Mexican Cuisine
If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.

Had an incredible meal & fantastic service. We got our food to go, and they took great care in packing it up for us. We ordered 3 pasoles, and they packed up the cilantro, onions, chilis, oregano, tortilla strips & avocado for us to top, had streak fajitas, chorizo tacos and guacamole. It's the best meal I've had in a long time, thank you Cafe Silvestre!

I used to eat at the Gunnison, Colorado location of this small chain of family owned restaurants. We've always been pleased with the price and quality of their food. This location is close to home, and there was a time we'd eat here or get carry out about once a week. When I checked in today, I realized I hadn't written a review. Ironically, there was a "For Sale" sign in their lot, and we learned they will be closing when they are able to sell. The Canyon Rim and Midvale locations are remaining open. It's too bad this neighborhood is losing a nice place for Mexican dining.

There's a lot better options out there. I haven't been to a Cafe Silvestre for over 15-20 years and thought it might be time to relive old memories with my dad. What a mistake that was. Cafe Silvestre was one of the original Mexican restaurant chains in the valley and pretty good back then. Over the years they've gone downhill. They have spawned spinoffs like La Puente and La Frontera, which are better. Sadly, this time, Cafe Silvestre just drove me away permanently. I'm not sure how it's getting any good reviews. First this place looks like it hasn't been updated since the 80's. Don't get me wrong, I know there's a lot of good Mexican places out there that aren't the fanciest but at least the food is good. This place looked, and felt, dingy. But that's just for starters, let's talk food. I ordered the chile verde burrito plate. I also wanted the side of chile relleno but found out they use Anaheim peppers for that. I don't understand Mexican restaurants that use those instead of poblano peppers. I've never seen that in Mexico, not to mention it's just not as good. The chile verde was ok, hence the two stars, but the rice and beans were pretty bland. My dad ordered the menudo, always kinda risky anywhere. It was served in a bowl a third the size of any other restaurant. It was ridiculous. Not to mention watery tasting. I think they just added extra water to it and reheated it. Didn't even give it time to get any flavor. It also came with one flour tortilla that was hard. I have a sneaky suspicion it was because it was also reheated. It had some extra darker spots that kinda point that direction. They did give us an new tortilla which was definitely fresher and kind of confirmed my previous accusations. We mentioned all these things to the server but nothing was really done about it besides the fresher tortilla. I think she might have felt embarrassed as well. Cafe Silvestre, you're dead to me. RIP.

It's just like La Frontera and less like La Puente. I mean, honestly, I don't know how more concise I could possibly be. I like it, mostly for the consistency. I don't care what time or year it is, you're going to get the exact same dish you did the last time you were here. Right down to the chips and salsa. Not even Red Iguana, the mother of all that is amazing about Mexican restaurants can say that. I mean, they can about everything aside from their chips. Their chips aren't what they were in 1984. But this post isn't about Red Iguana. It's about the goodness and consistency that is any location of this veritable chain. Thank you. Thank you very much.

This place has some of the best Chile Verde EVER. It's usually pretty quick so if you're in a rush it's perfect.

Most mediocre Mexican food.Salsa ...way too much tomatoe.Almost like ketchup. No beer.Lost liquor license.Tried cheese enchilada plate.Adobo sauce weak.Very strange vibe felt like the place is going out of business.Plenty of better places in SLC...

I went to Cafe Silvestre today for the first time, and I absolutely loved it. I had the soft taco with chorizo filling, and my sister had the special (chicken burrito with rice and beans). What I loved most about our experience is the owner was our server, and he was incredibly gracious. He brought out samples of both the chorizo and the chile verde for us to try (gracious samples I might add) beforehand. When our meals came, I mentioned I'd wanted the soft taco not the hard, so he brought me out another one and told me to take the first one home (which I did). I was just simply amazed at his service and generosity. He said he'd been running his business for 30 years. I don't doubt it. I loved it. I'll be going back - next time with my hubby. ps The servings are gracious. :)

Really good, authentic Mexican food. Amazing service. The salsa is just spicy enough that I like it a lot but so do my kids. Amazing guacamole. My husband loves the pepper jack chicken chimichanga cause it's SO good.

Smothered burritos are the shit. The salsa is the blended type but i love it. This place has been around for a while. Come through.

I really liked this place a lot. Food was great and service was quick and friendly. I could honestly say I would go out of way to come back. The chile verde was perfect. And what I really liked was the beer prices are really good. I will be back soon for sure.

If you like the smell of mold then this place is for you ! The smell was overwhelming The place was dirty, the tables were messy, the foundation in the corner was crumbling. Time to bring in the bulldozer. We walked out before we had a asthma attack This was 03/05/15 Can`t imagine what the kitchen looked like.

Mexican comfort food. The chili verde special is the best. Smothered with cheese and onions, beans and rice. Yum! Have been a customer for over 15 years. Never disappointed, friendly servers, great price, and quick service.

I ate here tonight and I must say it was suprisingly delicious!!!! I read many reviews about the other locations so I decided to try the West Valley one out. The chips and salsa were awesome and I highly reccommend getting the guacamole dip as well! I got the enchilada platter which was descent but I am picky about my enchilada sauce and this was nothing special. My boyfriend had the chimichanga plate and he loved it! I took a bite of his chimichanga and I have to say I will be getting this next time we go here! I would definantly reccommend giving this place a try! It is one of the better mexican food places in salt lake! UPDATE: the smothered burrito here is delish! It's one of the only things I found worth the heartburn during my pregnancy! In fact now that I'm moving back to salt lake I can't wait to eat here again.

I've been coming here since I was 13 with one of my friends. I really like that you can tell everything is made fresh and that your food was not in the microwave 30 seconds prior to it coming out. Prices are extremely fair and service is prompt and attentive. This is a go to spot for me when I crave a quick, sit-down Mexican fix. *I also like that they serve their drinks using crushed, instead of cubed, ice*
