This place really seems to have gone downhill lately. The food is still pretty good, but not as fresh & great as it used to consistently be. The service is slower & less friendly, steak is lower quality, the restaurant is less clean ... Overall it's just lost its mojo. Seems like the management must've recently changed and they're trying to cut corners. It really shows. I'll probably still come back, but it's gone from 4.5 stars to 2.5 stars in my mind.

We're eaten here many times but tonight's service was less than stellar. Very few of the crew seemed to be paying any attention. Slow service, but good food. They screwed up my order. How hard is it to tell the difference between pinto and black beans? Or hold the tortilla? Or order a few kids meals but they didn't make 1? Really, why is this such a "popular" restaurant here in Utah?

The customer service at this location is always atrocious. I have given it many chances. And it's always consistently bad. They don't listen to you and rarely do they smile. It really just seems like they are all miserable. Cafe rio is suppose to make you happy! And this place depresses me. If there is one person who should show just a little bit of customer service skill it would be the cashier, but for this location that's way too much to ask for.. I'm going to go eat my very sad salad now.

DON'T ORDER ONLINE and watch your food so it doesn't get mixed up. The last 5 online orders have come home all WRONG, further we stood in line for about 30 minutes waiting for them (after waiting 45 minutes at home!). When I actually went in and stood inline they had one cashier for a huge huge line of people and all of the burritos got mixed up. I give Cafe Rio 4 stars on taste-really their food and flavor a are amazing!, Zero stars on their capability to read printed to-go orders, and 2 stars on service because they mix up orders. I've learned my lesson. UNLESS I go in the restaurant and watch it closely as its prepared I can guarantee my food will get messed up somehow. Guaranteed! Try the pork salad, pork burrito enchilada style, & tree leches cake you won't be disappointed -in flavor that is.

I just was at this location. Someone thew up in the line. We told the workers right when it happened. Stood in line for another 15 min and nobody had come and cleaned it up! People were having to walk through it! Are you kidding me? Throw up around food and you guys arnt cleaning that the second it happened? I work in food. That is the biggest health code violation! Will never come to your store again!!

Greeted by the worst rudest person I could have possibly been my last trip here. She was snotty and rude to not only myself but the supervisor in charge as well. Asked me if a salad was mine and when I asked for lettuce she informed me that she wasn't in charge of that, then began to get defensive and angry at her supervisor because he let someone else go home instead of her. That kind of unprofessionalism is not ok, especially not in front of customers. Not pleased. And when I got home, the beans from my salad had leaked all over the bottom of my bag. Not a pleasant trip at all.

I used to love Café Rio! I would come here multiple times a week because I couldn't get enough of their food. Over the last year however, the portions have become smaller, the prices are getting higher and the waiters never even really pay attention to you when you're trying to order, and you end up with your order not being correct. Today I got a pork salad, and they barely even put any lettuce in the salad. It looks more like a small tostada instead of the big portions salad they used to give you. Price per quality and portion is no longer balanced, and I'm not sure if it's worth it anymore :(

This review is on this particular location, the Cafe Rio on redwood rd in South Jordan gets 4 stars from me. This location is very stingy on everything... I always get a salad and I'm surprised at how little lettuce was put on. I told them no cilantro because I am allergic and they used the cilantro tongs to put the chips on which left some cilantro on my salad after I just told him I'm allergic. They slid the top of my salad off and had to re-do it. Also, I had to ask for extra tortilla strips on top and the way he grabbed them from the container crushed them all and I still didn't end up with even half the amount that gets put on in the South Jordan location. I will definitely post a comparison picture next time I get a salad from the other location. I will NOT be coming back to this location... Ever.

It's a typical cafe rio experience. Waiting in a LONG line, super noisy, skimpy taco fillings, over priced, and rude workers. Extra charge for cheese on my taco? Sheesh. (I know mom and pop taco places that would never do that). Skimpy lettuce and the tiniest cup of tomatoes. The meat is too sweet and not spicy enough. Why did I come here again...? I think i wanted to go back for a second experience hoping to love it. Definitely will be trying all the other dozen restaurants in the area and not returning.

If I owned the Quarry Bend Cafe Rio I'd fire the entire staff and start over. You will not find worse service than at this location. This location makes me hate Cafe Rio. The staff is directionless and they treat your food like slop - throwing, slinging and hurtling food across the food prep area. The food quality is rarely acceptable. It's time for Cafe Rio to face the music that they're not the only game in town and they need to put in just a little bit of effort to earn their customer's loyalty. I sincerely would like to see Cafe Rio crash and burn. They've done everything to deserve their business to fail and nothing to earn the respect of their customers.

