Have had excellent food & service from here of late. Must be working on something! Good stuff.

Had eaten here once before, decided to try it again. Disappointing portions, especially for the price. The smoked pork was dry, chewy, barely warm and fatty. Ordered the brisket and when it arrived, everyone at our table was surprised to see three lonely thin slices laying forlornly in the little paper tray. We thought there must be a mistake, so I went to the counter and asked "is this the normal portion of beef for a $10.99 plate?" "yup - that's the portion." wow. A "plate" vs. just a sandwich, for an additional $3 gets you two little styro cups of whatever sides you request. Cornbread comes tangled up in a bit of saran wrap. On the positive side, the ambiance is nice, service is quick, sauces & sides are tasty. Needs work: portions, and the BBQ meat.

I was so excited to see another BBQ nearby. The atmosphere is awesome, what a BBQ place should be. I ordered the pulled pork platter with beans and fries. The fries were awesome. Fresh cut, and piping hot. YUM. The beans, I think next time I will pass on them. Not really impressed...too much tanginess and not enough bean flavor. I tried out two of the sauces, the red and yellow. On it's own, the yellow was fantastic, but on the meat, I think the red went better. The cornbread was spectacular, and it was so much food I couldn't finish it all. I liked the peanuts while waiting for the food. All together the bill was $13. Not bad for the serving of meat, and everything else. The service was fantastic as well. If this place takes off like I think it might, seating might be an issue, there isn't a LOT of it there. The only suggestion I could make is to serve the meat at a hotter temperature. Mine felt almost as if it were room temp. It wasn't dry at all...so I don't think it was sitting around, just not quite warm enough. But overall, I will defintely be going back and it's ohhhhh so convenient to pick up dinner on the way home! Sooooo happy about this place.

This place is doing it right. Being a native Texan, I am rather skeptical of BBQ cooked anywhere other than a hole dug into the ground but this is the closest I've found to my home state's level of quality. TRY THE BBQ RANCH BEANS. They are not the sweet, sticky, nasty baked beans like you get at most places. They're savory, a little spicy, a little sweet, and LOADED (I'm not kidding, really loaded) with chunks of beef. I haven't found this style of bean since I left home and they taste like God stuck his finger in them while they were simmering. Service is always perfect, the smoked chicken is incredible, the variety of sauces is nice and taste authentic, and they have PBR. Winner all around.

This place is great. Ive been here a few times and the BBQ chicken is delicious. I'm not an expert on BBQ nor do I claim to be one but in all honesty I think this place has the best BBQ chicken by FAR in the Northern Virginia area. Most places are usually all dry but these guys get it right.

Urban BBQ is, in my opinion, just OK. The meat does not taste like it comes from a legit pit smoker. Instead, it tastes like it comes from an electric smoker that leaves an overbearing smoke taste kind of like liquid smoke. The ribs were a little tough, the pulled pork and chicken was not really pulled, but chopped, and was pretty dry, the sliced brisket was a little tough as well. The sides are decent, with a more diverse selection than nearby Carolina Brothers, although not necessarily better. I like that Urban has an interesting and diverse menu. Urban BBQ tends to be more oriented to Texas style BBQ over Carolina Brothers NC style BBQ and it shows in the kitschy "Texas Roadhouse" motif with lots of corrugated tin and knick knacks. It appears to be pleasant place for a sit down meal That being said, the food just doesn't blow me away. Not disgusting or even terrible, but compared to its competition in the area , Carolina Brothers, it is not as good. An underwhelming experience all in all.

I am giving this five star because I think this is the best barbeque in Loudoun. I am from Chicago and I grew up on thee best que and i hate to say this doesn't top it but overall I was happy. I'm a fan of the pulled pork, and hubby loves the pulled chicken. Surprisingly the collard greens were delicious! I do recommend giving this a try. I would describe it as a better quality Red Hot n blue or a better quality Famous Dave's. i also suggest to dine in, taste better.

Very Carolina. Not really my thing. However I can't knock it, still pretty good.

Being the DC area, there aren't very many good BBQ places. Urban BBQ happens to rise above the crowd of mediocre BBQ. Their collard greens are clearly cooked in a very amazing amount of bacon and bacon grease. The BBQ-Ranch beans have large delicious hunks of brisket floating in them. The brisket itself is a little dry, but easy fixed with any of their BBQ sauce. They have a great variety of soft drinks as well as beers. With Victory and Dogfish Head on tap, you know you can't go wrong here beerwise. While not from this location, I have ordered huge amounts of ribs from them for a party and they were simply fantastic. I definitely suggest Urban BBQ for BBQ in the DC region.

Best BBQ I've had in nova!!! Their brioche rolls are very good - much like the ones Fuddruckers uses. The coleslaw is excellent - perfectly crisp. And the fries - oh my - just like boardwalk fries...delish!! I got the pulled pork sandwich and it was great because there were nice big chunks, not just the shredded stuff. Can't wait to go back and try more things!

I was surprised to find this place. It's very unique, it has a "mom and pop" feel. The owner served me and was very helpful. This would be a great place to go on Sunday to watch a game.

Very good. I had not heard of it but a coworker suggested it so I was happy to try a new BBQ place. A pretty extensive menu but a bit light on the number of sides to choose from. I had a smoked pork sandwich with a side of collard greens. The sandwich had a nice smokey flavor with some tasty spices. The collard greens were very good with just a few bits of ham. Lots of hot sauces to choose from. Only a few sauces but the red sauce and Carolina sauce is all I needed. The Texas sweet tea was just right - not too sweet. The Georgia peach sweet tea didn't do it for me - more tea than sweet. Overall, a solid BBQ place. One other quick note - they have shelled peanuts to munch on so those with nut allergies, be aware. The peanuts seemed pretty contained though. Depending on the severity of your allergy, it could be an issue or it could be fine.

Someone must have slipped this place into operation while I was asleep a few months ago. Just found it, and I'm sold. They have all the traditional BBQ items such as pulled pork & chicken, beer, sausage, chicken, ribs, etc., even a comprehensive selection of innovative burgers. I had the "Urban Legend" which is Fritos covered with chopped brisket, sliced sausage, beans, onions, and cheese. Also a side of sweet tater tots. I died, went to heaven, and it was here! Check out their menu; there are many other surprises and also a pretty good kids menu. There are some neat things on the dessert menu like a Fried Twinkie Sunday, but I was way too full to try any. Yep, I'll be back!

Wow! I can not say enough great things about this place. The staff is really friendly. The food is.... Awesome. The side dishes are spectacular... Fries, potato salad, Mac n cheese.... All a must have. You will get A LOT of food for your money here. The hubby and I had beers, an appetizer, and two platters for under $40 and we brought home half of it because there was so much. We will be back!

  • Scott B.

Had the smoked pork sandwich. Pretty good taste but the pork and the bread were a little dry. I liked the sauces ( we tried them all) and my wife's cornbread was excellent. Perhaps a little on the pricey side, but overall a Good solid effort. We'll definitely come back again.

BBQ is always hard to rate simply because some BBQ can be better than others in a given region, but considering BBQ as a whole a place can be just average. Case and point is VA. I have yet to experience an unbelievable BBQ place in this area, but nonethless have had some solid experiences. If you're in the mood for BBQ then I would recommend this place. My meal of choice is always Pulled Pork with Collard Greans and Baked Beans. The Pulled Pork is ok - I can't say its incredible but it's not so bad that it prevented me from going back. The Collard Greens are solid and the Baked Beans are good as well. Corn Bread is better than most BBQ places I have been to - including NYC. They have a variety of 4 different sauces: One is a hot BBQ sauce but I would classify it more as a runny hot sauce with a little bit of BBQ base to it. They also have your traditional BBQ sauce, and a carolina base sauce. The service is really solid. I always get my food within 5 minutes of ordering and the people are very friendly there. This place is good enough that I have come back on a few occasions. If you're used to unbelievable BBQ from the south or from good places in NYC then I can promise you that this place isn't going to be as good. If you haven't been to many BBQ places before and are in the mood for it then I'd say this place is a safe bet. My Experience: 3+ visits Food Quality: 6 out of 10 Service: 9.5 out of 10 Overall: 7 out of 10

Probably the best BBQ I have had in Va. The staff was super friendly and the place was very clean and cuts.

Best beef brisket I've had in a long time! I highly recommend the Razorback Burger too! Great beer list as well!

This is the best Q that I have had since leaving the Midwest. I understand that our nations capitol and surrounding areas are not known for "world Class" Q, but Urban Bar-B-Que is up in the stratosphere even compared to the Q from Tennessee, Texas and Oklahoma. My wife & I thoroughly enjoyed it. The people are what made the place memorable - or was it the food - or was it the people - O-Well - Job Well Done. I encourage anyone who likes good service & great Q to head over to UBQ!

