I don't hand out needless praise, so understand when I say that this is 1 of the top 3 chicken dinners I've ever eaten - that I am in fact serious. I would like to rent an apartment upstairs so I can smell that delicious fragrance all the time. The chicken aroma was so fantastic that I had to slow myself while eating my basic (but adequate) salad. The skin was perfectly crisp and spiced to perfection, and the flavor went all the way through the tender, moist - dare I say succulent? - breast. The steak fries and the accompanying dip were also good but I was so full from demolishing the chicken I only ate a few. Well worth the trip!!

I put off writing this review for a while, hoping to come up w/ something wordy and eloquent to describe the food at Su Pollo. But twas a fool's errand. In short... This is the dependable chicken joint down the way. And god bless them for being just that. Sure, you can dabble in their non-traditional fare (FWIW the lomo saltado was delicious, if not a veritable gut bomb of the highest order). But the pollo is the standard. And although it's not the best I've ever had, it's better than most and fairly consistent. (That sounds like a low bar but believe me, being good and consistent is a rare thing in a food joint around Fort Belvoir.) Tip: Avoid the lunchtime knife fight, arrive and order by 11:30.

A-okay, in my book. I've been here several times and I must admit, I've had better Peruvian Chicken, rice and beans elsewhere. I was looking forward to juicy flavorful Peruvian chicken on my last visit. What I got was chicken with crispy skin and a flavorless breast. The skin had all the flavor. The meat wasn't dry, but it left a lot to be desired. The rice and beans were good and the plantains were cooked nicely. As aforementioned, this place is good... but I wouldn't go as far as calling it great. The customer service and the prices are pretty good. I would come back only due to the convenience of the location.

Pretty good for a Peruvian chicken joint! Everything was delicious! The chicken was perfect...tender and flavorful. We also ordered the rice and salad. The rice wasn't dry and had a nice flavor. Loved the dressing on the salad!
(4)Brandi H.
One of the best Peruvian chicken spots in the area. Everything has tons of flavor. The chicken is tender, the sides are good, and the sauces are the BEST. Like most of these chicken places, the building isnt much and the service is standard. I would visit more often if I lived closer.
(4)Susan T.
My friend and I stopped here on the way home from site seeing and were both pretty hungry. I had a loaded chicken wrap that was very large (I saved half for my evening meal) with rice on the side. My friend had a steak and cheese sandwich that looked quite filling. I heard no complaints. He had the fried plantains as well. With bottled drinks our total was 20.71 and seemed reasonable for the quality and amount of food we received. The environment was like a fast food restaurant where you ordered at the counter but they brought the food to your table when it was done. I wasn't looking for fine dining so I'm not rating it so much on the ambiance. If I lived close by, I'd be eating here frequently.

This will now be a regular stop when I am looking for good Peruvian food! My husband and I ordered the whole chicken dinner and everything was amazing! We had the whole chicken, salad, yuca fries, and plantains. Everything was cooked to perfection and tasted amazing. We did end up ordering a second chicken and it made 4 lunches for us during the week. I also tried the beef empanada and it was baked and super moist with a flakey crust. The service was fast and great!
(5)Karma K.
Love it! Parking was easy, it is a family restaurant Peruvian style restaurant so it is loud. Reviewers big babies that complaint about music lol I was surprise there wasn't a live band which is traditional at Peruvians restaurants. The salad is bigger than a cole slaw side dish, and I can tell they make their own dressing sauce so it is real good mmm Chicken was perfect. I will recommend this place to anyone who love to eat good food
(5)Sara W.
If you think you have had the best Peruvian chicken and you haven't been to Su Pollo, you haven't had the best yet. Tender, full flavor chicken. Super crispy yuca fries and a rice that has a great garlic flavor. The inside seating area is a little small as this place is so popular and it fills up quickly.
(5)Ava E.
Great Peruvian food! I ordered the tri tip sandwich and it was delish! Had grilled onions packed with steak! Definitely recommend !!

About 2.5: Aw, I was disappointed that Su Pollo was inconsistent in their Peruvian chicken preparation and their service! My friend and I came here after getting our nails down a few blocks down, and I suggested this place as she has never tried Peruvian chicken before; I remember Su Pollo being so delicious! When we walked in, it was kind of disorganized; there were people waiting for their carry-out orders, and there was a short line at the cashier. The owner/manager didn't really seemed to care whether there were people waiting and was more interested in socializing with one of his friends. We got there around 8PM, so we had a good solid hour before the restaurant closed down. It literally took about 30 minutes to get our orders in and to wait for our meal to be called out! One of the staff was already cleaning up the dining area and had the tables tilted and the chairs put away! It was kind of off. When we finally received our food, I pointed out that we are planning on dining in, since we still had a good solid half an hour (cough). The chicken itself had great skin, but the meat inside was a little too 'wet' and seemed to not be as succulent and juicy the previous experience - there were some part of the meat that seemed to be slightly undercooked and not cooked all the way through. You could swap out the green sauce with the aji sauce, so that was nice, and the employees didn't seem to put up a fight when I asked for a couple more. I was a little sad as I thought Su Pollo could be added to my Peruvian chicken favorites, but I am not sure if I'd go back! :( +extremely long wait to put your orders in in the late evenings +restaurant prepares to close shop at 8PM, even though they close at 9PM +chicken is inconsistent in terms of preparation +difficult in turning in off of Route 1

The food here is amazing! I've been searching for a place that's comparable to Crisp & Juicy in Tyson's and this place is on par. Their yuca is AMAZING. Much better than C&J's. My only issue is their sauce isn't as good, but the sauce they put for the salad is actually better than the dipping sauce they use for the chicken and yuca, so that's what I usually use. They're a great pick me up
(4)Iris C.
I'm sick of all these pollo joints on route one. Can't we have one decent Vietnamese or Chinese restaurant? Besides Wegmans, Thai Nakorn and La Mexicana Taqueria and Bakery the Mount Vernon area seriously lacks good food. That being said, if you want Latin American food then Su Pollo is the place to eat. It's a little pricey, but good. I especially like the papas rellenos. It's like a potato knish with beef, raisins and a hard boiled egg inside. That may not sound appetizing, but it really is. I've only done carry out, so I can't say anything about the service. The take out guy is super friendly and has given me a free beverage a couple of times. Yummy horchata! All in all a nice experience.
