Their website has a brunch menu so we planned to go on a Saturday at 11, which is the time the menu stated brunch started. We got there at 11 and they weren't open. So we decided to run some errands and come back. When we came back they were open, but after we were seated they gave us lunch/dinner menus. We asked about brunch, but the server told us they stopped serving brunch a long time ago. I was pretty disappointed, but we decided to order since we were very hungry. We got the hanger steak sandwich with chips and a French onion soup. Everything tasted good, but the steak sandwich was TINY! It was like a small half sandwich, and since it was an open faced sandwich there was only one tiny slice of bread on the bottom. Also, they only put like 10 potato chips on the plate as a side.

Was here for breakfast last Sunday. It was HORRIBLE! Terrible service, lack of condiments, omelets lack taste & they were more egg than filler. 1-The 3 of us were seated and a group of 3 after we had placed our order received their food first. Not COOL! 2-They brought us out a watered down bottle of Tabasco sauce and a bottle of ketchup. Then another waiter came by and took our bottle of ketchup for another table. WTF! Our server came back & explained that, that was the last bottle of ketchup in the building. How does a restaurant run out of ketchup? We had to ask for the bottle back and then add water to it to try and get some of that tomatoey goodness to add some flavor to our flavorless meal. 2a-Why could they not send someone to the Smith's grocery store down the road with some petty cash to grab a few dozen bottles? I know that is thinking outside the box, but c'mon really? 3-My wife ordered an omelet where the last 1/4th of the omelet had all the cheese, it was not spread throughout the omelet. Really? I'm a novice at best when it comes to cooking omelets but even I know that you need to spread all that lovely cheesiness throughout the egg dish. Or that is what I have seen on FoodNetwork at least. Needless to say that will be the final time my family (my father in law who loved this place for the last 5 years, & had the same experience the week prior said he won't be back) & I will be back. We will go to the Village Inn or Dees, at least they will have ketchup for all the tables. If I could post zero stars I would.

This place is soooo great. My husband and I frequent this place for brunch, dinner or even just drinks. Great food!

Dropped in and had the chicken enchiladas. Didn't know what to expect but it was DELICIOUS! Best food I've had in a long time, and I am hard to please. Great environment and service.

All-around good meal. Really enjoyed the orange-lime chicken taco and the beer battered fish taco. Freshly fried tortilla chips and corn salsa were a bonus. Black beans were ok. The place just has an all-around good vibe.

New American fare and everything is mouthwatering also everything is available with skirt steak and and I have eaten and loved the salad and the sandwich and both were literally the best. Decorations on point good hot sauces and wow that steak and potato salad is something special!!

This is my first time at Stella Grill and I was extremely impressed. The overall establishment is maintained beautifully and the ambiance is fantastic! Our server was extremely classy and well versed in the menu. I ended up ordering the salmon sandwich and, once it arrived, was not disappointed. The filet was expertly grilled and the flavours of the sandwich complimented beautifully with each other! Definitely recommend this place!

Went in for a lunch. The Santa Fe chicken sandwich was bland and the chicken was very dry. The service was terrible. No one asked how the food was or refilled our drinks. With so many options in town, there is no reason to eat here.

I was looking for a nice, yet casual, place for a girls night out. Of course I jumped on the Yelps to figure that out with the help of the interwebs where to eat. I read a few reviews of local joints, then I stumbled across the reviews for Stella. Since I trust all things that Jeffery S says about ... well everything, I read his glowing remarks about Stella and said to myself, "Self, you gotta try this place!" I had the Open Face Hanger Steak sandwich with the French Onion Soup. My girlfriend had the Bacon Swiss Burger with a salad. I won the dinner round that day! The hanger steak is off the charts delish! I admit I have had better French onion soup, but it was still really good. Her burger was good as well, but her one complaint was that the salad seemed a little unwashed. I found it rather interesting that they DO NOT have a ranch salad dressing. The chips that came with the meal were pretty tasty!! Our cups were kept full of our choice of beverage. The waitstaff was attentive and once we said we were not in a hurry, neither were they; which was fine by us! More detail on the hanger steak? Sure. The steak was cooked just the way I like it: medium. It is open face so knife and fork were in order for me ... those more adventurous might just pick it up with their hands and chow down. Not this girl! The mushrooms added a great flavor but I was pretty much in love with the basil mayo and blue cheese crumbles. Child please!! I am not sure when I go back I will order something else because this was just too tasty to not try again! I tend to judge places I eat by the cleanliness of their bathrooms, and Stella did not disappoint. Their ladies room was clean and cute. One odd thing, though, was that they had a candle plugged in next to the sink with the chord dangling right by the water ... I was not sure on the safety of that move, but then I am not a health inspector. The decor is charming in the dinning rooms, and there is a patio I long to visit, but it was still too cold to venture out there on this trip. All in all I would visit this eatery again, and what is more I would recommend it to my friends and random interwebs too. Give Stella a try!

There is an atmosphere you can feel at the exterior of the building quickly destroyed by the head chef upon entry to the restaurant. His bad attitude reflects across all of the staff, the daily specials should be called monthly, and look out for mice. We gave this place a second try and were only let down.

Great place for lunch like everyone has mentioned. The food is delicious and the prices are good too. My favorite is the hanger steak sandwich. Great service too everyone was super nice and friendly. good bar selector as well. Will be back to try more delicious food

Love Stella! I have eaten here any times, and haven't had anything I wasn't pleased with! Some favorites: Monday & Friday pasta of the day! FABULOUS!! Hangar Steak Salad, also great! French Onion Soup, another Fave! Love this place, and I love how it's a "neighborhood" place!

Stella Grill has a clean modern look throughout with some rustic charm. Hardwood floors and lots of natural wood along with large, picture widows let in a lot of pretty sunlight during the day, making it very nice inside. We ate here for lunch a few weeks ago. It was my first time eating here but my wife's third or fourth time. I had the Italian Dip sandwich which was pretty good. The meat was a little fatty and tough in parts but overall the flavor of the sandwich was decent. I'd consider eating at Stella's again but remembering the menu there weren't very many items that really caught my attention. Maybe they have some different options for dinner, I don't know, that may be worth checking out another time.

