Rice & Spice Thai Cuisine Menu

Sorry, We are updating this restaurant menu details.

This is fairly close to our home - we go there fairly frequently when we're in the mood for Thai. One of the better ones in the NoVA region. We tend to order off of the "Specialty" section of their menu which seems a bit less Americanized. Their Sizzling Beef and breaded+fried fish with mango is very good. Their Pad Thai is good, and their appetizer curry puffs and spring rolls are very good. They also do a good job with takeout. The restaurant is clean, but pretty small. We treat it more as a family place than a husband+wife date place.

If you want pad ke mao (drunken noodles) you have to try Rice & Spice's. It is the best I've tasted, especially if you get it Thai spicy. Supposedly, Thai people eat this dish when they have a hangover. The spiciness help relieve the nauseous feeling maybe? I definitely will give it a try the next time I have a hangover! Oh...I don't recommend the tom yum soup or any of the other soups. It did not taste like they put enough seasoning/spices, therefore, minus the one star.

Below average Thai! Very disappointing KeeMow (Drunken Noodles) - very few herbs and vegetables (2 pieces of tomato, 6 strips of bell pepper, 4 pieces of basil, no onion, celery, carrot like other places) and the noodles were one big, stuck together, overcooked glop! There is much better to be had in the area. Save you money and make the drive to Dale City for Thai Orchid!

Only okay. This was our go to Thai place for awhile after TK's Thai shut down but we've found a better place now - Asian Spice on Telegraph Rd. So glad we did. :) We haven't ever eaten in the restaurant, only delivery.

I have never eaten in here, but I have ordered both for delivery and for take-out. Since I haven't eaten in, I can't judge the service and therefore can't give a five star. All the food I've had, though, has been on par with the best Thai in the area. The crispy fried basil duck is outstanding, and I've really enjoyed their green curry as well. After three months living nearby, this is our go-to Thai place in the greater Kingstowne area. Yum!

So me and my parents came here on a recommendation. It's in a strip mall with a decent Pho restaurant I've occasionally been to at the other end. The restaurant itself is decorated in a typical Thai fashion, blue/purple wall paint and asian-inspired fixtures. There's a limited amount of seating, and a very tiny bar area. When we went, it was freezing inside; perhaps I was sitting under the air vent or something. The service needs some improvement. We were sitting for quite a while before even being acknowledged, much less have our order taken. Our server had shaky English, so the obvious language barrier arose to some extent. I have only had the chicken Pad Thai at this place. It arrived on a huge plate and the first thing I noticed was that there was no lemon or lime wedge. Chicken was abundant, as were the various other ingredients. That was a plus. However, after a few minutes of eating, the dish became a little too tangy for my taste. I realized that's probably the reason why they didn't even bother to include a lemon wedge with the dish. I've had Pad Thai at countless other restaurants, and this one was by far the most tangy. Cut back on the tamarind! I probably wouldn't come back, as there are much better options, such as Pasara in Kingstowne or Duangrat's in Falls Church, though they are admittedly more upscale destinations. If I were to come back, it would certainly be for a quick take-out meal.

We've been looking for a good Thai place in the DC Metropolitan area and after a few tries we've found the best one around. Don't let the location tucked away in Landsdowne Center fool you. Step inside and you'll find a cozy restaurant with a welcoming host, good service, and superb cuisine. I'm vegan and usually order their Pineapple Fried Rice without shrimp, egg, or fish sauce. It's SO GOOD. It arrives hot with rice cooked perfectly and fresh chunks of pineapple. The portion is big so as long as I have some self control I can save the rest for lunch the next day. Everything - from the veggies to the rice, taste fresh and well-seasoned. This is the place to go if you want some excellent Thai food. Dining in or carrying out are both great experiences at Rice & Spice.

Pad Thai and Pad See Eaw are exceptional. Authentic Thai cuisine. Good prices, good quantity, great staff.

Love this place. We fell in love with Thai food when we lived in Germany (weird I know). I had their yellow curry and loved it!!! been craving it since we were there 2 days ago. An added bonus was they are not expensive!!!

The restaurant itself is a cute little spot inside the Landsdowne towne center. The food is just...average Thai food. I might be biased because I already have my absolute favorite Thai spot but this place is literally right behind my house so I order from here occasionally. The staff are always friendly and food orders are ready fairly quickly. I ordered the Sukothai noodle soup thinking it would be spicier but maybe I should have specified? It was tasty and tangy but just wasn't comparable to other thai noodle soups that I've had. The green curry wasn't as spicy as I had hope it would be and wasn't creamy. The curry and oil were separating in the sauce meaning there was just a lot of oil in the curry. It was just okay green curry nothing to rave about. Wish I could give this place more stars because the ladies are so sweet but for a Thai snobbie like myself it just didn't do it for me!

