Mexican Cuisine
If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.

Compared to all the other americanized Mexican restaurants scattered throughout the strip malls of our valley, La Costa is at the 78th percentile, just barely in the upper quartile, with a T-score of about 58.

La Costa is an authentic Mexican restaurant with great food and large portions. When dining in they give you chips, amazing salsa, and refried beans. Today I ordered the 3 item lunch special. Many choices but I ordered the 3 enchiladas, one chile verde, one chile colorado, and one shredded beef. They came with rice and beans. Smothered in different cheeses. Wow! Just WOW!

Summary: - Good food - Mediocre service Explanation: I usually love coming to La Costa, but today might have been one of those few sour times, so take this review for what it's worth. Food was good as usual, but our service was mediocre. It's a Mexican restaurant that, for the most part, hires Mexican workers (which is probably a good idea). But they can be hard to understand sometimes, and today was one of those times. I asked our server to repeat the choices of meat for my burrito, and he rolled his eyes at me and sighed like I was hard of hearing. I want to give this experience a 2-star review, but I'll give our server the benefit of the doubt (he was probably having a bad day since he had to work on Labor Day). I will return to this place, but the employees need to understand that there will be times where they have to repeat themselves due to their accent.

My husband and I ate at La Costa one hour ago and are both "run to the bathroom" sick. I don't know if it was the guacamole, fish tacos, or spinach enchilada because we shared everything, but SOMETHING had an adverse effect on us. NEVER EVER going back!!
(1)Mike H.
the food is okay, but the service is usually bad. seemingly no matter when one purchases one's food via telephone, the person who takes the order says that the order will be done in ten or fifteen minutes. Without fail, upon arrival to pick up and pay for the food, they won't even have started. of course they're usually only young adults working the counter, but it's still disappointing when you're starving and you have to wait twice for your food - once when you call and once when you arrive to pick it up.

This is one of my favorite Mexican restaurants, its always been consistently good,I dont venture off the menu to far because I love my shredded beef chimichanga, but I have tried other items on the menu, the la costa burrito is good and the chile verde is top notch.I love the chips and salsa with the refried beans, and margaritas are a must here!!!
(4)Charlotte S.
Ok this was delicious. They accommodated our party of 17outside comfortably. I ordered the sangria because the waitress told me it had fresh fruit. She lied, it had one tiny orange slice and a couple canned cherries. My fiend ordered a delicious mojito and graciously traded me. They offered ample chips and fresh salsa. I ordered the fish tacos and was seriously impressed. The fish was fresh tasting, cooked to perfection, and was just barely seasoned. So yummy!!! Our waitress graciously charged each one of us separate checks.

Every time my wife and I come to La Costa I am always pleased with the food and service. Large portions and authentic food!
(5)Austin H.
This is my families favorite restaurant. We go here at least once a week. We absolutely love it here. Some of the waiters even know our orders by heart. They have great costumer service. I have never received my food after ordering as quick as I have here. I usually receive it with in 5 minutes. Seriously, I don't know how they cook it so fast. I love their chips and and salsa which comes with an amazing bean dip. I could eat the bean dip and chips and be completely content. I normally order the carne Asada which is to die for, but everything I have ordered here has been great. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone. Just thinking about it makes my mouth water. I can't wait to go back! Love love love this restaurant!

My fave Mexican in Utah. You can't go wrong with this place, service every time I've been has been right on par. Don't forget to try the fried ice cream!!
(5)Mike Z.
Ordered the 3 taco platter that are street taco style. It came with rice and beans. I had one chicken, one steak, and one pork taco. I liked the pork the best. Salsa and bean dip were okay- although a bit bland for my tastes. The dinner was good, but I felt it over priced for what I received. 3 tacos beans and rice for 17.25 including tax. Seems a bit high..

