It's find food, but it's way overpriced. Really that's my only complaint. I think I might enjoy the food more if I knew I wasn't paying too much for it. I do like the triple berry pie though.

You'd think a place like this that gets a lot of traffic from families would have booster seats. Only had high chairs.

Your grandparents will love it. Our office did lunch from Nauvoo Cafe and I was instantly transported back in time to a place when Betty Crocker reigned supreme, jello molds were all the rage, and mayonnaise was used on everything. Wait, that's Salt Lake... I got the pot pie, as it was featured in the menu, and I have to say, I bet this is a big hit among the 65 - 85 crowd. I'm not sure what they are going for here? Safe? Non-Offensive? LDS Soul Food? It was odd. My coworker got some spiffy Ham sandwich we're pretty sure contained thick sliced canned ham, or possibly spam. I wouldn't recommend it unless you are interested in sending your intestines into the Outter Darkness of the Gastro-Universe. It's a slippery slope for sure...

I got here one minute before breakfast ended and secured the LAST piece of breakfast quiche (I love quiche). Everyone was helpful and friendly; my quiche and drink were under $5. It wasn't crowded because it was that weird in between breakfast and lunch tie. It was delicious. I will be back next time!

Great place! I'm a frequent when it comes to their breakfast! Their French toast is a thing of beauty. Not cooked like the French toast you are used to. Good food made as you order so there is a bit of a wait but it is well worth it. If you are ever in the mood for French toast, try theirs, and you'll never want for another French toast again!

Nauvoo Cafe is nothing more than your average run-of-the-mill cafe. The menu is small and coincidentally offers small portions. If you're hungry, DO NOT GET THE HALF SIZE. A cup soup, a half sized sandwich, and a soft drink cost me $9 so it's not that great for budget conscience individuals. The location and friendly service bumps this review to 3 stars otherwise, I would've stuck with 2 stars.

Locationlocationlocation Immediately east of Temple Square proper in what was once Salt Lake's grand hotel. Still a wonderful building and this room has large windows overlooking Temple Square. Fittings always seem to me a bit ad hoc, as though a buffet line had been set up in a hotel ballroom. Not a big selection and the hot sandwiches and prepackaged salads have never tempted me, but a few times a year my yearning for pot pie takes me here, and I am reminded that the crust is excellent but the sauce salty. This place might be useful for convention goers wanting breakfast near the Salt Palace since the crowds probably wouldn't realize it was there. Or the crowds may be too caffeine addicted to consider it.

This place is one of those that when you are touring Temple Square, people tell you to try, but it's mostly just for the hype. Don't get me wrong, the food here is pretty good, but the Lion House is way better if your wanting a pioneer themed staple for the area. True from previous posts, the french toast is really good, but for half the price, you can go to Keander's and get just as good all you can eat french toast. Lunch is adequate. Smaller portions for the price. There are some really great hole in the wall sandwiches places in downtown SLC, and Nauvoo Cafe just does not hit the spot for me in comparison to others.

It's alright. I came here with a group on someone else's tab. Wouldn't be my first downtown choice, but if someone else is paying for it, who am I to complain?

The food was ok but the service was very bad. I was trying to order a soup, but the first server asked me to talk to the other server and the other server just held me there. The queuing system was also confusing

The food here was okay. I found a hair in my sandwich on the very last bite. I'm not sure if I would've rather found it first thing or if I'm glad I found it at the end. It put me off to the point that I would probably never eat here again. I'll cross the street to the food court at the mall where you would expect that sort of thing that happen.

Something must have been wrong during my visit based on other reviews, but I was thoroughly unimpressed with the place. Prices are insanely high, sandwiches are ridiculously small, and the staff seems detached and hating their jobs. The seating was really awkward and crammed, especially during the lunch rush. I felt uncomfortably squished between table and window and you can forget about any room for high chairs or ankle biters. Not my cup of tea. Oh wait, they don't serve tea here.