(4)Dee P.
I love this place!!! Great food great price great staff!! There Peruvian Chicken is the best I have taste, my family at least go hear once every two weeks.
(5)Nate M.
I've been eating here for 5 years (when I'm here in the area for work). I love the chicken and fried yucca. It's a little greasy, and quite filling, but very tasty!
(4)Stephen K.
While the prices are more than Super Pollo and the food not as good, I go here when I don't feel like driving all the way to Arlington. $10+ for rice and 1/4 chicken is a bit steep in a to go container. The rice is better at Super Pollo. Chicken is comparable. Super pollo is only about $7 for the same thing but with two sides you can choose. Haven't found any Peruvian place in the area that is better than Super Pollo for food quality or price.
(3)Jenny L.
I recently tried the chaufa de pollo (rice dish with chunks of Peruvian chicken)...YUM! I cannot wait to eat this dish again.
(5)Andrea C.
Not originally from here. So I never had Peruvian chicken until I moved here. I liked it from the beginnin. But it wasn't until Su Pollo did I really fall in love. I loved everything!!! The yucca, the coleslaw, and of course the Pollo!!! Also they give the biggest chickens I've had. Love this place!!!!
(5)Jeffrey H.
Very good service. Tri-tip is good for east coast, just came from Santa Maria ca so not quite as good but still tender. The chicken is absolutely the best, stands up to any Peruvian chicken place I have ever ate at. The green spicy sauce is a must with anything you eat. The fries were good as well.
(5)Bridgette W.
Only reason this place gets two stars is because....... The White fish ceviche was the bomb!!!! The beans and rice were good also But the chicken Ugh!!! Tasted like a salt box Maryland/DC has better Peruvian chicken
(2)George W.
Fantastic food! We were heading to the area to adopt a dog and Yelp'd the area for lunch. Su Pollo stood out and it's easy to see why. Great food, great portions, quick and friendly service and reasonable prices.
(4)Amanda W.
Great Peruvian chicken. My favorite side is the fried yuca. Service is always pleasant. A nice non-chain option for lunch near Belvoir.
(5)Tori D.
If you want amazing horchata, black beans and rice, and savory charcoal chicken, you are looking at the right place. I am so glad this place is right by my house. They are affordable, authentic and delicious.
(5)Jennifer J.
Besides the chicken, everything else was too salty and heavy. We tossed half of it away.
(3)Thomas M.
Hidden gem in Alexandria. I come here about 2 times per week for lunch - this place serves the best peruvian chicken sandwich I have ever had. Employees are always friendly and the food is an awesome value. Also, the yellow and green sauces are to die for.
(5)Jeff C.
I keep waiting for the day that someplace will start serving up Peru's signature food reserved for the likes of kings and Gods, a delicacy that is said to rival the finest foods known to man, yup, I'm talking Guinea Pig; however, until that day I will have to be content with Su Pollo's charbroiled, chicken goodness. This place serves up chicken cooked to perfection, day in and day out. They serve the bird by the whole, half, or quarter here...Believe me a quarter is really enough for one person. Stop by close to dinner time and you should be prepared for a bit of a wait, as this is really the only chicken game in town. Yum, succulent and juicy all the way around. Really makes me wonder what type of job those broilers would do on a tasty guinea pig. Damn you, PETA!!!. For now, I guess I will have to be satisfied with devouring this delicious Peruvian chicken, and the yucca is quite tasty as well...but if only it were possible to try the real Peruvian delicacy. It's sad but I admit that I've found myself hanging out at Pet Smart, watching my little buddies play (I've even named one of them Oscar) and dreaming of the day that we can become a little more adventurous culinary-wise in the States. Until then, Oscar and I will enjoy munching down on some really excellent chicken-- Sorry Colonel but this is a different game altogether.-- So, if I have to be deprived of Peru's secret dish, at least I've got the next best thing right in my back yard. I'd rate this one of the best Peruvian chicken experiences in the area. The only thing that I think could top this foodie experience would be for Oscar and I to catch a plane to Peru and check out some of the more exotic food offerings the Land of the Incas has to offer. "What do you say, Oscar?" ????? "Oscar?.... Where did you go, Little Buddy?" I Guess it's a Su Pollo night after all. Well, still one of the tastiest options any foodie could ever have, so I say bring on the chicken.....(for now ;) ;)
(5)Jr M.
The food is really good but it's very over priced....... I had ordered a chaufa rice for $10 and what I ended up getting was basically 2 cup full of rice so I had to drive all the way back for my money back . If you like small portions with high prices than this is the place for you.... I rather eat somewhere else.....
(2)Sofia M.
What a deal!! Yummy chicken and sauces. Staff is friendly and you can watch them make your food. I like their tortillas and cookie/pastry with coconut. Very casual place. I call often for to go orders. Love their pollo!!
(5)Rebecca H.
Their chicken and yucca are the bomb! The salads are tiny, miniscule in fact, and very basic; however, the dressing is good. One of our friends who ate with us, asked "What is that?" When I answered it was a salad. He said "That is not a salad, that is a bite size snack." That being said the prices are such a bargain, you cannot complain much. A family of four can eat a decent meal for less than $30. The interior is no frills, basic, if you want good Peruvian chicken cooked to order, this is the place.
(4)Lisa H.
I have frequented Su Pollo many times over the last 5 years that I've worked at Fort Belvoir. The place itself looks a little sketchy to the untrained passerby, but Su Pollo doesn't need to rely on aesthetics to keep customers happy. It's all about the food and after trying several other Peruvian chicken joints in NoVA, Su Pollo is by far my favorite. My usual meal is the 1/4 chicken with a side of yuca. The chicken is always seasoned to perfection and the yuca is always hot and crisp. (NO ONE does yuca better than Su Pollo.) The salad that comes with almost every meal is nothing special, but I like to think of it as a vessel for consuming the white sauce. I always order extra white sauce to dip my yuca in - it's basically a thick ranch dressing, but it's my favorite out of all the variations I've tried elsewhere. I prefer the spicy green sauce on my chicken. The chicken and cheese sandwich is loaded with green peppers and onions and is worth the longer (when compared to the almost instant delivery of the 1/4 chicken) wait. The plantains are a perfect blend of fried crisp and sweet mush. There's also beef and fish options on the menu. Group seating is hit-or-miss. If you show up anywhere near noon, expect a line and limited seating.