For a Mexican restaurant in Sandy it's not all That bad. I say this becouse when it comes to Mexican food here in salt lake or Utah county there's not a lot of places that meet true mark. So I ordered the Chile Reno's and they came out as more chilie Reno omlets but they were still decent and the rice and beans were good as well. Staff and atmosphere were pretty nice we sat out on the patio which was really nice.
(4)Dean W.
The salsa had roasted tomatoes...oh so good! Chips, salsa & bean dip served complimentary. Tacos & enchilada plate was good. Service was fast. Would definitely return.
(5)Mrs. Mischelle H.
We had a great lunch here recently. The restaurant is very clean, and there are some lovely murals. We thought the atmosphere was very classy for a strip mall restaurant. The food was delicious. We were impressed with the fire roasted tomatoes in the salsa, and that we were also served refried beans with the chips. The Chimichangas were pretty small, but crispy and meaty, The Chile Rellenos were very eggy. Our server was friendly and attentive. This experience will bring us back, even tough it's not in our neighborhood.
(3)Vida A.
I didnt think this place was good in the old spot and it's the same in the new. Place is big and clean with a nice bar. Chips and salsa and bean dip were the best thing I had. Lunch specials are cheap but so are the portions. You will not be taking any left overs here. My smothered enchilada lacked the smothered part. Rice was al dente and beans looked like from a can. Service was very friendly.

