Healthy Meal suggestions for Cracker Barrel

This may have been a case of everything going wrong all on the same night, but it seems like there are systemic management issues that need to be resolved before I would go back to this establishment. First, the staff is not service oriented. It is one thing to be friendly. Everyone that we came in contact with was friendly, but being customer centric and service minded is a very different thing. Something as simple as asking if the store has nuts for a gift, and being told that we would need to look around to see if there were any, and then if we still couldn't find them, she would call someone to see if they could help us is an example of what I am talking about. After being seated in the restaurant, we were surrounded by 4, (not kidding here) separate cases of glass breaking all around us. The wait staff must have had nerves or something because every few minutes glasses, plates, and bottles would fall off of serving plates on come crashing to the floor. Now, broken glass happens all the time in restaurants, but the reaction to that situation was astonishing to me. Once the glass of a broken bottle of syrup had fallen. The staff that dropped it seemed to be in shock. She didn't know what to do and disappeared into the back for more than 10 minutes. Glass and syrup was all over the floor. The hostess even sat another family and had them step over the slipping accident waiting to happen. A few times we would caution people walking by to notice the hazard. Finally we waved down another staff worker and told her to clean it up. She quickly got a broom and just swept up the glass, leaving the syrup on the floor. After about another 5 minutes someone else came out with a mop to clean up the mess. No sign warning people of a "wet floor" was put out. It was a lawsuit waiting to happen. Now our food was another situation. My family was all served our food at once, except my daughter. When the waitress put everything down, she looked at my daughter and asked if we had everything. I stated that obviously my daughters food had not come out yet. She couldn't remember what had been ordered, and had to place it again. Unfortunately we had to start eating in front of her so our food wouldn't get cold while we waited the 10 minutes for her food to come out. There was no apology for the inconvenience. Nothing was removed from the bill to compensate for the inconvenience. In the meantime, before my daughter was served, the waitress served me the check. All of our food hadn't even arrived, and she had the nerve to give me a check for the food. Ridiculous! Now the place gets two stars because the food was typical of Cracker Barrel. However, I don't think we will come to this establishment again. It is my hope that someone from management reads this and begins a serious training program on customer service. With the abundance of options out there, driving out to Springville will not be worth it if the service isn't worth the price or effort.

The best breakfasts anywhere in Utah County.

Good food. The servers bring the check about two minutes after the food...every time. Feels very rushed. Don't like how the cashier always tries to sell me one more thing. Food is a 4, experience is a 2. We frequently decide to go elsewhere because we don't want to deal with the non-food aspects of the place.

Fantastic experience. I love it every time I go here. They have a variety of items on the menu and that good homestyle taste. The food can be a little bland (lacking salt) at times. But that is just a personal preference. We have always had great service and food at this place and I would highly recommend it.

This place has really went down hill. Service was terrible, they try hard but just can't seem to get the fact that it takes more than just asking how everything is when they walk by. We won't be going back anytime soon.

