Went for a date (what, not all girls are snobby spoiled brats), ordered a Mexican pizza with like 5 changes or additions, nbd to them. The pizza came by quickly, hot, well cooked, and DELICIOUS. Fresh ingredients, just enough sour cream on top, and great Chipotle pesto (I'm Mexican, btw). Not a romantic setting, but I'm a salsa/bachata dancer, so I got that covered. Overall clean, friendly staff, great music to relieve any non existing pressure I would've had 5 years ago. Not cheap though, I got the 12 for 20 deal and still spent $21. That included 2 drinks. But I digress. It's worth it. She was happy with the food, we went dancing, Montezuma didn't visit, full yet felt light, and had a great rest of the night. Lived happily ever after? Not sure yet. The end.

If you're looking for a gluten free pizza, this is the place to go. The crust is crispy and comes with a variety of toppings including pre-set options and build your own. The one restriction is that it has to be a large or smaller (not an extra large). The downside of this spot is the wait: tonight we were unsuccessful calling ahead or ordering online. When we went to the store we were told it would be 15- 20 minutes for our pizza. After that amount of time we were told that ours was "in the oven" and would be "the next one out." That was obviously a lie because 45 minutes after that we got our pizza. Not sure the aggravation of being lied to is worth the wait. Avoid this place if they're busy; their estimated amount of time is not accurate.

I used to be a regular customer here, but today's experience put an end to that forever. After a two hour wait, I received a call from the manager saying that my $35 order would not be delivered because the driver quit due to heavy traffic -- in the middle of delivering my order. I did not dispute the traffic fact. However, my issue is that the manager did nothing but say he was sorry. He did not try to build consensus or offer to make things right in the future, etc. That's poor customer service and not a way to run a business. Zpizza is not the only game in town and I will NEVER order from there again even if they are giving food away. I told the manager that he should put a chain and padlock over the doors and close the place down if he doesn't have any solutions. He said he would not be doing that. I'll let you make your own mind up. I can't control the traffic, delivery driver, etc., but I can appreciate a manager who attempts to make things right. Unfortunately, this did not happen.

If you haven't tried their Berkley Vegan Pizza yet, you've been missing out. My boyfriend and I are hooked on it. The ingredients are so fresh and evenly placed around the pizza. This last time I had avocado added to my XL Berkley and there was a good slice of avocado on each piece of pizza for just 2.25 extra. The best part? The vegan Italian sausage! I could eat it on everything, it's so good. I'm hoping they add more vegan deliciousness to their menu soon! Oh and delivery is always pretty quick, too.

Just ok. The Tuscan is pretty good. I ordered the Sante Fe as a suggestion, and was less than impressed.

Fantastic customer service, and delicious pizza! I came here for dinner with my girlfriend and the staff was super helpful and polite! Our food was made very quickly since they were not too busy, and it was super delicious! Even better; there was a coupon available!

Great brick fire pizza, customer service was nice and I saw them making the dough in the store. That was awesome, check them out!!!! Right next to the Panara and Giant Food on Duke Street and Sweet Frogg was right next door thats a plus, lol.

Best vegan pizza! Wish they had a few more vegan options as I would probably go there more..great service, fast and delicious.

Customer service here is the worst. You can't use their coupon for deliveries OR specials. They act rude on the phone. Even though you buy a lot of food and spend a lot of money they treat you horribly as a customer.

Z pizza is the best. It's just so good I can't even describe it. I eat their Mexican pizza like once a week and their wings are really baller as well.

  • Jenny J.

Their pizzas are so good. The customer service is hit or miss (I've had good days and bad). Even on a bad customer service day, it's worth it for the delicious pizza!

  • Frank L.

Love that they have vegan options! The only place my family can eat pizza.

  • Jimmy F.

I eat at Z Pizza at least once a week and have always had a great experience. The pizza is always hot. On one occasion, they didn't have the slice that I wanted ready so I got another type then they brought the one I wanted for free! I will continue to eat here!

  • Wayne S.

Had the Sante Fe pizza and it was awesome. The pesto on the crust was my favorite part. Plus $8 for a 7" personal pizza is a good price. Staff was friendly and service was quick. Will definitely be eating here again.

