally start driving towards Bodo's from our house even when we were supposed to go somewhere else. We would refer to it as the "Bodo's route!" Having lived in Boston now for 10 years I still make it a point to go to Bodo's each time I visit Charlottesville to see friends and family (about twice a year). It's fun to go there because you never know what familiar faces you may run into. Now that I'm vegan I appreciate still being able to eat there. All their bagels are amazing (obviously) and I love the Twin Oaks tofu they offer with lettuce and tomato, or a bagel with hummus spread. They also have good soups too. I don't like being rushed on their crazy morning and lunch rushes, if you need to ask questions about your order it can be pretty intimidating; but overall their staff is very friendly. My only complaints are that a) it's very wasteful there. Between the paper cups, plates, and plastic utensils and salad containers, this place produces A LOT of trash. I wish they would use more reusable plates, cups, and utensils for people eating on-site. My other issue is that the menu pretty much hasn't changed in 10 years. I mean don't fix something that's not broken but maybe evolve a little bit? It is the 21st century and there are a lot more vegetarians and vegans now than there were 10 years ago. Why are my options the same as they were last decade? I hope they can add a vegan cream cheese, more vegan toppings, and maybe even a vegan Caesar salad to their menu (boy do I miss their amazing Caesar salads!! The smell alone brings back nostalgia of being in the car with my mom when I was 16 when she used to eat one multiple times a week). Just expand the menu a little bit, nothing crazy. Just keep the bagels the same, they are perfect!

Bodo's is a great value for the dollar. The bagels are good and the they offer a wide variety of sandwich choices. You can get exactly what you want and have it heated or not. The salads are great as well and good sized. Bodo's also has excellent iced tea. Been going there for years and will continue to do so. Casual, good, and healthy.

GREAT spot. And consistent. You can always expect fresh, delicious food at a great price... and a long line! Chicken salad with lettuce, tomato and onion on an everything bagel cut in half with a cup of soup is my favorite order. The breakfast sandwiches are also great. Love the lox and cream cheese. Not the most inviting decor -- very basic and kind of 80s looking -- but it is what it is and doesn't need to be anything else. I always enjoy the choice of music, too.

Why am I writing another review on Bodos (different location)?? Because they are that good! Bodos knows how to do bagels, and they do it very well. I love the different combinations of bagels with their cream cheese options and different sandwich options. And if you don't like any of Bodos' original bagel sandwich creations, you can make your own sandwich. It's winning all around.

I eat here all the time so might as well leave a review. Great bagels, I get the everything bagel every single time. Lots of choices for bagel sandwiches, can actually get expensive if you don't hold back on your toppings. Fast service, great food, three locations that are basically the same.

No doubt that the bagels are truly excellent. The variations and combinations make almost endless possibilities of bagel delight. Whether you're in the mood for breakfast, lunch, or brunch, Bodo's satisfies your doughful delight. I'm not a fan of pork, so I really like the homemade "nobull" patty, which is their special blend of veggies containing lots of lentils. My only real complaint is that the restaurant is way too small. They just simply do not have enough space and the line is usually out the door. Don't get me wrong. It is definitely worth the wait. But hey, time is money, and we all things to do. It does get annoying when you have to wait 20+ minutes just to order, wait for your order to come up, where there is virtually no space in the waiting area, and then hopefully find an empty table that probably wasn't wiped down because you're willing to sacrifice sanitation for a premium seat. I hate to sound so harsh, because I do really love this place. If you can avoid the rush--probably from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on the weekends, you're probably in good shape and this entire paragraph will be irrelevant to you. All that said try it. There are two other location to satiate your New York style bagel lust. Many Charlottesvillians will tell you that you have not lived until you've tried Bodo's. They're probably correct.

The bagels were fine, but WHY CAN'T I HAVE MY BAGEL TOASTED?!?!?!? I find it ridiculous that they won't do that for you. Who died and made them in charge of how all bagels are prepared. Your job is to make me bagels and I will tell you whether they should be toasted for me or not. How expensive is a toaster oven?!?! Come on.