Upon first glance, the Cracker Barrel is very reminiscent of one of my favorite restaurants growing up, Pinnacle Peak, minus the thousands of neck ties stapled to the wall ( yelp.com/biz/pinnacle-pe… ) I suggest visiting Pinnacle Peak just for the experience. Anyway, back to my review. You walk into a country store in order to make it into the restaurant, and it's like you're walking through an old fashioned candy shop at Disneyland, except on crack. The walls are filled with such treats as Cow Pies and Goo Goos (whatever those are) as well as root beer barrel candies. In addition to the massive collection of random candy, you're also able to tap into your white trash side with the sections devoted to John Deere souvenirs/apparel and heavily adorned crucifixes. Very eclectic. You can also buy lamps whose bases are made out of vintage cans of evaporated milk! I should have taken pictures. The food. It was surprisingly good. I expected the menu to have your typical home-style cooking and such, and was correct. But there were more choices on the menu than expected. Everyday they have different dinner specials - last night was Turkey 'n Dressing - which I needed to try. The only thing I was sad about was that they had chicken and rice, which I love, but only serve it on Saturdays...boo. The turkey 'n dressing wasn't bad at all, and you get a lot of food for $7.99, complete with two sides, cranberry sauce, and stuffing. They also give you a biscuit and a corn muffin. I would suggest asking for some honey if you want to get that corn muffin down...it's a real CORN muffin. I mean it's like they didn't use any type of sweetener in that thing, but I'm sure it would have been better had I asked for some honey. The biscuits...so good; that is, if you like the biscuits served at KFC, which I am addicted to. I brought a biscuit home and pour some honey sauce from KFC on there (yes, I have a stash), and it was incredible...mmm. My friend ordered the chicken fried steak. I think that he enjoyed it, though perhaps he was masking it because I was so excited to go to cracker barrel and he didn't want to taint my experience. His fries were pretty good, though I'm fairly certain that there wasn't a trace of salt on them. He also had a side of cinnamon apples, which he said was good, but just tasted like apple pie filling but fresher. The atmosphere of the restaurant was pretty much what I expected. A lot of old pictures on the wall, which gave you the feeling that you're eating at your great great great grandmother's place (minus the funky odor). The only thing that creeped me out was some of the photos - I swear one of them was Lizzie Borden...ishck....especially since it's like they're watching over you while you eat. Oh! And the place also has old games at each table...the ones that this generation's kids would scoff at and demand a PSP instead....but it entertained me for about 15 minutes. I expected Cracker Barrel to be a little less clean and a lot more podunky, but I was pleasantly surprised. Service was really good, though I did notice the guy next to our table went completely neglected for five minutes, I guess because of some miscommunication between the servers...anyway....really good! I'm going back on a Saturday to get me some chicken 'n rice. UPDATE So my first trip here was on 3/14/08. My most recent trip, as promised, was to try out the chicken 'n rice, which I had on 3/22/08. This experience was pretty much the same, but our server Joan was pretty cool. Still kickin' around at 71, she was a decently lively one who didn't look her age - we were all thinking she was in her sixties. Anyway, the chicken 'n rice was decent. The portions weren't as large as I was expecting (they only took up part of the massive plate that they served it one, which dwarfs the portion size even further), but it was tasty. Oh! And a new discovery upon our last visit - Cracker Barrel serves Mello Yellow. My friend had to order it simply for the novelty aspect of it all...

Not the best Cracker Barrel experience ever, but it's still Cracker Barrel. We came here for lunch on a Sunday and it was fairly empty. Yet, it seemed like they were rushing us to get through the meal. The food did come fast and was the usual Cracker Barrel quality. Another issue came when it was time to pay. They only had one cash register open and a really long line. There were plenty of other staff who could have opened up another register, but it took them like 5 minutes to make the move. The manager was even right there and aware of the situation and did nothing. Very bazaar.

Came here with my boyfriend's family and the server, Alda, was great and very friendly. She quickly took our order and refilled our drinks without asking. She made sure we had all the condiments we needed when our food arrived so and she checked up on us to make sure everything was okay. Great service & great food! We'll be back soon.

Food is always great, pricing is even better. Favorite place for breakfast. Peaches on pecan pancakes, hash brown casserole and some bacon- best ever

They have great pancakes, but they cant make eggs even if their life depended on it. 3 separate visits and had the same issues. I like my over medium and that seems to be a very difficult thing to do. All three visits, they had to make the order of eggs three tie before they go it correct. During one of the visits, the server said that the cook does not know what over medium means lol. As for cracker barrel, it means 3 strikes and your OUT. This is so sad cause they make good pancakes.

The service was very good but the food was closer to a three. I ordered the meatloaf (decent) w/ 3 sides. I liked the carrots but the green beans tasted like they were canned & the mixed veggies were good. The biscuits were really tasty but a little salty. My husband had the trout but would have like more seasoning. My daughter liked her ham & potatoes. Other daughter got chicken fingers & was happy with those!

This was a great dining experience for us tonight. I've had some less than stellar Cracker Barrell outings in the past few months. The chef salad was deconstructed with tons of fresh bacon, ham and roasted chicken. The chicken tortilla soup was amazing. But the best part of our dinner was our server, Sandra. She was just great! Took the time to chat with me and my husband, checked on us frequently. She was a delight. We would come back just to see her. I highly recommend this location.