(5)Shabriya H.
I love this place, their rotisserie chicken is sooooo good. I have also had their steak and black beans and both of these foods were very well seasoned. You can do carry out or dine in. Nothing fancy but the food here is excellent.
(5)Meri D.
My kids frequently ask for their Peruvian Chicken. It seems like a lot of food, but I generally end up having to order two whole chickens for my family of 4. Kids eat the chicken up quickly! I like how you can split the sides because my children are all picky and have their own ideas about sides... I end up having to cook some collard greens or some vegetable to go with it, but the food is very tasty. Would like to see it a little cleaner. I would recommend them to anyone. The food is just delicious!
(5)Steven R.
OMG, this place is absolutely fantastic. We were recommended this place by friends. It is one of those 'holes in the walls' that has just the amazing home cooked style about it. The ambience wasn't great, no frills about it at all, but it was clean. I think the staff were a little shy but they were very helpful in us making a decision on what we wanted. The chicken was so succulently mouth watering. Portions were generous. I thought I would try one of their cookies, they are to die for, talk about melt in your mouth. Can't remember their name but it was two cookies with caramel in the middle. I bought a whole bunch of them to take away. Cannot wait to go back to this place again.
(5)Pablo G.
Excellent service good and freshly cooked foods 1st time coming and i will be coming back again for more the lomo saltado and the combination chicken and steak greatttttttttttt awesome food
(5)Angela C S.
Almost like Peru...close enough for me to go back again!
(5)Kristine C.
There's a reason why this place is consistently given a high rating. The food is really, really good and fresh. The chicken is well seasoned and tender. The yellow rice is soft and fluffy. The yucca is lightly battered and not greasy. The salad is fresh. We got the one chicken meal deal and had a lot of leftovers to take home. We've been to so many similar places, but this one has become our new favorite.

12/03/2013 @ 7:48PM Just returned home after my second visit to Su Pollo. It was really good! I ordered the half chicken again but this time with just yuca, the side salad, and a Coconut soda. While I was there I noticed that only one table was occupied with customers, so I could pretty much sit any where I wanted to. The tables in the restaurant were all clean and the chairs were placed orderly beneath them. I grabbed a booth in the back by the tv. In less than 3 minutes they called my number and I walked up and picked up my food. The food was hot and tasted amazing. The portions actually seemed larger this time (lucky me!). Huge chunks of delicious chicken...yum! Be sure to use that dipping sauce they give you to dip it in...it's so good. The atmosphere was very relaxed and peaceful. I like that type of atmosphere when I'm eating dinner because I can enjoy my meal and reflect upon my day. The gentleman at the register thanked me for coming in again and also for my last review of his restaurant. I told him that the food was delicious and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It was at that minute I had a thought pop into my mind and I shared it with him. Not many people know this but in most restaurants they have a list of meals they prepare on a regular basis over and over again, but, sometimes if you are daring, you can make a special request of the kitchen and ask them to prepare you something not on the menu: I'll refer to this concept as "Chef's Choice". And that's where you basically say "hey, I'd like for you to make me something that's not on the menu but just so happens to be your favorite food/meal". Well, I suggested to him that it might be really cool if he could think of any meals he and his family shared together growing up that were really good but not offered or advertised on the current menu...he could offer that meal as a "special" and maybe share with us some of the culture or meaning behind the dish. I think that would be cool. Just a thought... I know some Americans are turned off by too much spice, not me though...I love spices and that's one of the reasons I enjoy trying so many ethnic restaurants...not only for the experience of learning about other amazing cultures in the world but, also to taste the food as they enjoy it in their homeland. Well, until next time... :-)
(4)Tom M.
Peruvian chicken is pretty simple... Is the chicken juicy? Is the skin crispy? Su Pollo answers those questions with a resounding yes. Excellent skin, excellent juiciness to the chicken and great sides. I'm rarely in this area, but when I am, this is the only place I'll eat. The desserts are great too.
(5)Angelita D.
I always send my husband here to pick up a whole chicken to bring home. The flavors are out of this world!! Very affordable and my extremely picky eaters love it!
(4)Bregy G.
So good!! I don't know much about Peru but they have some delicious chicken. The rice is good too even though it's yellow, how do you make yellow rice?
(5)Cortexiphan Z.
Their chicken is on of the most tastiest in all of Fairfax Co, Alexandria and Arlington. Price is reasonable. At times I notice their chicken can be a bit on the saltier side, but that's not big deal. I wish the chicken pieces were bigger.
(4)Vernon M.
this place is awesome. they ooh your food fresh every time you order, your food is cooked in a decent amount of time. the orders don't get mixed with others and the pricing is really good for what you get. i only wis they gave a 2nd container of the white sauce because i always run out. the green sauce is pretty hot and adds an interesting kick to the meal your eating. the place is always busy but not slammed and the wait isn't long at all.
(5)Rich G.
You can smell the goodness before you even step foot in the door. The chicken is why you go, and the darker green spicy/cilantro sauce they give you on the side makes me want to get it for home too. The salads are basic and small, but the chicken is truly amazing. Best chicken in the area.
(5)Ingrid W.
Tried this place again due to a friend's urging. The rice and black beans were excellent. The chicken was flavorful but a tad bit dry.
(4)Autem C.
I love this restaurant, so much so that I drive from the Hampton roads area to Arlington at least once per month. My faves: the chicken with rice, fries or plantains. Also, the grilled steak is amazing. And don't forget the Inca Kola. My curiosity to eat here was piqued this fall when I was visiting the area. I wondered if this was the style of chicken that made 'Gus' , the epic drug kingpin and resident villain on Breaking Bad, rich and famous. Quite a fantastic reason that I'll always be grateful for! For the record, you cannot eat this food without the super awesome überyummy goodness that is the green and white sauce. I have googled how to cook this stuff and have a rotisserie at home, but I'm going to stick with the experts and continue to have an excuse for a road trip. Definitely check it out and enjoy it all! #nomnomnom
(5)Darren S.