Bodo's makes the best bagels on the planet, hands down. When I lived in NYC and everyone said how great H&H bagels were, I thought they'd inhaled too many exhaust fumes because they were just ok. But Bodo's makes a proper, boiled NY bagel. My favorite is the egg salad on a plain bagel. I eat it open-faced because otherwise it's pretty messy! I also love egg and bacon on a plain bagel and cream cheese on the cinnamon raisin. My kids love the poppy bagels and my husband's favorite is the everything bagel (kinda stinky, so you get those in a separate bag!). They also make a great Caesar salad (it bites you back!) and really yummy soups. They're also amazingly cheap and pretty fast, even when the line is out the door. I've lived in Cville for over 13 years and Bodo's has consistently been one of the best places in town to get a casual meal. I bring bagels to my old friends up north, and bring anyone who comes to visit me there as well. Everyone ends up buying a bunch to take home. Love love love Bodo's Bagels!!!

Sweet Baby Jebus this place is fantastic. As a massive, massive bagel fan, I am so, so jealous this place is in Charlottesville and not somewhere I am more often. This place churns out top notch bagels at an impressive clip. And the Pastrami. Ohhhhh, the pastrami. What if I told you the best pastrami I've ever had also happens to be some of the cheapest? Would that be something you'd be interested in? BECAUSE IT IS. If you live here, I'm sure everyone knows about this place because it was packed, has multiple locations, and is absolute dynamite. But just on the oft-chance you come to Charlottesville and don't know anyone that implores that you go to Bodo's (like I did), go here and get a bagel with some Pastrami and then bathe in the meaty goodness. My mouth is straight up watering even typing this....

Wow, this place is bagel heaven. While I'm not a bagel snob, since I grew up on the east coast, I know a legit bagel from a not-so-authentic one. These are the real deal and woah are they delicious. I had an everything bagel sandwich with turkey, cheese, mayo and veg. While it sounds like a normal bagel sandwich, there is something magical about the bagel that takes this sandwich to a whole other level I rarely get to experience. It was a welcome surprise and totally lived up to the hype. Mr. Bodo can you please open up shop in Alexandria???

I will get it out right now that I am not a bagel person. Maybe a hamburger person. For sure a cake person. But I have never once just sat there and mused to myself, "Yo, I would ______ if I could get myself a warm, freshly toasted bagel." Then I had Bodo's chicken salad and avocado on an everything bagel. I've now fallen into the slightly troublesome habit of eating two bagel sandwiches in one sitting, because one is just not enough. I mean, duh. Now, let's play a round of What Joy Gets, Bodos Edition: When Joy has a final the next day and wants to leap off a cliff: sausage and kalamata olive When Joy has just finished a final and refuses to do any thinking for the next 24 hours: smoked turkey, bacon, and watercress When Joy is suffering from a hangover from two nights ago: bacon, egg, and cheese When Joy is about to embark on some ferocious drinking: Caesar salad on a sesame bagel (yes I dump the salad on) When Joy misses NYC like kuh-razy despite everything about it: lox and scallion cream cheese When Joy wants to lose weight but is emotionally unable to: honey pecan spread on a blueberry bagel and/or (mostly and) cinnamon sugar butter on a plain When Joy shows up Sunday at 5pm to see Bodos is dark and empty: pure rage later manifested in Cookout takeout

I have bad-mouthed Bodos some in the past and seem to have an ax to grind with them, but truth be told I go there a lot because they have good food and fast, clean service. I am officially dropping my bias towards them and giving in to what my saliva gland is telling me...namely I must really like the place! My personal favorite is the "Sausage Cheddar" which is their lingo for the everything bagel with a sausage patty and a thick slice of cheddar cheese. It is good comfort food, melts in your mouth and goes great with their tasty coffee. Man, I really do love their coffee too. Other times I get either a cinnamon-raisin bagel with cream cheese, or a plain bagel with walnut-raisin creme cheese. Their lunch bagels are good too. I usually get the egg salad sandwich.

Simply average. The breakfast sandwiches were not that good in my opinion. The bagels are the same as the bagels you would find at a Dunkin Donuts. The only reason that I believe most people are ranking Bodo's so high is because its a Cville landmark and the young college kids like it.