The food is diner Americana and there is plenty of it! The mashed potatoes are real not flakes and amazing! I recommend the chicken and dumplings and Shane as your server.

Great food. Their ribs have lots of meat. I odered a deal for 5.99 but they were out so the made it up with ribs. And are delicious. Even ether than the ones in texas. (Tried dickies) a funny thing is that the restaurant door is inside the gift shop store. I had to loop arround the restaurant to find the door. But the food is the best don't know why they have 3 stars.

You have to be crazy if you don't like Cracker Barrel in Utah County. I mean, restaurants around here sucks! Cracker Barrel has authentic country food. You might find better country food in other places but not in Utah Country for sure. I always go there. Breakfast , lunch or dinner. You name it, these guys got it ;)

They've done away with their low carb menu, and their unwillingness to substitute items is ridiculous! If I order a breakfast and ask for broccoli instead of pancakes, grits and hash browns, they refuse to sub in the veggies for ALL THREE SIDES! Huh? One veggies versus THREE sides? Get ready to be nickel-and-dimed for everything now! I wanted whole wheat toast instead of regular toast (that'll be $1.99 extra); want to add bacon? That's $3. Want to top your grilled chicken with a slice of cheese (on a dish that used to include cheese but now you have to add it)? That's a big $3 charge too. A meal at Cracker Barrel shouldn't leave you hungry and cost close to $40 for 2 people. The portions have gotten so tiny it is ridiculous (see my photos -- the grilled chicken tenderloins I was served on my most recent visit were SO SMALL)! I hate this place now. It's too customer unfriendly. BOO CRACKER BARREL!

I LOVED this Cracker Barrel when I moved to Utah 10 years ago. Their food quality has gone down since then, but is still better than making it myself, or going to McDonalds. I recommend their chicken fried steak. Their service is always great.

LOVE the store. And the bread is delicious! It's busy so they try to get you in and out pretty fast... Which is annoying but the food is good. Sometimes not enough seasoning but the price is really good.

When visiting town we'll go here just for fun. We've never had a bad experience but this last time all of us had to wait 50 minutes for our food. Other tables that had ordered AFTER us (and had more people!) got their food long before us and were almost done eating when we finally got ours. The least our server could do is bring out rolls while we waited. I complained to the manager (balding guy with glasses...didn't get his name) and all he could say was "sorry that happened" over and over again. I've worked many years in customer service oriented jobs and if a table had to wait 50 minutes for their food I would have said and done a lot more than just saying "sorry." I would have offered a discount or a free dessert for the inconvenience. Anything to make sure my customers enjoyed their time! When checking out I couldn't believe I was paying for that experience so I got the manager again and said I needed some type of reimbursement for the inconvenience. He was not happy about that and treated us very rude. He took some money off the final check. But he was passive aggressive in his tone about it and not a very professional manager. He couldn't genuinely see the situation for what it was and take responsibility (as a business.)

I am going to review my latest visit as I know they are better than this. First of all the food was great. It is the home style, sit down, stick to your ribs food I crave every now and then. Reminds me of grandma's house. Well sort of, grandma was a better cook. I had the roast beef. mash, cheesy grits, green beans and one of each biscuit. All very good. The service however, sucked. I don't know what it is about some places or servers. Maybe I am still used to Nevada with Vegas servers working it for the tip or maybe people here just expect the tip for being there. I've been gone from NV for over 7 years now soooooooo? First she (server) did not appear to be green behind the ears in any way. I think she was just lazy. I am not going to say her name, I don't want her in trouble. I am sure she needs the money. I don't know if she realizes she can get more by doing a better job though. I will just list the issues it will be easier. 1. Brings drinks that are spilling over the top. Makes mess on table and doesn't think twice about it. Never passes two of the 40 or so straws in her apron. 2. Comes to take order with no pen. Leaves to find one and comes back 5 minutes later. 3. Brings partial order. Says biscuits are in oven and will be 7 minutes. When asked where the butter and ranch are she says "oh, they didn't bring that to you?" Who is they? I'm pretty sure she just forgot it. 4. Shows up with butter and ranch AND RECEIPT 2 minutes later. Receipt? Gee, can I get half way through? Maybe I want desert! 5. Had to flag her for the other biscuits. She says still baking she will go check. It had been 7 minutes by this point. 6. Doesn't refill any drink ever. 7. Finally shows back up 20 minutes later with the biscuits. Says they were cooling. By now I have witnessed at least a dozen come out of the kitchen. Her story is BS. My wife has, by now, become pissed off and she has already decided her dinner sucked because of the service and she would be better off walking around the store. 8. Server needs to be trained! I don't need someone to kiss my ass but when you are working for tips you should be much more attentive to your guests. We tried to get the manager's attention but he avoided our section as the tables near us were on biscuit suspension apparently. My wife looked for him out front but he was a ghost. Usually the manager comes to each table to make sure all is good with your visit. Maybe he had the same trainer as our server?