Excellent Mexican restaurant! While visiting my husband's family for the holidays, my dad and I decided to keep our Mexican tradition of tamales on Christmas Eve alive! I called them up at 6pm to see if they were still open and they said they would be open until 7, and yes, they did serve tamales! Being a Los Angeles native I was a little apprehensive about Mexican food in Utah, but they really delivered up some delicious tamales! The service was also excellent, the salsa and chips quite good, and the ambiance was nice. Menu prices were average for a Mexican restaurant. Will definitely be returning again! Thanks La Costa for helping us keep holiday tradition alive!
(5)Patrick M.
Well going out with co workers had sounded like a good idea but coming here just ruined the whole experience. From the get go the staff has proven that incompetence can be a lifestyle. We chose to eat at the bar big mistake! Seeing how it is the center of the incompetence universe here. No service no drinks crap food when it's finally brought to us. I would not recommend this establishment to my worst enemy. Giving one star because a negative is not allowed!!
(1)M M.
Stay away. Worst Mexican in SLC. Soup and the chicken fajitas sucked and my server asked me if I needed change on 37$ while paying with a 100$ bill? Of course I need change, I'd also like a server who can speak English.
(1)Christopher M.
I was introduced to this place by a business associate. I was pleasantly surprised by the great service I received and quality of food served. Chips were served warm with fresh salsa.
(5)Greg S.
If you want good, simple Mexican food, come here. The food is tasty. Guacamole is great. Enchiladas are scrumptious. Most of all, the customer service is excellent. You don't find service like this at most restaurants. Definitely will be back.
(5)Mark W.
If Yelp had half-stars I'd give La Costa. 4 1/2. I've been here several times and it has been consistently the best Mexican food experience I've had in Utah. The service is very good. Maybe not always overtly friendly, but always very professional and never bad. Ambience is comfortable and authentic. There is usually a soccer game on the TV in the bar The food is well prepared and tasty. I always have one of the combos and everything I've had is very good. The salsa is a bit on the mild side (I prefer spicier) but also very tasty. The margaritas are well made and not too sweet. I can actually taste the ingredients rather than an over-sugary mix that is common at a lot of places. If you like Mexican, I highly recommend.
(4)Chantel H.
Great chips and salsa and a very friendly staff! I enjoyed the bean and cheese burritos. It's a very traditional Mexican restaurant.
(3)Ryan L.
Hadn't been here in a long time and came back for dinner on Saturday. It really hit the spot and was even better than I remembered. First of all, why doesn't every other Mexican restaurant have beans with their chips and salsa? That stuff is perfect. I could've (and almost did) fill up on it before the meal came. I got a shredded beef chimichanga and chile relleno, which were both pretty good. Large portion sizes, and the food came out relatively quickly. The service is always very friendly, and the restaurant is nice and clean. It's great food that was exactly what I was looking for, so I'll be headed back next time I'm hankering for some Mexican food.
(4)Ken V.
A large menu with a very middle-of-the-road product. Good place to go if you are in a hurry, because our entrees arrived in scary-fast proximity to placing the order.
(3)Brett Z.
Food is decent, but really nothing to go out of your way for. The menu is pretty generic and nothing that really catches the eye. It's just your regular old sit down Mexican American restaurant. However, the service is great (both friendly and quick). End of the day, I would try something else if I were you.
(3)Todd H.
Not bad.... Not great. A decent stop for an americanized version of Mexican food. The chips and salsa were pretty good. I had 2 chimichangas that were decent. My wife had an enchilada verde that was a bit on the skimpy side. Service was good and was fast. I would stop again for a quick lunch, but this place is not going to blow your socks off....
(3)Kenny R.
My wife and I had the pleasure of eating here yesterday, she had the carne asada I had the chimichanga platter. Now my wife is from guanajuato and I am the luckiest man in the world to have amazing pasole, tacitos, etc. at home, But I have to say if we do not feel like cooking, I can assure you this is where we will be eating from now on. Thank you guys for a wonderful meal.
(5)Ben F.
I love the Carne Asada. We also love getting the re-fried beans and salsa to go. We stock up on it at home for nachos and burritos.
(4)Tom S.
Nice, clean place. I had the enchiladas. The portion was very small and just average. The complimentary chips and salsa also includes beans, the same beans that come with your meal. Thought they could change that up a bit. Nothing special. Not cheap. Service was good.
(3)J W.
Courteous staff, attractive decor and convenient location. The food was only so-so, but if quantity is what you're after, by all means, go-for-it. My quesadilla plate was a meal, but arrived only luke warm. Though the menu price was $9.25, I was charged $11.75 and told afterward that the carne asada carried a $2.50 surcharge. With so much competition, I would not return.
(2)Lindsey K.
Good. A little pricey, but I always find my self coming back. The pollo la costa is great.
(4)Tonia E.
Authentic and delicious Mexican food in Sandy. I love the atmosphere. The dining experience made us miss Mexico! Great salsa, green sauce, bean dip and shredded beef! Trying the fish tacos next time.
(5)Lori H.