Holy Crap! This place is awesome!! They have a smokin' menu...and a full bar! Our waitress could NOT have been nicer!! We ordered the French Onion Soup, Bacon Wrapped Jalapeno Shrimp, a Hot Italian Burger, a fruit plate, dessert, and lots of drinks! One of the drinks we selected was a Peppermint Martini - so delicious! Our waitress went the extra mile, and asked the bartender for the recipe so we could make it at home. She wrote down all of the ingredients, and even how to make it. Unbelievable service! We will definitely go back!! You should go too! Hurry up! :)

I can't really vouch for the rest of the menu, but the Korean Hanger Steak Sandwich is well above average. The tartness of the shredded cabbage mixes beautifully with the sweetness of the Kobe-style cuts of beef, grilled perfectly on a ciabatta style roll. Potato chips and side salad are average, forgettable really, but that sandwich keeps me coming.

Such a great breakfast! Excellent selection of menu items, great service, good music, and a wonderful chef. Thank you Stella for another great meal and for finally serving breakfast. Can't wait to come back to try out all the different varieties of Eggs Benedict. Keep up the great work.

Great little American style place. The tacos and steak are fabulous. In the summer time they open up the windows (must've been an old garage) but it totally adds to the ambience.

I have been here twice now and I hope I never have to go back. The service is not great at all. The food completely misses on flavor. i had a large salad and was unimpressed and felt sick after eating it.

Stella's is one of our favorite local places to dine. Good food and beer and a nice ambience. It's an old fire house that's been converted to a restaurant, with a lovely patio and an open and bright inside dining area. It's a great place to dine inside and out. That said... The service is lacking, not just lacking but almost non-existent. Sometimes it can be nice to be left to your own pleasantries, especially if you're enjoying an evening out without pressing obligations. Sometimes, however, the waiter does not even allow the other people in your party to order an appetizer. Let alone an entree! That was the experience we had with some friends while dining there recently. I felt embarrassed and disappointed for inviting them to one of our favorite places to dine! Oh how we talked it up!.....and oh what an extreme let down it ended up being for them! I feel conflicted about recommending this place to anyone in the future. On one hand I love it and on the other how can I recommend a place to someone if there's a possibility of said persons not even being given the opportunity to order a meal!? That said, I think if the attitude of the staff could be adjusted to a more relaxed and friendly nature, more patrons would love this place as well.

I love this place!! Wow - great food - fabulous wait staff - friendly - and the breakfast is one of the best in town. They have choices for vegetarians as well as great meat dishes. The place is clean and parking is easy. The soup is always fabulous and the turkey avocado sandwich beats all! I would have to rate Stella Grill amount my top five favorite places in Salt Lake to eat. They are nice about accommodating a large group and don't mind sweeping up after your baby - or at least if they do you wouldn't know it. The bar is a good one as well. All around great place.

This is a place I have been to often. It is owned by the same folks whom run the Desert Edge Pub in Trolley and Red Butte Garden in Foothill Village. The food is pretty consistent from one to the other. I, personally, think it is very good. Their salads are excellent. I highly recommend the Hanger Steak Salad. They have great sandwiches and soups and their tacos and enchiladas, while not exactly traditional Mexican tasting, are honestly delicious! The food usually comes quickly and is fresh and hot. The service is usually very good. My only complaint is that if you are there to have a fruitful productive conversation with anyone, it will be very hard. It is incredibly loud and communication is tough. But other than that, I highly recommend it.

Oh, hello pretty little Stella. I can't describe, exactly, what it is that really charmed me so much about Stella. I've been here a few times to visit, but been wanting to come back for a full dinner. With a friend visiting in town from the East Coast, I figured a trip to an American joint with a little Southwest flair was in order. One thing I do know for sure--I really love this building. A little Southwest feel to it, but still modern and nice. Not so much "cozy," but more like a hint of trendy among a really laid back neighborhood feel. Clear as mud? The big wooden garage doors, the galvanized and corrugated steel accents along the fence and in the planters on the patio, and the brushed aluminum garbage cans in the restroom. They all speak to the sensibilities of neighborhood dining a step above. And while we're talking about the patio, I should mention that it's perfect on summer nights. Surrounded by well maintained annual flowers in planters, there's ample seating with bright chairs and shade as the evening glides on. Grab a seat here if it's warm enough and enjoy. The vibe inside has a beat to it. The staff is friendly and not fancy, but tonight they stayed out of the way enough to let us catch up with an old pal. They're efficient and courteous. On previous visits during quieter hours I've had a good chat with them and they even remembered serving my brother. How's that for a long shot? Now, the food. The menu is full of sandwiches, salads, a few Mexican items, and a seasonal group of entrees. Sandwiches set you back $9 or so and come with a choice of fruit, salad, or pasta salad. They're generously portioned with some chips as well and should fill up a good eater. I felt like they really nailed the price/portion ratio, so a big thumbs up there. Entrees go for $18 or more. I didn't get to try one, and most of the folks around me were also on the sandwich or salad mode. I had the Santa Fe chicken sandwich, which I imagined would be right in their wheelhouse. Chicken, poblano pepper, pepper jack, sweet onions and a chipotle mayo. I have to say that the flavors were really nice, I just wish they had been stronger. I wanted a little punch from the mayo, a nice grill flavor from the chicken, and a sass or two from the pepper jack or poblano. It didn't really have that grab to it, but I still packed it all away and can't complain. I opted for pasta salad (having tried another house-made pasta salad at their sister restaurant Desert Edge) and really liked it. Be sure to mix it all together before you eat it--that's the secret. I also saw the open faced hanger steak sandwich which was reported to be pretty delicious. It did look pretty darn inviting and would be a solid choice, as was the Italian dip sando. They have a nice little drink list and serve Desert Edge Brewery beers as well as wines and a few specialty cocktails. I'm thrilled that Stella is here in this part of town. It really stands apart from anything around it and is a great place to gather with friends (though a little loud) for a good time.

I visited Stella with some coworkers for lunch a few months ago. The service was very bad, with a very unhelpful waitress and it took forever to get her attention to place our order. Once we received our food, it was great! I would give it another chance and hope that it was just a bad waitress. Maybe we will try it for dinner next time. The food was definitely worth another shot!