I had been carrying a coupon from zpizza around in my wallet since last September, so when I was in the area last Monday I thought that it might be a good time to give it a try. There is only a small amount of seating and tables inside, but we got there about an hour before closing and it was pretty empty. Two of us split a Mediterranean Appetizer Plate and small Tuscan Pizza. The appetizer plate was baked pizza dough with a whole lot of different things - hummus, feta, olives, red peppers and cucumber. It was a decent amount of stuff - pretty much another pizza, except it's one you get to put together yourself. The tuscan pizza had garlic sauce, caramelized onions and a whole variety of mushrooms. The crust was thin and crispy, and the mushroom and sweet onion flavor combination was great. I would give zpizza 4 stars for the quality of food, 3 stars for value. And I'm rounding up since they seem to have plenty of deals - there are specials, and you can get even more discounts through this website or by signing up for their email list.

Thank goodness! A gluten free pizza crust that is a great consistency and crunch!!! I'm so glad I stumbled across this as a gluten free option. I got a buffalo chicken pizza (I believe) and it was SO yummy!!!!

I am writing this on behalf of my husband (as I do not eat pizza, at least not with gluten). We have been there twice for a pizza, and it has not been very good either time.

You see a lot of 4 and 5 star ratings and wonder why your experience was so different? I gave it a shot since I had a free coupon from a co-worker of mine -- and I don't see myself going back anytime. First of all -- you walk into a fun house atmosphere. The music is loud, the colors are even louder in the inside and I'm not sure how you can actually eat there and stay sane. Second of all -- they have pizza on a rotating stand that didn't look that fresh if you wanted to take a slice and run. I was getting mine for carry-out and I'm glad that I did. The cheese was lacking on mine -- I don't think they use a great mozzarella and that didnt' provide a great base for the toppings. They also used red peppers and green peppers are what you expect with a pizza. The staff was Ok but didn't seem welcoming or enthused to be working there. You expect more from a pizza place that welcomes families like this one seems to do. More then likely won't be going back in the near future.

Z-Pizza is my son's favorite pizza place- and that says a lot considering pizza is one of only 4 or 5 items he will eat. We eat there probably once a week and the food is always good. I especially like the pear and gorgonzola salad! If you are looking for good pizza, Z-Pizza is your place!

  • Morgan B.

The service here is not friendly. I ordered a pizza and a salad. The salad came out with slimy lettuce, and when I told the cashier, she took it and turned away. No offer of a new salad or refund. Ten minutes later, she walked past, threw a new salad on the table, and turned away- again, no words spoken. She had also told us when we paid that it would take about ten minutes. It took twenty-five to get the pizza (which she also threw-almost missing the table this time), which wasn't all that tasty, and was burned on the bottom. This place isn't very clean, there are crumbs all over the tables.

Do it. We love the vegan Berkeley. It's worth the wait. We also love that they make extra large pizzas (yay American glutton!). It's not greasy, they have AWESOME toppings, and if they get your order wrong (whoops!) they give you a free pizza :)

  • Anne L.

We've only been once so far and it was alright. The staff was nice, the place clean and the food was alright. Will have to go back and try more food

  • Parthena K.

I really like z pizza because they are so much less greasy than the average pizza delivery restaurant where I live- I don't feel like I'm eating "junk food" whenever I've ordered from here. I also think they deserve major props for offering vegan options when so few restaurants do, and for the unique combinations they have on some of their specialty pizzas. The only reason I didn't rate them higher is, honestly, the price. I don't expect high-quality food to be super cheap most of the time, but my last order entailed ordering a large pizza and 1 small, and the total bill with tip came to around $40. It's just super hard to justify ordering from here often based on that, even taking into account how much I like them. I would be a more frequent customer if they more often offered coupons for delivery- most of their coupons or Living Social-type deals are for carry-out only.

It has great pizza and very kid friendly delivery time is 10 to 15 minutes and great bathroom smell also they have a great selections of different kinds of beveages

I love Z Pizza! Their Gluten Free crust is so awesome that the non-gf people love it, too. I appreciate the organic ingredients and have never been disappointed at the quality. They have great specialty pies, too, so be sure to look at the menu. The BBQ chicken is pretty awesome as well as the Provence. Yum!

  • Anne S.

Wow, so I gave up on this zpizza a while ago because of their poor delivery service. Had a Living Social voucher so I thought I would give them one more chance. Once again, I waited for an hour and half at at which point I got a call from the driver who couldn't find my house. (It is in Google Maps and most updated GPS systems, by the way.) I gave him directions and he said he said he was just a minute away. Well, 15 minutes later I had to call him at which point I figured out he was in the wrong location about to deliver my food to another address. Two hours later and still no pizza . . .This has happened before with this zpizza spot, so I am officially taking my business elsewhere.

I went to try their gluten free pizza. I got the small Napoli with pepperoni. The pizza was tasty. The crust was good for gluten free with a nice crunch on the edges. I'm just glad to have some options. I don't love it and I don't hate it. Customer service was great though. I think the guy's name was Hugo. He was very nice and patient. He also explained everything about their gluten free options to me. I'll go back if I'm in the area again.