When the food got to our table, the grits that came with my meal were cold. I then asked the waitress for some that weren't cold, she leaves without saying anything and brings back another side of grits and those were cold. I let her know that these ones were cold as well and she takes it back to the kitchen without a word. Then a random guy brought out another side of grits and guess what- those were cold too! How the crap do you bring out 3 orders of grits that are all cold as ice?! Do you not check before you serve it to see if what you are bringing out to costumers is actually warm?? He finally brought out the grits again after sticking them in the microwave. To top it off they forgot my order of hash browns. I'm not a picky eater and by no means am particular but I at least expect to have a warm meal and not one that's been sitting out.

Used to come here about once a month for breakfast with friends. The food is good, but not remarkable. The last couple of visits we all left asking ourselves why we keep coming back. The service just kept getting worse. The wait staff couldn't remember who ordered what and just didn't act like they cared. Too bad because I've been a big fan of the Chain since the 70's. There's an IHOP on the other side of the freeway......

They say that one's sense of smell is most likely to trigger memory. There is a certain smell that is unique to this place, and I'm immediately reminded of all things Cracker Barrel when I walk through the door. It's the familiar marriage of potpourri, candles, sugar, millions of nick-nacks, and whatever's cooking. Not to go unmentioned are the tell-tale slat rocking chairs on the "front porch." I've always found this so welcoming. I'm rarely not in a hurry, but someday I'm just going to sit down in one for a minute. They sell them, too. Like a casino, the front door dumps you into their Country Store. This is a place of wonder for me. I rarely buy anything here, but it's so much fun to look at their quaint and somewhat unique collections. My favorite is the Foods of the Past section; candies and other treats from various and sundry days of yore; or is it Yesteryear? I can never remember. Like the Neopolitan Coconut Slab, Peppermint Sticks, Horehound sucking candy, Beeman's and Clove gum, etc. There is so much to experience at the Cracker Barrel store, it almost warrants a separate review. However, I always wonder how much of their store inventory they really sell. Because 80% or so seems to be firmly stuck at a 1988 Nascar event. Now, on to the restaurant. Menu-wise, they strive to uphold the down-home country feel which is at their roots. Each meal event at Cracker Barrel is filled with food and decor reminding you of the intended experience. Each table is outfitted with their signature Peg Game (look it up, you'll recognize it). It's hours and hours of frustrating fun! They sell them in the store, too. Breakfast is definitely my favorite at Cracker Barrel. They produce some classics, including tasty pancake choices, their sinfully cheesy Hashbrown Casserole, bisquits & gravy and many egg/meat combinations. Everything I've tried has been good. I must admit I don't appreciate their *real* maple syrup, though. Not sure what it is, but it's not quite right. I'll stick with other pancake toppings here. The coffee is good here, too. I don't know what kind they serve, but I like it. It can be weak at times, which can depend on many things. If I do get a weak cup, by the time I round someone up and send it back, they're on to a new pot and I'm happy again. Their breakfast menu is vast, providing something for literally everyone. I could go on and on, but if you're into a comfort breakfast like Grandma would make you, this is a safe bet. Lunch and dinner menus are almost identical, with varying daily specials; portion size being the real difference. Highlights for me are their chicken & dumplings, grilled lemon pepper trout, chicken pot pie, and turkey dinner. They offer green beans as a side, and I can't help ordering them every time even though they are nothing like how I would typically like my green beans. Overcooked, loaded with butter, and soooo good! Their fish fry special on Fridays could probably kill you with the amount of oil used. But it's also pretty good. The salads are a bit light on the included protein, but are otherwise sizeable, if pretty standard for ingredients. On the topic of desserts at Cracker Barrel, I'm always too full to eat one...but I cannot resist taking home a piece (or seven) of their Coca-Cola Cake. This is a southern specialty that they've recently added to their permanent menu, and by all rights should be avoided by those unfamiliar with its tempting lusciousness. It's better not knowing how good this cake is. It's double chocolate flavor with a fudge icing. It has a slightly different twist that works; works really really well. It's such a treat like you'd find at a Georgia Women's Weekly bakesale. Other dessert deliciousness includes their daily fruit cobbler special. I've tried the peach and the cherry, and both were nice. But because I always get dessert to go, I don't get the benefit of the accompanying vanilla bean ice cream. The service here is usually decent. I've found it to be a bit of a crapshoot. They seem to have a lot of turnover which typically yields spotty service. In probably 20 visits here, we've never had service which required Management intervention, or a refund/free meal. Although it's like once-a-year occasional, I have a bit of a conflict being a Cracker Barrel customer. They decidedly promote the idea of the gluttonous super-sized American meal. Quantity and portion sizes are large here. The plate of bisquits alone is enough food for a small family. To their credit, Cracker Barrel is reasonably priced for the quality and amount of food they provide. However, I'm not sure anyone truly benefits from this. So, until they decide to bump up the health factor at Cracker Barrel, I'll continue to visit every now and then for a filling and sensory trip back to 1988.