One of the best Thai restaurants in the DMV and I'm so glad it's located close to work. I exit those Ft Belvoir gates and I know I'm in for a delectable treat. The Panang Curry is delish. Today, I had the lo mein kee mow and I think I was moaning as I ate. The pad thai dish is divine. And now that I think about it, I don't believe I've had a horrible dish yet. Service is great, the waiters and waitresses collectively check in with you throughout your meal. A small restaurant, yet it stays busy. Don't miss out on this spot! Enjoy!

Yellow curry and crispy basil duck were delicious. The curry had tomatoes which I had never seen but it was good. The pineapple fried rice was good fried rice but only 4 pieces of pineapple! And it had shrimp which tasted not very fresh. I'd order delivery again from them, but not the pineapple fried rice.

Amazing food and amazing service. I had the Tso Shrimp Lomein. The noodles were perfectly cooked and the sauce was flavorful and unique. A perfectly fresh dish. I highly recommend this to everyone who loves good quality food!

We got the Tofu Green Curry & Beef Pad Thai. The taste is so authentic. I asked for spicey sauce and the brought out pickled peppers in three assortments in tin trays. It was so good! Food was very fresh. The restaurant is really clean. Staff was friendly and quick. My husband and I will definitely be going back!!!

This was one of the best Thai restaurants I have been to. Ordered the Hoy Jor to start with. This was crispy and yummy. Ordered the Sukothai Noodle Soup, level 5 spicy,š which was spicy and tangy. Also got Ta Khai with beef, level 6 spicy and Pick King chicken level 6. I love the Ta Khai.

YUMMY!!!!!!!!! I love Thai food and have had it in many countries but outside of Asia, this is the best! I had the red chicken curry and it was spiced and flavored just right. Also had the shrimp wraps and those thangs were sooooo good. Will come back all the times!!!!

I don't trust the opinion of anyone who calls someone their "dining partner" in a yelp review as they are probably pretentious AF. That being said, I pretty much dig this place. I work on Ft Belvoir and this is one of the closest, but definitely the best, Thai food places around. Everything I've tried has been good, the portions are satisfying and the prices are fair. My only complaint is that their 'spicy' dishes could definitely be spicier. When I order something with a "spicy warning" next to it, it's because I want to suffer just a little, in a good way. Also their sweet rice isn't all that exciting either but since I don't order dessert here when I go for lunch, and I really only go for lunch, I can live with that.

The food here is great. I like their chicken in Thai peanut curry sauce and of course their Pad Thai. The service is pretty fast. Rice and Spice is also moderately priced and a lot cheaper than other Thai places in Alexandria, but is still great quality food. I would highly recommend Rice and Spice.

The CUSTOMER SERVICE is TERRIBLE. Never go here. Whoever is reading this, I want to inform you on exactly why you should not go here. I'm an avid customer at this restaurant, and I went there with my wife last weekend. We weren't even done eating yet, and the server brought the check demanding we pay. WHAT NONSENSE. They were absolutely disrespectful and redundantly brought us incorrect orders. Why bother to eat somewhere when one can't feel comfortable and well-respected. The staff even asked us to be nice to them. Furthermore, our server closed the restaurant an hour early, served us different alcohol than what was on the menu, and asked us to wait outside the restaurant for 20 min because they were vacuuming the restaurant. When one goes to a restaurant, 80% is customer service and 20% is food. Overall, please don't go here if you want to have a good experience.

We have ordered delivery from Rice & Spice Thai Cuisine. We have been very pleased with the quality of the food as well as the price. We have been searching for a place that gives the option of making the Thai food more spicy and this is definitely the place! They have good flavors and a large menu to choose from. The only complaint is that it has taken over an hour the last couple of times for the food to be delivered to us (the last time was outside of their control -- there was an accident, so definitely understandable). But it's well worth it! We have ordered the Pad Se Eww (medium spice), green curry (spicy), the peanut curry (medium spicy) and the equivalent to drunk noodle (spicy). All delicious choices! As a recommendation (just because I like a lot of rice with my curry) I would order an extra side of rice for the curry dishes -- they are very generous with the amount of curry. For as long as we live in this location, I think Rice and Spice Thai Cuisine will be our "go to" for Thai food!

Shamefully, my boyfriend and I have ordered takeout from this place 3 times in one week. IT'S SO DELICIOUS. We've had the pad thai, pad see eaw, tom yum soup, and kapow on rice -- ALL AMAZING! The lunch specials are a great price and good size portions. This is our new go-to Thai place and luckily it's very close to home!