Loved it!! New favorite pizza place for two reasons. 1)amazing taste 2) it's healthy. Total win for me

Mmm....delicious. Fresh, healthy, diverse options to choose from. I go here all the time with my girlfriend.

  • Alex W.

I used a yelp deal to get an extra large pizza, which I wouldn't have otherwise bothered to get from this place. I ordered it and was told 20-25 minutes, showed up only to find it wasn't ready and in total ended up waiting about 45-50 minutes for it. The pizza was mediocre at best, which super thin tasteless crust and not great toppings. I wouldn't bother with this place.

ZPizza is our favorite pizza! And this is our favorite ZPizza place. The crust is thin and crisp and the ingredients sooo fresh!

  • Alena V.

I love ZPizza!! This place is definitely one of my favorite places to go for lunch or dinner. This summer, I have been going there several times a week with my boyfriend because we've been so busy renovating a condo and there is no time to cook. There are a few favorite pizza flavors that I would give five stars. The salads are decently portioned and they use healthy greens instead of iceburg lettuce. Also, ZPizza is pretty awesome to frequently offer coupons and teacher discounts! We've been using them, and it makes our meals very affordable!

This pizza place is highly rated from Washingtonian magazine, I was more impressed with their sandwiches I had the avocado chicken, which was very fresh and a lil bit spicy but very good. To top it off I had to try a slice of cheese and it was very average, which isn't a bad thing cuz I wasn't expecting top of the line. I will be back try to more of the sandwiches and probably the BBQ pizza as well.

ZPizza is terrific! If you look at my previous reviews, you will notice I am allergic to all. the. food. I am also vegan. In the '80s, I would never have been able to find something to eat. In the '90s, also probably out of luck. The good thing about living in the future (2k+) is even on such a restrictive diet, I can eat pizza. The gluten-free crust is actually vegan and major-allergen-free. They have the magic of Diaya vegan cheese. They have an array of ingredients that just make you drool. They are in my delivery area, but they don't deliver in flying cars even though it's well after 2000. It's also too bad I don't have a Rosie robot to clean up the mess after I inhale my pizza. In summary: we live in the future. We don't have flying cars or robot maids. We have pizza for everyone.

I always get the Vegan Berkeley, it is definite must try for anybody. The restaurant is a little tiny and I would not order off the rotating stand unless its an emergency. But i don't tend to order food that sits on a warmer. The food is absolutely worth the price and the staff was very friendly.

Two years ago I used to love Zpizza. I can't say the same now. Sure, their service is pretty good. They offer alot of options, but their ingredients have gone down the drain. The quality went from a 10 to a 4. Their crust seems dry and their cheese barely has taste. Also, their toppings are ok. The place I have found to replace it is Flippin Pizza. Flippin Pizza is making pizza like Zpizza used to.

Their vegan pizza is so good. Even my non vegan coworkers loved it!

I've eaten at this Z Pizza many times. The service is always pleasant and service is as fast as can be expected. On one occasion, we dined in and paid for to-go items, giving them instructions to wait to cook the to-go items, so they'd be hot when we left. They did exactly what was asked of them. My to-go pizzas were piping hot when I left with them, and everyone enjoyed them once I arrived. I've tried many kinds of pizzas here and have never been disappointed. My go to is the pear and gorgonzola rustica. I'm not even into blue cheese, but I always get this pizza. The combo is amazing!!!!! I've also had a few salads and they are always fresh with a good mix of flavors and textures. I don't like much pizza around these parts, but Z has made it a little easier to get pizza I like. Bonus for making them with organic and wholesome ingredients.

  • Drew S.

An interesting twist on a pizza place. When you walk in, it smells like a real pizzeria. Even though it is a change, zPizza seems to push using quality ingredients, and it shows in the taste of their pizza. I'm a huge fan of the rustica pizzas. This particular location is not really visible from the road, but is colocated with the Panera Baja Fresh in the upper parking lot area of the shopping center. The inside isn't that huge, so take-out or delivery is a better option. I'm outside the 3-mile radius, but find the food good enough to go in and pick up. The franchise also offers great coupon deals online. Check their website out for more.

Love the pizza, but delivery times consistently exceed an hour. Yesterday it was an hour and 25 minutes. Boo.

  • Jessie L.

Good pizza!! We have only ordered the whole wheat crust, it's a little dry but not too bad! The California salad was delicious! The deal that yelp had $10 for $20 made it so much easier on the price!

    (3)
  • Elizabeth L.