  • Derrick J.

Being from TEXAS I'm very picky about my Bar-B-Q and since being in VA, I've yet to find any decent tasting BBQ. On a scale of 1-5, with five being the highest, I rated Urban's BBQ a 3.5. The staff was very friendly and the restaurant was very clean. I was a little disappointed in the customer service though. The cashier was not informed about the products on the menu and there seemed to be a lack of professionalism from the kitchen staff. In addition, the prices were a little steep, for mediocre BBQ. Also, as other YELP posters have pointed out, I too noticed that they locked the front doors well before closing. I'm a firm believer if the sign outside states you open and close at a particular time, then you need to adhere to those time frames. With that being said, I'll give Urban BBQ one more try, but it appears they have some work to do!

Really liked this place, there isn't a lot of BBQ places to choose from in the area but this was a nice change, great vibe in there and the employees were super nice. We will def. go back. I got the shredded pork and my husband got the urban legand which he really enjoyed.

Went on Saturday and it was not busy at all. Had the brisket and it was very dry. Bread tasted old but sauces ere good. Server at counter was very friendly but restaurant and restrooms were not clean and needed immediate attention. There is definitely better BBQ in Leesburg area.

  • Samir R.

I could not wait to try this place -- the bbq pickings around the Reston-Herndon-Ashburn areas are pretty slim. It is your classic bbq place where you go up to the counter and order which meat, how much and what sides... I had the brisket, ribs, beans and coleslaw. The results were mixed.. for my liking, the brisket was dry and somewhat bland but the ribs had a nice rub and were tasty. The beans were good and tangy but the coleslaw was very much a leave it. Unfortunately the sauces left much to be desired... I tried all of them and even after mixing them could not get something that worked for me. The prices were definitely more than I would have expected.

OK everyone knows I'm a veggie girl. But my Husband is a BBQ HOG. and He loves this place. he recommends the smoked sausage and BBQ chicken. I ate a salad , corn bread and Sweet Potatoes tots. AND the husband loves the fact that he can get a Schlitz tall boy. Ya that's going old school. I didn't even know that beer still was around.

  • B m.

Wow, I didn't know about this place. I had the smoked pork. I have to say I did not expect barbeque this good in Ashburn. I figured Carolina Brothers, which is okay but not great, was the best Ashburn had to offer. The food at UBBQ is better. I'm holding back a star because I've only tried it once and I don't know about other dishes.

I was absolutely blown away by the quality of their meat. I am from Texas and therefore I love Bar-b-que. I have never really had a problem with places like Famous Daves but after eating here, I don't think I'll touch any of the larger chains again. I had the half rack of ribs and it was incredible, the meat literally just fell off the bone. I honestly didn't know that you could get this kind of quality BBQ in VA. I also had the pulled pork sandwhich which very juicy and not dry at all like some other places. Like the other person said, the staff is very friendly and the beer selection was much better than I would have expected. Not just Bud lite and Miller lite but some nice micro crews on tap as well as good bottled beer like DogFish Head. It's pretty simple, if you like BBQ then go here. I will most certainly be back.... and back again

Nice friendly place, the pork was delicious although it lacked smokiness flavor. Corn bread is amazing and so was the potato salad, the beans I was not impressed. I'll be back

We went to Urban Bar-B-Que Company this afternoon for lunch. The experience was good, and so was the food. The owner, Gregg was very nice, and very willing to please his customers. The only downfall was the price, as it was a little pricey for lunch. But again, the food was good.

Shredded pork and chicken is delish - love how you can choose your bread side. Wings are beyond amazing. Cole slaw is on point...not too creamy. A little pricy but worth it. Cool atmosphere.

I would like to start off by saying that I am not an avid BBQ eater. I have only had BBQ about 3 times in my life, and it was actually only recently that I figured out that "BBQ" does not exactly equate to grilled hot dogs and hamburgers (I know, don't laugh at me). This review is based solely on my taste buds with zero comparisons to other BBQ spots. Located in the Ashburn Village Shopping Center, Urban Bar-B-Que Company occupies a large space and is well-decorated. High ceilings, tables and booths make up their dining area, along with a counter for customers to place orders. Four large, flat screen televisions are mounted on their walls along with cool decorations that are reminiscent of the South. Each booth comes with rolls of paper and utensils that are mounted in easy-to-reach positions on their walls. Super convenient. Their employees are very welcoming and friendly! They greeted all customers and wished them a great night upon leaving. The employee who took our order even allowed us to sample their special BBQ of the day! My date and I settled on their 3-Meats BBQ Sampler Plate, which included our choice of 3 meats, 2 sides, and 1 choice of bread. For $16.99, the amount of food we got was ridiculous! It was perfect for sharing. They also had their own station of signature BBQ sauces, located on the right side of the restaurant. Their sauces included: Red BBQ, Yella BBQ, Carolina BBQ, and Atomic Punk. Each sauce had its own unique taste and my favorites were the Yella (sweet like honey mustard) and Atomic Punk (very spicy with a great kick). Beef Brisket - 4 slices of brisket were received. The majority of the brisket was tender, with only a few spots that were a tad dry. Paired with their sauces it tasted good. Half Slab of Ribs - The meat came off the bone well and there was a large amount of it. Unfortunately it was not as moist as I would have liked it to be. ¼ Dark Chicken - My favorite out of the 3! The chicken came coated in a sweet BBQ sauce. The meat was very tender, juicy, and had a smoky taste to it. The skin was also slightly crispy and quite flavorful. While there are not many BBQ places in the Loudoun County area, I'd say that Urban Bar-B-Que Company is a great place to start. Also note that they offer several local brews here on tap, which I found very cool.

You are always warmly welcomed at Urban BBQ! We have never been disappointed and visit often. Rootbeer on tap is my favorite and the craft beers are great too. Fun an funky decor and ample seating. Warning for those allergic to peanuts as they are free to take from a bin. Highly recommend!

Average chain quality bbq. Nothing special. Stick with the local restaurants and you'll get much more out of the bbq experience.

Like others reviewing Urban Bar-B-Que I've been seeking my go-to BBQ place in Northern Virginia. Urban is a good option. The food is tasty. The restaurant is cool looking. Service is fast and friendly. The prices aren't cheap but are in line with other BBQ establishments in the area. When I finish a meal at Urban BBQ I think "that was ok" but am never really blown away. That being said I've tried many local establishments and Urban BBQ is certainly on-par with all of them. But I'm still seeking the hard to find and perhapd mythical 5-star worthy NOVA BBQ joint. Not a must go to restaurant for my family but certainly in our rotation and for those looking for local BBQ I would certainly suggest giving it a try as the experience will be positive.

Friendly staff and casual atmosphere and all the right looks to be a good barbecue joint as you first walk in. I am kicking myself for trying their lunch special, the Crazy Jose. It was a mix of pulled pork and brisket that was just killed in their 'red sauce'. On a first visit to a barbecue restaurant, always try the meat that sets up the place's foundation which is pulled pork. If that isn't right, then nothing else will be good. I strayed from that good advice and suffered today. Sorry, the crazy Jose sandwich was not good. It tasted like the beef barbecue you buy in a plastic tub at the grocery. The house barbecue sauce has way too much liquid smoke in it and after that it is just nothing special. The smoke flavor should be in the meat from the smoker! The mustard sauce was interesting in my quick sample and I'll try more of it on a followup visit where I try the pulled pork! Urban should get props and thanks for supporting a local brewery, that is a really nice touch. Lost Rhino has some good beer and root beer.

This is my new favorite place for BBQ! Even the mashed potatoes are awesome!

  • Dennis C.

The staff is super friendly. The food is pretty average. It's not bad, and it's not amazing. I may give it another shot, but after being there a couple of times I wasn't completely sold. I think I rather buy their BBQ sauce and cook at home. I would stay away from the burgers. My requested medium was over cooked twice. If you love good fries, definitely get the fries. It has a similar taste to Five Guys. Yummy. Overall, it's a friendly staff, good atmosphere, but with average food.

Really great Bar-B-Que! Everything at our table was solidly awesome. Kids loved the popcorn chicken, and my wife and I had the Smoked Pork. The sides were excellent (collared greens, baked beans, and fries). The only things keeping it from 5 stars are the prices and the sauce selection. Some more creative or unique sauces would really add to the variety, and we paid about 10-15% more than I would have expected for a strip mall joint. That being said, we'll definitely be back!

