Probably the best spot in Bedford.... It is a cute little set up next to the train track....warm and charming ambiance with the full train station theme. The food was good - I had the veggie burger and a side salad. My friends had the grilled chicken salad - which was a plump fresh chicken breast - not frozen or strips that you'll find at an Applebee's type of place. All in all - quite good. I'd go back if in Bedford again....

Great food. Friendly wait staff. The soup (cream of tomato) and sandwich combination was delicious. The chicken salad plate was wonderful with the chicken perfectly seasoned and chunky. Don't miss the three berry strudel! We will definitely be back.

Great food, excellent service! Fun decor! Great fried green tomato BLT!

The food is okay, nothing great. Most of the other reviewers giving it high ratings live out in the boonies. Not that there's anything wrong with that! It's just that they don't have a lot to compare with. If you're at this restaurant, you're there because you generally have to drive 10 - 30 minutes just to find food (anywhere), or you're passing through as we were. The place is cute with it's railroad setting. It's just pretty mediocre all around. The catfish, which everybody seemed to rave about is cooked in a batter that is just so salty. If you're the type that sits down and puts salt on your food before you taste it, you may like it. For us, it approached inedible. The corn pudding was okay. The salad - meh.... There was a small candle lamp on our table, so I asked one a waitress (not ours - she just happened to be folding napkins at the serving station next to us) if she could light it. She said "Sorry, I don't have any matches." Okay, uh, can't you ask someone for us or just relay it to our waitress - I mean, jeez, help each other out. I'll eat here again if I'm stuck in the area. But I won't be salivating to get here...

This place has perfected fried catfish! Great sweet tea and corn pudding. Neat ambiance I gladly live "in the boonies," do not add salt to my food, and know how to use apostrophes correctly.

Fabulous food, great service. And a BIG bonus: two trains roared by while we were eating! Since this restaurant is located on an old railroad building on the tracks, the two trains going by made it special

Grabbed dinner here before heading out to our campsite at Peaks of Otter - what a fun and genuine dining experience! True to its name, it's a former railroad station and has maintained the same structure and even displays train memorabilia throughout the restaurant. Super fun for both kids and adults! Food was satisfying, fresh, and affordable: -Fried Green Tomatoes: generous portion, crunchy, flavorful, and we ended up scraping off the breading on the last few slices - healthier and just as delicious! -House Salad: included eggs, bacon, and cheddar cheese which I wasn't expecting; still yummy. -complimentary Bread rolls with seasonal flavored-butters; tried a raspberry one which was divine. -Salt and Pepper Catfish: fish was very fresh and the batter was light but too salty for my taste; scraped off some of the batter, added a good squeeze of lemon, and it was perfect. During our visit in May 2014, they had no draft beer - only bottled. A little strange because there's a designated bar area off to the side and most bars have at least a few beers on draft, but apparently plans for beers on tap are in the works! Robin was a really pleasant server and attentive without being overbearing. Overall, a nice experience at Olde Liberty Station.

Cute spot!! Our family really enjoyed our lunch! My daughter and I both had the blue plate special: Baked Spaghetti. My husband had a Rueben! Highly recommend.

I've eaten here twice and the service and food was impeccable. The first time I had the crab dip and crab topped tilapia with creamed spinach and twice baked potato. OMG!!! I have not had food so good in a long time. The service was great. My sweet tea was perfect and my glass was never empty. I got hooked on their home made peach cobbler (to die for). On my second visit the wait staff could see me craning my neck to see out of the window to check my dog. They ever so kindly allowed my son and I to sit on the patio (the weather was great) and let my dog Bailey be out side on the patio too. That meant the world to me. So on top of the super tender N & W prime rib with au jous and horseradish cream dipping sauce for me and salt and pepper catfish for my son. They took care of my puppy too. I think this was the best find in the area.

Went for a special birthday luncheon one day. Food wasn't anything spectacular. I would definitely go back again, but it wasn't anything to brag about. Maybe next time.
(3)Cyndi B.
This was an amazing find! Great layout, decor and staff. The menu had lots of choices from salads, sandwiches and entrees. My husband ordered the maple glazed pork tenderloin that came with green beans and mashed potatoes. I ordered the fried green tomato BLT. My BLT came with one side so I selected the beer cheese soup. For dessert we had the peach cobbler and key lime pie. All of our food was awesome!!!! We will definitely return whenever we are in the Bedford area. The staff and management were all very sweet and very outgoing !