Been here a couple of times now and it's consistantly good. The first time, I had the shrimp and this last time the spinach enchilada. The chips and salsa are hands down some of the best. I love the smokiness of the salsa and those beans are good too. I usually mix them. Minus one star for the one creepy waiter dude who kept staring. Eeewww
(4)Alex G.
While I've been a habitual Yelp user for some time this is my first review. Unfortunately it is not a positive one. I was inspired to write this review after tasting some of the WORST Mexican food I've ever had in my life!! Where to begin?.....I had a combination plate with a flauta and cheese enchilada. I chose this combo because I felt these items were a safe choice for trying out this restaurant for the first time. It's really hard to mess up such simple, traditional Mexican dishes. However, somehow the team at La Costa managed to not only destroy these dishes but did so in what seems like an intentional manner! The flautas we're more like soggy, flavorless mini chimichangas and the enchilada sauce was something out of a can and mixed with contaminated tap water! Everything was so flavorless and not even CLOSE to being authentic Mexican food!! I'm Hispanic, born and raised in Tucson, AZ so I know a thing or two about good Mexican food and La Costa you fell way below what the standard is. Everyone beware and steer clear of this place!! I have NO idea how they have sustained a 4-star rating?? I would've taken stars away if at all possible!
(1)R S.
I have visited a few times. The standout dishes are the Carne Asada Platter and Carnitas Platter. A little pricey but the portions are large and cooked to perfection. I like the beans and salsa with chips they start you off with. Tacos and Burritos are also good. Margaritas are good and they usually have some drink specials going on. Larger restaurant that can accommodate larger groups. Good location with easy access. Great staff and Manager.
(4)Hailey W.
We quite liked it! Good place to come with our toddler. Good beers available and helpful waitstaff (or at least ours was).
(4)Adam H.
Fabuloso!!! I was very nervous about going here, but was overly impressed. Amazing food and amazing service. We never had to wait to ask our waiter for refills and he was excellent. The food came out on huge plates and it was delicioso! This has definitely won a place in my stomach and I will be a long time repeat customer. Muchisimas gracias la costa!!!
(5)M K.
Fresh, Flavorful. Amazing. Simply the best Mexican Restaurant in the Salt Lake Valley if not all of Utah.
(5)Xinmiao L.
Our favorite Mexican restaurant. Cheap, really delicious Mexican food, and great service. Oh god, I can eat their chip and the bean dipping sauce all day long (maybe that explains how i gained weight. Lol). It is just so good! We are kind boring here because we only order enchiladas everytime we ate there. Also we do love their flan dessert. Because it is not the typical sweet sweet and heavy flan to me. The service is always great here.
(5)Mike O.
Those chips... That salsa... They do this bean dip that you'll want to ask for a spoon and eat it like soup! They'll bring you all you can eat. Carnitas is my favorite. The daily lunch specials can't be beat. What a success story! Benito started out years ago across the street in this humble, little, awkward space in the "Sandy Mall." They've since moved into a new and much improved location. You don't see as many of the same old faces you once saw. Service isn't nearly as warm and friendly. Quality and consistency is slowly becoming a vestige of the "good old days." The cost of those free chips, salsa and bean dip have been considerably padded into the entrées. I don't go here any more. Neither do some of my colleagues. Call it a silent protest. Perhaps it's nostalgia. A longing for a glint of recognition in the eye of the servers or bus persons. Maybe it's a judgmental expectation that they could give more back to the community that's made them what they are.
(4)Jennifer M.
Fantastic Mexican food! My family has been coming here for the last 3 years and they have never let us down. I could eat their chips, salsa and beans all day, every day. We love the carne asada, bacon wrapped shrimp and tacos la costa. The enchilada sauce is perfect. The staff is friendly and attentive. I highly recommend La Costa!
(5)Josh W.
Food was pretty good, but it seemed over priced for what you get.
(3)Tony L.
I stumbled upon this place during my search for another Sunday restaurants... special thanks to Charles S for the picture. You know a place is on the authentic side when you walk in seeing a majority of the diners are from that same region. The place has a nice Mexican Fiesta feel to it, and seating is not crowded. There are TVs all over the restaurant too. This is actually the first place I have been to that served beans along with chips and salsa for starter, and the beans actually worked well with the chips. I went with the Chimichanga "Jarocha" ($12.15), which included "Real" crabmeat, shrimp, onion, tomato, some cream sauce, sour cream, and guacamole. I also asked for the "spiciest" sauce they got in house on the side. The Chimichanga was delicious, the crabmeat and shrimp created a very nice flavor together inside a properly made deep-fried burrito, and everything was still moist and nice inside. The sauce was excellent, it was a very tasty and spicy habanero red salsa, and could have gone well with chips. I feel like La Costa is one of the overlooked restaurants in Sandy, especially within an area I dined multiple times before. Despite having a large group, our service was never lacking or behind, and we will definitely return for another round.
(4)Nicole J.
Been going here for 12 years since they were located close to where they are now. They have great food and great service. They have never disappointed us and always are very accommodating to my 3 young kids.