A new good place in the boonies! Rejoice! Service: Walking in the door, the staff behind the counter yelled a friendly greeting. I'm not sure where the owners find consistently professional, friendly young workers - but bravo. Food: We got a chicken sandwich and a two meat platter with fries, mac n cheese, and collards. It was all very good. The sides look small, but they are perfect once you get into it. The pulled pork beat the sliced beef, but both are very good. We loved their hot sauce, which is a spicy version of their Carolina sauce. Bebidas: Washed it down with a Lost Rhino pale ale and a Shiner Bock. I love that the have a kegorater for a keg of local Lost Rhino root beer. Desserts look good too but we had no room sadly. The damage: Drinks included, about $30 for the two of us - and we couldn't finish it all. It is tasty and we'll be back.

4.5 stars, this place is a real winner. Fast, friendly, and fantastic food. Carolina Brothers better watch out, because this place has much better barbecue AND better sides. This actually might be some of the best BBQ I've ever had in all of Virginia. I had the smoked pork and beef brisket. Both were incredibly tender, flavorful, and had a beautiful smoke ring around the meat. My two sides were great as well, the mac and cheese is actually REAL mac and cheese, and not Kraft. It is very cheesy, and you can tell that it is legit. The baked beans were really good as well, with big chunks of meat in them. The cornbread is the only part of the meal where I felt it could be a bit better, but out of 10, I'd give the cornbread a 6-7. The restaurant was clean, full, and the girl up front immediately asked us if we needed help chosing, and if we've ever been there before. I'll definitely return to try out their ribs, and to get some of their draft root beer.

The catered a picnic I was at and while I gave the 3 stars, they are more of a 3.5. And I'll confess I'm not a big BBQ fan. Their baked bean were actually some of the best I've ever had. However the pulled chicken was just ok as was the corn bread. So the beans and the simple grilled hot dog made me happy. I will point out that they were very nice folks. If you're into BBQ I'd go, the red sauce had a nice sweetness and a dash of heat.

Wow! First time to visit. Great smoked chicken, BBQ sauces superb, bbq beans, and collard greens - seriously? Collard greens! They were terrific. Everything was great. Definitely a regular stop.

Kraft instant Mac and cheese runs circle around their sorry excuse for Mac and cheese. Chicken was still bloody. Gross! They drench the meats in BBQ sauce and thing they can label it BBQ. Don't go, go buy a BBQ meal from the freezer isle in the grocery store, it'll probably taste better and worth your money. The appearance was really cute inside. Their fresh cut fries were delicious.

My wife and I got married back in the beginning of June and one of the most important things for our wedding planning was making sure we picked a good food option. We knew of friends who had spent crazy amounts of money on not so good food. That is why we chose Urban BBQ to do our catering for the wedding and we could not have been happier. Gregg, the manager, was so kind towards us and gave us a great deal on their amazing food! He even personally came out the day of the wedding to oversee everything and make sure it was perfect! We got so many complements on the food and we could not have chosen anyone else for our wedding. We strongly recommend you go and check this place out! APPETIZER RECOMMENDATION: If its your first time, we recommend the Soul Roles (Basically BBQ Spring Roles with this amazing cheese and bean dip!) It will have your taste buds singing! SALAD RECOMMENDATION: My wife always gets the BBQ Chicken Tortilla Salad which is absolutely amazing. I would get it also if I didn't think their pulled pork and chicken weren't perfectly cooked and mouthwatering to even think about... MEAL RECOMMENDATION: The pride and joy of this place is the way they smoke and cook their meats. Everything is always so tender and flavorful and when you throw some red BBQ sauce on it, for us it can't be beat! I am a pulled pork/chicken guy so that is definitely what I would recommend! Feel free to throw some cole slaw on it! BEER RECOMMENDATION: Jokingly, there is posted a sign on one of their chalk boards that reads "Free Beer Tomorrow!" If only tomorrow would come, because there are several good draft beers behind their counter. They sell a couple of the local brewing company's (The Lost Rhino) main beers. If they have the Alagash White, and you like wheat beers, go for it! If you like stouts I would try the Woody Stout if they have it! They also have Root Beer on Tap from the Lost Rhino as well! Its amazing stuff, plus free refills! We cannot emphasize enough how much we are grateful to this place for making our big day and for being our favorite BBQ place in the area. Whenever we have friends and family in town we take them here!

Plenty of good BBQ options here. Worth note is that they do have gluten free options for those who need that. Because they make their own food, they know what is in it, and that's good. Nothing microwaved out of a bag from the company warehouse here.

First off, When your advertisement says "Real Deal BBQ" then when you list your ribs on the board as a slab/half slab real Q people are going to expect spares. Not baby backs. if you are serving baby backs you have to advertise them as such or don't call yourself REAL Q! Second. the ribs were over done good bark but the meat underneath was dry. The Mac and Cheese tasted like staufers and no spice to the greens. The corn bread was good and the service excellent. But a BBQ joint lives and dies by the meat.

I tried this became it came highly recommended by family members. I can't comment much on service because it was a take out lunch but the person taking the order was friendly and helpful. The soul rolls (which are sort of like egg rolls but larger & filled with brisket) were full of meat and crispy, I think it was the redneck dipping sauce that had me enjoying these. What captivated me were the wings. I ordered the dragon honey flavor and I was hooked. The texture, sweetness and juiciness of the wings worked amazingly together. One of the best wings I have ever had. I also tried the bleu buffalo burger was also tasty and juicy. It had all the fresh fixings you would expect (tomato, lettuce, bacon). The fries were average and the mac 'n' cheese had a balance of cheesiness and firmness from the pasta. This is definitely an ideal choice for BBQ, burgers and especially wings!

Great place, friendly service and great flavor, however, their food is sooo salty we were not able to eat our chili cheese fries. My husband had the brisket sandwich and while the meat was tasty it was very skimpy. The pulled pork was delicious but extremely salty. This is our third time eating there and sadly we will not be going back due to the saltiniess of the food. We also found this to be true at the Rockville, MD location.

Anyone who knows anything about BBQ joints know they have to come correct! I arrived at UBBQ at 8:30ish, the cashier was very friendly however she could not answer any of the 3 questions about the menu that I asked her without yelling out to a co-worker for the answer. I gave her the benefit of the doubt that she was new. I placed my order and proceeded to sit down. At 8:40 one of the employees locks the front door and about 2 minutes later a family of walks up to find the door locked and the employee gestures out the window that they are closed. I literally shook my head in disbelief; if they continue that type of business practice they will not survive. The food came and I ate, it wasn't memorable and I will most likely not return. PROS Friendly Staff Clean Restaurant CONS Closed Early Price to Portions Ratio Food was just OK

This place makes Famous Dave's look appealing. This is seriously the worst pulled pork bbq I've had in a long, long, long time. Maybe it was an off day, but the stuff I got was so amazingly fatty, as if it had not been smoked nearly long enough, or ever. No real smoky flavor and 30-40% of the stuff was pure fat chunks. Real bbq is cooked long enough to disolve the fat into the muscle, making for juicey bbq. The last straw was some sort of fatty creamy sauce spiced up with salt and pepper poured over it, to make it moist. The sides were ok, nothing to get excited about. Not going back....

I happened to be in this shopping center for something else and saw the Urban BBQ sign. I'd never heard of it before, but since I'm always happy to try a new BBQ place out I decided to check it out. I ordered the 2 Meat Combo Platter w/ Smoked Pulled Pork and Sliced Beef Brisket. With a platter you get two sides and a piece of bread (cornbread or tortillas). I chose baked beans, potato salad and cornbread. I got my order to go and totally forgot to grab some of their sauces, despite the fact that the guy who took my order pointed them out to me. Oh well. I normally don't put sauce on brisket and I usually don't put much on my pork either. I prefer the actual taste of the meat without drowning it in sauce. So these reviews are for the taste of the meats without any sauce after a 30 minute drive back to my house in Fairfax. Despite the 30 minute drive back to my house before eating, the food was still at least room temperature, so I ate it without any re-heating. The meat: I'd say the portions are average sized. I think there were 4 slices of beef, plus the pulled pork. It was enough, but less than I've gotten at other BBQ places of similar/equal quality. * The Smoked Pulled Pork was very moist and tasty with a nice smokey flavor. * The flavor of the Sliced Beef Brisket was good, although it seemed slightly overcooked/dry. This is where some sauce would have been helpful. (Oh well. My bad. Next time!) The sides: The sides portions are small. They came in little containers that seemed slightly larger than the condiment cups at a fast food restaurant, although in reality they apparently hold a 1/2 cup. * BBQ-Ranch Baked Beans - These were possibly the best baked beans I've ever had, or certainly had in a long time. I really liked them. They had noticeable pieces of meat mixed in with them and the flavor was really nice. * Potato Salad - Mustard based and very good also. It tasted like they used a nice spicy mustard. Yum! * Cornbread - It had a somewhat fluffy cake-like consistency instead of the dry/dense cornbread that a lot of places have. It also had pieces of corn in it, which I really like. That always makes me think it's really home made instead of some box/bag mix. I liked this. I look forward to going back and trying the sausage and some of the other sides.