To drive two hours on a Friday , to celebrate an in laws birthday , I did not have much expectations! You know the reason for the event was more important than the food! Well I realize that the good people of Liberty station realize that too! As good as the food was, the special attention and care from the staff that much more! I was amazed by the special care they gave my father inlaw on his birthday! I think we sung happy birthday at least twice ! Not only were we celebrating a family memory but several others were also and all were getting the same attention. omg ,the waitresses were even harmonizing happy Birthday for another table! , the sweet sound! Ok now for the food: I had a rib eye with the standard bake potatoe and salad! Salad was good and crisp! I could have ate it without salad dressing. The rib eye was tender and cooked correctly but a little cool , but for a party of 12 and trying to get everyone's order on time was more important! The bread was cold but very good! All in all a very good experience! The service was great and food was good! If you are looking for a great family experience this is a good place! Thanks!

Wonderful experience on our first visit. Lunch rib special perfect. The fried green tomato's were breaded and fried on a bed of onion rings. Coffee and finished it off with three berry strudel. Would recommend and return again before we return home.

We really enjoy the Liberty Station and most everyone in the area does, too. That adds up to some serious wait times. Unfortunately, they only accept reservations for groups larger than our family size: I think 10 is the magic number. The fried catfish is my favorite and the steaks are usually very good. I can't think of a time where I had a meal that was not good or better. The best dessert item on the menu is the berry strudel. Only rarely has the service not been as expected. The prices are reasonable and less than the Ruby Tuesday. They are closed on Sunday except for some special days, like Mother's Day. However, the large number required for a reservation is a definite drawback.

Surprisingly good food. Friendly place. Everything about it was just great. If you're in this neck of the woods and want a nice dinner, go here!

I'm here on business for the week & due to a limited selection of real restaurants in Bedford & the awesome menu here, I decided to eat lunch here every day & try something new each time. :) For starters, the sweet tea is awesome! For my first lunch I chose an appetizer, the Pepper Jack Cheese Sticks with ----- dipping sauce. Yum! It's like a mozzarella stick, but they use pepper jack cheese instead. It's not very breaded at all, but a very generous amount of cheese in each stick. It comes with 6, but I could only eat 5 before I was stuffed. My second lunch was their Chicken Salad Sandwich - homemade chicken salad on a toasted croissant. I opted for onion rings instead of chips (you can swap any side free except salad, which cost a little extra). It comes with a honey mustard/thousand island combo which is really yummy with the onion rings. My food came out so fast, I swear I wasn't there longer than 10 minutes. Piping hot & fresh, it was delicious! My third lunch was their half sandwich with soup. Creamy Tomato soup was the soup of the day, & the sandwich was chicken on foccaitta bread. It was all very good, & I'm usually not a tomato soup person - but it was good. I also tried a slice of their Butterfinger cheesecake. YUM! The service was great. The atmosphere was great. Very quaint restaurant - good for groups or singles. I'll absolutely go back anytime I'm in the Bedford area!

4th visit to this restaurant-Hostess was very polite and quick to seat us. Waitress was terrible- Angela M. We had to ask for the bread that is normally provided with our meal- I was confused at first thought they may be out until our waitress served the two tables seated after us with bread, she brought out our meals incomplete and never checked back in with us until we were finished with our food. Food was delicious.

What a nice find! (TY Yelp!) We had a lovely dinner here...The fried green tomatoes were awesome & the dill dipping sauce it came w/was so good! My daughter got the best catfish that any of us had ever eaten, my husband's ribs were delish, my creamed spinach was great & the corn pudding was similar to my great grandmother's recipe! We met the very friendly owner who was so very gracious...even gave us a slice of the cheesecake, as it was our first visit. It won't be our last!