My husband and I decided to try Rice and Spice since we have not tried any Thai restaurants in the DC metro area since moving here a month ago and also due to the great reviews. Boy, was I disappointed. We went around 7pm on a rainy Monday night. There were maybe two or three other parties dining there at the time. We were greeted nicely by a male and female employees. Pretty friendly. Calamari was first to be ordered as an appetizer along with two Thai iced teas. First off...they don't offer free refills on Thai tea which is fine. Other Thai restaurants we have been to either have free refills or will give a refill for a discounted price (maybe a dollar per refill). The tea was alright. The calamari was also just OK. It is breaded and fried. The breaded part was a soft type that reminded me of the fried food at a state fair. The sauce that came with it was pretty good. I ordered the fried rice and hubby ordered pad Thai. I usually order fried rice at most Thai restaurants we go to so I pretty much know how it tastes (we've been to Thai restaurants in various states). First of all they did not ask what level of "spicy-ness" we would like our dish to be...it's usually mild, medium, hot or Thai hot. All Thai restaurants we've been to have asked some form of that question. When our entree arrived, we were delighted to see the large amount of food on our plate. The portions were generous. As we dug into our food we both noticed that it tasted a little "off". Not much flavor in my dish and in the words of my husband on his dish, "this does not taste like pad Thai". As we continued to eat, the server asked if we needed anything and I asked for some Sriracha sauce...he repeated me and I said yes. What he came out with did not look like Sriracha sauce. It was reddish/orange sauce in a small condiment bowl that was not very spicy. The fried rice was a bit on the bland side and I ended up eating maybe a third of my meal before I got a stomach ache and couldn't eat any more of it. I gave this place two stars because the staff was pretty friendly and the place was clean. The food on the other hand was not great. I don't think I will be returning to Rice and Spice..I'll probably try other Thai restaurants. The stomach ache I received while eating there pretty much made that decision for me.

Great place! Food is a "5" Ambience is a "3" Recommend for carry-out or an informal dine-in lunch with the work-gang. You can't go wrong here -- the food will always bring you back. I've eaten here for 4+ years -- the staff is attentive and service is fast. The curry dishes cannot be beat and the mango sticky-rice is as good as it gets. Enjoy!

  • Jay S.

I've tried the classic green curry chicken at MANY Thai restaurants in the area and this is by far the best one. There's a hidden flavor that really brings out the curry compared to other places which are just blah. They also spice it up to your liking unlike other places which are too conservative in my opinion. The portion size is generous and actually slightly cheaper than the average you would typically pay for the same meal.

Authentic Thai taste in the Kingstown neighborhood can be found at Rice & Spice. Crispy Basil Duck is one of my favorite dishes to order anywhere. Thankfully, they do a great job here. Take out is available but free delivery within 3 miles for an order over $15.

I called to order for to go and I show up 30 mins later to find out my food still not done yet. I have to wait about 20 more mins. I understand if I restaurant was busy but it wasn't. They didn't cook my food until I arrived. The reason I knew about this because I understand Thai. The waitress went to the kitchen and told the kitchen staff that I'm here so they can go ahead and start cooking. Not a good impression for a new customer at all! I order pad-thai, pad-see ew and chicken satay. I could only finish the chicken satay and the rest of my food went to the trash can. They were horrible, greasy and bland. the food was mediocre not thing special about it. Not a real Thai food. If you want a big portions food with low quality then go there! Btw, I'm Thai and I know how Thai food supposed to test like, just saying!

Found this place a by accident and have never been to another thai restaurant for dinner since. LOVE the food quality, good menu options. Excellent seafood dishes, chicken dishes and a small, but effective childs menu. Spring roll appetizers are amazing, best i have ever had. Any chance I get, i make my way down to alexandria to eat at this restaurant. its a small place, and from the outside it doesnt look like much, but trust me, you gotta check it out.

Staff was very friendly and attentive. Food was delicious! We had 2 aps, 2 curry dishes, and a noodle dish. Lots of flavor, nice portion sizes and fresh ingredients. Only con is that I wish they'd pick up crumbs and wrappers off of the carpet in the dining area. Looked a little messy. Great spot, will return!

I read the reviews of others and thought this restaurant was going to be good. I order the Pad Thai because is their specialty... but it was a great disappointment. The food smelled weird, but I was so hungry that a ate some. It was a big mistake because a few hour later I got upset stomach and feel uneasy. Will never go back. Great disappointment. :(

  • Tamara J.

The place was clean and service was fast. The food however was subpar. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't good. Don't spend alot then you won't be disappointed. I was disappointed.

  • Jin Y.

It was okay. Nothing wonderful to harp about. They gave good portions, but their pad thai had too much fish sauce, couldn't taste any other ingredient that normally goes into pad thai. It also didn't smell good because of the imbalance of ingredients. I was worried people at work would think I smelled fishy alll day. Their Tom Yum was also mediocre and not spicy enough. It is ]thai made for people who don't know what real thai food is supposed to be like (panda express for people who don't know what real chinese food is supposed to be like). If you're going for authentic, don't go here.

Must haves: Pad Thai, Pad See Ew Both eat in and take out is always on point. They use great ingredients and food you can tell is fresh. The wait staff is attentive and pleasant. The restaurant is clean and modern and a great first date location. Ample parking. Rice and Spice is great go to Thai place in NOVA.

