This is what you expect from a typical college sports bar. Downstairs has a few pool tables and allows smoking.

Good place to get smashed watch the game and hang with locals

This place has trivia, which is a bonus and earns it a fourth star. The food is the same as every other Americana bar downtown, where none of them stand out. This place has the extremely annoying habit of requiring you to put big nasty permanent ink marks on your hand if you are over 21. I hate that shit, give us a bracelet.

One of my favorite bars to eat in! I come here for the .40 cent wing special and love the honey bbq wings. Hands down best cheese fries in all of Blacksburg. Only thing they are lacking is a solid happy hour drink special.

Don't let the atmosphere or the college student aged clientele keep you away. The food at Champs is excellent. For me, they have the best cheese steak in town. The cheese fries are great and you can get them as a side if you don't want the full size appetizer. Today I had the grilled cheese deluxe and it was fantastic. A hidden gem on the menu. Sure it's typical college town bar food but it's some of the best Blacksburg has to offer. The only thing missing is a better beer selection but you can't have it all.

Love the bar! Love the drinks! Love the employees and crowd there. All around a good experience.

Champs defines a sports bar. There are TVs on every corner with every major game on. There are wings, nachos, and sandwiches. And there is cheap beer and plenty of it. If you are going for college football, i.e. a VT game, get there early because you won't be able to find a seat. The NFL games are a bit easier to get to but nonetheless the tables will fill up. The happy hour specials are good but not great when compared to Sharkey's but the availability of pool, shuffle board, darts, and room to move around make it more than worthwhile. As previous reviewers noted, it is smokey because well it is a bar. Also, they do stamp your hands which while not as difficult as some bars aka. Sharkey's to come off, it does take considerable scrubbing. Onto the food. The Cafe at Champs has your typical bar fare with a couple of upscale notes. The Champs Club and American Burger are really good. The daily specials are almost always worth getting. Try the wings and catfish strips too, both are very good. The bartenders are good and will give you a strong drink if you ask for it. The servers are very attentive and friendly too.

The few times I have gone here to watch a sporting event, they had the music blasting insanely loud with no volume on the game. Good food with decent service. Good place to go shoot some pool or play some darts.

Champs is just another sports bar in downtown Blacksburg. They have pretty decent food though, and the drinks are reasonably priced. They have some big screens which are good for watching games. There are a few games that they have available to play, including a pool and darts. Service was usually pretty friendly and attentive.

Champ's was my bar when I was at Tech. Great place to go out at night and a great place for football on Sundays. Sometimes it can get overrun with fratties but usually it's not so bad. Pool, darts and great bartenders.

I go here every sunday in the fall to watch the NFL games. Its pretty easy to get a seat, and they have an entire wall of tvs and pretty much get every game. The food is alright, and the waitresses are all hot college chicks, so that's definitely a plus. There are sometimes a lot of obnoxious Eagles and Cowboys fans, but all in all, its a good place to watch some games.

This place is horrendous! While they do offer a lot of games (pool, shuffleboard, etc) and such, their service is just horrible. I would give it 0 stars if I could. A large group of us came here the other day. It is right after graduation so as expected, Blacksburg is a ghost town. Considering the fact that we were bringing business to a place with only a handful of people there before we showed up, you'd think we'd get decent service, but no. The waitress was BEYOND rude. She kept saying something about having to deal with undergrads and serving all the people that came for Graduation all week. I mean I get that it's tiring, but that doesn't mean you can drop the ball and be a jerk to everyone who comes in. It also doesn't mean that ANYONE came to this bar to hear this girl complain about her job. She was short and just so disinterested in doing her job. We wanted to get some food and when we looked at the menu, a girl in our group asked if there was anything gluten free on the menu that she could suggest. She quickly snapped that they "don't serve gluten free food and that she should go somewhere else like The Cellar." My friend has been to Champs several times before and each time, they have been able to accommodate her needs happily. Truth of the matter is, there were items on the menu that could be made gluten free, but the bartender just didn't seem to want to be bothered by it. We all found it especially rude. My friend decided to not let this lame girl put a damper on her day so she just went to the other room and played some games with the other people we were with. Fast forward to a few minutes later. The guys in our group were getting hungry and decided maybe they'd try to order some food. When one of them went up to order, the girl told him they "didn't have anymore food." WHAT?! She said this to his face as other people around him were getting served all kinds of food. I don't know what her deal was and I really don't care - there's no excuse for that kind of behavior. I wish we would have said something to the manager because her attitude was out of control. She SUCKED. We decided to go somewhere else after we finished our drinks because clearly nothing good was going to come of sticking around at this place. All 10 of us left and took our business to some of the other places downtown and we had an easy time getting better service . The thing that baffles me most is that it's SUMMER in Blacksburg. Nobody is here. There's no reason you should act like you are stretched so thin that you can't provide good service. Oh well, lesson learned. Neither of us will ever go to this horrendous bar again and we'll go ahead and let our departments know not to have any functions here either. THE WORST.

The food is very good like most places in Blacksburg and the prices are nice during Happy Hour. However, the bar staff is not always the friendliest but I would have a hard time with dealing with that many drunk people also. The place is pretty run down and could really use an overhaul in the interior. But who I am kidding...we go there to drink and let loose. The upstairs is pretty unbearable during peak hours after 10pm (hot and super crowded) but the cafe downstairs can be a little better (but it is smoking). However, overcrowding is a issue at most bars in Blacksburg.

A few buddies and I came here for a Thursday night happy hour one night decided that besides being "thirsty" we were hungry as well. So, naturally I opted for the wings because, yes, you guessed it, that's my Achilles's heel. Of course, I ordered the hottest they had. I'll say that I wasn't expecting much from this sports bar that caters to the college crowd. But boy was I wrong. The waiter brought out 12 piping hot wings, and when he placed them on the table, my nostrils flared up and my eyes began to water. I was excited. I took one bite and was impressed. The chicken was juicy and the sauce was perfect; a nice blend of scorching heat and sweetness that I very seldom find in a hot wing. I finished all of them with a nice sweat forming on my brow and my mouth left ablaze. A few other times we ordered the typical bar food, you know, cheese fries and chicken fingers, all of which are very good and lend to the atmosphere of the place. This is by no means a place to bring a date, unless that date involves football jerseys and several other screaming fans. But, as a sports bar, Champs meets the requirements. So, if you're looking for a bar atmosphere with good bar food, champs is a great place to go.

It's a really small bar and it gets really packed on weekends, the music sucks, typical college crowd, and its really hard to get a drink because the bar is so crowded. The drinks however are strong and cheap.

It's definitely a college bar, but then... in Blacksburg what bar isn't decorated with Hokie colors whether it be on the patrons or the walls? I met some friends in the upstairs section of Champs to catch up, enjoy some drinks and almost win at shuffle board. I'm not typically a fan of college bars, but it wasn't as obnoxious as college bars could be. Spring break may have facilitated that. Either way, the service was great and there were no hitches in the evening. A solid sports/college bar.