This was a pleasant surpirse. Driving into Bedford on our way to Peaks of Otter I found this by way of Yelp. Love Yelp! Beware there are so weird crossroads here. I almost was run over by a women driving quickly down a hill. This place is right on the railroad tracks, because it was once an active station. When you walk in you find a mostly wooden decored room that is charming and welcoming. Based on previous reviews I opted for the pepper jack cheese sticks. I loved them, but i was not crazy about the raspberry sauce. It tasted like cherry juice. We also ordered the fried green tomatoes with a dill type sauce. I loved this one through and through. I was definitely on a streak as my sandwich, a smoked turkey with roasted red peppers and italian dressing was delicious. The meat was salty in the perfect way and the dressing and peppers really created a harmony on my palate. Almost all members of my party enjoyed their meals. Except one who ordered the grilled chicken breat sandwich. He said it was bland. One cool thing was the train track. It is still active. Trains flew by, I thought it was neat and not too loud. The staff are really friendly. Our waitress was a bit slow with taking our orders and left the table three times when she would forget something, not sure if this was due to our party being one of 7. But she was very good in all other aspects so no one minded.

Train station turned restaurant this historic landmark was rebuilt after a fire that nearly destroyed it years earlier. The launching point for the Bedford Boys makes it a must stop for anyone visiting the area. Ambiance: The restaurant is perfectly decorated with memorabilia from the past with a puedo ticket office, now the hostess station, greeting you as you walk in the door. The bench seats mimicking the one passengers sat upon while waiting their train and the long horizontal structure of the building bring it all together. Staff and Service: Couldn't have asked for a more friendly and helpful group of individuals. From the multiple young hostesses to our server to the manager everyone was kind and quick with service Dinner and Drinks: The bartender made my usual dirty martini perfectly. The bar itself was stocked with a fairly good supply of liquors but don't look for the "rare high end" brands of whiskey, vodka, etc. I started with the fired green tomatoes and they were perfect. I am a fan of this dish so I can a little critical but nothing wrong here. For my meal it was the Rock Island Ribeye, which was their prime rib thrown on the grill. I've had this before but the chef clearly understood the exact amount of time needed on the grill to make it right. The meal came with Sweet Potato Casserole, Creamed spinach and 3 types of bread in a single basket with a cinnamon butter. I finished the dish off with fresh coffee and the Three Berry Strudel. Everything was fantastic. Cleanliness: clean and comfortably large bathrooms that are still based on the design of a transportation hub but modernized well. Overall: 5 Stars. I love this place and look forward for the opportunity on getting back there one day. If you happen to dine here be sure to take the time to look at all the pictures, wall painting, clothing trunk and replica of the original station before your meal while waiting your desert. You'll be glad you did.

I seldom describe places as adorable but Olde Liberty Station is ADORABLE!!! Good food and friendly service. That plus you're dining in a really charming place. ( yelp.com/biz_photos/_NCz… ) Came here for lunch with my family and I must admit I was really excited to come here. My folks have mentioned Olde Liberty Station on several occasions but I never quite made it here. We had intended to have dinner here during my previous visit but that was after the fire so we were looking forward to seeing the remodel - and all I can say is that they've done an amazing job. The old charm of the place has been kept but with modern yet rustic looking fixtures that freshen up the place. It's really quaint. We split some appetizers to begin. ( yelp.com/biz_photos/_NCz… ) The crab dip was rich and creamy - we devoured that pretty quickly with the accompanying crispy flat-bread. The wing dings were nicely fried. Unlike most places, the wings aren't drowning in sauce because it's served on the side here. I had the Country Corner plate with fried chicken ( yelp.com/biz_photos/_NCz… ) as my entree and it's definitely comfort food with the sides of mashed potatoes and green beans. I was hoping for bone-in fried chicken but this was more like chicken-fried chicken. It was still mighty tasty though with the delicious gravy generously doused over the perfectly fried chicken. We had the best server who personified Southern hospitality. She was friendly yet attentive and always made sure my glass of sweet tea never went empty. When you add it all up, there is just much to love about Olde Liberty Station. It is simply a charming and adorable place to dine at y'all.