Go early and often. It's right outside of the military base, so this places gets packed! We got there at 12:30 and got the last table just as they were cleaning it off from the previous party. They give you a complimentary soup as soon as you sit down, and it was really good. Cabbage, carrot, etc in a broth. The spring rolls were lightly fried, and had good, fresh ingredients. I ordered the pad thai (my staple for first time thai places), but immediately regretted not ordering the red curry when it passed by me. The pad thai was piping hot and had great flavor. It was a VERY large portion for $7.

cozy. great menu options. food was delicious. spring roll apps were light & flavorful. sorry to hear a car crashed into their front entrance ( very strange ) - hard to notice the entrance because of the temporary wood door.

  • Sandy S.

Oh boy, the Basil Crispy Duck is so delicious! It gives me goosebumps when I eat it. It is a bit spicy, but not too much. It is a work of art. The custard is very good too. I've only called for pick up and haven't stayed to eat there. I recommend the food! The employees are very nice. The restaurant is tastefully done; the only reason it didn't get five stars is that the restaurant is too small for my preference.

  • Kat V.

Rice & Spice has me all thai'ed up in their awesome menu and tasty treats. MMM! Many places in the Springfield area have disappointed me, but not Rice & Spice. Countless times, I've conquered their menu, and was left with a satisfied belly and a wallet not completely emptied. My favorite dish is the Basil Duck. It is so tasty, tender, and thai-riffic! I could probably gobble this up on my own with some white rice all day! The other signature thai dishes such as the pad thai and pad see ew have never failed me, and they have a great tom yum soup. The dining room itself is no-frills and very casually set up. If you want a pretty Thai scenery go to Mai-Thai in Old Town, but otherwise, Rice & Spice is the perfect place to please your Thai-cravin' palette. =)

  • Foodie F.

This restaurant has unique dishes that are not too be missed. They do not repeat your standard thai dishes (though the standard pad thai, drunken noodles, etc are avail and done well). My favorite dish is the kapow moo krob - spicy crispy pork belly with vegetables. It is easy to miss the location in a strip mall but do yourself the favor of finding this place.

  • Kurt J.

I've been to Rice & Spice numerous times while visiting my father and I have to say that I really like this little place and hope it continues to do well. They are constantly upgrading their place with new decor and their service is very friendly and fast. The food is really great as well! My favorite dish here is the Kapow on Rice, which is minced chicken sautéed with basil, garlic and chili sauce served on top of rice. Another favorite is the Pad See Eaw with shrimp stir-fried with wide rice noodles, egg, broccoli, and Thai soy sauce. The latter sometimes is a little sweet for my liking but other times it is perfect. The only gripe I have with Rice & Spice is that the food isn't very spicy (even when asked for spicy) for all the lovers of spicy Thai food.

Good lunch, decent prices, decent service. I liked it but it was good standard food and nothing out of this world. If you want solid thai food for a solid price I'd visit again.

Solid. Reliable. Nothing extraordinary, but nothing bad either. We order takeout from here pretty regularly because it's close, fast and reliable.

  • Ken V.

We have ordered delivery dinner from them many times. The food is always excellent. My favorite is the crispy squid with basil. My wife loves their Penang chicken and the curry puff starter. Could stand to be a bit spicier, though. (I was in Bangkok last week, and their default spice level is way higher there.) I always ask for extra spicy, but it's never enough. But the flavors are superb.

    (4)
  • Veronique L.

I literally just ordered from them this evening for delivery. My fellow co workers eat here all the time, so I wanted to see what the hype was about. This place is amazing! They were so efficient they came faster then the promised time and the food is delicious. I ordered the kids Satay because I wasn't too hungry, but my boyfriend and his friend ordered Chicken Pad Thai, but they were both different modifications and they nailed both of them perfectly. I will definitely order from them again and maybe if I have time go in and check out the dining in there as well!

  • Samantha E.

I ordered the garlic chicken lunch special and it was pretty good. You got a well portioned amount of food for lunch and there really was tons of garlic The flavor was pretty good but nothing too spectacular. Then again, I always feel that Thai food falls flat for me because it really tastes the same at almost any place you go.

  • Adriana F.

A co-worker was telling me about this place. So everyone in the office decided to try it. I ordered the pineapple fried rice, it was okay I've had better. My co-worker ordered the crispy duck, I have never eaten duck until this day and it was nothing I imagined. It was great, so good, crispy and full of flavor. My other co worker bought the Thai crispy chicken, it was boneless fried chicken. The sauce that came with it was not good but the chicken was edible. My supervisor order the Kapow Fried Rice, it was spicy but not too much and flavorful. Everyone enjoyed their meal, I've had better but it's not bad for the price.