I've only tried the delivery via grubhub.com but the food was great. We had the Pear and Gorgonzola Rustica Pizza with a wheat crust -- delish! The ZBQ Salad -- fantastic. And my boyfriend had the Curry Chicken Sandwich which I took a bite of and loved. Much better than the other pizza delivery options (ie: Dominos, Papa Johns) around here.

    (5)
  • Ceceilia M.

I enjoyed the Yelp deal ($10 for $20 worth of food). I ordered online, said I pay with cash. 15 minutes later, I went to pick up my food. It was hot and ready. Showed my coupon code on my phone and went home to dig in. I had the jumbo buffalo wings, they were delish!. I also enjoyed my Tuscan pizza. I thought the thickness of the whole wheat crust was just right, not to thin, but not over thick that you feel full of guilt after eating it. NO THIS IS NOT PIZZA HUT, PAPA JOHNS, OR DOMINOS. Nor is it your average New York greasy slice. But the great part is that it taste great, you taste the freshness and you don't feel like you gained 10 lbs or clogged your arteries after eating. I encourage all to try!

  • Brad G.

I am so happy that ZPizza has a vegan option to get my pizza fix. The Berkeley Vegan has yet to disappoint my taste buds. Other than the occasional misunderstanding of the staff's ability to communicate well in the English language, their service is unmatched and their friendly attitude makes every visit pleasurable. Fantastic pizza, great vibe, good food!

  • Rachel S.

I always get delivery from here. Although it takes a long time to deliver each time I order and it is pretty expensive, it never disappoints. The wings are absolutely gigantic and are pretty healthy for chicken wings. The California Salad is chock full of actual vegetables and protein other than simply spinach. It's a delicious, healthy place to get delivery from.

I've only ordered from zpizza once prior to the time this review is about, and that was their location in Columbia, SC. The pizza we got from there was absolutely perfect... so I guess I had my hopes up. We ordered from this location on a Thursday night using their online ordering system. We got an extra-large pizza with a whole wheat crust, vegan cheese, tomatoes, bell peppers, pineapple, and carmelized onions. The exact same pizza we ordered from the SC location, but one size larger. Their website said it would take about an hour for delivery and I believe that was pretty accurate, so no problem there. The pizza was kinda disappointing. While it was warm, the crust was tough and hard to bite through like pizza that has been sitting out a while. I would expect the whole wheat crust to be denser, but I'm talking so tough you have to clamp down with your teeth and RIP the pizza away from your mouth. The cheese and toppings stopped about 3 inches away from the edge of the pizza... no joke. They were all in the middle. And as for the toppings... well there were about as many of them as should have been on a large pizza. Getting the extra large was a waste of money because the only thing we got more of was bread. I would not order pizza from this location again, maybe they were just super busy, I'm not sure. It just looked like they half-assed it... and I'm not going to pay $30 for a half-assed pizza again.

  • Dawn B.

The delivery service was good and arrived on time. The food itself was decent. The toppings on the whole wheat pizza were delicious, but the whole wheat crust was less than satisfying. I love most whole wheat products so its not like I'm just not a fan of the dough. It tasted like the dough had been microwaved and not brick-oven baked. I've had their salads and sandwiches before bbq chicken, curry chicken and their chicken with a latin flavor, which are all delicious so I guess its just what you get at the time.

GOOD GRIEF. I love the pizza.. when they actually get it to me and the order is correct. Out of the six times we've ordered, it's gone smoothly two times. Two times the driver got lost and the pizzas arrived around the 1.5 to 2 hour mark and were obviously cold, and the other two times there was something wrong with the order. The online ordering system is a disaster. Great in theory, terrible in practice. Each time they've profusely apologized and offered money off the next order, but even when the dudes got LOST, they did not offer to at least take off the delivery charge. -Edit- Right after writing the review, the owner contacted me and ensured he'd speak with the store's manager. He also sent coupons. I have no doubt that they are committed to great service and good food. I just hope they're able to consistently do so from here on out. the online ordering system is also a bear, and I'm sure some of the issues are not really their fault.. It was a very very nice gesture for him to get in contact. I'm sure I will put them to use, but I need to convince my friends to give them another whirl.