(5)Sean J.
La Costa, you've broken my heart for the last time. I'm afraid it's over between us. This time it is you, not me. We've been off and on since the day you opened and this time it's for real. You know I love your chips and salsa and great service. I forgave you for switching from Pepsi. But your food? Well... It's just not doing it for me anymore. Last night I went back to rekindle the flame with your chile relleno and tamale which were simply awful. You made La Frontera-Gloria's-Fountain or whatever those abominations call themselves look like world beaters. It is with much sadness that I say we are over...
(2)Kari B.
Finally found a decent Mexican restaurant in Utah. The salsa they serve is so delicious. Not the average runny water like substance you usually find. Big chunks. And so flavorful. They also give you beans with your chips, which was a bonus. Enchiladas were great. Tamale came with a mole sauce. Overall very good.
(4)Sarah M.
Great food and excellent service every time! Everyone here is always extremely accommodating and kind and the salsa and beans never fail to be super fresh and tasty!
(5)meg s.
Me and my husband love this restaurant and have definitely become La Costa weekly regulars! I actually crave it! My husband lived in Mexico and thinks this is a great find for Mexican food! I love the Steak Fajitas Lacosta and they have an awesome Chimichanga! Service is fast and the food is always hot! Chips salsa and beans delightful! Prices- Good for the amount of food you get! If you are looking to save money they offer combo platters where you can choose 2 items so if you and a date both love Chimichangas you can get 2 for almost the same price as one only adding a couple $! There are alot of great options! All the desserts are delicious! Fried Icecream and sopapias are my favorite!
(5)Marcia T.
Excellent food and service. They have all white meat chicken dishes, which is a real plus for me. Food was plentiful and good. They serve bean dip and salsa with the chips -- great when mixed together!
(4)Gerald W.
What happened to this place? I used to think it was pretty good but each time I've come back in the last year its progressively gotten worse. Sorry don't think my stomach can stomach another visit.
(2)Alma H.
Awesome food and very friendly staff! We are from Texas and have tried many many Mexican restaurants in the area. There are some good places but I think we found our fave.
(5)Dave J.
Very clean, restaurant style Mexican food. Fantastic service. Very ample portions cooked by South of the border folks using good recipes. Super chips and salsa with a tasty bean dip. Try mixing the salsa and the chips together. Not a beer drinker myself, it looked like others were happy with their brew. My Dr.Pepper was, well, Dr. Pepper!
(4)Jennifer A.
Awesome food and service!! We have been here many times and the carne asada is the best. And the salsa is fabulous.
(5)Heidi S.
Wow great food amazing service. We will be back for sure. We found this place and decided to come here based on its reviews and were not disappointed. It's far from out house but I'm glad we made the drive. Love that they have Coke Finally a Mexican place that serves Coke! Try this place out you won't be let down. Also the server called us amigos nice touch.
(5)Monica T.
Good Mexican food in Sandy? It's true, it's true! I ventured down here one Tuesday afternoon to meet up with my boyfriend and a couple of his co-workers. My first impression came from the chips and salsa (as it typically does in Mexican restaurant). The chips were warm and the salsa was delicious. They also brought out a bean dip, which was a nice change of pace. While the other three ordered the carnitas burrito, I decided to be a rebel and went for the shrimp fajitas. They had a nice flavor, and having carrots and mushrooms in there in addition to the usual onions and peppers was a nice touch. They could have given me a bit more guacamole, though. (I think I used all of it on my first tortilla, and it was not like I was applying it liberally). The Carnitas Trio all said their burritos were good, though not the best they ever had. (This somehow led to an argument about whether or not the pork in the Cafe Rio burritos is too sweet or not. We were divided 50-50.) The service was great: attentive without being pushy. I appreciated the guy refilling the water who asked us if we all wanted more of the free tequila. He was kind of awesome. I'd definitely come back.
(4)Tim M.
Our first time visiting here. I had the Chili Colorado.. Done very traditional, outstanding flavor with a serious bite to it. Staff was very friendly, prices a little above average but worth it. Highly recommend !! Would have given it a 5 star.. But only eaten here once.
(4)Laura C.
Good food. Usually good service. They have a salad (I think it is the La Costa Salad) that I usually get with carne asada and it is wonderful. We eat here about 2-3 times per month.
(4)Charles S.
Okay. I LOVE Mexican food! It's my all-time favorite and I could eat it pretty much every day, as long as it's good Mexican food. And I also consider myself a Mexi-food Purist and Mexi-food snob. That being said, I LOVE THIS PLACE! Good solid "A" for sure. The chips were piping hot and the salsa was chunky, had great flavor and made my nose run (always a good sign!). They also have "HOT" salsa upon request and it's hot enought to strip the varnish off a foot locker, but still has a wonderful, smoky flavor. I had a combo plate and my wife had chicken fajitas. Both were excellent and fairly authentic with a touch of "Americanization." The meals were very flavorful and they each had their own unique twist. This place is about the cleanest Mexican Restaurant I've been to. They have great decor. They also have a good selection of beer, wine and liquor. La Costa has catapulted immediately into my top 5 list!