Love the food... seriously would drink the dressing. Service at this location though is pretty awful. It's always been blah, but today was hilariously bad. We showed up right after they opened and, with the exception of the nice kid wiping down tables, we were ignored by the employees. They looked at us and went back to whatever they were doing. I understand if maybe they were still setting up and weren't quite ready. A nice "Hey guys, we'll be right with you" would have been cool. We stood there super awkwardly wondering if they were passively aggressively trying to get us to leave. My friend went to ask the cashier what was going on, and then one of the ladies was all like "We've been waiting for you to order." Um no... We've been standing here staring at you wondering what was going on... I'm not gonna just yell my order at people that aren't looking at me. Finally this guy started helping us, but was super put out by it. Seriously he was throwing stuff and wouldn't even look at us. Real mature guy... We were planning on eating there, but they just bagged up our stuff so we took our food and left. I've been in the service industry for way too long, so normally I like to make excuses for shitty service. Anyway... it was either get pissed or laugh, so I'm choosing to laugh about it. Oh and sign up for Yelp and write my first review ever because I've never been treated like I was inconveniencing someone with my two minute salad order. Oh yeah, on the way out the kid wiping the tables was super nice and said bye. That kid is cool.

Waited in line for 20 mins. Our of fire grilled chicken. Burrito not that warm. Unorganized food prep line.

Cafe Rio has some good food. The portions are large and you do pay for them. I have always been a fan of Cafe Rio. I'm especially a fan of the sweet pork in anything. However, I have become a little disenchanted. Cafe Rio has raised it prices and taken something out of the meals. You can still get them but they charge you extra for them. The used to be better about not adding on so many extra costs. With that being said they have made some improvements like putting horchata out with the other fountain drinks so you can fill and refill yourself. Before you could not get a refill. Another problem is that Cafe Rio used to have standards that set them apart and made them more desirable. They have let much of that go because they are out to make money as a business and so they cut some corners and become like everyone else. For this reason I mostly avoid eating here. That and the cost adds up quickly.

Food is awesome, but customer service is god awful. It's been a year since I've had cafe rio and now I realized why I left, like I said food is awesome, but customer service is terrible. There is a draper location, I might try they're location instead. Feeling is very rushed and not friendly the server seemed annoyed to be helping or taking our order, will not return to this location.

Cafe Rio just has a fun atmosphere in addition to the food being heavenly. Plus the summer drinks are extra yummy.

Every time I order to-go from here they get the order wrong. The manager Lupe is a joke. Save yourself the hassle and go to another Cafe Rio.

Employee gets called a "Nigger" by another employee. I even watched him get barked at like a dog. Employee confronted manager but manager walked around him with out acknowledgement other than a half smile on his face. Nobody came to this poor guys aid with over 30 people around. I over heard the employee say only here in Utah he gets treated this way. I take that very personal so I confronted the manager and told him what I saw. The manager wasn't going to take care of it because he found it more convenient to help with the front line. It was late in the night and you could basically walk straight up and order with out waiting. I told him that customers come second to work place racial profiling, but he had another idea of how customers would rank. He told me that complaints need to be logged with regional blah, blah, blah, it was so unclear what he was saying, probably because he was so mad, embarrassed, and uncertain what to do. I asked the cashier what he said and she had no idea either, and even gave me a little attitude as well to the point where she couldn't even get the order together. Café Rio policy is completely wrong with the way it was told to me. I thought the customer was always right and it was so easy to be with this incident. I never had a problem with asking for an extra scoop of Pico de Gallo, but this time I was only offered the "Have a good day Sir!". This Manager needed to stop the minimal task he was accomplishing and take the employee to his office and listen to how his employee was being treated. It was almost as if the manager was encouraging the actions by the other employees. I watched the persecuted employee go back to his post and continue to work harder than the manager himself, a truly an amazing site on his part. Thanks for ruining what should have been a nice evening.

This place is as bad as other reviewers said it is. The staff were horrible. I ordered vegetarian tacos and the guy told me they couldn't do that. I have had it at other locations, so I know he can. After he said a few more unintelligent things, I asked him if it was his first day. He said he usually works the register. He got a lady involved who didn't speak English. Between them the service was ridiculously bad.