Middle of the road place. Nothing has ever been bad but nothing has ever been outstanding either. Tried a few things for lunch over the years. Their Frito Pie is exactly what you would expect of such a thing. Over the top, indulgent and very very salty. Drink lots of water after. Their pulled pork and chicken sandwiches are average but I'm really annoyed by how small their "sides" are. We're talking about 3oz of each side. It's tiny and ridiculous. Their burgers are l the best thing I've had here but they take forever to be made and if your friends ordered something else you're gonna watch them eat for 15 mins until you get your burger so be prepared. I wasn't a fan of their fries, they were very smelly prob from older standing oil. Overall just an average place so if a friend suggests it to you, just go.

Had eaten here before and it was pretty good but my recent visit was not so good. I couldn't even finish my smoked pork sandwich because it was full of hard, chewy, and bony pieces. We have also come for half price ribs and they weren't even worth the half price- dry and gross. I do give them 3 stars because their sides are really good! Their fries are just delicious and I like the Mac and cheese and beans. I will probably give them one more chance but I will say to anyone who hasn't been: don't get your hopes up high for this place.

the amount of food you get for the money is pretty ridiculous. The wife ordered a "Brisket Platter" for over $10. What she got was a few thick slices over extremely overdone brisket and 2 1/4 cups of what was supposed to be sides. Her brisket was terrible. I ordered a "Chili Mac" which is Mac & Cheese with chili over it. Well, sounded OK but what I got was Mac & Cheese drowning in chili juice. The chili I was able to taste (there was not much of it) was actually pretty good. Also got a side of beans. The beans were OK too but just a tad too spicy. One notch less would have been better. Should have gone a few doors down to Dairy Queen and got some real good food. The food was better than Carolina Brothers (which is not hard to do). I suspect the bad quality today was operator error BUT the price and amount delivered is a management problem. One Star. Wont be back

BBQ is one of my favorite kinds of food but for some reason, northern VA seems to be lacking in these establishments. I'm not an expert or anything, I just know when something tastes good to me. I like the tangy salty and sweet flavor. In general, I feel like BBQ is actually kind of expensive in this area. A combo with 1 choice of meat and 2 sides is over $10. I got their bbq chicken combo. It comes with 2 sides and your choice of bread: roll, corn bread, or tortilla. The chicken was kinda small portion but it was good. It wasn't juicy, but the skin was flavorful. For sides, I got their hush puppies (limited time) and fries. But I also sampled the mac & cheese and fried okra. The hush puppies and mac & cheese were by far my favorite! Overall it was good. I would recommend to a friend to try, but probably wouldn't be back because I'm still looking for a BBQ place with more value for my money.

Delicious food and friendly staff. Love the Rhino Root Beer- I ordered a 2 meat platter- ribs & brisket w/ hush puppies & fries w/ cornbread! My husband loved the pulled pork- best we've ever had. Can't wait to go back and try other items on the mention.

We've always been pleased with the que at Urban Barbecue. I really like the fact that the owners are so supportive of local school sports, as well.

I have been here about a dozen times now. Solid and well-rounded BBQ joint. Some points, in no particular order: - Lost Rhino rootbeer on-tap? YES. That is the right answer. Oh, and iced tea ... you can't sell BBQ and not dispense tea. - Sides are varied and well-done. Cornbread is kinda meh, wrapping it up in saranwrap does not help. - Decent variety of tasty sauces. - "Ambiance" is good, proper amount of kitsch and "stuff on the walls." - Meat is above average but not top notch ... I find it a bit dry. - Military discount is nice, thanks.

We gave it a chance even after reading the reviews. Still a bad idea. We got great customer service from an employee but the manager was being rude to him right in front of me. The ribs were tough and the pulled pork... Was something I wouldn't consider Pulled pork.. More like cubed stuffing with the consistency of tire rubber. I love trying new places and supporting local businesses but this one was just NOT WORTH IT. Believe my warning and skip it.

***3.5*** So I've had this place bookmarked for quite a while on Yelp and finally ended up going on (03/01/14) around 5pm. Now this place isn't huge but I do feel it is reasonably sized. I think my wife and I had perfect timing because there was hardly any other customers in the establishment. So this gave my wife and myself enough time to look over the menu. My wife ordered the 1/2 rack of rib and 1 meat combo which comes with 2 sides and (cornbread or chips I believe). For her meat she did smoked pork, her sides, were coleslaw, bbq ranch beans, and she opted for the cornbread. I did the three meat combo platter which also came with 2 sides and (cornbread or chips). The three meats I selected were the smoked pork, sausage, bbq chicken with the bone pulled, my sides were, mac n cheese and bbq ranch beans with cornbread. My wife and I were quite pleased with our meals with the exceptions that although food was prepared and presented to us relativelt quickly it wasn't as hot as we expected it to be. My wife said that her coleslaw wasn't anything special amd it was the same for me with the mac n cheese. So other than the food not being hotter, the coleslaw and mac n cheese not being anything special, everything was still pretty enjoyable. With that being said my wife and I do plan on coming back to give some of their other items a try, I just hope that the the food is hotter next time.

Out of the rotation of local options that seem to turn up again and again (Carolina Brothers, Willard, and Urban BBQ), I must say that for me, Urban is the clear and overall winner. After tiring of Carolina Bros' inconsistent meat quality and the crowd/menu confusion/stickiness of Willard, this mini-chain (3 locations in MD and 1 in Loudoun County) has my BBQ-lovin' heart for when I'm at home. Simple - great atmosphere, friendly "family feel" of the employees, non-complicated meat options prepared perfectly, and a full cadre of house-made sauces AND a hot sauce station make me one happy BBQ eater. Plus, I felt that the priced were quite reasonable for how much food the hubby and I received, particularly the corn bread and "Two Step Chili." Speaking of chili...you gotta try the Two Step - brisket and chuck in a delightful, savory tomato stew with just enough beans and spice, served in a huge cup! I also really enjoyed that their salads (often an afterthought at a BBQ joint) are actually served over appetizing and fresh mixed greens as opposed to iceberg or wilted romaine lettuce. Can't go wrong with that if you're craving a low-carb/high-meat salad option. The brisket, pulled pork, and ribs were all winners in our book. We were pleased that we had the choice of 4 house-made sauces that pretty much ran the gamut from Carolina BBQ style (vinegary) to a mustard-y sauce to straight-up red BBQ sauce to a spicy sauce, plus the aforementioned hot sauce station, with which to top our meats and salad and chili. Heaven! Also convenient were the paper towel/utensil/wet-nap stations mounted at every booth, which saved us from making multiple trips once we received our food. Trash bins are also conveniently located and table clean-up on your way out is a breeze. If you're dining with picky eaters or non-BBQ folks (do they exist?), Urban offers a really comprehensive menu of burgers and even a veggie or a chicken burger, with a creative listing of toppings and preparation styles. For the pickiest, try "The Loser," which is just a beef patty on a bun. Ha! Don't bother with RH&B or Famous Dave's or any chains. Maybe try Carolina and Willard for a full Olympic-style comparison (my style), but I think you'll be pleasantly surprised that an Ashburn strip mall can house the winner!

Oh my heavens this place is good! I'm disappointed we didn't try it sooner. We've just lived here so long and gotten accustomed to the handful of places we like to eat closer to our home, but friends of ours raved about how good it was, so we had to drive over to the village and try it. This is a order at the counter and take a seat type of place. They call your name when your order is ready. I liked the pro-veteran stickers, flags, and decorations around the place. The barbecue beef and the pulled pork were FANTASTIC. The barbecue beans were really good, too. They have a nice selection of hot sauces to choose from. They serve Coca-Cola products from a foutain soda dispenser, plus a special root beer on tap from Lost Rhino. I'm always a little nervous about trying barbecue places because many of them tend to use MSG (a.k.a. "liquid smoke") that gives me a migraine headache, so I waited a day before I wrote this review. NO HEADACHE. I guarantee we'll be going back to the Urban Barbecue Company!