I've heard great things about Stella, and it's one of the few non-chain options in this neck of the woods. The food was ... all right. My friend and I both ordered burgers, and the house-made potato chips on the side were fresh and tasty enough. Maybe I need to try something more complex than a burger to be impressed, but. As a self-proclaimed burger aficionado, a well-prepared burger gets my attention every time. I do like that they carry local brews on tap. The building/ambiance is nice enough, and our server was friendly and attentive. However, it just didn't wow me to the point that I'll go back anytime soon, versus other places around town that immediately spring to mind when I'm thinking of dining out. I'm giving Stella three stars, when in reality I think it's more of a 3.5 star experience. But compared to the other places I've given four stars to, Stella doesn't quite stack up.

Ambience was less to be desired. No color in the building except on the chalk board. Lighting could be focused on a painting or a plant. Had the salmon which had a great pumpkin sauce but the salmon was too undercooked for my liking. Had the goat cheese appetizer which for 6$ was really tasty. Boyfriend and son had the steak medium rare and the presentation was beautiful but the steak lacked flavor even after a salt and pepper attempt. Eventually asked for steak sauce which seemed criminal since a 19$ steak shouldnt need it. Would try again but a long ways down the road and for lunch. Service was good for Saturday night at 7pm.

Stella provided me with some pretty good Beer-Battered Fish Tacos. I have only one small complaint that made my meal less-enjoyable: the side of beans leaked into my tacos by the time my food came out. This made the corn tortillas and the fried fish soggy... which made the delicious taste of the batter on the fish not good. I ended up picking my tacos apart until I found some fish that wasn't soaked in bean juice and eating them alone! I can only image how yummy it would be with the rest of the taco in it's normal state! As a side note, the chips that come with the plate are weirdly addicting! I think it's the thickness of the chips mixed with the amount of salt that makes them so good. I couldn't stop eating them. The atmosphere is nice and refreshing. It feels like a cafe but bigger. I'm pretty sure they had a bar there as well. That gives them more points in my book.
I really enjoyed my experience at Stella Grill. Nice atmosphere & decor, good service and great food... & they have a full bar! Everything you want all rolled into one location (which is hard to find in this area of the city). I sat at the bar which gave me a great view of the kitchen. It was a very professionally run kitchen, clean and food was prepared perfectly. The service was attentive & gave us the full rundown on specials & made us feel welcome.... we will be back!

As soon as I walked in I was greeted by a very friendly bartender. I don't remember his name, which is a shame because he definitely deserves credit. I ordered a Santa Fe chicken sandwich on a cheddar onion roll, with a side of pasta. As soon as I took a bite into the sandwich, I knew I was getting my money's worth, which wasn't hard because the prices are really quite modest. Everything tasted fresh, and they used quality ingredients. I work in the industry, and I can assure you there were no shortcuts in preparing the sandwich. I can't recommend the pasta salad enough. Stella also boasts a great wine selection. I was absolutely doing myself a disservice for driving past for years. Cheers!

Now that I've been to Stella several times, I figured it was time for an update. Overall, stella is very good. The menu is very similar to Red Butte Cafe, but the service is much better and more consistent. I've enjoyed everything I've tried at Stella. This is a good, solid, choice for lunch or dinner. Order whatever sounds good. You really can't go wrong here.

Great space. It's modern but not cold, friendly but cool. Might be loud when crowded, but that wasn't a problem when we ate there. The problem was three-fold: 1. Lots of things on the menu pose a challenge on one level or another. Don't like mushrooms? The steak sandwich has them. Want fries? Nope. Never seen a Caesar salad with sun dried tomato chicken salad on it? Here it's available, plus a bunch of other things rarely seen on a Caesar. It's not bad, exactly, but if you eat with a picky person (as I do) it seems as if every simple thing has some complicating factor. 2. Service was impersonal and imperfect. We'd never been to Stella Grill before, so we needed a minute to order. Our waitress was kind enough to ignore us for a nice long time so we could think. I noticed, too, that when she delivered the side salad to other tables it came with bread. Not for me. I'll get nothing and like it. 3. A few details on the food really seemed odd. For example, the little salad that comes with the crab cakes (pretty yum but unattractive) has a balsamic dressing. It's very good. But the side salad comes with a vinaigrette that I think was pure lemon juice. It was truly unpleasant to eat. My husband ordered his burger with no cheese and the mayo on the side (which really means: no mayo) but no one offered ketchup, mustard, or any other sauces. So his burger was, as others have complained here, pretty bland. Atmosphere: fun and attractive. Service: not great. Food: some things were tasty, others boring or actively bad. We won't refuse to go back with friends but we won't choose to go there again.

I have always believed you can tell the quality of a restaurant by how well they make a their Reuben. What I have learn for trying Stella Grill Reuben On Rye served with a side of fruit, is that they have set the bar high. Stella Grill has an inviting atmosphere however is a bit cold. If you visit in the winter you may want to keep you jacket on. The outdoor seating is great for those long summer evenings. It's also a bit loud so you may have to speak up if you're with a group and care for the person on the other end of the table to hear. All-in-all I'd recommend you give it a try. A second time I went the food was definitely a miss. Got a burrito, it was bland and came with way to much sauce of some sort. Enough that the burrito or enchilada or what ever it was, was swimming.

Pros: The food is good. On my most recent visit, I had the cornmeal crab cakes with a Stella Artois (couldn't resist Stella at Stella, lame, I know). The crab cakes were sort of southwestern and yummy. Everything seemed fresh and house made. Cons: My husband didn't love his burger. Summary: I've been here a few times. It's a solid place. I'll be back.

We've had their veggie burger, bacon burger, Italian dip, and tacos all have been very tasty and great portions. Their side salad with the orders are great too. It's a very relaxing atmosphere and great service! We will be back.

Enjoyed a delicious meal here on a busy Saturday night. Great service. Food came quickly because we sat down and ordered before several big tables arrived. I especially enjoyed the jalapeno-bacon wrapped shrimp appetizers. In one serving, you get 4 large shrimps on two skewers which is a perfect portion for 2 people. I also recommend their desserts! The chocolate decadence (flourless chocolate cake) was dense and delicious. I enjoyed the marzipan cake. The decor and ambience of this restaurant is really great--if I was hosting a party or reception, it would be an excellent space for that. Mixed drinks were good--my husband tried the classic mojito and the buttered rum. Both were well-made and reasonably priced ($7 and $6, respectively). As for the entrees, it felt like wedding reception food--my husband had prime rib served with garlic mashed potatoes and horseradish sauce. Steak was fatty and large. I had a filet of salmon stuffed with some sort of cheese/butter/herb sauce. The salmon was a bit undercooked for my taste but edible. I would probably not order this salmon dish again, but my overall experience was very positive and I think this restaurant would be good for a big group dinner.