I haven't written a review in awhile, but there are rare instances when a place impresses me enough to want to log in here and give credit where credit is due. We got carry out from here the other day with a voucher. Ordered a berkley vegan and a napoli pizza to go. When we got to zpizza, we walked up to the cashier and there was a very sweet, smiling asian man (I think the owner or manager?). I told him about my voucher and he was such a trusting man that he hardly even looked at it (he didn't even get the voucher number off of it!). Of course, I marked it at as redeemed. I also think that he may have given us an extra discount because I'm pretty sure the voucher was for just one large pizza only. Of the two large pizzas we ordered, one was about $16 and some cents and the other was about $17 and some cents, but the total he charged us was only $15 something. If he did, in fact, give us an extra discount, I definitely noticed and appreciated it because the total would not have even covered the price of one pizza we ordered, let alone the tax! Getting back to the story, one pizza was ready when we came (we only called about 10 min or less before we got there because we were in the area, walking around Old Town Alexandria that day), and the other was still cooking. The sweet asian man brought one box out to us with plates, utensils, and napkins saying that we could eat it now while we waited for the other pizza. We preferred to wait, instead, and take both to go. When we said it was okay, he took the box back to put it back in the warmer for us while the other pizza was being made. The other pizza didn't take long either- only about another 5 min or less. Then the same man brought both pizza boxes out to us and insisted he show us our order, while smiling the whole time. We trusted that the order was right, but let him show us the pizzas as he insisted. We took the pizzas to go and they were very delicious! I'm not a vegetarian at all, but wanted to try the berkley vegan anyway. I was honestly a fan of it! It had plenty of vegetables on top. The napoli was also very good. For those who prefer a healthier pizza, I also learned that you could choose wheat dough for the pizza. I will probably do this next time. Do you know how you feel the rare times that you go inside a business and you leave just being in a better mood because someone exuded such warmth, genuine care, and sincere kindness? It's honestly rare these days (at least for me)! I'm the type of person whose attitude or kindness affects my mood (can be a bad thing, really), but in this case, I left feeling happier for it. I walked out the door, saying, "Wow, he was so friendly and so nice." I was touched, really, and in a state of surprise for at least another hour or so afterwards yesterday. I really recommend everyone to stop by and get their pizza here. We live in Rockville, so it's a pretty far hike for us, but otherwise, I'd be getting zpizza from here all the time. I suggest those who are closer to frequent this pizza place because it was really a wonderful experience here.

I realize that I'm going against the Yelp grain, but I thoroughly enjoyed the Zpizza experience I had on Saturday. Ordering online was a convenient affair, and our order was delivered 20 minutes earlier than estimated even though the driver was battling a downpour. Peeking inside the cardboard box, I was thrilled by the generous crown of clipped basil and fresh oregano, the amber caramelized onions, and the blistered crust. Soon, we were savoring a chewy thin crust redolent of yeast, pungent crushed tomatoes, gooey skim mozzarella cheese, and chicken sausage flavored with marjoram, lemon, and black pepper, all lightly sweetened by the onions and kissed with herb tendrils. The bright, fresh flavors were enlivening and satisfying, but the pizza managed to remain surprisingly light (prompting me to ingest three slices). Despite a stuffy nose, my companion agreed that this pizza far surpassed our other delivery options. Now, I won't pretend that Zpizza has bargain prices. Though they distribute coupons regularly, you can expect to pay $15 dollars (before tipping) for a large pizza with a couple of toppings (they do offer gratis basil, oregano, and finishing oil). However, I feel that the quality of the ingredients and finished product justifies the pricing (and makes it easy to meet their $20 minimum order for delivery). I would highly recommend ordering extra sauce, as the organic red sauce is mostly crushed tomatoes and somewhat absorbs into the crust. And, if you're expecting a New York style pizza, you will be disappointed. But, if you're looking for something fresh that is bursting with flavor, I would sample a couple of their inspired pies. Yummy.

This zPizza has let me down one too many times. And I was excited when they opened, because we were growing tired of our usual delivery options, plus their menu seemed so creative and somewhat "healthful." For pizza anyway. I won't even get into the food, because it's fine. Definitely NOT worth the money, but just fine. It's the service/management here that is beyond poor. First attempt with zPizza: login to website, order a pizza and salad, wait. And wait. And wait some more. Pizza and salad arrive. Completely wrong pizza. Not even close. Call zPizza back, pretty upset because we waited so long to begin with, were told another order would be sent. So we wait. And wait. And wait some more. Second pizza arrives, this time it's correct, and they take the first pizza back. Really? Second attempt at zPizza, several months later figuring first time might have been a fluke. Let's give the benefit of the doubt, maybe they were having growing pains. Order pizza online. Wait wait wait. WRONG PIZZA ARRIVES. This time I hadn't let the delivery guy walk away before opening the box to check it out, so I sent it back with him, then called the manager. Manager was annoyed with me, sighed a lot, acted exasperated, sent another pizza. I shot an email to corporate via the zPizza website. They were quite apologetic and sent a gift certificate for $25. I thought that was nice -- until I realized the cert was for this disorganized location of zPizza ONLY. Fine. One last try a few months later only because of the gift certificate. This time I WENT to the store, thinking that this might prevent any eff-ups. Ordered. Sat to wait. And wait, you get the idea. Eat-in diners CAME AND WENT. Call in orders CAME AND WENT. Still I sat waiting. Finally, I said something to the guy behind the counter. He looked around confused. He checked the oven. He checked the boxes waiting to go. Apparently no one had put in my order. I walked out. NEVER AGAIN zPizza, NEVER AGAIN. Three strikes. Complete incompetence at sky-high prices? Unacceptable.