Customer Service needs attention! We love the food here and we had been coming at least once a week if not more but the 1 star here is for service we have received at this location on multiple Sundays. Today's visit: arrived at 11:30. Tortillas not ready so we waited 4-5 mins in line while they made some. We ordered a pork enchilada, niño quesadilla, and the special of the day which was a fish or shrimp taco. When we got to the register the female cashier with glasses (receipt says Javier) told us there was no special today. I said 'your sign says it's the taco today.' She said 'well they must have forgotten to take the sign down because we don't have a special today.' I say 'So your not going to honor it, you left the sign up and it says daily special not Saturday special'. She said again, like I was totally irritating her 'We don't have a special today.' I told her she better make sure they take the signs down then and as I'm finishing up my meal and exiting, they are still up at 12:05PM. That $2.50 that was YOUR ERROR just cost you a 1 star review and we're going to think twice about coming here. We'll just make our own Cafe Rio at home. My husband just checked in on Yelp and he has 71 check ins here. Previously when we have come on Sundays there are employees laying on the tables trying to sleep, rap music playing, and utter disorganization. You need better - or more managers. As a manager myself in retail I would be irate if my employees treated anyone this way.

my review is really about this location... this being the last time I go. 1st things 1st. why have online ordering as an option if you suck at it. the last time I ordered online my food was not ready and basically I had to jump in line to get service. Today my online order was given to an entirely wrong customer and I'm left yet again waiting in line. the customer service at this location is laughable. I will not return.. there are 40 other places within 10 minutes that im certain care about customer service and providing the service they claim to offer.

  • Quinn P.

We have been here many times and it seems to be getting worse. The cheese enchiladas were not heated and had to be sent back through again. And the employees yell at you and ask you what you want when your three and four people away. Same with the cashier. Why don't they slow down, serve your food properly instead of always yelling at you and rush you out the door.

What happened to the Café Rio I grew up with in St. George? It's definitely not to be found at this place. This is by far the worst café Rio in Utah and maybe the entire US. I agree with other reviews never order online from here it is a joke. Last time we did they claimed to have lost our order. They told us that they could put a rush on it and it would be 15 mins out. Really 15 mins to make some tacos and a salad. NO greeting, NO Food and NO I'm sorry how I can make this better. That btw is not uncommon and we have come to expect being treated horribly at this location. I asked to speak with the manager and she didn't care and just gave excuses that she was under staffed. We live in Sandy and this place could take notes from the Cottonwood Heights, Taylorsville or any other location. If you go just know that you will wait more than usual, you will not be greeted, you will be mistreated and you will be lucky to get what you order.

The ambiance was good, albeit the music was a little on the loud side, which resulted in me having to repeat myself a few times when I finally got around to ordering. I ended up getting a fire grilled chicken burrito and I'll be honest, I've had better. The beans tasted processed and the chicken definitely tasted like reheated, pre-cooked meat. My husband also got a burrito but my brother got the salmon tacos. He seemed to enjoy them so all was not bad. The pico was pretty good and tasted fresh. Plenty of cilantro, which I like. All in all, if you're looking for a loud and quick mexican fix it's not all that bad. Personally, I'd rather go to Gualberto's for an, in my opinion, better tasting and cheaper alternative for burritos.

  • Pdog E.

Cafe Rio is delicious! Amazing salsas and hot sauces to try. Plenty of cilantro. Some other reviewers complain saying they don't think it's authentic. I don't know, but it tastes amazing so who cares. I had heard several people say that this place is worth trying out. Apparently their burritos are award winning. I chose to try their nachos which were pretty good. They put your food together in front of you like Subway Sandwiches. Yummy specialty juices too. Mint lemonade was great and a wonderful minty aftertaste. I can't wait to come back!

  • Matias S.

The food quality is great for a fast food place, with freshly made tortillas and a good selection of meats. On the other hand, the service is horrible and the place is freezing cold. I've been to several different Cafe Rio restaurants and this is the worst of them all.

    (3)
  • Nicole B.

I eat here so much. It's almost embarrassing. Almost. Salad's great, shrimp tacos are the bomb, the chips and queso are amazing (although not on my diet currently). And when you eat in the restaurant the kids get a free kids quesadilla. That makes it a cheap place to eat if you're a family.

  • Eric S.

Good food for a good price. The Pork Burrito - enchilada style is worth the .95 upgrade. They also get you on the Guac .95 & Sour Cream .50 extras but it's worth it. Nice size soda fountain with multiple types of brewed iced tea. Plenty of room, nice colorful ambiance, friendly service, fresh flavorful mexican food. 3.89

I love Cafe Rio but don't consider it the authentic Mexican food, which I prefer, so that is why I only give it 4 stars. I am a fan of the pork tacos that I ate today on my lunch break with co-worker. Fresh and delicious! I always feel anxious at Cafe Rio, I get in line and feel like there are so many options and I don't know which to choose! Then when I get up to the front of line and they look at me waiting for me to tell them my order... I have to remind myself to speak! I just get frazzled! Oh well, by the time I pay, get my drink and sit down I am usually okay to enjoy the meal. The hard rock music today was a bit much, but by the end of the meal that had toned down a little as well!

Good food. Each time I order the steak burrito and they seem to put in less and less meat each time I go. Kids love it.

    the best burritos ever

  • Andrew M.

