This is our favorite restaurant for Chinese take out!

Ma and pa. Their son used to ride his bike back and forth on the sidewalk in front of their shop. This place is a very good example of Americanized Chinese food. Quality ingredients, good portions and fast/friendly service. Lunch specials are very reasonably priced. Consistent. I used to work next door and went there often. It's not worth a drive across the valley but if you like Panda, you'll love Mandarin Garden! There have been a lot of owners over the years. My guess is these people are here to stay!

I have been addicted to this place ever since discovering it! I love the dinner combos and the variety - soup, pot stickers, egg roll, fried shrimp, fried rice, and entree for around 10 bucks! Always enough food that I have leftovers. Only thing I haven't enjoyed was the hot and sour soup (which I usually love). But that's ok because the egg drop is delicious!

Excellent Chinese food. The food was not overly oily and too salty. We had the green beans, Lo Mein noodles and pork fried rice. They were all very tasty

We love the dinner combos and pretty much everything here. We are never disappointed and we're so glad this restaurant is close to home.

Pretty standard family style Chinese restaurant. Food is pretty good and quality across the board, but nothing is really memorable. I recommend the hot and sour soup which is heartier than others in the area and their lo mein which is happily not a greasy mess! Service could be better. The boy who served us had an attitude like he'd rather be any where else. He never smiled. We heard him argue with another patron. The girl at the counter was really pleasant and talked with everyone. They should switch duties.

I've only tried the seafood delight and it was so salty. I would prefer the one from red maple in taylorsville. I'm willing to try more things from them but the three stars is for the slight mistake in customer service. As I was handing my card to the lady, a customer comes up and tells her that their table had a spill and asked if there was any extra napkins for them to clean it up. Instead of taking the 5 seconds to swipe my card and giving me the receipt so I can be on my way, she tells me to hold on and leaves me to go clean up the spill. I was slighty upset and irritated by that. The lady should have finished my transaction first then helped the other customers. Not the best customer service.

We live close by so we order take out about once a week from here. The food is pretty good. Chicken and string beans, General Taos chicken, and sesame chicken are our favorites. The Wantons are also awesome. Very consistent from a night to night basis.

I am a faithful weekly customer here because the food is always reliably delicious and fresh, and the prices for lunch combos are such a great deal. They even let you order lunch combos on Saturdays, which not all restaurants let you do. Huge plus in my book. The owners are fabulous and attentive. They get to know you quick when you become a repeating customer, and I have a feeling they have no shortage of those. My menu favorites are the orange beef (heavenly!), walnut shrimp, orange chicken, general tao's chicken, sesame beef, and lemon chicken (the lemon sauce is to die for..so good!). Come here!

When the owner knows you and your order by memory and its not even an on the menu item, you know the service is good. Plus their broccoli is heaven in your mouth.

I thought this place tasted great! Prices were very reasonable and they don't use MSG. Will be back again.

CHINESE GET IN MY BELLY For what it is, this place rocks! Stuff your face lunch combos for under $10? You betcha. Honestly, I'd pay more for this quality of food. I went in for lunch yesterday by myself and was immediately greeted and seated by friendly waitstaff. My server was more than willing to accommodate my request for shrimp with vegetables, and my egg drop soup came out quickly after I placed my order. I could see how the egg drop soup might have an unappealing consistency for the average American palate, but I found it to be quite tasty. Next time I'll try the hot & sour. In the same respect, I loved the sweet and creamy dressing that came on my salad, but I could see how some might find the flavour off putting. My bento box also came with two deep fried gyoza and an egg roll. I have yet to find a better egg roll in Utah. The shrimp and veggies came in a typical and tasty chinese brown sauce. Instead of canned mushrooms, fresh ones were used!! Gasp!! Loved it. The fresh watermelon was a fabulous touch to top off my lunch. Well done Mandarin Garden!!! Don't forget to tip your server. If you can afford $8 for sit down lunch, you can afford to tip the waitstaff an extra $5.