I love really spicy food, and I've been searching for a Thai restaurant that is both good and satisfies my fiery food cravings. After visiting Rice and Spice once, I'm still looking for such a restaurant. Immediately upon being seated, my dining partner and I were served small bowls of a lite chicken vegetable soup. It was OK, but truthfully, I would have preferred tea. My dining partner and I started with steamed dumplings. The order consisted of 6 dumplings on a plate of soy sauce (with scallions) and a mound of stringed carrot as a garnish. The plate looked nice, but I would have preferred the soy sauce be served in a bowl on the side. The dumplings' flavor was OK, but was pretty ordinary. For my entree I had the Ta Khai with chicken. The dish was as you'll find at most/all Thai restaurants and consisted of chicken stir-fried with lemon grass, basil leaves, and curry powder, red and green bell pepper. It also came with steamed broccoli. The serving size was decent, but I would have appreciated more broccoli as I received only four smallish florets. I ordered my entree "Thai hot", unfortunately what I received was quite weak. I normally don't send things back to the kitchen, but I felt compelled to this time. A short while later my plate was returned, this time much spicier. My Ta Khai had OK flavor, but was rather unremarkable. One quite annoying aspect of my visit was the ordering process. After giving us menus, our server returned no more than 1 minute later and asked if we were ready to order. We politely said we needed a few more minutes, but our server returned again after only about another 2 minutes. Again we asked for more time. Our server wasn't rude, but his actions did make us feel sort of rushed. (Our visit was at about 3:00 pm on a Monday afternoon and there were only two other tables occupied.)

Friendly staff, reasonably fast service, and wonderful food. I've never had a bad experience at Rice & Spice, and I've been to or ordered from the restaurant probably 15 times or so. The panang curry, pad see ew, spring rolls, and pad thai are all very good. The decor is very pleasant, although the restaurant is very small in size.

I visit this place at least once a week with coworkers at lunch. The place gets packed so that takes off half a star. It is great if you get in early, but if you try to go after 11:30 or so, good luck. You most likely will be turned away or have to wait outside. The food itself is awesome. The staff is very friendly and they all know what we generally order by now since we go so often. From the chicken fried rice to the curry to the various appetizers, this place crushes anything else in the shopping center it is located in. The other half star comes off from the fact I wish you got more food haha. I only compare it to other simple Thai places and at other places for the same exact price (fried rice for example), you get a lot more food at other places. Overall, you can't go wrong with this place!

I had missed lunch due to a meeting and was in a rush to grab some carryout to take back to the office. As luck would have it, my go-to pho shop was closed in between their lunch and dinner periods. As I drove around the parking lot of the Landsdowne Center looking at the various food options in the strip mall, I spied Rice & Spice Thai Cuisine. Had I read Brian B's review prior to me doing laps around the parking lot, I would've just driven straight over. I love me some Thai and I had a taste for some green curry with chicken...Thai hot. Rice & Spice, like many of their neighboring restaurants offering various ethnic cuisines in the shopping center, is a family-owned/operated restaurant. I much prefer patronizing mom & pop restaurants than corporate-run chain places. Seeing how the entire family was speaking their native tongue, I had a very good feeling that the Thai flavors wouldn't be dumbed down to accommodate the American palate. I received the lunch-sized portion (generous, but right-sized) of green curry with a side of steamed white rice. The total came out to $8.50...a bargain...especially considering how it tasted! Rice & Spice delivered with the Thai hot seasoning. It passed my "Sweaty Brow' test (not to be confused with the "Schweddy Ball" test). youtube.com/watch?v=vXSy… Rice & Spice was a pleasant surprise and I look forward to trying more of their offerings. Rice & Spice has been added to my work week lunch rotation!

This is average Thai. I've had the pleasure of eating at the Thai Box and it's far superior in every single way possible. Service and food for starters will knock Rice and Spice way down compared to the Thai Box. Nothing appears hand made or unique. The most standard spring rolls you'll ever find.... heck, even your local supermarket has the same type. I got the Red Curry and it was ok. I asked for very spicy and they either didn't get the memo or that was their version of spicy, which was very peppery at best. Huge let down. Place is very cramped inside and it was busy. Wait staff are just doing their job of taking your order and getting you fed. Nothing special there either. This is Thai food at the median level. Not greasy and favorable for sure. A few chopped peppers and onion were in the curry, which is a pretty boring too. Dunno. I was expecting a heck of a lot more. Again, in comparison to their counter-part which is down the road, The Thai Box, this place is not in the same league at all. It's a shame, heard rave things before.

Drunken Noodles and curry puff were excellent. Next time I'm trying the red curry duck and spring rolls!

I have tried everything on the menu and it is the best. Some of the dishes are spicy, so if you have a delicate palette they will adjust the spices.