This place is exceptional. My first visit and it was great. Wasn't happy with the 45 minute wait, but the food was worth it. Had the ribeye and it was melt in our mouth tender. The glaze on the plate is not chocolate...haha

This place is great! I've been here a couple of times, and the service is friendly and efficient, and the food is delicious. I'm only giving 4 stars, because I've really only had one thing here -- I ordered it both times I went, because I loved it so much: a turkey reuben, with the coleslaw swapped for sauerkraut. It is so melty and scrumptious. But I think next time, I'll order something different, just so I can update my review and (hopefully) give the full 5 stars.

chicken salad and chicken panini were excellent. chicken was moist and flavorful and plenty of chicken on the salad. both were under $20 total. cool atmosphere

Stopped in for lunch on my way up the Blue Ridge Parkway when I had a snow detour up in the mountains Friday. Walked in and the owner personally made sure I was seated immediately. My server gave me plenty of time to look at the menu. Ordered a crab cake sandwich with mash potatoes and broccoli . Delicious and fast service. The owner Harry came around to check n all the tables and we had a nice chat as I finished my lunch. Told him when my wife and I are down this way I will stop in again. This establishment is a gem in a beautifully refurbished train station.
(5)Daniel W.
Very cool atmosphere. Decent prices for what you get. I had the soup of the day and it was wonderful. Their fried pepper jack cheese sticks with a sweet raspberry sauce was probably one of the best appetizers I've ever had. The cheesecake was also very good.
(4)CLAUDIA L.
While traveling, we stopped by for an appetizer and drink. The crab dip was good, not excellent, but good. The flat bread served with the dip was deep Fried - would have been better toasted or plain. Bloody Mary was spicy with horse radish and great. Service was excellent. We would return for dinner.

Foods great! Never had an issue with it. The only problem we've had is with the service. I'm a waitress and a stickler on service. Seems EVERYTIME I go there the salad takes forever and my food comes right out behind it. And if you have a complaint I'd suggest you give it to someone's other than the manager named Heather. To say she's a b***** is putting it lightly. It's pretty apparent she's a "my way or the highway" type of person. In the way that a doctor has to have good "bedside manner". And restaurant manager should have good "table side manners". Still love the food... Just get it to go now.

I was so excited to go to the old liberty station!!!! Unfortunately I left extremely unsatisfied. My server was very friendly, but my steak that I ordered medium rare came out well done. I sent it back only for it to come out a second time cooked incorrectly. Hoping the third time would be the charm and they would get it right, you wouldn't believe it but they cooked it wrong again! Finally the owner felt the need to come speak to me. I personally think he should of came and spoke to me the first time, not waiting till my food was wrong for the third time!!! I really can not believe this happened. Then to top it off the owner came out to give me some car salesman lie about how a steak is still rare even though there's no blood. (Instead of owning up to his cooks mistake, he made me feel like I did something wrong!) So I come out of my way to visit this restaurant that is "so good" only to not get what I was asking and paying for and then to have the owner insult my intelligence by telling me a steak is rare even though there is no pink. Are you serious? Okay I decided I'm going to let them make up for it and get dessert. The cheesecake that they are sooooo famous for is nothing but old frozen cheese cake that they don't even allow to thaw out completely before serving it. The server actually told me they had a whole building outside to hold nothing but their frozen cheesecakes! That is so gross, how long are those cheesecakes in there?!? And they were so proud of their product! The plate that the cheesecake was on literally had some nasty drool on it from where the cheesecake was frozen. I think that the management was extremely rude and I will never go back there, nor will I recommend anyone there. I will be sure to spread my story. I think that it is so sad that something that is such a historical place is so poorly ran.