More like it's on the high end of 2 stars ******************************************* It was hard to rate this place. On one hand, the service was great---very friendly and helpful. On the other hand, the food was somewhere between "meh" and "A-OK". We came here on a Saturday around 5 p.m. The place was already doing a decent amount of business with a few tables occupied. Having read the Yelp reviews, we knew before hand that we had to order our food at the counter. The nice young man at the counter greeted us and asked if we had any questions. Since we had looked at the menu online before coming here, we knew what we wanted to order. I ordered a 1/2 rack of ribs and a piece of white meat chicken. For my 2 sides, I chose cole slaw and potato salad. My husband ordered brisket and a sausage. His 2 sides were baked beans and mac & cheese. I had a fountain soda, while he had a Yuengling on tap. It took a bit of time before his beer got poured. The guy at the counter had to call someone from the kitchen to pour it. Obviously, this was because the counter guy was under 21. When your food is ready, they bring it to your table. You choose where you want to sit. While we were waiting for the food to come, I went to the table where the bbq sauces were in dispensers. I brought back to the table small cups of each of the 4 sauces so that we could sample them. There was "red sauce" which was a more standard but thin bbq sauce. "Yella sauce" was a mustard-based sauce. Carolina sauce was on the sweet side. The fourth sauce was a very spicy one (I can't remember the name and their website doesn't have the info)---too spicy for us when we have bbq. The food came out quicker than we expected. We were prepared for a longer wait, so it was a nice surprise when we got it that soon. The ribs, to be honest, were far from the best I ever had. They were tough to separate, too fatty and didn't have very much meat on it. What little there was did have decent flavor. As for the chicken --- I know some of you are thinking, why order white meat chicken in a bbq joint. Well...to me, if a place can make a bbq chicken breast that's moist, then we have a winner here. Plus, if it isn't good---someone has to take a hit for the Yelp team. So...the chicken was inconsistent. The skin was nice and crisp with a generous amount of bbq sauce. The meat did have a few good bites here and there that were moist---especially the wing and the area surrounding it. The rest was dry and lacked flavor. As for my husband's meal --- back in the mid-90s, we were on a cross country road trip. When it was time for dinner, we were near Van Horn, TX. The AAA guide recommended a place called "Smoke House Restaurant and Auto Museum" (no Yelp back then!). We stopped in and my husband was in brisket heaven. From that point forward, any brisket he has had, has to meet the gold standard---and he has yet to find any that compares. He thought his brisket at Urban was on the dry side and not very flavorful. The sausage he had was spicy and he thought it was decent enough but not mind blowing. [As a side note, a few years later, we were passing through Van Horn, TX and my husband couldn't wait to get that brisket but---alas---the place had burned to the ground. 3 years ago, we drove through town again, the sign was still there but they never did rebuild.] As for the sides --- We both sampled all 4 sides. The mac & cheese was very simple in its execution. However, it was dry and clumped together plus it was bland. The beans had a sweet flavor and the amount of meat in them was generous. The cole slaw was okay--basic no frills with some dressing. The potato salad was made with red-skinned potatoes and didn't have much flavor. We each got a piece of cornbread. It wasn't too bad---sweet, moist and dense. Dinner cost $36 +change. We were expecting all this food to be better than it was. However, we weren't sorry we tried it. If we hadn't we would have been wondering what it was like. Now we know---and are in no rush to go back.

We went for dinner tonight with high expectations and were let down. We ordered the soul rolls for an appetiser with the ribs and brisket combo. All food came to the table at the same time. When I asked why the appetiser did not come first, the server said it takes longer to cook. The ribs were like rubber. It was near impossible to separate the bones. The meat stuck to the bones. Something went wrong in the kitchen. The redeeming factor was the manager apologised and replaced the ribs with pulled pork. The brisket was just OK. Most of the reviews are positive, maybe we just hit a bad night. Considering the BBQ competition in the area, we will probably not be returning here.

I am currently here and do not recommend this place. Go to Rockville and have a nice meal. Servers are ok but while eating my fries I was lucky enough to eat a giant blonde hair and have to pull it out of my mouth. It's now on the floor, but at least it is clean and won't stick. Sorry but in my mind it's an epic fail. I'll drive the forty minutes to Rockville to enjoy better service better food and a nicer atmosphere. Just want to make clear though the service was not bad.

I came for a Woody Stout, not available from Lost Rhino this time of year. This visit I tried two different sides, collard greens & potato salad. Pass on the collard greens, the potato salad was OK. Neither was as good as the BBQ beans & slaw. Cornbread was a good choice, the BBQ pork is unchanged. Service was good, food came out fast. Next time I'll try beef, sausage or chicken.

  • Sarah P.

True rating is probably 2.5 stars. I had relatively high hopes based on the reviews for this place, despite the fact that it is in a new strip center. In my experience, this is an almost universal indication of bad barbecue to come. Pros: nice interior, they offer a military discount, the mac 'n' cheese was good, they have Lost Rhino brews on tap, including root beer which is really good. Cole slaw was fresh and crunchy. Cons: The barbecue chicken was not, it was fried chicken dunked in bbq sauce, what??? No smoke, no moist, tender fall off the bone texture. The brisket was tough and dry, with not much smoke to it. Pulled chicken was dry and not smoked at all. The beans had a strange flavor, collard greens had none. Just another example of a restaurant that uses barbecue ovens in place of actual pits and wood smoke, but then calls themselves a barbecue joint. As a restaurant, it's OK, but good barbecue this was not.

This place is a joke the food is laughabke in size and taste. And the service was terriable I wouldn't be suprised if the ribs wernt even smoked but propane grilled gross I could eat better ribs at a steak joint. Yuck I'm ashamed to see this place has 3 stars.

Excellent BBQ and everything else is pretty decent. Soul rolls are da bomb and 1/2 price ribs on Tuesdays. Bring the kiddos if they're meat eaters, otherwise there isn't much of a selection for them.

Urban Bar-B-Que is an order at the counter kinda joint. Seat yourself and fill your own drinks. All of their BBQ sauces are on the side, along with a variety of hot sauces as well. I though the food is okay, but SX is willing to come back for more meals here due to their proximity. SX tried the 3 meat combo of sausage, pulled pork (listed as smoked pork on the menu), and brisket (listed as smoked beef on the menu), with sides of potato salad, collard greens and cornbread. I tried the half rack of ribs with sides of collard greens, ranch-style beans, and cornbread. It was definitely way too much food for two people. The food is served on paper over plastic trays. We both did wish they invested in better parchment because the paper kept shredding due to getting soaked with warmth, sauces, and fatty meat juices. So, we probably ate a few slivers of paper while we were gnawing away at our meals. The meats here have good pink smoke rings and are tender. The meats didn't seem dry, but they come pre-sauced; I'm not sure if you can ask them to lay off on the sauce, but that's something I might try next time. The ranch style beans are over spiced, over powered (had too much dried seasoning sprinkled in) and pretty much killed your palate. Otherwise, there was a decent number of meaty chunks in there. The beans also have a decent spicy heat kick to them too. Probably best off as a meal on their own with cornbread. However, the collard greens here are quite tasty, definitely one of the sides you should opt for. The potato salad was tasty and the texture was on point, however, since the potatoes were cut into decently large chunks, the side of potato salad only consisted of 4 potato pieces. So it isn't really worth it. Each meal comes with a choice of bread starch and we opted for cornbread. The cornbread slices are sitting under a heat lamp, but it didn't seem to reflect that when we received our meals. Skip the sweet tea, it isn't very special. However, definitely splurge on the root beer. It's self serve tap and it absolutely tasty. Root beer on tap is a different experience.

We've eaten here many times, as well as take-out, at least twice a month, family of 6. We love the brisket, collards, and Mac and cheese the most. Excellent sauce variety. Cute decor. Well stocked self-serve supplies. However, the portions are very small for the price. Last two visits, the portions were even smaller and the quality was lacking. Four thin half slices of brisket with two 1/4 cup, though I doubt even that much, sides...no more than two forkfuls! There was no way the brisket was 6 ounces, we typically get four full slices, not half slices (slices thinner than normal too). Debated ordering by the pound, but with larger sides, that as way too expensive for a family meal. Cornbread was dry and very brown. They forgot part of our carry out the last three times. When the owner is there, it is good. They are super friendly. They support local business, such as local brewery. We have enjoyed the sausage, chili Mac, and Fritos pie many times, but afraid to go back due to recent lack of quality and value.

Giant grocery store has better BBQ. Highly disappointed. I've traveled through out TN, NC, the Midwest and to Texas for BBQ. Brisket was like shoe leather and the pulled pork had large chunks of fat balls. Flavorless meat and the beans will probably remind me later on from the scene of blazing saddles. Bad beans! Corn bread...nothing to write home about. Sorry but this place was not worth the trip. Willard's or Carolina brothers is much better.