Great location close by Mount Vernon. Looks questionable from the outside but the food was excellent. First time having beef heart strips and it was seasoned fabulously. The rest if the family all enjoyed their choices. Only drawback was the filthy, partially out of order restroom. Yuck!
(4)Chris S.
Best. Yucca. Ever. That being said, they really do. I love me some pollo negro, charcoal chicken, pollo ala brasa, etc.I usually eat it once a week and yucca is always the side of choice. So when I say Su Pollo has the best yucca, they do! Everyone else has really hard or dried out stuff. Here, the inside is soft and the outside is nice and crisp! The chicken is always juicy and fresh as well. Even the side salad is great. The dressing isn't the standard white sauce most places use as a substitute, they make a totally separate sauce with a great flavor. I have had better white and green sauces, but these are still really good. Service is good, not great. Same with the building decor. But hey, I came for the chicken and the yucca, not to get wined and dined by the staff. Trust me, if you haven't liked yucca in the past, try Su Pollo's, and you'll change your mind!
(5)Ravileen S.
If I could give Su Pollo all the stars in yelp, I would. The chicken, yuca, sauce, rice, salad, Lomo Saltado (pretty much anything) on the menu is AMAZING. I can't vouch enough for this place. I've eaten at my share of pollo-a-la-brasa joints, probably 10-15 other places in the DMV, but ALL pale in comparison. The service here is always friendly and the ambiance is as authentic as it gets. No other place hits the all the nails on the marks like Su Pollo does. If you disagree, great! Please stay at your current choice of pollo place, and keep the lines short for the rest of us with tastebuds.

I was supposed to make chicken for a birthday dinner party that I was having at my house. Unfortunately, all of the school work that I have for the MBA did not allow me to do a lick of preparation. So, I had the brilliant idea (if I do say so myself) to get some Peruvian chicken. I haven't had it in years, so I jumped on Yelp to see what the best in my area is and Su Pollo popped up. I called ahead and ordered two whole chickens with sides of plantains and salad, thinking that I was going to save some time. So, I rolled in expecting to be able to pick up my chicken straight away. That was not so. I had to wait about 10 minutes for my food. The good news is I spied a meal that I plan to get the next time I don't feel like cooking and want some cheap, deliciousness. Someone eating in the restaurant walked past me with some unknown beef dish and I literally almost followed him to his table to ask what it was. I thought that might be a little on the weird side, so I fought the urge. My powers of deduction- thanks to the pictures on the site- lead me to believe it is Lomo Saltado. That is happening. Oh, yes, it will be mine. Driving the chicken home was torture because I was starving. I thought about rolling the window down to reduce my h-anger (hunger+anger), but I didn't want it to get cold. Got home to discover that the chicken was still piping hot and already cut up! Wonderful. The green sauce was fantastic. And, the plantains were as good as any other that I've had. Next time, I'll skip the salad. It was very boring with old looking shredded iceberg lettuce with some shredded carrots tossed in there. I think I'll go for the yucca next time. I got a ton of food and paid $32. Not as cheap as I expected, but it really did feed the four of us (with leftovers to spare). The chicken was juicy and well seasoned. The skin, even though it wasn't crisp was still a joy to eat. I'm definitely a happy customer!
(3)Paul T.
Made it out here finally. The chicken was decent. Was not amazing but decent. I have many too many other pollo places in the area. and there are several that have better sabor than this spot. The fries were really good tho. The yellow sauce was decent also. This review is all positive though. nothing negative. Price is decent also.
(3)Ali F.
I've been a su pollo customer for about year now and have never been a little disappointed with this place. The staff is always friendly and the food is sooo good!
(5)Dan O.
The chicken was very tender. Good serving sizes. Became crowded at six PM on Friday. The yuca was very good as well. Friendly staff.
(4)Cathy C.
The place is a little old, a little dingy in the inside, and there aren't any waiters to serve your food, but seriously, the place really knows its Peruvian charcoal chicken. Basically, you order from the menu posted above the counter up front, wait for your number to be called, and take your food to the table. If you're there for dinner around 6:30-7:30pm, I suggest you grab your table first & have someone else place your order, since we found it gets pretty busy during the peak dinner times. The chicken is roasted in a large spitfire / charcoal rotisserie, so you might have to wait a little, depending on what you ordered. We ordered the full chicken dinner (with 1 side), so we waited about 30 min. before we received our food. It also comes with 2 small side salads and 2 different types of dipping sauce. The white sauce is mayo-based and the green is a spicy salsa verde, which pairs well with the chicken. The chicken itself is delicious and juicy, with a subtle taste of charcoal. They serve plastic silverware, but the food is so tender, you can slice right through without breaking them. Really good chicken. A lot of people order to-go, so be prepared to wait a little during the busy dinner hour.
(4)Dylan H.
I can't even begin to understand how they make the chicken so good... it's insane. I always get a half chicken with Yuka and rice. Everything about it is 100% perfection, especially the yuka. My one complaint is that they never give me enough green sauce, but that's more than okay.
(5)Sharein C.
We got the family meal and everything was great.
(5)Ashby C.
I almost don't want to review so I can keep this place a secret! Absolutely love the charcoal chicken and fried yuca! Great prices and friendly staff.
(5)Maria L.
Love this place! Ok, so the restaurant atmosphere is not the best, but the food and people are fantastic! Love the chicken of course, but the other stuff I've tried are all good. The sides yuca fries, plantain, yellow rice and the white and green sauce are also very good. The tri-tip and the lomos saltados are also tender and seasoned very well. The tiramisu and the alfahores (sp?) are so good!
(5)Bill D.
Yummy food in a dive restaurant. Don't be scared by the exterior - the chicken is very good so don't be afraid to go in. The place is clean (enough) but I wouldn't go in my Sunday best or on a date. If they served liquor it'd be the neighborhood dive bar. Get the visual? Had the 1/4 chicken it was really moist and the green (verde) sauce was amazing. It was a little spicy and very flavorful. It comes in a little container and I ran out. Next time I'll get two of them. The fried plantains was a huge portion and perfectly prepared. They were lightly fried that had a very thin crust, not greasy. Cooked so they inside was soft and warm.