Chicken and dumplings were bland and chewy. Mac and cheese was bleh, mashed potatoes some of the worst I've had with little flavor. French fries made me wish I had gone to Wendy's instead. Corn muffins got put down after one bland bite. 0/5 on all of my items. Not planning on returning.

I've eaten at a number of different Cracker Barrels over the years. This was one of the first times I didn't order breakfast. Instead I ordered the pecan salmon meal. It was a perfect light meal, but also very filling. Our waitress was new, but very knowledgeable and helpful. The staff member at the register was helpful, but she quickly let us know (without exact words) that she didn't enjoy working at Cracker Barrel, but it was just a way for her to make money and she couldn't wait to go home.

We stopped in for breakfast at the beginning of our trip. We had a group of 20. Our server immediately greeted us and informed us there was another very large group so our food might be a little slow. Not only was it not slow, it could've been considered fast, even for a small group. The server was fantastic! We couldn't have asked for a better experience!

I would like to rate higher but the food here is all out of a can. They used to have an excellent low carb menu but removed it in the last year. Everything else is rubbish starches and carbage. Staff is meh and the hokey store you have to walk through in and out is both expensive and junky. I love the idea of home cooking but CB just fails to pull it off food quality-wise.

So...breakfast. Seems pretty easy. We have been here before so we know not to order the hashbrown diaster, its just not to our taste. Hostess was friendly. Waitress took our drink order. Coffee ~ him, sweet tea ~ me. Him ~ coffee is gross, tastes like dirty water. I am squeezing my lemon in my tea, eager for some real sweet tea. I taste it. Tastes like weak dirty water with lemon. Gross. He doctors his coffee. I send mine back. I refuse to ever drink crap tea. Bad start for the food runner who has brought us our food. Because when she returns with my new drink, I let her know she forgot my applebutter. Poor thing. Our waitress was on point. She came to check on us with another drink glass for me. The service here is always fine. The food is what it is. Do not expect gourmet food at a place called Cracker Barrel. But don't screw up the coffee and the tea. I would love one of the rocking chairs that they sell out front. The attached shop is a lot of fun to wander through also.

Three of us had breakfast here Oct. 16, 2014. Probably the worst food we've ever experienced. How can cooks ruin oatmeal? Even the eggs were pitiful. I would avoid this place!