If you like Desert Edge Pub or Red Butte, you will love Stella as they are owned by the same people, Martine too. The menu is the same as the pub. The turkey tortellini salad is amazing but thats it. Daily pastas are good and they are known for there french onion soup. Straight forward food but nothing thats going to blow your socks off. Full bar and great local beer on tap. Service is great and JC who has worked for the company for years, is very professional and provides top service. Patio is now open and really plain but nice.

Went to Stella for a group dinner- ordered the posole. Spicy, not alot of flavor. A red posole, no depth to the broth. Ended up sending it back. The standard Pub stuff is good as always- french onion soup, pub club...the taste hasn't changed for the last 20 years I've been eating at the Pub. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing. There are other spots I'd rather go to than this place though.

Stella Grill was good, but not great. The bruschetta was a little a little soggy, not so much that I would send it back, but it did distract from the meal. The french onion soup was pretty good. The service though was very good. Our server was very friendly and did a good job. I don't see making it a point to go back, but if someone else says "Let's go to Stella Grill", I will not tell them no.

Ok Stella Grill is fanastic. I am shocked and ashamed that it too me so long to find it. It embodies what I think of as food centric dining. The place is nice but casual, the wait staff seems happy to be working there and the food is phenomenal. Every time I go I have to try something new because they have so many unexpected and delicious sounding options. I was even pleased with the one item I ordered and did not like. It was a Cajun cornbread pudding that did not work for me. Even though I did not like it, It was well thought out and executed and I am sure other people loved it. So I applaud Stella for putting out-of-the-ordinary items on their menu and I will be back to try any other dishes the chef at Stella can concoct!

A pretty cool place but could use a few changes. The music was so quiet we couldn't hear it until most if the people left. The steak was a bit flavorless and we had to add salt.

The menu is definately "off the beaten path." They have lamb tacos, succotash, and salmon salads whch is a nice change from typical Americana Grill fare. The atmosphere was dimly lit. It would be good for a quiet dinner for 2 or a small group. Larger groups might feel squeezed together. Kids might not enjoy the menu. The server was nice and attentive. It would appear I'm not a fan of lamb shank but I've never had lamb so I'm not docking them points for that. The rest of the fixins' were great. Also, they serve a tasty local brewery, Desert Edge. I had a seasonal steam beer. Delicious.

I really enjoyed the atmosphere, great service, and good and unusual flavor combinations. I had the tacos which were a little messy and difficult to eat gracefully in front of my dinner companions.

Pretty good little bistro. We've been here a few times for work lunches etc and I've never been dissapointed. The food is always good quality and they are vere efficient, even during busy lunch times. Get the hanger steak salad if you happen to come on a day they have the special. Yumm!

Have to give this place 5 stars. For a few different reasons : A Unique and homeade menu! This place changes up their menu based on the seasons. That alone is worth 3*s in my opinion. I had bacon wrapped shrimp as an app with very small slices of green pepper in the bacon. A dish that I am going to make at home. My chicken sandwhich was a concoction made up in the kitchen at one point, it had to be. It had a very unique bbq flavor. This was not your average sandwhich. I appreciate things that take a chance and go down a different path. Great wine and beer selection. A very comfortable atmosphere and you have Stella. Great effort.

We took my mom there on a trip to SLC. She just found out her cancer had returned and she had to begin treatments again. When the sweet waitress named Abby found out why she hadn't finished her meal, she brought her a delicious slice of poppy seed cake to cheer her up. Which it did! She happily ate the whole thing. Great food and great staff! Thanks for making a rough day better!

I really wanted to love this place. The atmosphere is absolutely perfect. With the clean decor and natural light, it really has a lot going for it... until you get to the menu. There just ISN'T a whole lot to choose from, and of the limited selection they have, nothing really whet's my appetite at all. I usually leave disappointed, which is disappointing for a place that seems to have such potential.

Menu is well rounded. Decore is simple almost to industry. Im not sure where the personality of the decore is but it works. Lunch was decent no fries with the burgers, which i think is bold. However, they have really taken health and seasonality into consideration. Try the hanger steak sand.

Seeing as this is my tenth review, and it is the tenth review of Stella Grill, lets do a ten reasons why Stella is awesome. This is the place you always say to yourself "I wonder if that is good" as you drive by. Wonder no more. (in no order of importance, just as I am remembering) #10 Went with a group of 16 people on a Saturday night. (No reservations after 6 on Fri and Sat by the way) They handled it, and handled it well. Even split the checks without hesitation. #9 Easy to find, right off 9th east, big parking lot, you can also park on street. #8 They got a giant freaking sink in the mens bathroom. I mean giant. No joke, I thought it was maybe a bath tub and I was contemplating hopping in and cleaning up a little. #7 Seasonal menu plus a regular menu. Who doesnt like different menu troughout the year. #6 Good selection of beer/wine. Desert Edge brewery on tap. #5 Good feel inside. Updated. Clean. Good Style. It looks like in the summer it may have open air feel with some of the large windows that they have. #4 We had an ugly Christmas Sweater theme going on. They loved it, made some comments. We also got some comments from an older lady who really loved ours. Sad? A little. I mean, these were horrid. Next year Im going to the look of Eddy on Christmas Vacation. #3 Service. Great service. Was greeted promptly upon entering, wait time was accurate. Waitress was good. Friendly, offered recommendations #2 Food. Outstanding. In our group in didnt look like anyone had anything that was bad. From a french dip, turkey sandwhich, lamb fajitas, chicken enchiladas, to some sort of game (cant remember) all of it was stellar and the plates were very filling. #1 Overall great experience. Will for sure go back. Probably more than once. I left truly feeling like this deserved a 5 star rating. Go check it out.