I have been several times with my family and although it's not the BEST bbq/soul food place around, it hits the spot when you need it. The collards are a bit disappointing. I've had WONDERFUL collard greens in the past, so they have a tough job to live up to the ones I've had before. The bbq sandwhiches are decent--tender and savory. The mac and cheese is awesome, but it's just a joke with the portion size. You can get a "side" of mac and cheese and it comes in a TINY little stirofoam cup. I was really disappointed with their sides. Overall, this is a small detail because I know they are technically a BBQ resturant and not a self-proclaimed "soul food" resturant, but I was disapppointed they don't sell fried chicken as well. They seemed very "southern"; however, no fried chicken (even on the kid's menu). My husband ordered the ribs and they almost appeared to be undercooked. We went on a Wednesday when the ribs were half-priced and it almost seemed as though they just had them waiting on the back, expecting them to be a popular item to be ordered. They were undercooked and my husband and I were underwhelmed by them and a bit disappointed. Kids eat free on Tuesdays, which is nice, but overall they are just mediocre because of their portion sizes.

This is the best BBQ place in the area. I've had pulled pork, brisket, and BBQ chicken there and they were excellent. They have a variety of good sauces to choose from. The sides are very good as we'll. the baked beans have nice big chunks of meat in them and have a good spice to them. Potato salad is Above average. Corn bread is tasty. I'd recommend heading out to UBBQ when you get a chance. Just not down Waxpool at rush hour!

I've only ever been here one time and was entirely not impressed. My food was cold and they were out of half the sides that were listed on the menu. The corn bread was dry and like eating sand. I wasn't impressed of how small the portions were or how much I paid for food that was overall not very good

I've been going here about twice a month since they opened. Finally, a real bbq joint. The ribs, bbq chicken and brisket are all delicious. The beans rock and their fries are some of the best around (i just wish they offered old bay with them being near the eastern shore and all). The corn bread isn't anything to write home about and the food cloths be warmer but the quality and taste of the food makes it with it. Paired with a beer or root beer and you're set. If you like bbq, then you know the stuff around here stinks and you owe it to yourself to try this place.

A place with potential but I'm afraid it got caught up in living up to a hype for the area. Standard barbecue, but overpriced in my opinion. Nothing to write home about, but it's not terrible either. Customer service definitely receives 5 stars. Just can't seem to find anything special to say about this barbecue joint.

This is actually a really solid 3.5* for Urban Bar-B-Cue in Ashburn. Service was helpful, food was tasty, good portion size, clean, etc. I had a three-meat combo with sliced brisket, three spare ribs and a sausage link. I think it was about $16. Two sides -- baked beans and greens. Cornbread and a sweet tea rounded out the meal. Brisket was a little dry, but had a nice flavor. Ribs were delicious. Sausage had a great flavor but had been cooking a little long and was mushy on the inside without a snap on the skin. Beans were outstanding. Greens were greens. Nothing special, but nothing wrong either. They have four house sauces -- none of them bad, none of them singing to me. They did have their rub in a shaker and I poured some into a little cup. The rub is good. So for BBQ, I'd give it a solid 3.5 stars -- nothing had a lot of smoke on it, but the meat was good quality. For service, they definitely get four stars -- very friendly staff. For sides, they get a three. My greens were merely okay, my wife said the potato salad was overloaded with mustard and my mac-and-cheese-loving son said his was 'meh'. The beans were superb though. My big complaint (and it's fairly minor): my wife ordered the Texas fondue or something, which involved a cup of queso mixed with a little of their chili, and chips, as an appetizer. It was delivered with the food after 20 minutes. Can't they make sure the appetizer comes out before the meal? The fondue was very good. She even took it home for lunch today. But it's a cup of queso and chips! It shouldn't take 20 minutes and it would've made the wait for food go a lot more quickly. All-in-all, there's not a lot of competition in the area for BBQ and if you're not in NC or GA or TX or TN or KC (homes of truly outstanding BBQ), this is pretty good.

I'm probably giving an extra star for nostalgia because it's been a while since I've had BBQ, but we enjoyed UBBQ. Good bbq, sides, and root beer. Friendly service. I loved the sauces, and they had some things on the menu you don't typically see on traditional bbq menus (like sweet tater tots). If we lived anywhere nearby we'd be back. :)

Back to give them another try since they're so close to my house. Food and service were better, but still just ok and overpriced, especially the sides. The pork sandwich isn't worth eating. Their non-barbeque offerings are pricey but OK; however, for their supposed specialty, they should take a trip down to Florida and stop at almost any of the Sonny's Barbeque Restaurants to see how it's done. Sonny's provides uniformly decent barbecue in a chain restaurant environment, and Sonny's worst is 2 standard deviations better than Urban Bar-B-Que. If you love Texas barbecue, then try 4 Rivers in Winter Park, FL. Pros: Macaroni & Cheese, French Fries, Urban's Soul Rolls, Redneck Fondue, Urban's Wings, Root Beer, Hot BBQ Sauce (when mixed with a little bit of their Red and some Catsup) Cons: Size of sides (~3 oz.), Beans (taste like a whole can of cumin was dumped into them), Potato Salad (lots of mustard; little mayo), Ribs (tough, silverskin still in place on one rack, - had to take them home and slow cook for 3 hours at 225 with Liquid Smoke and BBQ sauce to make them flavorful and tender enough), chicken (have had wings bigger than the drumstick on a 1/4 chicken dark meat order), Collard Greens (Just OK, but no pepper vinegar available and no chunks of ham in them) All of their BBQ could benefit from lower and slower cooking. Whatever you do, Urban Bar-B-Que, go somewhere and learn how to cook barbecue properly!!

I was very impressed the food here and would recommend this place to friends. The Urban Rolls are amazing and might be the one of the greatest things ever invented. Plan on going back with family and friends to try some other items on the menu. I had the 3 meat combo with pulled chicken, smoked beef and brisket. It was all amazing!! Red skin potato salad and mac & cheese were both great additions to the meal. Tuesday is half off BBQ Rack Ribs and plan on trying those, I am sure they are amazing as well. Great atmosphere and service, once again very impressed!!

*Update* Just gave them one more shot and highly disappointed. DC Food Dude (his picks are questionable at best, believe he gets paid) raves about the brisket so I gave it a shot on the 2 meat platter. 3 tiny slivers of brisket dry as anything and a small scoop of chopped pork, again very dry. When I picked up the box I thought they gave me the wrong order. Just like most places in Ashburn I guess they feel they can gouge you in the wallet for small portions of cheap meats. I will not be returning as there is a much better bbq place just a few towns over where you get what you pay for. The food is OK but its highly over priced. You are selling pork not steak. $8-$12 just for a sandwich is over priced IMO.

Hmmm. Can't say that I'm a fan. The food, the decor -- none of it worked for me. I WILL say that I thought the staff was extremely nice/accomodating. I ordered the Texas Steakhouse Salad. I must have missed the fact that instead of "steak", it was brisket on the salad. The very first bite I put in my mouth was a big chunk of fat. Then the second and then the third! That kind of set the tone for the rest of the meal. The decor is -- let's just say "ecletic." Kind of like eating in a garage, unfinished basement or in a picked-over TGI Fridays. I'll probably only go back if I see another really good coupon.

Great BBQ in "downtown Ashburn". Food is great and they are a BIG supporter of youth activities and the local high schools. They deserve extra kudos for that. Get the pulled pork, fresh fries and turnip greens, You would think you are in Alabama!

What a rip-off!! I was so pissed off when we got the food home and saw it. We spent $160 on what we were told would feed 10 people and got 4lbs of meat, a side of ribs (basically what you'd get on a plate or two at a restaurant) and a whole bunch of mac-n-cheese, cole slaw, buns and sauce. The BBQ barely covered 8 buns. The BBQ wasn't bad but you'd think with what they are charging it would be the best - it's not. It's average at best. So basically you're getting gouged on the meat and ripped off with a bunch of high profit-margin side items. Don't waste your money!

Excellent BBQ. Collard greens and chopped cole slaw rounded out a satisfying meal. Vegetarian wife thoroughly enjoyed her veggie burger (Boca patty for those that care) so everyone was happy. Good options for kids and a posted military discount also makes me a fan.