(5)Spencer A.
I was looking for a good Mexican place for my brother-in-law and me to grab some dinner. We chose La Costa because of the favorable reviews and it was all it promised to be and more. Our server was incredibly polite and attentive. The food was very reasonably priced and the portions were very generous. Everything was fresh and the taste was fantastic. I will definitely be returning here in the future.
(5)Bob M.
This place is great! Been about 6 times now and the service is always excellent and the food is yummy! One of my favorites in the Sandy area.
(5)Sam V.
So I was driving back from Vegas when my stomach decided to tell me I was craving Mexican food. I think I was in the middle of nowhere at the time. I got on my handy dandy Yelp app, and found that while on the way back to home, I only had one bookmark for a Mexican place I wanted to try. Oh, hello La Costa, I remember reading Scott's thrilling review and decided to give you a try. Oh my. I wonder if it's possible to just say "ditto" to all of the above, but I suppose that would be lazy. You know what wasn't lazy? The service here. I'm dead serious. It was absolutely PERFECT. I had a PERFECT dining experience. 1. Hot chips, salsa, and beans to your table right when you sit down to munch on while pondering over the extensive menu. I appreciate them considering my hunger while ordering. 2. My water was always filled, and on a 90+ degree day outside, that's also very much appreciated. 3. The food. Not only extremely delicious and perfectly cooked, it came out faster than times I've waited in the drive-thru at Taco Bell. I had the Carne Asada, and my boyfriend had the number 17 combo, both delicious and satisfied our severe hunger from road tripping. 4. The dessert. Sopopillas. with honey and cinnamon. Holy schmagee. 5. Can I say the service again? I mean, their timing is wonderful, they are always present, but never overbearing. When I wanted a squeeze of lime, I was able to have someone attend to me literally two seconds after I thought of it. The check came soon after we completed the last bite of dessert. I always like it when I have the option of leaving when I want to, and not wait around forever just to receive my check. I would give this place 5 stars, but I did find the food to be a bit on the pricey side. It was delicious, and the service was excellent, so I'll definitely be back again.
(4)Kenny F.
Consistently good service with cheerful, friendly wait staff. The food is great as well. They are known for their Carne Asada and it is truly delicious. We eat at La Costa on a regular basis and we always leave happy.
(4)Adam B.
Great Authentic Mexican Food... My wife's family was in town and we were in the mood for some good Mexican food. I checked a few places and La Costa was the best reviewed. Now I know why. Its by far the best Mexican food I've had in Utah. You really can't go wrong with this place. P.S. They have out side dinning and now that the weather is great you have to sit outside.
(5)Scott S.
I am practicing writing sentences. We dined at La Costa. We were seated promptly. The seats were bright and rosy, comfy and cozy yoo hoo. Our waiter was courteous, kind, and informative. He had a neatly trimmed beard. La Costa gives you free "heated" chips, salsa, and home-made bean dip. I ate a lot of the appetizer. I think its all you can eat. The appetizer pleased my stomach. All you can eat appetizers are always welcomed when I dine out. There is a patio where you can enjoy the weather. Some meteorologists aren't accurate. Our food came so fast I thought we were at a fast food restaurant. The played Spanish/Hispanic/Mexican music while we ate. Do you think its possible to dance the Salsa, with salsa? I ordered a 2 enchilada platter. It came with 1 chicken, 1 sunrise with rice and beans. I would like to make out with my dinner it was that good. I felt fat after I ate it. My girlfriend ordered a chile verde burrito with rice and beans. It made her happy. She felt fat after she ate it. The portion sizes at La Costa are VERY generous. If you are still hungry after eating there you are probably eating too much. You might feel fat after eating at La Costa. The price is competitive. I would probably say average. We paid $25 (I think) including the tip. The post dinner mints leave a good taste in your mouth. They are "cinna" mints. I will return to La Costa again and again. My name is Scott, and I created Windows.
(4)Nicole B.
La Costa has everything you want in a Mexican restaurant. From the minute we walked in, everyone scrambled to be of assistance. We asked to sit outside--it was a perfectly temperate evening--and they promptly wiped down the tables so there was absolutely no dust. :) Nice touch. Staff was so on top of it. Water glasses always full. Waiter even smelled good. ;) The food was great. Piping hot plate, served quickly, refried beans all melty with the cheese on top all melty too. I got the #1 combo which was a shredded chicken enchilada (great enchilada sauce and cheese on top--so yummy) pork tamale (perfectly thick ground corn and super tender meat!) and shredded beef taco (also super-tender meat. Slow cooked perhaps?) The salsa that was served as the appetizer was really good. Big onion chunks and all. I went with my 2 kids and our bill was $18. (We just ordered a plate for my youngest--no meal of her own.) I was purposely trying to keep it low, we could have easily spent more, so it could have gotten pricey. There was not a bite of food left when we left the table. So I guess, my only criticism is that it could get expensive. I could have easily fed the 3 of us Mexican somewhere else for less, but the quality here made it worth it.