First off, this restaurant seriously needs a web site, already. You kidding me? My mom has a web site. The same restaurant group that owns Martine in downtown restaurant (my favorite restaurant in SLC) own Stella. The building is beautiful. The inside is nice and modern but too barren. Service was very friendly and quick on a Saturday night (on the other hand, it was not too busy). We had the crab and corn cakes for a starter - well made, fresh and delicious. I tired the open face flank steak sandwich which was tasty. The lady had the turkey sandwich with a cranberry/celery sauce which was very flavorful and made the sandwich. She got for only $1.50 more a whole bowl of amazing seafood chowder. Their prices are reasonable. Did not try their entrees but they look good and nothing was over $17. Get a web site.

This is my go to place for lunch. I have a standing rotation of items I order. The service is great, the staff is friendly and i consistantly have great food. I come here every once in a while for dinner and when I do, they can even cook a good steak true to temperature. If you are here at dinner definitely try the sangriatini. This restaurant is the sister restaurant to Red Butte Cafe, Martine and The Desert Edge Pub, so the food will be reminiscent of those restaurants and the all have their own "flavor", but of all of those this is my favorite

Have tried about a half dozen menu items and enjoyed each one. Unique prep of common foods.

We had a great meal the first time we went to Stell'a. we went back a second time and were very disappointed in our meal. My Father had the New York steak and it was not worth the $19. I had the beef dip which had too many peppers & the meat was tough. The only positive thing was the excellent service.

First off, the ladies next to us got a drink tipped over on the table. Nobody got wet (boring I know) but the ladies had the audacity to ask for half off on their bill because of the spill. Yeah, what hoes. If you also would have asked for half off we probably wouldn't get along. I mean for real it was just an accident. Anyway, the whole restaurant is decorated in a really light and chill manner. Waitress was chill, all the people working there seemed to enjoy their job. I got the Italian dip sandwich, definitely not bad. Neither was the side of pasta salad and the odd choice of chips. As an appetizer I got bruchetta and goat cheese. Also delich...honestly, just come here it's chill. I went at like a 5 on a Tuesday so there were lots of older people there for the early bird special. I have to go get checked for osteoporosis now. Basically this place has a very relaxed, cafe type of feel, but can also be chill for dessert and it's also cheap. So enjoy you bastards.

It's great to have a brew pub in the neighborhood! Good beer, not your average pub fare and the service is great.

I've been here a few times and I've liked it every time. The pasta salad is good, the french onion soup is good and I've tried the mexi burger. The service is always friendly and casual. I love how bright and sunny the place is as well.

Wow, after 20 years of eating at "The Pub" aka Desert Edge Brewery, I was excited to try Stella. Great decor, good vibe and service, very disappointing food. Crab cakes tasted like fish sticks and French onion soup paled compared to sister restaurant. Back to The Pub for us.

The building, decor and ambience are great but the food lacked. In the past I've loved the Pub and Red Butte sister restaurants but even the Pub's food has worsened over the years. We went to Stella Wednesday evening and The Pub on Thursday evening and I was unimpressed enough to not return for a very long time. The waiter nicely took the flavorless soup off our bill so that was good, but still there are better places to try.

I have one word for this place: Good. That's it though, just good. The service and ambiance were both good. The food was good but not compelling. I can think of other places that serve better sandwiches, burgers and salads. For this reason I probably won't go back. I can't recommend this place, but it won't ruin your day to try it either.
Fantastic food and a great atmosphere. Looks like in the warmer months they have roof seating.

First off, I am a hardcore fan of The Pub, the sister restaurant of Stella Grill, so I went thinking I would like it, and ended up satisfied. The place has a good layout and feels warm and inviting. It reminds me of being in a log cabin or something... but not as rustic... a bit edgy. Went twice and service was great both times. The staff was very good about checking on our table and offering advice about menu items. The highlight of the place is the food. It stands apart from the somewhat typical (but delicious) pub food and has more creativity to it. Appetizers that I liked where the calamari and more so the bruschetta that comes with a delicious and creative mixture of goat cheese, honey, mint, and red peppers... very unique and filling. Onto entrees, the burgers are pretty unique as they offer a variety of flavors and patties... I had the italian variation my first time, which was really quite good... it was part beef and part italian sausage with creamy cheese, arugula, and caramelized onions. I was really impressed with the flavors. The second time I tried the mexican burger that had guacamole, tomatoe, and a roasted pepper. It was good, but didn't set itself apart from most burgers as much as the italian on did. I also tried some of my Dad's duck with ravioli... it was very good, and very decadent (could easily be split between two people). Finally, dessert was good... I was with a group the 2nd time so we got a lot of dessert items and shared... the pecan pie was probably the best, but their chocolate flourless cake (decadence) was equally good as well. I really hope this place continues to do well. It seems as though they will keep their menu flexible and creative. Now all they need is a website ;) facebook page does not count

Go with the fish tacos. For those of you who don't like fish; go with the fish tacos. I get them most every time, and they have never disappointed me. Mother who usually feels ill after the mere thought of fish agreed that they are fantastic.

Overall an excellent experience. We were seated promptly and service was excellent. Drinks were always full. We ordered the green chile corn crab cakes for an appetizer. Very good flavor. For entrees I had the lamb shank and my girl had the pork chop. Both were excellent. My only complaints were the booth/table we were at was small and my entree could have been a bit hotter. Flavor was excellent, portions were good size. For dessert we had the pecan pie and chocolate cake. Both were good. I plan on going back and trying some other items on teh menu.

Had heard great things about this place and it lived up to it. Great atmosphere and building. Super nice hostess and waitress. Waitress was extremely helpful with detailed info on multiple menu items. I had the Open Faced Hanger Sandwich and pasta salad...both excellent. Husband had the Hot Italian burger and garden salad...he loved the burger, but wasn't super impressed with the salad. Would definitely go back.