The food here wasn't bad, but not the best BBQ I've had. The brisket was a little dry, the sausage was bland, and the smoked pork was just ok. The sauces were on the runny side and lacked bite in my opinion. I tried the Carolina Vinegar sauce (this one is supposed to be on the watery side), the Red sauce, and the Yellow sauce. The corn bread was very good, the Mac n' Cheese reminded me of something from a cheap cafeteria, and the potato salad was good. Definitely not a bad experience, but my personal preference is BBQ that has a bark from the smoke and rub and/or sauce with some bite, so I don't think I'll be going back here. The prices were a bit steep for the amount you get and I don't think it justified the cost. The staff was very friendly and helpful and the restaurant was very clean.

Stopped by with the family and had an overall good experience. My son had the buried corndogs which was 2 delicious corn dogs covered in redenck fondue (cheese dip with chili). It was great and I might just have that next visit. I had the ribs which I thought were a little overcooked. Good smoke flavor but too tough on the outside. They have a good selection of bbq sauces and drinks. Nice atmosphere with a friendly staff and beers on tap. We will be going back here again to try some more food!

Confirmation\Update Review: this place is really good - had a BBQ brisket salad which was very creatively served. It had fried small potatos over the top, but not enough brisket for me - which proves the axiom "when at a BBQ place, order meat, not ruffage". A couple compliments and a gripe. The service as always is outstanding here, there was an older man doing odd jobs around the restaurant who engaged the kids in his work and answered a lot of questions about BBQ, I loved it as did the girls and I hope he's there next time we are. It's good to have some character at a restaurant you want to like. The ribs were again very good, cooked perfectly. Would love to have more room on the serving plate to work though. One gripe: the root beer on draft is room temp - when you have good root beer it should be served chilled, not served with ice to cool it down. Need another good visit to bump it up. Solid three for me, but read Susan H's review as well.

first off this place doesn't deserve the ratings it has.. the food is not that great. The wings were tough, not tender, and barely cooked. Some of the meat wasnt moist or tender at all..The flavor was good though. The sides are a rip off.. You go and spend 12$ for the 2 meat platter with two sides and they are done in 2 bites. NO JOKE... go to willards bbq, carolina brothers, or The Q...save your $$

I honestly don't get why it doesn't average to 4+ star. If it weren't for the deceiving reviews I would have visited this place 6 months ago and 20 pounds heavier. I guess in a way I should thank the folks who give negative reviews so help me keep in shape! Anyway, as I said earlier, since the reviews aren't all that stellar but I was in the 'hood and crave some BBQ, I decided to venture into this shop and hope for half-medicore BBQ that will at least make me full. Didn't know what to order and didn't want to take a chance, so took the 3-meat combo (rib, brisket, BBQ chicken dark). OH.MY.GOD. It's the juiciest and one of the most flavorful BBQ I've had! The brisket is so good that I ate them naked (no sauce, I'm still dressed), and the BBQ chicken have the flavorful skin with just the right hint of smoke. Again, super juicy. Last but not least, the ribs. I got just 2 bones (the guy at the counter did warn me) and got the end tip. It was amazingly flavorful and very juicy again -- it's very good. Top-shelf BBQ FTW

Gregg and his wife catered a party for my sister's engagement yesterday -- and the food and service were top-notch. The BBQ pork and chicken were both tender and moist, not dry like some BBQ places try to pass off as quality. Mac and Cheese was fantastic, as was the cornbread. They also brought along several sacues and spreads to accompany the chicken and pork, which were all excellent. My favorite was the Carolina sauce (I'm partial to their style of BBQ as opposed to Texas' and elsewhere :) Eat there, get it delivered, or choose them for your next catered function -- you will love the food and personable service from Gregg and Lisa.

I love the casual ambiance of Urban BBQ. It's style is a bit like a Red Hot & Blue Express, except bigger and brighter -- lot of kitchsy wall art and photos. We ordered to-go for a group of four and the wait was not bad. It was just enough time to grab some sauces to go from their sauce bar: red (a standard sweet sauce); hot (not mouth-on-fire but still spicy); Carolina yellow (vinegar based and my favorite); and a regular vinegar-based sauce without any of the mustard flavor. From our order, I tried the pulled pork, pulled chicken, collard greens and BBQ ranch beans. The meats had great flavor, and I like how you can customize them with your own sauce rather than have them come slathered with something. The brioche rolls they were served on were fresh and soft. Collard greens were excellent and I would definitely recommend trying. The BBQ ranch beans were unlike most baked beans I've had because they had a spicy red sauce rather than a sweet BBQ one. Still, they were great and have huge chunks of meat mixed in. I love the little extras Urban BBQ offers, like the Lost Rhino root beer that's on tap next to the soda machine and the complimentary peanuts that you can self-scoop to snack on while you wait. I plan to be back and try some of the famous soul rolls!

I've been to Urban BBQ Company 3 or 4 times now, and I recommend it to anyone in the area looking for some tasty BBQ! So far, I've tried the smoked chicken, pork, and a Cesar salad with smoked chicken on top! I have also tried their BBQ beans, mac and cheese, potato salad, and cornbread. Everything so far has been delicious! I'm in love w/ the Cesar salad topped with smoked chicken! Only salad worth eating ;) I honestly love the size of their sides because it makes it easy for me to watch what I eat. Yes, the size is small (4oz or half a cup), but I've never left Urban BBQ Company hungry! The cornbread size is HUGE, so if you like cornbread, you'll be happy :) My only thought was that I wished they offered applesauce or baked apples as a side dish. It's one of my favorite sides to have with BBQ. This place is also a tad pricey ($12 for my salad), but it's tasty, so I go back!

I've been here a dozen times and it's one of my favorite BBQ places in the area. The staff and management is very nice and will take care of your needs. Overall, it's a cool place to enjoy a meal with friends and family and not have to worry about high volume and the frantic nature of other restaurants. The food isn't a competitor for the best BBQ in the USA. However, it is one of our favorite places to dine in the area- especially for the price. They have plenty of selections for sauces to compliment the well prepared and high quality entrees. I've tried most of the sides already and I'm impressed. If you are a fan of mashed potatoes- they are out of this world! Their ribs? Not bad. You could do better, but you will definitely pay twice as much. Overall, you are probably not going to get any better for the area. If you really wanted to blow your taste buds mind, you would have to travel to DC.

I just finished eating at this place (Friday 6pm, busy time). I decided to go there cause I love me any type of BBQ. Let me tell you I'm quite disappointed. It was my first time there and I had BBQ pork ribs, which I started eating right away as soon as the waitress brought it to me and it was cold and saggy. French fries were also cold and looked like they had been dumped in an bucket of oil, and were sitting there for hours. Mashed potatoes and the corn bread (which you would expect) to be good because they're easily made and found everywhere, although a bit better then the pork ribs and the fries, still 2 stars out of 5. Over all, a bad experience and I won't be coming back to this place.

It's not the worst bar-b-que in the area, but it has some steps to take before it becomes the best. We stopped by for the first time tonight, and wanted to try a few menu items, so we got the combo plates. On mine I had the BBQ chicken, ribs and sausage. My friend had the BBQ chicken and beef brisket. We also split an order of the Chili Mac-Daddy. Let me start by saying this - Smoking meats is a task suited best for the specialists. Why? Because there's a fine line between smoked and burnt. A good smoked meat is very tender, and has a nice smoked flavor. Sadly the ribs I had in my combo were burnt and a dried out chewy mess. They were awful. The BBQ chicken was spectacular. Especially with more of the house special sauce poured on top. It was moist, hot, and very flavorful. The sausage was my favorite. It was a nice mild link, and had an incredible smoked flavor. It went incredibly well with the golden sauce. My friend said that her beef brisket was very moist and tender. I didn't try it myself. As our side dishes we both got the cole slaw, and I had the baked beans while my friend had the fries. The cole slaw was pretty good, and I consider myself a rather picky slaw eater. It was creamy, and crunchy. The baked beans were more like chili beans picked from a pot of chili, and not all that good. Or rather, they were good, but not what I wanted when ordering baked beans. The fries were okay. Kind of limp and soggy. The Chili Mac-Daddy was very flavorful, and had a nice mixture of chili to noodle ratio. With each meal comes a slice of bread. You can choose between corn bread, corn tortillas, or a fancy hamburger bun. We both opted for the corn bread - Which was unfortunate because it was terrible. It was rather dry, and very lacking in the actual "corn" flavor. My biggest problem with this place is the food to price ratio. For close to forty bucks, we were expecting a lot more generous portion. The side dishes come in little cups that can't be more than four tablespoons worth. For my fifteen dollar combo I got three very small, very burnt ribs, a chicken leg with a tiny bit of additional dark meat on it, and one sausage link no bigger than your average hot dog. All of this was served up on a cafeteria style tray with a piece of wax paper on it. The Chili Mac-Daddy was $7.99, and couldn't have been more than half a cup to a cup of food. Granted it was more than enough food with everything we got, but it just felt like for the price we were getting ripped off. Especially when compared to the portion sizes served at other BBQ joints like Famous Daves. If I was craving BBQ, and was in the area, I would probably go back to Urban Bar-B-Que. Though I certainly wouldn't go for the ribs. To add one additional positive note to the place, the staff is very friendly and helpful.