Woohoo! This place IS as good as it gets! We have tried numerous Peruvian Chicken places throughout Northern Virginia and all have been very good but Su Pollo, in our humble opinion, is the best. The Yuca is DELICIOUS and FRESH. We have hit some local charcoal chicken joints that had pretty great chicken and the Yuca was either undercooked or dry. Su Pollo's Yuca is fresh, hot and melts in your mouth. The chicken? OFF THE HOOK. The skin is crispy with a ton of seasoning and the meat is juicy and incredibly flavorful. We both ordered a half chicken because we have ordered 1/4 chicken at other places only to discover that there just wasn't enough meat. Not so at Su Pollo. These chickens have some serious meat on the bones and if you are ordering some sides, you could easily split the half for an inexpensive date night. We noticed that they have an affordable tri-tip platter on the menu and plan on trying that on our next visit. Very happy to have the new road open between Telegraph and Rt. 1! Only a 5 minute drive now to get our Su Pollo fix.
(5)Anum H.
O.M.G. This place is to die for! I have never had chicken, rice, and beans as amazing as this! Best hole in the wall in Northern Virginia!!
(5)Robby D.
Very very good. Would suggest. Chicken is hot and fresh. My kids love the place as we'll think they are just as much as I did. I defiantly will return for more great charcoal Chicken. Getting hungry just thinking about it.
(5)Jennifer G.
Great place! Haven't tried everything on the menu but the Chicken and Ceviche was GREAT - just like in Peru!
(4)Alfonso G.
every good food today thank you

The best Peruvian Chicken ever!!! Do I need to say more? Sure, it is very affordable. =)
(5)Josie H.
Chicken taste fresh and well seasoned. The staff is friendly and quick. Called and was told my order would be ready for pick up in 15 mins. They also have sit in place that is a nice layout and has flat scree.n tv to watch soorts. Overall place is worth driving to
(5)Collin S.
Love it. I was taken here by some co-workers from Fort Belvoir a few weeks back on a Friday and I've gone here for lunch on Fridays every week thereafter (excluding this past Friday but I went yesterday instead). Great prices and good portions of food, the chicken tastes phenomenal, and the sides are delicious as well. Great service, no frills quick restaurant that you should definitely try if you're into this kind of food. Yuca is delicious as well, and cooked perfectly. Quality is certainly their strong suit!
(5)C.W. O.
Tri tip was very good, chicken less so. Had a strange flavor but was moist. Salad is a joke. Beans and rice decent. Plastic forks bend while trying to eat the chicken - annoying. Place is a bit rundown and dirty - could use a bit of elbow grease and paint.
(2)bruce m.
Authentic, delicious, and a great bargain! Stop wasting your time with posers and taste the genuine article.
(5)Roberta P.
Love their Lomo Saltado...not to mention their Yuca, oh and their Chicken, and thei sauces, and their sevice, one of my favourites.........oh and don't be put off by the lackluster decor, I think it adds to the ambience.
(5)Mark A.
1/4 rotisserie here and ever time its cooked perfectly and the flavors are bold and delicious. The rice and beans also add great flavor. The dipping sauces seal the deal and add the pop. The iceberg salad isn't really necessary as its iceberg lettuce with zero taste. Even so, it's 5 star for me. But for Peruvian chicken, this place is tops. The price is reasonable, service is pleasant and overall can't miss lunch/dinner stop.
(5)Lauren M.
I can't believe this place has been less than 2 miles from me for the past 8 years, and I just recently discovered it! I have only ever ordered the family combo ($25), which is a whole chicken, 4 salads, 4 sides, a 2L soda, and a bunch of sauces. It's enough to feed 4-6 people easily, and is the best Peruvian chicken in the area, by far! The interior and exterior are both simple and minimalistic, but don't let that fool you...
(5)John W.
So stunningly good! Having lived in Alexandria for many of a year, I've driven by this restaurant many many many times without stopping thinking it couldn't be anything special. We finally stopped in a few weeks ago and grabbed a 1/2 chicken combo to go... plenty of food for two people (our side was yuca, which was amazing) and the sauces on the side really set off the flavor. We've tried many other entrees (fried fish and tri tip are both excellent dishes) and have been exceedingly pleased. Pleasant atmosphere and the staff is friendly. Order at the counter and take it to go and watch soccer while you wait (or dine in, it's a nice place to eat). We're hooked.
(5)Brian C.
Have eaten here twice when I travel to the DC area. Awesome chicken and fries! Great smokey flavor and super tender and juicy! Be sure to get some extra green sauce, good with the chicken and fries! Not much in the way of atmosphere but wow is the food good! Cheap too! Can't go wrong with Su Pollo!
(5)Cara D.
Sooo good (Ono for all my Hawaii brethren). The chicken is tasty, yucca is hot and fluffy and the tritip is delicious. Prices are reasonable, what more could you want! Gonna miss it when I leave.
(5)Sandra M.
You Will NOT Be Disappointed! I have tried many "pollo a la brasa" establishments, such as the infamous "El Pollo Rico" and "Ed's Chicken and Steak" who sell in high volumes but can lack in quality. There are many other chicken places on Rt. 1 too but they are not as good. The chicken here is succulent- crispy skin, moist and flavorful meat! Perhaps what I love, love most about this place is their "aji" or salsa verde. This sauce is the perfect companion for your chicken, yucca, fries.... Hell I even bought a container to take home and put it on pizza. It is just that serious!!! Most Peruvian chicken places I have been to typically serve a watery, dark green and what appears to be puréed jalapeños that people think is good. They also offer other Peruvian dishes like lomo saltado and ceviche although I must admit I never tried them.
(5)Greg M.
Still loving this place - if the Yelp Sith Elite Master of me wouldn't fire me up so bad I'd give this place 4 stars...you know what, this is my review. 4 stars. I love this place. The bird was hot and steaming this time, the yucca perfect, and I tried the beans this time which were very good. Try the Inca Cola - very interesting taste.
(4)annie w.
