So the other day, I decided to try out Thai on the Fly because I had a buy one, get one free coupon. As another reviewer had correctly noted, it is in an industrial area (some would even say seedy). It is well tucked away between all the mega factories and if you don't drive slow enough (as in crawl like an ant), chance is, you will probably miss it. It is VERY small and blends into the environment VERY well. With that said, however, the quality of the food was not bad at all. I ordered a panang curry and a kwai deo. Since it is my experience that Thai restaurants in Salt Lake do not put enough spice in the food to make it authentic (dumbing down for "Westerners," I guess), I decided to specify medium spicy. Boy, was that a mistake! (Well, not a "mistake," just a "miscalculation.") When I got home and tried out the curry, it was pretty intense, and when I got to the kwai deo, OMG! I nearly DIED! If this was considered 3 out of 5, then I could not even imagine what 5 would be like. (Probably inedible for me?) But that just shows that just because they are tucked away, they brand themselves as a Thai FAST FOOD place, and the prices are cheaper than most other gourmet Thai restaurants, it doesn't mean they cannot go the direction of authentic. Plus, the cooking staff were VERY accommodating, and while the sign outside said free apple salad IF you dine in, they let me take it to go anyway. Very, very nice! Oh, and even if you don't have a coupon, there is NOTHING on the menu over $10...which is a diamond in the rough in Salt Lake... I just hope that given all the mega factories over there, they derive a lot of their business from the folks who work in those factories. Because I can hardly imagine too many people from the residential areas of Salt Lake going "out of their way" to come here, unless they're die hard fans of AUTHENTIC Thai food like myself! :)