After a few more visits, I discovered some more fascinating dishes. I really like their Pot Sticker, the flour skins were handmade at the right thickness, and the ingredients inside gives a very nice balanced flavour. The owners have root from northern China, which is a region with many pot stickers and dumplings traditions. You may have to call in first, but certain days of the week, they can serve a dish of sole fish fillet in a special sauce, which is a tasty cooked fish dish. The dishes with string beans and tofu are still among my top choices. This is still a very convenience location for Chinese food if you live around this neighbourhood.

The food here is generally better than what you can get elsewhere in Utah as far as Chinese goes. You might be able to find a dish that is better elsewhere, but if you haven't picked a no nonsense favorite at another Chinese place then this is a very safe bet. Without a doubt though, Mandarin Garden has the best orange beef in Utah. If you get pot stickers the normal are better than the deep fried. Also, the combos are a good value. I would eat here on a very regular basis if I lived in that area.

I'm grading 3 of 5, and that's being harsh. The staff is friendly, the food is pretty good. Nothing I've had is terrible. 4 stars would be me saying it was something really good, better than most. 5 would be me taken by surprise with how good and unique the food is. If you're just looking for some good Chinese food, it's perfect. If you want really good, or something special, I'd look for something else.

Tried this place recently for the first time and got take-out, the true test of any Chinese food... Does it travel? Absolutely yes it does! Cream-cheese wontons, still crunchy and well done not greasy. Sesame beef, tender and excellent flavor. Ham fried rice light, but not mushy not greasy at all. All-in-all the best place on the south end of the valley I've found for a long time, we gave up on Chinese all-together until now.

We have eaten here several times since Dec. 2010 both in the restaurant and takeout. As noted there have been several owners here - but the current owners have it right! Food is flavorful and well prepared - even after the trip back to the house. Our typical are the Kung Pao Chicken, Beef with Green Beans - and for the kids the lemon chicken works out quite well. This has been a pleasant surprise - especially since we live nearby. We would definitely recommend to others.

We live nearby, so we have been here at least 10 times over the past 4 months. The food has always been good, and by good I mean better than the Mandarin in Bountiful which I used to consider the best Chinese in Utah. I have tried virtually everything on the menu. I have never been disappointed with the food (I have NOT tried the fried appetizers, however). In fact I am usually gushing over how good this sauce or that sauce is. My only complaint about Mandarin Garden is the service. If they are not super busy, it is fantastic. If they are busy, the wait can be pretty long and they will not be fast about refilling your drinks. The service has never been close to bad, just not fantastic all the time. We will continue to go here whenever we crave great Chinese food!

Just eating here now upon the recommendation of my sister. This place has been a revolving door for new names and ownership since i've lived in Salt lake, it was first a ho ho Gormet which I really liked and most in between have been pretty lousy. My sister claims that it is now really good and so I thought I would give it a try. I have just finished my hot and sour soup which was pretty good and a order of creamcheese wontos which were excellent and my course, a plate of pon pon chicken was just placed in front of me. It is actually realld good and tastes very fresh. The fried rice is delicious but not a huge fan of the egg roll. My waitress, who is also the hostess, is very attentative and has kept my glass full, although because she is alone im not too sure what it would be like if me and one other person weren't the only people here. It looks very nice inside, very clean and pretty good decor. The price is very good for how much you get and it was overall berry tasty and fresh. I will probably come back if im anywhere around here but not sure I would go out of my way to stop in.

Great Chinese food is hard to find in Utah. This place is the best. They are friendly, service is great. It is a great place for lunch or dinner. Prices are average for your typical sit-down Chinese restaurant. The food always has lots of flavor, and fresh ingredients. It comes out nice and hot. It is easy to request more or less spice if you like it spicier or less spicy. Our favorites are Orange Beef, Chicken Lettuce Wraps, Pon Pon Chicken.

We love the Mandarin Garden. Every time we go we know we will get good food and great service. The atmosphere is very pleasant, quiet, and clean. We love the walnut shrimp, but I usually get the moo goo gai pan since it is loaded with lots of fresh veggies and is, quite, simply, the best I have ever had. Everything we have tried has been very good. They have an especially tasty house dressing on their green salads. The only reason I am not rating it as a 5 star restaurant is because if I am craving ham fried rice, I will opt for Chin-Wah. Mandarin Garden has very good fried rice, but Chin-Wah's is superior. Mandarin Garden, however, beats Chin-Wah on everything else.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