Wonderful chicken. This place smelled so good when I walked in, I nearly mugged some woman who was leaving with her order. I ordered a half chicken with the intention of saving some for lunch tomorrow, but I only have a tiny bit left. The skin was crispy and charcoal-y, with a hint of spice that I couldn't pin down (Peruvian chicken newbie). The man who took my order was very nice and explained my options for sides. I got the yucca. I have never had it before, and I really loved it. Kind of like steak fries. I do think I will eat in next time, though. I think the yucca would be even better fresh out of the frier. Like others have said, the white sauce is very tasty. I have no idea what I was supposed to do with it, but I used it to dip my yucca and my chicken. I don't think this is a place where you can just pop in and out. I waited about 10 minutes, and there was a bit of a dinner rush coming in behind me, so they do a good dinner business. I saw everyone from enlisted folks (this is just a few miles from Ft. Belvoir), singles, families, etc. Very diverse group of people. This will become one of my regular places, I can just feel it.
(4)Maryann W.
Greeaat rotisserie chix. Rice and beans are best side and fries are hearty too. Salad is simple but good to get some veggies. Not a fancy place but can do sit down or takeout. Very friendly and auick.
(5)Hugh A.
The chicken at Su Pollo is crazy good. First visit today. I got a whole chicken with rice to go. The meat was really flavorful and moist - even after I heated it up later. I love the green sauce. They have other interesting items on the menu. Can't wait to try them. I've said this in previous reviews, but I'm loving the food choices on Route 1. You don't have to look hard beyond the chains and fast food to find some really good restaurants. Su Pollo makes the trip to Arlington for good Peruvian chicken totally unnecessary.
(4)Amanda L.
Yum Yum Yum!
(4)John K.
Hands down on the best chicken! So perfect from crispy & well seasoned skin to moist, tender,& juicy meat. The yucas were unbelievable! Made me feel like I've never tried yucas before, so hot and perfectly crispy and unbelievably fluffy inside. One thing that I preferred from somewhere like "chicken pollo" is their rice, here their rice is okay but everything else is over expected. The exterior of this location is deceiving and parking is difficult sometimes but if you're ever in the area for good chicken, don't look any further, I tried it out solely through their # of reviews and level of rating!
(4)Marilynn L.
Absolutely delicious! & the staff is friendly!
(5)Adan R.
Yuca fries, Peruvian Chicken, and other Hispanic oriented grilled food. Under ten bucks. It would be a five if they had a refill soda machine, that is all.
(4)T B.
I absolutely love the chicken here and their fried rice is one of a kind! I've been to many places and hands down this is one of my favorite places. The staff here are so nice as well and very polite.
(5)Charlotte B.
Pros: Moist chicken Awesome Yucca, and white/green sauce Cons: Chicken tasted like Boston Market chicken, and was incredibly greasy Side salad not worth mentioning Location, location, location - incredibly difficult to get in and out of on a day with traffic, so almost always Small tables / cramped seating arrangements Inside looks run down This is definitely not the place to go if you are worried about ambiance. The outside is poorly lit. The inside is dim and loud. Clientele seem to have a different attitude than what I typically consider the "norm". Restaurant is family friendly, and it shows - my experience is loud children with parents who seem oblivious to the nuisance or just don't care. Food failed to impress. I always look for the "wow" factor in a restaurant (otherwise, what's the point of going out and spending money, when I can do better and be guaranteed that I am getting something I like?). A side dish should never be more enjoyable than the main meal, especially not when it is Yucca / fries. The chicken was greasy and stringy. The skin wasn't crisp, but was instead squishy and slid off when picking up the meat. The Yucca on the other hand was fresh, crisp, and tasted awesome. Getting to the restaurant is a pain in the butt. You have to cut across two to three lanes of traffic to pull in, and getting out requires either waiting for the nearby intersection to clear out, or bullying your way into traffic. I would not go out of my way to visit again. I was not impressed, and walked out wishing I had taken my business elsewhere.

Fantastic Chicken & great prices.

Oh my God, the best chicken EVER! Moist, perfectly grilled, perfectly seasoned, crispy, delicious skin...I could go on and on. This was the first Peruvian chicken place we ever tried, and it was *so* good and so convenient for our family of 5. We've been going here for probably 6 or 7 years now. We used to be able to get by ordering just one chicken, plus fries & salad, but as the kids got older and started eating more, we increased it to one and a half chickens; now that they're teenagers and totally insatiable, we're up to 2 whole chickens for the 5 of us (with some leftovers. Sometimes.) Believe me, we've now tried many other "pollo a la brasa"-type places, and none are as good as Su Pollo. We don't even live close anymore, but we still make the trip, just for their chicken. The fries are pretty good, too, and we LOVE the green sauce. On everything. My husband adores the tamales...I'm not a fan in general of tamales, but these are super tender...and hard to come by. They will actually have them maybe every other time we go...go early if you like tamales. The filling is shredded chicken, pork, a hard-boiled egg, and olives. The decor could certainly use a facelift, but we're not there for the ambiance. (Also, don't ask Siri for directions to Su Pollo. You will get results for "soup oil," "super polo," and many other garbled attempts....it's easy to find, anyway!)
(5)Nazgul W.
This place is excellent. It was one of the more memorable food experiences on our trip out east and for good reason. The chicken is super tasty, great texture on the outside and juicy. The green sauce is fantastic with grilled chicken like this, and it's also great with the fries or yuca. I'd previously only had this kind of green spice with gyros, but it's a superb compliment to the chicken. I got the fries, but when I tasted the fried yuca, I preferred that: it's awesome. Su Pollo does things very simply but very well. The food comes out extremely quickly and it's reasonably priced. Go there now!
(4)Melissa L.
Read the reviews and went in for the yucca, but loved ALL of it. If I lived anywhere near Alexandria I'd be at Su Pollo at least once a week.
(5)Chris M.
The BEST in Peruvian chicken and very affordable. Try the chicken and cheese sandwich !
(5)Michael C.
For the price which I'm basing on half chicken meal, with rice fries or yucca, and a small salad at around $8.50, this absolutely crushes the competition. When you compare this to the typical 'value meal' at a McDonald's or similar, it isn't even close. At Su Pollo, you get something that actually resembles real food like a real chicken, healthy rice or yucca or non-greasy fries, and salad. Their aji verde green sauce is fantastic. My only complaint is that it isn't open 24 hours. Probably the best chicken on the entire Route 1 Highway - and I'm not kidding!