Family roadtrip! Stopped by Salt Lake City to see Temple Square and their grand organ and dome! SLC was beautiful. I have never been to a city where almost everyone had a smile on their faces. Look around you, there is barely anyone who passes by with a smile on their faces.. My dad says Mormons in Utah are the idealistic Americans he had imagined before he came to the states. He says they are the most kind and always has a positive vibe that surrounds them.. but I digress... so while we are touring temple square... We got hungry. So we yelped and found Nauvoo. We ordered. We ate. We were satiated. The sandwiches actually look pretty small but surprisingly get the consumer full. The pot pie was rich and heavy, in a good way. If you're getting the sandwich, I definitely suggest getting the TOMATO SOUP to dip your sandwich in.. It makes all the difference! Seat outside in the patio area to eat while enjoying the beautiful scenery and weather of SLC :)

Great little cafe right inside the memorial building in Temple square. Don't get anything but the homemade turkey pot pie. It is THAT good. Huge cubes of tender turkey in a creamy sauce. The crust has the perfect buttery flakiness. I would take home a dozen if I could.

Great food, and a wonderful environment. My only compliant is the food could be a few bucks cheaper than it's priced. Other than that the sand which was good, and rich with flavor. The triple berry pie was also enjoyable. I could definitely come back for lunch, but not for a evening out.

Great sandwich place. Limited selection but they're all good. Reasonably priced, quick and friendly service.

The reviews I have read on this place are about lunch and dinner. So I thought I would review it on the breakfast. I do not come to the Nauvoo Cafe often, but when I do, I am not disappointed. I went back just yesterday for their delicious breakfast. I got loaded potatoes, scrambled eggs and their biscuits & gravy. What a treat! Very fresh, very tasty and very hardy!

This restaurant is very convenient if you are in the Temple Square area. It is in the bottom of the Joseph Smith Memorial Building. My husband and I both had the turkey pot pie, and it was really good. The crust was very light, much lighter than other pot pies I have had. We chose to eat on the patio, so they packaged them up nicely for us. The patio area was beautiful. The day we were there it was a tad windy, but still very lovely. We would return.

Love this place! We eat here every time we are in downtown SLC. The sandwiches are great. The pot pie is incredible. I disagree with the sandwich prices - they seem about average for a place like this and they are not that small. They are not huge - but they are not small.

We weren't quite sure what to expect, but . . Nauvoo Care was recommended for their turkey pot pies. Well . .that was an excellent recommendation! Wow - SOOO good. This is a deli-type cafe - you go thru the line and tell them what you'd like. They make sandwiches to order, have turkey pot pie (to die for!), salads, etc. The line was long and the servers VERY polite and helpful. I'd come again for either a sandwich or a turkey pot pie. There is seating in the casual cafe and you can also take your food outside to a courtyard area; the nite we were there, there was a performance close by, so lots of extra people. Another room close by was opened up; this was actually a very elegant room. We wish we would have had the opportunity to visit again - for a different meal.

Don't miss the Coca-Cola Pork sandwich with spicy jack cheese on a fresh-baked whole wheat bun. I'm always tempted to order two just for me (they aren't especially large) but I usually save room for hearty soup and/or a home-style dessert. Delish!

Suprisingly good carver sandwiches. The turkey bacon was great. Excellent bread. Very, very fast service. Need to try one of the pot pies one day, they look pretty good.

I had a really good sandwich here today. The turkey cranberry was very tasty and service was more than friendly. I also had the tomato soup which I believe they have everyday and it was not the most amazing soup I have ever had but it was good. It seems to be pretty popular as there was a decent sized line around lunch time but we had no problem getting a table. Great downtown location as well

This place was fantastic! It's a "made to order" omelet/sandwich/ect. bar. The chef was a cheerful lady who made great recommendations, like the house made syrup. I loved my meat lovers omelet and cinnamon roll/doughnut. My friend loved her French toast with fresh berries and house made syrup. I only wish our delicious food wasn't served on styrofoam plates, that part was out of place. I'll be back next time I'm in town.