Oh how I love you Minced Chicken over rice! First time I had this it became my most favorite thai dish. I tried to order this same exact dish at every Thai restaurant I've gone to. Never meets nearly as good as this place. The Pad See Ew is another favorite dish of mine as well. I would also recommend the Yum Steak(Salad). This place is a bit small, but always provided a wonderful service. This place never let me down. I've been coming here for years! =)

This place was my place for Thai! Always get the beef pad thai here, use to get the crispy basil duck too but that's more of a luxury dish. Sadly got some pad thai yesterday with a pube in it. I guess I'll have to drive a few miles further now to get my thai. Bummer...

I go to Rice and Spice a few times a month, as my office isn't too far. I CRAVE their penang!!! And their crispy basil duck is awesome!!! And today... I felt like ordering both and eating one for lunch and one for dinner. I've eaten in a few times, and like other reviewers said, it is definitely small. But go early, or go at the tail end of lunch and you'll find a table. There staff is always really nice and helpful, as well as quick. So...I am a penang junkie!!!! I know it's not specifically Thai so much as Malay, but I get it at every Thai place I go to. Rice and Spice's penang, at a level 3, is hot enough for me to feel, but not so hot I couldn't enjoy it. I always get it with beef, and the pieces of beef are really tender. Today when I got take out of penang, and one of the other reviewers said how tiny their take out portions had gotten. ...I didn't experience this at all, as it seems the same size it always is when I dine in. I also just love the crispy basil duck!! I eat that at level 3 heat, too, and it's always great. I just love they fry the basil leaves! And it really is crispy - even when reheated!! It's also not a heavy batter, making you feel that sick full like when you eat cheap Chinese food (...which I find is how MOST Thai places i/a that area taste...). The duck is also never full of fatty, non-meat pieces. The chili garlic sauce they pair it with it is really great, also. So, all and all, I think this little place is awesome, and I don't want them to change. I've never had a bad experience here since I started eating at Rice and Spice in Dec 2010.

Hi--first visit tonite. Great service, even better food. Location is convenient, restaurant and staff were lovely. Will be back!

The only complaint I have for this place is it is too cluttered -- especially during lunchtime. I'm sure by now they have made a lot of money to expand because they're always full. Other than that, the food is absolutely DELICIOUS. The thai fried rice with shrimp is my favorite. They have a good menu selection and I have not been disappointed nor have I ever heard any negative comments other than it's too small. A good place to dine just don't ever, ever, plan on going with a group of people. They can only accommodate onesis and twosies; maybe 4 at the most.

Have eaten here twice now for lunch. The staff is very friendly and nice. I have had the special ground chicken basil lo mein each time with a spring roll and is great! Just enough spice and very well flavored! It is very close to Ft, Belvoir, so I am sure I will be back!

I love this food. I have been to Thailand and this is about as close as you can get without hitting the mother country. The problem is that the place is very crowded if you don't hit here before 12 on a weekday. On the weekends they are still very crowded and for very good reason. For people who have never had Thai food, I recommend the curry to start off or the Pad Thai.

I love this Thai place! The only reason I didn't give it 5stars is because we always have an issue with the customer service when it comes to delivering to my job. When I go in, I never have a problem and the service is great. I swear by their Kapow chicken fried or on white rice. The kapow with white rice is my fav because the veggies are fresh and crispy. Their fried rices are the best in the area. Not so oily like chinese restaurants.

Awesome place. Go with any of the curries or lo mein with minced chicken. Super friendly people, too.

One of my favorite Thai places in NOVA. The place is always packed and the food is consistently good. I like that you can add "heat/spice" to any dish to your liking.

This is a wonderful choice if you are pressed for time. The service is relatively fast and the menu offers a popular variety of thai cuisine. The red curry tofu is quite flavorful with its coconut milk & peppers, I usually add ginger. The tom yum soup is spicy so it may not be ideal for those with a weak tongue. One of my favorite dishes is the pineapple fried rice with a heaping portion of any choice meat, pineapple, and veggies. I also found their thai iced tea quite refreshing after all that spicy food. Relatively affordable and they do deliver to the limited area.

If you like your Thai food spicy, this is the place to go. You can specify level 1 - 10 (Ten is the spiciest). The staff is quick and very friendly. They deliver within two miles. I always order my vegetable stir fry from them because they know how make it just right :) Their dumplings are very good as well.

The good is great! My only complaint is when I went in to eat instead of carry out, it took a long time for someone to take our order and even longer to get the food.

Was really good Thai food. I don't remember what I ordered here... But I remember it was delicious.