(5)Dave B.
The chicken is phenomenal. The prices are reasonable and the servings are plentiful. But the beat part may be the service. Very friendly and helpful with choosing dishes.
(5)Michella S.
chicken is always moist. the rice is delicious!
(4)Jennifer V.
Love this place! Chicken is juicy and the yucca is perfectly cooked, and the portions are very generous. I love the green sauce that comes with the food (although be warned, the green sauce is slightly spicy). Best part: it's all at a very reasonable price. The staff is also super friendly! There is a booth though that has a broken seat, so watch out for that! Otherwise if you have never been inundated to Peruvian chicken, try this place!
(5)BJ L.
Decent chicken. Their green sauce is nice and spicy, best I have had, hence the 3 stars.
(3)Susan S.
It's Peruvian CHARCOAL chicken. I came for the chicken but they have steak and terrific sides. More like restaurant quality food rather than the typical Peruvian chicken joints. Worth the drive. Just try not to over eat. What the heck take some Zantac with you.
(5)vanessa g.
You don't need to look anywhere else for excellent Peruvian pollo a la brasa. This place has perfect rotisserie chicken in just about any portion you want; you can even get a whole chicken if you felt like it. Their sides should be explored too. Their yucca is golden fried and piping hot & 1 serving is enough for 2 to share. I am in love with the black beans, with just enough of that 'bean' juice dripping from it. Their yellow rice goes nicely with the chicken and their plantains are a sweet offset to the savoriness of it all. It can be a bit of a wait, but its totally worth it & the staff are pretty helpful too. Be sure to come in with an empty stomach because you will need plenty of room to store all that yumminess!
(5)David S.
I agree with all the commenters below. Food is great, staff is beyond friendly and atmosphere is (unfortunately) that of a fast food restaurant. Only thing I would add is that they do NOT serve alcohol here, but they will allow you to bring your own beer or wine. You will have to drink out of a styrofoam cup, but hey, the price is right...and the food really is delicious.
(4)James N.
This is probably my number one choice for Peruvian chicken in the DC area. The chicken is juicy on the inside and the skin is crispy on the outside. The yuca is nice and crispy, and the sauces are flavorful and creamy. I only wish they had fresh chicha instead of the bottled chicha.
(5)Dave Y.
This is a warning to all: Su Pollo must put crack in their food as I can't get enough of the 1/4 chicken plate. I order no salad double rice, shed the chicken and pour the green and white sauce over the whole thing. I could eat that once a week. Oh wait, I do :)
(5)Ed L.
Great chicken. The great sauce set it off nicely. The tamale was super. Tremendous value go there and enjoy a very casual bite. Even the Inca Kola was good as a side drink.
(5)Bill P.
I picked up a takeout meal here on the way to a meeting in the area. I chose the 1/4 chicken meal because I wanted to eat light. The dinner included fried yucca and a green salad. The chicken was perfectly cooked and juicy. I don't think I've had yucca before. It was good; somewhat similar to french fries but fatter and fluffier. The salad was small and reasonable but not exciting. The green sauce provided a bit of kick with the chicken. The sauce was spicy but not excessively so. The restaurant is unassuming from the outside but very clean and well kept inside. You order at the counter and pick up food when it's ready at another counter. Tables and booths are available. The biggest drawback that I found was that the restaurant was hard to get to. You almost have to be traveling north on Richmond Highway to enter the parking lot and on departing have to head north on the highway. Nevertheless, I found the food good and will likely return when in the area and would recommend it to others.
(4)July K.
My first time trying Peruvian food. The roast chicken and rice was delicious. The green sauce really added some kick as well.
(4)Mama P.
Love me some chicken. Yummy for my tummy. Oh, don't forget to get the pollo soup and ceviche mixto:)
(4)Dana Z.
I have to be honest and say whenever I try a Peruvian chicken place I rate it in my head comparing it to a certain popular Peruvian chicken in Arlington which shall remain nameless. That being said, this is an excellent closer alternative. The chicken is delicious and I actually really love their fries. I don't get the side salad they offer with the meal. Seriously it's pitiful and they would do better without it. The service was really good and friendly. It's a shame it doesn't seem like a lot of people know about this place because it really is good
(3)Samuel B.
Chicken is good. The chicken salad is very good. Yucca varies. Often it is not cooked long enough.
(3)Melissa S.
We were in town visiting our friends on Ft. Belvoir. We had driven up from augusta ga that morning and were starving when we arrived. We drove past Su Pollo getting to our friends residence, and man the smell was awesome. As soon as we said a quick hello and unpacked the kids essentials the two hubbys went out to Su Pollo for some take out. OMG The chicken was tender, Hot, fresh, and juicy, The plantains were soooooo good. And what a treat the civeche turned out to be. I make a mean one myself, and this one was worth paying for! I have to admit no one but me liked the weird hominy corn, but i ate it no problem. I wish we lived closer so I could eat this food often! And our friends had never tried it before, but said they were going to be regular customers!
(5)Cornell H.
Its hard to give 5 stars to anyone but I always get the same thing here...chicken and rice extra green sauce side salad mmmmm his the spot perfectly best chicken on the highway.
(5)Jason M.
I passed this place every single day for 5 years....Big Mistake. I came here tonight and had the best meal I've had in a long time. The chicken is really juicy, the beans and rice are full of flavor and my favorite was the Lomo Saltado! I used to joke and say this place was a front for the mob because it was always open but no cars in the parking lot....my mistake. Very clean inside, the kitchen is also clean (big deal in a state with no restaurant grades). I will return soon!
(5)Erik D.
Three words describe. Yum, Yum, Yum. One of the better chicken shops I have found in the sea of available chicken shops. Chicken is always hot and juicy. Spiced well. Yucca had been soggy a couple times. Watch out for the green sauce. It's spicy delicious.
(4)Sarah P.
Today I had the 1/4 Peruvian Chicken with all the fixings! The fixings...someone please tell me what the white and green sauces are. The green certainly had a bite to it, the white...Ranch dressing? I mixed up the chicken with salad and dressing and it was AHHHMAAZING! I agree with Dana, the fries are pretty good. Had I ate it all I would be in food coma right now. Slipped some scraps to the dog, hope he doesn't think this will be an everyday occurence!