Great lunch spot! Stopped in for a quick bite. I love the fact that you can customize your sandwich, choosing from freshly prepared meats (no processed stuff here), veggies and condiments. The wheat bread was delicious. I don't like white bread but it looked good too. If I had one wish for Nauvoo, it would be to have more side options for the sandwiches. All I saw were chips and yummy-looking dessert items. I think it would be great to offer a fresh fruit, green, or pasta salad. Also, I wasn't crazy over the fact that the entree salads are pre-packaged and not made fresh while you wait. Maybe it's to better serve the lunch crowd but I found it unappealing. And yes, I realize that's two wishes and not one. To end on a high note, today when I stopped in the featured soups were tomato asiago bisque and a cold banana bisque. Definitely not your run-of-the-mill variety! I didn't sample either one but I sure appreciate the creativity.

We went to the Nauvoo Cafe for a bite to eat after touring the Temple Square area the other night. It's in the Joseph Smith Memorial Building, which has a beautifully decorated lobby and a chandelier like nothing I have ever seen before. When we first walked in, the manager came up to us and asked if we had any questions. She offered suggestions and was very friendly. We each decided to go with sandwiches--my friends got turkey with cranberry orange relish, and I ordered the Coca Cola pork with BBQ mayo. The meat was freshly sliced and very, very good. My friends LOVED the relish on their sandwiches, and I really enjoyed the bread. The cafe had other options in addition to the sandwiches--soups, salads, and pot pies. Although we didn't try them, they looked delicious as well. If you're in downtown Salt Lake City, the Nauvoo Cafe is a great place to grab a sandwich. I would definitely go back.

Go here for sandwiches. Seriously. Don't bother with other stuff. The pot pie was okay but WAY too salty. Salads and Pasta stuffs were kinda awful. But the sandwiches are dripping in the proverbial awesome-sauce. They alone justify four stars. You start at one end, tell them what kind of meat and bread you want. They carve as appropriate, then send the stack of goodies to the next person, where you tell them which condiments and veggies you want. Rince and repeat till you check out. The condiment options were better than I expected. The roast beef was very good. And the end result was really one of the better sandwiches I've had in a long time and for a very reasonable price (not a "certified organic" sort of place, so the prices are more understandable). They close too early to consider it a good dinner option...unless you're an early to bed sort. And it can get busy during lunch but the line moves fast. In times like that, you are more likely to not find an open table, so be prepared to get your sandwich to go then eat while you enjoy the tulips or something. One warning: This is official property of the church so they do NOT have COFFEE. The other drink offerings seemed pretty lame as well...so I always revert to bottled water here.

Good, quick options for a sandwich and soup shop. Very friendly staff and great location, next to temple square and the historic Joseph Smith Memorial Building.

After a quick tour of the Mormon Temple, my dad and I stopped at the Nauvoo Cafe on a warm rainy day. I wasn't expecting much from my turkey sandwich but what I got, was a near religious experience. Maybe it was the 2000 miles or so it had taken for me to get there from Pittsburgh, PA while traveling cross country. Or maybe it was the freshly carved roasted turkey, freshly baked bread, crisp lettuce and the sweet yet spicy sauce that turned that mundane lunch into one of the highlights of my cross country trek. All I know for sure is that was one sandwich that I will never forget.

I haven't had the salads here, but if they're as good as their soups & sandwiches you can't miss. Sandwiches are made as you order them, rather than sitting out on the shelves, so you can get what you want on it. They also have a half-sandwich option, which goes great with a small soup. This restaurant is on the ground floor of the Joseph Smith Memorial Building and can get crowded at times, but in good weather you can take your food outside and eat at one of the tables on the Main Street Plaza. All the food is freshly made and good. They do have breakfast but I haven't yet tried it. Given the quality of their lunches, I'm sure the breakfasts are a good value as well.

Ate there for lunch on a Tuesday. Quiet atmosphere, delicious food. I had the turkey pot pie from The Lion House. It was amazing. Hubs had a pulled pork sandwich that was excellent. Grilled cheese for the kids are large with 2 slices of cheese. Would definitely go there again.

