I was hesitant to give this place another shot, since me first experience wasn't the best (food poisoning). This place is great! I had the steak burrito salad with all the fixings. I was surprised it was $11, that seems a bit expensive. Maybe the guacamole was like $2 for the two scoops. Not sure. But the place was quick, clean, the food was fresh and the service was great. I'd say if you combined Cafe Rio with Chipotle, you'd get Barbacoa. It's not quite authentic Mexican food, but it's sure delicious. I think might start eating here more often.

Went here today with some guys from work. This is your typical big wrap burrito place, with rice and beans, your type of meat (grilled chicken, shredded pork, etc.), cheese, lettuce, sour cream and salsas. You can also opt for a burrito bowl, or soup. I love large wrapped burritos so that was a no-brainer choice. There is nothing that really makes this chain special, it's certainly no better than Chipotle. However, it is a locally-owned chain, so if that matters to you, pick this over the corporate competitor. If you like this style of food, and what sane person doesn't, you'll most likely walk away satisfied. The food is fresh and tasty, and they give you an ample amount of it. The restaurant is clean and the service is prompt. If you're in the neighborhood, this is certainly a viable option.

Very good food but $8.28 for a steak burrito! Come on guys your pricing yourselves out of the market. With a drink and tax it came to $11.08! I know of good sit down restaurants for that price with a tip.

This is like Chipotle but not as good. Pro's: - Fast decent food Con's: - Poor and misleading customer service (see tips section below) Tips: - Do not add Queso's to your burrito when they ask. * It costs an extra ~$1 which they don't tell you when they ask. * You might as well add avocado which is healthier and more cost-effective. - Do not get a tortilla with your burrito BOWL when they ask. * It costs an extra ~$1 which they don't tell you when they ask. * I thought it was free when I was getting a burrito bowl because hey, I'm getting a burrito in a bowl but still want my tortilla on the side. So it should be free right? WRONG.

Said I wanted to "try" the beef, but instead she loaded my bowl with beef. Asked if I wanted guacamole and some more salsa on my bowl and in turn charged me for every single item without telling me it was an extra charge. The beef was OK at best. Won't come back. Not friendly. Poor communication.

For the most part the food was not bag. The meat and rice were both tasty. However, the guacamole was the worst I've ever tasted! I have never had guacamole that tasted sour before, it was awful. Either they used avacados that had gone bad, or they just left the guacamole out until it went bad. I might haven given 4 stars of it wasn't for the awful guacamole stopping me from eating any of the food it touched. Another problem I had was the place looked very trashy inside. I don't like eating at places that don't look well maintained.

Honestly, I thought this place was pretty good. Obviously the recipes are similar but different from Chipotle or Cafe Rio. Just depends on what you prefer. The burrito I had was great. The costumer service was wonderful, and my husband and I had a buy one get one free deal because we have the Wasatch Savings card. So overall, we both had a pleasant experience.

This place is bad, just really, really bad. I've always wondered why there is never very many diners there, and I think I know why. It's just bad. If the food is bad, people just aren't going to dine there, it's just that simple. Not really in the mood for any thing else, I decided to give it it's due, and quite frankly I wished I hadn't. It's twenty bucks I wish I could get back and spend elsewhere.

Why I Went I go to Barbacoa frequently only because it's walking distance from school. What I Like about Barbacoa vs. Chipotle Whole wheat Tortilla Option: Not offered at chipotle and I always order it. Burrito Mixed Option: After your order is made the burrito engineer neatly mixes the ingredients together so the flavors and textures get a chance to homogenize. This makes each bite better and more evenly distributed. I think you could get this at Chipotle on request but this is standard operating procedure at Barbacoa. Wrapped Taco option: Honestly I have now started ordering this more than the burrito. This is like the old school Taco Bell Cheesy Gordita Crunch on crack. For an extra 99 cents per taco they melt cheese on soft taco shells and wrap them around crunchy taco shells. The texture contrast and flavor is indescribable you have to try this next time you go it is DEFINITELY worth the extra 99 cents. More Meat Options: Chipotle only has chicken steak carnitas barbacoa a new sofrito option. Barbacoa has two types of pork (Barbacoa Pork/Sweet Pork(Myfavorite)) Two Types of Chicken (Shredded Mango Chicken/Grilled Chicken) Barbacoa beef and steak. Better Portions: Chipotle is usually pretty stingy especially with meat but Barbacoa usually gives you more meat and just more generous with portions overall. I'm always full when I leave. What Chipotle does better than Barbacoa Better flavor overall Fajita Vegetables: Not offered at Barbacoa and my favorite part of Chipotle Rice: Chipotle offers brown rice and even the normal rice is hella better at chipotle than at barbacoa Better salsas: Although Barbacoa has queso I still prefer the hot salsa and tomatillo salsa at chipotle. The hot salsa at Barbacoa has too strong of a vinegar flavor and overpowers the other toppings. The corn salsa is also much better at chipotle. Things I dislike about both places GET MORE COMFORTABLE SEATS! Cut to the Chase 4 Stars Although I still I prefer Chipotle flavor wise I still think Barbacoa deserves props for their innovation.

It's Barbacoa. Have a bunch of pre-cooked food under a heat lamp and thrown into a tortilla then wrapped in foil. But you know what, it's not bad. It gets the job done. When you hold one of these things in your hand and think that in a little bit that entire bullet of food will be in your stomach it makes me question my manhood.

As a longtime Chipotle fan, I'm happy with my first time Barbacoa experience but not overly impressed. $12.58 for a salad & beverage. Good flavor, customizable options, and got me full. Can't say I'll ever choose this over its competitor but because they're next to our new office building, I'm satisfied enough to come back out of convenience.

I work across the street, so we end up eating here fairly often. They are a fairly new place, however the customer service never seems to improve. It's always an awkward experience in line as they serve your food, as well as with the check out. They seem to not have a good system in place, and half the time there is some error in the receipt. As for the food, it's prety medicore, particularly their vegetarian options. Instead of meat, they offer cold vegetables as a substitute, which are never chopped enough. The people I'm eating with usually get the meat options, with some pretty gnarly results. The portions are also off as well. You usually get about three tablespoons of the good stuff, and a cup or two of rice. To be brutally honest, each time we eat there, my office-mates and I swear it's the last time. Until they get it together, I don't think I'll be back.

The original big burritos company in Northern Utah! Fantastic burritos and burrito bowls. If you're not hungry bring a friend and share because a burrito here weighs about 3 pounds. Love the grilled chicken.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