Not sure I am at a "Yay I'm a fan" stage yet -- although I will most likely be back to evaluate more of the menu. We started with Urban's Soul Rolls and Sweet Tater Tots. I had a three meat platter of Pork, Brisket and Suasage. My wife had the pork platter. I washed mine down with a Schlitz Tall Boy. In my opinion, the starters outshone the main event. The Soul Rolls were incredible -- BBQ Egg Rolls filled with brisket, sweet onionsand cheese. But the "Redneck" fondue served as a dipping sauce makes it. Three cheese blended with their chili. The Sweet Tater Tots are exactly that -- sweet potato tater tots topped with blue cheese, bacon and green onions. They were both scrumptious but be warned -- the tater tots are a bit on the sweet side. Even for sweet potatoes. As for the BBQ -- I've had better. The pork was sort of dry and the brisket -- served sliced fairly thinly -- was cold. From a taste perspective, they tasted right. But a little more attention to the details would have been appreciated. The sauasage was interesting -- and good. A bit of sweetness that played well with the pork. They have three different BBQ sauces -- North Carolina style, South Carolina style and Hot. I tried the latter two and found them to be emminently acceptable. The sides were quite good -- I had Mac & Cheese and cole slaw. My wife said the greens were great. So three stars because I found the food to be uneven -- at least on this visit. I do want to return to try their ribs -- which are half-price on Wednesdays.

Had noticed this store when it opened, but hadn't gotten there then. I guess that was in April? Last week I had the urge for some BBQ, hadn't been to Willards' in a while, and was driving no more than a few hundred yards away. I figured it was time to give them a try. I purchased one each of the pork, brisket, and chicken sandwiches. Also ordered coleslaw. Took home little plastic cups of three sauces. Verdict: most happy customer! - Brisket - as other reviewers have noted, a bit dry. But that means less fat, so I'm not complaining. Just added a touch more red sauce. - Chicken: also a bit dry. Vinegar sauce solved that problem nicely. - Pork: to die for. Better than Willards, which amazed me. Consumed without any sauce. - Coleslaw: not my style, but good anyhow. As I write this, I'm glancing at my watch and thinking that if I leave now there won't be much traffic heading to the store. Think that I have to try the ribs this time...

Went to this place on a suggestion from a friend so I was really looking forward to it. We usually go to another bbq place which is right behind our house off of Ashburn Rd. The customer service at Urban Bar-B-Que was good but the food was not so good. The atmosphere was great....sort of had a Chipotle feel to it. We ordered the a couple of smoked pork sandwiches and the redneck bbq. Both the sandwiches and Redneck bbq was overly salty or maybe overly seasoned. The buns were dry and the chips that were served with the Redneck bbq (which was really just chili) was seasoned. I would have preferred chips that were unseasoned since the chili was already (over) seasoned. The seasoned chips just added to the salty taste. Well, we gave it a try and I don't think we'll be going back. We'll stick to Carolina Bros.

Tried it again during weekday lunch and found that that the pork was moist in the pulled pork platter. I would prefer that they didn't mix in BBQ sauce though. They mix it in to keep it moist. Which indicates to me that it isn't made that often. The best is made fresh and served without sauce. The food was okay. This visit the pork was indeed kept moist. They served you a generous portion. The top pieces were tasty. The bottom layer was greasy though. However, since the portion was large it was fine to just leave the bottom layer uneaten. The baked beans were better this visit. Not too spicy as previously served. They were just right. The mac and cheese was good. The ice tea was just right.

Delicious barbeque and beyond great service. We live in the Ashburn and took a walk around the lake then to the Village Shopping Center. Couldn't believe how fast our orders came out. With a hungry 4 year old and 6 year old that's important. When the little one didn't like his mac and cheese I ordered another meal. The manager charged me nothing even though the new order was a higher price. "Best fries ever," exclaimed the kids. I have to agree. And the barbeque is wonderful. Five stars for food and service. We'll be back.

With the Q in Leesburg, Carolina bros in Ashburn, Willard's in chantilly, and Famous daves in sterling, this place isnt making the grade. BBQ is sub par. The staff was in my eyes not there, asked a question and got the look around for the answer. Portions were small for the price and my brisket was 3/4 fat to the 1/4 bland meat. Been here 2 times once when they first opened and again recently and both times it was a MEH experience.

One of the better BBQ places in Northern Virginia, though anyone who lives here knows that's less than stellar. C'mon, this is the south, good BBQ should be part of the landscape. Sadly, not so much. Anyway, Urban BBQ is really one of the better places around. I gave it an average review because there was just nothing in between average and very good. My son and I split the 3 meat platter with ribs, brisket and sausage. The ribs weren't as tender as they could have been, though the flavor was good. Ditto brisket. Real star of this plate was the sausage, EXCELLENT! Also got mashed potatoes and mac and cheese, both of which were good. Cornbread was fresh, moist and really, really good. BF got the pulled chicken, I thought it was just average (but I'm not much of a pulled meat fan anyway). Sauces were decent enough, thankfully they weren't as sweet as most places around here but still, sweet enough. They had almost enough heat to balance it out. Oddly, the best thing I had were the soul rolls, which are eggrolls filled with bbq, cheese and green onions, served with a cheese and chili dipping sauce. This is not a combination that should work but it does, in a major way. 4 days later and I'm still dreaming about the soul rolls. Service was good, pleasant and pretty efficient. They are good enough and close enough that I'd go back there, especially on 1/2 price rib night and 1/2 price appetizer night!

I visited this place for the first time today. I had a pulled chicken sandwich with sides if cole slaw and beans. It wasn't the best I've ever had nor was it the worst. I will go back again and try another item on the menu. I did get the Key Lime Pie for dessert and have to say it was the best I have ever eaten. It had a graham cracker/crushed pecan crust which was a bit different. Next time I will try the pecan pie.

Had the pork and beef combo with potato salad and baked beans. Everything was great! Different seasonings and spices made each item unique. Sauces were good and they have a nice beer list with a local flavor too! Looking forward to trying their burger next. Only gripe is that it is a bit expensive for the smallish-strip-mall location that they're in...food was worth it though! Oh yeah, Carolina Bros. has got nothing on this place!

Best BBQ in VA. Goodness gracious I went back the NEXT day it was so good. I don't play with great food. I got the ribs, macaroni and cheese, mashed potatoes, and the second time the ribs, mac n cheese, and the BBQ beans. Both meals can with cornbread which was also good. The side portions were on the small side, but what lacked in size made up in taste! All five stars and they had REAL SWEET TEA just like in Georgia. They make everything from scatch and you can tell and taste it. The staff is VERY friendly and the establishment has high ceilings so it has a open feel with vintage style decorations that makes you feel at home. Highly recommend it. The price was right as well :)

I was prepared to give this place 5 stars - service was awesome, everyone was really friendly. Let me explain where they lost a star. I got a pulled chicken sandwich and found several pieces of cartilage; not just one, which is maybe to be expected, but several to the point where I couldn't eat anymore and left it half unfinished. This to me is a 1-star, 2-star max experience, but my husband and daughter split St Louis ribs and pulled pork with the Carolina BBQ sauce, and absolutely LOVED it - which is a 5-star experience. My husband also reported that the mac & cheese and collard greens were incredible. Also, they have amazing hand-cut fries. I was disappointed that they only had packets of mustard instead of a pump, because they have corn dogs on the menu. I also did not like that once it got busy they started calling out orders by name for you to go up and get it - we arrived just before the dinner crowd so someone brought ours out to us which was really nice. But as I am a SAHM with a toddler, I couldn't imagine going for lunch and having to go up to get our food while holding my daughter.

I love good wholesome Bar-B-Que... it had been a while since my last taste when I walked through the door of this restaurant. I ordered a half rack of ribs, which came with a side of potato salad, collard greens, and cornbread. It was a nice amount of food so I figured I would save the leftovers for the next day. NOT A CHANCE! The food was so GOOD I couldn't stop eating. For a girl trying to maintain her weight this is not a good thing - however, being a fat girl at heart I have been unable to resist and have been back at least four times since my first visit. The atmosphere is nice, the staff are super friendly the food is great!!!