Great everytime! Real ingredients make a difference. Boyfriend says pizza needs more sauce. I think everything was just fine! Boyfriend says to add he is an authority in food and beverage service.

For anyone who is health-conscious, it's hard to beat zpizza. My personal favorite is the Mexican pizza with the fatty sour cream and avocado subbed for more healthy veggies. Ordering online or over the phone is super easy and convenient. Ingredients always fresh and the whole wheat crust is healthy and delicious. In a nutshell: delicious pizza, minimal grease, thin crust, amazing variety of preparation options and ingredients, easy ordering, helpful staff. Oh and for those inclined to get dessert, the apple pie pizza is pretty awesome.

Not once but twice in the past three weeks my husband and I have been turned away from the Duke Street location. On both occasions we arrived at 8:40 to grab a pizza ahead of the 9 pm closing. Both times the shop was already closed for the night. We were very rudely told last night that even though the store hours are clearly stated on the front door, that the location did not wish to have our business since "it had been a slow night and decided to shut down early." Once is a fluke, but twice is a pattern of bad service. If you close at 8:40 then the hours should reflect that. We also don't appreciate as repeat (attempted repeat) customers to be told to evacuate the premises like we were in the wrong. We love ZPizza, it truly is great pizza, and hope this location is not indicative of the whole, but I wouldn't risk the late night run to this location if you have your heart set on service...or pizza.

Throw out the atmosphere which is very much like a typical strip mall chain restaurant, and the fact the staff isn't what you'd expect to be behind the counter of a pizza place ... and you got a pretty decent pizza. Simple, thin crust, very low grease, and quite tasty ... definitely pizza for the yuppie class in Alexandria, I say that lovingly as I am one of them. The salads are great, calzones are very good as well. I'd recommend the American Pizza (meat-lover esque) ... compared to the typical Pizza places way beyond ... compared to Valentino's, another speciality pizza place in the city, this one has less grease, better toppings, easier accesability, better side dishes, and comparably (if not cheaper) prices. Highly recommend for those who love pizza, but can't handle the grease.

I've eaten there twice but I doubt I'll be in a hurry to go back. Everything was just average, down the line. Pizza tasted fine but was a bit expensive for what you get. Considering that there's at least 4 pizza places closer to me (Generous Georges, Quatro Formaggi, Jerry's, and a new place who's name I don't recall) this just doesn't stand out as anything special and it takes longer to get to, heck I can walk to three of those, but for this I have to drive. I'd give it a go if someone else wanted to but most of my friends are content to eat at the closer ones.

I saw some good reviews of this so checked it out, but I can't understand why people rave about the pizza. The ingredients are fresh and they have decent choices for vegetarians and omnivores, but the whole package is uninspired. The sauce and crust don't add much to the equation. It pales in comparison to pizza such as Pizzeria Paradiso, Pete's New Haven and Two Amys in DC. The salad choices weren't bad either so you won't go away hungry, but again, uninspired. The decor also does not whet the appetite. It looks and feels just like a fast-food joint. If it is your only choice, go for it, but you should be able to find much better.

I just moved up here from California last week. I didn't know pizza place like this one back there... in fact Zpizza is in CA everywhere specially San Diego area where i used to live a few years back. We order a Large American & Italian Half & Half and Antipasto Salad.Salad was delicious, According to my husband pizza was excellent(I can't really eat anything but vegetable right now but, pizza looked great) , my son 2 years old ate 3 big pieces. He said "yum yum" he loved it. Other than what we ordered i want to try Thai Pizza with peanut sauce and Greek Pizza, pear and Gorgonzola salad, pretty much everything on the menu. Zpizza is definitely our favorite pizza place.