I am writing this review for all the people who don't get why folks LOVE Bodo's. I think their bagels are quite good, and it IS a C'ville institution. However, the thing that gets them at least four stars from me is PRICE. You go to pretty much any bagel chain (Dunkin Donuts, Bruegger's) and while their bagels might be as good, their prices are not. Dunkin Donuts bagels are about as bland as you can get, especially since they use American cheese and I am pretty sure, reconstituted, precooked eggs. Blech. But it will still cost you MORE than Bodo's for a breakfast bagel! Bruegger's wants up to nine dollars for a freakin bagel sandwich. None of that nonsense at Bodo's. I personally think all of the food at Bodo's (especially considering their variety of vegetarian options) is quite tasty, but the cheap price makes it even better. And they have two housemade soups every day. Seriously, the only downside that people seem to come up with is that it's not the best bagel they've EVER had. I have lived in NY, and honestly, while I had some tasty bagels there, nothing life-changing or anything I'd prefer over Bodo's. Stop being Debbie Downers, people!

When the local college population awakens with a hangover and a growling stomach on Saturday and Sunday mornings this place gets hella busy. There are about four or five cashiers to sell bagels, bagels with toppings, and bagels. Maybe coffee here and there. Other than that, there are hundreds of people here at any given time just for some New York style boiled bagels. The bagels were decent, but a little too salty. I guess it's how they're cooked, but still, too salty. There was almost nowhere to sit even after waiting in line for ten minutes to buy our bagels, so we sent one of our group to scout out a table while we waited in line. Luckily we got an outside table, away from the din within.

These folks make the best bagels in town! But it doesn't stop there. Their sandwiches, soups and salads are not only healthy but absolutely delicious and the prices are great! Her's the deal: Bodo's has mastered Occam's razor. You know, that old saying that goes, "entia non sunt multiplicanda praeter necessitatem." Loosely translated: Keep it simple, stupid. Here's how they do it: consistently high-quality food, amazing customer service, and clean facilities. How simple is that? In nine years of eating regularly (multiple times per week) at Bodo's, I have never once been disappointed. Never once. Never. They keep it simple with an easy menu, dynamite customer service, and no frills.

This has to be one of the most over rated places I have ever been. The parking lot is teeming with traffic, the line is out the door, and the food is just awful. To be fair, the Caesar salad was very good. The chicken salad was made with gelatinous hunks of protein embedded in an overly heavy mayo dressing. These chunks only were recognizable as chicken after careful examination; I am a retired pathologist so I am good at recognizing abnormal forms of normal things. I was sure it was egg whites, but it was far more disturbing than that. The bagel is average at best. I just don't get it, but it was so disgusting that I will spend no additional effort to try to figure it out.

So ever since I got here, people seemed to have orgasms every time they talked about this place. "Ohh...it's sooo good!" "It's the greatest bagel ever!" I finally went to the Bagelry today and judging by the line out the door, I told myself that I better start pooping gold after I eat this bagel, cause this is ridiculous. I went up to the counter, ordered an Onion bagel with Herb Spread (a NY bagel place calling it a spread and not a smear? I thought this was suppose to be authentic). I sat down, I bit into it, and I thought, "Typical Charlottesville. You've fooled me once again with your hype of everything that's supposed to be awesome of this town." Bagel was fine. Not great, not bad, but I've definitely had better. I ain't waiting in line for it, but if someone bought a dozen, I'll take one. I just don't get what the big deal is. C-Villians need to get out more often and realize that there is life outside of this bubble. If you're from NY and you just HAAAVE to have your bagel fix, there's probably not a better place in town than here. But if Bagels aren't the center of your life, because you actually have one, then come by once in awhile and grab one if you want. For me, I'll wait till the next event that someone says they'll bring Bodos, and have my fix then.

OMG! The BEST bagels! Do yourself a favor and get a everything bagel and a Ceasar salad! So warm and delicious, also the sea salt, garlic, poppy seed flavors are so amazingly blended together! Perfect with anything on it! YUM YUM YUM! Oh and did I mention they serve flavored seltzer water! It is like heaven on earth!