To qualify my review, I have to say that I might be better classified as a Drunken Noodles/Pad Kee Mao enthusiast since that is what I tend order about 90% of time. Out of the over 30 times that I've been to Rice & Spice, I've been probably ordered something different than the Pad Kee Mao twice. That being said though, I've always gone to Rice & Spice with friends and family who tend order different food, and I've always heard very positive reviews from them. To provide some background on the restaurant first before I plunge in to the delicious and delectable details of the dish, Rice & Spice is neatly tucked away in the suburbs, west of Alexandria. I don't even remember how I managed to find it 7 or 8 years ago, given that it is a fairly small and hidden among several other restaurants and stores. Their location is a bit unfortunate and I've often thought that if only it were somewhere in Alexandria or DC, then it could actually grow to its potential. Nonetheless, Rice & Spice makes good use of their space and is decorated in a modest classic American Thai restaurant style. The service is consistently quick, courteous, and accurate. In all the time I've dined at Rice & Spice I've never witnessed an order messed up - which is major points in my book and I'm sure very well appreciated by many other diners. Finally, on to the dish! I tend to get the Pad Kee Mao with pork, and the first thing I notice is the generous portions! Though they have raised their price a bit over the years (along with most other restaurants), you still get a great bang for your buck with this dish! Though I tend to also be a spice enthusiast, and love the Thai spices that they provide on the side upon request, this dish comes expertly spiced already. The array of vegetables perfectly complements the meat and wide rice noodles; the peppers and lettuce in the dish especially absorb the tangy flavor and remind you that there's more than just meat and noodles to Pad Kee Mao! The noodles though, are what really make the dish distinctive and unique. The perfect consistency and the way all the right flavors are cooked in to the noodles makes the dish the gold standard I use when dining in other Thai restaurants. So, in summary, If you're a fan of Thai food - especially Drunken Noodles/Pad Kee Mao, I highly recommend Rice and Spice, it may very well turn out to be the little place that keep coming back to over and over again.

This place is a great neighborhood spot. It's small and cozy like many have said. The staff is limited, but very friendly. On our 2nd visit, the girls remembered us, which is always a nice feeling. The food is pretty consistent, and very decent for a quick replacement for my go to Thai Square. The papaya sald could be more flavorful, but they always have a new appetizer special I always try that is very good. My favorite dish there is the Kee-Mow noodles. It is wide noodles with tomato basil and spices. I get it spicey and add the powdered hot peppers to it. Yum. A plus is that they deliver, and they're quick. Everything I've had here is a good night's dinner worthy. And not expensive. Check it out if ever in the area, I'm all for supporting small neighborhood spots. *Someone told me they opened a location somewhere in DC*

This is my favorite Thai place in the Springfield area. The Ka-Prow fried rice is awesome. I usually get the shrimp and chicken mix. Plenty of large size shrimp and thin cut breast meat. Flavors are great and they do not back down on the heat factor.

I recently moved from the Old Town Alexandria area, and I loved Mai Thai down on the waterfront... so I was looking forward to find a thai place closer to satisfy the craving. I think I found in Rice & Spice a fairly good comparison. The service was extremely quick and very polite. The atmosphere leave a little to be desired, but what can you expect from a small restaurant in a mini mall right? On to the food... I ordered the spring rolls and was delighted by both the size of the portion and the taste. The sweet thai sauce accompanying the rolls was great with a sweet, lightly spicy test. For my entree I decided on an old staple that i use to get a general feel of new thai places - Cashew Chicken. The brown sauce was slightly sweet and extremely tastey. However, there was a generous helping of onions and scallions (and red bell peppers) that seemed to overpower the fact there was chicken and just a few cashews. Seems like you should have mostly chicken and cashews right? Well in this dish it was probably 75% vegetables and so it turned me off a bit. It was good overall, but not exactly what I was anticipating. This and the lack of ambience is why I gave this 3 stars. I will try Rice & Spice again, and this time a more standard Pad Thai.... Quite a few folks came in for "Carry Out" while I was eating so maybe its worth giving it another shot, and improving the score

Mmm they aren't kidding with the spice. I've had delivery, carryout and dine in and I have never been disappointed. The restaurant itself is pretty small, painted bright blue and hidden in a strip mall. The decor is kind of funky but they have a well stocked bar, the service is great and the food is very tasty and very affordable. I wouldn't bring a date here if you are trying to wine and dine, but I would recommend if you are craving delicious thai food. For appetizers I recommend the tom kha soup with chicken or the dumplings. The chicken satay isn't worth the six bucks so I would avoid that. The panang, red and karee curry are all very good and have just the right amount of coconut milk and heat. Their noodle dishes are also pretty good but I think the curries are your best bet. I think the best part of rice and spice is that you can control how hot your dish is on a scale of 1-10. My friend got a 6 and I had to one up him and ordered an 8. Now I have a high tolerance for heat but um, yeah I learned my lesson and now stick to a 6. If things get too spicy order a thai iced tea. Not too sweet but perfect to cool off if with if your tolerance is not as high as you thought.

One of my favorite Thai restaurants. They have changed owners within the last 2 years but the quality of the food and service has stayed consistent. As far as I know, everybody working there is Thai as you can always hear them speaking Thai among themselves. They really know how to make their Thai food Thai spicy, which is a must for a Thai restaurant to make it to the top of my list. They possibly have the best Nom Tok in the DC area. Their food is always cooked with fresh ingredients and the portions are generous for what you pay. After not having been there for a while, my boyfriend and I went for a visit yesterday on our way back into the city and oh my god I am still thinking about the spicy squid. We ordered nom tok, crispy spicy squid with basil, and bamboo and tofu with sweet and spicy basil sauce. The squid was new on the menu and it was the most delicious thing I've had in a while.