One star partly to bring this 4.5 star rating down a hair, partly for the price, and mostly because the pizza flat out sucks. Right in line with many (but not all) things "Washingtonian" - I disagree. If you like "west coast" pizza, ignore this review. I'm a pizza slut... love a good slice. I went for Zpizza today on the advice of the Yelpers here and I'm really disappointed. I had some family coming over and did not want to cook. It was suggested I order some pizza to keep it simple so I turned to Yelp! Z rated the best bet close to me so I went for it. $72.00 got me the following 1 medium pepperoni 1 medium cheese 1 medium Neapolitan 1 meatball sub 2 2 liters of soda That was pricey. The pizza is way too floppy. Just drowning in cheese and void of the toppings. You can't hold a slice up from the crust, it will fold over. On the positive side, you can order and pay on line, which I appreciated. The box is excited to tell you about the organic California tomato sauce and the premium Montana winter wheat. No thank you. I'd prefer a good slice of pie over organic ingredients. If you're in the market for a gourmet, organic, over priced pizza... this is for you. If you're the standard pizza eater, you're better off with (ugh...) Domino's or Pizza Hut. Which at that point - just go ahead and buy those awesome frozen pies from Trader Joe's. Sorry kids, Zpizza is another California venture gone bad. Pass on this one. This isn't east coast pizza by a long shot.

I love Zpizza, it is on a bit pricey of certain items but if you enter your email online they email you good deals. Offer vegan/vegetarian options.

Fantastic selection! I don't know many other pizza chains that have options such as the Tuscan mushroom pizza which is drizzled with truffle oil. I love the Moroccan pizza, I've never been a huge eggplant fan, so I was very surprised by how much I liked this pizza. My office often gets zpizza for lunch. There menu is well rounded, they have great salads, calzones, and sandwiches. If you have a sweet tooth you can also get there dessert pizza, a take on an apple pie. They have a great lunch special that is 2 pizza slices and drink for under $7.

Applies to Arlington, Alexandria and Springfield location. Best pizza EVER. The sauce is phenomenal! Whole wheat crust is nothing like PJ's failed attempt and a plethora amount of toppings. They got a gluten free crust I plan on trying. Order online. Go for quality. Go for the Z!

I struggled over the number of stars. While I agree that the healthy ingredients are great and the taste of Zpizza is clearly superior to other chains, I'm not ready to say this is the best pizza I' ve had. I think I will give them the fourth star based on using quality ingredients. I am hard to please in the pizza arena having been spoiled by Ray's in New York and Anthony's in Denver. Also, the location itself is not much of a restaurant. It is definintely a fast food place with limited seating. I was slightly disappointed because I, perhaps wrongly, had the impression it was actually a sit down restaurant.

I went here for the first time 3 months ago (July 2011). I love plain calzones (just chese and sauce), but they don't have this on their menu. I asked if I could order a plain one and the girl replied, "Um, I don't know if we can make that." After a couple minutes of back-and-forth, she finally said, "Sure we can do this," and I got my plain calzone. I couldn't understand why it was so hard (it actually took her four rounds of questioning me to make sure I didn't want anything else in it, and then she had to ask her manager to make sure it was okay!!). In the end, though, the calzone tasted fine so no big complaint there. I went back last weekend (Oct 7, 2011) and my experience at the counter was similarly bad, but the calzone was terrible this time. As with the first time around, I ordered a "plain calzone." The guy at the counter said, "You mean the one with the vegetables?" I said, "No. Mozzarella, ricotta, and sauce." He just COULD NOT comprehend this. He told me that he didn't know if it could be made--!!!--and then took almost 3 full minutes (not kidding--an entire song passed before he looked back up at me) to punch this into the register. When I finally got my calzone, it was awful. There was maybe 2 tablespoons of sauce, NO mozzarella, and an entire package of ricotta cheese. I actually had to use a fork to scoop out the insane amount of ricotta inside the calzone. When I realized there was almost no sauce in the calzone, I went to the counter to request extra sauce. They gave me a cup full of COLD sauce. The worst of it all was that when I paid for the calzone, it was MORE expensive than the meat and veggie ones on their menu. The cashier's reason? "You had two kinds of cheese." ?!?!? I was floored. I was ripped off for $9 and a crappy calzone. I could get a BETTER, cheaper one in the heart of NYC or Chicago. I'm definitely not coming back to this place. How hard is it to create such an easy calzone?!

The pizza is good but definitely not great. Overall, it is too expensive for what you get (the pizzas seem particularly small).

Good variety and fresh ingredients. Tuesday night deal gives you a second large for 5 bucks. The zbq pizza is great!

This is the best delivery pizza I've found in the area. I like the crust, and the combinations of toppings. Great selection of toppings. I would gladly give more stars if they would get their customer service act together. I strongly recommend ordering online because it seems that no one who answers the phone understands English. I spelled a street name five or six times, S L O W L Y, before they got it. And they didn't seem to understand what toppings I wanted. Mushrooms. How hard is "mushrooms?!" So I just order online, my pizza shows up, and all is right with the world.