If you've been to one Cracker Barrel, you've been to them all. The lay-out is always the same with kitschy stuff all over the walls, old time candies in the store and the rocking chairs out front. Country home cookin' is what they do best. We stopped here for breakfast on our trip down from the mountains and had a very nice meal. I stuffed myself something fierce. Our waiter was absolutely fantastic as well, I think his name was William. Super sweet and accommodating, even when I wanted to change something with my order. I had the chicken fried chicken with eggs and the hash brown casserole. I sure do love that hash brown casserole! It's just so cheesy and gooey, I can't resist. Eggs were cooked perfectly over easy with nice and runny yolks and the chicken was fairly basic, a boneless cutlet fried like...chicken! Almost all the dishes come with sides like the casserole or fried apples along with grits, biscuits and gravy. You'll have a hard time leaving this place anything but stuffed!

The food was pretty good, but the service was mixed. We had to wait quite a while during a slow period to get seated despite several people looking at us, including the person who seated us eventually. The waitress was great, however. The blueberry pancakes were great, muffin fair. The coffee was not great. The store was overwhelming with too much junky looking stuff. The bathrooms should be cleaner.

Love it! Take home some Sweet Potato Pancakes! Delicious! And if you are dining in, the chicken fried chicken is amazing! All the food taste like its home made in the south. Service is good to. They are quick and get you in and out.

I remember when going to Cracker Barrel was like... a cool thing to do. It's a unique place, but as time has gone, from UT, to OK to PA, all my Cracker Barrel experiences have been subpar. I went here on 10/15/11 with Wesley C. and Jason T. as we were driving home from Las Vegas. I wanted to go to the Copper Onion, but it was an hour out of the way, and Wesley wanted Cracker Barrel so... that's where we all went. We all ordered the same thing - the chicken and dumpling platter (but this one offered meat loaf as well.) BLAND. Awfully bland. Chicken & dumplings, meat loaf, and macaroni and cheese for about $9. Talk about carb overload. It was one of the most unsatisfying meals I've ever had. Our waiter, Jacobi, gave us one water refill, but other than that, was unseen. When our check was dropped off, we sat there waiting for him to pick up the cards, but he didn't. After waiting for a good 5-10 minutes, I finally got up and went to the front to ask where we needed to pay. Yep, we needed to pay right there. Ugh. I'm not going back.

This is a mandatory stop for us on our yearly road trip to Idaho each summer. We love it! Kinda hesitant about the name since "cracker" has been corrupted into a racial slur, but if you just look past that it is a great restaurant. It has a such a quaint country feel to it, it even has handmade rocking chairs on the front porch (for sale). The front of the building is a store with little knick knacks for sale, then in the back is the restaurant. The food is delicious and the strawberry lemonade is a must. They also have a cute peg game on every table to keep you entertained while you wait (for sale again). A must for tourists.

Cracker Barrel is my Utah breakfast spot because they serve reasonably priced yet sizable portions and the customer service is very good, sometimes annoyingly so. I usually eat here on Saturday mornings and it has always been very busy. But, I've never once had to wait to be seated and the food comes quickly and it is friggin' delicious!! I usually go with the multi-grain pancakes which comes with your choice of sausage or bacon and 2 eggs prepared to your specifications. I love their maple syrup too. Also, I don't think I've ever not added a side of their hash brown casserole because it jives incredibly well with my taste buds. The service is and always has been very good. Sometimes they ask "how is everything" a few times too many, but I really don't mind that because all they're trying to do is provide a good experience that will encourage future visits. Also, I like that I can pay up front and not have to wait around for the server to do it. Basically, it's obvious during my visits that they're really trying hard to provide excellent customer service. I highly recommend anyone looking for a great breakfast spot to hit up Cracker Barrel. As a side note, My 2-year-old daughter thoroughly enjoys eating breakfast at Cracker Barrel.

The service was not the best. We got seated and 10 min later our waitress came. The meal I ordered was supposedly unavailable. Then they came back saying it was available but I was already fed up and didn't want it. We told them no thanks then they show up with that meal. We turned it away and we get our bill and they charged us for it. Our waitress went missing so we had to ask another waitress to find her. I will not be returning, this isn't the first time this type of thing has happened. The third time isn't the charm in this situation. I'm done with Cracker Barrel!

Great food, friendly staff, and good prices. Even on crowded evenings we are seated quickly, and receive great service. They offer great comfort food that doesn't break the bank.