This is my neighborhood Thai place and It's great! We always order takeout. Panang curry is my favorite while my other half always goes with Pad Thai. I also love their satay and spring rolls. It's not the prettiest location but for a consistent and yummy meal it fits the bill.

Wasington Post food section says it's worth the trip for the 'Famous Sticky Rice with Mango'..... So, eventually I did make my way over there and ordered take out. The dining area is small, but iviting. The main dishes are perfectly acceptable thai food. Nothing spectacular, just fine. The sticky rice with mango is yum. It's always a little cooled off by the time I get to it - since I've only ordered it to go. I bet it's even better when it's straight out of the kitchen. I'm not the world's biggest dessert person, but I'll keep adding this on to my to-go order!

This place is great. All the dishes we have tried have a great flavor and the food is prepared to your exact level of spiciness. Try their fried rice or the wok fried pork with veggies and garlic sauce. We are now a regular fan of this place.

Since moving to the area from PA I have frequented this place on a regular basis. I have been to many Thai Restaurants and this is by far the best. Very misleading considering it is in a strip mall. It's a very small place however it definitely makes the best food. My favorite dish is by far the Red Curry (level 5) and they make the best I have found. Next favorite is the Pad Se Ew (level 5) which definitely has some heat to it. All of the appetizers (Kanom Jeeb, Calamari, Satay) are outstanding and every now and when I have to venture away from my two dishes when I see an intriguing special. I have never tried the Fried Rice, but I have heard from all my friends that it is also excellent. Oh yeah, I forgot about the drinks, you have to get the "Drunken Thai Coffee" nothing else to say about that, it comes loaded with the alcohol and has the potent coffee to keep you energized. Be warned to go for a second one, you might not go to sleep for a little while. Anyway to sum it up, I wish I lived or worked closer to Rice and Spice I would frequent it on a regular basis just like old times sake. As mentioned before I have been to all sorts of Thai places from hole in the walls to fine dining, and Rice and Spice has by far the best Red Curry. If you don't give this place a try, you REALLY ARE MISSING OUT. Sorry to hear that.

It's good food and a friendly staff. The price is a little high for the quality received. It's located just off base so it's always pack with the military guys and gals for lunch so come early!

This is one of the best Thai restaurants in the DMV (DC, MD, VA)... You wouldn't be able to tell from looking at the storefront. That's what it is, literally, a storefront in a small shopping center. It doesn't give off any hint of being a very good restaurant...but it is. The flavor and spice is great...and make sure if you can't handle spice, ask them to go easy on it. The food is loaded with flavor, and is very consistent. I have eaten there many times, and tried dishes from all sections of the menu. If they found a better location, they would be on to something serious!

On my most recent visit here-the carry out portion has gotten much smaller. I looked in my bag to make sure everything was there and noticed that the rice portion was in a much smalller box then usual. When I got home and opened up my main dish, I noticed that the portion was much smaller as well. The portions have gotten smaller-the price stayed the same-not good.

I can't believe there's been only one review. Ok, it's been 2 yrs since i've been here b/c we moved out of state BUT it was my favorite thai restaurant. So hopefully the food hasn't changed. The food is fresh, quality is good and it's delicious. I went 5 times and was never disappointed unlike some other the well known thai restaurants in falls church.

Rice and Spice has the best Thai food around. I agree with "Chandana" that the curries are the best, but my favorite dish is the minced chicken with eggplant. I also love the appetizers, and all the calamari and duck dishes are great. Chicken soup lovers should try the Sukothai Soup -- yummy! I rarely have room for dessert, but it's a good day when I do. They are fantastic! Try the bread pudding and the sticky rice with mango. And the Rice and Spice service is great, too. A friendly neighborhood place with terrific people -- both serving and dining. I can't imagine what "christine s." is thinking. I've been to R&S at least 50 times over the last 5 years and have never gotten bad service! Oh -- and, by the way, the standard automatic gratuity for parties of 6 or more is actually 18%, not 15%. In fact, Rice and Spice is our choice for celebrating my birthday this year with friends!

The food here is very good. Large portions. If you ask them to make it spicy, boy will they! I live around the corner and enjoy getting take out from here a lot. The dining room is small but usually pretty empty. The Pad Thai is very good.

My favorite Thai restaurant. The food is delicious and the portions are huge! 2 meals in one. However, the staff can be a bit rude and slow when dinning in.

Love their cashew chicken! The side salad they give you when you dine-in is delicious. Service is good, although they tend to get swamped during the rush hour. Definitely my favorite lunch spot in the area.