I was looking to spend a bit of time in the restaurant, so my first question was "do you have wireless Internet?" The man at the register said, "Yes," so I placed an order. While I waited, I found a table, set up the laptop, and found no network. When I asked again, he dug under the counter and produced an inoperative, ancient router to prove that they had a network. "How do I get on it?" he had no answer for that. "What's the network called? Is there a password?" He took a look at my screen and pointed at the Panera network. "No, that's not your network. That's Panera." They're a few doors down." Again, no reply. The waitress brought the pizza out, slapped it on the table, turned and walked off without ever saying a word, making eye contact, or acknowledging that I was there in any way. So the rating is mostly for the staff. The expense was what drove it over the edge to one star. The pizza I tried, "Provence" was actually pretty good. It was twice as expensive as it should have been, but it was tasty and the toppings (artichoke, basil, tomato, mozzarella and capers) were fresh. I probably won't be going back. Even if I somehow find myself in the area again, the place is surrounded by other restaurants.

Recently voted "Best Pizza Restaurant" and "Best Pizza Delivery" in Washingtonian magazine Zpizza is a rising star in the otherwise tired pizza industry. Already a household name in California, the gourmet pizza chain with a heath conscious twist, has expanded across the country and currently has over 50 locations. Lucky for us, we have a restaurant right here in our neck of the woods-Alexandria, Va. The 17 signature pizzas that grace the Zpizza menu combine art and flavor---bringing more to the table than your average pizza. Original combinations like artichoke hearts and shitake mushrooms which form to make Zpizza's tasty Tuscan Mushroom pizza, or lime chicken and salsa which combine making the Mexican pizza, offer customers a fresh taste at an all too familiar concept. I recommend the Thai pizza which combines peanut sauce, mozzarella, spicy chicken, carrots, cilantro, sprouts and Serrano chilies- it's my favorite. If you aren't feeling the pizza selection you can also check out their specialty calzones, sandwiches and salads. (This place has something for everyone.) Zpizza's atmosphere is very California- vibrant fresh colors. I would recommend calling for delivery or just dropping by for pick up, there is limited seating. Overall, I loved Zpizza because their food didn't make me feel bad after I ate it. They created a product that looks, tastes and feels good to the customer...and their health conscious ingredients made a big difference. ************************************ FULL DISCLOSURE: I work for Fransmart a franchise development company that is helping Zpizza expand nationally. Please note that I am in no way trying to sell Zpizza, I just believe that it has the best pizza around and that if you try it once you will be a fan.

I only give this place two stars because they sent me a buy one get one free coupon in the mail. The pizza sucked, especially for what the "normal price" was. Without the coupon, the price of a pizza is 20 dollars or more. It was very soggy. Maybe asking for it well done is the way to go.

Based on a friend's recommendation (he recommended it based on the one in Herndon) I decided the give this a try. I'm an Italian Store fan pizza-wise, but my friend raved about it so much that he said if I didn't think it was worth the money, he'd buy it for me. Ok so I ordered the Pear Gorgonzola Salad and a Cheese pizza with the Basil. First, the people taking orders need to turn up the volume. We had to repeat our order 3 times, and my credit card number 4 times. Even then they screwed up our order. The Pizza was mediocre at best. Usually when I spend $20 on a cheese pizza, I have high expectations (Italian Store, Luciano's, etc). I'd take Matchbox pizza over this any day of the week. The other option I had that night was Listrani's. I think I should have gone with that. Next time I'll just go to the Italian Store and get one, especially now that my friend owes me a pizza.

I just want to second the comments made by Katie M.; this is great pizza that, luckily for Washingtonians, has come to the East Coast. I remember having their pizza out in Southern California, and I loved their Hawaiian pizza especially. My girlfriend recently got their regular cheese pizza and she loved it! And eating cold leftover pizza can sometimes be hit or miss, but Z pizza is still great the day after. A welcome alternative to the mediocre stuff served by the Dominos, Papa Johns, and Pizza Huts.

My sister and BIL told us they loved this place. We were disgusted by the quality of the pizza. Honestly, it is like Jerry's pizza at a much higher price. We guess people like it because of the topping choices, but if you're putting good toppings on a crappy crust, you're wasting your time. Don't bother.

I went to the restaurant on Rt. 1. The pizza was mediocre at best. This was no "hand tossed" pizza. The ingredients were fair. No real flavor to the pizza. The price was too high for the lack of quality.

Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.

Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types.