This is a wonderful little cafe located near/ on temple square. The carrott cake is wonderful and the food all is very fresh. The prices are competitive and the service is great! I would highly recommend this wonderful dining location for a quick bite to eat while visiting the area!

About the cheapest omelet you find downtown made to order right in front of you. Creme brule french toast and smoky bacon speak for themselves. Lunch is fab with hand carved signature sandwiches and the turkey pot pie is heavenly even better than Mary Calendars. Convenient street level access.

Based on the reviews I was expecting some good fresh food, but the very first thing we ordered for our child was the pasta Alfredo. They handed us a container of cold pasta with a scoop of Alfredo sauce on it... then pointed us to the MICROWAVE for instructions on how to heat it. Really irked me. If I wanted some microwaved food I would have stayed home. My wife and daughter got the chicken pot pie and bbq pork sandwich respectively and both were good, but the pasta thing was strange enough to keep me from returning.

Best sandwiches in Utah. The Turkey is always juicy and tender. They make the sandwiches very quickly. Lots of nice sauces (besides Mayo) to chose from. The Turkey pot pie is always flakey and creamy (If there are any left). Soup is good but they need more variety. Desserts are good-ol Mormon recipes. The people who work there are always very helpful and cheerful. Enjoy the Mormon artwork on the walls while you are there.

A great little place to get a sandwich. Was downtown for a day and the managers I was training with took me here. Walking in we had live piano music playing in the grand foyer. I just had a ham sandwich, but the ham was carved in thick slices as my sandwich was made. It was delicious and I was so glad I opted for a whole sandwich instead of half. One of the guys with me had a turkey and cranberry which looked amazing. I agree with the previous reviewer that the line cooks were a bit of a downer.

I've been to the Nauvoo Cafe before, and I just went back on my last visit here in SLC. The sandwiches are made fresh in front of you, straight from the oven. The bread is so fresh! Had the turkey, and so yummy! The meats are freshly carved in front of you. Unfortunately, I wanted the beef, and there was a small bit left so I would have had to wait some time before the meat came from the kitchen. I'm a big fan of desserts, but they failed with my sweet tooth. I had the slice of carrot cake. It was moist, but wasn't rich enough for me. A little on the mild side. The cream cheese frosting didn't have too much flavor (sugar) to it. I definitely will come back for the sandwiches. Oh so good! Parking is either a pay lot or street parking with parking meters. So you still have to pay for parking. Unless you're fortunate enough to park underground (also another pay lot), and you go to the temple. There you can get the parking token, and after doing temple work, you can go grab a bite to eat afterwards. The cafe is conveniently located on the first floor of the Joseph Smith Memorial Building. It's very easy to find. It's on the temple side of the building.

I have been to this cafeteria style eatery at least a dozen times but returned today because I hadn't been there since some time last summer. In the past I have always purchased the coca-cola glazed pork loin sandwich on focaccia bread (either white or wheat ) but his time I got the roasted turkey sandwich which was also very tasty. The turkey was a real roasted turkey breast that was juicy and had a very tasty herb flavor of rosemary, this is NOT deli turkey, it's thanksgiving day turkey on a sandwich. The sandwich meats are cut to order on a butcher block and then sent through a toaster oven with a choice of cheese (provalone, swiss, pepper jack, cheddar) veggie choices include whole leaf lettuce, tomatoes, red onions, pickles, and cucumbers. There is also a choice of sauces including a cranberry orange relish and a chipotle mayo and some others that I can't think of now. Other lunch choices include soups and some tasty looking chicken pot pies. Dessert includes all the same choices as the nearby Lion House (but not the famous rolls). For $7 and some change a sandwich of this quality is hard to beat. I took a star off because the sandwich makers could be a little more friendly and Parking especially with the current war zone mall reconstruction, getting a to go order was quite a task. I would say even with the very touristy feel this is one consistent downtown eatery but be prepared for a possible wait with all the Temple Square tourists and church pencil pushers from the church office building.