Very hesitant to review this restaurant, mainly because it is so new and I want to be fair and give it a chance to get through its 'newness' period. I would guess its like 'being new on a new job', gotta give em a break. I will return, and update, but here's what happened. Dropped in for lunch at this restaurant a few weeks ago. This a new restaurant, in the former Bubba's BBQ building on 9th east. The restaurant is owned by the same people who brought us The Pub at Trolley Square (now called Desert Edge Brewery at the Pub), Red Butte Cafe downtown and Martine, downtown. I was expecting great food because I've eaten at all those restaurants (except for Martine)and have had great experiences. There was a nice crowd there, almost all spaces in the parking lot were filled, and the greeting and seating was friendly and quick. Comfortable space, nice ambience, with a 'star' theme. I liked the garage door and natural landscaping outside. The lunch menu is small but interesting. I ordered the Portobello Mushroom sandwich and my friend also ordered a sandwich. We chatted, and waited. Food arrived and was emm, fine. I liked the roasted tomato sitting on top of my Portobello 'burger',and the flavors were very good. The soft bun used was a little too soft and mushed up and fell apart a bit before I was done, so I would suggest a stronger ciabatta or french roll, but flavors inside were great. My friend's sandwich came with the roll sitting in the pasta salad's liquid, so it started being damp and basically unusuable. She ate the inside of the sandwich. The wait staffer asked her about it and was very helpful, comping her for her meal. The pasta salad was good, but different - made with homemade egg noodles instead of the twirly ones. The main salads looked very interesting so I will probably return to try those. But, unless they change those rolls, I'm not ordering sandwiches again. 5 Stars for service - our male wait staffer was wonderful and helpful 3 Stars for our food this time We were both really excited to try this place, but it let us down a little, to be honest. The place just opened, so I am willing to give it another try, but it wasn't the great dining experience I was used to at their other restaurants. Here's a little blurb from the Trib sltrib.com/business/ci_6…

I've been to Stella's a few times and it's actually been ok. But the most recent visit was highly disappointing! It took us about 2 hours to get out. Whatever you do don't order the pork loin or the prawns and pasta dish (or as we like to refer to it, the 5 pieces of prawns, handful of pasta, swimming in a soupy mess dish.) Our waiter was the worst part. He left us sitting there for about 15-20 minutes before taking our order and it took about 45 minutes to get our food. When the pasta arrived, it just looked disgusting and after a few bites my roommate said something when the waiter finally came back. His response after we asked for something different was, "What do you want me to do about it?" He was rude and unresponsive to our needs as customers. Cutting through my pork chop was like sawing through wood. It was tough, and this was especially disappointing since I specifically asked how tender the pork was. He did bring us some side salads and a side of mashed potatoes at our request, but that took about another 15 minutes to get, and he didn't even ask us what kind of dressing we would like with our salads. When the bill came it was outrageous. He did take off the pasta but still charged us 50% for the pork chop because I'd eaten part of it (mostly because I was starving and it took awhile to get the replacement food.) In addition, our 3rd comrade ordered some prime rib which was actually quite good, but the reason we ordered it was due to the positioning of the specialty item on the chalkboard listing the evening's specials. The way the price was listed stated $12.99, when in actuality the price was signifying the price for the item below the prime rib. Besides that our ticket was listed incorrectly, and the prime rib was listed as "item - $25." When my roommate asked to speak to the manager, we found out our waiter was actually the MANAGER! For a manager to be so rude to us is unacceptable. When we confronted him about him being rude, his response was, "I've never had anyone complain about our food before," and, "well, the pork loin cut is a new cut for us," and, "why would I tell you what the price of the prime rib is? You would never have purchased it if you did! And our chef didn't want our prime rib price listed anyway." Despite all this, my roommate still left a decent tip and when my other roommate tried to hand it to him he threw it on the floor and left us standing there. Now I must say this is the FIRST time I've ever had this experience and I would normally never report a restaurant for one bad night, but our experience was SOOOO bad and because our experience was with the manager instead of a regular waiter, I felt the need to say something. I've never written a review for a restaurant before, but beware the light-haired manager/waiter, with tattoos. He also seemed a bit sexist toward us, The time it took for us to get our food was absolutely ridiculous because there really were only maybe 5 other tables in the whole restaurant besides us. I've tried to go back to let another manager know about our awful experience, but the couple times I've returned the only manager on duty was the same terrible one on duty when we were there. I will not go back for awhile and I definitely want to contact another manager or supervisor to let them know about this disaster of a meal.

Cool little restaurant that is a little out of the way. Unless you are from the Holladay/Millcreek area, you probably wouldn't know that Stella's was even there, but after visiting for lunch today, I will be sure to spread the word. The menu is pretty typical for a smaller place like this. One page, with about 20-25 dishes. Burgers, sandwiches, Salads and some Mexican dishes. Entrees range from $8-11 for lunch and the portions were large. I ordered the fish tacos, which were excellent, and they came with a side of corn salsa, beans and rice. My buddy had the chicken fajitas, which also had the same sides. We were seated quickly, and the wait staff seemed pretty wiling to serve. Overall, good dining experience, fun atmosphere, and the food was pretty darn good.

Had the prime rib sandwich. It was very good. The baguette was tender and crisp at the same time. Had the vegetable pasta salad. I believe I like the house better. Coffee was excellent. Boyfriend had the rueben sandwich, which he enjoyed. Will definitely be back!

This is a kind of difficult review to write. We visited Stella over Labor Day, and had a meal that was on the whole good, but not amazing. That could be because it was a holiday, and I'd like to try them again soon to get a better feel for what a standard night is like. Stella is an upscale soup, salad, and sandwich place with some pastas on the menu. If you aren't teetotal, they also looked to have a pretty nice beer and wine selection (well, for Utah). Everything on the menu looked good and it was hard to choose. I had their famous French onion soup. It had a nice crown of toasty cheese that was delicious. I was bummed when the soup itself was a bit too sour and all I could really taste was wine. The onion flavor was just MIA. Overall it was okay, but not fantastic. The prime rib sandwich was the special of the day, and it had a generous heap of meat, but it tasted "left over," the way a steak tastes the next day, after sitting in the fridge overnight. That was another disappointing selection. However, the shrimp and pancetta pasta was reported to be amazing--five stars! And the Asian chicken salad was a winner. We also had a Reuben sandwich and the sauerkraut tasted homemade, which is a nice touch. The restaurant itself is a beautiful space--modern, clean, and fun and the service was attentive and helpful. Also, I love that they have landscaped with native, low-water plants. It's attractive and cool. I really wish I could do half stars because our visit really falls between 3 and 4 stars. I think I'll visit again and update at that time; I have high hopes for this place but they just didn't quite live up this time.