Great bagels but not exactly what you get in NYC. Some say it is the water that tastes different but in practice the NY bagel is denser than the fluffy delicacies created at Bodos. I know so many people who put in at least a few months in at Bodos and still see people who when to my high school working there. I like the turkey, lettuce, tomato and mayo on a plain bagel with a pickle. Used to also like the 3 cheese melts back when I could eat the dairy. My girlfriend who grew up in NY laughs at me whenever I mention this place as being good, but NY's have a lot tied up in there connection to bagels. 5 stars for a C'ville institution.

No better place in town to get a sandwich on the cheap. I always get an everything bagel with tuna salad, bacon, onion, and lettuce, and every time it makes going back to work seem bearable. Once you have a bagel from Bodo's, you'll never want to get them at the grocery store again!

Bagels. I always thought bagels were like the dumpy, shy sister of donuts. Standing against the wall, hoping desperately someone would ask them to dance, while Donut got crowned Homecoming Queen and everyone chanted "KRISPY KREME!" Oh Bodo's, way to prove me wrong. You aren't just a bagel, Wishing You Were More. You ARE more. Bodo's, Bodo's. You teach a lesson to us all - transcending flavor, transcending even the realm of food, you enter the deeply philosophical to remind us: Do not judge by name, or genre. One bagel is not every bagel. Can a bagel teach the world to sing? Maybe not. But Bodo's gets pretty darn close.

You can't go to Charlottesville and not go to Bodo's. It is a Charlottesville institution. They have the best bagels anywhere. The service is quick. When I moved to Washington, DC, I could barely make it through a weekend without Bodo's bagels. The coffee isn't great, but I needed it on those mornings after college parties. My usual is an everything bagel (the best) with cream cheese. They are very generous on the toppings. My other choices all involve an everything bagel with a) fake cream cheese which is just as good, something like neufchatel, b) lox cream cheese, or avacado, salt, mayo, and tomato. My boyfriend gets the strange combo of everything bagel with PB&J. Also, try the Cleo salad- one of the best salads I've ever had! If you go to Charlottesville, you must get a Bodo's bagel. Many UVa students (myself included) would go there twice a day.

When you are hung over think your head is going to explode, it is time for some Bodo's. Best bagels I have had in VA aside from Bagel Buddies at Fair Lakes. Honestly, any bagel you try here will be fresh and delicious. Their sandwiches are incredible and the selection of meats/cheeses/toppings is fantastic for a bagel place. Don't miss out on their bagel pizza or breakfast sandwiches! Yessss!

I went to Charlottesville with BF for Labor Day weekend. He kept raving about it saying it's the best bagel ever - better than New York. I wouldn't say that but it's pretty damn good and close. Since he's been there (about 2 years ago), he says the menu has expanded and I'm glad. We had breakfast there and I ordered the everything with scrambled egg and sausage and oj. BF ordered 2 everything bagels with scrambled egg and bacon and water. Guess how much it cost? Guess... C'mon guess. Well, it was less than $10. Wow! On a side note, BF says the best bet is to ask what just came out of the oven but we forgot. Scott - if you're reading this, What's up from NYC!!!!

Alright. So while I still think the bagels themselves are pretty average, I somehow keep finding myself coming back to get their bagel sandwiches. In particular, a Chicken Salad sandwich with lettuce, onion, and tomato on an everything bagel. It's delicious. I think the key to this particular combination is the everything bagel. Once the chewy bagel is toasted, the bits of onion, garlic, sesame, and poppy seed add texture and savory flavors to the smooth, creamy, and refreshing chicken salad. Balance that with some fresh lettuce, tomatoes, and onions and you've got yourself a pretty wonderful (and addictive) sandwich.

I just don't get it yet. When I told people I was moving to Charlottesville, no fewer than three of my friends said, "ohmigod, you've got to check out this bagel place... Bodo's is the greatest." Maybe its like a movie that you can't fully enjoy because everyone has told you it is the greatest experience of your life. Pluses: crazy-cheap eats that ain't half bad. A bagel with lox and cream cheese for under 5 bucks is pretty much unheard of in this day and age. Service is surprisingly quick too. Minuses: the bagels *aren't bad.* That's not to say that they're all that good though. Where in Charlottesville can a guy find a real bagel? The kind that guarantees a good breakfast or lunch sandwich, that you'll buy half a dozen of and be set for the week? Bodo's is a decent meal at a great price, but overall I don't get why it's such a point of C'ville pride.