There are tons of these joints all over Utah now and I'm a fan of them. I like Cafe Rio the best of the similar places like Bajio, etc. I like the sweet pork burrito and salad the most and would recommend Cafe Rio to anyone, especially those of you who are from out of town and have never been here before. If you want an amazing dessert get the Tres' Leche...it's MONEY!

    (4)
  • Root C.

I am not a huge fan of chain restaurants. The only exception is Cafe Rio. I love the salads with chicken or pork. You can choose to have regular flour or wheat tortilla. They are super quick and everything is super fresh. I always eat here when I'm in town. I wish they would open one in San Diego, CA! I am addicted!

  • Jase O.

When ordering take out your sauces, make sure the lids are on tight. Oh and while you are waiting in line; make sure you are NOT in the way of an employee... They will let you know you are in their way. I love cafe rio; however, I will never come back to this location.

Dont eat here. Management doesnt care. All they want is to take ur money and push you out. Costa Vida is a better place for your money.

I've checked-in on yelp at this specific café Rio location three different times. I guess you're wondering what keeps me coming back. Well, there are three primary reasons why we've been dining here. The first reason is, I enjoy the variety of flavored iced teas they offer. The second reason is, the kids quesadilla is free and the third reason is, I like the outdoor seating at this location. Now for the service and the food. There is usually a long line at dinner time and they are slow and somewhat disorganized. I find the orders are mixed up and you are under pressure to make a decision on your burrito ingredients. I find it hard to swallow the fact that they charge extra for "smothering" your burrito. If you want a side order of chips, the quantity is enormous, however, of the price is pretty steep too. In total, I think the food is average for a quick serve restaurant, QSR. I'll patronize this restaurant again - but not my first choice. Salute!

I live in Washington and sadly, our Cafe Rio choices are super limited so while on a road trip, my husband and I just HAD to stop here for lunch because CR is normally one of our favorite stops. Sadly, as far as Cafe Rio's go - this one was not my favorite. Line: Getting the food is kind of complicated. They really rush you in the beginning then it gets a little backed up so you're not really sure who they're talking to as you go down the line (not to mention, food gets cold while you wait to talk to the person doing the toppings). Food: - Chips and queso are one of my all time fav food combos and the queso here was too runny. Chips were okay - needed salt. - Chicken Enchilada w/beans (pinto) and rice: corn tortilla tasted stale, beans and rice under-cooked. Was luke warm at best. - Chicken tacos: these got an okay review from my lunch date - his fav part was the flour tortillas Cleanliness: so / so. A bunch of tables hadn't been wiped down so seat selection was limited. They use a TON of cinnamon air freshener though in the bathrooms. The smell gets in the main part of the restaurant which is not what I want to be smelling when I am eating Mexican food

Why do I feel like a physically abused wife every time I patronize this place? It doesn't matter whether the help is rude, the dish they prepare is sloppy or, like tonight, they tell me at 8:00 that grilled chicken will take 15 minutes if I want to wait. Black and blue, missing a tooth and flinching whenever I notice rapid movement from my periphery, I return again and again. But not nearly as often as I once did. Search "Mexican" with "current location" only 2 miles from this place and it doesn't come up. That's a good thing. This place is more Mexican't than Mexican.

  • Abby M.

Unfortunately, when we came they were out of medium sauce, mild sauce, and their special Fideo. It was also disappointing because they skimped on the meat and sauces for both of our meals. When we tried asking for chips and guacamole, the manager ignored us and we had to repeat it three times. He only filled up our tub halfway and naturally, we asked for a little bit more but he refused and said that it would be extra. Shoddy customer service.

Love cafe Rios but this store is the slowest in the world. Could have sat down in a full service reaturant

Very dirty location, rude staff who act as if you are an inconvenience when ordering and all around very poor customer service. Don't waste your time, save time and drive to draper location.

  • Keith W.

I have to say, I have always enjoyed Cafe Rio's salads and Burittos but today I ordered their nachos. It will be the last time I make that mistake. All they did was take chips put them in the foil bowl, sprinkle 'some' shredded cheese on, and add some chicken. There was no layering and when it came out of the oven it looked just like it did when it went in. Honestly the worst I have ever experienced.

  • Charles A.

STAY AWAY from this place. It had been hit and miss for the past year and wanted to try again today. The employees don't listen to your order and when we reminded them that we didn't want it "enchilda" style, they took the burrito and just shook out the contents into another tortilla (sauce and all). They do everything they can to make sure you automatically get your burritos "enchilada" style so they can make the extra $1.50. BAD service and food quality has gone down the drain.

Both my assistant and I became sick after eating at this location yesterday. When I called to tell the store the manager, Mary, said thanks for calling and telling us. No offer to make it right -- terrible customer experience.

Delicious! Our family loves this place. The food is freshly prepared in front of you. The portions are goodly sized. This location is clean and neat.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