We've had some great meals at Stella that felt creative and gourmet and fancy, and some so-so meals. This last visit in mid-June was a good experience but we weren't blown away by our food and were seated near the kitchen so it didn't feel as glamorous. I ordered the Open Face Hanger Steak Sandwich (crimini mushrooms, blue cheese, basil mayo, demi glace on baguette) with a side salad, and it arrived looking a bit underwhelming - the side salad was maybe 1/4 cup of lettuce and some squishy tomatoes and then the rest of the plate above the sandwich was filled with basic potato chips (not listed on the menu). I would've preferred a larger salad, or at least the option to specify. The sandwich was also very much on the small side - the "open-face" was one piece of, yes, thinly-sliced baguette Husband got the Grilled Asian Chicken salad (Mixed greens, snow peas, baby corn, peanuts, cilantro, cukes, peanut vinaigrette) which was pretty but not super impressive. In the past he's ordered the salmon salad (greens, golden beets, white bean salad, feta, pepitas, capers, cumin citronetts) and it was amazing and fresh and delicious, so would be interested to see if it's still as good. I'd love to come back to Stella if it would be more on par with our previous visits. Not sure what's changed about it but we would love to be wowed by it again.

The Website at StellaGrill.com indicates they are open on Sunday. They're not. The Website says they're phone number is 801/288-0051. It's not. If you need to get ahold of this restaurant their number is 801/288-0061. And they're closed on Sunday. I don't know if I will ever try this restaurant. Isn't it interesting how an outdated website can influence your decision? It influenced mine to go somewhere else.

Looking for a restaurant that features fresh and mind blowing food? Stop at Stella's! We started with the goat cheese platter. The infused cheese was a light appetizer that's filled with spiced flavor along with honey. The accompanying toastinis were a good choice as it added depth and crunch. Decided to get the 2 tacos and when they arrived I was amazed that the portion filled the already large plate. The tacos were topped with large dollops of Guac and fresh vegetables. The accompanying homemade chips were crispy and thick! The smoky and bright corn succotash was the perfect topping for my tacos. Reminded me of the texmex one might find closer to the border!

This place is adorable! I went for lunch and it was so much food and the price was pretty good for the quantity. The service was quick and friendly. I always like it when what you order is not just like the same old thing, there was a good twist in flavors in their dishes.

Great food with a fun environment. I only give it 4 stars because it's sister restaurant Red Butte Cafe is the bees knees. Get the Italian dip sandwich and the house pasta salad. Good stuff.

Hot Italian burger is amazing! Ground beef and Italian sausage mixed in a perfectly grilled patty topped with gorgonzola cheese, arugula, tomato, on your choice of a whole wheat or sourdough bun, lightly slathered with am amazing basil mayo. I had one 3 times a week in my early 20's paired with the desert edge heffe you cant go wrong!

Their French onion soup is always yummy. My husband devoured the open-faced hangar steak sandwich on sourdough baguette and I loved the grilled smoked turkey/Swiss cheese/pesto aoli sandwich on whole wheat bread. Both sandwiches came with classic potato chips. The Greek pasta salad was a nice side. But the best thing here is the bourbon pecan pie served warm with a vanilla cream sauce. Oh, my!! They don't have gelato any more, but that's ok. The server refilled our drinks several times without being asked and was prompt with the bill. The sun was in the faces of diners facing west for quite awhile and it was impossible to read the specials menu on the west wall. Their booths are comfortable, and patio dining in the summer is nice.

I really enjoyed my visit to Stella Grill. I was in Salt Lake for the weekend and it was a great place for my friends and I to catch up. The atmosphere was laid back and the staff was incredibly friendly! They had a variety of foods but their salads were fantastic. They had a nice selection of beer on tap as well. I would definitely recommend this place for an great meal.

We came here for lunch and they weren't too busy. I got the Italian dip with the garden salad. The sandwich was perfectly toasted and I savored every bite. Wish I would have gone with the pasta salad instead of the garden salad which was quite boring. Our lunch party enjoyed our meal and we were out in a reasonable amount of time. I can't wait to come back to try their other dishes.
Charming little place - great for lunch! The food is great, the service is great. The atmosphere is great. Room for improvement: only open until nine and not open on Sunday. :/ It's definitely several steps up from the ever so prevalent chain restaurants of utah so check them out.

Recent visit here with a largish group matched previous visits as a couple. Menu offers interesting choices, food is decently prepared, ambiance acceptable, but total effect is unremarkable. Our group of seven didn't generate one spontaneous " This is great!" as we ate. Place was busy at lateish lunch time and we expected a wait for a table, but not waits for service once seated. We weren't in a hurry, but we were hungry.

(3)Adam S.
Went in for a lunch. The Santa Fe chicken sandwich was bland and the chicken was very dry. The service was terrible. No one asked how the food was or refilled our drinks. With so many options in town, there is no reason to eat here.
(2)Stephanie J.
(4)D L.
There is an atmosphere you can feel at the exterior of the building quickly destroyed by the head chef upon entry to the restaurant. His bad attitude reflects across all of the staff, the daily specials should be called monthly, and look out for mice. We gave this place a second try and were only let down.
(1)Andrew F.
Great place for lunch like everyone has mentioned. The food is delicious and the prices are good too. My favorite is the hanger steak sandwich. Great service too everyone was super nice and friendly. good bar selector as well. Will be back to try more delicious food
(4)Allison M.
(4)Sam S.
(3)Dallin M.
New brunch menu and open on Sundays! Millcreek needs this!!!!! The beer is great, so are the servers.
(5)Angie H.
Hurry up! :)
(5)Joseph T.
(4)Angela S.
Such a great breakfast! Excellent selection of menu items, great service, good music, and a wonderful chef. Thank you Stella for another great meal and for finally serving breakfast. Can't wait to come back to try out all the different varieties of Eggs Benedict. Keep up the great work.
(5)Taryn N.
Had the hanger steak salad...fabulous! Sat outside and it was beautiful. Great service as usual. Delightful time with a friend.
(5)Gwen A.
Great little American style place. The tacos and steak are fabulous. In the summer time they open up the windows (must've been an old garage) but it totally adds to the ambience.
(4)Caroline K.

(3)Jeanne A.
(5)Mara F.

(3)Ad S.