Why oh why do I love their chicken salad on an everything bagel so? Oh, right, because it's less than four dollars. It's a lovely, simply and oddly spongey chicken salad that's just perfect on a bagel. And they tasty salad with almond slivers. I love you too! Must have Bodos every single time I'm in Cville.

Without a doubt, the best bagels I have had in my life. Every time I am back in the 'ville I absolutely must visit Bodo's. Seriously. They're perfect. And, as a value whore, I have to say that the price is right, too. Probably my absolute favorite items are the 4-cheese bagel (melted) and ye olde breakfast bagel with egg, ham and american cheese. Bodo's means hangover food, Bodo's means wholesome food, it's just everything to me. I wish there were a Bodo's I could visit right now without taking a transcontinental flight.

A must-go in C-ville. The Caesar salad is GREAT- fresh lettuce, very garlicky, satisfying, and cheap ($3.50 for a filling portion). I've had a couple of their bagels, whole wheat and cinnamon raisin, which are also very tasty. I will admit that I'm not a bagel snob (ahem, expert) by any means. Sure, the bagels are a little chewy (which I kind of like), but if I'm not in NYC, why would I hold that against Bodo's? Anyway, I love that they give you the option of Neufchatel within their list cream cheeses. The soups look good, but I've never sampled. Great for a quick and savory bite!!

The bagels are a three-star. I've had amazing bagels in NYC, and these are pretty damn good, but not 4- or 5-star. The selection is great, and you can get a lot of combinations, all of which seem pretty tasty (I had four different types while there -- no I'm not a pig, I shared!). The staff is uneven -- one girl was super friendly to us, one guy was downright rude, which is totally not cool in a small college town. In DC, yeah, everyone's rude, so I'd expect it, but in Charlottesville, where everyone was nice, he really stood out and it kinda colored my perception of the place. Overall, a nice place to head to for breakfast or lunch. (And Chris M. I totes walked from the Mall in like 8 minutes, am I missing something? ^_^)

Some people are obsessed with Bodo's. Okay it's pretty good. I'll admit that. I'd attempt a backflip for a chicken salad on everything bagel. Secret Info: Did you know that the "chicken" in chicken salad is actually turkey? Hey, I still like it! Well, the parking lot and long lines inside get kind of ridiculous sometimes. But, people are willing to wait.

I used to get a breakfast bagel and coffee here pretty regularly when I worked in cville. It always hit the spot, although it gets a little busy in the morning. A Downtown Mall location would've been nice... how I wished for lunch bagels to be within walking distance of my office. Alas.

You know why Bodo's is a C'ville legend? Cause it rocks. Think of it.................a warm cinnamon raisin bagel with walnut raisin cream cheese first thing in the morning. Mmm yummy. All their bagels are the perfect texture of soft and chewy. Their selection of cream cheeses are good. Their sandwiches are tasty (my personal favorite is chicken salad). Oh and the potato salad? Damn my dear. Fan**tabulously herby and fresh tasting. The line sucks a little during peak periods, but it goes by really fast. Also this place brings back a sense of nostalgia for those days where I used skip first period for a bagel. So what if the corner location has "Coming Soon" on it's window for years. I want to see how much longer they'll leave it on there. I miss you Bodo's. Keep the sign up I'll be looking for it. ********** Update: The Corner location is now open! Their bagels are still incredible. Oh and the sandwich prices are $2-4 and individual bagels are $0.55 apiece. My lunch came out to less than $3.00 :-)

Bacon, egg and cheese sandwiches on a garlic bagels may not help you in the love department, but they will cure a hangover in no time. Best bagels I have ever, tied with Murray's in NYC and Mr. J's in Harrisonburg.

Best whole wheat bagel I think i've ever had. Went with the blueberry cream cheese, sounded great in my head, was a bit disappointed, I expected a blueberry punch of flavor- but really just tasted of cream. Pomegranate seltzer water was neat and refreshing. Great joint for some quick breakfast-

If you know what a REAL bagel is supposed to taste like, you'll find Bodo's is IT. Don't be scared off by the long, long lines...the staff are quick, and the wait is never as long as you imagine when the line is out the door on a sunny Saturday morning...endure. It's worth it.