In this town (Bedford, VA) this food IS as goo as it gets, I promise you. My wife and I absolutely loved this place - all of their food was delicious. We are going back tonight, but it is a great atmosphere and shockingly cheap prices - check it out if you are in the area!
(5)Steven S.
I am proud to say that there is a small town Virginia restaurant that is consistent and tasty enough to stand with a big city outpost. Olde Liberty Station isn't earth-shaking menu-wise, but it is exceptionally well-priced and professional, while still maintaining a small-town feel.
(5)Daniel P.
This is a solid restaurant. To start with the negatives. On occasion you may get a bad member of the wait-staff or an overcooked entree, or a slice of blueberry cheesecake that is a bit frozen. For this reason, the Station lacks consistency and can not in my opinion be rated as a 5 star establishment. This being noted, the food is great and reasonably priced. I highly recommend the cheese sticks and the fried green tomatoes. From my personal history here and with my table guests in our opinion the higher end cuts of steak may leave something to be desired. Overall though you can tell that some care was put into the menu and the food is never 'bad.' It's fantastic at it's best and mediocre at it's worst. In contrast to the other options int he town like Ruby Tuesdays / Applebees where the food is mediocre at its best the Stations stands out as a respectable Bedford destination.
(4)Roy E.
My wife and I had a wonderful evening. From the hostess to our waitress we felt extremely welcomed. The food was reasonably prices an excellent quality. We will return again soon.
(4)Kat T.
I love, love, love this place! The crab bisque and chicken half sandwich (on sundried tomato bread) was fabulous. Tried fried green tomatoes for the first time and it was wonderful with their very own taziki sauce. (I think that's how you spell that) The wait staff was superb. No errors on the orders, even though we were a large party and the general manager was working the room. He visited every table in the restaurant and checked in with the guest. I was definitely charmed by this restaurant in Bedford, VA! If you are ever around to visit the D-Day Memorial, make it a point to stop by this lovely restaurant.
(5)Donnie C.
Best place in Bedford but that's not saying much. When your only competition is applebees and ruby tuesdays its easy to get by with decent food. Most of the staff are very good though and i've been going here off and on for probably 10 years. Its about a 50/50 chance if the food will be good. If you can afford gas then drive to Roanoke or Lynchburg.
(3)Arleen Y.
I concur with everyone else that this place can 'toot it's own horn'! This charmingly renovated train station is the perfect whistle stop for lunch or dinner. Enjoy large portions at reasonable prices, such as their fried green tomatoes appetizer, fried catfish entree or their famous 'Henry's cheesecake' for dessert!
(5)Beth S.
Amazing lunch served with warm homemade rolls (three grains in one big roll) & cherry butter with bottomless sweet tea. Orange poppy seed dressing for salad (real bacon bits and sliced hard boiled egg) and tomato, bacon, cheddar quiche for me. Soup & 1\2 sandwich for him..broiled chicken breast with bacon and cheese on focaccia bread and barley florentine soup. The owner came to check on us and talked us into a slice of Butterfingers cheesecake. Super delicious!
(5)Howard F.
Simply, a lovely place to dine with terrific food, modest prices, and the wonderful atmosphere of a beautifully restored old train station. This is my 3rd time eating here and each time the food was perfect - making great use of fresh local produce. If you're in the area, its the place to go.
(4)Frank H.
My wife and I ate here on a recent visit to Bedford. The food was good and the service was friendly. We split a rack of ribs and they were perfectly prepared. The restaurant is an old Train Station, so it is a bit noisy. I would definitely go back. I think most of the other reviewers captured the details well.
(4)Brian G.
We had to wait because of our large party size, but boy was it worth it. Amazing food, outstanding service, and a fun atmosphere. I had the smoked turkey ciabatta sandwich with bacon and cranberry cream cheese. Amazing. All the food at our table got eaten. No to go boxes. Only regret we did not get a chance to do dessert.
(5)Jonathan F.
We do not come here often but the food is excellent nearly everytime. My dad loves the catfish and I order the ribs nearly everytime. The lunch sandwiches are really good too. The place is also well known for their cheesecake. I recommend the pumpkin cheesecake if given the chance.
(4)Ellen M.
I have been told many times that I should go here and I certainly do not mind paying for a good meal but I won't go until they take reservations. I just called to make a reservation and was told they do not take them for parties under 10. I asked what time I should come if I do not want to wait and I was told 4:00 pm. Who wants to have dinner at 4:00 pm? I hate waiting, as many people do and if you are going to present yourself as a great restaurant than reservations should be a must!
(1)Alyssa M.
Great food. Great atmosphere. Reasonable pricing. Definitely stop in to see the old train station, and try the food. They have great fried green tomatoes, and the side salads are fully loaded. Yum.