I love this place! The flautas are my favorite. The bacon-wrapped shrimp is amazing too. Full bar and patio. A great Mexican food option for those of us in the south part of the valley.

We go here when we want a great meal at a great price served by great people. Highly recommended. The portions are large and the flavors delicious. The staff seem to enjoy their jobs. It's a great vibe.

Went to this restaurant expecting the previous Mexican restaurant in this location. We were really looking forward to the chili colorado. The service was good. The chips and salsa were very good, warm chips and the salsa was very tasty. The red chili was not good at all. Thankfully, I ordered a combo meal that included the red chili. My wife only had the red chili special. Very disappointing. The rest of the food was ok.

I had some steak tacos that were pretty good. The service was great. I would have given it 4 stars but two things brought it down to three. The kids meal portions were too small. The salsa was disappointing it had no heat.

Love this place. Great food, great Margaritas, good friendly service. And a great place to meet up with great friends!

More like 2.5ish. It's not bad. Very over priced for the quality and quantity of food though. The highlight of the meal was actually the beer. I was seriously impressed with this 22 ounce Lager called Baja that I hadn't tried previously. It came in a ridiculously tall and skinny stein, were talking the Manute Bol of steins here. I got the burrito and enchilada combo which were par in flavor and in portions.

We decided to eat here because of the good reviews on Yelp. We had trouble finding the address due to it's strip mall location. The food was good and the restaurant was kid friendly! The server did get my order wrong, I asked for the Chille Verde and he brought me the Chille verde burito and I wanted the dinner plate. He quickly fixed the mistake but should have made sure what Chille verde was wanted. Great food!

I've been searching a long time for a Mexican restaurant with good service, and La Costa finally delivered! I met up with some friends for lunch. After Yelping for good Mexican we stumbled upon La Costa. There were only a couple of reviews, but they were positive, so we decided to give it a shot. The location - La Costa is located in a newly-renovated strip mall off of 9400 S. in Sandy. There's more than enough parking, and the building is very accessible. The inside and outside of the building look great. The dining area is very spacious and clean. There's an outside patio that I'm looking forward to trying this summer. The service - was exceptional! The server had great recommendations, took our order promptly, and checked on us regularly. The staff worked together to ensure that no water was empty, and that dishes were cleared. The food - was above average. I ordered the pork burrito. It was good, but not great. As the last Yelper mentioned, the pork was a little dry. The portions were big. This is the kind of place that a to-go box comes standard with every meal. I recommend this place to anybody looking for a nice sit down Mexican joint with good service and a hungry appetite.