(4)David B.
yes! This is what good Peruvian chicken tastes like! everything I've had here was delicious - the only let down so far was the jalea - obviously frozen shrimp, but it's called 'su pollo' not 'su jalea'. come in for the chicken, sandwiches, and antecuchos. the soup (aguadito) is tasty. the yucca is fresh! they boil and fry it while you watch. they have the white sauce and green sauce down to a science - PERFECT =) kinda far, but worth the drive
(5)Stacie T.
I love this place. The food is excellent and the price is just right. The employees there are very friendly and the owner is great. I usually get the quarter chicken white meat for lunch. I call in my order and it is always ready by the time I get there. (I work right across the street) The only thing I wish was different is I wish they would do something with the front where you place your orders. Its too plain looking. Maybe add some chairs so people can take a seat when they are waiting for their orders.
(4)Sarah G.
Went with some coworkers...this wasn't my first choice and more then one of us paid the price. I ended up in the Emergency Room that evening with very bad food poisoning. I recommend you stay away!
(1)Teddy B.
One of the juiciest and tenderest pollo a la brasa I had in the DC area so far. Fries were perfectly brown and crispy. No complaints at all about the rice either. Even my Peruvian girlfriend said she endorses this joint.
(5)Mark A.
Very tasty chicken! Great sauce and a good price. Worth the trip for lunch or dinner.
(4)Xavier C.
Service is great, but the food is even better!
(5)Don S.
Food was great and price was right! Yuca and plantains with 1/2 chicken is enough for two and it came with a small salad as well. Sauces were very flavorful - the green with quite a bit of heat. We'd definitely go there again.
(4)Amir D.
Savory chicken, beef, rice, salad, and yuccas! Will be back!
(5)Aja C.
Very good chicken, we eat here all the time. Beans and rice are great too!
(4)Scott S.
Chicken was excellent but the yuca was just ok. I will go with the rice next time.
(4)R D.
This chicken was amazing!! Just so tender and delicious, crispy on the outside, and juicy in. The side dishes we had were the rice, black beans and plantains, with the corn tortillas. All good except the tortillas...didn't much care for the tortillas, they were fat and mealy, but the Chicken other stuff MORE than made up for it!! You have to try this place....
(4)ben a.
1/4 Rotisserie chicken over charcoal cooked in plain sight. Green sauce is awesome. Yucca great Just needs a liitle cantina bar! Low key.
(5)Seamus O.
So many "pollo" joints on the route 1 corridor that suck I only stand by a few in Arlington, Arlandria, etc. until I discovered this gem around the corner from my parents house... Not only is the food amazing, always fresh, the service is incredible and the inside is clean. No longer must I venture out towards REI for good chicken, it is here. Makes my parents happy because I tend to go down and see them more often after I get some deliciousness.
(5)Jeremiah F.
Wow. Iv driven by this place many times and the smell coming from it is to die for. Last night was my first time eating there with my family. We had the whole chicken and fries and a salad. I think this is the best chicken iv had in a long time. I think this is my new favorite place. Dipping sauces were great too.
(5)Andy G.
This has become my favorite Pollo joint in the area. The service size is great, the Yucca plentiful, and the chicken juicy.
(5)So S.
after honestly searching for a good restaurant that serves chicken. this place is the best . Love it and its always fresh and tender.
(5)Kay E.
Have visited Su Pollo several times in the distant past. Went there Sunday evening and I was not disappointed. I had the 1/4 chicken dinner with fried yucca. the chicken skin was so good I gobbled it up. My mate had the loma saltado; sliced beef with tomatoes and peppers in a creamy gravy; very tasty. Sunday evenings are very crowded but we still were able to find a booth and were served fairly quickly. There were a lot of takeouts. Place is very popular with Peruvians. Certainly not a glamorous spot but great for a good meal.
(5)Sam S.
I've had the Peruvian style rotisserie at every outlet from the beltway to Ft. Belvoir on Richmond Highway. This is the place. They use genuine hardwood charcoal (the bags are stacked up behind the counter, unless they're there for looks). Their mayo dip is tops and the fried yuca is pretty good, too. The chicken is juicy, generously seasoned and, most important of all, is always steaming hot when served. Too many places offer up lukewarm bird-- not this place. I've also had the tri-tips here and they rate an "ok". Come for the chicken. You will be back.
(5)Jim H.
The chicken was well flavored but way overcooked and dry. They happily replaced it, but the replacement was not much better. The yellow rice was excellent. I would have rated it one star, but the Tres Leche was excellent.
(2)N R.
LOVE, LOVE, LOVE to get take-out from here!!!!! Best food on Rte. 1. Very close to Fort Belvoir. It's real, fresh and amazing. Go for the family dinner of the Chicken, salad and rice and beans. LOVE, the ranch/horseradish salad dressing, but the green sauce is skull-n-crossbones spicy! I have never tried any other menu items, and I do not feel like I am missing anything as the Chicken is SOOOOOO delicious that you'll be dreaming about it till you get it again. Not fancy at all, great place to catch a soccer game and pretty darn clean for a Rte. 1 joint. Five stars for the food, but VERY casual. Try it.
(5)Monk E. R.
You will smell this place blocks before you arrive. Billows of woodsy charcoal smoke rise from Su Pollo. Gives me an appetite just thinking about it. This place just smells like a summer barbecue. Inside, the place is spotless. A half dozen booths and a couple tables, but this place does mostly takeout. Industrial size rotisserie loaded with whole chickens roast slowly over wood charcoal. The meat is moist and flavorful with the salty/citrusy kick you expect from Peruvian chicken. Chicken's their mainstay (available in quarters, halves, or wholes), but they also do chicharron, tamales, tri-tip (difficult to find around here), as well as anticuchos (spicy beef heart skewers). The fries are solid: crispy and fried hard, but I usually opt for the fried yucca. There's even burgers and ceviche, but why get marinated fish at a place with a big chicken on the roof? And who gets burgers at a Peruvian chicken joint? Come here for the Peruvian chicken, leave satisfied.