I'm so glad I stumbled onto this place! Not a great location or a particularly attractive dining room - it's basically a Burger King painted white - but the bagel sandwiches are awesome and very cheap, and when was the last time you heard Liz Phair played at a bagel joint? The service was fast and superfriendly. I'm looking forward to visiting the other location - if this one had a little more atmosphere, I'd give it five stars.

Omg, bodos. I can't say that I know anything about new york bagels and what this was supposed to be, but I will say that it's amazingly delicious. Bodos is pretty cheap and has lightning-fast service (I've heard the manager is a stickler and demands that it be run that way). When I leave cville for a while, I get cravings for it. I think that's the real test of awesomeness.

MMM Bodo's, you are my first cville love. Especially when your bagels are warm and fresh. I love your plain bagels and everything bagels with all sorts of meaty combinations. Im so happy that you FINALLY opened your doors on the corner when I moved to Wertland my 4th year. It made some of my morning classes much more enjoyable. If you have never tried bodos, get in this place - right now. If you have, well then you know how good Bodo's really is.

Bodo's is a legend. I say this because I moved from Charlottesville when I went to college in Colorado and then moved to California after that and still I have not found a bagel shop that even slightly comes in at a close second to Bodo's. Trust me, I have tried because I love bagels more than any other bread and this place just knows the secret behind bagel baking. From an egg breakfast sandwich to a turkey lunch or even a shrimp salad sandwich you know it is AMAZING. The egg salad is hands down the BEST ever. I feel like Bodo's will always hold a special place in my heart. I visit Bodo's as if it were an old friend when I do come back to my hometown. You cannot make a bad menu decision at Bodo's because everything is perfect and the prices are cheap.

I grew up in Charlottesville and now live in New York. I frequent H & H bagels (considered the best bagel in NYC by most) and Bodos remains the best bagel that has graced my palette. I understand that taste is a matter of opinion, but please do not denigrate the bagel, the staff or the atmosphere to somehow stand out.

Wow, I can't believe this place hasn't gotten five stars all the way. First, the bagels are really good - no, not the best in the world, but really good. No, you cannot get the bagels toasted, but you'll get used to it and they are almost always warm anyway. Their sanwiches are fantastic. You can get egg bagel sandwiches any time of day. Their hummus is really good. Try the avocado or kalamata olive spreads. The salads are great. The coffee is also surprisingly good. Some of the magic of this place is how ridiculously fast they are. They seem to be a very friendly group of people (Bodo's pays pretty well) and they have a system that gets you your order in no time. Don't be scared off by a long line - it will fly. "Go there now." (Imagine it in James Lipton's voice)

The bagels aren't anything to write home about but I appreciate the freshness, the patio, and the friendliness. I got a whole wheat bagel with neufchatel cheese spread which I balanced on my little white paper plate until a table opened up outside. I must've stayed here for a good hour studying, people watching, etc. The "cup of joe" is a decent cup of coffee.

By far, the most efficiently-run bagel shop I've ever seen. And they have great bagels, bagel sandwiches, and salads (although the Caesar is really, really garlicky, I like it). I can't believe it takes sooooooo long for a new Bodo's to open up. Someone needs to duplicate the Bodo's model at other lame-o bagel shops.

At first I avoided Bodo's because it's always packed and I thought it was a lot of hype. When I finally did go I was disappointed by A) cash only and B) the cashier was unfriendly and snidely told me that "we don't toast our bagels. you can have it warmed." Ok, so you're wondering why I'm willing to give it 5 stars...well, I became addicted to the bagels. They're soft and fresh. The everything bagel isn't overwhelmed with salt or poppy seeds like many everything bagels can be. I love their bacon, egg, and cheddar on an everything bagel. They don't skimp on meat or cheese. The Bojo (coffee) is always really hot and flavorful, which suprised me, as most breakfast places that focus on an item (ie bagel, pancake, donut) will often have mediocre coffee. It's hard to forgive the unfriendly service I received, especially when you hear the owner speak arrogantly as he tends to do. What can I say, I guess I'll take the mediocre customer service if it means quick lines and delicious bagels.