I was torn between three and four stars. I ultimately gave it a three because food does trump all. I'll preface this by stating I love Mexican food. In my mind there are two categories, taquerias and traditional restaurants (also referred to as cantinas). This is obviously a restaurant, I judge Mexican restaurants a few ways: 1. Salsa - It was fresh and homemade but too runny and not spicy enough. - 3 stars 2. Smothered burrito w/ Chile Verde - I got the carnitas smothered burrito and although it was packed with meat, the carnitas were too dry. - 3 stars 3. Service - 5 stars 4. Margarita - TBA Bottom line: I really liked the service. They brought salsa, hot beans, and hot chips to the table when we sat down. Got the bill to us quickly and were on top of how we were doing. The food is the most important which was just above average. Had I tried their "Perfect Margarita", that could have bumped it to a 4 star.

Great place to eat mexican food. Try the carne asada steak.

Our families favorite Mexican restaurant. We have been eating here since they opened-around 1999-2000? They used to be across the street in the Sandy Mall. Try the chicana plate (chicken) or the Sopas. they have more than the run of the mill tacos, burritos, etc Love the salsa, beans and chips they serve while you wait for your food.

Best Mexican restaurant in Utah, hands down. For over 10 years, my family and I have been regulars here. Great portions, great tastes, great ambience. I will be coming back for a very long time.

It's all you will want at a Mexican restaurant. Excellent service, fair prices, quality food, very good margarita, tasteful interior...will go back for sure!,

Food was alright, nothing special. Make sure n check your taquitis have the correct meat, as my waitress's tried to tell me chicken was shredded meat. I've had better Mexican food n wouldn't recommend this place.

Pretty good food. Actually really good food. Service was excellent and beer selection was more than adequate. Restaurant is clean, nicely decorated (so you can bring a date) and service was very friendly. I will definitely be back.

awesome service. We got some chicken in some secret cheese sauce they make and it was phenomenal. It's our new favorite mex restaurant.

Although the food isn't mind-blowingly good, it is certainly tasty and there's plenty of it. I might've given this one a 3, but the service was sufficiently outstanding to bump up the score. The warm tortilla chips that preceded the meal were also delicious.

I went to La Costa for lunch based solely on Yelp reviews. The salsa to start the meal was good. For my meal I ordered the Chile relleno, & (Beef) enchilada combo plate. it was your typical Americanized plate of slop. A heavy dose of rice and beans and the other offerings on the flanks. A Relleno is my all-time favorite Mexican dish. I grew up eating Mexican food frequently cooked by my Mexican Grandmother, Mother and Aunts. I know my Rellenos. This one was pretty terrible. The had removed the stem completely and as far as I could tell rolled up the chili with the cheese in-between and then dunked it in a heavy dose of egg batter. It was mushy and left much to be desired. The "Beef" enchilada was ground beef. Enough said. Had I known the beef was going to be ground I would have passed or perhaps stated I wanted shredded. Gross. My dining partner ordered a couple of tamales in the combo. They were heavy on the masa and light on the pork. Highly filling if that's what you're looking for. The service was great. Several employees were helping us out from seating us, filling water, serving our meals and taking our checks. It was somewhat overwhelming at times but I would take that over being ignored. If you're looking for that token sauce and cheese smothered plate of food, this is a place you'll enjoy. I for one love that type of thing once in a while. Today just was not my day I suppose.

In my opinion La Costa in Sandy is one of the best Mexican restaurants in Utah. The only Mexican joint I'd consider better might be Red Iguana. The atmosphere is great since they moved to a nice remodeled location (former Raphael's place I think on 94th S). I recommend the Picadillo and Guadalajara burritos, but my very favorite is the Carne Asada platter. They do flank steak right. Only downside is the chicken dishes are marginal at best.

Wow their servings are HUGE! I also loved the horchata. The food was decent. Definitely didn't leave hungry :)

Favorite Mexican restaurant. We eat here at least 4-5 times a month. The prices have gone up but the food is still worth it. Service is excellent. Been a fan since 2008

I love the Flautas and the Carne Asada is good too. Great Mexican for Utah!