The appetizers were very good, we had the Goat Cheese-mint Pesto Timbale & Bacon wrapped shrimp. The entrees were extremely disappointing. The plank roasted salmon had no flavor and was served w/a caper salsa that didn't compliment it at all. The barley side was in a watery cream sauce and the veggie on the side were the most overcooked I've seen in years, just mushy and all the same drab green. Friends ordered the shrimp and bacon pasta, that too was watery. Nothing seemed sautéed or broiled, it was like everything was steamed, it had no flavor and wasn't cooked correctly. Chocolate gelato was good.

(4)Colin C.
Cheers!
(4)Charles S.

Great casual service..no high pressure. Lots of eclectic choices ! Perfect cute tables not cramped together)
(5)Jonathan B.
(3)Amanda F.
(4)Gerardo C.
We've had their veggie burger, bacon burger, Italian dip, and tacos all have been very tasty and great portions. Their side salad with the orders are great too. It's a very relaxing atmosphere and great service! We will be back.
(4)Grace S.
(4)Vida A.
(3)Mary N.
(2)Bruce H.
(3)Spencer S.
(5)Becky J.
A pretty cool place but could use a few changes. The music was so quiet we couldn't hear it until most if the people left. The steak was a bit flavorless and we had to add salt.
(3)Andy B.
Delicious.
(5)Nicole R.
I really enjoyed the atmosphere, great service, and good and unusual flavor combinations. I had the tacos which were a little messy and difficult to eat gracefully in front of my dinner companions.
(3)Julie R.
Pretty good little bistro. We've been here a few times for work lunches etc and I've never been dissapointed. The food is always good quality and they are vere efficient, even during busy lunch times. Get the hanger steak salad if you happen to come on a day they have the special. Yumm!
(4)Justin F.
(5)Kelly Y.
(5)Jen B.
(2)Christopher L.
Menu is well rounded. Decore is simple almost to industry. Im not sure where the personality of the decore is but it works. Lunch was decent no fries with the burgers, which i think is bold. However, they have really taken health and seasonality into consideration. Try the hanger steak sand.
(3)David B.
Excellent place with a variety of menu items. I have been here several times. The food is great and the wait staff great.
(4)Adam B.
4.5 Stars Had the Asian salad which was delicious. Everything was of high quality and very fresh.
(4)Erika S.
Consistently good food with attentive, quick service. Wine list leaves a little to be desired. Hanger steak salad is excellent, also lots of good vegetarian options.
(4)Lorrie K.
It's "The pub south". Its the same type and quality of food as Desert Edge in Trolley Square. The French onion soup is a favorite, and I always like the fish. Sunday brunch is great.
(4)Scott S.
(5)Ramin R.
(4)Kelly J.
(4)Steve S.
Have tried about a half dozen menu items and enjoyed each one. Unique prep of common foods.
(5)Calvin S.
It's as good as everyone says and the menu is unique. Give it a try.
(4)Peggy C.
We had a great meal the first time we went to Stell'a. we went back a second time and were very disappointed in our meal. My Father had the New York steak and it was not worth the $19. I had the beef dip which had too many peppers & the meat was tough. The only positive thing was the excellent service.
(1)Frank M.
(4)LeGrand R.
It's great to have a brew pub in the neighborhood! Good beer, not your average pub fare and the service is great.
(4)Adiel N.
I've been here a few times and I've liked it every time. The pasta salad is good, the french onion soup is good and I've tried the mexi burger. The service is always friendly and casual. I love how bright and sunny the place is as well.
(4)Dave F.
(2)Elisabeth B.
(2)Ken C.
I have one word for this place: Good. That's it though, just good. The service and ambiance were both good. The food was good but not compelling. I can think of other places that serve better sandwiches, burgers and salads. For this reason I probably won't go back. I can't recommend this place, but it won't ruin your day to try it either.
(3)Bill M.
I have been frequenting this place since it opened. Every experience I've had with the food and services been absolutely positive. I go there about once a month on Wednesday evenings after my work is finished for the day. I've been a fan of the waiter JC for about 12 years when I first encountered him Red Butte Café. I don't think I've ever been to the restaurant when he wasn't there. It is a wonderful neighborhood café. Every time I go in there I recognize some patrons that I've seen before. The place has a very loyal following. I've taken out of town friends there and they immediately fell in love with the place. Tonight, after a difficult day at work, as I was walking by the front windows I looked in and saw the bartender, Pate look at me and give me a big welcoming smile. It was one of the bright spots of my day. All the other employees there have always been efficient and friendly and competent. I don't eat meat but can recommend the fish tacos, veggie tacos or any of the salads. I eat fish tacos wherever I go and these are amongst the best. I highly recommend this place or any of the Pub Group restaurants. They really know how to create good food and a welcoming atmosphere.
(5)Todd J.
Fantastic food and a great atmosphere. Looks like in the warmer months they have roof seating.
(3)Brian R.

(5)Nick V.
(4)Sandra P.
(4)Tristan A.

Great food. Nice service. Don't go if you're in a hurry. Took a long time to order and a very long time to get the food. It is a nice environment. Casual and welcoming.

After numerous visits, I've come to appreciate Stella Grill for what it is; a casual and simplistic place to enjoy a decent meal. While I've never had an exceptional dish at Stella, I've had plenty of enjoyable ones that continue to satisfy me, particularly because they not only look, but taste fresh. To accompany the simplistic food, the restaurant's atmosphere is laid back and unpretentious. Not a lot of decor, and the color scheme is muted and earthy. This works nicely with the overall "neighborhood grill" image that Stella permeates. Stella is one of those places you can drop in, and usually get seated in a reasonable amount of time. I personally prefer the indoor seating, but they have a patio available which is usually at full capacity during the warmer months. I've sampled many a dish from Stella as both a meat eater and a vegetarian and have been satisfied with nearly everything I've eaten. They have a relatively short menu, with a decent variety ranging from char boiled sandwiches to salads, soups, dinner entrée's and mexican dishes. My personal favorites are the Portobello Sandwich, Salmon Salad and the Mexi Burger. The French Onion soup is also a nice little additive if you're feeling especially hungry. Stella is a great place to relax and have a good meal. Dining at Stella is great, if you keep your expectations reasonable, and understand that while it's not an exceptional foodie experience, it is a pretty decent one.

Great food! Seafood Chowder with a Steak Sandwich hits the spot every time. Staff is very friendly and polite.
